Pairing: Eddie x best friend!reader

Warnings: non-mutual pining, slight angst, cliff hanger, fem!reader, mention if periods

Summary: y/n is Eddie's best friend since childhood, when she realizes she might like him, she puts it off because "in a cheerleader, he doesn't date cheerleaders," but then she notices him glancing at her friend, Chrissy.

Eddie and you have been best friends since forever. You've taken baths together when you were babies, you sat with him on the swings every recess. He was the first to know about your first period, and first to comfort you. Your family was basically his by now, and though you were basically raised inseperable, you never viewed him as your brother or anything. He was just Eddie.

That was.. until recently.

You got on the cheerleading team your freshman year, and he was estatic for you.

"now, I don't usually like cheerleaders but I gotta say youre messing up my streak," he joked, ruffling your hair.

"yeah yeah, you just like that you'll get to see me in a cheer uniform," you joked, shooting him a look.

He blushes, but quips back as quick as he usually did, "I mean you'd look beautiful in a potato sack, but jumping around in a short skirt? Oh no. Never. Definitely not." He was being sarcastic, but you sensed some defensiveness in his tone.

That was the first time you questioned it. Your relationship. Him calling you 'beautiful' rang in your ears the entire time he walked you home.

"hey sweetheart, y/n? Earth to y/n central, are you there?" He smiled, leaning on your doorframe.

You shook your head, hoping somehow, your brain would act as an Etch-a-Sketch and erase the silly things you were thinking about.

"I asked if you wanted a ride to school, since I just got these babies," he spun his van keys on his finger.

"yeah.. yeah. Totally Ed," you smiled, looking up at him. "See you tomorrow mornin'?"

"see ya ' pretty girl."

Those names he had always called you suddenly made your face flush bright red. They suddenly felt different to you.

Now it was your senior year, being right before the grade cut off you had already turned 18, and Eddie was repeating a grade. He swore 84' would be his year.

He regularly picked you up to and from school in his van, and you grew accustomed to his music. You loved when he played black Sabbath specifically. He sometimes let you play your music aswell, and though he huffed and pretended to hate it, you'd glance over and see him bobbing his head and tapping his foot. You never mentioned it.

You sat at his table, sitting alongside his dnd group, but you were always sat the closest to Eddie. It was your spot. Seriously, he'd chew out anyone who tried to sit there. You admired how he took in younger outcasts, and you were always the first to greet them with a smile. You were the welcome committee, and you really did make them feel like they belonged.

However, you were still a cheerleader. You found out pretty quickly that you didn't like them though, and that you weren't like them. They kept you on the team because well, it's not like they can kick you off because they don't like you, and also partially to your friend Chrissy.

Chrissy was somebody you met in middle school. Your weren't as close as you and Eddie, but she was your best girl-friend. When she told you she had made it on the cheerleading team, you two jumped for joy together as she hugged you as hard as she could. Chrissy never refused the others advances like you did, but you didn't blame her. She's so suspectable to peer pressure, but never ever would she personally be mean.

You had practice every Wednesday, and Eddie waited in the parking lot each time to pick you up. You're pretty sure he made some deals while he waited aswell, so it wasn't a total loss for him like you insisted. A few moments before practice ended, he'd come to the field and sit on the bleachers.

You didn't mind, though to anyone else it may have been embarrassing. He didn't mind being called a freak every week if he got to watch you practice for a bit, or at least, you thought he was looking at you. Eventually, his gaze shifted.

Eventually, you and Chrissy rode in his van together.

He didn't tap his foot to your music anymore. In fact, it was an anomaly if he let you play it anymore. Now, he tapped his foot to Chrissy's music.

You loved Chrissy, and you loved Eddie. But you didn't think Chrissy understood that you loved eddie. You weren't even sure at first, but once Chrissy started to get closer to him, it was a pressing fact.

Your blood burned bright crimson each time she made him laugh. Your core felt heavy, and you could no longer maintain eye contact, but you love both of them, so you ignore it.

"hey y/n, mind if Eddie drops you off at my house too?" She asked.

"uhh. Yeah. Course!" You say, glancing over at Eddie who just shrugged.

You were at Chrissy's house now, and after you greeted her parents she almost ran you upstairs to her room.

She shut the door carefully, and turned to you immediately.

"i have to tell you something." She smiled, smile wide and eyes gleaming.

You sit on her plush bed, crossing your legs. It was so much comfier than yours, so sometimes if you hung out you'd just chill out on it.

"oh yeah?"

"yeah!"

She sat next to you, gasping your hands in hers and bringing her face close to yours.

"promise you won't tell nobody?" She whispers, holding out her pinky.

You wrap your finger around hers, course, you say.

"I think I have a crush on Eddie."

Oh no.

Oh fuck no.

This. Is terrible. This is the worst.

It'd honestly be better if you just dropped dead, or like.. got struck by lightning. Maybe falling into the ocean in a forever locked car.

But this? Fuuuuuuuck no.

You choke down the lump in your throat, and try not to stammer.

"o-oh! That's great!" You manage to say through gritted teeth.

"yeah! He's so cute, isn't he?"

Of course he is

"and he's so sweet, he watches me practice and drives me home,"

He watched me first. He drived me first.

"and he lets my play my music in his van! Y'know, I think he actually likes it, I always see him sneakily nodding his hea-"

"hey, y'know what Chris? I'm feeling a bit sick. Headache, or something." You say, smiling bitterly and turning for her door.

"are you okay? We have headache medication-"

"yeah. I know. I'm just gonna go home though, if that's okay,"

"yeah of course that okay, I hope you'll be better tomorrow!" She calls, but her front door was already closed.

You walk back to your home, as a creeping realization hits you that your house is the other way. Like, miles in the wrong direction. You stomp and try to trudge in, but as rocks fill your shoes and the heels of your feet start to sore, you sigh. You have to find a payphone.

You dial in Eddie's number.

"hey. Can you pick me up? I'm a block away from Chrissys house."

I went thru my folder with old hockey magazines I had saved from around 2011 to 2015 and came across this one and thought it could be a fun to make a post about now in hindsight.

This is Jääkiekko magazine from May 2012, they always have a section of "99 questions with ..." and in this issue they interviewed Teräväinen.

I’ve translated the questions I found interesting under the cut! It ended up being about half of the interview. (*) are my additions.

On the cover "seuraava superjokeri" means the next super joker, he played for Helsingin Jokerit so it's a word play from that. Under, on the blue print it says: "The 17-year-old forward will become a first round draft pick in the summer. The natural goal scorer can dominate in SM-Liiga as soon as next season."

In the 2nd photo the headline and lead paragraph goes:

"A post with dents* - A year ago Teuvo Teräväinen was known only within a small number of hockey insiders. Few passers-by recognize him now either but after a flashy rookie season the Jokerit sensation is on the radar of every NHL team and is a strong contender to become a first round draft pick. Next season with Jokerit the talented second line center will be one of the main talking points in the SM-Liiga."

3. You've been described as a magician, top scorer, wunderkind and a prodigy. What do you think of these descriptions?

TT: Heh, those are some descriptions yeah. What can I really say? Don't really wanna comment on them much.

4. How nervous are you about the Draft?

TT: I try not to be nervous as best as I can. In a way I don't have anything to be nervous about since I don't care which team picks me or at what number I go.

6. Which is stressing you more, English interviews or physical tests?

TT: Maybe both. Bench press (laughs) and English interviews can be tough.

12. How far along have you planned your career with, for example, your parents or your agent?

TT: Haven't really planned things with others but I've thought about them myself. I try to go step by step and not jump too far ahead.

14. How does it feel to be so young with all the star players in Jokerit?

TT: How to say it? I haven't felt like I was young but a part of the team instead. The team's been very good with me and they haven't been looking down at me like: "oh he's young". It's been fun to play in an experienced team.

15. Is there a generational gap between players?

TT: You can see the age difference, older players look older but we're all childish, at least with our topics.

17. What does a 17-year-old do in the sauna nights of the team?

TT: I actually haven't been in any yet. I've always been at national team's camps or something.

19. Did you get the number you wanted?

TT: I did, yeah. I could've taken #18 but Semir (Ben-Amor) has it. But i'm happy with #86, it's good.

23. What are your strengths as a player?

TT: Offensive play and with that playing with the puck, passing, IQ, power play and skill, just the usual skill - skill with hands.

24. And weaknesses?

TT: They are to do with defensive play, strength and physicality. Battles and such but I think I took a step forward last season. That's a good thing.

25. Have you ever been "pressed into a mold" or has your playing style gotten to develop naturally?

TT: As a kid the play was mostly offensive/attacking, I didn't have to think about playing defence. Up until 15 years old, I got to attack pretty freely. Playing defence became more important when I started to play in A-juniors a couple seasons ago.

26. On a scale from 1 to 10 how determined are you?

TT: Maybe 8, feels like an 8.

32. What kind of role are you planning to take with Jokerit next season?

TT: I think a pretty big one. I try to be a top player and not just take others' example but give others example myself too. So that someone in the team can take something out of the way I do things on the ice and off the ice.

35. If you could pick anyone, who would be your car driver?

TT: Nico Manelius for sure. He's been my driver this season. I've had others too, like Riku Hahl but he's not nearly at the same level. Nico’s clearly the best.

36. What are the most important qualifications to be a good driver?

TT: The car is obviously important. Hahl's car is totally awful, he takes a lot of heat for it from the guys too. I wouldn't dare driving with him. Manelius is a steady performer, never lets you down.

38. What sports did you play as a 10-year-old?

TT: Hockey and floorball, probably football (soccer) during the summers at the time too.

42. When did you decide to focus only on hockey?

TT: So when I stopped playing other sports? Three years ago, before that floorball was kind of a side thing, I played a couple of games in the regular season and playoffs.

45. Do you follow floorball or other sports? Go to games?

TT: I don't go to games but I like to watch floorball on TV, it's an interesting sport. Sometimes I watch football too but I don't follow it much. Feels like they never score there.

47. Have you ever played with a wooden stick?

TT: As a kid I did play with a wooden stick.

49. You won the hockey players' golf tournament last summer even though there were more experienced players too. Are you good with all stick games?

TT: Well, I've been pretty good in all of them. I've played golf for a long time and still play it.

50. How is your swing?

TT: Pretty bold, kind of a hockey swing. I don't really care where the ball goes - as long as it goes far.

52. What do you think of off-ice training?

TT: Let's just say it's more stupid than being on the ice but you still gotta do it to be better on the ice.

56. Which word describes your professional relationship (with his coach, Tomek Valtonen), tranquil or colorful?

TT: Colorful of course. At times we're joking around, other times it's more serious but the relationship is really good.

57. Coaching you has been described in many words: good, bad, worse. What are they?

TT: Heh, well... I won't tell them here. He (Tomek) keeps the discipline during practices but sometimes when things haven't gone to a plan I've had to jump on an exercise bike in the middle of a practice.

58. What have been the reasons?

TT: I'll quote Tomek: "when I haven't been present".

59. Have you ever tried to turn the resistance of the bike to zero?

TT: (Laughs) Of course I have and sometimes I've even succeeded.

60. Describe your diet in three words?

TT: Greasy, healthy and good!

64. Your first name is not common for people your age. How did your parents come up with it?

TT: I actually don't even know. Maybe they didn't want a usual Ville*....

(*very common name for men of all ages in Finland)

66. Which of these is the most important: skill, unexpectedness or courage?

TT: Skill!

68. Your longest video game stint?

TT: Six hours, at least. I've played a lot of War of Duty lately.

72. The dumbest thing that has made you upset in hockey?

TT: Probably if I didn't get an assist on a goal even though I should have. Or even worse is if I score and they mark it down for someone else.

79. Have you had any concussions?

TT: I haven't had any, I've managed to always dodge them.*

(*ouch, tho it's good the recent one is his only as far as i remember)

84. In 2011 Team Finland finished in the 5th place at the U-18 tournament. Why only as 5th?

TT: Because we lost to Team Russia in the quarter final, just as well we could have won that game too.

89. You didn't get to be on the ice to accept the SM-Liiga bronze medal (because of the U-18's). When and where did you get it?

TT: I actually still haven't received it, I don't know where it is.

93. What is the population of Helsinki?

TT: There's like 5 million people in Finland so maybe around 500k in Helsinki? (to be exact 596k) Did i really get it right...?

94. Who's the mayor of Helsinki?

TT: I don't know, I barely know the president.

95. Do you think the municipalities in the capital city area should merge?

TT: Luckily I don't have to decide but they probably shouldn't.

96. What do you check first in the news paper?

TT: The sports section.

97. Your favorite tv show?

TT: Putous* was pretty good, I liked a lot of the characters. The grandma was pretty good.

(*Finnish live improvisation comedy/sketch show (there are still new seasons, the latest just finished). Every actor comes up with a humor character with a catchy phrase and one of them wins. "The grandma" is Marja Tyrni and I just got such flashbacks from typing this sentence.)

98. Last book you read?

TT: I don't read many books. The last book was a study book, a Finnish book. I wrote an essay on Tiki (Esa) Tikkanen's biography. An eventful book, great career and a lot of chirps.

99. Who should we ask the 99 questions next?

TT: Riku Hahl could have good stories, he's also seen a lot of the world.

The Oscar Effect on Careers By Susan King

Does winning an acting Oscar change the career of the recipient? The answer is yes and also no. Take Brad Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor last year for ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (2019). He’s a veteran superstar with over three decades in Hollywood. So, the award is more icing on the cake for his career. But that wasn’t the case when he earned his first nomination for Terry Gilliam’s 12 MONKEYS (‘95). Pitt was on a hot streak since gaining attention for his roles in THELMA & LOUISE (‘91), A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (‘92), INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (‘94) and LEGENDS OF THE FALL (‘94), and his first Oscar nominations gave his career an even bigger boost.

Similar to Pitt, many young actors discovered their stock in Hollywood with Oscar gold, but nominations and wins have effected various stars’ careers in different ways. Here’s a look at various Oscar winners and how the award affected their careers.

Martin Landau

The Oscar has changed the career trajectory of many veteran actors. Martin Landau was making such TV movies The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island (’81) that just squandered his talents. But that all changed when he earned his first Oscar nomination for Francis Ford Coppola’s TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM (’88), followed by a second for Woody Allen’s CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS (’89), eventually winning for his poignant performance as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s ED WOOD (’94).

Ironically, Landau told me in a 2010 L.A. Times interview he didn’t think he could play the Dracula star. “It’s a Hungarian morphine addict, alcoholic who has mood swings,” he remembered telling Burton. “That would be hard enough, but it has to be Bela Lugosi! I said I don’t know if I can do this, but let’s do some tests.”

Makeup artist Rick Baker transformed Landau into the elderly frail actor. Burton, he recalled, looked at the tests and thought he was 50% Lugosi. Landau believed he captured the icon in fleeting moments. “I said if I can do it 10% of the time, I can do it 100% of the time. They have to accept me as Lugosi in the first five minutes or we don’t have a film. It was not an impersonation for me. He had to be a human being.”

Melvyn Douglas

Similarly, Melvyn Douglas, who was best known for his comedic roles in the 1930s and ‘40s in such films as NINOTCHKA (’39), had seen his career slow in the 1950s because of his liberal political leanings. But he came back to the forefront in 1960 after winning a Tony Award for Gore Vidal’s THE BEST MAN, and then receiving his first of two supporting actor Oscars for his turn as Paul Newman’s hard-working Texas rancher father in Martin Ritt’s HUD (’63). Seven years later, he received a Best Actor nomination as Gene Hackman’s father in I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER (’70), ultimately winning his second Oscar as the president of the United States in Hal Ashby’s BEING THERE (’79).

Luise Rainer

The German stage actress was signed to an MGM contract in the mid-30s. But the free-spirited Rainer, who considered herself an actress and not a movie star, was always at logger heads with studio head Louis B. Mayer. She told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview, Mayer “couldn’t make me out. You know it was a little bit difficult for him. I wasn’t the type that he was used to. So, the poor man didn’t know what to do with me. For my first film, ESCAPADE [‘35], William Powell said [to him] you got to star that girl…My first film made me a star.”

Rainer won Best Actress as famed performer Anna Held in THE GREAT ZIEGFELD (’36) and as a Chinese peasant in THE GOOD EARTH (’37). All but one of her subsequent films didn’t do well at the box office and she left Hollywood. She made one film, HOSTAGES (’43), guest starred on some TV series including a voyage on The Love Boat and had a small part in indie film THE GAMBLER (’97).

Art Carney  

One of the greatest comedic actors, Carney came to fame in the Honeymooners sketches on The Jackie Gleason Show and The Honeymooners series as Ralph Kramden’s (Gleason) best pal, the clueless sewer worker Ed Norton. He won five Emmys for his work with Gleason. Carney also originated the role of neatnik Felix Ungar opposite Walter Matthau’s Oscar Madison in the 1965 Broadway production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.

Well-known that he had a drinking problem, Carney wasn’t working that much in film or TV in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In fact, he tried to convince Paul Mazursky he wasn’t right for the filmmaker’s heartfelt dramedy HARRY & TONTO (’74) about a curmudgeonly old New Yorker who travels with his cat across country after he loses his apartment. Mazursky told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview that no one wanted the part. James Cagney, Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant and even Danny Kaye were among those who turned him down. 

He had seen Carney on Broadway in 1957 in a dramatic role in The Rope Dancers.  “Of course, I had seen him in The Honeymooners. He didn’t want to do it,” noted Mazursky. “He said ‘I’m 59 years old and you want this guy to be in his 70s.’ I said, ‘Art, this is the first time I met you and you look like you are in your 70s – you’re balding, you wear a hearing aid and you have a bum leg.’ He told me, ‘You don’t want me, I’m an alcoholic.’ He had one bad night then nothing else. He had been out on a binge and he showed up on location in Chicago in a taxi in the morning loaded. I took him up to his room, put him in the shower and made him a pot of coffee. He was easy to direct.”

Carney won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for his turn, beating out the likes of Jack Nicholson for CHINATOWN and Al Pacino for THE GODFATHER PART II. And he did some of his best work post-Harry including as an aging Los Angeles private detective in the charming THE LATE SHOW (’77) and as a senior who teams up with his buddies (George Burns and Lee Strasberg) to rob a bank in GOING IN STYLE (’79). He earned his sixth Emmy for the TV movie Terrible Joe Moran (’84), which was James Cagney’s last film.  Carney’s final film was the 1993 Arnold Schwarzenegger disaster LAST ACTION HERO. “I’m outta here” was the last line Carney ever uttered on film.

How are you so good at drawing what is your tips? Did you use bases?

First of all, thank you.

I’ve been at this the majority of my life so part of it is definitely putting the time in. I think a key component that is often overlooked is not every little odd and sod doodle you do needs to become a fully rendered masterpiece. Sometimes it’s enough as a sketch and you move on to another piece.

Also there’s no harm in doing it again. Maybe the sketch is starting to get overworked and cluttered. Pop a fresh layer on top and lower the opacity of the old one to like... 10%. Do it again. Keep it loose... you can constrain yourself to cleanliness later.

I’ve never used bases. They weren’t really available when I was first really developing my skills back in the early-mid 2000s since I had a dial up connection and no printer. I think I used those shitty “how to draw manga” books that were popular at the time. They instilled using guides before drawing so I can’t say they were all that bad. Part of it was also copying images drawn by artists I liked so I could get a feel for how they did things.

I know digital art is all the rage now but if there’s one thing I can suggest people dabbling in, is drawing in a ballpoint pen. No pencil guides. Just straight to the pen. Sure you can’t erase your mistakes, or even the original guides and gestures but because of that you’re more likely to learn control and confidence. Even to this day, a simple ballpoint pen is one of my favourite tools to draw with and no digital program as of yet has replicated that feeling.

They’ll be messy... unrefined... you might smudge one or two... but you’ll come out a better artist for trying, I promise. (I’ve got many that don’t usually see the light of day but often end up being reworked into something else)

HISTORY

potential triggers — car accident, parental death, divorce

so she’s grown up on on the west coast p much ??? her whole life. her mom worked as a bodyguard for sum famous peeps, dad was doctor but occasionally also a medic in the field — they didn’t always see eye to eye and divorced when chris was around nine. it was mostly to do with chris’ future like whether she’d go to spy prep school and follow in their footsteps and her dad didn’t want that for her so they disagreed, and she lived with him instead, living a more or less normal life. her mom then moved away when the opportunity to become a professor at gallagher presented itself, so they’ve really not been close at all since then

lived fairly comfortably, either way her dad had money and her mom sent support too. her father definitely earns less from no longer being in the spy world but he vowed to leave that behind when he divorced his wife and other than a few people from his past popping up unannounced, he kept that vow. they moved around a couple times in order to keep chris safe, and especially when someone did find them ( even if it was friendly ) but mostly grew up in california, and a lot of it is to do with the fact chris loves it there so much

but chris knows about the spy world, what her mom does and the type of school she works at, but it never interested her enough to try and reach out or fight her dad on it as she enjoyed her life 

she remembers her mom as someone stubborn, argumentative, volatile which is the opposite of her dad who was patient, loving and endearing — so it’s a no brainer for her, she loves her dad a lot and he gave up a lot for her while her mom gave chris up for that world, her job, etc aka nada

BUT her dad died in a car accident recently that she was also in but was only a bit beaten up at most ( has some cuts / new scars, learn more below ) leaving her mother to swiftly pick her up and enrol her into gallagher, more to keep an eye on her than anything. 

her mom chose her majors and some of her classes for her, which chris is mad about, but mainly bc looking at what ones were offered she’d def pick macgyver anyway, and her mom argued p+e was a step into the physical and combat side of thing without being too heavy on it ( tho it’s the major she teaches so she’s biased and chris just thinks she wants to be closer ) but tbh ? chris just doesn’t want her mom to be right whatsoever or have the satisfaction of thinking she knows her daughter in anyway at all but she knows if she went undecided she’d probably pick those up again in her second year so she’s just ‘ going with it ‘ begrudgingly as if she has no choice

PERSONALITY

extremely stubborn, which she gets from her mom, would rather ruin her life than go back on something or admit she was wrong, if she apologises for something she'll find a way to do it where she's not actually ever saying the words ' im sorry ' or ' i was wrong ' and would rather start another argument than do that — but obviously she loves other people apologising to her

she is generally nice ??? i just think she can be irritated easy ?????? like a bit of a hot head tho she'd argue she's chill, she is mostly chill but likes to debate, be right, and can be very my way or the high way at times — i’ll figure her out more as i play her bc i can’t tell if she’s mean or not but i don’t think so, just a bit tougher than she needs to be 

in my head she’s like a seb/luc hybrid so . . . take that as you will 

doesn’t dislike gallagher ( mostly ) but thinks all the legacies — even tho she technically is one, she doesn’t identify as one — are entitled spoiled brats and should get their heads out of their ass, doesn't like that being a legacy is even a thing though a lot of it definitely comes from her bitter resentment towards her mom and how she'd have rather leave her and her dad than leave the spy life hbsjhbsjhb also i think bc of her mom she has level 5 clearance which . . . she’s not complaining about but definitely complaining that clearance levels are even a thing, she’s gonna contradict herself a lot, i feel it

i THINK she’s only arrived, like, at the start of spring semester tbh, she wasn’t here for fall so she is new new

halfway through her first year at stanford studying art alongside film and media as a minor before her mom brought her to gallagher — which she's kind of not happy about like she understands her dad didn't want it for her, she also wanted to just stay in california but the only family she has now is on her mom's side.

she's still enrolled at stanford, though dropped her minor, and is studying online for her major as she's made it clear to her mom she doesn't want to be a spy so she pulled a few strings with the stanford admission board to allow her studying to continue ( idek if this is allowed i'm just pretending her mom is powerful enough to do it ) — it was a big reason chris agreed to come to gallagher, not that she had much of a choice, bc she wants her ‘ normal ‘ life and her ‘ normal ‘ degree regardless of being at a spy school

only her mom calls her christina and she actually hates it so pls dont unless you are trying to get on her bad side — also she probs avoids her mom like the plague so don’t bring that up either

often covered in little cuts and bruises from her skating but she’s got two fresh / soon to be scars on the left side of her face on the top of her cheek bone and on her jaw from a shards of glass when she was in the car accident — she is the type to pick her scabs until they bleed again, too, so i picture her with loads of little scars especially on her hands, elbows and knees

she did learn self defense from her dad growing up and she has studied jiujitsu and akido since she was around thirteen, she also boxes but it's more casual like for stress and stuff rather than something she takes overly seriously

she likes surfing, diving, enjoys the kind of world that exists underwater where it's just peaceful and calm so she will be around the lake a lot / at the pool if you need to find her

she’s 5’3 and never wears heels

pansexual and while it might change i wanna say she's not overly sexual, like wouldn't have hookups for no reason ?? but potentially some one night stands or drunken mistakes or whatever. doesn't look down on sluts but i think she doesn't have the most confidence in that area, or in self esteem in general, so she'll ??? only really have a frequent thing if she feels Hella comfortable

the type to have crushes tho, but not act on them at all bc again self esteem issues 

bit of a tomboy, skater, stoner — though she wouldn't identify as one — really loves movies and can be a proper filmophile, probably has more film soundtracks on her spotify unwrapped than she does actual artists and don't get her started on Women— in film bc she won't stop 

very active, sporty, probs trying to parkour around campus

enjoys painting, sketching, simply creating things — often is filming, riding a longboard, working on some kind of little project she'll take too seriously but won't show people until it's perfect

is a little pretentious at times ??? doesn't necessarily mean to be but if it's a debate on a topic she's passionate about ( such as art, film, etc ) then she will try to ensure you know just how knowledgeable she is on it, she's not afraid to flex but she wouldn't outwardly flex for no reason if that makes sense 

she also . . . feels p dumb at gallagher tbh, a lot of her strengths lie in her creativity and art and now she’s very ??? wtf am i doing ?? but she will continue to act like she knows !

can speak english, french, german and spanish all pretty fluently, italian well enough to get by, knows a bit of japanese bc she’s . . . a weeb sometimes but also bc of her martial arts

The main 10 cheering up a crying Scholar (Y/N) finally part 2!

Here are Neha, Raquel and Tadashi! I had to cut the last 5 in 2 posts because tumblr doesn't allow more than 250 blocks of text... But anyway! I finally did it! It's been 84 years... though I feel like those are not really headcanons anymore. They're all so long that it would be more accurate to say that they're scenarios. Sorry! It's probably gonna be really annoying scrolling up and down.

Neha

- crying is a really good way to let your emotions out and it always worked out for you

- whenever it's all too much you make yourself cry to feel better afterward

- one day, once you finished crying your phone rang

- it's from Neha, she's inviting you to her room

- oh boy.

- when you moved into the dorms Karolina did say that the previous owner of the room would put loud music on and they would hear it

- 'did Neha hear me cry?' God you hope not

- When you knock, the door immediately opens as if Neha was right in front of it waiting for you

- She pulls you in and starts taking your measurements

- "I've decided to use you as my model for my next outfit."

- "W-what?!?"

- now you're almost sure that she did hear you, or else why would she make an outfit just for you when she's got Karolina?

- surprisingly a few days later the outfit is done! Does it really take that little time usually? You're pretty sure that Neha already had the design ready in her sketchbook

- during that time though, everyday until the "outfit" was ready she would go out of her way to talk to you everyday even though she's usually either busy or with Karolina

- she knows that it annoys her but even when Karolina was around Neha would still come and chat with you for a bit

- You're guessing that she didn't want you to feel like you're alone in your hard times

- when the outfit was done she called you over again

- "Here, try it on!"

- there's more excitement in her voice than usual and it's really freaking cute

- "You mean right here, right now?"

- she keeps staring at you in silence before coming back to her senses

- "Oh, right. Sorry. I'll turn away while you change."

- but then while you're taking your clothes off the door flows open

- "Neha, did you see my-"

- Karolina looks at the both of you and while she's trying to process the scene all that she gets from the situation is: you taking your clothes off in their room, and Neha waiting for you to take them off while facing away?

- "N... Nevermind. Just do your thing I'll come back in one hour. Or uh, two hours. Actually."

- She closed the door in a hurry. Welp. She probably misunderstood.

- Neha kept on facing the wall but you could see her ears getting red

- that little accident is quickly forgotten when you've put the outfit on

- it's so elaborate and classy. it's making you feel self-concious

- Even though Neha was the one who made the outfit she blushed when she saw you in it

- "You look so lovely- uh. I mean the dress! The dress looks lovely on you, obviously, since I'm the one who made it."

- her bashfulness is making you blush too but you tell her that you can't pay for it

- "Are you kidding? It's a gift I've made for you. No one else in the world owns this and won't own it because I won't put it on sale. It's a special outfit only for you."

- She takes her sketchbook and rips out a page, it's a sketch of the outfit and... you're the one wearing it on the drawing!

- "To be honest, I had already heard you crying a few times in your room and I didn't know how to help. So uh... I guess what I mean is. I've been planning this for a long time but I wasn't brave enough to ask for your measurements until recently and um..."

- She's rambling and rambling, you've probably never heard her talk this much

- "Basically... when you're sad come over. Or ask me to come over, whatever. Our rooms are right next to eachother so whether you cry in your room or here I'll hear you anyway so you might as well be with me."

- this was maybe not the best way to phrase it, but you got the feeling she was going for and that's all that matters

Raquel

- Noticed that you weren't feeling good right away

- but more in a "are you catching a cold?" kinda way

- but it didn't have anything to do with your health

- You actually wanted to explain what happend as soon as it did but when you tried to, tears came down immediately from the very first sentence

- Raquel grabbed you by the shoulders

- "It's okay! You can tell me later if it's too hard."

- The next day when you were getting ready to go to school Raquel came to your room dressed in casual clothes

- "Hey Y/N! Let's skip today."

- You tell her that you can't because you're a scholarship student and all but she ends up convincing you anyway

- "It's all fine, it's just for one day! Everyone thinks that you're a really hard-working, punctual and honest person! They'll believe whatever you say."

- "Raquel... I am a hard-working, punctual and honest person..."

- "Exactly! And that's why you can take advantage of that and no one will doubt you."

- Oh well...

- it's not like you were looking forward to that math test anyway

- you sneak around and get out of the school through Raquel's knowledge of... blind spots?

- you feel a little guilty about it since you'll have to lie to the teachers later about "not feeling well"

- Raquel makes you forget that pretty easily though

- "Okayyy! Now let's go have our breakfast, I know a place."

- "Ah, cool."

- "You don't sound really excited... But you know, the both of us sneaking out of school to go on a date: isn't it a little bit like we're secretly lovers during war time between two kingdoms in a movie?"

- Wait, this was a date?? You had no idea

- You spent the whole day just walking around town in different fast foods, parks, and shops

- everytime you wanted to buy something Raquel would try to buy it for you

- You refused everything except the food, she was being extremely pushy about paying for the food

- on the way back you decide to tell her about your troubles again, this time hopefully you won't burst into tears

- She's incredibly understanding and doesn't let you downplay your feelings

- anytime you say "it may sound stupid"/"maybe I'm being too emotional" she's like

- "No! Fuck that! There's a reason why you feel this way and it's not dumb."

- You get a little bit teary eyed and before you can even think about crying Raquel hugs you

- then she whispers in your ear

- "Did it hurt?"

- "Uh... what?"

- At first you thought she meant your feelings because obviously it did hurt, you just spent like 20 minutes explaining what had happened

- but then you understood

- is she seriously trying to cheer you up with pick-up lines?

- "So did it hurt or did it not?"

- "You mean, when I fell from heaven?"

- She makes the biggest grin before replying

- "No, when you fell for me."

- You're trying your best not to burst into laughter

- "Nah, not really. It was a quick fall."

- Oh no, you outsmarted her lame pick-up line

- you guys end the day with the most stupid pick-up line fight

- little do you know that Raquel will shoot a ball in the face of a certain someone for hurting you

- maybe multiple times if she feels like it

Tadashi

- To be honest he didn't really notice at first

- maybe it was one of your "bad days", Tadashi knows what it's like so he totally gets it

- but then when it's been 3 days in a row and you're still in that state?

- he cancels all of his work and assignements for the day

- calls you over in such a professional manner that it's kinda scary

- he literally asks you to meet him in the student council's room

- tells you to "please sit down" in front of him

- Honestly, this situation is making you really tense. Did Tadashi figure out that one time, 3 months ago, when you stole a smoothie from the cafeteria?

- "Look, I'm sorry okay? I was just really thirsty and I needed sugar. Also, it's not like I wasn't allowed to get one! There was no one at the counter so I figured it wouldn't hurt to..."

- Tadashi IAmConfusion™ looks at you

- "Why are you talking about that now? Don't worry, I know."

- Now it's your turn to get confused

- "You mean... you knew and you didn't give me detention?"

- Now he looks a bit frustrated

- "Come on Y/N, I'm not that mean. I won't give you detention just because you came 5 minutes late to our meeting."

- This is most likely a misunderstanding...

- "This is what you were talking about just now, right? That the reason why you came here late is because you were drinking a smoothie. I figured you were probably busy doing something so no need to feel so guilty about it."

- "Oh. Oooohhh... yeahh... totally. Sorry."

- Now that this is out of the way, he asks you to tell him what's on your mind

- At first you hesitate a little but, if there's someone with whom you want to share this with, it's Tadashi

- he's listening really closely to what you're saying without cutting you off but sometimes you can see his eyes getting a bit darker

- Like, you're not being specific enough about a detail or something and he's probably taking notes of all the questions he has so that he can ask them when you're done

- At some point though, you become really emotional and your voice starts cracking when you're talking

- You end up crying and your tears fall on the desk

- Tadashi jumps out of his seat, his chair falls down as he panics

- "Hey! Y/N?? Err... Um..."

- Takes you in his arms carefully, like he's not really sure if that's what he's supposed to do when this type of thing happens

- "It's okay! I'm here... I'm here so... d-don't cry Y/N I'll do something about it no problem!"

- when you've calmed down he puts down his wallet on the desk

- "Uh... what?"

- "You can use it."

- "You mean your money??"

- "What else?"

- he explains that you can take all the smoothies and premium food in the cafeteria with this

- "Are you kidding? I can't use your money for that."

- He's literally trying to cheer you up with money which is obviously not the way to go about it

- He sees that you're not convinced so he pulls out his phone and shoves the screen on your face so closely that you have to take a step back in order to read what's on it

- It's Tadashi's to do list, probably the place where he writes all of his tasks for the week

- The spot on number one is you. It reads "1. Y/N"

- when you look at him Tadashi is furiously blushing and looking away

- this is incredibly sweet until you notice how wrong this sounds

- "Wait... Tadashi?"

- "Yes?"

- "I'm first on your... "To do" list? Seriously?"

- "What's that's supposed to mean? Of course you're number one on my- Oh god..."

- he just understood how wrong it sounded and took the phone back before rewriting the list

- He's making it so easy for you to tease him

- the poor boy is literally begging you to stop it but you can't until he shows you his phone screen again

- this time it's written "1. Make Y/N smile again", you're literally his number one priority. This is so sweet to the point where you can't tease him anymore. It would be too mean.

- As for Tadashi, let's just say that he's about to get "really mean" with the person you were talking about just now and he's not going to hold back

Summary: You have a gift, the ability to see other people’s innermost secrets. For years you used it to gather intel for the highest bidder when you take on The Widow. After she becomes more than a mark the two of you spend years stealing moments. Post snap you wait in your designated meeting place, look back on the sordid past you share with the woman you love and hope against everything that she’s still alive.

A/N: Ah, my poor OC/Reader. So infatuated. So stressed. So about to be in over her head. 

(Also, to my knowledge we don’t know exactly when MCU Natasha graduated from The Red Room so I picked an age that worked for my story.)

Natasha didn’t seem to notice the clear signals she projected nor that your unique brain absorbed each and every one. Or if she did she hid it. She sits back on the bed crossing her legs and gathering the rest of the little vodka bottles to her.

“So,” she asks opening another, “just what kind of freak are you?” Your brows raise in a silent question. “Born freak or made freak.”

“Never met a made freak…” Something to dig into, “Though in all fairness never met a born one either. Never met anyone like me.”

“Born, then?”

“Yeah.”

“Alabama?”

You’re genuinely surprised, “Damn, spot on there.”

“I’m a made freak,” she downs the bottle.

“Oh?” You steel yourself, “What exactly…”

“I’m a weapon.” She forms a gun with her fingers and aims it at you, “A damn good one.”

The tension in you releases, you thought she was going to reveal some power, an ability like your own. “Is that so bad?” She just shrugs.

Silence hangs thick for a few minutes. “Alright,” your voice feels like a gunshot, “let’s get to work.” She just stares at you, “I’m good but like any hunting dog I need to be pointed in a direction. You’ve got to have some ideas about who’s put this bounty on you.”

“That’s a long list.”

“I don’t sleep much,” you shrug and flash her a smile. “Come on,” you pull the notepad by the phone to you and the hotel pen, “start listing potentials.”

Over an hour later your head is spinning. “How fucking long have you been at this?” You were both born in ’84… only 20… but you’d lived so many lifetimes by then and there was no question she had too.

“Graduated at 14,” she says nonchalantly.

“Graduated?”

“From The Red Room. Been working since.”

You ran a hand over your face, letting out a long sigh. “So in six years-“

“That’s from the last two.”

“Fuck me,” you groan, she laughs and you can’t help but smile. “Ok, you’re obviously not done, so keep going.”

Natasha takes a deep breath before listing more names of people and syndicates. It becomes like static as your brain searches for pertinent information, “The Yugo Brotherhood, then there’s-“

“Stop,” you hold up your hand to pause. Eidetic memory, was the best word for it, though it didn’t quite cover it. Anything you absorb you can, for better or worse, recall with pinpoint accuracy. Great for your job. Terrible for being a functional human. “You took out the fucking Cobra didn’t you?!” Just a shrug.

“Need another drink?” Natasha asks, a small smile playing on her lips.

You hold out your glass, “Make it a double.” Your fingers brush over her’s as she hands the glass back to you and a shiver climbs up your spine, “Thank you.” After a sip you take a deep breath and close your eyes, pulling up everything you have on the Yugoslavian Brotherhood.

Names and dates begin pouring out, your hand racing across the pages in your short form, scrawling out the information. Tearing off the page and going on to the next, you’re like a machine. Then your hand starts sketching the outline of a face, a man, automatic. You stop yourself as it’s not necessary.

Natasha was hovering over watching, fascinated. You hadn’t noticed her. Three pages in her hands.

“Sorry, I kinda zone out once this,” you tap your forehead, “get’s going.”

“You just… remembered all of this?” She looks at the pages, trying to decipher them.

“Mhm, part of the package.” You reach for the pages, “You won’t be able to decode those.”

She flashes you a side glance, “This is short for, underworld,” she points to the mix of symbols letters. “Don’t assume,” she hands them to you and sits on the opposite side of the table.

“Impressive.”

“Well made,” she says dryly.

You stare at the dark screen of your phone. Willing it to light up. Any number, any country, you’d answer. Because maybe…

The sun was setting. A few stragglers had wandered into the hotel, all looking dazed, lost. Did you look like that? Did it matter?

You let your mind wander back.

It didn’t take you long to narrow in on what mercs would have picked up the Brotherhood’s hit the fastest…

- Nov. 2004 -

“That doesn’t sound like a suicide mission at all,” your stare is incredulous.

“I can handle myself.”

“Yeah, no one is disputing that. But you don’t have-“

“Enough,” she pushes past you and it takes every ounce of self-control for you to not grab her.

It turned out that the hit on Natasha had indeed been put on her by the Brotherhood. The day before you had pulled corroborating information from two different men that Europe’s top two mercs had picked up that the Widow was in Vienna. Rather than risk going after her solo they were apparently teaming up, willing to split the sizable bounty for the glory of taking her out. She didn’t want to wait, was instead determined to crash their makeshift HQ.

You had spent the better part of the last three hours pointing out to her the obvious issues. They would have home-field advantage, there were at least two of them, they were both skilled killers. She of course scoffed, she was better than them and would be sending their head’s to the Brotherhood as a clear message.

Leaning against the door you watch her gear up, teeth grinding, brain whirring trying to find any way to get her to stop. Natasha was unquestionably exceptional at what she did, but in this instance, she was being arrogant.

Done covering her body in a small arsenal she stares you down. You don’t move. “Please,” she sighs, “don’t make me move you, Y/N.”

“If you die that’s on me,” she won’t meet your eyes.

“If you feel guilt over the consequences of a job well done you need to find a new line of work.” When she finally looks back it’s as though she’s donned a mask, “Now, get out of my fucking way.” You do, even though you feel like you’re moving through wet concrete.

Natasha opens the door with more force than necessary and steps out before pausing. She looks back at you, “Thank you… for the information. I won’t forget what I owe you.” Then she’s gone.

You collapse into a chair, head in your hands. For three days you had worked to dig up as much information as you possibly could to find just what kind of trouble she had gotten herself into. Unsurprisingly, it was all a tangled mess. But you had also spent much of that time with her.

At first, you thought she would be vapid, boring, just a gun in a pretty dress. Now you weren’t sure if you were happy or livid that she was anything but.

In lulls between research and tracking down sources you both hardly slept, instead, you just ate junk, guzzled caffeine, and talked about your favorite books, artists, music. Turned out she had a soft spot for classic rock and Anais Nin, both of which utterly surprised you.

One of the definite upsides to your ability was being able to tell if someone was lying to you, or fronting, she had done neither. Your exchange was candid, and you felt somehow honored that she chose to be real with you. In return you had been open with her, laying out what your original plan had been, telling her what information you needed to satisfy your S.H.I.E.L.D contact. Rather than having to pluck it from her she willingly gave you the intel.

It turned your stomach. The way The Red Room broke these girls to make them into weapons. Your own childhood hadn’t been a cake walk. Sold off to the highest bidder the moment your dad realized what useful skills you had and that plenty of underworld lowlives would be happy to have a handy little psychic on their side. But none of the brutality you had witnessed was calculated, none of it specifically formulated to break you, which somehow made it all less sinister in your mind.

All that she had been through and yet… deep under it all, there was something there, some spark, of humanity they couldn’t strip away. You felt it there every time she spoke about her own likes, every time you caught her glancing at you, every time you brushed against her (accidentally on purpose if you were being real).

You wanted to know her, really know her, you wanted- fuck. You get up and pace around the room. Anxiety growing with every circuit you make. Maybe an hour since she had left… enough time to get to their hideout… enough time for her to be…

“Goddammit!” You yell to nothing as you begin to gear up. Every sensible part of your brain is screaming at you. Lining up the reasons not to go after her, blasting them at full volume. But your brain wasn’t in control right now. Neither was your heart. This was your gut telling you something was going to go wrong, something you couldn’t live with.

A majority of respondents enjoyed the throwback or thought it was surreal to see Season 1 animation alongside Season 3.  

I think the quality of the first and second season was great. Frankly, Season 3 has been a bit disappointing in comparison, because its scenes (for the most part) have been very simple without a lot of movement or detail (despite being animated and not a still image). I think S03 is the least visually-striking season so far, with minor exceptions.

It made me reflect on the overall quality of this season. While I don't think is a bad season, it's definitely a downgrade compared to the first 2 seasons. On the first 3 episodes, the show got me excited as the first 2 seasons, but after that its just not that much exciting anymore. I really hope it improves on the next arc, since everyone are saying next arc is the best arc

Historia enslaves humanity like the biggest femme dom the world has ever seen

Historia would inherit Grisha's and Founding Titan's powers. If she would be able to resist the First King's will then Rod would be able to save humanity from the titans. If she wouldn't be able to resist the First King's will then Rod would lose another family member to the FT and the rest of humanity would get their memories erased.

Historia, with memories of the first king, would’ve probably erased the memories of everyone inside the walls

I doubt they would kill Eren at this point, so if he got eaten they would do something like the first season again (Eren "dies", but he is back because of some random reason), but that would be a horrible choice on the plot.

I think humanity would be screwed bc then Mikasa, best girl, would be too depressed to continue to help fight.

I thinking lots of shit will be avoided and more people would be saved I don't trust eren

Mikasa would've absolutely wreaked havoc, possibly even killing Historia. The Survey Corps would've had to fight Historia (assuming she got taken over by the First King's memories like Frieda and Uri), and maybe try to get her eaten by a mindless titan to regain humanity's 'ace'.

Things would have remained the same as it has always been for the past 100 years. Historia would have been controlled by the will of the first Reiss King. She wouldn't have saved humanity from the Titans and the Reiss family would have altered the memories of humanity and our main squad probably would have been caught and executed.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?

The sight of Eren's Titan carrying the bomb was awesomely surreal.

Mixed feelings overall. It was an exciting watch at the time, but in hindsight, it still feels like they're cutting critical details for the sake of time. Rod was too easy to defeat and didn't really amount to anything as a character or a threat, and Erwin's decision to let Historia participate in the battle didn't make any sense. It looked like they opted to give us Eren's POV on that scene instead of giving us Historia's, and I think whatever she said to convince Erwin was pretty obviously cut. This is disappointing because it makes the characters look like fools for taking unnecessary, unjustified, and illogical risks.

According to the poll this was the best episode so far in season 3. I, personally, didn't like it THAT much, but I wager there will be even better episodes in the future. If WIT keeps the streak of really good episodes going on, then Attack on Titan will regain it's popularity in the West.

This post might be in bad timing. Especially when the COVID-19 pandemic is in full force over here in the U.S. Then again, perhaps people need some distraction. Regardless. This entry is about Morrissey.

One of the first ‘Post Punk’ bands I was exposed to. I was maybe 14, 15, listening to a program on WNEW-FM. The program focused on (at the time) the latest Alternative music from the U.K. (Might have been the first time I heard Killing Joke as well.) The DJ spun The Smiths‘ classic ‘How Soon Is Now.’ It left an impression. In 1986, I saw The Smiths in concert at Pier 84. Now that I’ve admitted this, you can guess my true age.

Anyway, The Smiths concert was one of the better gigs I saw that year. Throughout my high school years during the ’80s, I owned most of The Smiths albums. In 1991, I had floor seat to Morrissey‘s sold out concert at Madison Square Garden. It was his first U.S. solo tour. I distinctly remember him doing a cover of The Jam’s ‘That’s Entertainment.’

As the ’90s went on, my life changed direction. Got more interested in the later Industrial bands, the Madchester bands from U.K., and had a brief affair with Rave culture. Hadn’t kept up with Morrissey too much. Although my Welsh friend did inform me about how Morrissey was slagged in the British press for a few things he said. Now thanks to social media, some of Morrissey’s views got the U.S. spotlight. Of course, in the age of ‘Cancel’ culture, people online were blasting Moz. Cancellations of his own shows weren’t helping either. Figuring I was content to coast on Smith memories, the last thing I expected was a chance to see Morrissey at one of my favorite venues, Forest Hills Stadium.

As fate would have it, tickets to Morrissey’s Queens gig were sent my way. At first I got razzed by associates for even considering going. But after two conversations over the summer, I decided to attend.

I’m glad I went.

No, I don’t agree with everything Morrissey says. Yet, I’m not going to deny the influence Morrissey had during my teen years. If it wasn’t for Morrissey, I wouldn’t been introduced to vegetarianism. During The Smiths glory days, Morrissey resonated with the introverts, the forlorn, the misunderstood, the chided. Wearing flowers in his jeans’ back pocket, he would dance onstage wearing NHS issued glasses. He represented the misfits who looked up to luminaries such as Oscar Wilde. The clues were in the iconic sleeve designs.

Prior to forming The Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr, Morrissey was a fan, just like you and me. He wrote books about James Dean and The New York Dolls. Morrissey shared his obsessions with poetic abandon. With The Smiths he reached the same adulteration he previously gave.

Attending the Morrissey concert at Forest Hills Stadium. Queens, NY. Sept. 2019. 

Late summer, early fall 2019. I decided to accept the tickets for Morrissey at Forest Hills Stadium. As a NYC resident living in the borough of Queens, I don’t live far from the venue. What a difference times makes. Growing up in Queens, everyone in my immediate neighborhood knew who BonJovi was, but had never heard of The Smiths. Now Morrissey was slated to play which could be considered my backyard. It was a bit of a weird feeling. Similar to when Culture Club performed at Forest Hills Stadium the year prior. My friend and I made it in time for opening act Interpol’s set. That was after security searched everyone’s bag as we were instructed not to bring any meat inside the venue. This was true. Security at the entrance were searching bags for meat, and making announcements that no animal based dishes would be sold at the concession stand. Occasionally a few security members snickered as they informed the crowd.

The seats my friend and I had weren’t the greatest. Soon after the Interpol set, my friend spotted two associates of hers, who invited us to sit with them. Their seats were center, with a much better view. Since it was the end of the season over at Forest Hills Stadium, security and ushers didn’t seem to care one bit. A lot more chill than the employees were last year. Ironically, no meat was allowed, but the smell of pot lingered everywhere.

Despite what the music press reported in the U.S., (lack of ticket sales) by the time Morrissey got on stage, Forest Hills Stadium was packed. On stage the screen flickered British nostalgia, ranging from ’60s fashion to early U.K. Punk. There were even shots of James Baldwin and Bruce Lee. Those images comforted me. You see, my mother was British, and part of her youth was spent in ’60s England. She passed away in 2015. Seeing those images flickering on the screen was personally appreciated.

Halfway through the concert, I was reminded why I became a Smiths, and a Morrissey fan in the first place. There were sparks of the same intensity Morrissey had way back in 1986, when I saw The Smiths live. The best part was when he performed that one song which introduced me to Morrissey’s world. That same song I heard way back on WNEW-FM, ‘How Soon Is Now?’

It’s still one of my favorite Smiths songs to this day.

Now that it’s March 2020, I don’t regret seeing Morrissey live.

Now that I have some downtime (thanks to COVID-19), I can post this Morrissey sketch. Hand drawn in pen and ink, digital color.

Just some feelings about the PLL finale and what people are saying..

Okay. To start off with I’m going to say that I am always an optimistic person. It’s the way my brain is programed. I always try to look at the best in things. I try not to look at the negatives or let the negatives of other people get me down. A lot of that has to deal with the fact that in my own personal life I have a family member who is the exact opposite of myself. But there are times where the negativity really can get to me and make me mad. And I can honestly say right now I’m mad. 

The finale is TWO hours. That is 84 minutes of screen time when you factor out commercials. In those 84 mins there are two things that need to be done, wrap up the AD storyline and wrap up the storylines of the girls with their own individual lives as well as their significant others.

From what all I have gathered we find out WHO AD is in the first 20 minutes or so (or the first act) like we did with Cece. Which means there isn’t a lot of time before the reveal. And honestly I prefer it that way. We know that we are picking up a year later. We know that Ezria’s wedding is about to happen when we pick back up. My guess is we see the girls all come back and seeing each other for the wedding, we get a little indication as to where everyone is at “post” AD (basically find out where all the ships stand), and then Spencer gets kidnapped by AD. I think the rest of the first hour after that is us finding out who it is, their backstory and Spencer being rescued. Some of that may poor into the second hour. Then for the remainder of the second hour focusing on life for real after AD and showing the ships getting their happy ending, then my guess is the full circle scene involves the Jenna/Addison scene. Possibly Addison being scared by Jenna in some way or her getting some sort of text that’s A like then roll credits.

To me that’s the very vague break down of what I think is going to happen. I know a lot of people are speculating based on promo stills and the clips from the promo about where certain scenes are at. Like for instance the scene of Spencer and Melissa at the stables, we know that leads into a spoby scene yet in the clip from the promo Melissa looks sketch which is making people think it’s at the beginning of the episode. I honestly think it could be either there or at the end after the AD drama is wrapped up.

Another one is the scene with all the girls as they are walking in the middle of town. Everyone seems to think that is the last scene of the girls together. Which has led to several spoby fans freaking out and tweeting Marlene because there is no ring on Spencer’s finger. They are saying “it’s unfair that spoby are the only ship not engaged and blah blah” we don’t know this is the last scene. And if you want to look at rings Ali isn’t wearing one either to which people say well it could be Emily wearing the ring.. well we don’t see her hand either. Same for Aria because if we could see her hand that would put an end to it because once Ezria gets married she’ll have a wedding band with her engagement ring. Also no one looks overly emotional in that scene. Everyone looks happy. Relieved even. The way Sasha described the last scene she apparently was losing it while they were filming. And it would be pretty obvious to tell that from the clip if she has been crying, even make up can’t cover up everything.

Also the scene of them outside the grill I thought maybe this could be the last scene too, but it’s not. Reason why? Aria’s hand on full display with just her engagement ring. Which means not the last scene.

And it’s like people are forgetting that we know they filmed a lot of stuff together. I mean I’ve seen people saying they think we only get 4 scenes of them what’s in the promo, spencer being rescued, and the scene at the stables. We know Spencer gets a scrabble board and Keegan posted that snap chat about a scrabble board. There is the limerence line. Toby saying that I know a girl who used to say hope breeds eternal misery. They filmed at LEAST two scenes as a group with the Ezria wedding and then something else. I’m excited about this finale (this is the first time I’ve been this excited for a season finale since probably 3x24) and seeing all this negativity is really bringing me down and I hate it because I like to be a positive person. I hate being negative. Can we all just stop with the freaking out and just think about how this show that has brought so many of us together over the years is coming to and end and how glad we are that it existed even if it drove us nuts sometimes?

84. “Those things you said yesterday… Did you mean them?”

Glinda couldn’t focus.

This wasn’t an unusual occurrence. In fact, it was rare for her to get through a class without her mind wandering, usually following whatever she was sketching in the margins of her notes that period. But today was different.

She knew Morrible was going to get on to her pretty soon, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. Why did she even come to class? She glanced over her shoulder, eyeing the door for a moment. How much trouble would she be in if she just left?

“Miss Glinda, do you have the answer?”

Glinda’s face burned as she turned back around. “No, Madame Morrible.”

Morrible’s face was smug. “Perhaps you would like to pay better attention, then.”

Glinda kept her eyes on her notebook, and after another long, agonizing moment, Morrible resumed her lecture. Just another half hour, Glinda thought. It can’t be that much longer.

Yet the class dragged on, Morrible’s voice an unintelligible drone at the front of the room. And all the while Glinda’s mind was wandering, hurrying out of the room and across campus, back to the room she shared with a certain snarky, passionate, and--at the moment--uncharacteristically vulnerable roommate.

Except, she wouldn’t be in the room. Elphaba had disappeared early in the morning, before Glinda was awake, and hadn’t been seen since.

Not that Glinda didn’t know where to find her. When the bell finally, finally chimed across campus, she threw her books into her bag and rushed out of the room, heading in a determined path toward the library. She didn’t stop as she climbed the front steps, didn’t hesitate as she slipped through the door and turned right, heading automatically for the corner on the second floor that only Elphaba occupied.

She thinks she’s so unpredictable, Glinda thought as she spotted Elphaba there. Taking a deep breath, she headed over to the table.

“Elphie.”

Elphaba’s knuckles tightened around her pen. “Never thought I’d see the day when you walked into a library on your own.”

“Well, I came to find you, so maybe it doesn’t count.” Glinda set her bag on the table, but she didn’t sit down. “Can we talk?”

“What do you think we’re doing right now?”

“Well, you’re being obnoxious, and I--”

“Funny.” Elphaba lay her pen down, but still didn’t quite look at her. “Well then? What is it?”

All day Glinda had rehearsed this. She knew a confrontation was coming, and had planned out every word. Now, of course, she couldn’t think of any of them.

“I...you know what I want to talk about,” she said, wringing her hands a little. Elphaba started to look up at her, but then changed her mind and focused on the journal she had been writing in instead.

“Do I?”

Glinda took a step closer. “Elphie.”

“What?”

“Those things you said yesterday.” She knelt next to Elphaba’s chair, forcing their gazes to meet, if only for a moment. “Did you mean them?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said it offhandedly, but Glinda saw something flash across her face. She reached out and touched Elphaba’s wrist.

“Last night,” she said firmly. “When...you told me...”

She faltered when Elphaba jerked her hand away. Without a word, she flipped her notebook shut and gathered her things, hurrying away from the table without a glance at Glinda.

For a moment all Glinda could do was continue kneeling, hand reached out toward an empty chair. Then she pushed herself to her feet and ran after Elphaba.

They were silent all the way back to Crage Hall. Glinda had to nearly run to keep up, and she was a step behind Elphaba until they reached their room. She carefully shut the door behind them and leaned against it.

“Elphaba.”

Elphaba had dropped her bag and was heading straight for the bathroom, but Glinda waved her hand and the door swung shut, cutting her off.

“Now that’s just unnecessary,” Elphaba grumbled.

“Please, at least look at me.”

Elphaba turned toward her, which Glinda supposed was progress, but she crossed her arms over her chest and kept her eyes down.

“I think I’ve made it pretty clear,” Elphaba said, “that I don’t want to discuss this.”

“Then why did you say it in the first place?”

“Consider it a moment of weakness.”

Glinda forced herself not to be hurt. “Then...at least let me have mine.”

Elphaba stayed silent, but she tilted her head forward just a little, and Glinda knew she was listening intently.

“Last night, when you said... Well, I just...I didn’t respond, because...” Glinda took a deep breath. “Because I’m terrified, too.”

Elphaba finally looked up. Their eyes met, and Glinda went on.

“So much has changed. With everything that’s happened--Ama Clutch and poor Doctor Dillamond, and now, with your sister arriving soon--I’m so afraid that...whatever this is, it’s going to get lost.” Her eyes stung, and she brushed at them angrily. “You’re going to get caught up in everything, or Morrible’s going to find out, or something, and I--I’ll lose you completely.”

Elphaba was quiet for a moment. Then, staring at the floor again, she said, “So you understand why I’ve been hiding.”

“Of course I do,” Glinda said. “That doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.”

“Isn’t it better to hurt now and get it over with, instead of dragging it out?”

“Why are you assuming I will ever get it over with?” she asked.

“It’s infatuation,” Elphaba said flatly. “Something new and exciting. You’ll move past it soon enough.”

“Infatuation doesn’t last for nearly two years,” Glinda said fiercely. “Don’t you dare disregard my feelings like this, Elphaba.”

Elphaba winced. “Sorry,” she mouthed. She cleared her throat. “I’m sorry. It’s just...easier, if you--”

“But I won’t. I won’t get over it, and I won’t let you hide away because you’re afraid.”

“You just said you were afraid, too.”

“Yes, and that’s why I hesitated last night. But today I’m confronting it.”

“And if you’re right? If you do end up losing me completely?”

Their eyes met, locked, and suddenly that was all Glinda could see: Morrible’s face as she recited her Quell, Dillamond lying unmoving beneath the blanket, his dead, blank stare glinting up at her, Ama Clutch, thin and pale and rambling nonsense up at her. And then more, things she had never seen before, but still felt just as real: a small, lumpy bed in a cold, noisy room; the dreary rolling of a carriage, and Elphaba slumped against her shoulder, unable to stay awake; the boys all around them, Glinda flushed and dizzy, and Elphaba’s hand in hers, keeping her grounded, pulling her away from the group, dragging her to the room, throwing her things in a bag, leading her out of Crage Hall, over the garden wall, and away, disappearing toward who knew what.

Glinda gasped, falling back against the door, and the spell was broken. Elphaba stepped closer, still hesitant, but clearly concerned.

“Glinda?”

“I’m in love with you,” she whispered, echoing Elphaba’s words from last night. The words felt vital, urgent, necessary to say before it was too late. “I love you.”

“You look like you’re about to pass out, my sweet.” Elphaba was in front of her then, so close that Glinda felt her knees shaking. Apparently this confirmed Elphaba’s fear, because suddenly she was in her arms, being led to sit on Elphaba’s bed. “Let me get you some water.”

Glinda grasped Elphaba’s hand, stopping her. “Don’t hurt me now,” she whispered. “Whatever comes will come, and we’ll have to let it. But don’t...just because...”

Elphaba knelt in front of her and held Glinda’s hand in both of hers. Her brow furrowed.

“Elphie. Please.”

Silence stretched between them. Glinda set her other hand on top of Elphaba’s. After a long moment, Elphaba nodded.

“I’m in love with you,” Glinda whispered again. Elphaba rose on her knees, letting go to plant her hands on either side of Glinda’s waist.

“I know,” she said, closing her eyes as Glinda’s fingers stroked her hair back. “And I’m terrified.”

“Me, too,” said Glinda, bringing their lips together.
