To me, what is so fantastic about One Piece Fan Letter is the emphasis on the way the Straw Hats have created these connections in the lives of people they have never met. The ending scene, with all the hands putting together the puzzle pieces, and the way that all these connections came together in one dazzling way-- I loved that. I teared up at that. Wherever the Straw Hats go, they leave behind all of these puzzle pieces for people to put together and create bonds that would not have existed had the Straw Hats not shown up!
And it also just... Makes me so in love with the concept of the world after Luffy becomes King of The Pirates. I know that Oda has the final chapter planned in his head, and I doubt we will really see the long lasting effects of Luffy achieving the title of Pirate King + his dream, and I really do not want a sequel series ala Boruto or Yasahime, but.... I want to see a world in which children believe they can become a Brave Warrior of the Sea thanks to Usopp, I want to see more children look at Nami and realize they don't NEED to have a Devil Fruit or Haki or muscles to have adventures. I want to see the next generation of the One Piece world believe so strongly in their dreams, that they set out to accomplish them.
One Piece Fan Letter really opened the door, I think, for more and more stories about the "regular" people in the world of One Piece, the people you don't see in the arcs because they're the nondescript background characters, and how the Straw Hat Crew has changed them. And I want that. To me, that is fantastic.

I'm not getting into The Giving Tree discourse...
#personal#delete later#idk i just saw a post of the “alternate ending” comic on my dash and everyone praising it as an improvement and “fixing” the original#which i kinda resent#while tulli and i was taking my nephew to a book store we walked around the kids section and found the giving tree and we read through it#and i was so stricken by how profoundly sad it is. it's not a happy story#in the end both versions tell the exact same lesson. but one flat out tells you and the other makes you sit with a pit in your stomach#and work to find the answer#i dunno it's kids literature but kids literature is important. i don't wanna discredit anyone's bad memories with the book but also i think#sometimes it's ok to make kids a bit sad and upset with fiction.#tweet that goes “what if romeo and juliet didn't kill themselves and explained to the audience that family feuds are bad”#idk you can't seriously read the original book as an adult and say it's glorifying self-martyrdom#when the final drawing of the book is of an old tired man sitting on arotting stump with his hat fallen to the ground#again i don't wanna invalidate people's feelings if they enjoy the alt version i think it's really nice too. but the original has its#purpose too. imagine if at the end of the lorax they show that the boy did it and replanted the world happy ending#wait they did that in the movie shit#i dunno i just love somber children's literature. tulli and i are talking about moomin right now and how the series ends with the moomin#family just leaving. and nobody gets to say goodbye to them. their friends have to find ways to live with the emptiness they've left behin

so my aunt is turning 70 in a couple weeks, and I've planned a blowout birthday for her---rented a lake house, invited every member of our family and also some of her friends; I have delightfully kitschy decorations (including a glittery BIRTHDAY QUEEN sash and paste-jewel crown, thanks for asking); my freezer is full of cakes, frosting, and cookies, so all I have to do is defrost, assemble and serve. I have been working on this since February, and I plan parties like a quartermaster just before the army decamps---there are a lot of lists involved.
My most recent task is assembling a guest book, filled with both blank space (so people can write nice messages) as well as all the photos I could get from family members. There's something almost meditative about assembling these pictures---here is my aunt as a teen, standing awkwardly next to her grandmother; here is my aunt as a grown woman, admiring a niece or nephew's sloppy Christmas present; here she is on vacation, or with a friend, or at the interminable succession of Sunday dinners, birthdays, and graduation parties that are the fabric of our family life. Despite having no biological children, she's so involved, she's so present---and this is just what we could grab from phones, my personal photos, facebook!
(She maintains the family archive, so I can't ask her directly.)
I don't know if I have a firm conclusion here. Just that---well, may we all be blessed with more photographs of ourselves than will fill a scrapbook, and a niece who will spend 6 months thinking about how to gently bully you into celebrating your birthday.

there is nothing more absurd than criston, who saw the worst manifestations of his team on rr and this only made him more - and MORE - loyal.
Tumblr media
one son is caught drunk driving, the other is trying to commit fratricide, and criston, like: yeah, these two are mine, so what? if something happens to them, i'll kill everyone in this room and then myself. as if they hadn't already driven him to ptsd and dreams of his own death lmao.
criston, u are THE father 🫵

Every single person not taking the time to find actual Syrians to listen to, every person who isn't a Syrian weighing in— you are stealing voices of the colonized, suppressed and tortured and doing the work of imperialism and colonization. Your voice is not needed.
Here are some twitter accounts to follow:
Leila Al-Shami
Aymenn J Al-Tamimi
Iyad El-Bhagdhadi
Lina Sergie Attar
Zaina Erhaim
Rasha Al-Aqeedi
Sara Hunaidi
If you know the handles of Syrian Tumblrs, please add them.
Do not boost anything that doesn't come from Syrians or endorsed by Syrians— not even any other Arabs or people who happen to be Muslim. If the accounts and perspectives of Syrians are conflicting themselves then that's good because they aren't a monolith. They simply deserve to be heard with their own voices. This is how you decolonize.

Bridgerton is one of my comfort shows mostly bc I think its so funny that the Bridgerton family is just the worst they're all deeply unlikeable insufferable people and watching each of them find love despite how utterly horrible they all are gives me hope

OK, which comics people consider "good writing" for Jason as Red Hood? Because it seems as if anytime he appears is labelled "bad writing" for his character. At this point, it seems only Under The Read Hood is good, but, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, one story from 20 years ago isn't enough to determine his whole character? Can he not change and grow? Get worse perhaps? Should he be stuck behaving exactly the same forever, which is at a point in his life where he was really not well mentally? And don't answer Lost Days, that's the story about how he grew to be like he is in Under The Red Hood, that's not answering how he should behave now.
Btw, this is not an invitation to tell me how you would write Jason as Red Hood or what you want to see him do, and what you want DC to do with him. I'm asking WHAT CANON are you basing yourself on.

I'm now on season 2 of my Natsume Yujinchou rewatch, and I love seeing the marked difference in the way Natsume is treated.
In season 1, we get a very withdrawn, very fake Natsume - quiet, smiling pleasantly but clearly looking right through people, apologising for taking up space. People like him right away but don't know how to breach that distance. But towards the end of season 1/ into season 2, we see people understanding Natsume more and more and deciding to close that distance by reaching out to him with affection. We see them teaching Natsume how to be loved.
We also get more people recognising and seeing straight through Natsume's bullshit, ESPECIALLY Nyanko-sensei.
Natsume: "My temperature is a little over 37 degrees."
Nyanko-sensei: "You should rest then."
Natsume: "I took some medicine. I should be fine if I don't do much. I don't want to worry Touko-san."
Nyanko-sensei: "Geez, how long will it take you to realise?"
Natsume, entirely oblivious to just how much he's loved and wanted: "...Realise what?"

I really wanted to do a Dadster and babybones type thing.
In my Physics class we have been analyzing animations to practice calculating height and velocity and stuff. I learned that the cliff Pocahontas jumps off in the Disney movie is approximately 500 meters tall, meaning she was going about 200 miles per hour when she hit the water.
I've been putting Gaster into my science teachers' shoes, so expect more Gaster comics inspired by them.
Undertale belongs to Toby Fox
