it's been a year since i lied to you and told you that yes ive moved on so can we please be friends again. can you really blame me? i thought getting good at suppressing our memories from that one month meant moving on. i didn't know that i would feel a lump in my throat when you called me suddenly in the middle of a sunday even tho the plan was to talk once a week and we had talked only 3 days before. i didn't know i would feel butterflies in my stomach when i heard your laugh so close to my ear, but can you really blame me for being reminded of you giggling talking about the logistics of kissing on your study table?
but it's been another year since we've talked on the phone. those memories are so distant and blurry and full of light and happiness that i can't even believe they happened to me, it feels like they happened to a different person. so you don't have to worry, because ive moved on now.
remember when i used to tell you that i miss you so much i can't think about anything else, that i spend all my day reading our old chats? and you used to say, you need to stop and there are other people in the world? well, you don't have to worry about feeling uncomfortable now. i passed the exam i failed because i was too heartbroken over you. i go to tuitions and then i go to internship and i come home so late that all i do is eat and sleep. ive been doing better these days.
and you were right, there are other people in the world. but do you know, i asked a girl to come watch barbie with me, and she made a disgusted expression and said she'd already watched it and she hated it? this happened after we shared a coffee and realising we live next to each other and finding out that she watches kdramas and i listen to kpop. so surprising isn't it? someone who probably understands toxic masculinity and gender roles are fucked up still has internalised misogyny in her? nobody can compare to you, you lecturing me about feminism in tenth standard and your little book club with assigned reading as a thousand splendid suns and you having tears in your eyes showing us harry styles with pride flags in his concerts and you being mean and blunt saying i need to talk about my internalised homophobia. im starting to think you were one in a million and i was a fool to lose you, and an even bigger fool to have had you back and then lose you again.
but do you understand now? you told me you didn't, two years ago. i asked you, don't you understand that i was going crazy dealing with my psychotic family and i was depressed and tired and couldn't talk? and you said no, you're sorry, you really don't, you don't understand how someone can not share why they're sad to the person they supposedly love the most in the world. as i was writing this, daylight by taylor swift started playing. ironic, isn't it? there are many memories ive tried to erase from that one month, but this one i cannot forget- me coming into your room the night we planned and asking you if you're sure about this and is this like an experiment thing a oh what's kissing like thing or is it a we're in love with each other thing, and you smiling softly and saying girl yes i am sure it is one hundred percent a we're in love thing.
ive been getting better at sharing my sadness with my loved ones. my parents haven't stopped fighting, my dad shouted at my mom today morning because my brother lost the car keys, but it's okay, ive learned to tune it out. he only lives here for half a month, he stays somewhere else the other half so it's been easier to bear. my sister moved out, finally. ive been sad because of it but i know she's obviously happier there so it's okay. we have a neighbor and they have this tiny tiny annoying si kid she always comes to her house after her mom scolded her to sulk and watch tv with us. how is your little sister doing? i think of her when our neighbor devil comes. and how is your mom doing? are they settling in well to the new city? and how are you doing? have you been okay? we don't have to be exes trying to be friends again. but can't we just be childhood friends (if age 15 was childhood) who drifted apart briefly but found their way back to each other? please?
but it's okay, if we can't. cause like i said, ive moved on.

OK what even is happening with the Crows
I’ve just been trawling through the wiki and World of Thedas for a few hours trying to figure out what we (a) know, (b) can guess, (c) can speculate wildly about the inner workings of the Crows during the Dragon age.
(I am by no means an expert on the lore so please let me know where I have wildly missed the mark).
I'm definitely not trying to propose any kind of fanon consensus, where's the fun in that?! Just trying to figure out a timeline that makes sense to me. Possibly also toying around with a pre-canon Rookanis fic.
Loooong and probably insanely disorganised text post under the cut. I should have been in bed hours ago but I am hyperfixating on this and will not sleep until I hit post.
Spoilers, so many spoilers below: Veilguard, Tevinter Nights, The Silent Grove, Origins, Awakenings, the entire franchise basically.
So, a speculative timeline. Events in black are fairly or very well supported by the lore; events in blue are inconsistent/uncertain in the lore; events in purple are guesses that I can sort of back up; events in red are me throwing a dartboard at the wall.
Note: The wiki puts the events of "Eight Little Talons" in 9:44 Dragon, but I can't find any source for that. I would have guessed a little later, but let's roll with 9:44.
Also, I'm pretty unclear on the guildmaster/grandmaster distinction. I'm just going to say 'head of house' for whoever is in charge of a Crow house, or Talon if they're head of one of the eight Talon Houses.
Blessed Age
8:70 Blessed - Caterina born (she's described as well into her 70s during Eight Little Talons and as around 80 in the data-mined character descriptions for Veilguard, so give or take a couple years this seems right).
9:00 to 9:29 Dragon: House Arainai Shenanigans
9:00 Dragon - Antivan civil war, beginning of the "much maligned" Three Queens era (Codex, History of Kirkwall - Chapter 4). Unclear exactly what happens or over what period of time, but seems like the Crows would be in the thick of things.
9:05 - 9:10 - Caterina maybe reaches Talon status (not First, though). Around 8:98 Blessed would be the absolute earliest she could get there given Teia's holds the record (youngest Talon at 28). But I think Teia was at least three or four years younger than any previous Talon so I'd put it somewhere around here, if not a few years later.
9:12 Dragon - Zevran, aged 7, is purchased from a Rialto brothel by House Arainai. The House is led by First Talon Talav Arainai and described as rolling in coin after the "Three Brides" contract - they purchase 17 other slaves that year, including Taliesen (World of Thedas, vol 2, p. 96). I think based purely on vibes that House Arainai is fairly secure in First Talon position and has been there at least a couple years, probably longer.
9:15ish Dragon - Teia born (she's described as 28 in the data-mined descriptions, but she's already a Talon in 'Eight Little Talons', which says she was the youngest ever to reach the rank at age 28. I'm assuming she got there a year or two before the events of the story. See 9:17.
9:16 Dragon - whoops, sometime over the last four years it all went to shit for Talav Arainai! The House dropped to Second Talon, and he was executed in 9:16 after trying to take back the seat of First. Isadora Arainai takes over, and the House hangs on as Second Talon... for now. Rinna joins House Arainai and immediately works well with Zevran and Taliesen under the mentorship of Eoman Arainai (World of Thedas, vol 2, p. 96). This would be the earliest that Caterina could reach First Talon, but I'm not sure I'd put it this early. I think the latest she could possible reach First would be 9:25ish based on my guesses about House Velardo (see below).
9:17 Dragon - Lucanis born (described as 36 in the data-mined character descriptions. I know I threw out those descriptions for Teia, but I think we can be pretty certain Lucanis is mid thirties).
9:17 Dragon - Teia born. I was going back through Eight Little Talons and my initial read was wrong. Teia is 28 during the events of the story.
9:24 Dragon - House Arainai, having the sort of shitty luck they absolutely deserve, falls entirely out of the rank of Talons when Second Talon Isadora dies. They wallow amongst the cuchillos (minor houses) for a few years (World of Thedas, vol 2, p. 96).
9:22 - 9:27 - House Velardo attempts to usurp First Talon from House Dellamorte? The resulting war kills all of Caterina's children and grandchildren, save Lucanis and Illario. My reasoning here is this: Lucanis says he and Illario would have ended up with Caterina to train, but being orphaned sent them to her younger than anticipated. Zevran was purchased at age 7, so we know Crow training, at least for House Arainai slaves, begins very young. Perhaps the non-slave children of influential house leaders start later, but I would guess not much. So I'm assuming they end up with Caterina sometime between ages 5 and 10?
9:25 Dragon - King Maric is thought lost at sea, but is in reality being held by Third Talon Claudio Valisti in a Crow prison on behalf of a Tevinter Magister, Aurielion Titus.
Side note: I had the same reaction to finding out the Crows have a super-fun torture prison as I did to finding out Weisshaupt has dungeons. Just... why? That feels like mission creep? Does the assassin skill set at all overlap with the prison guard skill set?
9:26 - 9:28 - Eoman takes over as head of House Arainai. He eliminates House Ferragani, which was Eighth Talon, thus clearing the way for Arainai to claw its way back into power. Unfortunately, he needs the support of Third Talon Claudio Valisti to take over the position. Valisti wants Rinna Arainai dead (cult / royal bastard reasons) and Eoman tricks Zevran and Taliesen, her lovers, into doing it. This was a very stupid decision (WoT vol 2, p. 96).
9:30 to 9:43 Dragon: Zevran's Revenge
9:30 Dragon - Zevran, depressed and angry about Rinna's death, bids for the contract on the Warden's life. House Arainai is said to have accepted this contract because they believed Loghain to be the best person to defeat the blight (WoT vol 2, p. 96).
Side note: This sort of, if you squint, reconciles the contract on the Warden's life in 9:30 with the memento found in Veilguard that says the Crows had treaties with the Wardens to fight the "next blight". But also they tried to kill the Warden-Commander in Awakenings, too. I guess one could argue a new blight was unlikely so soon but like. Come on, guys. Is your word to the Wardens worth anything or not?
9:31 - 9:34 - If Zevran survived, he comes back from Ferelden with a spring in his step and murder in his heart (and possibly a Warden on his arm) and wreaks absolute havoc on House Arainai. Eoman is first to go, then like half a dozen more of their top people. The House loses Eighth Talon and falls once more into obscurity. The Crows call Zevran (or an unnamed assassin if Zevran is dead) the "Black Shadow" and speculate that he has allies among the cuchillos (WoT vol 2, p. 96).
9:34 - 9:43 - Where the fuck is Zevran?
9:37 Dragon - Corypheus is freed (Legacy DLC). The Venatori will start to be a thing in the next few years, so Lucanis is going to pick up his nickname between now and, say 9:50 Dragon. I'd put it between 9:45 and 9:49 because of vibes (and because he talks about not immediately specialising in mages. Crows get started very young, but I dunno. I see him starting on mages in his mid twenties because, again, vibes.)
9:38 - 9:40 - Events of The Silent Grove (comic - I haven't read it in a while but I'm throwing it in here for complete-ish-ness). Alistair, Varric and Isabela break into the Crow archive and Velabanchel prison (which side note is a totally heinous operation). Isabela kills Claudio Valisti (Third Talon passes to Ezio Valisti). This, for me, raises the question again: Where the fuck is Zevran (sob). Valisti was implicated in Rinna's death, so either Zevran never found out or he couldn't get to Valisti while he was cleaning house.
9:44 Dragon - Ongoing: We're Entering Our Freedom-Fighter Era
9:44 Dragon - The events of 'Eight Little Talons'. Briefly: Caterina calls all the Talons together to plan for the imminent invasion of the Antaam, but a whole bunch of murder happens. Turns out that Fourth Talon Emil Kortez made deal with the Antaam and was trying to wipe out the Crows' leadership. He was killed by the survivors and Viago suggests--correctly, I think--that Caterina will wipe out the whole house.
The following Talons are killed but it seems like their houses will probably retain their status, with somebody else taking over as Talon:
Dante Balazar, Second
Lera Valisti, Third
Giuli Arainai, Eighth (having only just managed to lift that fucking house back up to Talonship, shame lol)
In addition to Caterina, Viago, and Teia, Sixth Talon Nero Bolivar survives, but he um, isn't much help. I would guess that Caterina, in a pretty strong alliance with Viago and Teia and with all the other Talons being new, might fuck his shit up and try to get someone more solid in before the Antaam invade?
9:44 - ongoing - WHERE THE FUCK IS ZEVRAN???? He can't have taken control of any of the eight Talon houses, because he's not at the summit in 'Eight Little Talons'-- and however much he damaged House Arainai, they've clawed back some power by 9:44. Is there a breakaway faction of cuchillo houses that Caterina won't even dignify with an acknowledgment? Is he not interested in any kind of Crow power and is just fucking shit up for them - we can assume House Valisti has had a lock on Third Talon since at least 9:28 (Claudio or Ezio Valisti pop up periodically in this position), and my guess is House de Riva have held Fifth a decent period of time, but as far as I can tell we know nothing about Second, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Talon Houses in this period. So maybe Zev is toppling houses left, right and centre? Seems like that sort of instability might have changed Caterina's approach in 'Eight Little Talons', though...
9:51 - Lucanis imprisoned in the Ossuary.
9:51 - Antaam invasion of Antiva, starting with Treviso. The Antaam rebellion begins in 9:44 and is ongoing; the failure of Kortez in 9:44 delayed the invasion somewhat. I wouldn't have thought it would delay it this much, but I'm pretty sure that it happened while Lucanis was imprisoned, right? So since we free him in 9:52 after a year in the Ossuary, the invasion must have been delayed until 9:51? Maybe very late 9:50?
"Conclusions"
(I haven't read the comics in a bit and I know there's some Crow stuff that goes down in there beyond the Silent Grove... but as best I recall its just Teia and Viago running into Varric and Harding, and some stuff setting up Solas and the Antaam. Please let me know if I'm mistaken!)
I think it's safe to say the Crows are in chaos for pretty much the entire first half of the Dragon age: Arainai are causing chaos from 9:16 to 9:25, then they pass the torch to Velardo, whose war against House Dellamorte must have lasted a few years if it wiped out almost all of Caterina's family. Zevran is on a murder spree at least between 9:31 and 9:34, and possibly (much) longer depending on your headcanon.
After, at very best, a decade's peace, 9:44 sees the plot to wipe out the Crow leadership, which fails but does kill half the Talons and lead to the elimination of at least one, maybe two of the Talon Houses. Half a decade after that the Antaam invades.
I've been completely on board with the critiques of Veilguard's portrayal of the Crows, but I think writing it all out like this has helped me reconcile things a little bit? This is a deeply chaotic network of feuding families, and no single Talon is going to have the secure political power to make sweeping changes. Which isn't to say the child abuse that was definitely still occuring in Houses Dellamorte and de Riva during Rook and Lucanis' childhoods is just fine. But it makes more sense to me now that Houses Dellamorte, de Riva and Cantori could have wildly different ideas about slavery and torture prisons than, say Houses Arainai and Valisti--and have extremely limited power to shift the culture of competing Houses. Even the First Talon's position is deeply precarious.
Whew. Good night!
(Just realised as I was tagging that I haven't slotted The Wigmaker Job in anywhere. I thiiiiink Viago mentions in 'Eight Little Talons' that Lucanis is currently in Tevinter for a job, maybe a sly reference to Wigmaker? But I cannot possibly get sucked in any deeper, my dog is losing her entire mind at me STILL being at the computer.)
***
Waking up and editing to add: At some point in her time as a Talon (probably First but I guess maybe not?), Caterina wiped out another house so completely that Teia doesn't even recognise the name, Gaspari, when Viago mentions it in 'Eight Little Talons'. Given House Velardo was the one that made a play for First Talon, this is a whole 'nother big intra-Crows conflict that slots in somewhere on this timeline. Caterina is ruthless, y'all.
***
Editing again a few days later to report that I was flicking through WoT and spotted a WHOLE-ASS ENTRY on Claudio Valisti that I’d managed to miss. I was… not happy. I’m begging you BioWare, no more information. I cannot reconcile it.
Anyway. World of Thedas, vol 2, p 44, has Claudio Valisti taking over from his father as Eighth Talon in 9:34, quickly getting the house to Sixth Talon and appearing to be going places. This appears to contradict p. 96 of the same, which has a Third Talon Claudio Valisti helping House Arainai in 9:28, as described above.
I thought very carefully about tearing the page out, burning it, and forgetting I ever knew this particular piece of lore.
Instead I have decided fuck it, we have a father-son pair here. Senior helped out Arainai in 9:28. His house later fell to Eighth (in my incredibly unwieldy and underdeveloped headcanon this is partly because helping Arainai really pissed off Caterina). Claudio Senior dies in 9:34, Claudio Junior inherits. By the time Junior dies to Isabela in 9:38-40 he’s got the house properly back on track, so the loss of a leader doesn’t destabilise them too badly.
Ezio Valisti is Third Talon in 9:41, according to the Winter Palace announcer in Inquisition, and the house still holds the third seat in 9:44.
(Also edited Teia’s birth year from 9:15 to 9:17; I misread Eight Little Talons. She’s 28 during the events of the story.)

It was yet another day. Another tiring day. You haven't gone through it yet, but you sure didn't get much rest even though you've slept.
You sigh, and turn your back on the bed. Nat was sleeping beside you, but you were too caught up in zoning out to move closer to her. And you didn't want to wake her yet.
Nothing has even happened today and still, you can't bare to think about anything. Perhaps all your emotions are catching up, and at that thought, you turn your face into the pillow.
Another few minutes pass by with you staring at the ceiling, turning until your leg and arm was dangling off the side of the bed, or face down on your pillow. It didn't take long for your temptation to shuffle closer to Nat to take over though.
You slowly put your arms around her and snuggle closer to her, taking comfort in the warmth of her body. With her being a light sleeper though, she starts to stir awake. Her eyes open and her arms move to hold yours.
"Morning, любовь (love)." She whispered, her voice raspy, but her words filling the room and your heart with warmth with even the smallest way. Maybe this day won't be so bad...Maybe this day won't be so bad.
She turns in your embrace and looks at you with gentle half-lidded eyes, her nose brushing against yours ever so slightly with the fact that you were face-to-face. She could see it in your eyes already, something was off. She moves herself up to leave the softest kiss on your forehead. You could've broken there already, but you didn't. You didn't.
You rest your head against her chest, a small pout making its way to your face. She runs her hand through your hair and holds you for a few more minutes, the both of your breathing being able to be heard as if on whispering volume, but it was there, and gentle.
Soon she pulls away, dragging herself up to a more sitting position, leaving you beside her stomach level. You assume she was about to get up to do her morning routine, and you were about to prepare to pull her back to bed.
"What do you want for breakfast?" She asks, and the question almost made you confused, because you were expecting she would go for her morning run, but it seems, she wants to do something else.
With the simple question, you manage to make up an answer. Although it did take you a few minutes, with your jumbled up mind.
"Waffles." She smiles, having heard that answer several times. Nat gently nudges you to move you to the pillow instead, and goes to get up from the bed.
"Wait," you say suddenly, capturing her arm before it could be out of your reach. She turns back to you, a gentle and curious look upon her face.
"Are you staying?" You ask, your voice being nothing more than a whisper. But the little shakiness it holds doesn't pass by her ears.
"Of course I am." It was a rather simple answer. But the touch of her hand against yours and her eyes meeting yours was more than enough of a promise.
She gives you a small smile before going into the bathroom with her towel, the shower soon being an occuring noise coming from the bathroom.
Your eyes glide over to the window, the view being buildings and the sky filled with fluffy clouds. Your mind strayed. The running water was the only other thing you could focus on.
When Nat came out, she was wrapped into a towel. You pull the covers closer to yourself and curl up under them, feeling colder from just the gusts of wind the ceiling fan is making. Were you only sick and gathering a fever? No. No, that wasn't it.
You turn to look back at Nat, and she was fully clothed already. You watch her walk towards the bed, reaching out her arm to put the back of her hand against your forehead. It wasn't warm. She must know something is up already.
"Shower, okay? Or, you won't get any waffles." She says, her fingers moving a stray hair out of your face, but looking at you with raised eyebrows.
"Is that a threat?" You finally give her the smallest raise on the corners of your lips, and it took everything in her not to cheer.
"Yes, it is!" She said jokingly, her voice further away now that she went out the door, but the volume made it so that the words reached your ears. You shake your head, the sound of her voice being the most adorable thing to you.
You lay your back against the bed once more, staring up at the moving ceiling fan. Today is going to be a long day.
Some movement could be seen in the corner of your eye, and you almost thought Nat was back already, but then when you look, you only see a black furry animal coming to visit you.
Liho jumps up on the bed, and stares at you with her yellow eyes. The cat walks closer, and you go to pet it, the soft fur precious against your gentle hands.
It's cold nose touches you, and at it, you smile. You had forgotten cats had cold noses. Liho steps back a bit, and you tilt your head, wondering about her next move.
She leaped to the other side of the bed, going above your legs to reach to where Nat usually lays, and meows at you.
With your head and eyes following her movement, it soon went up to where the bathroom is. You blink at it for a second or two, making up decisions in your head.
Soon enough, you willed yourself out of bed by slowly going to a sitting position, to letting your legs dangle at the side of the bed, and finally, with hesitancy, getting up.
You were about to go search the closet for an outfit to wear, but then you see at the edge of the bed, a folded hoodie and your favorite sweatpants prepared already, by perhaps, Nat.
Your heart warmed at the caring gesture she did. With the more courage, you make your way to the bathroom to take a warm shower, hoping that the day will only get better.
When you got back out, the fluffy towel kept you feeling cozy, and you got your clothes on. By the time you look to the door and walk to the kitchen, Nat was sitting at the kitchen island, ready with two plates of waffles.
She glances up and sees you, a soft smile present on her face. What got you so lucky to have someone like her? You sit down in front of her, and enjoy the waffles she prepared, the soft texture of your hoodie giving as much comfort as the warmth of the waffle soon going in your mouth.
The rest of the day then consisted of you being unable to focus on anything. You couldn't read, and you couldn't do your hobbies without straying off to doing something else such as staring off into space or just laying on the couch or bed doing nothing.
You yawn, for the tenth time the past hour. But you weren't sleepy. Gosh, you were tired though. Nat was beside you on the couch, working on something on her laptop while you scrolled endlessly on your phone.
Her eyes go over to you, before flickering back to her laptop, her hands then moving to turn it off and close it. She turns her head to you, and the attention you feel from the side has you looking away from your phone and instead, at her.
"Do you wanna sit down outside? The sun's going down." She tilts her head towards the door, then goes to glance at the window in the living room, it having a view of the sky slowly changing color.
Your eyes had a certain shine on them when they laid upon the window, the colors and the way the sunlight does a shape of the window somewhere on the floor finally captured an attention of your auto-pilot mind. You nod at Nat's question, a quiet "Yeah," making out of you.
"Look," you say, just as Nat was about to get up from the couch. She looks down and was just as entranced as you were at the scenery in front of her.
"You should take a photo." She encourages you with a small smile and stands up. You take out your phone and find a perfect angle to grab a picture. Also making sure the exposure is on the perfect level.
"I'll make us hot chocolate, yeah? You can go out first so you don't miss the first few minutes." Nat says, going to the kitchen. Liho enters the scene, and lays down on the carpet just next to where it seeped in the sun, and you just had to take another picture.
After you were satisfied, you push yourself up with your hands and make your way to the door, slowly opening it and going out, leaving it open just a crack so Nat could come outside easier.
A golden sunset spreads throughout the place. The sun paints the sky a lovely shade of orange mixed with light blue, and a tinge of pink. You admire how smooth the gradient is.
The wooden texture of the floor makes itself known on your hands as you shuffled to rest your back against the wall of the house, but you slide your hands into your pockets comfortably.
The door opens, and Nat comes outside with two fresh mugs of hot chocolate. One being coffee though, for herself. She was quick. In your peripheral vision, you could see her sitting next to you on the porch, and hand you one mug.
You turn your head to look at her, and you reach up with one of your hands that held you up to grab the hot chocolate. The warmth made itself comfortable in your hands as you clasped it lightly to not burn yourself, but making sure your grip wasn't too loose.
You take a deep breath in, and let it out as a long sigh, not meaning to do it so audibly. Natasha takes notice of this, and her eyes drift from the view of the sunset, over to you, seeing just how lost in your head you were.
"Are you okay детка (baby)?" She starts gently with a simple question. She knows today was one of those days.
"I don't know," you say. It was honest. You don't know what you've felt for a while, but it was certainly gnawing at you for something. Some kind of release. You just didn't have time or energy to in the past few days.
"You've been off the entire day." She adds, her voice laced with concern, but no judgement. She put her mug to the side after another sip, her focus all on you while you tried to keep yours on the sunset.
"I just wanna stay home right now," you whisper. It's not that she was about to ask you if you wanted to go out, but rather, just the fact that you felt comfortable and safe at the moment. This is home. She's your home.
Nat's eyes roam your face, searching for all the thoughts you're thinking. But she couldn't really read your face. Perhaps because, you didn't know what you were feeling either. Sad? Mad? Stressed? Anxious? So many feelings available to name, but all you felt was a sense of heaviness.
"...I feel like falling apart anytime." that was the only other thing you could say. Your voice quiet, so quiet she could only hear it because she was right beside you.
It clicks in for Nat, and she understands fully. She's done it herself, countless times. And you were there nearly every single time. Feelings being kept and slowly overflowing, until everything in the past few months catch up.
You tried everything within you not to. You tried. But it's not possible with how much you've already tried avoiding your emotions. The birds chirped and flew off home while the sun sank down.
Nat hears a small sniffle and a quiet but sharp intake of a breath coming from you, until another slightly louder sniffle comes out, and you turn your head to face her. She sees your eyes glistening with tears, and she takes in her own breath to not cry herself. To see you in such a state left a crack in her heart.
Her arms instinctively goes to pull you closer and hold you, and that was when you broke. You hid in her neck and sobbed in her embrace, your tears staining her shirt.
It was unusual, but not the first time you've broken down like this. Nat was still getting used to saying assuring words, but she thinks about all the things you've said to her before, and tries her best to use it in her own ways.
She gently runs her fingers through your hair, holding you safely. She could feel your body shaking, and your chest going up in hiccups from your breathing between your sobs.
"Oh, солнышко (sunshine)." She whispers softly, so softly. The sounds of your cries made her frown. She knows you can hold too many things in sometimes, but this was...heartbreaking.
Your fingers were gripping her shirt, afraid that perhaps, she'd disappear. But you can hear her heart beating, being so near to her chest while you were at her neck.
When she hears you taking too many, far too many breaths, she knows she has to step in. She leans back a little to see you, and you look up at her with your tear filled eyes.
"Look at me...follow my breathing, alright? I don't want you to lose it." She says, her head moving with her movement, but her voice was gentle, yet firm enough for you to keep a focus on her.
She takes a deep breath in from her nose and lets it out from her mouth, encouraging you follow. You eventually manage to do it, after a bunch of hiccups, and slowly regain your normal breathing. Nat nods slightly, her hands moving up to move your hair back, showing more of your face and hoping it makes breathing easier for you, giving you space.
"Take your time, дорогой (darling)." Her eyes move back to yours, the green in her pupils holding the look of a forest. A peaceful one.
"There you go." She quietly said, leaning in to rest her forehead against yours, the touch comforting you. She gives you a small reassuring smile before going up and laying a kiss on your forehead.
"You'll be okay." Your teeth catches your lip as you look at her, and she can tell there were thoughts racing in your head. She runs her thumb lightly on your lips, making you let go of it.
Once again, a black furry cat enters your vision, and it goes in between you and Nat, making the both of you look down for a moment.
You, with your cheeks stained with your tears, Liho walks up to you and rubs her head and body against yours, the gesture making your heart melt.
A teary laugh comes from you, and you reach out to touch it, the soft fur going against your hand. Liho, too, was concerned it seems, from how long you've been sitting outside, but also moves to go to Nat, checking on her too.
The redhead picks the cat up, petting it for a few seconds before setting it aside. Liho sits down, watching the two of you before her attention went to the streetlights turning on. You two stare at her for a bit until your eyes meet each other once more.
She shuffles closer to you once again and you rest your head against her shoulder, the heaviness in your own shoulders and heart having faded away in the mental breakdown. You felt steadier again, just a little more.
"I love you, okay?" She whispered, her eyes on the wooden floor the porch held, but her focus being all on you.
"I love you, too. So much." You couldn't be more grateful for her. She would always be there for you, whether it be through the hard times or the light and happier times.
Liho turns back to you two and goes to lay down between your bodies. The cat always managed to find a way to come in the right times, too.
With every small step you've taken before, you knew you've come this far not to just stop. Even when it's hard. But even so, you shouldn't always hold yourself too strong. Emotions are complicated. That's just how it is, but letting go could always be a relief.
Here you were in the moment, breathing and living with your heart beating lively in your chest. The gentle touch of Nat's fingers brings you back to reality.
Everything was going to be okay.

8/29/2024 - 9/6/2024
If I had a nickel for every time I took a vacation in a small European naval power that historically punched above its weight in global affairs I'd have two nickels, which... ah, you know the rest.
Just got back from a trip to the Netherlands and Belgium that was basically: Amsterdam -> Apeldoorn -> Utrecht -> Den Haag -> Brussels -> Ghent -> Amsterdam. I will now proceed to talk to myself about the highlights below the cut.
Still can't sleep on planes. I even took a sleeping pill and bought a fancy new neck pillow thing to help, but instead I was just exhausted and strangling myself. My dinner also didn't sit well with me, so every time I was about to fall asleep, my gag reflex would trigger and I felt like I was gonna throw up. Seven hours of this was not very relaxing.
Landed at ass o'clock in the morning local time and had 6 hours to kill before hotel check in. I've always read that spending time outdoors in natural sunlight helps regulate your circadian rhythm and can fight jet lag, so I took us to look at some windmills. This was kind of a blur and I'm not certain it made much of a difference because I did end up crashing and taking a nap in the afternoon anyway.
Acknowledging that I am biased about this because I am 1) American and 2) literally a traffic engineer by trade, I simply cannot describe the Netherlands as anything other than "car-hostile". I felt actively unsafe driving around each city we visited because there are so many people on bicycles everywhere, who have right of way. Hell, even as a pedestrian I didn't feel safe because they come at you from every direction and you gotta keep your head on a swivel at all times. In The Hague I watched a woman get knocked into by a cyclist who just shouted over her shoulder "Let op voor fietsen!" ("Watch out for bikes!") and carried on.
Amsterdam ended up being more interesting than I was expecting and now I kinda wish I had dedicated one more day for it in the itinerary. Convenient and easy mass-transit system, some of the best bookstores I've ever been in, and beautiful canals everywhere you look.
Were I forced to describe the geography of the Netherlands, I would have to call it "suspiciously flat." I also got to continue my tradition of traveling to foreign countries, seeing literal hundreds of spinning wind turbines all over the place, and seething with jealousy.
Utrecht was a neat, smaller city with a central canal that I wish I had set aside more time for. Felt like a place where you'd actually want to live more than a touristy city.
The Mauritshuis in The Hague is where Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring is located, and you know that before you even get to that room because she's plastered on 99% of everything for sale in the gift shop right at the entrance.
When we drove over the Netherlands-Belgium border, it started getting overcast. These gray skies hung around for four days, and dissipated as soon as we traveled back north on the final day. All of my memories of this country will now have a gray/de-saturated filter on them.
I know Brussels has a reputation of being a run-down or dangerous city among Europeans, but it just felt like a regular American city to me (specifically like the architecture/street layout of Boston with the political importance of Washington DC). Like, I don't know what to tell you, sometimes cities have visible homeless people, unsightly graffiti, and ethnic minority neighborhoods? It's gonna be okay, I promise. Amsterdam felt like Weenie Hut Jr. by comparison.
Going through the European Parliament building was very cool and very well laid-out and informative. Definitely a personal highlight of the trip for me.
The Belgian War Museum kinda just felt like some rich guy's personal collection of artifacts the public shouldn't have had access to? Not a lot of labels explaining what you're looking at in any language.
Belgian chocolate is fine. Not bad, but I mean it's chocolate, that's hard to screw up, you know?
During my research before this trip I kept seeing a general consensus that Bruges is super touristy and sanitized and feels fake and that Ghent was better for a more "authentically" preserved medieval center. I'm glad I opted to go there instead because it exceeded my expectations. Awesome architecture everywhere you turn, way fewer crowds than I expected, and it still felt lived in by modern people rather than a giant open-air museum.
Literally did not see a single physical Euro at all on this trip. Both of these countries are entirely cashless societies, and everyone (both tourists and locals) used chip readers and contactless payment for damn near every interaction. If anything, I saw tons of "Card Only/No Cash" signs and none of the opposite.

I want to ask for all of them because i love your fics but ill just ask for 4,5, and 8
🫶🫶
you are way too sweet! thank you! ilyy <<33
heres another part of:
drunk texting
Theo’s phone lit up with another round of texts, pulling him back to reality.
Liam [11:55 pm]: okay i gotta say somethin Liam [11:56 pm]: u smell rlly good. not now but always. ugh. wish i was smellin u rn lololol Liam [11:56 pm]: wait no that sounds weird Liam [11:57 pm]: but true Liam [11:58 pm]: btw i’m thnking abt u and ur stupid face and ur dumb hot body Liam [11:58 pm]: come here i needa kiss u or fight u idk which yet Liam [11:58 pm]: probs both
Theo stared at his screen, his pulse racing. He couldn’t decide if he wanted to laugh, cry, or throw his phone across the room. Liam’s texts were both ridiculous and heartbreakingly earnest, like he didn’t care about how much he was revealing.
And then a new message buzzed in—this time from Alec.
Alec [12:00 am]: lololol bro ur boy’s a mess
Attached was a video. Theo hesitated for half a second before opening it.
The screen lit up with a shaky video, obviously taken by a very drunk Alec. Liam was sitting cross-legged on the floor, waving a mostly-empty beer bottle around as he ranted.
not like i miss you
this is just something short about theo being away on a mission and liam texting him. they aren’t togther, but they also are not NOT something. technically, this is complete but as i wanna add a part 2, where they actually get together, it is still a wip lol
----
Liam [10:32 AM]: school is actual hell. Liam [10:32 AM]: i hate bio. Liam [10:32 AM]: i hate math. Liam [10:33 AM]: i hate all of it. Liam [10:33 AM]: anyway, if i fail, i’m blaming u Theo [10:55 AM]: You should be paying attention in class, Dunbar. Liam [10:56 AM]: wow, look who finally decided to show up. Liam [10:56 AM]: and no, i will not be paying attention. my suffering must be documented
---
Liam [9:12 AM]: u ever think abt how weird dreams are? Liam [9:12 AM]: had one where u were a barista and kept judging my coffee order Theo [9:14 AM]: That doesn’t sound like a dream. That sounds like reality. Liam [9:14 AM]: u were wearing a stupid little apron. had a nametag that said asshole barista Theo [9:17 AM]: Sounds fake.Liam [9:17 AM]: it was real in my heart
---
Liam [6:29 PM]: dude. saw a guy who looked JUST like you at the gas station Liam [6:29 PM]: almost went up to him n punched him on instinct Liam [6:29 PM]: jk. kinda. Liam [7:42 PM]: also mason says hi but like in a "tell ur dumbass boyfriend to be careful” way Liam [7:44 PM]: not that ur my boyfriend. obviously. i didn’t say that (Read at 8:06 PM – No Reply)
can't tell what's real (only your skin on mine)
this is one of my bigger projects and also probs my first real one with more smut. it is about liam having issues with derealization & depersonalization after the war is over and just kinda being overwhelmed. everything is feeling more and more like it is not really happening to liam but to someone else. like a thick fog is around liam. he then starts sleeping with theo, which is the only time liam feels truly alive. but liam won’t admit it. he doesn’t want to admit that he has feelings fotr theo.
i don’t have a lot yet, mainly i am trying to work on the outline but here is a small snippet i did write out (at the beginning and still very much "enemies with benefits")
!slight smut incoming!
“Fuck you,” Liam spat again, shoving Theo back hard.
Theo only laughed, catching himself against the truck, eyes blazing with something darker, something more. “Make me.”
Liam crashed into him without thinking, mouth smashing against Theo’s in a bruising, punishing kiss.
It was teeth and tongue, all fury and fire. Theo groaned, fingers fisting in Liam’s jacket, pulling him closer until their bodies collided.
Liam bit down on Theo’s lower lip, tasting salt and want. Theo hissed but didn’t pull back—instead, he shoved Liam against the truck, mouth devouring his in return.
Their breathing was ragged, harsh pants mingling with the scrape of nails against skin. Liam hated how good it felt—how alive it made him feel.
Theo’s hands wandered, rough and sure, yanking Liam’s jacket off and tossing it aside. His nails scraped down Liam’s back, dragging a broken moan from his throat.
“Is this what you wanted?” Theo rasped, voice hoarse, lips slick and swollen.
“Shut up,” Liam gasped, yanking Theo’s head back by his hair and biting down on the curve of his neck. He hated how good Theo tasted, hated how Theo arched into the pain.

[Hyunsu & Chanyoung as Subs ; SWEET HOME]
Hi, this is my first smut drabble and first post so please be kind! also note that i've only watched through sweet home once! i've just finished the second season lol. ><
Warnings: smut, sub!hyunsu & chanyoung, dom!reader, female!reader, masochism, only read if you're eighteen or above.
This is written with an older reader in mind, with hyunsu being 19, the reader being 29, and chanyoung being 25. Forgive my HUGE noona kink. 🥲 Even tho I'm only 22 lol.
Hyunsu
Tumblr media
● Sub!Hyunsu, who only wants to please you, his noona, regardless of his own pleasure.
● Sub!Hyunsu who eats you out like you're a goddamn five course meal, savouring every part of you because you're his everything. The only light in his world.
● Sub!Hyunsu, who needs your praise like it's a drug. He's sadly very insecure, constantly worried that he's not doing well enough or that his body isn't good enough for you. You'd soon change those ridiculous thoughts of his.
● Sub!Hyunsu who is a sweet and caring boyfriend in the day, but a masochistic freak at night. You definitely take advantage of his healing abilities, allowing you to make Hyunsu's body your canvas. Scratches down his back, his front. Biting his chest, teasing him, and testing his pain tolerance.
● Sub!Hyunsu, who, after being in captivity and chained up, wants nothing more than to replace those memories with YOU. Tie him to the bedpost, put a hard metal collar around his neck. Anything to forget those painful times...and make new memories with you.
● Sub!Hyunsu who literally hate fucks you. Not because he's mad at you. But at himself. You know when he's depressed, because he shoves you onto the bed and buries his cock in your tight heat without warning. "Sorry, Noona...i really need you right now...i don't want to talk...i just need you."
● Sub! Hyunsu who gives you the best aftercare, even if he's the one who's all fucked out after a session. He'll even go out of his way to explore the city just to find a scented candle to light for you.
● Sub!Hyunsu who's monster wants you too, having felt just how satisfied Hyunsu was with you.
Chanyoung
Tumblr media
● Sub!Chanyoung, who's a complete virgin when you first meet him, and he's unable to meet your gaze when you sleep together for the first time.
● Sub!Chanyoung who is so overstimulated the moment your pussy clenches around him that he doesn't know what to do with his hands other than clutch the pillow as you ride him.
● Sub!Chanyoung who loves being bossed around in bed, and being told what to do. Want him to fuck you like you're unbreakable? Got it. Want to finger him until hes a blushing mess beneath you? Done! He lives to be your living, breathing sex toy.
● Sub!Chanyoung who keeps his uniform on while he eats you out, having just come back from a mission outside the stadium, knowing about your soldier kink. He looks just so handsome in it, but oh so much prettier with it off.
● Sub!Chanyoung whos thighs and lower abdomen are the most sensitive parts of his body. The moment you start leaving hickeys on his thighs or tracing the lines of his abs, Chanyoung goes crazy. "Not there, jagiya...i'll go crazy."
● Sub!Chanyoung who kneels at your feet after a long day, practically begging to bed you, looking up at you with his puppy like eyes.
● Sub!Chanyoung who is so drunk on your kisses, that he could come in his pants from the mere sensation of your lips on his.
● Sub!Chanyoung who can't believe that even after the world went to shit, he still has you to look after him. He may be your protector, but really, you're the one who saved him.

SubRip Subtitle text for Leverage: Redemption 3x7 - "The Shakedown in Clone-Town Job"
1 00:00:10,302 --> 00:00:13,013 See, I'm just… I'm just not doing it right.
2 00:00:13,097 --> 00:00:15,307 [sighs] I'm starving.
3 00:00:15,391 --> 00:00:17,560 Don't you keep food in this car? Like, burgers.
4 00:00:18,060 --> 00:00:20,146 Do I have any burgers in the car?
5 00:00:20,229 --> 00:00:22,356 No. [stammers] And we're not stopping, Parker. All right?
6 00:00:22,440 --> 00:00:24,817 I've been driving for eight hours, okay? I just want to get home.
7 00:00:24,900 --> 00:00:26,944 I want to get into bed. I want to get some sleep.
8 00:00:27,027 --> 00:00:29,530 It's dating, Sophie. How could you not be doing it right?
9 00:00:29,613 --> 00:00:32,366 My entire adult life I've been lying about who I am,
10 00:00:33,033 --> 00:00:34,785 and now I can't tell who to trust,
11 00:00:34,869 --> 00:00:36,912 or even if I'm capable of trusting a stranger.
12 00:00:36,996 --> 00:00:38,748 This new dating app I'm on,
13 00:00:38,831 --> 00:00:43,043 it-it-it just feels like everyone I'm chatting with is lying in some way.
14 00:00:43,127 --> 00:00:44,670 Oh, no, they really are.
15 00:00:44,754 --> 00:00:47,214 Yeah, but are these lies of the little white lie variety
16 00:00:47,298 --> 00:00:49,550 or the giant red flag variety?
17 00:00:49,633 --> 00:00:52,470 Yeah, like, "No, I don't have a murder room in my basement.
18 00:00:52,553 --> 00:00:54,221 Those zip ties are just for construction."
19 00:00:54,305 --> 00:00:56,724 [grunts] Or, "My divorce isn't final yet,
20 00:00:56,807 --> 00:00:58,976 but we're definitely not getting back together."
21 00:00:59,059 --> 00:01:03,647 Or like, "I would never use AI to create a totally fake human being."
22 00:01:04,899 --> 00:01:07,610 Yeah, so I may not have mentioned that I have, like,
23 00:01:08,110 --> 00:01:10,905 uh, dozens of online dating profiles.
24 00:01:10,988 --> 00:01:13,157 [stammers] Hang on. For yourself?
25 00:01:13,240 --> 00:01:15,701 Or is it for, like… You know, I'm not going down this rabbit hole.
26 00:01:15,785 --> 00:01:18,120 I just wanna get some sleep.
27 00:01:18,204 --> 00:01:21,123 No. Shill profiles, bots.
28 00:01:21,665 --> 00:01:25,211 Yeah, they're used to help establish histories for future con IDs.
29 00:01:25,294 --> 00:01:27,630 Usually, they're just, like, messaging each other
30 00:01:27,713 --> 00:01:30,716 so that if someone hacks in, they see months of conversations.
31 00:01:30,800 --> 00:01:31,801 Oh.
32 00:01:31,884 --> 00:01:37,014 But sometimes I do slip into the odd profile and mess with actual people.
33 00:01:37,097 --> 00:01:38,307 [all] Breanna!
34 00:01:39,266 --> 00:01:43,145 What? "Lying goes on" is my point.
35 00:01:43,229 --> 00:01:45,856 I already have trust issues. You're not helping.
36 00:01:45,940 --> 00:01:48,150 -Eliot? -Damn it, man.
37 00:01:48,234 --> 00:01:49,985 What kind of things do you lie about with women?
38 00:01:51,821 --> 00:01:53,155 I don't… [stammers]
39 00:01:53,239 --> 00:01:56,367 I just want to go home and get some sleep.
40 00:01:56,450 --> 00:01:58,118 [tires squeal]
41 00:02:01,831 --> 00:02:03,249 [siren wailing]
42 00:02:14,552 --> 00:02:16,011 Breanna, we just got pulled over.
43 00:02:16,095 --> 00:02:17,763 [Breanna] Okay, quick public service announcement.
44 00:02:17,847 --> 00:02:19,598 There may be a few items from last night's con
45 00:02:19,682 --> 00:02:21,016 in the hidden compartment of your trunk
46 00:02:21,100 --> 00:02:24,395 that your average John Q. Law might take issue with.
47 00:02:24,478 --> 00:02:26,272 All right, well, it's a hidden compartment.
48 00:02:26,355 --> 00:02:28,023 There's, like, duct tape and Sophie's wigs.
49 00:02:28,107 --> 00:02:29,733 A bag of lye, my knives.
50 00:02:29,817 --> 00:02:31,443 [Sophie] Speaking of murder rooms.
51 00:02:32,570 --> 00:02:34,321 -[stammers] -License.
52 00:02:35,573 --> 00:02:36,866 Hurry up, Long Hair.
53 00:02:42,371 --> 00:02:44,331 Luke Newman, huh?
54 00:02:45,291 --> 00:02:47,793 -Yeah. -Pop the trunk for me, would you, Luke?
55 00:02:47,877 --> 00:02:48,961 Pop the trunk?
56 00:02:49,044 --> 00:02:52,298 Already looking at a 300-dollar fine for speeding in a construction zone.
57 00:02:52,381 --> 00:02:55,217 Gonna add another hundred for that look you're fixing on me.
58 00:03:07,354 --> 00:03:09,231 Hey, man, take it easy.
59 00:03:09,315 --> 00:03:12,192 What you say? You been drinking, Long Hair?
60 00:03:12,943 --> 00:03:15,279 Get out of the car now.
61 00:03:20,993 --> 00:03:21,994 Back here.
62 00:03:24,663 --> 00:03:26,498 Eyes closed, head back.
63 00:03:26,582 --> 00:03:30,920 Touch the tip of your nose with your left index finger.
64 00:03:32,546 --> 00:03:33,547 Then your right.
65 00:03:35,215 --> 00:03:37,134 Do you want me to say the alphabet backwards?
66 00:03:37,217 --> 00:03:38,385 Are we done dancing here?
67 00:03:38,469 --> 00:03:40,554 -That's it, smart-ass. -[grunting]
68 00:03:40,638 --> 00:03:43,182 You and your car are coming in.
69 00:03:43,265 --> 00:03:46,185 See how smart you are then. You're under arrest.
70 00:03:46,977 --> 00:03:48,395 [grunts]
71 00:03:49,647 --> 00:03:53,692 Gillon? It's like 1100 people.
72 00:03:53,776 --> 00:03:57,613 Deep web says low per capita earnings and…
73 00:03:57,696 --> 00:03:59,615 Whoa, whoa. Hey,
74 00:04:00,282 --> 00:04:04,870 this place brings in 2.5 million dollars by ticketing motorists?
75 00:04:04,954 --> 00:04:06,705 What the hell is going on in that town?
76 00:04:07,706 --> 00:04:09,792 Looks like we're about to find out.
77 00:04:31,981 --> 00:04:33,565 Do you have any snacks? [sighs]
78 00:04:34,149 --> 00:04:35,609 Sorry. I'm not an Uber.
79 00:04:35,693 --> 00:04:37,987 Okay. Thanks for the lift.
80 00:04:38,070 --> 00:04:39,071 Least I can do.
81 00:04:39,154 --> 00:04:41,281 Our town has an unfriendly way of greeting folks.
82 00:04:41,365 --> 00:04:42,866 We noticed.
83 00:04:42,950 --> 00:04:44,118 Hi, Jack!
84 00:04:45,035 --> 00:04:46,537 We're capable of a lot better.
85 00:04:48,789 --> 00:04:50,082 This your poetry book?
86 00:04:50,582 --> 00:04:51,709 [Jack] You caught me.
87 00:04:51,792 --> 00:04:54,920 I'm a sucker for Yeats. I find him very, uh…
88 00:04:55,004 --> 00:04:58,966 Honest. Well, his… his pain is honest.
89 00:04:59,049 --> 00:05:00,092 [Jack] His pain?
90 00:05:00,175 --> 00:05:04,638 Then you like his early, romantic work. And you seemed so sophisticated.
91 00:05:04,722 --> 00:05:07,683 Uh… It's, um… It's just my accent.
92 00:05:08,350 --> 00:05:11,395 I'm intrigued by your accent.
93 00:05:11,937 --> 00:05:13,647 Why's this guy Yeats in pain?
94 00:05:13,731 --> 00:05:15,691 He was in love with a woman he couldn't have.
95 00:05:15,774 --> 00:05:17,818 He was in love with a woman who wouldn't have him.
96 00:05:17,901 --> 00:05:20,320 -There's a difference. -So there is.
97 00:05:21,155 --> 00:05:23,240 Have you been? To Ireland?
98 00:05:23,323 --> 00:05:26,994 No. I haven't traveled nearly as much as I'd like… yet.
99 00:05:27,077 --> 00:05:28,662 -[phone ringing] -Excuse me.
100 00:05:30,873 --> 00:05:31,874 Frank.
101 00:05:32,875 --> 00:05:33,959 Yeah, I got meds.
102 00:05:35,586 --> 00:05:37,671 Okay, keep it calm, and I'll be there in five.
103 00:05:40,424 --> 00:05:43,177 The Gustafson's Bombay kitten. Could be a broken leg.
104 00:05:43,260 --> 00:05:44,636 You're also the town vet?
105 00:05:45,429 --> 00:05:48,974 [stammers] I'd say I'm the vet who's also the town tow truck driver.
106 00:05:49,058 --> 00:05:50,768 Let me drop you ladies in a good spot
107 00:05:50,851 --> 00:05:53,479 where you can wait for your friend to see the judge, hmm?
108 00:06:01,862 --> 00:06:04,156 -Are you thinking what I'm thinking? -Yes.
109 00:06:04,239 --> 00:06:07,826 A guy that good-looking who reads poetry, and in a very unlikely twist,
110 00:06:07,910 --> 00:06:09,870 helps kittens, but lives in the middle of--
111 00:06:09,953 --> 00:06:12,664 -I could crush a stack of pancakes. -Oh, yeah. That too.
112 00:06:14,792 --> 00:06:17,169 Good morning. Have you tried the pancakes?
113 00:06:17,252 --> 00:06:19,046 No? Uh, would you recommend the pancakes?
114 00:06:19,129 --> 00:06:21,548 Hmm, you like pancakes. Hey, are the pancakes any good?
115 00:06:22,382 --> 00:06:26,261 Running the bank was the simplest job I could find for you, Clyde.
116 00:06:26,345 --> 00:06:29,890 But you're handing out loans to anyone with a sob story.
117 00:06:30,390 --> 00:06:34,937 If that bank fails, it's not just on you, it's on me. Straighten it out.
118 00:06:36,522 --> 00:06:37,523 Go.
119 00:06:40,484 --> 00:06:41,777 [sighs]
120 00:06:44,029 --> 00:06:46,281 Ethel, would you look here at this omelet?
121 00:06:46,365 --> 00:06:49,493 It's got green and red peppers instead of just red.
122 00:06:49,576 --> 00:06:51,912 If I wanted green, I would have ordered green,
123 00:06:52,454 --> 00:06:55,791 and you of all people should know no one around here is above my orders.
124 00:07:16,103 --> 00:07:17,437 Y'all, listen up.
125 00:07:18,397 --> 00:07:21,567 You're going in front of the judge in ten minutes.
126 00:07:21,650 --> 00:07:22,818 What you talking about?
127 00:07:22,901 --> 00:07:25,195 You haven't even told me what charges are against me.
128 00:07:25,279 --> 00:07:28,198 Keep your trap shut till it's time to speak.
129 00:07:28,282 --> 00:07:30,951 Then you plead guilty or no contest.
130 00:07:31,034 --> 00:07:34,204 Pay your fine and maybe we'll let you off with a slap on the wrist.
131 00:07:34,788 --> 00:07:35,998 Don't worry about him.
132 00:07:37,583 --> 00:07:38,709 Find Harry.
133 00:07:39,793 --> 00:07:42,171 I might need a good lawyer on this one.
134 00:07:42,254 --> 00:07:43,881 He's in court all week.
135 00:07:43,964 --> 00:07:46,091 Breanna, see if you can get a message to him.
136 00:07:47,759 --> 00:07:52,472 -You're Ethel? Your food's delicious. -Hmm. These pancakes are so good.
137 00:07:52,556 --> 00:07:54,349 [chuckles] Aw, that's sweet to say.
138 00:07:54,433 --> 00:07:57,102 It's too good for you to be this empty during the breakfast rush.
139 00:07:57,186 --> 00:08:03,775 So, um, that friend of yours is important enough to demand the perfect omelet,
140 00:08:03,859 --> 00:08:08,488 but he does nothing about the biker gang outside scaring off your customers.
141 00:08:08,572 --> 00:08:09,573 Who is he?
142 00:08:09,656 --> 00:08:13,702 That there is Armin Brewster, Gillon's mayor for 15 years.
143 00:08:13,785 --> 00:08:15,245 Mayor. Right.
144 00:08:15,329 --> 00:08:18,165 And I used to run the town paper, back when we still had one.
145 00:08:18,248 --> 00:08:20,876 I'm guessing you didn't have much favorable commentary.
146 00:08:20,959 --> 00:08:25,839 I admit, the next nice thing I write about our mayor might be the first nice thing.
147 00:08:26,757 --> 00:08:31,637 Ladies, always nice to see new faces in our fair hamlet.
148 00:08:31,720 --> 00:08:33,263 What brings you in?
149 00:08:33,347 --> 00:08:35,432 Oh, we're just passing through.
150 00:08:35,515 --> 00:08:36,934 It's a lovely town.
151 00:08:37,517 --> 00:08:38,518 It's a shame, though,
152 00:08:38,602 --> 00:08:41,939 that whoever's in charge does nothing about the riffraff outside.
153 00:08:42,022 --> 00:08:43,607 That's a bit sloppy.
154 00:08:45,150 --> 00:08:47,194 Well… [chuckles]
155 00:08:47,277 --> 00:08:51,073 Well, you know, perhaps I'll see you fine folks again soon.
156 00:08:51,657 --> 00:08:55,994 Uh, people tend to stick around Gillon a little bit longer than expected.
157 00:08:56,078 --> 00:08:57,079 [scoffs]
158 00:08:57,621 --> 00:08:59,748 [groans] Forgot my wallet.
159 00:09:04,711 --> 00:09:08,423 Want my advice, the last thing you wanna do around here is piss off the mayor.
160 00:09:08,507 --> 00:09:09,716 [chuckles]
161 00:09:11,385 --> 00:09:13,637 [Breanna] Okay, Eliot, Harry sent a text.
162 00:09:13,720 --> 00:09:16,223 He said if they're letting you plead no contest,
163 00:09:16,306 --> 00:09:18,141 just pay your fines and go home.
164 00:09:18,767 --> 00:09:22,104 May I ask you a question? What happens if we plead not guilty?
165 00:09:22,187 --> 00:09:27,150 Just means a whole lot of time in our one very small jail cell
166 00:09:27,234 --> 00:09:31,697 while we dial up a magistrate and they come all the way in from the parish seat.
167 00:09:31,780 --> 00:09:33,448 Not sure it's worth the hassle.
168 00:09:33,532 --> 00:09:38,495 Besides, last thing you wanna do around here is piss off the judge.
169 00:09:39,496 --> 00:09:41,748 All rise for the judge.
170 00:09:47,587 --> 00:09:49,715 It's Brewster. He's the mayor.
171 00:09:50,215 --> 00:09:52,301 [Eliot] Wait, he's the mayor and the judge?
172 00:09:52,384 --> 00:09:54,011 [Breanna] Hey, Sophie, are you sure?
173 00:09:54,094 --> 00:09:56,763 Or, we may have a twin situation on our hands.
174 00:09:56,847 --> 00:09:59,558 [gasps] Or clones. Let's not jump to any conclusions.
175 00:09:59,641 --> 00:10:00,809 There's no way this is legal.
176 00:10:00,892 --> 00:10:03,478 Of course not. You're not allowed to clone another human being.
177 00:10:03,562 --> 00:10:07,816 [Breanna] Okay. I got Harry. He says it is legal in several states.
178 00:10:07,899 --> 00:10:09,568 It's called a Mayor's Court.
179 00:10:10,110 --> 00:10:12,988 Okay, so the mayor can serve as judge in that court,
180 00:10:13,071 --> 00:10:15,699 and he-he doesn't even need a law degree to run it.
181 00:10:15,782 --> 00:10:17,326 This is absurd.
182 00:10:17,409 --> 00:10:20,662 [stutters] Raising millions of dollars in a town he runs
183 00:10:20,746 --> 00:10:24,291 with fines he imposes with no outside oversight?
184 00:10:24,374 --> 00:10:26,293 [Eliot] Yeah, well, the local cops are in on it too.
185 00:10:26,376 --> 00:10:29,129 It's a total shakedown. Probably lining their own pockets.
186 00:10:29,212 --> 00:10:30,213 -Mmm. -Hmm. Yeah,
187 00:10:30,297 --> 00:10:32,549 I wonder if all the police are just clones of the sheriff.
188 00:10:32,632 --> 00:10:33,967 -Parker. -What?
189 00:10:34,051 --> 00:10:35,052 [gavel bangs]
190 00:10:35,135 --> 00:10:38,764 Something you'd like to say, uh, Mister…
191 00:10:38,847 --> 00:10:40,974 It's Newman, Your Honor.
192 00:10:41,600 --> 00:10:45,020 "200 for attitude. Miscellaneous offenses."
193 00:10:45,562 --> 00:10:48,565 And how about we add 200 for resistance?
194 00:10:48,648 --> 00:10:50,692 Oh, you really haven't seen resistance yet.
195 00:10:51,985 --> 00:10:54,279 And another 200 for disruption.
196 00:10:54,363 --> 00:10:55,781 Okay, there's no point in trying to pro--
197 00:10:55,864 --> 00:10:57,949 200? [scoffs] You can do better than that.
198 00:10:58,033 --> 00:11:01,036 Oh, you want more? How about 400 then?
199 00:11:01,119 --> 00:11:02,871 -[townspeople murmur] -[Parker] Oh, See? I knew it.
200 00:11:02,954 --> 00:11:04,539 They can double anything in this town.
201 00:11:06,583 --> 00:11:11,380 Ah. [chuckles] Just passing through, huh?
202 00:11:11,880 --> 00:11:15,467 Well, how about we add an even grand to get your car out of hock.
203 00:11:15,550 --> 00:11:17,469 See how quickly you'll be on your way.
204 00:11:17,552 --> 00:11:18,553 -What? -[Brewster] Mm-hmm.
205 00:11:18,637 --> 00:11:19,971 -A thousand dollars? -[Brewster] Hey.
206 00:11:23,308 --> 00:11:24,684 Who's gonna pay for this?
207 00:11:24,768 --> 00:11:27,145 -[sighs] -This gentleman has captured my attention.
208 00:11:27,229 --> 00:11:30,273 Looks like we're gonna be adding another mayor to our collection.
209 00:11:30,357 --> 00:11:32,984 And we should take down his judge clone too.
210 00:11:33,985 --> 00:11:35,612 Let's go steal a town.
211 00:11:39,157 --> 00:11:41,618 -[bicycle bells ringing] -[imitates barking]
212 00:11:46,957 --> 00:11:50,001 Our peach festival brought people in from across the region,
213 00:11:50,085 --> 00:11:51,753 far back as anybody can remember.
214 00:11:51,837 --> 00:11:53,088 And then the mill shut down.
215 00:11:53,171 --> 00:11:55,298 Yeah. Shipped the whole operation overseas.
216 00:11:55,382 --> 00:11:59,010 Bank had to step in, and the town shriveled to a rind overnight.
217 00:11:59,094 --> 00:12:00,887 And that's when Brewster showed up?
218 00:12:00,971 --> 00:12:04,182 Said he'd protect us from corporate greed like the people who shut down the mill.
219 00:12:04,266 --> 00:12:07,102 So, Gillon's just a, uh, speed trap now.
220 00:12:07,185 --> 00:12:10,105 He puts the squeeze to any strangers driving through.
221 00:12:10,188 --> 00:12:12,274 If he can't get enough, he comes after us.
222 00:12:12,357 --> 00:12:15,068 Most people have had to sell their cars to pay Brewster's fines.
223 00:12:15,152 --> 00:12:16,611 -That explains the bicycles. -Mmm.
224 00:12:16,695 --> 00:12:19,281 Got a few spare out back for y'all if you want 'em.
225 00:12:19,364 --> 00:12:21,491 Well, how does Brewster keep getting reelected?
226 00:12:21,575 --> 00:12:24,286 About 75,000 in a campaign war chest.
227 00:12:24,786 --> 00:12:26,788 Steamrolls over anybody who runs.
228 00:12:27,289 --> 00:12:29,499 If you do run, there tend to be consequences.
229 00:12:30,083 --> 00:12:31,376 Such as?
230 00:12:31,460 --> 00:12:32,544 [bikers clamoring]
231 00:12:32,627 --> 00:12:34,045 [Sophie] Ah.
232 00:12:34,129 --> 00:12:38,175 But there must be a town council who could rein him in.
233 00:12:38,258 --> 00:12:39,968 Town council's only three men:
234 00:12:40,051 --> 00:12:43,472 Clyde Brewster, Armin's younger brother, then Sheriff Pinkus--
235 00:12:43,555 --> 00:12:46,725 So, Brewster has two votes in his pocket no matter what.
236 00:12:46,808 --> 00:12:49,728 Who's the third? And please, please say it's a good person.
237 00:12:49,811 --> 00:12:51,646 Ethie, just fixed the compressor on the walk-in.
238 00:12:51,730 --> 00:12:54,065 Won't hold forever but she's still kicking.
239 00:12:54,149 --> 00:12:56,359 Perfect timing. We were just talking about you.
240 00:12:56,443 --> 00:12:57,652 We-Were we? Hmm?
241 00:12:57,736 --> 00:13:03,658 The third vote on the Gillon Town Council: My annoyingly perfect big brother.
242 00:13:03,742 --> 00:13:05,118 Jack.
243 00:13:05,202 --> 00:13:08,497 Sophie. Uh, this is Parker and Eliot.
244 00:13:08,580 --> 00:13:09,956 But your sister,
245 00:13:10,040 --> 00:13:13,043 she was just saying that this isn't an easy town to be a good person in.
246 00:13:13,126 --> 00:13:18,006 But we try. For the town. For her.
247 00:13:18,089 --> 00:13:20,300 -[bicycle bell rings] -Ethel! Hi, Ethel!
248 00:13:22,552 --> 00:13:23,720 Excuse me.
249 00:13:30,852 --> 00:13:31,895 Look, I get it, all right.
250 00:13:31,978 --> 00:13:34,439 But we can't run a con like this on the fly.
251 00:13:34,523 --> 00:13:36,358 You know that. I don't have my food truck.
252 00:13:36,441 --> 00:13:38,902 There's no time to prep. The mark has seen us.
253 00:13:38,985 --> 00:13:41,279 But he doesn't know who we are.
254 00:13:41,363 --> 00:13:44,282 Um, all we have to do is separate Brewster from his campaign fund
255 00:13:44,366 --> 00:13:46,952 and we can level the playing field for the next election.
256 00:13:47,035 --> 00:13:50,288 All right. Next week we come back, huh?
257 00:13:50,372 --> 00:13:52,958 Let me go get a little shut-eye. Recharge the old--
258 00:13:53,041 --> 00:13:55,001 -No, it's not even gonna take long. -[stammering]
259 00:13:55,085 --> 00:13:56,795 -We run a Field of Dreams. -Mmm.
260 00:13:56,878 --> 00:13:58,964 If we build it, he will come.
261 00:14:03,009 --> 00:14:06,555 As you requested, Sophie, I give you Luke Newman.
262 00:14:06,638 --> 00:14:12,352 Once a famous somewhat abrasive driver-turned-visionary track designer.
263 00:14:12,435 --> 00:14:13,979 You do like racing cars.
264 00:14:14,062 --> 00:14:15,939 I'm not saying that it's not gonna work.
265 00:14:16,022 --> 00:14:19,025 I'm telling you if this "Apex300" was an F1 competitor,
266 00:14:19,109 --> 00:14:22,237 they'd be doing it in Vegas or Miami or Monte Carlo.
267 00:14:22,320 --> 00:14:25,824 Yes, and I'm saying that they've grown tired of the bureaucracy of the city.
268 00:14:25,907 --> 00:14:29,244 Here, they can control a new racing mecca top-down
269 00:14:29,327 --> 00:14:31,788 and make Gillon synonymous with their brand.
270 00:14:31,871 --> 00:14:36,001 Fine. All right? Just… I… Just do it.
271 00:14:36,585 --> 00:14:41,673 Breanna, to clarify, once a famous driver, still very much abrasive.
272 00:14:41,756 --> 00:14:45,218 Then, I give you Helena von Strom of Swedish descent.
273 00:14:45,302 --> 00:14:47,846 She's a daredevil and the product of racing royalty,
274 00:14:47,929 --> 00:14:50,974 and the future face of the entire Apex300 brand.
275 00:14:51,057 --> 00:14:53,810 -And of course… -Tia Salabianchi.
276 00:14:53,893 --> 00:14:56,146 Rainmaker, nonpareil.
277 00:14:56,229 --> 00:14:57,856 A few carefully planted articles
278 00:14:57,939 --> 00:15:01,776 that she whispers in the ear of Apex's governing board.
279 00:15:02,277 --> 00:15:05,405 And that is how you hook the little fish.
280 00:15:06,823 --> 00:15:11,411 Miss Salabi… bianch… Beyoncé?
281 00:15:11,953 --> 00:15:14,372 Salabianchi. But Tia will be fine.
282 00:15:14,456 --> 00:15:17,375 And this is the First Bank of Gillon, yes?
283 00:15:17,459 --> 00:15:18,835 Yes. Um, Clyde.
284 00:15:18,918 --> 00:15:22,255 Now, why exactly, uh, do you want to purchase the Old Mill grounds?
285 00:15:22,339 --> 00:15:24,299 And a particular piece of land
286 00:15:24,382 --> 00:15:27,677 that stretches from the highway right to its doorstep,
287 00:15:27,761 --> 00:15:32,182 which… [inhales] …I believe the bank owns the deed to.
288 00:15:32,265 --> 00:15:34,059 Who, may I ask, is, uh, looking to--
289 00:15:34,142 --> 00:15:37,020 Clyde, the consortium whose interest I've attracted
290 00:15:37,103 --> 00:15:40,148 to this pure patch of American countryside,
291 00:15:40,231 --> 00:15:42,817 they don't like to have their name tossed around willy-nilly
292 00:15:42,901 --> 00:15:45,111 before the T's have been crossed if you get my gist.
293 00:15:45,195 --> 00:15:48,031 Of course, uh, Ms. Salaba… Tia.
294 00:15:48,865 --> 00:15:51,743 But couldn't you just make one tiny exception? [chuckles]
295 00:15:51,826 --> 00:15:54,204 -To help grease the wheels, yes? -Yes. Yes.
296 00:15:54,287 --> 00:15:59,459 No. So, I've written my last, best and final offer on the back of that card.
297 00:15:59,542 --> 00:16:01,961 Now, Clyde, speed is my business.
298 00:16:02,045 --> 00:16:03,755 I'm gonna be back here in three hours,
299 00:16:03,838 --> 00:16:07,592 fully prepared to sign and with details for wiring the down payment.
300 00:16:07,676 --> 00:16:09,427 -[phone ringing] -[gasps] Oh. Look at that.
301 00:16:10,303 --> 00:16:12,555 I must take this call. It's my partners on the deal.
302 00:16:13,056 --> 00:16:15,475 Ciao. Si.
303 00:16:15,558 --> 00:16:17,644 [scoffs] Yep, it's perfect for the tour.
304 00:16:17,727 --> 00:16:19,938 No, Luke's there now with Helena and they love it.
305 00:16:20,021 --> 00:16:22,691 Oh, 350,000 spectators
306 00:16:22,774 --> 00:16:26,361 and we can build an off-ramp straight from the highway to the racetrack.
307 00:16:32,575 --> 00:16:34,577 [line rings, clicks]
308 00:16:34,661 --> 00:16:36,079 [Clyde] Armin, I'm telling you,
309 00:16:36,162 --> 00:16:39,082 she took a call from these Apex300 guys right in front of me.
310 00:16:39,165 --> 00:16:40,792 Calm down, Clyde.
311 00:16:40,875 --> 00:16:43,294 You obviously got your wires twisted somewhere.
312 00:16:43,378 --> 00:16:46,631 Well, have you looked her up yet? Her people are out there right now.
313 00:16:48,967 --> 00:16:51,970 All right. All right, this could be legit.
314 00:16:53,346 --> 00:16:56,558 Hey, you did the right thing calling me in on this, little brother.
315 00:16:56,641 --> 00:16:58,518 Good work. I got it from here.
316 00:16:59,060 --> 00:17:02,021 Thank you. Uh, one more thing, Armin. Uh, hello? Arm--
317 00:17:02,605 --> 00:17:04,023 Get yourself over to the Mill.
318 00:17:04,607 --> 00:17:07,610 Find these interlopers and figure out what the hell they're up to.
319 00:17:12,657 --> 00:17:15,034 And that's how you hook the bigger fish.
320 00:17:19,080 --> 00:17:20,081 [grunts]
321 00:17:20,165 --> 00:17:22,167 [country music playing on radio]
322 00:17:25,378 --> 00:17:27,505 Is there nothing you can't fix?
323 00:17:28,131 --> 00:17:29,632 I'm good with my hands.
324 00:17:30,300 --> 00:17:35,555 Uh. "When one gets quiet, then something wakes up inside one."
325 00:17:35,638 --> 00:17:39,225 "Something happy and quiet like the stars."
326 00:17:39,309 --> 00:17:41,519 You do know your Yeats.
327 00:17:41,603 --> 00:17:43,438 What about you? How you doing?
328 00:17:45,106 --> 00:17:49,277 "Sometimes my feet are tired and my hands are quiet,
329 00:17:49,360 --> 00:17:52,197 but there is no quiet in my heart."
330 00:17:52,822 --> 00:17:54,032 I'm sorry to hear that.
331 00:17:54,616 --> 00:17:56,242 You ever want respite, I have an empty bed.
332 00:17:57,327 --> 00:18:00,246 -[laughs] -I-I-I mean at my B and B.
333 00:18:00,330 --> 00:18:02,999 -Oh. [chuckles] -Six rooms. Farm-to-table menu.
334 00:18:03,625 --> 00:18:06,336 Well, it's, um, tempting,
335 00:18:06,961 --> 00:18:09,964 but we're leaving town tonight.
336 00:18:10,590 --> 00:18:13,426 Well, you know where to find me if you change your mind.
337 00:18:14,928 --> 00:18:15,929 [chuckles]
338 00:18:30,610 --> 00:18:32,070 Next drop's on Thursday.
339 00:18:34,364 --> 00:18:39,118 Clyde. Ready to conclude our business? Progress waits for no one.
340 00:18:39,202 --> 00:18:42,330 Hey, well, actually, there's someone here you need to speak with first.
341 00:18:42,413 --> 00:18:43,957 I'll take you to them. Yeah.
342 00:18:48,169 --> 00:18:54,509 Ah. Ms. Salabianchi. [chuckles] Please, take a seat.
343 00:19:01,599 --> 00:19:05,061 Now, I'd like to hear a little more about this elaborate
344 00:19:05,144 --> 00:19:10,108 and presumably pricey Apex300 venture you're considering for my town.
345 00:19:10,191 --> 00:19:12,777 Apex300? No, I'm sorry.
346 00:19:13,278 --> 00:19:15,572 Mr. Brewster, I have no idea what you're talking about.
347 00:19:15,655 --> 00:19:18,283 Oh, no? Well.
348 00:19:26,207 --> 00:19:27,959 Even if you're right,
349 00:19:28,042 --> 00:19:30,420 the gears of any deal would already be in motion.
350 00:19:30,503 --> 00:19:31,796 We'd have the governor looped in.
351 00:19:31,880 --> 00:19:33,882 A few state senators would have
352 00:19:33,965 --> 00:19:36,009 -quietly put their fingerprints on it. -Right.
353 00:19:36,092 --> 00:19:38,970 If we were, let's say, planning a track,
354 00:19:39,470 --> 00:19:43,850 we'd be too far along to introduce any new partners now.
355 00:19:43,933 --> 00:19:48,271 But if I were to, say, re-zone the Mill grounds
356 00:19:48,354 --> 00:19:49,981 for use as a grammar school,
357 00:19:50,064 --> 00:19:51,357 none of that would matter.
358 00:19:51,441 --> 00:19:56,195 And when your voters find out that you turned down an opportunity for them,
359 00:19:56,279 --> 00:19:58,364 uh, and the town to make some real money?
360 00:19:58,448 --> 00:20:03,453 My voters would prefer not to be placed at the whim of corporate titans ever again.
361 00:20:03,536 --> 00:20:06,581 Unless you get a piece of the proverbial action?
362 00:20:06,664 --> 00:20:08,416 [Eliot] Sophie, this guy should be hooked by now.
363 00:20:08,499 --> 00:20:09,792 Something doesn't sound right.
364 00:20:09,876 --> 00:20:13,838 I'll be there soon. Parker took my car to lure off the Sheriff.
365 00:20:13,922 --> 00:20:15,423 [inhales deeply]
366 00:20:15,506 --> 00:20:19,177 You are an unexpected challenge, Mr. Mayor.
367 00:20:19,260 --> 00:20:24,098 I suppose I could make room for a small investment from local officials,
368 00:20:24,182 --> 00:20:27,352 if it promotes good will in the community.
369 00:20:38,905 --> 00:20:39,906 [scoffs]
370 00:20:41,407 --> 00:20:43,451 He… He just left the bank.
371 00:20:43,534 --> 00:20:45,370 No investment. He didn't give me any money.
372 00:20:46,287 --> 00:20:49,499 I… There's a piece of this I'm not seeing.
373 00:20:49,582 --> 00:20:52,543 [Eliot] Sophie, I think I see a missing piece or two right here.
374 00:21:01,135 --> 00:21:02,720 A little message from the mayor.
375 00:21:03,304 --> 00:21:04,514 [both grunt]
376 00:21:04,597 --> 00:21:07,684 Take your Eurotrash pals and your racetrack and get outta here.
377 00:21:07,767 --> 00:21:09,686 [grunts] Okay. I got it. I got it.
378 00:21:09,769 --> 00:21:13,731 [laughs] Do you mind maybe giving my answer back to him?
379 00:21:13,815 --> 00:21:14,941 [both grunt]
380 00:21:15,942 --> 00:21:18,444 [grunting]
381 00:21:19,195 --> 00:21:20,822 [grunting]
382 00:21:21,739 --> 00:21:24,951 [bikers grunting, groaning]
383 00:21:29,455 --> 00:21:31,457 [grunting]
384 00:21:33,292 --> 00:21:35,003 [grunting]
385 00:21:42,552 --> 00:21:44,971 [grunting]
386 00:21:48,850 --> 00:21:50,476 [engines start]
387 00:22:00,653 --> 00:22:02,363 Definitely got a missing piece here.
388 00:22:02,864 --> 00:22:04,490 I got a kilo. [sniffs]
389 00:22:04,991 --> 00:22:06,075 Smells like detergent.
390 00:22:06,159 --> 00:22:08,453 -It's a cheap way to cut cocaine. -[engine revving]
391 00:22:12,415 --> 00:22:14,042 -Toss it. -Huh?
392 00:22:14,125 --> 00:22:17,795 -You're about to get arrested. Again. -[sirens wailing in distance]
393 00:22:18,755 --> 00:22:21,758 Well, I guess I'm not sleeping in my own bed tonight. All right.
394 00:22:22,633 --> 00:22:24,886 Parker, don't screw up the alignment!
395 00:22:30,433 --> 00:22:34,020 [Sheriff] Well, well, well. I got myself a long hair.
396 00:22:43,237 --> 00:22:46,115 Have you actually decided to trust me?
397 00:22:46,741 --> 00:22:49,994 Just wanted a peek behind the charming facade.
398 00:22:51,162 --> 00:22:52,163 Of the house.
399 00:23:05,093 --> 00:23:09,472 [sighs] Where did you learn to make a proper cup of tea?
400 00:23:09,555 --> 00:23:11,099 Read a lot about British culture.
401 00:23:12,058 --> 00:23:15,019 -Some of it just yesterday. [chuckles] -[chuckles]
402 00:23:15,103 --> 00:23:16,604 Why do you and Ethel stay?
403 00:23:16,687 --> 00:23:18,815 I mean, you did… You said you wanted to travel,
404 00:23:18,898 --> 00:23:20,608 and you could both do anything anywhere.
405 00:23:20,691 --> 00:23:22,610 It's our hometown.
406 00:23:23,111 --> 00:23:24,278 I trust these folks.
407 00:23:24,362 --> 00:23:26,322 If we could find some way to give them a chance,
408 00:23:26,405 --> 00:23:27,782 they could make something of this town again.
409 00:23:27,865 --> 00:23:29,075 "Trust"?
410 00:23:29,700 --> 00:23:31,244 You're not big on trust, are you?
411 00:23:31,327 --> 00:23:35,206 As a friend of mine used to say, "Hope is not a plan."
412 00:23:35,289 --> 00:23:39,585 All due respect, without hope, what's the point of having a plan?
413 00:23:40,253 --> 00:23:42,713 [sighs] But maybe that is crazy.
414 00:23:43,422 --> 00:23:45,466 Only time we were actually able to change anything here
415 00:23:45,550 --> 00:23:46,843 was when Brewster took vacation,
416 00:23:46,926 --> 00:23:48,970 and the town council elected a mayor pro tem.
417 00:23:49,053 --> 00:23:51,931 A majority on the town council can replace the mayor?
418 00:23:52,014 --> 00:23:53,933 [chuckles] The likelihood of Brewster's brother
419 00:23:54,016 --> 00:23:55,893 or the Sheriff voting for that isn't too high.
420 00:23:56,477 --> 00:23:57,645 [inhales deeply]
421 00:23:57,728 --> 00:23:59,897 Sorry. I gotta go. [sighs]
422 00:24:01,607 --> 00:24:06,320 Call me. I mean, if you need anything.
423 00:24:18,875 --> 00:24:20,001 That's amazing.
424 00:24:25,548 --> 00:24:28,593 What are you doing? What are you doing? I spent last night in a cell
425 00:24:28,676 --> 00:24:30,887 trying to keep the local drunk from using me as a pillow
426 00:24:30,970 --> 00:24:33,264 and you're snuggling in Jack's lap of luxury.
427 00:24:33,347 --> 00:24:34,724 Ah, he seems like a good guy.
428 00:24:34,807 --> 00:24:37,435 Especially the clone of him who made these popover thingies.
429 00:24:37,518 --> 00:24:39,020 Is that a glow in your cheeks?
430 00:24:39,103 --> 00:24:40,354 Glow?
431 00:24:40,980 --> 00:24:42,690 -There's no glow. -[chuckles] Mmm.
432 00:24:42,773 --> 00:24:46,319 It's just the-the fresh air. Can we get back to work, please?
433 00:24:46,402 --> 00:24:49,530 I heard that these bikers are pushing drugs at the local truck stop.
434 00:24:49,614 --> 00:24:52,408 -How'd you find that out? -His cellie told him. His new BFF.
435 00:24:52,491 --> 00:24:54,702 Well, they must be paying Brewster to look the other way.
436 00:24:54,785 --> 00:24:58,456 So, a high profile racetrack brings unwanted attention,
437 00:24:58,539 --> 00:25:00,249 upsets a very tenuous apple cart.
438 00:25:00,333 --> 00:25:02,126 Eliot, we can work with that.
439 00:25:02,210 --> 00:25:03,794 You don't have to convince me.
440 00:25:03,878 --> 00:25:06,672 Small town bullies? You… [sighs]
441 00:25:07,506 --> 00:25:09,008 Every war zone I've been in,
442 00:25:09,091 --> 00:25:12,178 every failed state that I've been in,
443 00:25:12,261 --> 00:25:13,930 armies are bad, government's bad.
444 00:25:14,013 --> 00:25:16,641 You know what I've seen? You know what's the worst I've seen?
445 00:25:17,516 --> 00:25:18,601 Is local stuff.
446 00:25:18,684 --> 00:25:22,021 Neighbor against neighbor. There's always a guy like this Sheriff.
447 00:25:22,104 --> 00:25:24,899 You know what I mean? Who wants it, who's looking for a-a chance,
448 00:25:24,982 --> 00:25:28,653 who uses muscle like these bikers and then throws up his hands and says,
449 00:25:28,736 --> 00:25:33,616 "No, yeah, I-I can't do anything. I can't stop people from being hurt."
450 00:25:34,784 --> 00:25:37,578 And you think it doesn't happen, places like here.
451 00:25:37,662 --> 00:25:41,415 These guys, this Sheriff, this mayor, they're seeds of it.
452 00:25:43,125 --> 00:25:46,087 So, we break them apart. Turn the bikers against the mayor.
453 00:25:47,713 --> 00:25:48,714 That's part of it.
454 00:25:48,798 --> 00:25:50,341 All right, well, we gotta be careful.
455 00:25:50,424 --> 00:25:53,511 These bikers start breathing heavy, they could blow the whole town away.
456 00:25:53,594 --> 00:25:58,099 Agreed. Hey, try this. I have the beginnings of a plan.
457 00:25:59,433 --> 00:26:02,228 Hmm? So? Come on.
458 00:26:03,062 --> 00:26:05,356 -Is he as good a cook as you are? -No.
459 00:26:10,945 --> 00:26:13,531 [bikers clamoring in distance]
460 00:26:22,164 --> 00:26:26,002 I should, uh, call Sheriff Pinkus and have him arrest you for loitering.
461 00:26:26,085 --> 00:26:29,880 Loitering is what your unsavory friends outside are doing.
462 00:26:29,964 --> 00:26:32,550 I have Ethel's full permission to be here.
463 00:26:34,427 --> 00:26:35,428 Vagrancy, then.
464 00:26:36,220 --> 00:26:38,723 According to this paperwork,
465 00:26:39,890 --> 00:26:41,892 I now have a job here at the diner.
466 00:26:43,269 --> 00:26:45,855 [smacks lips] Ms. Salabianchi.
467 00:26:46,564 --> 00:26:52,069 You know, you-you almost had me going, you and your two-bit con artist friends.
468 00:26:52,153 --> 00:26:54,780 But you read your mark all wrong.
469 00:26:55,448 --> 00:26:58,743 See, money ain't the point. Money's just a way to get power.
470 00:26:59,410 --> 00:27:00,453 I got all I want.
471 00:27:01,620 --> 00:27:05,291 See, small town power's about having just the right amount more
472 00:27:05,374 --> 00:27:06,459 than those beneath you.
473 00:27:06,959 --> 00:27:09,670 Too little and they don't fear you.
474 00:27:09,754 --> 00:27:12,631 Too much and… [clicks tongue] …they come for your head.
475 00:27:12,715 --> 00:27:14,175 Nah. [chuckles]
476 00:27:15,217 --> 00:27:18,220 Making sure all these people round this town do exactly what I tell them.
477 00:27:18,304 --> 00:27:21,515 Well, that's all a man like me could ever want.
478 00:27:23,934 --> 00:27:27,396 [chuckles] And I already have it.
479 00:27:27,480 --> 00:27:29,106 [laughs]
480 00:27:29,190 --> 00:27:33,944 Silly me. I underestimated the petty scope of your ambition.
481 00:27:34,028 --> 00:27:36,489 Well, you can stick around here as long as you like.
482 00:27:36,572 --> 00:27:40,993 I'll just be thinking up new ways for you to contribute to our town coffers.
483 00:27:41,077 --> 00:27:45,498 I expect I'll be seeing your little taillights leave Gillon by end of day.
484 00:27:46,374 --> 00:27:47,375 [Sophie] Hmm.
485 00:27:48,876 --> 00:27:53,005 There'll be taillights leaving Gillon tonight, Mr. Brewster.
486 00:27:54,757 --> 00:27:55,925 But they won't be mine.
487 00:27:56,801 --> 00:27:57,802 [chuckles]
488 00:28:01,722 --> 00:28:02,723 Sophie, I got 'em.
489 00:28:06,227 --> 00:28:08,229 Hey, Vince, look who it is.
490 00:28:10,689 --> 00:28:12,233 We want our coke back.
491 00:28:12,316 --> 00:28:15,611 Why are you harassing me? I'm the one that got arrested with it.
492 00:28:15,694 --> 00:28:18,697 All right? Go talk to your buddy the mayor if you want your coke back.
493 00:28:19,198 --> 00:28:20,533 Oh, that's right. You don't know.
494 00:28:20,616 --> 00:28:23,494 Brewster's running a huge drug operation with the cartels.
495 00:28:23,577 --> 00:28:24,787 Probably Mexican.
496 00:28:24,870 --> 00:28:27,998 Overheard him talking about it last night when he thought I was sleeping in jail.
497 00:28:28,707 --> 00:28:30,501 Not a chance. That's crap.
498 00:28:30,584 --> 00:28:34,088 He's running millions of drug dollars right underneath your nose
499 00:28:34,171 --> 00:28:35,840 and you guys are never gonna see a nickel.
500 00:28:35,923 --> 00:28:37,049 -[grunting, groans] -[grunting]
501 00:28:37,133 --> 00:28:38,759 -You wanna do this? -[grunting]
502 00:28:38,843 --> 00:28:39,927 Huh? You wanna do this again?
503 00:28:40,010 --> 00:28:42,763 Or you can hightail it to the truck stop, okay,
504 00:28:42,847 --> 00:28:45,099 where I hear the shipment's already there.
505 00:28:45,182 --> 00:28:46,058 [grunting]
506 00:28:47,685 --> 00:28:49,103 And I know where it's at.
507 00:28:53,983 --> 00:28:56,527 [engines start]
508 00:28:58,279 --> 00:28:59,280 [Vince] Open it.
509 00:29:14,420 --> 00:29:17,506 We need to go see Brewster now. [sighs]
510 00:29:20,384 --> 00:29:23,387 [Sophie] Okay, the trick is to get the detergent and cocaine mix just right
511 00:29:23,471 --> 00:29:24,555 on top of the flour.
512 00:29:27,850 --> 00:29:30,394 They bought it. Eliot, phase two.
513 00:29:45,659 --> 00:29:47,411 [screams]
514 00:29:47,495 --> 00:29:49,163 [clamoring, screaming]
515 00:29:52,958 --> 00:29:55,628 S… Uh, sir. Sir, what-what are you doing here?
516 00:29:55,711 --> 00:29:58,172 -Is there a problem? -I'm-I'm gonna have to ask you to leave.
517 00:29:58,255 --> 00:30:00,382 [screaming, clamoring]
518 00:30:00,466 --> 00:30:03,219 [Eliot] I don't take my mask off for religious reasons.
519 00:30:03,302 --> 00:30:05,971 Now, I'm here to open a checking account.
520 00:30:06,055 --> 00:30:07,431 Religious reasons?
521 00:30:07,515 --> 00:30:10,643 [Eliot] Oh, I'm sorry, is there a law against wearing a mask in a bank?
522 00:30:11,727 --> 00:30:13,854 [Parker] Oh, hello, beautiful.
523 00:30:13,938 --> 00:30:17,399 [Sophie] Parker, promise me you're just gonna steal the biker gang's money.
524 00:30:18,692 --> 00:30:21,612 Hey! Hands. Show me your hands!
525 00:30:22,905 --> 00:30:25,157 Any weapons on you? Any guns?
526 00:30:28,077 --> 00:30:29,495 On your knees.
527 00:30:29,578 --> 00:30:32,831 [groans, pants]
528 00:30:33,666 --> 00:30:36,252 What are you up to, Long Hair?
529 00:30:36,335 --> 00:30:38,337 I'm trying to open up a checking account.
530 00:30:38,420 --> 00:30:40,881 Because of the 4.9% introductory APY.
531 00:30:40,965 --> 00:30:43,676 Do I not qualify? It's only for a limited time.
532 00:30:43,759 --> 00:30:45,928 Clyde, you idiot.
533 00:30:46,011 --> 00:30:48,055 This guy's here just to cause trouble.
534 00:30:48,138 --> 00:30:52,768 Can't let crap like this waste my time and scare all these people.
535 00:30:52,851 --> 00:30:54,270 Come on.
536 00:30:55,187 --> 00:30:56,689 Let's go, Long Hair.
537 00:31:04,488 --> 00:31:08,993 [panting] What? No. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.
538 00:31:09,493 --> 00:31:11,120 No, no, no. No.
539 00:31:11,203 --> 00:31:13,122 [sighs, pants]
540 00:31:21,630 --> 00:31:24,008 [panting]
541 00:31:25,342 --> 00:31:26,427 [engine sputters]
542 00:31:27,595 --> 00:31:31,348 No. No, no, no. Come on, come on. Oh, no. [gasps]
543 00:31:31,432 --> 00:31:34,310 Oh, please. I can't talk to you about buying the old Mill right now.
544 00:31:34,393 --> 00:31:35,436 I gotta get outta here.
545 00:31:35,519 --> 00:31:37,438 It's a bit tricky without this.
546 00:31:37,521 --> 00:31:39,607 -[breathing heavily] -[clicks tongue] Oh, Clyde.
547 00:31:40,107 --> 00:31:41,942 You're in a spot of trouble.
548 00:31:42,026 --> 00:31:45,863 Roughly $200,000 belonging to your brother's biker friends
549 00:31:45,946 --> 00:31:47,865 has been stolen on your watch.
550 00:31:47,948 --> 00:31:51,243 -That is so much money. -So much money.
551 00:31:51,327 --> 00:31:52,620 True or false.
552 00:31:52,703 --> 00:31:56,081 Your own brother will give you up to keep the money train rolling.
553 00:31:57,249 --> 00:32:00,502 [inhales sharply] Can you imagine what they're gonna do to you?
554 00:32:00,586 --> 00:32:01,879 Probably involves a hammer.
555 00:32:01,962 --> 00:32:03,547 Oh, Clyde.
556 00:32:03,631 --> 00:32:06,383 You don't have a friend in the world except me,
557 00:32:07,259 --> 00:32:10,095 and I can make all your problems disappear.
558 00:32:10,179 --> 00:32:12,264 Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.
559 00:32:12,848 --> 00:32:15,100 -I never even wanted to run the bank. -No.
560 00:32:15,184 --> 00:32:17,227 -I studied horticulture. [breathes deeply] -Oh.
561 00:32:17,311 --> 00:32:18,854 Before I can help you,
562 00:32:19,647 --> 00:32:21,732 you're gonna have to do me one teeny-tiny favor.
563 00:32:23,942 --> 00:32:25,569 Hmm. [chuckles]
564 00:32:25,653 --> 00:32:28,364 Looks like we got a crowd here for our next sentencing.
565 00:32:28,447 --> 00:32:30,616 Actually, before we do, Mr. Mayor?
566 00:32:31,116 --> 00:32:32,242 Here we go.
567 00:32:32,326 --> 00:32:33,869 Uh… [stammers] …let's have it.
568 00:32:33,952 --> 00:32:37,122 These folks are here because I called an emergency meeting of the town council
569 00:32:37,206 --> 00:32:38,957 to elect a new mayor pro tem.
570 00:32:39,041 --> 00:32:41,085 [people gasping, murmuring]
571 00:32:41,168 --> 00:32:43,796 [chuckles] I know, I know I'm gonna regret asking this.
572 00:32:43,879 --> 00:32:46,507 Who… Who do you have in mind to replace me with?
573 00:32:46,590 --> 00:32:47,716 Him.
574 00:32:50,260 --> 00:32:51,929 Long Hair?
575 00:32:52,596 --> 00:32:54,139 [Brewster laughs]
576 00:32:54,223 --> 00:32:56,642 A man who is just minutes away
577 00:32:56,725 --> 00:32:59,395 from spending his second straight night in our jail?
578 00:33:00,562 --> 00:33:06,026 Your sister's rag of a newspaper ain't even around anymore to cover this stunt.
579 00:33:06,110 --> 00:33:08,737 Clyde, you're here. Let's get this over with.
580 00:33:09,780 --> 00:33:13,450 Calling this insult to democratic freedoms to order.
581 00:33:15,160 --> 00:33:16,662 Sheriff Pinkus, what say you?
582 00:33:16,745 --> 00:33:20,082 [laughs] Not a chance. Opposed.
583 00:33:20,666 --> 00:33:21,875 In favor.
584 00:33:21,959 --> 00:33:26,755 Jack, a lesser man than I might take offense to this attempt.
585 00:33:26,839 --> 00:33:27,840 I'm in favor.
586 00:33:27,923 --> 00:33:31,176 -[townspeople gasp, murmur] -[stammers] No, Cly… Clyde,
587 00:33:31,260 --> 00:33:34,722 in favor means you want this drifter to be mayor.
588 00:33:34,805 --> 00:33:36,724 You're opposed to the motion.
589 00:33:36,807 --> 00:33:38,267 I said I'm in favor.
590 00:33:38,350 --> 00:33:40,436 [Jack] I think we all heard him Brewster, loud and clear.
591 00:33:40,519 --> 00:33:42,396 Two votes in favor to one opposed.
592 00:33:42,479 --> 00:33:44,064 Jack, what the hell is going on?
593 00:33:44,148 --> 00:33:45,357 Clyde.
594 00:33:46,442 --> 00:33:48,235 Clyde. Clyde!
595 00:33:48,318 --> 00:33:51,238 Where the hell do you think you're going?
596 00:33:51,321 --> 00:33:52,531 Well, you can't-- [grunts]
597 00:33:57,286 --> 00:34:00,497 [townspeople cheer, applaud]
598 00:34:01,081 --> 00:34:02,374 Quit taking pictures of me.
599 00:34:03,375 --> 00:34:05,878 Clyde! Clyde, remember your roots.
600 00:34:05,961 --> 00:34:07,504 Get the hell outta my way.
601 00:34:08,297 --> 00:34:09,298 Clyde.
602 00:34:10,632 --> 00:34:11,633 Clyde!
603 00:34:12,134 --> 00:34:14,052 When were you gonna tell us about this new drug deal…
604 00:34:14,136 --> 00:34:15,554 -Hey-- -…you got going on, Brewster?
605 00:34:15,637 --> 00:34:17,431 -[stammers] What drug deal? -Huh?
606 00:34:17,514 --> 00:34:19,224 -Yeah, I figured you'd say that. -Wha-- Hey--
607 00:34:19,308 --> 00:34:20,934 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Vince, Vince--
608 00:34:21,018 --> 00:34:22,478 -Relax, cop. -[stammering] Come on, man.
609 00:34:22,561 --> 00:34:23,812 [Vince] Get your hands off, Pinkus.
610 00:34:23,896 --> 00:34:26,106 [Pinkus] Violence is never the answer, gentlemen. You know that.
611 00:34:26,190 --> 00:34:29,151 -[tires squeal] -[Parker] And there goes Brewster.
612 00:34:29,234 --> 00:34:33,697 But that leaves these bikers here in town. Running their coke, terrorizing people.
613 00:34:33,781 --> 00:34:36,158 How's the new mayor gonna fix this all on their own?
614 00:34:36,658 --> 00:34:37,659 We need real help.
615 00:34:38,243 --> 00:34:39,244 Where's the calvary?
616 00:34:40,287 --> 00:34:42,039 At the right moment, they'll be here.
617 00:34:44,166 --> 00:34:45,167 Probably.
618 00:34:46,418 --> 00:34:47,419 Possibly.
619 00:34:47,503 --> 00:34:51,215 [inhales deeply] I trust.
620 00:34:55,260 --> 00:34:57,554 To clean up this town, we need the people's trust.
621 00:34:57,638 --> 00:35:00,474 Breanna, how's the engagement on the social media campaign?
622 00:35:00,557 --> 00:35:05,896 Okay, had to retrofit my dating bots and sign 'em up for Gillon's "WatchParty" app.
623 00:35:06,563 --> 00:35:08,857 I have these bots pinging comments back and forth
624 00:35:08,941 --> 00:35:12,945 and getting people amped up on Eliot… pardon, Mayor Newman.
625 00:35:13,028 --> 00:35:15,322 Hmm. Another article?
626 00:35:15,405 --> 00:35:18,492 Gotta remind people what made this place special to begin with.
627 00:35:18,575 --> 00:35:20,327 I finally get to take the gloves off.
628 00:35:21,745 --> 00:35:23,497 -Hey, did-- Oh. [chuckles] -Excuse me.
629 00:35:24,456 --> 00:35:25,457 Um…
630 00:35:25,541 --> 00:35:28,836 Did you read the draft of Ethel's article in the new online Gazette?
631 00:35:28,919 --> 00:35:31,505 [Breanna] "Newman may not be the change we expected,
632 00:35:31,588 --> 00:35:33,215 but he's the change we needed."
633 00:35:33,298 --> 00:35:37,970 I'll buy that. Linked it to socials, and I am headed up to you all in Gillon.
634 00:35:38,053 --> 00:35:39,555 I'll be there in about an hour.
635 00:35:39,638 --> 00:35:43,100 And how's our revolutionary face of change doing right now?
636 00:35:43,183 --> 00:35:46,520 [townsperson 1] I filed that paperwork to put up a neon sign.
637 00:35:46,603 --> 00:35:49,106 [townsperson 2] But when it's on, all the mayflies come flutterin' about.
638 00:35:49,189 --> 00:35:51,233 I do not like mayflies, Mr. Mayor.
639 00:35:51,316 --> 00:35:55,028 What if you close your window, huh? Then the mayflies won't bite ya.
640 00:35:55,112 --> 00:35:56,363 Mayflies don't bite.
641 00:35:56,446 --> 00:36:00,826 Then why do you care if mayflies are flying around his neon sign?
642 00:36:00,909 --> 00:36:05,664 Well, it just reminds me that the mayflies are out there. [shudders]
643 00:36:05,747 --> 00:36:06,748 Go sit down.
644 00:36:13,338 --> 00:36:14,256 Damn it.
645 00:36:14,965 --> 00:36:17,509 [Sophie] Eliot, these people are just hoping you'll listen to them.
646 00:36:17,593 --> 00:36:18,677 Hoping you can help.
647 00:36:21,263 --> 00:36:22,681 [shrieking]
648 00:36:22,764 --> 00:36:24,600 [Sophie] They've been waiting so long for someone
649 00:36:24,683 --> 00:36:26,184 who understands what they've been through.
650 00:36:26,852 --> 00:36:28,770 They need a mayor who, at the very least,
651 00:36:28,854 --> 00:36:30,939 seems willing to combat their problems alongside them.
652 00:36:31,023 --> 00:36:33,150 -What are you looking at? -[gasps]
653 00:36:33,233 --> 00:36:37,487 [Sophie] To face the threats even if it's just for a moment.
654 00:36:37,571 --> 00:36:39,114 [townspeople cheering]
655 00:36:39,197 --> 00:36:40,574 [Sophie] They need a mayor.
656 00:36:43,660 --> 00:36:45,287 Sophie, the bikers just went into the vault,
657 00:36:45,370 --> 00:36:47,831 and they did not look happy when they came in.
658 00:36:47,915 --> 00:36:50,250 Misplacing $200,000 often has that effect.
659 00:36:50,334 --> 00:36:52,669 Just push them over the edge.
660 00:36:52,753 --> 00:36:53,837 -[bikers clamoring] -[stammers]
661 00:36:53,921 --> 00:36:55,672 -[Vince] Where the hell's our money? -[biker 1] Where'd it go?
662 00:36:55,756 --> 00:36:57,966 Hey! Hey, I'm talking.
663 00:36:58,467 --> 00:36:59,426 -Hey! -Yeah.
664 00:36:59,509 --> 00:37:00,636 Where's Clyde?
665 00:37:00,719 --> 00:37:04,473 Uh… [stammers] …he's sick. So… I'm his assistant.
666 00:37:04,556 --> 00:37:06,016 Clyde's supposed to be here.
667 00:37:06,099 --> 00:37:10,437 Our safety deposit boxes are empty. All our cash is gone. What's going on?
668 00:37:10,520 --> 00:37:13,732 I am so sorry. This is just… This is really… This is awful.
669 00:37:13,815 --> 00:37:15,692 I do happen to be new here at First Bank,
670 00:37:15,776 --> 00:37:19,112 but I heard you had a little bit of a break-in recently?
671 00:37:19,196 --> 00:37:20,614 Well, next time, I suggest putting your money
672 00:37:20,697 --> 00:37:21,949 -in a checking account. -[biker 1] Vince, let's run.
673 00:37:22,032 --> 00:37:23,283 Let's go, man. Come on.
674 00:37:23,367 --> 00:37:26,995 We do have a 4.9% introductory APY if you're interested.
675 00:37:28,163 --> 00:37:30,540 -You can pick everything up down the hall. -[Vince] Hey, chump.
676 00:37:31,041 --> 00:37:32,042 Get outta here!
677 00:37:33,877 --> 00:37:34,878 What's up, guys?
678 00:37:35,545 --> 00:37:39,466 I'm in the middle of cutting a deal to try get these neighborhood kids a jungle gym.
679 00:37:39,549 --> 00:37:40,759 You know, the one with the zip line--
680 00:37:40,842 --> 00:37:44,096 You're not in control here, Mayor. You only think you are.
681 00:37:44,179 --> 00:37:46,515 You get the same deal we had with Brewster.
682 00:37:46,598 --> 00:37:48,976 You take your cut and look away while we do our thing.
683 00:37:50,644 --> 00:37:51,645 Nah.
684 00:37:51,728 --> 00:37:55,565 No, see, I don't think I'm gonna cut anymore deals that hurt this town.
685 00:38:00,445 --> 00:38:04,324 We just called the thunder down, Sophie. I think it's on its way.
686 00:38:05,784 --> 00:38:08,578 [bikers clamoring]
687 00:38:11,623 --> 00:38:14,042 Eliot, that thunder just arrived.
688 00:38:15,419 --> 00:38:18,755 [Vince] New mayor cares so much about the people of this town?
689 00:38:18,839 --> 00:38:20,007 You tell him,
690 00:38:20,799 --> 00:38:24,302 either he's gone for good tonight, or you are.
691 00:38:29,558 --> 00:38:30,851 [bikers clamoring]
692 00:38:30,934 --> 00:38:33,061 [Vince] I'll burn this whole damn town and everybody in it.
693 00:38:33,895 --> 00:38:37,524 Hmm. That is an adequate amount of gasoline.
694 00:38:37,607 --> 00:38:39,860 [chuckles] And trust me, I know fire.
695 00:38:40,485 --> 00:38:43,030 What are we gonna do? This town'll be gone by morning.
696 00:38:43,113 --> 00:38:44,781 The diner'll go up like a tinderbox.
697 00:38:44,865 --> 00:38:46,199 It's gonna be fine.
698 00:38:46,283 --> 00:38:47,242 How?
699 00:38:47,325 --> 00:38:50,954 Ethel, the plan was never about knocking out a corrupt mayor.
700 00:38:51,496 --> 00:38:54,166 It was about trying to convince the people of this town to rise up
701 00:38:54,249 --> 00:38:56,043 -and save it for themselves. -[bicycle bells ringing]
702 00:38:56,126 --> 00:38:57,878 They just needed a spark.
703 00:38:57,961 --> 00:39:02,090 You are that spark. Gillon's fiercest champion.
704 00:39:02,674 --> 00:39:07,012 And now I'm trusting that the people who love and know you,
705 00:39:07,095 --> 00:39:10,223 they read your words, and they heard your call to action.
706 00:39:12,017 --> 00:39:13,894 [bikers clamoring]
707 00:39:13,977 --> 00:39:15,437 [siren wailing]
708 00:39:16,229 --> 00:39:17,773 [horn honks]
709 00:39:21,234 --> 00:39:22,569 Hey, hold on!
710 00:39:22,652 --> 00:39:23,653 [horn honks]
711 00:39:27,824 --> 00:39:29,367 -[tires screech] -Hey, bro, hold on!
712 00:39:29,451 --> 00:39:30,535 Whoa, whoa! Stop!
713 00:39:37,709 --> 00:39:38,794 If you guys want a fight,
714 00:39:38,877 --> 00:39:40,337 you'll have to take on every last person in Gillon.
715 00:39:46,843 --> 00:39:49,805 Think it through, Vince. Cut your losses.
716 00:39:51,181 --> 00:39:52,891 This town ain't yours anymore.
717 00:39:59,272 --> 00:40:01,441 -[Jack] Drop it. -[townsperson 1] Yeah, drop it!
718 00:40:01,525 --> 00:40:04,069 [townspeople] Drop it! Drop it! Drop it! Drop it!
719 00:40:06,571 --> 00:40:07,614 Roll out.
720 00:40:08,949 --> 00:40:11,409 -[engines rev] -[townspeople cheer]
721 00:40:14,996 --> 00:40:16,832 [chuckles] Let's go.
722 00:40:18,375 --> 00:40:19,376 [Ethel gasps]
723 00:40:20,585 --> 00:40:22,087 Oh, Jack!
724 00:40:24,089 --> 00:40:25,298 He's the fire chief too?
725 00:40:26,091 --> 00:40:28,677 -Yes, he is. -Of course he is.
726 00:40:28,760 --> 00:40:31,972 But the bikers are the ones who scared off Mayor Brewster.
727 00:40:32,055 --> 00:40:34,808 With them gone, how do we stop him from coming back?
728 00:40:34,891 --> 00:40:37,018 Let us worry about that.
729 00:40:37,102 --> 00:40:38,395 [chuckling]
730 00:40:39,813 --> 00:40:42,816 Be honest with me. How many clones do you have?
731 00:40:43,316 --> 00:40:44,609 Parker. Parker, come on.
732 00:40:44,693 --> 00:40:46,194 -[Parker] What? -[Breanna] Listen.
733 00:40:46,278 --> 00:40:50,073 -[mouths inaudibly] -I've gotta give you a hug! Thank you.
734 00:40:50,157 --> 00:40:53,368 I'll tell you what. They did us a favor by getting rid of that motorcycle club.
735 00:40:53,451 --> 00:40:58,039 Now, I'm gonna find Clyde, get his ass under thumb.
736 00:40:58,123 --> 00:41:00,083 You make sure you call for another vote.
737 00:41:00,167 --> 00:41:02,460 -Be back in city hall before-- -[sirens wail]
738 00:41:02,544 --> 00:41:06,214 Oh, what now, damn it? How fast were you going?
739 00:41:06,882 --> 00:41:10,051 [stammers] Maybe 68 in a 55. Nothing crazy.
740 00:41:10,135 --> 00:41:11,678 [Sheriff] You made this a construction zone.
741 00:41:11,761 --> 00:41:13,638 -It's 35 now. -[Brewster] Construction?
742 00:41:13,722 --> 00:41:16,433 Th-There's not another piece of industrial equipment here for miles.
743 00:41:16,516 --> 00:41:18,226 -Well, you-- -What the hell are you talking about?
744 00:41:18,310 --> 00:41:20,520 -[Pinkus] But you-- -Shut up. Just let me talk.
745 00:41:21,062 --> 00:41:22,063 [sighs]
746 00:41:23,064 --> 00:41:24,065 [clears throat]
747 00:41:26,401 --> 00:41:28,737 You. You're not a cop.
748 00:41:29,362 --> 00:41:33,575 If you can appoint yourself judge, I think the new mayor can make me a cop.
749 00:41:33,658 --> 00:41:37,287 Now that's $200 for not respecting authority!
750 00:41:37,370 --> 00:41:40,248 Driver, pop the trunk, and step out of the car.
751 00:41:40,957 --> 00:41:42,250 You too, dingus.
752 00:41:43,210 --> 00:41:44,711 -Dingus? -Yeah, you are a dingus.
753 00:41:44,794 --> 00:41:47,339 -I'm not a dingus. -You're the most dingus of all dinguses.
754 00:41:49,674 --> 00:41:50,842 [Sheriff] What the…
755 00:41:51,927 --> 00:41:54,137 Wait. What the hell is this?
756 00:41:54,221 --> 00:41:57,724 Maybe the cash that was recently stolen from the First Bank of Gillon.
757 00:42:06,691 --> 00:42:08,235 -What the hell? -[stammers]
758 00:42:08,318 --> 00:42:09,903 -I'm taking you both in. -[groans]
759 00:42:09,986 --> 00:42:13,990 Grand theft, reckless stupidity, driving like jerks.
760 00:42:14,074 --> 00:42:16,201 -This is ridiculous. [grunts] -[stammers] Get--
761 00:42:16,284 --> 00:42:17,285 Get in!
762 00:42:33,969 --> 00:42:36,221 Hello, hello. [chuckles] Hi, everyone.
763 00:42:36,304 --> 00:42:41,059 Come a little closer 'cause we are about to unveil
764 00:42:41,142 --> 00:42:46,690 your future mayor's inspiring vision for the historic Old Mill and the ground,
765 00:42:46,773 --> 00:42:47,941 so let's gather.
766 00:42:48,024 --> 00:42:49,693 Come gather, come gather near the tent.
767 00:42:49,776 --> 00:42:52,112 [townspeople cheering, applauding]
768 00:42:53,071 --> 00:42:54,281 I'm gonna turn these on.
769 00:42:56,157 --> 00:42:58,410 -How's it looking? -Well, we will find out in a minute
770 00:42:58,493 --> 00:43:00,453 if the mayor can stop playing with the concert venue.
771 00:43:00,537 --> 00:43:02,539 You have to have the perfect mix of scale and intimacy
772 00:43:02,622 --> 00:43:04,291 if you want the big acts to sign on.
773 00:43:05,709 --> 00:43:08,712 Thank you so much for bringing me onto this project, Ms. Salabianchi.
774 00:43:08,795 --> 00:43:11,381 Clyde, you were such a big part of this.
775 00:43:11,464 --> 00:43:14,467 And the people of this town, they're not gonna forget the sacrifice you made.
776 00:43:15,593 --> 00:43:18,013 Everybody's waiting. I think it's ready. [inhales sharply]
777 00:43:18,096 --> 00:43:19,139 I'll go get Ethel.
778 00:43:19,764 --> 00:43:22,517 How's our girl doing on social media engagement?
779 00:43:22,600 --> 00:43:25,478 She's crushing it. And I'm not even using my bots.
780 00:43:25,562 --> 00:43:28,940 I-I do think Ethel has this election pretty much in hand.
781 00:43:29,024 --> 00:43:31,276 And the future of Gillon.
782 00:43:31,359 --> 00:43:32,736 Any word about its recent past?
783 00:43:34,863 --> 00:43:38,658 Just watch where you're sitting next time. You don't have to bawl in the toilet.
784 00:43:39,284 --> 00:43:41,077 You kept us in there for two days.
785 00:43:41,161 --> 00:43:44,247 What on earth was going on out here that was so damn important--
786 00:43:44,331 --> 00:43:45,999 Very sorry to keep you waiting.
787 00:43:46,082 --> 00:43:48,460 Took some time to get here from the parish seat.
788 00:43:48,543 --> 00:43:50,086 I'm the new magistrate.
789 00:43:51,129 --> 00:43:52,630 What did Newman do?
790 00:43:52,714 --> 00:43:54,007 Corrected an oversight.
791 00:43:54,090 --> 00:43:57,594 He split mayoral duties from those of this court, now and forever.
792 00:43:57,677 --> 00:44:00,263 But while we're on the subject of corrections,
793 00:44:00,347 --> 00:44:03,767 I've seen compelling evidence that you two were party to selling cocaine
794 00:44:03,850 --> 00:44:07,979 at a truck stop up 175 for roughly the past ten years.
795 00:44:08,855 --> 00:44:10,523 Thankfully, I'm not your attorney,
796 00:44:10,607 --> 00:44:14,235 but I suggest you plead one of two ways with which you might be familiar.
797 00:44:14,319 --> 00:44:16,363 Guilty or no contest.
798 00:44:18,114 --> 00:44:19,282 You can defend us, right?
799 00:44:20,617 --> 00:44:24,996 You were a judge for the last 15 years. You have to know something about the law.
800 00:44:27,165 --> 00:44:30,960 Armin. Armin! Armin!
801 00:44:31,044 --> 00:44:32,420 Let's go, Mr. Mayor.
802 00:44:32,504 --> 00:44:34,130 -[chuckles] Mr. Mayor. -[stammers] Stop.
803 00:44:34,214 --> 00:44:36,132 Thought you said you wanted to sleep in your own bed.
804 00:44:37,509 --> 00:44:40,929 I'll never be able to thank you for all you've done for me. For us.
805 00:44:41,012 --> 00:44:43,556 Yeah, well, it was kinda gonna happen on its own.
806 00:44:43,640 --> 00:44:45,308 We just sped things up.
807 00:44:45,892 --> 00:44:47,268 You're welcome here anytime.
808 00:44:47,352 --> 00:44:48,311 Thank you.
809 00:44:51,147 --> 00:44:53,566 Hey, Sophie. Are you ready to go?
810 00:44:54,150 --> 00:44:58,863 Um, actually I… You guys should probably get going without me.
811 00:44:58,947 --> 00:45:00,198 I, um…
812 00:45:01,324 --> 00:45:03,743 [smacks lips] I think I'm gonna stick around for a few days.
813 00:45:04,828 --> 00:45:08,081 -She must really like his… -Popover thingies.
814 00:45:08,164 --> 00:45:11,418 Yeah, Parker, that's exactly why she's staying.
815 00:45:11,501 --> 00:45:13,378 -I'm driving. -No, you're… [stammers] No.
816 00:45:13,461 --> 00:45:15,422 [stammers] We're gonna get pulled over in the next town.
817 00:45:15,505 --> 00:45:16,673 [Breanna] Ooh, shotgun!
818 00:45:16,756 --> 00:45:18,133 [Eliot] You're not getting shot… Get in the back.
819 00:45:18,216 --> 00:45:19,509 [Breanna] I always gotta get in the back seat.
820 00:45:19,592 --> 00:45:21,010 -[Eliot] Get in! -[Parker] Stopping for burgers.
821 00:45:21,094 --> 00:45:22,637 -[Eliot groans] -[Breanna groans] I gotta pee.
822 00:45:22,720 --> 00:45:23,721 [Eliot] Parker!
823 00:46:04,637 --> 00:46:05,722 Things might get ugly.
824 00:46:05,805 --> 00:46:08,850 With the money he embezzled from our clients, a church.
825 00:46:08,933 --> 00:46:10,518 He was gambling with our money.
826 00:46:10,602 --> 00:46:13,313 -Hurley knows what to do. -He's gonna cool off the mark.
827 00:46:13,396 --> 00:46:16,274 -We're gonna get our money back. -I'm looking for Detective Dale Lancer.
828 00:46:16,357 --> 00:46:17,859 -What? -I'm Clay Chapman,
829 00:46:17,942 --> 00:46:19,152 and I'm the victim of fraud.
830 00:46:19,235 --> 00:46:21,529 -Breanna, you've got company. -Who the hell are you?
831 00:46:22,864 --> 00:46:24,073 You're going to need more than that, boy.
832 00:46:24,866 --> 00:46:26,034 [both grunting]
833 00:46:27,368 --> 00:46:30,413 You can kiss your three million goodbye.
834 00:46:30,497 --> 00:46:33,500 Herr Chapman? I'm afraid your balance is zero.

(Text version below the cut)
Welcome to Joyful June: a fanworks event where the goal is to let our favourite characters be happy!
The prompt calendar above is designed for maximum flexibility: if you can't do something for every single day in a week, you can still do one thing based around that week's theme!
(Or you can just do as much as you can anyway, whatever, the point is also for us to have some fun, but the completionism urge is strong)
Tag #JoyfulJune and #JoyfulJune25!
AO3 collection: joyfuljune25
What sorts of works?
Fanart, fanfic, music, anything that you would normally consider fanwork.
What fandoms are allowed?
This event originated on the Linked Universe discord, but any fandom is welcome! Be sure to tag the fandom clearly and if you're creating for something in a nested fandom make sure you tag the right one (Linked Universe rather than Legend of Zelda; Rings of Power rather than Lord of the Rings, etc.).
Will you be reblogging work?
I'll be following the tag and will do some reblogging, but I am but one person and can't guarantee I'll get everything, especially if a lot of people take part.
Do I have to do/post work on the day listed in the calendar?
Nope!
Is NSFW allowed?
Sure, but please tag it #NSFW and note that it won't get reblogged here (I'm keeping this blog PG).
Can I use GenAI?
No.
Any other rules?
Don't be a jerk.

felt really really sick & woke up at like 5 then went back to sleep (ofc my body still has to take its sweet sweet time to do that because does it matter how tired i am noooooo toss & turn for some time bitch) and then my mom kept waking me up from 7:30 -> 7:50 a.m. and when i finally regained enough consciousness to tell her that i can't go to school she starts yelling at me about making up excuses 😃 while im still barely able to keep my eyes open & my stomach is killing me to even stand. luckily did in fact skip school today. felt better by late afternoon??
guess who spent most of the day scrolling through pinterest lmao
