Actually, I was studying but then I saw a butterfly and it made me think about the impermanence of life and it made me think about Dead boy detectives.

I think there's another parallelism about Orpheus and Eurydice other than the obvious going-to-hell-to-retrieve-best-friend/love-of-his-afterlife-thing that Charles has going on.

I read the myth the other day and it said that after Eurydice died Orpheus played a song so heartbreaking that the gods started crying too and this is why Hades and Persephone took pity on him and allowed him to go to hell to retrieve his wife.

After Edwin is taken Charles begs the night nurse to open a door to hell to go and bring Edwin back. she refuses at first but then Nico convinces her to look into Charles's memories to see if she can trust him and while she does so she not only sees Edwin reading to Charles all night in hope of alleviatinng what he knows is about to happen but she witnesses Charles giving up his afterlife to stay with his friend.

And what does she do? she cries

Just like the gods in the original myth, she's so moved by the love they share that she decides to open the door to hell for Charles even if she cannot fully trust them to come with her to the lost and found department because she saw what kind of bond the two share, she knows what they wuold be willing to do to stay together.

i think that the ridiculously titled subsection of literature ("my boobs wife is transformed into a million dollar wizard and having sex with me is like antidepressants to her?!?!?!" ya know light novels and doujins and whatnot with names like that) allow for a lot of sneaky high concept writers to play around in subversive long form story telling. and when its good, baby its good.

i love wading through shlocky literature. if you never stop eating trash you will always be the first rat to find the perfectly preserved cornbread in the dumpster. the thrill of the hunt and finding love for the trash along the way makes me feel wonderful.
