okay so here I am on someone's blog, they have this link to "decolonizepalestine.com", to which I think "oh my, what WILL they cover?"

I go on it. it has the sections "palestine 101" and "myths database". okay, this could be fine, I say to myself. I check out "palestine 101". it starts with "introduction to palestine 1: palestine throughout history" and the date range 9000 BC to 1918 AD. that's a lot of history, I think; that covers thousands of years into prehistory until the British Mandate. but I guess they'll be skimming over a lot of it?

I click through. they mention an egyptian stele that says "peleset"- this does exist and it seemingly refers to a people group, so it's likely the same tablet (or a similar one) that bears our first mention of israel in writing. they bring up the Persians, the Romans, the Assyrians, and the Nabataeans. I'd never heard of the last ones so I looked them up- they're an ancient arab people. okay then. hellenic invaders would have made sense to bring up, given you did before (peleset may or may not refer to the philestines, given it has the same p-l-s-t root as pilishtim (hope I'm remembering that word right)). but sure, those people were all in charge once.

at the end of the section, before getting into whatever they'll say next, it says this: "This article does not aim to delve into the minutiae of this Palestinian history, indeed entire books could be -and have been- written on the subject. Rather the goal of this introduction is to describe the political context that lead up to the modern Palestinian question." okay then, reasonable. that's a LOT of history. I scroll down again, expecting to find maybe Israel and Judah, maybe the roman province of Syria Palestina and how the name came about. nope. it says "Palestine Under the Ottoman Empire".

WHAT. THE HELL.

WHAT ABOUT THE JEWS?! never even fucking mind the romans and the assyrians and all. the jews? who had a couple kingdoms there for a while? the temple and everything? ugh.

I keep reading anyway. they mention Jerusalem (making no mention of its founders), they mention the ottomans dividing the land into three bits, and they mention the Millet system (the ottomans apparently dividing religious communities to govern themselves). they say this: "The Ottoman Millet system and its various manifestations provided a certain degree of autonomy to minority religious and ethnic communities. While this system suffered from serious flaws, and its breadth and tolerance waxed and waned with different governors and social and economic circumstances, it was still superior to the outright persecution and pogroms which various religious groups on the European continent had to endure." okay, sure- hey what was that word? pogrom? hang on, didn't the jews make that word to mean "riots against specifically us"?

I did not read any more and I don't want to. I just. how do you make a site that purports to tell the history of this stretch of land, then DON'T COVER MULTIPLE THOUSAND YEARS OF IT? don't even mention how the name became applied to the region? don't mention how every time it was conquered, there were more and more killings of jews?

I know how they do it. I just don't understand why. I am not even jewish, and I'm tired of this.

The first thing Bakugo wants after a life or death fight with a villain is to fuck you.

Bakugo denies all medical attention, ignores his colleagues pleas to calm down as he barrels off the battlefield in a blind fury. He storms through the front door, still covered in freshly spilled blood and practically growling like a wounded animal while his eyes search for you in your shared home.

You rush downstairs at the sound, your eyes widening in shock when you approach him. “Katsuki? What the h—”

“Shut the fuck up.”

His lips are on yours in an instant, shoving you up against the wall in a desperate attempt to get closer to you. Dirtied gloves paw at your clothes, the salty metallic taste of blood and sweat coating your tongue from his split lip as he shoves his tongue in your mouth. It’s as if Bakugo’s body is moving on its own, his mind trapped in a haze of unknown need.

“Need you,” he groans while sucking your bottom lip into his mouth, one of his hands threading into your hair and holding the back of your head. “Shut up and fuck me.”

“Kats—”

You try to pull back, to ask him what’s going on, but he keeps cutting you off with harsher kisses and bites to your neck. Bakugo pants against your pulse point, licking the skin as his voice becomes uncharacteristically soft. “Please…”

That’s when you notice the tremble in his touch, how the hand on your waist is squeezing tight enough to leave a bruise. It clicks — this isn’t just about sex and he won’t say it, can’t say it. He needs you. Needs you to distract him, hold him and get the adrenaline out of his body, to not let the fear of almost losing you drown him.

One of your hands tangles in his hair as you kiss down his neck, your teeth sinking into the spot that makes his knees buckle. Bakugo audibly moans, a low and guttural sound that only you know how to pull out of him. You lead him to the couch in the living room, ripping off his hero suit piece by piece to give him exactly what he wants.

“Thank you” are the only two words that roll off his tongue repeatedly like a prayer, spliced between voracious moans as you ride him harder than ever before. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

My maternal grandmother could crochet.

Nothing complicated. Basic granny squares and double crochet, but she was the one in the family who made blankets for her kids and grandchildren. Dementia hit in her nineties but she still remembered how to make granny squares and made dozens. I asked her for one last blanket but by that point the dementia had taken how to join the squares. They were stacked in piles around the dining room table and when she went into care, into a plastic box for storage.

When she died, I asked for them. By that point I could crochet but didn't know how to join, and figured, someday, I'd learn.

It's at least a decade later. I'm the one who makes blankets for my nephews, for my cousin's children, for pregnant coworkers. Last year I made seven blankets, three for Project Linus, the rest for family and a friend. I can follow crochet charts, filet crochet, do clusters, fans, basic lace, amigurumi.

The world, as is its wont, is on fire. Tonight, I have opened the plastic container for the first time in a decade. I'm sorting them into piles by color. I know now how to look at them and see where her memory slipped or areas I'll need to repair. There's no printed pattern but if I need more I have the skills to copy the pattern.

Each square is 5 inches. Blanket size for Project Linus is 40x60. I'll see how many people I can give her last crochet legacy to.
