More Childe analysis for the gods of Childe analysis.
While I definitely headcanon the boy as a person with a PTSD, I think a lot of his traits that people in fandom interpret as signs of troubled personality are just an archaic system of values.
Honour and glory being more important than compassion, an open fight being more honourable than scheming, etc.
He was trained by a 500+yo fae being, it's only natural.
#childe#tartaglia#I like that while his story has a lot of space for fun psychological analysis it's not about trauma in its core#it's about the border between human and magical world#and humanity as a concept#also dreams and reality and growing up#and I'm starting to think he's a commentary on the concept of narrative itself#it's fun to interpret him as traumatised because it's fun to ponder how an abyssal horror would deal with human trauma#but trauma is not central to his story

You learned three things about Na Jaemin on your first day:
One, he was a clumsy dryad—somehow, someway, those existed, and you were now stuck as lead co-counselors with one for the next month.
Two, he went to your college as well, Magical Ecology major, and worked at Camp Pineleaf every summer between spring and fall semesters.
And three, he was a dangerously smooth, sweet-talking, flirt. You’d have to be careful around him, for your own sake.

WEEK ONE
It was way too fucking hot out. From the rough directions you were given by the camp director, you were pretty sure this path led out to the river. Fuck it, you might wade out a little while you were here in order to not overheat and die. No fucking way you were going to haunt this place forever in the event you became ghost.
Despite your pessimistic thoughts as you trudged along the forest trail, you were actually very excited. Today was the first day of your month-long stint as a counselor at Camp Pineleaf. You were an education major at the university in the city, and had been recommended to the gig by one of your professors. One interview with the camp director later, and you’d been hired on the spot. You were part of the set-up crew, responsible for getting to camp early to get the camp set up and welcome the kids when they arrived. The other half of the staff were riding over from the drop-off point with the campers. So here you were, walking the perimeter to make sure all of the off-season markers had been taken down.
The camp was a small part of a nature preserve, and the rangers designated the different areas to visitors by colored markers on trails and trees. When the camp was closed in the off-season, the river that it bordered was open to visitors, so the flag markers on that border would be blue. But now that the camp was open, the blue ones should’ve all been replaced with bright orange flags. You just had to keep an eye out for any remaining blue flags, or for anything else that could be awry.
You knew you were getting closer to the river when you could hear running water, and the air around you started feeling less heavy and a lot fresher. The trail under your feet turned sandy as you finally emerged from the trees onto a shoreline by the river.
You immediately froze, though, not expecting to see somebody else at the riverside. It was a man pulling himself up out of the river onto a rocky formation. He was shirtless, his biceps, shoulders, and all other sorts of muscles flexing along with his motions. His eyes were closed as he shook his wet hair out, then pushed the damp locks back from his face with both of his hands. The sunlight made him look like he was glowing, every drop of water that ran down his body sparkling like a jewel, and you couldn’t make yourself look away.
He looked like he’d been sculpted by the gods. Which you supposed he had, or one in particular at least, you realized, as his eyes opened and settled on you as if he’d known you were there the whole time. They were the color of ferns, but shifted to a lighter mossy green under the dappling of the sunlight. Dryad. Son of Pan. Or so the legends go.
“Hi?” Despite his voice pitching up to make the greeting sound like a question, the wide, cocky smile on his face told you that he definitely knew that you’d been stood there ogling him for an embarrassing amount of time.
“Sorry!” You cringed at the sound of your own voice. “I didn’t realize there was anybody out here.”
The dryad started picking his way down the rocks towards you carefully, grabbing something off one of them as he went. A neon yellow shirt. When he finally dropped onto the ground a few feet in front of you, he gave the shirt a twist to wring out a few drops of water.
“I’m Jaemin,” he said, gripping the shirt even tighter and giving it another twist for good measure. You pretended like you didn’t notice the veins in his hands or the way his forearms tautened with the motion. He shook out the shirt to show you the logo on the front of it, a smiling evergreen tree that matched yours. “I’m also a counselor at Camp Pineleaf this year. We must’ve gone to different training sessions, huh? Anyway, I was walking the perimeter before the kids got here and I kind of—”
Jaemin stopped, a sheepish sort of look coming to his face as he ducked his head almost in embarrassment.
You looked around in confusion. “You what?”
“I fell in the river.”
“You fell in?” You stared at him. You couldn’t tell if he was messing with you or not. What kind of dryad—
“I know, what kind of dryad is falling in rivers?” He pulled the shirt on over his head, which you could now see he had cut the sleeves off of. “Aren’t we supposed to be connected to nature and all that? I still don’t know how it happened, one second I was just climbing the rocks and surveying the river, next thing I knew, I was in the river. Then you showed up.”
Clumsy dryad. That was a new one.
“I’m Y/N.” Introducing yourself was only fair since he’d already given you his name. “Seems like we’re head counselors of the Swallowtails this year, Jaemin.”
It was then that he seemed to notice the matching colors of your shirts, and his features lit up in recognition. “Hey, looks like it!”
You checked your watch. “We should be getting back, the kids are going to be arriving soon.”
“Right!”
“Besides, if I have to stay out here any longer, I’m going to pass out from heat exhaustion.” You groaned, pulling the front of your shirt off from where it had stuck to your skin, using it to fan yourself. “And there’s no way I’m dying out here and risking getting my ghost stuck in the middle of nowhere for forever instead of somewhere cool.”
Jaemin suddenly had a look of alarm on his face, and you looked around with an eyebrow raised.
“What? Something I said?”
“No, sorry, thought I heard something,” he shook his head. “It was just a vole. Lead the way.”
You hadn’t heard anything other than the usual forest sounds, but chalked it up to superior magic hearing, and started back on the trail to the main camp.
“So, why did you come out here, Y/N?”
“Same as you, walking the perimeter.”
“And… I’m sorry, I don’t want to be rude, but what are you?”
You looked at him curiously. “Can’t you tell? I’m a human.”
He blinked as if shaken from a trance. Then he offered you another heart-stopping smile. “Right, of course. Sorry about that. Must’ve hit my head when I fell in the river.”
“Must’ve…”

You learned three things about Na Jaemin on that first day:
One, he was a clumsy dryad—somehow, someway, those existed, and you were now stuck as lead co-counselors with one for the next month.
Two, he went to your college as well, Magical Ecology major, and worked at Camp Pineleaf every summer between spring and fall semesters.
And three, he was a dangerously smooth, sweet-talking, flirt. You’d have to be careful around him, for your own sake.
That third one you didn’t come to understand until the after-bed bonfire that all the lead counselors were holding on the shore of the river. With all of the campers tucked in and being watched over by your high schooler junior counselors, the grown-ups were doing their own first day celebrations and icebreakers, which included one or two bottles being passed around as you got to know each other. A lot of the staff had been there for previous summers like Jaemin, but there were a few newbies like you.
It had been someone’s bright idea—Yeeun, a fairy, one of the lead counselors of the Bluejays—to do Truth or Dare to loosen everybody up, instead of like, just some more campfire songs or something. The guitar was forgotten by Jaemin’s feet in favor of this game, and you had survived your first couple rounds just on Truth—it wasn’t really your prerogative to embarrass yourself in front of your new coworkers on your first day.
It had just been Chanyeol’s turn (the Assistant Director, mind you, was even participating), and the werewolf let out a long, low burp as he held the bottle out for somebody to take. His truth had to been to admit why some counselor from last year had gotten fired—it apparently was the hottest piece of camp gossip last summer that nobody could figure out until now (it turns out the guy was drinking on the job, which you didn’t miss the irony in right now).
Jaemin took the bottle from him happily, tipping back his head to take a sip.
“You only have to drink if you don’t do your turn, Jaemin. Remember?” You nudged him with your left knee. He was not going to be a very helpful co-counselor tomorrow if he was hungover and miserable.
“I know,” he grinned.
“Alright, Jaemin, Tr—”
“Dare!” He declared, cutting off Chanyeol as the werewolf went to ask him the routine question.
Your coworkers all rubbed their chins thoughtfully. Yeri suddenly let out a dramatic gasp, as if she’d just been struck by the best idea ever.
“I dare you to pass the bottle to the prettiest girl in the circle,” she declared smugly.
“That’s it?” Jaemin arched a brow.
“She’s so wasted,” Sooyoung scoffed under her breath, but nonetheless, the siren brushed some stray hair and rose petals out of the dryad's face as she teetered in place.
“What? You want something more racy?” Chanyeol snickered. “Unfortunately, I am still kind of your boss, and while I will sanction this, I draw the line at daring anybody to do anything sexually promiscuous, alright?”
“I don’t mean like that, necessarily,” the dryad shrugged. “But it’s a bit tame, doesn’t tell you much. Why not the person that I want to kiss the most? Or, that I want to—”
“Jaemin.”
“Alright, alright,” he sighed dramatically, holding up the bottle straight out with one arm and drawing back his other to aim it around the circle like a bow and arrow.
“You better not hand me that nasty fucking thing, Na Jaemin,” Yeeun practically growled, crossing her arms over her chest.
“In your wildest dreams,” he scoffed, jutting his arm to the right at last. You turned your head that way, trying to figure out who he was handing it to. You were at the end of this log bench, and the next person in that direction was Eunseok, a gryphon and newbie like you.
“Y/N,” Jaemin pushed the bottle against your knee.
You took it and whispered, “Right, and who am I handing this to?”
“Nobody, gorgeous,” he whispered back, shooting you a wink.
Your hands were suddenly sweaty where they were wrapped around the neck of the bottle, and you could feel everybody’s eyes on you. With your gaze fixated on your lap, you coughed out a, “Oh, okay.”
“Alright, Y/N!” Chanyeol announced dramatically over the titters that had erupted around the fire. “Truth or dare?”
You took a swig of the drink to steel your nerves, trying not to think about how Jaemin’s mouth had just been on the same bottleand everybody else’s, but that didn’t really matter to you as much in the moment. “Truth.”
Jaemin leaned in towards you, and you were suddenly wrapped in the contrasting smells of pine and roses as he dropped his voice, his mouth hovering right by your ear. “Are you—”
The sound of footsteps running up towards the campfire distracted you from whatever Jaemin was about to ask, and you whipped around to see Ningning, your junior counselor, heading right for you.
“Y/N!” She skidded to a stop on the other side of your log, clearly out of breath from the run down from the cabins to the riverbank.
“Ningning, is everything alright?” You asked the breathless witch.
“They’re crying and asking for their parents. I tried to—I can’t calm them down. I’m sorry, can you please—”
“Yeah, of course.” You put the bottle down in the sand, standing up and gesturing for the girl to lead the way back.

“You look exhausted,” Jaemin declared, setting a cup of coffee down in front of you at the dining hall the next morning.
“I am,” you sighed, rubbing the back of the little witch girl who had finally cried herself to sleep an hour before wake-up this morning. She was still passed out on your lap, and you wished you could be that dead to the world too. “Finally got this one asleep about an hour before wake-up.”
“Oof, an all-nighter,” he nodded sympathetically. “Wanted Mommy and Daddy?”
“First time outside her coven.” You took a sip of the coffee, delighted to find that he had somehow already made it to your exact preferences. “Two creams and three sugars…? How did you know?”
The dryad shrugged, “Something sweet for someone sweet, right?”
“How do you know I’m sweet?” You narrowed your eyes at him suspiciously. “I could be the biggest ass— jerk you’ve ever met.” You winced at yourself nearly forgetting the child in your lap.
“Something tells me you’re not the biggest assjerk I’ve ever met,” he snickered quietly. “You’re up against stiff competition in that department, anyway.”
“What sort of people have you met, Jaemin?”
“Curious about me, beautiful?”
“I think I’m allowed some natural curiosity about my co-lead counselor, yes.”
“Ouch, I’ve been co-lead counselor-zoned.”
“What other sort of zone were you hoping to be in?” You snorted, taking another long sip of your coffee, not expecting an actual answer to that.
“I think you have a pretty good idea, gorgeous,” he grinned. “Anyway, I’ll fix you a plate for breakfast so you don’t have to disturb your little friend.”
“Wait,” you stopped him as he went to walk away, craning your neck to try to see the buffet line. “What do they have?”
“I think I know what to get you,” he declared confidently.
Jaemin did in fact come back with all of your favorite breakfast foods loaded up on a plate, which only made you even more suspicious as you dug in. All your other campers and junior counselors were sitting at the table with you two, though, so you couldn’t interrogate him about it.

This morning, the Swallowtails were going on a nature walk, and you were more than happy to let Jaemin and his junior counselor, another dryad named Sohee, take the lead on that.
It was cool enough in the morning shade that you didn’t feel the need to throw yourself in the river this time. Ningning stayed in the middle of the group with some of the girls, and you brought up the rear, holding hands with your new best friend, Soongie. The little girl that you had consoled all night had not left your side since, nor said a word, which was honestly fine by you.
Jaemin had stopped everybody to explain something about the importance of all of nature working together, and how even all of you in this group were part of nature too—a fine message, by all means—but a little chittering in the treetops above you caught your attention, and you looked up to see some kind of light reddish-brown critter running across tree branches. Another ran after it, and you were pretty sure those weren’t squirrels, but you swear you hadn’t ever seen anything like it.
“In addition to those birds we had seen earlier, you’ll also see a lot of animals like squirrels and frogs up in the trees too.” Jaemin had apparently gone back to lecturing about the wildlife again while you were distracted. “There’s actually something special about this park, does anybody know what it is?”
Sohee raised his hand, which made you and the kids giggle as Jaemin looked at him disapprovingly.
“Not you, Sohee.” Your co-counselor shook his head. “Anybody else?”
Everybody looked around at each other, shaking their heads and giving various ‘no’s in response.
“There is actually a species of chipmunk that can only be found in this park. It likes the area around the river the most, and you’ll know you’ve seen it because it has reddish fur, and white front paws.”
You tilted your head back up at the trees, squinting your eyes as the creatures ran back out again, then paused overhead. And you swore you saw white paws.
“I think Y/N has already spotted some!” Jaemin announced, startling you.
As the kids all started crowding around you and clambering to try to get a good look at the animals, while you were looking dead at the older dryad, wondering how he knew exactly what you were looking at. He easily met your gaze, tilting his head and smiling.

After lunch, your team was in the arts and crafts cabin. There were multiple stations of different crafts set up, and you were helping Soongie with the friendship bracelets and necklaces. You hummed to yourself as you carefully selected your beads, arranging and rearranging them on table in front of you.
Soongie tugged on your sleeve, and you looked at her attentively. She held her nearly finished bracelet up, tapping the two ends together indicatively.
“Do you need it tied together?” You questioned.
She nodded.
You gingerly took the bracelet from her, tying it up and handing it back. “There you go, Soongie.”
The little witch grabbed your arm, and you let her pull the bracelet onto your wrist with only minor difficulties. She patted your hand, seeming satisfied with herself.
“Oh, is it for me?” You asked, wanting to clarify in case she only wanted you to model it or test the size for an adult back home.
She nodded again, turning back to start picking out more beads.
“Thank you,” you beamed, patting her head appreciatively.
“Miss Y/N, can you help me tie this please?” Another camper requested from further down the table.
“Of course.” You set your materials down, standing up to walk around to where he was sitting. “Here, I’ll do it with you so you can practice.”
Guiding his hands through tying the knot on his elastic string, the two of you finally got it. You gave it one last tug to make sure it was secure, then he put his bracelet on.
“Thank you!” He chirped, jumping up from his seat. “I’m gonna show Mister Jaemin!”
He darted off across the cabin to the craft table that your co-counselor was at, and you took the opportunity to walk around your table and check on the campers while you were already up. Continuing to hum quietly to yourself, you whipped around with alarm when you heard Jaemin start singing. Not just because he was singing, his voice was perfectly pleasant, a lovely tenor, actually. But because he was singing the same song that you had been humming, joining in exactly where you were. You were not loud enough for anybody at even the next table over to have heard you, much less him on the other side of the noisy cabin. Dryads didn’t have exceptionally acute hearing like some other creatures such as vampires, they were only attuned to the sounds of nature, e.g., the vole he had apparently heard by the river yesterday.
Jaemin was showing the camper you had just assisted the accompanying dance to the song. It was a song that you had learned when you were a kid at your own summer camp, which was why it had come to your mind now. A few other campers abandoned their crafts to join Jaemin in learning the dance, immensely focused.
The dryad’s eyes shifted from monitoring their footwork to you. He stopped singing to call out to you, “Do you know this one, Y/N?”
You swallowed to wet your parched throat before answering. “Y-Yeah, I learned it at camp when I was a kid.”
“Remember the dance?” He asked with a grin.
“I mean, I don’t know, it’s been so long…” As you hesitated, a chorus of insistent cries erupted around you from the campers, begging you to join in. “Okay, okay, I’ll see what I can remember.”
You walked over to the open space that Jaemin and the kids had gathered in, followed by cheers.
“From the top?” Jaemin suggested, a twinkle in his green eyes.

The next day, Jaemin sidled up to you in the buffet line at dinner. “Hey.”
“Hey.” You glanced at him out of the corner of your eye, helping Soongie on your other side, who couldn’t quite reach some of the food options.
“I’d skip the gravy surprise if I were you.”
“I was about to tell you that,” you quipped back, depositing a heaping serving of smiley fries onto Soongie’s tray, then yours. “It looks alive and artificial at the same time somehow.”
“A modern miracle, truly.”
The both of you snickered as the line moved up. Jaemin loaded up his own helping of fries. Soongie pointed enthusiastically at the honeydew melon, and you scooped that out for her too.
“I wanted to ask…” Jaemin leaned in to murmur by your ear, making the hair on the back of your neck stand up. You didn’t flinch away though, intrigued by whatever he felt the need to whisper to you in the loud mess hall. He continued in his low voice, “Will you meet me tonight? Thirty minutes after lights out?”
You inhaled, which was a mistake as you sucked down the smell of pine and roses, and the line scooted up while you were still frozen. Quickly, you nodded and choked out a quiet ‘okay’ before catching up with Soongie. Jaemin smoothly followed after you, engaging one of the counselors across the buffet from you in light-hearted conversation.

After lights-out, you laid awake, staring up at the ceiling of the cabin, listening to the hushed whispers of the girls fade into soft breathing and the occasional snore. You checked the time on your watch every two minutes, and it was only when you had five minutes left until your promised time to meet Jaemin that you realized he hadn’t told you where to meet him, and you’d been far too flustered to ask. You didn’t want to cluelessly wander the campground after dark, not only for fear of being caught by administration, but also because you didn’t know what was out at night. You were here because you were an education major, not because you were exactly a hardcore nature enthusiast.
Finally, with just a minute to go, you peeled your covers off as silently as possible, slipping your hiking boots back on. Lord knows what Jaemin had in mind. Your bed was by the entrance anyway as a safety precaution, so it was easy to get to the front door and slip out. You took your phone and the cabin pass with you from next to the door, just in case. Your phone, so that people could still get in contact with you, and the cabin pass so if Ningning woke up in the middle night and saw you were gone, she would think you were using the bathroom or something.
Outside your cabin, you didn’t immediately see Jaemin. You decided that if you didn’t find him in five minutes, you’d head back. Whatever this was, was not worth losing your job, or your girls’ safety, or yours, for that matter. You’d hardly turned away from the girls’ cabins towards the center of camp when you saw him strolling down the walkways from the direction of the boys’ cabins. Speak of the dryad.
Halting your search, you waited for him to approach you instead. He was wearing what looked to be his pajamas as well, sweatpants and a tank top, and his slides smacked against his heels with every step.
Jaemin stopped in front of you, not bothering to hide that he was eyeing you from head to toe. He had that same easy-going smile as always as he assessed, “Hiking boots and pjs. Cute.”
You suddenly felt too exposed in your sleep shorts. “Oh, shut it.”
“I meant it. You’re cute.” He was leaning down to peer at your shirt closely now. “It’s dark, I can’t see—Who’s on your shirt?”
“My eyes are up here, you know,” you jested, crossing your arms.
“Ooh, a bit hypocritical, hm?”
“I was startled—”
“Yeah, when I’m startled, I also make a cartoon ‘awooga’ sound—”
“Oh shut—!” You smacked his arm, not intending for the sound to echo so loudly in the quiet area. Your heart leapt to your throat, and you rushed to cover your mouth with two hands, hushing your gasp.
Jaemin, meanwhile, was grabbing the area you’d hit while he keeled over, his whole body shaking with silent laughter.
When administration hadn’t come swooping in after a few beats, you shook your head at the still-laughing figure of Na Jaemin. Pivoting around on your heel, you had the full intention of heading back to your cabin. Just a step away, and his hand shot out to grab yours. It was a light grip, you could shake him off and leave if you wanted, but you stopped anyway.
Still with your back turned, you waited for him to catch his breath and say something.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he said, still with a hint of a smirk in his voice. “Can I still show you something?”
Unfortunately, your interest was piqued. You turned around, narrowing your eyes at him—he was smirking. “Show me what?”

Whatever Jaemin wanted to show you, it was deep in the forest, on a trail that was closed off from camp. Now you were glad that you’d worn your hiking boots, despite his earlier teases. The trail clearly hadn’t been used in a few years, overgrown with plants so it only fit one person across. You kept your eyes on your feet, you didn’t want to risk tripping and injuring yourself and having to make up some story about how you sprained your ankle using the bathroom in the middle of the night. Embarrassing.
“Are you going to kill me?” You asked plainly.
Jaemin looked at you over his shoulder, teasing glint in his eye. “I’m a dryad, not a siren, Y/N.”
“We’re also not by water, so I didn’t think you were going to drown me,” you snorted.
“We’re almost there,” he said simply. “I think.”
“Do you know where we’re going?”
“Of course I do, I’m a dryad—”
“Thank you for reminding me, I almost forgot in the last twenty seconds.”
“—therefore, I have an intuitive connection to nature, okay? So I know it’s going to be right through these trees.”
You gave him a doubtful look, but stayed silent. He gestured ahead, and you watched as leaves and branches seemingly parted on their own, welcoming you through. You followed Jaemin under the passage that he’d made, the foliage closing up again behind you. You’d entered into a clearing illuminated by nothing but the stars. It was a new moon, but you found that you didn’t really need its light, as the stars shone brilliantly on a night this clear. The clearing was carpeted with soft clover and patches of wildflowers of all shapes and sizes.
“This used to be the archery range, when I was a camper,” Jaemin explained. “They moved it as the camp got bigger.”
“You came here when you were a kid?”
“Yep.” He picked a spot and sat down. “Chanyeol used to be junior counselor of my cabin.”
You smiled faintly as you sat in front of him. “Really?”
“Mhm.” He started picking clovers from the bottom of the stem, close to the ground. “You ever made a clover crown?”
“No.”
“I’ll show you how.”
As he walked you through the steps of weaving together a clover crown, you tried your best to follow along, but yours still ended up a weedy mess, falling apart in your hands. You sighed, letting the greenery drop through your fingers and back to the dirt.
“Here, use mine,” Jaemin offered patiently. “Sometimes starting is the hardest part.”
“No, Jaemin, it’s so pretty, I don’t want to mess it up,” you insisted.
“I’ve probably made thousands of clover crowns,” he reassured you, moving around to lower his hands over yours. “It’s fine. Go ahead.”
You let out a deep breath, taking the partially-woven clovers from him. Jaemin stayed there just to guide you through the first few uncertain crossings of stems, then he sat down again next to you, gathering more materials to start another crown.
Keeping your eyes trained on your shaky fingers, you said, “I don’t get you, Na Jaemin.”
“Well you hardly know me,” he pointed out humorously. “But I feel like I’ve been straightforward with you. Is there anything specific you think is so mysterious about me?”
“That’s the problem.” You bit your cheek and paused as you focused on the clover crown for a second. Then, you continued, “You’re so upfront I feel like you’re hiding something. Like I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
“What? Because I’m being honest, that must mean I’m dishonest?”
“Yes, because people don’t just act like this, Jaemin!”
“Like what? Like they’re actually interested in somebody they want to know better?” He asked incredulously, eyes wide. “This can’t just be a human thing—Are you like, okay, Y/N?”
You felt tears welling up at the corner of your eyes, and once again dropped the clover crown to wipe at them. “Fuck—I guess not. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” he said softly. “I’m sorry too. We’re barely more than strangers, I let myself get caught up and I was pushy. I’ll take you back.”
The dryad stood up and offered you two hands to get up. Hanging from one of his elbows, you saw a completed clover crown. Curious, you pointed to it. “Can I see…?”
Jaemin obliged, shaking it from his elbow to his hand and offering it out to you. Still sitting in the same spot, you turned the crown around, admiring his delicate handiwork. It was more intricate than the version he had been showing you how to make, wildflowers woven together to make hearts or stars and then integrated into the design, and he’d finished it so quickly too.
You held the crown out for him to take back. “I still haven’t made a clover crown… If you want to stay.”
He brightened up. “Third time’s the charm.”

When your alarm woke you up in the morning, you were at least more well-rested than the first night, but not by much. Groaning and sitting up, you rubbed your eyes before opening them, eyes blearily trained on the floor. The first thing you saw was your hiking boots, your completed clover crown resting atop them. It ended up taking four tries for you to finally finish one, and it was messy and at risk of falling apart any second, but you were proud of it nevertheless. A fond smile tugged at the corner of your mouth as you remembered when you had finally closed it off per Jaemin’s instructions, and smacked his arm with excitement, too afraid of even breathing. Instead of being offended at you hitting him again, he was as elated as you, somehow finding a million things to compliment about your ugly little clover crown.

WEEK 2
After your cabin’s wake-up routine this morning, you were back in the cafeteria. You didn’t bother looking for Jaemin, feeling pretty confident that the dryad would find you on his own. Sure enough, just a few minutes after you and Soongie had sat down, your co-counselor was standing at the end of your table, gesturing to the empty seat across from you.
“May I?” He asked.
“All yours,” you replied, cutting up Soongie’s pancake for her.
“We’re doing canoeing with the Bluejays this morning,” Jaemin reviewed your itinerary for the day.
A small hand grabbed your arm, and you looked over to see your little witch practically vibrating in her seat.
“Soongie’s excited,” you chuckled. “And then it’s free swim until lunch.”
“Uh-huh,” he hummed, finger following the schedule on his clipboard. “Then it’s us and the Barn Owls for free time until two-thirty. Then we’re going to archery also with the Barn Owls and the Tree Frogs, and tie dye before dinner. Oh, and a campfire after dinner tonight.”
“Will—”
“There will be s’mores at the campfire,” he said knowingly.
You smiled. “Took the words right out of my mouth.”

“You know, Soongie, you could help a little bit, sweet,” you chastised the girl fondly, being the only one actually paddling between the two of you.
The camper was sat ahead of you in your canoe, her paddle long forgotten on the floor as she looked around her in delighted wonder. You were far too endeared by her to really be upset, which she obviously knew, as she did nothing to assist. There was a small splish on the surface of the water to the left of the canoe, and Soongie gasped, immediately scooting to that side of her seat.
“Woah!” You grabbed the sides as the small canoe rocked with the shift in weight. “Careful, Soongie. I know you’re not very big, but remember what Miss Yujin said, we don’t want to—”
As you were talking, the little witch had been leaning further and further over the side of the canoe to try to get a better look at whatever had caught her attention before. Right as you had grabbed the back of her life jacket with the intention of scooting her back into the middle of her seat yourself, the canoe flipped entirely, sending the both of you into the water. You two popped up immediately thanks to your life jackets, underneath the shell of the overturned canoe.
Turning the girl around in your arms, you checked on her, “Are you okay, Soongie?”
She regarded you with wide, terrified eyes as she nodded hurriedly.
“Good, good. I’m not mad, sweet,” you reassured her, hugging her close. “It’s okay, now we know not to do that next time, right?”
She nodded again, slower this time.
Pulling away, you asked again, “Are you sure you’re okay? You didn’t get hit by the canoe or anything?”
Another nod, more certain.
“Good, alright.” You let out a deep breath, looking around at the canoe over your heads. “Now, I need you to—”
A loud knocking on the outside of the canoe cut you off, and you let out a scream in surprise. The next second, a third person had joined you two under the canoe, surfacing behind you.
“Are you okay?” Jaemin asked, wiping water out of his eyes.
“Other than the heart attack you just gave me and the canoe on top of us?” You scoffed. “Yeah, peachy, Jaemin.”
“You weren’t coming up, I was getting worried,” he frowned.
“We’re okay,” you said more sincerely this time. “Promise.”
“Okay, good.” He then pointed to his right. “You and Soongie go out and swim over there. I’ll flip the canoe back over the other way for you. Swim a good distance away, just in case.”
“Alright, thanks, Jaemin,” you smiled, patting his cheek fondly. Turning back to Soongie, you said, “I need you to close your eyes and hold your breath while we go underwater so we can get out. Can you do that for me, sweet?”
She squeezed her eyes shut, breathed in deep, and plugged her nose.
“I knew you could. Let’s go.” You grabbed her by the head, pushing her under at the same time you went down too. You kept your hand on top of her head both to keep her down against the buoyancy of her life vest and to act as a bumper in case she accidentally bonked the canoe on her way out.
Once you had surfaced, you pulled her with you as you paddled away from the canoe a fair distance. Scattered in the water around you were the oars and your shoes. You knew your sunglasses were long gone, lost to the bottom of the lake. A few seconds later, you saw one of Jaemin’s hands wrap around the edge of the canoe, then he slowly lifted the side facing you, breaking the seal with the water, before he heaved the canoe to his left, successfully flipping it rightside up. You heard distant cheers and applause from the dock, and looked over to see other campers standing there, bundled up in their own little life vests.
Swimming back over to Jaemin and the canoe with Soongie, you two also gave him a small round of applause above the surface of the water.
“Our hero,” you jested.
He grinned, holding onto the end of the canoe to keep it from floating away. “Well…”
“Y/N in first, that way you can help Soongie get in,” he explained.
“Okay, you wait here with Mister Jaemin for me,” you requested, passing her off to the dryad.
“Can you hold onto my shoulders Soongie?” He moved her around to his back, then made an exaggerated choking sound. “My shoulders, not my neck!”
Soongie giggled and changed the placement of her arms.
“Oh, thank Pan,” he breathed out in relief. “Alright, Y/N, up you go.”
You hauled yourself back into the canoe, then worked with Jaemin to hoist Soongie in as well. Finally, Jaemin pulled himself in too, shaking out his wet hair like a dog.
“Ah!” He sighed, pushing his hair back from his face, annoyingly handsome grin once again landing on you. “Well that was a successful rescue mission, huh?”
“Hate to burst your bubble, Jaemin, but uh, we don’t—”
“Have oars?” He finished your sentence, still grinning.
“Mhm.” You looked down into your empty, soaking wet canoe, then at the distant dock pointedly.
“Not a problem!” A vine shot out of Jaemin’s palm, splitting into two, each end grabbing a wayward oar and pulling them back up into the boat. He offered one out to you to take, and secured the other in his hand.
Soongie giggled and clapped, to which Jaemin bowed. “Ah, thank you, thank you.”

After free swim and free time, everyone had time to head back to their cabins and shower before going to archery. You only had a second to rinse the lake water off of you before changing and corralling your campers to archery.
The new archery range was bigger than the old one that Jaemin had taken you to, able to fit more targets than you were sure the other one could. As the two instructors began teaching the kids, the counselors hung back to make sure everyone was paying attention and served more as support during the lesson. God knew you had no clue how to shoot a bow and arrow.
“You know how to do this?” You murmured to Jaemin as you watched the instructor notch her first arrow.
“May have won a few ribbons back in my days as a camper,” he jokingly bragged. “Want a private lesson?”
You elbowed him lightly and shook your head, even as your heart skipped a beat. The instructor let her arrow fly then, easily hitting the bullseye. You clapped along with the campers, snickering, “I think maybe I should ask her instead.”

Whoever put tie-dye after free time was the bane of your existence, as there was no time for the girls to properly wash up before dinner. If tie-dye had been before free time, then they could’ve done it before showering. You and Ningning had your hands full helping them scrub dye off their hands, and your entire cabin ended up being late to dinner. Stomping into the mess hall with a gaggle of starving girls, you hurried them ahead of you towards the food line, wincing when you saw a few options empty or nearly empty already. Soongie hung back with you as always, joining you last in the line.
You made your two plates, and struggled to find empty seats in the packed mess hall. Thankfully, a hand shot up among the throng, waving you all over. Jaemin stood up so you could see him better, and you called for your girls, who were all looking around rather lost, to follow you over there. The dryad was instructing his campers to scoot around and make room, and finally, with some squeezing, everyone was able to fit. Jaemin let you scoot onto the bench seat ahead of him, and you still had to eat with Soongie on your lap and one of Jaemin’s legs sticking out into the aisle. His other leg was pressed against you, elbow bumping into yours as the two of you ate.
You tried not to glare at some of the other cabins who had made no attempts to accommodate you all, empty seats and plenty of room at their tables, some of the adults even propping up and spreading their legs out on the benches as they ate and chatted with each other.
“Just leave it, Y/N,” Jaemin murmured, nudging you with his arm. “Good example.”
You took a deep breath and nodded. “Yeah, thanks, Jaem.”
“Hard time washing out the tie dye?”
“Yeah. How’d you guys clean the dye off so fast?”
“Who says we cleaned the dye off?”
That made you look up from your food for the first time, carefully studying the hands and arms of the boy Swallowtail campers around you, seeing that they were in fact, splotched with every color of the rainbow. You burst into laughter, covering your face with your hand. “God—Is that going to come out before pick-up?”
“Yeah, a couple more dips in the lake, it’ll all be gone.”
“Work smarter, not harder, huh?”
Jaemin grinned. “Exactly.”

At the campfire, you helped your younger campers roast their marshmallows for their s’mores safely, while Jaemin and Chanyeol led the entire camp in sing-alongs. In a lull with your campers preoccupied with eating their s’mores, you quickly prepared one and brought it up towards the front. Chanyeol was tuning his guitar while he and Jaemin discussed which song to do next, and you tapped the dryad’s shoulder as you lowered the paper plate into his line of sight.
Jaemin looked up at you beaming, accepting the s’more. “Thanks, beautiful. How’d you know I wanted one?”
“I’m a mind reader,” you replied humorously, mussing up his hair before you headed back towards the Swallowtails’ benches.
“Ask her! Ask her!” Came excited, hushed whispers from behind you as you had just returned to your seat among all your campers.
Turning around, you spotted a gaggle of both girls and boys gathered behind you, and raised your eyebrow at them inquisitively. “Ask me what?”
“Miss Y/N?” One brave girl finally piped up. “Are you and Mister Jaemin boyfriend-girlfriend?”
You covered your mouth to not laugh directly at them, instead tilting your head at them curiously. “Why do you think that?”
“You just made him a s’more!” One said.
“And he rescued you and Soongie today!” Another added.
“And he always calls you beautiful and stuff!” Said another. “That’s what my dad calls my mom.”
“You can tell your friends that they’re beautiful,” you informed them dutifully. “I tell you girls that you’re beautiful, don’t I?”
They all looked at each other, obviously conflicted.
“You should always help somebody in need if you can, like Mister Jaemin did today when Soongie and I were canoeing,” you continued. “And how many s’mores have I made for all of you?”
They began murmuring among themselves at your very good points while you tried very hard to control your face. Technically, you and Jaemin weren’t boyfriend-girlfriend. You were… something. And these children didn’t need to know all the (sparse) details of the nature of your relationship with Jaemin anyway.
Chanyeol had started strumming his guitar again, drawing everyone’s attention as the next song began.

WEEK 3
All outdoor activities had been canceled today because a huge storm had rolled in overnight. Rain pounded against the roof of the meeting center as lighting flashed and thunder boomed outside. The Swallowtails and Tree Frogs were in here for the first block of the day watching movies on a projector. The movie was occupying some of the kids while others quietly played cards in a corner, others napped, and the counselors hung out in the back of the room.
“You okay, Jaem?” You asked the dryad, bumping his shoulder with yours. “You’ve been… off since breakfast this morning.”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he reassured you, shifting his gaze from the dark grey skies outside over to you. His eyes were a deep forest green, so murky they almost blended in with his pupils. He tried to offer you a half-smile as he nudged your arm back. “It’s the weather. Dryads are sensitive to it. Mother Nature gets bummed out, so do we.”
You looked over at Sohee, noticing that the younger dryad was also less upbeat than usual, leaning against the wall and zoning out as he listened to the junior counselor from the Tree Frogs go on about something.
“I like the rain,” you tried to offer some positivity. “Good napping weather.”
Jaemin chuckled. “I’ve never been able to sleep well when the weather’s like this, but now that you mention it…”
“Big fuzzy blanket or two, the sound of the rain, oh it’s perfect.”
“Mm, I might be able to get on board with this.”
“I’m just afraid the kids aren’t going to be able to sleep tonight if they can’t get their energy out,” you sighed, already able to picture them bouncing off the walls come lights-out.
“Yeah, we’ll have to make them run laps in the gym after lunch so they’re not bouncing off the walls when it’s lights-out.”
“Exactly what I was thinking.”
“Speaking of lights-out…” He leaned in closer, resting his hand behind you and letting the smell of pine and roses entirely wrap around you. His lips ghosted against the shell of your ear as he requested, “If the rain lets up by then, will you meet me again? After lights-out?”
You turned your head to whisper back, “To do what?”
“It’s a surprise. Is that a yes?”
You hummed, pretending to think it over. Finally, you answered, “Yes.”

In the middle of dinner, the rain finally stopped, and you pretended not to react, even as the entire cafeteria erupted into cheers. Jaemin tapped your foot under the table with his. You kicked his back as you lifted your smiley fry to your mouth.
After putting your girls to bed, you once again waited thirty minutes before putting your hiking boots on and slipping out of your cabin. Jaemin was exactly where you had found him last time, blinding grin visible even this late at night. He had a couple towels tossed over his shoulder, but was otherwise in the exact same clothes as last time.
“So where are we headed?” You asked, looping your arm with his.
“Somewhere special,” he replied vaguely. “The rain should’ve made it perfect.”
You squinted at him, but didn’t press for more information. As soon as he turned off the main path, you realized he was heading towards the river but taking an unfamiliar route along it. He was heading towards a part that the camp didn’t use in their regular activities. You heard the rushing water before you spotted it, and when you emerged from the treeline, you could see a waterfall. Not huge, but without the extra rainfall from today, this area probably wouldn’t have been more than a trickle.
“Perfect,” Jaemin declared, stopping by a rock further from the water’s edge. This one was dry, safe from the spray of the waterfall. He set the towels down before toeing his shoes off, and you already knew what he was going to do.
“Isn’t it going to be cold?” You asked knowingly, despite taking your boots off too.
“Probably.” He pulled his tank top off before hooking his thumbs in the waistband of his sweatpants. “You’re behind.”
“You’re pushy,” you teased back, yanking off your socks.
“Undress how you want, my apologies.” He put his palms together and bowed ninety degrees, making you giggle at the juxtaposition of the formal gesture while he was in nothing except his briefs.
Your shorts joined the pile too, but you left your sleep shirt on since you had nothing else on under it. Jaemin was already at the river’s edge, his back to you as he stood in the water up to his ankles.
“Is it cold?” You slowly picked your way closer to the water.
“Would you believe me if I said no?” He answered with a question.
“Try.”
“It’s like a hot tub.”
You clicked your tongue, “Nope, didn’t believe you for a second.”
“Can I look?” He still hadn’t turned around, even as you were just a couple steps behind him.
“No, Jaem, I want you to swim with your eyes closed all night.”
“I’d do it if you asked,” he jested back in a slightly sing-songy voice.
“I know you would.” You hugged your arms as you shook your head fondly. “You can turn around. With your eyes open.”
Jaemin turned around with his eyes squeezed shut first, then squinted them open one at a time, a soft grin spreading across his lips as his gaze didn’t trail anywhere other than your face. He offered his hand out, and you set yours atop it. Slowly, he pulled you towards him, and you braced yourself as you took the first step into the cold water. You let out an instinctive shiver at the chill zipping up through you.
“Hot tub, yeah,” you scoffed.
“It slopes down from here.” Jaemin started wading out in front of you, keeping his loose grip on your hand. You followed him, keeping an eye on how fast the water was rising up his legs to estimate the depth for yourself.
When the water was about waist-deep, you hissed at the temperature, squeezing his hand tighter. His thumb rubbed the back of your hand as he started guiding you towards the waterfall. “Come on.”
In the back of your mind, you wondered if you were going to get sick from this.
“If you catch a cold, I’ll nurse you back to health.”
“If you get sick, I’ll laugh,” you mimicked the way he cooed at you sweetly.
Jaemin stopped the two of you a little ways away from the bottom of the waterfall. He let go of your hand before walking forward, pausing right under where the water was pouring down, thoroughly drenching him. He let out a whoop presumably at the burst of cold. Poking his head out, he wiped the water from his eyes and looked at you expectantly. You sighed but went to join him, grabbing your shoulders tightly and gritting your teeth against the rush of cold water soaking the rest of you. A mix between a yelp and a laugh escaped you instinctively, and you heard Jaemin laughing past the sounds of crashing water. Admittedly, the chill served as a shock to your nervous system, thoroughly waking you up and making every inch of your skin tingle.
You ducked out of the waterfall, under the overhang of rock, wiping water off your face as you giggled. “Ah! Cold! Fucking cold!”
“It’s refreshing, right?” Jaemin asked with a grin.
“Kinda, yeah,” you admitted, putting your shoulders back under the waterfall. You held your arms out. “C’mere.”
He obliged, shuffling closer to you and letting you wrap your arms around his neck. As soon as you felt how warm his skin was, you pulled him even closer.
“You’re warm!” You gasped.
“I’m a dryad, gorgeous,” he hummed, lowering the two of you in the water. His hands landed on your knees, encouraging you to wrap your legs around his waist and cling onto him even more. “Always the perfect temperature.”
“You’re really proud to be a dryad, hm?” You questioned, not a hint of sarcasm or taunting in your voice this time.
“Of course. I love everything about it, never wanted to be anything else. Sure, other things are more powerful, and plenty of dryads hate being sensitive to the weather, but I love it all.”
“Can you understand animals?” You knew that not all dryads could talk to animals, and those who could, would usually only be able to talk to a certain kind (birds, fish, reptiles, etc.).
“Small to medium land mammals. Anything bigger than a dog is usually a no-go.”
“What about a really big dog? Like a Great Dane? Or a Newfoundland?”
“Haven’t tried. When I do, I’ll let you know.”
“Do you have a favorite animal? Or is that like picking a favorite kid?”
He chuckled, and you could feel it against you. “I like cats.”
“Me too.”
After a beat, he asked, “Can I tell you something?”
“Can I stop you?”
“The first day of camp—”
“—when you fell in the river—”
“—when I fell in the river… I didn’t really fall in.”
You pulled back to be able to look him in the eye, nose scrunching up in confusion. “What? So you just… went swimming in your clothes for fun?”
“Yeah, pretty much. I was walking the perimeter, like I told you, and then suddenly I got this really strong urge to just jump in,” he explained. “One second, I was perfectly fine, enjoying the Sun, and then I thought to myself: ‘It’s too goddamn hot and if I overheat and die there is no way I’m going to let myself end up haunting this place for eternity.’ And the river was right there so I jumped in and cooled off. And then when you showed up, I figured it was better to look clumsy than like… well whatever that was.”
Dread had settled deep in the pit of your stomach, and your jaw dropped with mortification. “Jaemin, I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“I’m the one who made you jump in the river,” you confessed, pushing on his chest to get him to let you go and stand on your own again.
“What?” He tilted his head, obviously confused and caught between trying to decide if you were joking or serious, half a smile on his lips.
You turned away from him, covering your face in horror as everything suddenly dawned on you at once—way too late, you should’ve fucking known, it was so fucking obvious. “Not on purpose. God—”
Jaemin was surprisingly calm as he asked, “What are you talking about?”
“You know how we’re like… scarily in sync sometimes? Like it’s almost like you can read my thoughts?”
He grinned and chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest. “So you noticed, too? I mean—”
“It’s not great chemistry or anything. I’m literally accidentally putting my thoughts in your head,” you interrupted him, desperately trying to get across how seriously bad this whole thing was.
The cocky smirk dropped right off his face, and he turned curious and skeptical instead. “Wait, really? How?”
“My great-aunt called it something one time. A savvy,” you snapped your fingers as the word popped into your head. “Said that’s what they used to be called before all this modern-day science took over magic instead.”
“Savvy,” he repeated uncertainly.
“Yeah. Humans that could talk to plants and make them grow faster like dryads, or fly but just a couple inches off the ground, things like that,” you listed off a couple examples. “Her theory was that with integration, people didn’t find their savvies anymore because they were around all this extraordinary magic, there was no reason for their little pockets of it to ever make an appearance.”
“What’s your theory?”
“Kind of similar. I think the people with them might notice it, but we see all this incredible stuff every day, so if your plants are growing extra fast—hey, that was probably just the magical fertilizer you bought at the store, why would it be the fact that you were singing to your succulent? Magic is so ingrained into the fabric of our lives from outside sources, I don’t think we’d ever stop to notice if it ever started coming from inside us.”
“That’s so…”
“Sad? That humans would never stop to think that we had magic in us too?” You chuckled cynically.
Jaemin shook his head, brow furrowed as he obviously both deep in thought and deeply perturbed. “I was going to say, hard to imagine. I can’t imagine what it feels like not having magic in you.”
“You’re made of magic. I’m not.”
“Well that’s not true. You’ve got something. You’ve got a… savvy.” Jaemin smiled and pointed smugly. “It’s what confused me the first time we met.”
“Right.”
“So how did you find out?”
“According to my parents, I didn’t talk until I was almost four. I didn’t need to, they just somehow always knew what I wanted. Used to chalk it up to good body language. But the way that people always finished my thoughts before I did, and didn’t even realize they were doing it. I hated that. It felt like they were in my head.” You clutched your arms self-soothingly at the memories. “Until I got a little older and realized that actually, I was in their heads.”
“Do you know why? Why you?”
“We’re all human, my family, as far back as we can tell. Unless someone had an affair somewhere that we don’t know about but—” You shrugged. “I’m just a human, who can think and feel really hard, and things happen. And because someone said so, that’s magic. But if I lived with a bunch of humans—and not my great-aunt—I probably would’ve gone my whole life just believing that I was really good at conveying my thoughts. Or really shit at hiding them.”
“So you can… what, exactly?”
You knew what he was asking—magic powers all had names. So what was yours?
“I don’t know, project my thoughts? Still don’t have a good name for it,” you admitted with a dejected shrug. “I don’t do it on purpose, it just kind of happens. I can never choose which ones, or who gets them, I’ve just kind of figured that that it tends to happen with ones I’m more focused on. But not always.”
“So it wasn’t great chemistry, huh?” He joked, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
“Ah, sorry, Jaemin,” you said sheepishly, then tacked on, “But I can tell you, I’ve never had someone so… receptive to my thoughts before. Like, no one person has ever gotten so many in such a short amount of time. I don’t know why, or what it means, or if it even means anything. And I do feel the need to apologize, I imagine it’s clearly been… invasive.”
“For one, don’t apologize. You said you’re not doing it on purpose, and I can’t imagine what it must be like for you, always worrying about which of your thoughts someone is going to get, who’s going to get it, and if they’ll know it was you. Don’t also worry about apologizing to me just because I listen a little better than other people. If anything, I should be apologizing to you for eavesdropping.”
“You don’t need to—”
“Now you know how you sounded,” he replied pointedly.
“Damn.”
“Anyway, I think I know exactly why I’m more… receptive.”
You eyed him curiously. “Enlighten me.”
“I’m a dryad,” he reminded you for probably the hundredth time since you met him. “We’re in touch with nature, which includes humans, and their thoughts and feelings.”
“So it’s not our great chemistry?” You trepidly quipped.
“So you agree!” He lit up. “We do have great chemistry! Aside from the magical thought-sharing?”
“I think it’s including that?” You fidgeted with your fingernails. “Because despite everything I just told you, you’re not running away. Even though I literally made you jump in a river the first time we met. Or, before we ever met.”
“I think I’m starting to get better at telling what’s your idea and what’s mine,” he said confidently. “And you’re also not running away, despite the fact that you know that your thoughts are even more available to me than other people.”
You took a deep breath and nodded. “I trust you with them. You’re the first person that I’ve told who’s… really thought of it like that. That you’re listening in, instead of me forcing something into your brain.”
“Thank you. I’m honored.”
“So uhm, while we’re talking about the first day of camp… What were you going to ask me? At Truth or Dare?”
“Still thinking about that, gorgeous?”
“Apparently. Do you remember?”
“‘Are you thinking about kissing me, too?’” He stepped closer to you again. “Though, I think I know the answer now.”
You nodded, eyes glued to where a droplet of water raced from his hair down his forehead, over his browbone, his nose, and finally between his cupid’s bow into his parted lips.
“I know I can literally hear you thinking about what my lips feel like, and exactly where you want my hands on you…” One of said hands had caught the hem of your shirt floating in the water, gently tugging it back and forth. Jaemin leaned in closer, warm breath washing over your cheek as he held eye contact with his request, “But can I also hear you say it out loud? Just once, gorgeous?”
You immediately folded, grabbing his forearms as you pleaded, “Jaem, please. I want you to kiss me, I want you to—”
“I know, beautiful, I know,” he hushed you gently, cupping your cheek and sealing his mouth over yours. His other hand let go of your shirt hem to wrap around your waist and pull you closer. Your fingernails dug into the muscles of his forearm as you pressed against him, chasing more contact in any way possible. He alternated soft bites to your bottom lip and deep kisses that left you dizzy. The cold water didn’t even register anymore as you fell more and more into Na Jaemin.
Jaemin finally drew back, leaving you with a peck on the tip of your nose. He was still looking at you with an absolutely blindingly soft smile, cradling your face with two hands. You grabbed his cheeks, kissing his nose too.
“It’s only fair,” he snickered.
“Exactly what I was thinking,” you replied humorously, pushing your forehead against his.

The sky was a beautiful crystal clear blue the next morning, and you noticed the change in Jaemin’s mood before you even got to the mess hall for breakfast. Your cabins converged on the walkway there, and you spotted Jaemin at the front of his boys, giving one a piggy-back ride as four more chased them around the rest. Sohee was actually leading the gaggle of campers, laughing and joking along with the older dryad. Without you even calling out to him, Jaemin gently dropped his camper back to the ground before turning around and giving your group a big wave.
“Morning, girls!” He grinned.
“Morning, Mister Jaemin!” They said back in a loud chorus.
You just so happened to glance down to make sure you weren’t going to step on one of the kids’ heels when you noticed that Soongie’s sneaker was untied.
“Oh, hold on, sweet. Your shoelace.” You tugged on her hand to take her to the side, out of the crowd. Kneeling down, you dutifully double-knotted it. “There. Let’s go.”
You’d just started walking and brushing the dirt off your knee when your foot got jerked back by your own shoelace which had come untied and was subsequently caught under someone’s foot. Before your face or hands could impact with the concrete, however, something sturdy wrapped around your waist and caught you. You realized it was a thick, leafy vine at the same time that two hands grabbed your arms to stand you back up, and the vine unwound from around you.
“Woah, you alright?” It was Jaemin, of course, already checking your hands and arms over for injuries.
“Yeah, Jaem, I’m fine,” you smiled as he fidgeted with your beaded bracelet from Soongie. “Tied Soongie’s shoe and completely missed the fact that mine was untied too. Thanks for the save.”
He dutifully dropped to one knee to tie your shoe for you, and you wanted to be embarrassed at being treated like a child, but really, all you could think about was pulling him back up when he was done and kissing him.
“Not here, beautiful,” he grinned and winked at you.
You rolled your eyes and pushed his head away from you, but you knew it was all negated by your fond smile and thoughts.

WEEK 4
The Swallowtails were back in the arts and crafts cabin, and you were hard at work at the friendship bracelet station. You may have sucked at making clover crowns, but you weren’t half-bad at this, at least. Searching through the piles of beads, you secured a few more green and brown ones, as well as some in the shape of white daisies to add.
Jaemin was at the bead table too, and you pretended not to be interested in what he was making, even as he had not-very-quietly whispered to one of your girls sitting next to him asking if she knew what your favorite color was. The camper had told him with a giggle, some of the other campers pitching in with their opinions on whatever he was making throughout it. You acted like you hadn’t heard anything, looking up from your own craft only to survey the cabin or when someone called your name asking for help.
You’d just secured the clasp on the necklace you had been working on when a throat was cleared across from you. Looking up, you raised your eyebrows at Jaemin curiously. “Yes…?”
His project had disappeared from in front of him, but one of his hands was behind his back, so you had a suspicion as to where it went. The dryad held his other hand out palm-up on the table between you two. “May I?”
You put out your arm that already had your friendship bracelet from Soongie on it, and he grasped it gently. “Close your eyes?” He requested.
Amused, you did so, feeling when he slipped another bracelet on your wrist. You peeked one eye open, immediately spotting the bracelet that was comprised mostly of beads of your favorite color. You grinned, spinning it around to admire it.
“It’s perfect. Thanks, Jaem,” you said. Picking up the necklace, you declared, “Your turn.”
Standing up, you walked around to stand behind him, fastening the clasp at the back of his neck for him. “There you go.”
It was a shorter necklace, resting right at his collarbones, so he had to use his phone camera to look at it. His fingertips ran over the beads, then he reached back to squeeze your hand that was resting lightly on his shoulder.
“I love it.” He tilted his head back to absolutely beam at you.

At dinner, you weren’t even surprised when Jaemin joined you and Soongie in the line to get your food. You fondly noted that he was still wearing the necklace from earlier.
Leaning in towards him, you breathed in the familiar smells of roses and pine, then murmured, “Will you meet me? After lights-out tonight?”
“I had this weird feeling that you were going to ask me that,” he teased. “Yes.”

“So where are we headed?” Jaemin asked as soon as you found each other that night.
You didn’t hesitate to take his hand, lacing your fingers with his. “I want to try to make clover crowns again.”
He started tugging you down the walkways. “Let’s do it.”
Taking a deep breath of the fresh air that was all around you, you let out an unintentional sigh after. “I can’t believe we’re going back tomorrow.”
“It always amazes me how fast a month goes here.”
“We’re going to—I’m going to see you again, right? When we get back?”
Jaemin screeched to a stop in the middle of the trail, turning to you with a startlingly severe look on his face. “What kind of question—Of course. We live in the same city, go to the same school. I meant everything I said, Y/N.”
“I-I know, Jaem.” You glanced up at the stars peeking through the treetops. “I guess this whole month sort of felt surreal… I’m worried about what real life will be like for us.”
“It’ll be better,” he said confidently. “Because I can take you on real dates there.”
You chuckled, squeezing his hand. “I don’t know, the waterfall was pretty romantic.”
“I’m glad you think so, beautiful.” He started down the trail again. “Come on, we’re almost there.”

The camp was in a fairly remote location, so everyone loaded up onto buses in the morning to drive back into the city, where the children would then be picked up by their parents. Since you had volunteered for the set-up crew, you weren’t staying for break-down, which meant you were going back with the kids and monitoring pick-up for your campers.
Most of the kids (and counselors) were napping on the bus, thoroughly tuckered out from the month of camp, and having to get up early to eat breakfast before the buses departed. Soongie was curled up on the bench seat with her head in your lap as she slept, and you yawned just looking at her.
“Tired, gorgeous?” Jaemin murmured from his aisle seat next to you. The three of you probably didn’t need to squeeze into one row, but there was no part of you that wanted to tell him to move.
“Mm, a bit,” you admitted, leaning your head on his shoulder.
“Sleep.” He shifted to wrap his arm around you, encouraging you to rest your head in the crook of his neck.

After waking up, pick-up went surprisingly smooth. Most of the campers’ parents were already at the pick-up location, so it was just a matter of checking IDs and sending the families on their way. Soongie excitedly tugged you over to a trio of adults, one of whom looked far too old to be her parent, and another looked far too young—your age at most. They introduced themselves as her covenmates, and one of the witches was in fact her biological father, the one who looked between the other two in age. You chatted with them for a little bit as they confessed to being nervous since this was Soongie’s first time away from the coven. You filled them in on how well she did at camp, downplaying the horrors of the first night to put their minds at ease. Soongie gave you one last big hug before all four of them left with huge smiles on their faces.
Ningning was driving herself and some of the other junior counselors home, and you sent them off with a wave, the witch honking her horn in return. When things around the lot were finally quiet, you saw that all the campers were gone, and the lead counselors were even beginning to disperse as well. Jaemin was already walking up to you, his duffel bag on his shoulder.
“Heading out?” You asked, trying to hide your disappointment.
“In a minute. Now that pick-up’s done…” He grabbed one of your wrists with one hand and tugged your friendship bracelet from Soongie off with the other.
“Hey, that’s—”
“Your bad luck charm.”
You looked between him and the gift in confusion. “What?”
“Soongie didn’t do it on purpose. Witches that little have no control over their powers. I didn’t say something before because I know you wouldn’t have gotten rid of it while you were still around her, and all it’s been doing is minorly inconveniencing you.” He turned the bracelet around in his fingers to look at the plastic beads. “If it was seriously hurting you, I would’ve intervened.”
“Wait, so when I tripped on my shoelace…?”
“And when the canoe flipped, and all the spots at the mess hall being taken, and probably anything else that went wrong this whole month.” He tossed it up in the air and caught it before pocketing it. “Unless you’re usually that unlucky?”
“No, I just figured it was because this was my first year. Learning the ropes and stuff,” you shrugged, still bewildered as suddenly everything was clicking.
“Unintentional sabotage.”
“Well, good thing I had you then, huh?” You joked, nudging him with your elbow. “My guardian dryad.”
He pretended to wipe sweat off his brow. “It was tough work, keeping an extra close eye on you.”
“Aw, and here I thought you were hanging around me so much because of our great chemistry?”
“That too.” Jaemin looped an arm around your shoulders to pull you into him, peppering kisses on your cheek as you giggled and futilely tried to hide your face from him. “Mostly that.”

Masterlist of My Works
Morveren | AO3
This is a personal blog, but I do take the occasional ask/requests. SFW asks only, please.
Genshin Impact
Stories:
✸ Someday, Somewhere (Xiao x Reader) (AO3)
You meet Adeptus Xiao under strange new skies.
✸ Speak (Xiao x Reader) (AO3)
Learning to love him is like learning a different language.
✸ Silk Flowers (Xiao x Reader) (Tumblr | AO3)
It was the silk flowers.
In summer time, they are practically given away: to seamstresses, to scribes, or perhaps, woven into the hair of a well-known customer. The token of a bargain well-struck.
Xiao claims not to be bothered by them, that adepti are above petty mortal concerns like jealousy.
Perhaps he is right, and you are reading too much into it.
But perhaps, as you are slowly learning, adepti are closer to humans than they’d like to admit.
You decide to test this theory.
"Xiao, if you hate the flowers so much," you say, smiling. "Why not take them off?"
✸ A Crown of Bone (Zhongli x Reader) (Tumblr | AO3)
Imagine being a changeling child and living your life in quiet yearning.
You had been found in the dead of winter, or so your mother tells you, a half-fey child abandoned in a snowbank.
Imagine a lifetime of secrets: your first memories are of a spring that does not belong to the mortal realm. You dream of golden eyes gleaming at you from the darkness as your mother picked you up and carried you away.
Imagine keeping these things to yourself, tucked away against the curve of your ribs, right next to your slow-beating heart. Secrets that are half-yearning and half-memory: someone had left you there in that snowbank, and there are days that you think that they did not do so willingly.
And you hope that one day, they will find you again

Stories:
✸ The Pizza Delivery Girl's Survival Guide to Gotham City (Jason Todd x Reader) (AO3)
People who lived outside of Gotham City would most often think of it in terms of its heroes and villains. About Batman and Robin, Joker and Harley Quinn.
People who actually live in Gotham City would only think of one thing: surviving.
Who cares about the people in costumes when your house has been bombed for the fifth time, or your wife has been taken hostage just because she worked in a bank?
Or, in your case, when you have to make regular deliveries to places where even Batman feared to tread?
Because let's face it. In a world full of superheroes and costumed villains, the real heroes are the ones who make sure that people get their pizzas in forty-five minutes or less.
✸ His Father's Son (Jason Todd x Reader, Dark Fantasy!AU) (AO3)
Gotham City: the world’s last and greatest bastion of magic. A city made out of spells and twisting steel.
And the only place where the dead can be brought back to life.
After Jason Todd had been forcibly resurrected by his father, he left Gotham City in search of a new life. One where he did not have to be constantly reminded that he now sits on the border between the monstrous and the miraculous. One where he could forget that no longer quite belongs in the world of the living.
But when a strange new curse surfaces, one that causes plants to take root inside of living people and leaving flowering corpses in its wake, Jason finds that he must come back and help solve the case before it devours the city whole.
✸ Rules of Vanishing (Jason Todd x Reader) (AO3)
Here are the rules to survive as a civilian in Gotham City:
The first rule is to keep your head down. Don't draw attention to yourself. Don't make eye contact. Walk briskly and with purpose. Don't wear anything flashy that can be stolen and most certainly do not walk down that dark alley.
The second rule is don't be a hero. Avoid confrontations. Walk the other way when you see a standoff. Don't try to help that man getting beat up in the alley, because odds are you'll get killed right along with him. Gotham City has Batman for a reason.
The third and most important rule is this: Don't get involved with superheroes.
Or in your case, gun-toting vigilantes.
✸ Next to Last (Jason Todd x Reader) (AO3)
After Batman’s death, Jason is left to pick up the pieces.
✸ Revenant (Creature!Jason x Reader) (Tumblr)
✸ The Precious Details of You (Yandere!Jason Todd x Reader) (Tumblr) (AO3)
You ask him the same question, the way you always do.
“When are you going to let me go?”
And Jason replies, the way he always has: “Soon.”

I just got bottom surgery and I’ve been having so many horny dreams that I can’t do anything about because my bits are healing.
In the most recent one I was taken by a cult, transformed into a pixie with feathered wings, and teleported to an animal shifter fey court as an offering along with 9 other people who had a similar encounter with a cult.
As it turns out, it was mating season, and our new fey-adjacent biology made us very aware of that fact. One of my fellow captives caught a whiff of the fey lords we were being offered to, who were at present trying to decide who to pick, and immediately went into heat on the spot. We got to watch as a fey lord with a cat like nature transformed, scruffed her with his teeth, and bred her on the spot with little resistance on her end, all too happy to be filled up with cock.
A full on orgy ensued as everyone got horny from watching the pair fuck nasty with no end in sight with more fey going into heat and being claimed as well, and we learned three things: 1. We could go into heat at any time, regardless of what our biology was, but sexual stimulation would make it more likely to happen 2. Being shot full of cum while in heat would have to happen to all of us eventually if we were to truly be claimed by the fey lord who chose us 3. The fey lords were happy to share, especially if their new toy was difficult to satisfy amidst a heat.
I felt my underwear become a total mess that dripped down my thighs at the sight, but thankfully my heat didn’t hit and the disapproving bitchy exterior I exuded meant I was left alone. Unfortunately, my stubbornness also made me the perfect target for the prince of the court, a brute with multiple animal forms to his name that was looking for a stubborn human to break.
From there, several things happened. The fey lords picked their favorites, and each time the court reconvened, more of my fellow captives were seen either pregnant or bouncing blissfully on the cock of their lord while they talked.
Each moment I was with my new lord, he was attempting to get me horny enough to trigger my heat. He couldn’t fuck my hole until I was in heat, but he still fucked my mouth and my thighs, and he slid his prick back and forth over my lubed hole hoping the friction and erotic scenes would trigger my heat. And when he was done, he would make sure I wore his cum for the rest of the day, the sticky sensation making me unable to put him out of my mind.
The feeling of being used did drive me nuts deep down, but I was stubborn. I didn’t want to be claimed, I wanted to go home. So I researched in the lord’s library when he’d finally spent himself trying to induce my heat. I pulled old tomes that detailed the relationship between the human and fey worlds, and the rules that governed them.
Normal rules dictated that humans couldn’t leave once they had fey food and drink—however, I was a fey now. Even if I had no magic of my own I belonged to no one (yet), so I could come and go as a I pleased.
If I could just make it to the border and cross over, the spell would be undone—I’d be human again, and I could return home.
So one day when no one was looking, I took off into the woods. I didn’t trust the wings on my back to not lead me astray, so I sprinted on foot in the direction of the border.
Not long after, I could hear someone in pursuit. I knew it was him—those daily sessions spent rutting into my body made me intimately familiar with all the sounds he and he alone made. And he sounded close.
Knowing I was losing ground, I took a chance and took flight. I was clumsy with my wings, but I knew it was faster than running.
As I began to make up the ground I lost, I heard a mighty bone-chilling roar—it sounded like three beasts rolled into one screeching after me, and it sent a shiver down my spine that pooled in my loins. Still, I managed to put it out of my mind, and I doubled my efforts to get away.
Only when I heard him finally fade into the background of the forest did I stop to rest. I found a small nook under a grand oak tree and made that my refuge.
As I rested, I thought about that roar. I rubbed my thighs together at the thought of that terrifying sound coming from his throat, feeling the cum from when he fucked my thighs earlier today making them stick together. I thought about how I was almost home free, and all the things I wouldn’t miss—no more thick ridged cock fucking into my throat until I was being fed his cum, no more cum coating my stomach and thighs that made my thoughts turn filthy as I went about my day, no more having my hole rutted against with his cock at a torturous pace until I came from that alone and—oh
A wave of heat washed over my body accompanied by a shiver, once again stopping to pool in my loins. Suddenly I was hot all over and couldn’t think of anything but cum shooting into my hole. I humped the ground, seeking friction but finding none of it satisfying until a voice told me to stop.
Instinct took over and I heeded the voice. Instead I stripped bare, found a thick root to hold onto, bent over and spread myself wide, letting my full scent permeate the air in the surrounding forest. I didn’t know why but it felt right, like some hidden instinct in me was satisfied with me presenting myself to whoever decided to breed me first. It kept the heat that was overtaking me bearable, but only slightly.
Suddenly I wished I had stayed at my lord’s estate, knowing I wouldn’t have to wait so long for a cock to sink into me if I had just stayed. I was a slave to my body’s needs, any previous notion of escape dashed in favor of following my instincts.
Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long. I heard a rustling in the bushes, and before I could process what was happening, something had mounted me and was slamming full force into my hole. They set a brutal pace and I couldn’t be happier with it, chanting yes yes yes as the heat finally abated a bit. But just as we were both about to cum, the creature that had set about claiming me was ripped off. I cried at the sudden loss, oblivious to the tearing of flesh and scent of blood behind me, but my cries were shushed by the threatening whispers in my ear:
You belong to me alone, love.
It was my lord
Seconds later he was sinking into me sensually with an audible squelch and setting an even more brutal pace than the creature before him, jaws squeezing around my neck possessively. Just when I thought I was close again, he stopped. I cried, begging him to continue, trying to bounce back against him, but he tightened his claws in my hips and held firm, and his growls at my insubordinance made me still. Then he resumed fucking me, only to stop again just like that as I was getting close three more times.
I was a mess. We’d been going at it for 30 minutes and I still hadn’t cum. I was getting close again, I could feel it, the heat was driving me insane and begging for release—yet, he stopped again, and I began sobbing.
How badly do you want to cum? He asked. What would you do for it?
ANYTHING I rasped, please, I’ll do anything for you
Anything? He repeated. Would you give yourself to me? I nodded vigorously, too desperate to understand what I was giving over, and I could feel his predatory grin on my neck.
It’s a deal he said, pulling all the way out and slamming back in with all his might. He did that again, and again, and again, fast and fluid in a way that made me lose my mind until—
I screamed, finally cumming the biggest orgasm of my life and going limp underneath him. He continued fucking me brutally, milking every aftershock from my body until finally, he slammed all the way in and shot thick ropes of cum deep into me.
I thought we were done, but then I felt something huge at the base of his shaft push into me—a knot. He knotted me, but he still wasn’t done. He kept fucking me, cumming in me four more times and making me cum many times more until his knot finally deflated.
Finally, he pulled out, and a flood of cum poured all over my ass and thighs. I sank to the floor, feeling limp and satisfied.
Was that good pet? He asked
Yes, I said dreamily
Yes what? He responded
Yes, master I replied, nothing else making sense in that moment except for who I belonged to.
—-
I got way too into retelling that but yeah that’s the kind of shit I’m dealing with, I’m a horny mess that keeps having these dreams and I can only get the energy out by writing about it. I’m gonna incorporate this into a longer fic i think

dissecting the lost in limbo demo and speculating about literally everything!!
this is just me being insane and connecting dots that probably don't actually connect. assmaster made similar connections i did so i feel a little less silly abt this! :)
just. hear me out
the seer
firstly,
amon is that you
who is the one between? pride? or the tower entity? is the seer on pride's side or the tower's??
now what the hell does our grandma have to do with any of this. does she actually know anything or is she just superstitious and kinda sorta suspects something. she's been working for DECADES to dispel the darkness that hangs over faybourne? FOR DECADES? do you mean trying to convince mc to leave? because she knew all along something would happen to us? + if another dialogue option is chosen, the seer says "life has tried to bend you to the ways of others, and still... you have prevailed." which in my mind basically translates to "even though you moved away, you came back. as you were destined to do." mc says they think they're here by pure chance. the seer says "the one between doesn't believe in such a thing... that you are here today before me, just like they predicted... it can be nothing if not divine [...] providence." so we are absolutely destined for this by some higher power.
oh,, WERE we torn between two worlds. OH WERE WE NOW-
brother (lysander) sees a curse. seer (lazaro) sees a blessing. does the brother see faybourne as cursed bc it suffers unwanted effects of the tower ? or is it simply a curse (i.e nuisance) bc it is producing wanderers for pride (or the tower)? whose side is lysander on? whose side is lazaro on??? does the tower want to consume limbo? also the firstborn (human realm)?? is this why the seer views it as a blessing? do they want these worlds to merge or fall apart all together? is the connection between faybourne and limbo the source of their abilities? i just assume they're originally from limbo, but maybe not. i just wonder why one sees it as a curse and the other sees it as a blessing. (i'm rlly simplifying these characters & their possible motivations lol)
interesting. so the town of faybourne is directly related to limbo. linked. parallels. reflections.
"the scar in limbo's chest" is that the tower? or could it mean something else more metaphorical, like a betrayal?
"for the benefit of both realms" interesting....... is lazaro limbo-born but residing in the firstborn?? is lysander a capitalist
ALL THIS TIME, i'm thinking the seer is on pride's side. but here he is telling us to fight against him! and the seer says "this wasn't supposed to happen! this wasn't part of the deal!" did pride betray them by telling us to fight? we were sent to limbo--was that not their goal? (were they instead trying to disconnect us from the tower? magically protect us? what else was this ritual for?) or did they just not expect to be hurt in the process? * this is all assuming ??? is pride. more on that later
limbo
when the realm turns red w/ hatred, the silhouette almost resembles envy (the hair!) before returning to the original style. young pride? envy? ?????
FURTHER... the tower entity (the narrating voice mc hears) calls this silhouette (represented by ???) the betrayer. pride has betrayed the tower in some way. more on this in a moment.
+ envy is also a traitor (via treason, iirc)
is this a connection? is this why nobody cares about our wound. are we gonna be healed. or was that a one time thing?? were we simply being stitched back together from the inside even after entering limbo? freaky nonetheless..
i speculated a lot on WHO wanted us sent to limbo. but what's interesting is that it seems we land just outside the borders of the woods beyond--a dangerous place clearly marked by the red ropes. mc wanders downhill, however, too close to this border, maybe even going past it and deeper into danger. + later on, it's mentioned that the voidbound have unexpectedly wandered past this border. if we are sent here by some godlike being, be it pride or the tower, why have they sent us into danger? was it pure chance where we'd fall out of the sky? or did pride want us somewhere safe and isolated enough, but we wandered away + the voidbound situation has worsened? did the tower want us in its reach the moment we fell into limbo? the tower wouldn't want us to die. right?? pride wouldn't want us to die! he scolds us when we do..... right???
the voidbound (this is where i get crazy)
now i watched fullmetal alchemist brotherhood as a kid and it forever defined the rest of my life. the themes of creating new lifeforms from scratch, humans trying to attain godhood in this sense, homunculi and other half-formed monstrosities gross me out and scare me in the best way. when i first saw the voidbound in the demo, i immediately thought of the mannequin soldiers (gore warning!). this is why the line "it holds itself like a scared little kid" stood out to me so much. are these voidbound, these disgusting creatures made of melted flesh and mismatched body parts, the children of the tower entity? did the tower entity try to create children the way pride did? did pride sabotage them? is the tower a scorned lover or a sibling (parallel to lysander & the seer)? FURTHER... did pride create limbo in the image of the firstborn (the human realm)? is this why he is called father pride? we know envy isn't their real name, so is it some kind of dishonor or punishment to be named after your greatest sin? did pride see himself a god and therefore create life? did the tower try as well and failed?
the one between
OK SO he did not like that. but i cannot tell if it's bc HE IS "the one between" or if it's bc the TOWER ENTITY is. i thought that because it's his silhouette guiding us to limbo, reforming our body, bringing us back to life if we die to the voidbound, he must not be "the one between." bc if he is, he'd know the seer was sending us to limbo. he'd know about the ritual. instead of an interrogation, there would've been celebration. "guys my new wanderer just got here!! check 'em out!!" but instead we were threatened, questioned, and treated like a prisoner. like we were the enemy. so who was the silhouette? who is the one between? whose wanderer are we? does he know mc is under the influence of the tower? i don't think so. it seems only xal knows (unless pride is hiding things). does he not expect his wanderer to be under the tower's influence? is this where the ritual went wrong? were we meant to be sent to limbo all along, but pride didn't know about our connection to the tower? did the tower plant this seed decades ago, waiting for the moment we found ourselves in limbo? to use us as a weapon against pride? is every wanderer connected to the tower? is that what makes them the wanderer? is every wanderer the fabled "wanderer of worlds" ara talks so highly about, or are we the only real-deal hero?
this bit of dialogue is so interesting to me. obvious god makes humans and garden of eden corruption via humans committing sins references here. pride wanted to create a world in the image of the human realm but free from sin. a perfect version of the firstborn. he was only meant to keep watch over the universe and he thought himself god enough to create a whole new world. does his name make sense or what also interesting they used the word "watchtower" ..... and they pronouns for the one between. but maybe that's just to keep the identity of them secret.
we are not the first wanderer. and if mc continues to die, it's clear we will not be the last. but the game ends when we die. the story ends. this wanderer has to be under the influence of the tower. this is what makes us different from all other wanderers. this is what allows us to not only make it to limbo but to survive in limbo. because we are enacting the will of the one between.
interjection: going back to my fullmetal alchemist connection... if wanderers come to limbo and die immediately, and we as the newest wanderer landed just outside the tower, and when we die, we are dragged into void goop... are the voidbound the reanimated, cobbled-together remains of past wanderers? i want this to be true going off this idea, we as the wanderer are a child of the tower :) so it's like romeo and juliet when we fall in love with one of pride's children! <3
back to regularly scheduled programming: is this why pride reacts in FEAR when we mention the one between? not offense or pleasant surprise. "his calm countenance is shattered by the grip of fear." we aren't supposed to know this name, are we?
if ??? is pride, then he knows his wanderer is under the tower's influence. he knows we are being sent to limbo. if ??? isn't actually pride...
he wouldn't know our intentions. is it just a past manifestation of him? a younger him? like a flashback, caught in time? is it (one of?) his god form(s), while the pride we meet in limbo is his physical "mortal" form? or is it the tower in disguise? WHAT IS GOING ON?? also.. "breaking into my sacred chest"? remember the seer mentioning "the scar in limbo's chest" earlier? i cannot tell if this is just chest (box)/chest (body part) and i'm reading too far into it or if this is very very clever writing to disguise smth.... is chest referring to faybourne in one and limbo in the other? we've already established these two places are intrinsically linked so it's not strange they'd be referred to with the same word. adding onto this, i also noticed the human realm where mc comes from is referred to as the firstborn and the city mc lived in is faybourne. i think that's a clever way of helping players understand they're the same realm--if that was intentional :)
this post is like 98% questions bc honestly idk what is going on (in the best way). the characters' motivations seem obvious one moment then i think way too hard abt it and suddenly everything is flipped. i just wanna know who the good/bad guys are bc that'll clear up a bunch!! honestly it's rlly fun not knowing who to trust/what side MC is actually on. i hope the tower's influence makes us do some questionable things :3
if you made any other connections or have any theories pls lmk!!!
#i added a bunch more to this just now#been working on and off on this post so if it's disorganized i'm sorry!!!#lost in limbo#( WANDER ) * lost in limbo!

Loup is the daughter of a "Wolf Man", a soldier enhanced with wolven traits which she have now inherited, allowing her to take a stand against the soldiers keeping her small home town oppressed. Also features a main f/f couple!

Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones

How to Be a Werewolf by Shawn Lenore*
Graphic novel, available as printed or webcomic. Having never met another werewolf, Malaya knows little of what she is - until she meets a stranger claiming to be like her, and that she's far from alone. But the more she gets involved with other werewolves, the more she also gets dragged into the dangerous conflicts between packs.
Artie and the Wolf Moon by Olivia Stephens
Middle grade graphic novel. One night, young Artie witnesses something incredible - her own mother turning into a wolf. Bored Gay Werewolf by Tony Santorella
Brian is a slacker, having dropped out from college, working as a waiter, and spending his nights drinking with his friends - except the nights when he turns into a werewolf, of course. But after having slipped and killed a jogger, Brian is noticed by fellow werewolf Tyler, who's working on a self-help startup for werewolves and offers to mentor Brian. At first Tyler's methods helps Brian get back on his feet, but the more he learns of Tyler's expansion plans, the more he realizes he might be bad news. A good read if you want a funny, goofy take down of toxic masculinity that doesn't take itself very seriously.

Such Sharp Teeth by Kim Harrison*
When her pregnant twin sister is left by her boyfriend, Rory decides to go back to her home town and stay with her for a time. But the town is also the home of old childhood trauma, and something wild is roaming the woods. When she gets attacked and mauled one night, Rory's successful life is changed forever. Lycanthropy used as a metaphor for female rage, trauma, and bad coping mechanisms.
What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo
Young adult horror. It's been years since Eleanor Zarrin last saw her family, having been sent away to boarding school when she was little. But after a bloody misstep, Eleanor must flee the school and return home to her family's manor. Here she's reminded of her family's darker side, and that she has never been able to run and hunt in the woods alongside them. But in a family of wolves Eleanor is something else - and even more dangerous.
Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold
Young adult horror. A take on the little red riding hood tale where the girl is both the victim of the wolf and the huntsman who slays it. After a particularly embarrassing incident, young Bisou flees into the woods, only to be faced with a predatory wolf. To her shock, their face-off ends with the wolf dead, not Bisou. Even more shocking: the dead wolf turns into a boy. Suddenly, Bisou finds herself a hunter and a protector, routing out the wolves who masquerade as boys. Visceral and bloody, but pretty feminism 101 in its portrayal.

Fear the Wolf by Stefanie Gilmour

The only person outside her family who knows her secret is Emma, a wizard and Alex's closest friend. Medieval AU where Viktor is secretly a witch that helps people through providing medicine.
Jayce is a traveling monster hunter (massive hammer included lol) following rumors about a sinister witch.
⬇️
When Jayce arrives at the supposed witch’s village the people there are mysteriously protective, barely giving him any information but plenty of nasty looks.
“Aren’t you afraid?” Jayce ask one of the older farmers. “Magic is dangerous, it has destroyed civilizations.” The woman then explains to him how the witch had treated her daughter’s illness, saving her from an untimely death. Something in Jayce starts to feels conflicted.
Even with people trying to block his path at every turn, the witch can only hide for so long. Eventually Jayce finds their home at the border of the woods.
Instead of the fabled old and hideous looking hag the cottage is lived in by a young—temptingly attractive—man. Jayce tries to convince himself that their appearance is only an illusion, still he swings his hammer less determined, misses, and a cheap hex moves the floor beneath his feet—taking him down and leaving him unconscious.
Jayce expects it to be his grave but strangely he wakes up in a bed and not a coffin. The witch has chained him to the bed (lest he cause more trouble) and is kindly treating his wounds.
Instead of brawl Jayce starts asking him questions then: why the witch does all this, how he learned the art of witchcraft, why he didn’t kill him, what his name is…
His name is Viktor.
Viktor promises to let him go if he does one thing: slay the creature guarding fertile soil in the forrest: the residents need the land for agriculture, but a sly placed golem has been guarding the land for years and Viktor is not as mobile between overgrown plants so he can’t do it himself.
Jayce agrees and hesitantly lets Viktor enchant his hammer when he offers. It’s not a simple battle and Jayce injures his leg but through determination they succeed.
Viktor tends to his wounds once again—now the recovery time is months instead of days. He cooks for Jayce, sows new clothes, and entertains him with the stories of the old world.
As time passes Jayce grows fond of him. Viktor is kind, attentive, charming. The best of ‘humanity’. But… guilt also stirs within him. How many secretly kind magical creatures had he killed before? How many of his good intentions have only spread more suffering?
On a particularly bad day Jayce can’t take it anymore. When the reality of his sins consumes him Jayce downs Viktor’s lethal potions.
Instead of dying he wakes once again in Viktor’s bed.
Viktor’s furious, saddened, regretful, but still filled with empathy and affection as always. He begs Jayce to stay. That he loves him for who he is, with or without the blood on his hands.
In the end the village gains a new forge, one that specializes in magical tools at that. With time Jayce slowly learns to have compassion for himself. Instead of the village he was the one in need of salvation. Jayce found the witch, the love of his life and beyond.
#soon I’ll get around to making Jayce more magical too lmao bear with me#jayvik#viktor arcane#arcane#jayce talis#viktor#au#alternate universe#jayce x viktor#Jayce

johnny cage > forget me not (pt.1)
you're living your ordinary life when something malfunctions, sucking you into a world you swore was familiar - but only from a screen.
warnings: not proofread, magical bullshittery but who's gonna complain?
notes: my first long term jc/mk fic! i hope you all enjoy it, and if there's enough hype for a part two, then i'll continue it! <3 also, this is heavily inspired by jill sandwich's 'fatal attraction' on ao3 :)
[ masterlist ]

the pastel clouds of the evening swirled ominously above you as you trudged home, shoes soaked and hair sopping. you had forgotten an umbrella, a common occurrence as you rush about your apartment to get ready for work, and was now facing the consequences. the city was quieter than usual, seemingly offering you a path home reliant on peace and ease. it seemed everyone except for you prepared for the hellish weather, but thankfully, the walk from work wasn't unbearable, and you were able to hide under just enough construction work and awnings to avoid properly soaking yourself in rain. the weekend was turning its pretty head around the corner, and all you could think about was your excitement to hop onto your pc and do one of the only things that brings you joy in these trying times. you were long overdue for a night to yourself, with all the company projects and scolding burrowing themselves into your patience.
you managed to make it to your apartment just in time, as the storm seemed to worsen, now becoming a genuine concern. after showering and changing into something more comfortable, you padded your way to your office, a tucked away corner of your apartment that you took great pride in. its window overlooked the city, and it was heavily decorated with memorabilia and merchandise from your favorite medias. your living situation was fairly windowed, taking up a whole wall in your office. you tried hard to pay it no mind as you sat in your chair, wheeling it closer to the desk.
thunder clapped as you powered on your monster of a pc, a possession you valued more than most things in your apartment. it whirred to life, displaying your collection of apps and games. deciding you needed to blow off some steam, you booted up mortal kombat 1. you had never properly played it until this point, as you purchased it for yourself as a birthday present but lost the time to fully indulge due to work and outside circumstances. now was a good a time as ever, you figured, as the game booted up.
your pc made a funky noise, something bordering between a crackle and hiss, something you'd never heard from your machine before. as you leaned down to inspect it, another crack of lightning and thunder tore you from the task, making you jump up with your attention pulled into the screen as a cutscene involuntarily played.
you were familiar with the previous timeline in the series, having played the eleventh game religiously, and many before that. you were a long-term fan, familiar with the community and content and considering yourself a part of the fandom. the cutscene explained liu kang's efforts after the previous game, explaining how he painted an entirely new universe centered around peace. the thought intrigued you, how he could whittle kahns and sorcerers down to nothing and still have a balanced timeline. you felt only more dragged in the longer the cutscene went on for. his voice provided comfort for you over the years, a gentle yet firm tone that you found great familiarity in, one that drowned out the increasingly scarier thunder.
time had seemed to fly as you breezed through story mode. well, you had set the mode to easy, you may have been an experienced player but you weren't a good one. the fights were light work, and it wasn't long before you had progressed through the collection of earthrealm's champions. you were most excited to see your long-term favorite, johnny cage. he was less bulked up this time around, and yet something about it charmed you. he felt more... human. the graphics were no joke, highlighting every imperfection, or lack thereof, on the character's faces. you caught yourself replaying moments or missing them entirely after staring at the detail for too long.
as you were marveling at the quality, your pc crackled again, this time it was hard to ignore. your fans had started to shake and rattle, spinning unevenly. your graphics card's display light flickered, and the motherboard was starting to vibrate. you concluded it must be the storm outside fucking with your wires, but as you reached to reset the pc, a particularly blinding lightning strike disoriented you.
your brain felt to be swelling in your skull, breath being sucked from your lungs as you lost your sense of direction. with lightning comes thunder, and yet it was a complete silence that followed the blinding light. come to think of it, your vision hadn't repaired itself. a pale white offended your view, obscuring reality as it stood.
whether time had passed or not was lost to you as your eyelids flutter open. what you assumed to be your fuzzy carpet tickled at your skin, a faint rush of wind cooling the surface as a warmth seemed to tan you at the same time.
...wind? you were just indoors...?
"hey, hey, easy," a familiar voice encourages you, hovering above you and concealing what you now realized was the sun above you. "don't need you beating yourself up any further. you look like hell, no offence."
"whur..." you grumbled, not entirely adjusted to the surroundings. you had magically appeared outside, likely embarrassingly on the grass of your apartment's courtyard. you had wondered how you got there.
your vision restored with time, albeit a little hazy as you were finally able to take in your surroundings. a man was standing above you, another one behind them. large hats shadowed their faces, the contrast of lighting not fully adjusted to. it was the voice that shocked you conscious.
"kung lao?" you asked in response, brows furrowed as your vision cleared fully. sure enough, the fictional character kung lao from mortal kombat was standing above you, offering a helping hand. a man you eventually recognized as raiden was behind him, a look of concern on his gentle face.
kung lao slightly withdraws his hand, frowning. "how did you...?" his question is interrupted by a flurry of footsteps, nameless and equally dressed monks surrounding you fully now, murmuring to themselves as they take in your appearance. they part ways to a large man, and its the voice that grabs at you first.
"this is... unprecedented." liu kang.
"alright, alright," a third voice intrudes your hearing. "if everyone was distracted from my epic moves, this must be important, yeah?"
kung lao and the man you now identified as liu kang part for the third voice, who stomps over and stands above you. his hands fall to his hips. the light adjusts.
"well hel—lo beautiful," johnny cage raises a brow, his lip twitching up into a smirk. "are you an angel? cause... you know. you fell from the sky. except you did actually do that. how did you do that?"
your head feels light, spinning from the change of environment — that, and the discovery that you had... teleported, into a fictional universe. as you try to stomach it all, you're overwhelmed and your consciousness slips from your grasp as you pass back out.

I'm writing a sci-fi story about a space freight hauler with a heavy focus on the economy. Any tips for writing a complex fictional economy and all of it's intricacies and inner-workings?
Constructing a Fictional Economy
The economy is all about: How is the limited financial/natural/human resources distributed between various parties?
So, the most important question you should be able to answer are:
Who are the "have"s and "have-not"s?
What's "expensive" and what's "commonplace"?
What are the rules(laws, taxes, trade) of this game?
Building Blocks of the Economic System
Type of economic system. Even if your fictional economy is made up, it will need to be based on the existing systems: capitalism, socialism, mixed economies, feudalism, barter, etc.
Currency and monetary systems: the currency can be in various forms like gols, silver, digital, fiat, other commodity, etc. Estalish a central bank (or equivalent) responsible for monetary policy
Exchange rates
Inflation
Domestic and International trade: Trade policies and treaties. Transportation, communication infrastructure
Labour and employment: labor force trends, employment opportunities, workers rights. Consider the role of education, training and skill development in the labour market
The government's role: Fiscal policy(tax rate?), market regulation, social welfare, pension plans, etc.
Impact of Technology: Examine the role of tech in productivity, automation and job displacement. How does the digital economy and e-commerce shape the world?
Economic history: what are some historical events (like The Great Depresion and the 2008 Housing Crisis) that left lasting impacts on the psychologial workings of your economy?
For a comprehensive economic system, you'll need to consider ideally all of the above. However, depending on the characteristics of your country, you will need to concentrate on some more than others. i.e. a country heavily dependent on exports will care a lot more about the exchange rate and how to keep it stable.
For Fantasy Economies:
Social status: The haves and have-nots in fantasy world will be much more clear-cut, often with little room for movement up and down the socioeconoic ladder.
Scaricity. What is a resource that is hard to come by?
Geographical Characteristics: The setting will play a huge role in deciding what your country has and doesn't. Mountains and seas will determine time and cost of trade. Climatic conditions will determine shelf life of food items.
Impact of Magic: Magic can determine the cost of obtaining certain commodities. How does teleportation magic impact trade?
For Sci-Fi Economies Related to Space Exploration
Thankfully, space exploitation is slowly becoming a reality, we can now identify the factors we'll need to consider:
Economics of space waste: How large is the space waste problem? Is it recycled or resold? Any regulations about disposing of space wste?
New Energy: Is there any new clean energy? Is energy scarce?
Investors: Who/which country are the giants of space travel?
Ownership: Who "owns" space? How do you draw the borders between territories in space?
New class of workers: How are people working in space treated? Skilled or unskilled?
Relationship between space and Earth: Are resources mined in space and brought back to Earth, or is there a plan to live in space permanently?
What are some new professional niches?
What's the military implication of space exploitation? What new weapons, networks and spying techniques?
Also, consider:
Impact of space travel on food security, gender equality, racial equality
Impact of space travel on education.
Impact of space travel on the entertainment industry. Perhaps shooting monters in space isn't just a virtual thing anymore?
What are some indsutries that decline due to space travel?
I suggest reading up the Economic Impact Report from NASA, and futuristic reports from business consultants like McKinsey.
If space exploitation is a relatiely new technology that not everyone has access to, the workings of the economy will be skewed to benefit large investors and tech giants. As more regulations appear and prices go down, it will be further be integrated into the various industries, eventually becoming a new style of living.

ACOTAR as Political Fiction: Power, Propaganda, and the Politics of War
Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses is often discussed in terms of romance and fantasy, but beneath the magic and love stories lies a deeply political narrative. From court rivalries to warfare, from gendered power structures to propaganda campaigns, ACOTAR is a reflection of how political machinations operate beneath personal dynamics. Maas creates a world where leadership, territorial control, and manipulation of perception are as important—if not more so—than individual relationships. When analyzed from a critical perspective, especially through the rivalry between the Spring and Night Courts, it becomes evident that ACOTAR is not just political, but a story about politics itself.
The foundational structure of the ACOTAR universe is inherently political. Prythian is divided into seven autonomous courts, each governed by a High Lord, functioning like independent nations or sovereign states. Each court has its own power system, culture, military, and geopolitical strategy. Tamlin’s Spring Court, for example, mirrors a traditional monarchy with public councils and border protections, while Rhysand’s Night Court functions more like a closed-off oligarchy, where the Inner Circle operates as an unelected ruling body. These courts engage in diplomacy, espionage, and war, just like real-world nations.
Furthermore, Maas adds additional layers of politics through the human-lands south of the Wall, where the class divide between humans and fae mirrors the political dynamics of colonialism, xenophobia, and racial segregation. The Wall itself acts as a literal political boundary, separating two “nations” that distrust and fear one another, showing how even territorial divisions in ACOTAR are political in nature.
The heart of ACOTAR’s political narrative lies in the ongoing power struggle between the courts, most notably between Tamlin’s Spring Court and Rhysand’s Night Court. What is often interpreted as a personal feud between Tamlin and Rhys is, on a deeper level, a political conflict. Rhysand and his Inner Circle engage in covert operations to destabilize Tamlin’s territory. Feyre’s infiltration of the Spring Court in A Court of Wings and Ruin is a prime example of political sabotage, where the Night Court plants Feyre as a spy under the guise of personal empowerment. Feyre’s actions—spreading chaos, sabotaging defences, and driving Tamlin’s people to rebellion—mirror covert intelligence operations designed to weaken a rival state's internal structure.
This strategy weakens Spring Court militarily and politically, conveniently positioning the Night Court as the leading power in Prythian’s defense against Hybern. It’s no coincidence that while the other courts are fractured, the Night Court consolidates its influence, cloaking its actions in the language of heroism and rebellion. What appears as a romantic or personal arc is, in fact, political warfare disguised as narrative justice.
Rhysand’s Inner Circle represents an insular, unchecked political body. Decisions about the future of Prythian—including how to handle war with Hybern, manipulate the other High Lords, and intervene in Illyrian camps—are made by a small elite group loyal to Rhysand alone. This structure mirrors shadow governments or unelected ruling councils in history, where power is concentrated in the hands of a few who operate above public scrutiny.
In contrast, Tamlin, despite his flaws, governs through more traditional channels, involving wider court discussions and public affairs. His leadership style reflects the burden of monarchy, where he must manage the needs of his people under external pressure and public accountability. While Tamlin faces blame and downfall in the story, it is in part because he lacks the secrecy and propaganda apparatus the Night Court wields so effectively.
Perhaps the most politically charged element of ACOTAR is how the Night Court manipulates perception—both within the story and for the reader. Velaris, hidden away and protected by magical wards, is portrayed as a utopia untouched by Amarantha’s cruelty, but this comes at the political cost of abandoning other territories to suffer. Rhysand and his Inner Circle maintain Velaris’s peace and prosperity by withdrawing from open conflict until it is convenient to re-enter the political landscape.
This mirrors historical instances where powerful states protect their elite cities while leaving outlying regions vulnerable. Meanwhile, the Night Court spreads a narrative of themselves as progressive saviors, winning Feyre—and the reader—over with selective information, much like state propaganda. By contrast, Tamlin, who is left to face Amarantha’s wrath openly and whose people suffer under the curse, is framed as the antagonist despite bearing the visible consequences of war and trauma.
The Night Court’s internal politics also expose further political contradictions. The Illyrians—an ethnic warrior race under Rhysand’s control—are subjected to strict hierarchies, forced breeding programs, and systemic patriarchy, despite the Night Court’s “progressive” image. Rhysand’s half-measures to reform the Illyrian camps highlight how power structures within his own territory remain deeply flawed, reflecting how nations often mask internal injustices while promoting an external image of equality.
Meanwhile, Tamlin’s actions, often criticized as controlling toward Feyre, can also be viewed through the lens of wartime politics, where leaders must sometimes make unpopular decisions to safeguard key political figures (in this case, Feyre, who has become an asset in the larger war against Hybern). Rather than villainy, Tamlin’s behavior reflects the heavy hand of political realism, forced to balance personal emotion with national security.
Finally, Hybern’s invasion of Prythian cements ACOTAR as a book about imperialism and anti-colonial resistance. Hybern operates as a classic imperial power, seeking to subjugate Prythian and the human lands through military conquest and magical dominance. The courts’ eventual unification to fight Hybern in ACOWAR mirrors the formation of political coalitions in times of global threat, echoing alliances formed during major world wars.
Far from being a simple fantasy romance, A Court of Thorns and Roses is deeply entangled in politics at every level—from inter-court rivalries and covert operations to class struggles and gendered power structures. The power struggle between the Spring and Night Courts, the secretive operations of Rhysand’s Inner Circle, the manipulation of Feyre as a political pawn, and the wider war against Hybern all reveal ACOTAR as a political allegory wrapped in fantasy.
The narrative asks readers to interrogate how power operates: who holds it, how it is exercised, and who suffers in the process. When viewed through this lens, ACOTAR becomes a story about political survival, statecraft, and propaganda, where Tamlin, despite his flaws, becomes a symbol of traditional leadership crushed beneath the weight of newer, darker political tactics deployed by the Night Court. In this way, Maas has crafted a world that is as much about political warfare as it is about magic and romance.
All this to say, yes ACOTAR is built on politics, you cannot say "let's not make this political!!" When the very core of the book is democracy and politics.

Please yap away about your new Empyrean series~! I’ve been watching a bunch of videos and reading about Genshin Impact so I can better understand the world and dynamics you’re planning to write about and absolutely fascinated with everything~
Is there a specific dorm you’re looking forward to writing about or possible side arcs/missions in between the MC meeting the different Archons like the events in Twisted Wonderland? Were some of the dorm leaders easier to place as the different Archons elements than others and if so who did you struggle with?
Oh god, where do I even start? How much is too much to say? I don't want to spoil whole parts. I haven't actually written anything for it, but I do certainly have ideas. Ideas that have been accumulating slowly but surely.
Uh, I think first thing's first, none of the TWST cast are going to be just human. How unfair would it be if, say, Riddle was an archon (god) and Ace was just human? Kinda unfair. Which is why all the characters are going to be something else. I'm still figuring some of this part out.
Keep in mind, my knowledge of Genshin Impact extends as far as Inazuma and no further. Anything I know beyond that was through tiktok, that is it. So I'll be taking heavy inspirations from the first three regions.
Pairing the element to a character wasn't too hard actually. So first I focused on the archons, and I looked at the dorm leaders and what they stand for and what type of magic they use.
We know Riddle uses a lot of fire magic based off his SSR Dorm Uniform card. Additionally, the color scheme just went well with his hair color and the roses and all. At first I thought it seemed uncanny, because how could a green region based off of Britain be symbolic of the pyro element? Well, then I considered that since it borders Savanaclaw, it could make sense.
For Leona, I took into account the volcanoes that act as a natural border between his land and Riddle's. Additionally, his unique magic made it a very easy choice. I mean, turning things to sand? Slapping Geo on it and calling it a day.
On Azul's, I was actually torn. I know it seems like an obvious choice of hydro, but listen, at first I actually considered giving Kalim hydro due to his own unique magic. Then I thought maybe Azul would get cryo, but in my mind, leaving the other elements to the remaining characters just didn't make much sense. So, ultimately, Azul won the hydro element.
Giving Kalim the dendro element just happened to coincidentally align with the Sumeru region's main element. I wanted to give Kalim the next best thing if he couldn't have hydro, which was dendro. As I see it as a very "good" element with positive qualities, which he deserves.
Vil was one of the others that gave me trouble when assigning him an element. For a very brief moment, I considered giving him dendro, but that just didn't fit the sort of aesthetic I had in mind for him. Then I remember what his home region is supposed to look like, if it's similar to Epel's, it's snowy, right? So cryo was the next best option. I think it actually fits him well, if I do say so myself.
Idia was the last character to give me trouble. For a while I really was not sure about giving him the anemo element, as he just seemed like the complete opposite of Venti and his ideals. However, the longer I thought about, the more I came to terms with it. Wind doesn't have to mean just freedom. Wind can be very terrifying too, like what we see in Stormterror's Lair which is the sort of aesthetic I imagined when I finally assigned him anemo.
I mean, duh, of course Malleus was getting electro. What else did you expect? I mean, there was a second where I considered giving electro to Idia, but then giving anemo to Malleus didn't sit right with me. Electro was ultimately the best choice for this archon. It's constantly used in the games around him, he has control over it, it just made sense to give him this element.
Any other characters that are not archons will have their elemental type be based off the region they're from. HINT HINT. For example, Riddle may be pyro as he is the archon, but at least one person in Heartslabyul will not have the pyro element.

HELICALTALE MAIN CAST LINEUP!!
(Not ll of the characters but the most important ones to the plot)

‘And now: AU Infodump
BUT BEFORE ANYTHING!!
I will be answering any questions (within reason) any of you have about the au, even if it’s about some random side character only three people have ever heard of before
I live world building and any chance to expand on this world are treasured
I’ll probably answer with fun little doodles as well lol
So ask away :D!!
Basic AU overview:
Helicaltale is NOT a classic based Timeline.
The AU is set in a world where Mt Ebott was destroyed during the war, leaving a desert crater in its place, no protection for the Monsters to retreat and nowhere to seal them underground. In response, the Human mages put a spell on Monster kind, ‘Helios’ Curse’, forcing them to be unable to touch sunlight or else they’d burn (think Vampires or Minecraft Mobs)
The main story takes place 87 years after the war ended and 29 years after friendly communications between the two races begun, with the Monsters settled in a camp like city, made of tents and canvas buildings, around the oasis that formed in the desert that was now known as Ebott crater. Humans and Monsters have achieved peace between the races, regular trading routes and communications set up between the two cities.
Now all that was left was for both Humans and Monsters to find a way to break Helios’ Curse for good.
(None of them can touch Sunlight (minus the humans) but the ones more lightly dressed (Gaster, Alphys, Asgore) all live in the city, with proper buildings not at risk of being blown over at any second so can afford to not be covered up 100% of the time)
Locations:
Ebott City-
The capital city of the country, Ebott is a massive human settlement, overshadowing old ruins left by the war. It’s currently the main base of conferences between human and monster relations.
The Oasis-
The Monster settlement, made from tents and interconnecting canvas sheets, from above it looks like a colourful cluster of a campground, large sheets stretched over the streets. From within it’s only lit by lamps and magic, the sky completely blocked out by tarps and canvas to avoid accidentally getting burned by sunlight, to those not familiar with the city it’s a labyrinth, others, its home.
(A major inspiration for the Oasis is the Kowloon walled city, for those interested in a more accurate visual of the Oasis)
The Great Fence-
While the name conveys grandeur, the fence is a simple chain link fence acting as the border around the entire Oasis, topped with barbed wire and adorned with tarps, it’s designed to protect the residents against wild animals like Coyotes and be a barrier against sandstorms more than it is to keep people out, one of the most regular jobs for the Royal guard other than being general peace keepers is to uphold the fence, often sending patrols out after heavy storms to keep everything in order.
Central Oasis-
A mix between Newhome and Waterfall, it’s the main hub of the town, the Royal family living there along with the majority of schools and recreational areas, most Water based monsters (ie: Shyren, Aaron ect ect) also live in this area, a large lake of water being the centerpiece of the city.
Lights district-
To the west side of the city is the main shopping hub, while much more open than the majority of the Oasis, many stores foregoing walls on their tents entirely, its full of stores and restaurants, the most well known being Grillby’s and Muffets joint restaurant, many visitors to the Oasis come for the night life of the lights district, the monsters that live in that area making the camp around them as flashy and attractive as possible, neon lights and dancing flames lighting up the darkness of the district, the Celebrities Mettaton and Nabstablook have also been alluded to frequent the region and perform for onlookers.
Sandbank-
The Snowden equivalent of the AU, having gotten its name due to its position at the east side of the city, being the least protected by the walls of the crater, Sandbank often gets the brunt of the sandstorms that hit the desert, leading many of the Royal Guards live in this area in case of an emergency during the storms.
Southside (the Black Market)-
Technically not its official name, the Southside of the Oasis is whispered about in the dark of night, rumours telling of an illegal market place and shady monsters working in the south, many a monster wandering in and never coming out. While most likely just old wives tales, its best you keep your distance, just in case.
(Yeah I made the Black Market an actual real marketplace because that will never not be funny to me)
Hotlands-
The north most section of the Oasis is best known as Hotlands, given the name as it’s the highest section of city but also the most shielded by the crater walls, leaving it boiling without any wind to seep out the heat’. There’s been speculation that Hotlands actually sits over an underground chamber of magma, adding to the blistering temperature.
Characters:
The Dreemurrs:
Frisk- (Any Pronouns)
Frisk is an 11 year old kid, a runaway from one of Ebott City’s Orphanages, known for its less than legal treatment of the children. Having joined Chara as the eldest helped them both escape, Frisk followed Chara into the desert, looking for shelter from CPS.
During the trek however Frisk falls sick with an illness, most common in Monsters but able to infect anyone with strong magic, called Icarus syndrome.
With Icarus syndrome being effectively Hyperthermia of the soul, any physical treatment is ineffective, needing a particular medication to have any hope of survival, leaving the crater as not just refuge but possibly their only chance of survival.
Chara- (They/Them)
Chara is 16 and the orchestrator of the escape from the Orphanage with Frisk, after having been in contact online with a kid from the Monster camp that offered assistance. During the escape Frisk fell ill, forcing Chara to locate and purchase the rare medicine. Ending up in the Monster equivalent of the black market, Chara found a monster begrudgingly willing to help, trading a magical glass eye, a prosthetic their grandfather made for both humans and monsters during the war, for a small vial of medicine. The trader warning them to keep out of the black market before dropping the two kids off safely at the center of the Oasis.
Asriel- (He/Him)
Asriel is the firstborn son of the Dreemurrs and heir to the Royal throne, at 16 he made contact and became friends with a kid online, the other telling him of the danger they and their sibling were in at the Orphanage. Quickly offering up his home, knowing both his parents had fostered and cared for many children in the past and wouldn’t turn away two more. Upon meeting them in the Oasis he makes fast friends with both Frisk and Chara, practically adopting them as siblings on the spot.
Toriel- (She/Her)
Queen of the Oasis at 143 years old, Toriel has seen her fair share of bloodshed and peacetime, giving her the knowledge to recognise that protecting young children is the best way to ensure their future, guiding them to Mercy and pragmatic solutions instead of Fighting. One of the first things she did after Monsters had finally settled into the Oasis being starting up a school, becoming the primary teacher for a good few years before other parents eventually began to join her staff. Though, with the two new children her son had brought to her doorstep, she’s begun to realise it’s not just the children of Monster kind that need protection.
Asgore- (He/Him)
King of the Oasis and 146 years old, Asgore grew up at the front lines of the war, the heinous acts shaping him into the pacifist he is today. Currently away from the Oasis, Asgore has turned his sights on communications with the Humans, staying at the city while conferences with the city leaders on trade routes and transportation commence. He is also overseeing the Monster half of the Science team, working closely with the Royal Advisor and Scientists Gaster in developing a cure to Helios’ Curse. He remains in frequent contact with the Oasis, making the trip back every weekend to see his now growing family and make sure Toriel isn’t overwhelmed with responsibilities.
-
The Fonts:
Dr. Gaster- (He/Him)
At 140, Gaster has spent his life developing weapons for war (the Gaster Blaster being his pride and joy) and perseverance for Monster Kind, having a massive distaste for all Humans and most Monsters. The sudden change from war efforts to restoration efforts throwing his life in disarray. Jumping at the chance to use Human equipment on government funded experiments, Gaster didn’t hesitate to leave his sons Sans and Papyrus (9 and 4 at the time) back at the Oasis to move to the city and begin work. He’s had a hand in creating many inventions helping Monster kind (both helping with the medicine for Icarus Syndrome and a magic Sunscreen that can briefly minimise the effects of the sun) and the head of the Selene Project, the project to break the curse.
Sans- (He/Him)
28 and thriving, Sans has made a name for himself as both the comedic slacker of the Royal guard and the savvy businessman as one of the Black Markets best traders. Having been forced to raise both himself and Papyrus from a young age, Sans became intwined with the black market at the age of 12, after Papyrus caught Icarus Syndrome and receiving no help from Gaster off in the city, Sans was forced to find his own way of getting medication. At the age of 12 he found his way into the black market, ending up trading his right eye, and subsequently some of his shortcut abilities with an underground doctor in exchange for the medicine, to this day he hasn’t told anyone what happened to his eye. From then on he found himself going back and getting into trading as a way of making money as a side job while both he and Papyrus worked to get into the Royal guard, quickly becoming infamous in the criminal world of the Oasis, though he had a rule that no kids were to ever be found trading in the market. A rule that quickly got broken when a young human kid stumbled into his shop, begging for help, offering a magic glass eye as payment. Unable to send the kid off without help (or turn down the irony of selling the meds for an eye) he made the trade before guiding the kid and their sibling to the Oasis center.
-
(Bonus:)
After dropping the kids off, Sans makes an attempt to use the prosthetic eye, yet upon fitting it into his socket, the magic activated and bonded with his soul, causing the eye to become fused with his being, immovable. Along with the eye he’s suddenly able to see things he, by all means, should NOT be able to see, including text bubbles from the creators (similar to error sans)
He also finds, magically in his pocket, a small golden key, only figuring out its use after stumbling across a door in the middle of nowhere, upon using the key on the door he finds himself in an entirely different AU, door closing and disappearing behind him.
This is what leads him to discover the Multiverse and travel between AUs (inconveniently ending up in Nightmares Castle more times than he’d care to count)
-
Papyrus- (He/Him)
The Great Papyrus, second in command of the Royal guard at the younge age of 23 (you may applaud now)
Having grown up with just himself and Sans, Papyrus always wanted to become something great to make his brother proud, despite Sans’ insistence that he’s already proud of him. When he was 13, while Sans was out getting food, Papyrus had been targeted and hunted down by a group of bullies from the Southside of town, the group of teens taking turns in beating him up, eventually escalating to the point where one of them pulled a mirror from their pocket and used it to reflect a beam of sun directly onto his face, leaving a permanent scar,
He was saved however, when a teen he recognised from the Oasis center came charging out from one of the nearby tents, picking up handfuls of sand and hurtling it at the other kids before beating them up with her fists alone. Once over, the girl had turned, helped Papyrus up and took him to see her grandfather, the current head of the Royal Guard, a job she loudly proclaimed she was going to have one day,
Ever since then he attempted and eventually got into the Royal guard, along with Sans and the teen, Undyne.
-
Gersons:
Undyne- (She/Her)
29, Captain of the Royal Guard, Wife of the best woman around, living the high life! Having been raised by her grandfather Gerson for longer than she could remember, she’s always looked up to the Royal Guard, no matter how her Grandfather told her it wasn’t all glory. She’d been sneaking out and training with one of the Royal Guards for 8 years by the time she was 19, stumbling across a fight, six of her classmates beating down on a young skeleton. She’d jumped to defense before she’d even registered it, helping the kid up and getting him patched up where eventually the kids brother, Sans, one of Alphys’ friends found them and thanked her profusely.
The three became fast friends, practically siblings, both of them there at her and Alphys’ wedding and her promotion to Captain of the Royal guard.
Alphys- (She/They)
27 and already one of the best Scientists in the whole country. Alphys’ having grown up in Hotlands would have never dared to dream she’d be working with a whole team of like minded scientists, especially not in the human city, though not being able to see her Wife as often was a dampener. Dr. Gaster was also a bit, overzealous, with the project, it was only a matter of time before the madman created some temporal superflux that blew up half the block, even if she wouldn’t be anywhere near as prestigious without his guidance, despite Sans’ reservations for letting them near him.
(I will be adding more to this AU btw, it’s in my top 3 faves lmao)
Bonus:

This is the Vaults of Vaarn deluxe edition (2022), which collects material originally published in the first three Vaults of Vaarn zines by Leo Hunt. It is essentially a setting toolkit, but one that operates withing a set of clear aesthetic boundaries.
Vaarn is a post-human world — people are still around, but, they aren’t really recognizable as human anymore. The line between organics and machines is blurry. Ruined arcologies dot the desert. Petty gods and magic compete with science. It’s a very strange, very exciting world defined primarily through random tables that generate the things you find and the folks you encounter in the wasteland. The only conventionally firm details in the book accompany the character types (True-Kin, Synths, Newbeasts, Mycomorphs and Cacogen), some description of the city Gnomon and the handful of example adventure sites. Beyond those borders, Vaarn is infinitely mutable.
The game’s influences are quite focused, to the point that I feel like the era of the game is meant to be considered a late point on a timeline that includes the events of the Dune novels and Wolfe’s New Sun novels — there are archlictors and massive AI gods (all dead, thankfully) and other features that seem like direct references. There’s stuff firmly outside those novels too (what NPCs we encounter feel peculiarly Gormenghast-y; they are also accompanied by advice on how to run them as friends or villains, which is a nice feature).
Vaarn was conceived for Knave, but there is not a ton of system specific material here; you can honestly adapt it to just about any D&D-derived system, lite or otherwise. And you should! Vaarn is the most exciting world to come out of indie RPGs since the Ultraviolet Grasslands.

oh, paw-lease!
fandom ## hazbin hotel (dog-sinner reader)
characters ## charlie morningstar, vaggie, alastor, angel-dust, husker, lucifer morningstar
prompt ## it would seem a new sinner has arrived at the hotel, sporting a set of bouncy ears and an eagerly swaying tail. how will this new canine companion fit into the dynamics of the hazbin hotel?
contains ## SHOW SPOILERS, gender-neutral reader, canon-typical character behaviours/habits, reader is annoyingly bubbly but in a puppy-dog way, reader is gen z, no one in this show is morally good (obviously), NO ROMANCE, autistic-coded lucifer, fan theories are used, stereotypical 'dog' characteristics, brief mention of valentino (cringe)
masterlist part two potential - open to writing for more characters
when you first arrived at the hotel, you were pretty much fresh-meat in hell, and definitely of a different generational variety to the other residents (much to their confusion and mutual horror).
charlie welcomes you to the hotel with open arms and a huge smile - and everyone is blinded by the two balls of sunshine chatting happily in the doorway. vaggie convinces her to let you in, and you settle into the hotel extremely well.
you get along well with everyone... well, nearly everyone!
CHARLIE MORNINGSTAR
for obvious reasons, charlie adores you - your bubbly nature sharply contrasts the mellowed nature of husker, the over-the-top nature of nifty and the sneakiness that alastor maintains
but charlie isn't stupid and she obviously knows you're down here for one sinful reason or another, so she doesn't think you're harmless...
no matter how much that fluffy tail thumps against the floor, YOU ARE NOT HARMLESS
she enjoys using you as the focus point of redemption exercises - mainly because most of the residents like/are indifferent to you, and you just like everyone
planned a group fetch session one time, ended up with you passed out in the entryway the second they entered the hotel
you are her therapy dog sinner at this point, whenever she feels like she's bordering a panic attack you just poof magically appear and comfort her - using some very interesting jokes (gen z humour is honestly more traumatising than comforting, but it works in charlie's case), and allowing her to play with your tail and ears.
bought you tons of squeaky toys...
overall, is extremely happy you arrived at the hotel, and wouldn't change you for the world
VAGGIE
vaggie enjoys your presence - especially considering you seem to be about as sane as you can be, considering you're in hell and you're a sinner
like, she can have an intelligent conversation with you and then NOT feel the sudden urge to smash her head into the nearest wall (*cough* alastor *cough*)
you're her excuse to get out of the hotel, even if it's for five minutes
"i need to walk the dog" type excuse - you go along with it, because like... who doesn't enjoy walks?
despite you being a sinner, you have a lot of dog features - it's honestly hard to tell you were ever even human once upon a time, under all that fluff and fur - and you LOVE those shitty little squeaky dog toys
vaggie hates those squeaky dog toys
definitely hides them around the hotel so you can't find them
too bad you've got a sensitive sniffer and find them everytime
you stayed outside hers and charlie's room the first time she hid them, obnoxiously squeaking the toy just to be petty and kept her awake
now you just enjoy it looking for the toys, it's like a game
overall, vaggie enjoys your company - you can be very energetic and sometimes overwhelming, but you can be equally as soft and silent
she thinks she wouldn't mind you hanging around for a little while longer
ALASTOR
alastor can't stand you.
you're a dog, he HATES dogs - for many obvious reasons, of course
not that you've explicitly done anything to him, so he tolerates you - just keep an adequate distance between the two of you, and you'll be just peachy
overtime, you become accustomed to the fact that alastor will probably never like you - and you definitively become softer around him in order to accommodate to his needs
you don't necessarily know WHY he doesn't like you, but the way his eyes shift tell you that he's uncomfortable
you soften your tone of voice, make all of your movements extremely predictable and slow, and make sure to keep your pesky tail in check
overtime, this 'submissive' tactic (it's not really, but it's better to say that than to say alastor is fearful of this cheery little puppy) begins to break down alastor's carefully crafted walls
the first breakthrough was when alastor invited you to go to the library with him - you had to physically hold your tail down as it began wagging excitedly
you guys sat in the library for hours, mere inches apart from each other - your tail softly thumping against the couch, and the soft static of alastor's radio filling the air as you both read your respective books
you guys cook together (more like he cooks and you just watch excitedly, having no thoughts behind those beady puppy-dog eyes) - you have so many questions, and he answers each one with endless patience, and tells you you're a 'good dog' whenever you hand him a kitchen tool he needs
you love being called a good dog :3
overall, he's not used to you yet - but he's getting there
complete avoidance has turned into greetings, light touches here and there, and invitations to join him in his endeavours
i'd say that's a job well done
ANGEL DUST
angel had a temporary urge to taint your giddiness - it didn't last long, but long enough that the guilt of it eats him alive most days
but he adores you, and you quickly become fast friends - you act as an escape from his job, your personality so contrasting from his day-to-day
angel buys you tons of cute outfits, most of which contain chokers or pendants after you expressed that you used to wear them when you were alive - and wearing them brings you a strange sense of comfort
definitely got you a charm that said 'if lost, call angel dust xxx-xxx' and hooked it onto a little doggy collar as a gag gift
you still wore it though, and he just became absolute putty at the way your tail wagged
angel sometimes wakes up to you curled up at his side, with fat nuggets mirroring you on his other side - he doesn't mind, he actually loves the fact that he's your first comfort-call
no one snitch, but he wraps all of his arms around you and your tail thumps softly against the comforter in your sleep
in regards to angel's job, you're extremely understanding - hell is hell, and people get by in different ways
but you are FIERCELY protective of your newly found friend
in the episode where angel stands up to valentino for nifty's sake, you are trembling at husker's side - not out of fear, but out of pure anger and the desire to protect your own
however, when valentino lays hands on your precious friend? you're between them in seconds, teeth bared, ears flat against your scalp and low rumbling growls coming from your mouth
you make it very apparent you are no bark and all bite when valentino tries to bypass you to approach angel, snapping your jaws at him, and watch with mixed triumph and disgust as the moth-man scoffs and turns away
as soon as valentino is no longer in 'threat' distance, you turn to help angel to his feet - no words needed, and simply pressed your cold snout to his cheek as you felt his trembling hands in yours
from that day onwards, you pick angel up from work everyday without fail - even if it means sprinting across pentagram city just to get there on time
your consistent presence discourages valentino from keeping angel overnight, which fills you with pride - at least you rattled the fugly moth during your last encounter
overall, you're best friends - angel would burn the world for you, and you'd do the same for him, and that mutual respect for one another makes you a force to be reckoned with
you'd be surprised at how downright dirty the 'innocent' little pup could get when with the spider
HUSKER
frenemies through and through - but it's more like one-sided frenemies, because you simply have no enemies (except valentino. fuck you valentino.)
you and husker were not close AT ALL when you first arrived at the hotel, and instead opted for the stereotypical dog-cat relationship... a relationship built on pure contempt just for each others species, and spent a good portion of the first few days growling and hissing at one another
so, how did you two become fast friends considering your clear hate?
you.
you did the one thing that proved to husker you understood how cats functioned...
you brought him a mouse!
a dead one. a dead hell mouse.
now, to everyone else in the hotel, the display was disgusting - and several of them scrambled away from the bar with shrill screams - but, to husker, it was a sign of peace
and, from that point onwards, you became friends
that's literally it
husker wouldn't mention it to anyone, but he is an absolute cuddle bug - and having you, someone with no regard for personal space, around and jumping into hugs actually soothed his stolen soul
oftentimes, you two are found comfortably lounging on the couch - limps tangled together (and tails coiled around each others)
the two of you have a habit of falling into your more animalistic urges when it's just the two of you - so mutual grooming is not uncommon, and you've woken up several times to husker's tongue dragging across your head
he definitely pretends it doesn't happen after, but you both know
you make sure to return the favour, much to his distress - considering you just kind of... slobber, everywhere
when you two fight though it's actually vicious - biting, scratching, clawing, etc. absolutely scaring the hell out of everyone
but then after like two minutes you two are like "well, that was fun!"
husker is ultimately more playful in your presence, but he's still grumpy and if he asks you to go away - you will listen, because you understand not everyday is a cuddle day
overall, husker hate-loves you - you're a solid consistent in his day-to-day afterlife now, and he can actively become more relaxed with you around... and whilst that's why he loves you, it's also why he hates you, because you make him weak
LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR
lucifer has definitely hyperfixated on several animals during all of his years in heaven and hell - so i have no doubt he hyperfixated on dogs, or some kind of canine, at one point
and you're about as humanoid-ly doggy as it gets, or as humanoid-ly doggy as he's seen
and when you show interest in his hyperfixation on ducks, you instantly become his new favourite sinner at the hotel - although you enjoy ducks simply for dog-related reasons, you also enjoy how happy lucifer seems to get when speaking about them
you make a note to yourself to never harm another duck in your entire afterlife
with lucifer being autistic, and you seemingly having adhd qualities, you perfectly compliment each other
your friendship is the definition of "he asked for no pickles" with a tiny lucifer all teary eyed in the background
after lilith left, lucifer has had difficulty in maintaining his wings - and, much to his displeasure, you walked in on him trying to preen them, and struggling to reach the harder to get places
i mean, he has 6 wings, i wouldn't look after them either
but when you offer to help, he melts - guiding and directing you on what to do and what not to do, smiling adoringly at the look of concentration on your face and the way you stick your tongue out the corner of your mouth
as a reward, he preens you in return, expressing his thanks through the subtle gesture
preening is a sign of affection with birds, and i feel he would give into those mannerisms the more he hyperfixates on ducks
overall, lucifer absolutely adores you - and although the goal for the hotel is to redeem sinners, he lowkey hopes you're never redeemed
he'd simply miss you too much
and he definitely treats you like a little kid sometimes (theoretically, you are the youngest, generationally...)

Hello and thank you for this blog! Do you have fanfictions where Crowley and Aziraphale (and maybe Jesus) go together on a roadtrip? It doesn't have to be with Jesus, normal roadtrip fic is alright! (I hope the fics would be over 10k words)
Thank you!!
Hi! Here are some road trip fics for you...
Do You Yearn The Way I Do? by leporidaecervinae (E)
A lonely desert road is a meditation's best friend. Aziraphale and Crowley are not talking. Not properly. Armageddon has been averted for a second, and final time. It takes a road trip, and a trip through cosmic uncertainty to investigate exactly why things are left unsaid. The Crooked Roost signals shelter, a safe harbour, and a solution to problems the pair haven't realised they've had yet. For Aziraphale and Crowley, finding their way back to stability is going to entail processing, whether they want it or not. Consent can not be granted when the psyche has not yielded. The ego must be dismantled in order to achieve truth.
Burning Through the Sky by ausgezeichnet (T)
Crowley, panic-stricken about the end of the world, flees into space in defiance of god and gravity, but Aziraphale won’t let him leave so easily. Will Crowley make the brave choice, and turn back to fight alongside Aziraphale for the planet that has become their home? Or: Crowley and Aziraphale go on a very strange road trip. Hijinks ensue.
Pray for Plagues (To Come Down on this Egypt) by A_J_Crowley, veganthranduil (M)
A couple of miles short of the Romanian border, Aziraphale regained consciousness again for a while. “Whose car is this?” He asked. “Someone else’s,” Crowley forced out between gritted teeth. OR how busting your boyfriend out of Heaven and the subsequent escape across the continent might ruin your day, week, and month.
Lonely Planet by Eighty_Sixed (G)
Aziraphale and Crowley go on a road trip to find God. What they find are a magic book, scared relics, dancing mystics, sublime mountaintops, several nice restaurants, and some insights into the human condition. Also, God. Eventually.
My Heart is in Ohio by smokeythewizard (M)
Seven years after assuming the position of Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale is no closer to thwarting the Second Coming despite his efforts in Heaven, until the day he receives a cryptic note from Hell's head office. The End Times have officially begun and the angel and demon are forced into an American roadtrip to save the world.
Part III: Not Single Spies by beardo (E)
A man with pale hair turns up in Saint Peter's Square, naked and without memory, and Crowley's old sense of Aziraphale's location snaps like a twig. Heaven is down another Supreme Archangel—but the new Christ is already on Earth (in France, to be precise) and the Second Coming is well underway. And Crowley works for Hell now, but really, he works for the good of humanity; pulling on every friend he has to stop the end of the world. Everything comes to a head with a delivery van, a flaming sword, a road trip, a prophecy, a wheat field and a miracle of rather significant proportions. NB The E-rating only applies to a small number of sections, and they're all clearly marked and skippable. The rest of the fic is T.

A Dark Alternative: Chapter 39

Summary: In a world where the border between Xadia and the human lands never truly existed, humans and elves live along side each other, but not together. Years ago, Callum made an unlikely friend, one he thought long lost to time.
By chance, their paths cross again, but considering how much they’ve both changed, is it possible to rekindle their friendship?
Or have their differences become too much to overcome?
Pairing: Rayla/Callum
Rating: Mature
AO3 Link: A Dark Alternative
“You and your dirt.” Soren laughed, winking at Rayla.
Callum felt his stomach clench at the sight, though he was happy to see Rayla barely react, beyond a quick blink of surprise.
“Yeah, me and my dirt.” Callum took the insult, just wanting this conversation to end. Maybe he could steer it round to the primal stone and pretend to be focused on that. “Em, your Dad said you had the primal stone?” He glanced at Claudia, trying to appear interested. Which he had been, but the whole thing with Rayla was occupying far more of his thoughts than even magic.
“Oh, yeah.” She reached into her bag, pulling out a dark sphere and holding it out for Callum to take. “I’ve got a book of runes too, but you’ll probably need to speak to one of the council members to get them translated. I know my way around most elven languages but a lot of the ones in there are pretty obscure.”
“What about Ebarna?” Soren raised his eyebrows, grinning at Callum.
“Who?” Claudia asked, heaving a large book onto the table.
“Ebarna, a sky elf Callum spent all night cozying up to,” Soren smirked, leaning back in his chair.
“Soren, that- No, I wasn’t.” Callum felt his gut twist, eyes darting to Rayla as the primal stone flashed and glowed in his hands. “She offered to help me with magic and runes and stuff.”
