That article was like a knife through the heart for Robin but for you it was a knife through the author's decaying and bleeding out body as you stab that fucker over and over again. Okay, maybe that was too violent but fuck you can't stand to see people say such bullshit about your girlfriend. She called you at work, crying and saying she couldn't do it anymore. You could barely make out her words through her sobs and the bad signal (which led you to believe she was hiding in the bathroom).

"Robin, baby, deep breaths- okay? I'm right here, it's okay."

It infuriates you, how people can run their mouths and say whatever bullshit that comes to their mind just because they're not satisfied with their own miserable lives. Just because they feel like dragging someone down would perhaps make themselves feel better about the fact that someone half their age is more successful than they will ever be. You want to tell her that you'll fucking find them and make their life a living hell but that's definitely not what she wants to hear right now.

"What do they want from me? I'm so tired, I don't wanna do this anymore."

All you really could do was continue to comfort her, hoping that she can pick up what you're saying through the static and cut offs due to bad internet. You just stayed with her until her cries became sniffles and she stated that she has to go before they suspect anything. You swallowed back your worry and just nodded.

"Okay. I love you, Robin.

You can feel her smile from across the phone.

"I love you."

That night you spent the entire evening in the kitchen, prancing around and trying not to burn the eight things you have going on the stove as you flip through your phone to find that recipe for the thing in the oven that looks horrifically bad.

"Ah fuck..."

You check the time- 8:03, she should be back soon. You finally find the recipe page and you feel your heart drop. Fuck, you were supposed to bake it for 30 minutes- not 50! No wonder that shit looked so wrong! You scramble to pull it out of the oven, the timer with 5 minutes left. You groan when you see how it looks- first it looked wrong and now it was probably burnt too. So much for making your girlfriend's favourite dessert.

"Love?"

The soft voice startles you, yelping as you dropped the cake pan.

"Shit!"

Robin stands there in all her glory. She looks exhausted, eye bags worse than before and shoulders sagged but to you she was still the most beautiful woman you have ever laid your eyes on.

"Everything okay?"

She tries to smile at you but it looks so forced. You feel your heart clenching in your chest as you pick up the cake pan from the ground, moving it back onto the counter.

"Baby, just let me take care of you tonight?"

You pull her in close, hugging her tight. She freezes at first, before completely melting in your grasp. She lets out a shaky sigh as she buries her head in the crook of your neck.

"I missed you."

Her voice is muffled against your shoulder but you just smile as you tiptoe to press a kiss to her forehead.

"I missed you so much, baby." You pull away, cupping her face with your hands as you brush your thumb against her cheek. "You look beautiful."

"Don't lie."

She gets flustered so easily, face turning pink as she looks away but she can't stop the small smile from forming on her face.

"I'm not. You look beautiful."

She sighs as she looks back at you, and the tired expression on your usual warm and happy girlfriend really does hurt you. The way the media can tear people down into nothing but the most insecure parts of themselves has always rubbed the wrong way with you but watching it happen to the one you love most is absolutely heartbreaking.

"I made you dinner?"

"I saw."

Her smile is not as forced now as she looks around the kitchen, a soft giggle escaping her lips.

"Quite a mess you made."

You just shoot an embarrassed grin at her as you tried to hide the cake pan behind your back.

"Well, I'm not a good cook."

"I think you did amazing."

She steps forward, caging you between the counter and herself.

"You make the worst days brighter, you know?"

"You make each of my days better. It's only fair I do the same to you."

Robin looks down, playing with her hands.

"I don't deserve you."

"Oh shut up."

The kiss was soft, gentle and loving. She cups your cheeks as she steps closer, bodies pressed against each other as you pour all the love you can convey through a simple act.

"I love you. I really love you so much, Robin." You say breathlessly to her when you pull away. She doesn't say much, only resting her head on your shoulder as she takes your hand into her own, lacing your fingers together.

"And I'm so proud of you for your new comeback. You've worked so hard and it paid off. You keep outdoing yourself and the people who don't see that can fuck off and die."

She sighs.

"No need for the violence, yeah?"

"Violence is always the answer."

You feel your heart flutter when she lets out a soft laugh, like a songbird's first melody of a new spring.

"You do whatever you want." She says, resting a hand on your chest as she leans in to press a quick but soft kiss to your lips. "Thank you- for this."

"Always."

The food you cooked was mostly inedible- resorting to the two of you ordering takeout together but you couldn't care less about the burnt cakes or undercooked mac and cheese. Robin is smiling again, and that's all you wanted to achieve for the night.

and that makes sense! For Vaggie the worst part about the day Lute maimed her was realizing maybe she herself had been the monster all along, what with the near child murder and then meeting a kind compassionate person down in hell, among all the people Vaggie was just slaughtering wholesale

so yeah, not really a Lute-centric trauma for Vaggie, even if Lute was the one physically scarring her as a result

from Lute's perspective here's one of the best examples of HER people, the exorcists, turning traitor and failing and implying that maybe Lute could fail somehow too. So to HER that sure is personal and very Vaggie orientated. Finding out the failed version of you is actually being happy and doing fine without the position you value or the respect of the power structure you protect, is in fact CHALLENGING your position and the validity of everything you are and the power structure that supports your sense of self, is a plenty good reason to wanna MAKE that alternate you SUFFER and REGRET leaving behind what you have. oh yes yes.... franema happy to talk about it. for starters just everything about how ema behaves herself in aa4 makes me believe that would be some excellent yuri because bitch4bitch femslash is always so important.

in general though i think they're two people whose lives are very centered around their work (as much of the main ace attorney cast is) but they center their work extremely differently in a way i think would cause the other person to question a lot about their own perspective. I think a situation where two characters can really ruffle each others feathers just by existing in proximity has a lot of good ship fodder.

i think in many ways franziska is what ema wanted to be. she's a child prodigy, competent and excelling in her field and earning respect from a very young age. meanwhile when she's several years older than fran was passing the bar ema is still just a high school student just dipping her nose into forensic science for the first time. by the time she's in her mid 20s ema still isn't at the level of career success fran reached in her teen years, being stuck as a detective after failures to pass the forensics exams. and i think it's really worth paying attention to the fact that Detective was specifically the job that lead to her sister's life turning to shit, so i think the longer and longer she stays trapped in that position the more she's gonna start feeling like the walls of her life are closing in on her. i know we don't know where fran is at career wise during this point in the timeline but my personal headcanon is that she ends up doing a lot of work with interprol and primarily specializing in prosecuting cases that take place across various countries' jurisdictions, and has had good success doing so.

Then on the flipside I think Fran see's ema's fully self-motivated passion for forensics as something enviable and admirable. Fran is i think someone who has spent her entire life running through a treadmill of carrots and sticks that dictated what her life was going to be like since she was born. Obviously prosecuting is the family trade and she was started extremely young, then pitted against someone much older for the majority of her childhood. I think the ebb and flow of validation or disinterest from her peers and family was such an overwhelming motivator that she never had the chance to even consider whether or not there's anything she's passionate about. As an adult, i think she does come to find an honest passion in her career but it's nothing like what ema has, it can't be decoupled from external validation, and that's something she's come to understand as a bit of a weakness.

Then interpersonally i feel like since ema is much more personable and socially adjusted than fran, i could feel that being something she instinctively kind of leverages against fran to try and level their playing field. like, okay, franziska may be this bigshot famous prosecutor (just like edgeworth, who ema wants sooo bad to impress) but ema can find ways to embarrass, frustrate, or otherwise fluster her in social settings so that's totally the same as being intellectual equals right. right. right. (<- thoughts of a girl who is definitely being normal about the situation). but i feel like fran could kind of learn to be grateful for the lack of deference ema treats her with and it could be a real first step to them actually getting to know each other better.

i feel like they'd have a lot of similar opinions on the broader aspects of life. i think they'd both be fine with a more casual relationship that involves a lot of traveling for work and isn't particularly romantic by a lot of people's standards. and i think it would be fun for them to fuck each other. overall it just works imo. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

much can be said about this ship and the anGst behind it and all that. i'm huGe on sashannarcy as a whole and i considered addinG that ship to this list but i thouGht talkinG about the dynamics of the pairs would be more interestinG sashanne is a stronG case of missed potential to me, a lot could have been done to make their dynamic a lot more compellinG even more-so than it already is and a lot could have been chanGed about the way they handled sasha's "redemption arc" in season 3. season 3 as a whole is a mess that i have many opinions on but that's for another day. despite all the flaws and missed potential this ship still aches me in the best way possible. they were 13 years old at the time of amphibia and they had to deal with ALL OF THAT. at aGe 13 sasha elizabeth waybriGht attempted actual honest to God suicide due to a fiGht she had with anne while lean on me was playinG in the backGround and the world was forever chanGed. amphibia was so held back by so much and the amount of missed potential in it (especially in season 3) kills me but despite all of that this relationship shined throuGh as one of if not the best part of the show for many people. As a rule, intermissions hold no plot points, but that doesn't mean that the points brought up won't be touched upon later. Essentially, these can be seen as filler. • Arval, being in a similar position as Sothis, is also accompanied by the two Shez's. However, they seem more interested in physical activity like dancing or making their own lantern.

• Hubert, while keeping an eye on Edelgard from the shadows, was scared half to death when he realized he was being watched by a masked spearman. While their face was covered, he could feel a glare that threatened to pierce his entire being. Truly, none can escape the eye of The Vigilant Yaksha.

• Lorenz could be found trading poems with Xingqiu or Hu Tao.

• Jeritza was accompanying Mercedes and was practically being harassed by Tartaglia's requests to spar after hearing about him from Felix.

• The Traveler and Paimon met Constance and Hapi. They were kind of put off by Hapi's seemingly uncaring tone, but it was cute how her tone would shift when talking about her Coco. Constance was bosting about house Nuvelle as usual. When the two groups parted, Paimon couldn't help but comment on how familiar Constance's behavior was, but she couldn't explain why.

• Ingrid had lost sight of Sylvain, and when she found him, he was talking to Shenhe. Assuming the usual was taking place, she grabs Sylvain by the ear, apologizes, and drags him off, leaving Shenhe confused, as they were just talking about flowers.

• Monica is attached to Edelgard at the hip, constantly trying to get her to wear some accessories she thought would look nice on her.

• Bernadetta, still on the boat, decides to paint the harbor as the lanterns lit up the city enough for her to see it, and her window gave her the perfect view.

• Linhardt tried getting books from Wanwen bookhouse, but he couldn't tell fact from fiction, as in he couldn't read Teyvat's writing. Due to language not being a topic of interest for him, he gives up.

• Caspar and Ignatz had left the city. Caspar had too much energy to stay in the harbor, and Ignatz wanted to paint Liyue from a good angle. Both had a chance encounter with Kazuha, who complimented their respective qualities.

• Balthus had told everyone about Genius Invokation and suggested it to them as well

If someone is absent from this, it means I couldn't think of anything involving them. My knowledge of certain characters is limited( I had to dig for Lorenz's poetry bit. ). Also, I know Yelan isn't really like that, but I put that in because I thought it might get a chuckle out of some people.

I found out Ben and Dainsleif was voiced by the Mr. Yuri Lowenthal. Imagine their relationship as probably teacher and student.

Imagine if in an alternate universe where Ben received a vision (any element you can think but I think it'll be dendro because it's green) Dain wasn't so pleased about it but he trains Ben anyways because yes

HOLY SHIT- HELP- YOU'RE RIGHT-

Ok- first and foremost, I think Ben would receive a Hydro vision than a Dendro one.

I know it's weird since my Ben had a Heart of Tandem with nature capabilities, but hear me out;

I found a note made by someone from Hoyolab that the element of the vision is usually associated with the user's personality or what they endured to get their vision.

Anemo - hardworking

Geo - perfectionist and/or calculative (also hardworking, but not to the extent of an Anemo would get)

Electro - black sheep

Dendro - obsessed

Hydro - charismatic and/or a huge sense of justice

Pyro - passionate and/or stubborn

Cryo - loss of loved ones (Chongyun is a bit of an exception due to can't handle heat)

This'll gonna be a whole thesis by the time I finished writing this-

For the reason I think Ben would get a Hydro vision was because he is indeed charismatic (although had a bit of an ego, but let's put that aside for now), and he also had a great sense of justice. The nation of Hydro is the nation of justice, and that doesn't include the fact that the Opera House is a theater stage and a courthouse as well, which symbolizes the both natures of the element they represent to the people who possess the element of Hydro.

Although it would be funny if Ben was initially wasn't happy with the element he got, and would want to have a Dendro vision instead of Hydro. But to even get a Dendro element, you have to have an obsession over something and fight it to the end goal. Ben doesn't have that, fame isn't his obsession (at least not anymore), and he doesn't necessarily have anything that would make him make it his prime focus like how Baizhu is trying to attain immortality. Ben's not like that.

You can argue that Ben's obsession could be of keeping everyone in the universe at peace and that's completely valid. It's just that Ben's personality as a whole overshadows that, similar how Noelle would've gotten an Anemo vision due to her hardworking nature, but because she's a perfectionist, it was overshadowed, and she got a Geo vision instead.

Still, I think Ben would've accept the vision anyways; who wouldn't? Manipulating elements and using them as a weapon to fight? Not to mention it's still accessable in all of his alien forms (to some extent). But I'm low-key sure Ben would mostly use it if he's human and wasn't able to turn into an alien at the time so he won't have to just keep getting the hit without fighting back.

Now about Dain, I would really love them to have a mentor-student relationship as well, it's an interesting concept indeed. I did once thought of Ben would've met the Abyss Sibling (in my case it's Aether cuz I have Lumine as my Traveler), but since we don't know how much time passed between the Abyss Sibling and Dain's split to the Traveler's starting venture, I would rather kept that by the time Dain and Ben met, Dain was no longer the Abyss Sibling's travel companion for the sake of it. And at the time, Ben hadn't received a vision yet.

It would be hella conflicting for Dain by the time Ben actually got a vision, because Dain still had no trust for the gods.

The only reason why Dain still had a relatively ok relationship with Ben was because Ben was pretty neutral about archons and Celestia, and he only got the vision because his will reached the heavens.

I have 2 weapon choices for Ben; polearm and claymore. It'd be hilarious if he had the sheer strength especially in his human form to carry around a claymore.

And since Dain looked like he's a sword wielder, I think it'll be great if he taught Ben how to properly wield a sword. The size of the sword isn't a problem, they're swords at the end of the day. Learn the basics, implant some new techniques yourself with and/or without your element, you're good to go.

Although Dain would still disappear more often and would visit once a blue moon since he's still chasing after Abyss Heralds and still seeking for the Loom of Fate. Ben would have plenty more time to implant his own techniques more than learning the basics of swordsmanship (but that does not mean he doesn't learn them altogether).

And about Khaenri'ah, Dain would definitely told Ben (and maybe Rook, Max, and maybe Azmuth for extra spice) about it, but he won't be very specific or too in detail about it, and would definitely tell Ben to "find out yourself".

Although Dain is distrustful of the gods, that doesn't mean Dain have to push his narrative onto Ben (because we all know that Khaenri'ah started the cataclysm by tampering with the power of the abyss *eyeing Rhinedottir*, which lead to Celestia to intervene because the abyss is spreading to the other nations).

As for if Ben would try to investigate about it himself, that really depends. He can't really abandoned his duties as the protector and peacekeeper so he can have an expedition, but he would be interested in finding out. If Ben actually decided to go through with it, it might be because he was pushed by Gwen, maybe even Azmuth (although unlikely).

In short, Dainsleif and Ben would be a great mentor-student duo, Ben would be cool with a vision (although he would really want a Dendro one, but it is what it is), and Ben would be interested in finding out about Khaenri'ah at some point if he was pushed enough.

frederica aesfrost triangle strategy. that is my GIRL. i dont know how many of you guys have played triangle strategy but me personally it changed my life. not gonna say too much because i dont wanna spoil it, but shes such a great female lead. shes basically fighting for the liberation of her people, the roselle, who the society of the game has basically condemned for no reason so if you go through her arc, you see how she deals with the pressure of having to free them, how hard it hurts to witness them in the state that theyre in, and the sacrifices she has to make to get what she wants and GOD. its so good. shes so good. also she cant fucking cook. me too girl.

3. What’s a female character you look up to?

ema skye ace attorney, specifically in aa4-6. ive never seen a character that made me go ‘GOD shes just like me fr’ like her (and apollo justice. but this isnt about him). i feel like it’s rare to see main characters like her really love something, and then FAIL pathetically at it. over and over. not that i enjoy seeing her not getting her forensic license, but it just feels so real. sometimes you love something and you’re so passionate about it but you just dont get it. and how does she react? is she still the bubbly ema you see in rfta with a “we’ll get em next time!” attitude? no!! no she’s not, she’s bitter, grumpy, snarky, dealing with the most annoying prosecutor of all time, and she’s so fucking real. be frustrated! be angry! life hands you shit cards you can be mad about how you have to play it! it’s nice seeing characters who pick themselves back up so easily, but most people arent like that and im certainly not, and seeing a character who’s just so honest about that is really refreshing. of course, she finally gets her dream in aa6, but that doesnt come without years and years of trying. in a universe where people are becoming lawyers at 18, it’s nice to see someone realistic. (im also trying to step foot into the forensic field eventually sooo… the fact that shes on the same path as me just kinda makes it hit harder, you know?)

5. A female villain you love?

pissing off both sides of the argument by calling her a villain and saying i love her but edelgard von hresvelg. before anyone says anything my favorite lord is yuri leclerc and the rest of them are equal in my heart <3 but edelgard clearly takes on more of a villain role in every route except her own, and even then she’s not entirely morally correct (duh). but i dont know. i wont say too much on your ask faye cuz i know you havent finished the other routes yet, but even when i played azure moon i couldnt bring myself to dislike her. her past with dimitri, the way she kept the dagger, and everything she reveals to you on her own path and how her past shaped her into who she is and what she wants and how she will stop at nothing to get it. i dont agree with the ends justifying the means, but i love characters who believe in that because it’s just so interesting. you want this thing so bad, nothing will stop you? your friends, your family, knowing you’re doing wrong because you think it’ll turn out right? what if it goes wrong. what if it blows up in your face? what if history remembers you as the villain forever? you’re already too deep in it i guess, so just keep going. shes so… ggrarghj. edelgard 🥹

6. A female character who got done dirty by the narrative?

athena cykes ace attorney. you’re telling me the entirety of aa5 is revolves around HER story, HER past, HER relationships, and it’s called “Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies”? the dual, by the way, refers to apollo. and you dont even play as athena during the climax of the game, you play as phoenix and shes just WATCHING. will they redeem her in aa6? you mean “Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice?” you mean the game where she gets ONE case on her own and it’s a FILLER CASE? admittedly a pretty good filler case but still. god. what the hell. i get phoenix sells but if you’re make new lawyers to take on his legacy, maybe? let them do that???

15. Female character you would defend with your life?

as usual there are so many to pick from. but i think this time i’m gonna pick nyx fire emblem. now, dont get me wrong. i will not defend her design. fates’ female dark mage design is pretty bad, especially since its used on ophelia and nyx. as much as i sincerely dont think nyx looks like a child as opposed to just a pretty short young woman, it’s…. blerghh. but aside from that? i cant STAND when people say shes just generic loli bait that acts like a child. because where? WHERE? point to where in her supports she acts like a child seriously. i know in her supports with charlotte she attempts to try it, but the point is that its unnatural and uncomfortable for her to do so. she is just. not like that. she doesnt try to play around like nowi or myrrh. shes not a child in dragon years or anything. shes just an older woman stuck in the body of a younger one, and if you would just READ one support, literally any of them, you would know that. but fates haters dont read, do they? clearly not. and its just a huge disservice to the rest of her character, which i think is incredibly beautifully written. shes such a standout in fates and i cant stand people ignoring that because “waaah nowi clone!” fuck you.

First, let's talk about the bouquet of azalea, red calla lily, thistle and amaranthus (love-lies-bleeding)

Meaning and why these flowers were chosen: Firstly, azalea, because it’s famously toxic and thus has been used as a death threat [...]. This fits my guy because he’s killed a vast number of people, and because his appearance and presence are generally threatening. But [...] it also symbolizes temperance, abundance, fragile or held-back passion, and prudence, which better suits his actual personality, as he’s a careful, reserved, thoughtful person with an abundance of intelligence; with the symbolism about passion, the only person he’s loved romantically he didn’t ultimately pursue or have a chance with, and even familial love for him tends to be an understated thing. Calla lily, because it symbolizes death and so does he, and because it also symbolizes rebirth and, from the right perspective, he’s certainly been reborn a couple times. I’d specifically go with red calla lilies, since those also symbolize determination and he is nothing if not devoted to his goals when it counts. Thistle, because it symbolizes pain, which he has both endured a lot of and dealt out a lot of; aggression, which for a while overtook him; and protection from evil, which he always does his best to provide. Amaranthus (love-lies-bleeding), because it can symbolize hopelessness and he spent quite a bit of his life full of despair; it also symbolizes immortality and he more or less has that Description: He’s an earnest, downtrodden person who tried to turn away from his ‘normal’ life because of something horrible that happened to his loved ones, but then once he came back into action, it turned into a long journey as far downhill as he could be pushed. He spent years half out of his mind [...] During this time, even those who might have considered him a friend before quickly considered him a lost cause and generally dehumanized him, which is even worse because their perspective there was understandable. He’s often very critical, and doesn’t necessarily know where to stop; he’s always been intense, and people are usually uncomfortable around him, whether it’s justified or not. He’s as moral a person as he can be—he’s not exactly anti-murder, but he has high standards, when he’s his usual self—and as practical as he can bear to be. He almost killed a (technical) family member once, but on the other hand he also helped them kill a personification of a cosmic force, so it balances out, right? He’s a weird mix of straightforward and mysterious, and an absolute icon of creepy good. He’s alive against all odds and extremely tired to a magical degree. He’s also, at least implicitly, in a lot of pain due to some murders. Physical pain, that is.

Meaning and why this picture was chosen: It means 'I wont forget you' which is DEEPLY on brand for her character. This is for two major reasons, the space yuri plot with the reincarnation thing that ends with them having to go separate ways to save the universe from imploding, and the fact that a lot of her actions a based on her mourning and canon severe complex PTSD. Description: - Extremely PTSD-riddled 20-something STEM major plagued by emails. - Grieving a lot of people and Really Going Through It but still manages to teeth-grit hold onto hope for the future. - Space lesbian subtext. - Friends include some space frat boys, her male workwife, a character that looks like every letter of the LGBT+ at once, and several robots. - Enjoys playing video games

what is it about monika that makes her ur fav character?

that’s a rly good question bc i know a lot of the fandom doesnt like her at all 😭

tldr: shes a complex female character with a lot of very interesting personality traits, and i think she’s the most realistic character to me specifically, because she feels like an actual person reacting to a crisis imperfectly (like how when people are drowning they can sometimes drown others while trying to save themselves)

long answer below the cut bc i’m nuts and have so so many thoughts

ok so what i think is really interesting about her is, according to everything the game tells us, before this she was just your normal popular girl. she did sports, she was everyone's friend, she was the lead of the debate team (which shows how charismatic and well spoken she is)

basically she was every kind sweet popular girl we knew and were friendly with but didn't Know.

and then one day she decides to leave the debate club? she decides, i want to pursue my passion for the last year! i want this to be a year i do something for me! and she starts the literature club

and then every thing falls apart around her because she's hit with the realization nothings real. all her memories, were they memories or just code? her friends are walking predestined courses of action. shes Completely alone, trapped in this world.

and it destroys her!! she's terrified, she doesn't know what to do. she actually considers deleting herself(killing herself) because this existence is so horrific.

and then we open the game

and she has hope. we are real! we are the life she knows she needs.

AND WHAT SPECIFICALLY KILLS ME?????

she doesn't cry for help, she doesn't tell us how scared she is, how we need to save her, how shes stuck here and this is all some sick game being played on Her. no, she plays along. she tries to befriend us and get close to us, before immediately realizing that. She Can't. she was made to be a tutorial character in a dating sim, her chance at freedom is fucked.

so she does what she thinks she can, and makes sayori more depressed in the coding to try and get her to leave Us alone. she just wants her to stay in bed, to stop interacting with us. she canonically doesn't even want to kill her???

LIKE LISTEN. shes a high school popular girl. do u think she has any idea how to code a video game?? no 😭

basically sayori + yuri are both due to her misunderstanding of both these girls and how intense their problems are, and how messing with their coding will affect them.

OK OK SO LIKE. look. we have this complex interesting girl, stuck in this horrific situation.

i think one thing i specifically think its so interesting about her is how she refuses to ask for help, she wants to play out a normal route with us so bad, trying to tweak the game to push us towards her. and it feels like there’s a part of her trying to play pretend that every thing Is normal. she wants to be a normal girl, in her last year of high school, she wants to go to college and hang out with her friends and write poetry with them 😭😭 But she Cant. because nothings normal and everything's wrong

basically, what i love about monika? shes so real. she's a terrified girl in a horrible situation and she's making mistakes and fucking up but trying to hold everything together with her own hands and her smile. and that REALLY gets to me.

AND ALSO???? the fact that, throughout the events of the game? every thing shes said? and been through? saying that the girls are just code and killing them is no different to offing npcs in any other game??? SHE STILL KEPT THEM. SHE NEVER DELETED THEM Q___Q she literally admits that she loved them too much to actually do anything like that, even if she Knows they’re just code, she still loves them and cares about them. that detail alone really really gets to me.

shes not some horrific murderer who delighted in tormenting her friends. shes a scared 18 yr old who's world just fell out from under her and she did what she could to try and pick her pieces back up and save herself instead of giving into despair. and i just really love that about her!

also tbc, while monika being complicit in sayori and yuri’s deaths was not good, and a very round about way of her trying to get to her end goal of Us, i don’t really think she did anything specifically Wrong, given the information she had? she didn’t know they were capable of sentience, she only realizes that at the very end when sayori is president! and she immediately deletes the game to try and spare sayori from the horror of that reality, which really really gets to me. she never could delete herself before, but to spare her friends from the hell shes been living in, she does so without thinking

at the end of the day , i really like complex imperfect female characters. i like it when they’re allowed to mess up and make mistakes, but still be a well rounded character who is, at the end of the day, a person!

I have zero shame in saying that this show (and all related media) has changed my whole life in so many ways! I’m also not shy about the fact that my heart belongs to Yuri (I think he's so cool!) so of course he was the obvious choice for who do draw and write a short, light hearted fic about (which you can read below the cut!)💚💙

I hope everyone has had a lot of fun on this day!

“Let’s see here… Kotetsu Kaburagi damage report… Kotetsu Kaburagi damage report… Kotetsu Kaburagi... damage report…” Yuri exhaled, massaging the bridge of his nose in exasperation as he leafed through a mountain of crinkled, coffee stained documents. It was of little to no surprise that the pile of paperwork that had been left on his desk while he was away on his lunch break could mostly be attributed to the more reckless half of Sternbild’s prized crime fighting duo. With  a sigh Yuri lifted the receiver of his phone, intending to politely  remind Tiger once again not to use his paperwork as a coaster. However,  before he could dial the number it had begun to ring.

“Justice department, Yuri Petrov speaking.” he answered, suppressing his annoyance and replacing it with his usual polite tone.

“Good afternoon Mr. Petrov, it’s Agnes. As you might be aware, today is the ten year anniversary of the Justice Tower’s remodeling.” She explained.

“Remodeling?”

“Yes. Ten years ago today all of the walls were repainted and appliances replaced to give it a more modern look to reflect a new era of Heroes.” She stated, as if that really explained anything at all.

“That is quite lovely to hear Ms. Joubert. The paint is, uh, a very nice color.” he stated politely, not even sparing a glance at the boring grey walls that surrounded him.

“Look, you don’t have to flatter me, I couldn’t care less about the paint color either. The sponsors are complaining that the returns on their investments are decreasing so we need to drum up some interest and we need to do it fast. Anything can be a reason to celebrate if you look at it right way, right? I mean, do you have any better ideas?”

“Ms. Joubert, I’m merely a judge… I apologize, but I don’t see what this has to do with me.”

“Yes, precisely! You’re a judge, bringer of justice, upholder of the law!” she passionately proclaimed “Apollon media stands for justice, as such it’s only natural that we feature a man of true justice like yourself..”

Yuri elicits a sound of smug approval and leans back in his chair “Well, I suppose when you word it in that way I may be able to see your point.”

“Fantastic! So, of course our main heroes are our star attraction, our second league heroes are a nice side dish, but you’re probably somewhere right below that when it comes to your importance in delivering justice. ”

“Oh… is that so?” Yuri asked as his briefly amused tone fell flat at her backhanded remark. Was she trying to insult him?

“Precisely.” she said as though she believed she had just bestowed upon him the complement of the century. “I was thinking, in a way you’re kind of like a minor hero yourself so maybe we could spin it as something like a ‘Meet Sternbild’s Hidden Heroes!’ segment. Of course we’ll save all the big questions for our real heroes but maybe at some point we could get your perspective on what you think of the decor of the tower and what it’s like to be a judge.”

As he began to feel the backs of his eyes grow warm he made the quick decision to end the call there before he lost his composure. “Agnes, you always have incredible ideas and I wish you all the best with pursuing that. Thank you for the information, I'll think it over. I’ll be returning to my paperwork now but please don’t hesitate to contact me again when you are in need of further assistance.”

“Oh, you're doing paperwork? In that case, this is actually a great opportunity. Stay put and act natural, I’ll be there in just a minute with the supplies and the film crew.” Agnes made a point of hanging up quickly before he even got the chance to protest.

Just as she’d promised, Agnes and her posse were barging into his office and shoving cameras in his face before he’d even been able to sign off on the first document. She wasted no time in bounding right up to his desk, turning towards the camera.

“Would you look at that, Sternbild’s very own Judge Yuri Petrov, hard at work as usual!” She gracefully spun around and held the microphone out to him “So tell us Yuri, what are you working on currently?”

He pursed his lips, just barely masking his disapproval. He had never been one for interviews, especially not while presenting simply as Judge Petrov, so he figured it best just to blurt out a few simple answers and get it over with quickly. “Well you see, Wild Tiger has again destroyed more property in one week than a group of delinquents could in their entire lifetime." He motioned to the papers in front of him "As you can see, I have a lot of damage reports that I need to-.”

It was rather frightening how suddenly Agnes was able to snap out of her charming, professional mode. “Hey! Take your job seriously!” she shouted, slamming her hands against his desk. “You’re supposed to say ‘Heh heh, I’m sure you would love to know but that’s confidential.’ and wink at the camera or something like that.”

“You’re right, my apologies." Yuri said. He tucked a lock of his hair behind his ears, shuffled his papers, and started again. Sorry, I can’t tell you what I’m working on as doing so would violate the code outlined in article 371 B of the Sternbild judic-”

“Ugh, forget it, moving on. Ahem, soooo Mr. Petrov, why don’t you tell us a little bit about what led you to become a judge and why serving justice is so important to you.”

“Ah, well that one is simple.” he said, putting on the vaguest semblance of a friendly smile “I believe that justice is important.”

Agnes nodded her head, the microphone still pointed at him for a moment longer. That is, until the moment passed without him saying anything else. “I-is that all?”

“I’m not sure what else can really be said on the topic.” he stated matter-of-factly.

“Jeez, who hired this guy…” she muttered. “Well, can you at least tell me what you think of the new penholders?”

“Aren’t these from ten years ago?”

“Well they’re newer to you because you only started working here just within the past two years.”

“Mm, I see… but couldn’t the same have been said for the pen holders that were here before the renovation if they were still here now? Does being new to me really make them new?”

Agnes lowered the microphone and gave him a look that would make even Lunatic tremble in fear. “Alright, I had hoped we could avoid it but you’ve left me no choice but to resort to plan B.”

The words “plan B” didn’t leave the most pleasant feeling in Yuri’s gut and, for a moment, he almost considered interjecting and asking to restart the interview. However, Agnes already had her mind made up and was knocking his paperwork and carefully arranged pens aside to make room for a large box displaying the company logo. She rifled through the contents, producing a large cupcake bearing red and green candles in the shape of the number ten among other various party related items.

“Bring it in.” Agnes motioned her crew closer to get a better shot as she rounded the corner of his desk and placed a large, blue and green party hat on his head, pressing it down to try and make it sit smoothly atop his curly hair. “You like these colors, right?” she asked, as if the colors were what might be wrong with this.

“Well, yes but…” he started, but she silenced him with a simple wave of her hand.

“Alright, great. Here, put this in your mouth.” she said, shoving a party blowout, rather reminiscent of Sky High's suit, towards his lips “Try not to get any lipstick on it, we need to reuse this for next year.”

“May I ask why you are making me do this?” Yuri asked, his resolve wavering.

“I’ve decided we’re doing a magazine interview instead. I’ll write out all of your answers for you, we just need a few photos of you to accompany them. Now, pretend like you’re having fun!” she reached back into the box, grabbed a handful of confetti, and sprinkled the colored paper over his head. “Cain, go go go!” she instructed, hoping not to have to waste all of their confetti on just one shoot.

Yuri complied, albeit begrudgingly, but only because it seemed to be the only way to put an end to this save for burning the place down. He gave her the smile she requested, posed with the cake, and shuffled his papers around a few more times to make it look like he had been working.

“Alright, that’s a wrap.” Agnes said at last “This should be enough to work with." She said as she began to pick what confetti she could from Yuri’s hair and place it back into the box.

“Ms. Joubert, I must ask, will something like this really be helpful to our image?” Yuri sighs.

Agnes closes up the box and sets it on the floor beside his desk.“Well, it will be interesting, that’s for sure.” she answered vaguely, “Thanks for your time, I think I can use what I got. I saw you eyeing it so you can keep the cake as compensation, just have the other stuff back to me by this evening.” She had already turned to leave before another thought popped into her head “Oh, and Yuri?”

Yuri, rather reluctantly, looked up with a questioning look. He prayed it wasn't another weird question or dumb photo idea.

“Maybe try to be a bit more cheerful sometimes, with an attitude like that people are going to start thinking you hate heroes or something. Plus, you actually look sort of pleasant when you’re smiling and having fun, even if you're just faking.” she shrugged. “Anyway, I’ll have a copy of the issue on your desk when it comes out.” she said, waving her crew after her and closing the door behind them.

Yuri, now alone in his trashed office, exhaled a sigh of relief at her departure. “I suppose the public wouldn’t be too pleased if they thought their judge hated heroes.” he remarks to himself as his glowing fingertips make contact with the candle wicks and set them alight. Once his hand had cooled he brushed it across the surface of his desk and collected the remaining confetti, repeating Agnes’s words from their phone call earlier about how anything can be a reason to celebrate. He took the stack of papers and shoved it into the bottom drawer of his desk. In a swift movement he sat back and tossed the confetti into the air above his head in celebration of ,what he just decided, was going to be a well deserved and much needed day off. As the scraps of paper rained down on him he recalled  her other words and smiled to himself.

RATE THE EPISODE 130 Responses

And we’re back! An explosive premiere brings the series back. The vast majority seemed to enjoy the episode, with only 2.3% of folks giving it a score below a 3.  

I thought some of the directing in the action scenes was odd and the music didn’t feel as well integrated/utilized as in past seasons.

If this season is consistently as good as this first episode, AOT will indeed end as a perfect masterpiece

ARE YOU HAPPY ABOUT THE CHANGE FROM WIT STUDIO TO MAPPA? 127 Responses

The Studio change from WIT Studio to MAPPA was a subject of much scrutiny and debate before the season’s release. With almost 61% showing some form of enthusiasm about a new studio’s take on the series. The opinion is not uniform, of course, with just over 18% stating their preference for WIT studio. Slightly less (17.3%) can’t give an answer yet and the rest don’t seem to care at all.  

I wished MAPPA would make the latter episodes a little more vibrant and lessen the blur

mappa as some of my favorite shows (banana fish, yuri on ice, etc) so it was kinda cool to see they picked up AOT szn 4 ! i’m excitedly waiting to watch the next episode, (and with my ‘watch partner’ aka tumblr friend who discusses with me as we watch LOL).

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CGI TITANS? 127 Responses

If there’s one thing that’s rather controversial about the series’ animation adaptation, then it’s certainly the use of CGI (particularly when animating Titans). The opinion of the fanbase seems to be rather positive, nonetheless. 72.4% of responders gave the CGI some praise (be it more open or more reserved), while 18.2% were more negative about the use of CGI. At the bottom was 9.4% who stated that they preferred WIT’s style of CGI to the one utilized in the episode.

When it came to the season’s opening, there was a positive response, with more than 72% expressing a favorable opinion. 21.1% didn’t seem to care for it and about 6% stated that they thoroughly disliked it.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE 4 YEAR TIME SKIP? 126 Responses

One of the grandest developments that came about in this episode is the fact that a 4 year time skip has occurred since the defeat of the Warriors in Shiganshina. Although there is a sizable minority expressing negative feelings (13.5%), the definitive majority is coming in with enthusiasm (70.6%). The rest are still thinking this change over. 

wtf is going on? Who are these new people? Why are we supposed to care about them if they're from Marley? Where are the main characters? Yeah, I suppose Reiner and Zeke technically count as MCs, but there is an appalling lack of 104th characters that needs to be fixed asap!

The plurality of responses (40%) chose the kind-hearted Falco, while 28% went with passionate Gabi. 14.4% chose the caring Colt and 13.6% went with the cool Jaw Titan holder. The last couple of responses picked out the stoic General Magath and the quiet Zofia. Poor Udo didn’t get a single vote!

Most viewers feel that there is no way for the relations between Eldians and Marleyans to improve (30.1%) or that relations will never improve, with the exception of a rare few who are sympathetic to Eldians (22.8%). Ryuuichi Naruhodou [A 17-year-old student in Hoshikage Senior High class 2-4. Fairly average, but lucky. His relaxed and personable attitude lets him connect with people easily. Known for his exceptional loyalty, he rarely backs down from anything once he’s committed to it. This is easily his greatest strength, but also his biggest weakness. He has a sardonic streak, though he mostly keeps it to himself, rarely showing it to even his closest friends.]

Masashi Yahari [A 17-year-old student in Hoshikage High class 2-4. Most see him as a naive, relatively useless young man, including himself. He’s infamous for running his mouth and acting without thinking in most situations, no matter the consequences. Her own short temper is easily her biggest obstacle - she’s been known to physically attack people when upset, disguising any signs of weakness as rage. Minuki Nanafushi [A 13-year-old student in Hoshikage Junior High class 2-2. Housuke’s half-sister, and Harumi’s best friend. She’s bright, energetic, and very naive. Underneath all this, she’s very perceptive and intelligent, often the first in her class to finish projects and puzzles. She holds up well under pressure - a skill that comes in handy given her penchant for stage magic, which she learned from her birth father. Like Housuke, this was her last day at Hoshikage High. I think the problem with Edelgard isn't that she's not bisexual (she canonically is) but that theres literally no difference between her supports with male and female Byleth. Its the same with most other bisexual supports in the game too and it is a problem, but other characters do have other same-sex endings that are romantic while Edelgard does not. Its just lazy writing and Edelgards lack of other romantic same-sex endings that make her seem more player-sexual than the other bi options.

I mean that can be chalked down to saving time and money. I still wish in Fates for example they kept Shara and Zero's Same Sex exclusive S Ranks in English but Treehouse wanted to avoid as much controversy as possible you know. That's a fair thing to be annoyed at, to be annoyed at the characters actually chosen is fine like I don't like Edelgard, I don't like Jeritza, I'm not fond of Sothis in that way, Alois and Gilbert were quite frankly unnecessary and if anyone in the fandom has a right to complain its the male lgbt players who's options are pretty boy, prettier boy, bloodthirsty psychopath OR they can friendzone themselves to the two old guys.

I get that you guys are really passionate about this but I just think its a really bad look to be saying "this character isn't gay" enough when in canon they can marry at least one person of the same sex. I know you're saying you accept canonically she's bisexual but you then add a BUT after it... there's no need for that, you can complain as a character she isn't very good representation, that's fine but going around and saying things like "straight but for byleth" or "bylethsexual" doesn't necessarily send the greatest message, you don't even need to bring these things up to argue against her character, you don't even need to mention it even when talking about her player pandering because she is incredibly player pandering and is very "male gaze" centric but that doesn't take away from the fact she is a bisexual character. Not every bisexual is gonna be into every guy/girl they meet. Edelgard doesn't need to have lots of endings with other girls because Dorothea and Mercedes have them, Hilda and Marianne exists as well. And again if we want to complain about this sort of thing I think the guys just have it worse because Linhardt's most subtext is with Caspar and even then its debatable how much substance it has. Yuri has it a bit better but still only one male ending but at least its pretty subtext ridden and Jeritza has no other endings with guys (and is also a bloodthirsty psychopath who gets off on pain/inflicting pain...) and the other two are friendzone options that have the Avatar marrying a random nameless woman in their endings so sure its all good to complain about Edelgard being questionable representation but maybe we should focus on where the real issue is.

Also this is my way of saying I'm bored of this discussion now, you're allowed to believe what you want, you're not gonna convince me that Edelgard's sexuality really even needs to be a major topic of discussion anyway (she's bi, that's the canon, there's no point debating anything that's not canon cause then there's no foundation for the debate). You can claim her being bi is fanservice but I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... all of the bisexual characters are fan service to a certain degree because the developers wouldn't have bothered to include them if they thought people wouldn't like having them there. Which is why games like Awakening didn't have any because back then IS could get away with that sort of thing, they can't anymore.

My Review of Arte

How did I get into this anime? Well, I had a few slots open for the spring 2020 anime season! Let’s read what this anime is about.

A girl during the Renaissance era in Florence, Italy wants to be an artist…

*ADDS THIS IMMEDIATELY*

I really don’t want to be disappointed with this. I have a horrible habit of adding animes where the main concept has to do with the art world. And have it go wrong when the anime is too boring or not enough love is given to it. But maybe this will go well! The manga is already getting high marks and praise. And for being a history piece, it got picked up rather quickly from a big anime licensor in the west.

Arte comes from a noble family and her family has plans for their daughter. It’s just that Arte is heavily into…well…art. They’re fine as long as it’s only a hobby, but it’s getting a little out of hand for Arte’s mother. Arte wants to become an artist! BIG problem! This is Italy during the Renaissance era. No women artists! But Arte persisted by asking all around to become an apprentice.

The only man to even give her a chance was an artist named Leo. After testing her endurance, he allows her to become his apprentice. Arte’s life is officially changing as she throws away her nobility to draw and paint.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: FUNimation grabbed this anime. Surprisingly, they didn’t give Arte a simildub. Quite possibly because this was one of those newer animes that arrived during the COVID-19 nightmare! Or they didn’t want to fuck with Italian accents this time around! The sub had a nice mixture of veteran and newer seiyuus. Color me surprised when I heard Rie Tanaka’s voice again near the end of the series. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

*Leo is played by Katsuyuki Konishi (known for Kamina on Gurren Lagann, America on Hetalia, Tsumugu on Kill la Kill, Laxus on Fairy Tail, Tanaka on Durarara, Fuegoleon on Black Clover, and Arima on Tokyo Ghoul)

FAVORITE CHARACTER: Arte! This girl wants to pursue a career in the arts and will do whatever it takes to do so. She defies her mother’s wishes, cuts her long hair, almost cuts off her breasts, did all the impossibly difficult tasks other apprentices could never do, and so much more. You have to admire this crazy, little lady.

SHIPPING: In episode 3, Arte started feeling that light and fuzzy feeling many of us feel when we “fall” for someone. And she started to feel funny whenever she was around Leo. This would be fine and dandy except for a few issues. For one thing, Leo is her boss and she’s his apprentice. Best to keep things professional! Secondly, during this period in time, Veronica does have a point. It’s best that if you want to achieve in your craft in a man’s world, it’s best to stow the romance bags to the side. After that bag of reality was dropped on Arte, she mostly focused on her art work and no romance was ever brought up again.

Although, I do have an inkling about Yuri having the hots for Arte! But I know my girl Arte here don’t have time for this boy’s bullshit!

LEO AND ANGELO: No, this isn’t a shipping debate. Actually, there are fans of the show speculating if these two characters are in fact the famous artists Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Come on now, this story is absolute fiction with a few true details here and there. Yes, we still don’t know the full name to Leo to prove that he could be the fictionalized version of the real-life artist and the anime never once put up an advisory at the beginning of every episode saying that any character that’s similar to real-life people is purely coincidental. But it’s possible that these two could very well be those very artists. Both da Vinci and Michelangelo were living Florence around the same time. I’ll chalk this up to you history buffs and conspiracy theorists out there. I choose to believe the creator of Arte just used the names of these artists and that’s that!

ENDING: During the 7th episode, Arte is given an opportunity to go to Venice to become a tutor for a handsome man’s niece and to paint a portrait of his sister-in-law. At the time, Venice was seen as a staple in the art world (despite Florence’s rich history that we know today) and this would be a perfect time for Arte to spread her wings. I mean, she won’t be an apprentice under Leo forever, right?! Yeah, Leo’s words to Arte before she left for Venice played around her head a lot during her stay in Venice. Saying that it’s okay if she chooses to stay there longer than six months or even stay permanently!

During this time, Arte was able to find ground with this difficult child (Catalina) that she must tutor as these two do share something in common. Both girls have a certain passion that they want to hone as their own, but can’t due to family forbiding it, status in the world, and even gender. Arte did so much to get where she is now including disobeying her mother by leaving home and try in a profession that’s mainly for men. Arte was unable to do much with her relationship with her family (especially after her father’s death), but she was able to help Catalina and her mother with theirs and even hope for a future where Catalina can see a boy she likes again.

As we near the end of this series, we find Arte still wondering about her future. She’s still seen as the rarity as being a woman of nobility entering the art world when that profession is usually done by people seen as lower than nobles and majorily male. Plus, what Leo said before setting for Venice keeps replaying in Arte’s mind. It’s true that this time Arte has spent in Venice with Sofia and Catalina was life-changing. And Yuri ended up asking Arte to stay with the family permanently. Meanwhile, Leo is noticing that maybe, just maybe, he’s missing Arte. That or he’s annoyed by all the people in Arte’s circle bugging him.

In the finale, Arte has reached a conclusion on where she’s going to go after finishing up Sofia’s portrait. She got some decent advice from one of the apprentices she met in Venice. That Arte should use her nobility and gender to her advantage in a male dominated profession. Okay, he didn’t exactly say that, but you get what I mean. There’s a certain softness to Arte’s work that’s not seen with many male artists. She should continue doing what she loves despite what others may say or think.

So in case you’re wondering, she turned down Yuri’s proposal of staying with Sofia and Catalina full-time. She’s going to head back to Florence and continue as Leo’s apprentice. Yeah, Catalina is pretty upset by Arte leaving after spending over six months with them. But they promised to keep in touch with letters. Upon Arte’s return to Florence, she learns about Leo doing a special mural for the Easter holiday. But Leo got ill and has been bed-ridden for days.

Arte steps in and takes over the mural so that it could be completed in time for Easter. With a little help from her friends like Darcia, Angelo, and Veronica, she was able to complete it. And just in time for Leo to emerge to give his critique on Arte’s work. As usual, he told her on what she should have done, but acknowledges that she has definitely grown as an artist during her time in Venice and is happy to see her again. Surprisingly, that wasn’t the only shocking moment of the finale.

Arte’s mother was there for the unveiling of the mural and actually praises her daughter. I guess she’s come a long way from the first episode where she burned all of Arte’s drawings. So yeah, girls can be more than just bargaining tools for marriage or becoming nuns. So Arte’s going to continue working under Leo and we end there.

I can already tell you that many people were not digging this anime, but I liked it. But again, painting is my thing. And being a female, I’m drawn to stories of girls trying to overcome prejudice just because of their gender. Even when studying art in school, most pieces that were covered in the curriculum were majority (if not, all) male. Well, unless I took a class with a supremely feminist teacher, we would not learn anything about female painters. And if we did, it would just be for like one day or one week out of the semester before we get to the well-known names like Van Gough, Pollock, and Monet.

By the looks of it, Arte doesn’t look like it’ll get any kind of continuation. I know that the manga is still in publication and maybe if that ends we might get something extra. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one. Even FUNimation didn’t bother giving this an English dub. Then again, this aired during the height of the COVID pandemic (in Japan) In fact; it was one of the very few animes in the spring season that never took a week off due to COVID. I would like to see what happens to Arte in the future. Like if she ends up with her own workshop or if she takes over Leo’s place when he retires. It’s fun to think of what happens and I might just one day pick up the manga to see if any of that actually happens. Due to my particular love of painting, I’m going to recommend this series regardless. And while you’re at it, check out some other series like Honey and Clover or Hidamari Sketch.
