One of the most human and relatable storylines in The Crown was based on an actual royal showdown between the real Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

The royal couple's argy-bargy was said to have occurred during their Australian tour in 1954, as reported by The Crown’s historian Robert Lacey.

Their row was allegedly caught on camera. According to author Ingrid Seward, a TV crew were secretly filming the chalet where the Queen and her husband were staying.

As shown in the episode, any footage of their argument is unlikely to exist. The film clip was handed over to the Queen, for which she thanked the crew personally.

Because why else haven't the things the media discovered in 2016 been published (like her debts, her addictions, her real connections to Soho House, her Flim Flam business and all her trademark/copyright applications)?

Once Harry says he's done with her, all bets are off and the dirt is going to fly.

Nothing reputation destroying will be exposed once H&M divorce because the media will be too busy making money off both of them. Previous hints of things doesn't mean the media will turn on her in the future. It'll just be the next stage of the Meghan show, they'll reveal enough to get people angry but they won't destroy her. The media will probably play along with Charles' rehab of Harry but they want a divorce war that can make them as much money as they can. The time for the real dirt to be exposed was the dating stage but Charles wanted a mixed race member of the family and Harry probably already played the race card in private. The BRF could have publicly destroyed any chance of Meghan becoming a member of the BRF without harming themselves but they were too busy placating the spolit brat that Harry is. If they had done it then public opinion would've been with the BRF, the late Queen could've said Harry can marry her but he'd have to give up his title and place in the succession. If the real Meghan was known no one in the UK/Commonwealth would want her being a part of the BRF. By the time they divorce some may want everything on Meghan to be made public but the UK media won't want to return to mostly drama free BRF reporting and internationally no cares. Now she's the mother of two of King Charles' grandchildren, whatever happens between her and Harry in the future doesn't matter, the children are her shield. The time for exposing the real dirt has been and gone.

This isn’t a quiet little royal divorce. It’s gonna be a messy celebrity divorce.

The media won’t have to do anything. Harry and Meghan will do all the dirty work for them. They’ll just recap it all and stir the pot.

They both have addiction issues.

So the dirt is coming. It may not be the media that exposes it, but they’re definitely going to publish it. They’ll publish it all and they’ll stir the pot to keep it coming.

A Very Royal Scandal review: Rises above Scoop with a more thoughtful take

The question is, and certainly should be, does it measure up in its own right, as both a piece of drama and an exploration of this period in recent history?

However, because of Scoop's success earlier this year, there is also another question out there, one I'm sure the team behind would prefer wasn't the centre of attention - how do the two compare?

On this front, A Very Royal Scandal actually comes out favourably, as the superior telling of this story. While Scoop was ably performed and highly watchable, it also felt somewhat surface-level - an adaptation which failed to get under the skin of its characters, or examine the events it was depicting.

The grand total of Scoop's exploration was seemingly an assertion of the power of journalism - a perfectly fine assessment, but not particularly surprising or noteworthy. A large amount of that film's intrigue came from its picture-perfect recreations of real-life individuals, images and videos, particularly the interview itself.

A Very Royal Scandal, on the other hand, partly by dint of its extended runtime, is more interested in both the inner lives of its two central figures, Maitlis and Andrew, as well as the limitations of journalism, and the wider impact of a one-hour, on-camera conversation.

It tells its story across three episodes, and three distinct chapters. The first focuses on the build-up to the interview, much as Scoop did. It feels fairly familiar.

The second focuses primarily on the interview itself and the surrounding days. Again, not dissimilar to the Netflix film.

The third is where this show deviates, as it follows its central figures in the days, weeks, months and indeed years following the interview.

This third episode is by far and away the strongest, in part because it's traversing new terrain, but also because of the complexity of its discussion.

In focusing in on the lives of Andrew, Maitlis and others after the interview, it isn't afraid to examine the downsides, as well as the up. It isn't simply a celebratory lap around for Wilson's Maitlis, nor is Sheen's Andrew villainised.

Instead, the duo both, in their own ways, struggle to come to terms with exactly what has happened, or how they should feel about it.

In truth, that is the case throughout the series, even in between the more mocking and satirical scenes, pricking Sheen's Andrew's pomposity. There is an emotional rawness to the characters, and an interest in the personal, beyond the professional or political, which was largely lacking in Netflix's version.

The cast are unsurprisingly impressive. Sheen does a typically assured job as Prince Andrew, getting laughs when he needs to, provoking outrage when it is called for and appearing a tragic figure, all without externally making a call on his motivations, truths or untruths.

It's a role that Sewell excelled in and brought to life effectively in Scoop, but the additional runtime affords Sheen and the writers the opportunity to delve more into the character's psyche and his relationships with those around him. [...]

A Very Royal Scandal (2024) Review: A Royal’s Fall from Grace

Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson give two knockout performances that are buried under convoluted character development and a refusal to definitely cast a character in an entirely good or entirely bad light which ultimately leaves them in no man’s land rather than paints them as complex beings. While Maitlis was an executive producer on the show, the series could have greatly benefitted from the inclusion of more female collaborators to tell a story that relies so heavily on the power of women using their voices.

I’d crawl over harsh terrain to see Sheen and Wilson in just about anything. After AVRS I felt I had. His chameleonic power seems muted, while her attempt to capture Maitlis’s grave diction makes the broadcaster sound glutinously smug. There are nice turns from Joanna Scanlan as Andrew’s hapless secretary Amanda Thirsk and a bouncy Claire Rushbrook as Fergie. As factotum Sir Edward Young, Alex Jennings is so dry you fear he’ll blow away.

A Very Royal Scandal Is an Actor’s Showcase that Interrogates Media’s Most Famous Train Wreck

[...] Wilson’s portrayal of Maitlis focuses on the tensions between the hard-hitting journalist and the real person: her genuine desire to hold the powerful to account, her struggles to be taken seriously in a man’s world despite all her professional success, her attempt to balance her marriage and family with a career in the public eye. But her performance is a generally restrained one. Sheen has a bit more freedom in his interpretation of the prince, given that much of the show’s assumptions about Andrew’s relationships and state of mind are made up out of whole cloth, and he navigates a delicate balance of fact and fiction throughout. 

His portrayal of Andrew is perhaps more thoughtful than the man himself truly deserves, as Sheen presents the disgraced royal as almost laughably out of touch and fully oblivious in the way that only the very rich and extremely well-connected can ever really manage. Having never faced anything like consequences or accountability for his actions, Sheen’s Andrew often seems genuinely startled to discover that he could, and even his most delusional statements—such as claiming he can’t sweat or that there’s no way he could be expected to remember every woman he’s been with, sexually speaking—are made with the sort of absolute belief that only comes from spending an entire life never once being told you’re wrong. 

It’s a performance that is often difficult to watch for all the right reasons, if only because Sheen makes it so easy to see how this self-involved, self-interested man has sailed through life considering nothing but his own desires and never, ever paying for the consequences of his choices. He finds genuine bits of humanity in Andrew’s relationship with his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as his obsessive insecurity about his place within the hierarchy of the royal family. It’s not a sympathetic portrayal, by any stretch, but it is a surprisingly layered one. 

Where Scoop often comes across as cheerleading for the practice of journalism in general and as it’s practiced at the BBC specifically, A Very Royal Scandal opts for a more thoughtful approach, asking what, if any, good this interview actually did. [...]

Jake Paul knocks out Andre August in the first-round

Orlando, Fla. - At the Caribe Royale Resort, the man people love to hate, Jake Paul (8-1, 5 KOs), returned to the squared circle in front of a sold-out crowd. The famous social media influencer entertained his loyal fans in attendance, dancing to the ring to Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.' Right behind him, there was a giant robot humanoid waving to the crowd.

But this turned out to be just the appetizer as Paul delivered another stunning knockout inside the ring.

Paul's opponent, Andre August (10-2-1, 5 KOs), is a three-time Golden Gloves champion, and the Houston, Texas native is the second boxer Paul has faced. August wasn't a former mixed martial artist, fellow YouTube star, or a former NBA player. He has been a professional boxer since 2013. Although almost ten years older than Paul at 35, August was thought to be able to at least test the loquacious star's skillset, however long the fight lasted.

Unfortunately for August, but to the excitement of the crowd in attendance, Paul secured a highlight-reel first-round knockout. After a tense few minutes, filled with counter-punching and jab exchanges, Paul picked up on August's tendency to duck before throwing. A feint by Paul set up a right uppercut that firmly put August down for the count. No count was needed.

Paul's previous knockout came in December 2021 in a rematch with Tyron Woodley at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. Since then, he has gone the distance against the likes of Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tommy Fury. August was likely picked for a reason, and the victory shouldn't be overly celebrated. In the night’s co-main event, Shadasia Green (13-1, 11 KOs) battled former undisputed super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurnn (9-2, 2 KOs). The bout was for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. Green came out to wrestling legend The Undertaker’s theme music but did not fight with a sense of urgency. Grateful for having the opportunity to go to the Daman beach and enjoy the beauty of it. The beautiful sunset, the waves flowing, people enjoying camel & horse rides, engaging in some water sports. What a day it was, My nephew, Reyansh made the most of it. I did my meditation sitting on the boundary of the waves. Too good and beautiful of a day. We also went to Haldiram's Vapi where I had the yummy Raj Khachori, mother had Dahi Puri, sis had Veg Momos whereas Reyansh had French Fries. The beauty of nature, beaches, mountains is immense, and we just have to be very much grateful to have that opportunity. I consider myself to be so much lucky, blessed and grateful. Today, I played FIFA 22 on PS5 manager mode, where I am managing Real Madrid CF. We sit at the top of the table in LaLiga and through to the knockout rounds in UCL. I also washed my Crocs, did meditation, had grapes, mango shake, now writing this gratitude journal, wathcing my beloved Rajasthan Royals where Jaiswal is on a carnage. 1 V 1 Research

The reason i am making my game a 1v1 is for multiple reasons first the 1v1 creates a balanced and truly fair environment for the fight to take place with no extra stimulus to alter the fight such as third partying, a common practice in battle royale games where a third party will get involved in a 1 (team) v 1 (team) fight and cleaning up the already injured participants catching them off guard. This creates a natural unfairness in the playing field as one team gets the edge of surprise while the others are stuck in the middle giving this strategy not much skill to accomplish. So the 1v1 environment allows for more reliance on skill and talent with the game. Another reason I chose it was because it is one of the oldest formats to date with games like boxing and chess it really allows you to breakdown an opponent.

Gladiator

In comparison to the depictions we see in fiction gladiators were always random enslaved death fighting but instead more volunteering people looking for local stardom, like a sport today. This doesn't mean gladiators didn't die, they would constantly fight with actual weaponry against fierce opponents which could range from large animals to convicted criminals, which usually resulted in a gladiatorial death every 5-10 bouts.

Card Games are one of the most ancient forms of games with tones of variations of ways to play with a lot of the being 1v1 duels.

Gin rummy is probably the most famous card game out there with it mostly being played in a 1v1 situation. To play you shuffle the deck and deal each person 7 cards and your goal is to get groups of either 4,3 or 7 made up of sets and or runs. Sets are a collection of the same face cards so for example 4 kings and runs are cards that are in an order but of the same suit e.g 4,5,6,7 of hearts. You assemble these hands by either taking one card off the deck and swap it out with a card in your hand or do the same with the top of the discard pile.

Within warzone, Call of Duty's Battle Royale game mode, their is a minigame that let's you respawn if you die. You are given a minimalist loadout with 1 weapon an 2 pieces of ordnance to kill your enemy with, if however you take too long a juggernaut will come into kill you and you both can win by killing him.

Penalty Shootout

A football ultimatum, the penalty shootout happens if after 120 minutes of regular football and added extra time of play has still resulted in a draw they decide it with the best of 5 penalties. Each team takes 5 pens one after each other where they are not allowed to touch the ball more than once if after the 5 penalties the teams are still tied it goes to a sudden death.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat originally developed in 1992 is a multi-media fighting and martial arts franchise consisting of 3 movies, 11 main line games and 4 spin off games. The main point of the original game was a 1v1 best of 3 fighting game that had you face of against a varsity of characters with different move sets, finishers and personality. The game however is not a desirable concept to me as it is set on the 2d plane and i want my project to utilise movement a lot on the 3d plane.

Street Fighter

Street fighter, the famous Capcom franchise, initially released its first game to arcade machines in 1987 with a pretty similar premise to Mortal Kombat (it came first). Now with the 6th game in the series releasing in 2023 the name has became a gaming staple with it receiving a 1994 movie adaptation.

Smash Bros

Smash bros is a game consisting of the a lot of the characters owned by multi-media franchise Nintendo. The most recent one being the vastest one to date, "Ultimate" Released in 2018 with 76 base characters and received consistent DLCs up to 89 characters.

It is another 2d fighter however it adds an element of platforming into it with the fighting stage navigate able vertically as well allowing a lot more movement paths and tactics to happen also in comparison to the last 2 games it has a lot more attacks and moves that you can perform to knock your opponent off of the stage. Each player as three lives and their can be up to 8 players so last standing wins.

King of Fighters

A game franchise initially developed and released in 1994 the games are practically identical to other games in the genre basic sets of moves like kicks, punches and blocks with a large ability to do tons of damage. A unique fighting game in comparison to other 2d games on this list it consist of 2 players fencing and attempting to reach the opponents side of the map when you they're killed. You kill your opponent by simply hitting them once also in the move set you can block, disarm and jump. The game is a much more simple and face paced versions of other 2d fighters and incorporates a little of platformer games (like smash bros) to add some vertical to it as well.

1v1  can be set up in a more professional manner which encourage a more intelligent fighting style instead of a more chaotic nature of a multi player free for all. This chaos is something that doesn’t align with what I want for my game. I feel it is more rewarding when you fight and win against an individual opponent, while mastering a skill set.

This Saturday we get to see the Real Version.

The Royal Rumble is my favorite Wrestling Event. 30 men and/or women compete to be the last person standing after all 30 have entered. A Kayfabe test of luck and skill. While the later you come in is normally the best, those who drew early saw victory. It even inspired me to make an OC Tournament style of it. So why exactly is the Royal Rumble an event I enjoy so much I recreated it in Sprite Comic Form?

1 - The Surprises

While the WWE have plenty of Roster Members, one of the fun moments is seeing who gets in. Will it be a returning Wrestler coming back from an injury? An old wrestler making a one night return? Someone from NXT (their Development Brand) making their Main Roster Debut? Will the Forbidden Door be open and we see a Champion from a different organization make a rare appearance? The surprises are endless until those final countdowns happen. Last year, while weak, saw Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James make an appearance (and thank goodness with Hardcore Country and not her stalker theme). With Triple H back in control, who knows what kind of surprises we’ll get. I’m kind of hoping we’ll be going TO THE MOON!!!

2 - The Interactions

Sometimes things happen that prevent an interaction from happening. Those on the lower card may never get to interact with the higher. There are few people who will get the chance to share a Ring with Brock Lesnar after all. But with the Royal Rumble, those moments could happen. John Cena teaming up with Hornswoggle, Hulk Hogan and Mr. Perfect facing each other as equals. Keith Lee being impressive against Brock Lesnar. Reunions of old teams. Returns of old rivalries. Two wrestlers who use socks for their finishers clash with them together. That’s just fun.

3 - The Ironman

There’s usually one wrestler in an event that lasts a long time. Sometimes they’re the winners. Other times, they’re this close. But to be the Ironman, WWE wanted that person to stay in the ring the longest. Bret Hart, Ted DiBiase, Kane, even winners like Rey Mysterio, Rick Flair and Shawn Micheals are considered Ironmen of the Rumbles. Most of them are considered Legends in Wrestling, with Hall of Fame spots well earned or likely to be given to them. If they last a long time, they’re destined for great things.

4 - The Stories

While the Royal Rumble can see old rivalries return, some of the cool stuff is seeing the stories to come out of it. A memorable example is Shawn Micheals’ quest to face the Undertaker once more. At the time, he was a World Champion and didn’t want to face Shawn again at Wrestlemania. So for Shawn to get his shot, he entered the Rumble to get that shot. Sadly, Batista took his chance when he got eliminated. This later had Shawn interfere in Taker’s match on the next PPV to lose the title and the eventual Streak Vs Career Match. Seeing if you can figure out the stories that would lead to Wrestlemania is fun to see.

5 - Guessing who wins

And finally, the fun is figuring out who is going to win. Who would make the most sense to main event a Wrestlemania. With Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair (somehow) and Bianca Belair as our World champs (and NXT being included in the possible choices), the fun is figuring out who is going to be our winners and face one of these champions? Seth Vs Roman at Wrestlemania? Maybe Cody if he returns? Will Becky Lynch win the Rumble again to face her old rivals? Is Shayna Baszler going to betray Ronda Rowsey and take out Flair? Or maybe bring it back to the NXT days and face Bianca. Maybe someone we didn’t expect. Maybe someone we do. The fun is figuring out and hopefully avoid having the audience boo when their choice wins.
