remember how we thought black widow (2021) was going to be the darkest mcu movie, but then after the really well-done opening credits montage, the movie stopped being dark, and then two years later, a silly little Guardians of the Galaxy movie ended up being the movie where every person I’ve talked to said that they were deeply upset by it and they cried 6 times and that it was the most beautiful marvel movie in years and 100% the darkest movie that the mcu has ever made and was surprisingly gory and had the mcu’s first f-bomb and i even openly wept in a movie theater for the first time since avengers: endgame and there were points where i could just hear everyone crying and

Making Mischief
Guardians of the Galaxy Fanfic | Reader, Loki, Yondu, Kraglin
Part 13 in a series: Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10 Chapter 11 | Chapter 12 | Chapter 13
Summary: To take your minds off of your recent tragedies, Loki suggests some mischief. Yondu and Kraglin are not amused.
Authors Note: This chapter was originally shorter, but after I wrote the next chapter I realized I would prefer to combine them together. For the moment the second half is also posted separately for those who’ve already read the first part, but as of right now this version you’ll be reading now is the combined version with both chapters combined as one.
Word Count: 3,459
You were still trying to process the news about your new heart, even though it had been about three and a half weeks since Yondu broke the news to you.
It wasn’t until later that same day that you were deemed well enough to have the tube removed, which was a rather... unpleasant experience. Once it was out and you were free to talk you asked Yondu more about your stay.
According to him you apparently had been out for a day and a half since the operation, and during that time the doctors took the liberty to examine your ankle, seeing as it was definitely not treated professionally. Luckily for you, Peter had done a decent job setting it and therefore it wouldn’t be required for the doctor’s to re-set it, a task that would require re-breaking your ankle to set the bones properly. Since it appeared to be healing fine they merely re-wrapped it and estimated it would need to remain wrapped for just another few weeks.
You soon found out these weeks would also be spent with you remaining in the Med Center in physical therapy as you got used to your new cybernetic heart.
Now you were back on the Eclector, with a fully healed ankle and instructions to continue your physical therapy exercises and to be easy on your ankle for a least a couple more weeks. This was a task Yondu prodded you about daily, which was starting to annoy you. You were still taking everything in regarding your heart on top of losing nearly everyone you loved. In your opinion, the physical therapy was the least of your concerns.
You lay on your bed staring at the ceiling when you heard a knock. You look over to see Loki standing in your doorway.
“What?” you sigh. Couldn’t you have just a few moments to yourself?
“Just thought I’d stop by to see how you were. It’s been awhile, quite frankly I’m surprised to see you again.”
You rolled your eyes. “Well here I am. I’m sure the other two already told you what happened.”
“No, actually. Your captain isn’t very forthcoming, I’ve found.”
“Well, that’s Yondu for you.” you say, turning over and hoping he’d get the hint.
If he did he ignored it. “You seem to be unhappy. Do you care to talk about it?”
Talk about it? Where would you even begin? “I don’t know. It’s just a lot.”
“I’m willing to listen.” Loki replied.
You turned to face him still at the doorway. “Do you actually want to hear it or are you just bored?” you sassed, figuring it was more likely the latter. He had been cooped up in the ship with no one but Kraglin and Yondu for the last few weeks.
“Yes,” was all Loki responded with.
You bit back a grin and roll your eyes. He was such a shit, but you couldn’t help but find a bit of humor in his non-answer of an answer. Well, if he really wanted to know, you’d let him have it. You sigh and let yourself unload on him.
You tell him everything that’s been bothering you the past few months.
You told him about your CIPA condition and how you had hidden it from the team for years, but they found out anyway when you got sick and how after Yondu learned about your CIPA he volunteered to undergo the procedure that allowed him to feel your pain for you in an attempt to keep you safe.
You tell him how you lost a man that was like a brother to you as well as most of the rest of your family. You tell him how you hated yourself for breaking your ankle before they left because if you hadn’t maybe you could have gone with them. Maybe there was something you could have done to help them avoid their fate.
Before you knew it you were telling him you hated the fact that they were dead while you lived. How now you live with a cybernetic heart because your own heart had failed you and that fact that you still didn’t know how to deal with this fact.
You told him all this and he listened patiently. You were surprised that you were allowing yourself to be this open with him, you would blame this on stress later.
It wasn’t until you noticed his expression shift that you noticed you had begun crying. You quickly wipe your eyes and sit up on the bed, turning your face away and hoping he hadn’t noticed but knowing he must have. You tried to deflect. “Well, that’s enough about me. Why don’t you tell me something about you for a change? Unless I scared you off.” you weakly attempted a laugh.
“Perhaps another time.” Loki said, a hint of sadness in his voice. Your story of losing your team only brought back the memories of losing his own family, and for once in his life he didn’t feel like talking about his tragic past. “Perhaps we should find something to take our mind off of our recent tragedies.” he said instead.
"What did you have in mind?”
“Well, I am the God of Mischief.” he said with a smirk as he motioned to himself. “Take a wild guess.”
You rolled your eyes and allowed yourself to grin. “You ever rig up a shower head with dye?”
Loki’s grin widened. “There’s a first time for everything.”
“Excellent.” You beamed, getting up and rummaging through your drawer for the bottle of red dye left over from the time Rocket showed you how to set up a dye bomb in Yondu’s dresser. You smiled bittersweetly at the memory and turned toward the dark haired man. “We should hurry if we don’t want to get caught.”
“The danger is just part of the fun my dear.” he laughed.
The two of you snuck down towards Yondu and Kraglin’s quarters. You had just enough dye to split between the two shower heads and if you and Loki worked quickly there would just enough time to rig them up before Yondu and Kraglin finished tuning up the M-ship.
You hand Loki a dye pack and instruct him how to unscrew the shower head and dump in the dye before screwing it back in. Then you both quickly split off and take a room. You took Yondu’s and Loki took Kraglin’s.
You had done this before, but you still tried to move quickly just in case Loki might need help, though you suspected the God of Mischief could handle himself. However, in your haste you slipped on the tile floor and landed hard on your back. ‘Shit!’ you thought. Yondu totally would have felt that one. You scramble to your feet and run out of his quarters to hurry Loki up before Yondu came to check on you.
As you came out of his quarters you found Loki exiting Kraglin’s door. “I heard a noise,” he said.
“Don’t worry, it was just me being clumsy. Did you get it done?” you asked.
“Yes.”
“Then let’s hurry and get out of here! Yondu is bound to come check on me.” you urged.
Loki raised an eyebrow, but followed your lead. “Did you get hurt?”
“No, but I landed hard and he’s like a worried mother hen. He checks on everything now if the chip tells him I’m in any sort of pain.”
“Well do you need to check?” Loki asked. You were both now turning the corner out of the hallway leading to their rooms, but your adrenaline at the risk of being caught wouldn’t allow you to slow down. You wanted to put as much distance between you and their rooms as possible.
“No, I don’t need to check. I’m fine!” you urged. “It was just a-”
“There ya are, missy!”
You heard Yondu call from the opposite end of the hall you had just turned into moments before. You internally groaned and turned to face where his voice had come from.
“What happened now? Come here,” he ordered, closing the distance in the hallway. He didn’t seem thrilled, no doubt assuming Loki must have done something. Kraglin wasn’t too far behind him, meaning they must have finished tuning up the ship faster than you expected and were already headed this way, which would explain why they got here so fast.
“I’m fine!” you said, rolling your eyes. your heart was beating a mile a minute. You now realized you had been just minutes away from getting caught regardless if you had fell and alerted Yondu. It wasn’t lost on you the fact that if your fall hadn’t caused you to rush out as quickly as you had, you and Loki might still be back there with no way to avoid getting caught.
“Ya know ya can’t lie to me, girl.” Yondu scolded. He reached out for you, no doubt intending to check your back for bruising, but you pulled back with an exasperated huff.
“Look, I just slipped and fell. Happy? You can’t worry about every little thing. I’m going to live.”
Wrong choice of words. Yondu glared at you. “I’ll worry all I want, little girl!” he snapped back. He looked at Loki. “An’ what are you doin’ here?”
Loki clearly hadn’t expected to be made part of the conversation, but he quickly recovered. “I saw her slip and fall, so I offered her a hand up.”
Yondu looked quickly back at you. “So ya fell and couldn’t get up?” His face was cross, assuming you were hiding a worse injury.
Loki interjected before Yondu could go full mother-hen mode. “Oh, no, sir! I can assure you she was fine. I only offered her my hand as it was the gentlemanly thing to do.”
Yondu eyed him suspiciously. “She don’t need any of yer ‘gentlemanliness,’ boy.”
Kraglin gave Loki a look as well. “Yeah. So don’t you think about getting any ideas now.”
“Oh, no no no! I can assure you it was nothing like that!” Loki quickly said, holding his hands up. He chuckled nervously, not expecting the men to jump to that conclusion so quickly over a mere story of lending you a hand.
You blushed, realizing what was going on. “Yondu! Krags- Geeze! Can’t a guy just be nice without you two assuming he has ulterior motives?”
“Nope,” they said in unison, both giving Loki the stink eye.
“Perhaps... I should be going?” Loki said, nervously chuckling as he took a couple steps back.
“Yeah. Perhaps ya should.” Yondu drawled, crossing his arms. After Loki had taken a couple steps down the hall Yondu called out to him. “Ya know, boy, I think the floor in the kitchen could use a shinin,’ maybe ya should get on that.”
Loki begrudgingly turned and called back a “Yes, sir.” and left, but not before you silently mouthed the words “I’m sorry!” at him.
You punched Yondu in the shoulder. “You’re so embarrassing! There’s literally nothing going on between us!”
“I believe ya girl, but that don’t mean he won’t try somethin.’” the blue man warned, eyeing him as he walked away.
“Ugh!” You roll your eyes and storm away from the men in the direction from where they came, feeling it wouldn’t be good if Yondu assumed you were following Loki. In truth, yes, Yondu was being embarrassing, but you were really just glad you and Loki hadn’t been caught in the middle of a prank. If that happened you now worried Yondu might have thrown him out an airlock if he saw you teaming up after how he reacted to Loki being “gentlemanly” towards you. He really was turning into a mother hen.
You definitely weren’t going to regret what would happen when they finally took showers tonight.
***
***
You were startled awake by the sounds of shouting coming from somewhere in the ship. It took only moments for you to wake up enough to realize that Kraglin and Yondu must have discovered the prank that awaited them in their showers.
Unsure of the time you check your watch and realize it was morning, meaning that they either opted to wait until the woke to shower, or that neither of them had bothered to look in the mirror before heading to sleep last night. You quickly get up and get dressed to assess the damage, trying to hide the grin on your face as you exited your room.
Your glee was short lived, however, as when you finally tracked the shouts to their source you realized that the guys were yelling at Loki, and they looked very mad.
“Ya think this is funny, boy?!” growled Yondu, shoving Loki against the wall. Yondu was mostly dressed, and looked to be dry. Kraglin, however, was still mostly wet and was still in his towel. Looks like both your assumptions were right.
Loki held his hands up in surrender and claimed innocence, but you could see he was trying desperately not to crack a grin at the sight.
Kraglin was stained with reddish splotches covering most of his face and torso, but Yondu was now a solid new color. The red had blended with the blue tint of his skin and resulted in a deeper purple, very similar to the shade he had turned that time when a dye bomb blew up in his face, but much more even. It was apparent that Kraglin had noticed the color change much faster than Yondu, and must have jumped out of his shower halfway through, whereas Yondu obviously didn’t notice anything until he glanced at a mirror this morning. ‘The man must have been very tired last night or he showers in the dark,’ you thought.
You suddenly realized that Yondu was a shade of purple that very closely related to Barney the Dinosaur and a snicker escaped before you could stop it.
The three look toward you.
“Yeah, get a good laugh.” Kraglin scolded. “We’re throwing your friend out the air lock.”
“What?!” You and Loki cried in unison, Loki now starting to look concerned. He clearly hadn’t anticipated this.
“Why?” Your eyes were wide as you quickly made your way over to the men. Surely they wouldn’t?
“Why d’ya think?” scolded Yondu, motioning to himself and Kraglin. “I bet he didn’t like me warnin’ him to stay away from ya and decided to turn the water in our showers red!” He sneered, grabbing Loki’s collar “I knew it was a mistake allowin’ a guy who calls himself a ‘god’ on the ship.”
“You can’t!” you blurt out. “It was me! I did it!”
The three men look at you again. Kraglin & Yondu in bewilderment, as you never admit to your pranks, and Loki in both relief that this might save him an unpleasant trip and awe that you seemed willing to take all the blame.
“What now, girl?” Yondu said coldly, still not yet releasing Loki.
“I did it! It was just a prank! You can’t throw him out the airlock!” Your voice was almost pleading. “It- It would be bad form to do that to a man who didn’t deserve it!” you tried. You were sure you remembered a pirate from a movie citing something about bad form, and Yondu was just a former space pirate, right? Surely this would resonate with him?
It worked.
Begrudgingly, Yondu shoved Loki away with a scowl. “Ya get out of it this time, boy. Get out of my sight.”
Loki shot you a quick grateful glance and wasted no time making his way away from the angry captain.
Yondu then turned to you. “I can’t exactly say I’m surprised, but yer still gonna scrub the M-Ship for this, missy,” he scolded. “D’ya have anythin’ to say fer yerself?
You grinned nervously. “Uh... it was funny?”
Kraglin glared at you. He had clearly gotten the worse end of the prank since he had jumped out of the dyed water partway through. “Yeah, I disagree, brat. Try again.”
“Um... yeah, I got nothin.” You confessed. “I mean, I got Yondu because he was being a mother hen, but you were really just collateral damage.” you giggled nervously. Kraglin was definitely going to kill you. He stormed off, stating that he was going to try and wash off as much of that dye as he could once his water ran clear again.
“A mother what?” Yondu asked, sure that he should be insulted, if only he knew what that meant.
“A mother hen? You know, being really over protective?”
“I’m not over-protective, girl!” he scolded.
“You so are! I mean, you yelled at Loki yesterday just because he said he leant me a hand when I fell, and you constantly obsess if I’m hurt and check up on me every 10 minutes!”
“I have my reasons.”
“Yes, I know you care about me, but this is exactly the reason I hid this from everyone for so long in the first place! I don’t need to be babied!”
Yondu softened a little. He more than understood by now your desire for independence after everything you had been through. “Come here, little girl,” he said, pulling you into a hug. “I know. I know ya can take care of yerself, but I just wanna make sure yer ok. Ya scared me. I thought I’d lose ya too.”
You sighed, accepting the hug. “I know. But I’m doing a lot better now, you need to see that. I’m not just going to drop dead any second, you kind of made sure of that for me,” you tried to joke about it, but the subject of your new heart was still tender for you, and the humor fell a little flat.
Yondu didn’t say anything for a moment, just rubbed his hand your shoulder in a comforting gesture. He knew he had made a decision for you that wasn’t truly his to make, but he didn’t regret it for a second. He also knew you weren’t ungrateful, but it would still take you time to come to fully come to terms with it. Eventually he tried to lighten the mood.
“D’ya think Kraglin knows that stuff ain’t gonna wash off?”
You giggle and break the hug to look up at him. “No. He’s gonna be stained all blotchy for weeks because he let it dry on him like that. You got lucky, at least you’re an even shade of purple.”
“I suppose being too tired to notice had its advantages.” Yondu laughed, tweaking your ribs in retaliation and eliciting a squeak from you. “Ya better hurry up and get that M-Ship washed before I think of another way to punish ya,” he chuckled.
You rolled your eyes playfully but did as you were told. In a way you thought you were getting off pretty easy, at least it wasn’t toilet duty.
“An’ don’t think about doing this again!” Yondu called out after you. “Or I’ll put you on grease trap duty for a month!”
You grinned and shot back a thumbs up as you walked away. It’s not like you had a choice anyway, that was the last of your dye.
*** After you finished cleaning the M-Ship you looked for Loki and found him relaxing atop his bunk in his quarters. You looked around for Yondu before entering, not wishing him to assume anything else. You lightly knocked on his doorway to get his attention.
“Hey, so uh, sorry about earlier. The whole... you almost getting ejected from the ship thing, I mean.”
Loki grinned and sat up. “I’ve had worse. Though I must thank you for taking the blame to save me from a rather unpleasant fate. They don’t quite seem to like me, do they?”
“Let’s just call us even, since you covered for me yesterday and Yondu made you scrub the kitchen,” you laughed, “and you’re just new to them still. I’m sure they’ll learn to trust you over time.”
“Well, perhaps not if we continue making mischief at their expense,” he chuckled. He pretended to think a moment. “Perhaps we should... stop?”
“That’s unfortunate,” you grin, certain he didn’t mean a word of what he was saying. “how else will we entertain ourselves? And moreover, I’m surprised the ‘God of Mischief’ would suggest avoiding mischief.”
Loki looked at you, slightly surprised and intrigued. “Madam, are you suggesting that you’d like to make more mischief? Aren’t you concerned of the consequences?” You could see a grin playing at his lips.
You grinned wider, “Maybe I am. Besides, didn’t you say ‘the danger is just part of the fun?’”
A mischievous smile cracked Loki’s face, “Well then, where shall we start?”

Do them all. Suffer as I did 😂
Bitch I told you this was our friendship. We force each other to answer all the questions.
1. selfie
Well… I wasn’t dubbed Selfie Queen for nothing…
This one is interesting bc I have zero makeup on. The most recent ones are too blurry. A lot of my fav selfies are full faces of makeup tho.
2. what would you name your future kids?
I feel like that’s a decision for both parents but I really like the names Felicity, Isabella and Dimitri. Yes, all of them are names from various franchises I enjoyed throughout the years. Be glad I’m out of my phase where I thought Vladimir was a good name.
3. do you miss anyone?
I miss all my friends I don’t get to see frequently. Love all of y’all and hope y’all are doing well in life!
4. what are you looking forward to?
Fucking graduating. Jesus Christ it’s taken me five damn years.

No but I have the Hamilton soundtrack stuck in my head right now since that’s what I was last listening to. If you haven’t heard it I highly suggest it. Man I wanna see it so badly.

Sleep but I’m trying not to throw off my sleep schedule right now and am waiting a bit before going to bed. I only got three hours of sleep last night so that’s fun.

My friend Sebastian hugged me when I dropped him off. I guess that counts.

Hey Holly, it’s Holly. How are you? Did 2018 go ok? Or is everyone saying “2018 did me so bad omggg” like they do with every year?
Here’s a little recap of every cool thing you did in 2017, just so you don’t forget, but mostly so you can feel nostalgic as you read this back later.
In January, you went to the women’s march in Portland and wrote this here poem, because Trump was elected president. I know, crazy, remember that? After campaigning for Bernie in 2016 and attending one of his rallies, you had been filled with a glimmer of hope for the future of America, but this election was a gigantic step backwards. Like, 20 years backwards in progress.
In February, I’d say the coolest thing you did was attend the Live Salted conference in Portland with Hayley, your old Young Life leader. You felt so connected to a group of people whom you had never met before, but they welcomed you in and loved you so well. Here, your faith began to bloom more in 2016. Continuing with the blooming of faith in February, you also attended a campaigners camp at Washington Family Ranch as well, where you felt at home somewhere, and like you had a place in Young Life. (Honorable mentions for February: Lilli’s birthday and, oh yeah, getting your license finally!!!!)
By March, your campaign with Cam for Junior Class Presidents was in full swing, as you had dragged him into running with you. I think he actually did like it through, I mean, he must have, because he decided to run with you again for ASB! (How does that turn out, by the way?) March was also the month that your student government journey began. Ms. Stone asked you to join Core Council in place of the social media coordinator, and I think it is safe to say that it really saved your high school career. Student government has made me into someone I never thought I’d be, but I enjoy being for every second. It’s crazy to think that in only a span of 10 months, student government has become your entire life.. like, it’s literally what you live for. Cookies were handed out and smiles were exchanged in your campaign, as march was filled with your very first leadership committees and initial Core Council meetings as well. (Honorable mentions: the Panic! at the Disco concert with Destiny–this was the second time you had seen them–and DRIVING ACROSS THE STATE BY YOURSELF OMG HOLLY WHAT WHERE YOU THINKNING?!! But really, spring break consisted of driving on the freeway by myself for the first time ever for 5 hours to see Grammy and Grandude in Fossil for a week. It was a wild trip that I think I learned a lot about myself in, and being alone with myself as well.)
By April, you had lost your election with Cam for class president, but it didn’t end your student government career or stop you from continuing on (obviously). Looking back on it, April was sort of a trivial month, with no real huge events in it, but smaller ones. Like running your first ever blood drive! (Little did you know that in this year you would run two more!) You also got into photography more, even with Grammy’s shitty old DSLR, you found out that you could potentially have talent in this, and people told you that you did. This new self confidence sparked a whole potencial career path and jump started your creativity again, as you were beginning to leave web design and computer science major ideas behind (spoiler: coding is easy, hosting websites is not, and the inner workings of the internet is too complicated).
May was the beginning to a great summer, and just a taste of the fun that was to come. School nights were spent sitting by campfires with new friends in their backyards, tailgating at high school baseball games, and traveling to new outdoor adventures. You even saw blackbear for the second time at his own show, which was beyond amazing. Digital Druglord is one of your favorite albums of all time, and the performance did not disappoint (unlike cybersex, his newest album).
June was the end of sophomore year, with a lot of bittersweetness, but an overall good ending. Somehow you made it through without failing chemistry and still being in NHS. You probably wouldn’t have though if it wasn’t for your high school counselor, Robbie, you owe him a lot. You got to help with prom and see the entire committee’s work come to fruiting on that night, and you were already thinkning of ways to make yours better for the next year. And of course, YOU GOT A JOB!! You got an interview with Jamba Juice sometime in March maybe, but they asked you to come in again in June and Nikki hired you on the spot. The summer was off on a good foot with a job at a juice bar.
July was filled with independent Oregon adventures with you and your friends who could both drive! Having this new found sense o adult-ness and freedom opened many doors. In between shifts at Jamba, you and Elora drove to Newport in search of a great beach day (which was found), you, Lilli, Payton, Elora, and Destiny wandered down to Irish Bend to swim in the sun, and you and Adelaide traveled to the cabin and Sahalie Falls while capturing pretty cool pictures. July was the epitome of a 16 year old Oregonian’s summer. Your second blood drive in the summer went well too, and you even made 50 bucks from it! And of course, there was summer camp at WaFaRa again. This camp seemed to go on forever, and it was here that you realized your time for being a camper was probably over, and it was time to begin to lead-which you still have yet to do so hurry up Holly. This camp, as always, pushed your limits a little more and more each day. You go karted, did a roped course 100 feet in the air, and danced your butt off at club. After camp you went for a trip to Fossil for the second time this year, and saw the long awaited Painted Hills, which you will have to go back to one day.
August was a summer winding down. The fair was an obligatory local teenager event, which turned out to be mediocre (shocking, I know), but made for some cute instagrams. You played glow in the dark capture the flag with Adelaide and friends, spray painted CHS’s rock with your new core council, and YOU GOT BANGS!! After contemplating many times, you just finally did it and said screw it. And they even turned out good! Oh, and the whole solar eclipse thing happened too.
September was a peppy school spirited month, kicking off the 2017-2018 year with a spirit shirt you designed, home football games, deadly APUSH notes, homecoming week, and watching volleyball from the sidelines for the first time ever. (Turns out photographing your friends playing a sport they genuinely love is better than playing the sport as well, only pretending to love it.) Oh yeah, for yearbook, they gave you a kick ass camera that is absolutely amazing and finally lets you flex some photography skills and learn new stuff! And of course, all throughout this you were still desperately in love with C.
October had tons of photoshoots and it was your month to thrive, libra! I think it was by now that you were seeing Dr. S and had a regular regime of prescriptions, which even though your mom was terrified of you taking three antidepressants and two mood stabilizers, it seemed to be working. You and Lilli planned a last minute concert trip in early October to see The Weeknd, and even though you were in the nosebleeds, a concert is a concert and it was a great experience. You and Adelaide had a fall beach trip this month, and you also did a stunning photoshoot with Kiara, Alyssa, and Alba which is still one of your favorites of all time. You went on many Shari’s dates with megan as well, and your new friendship began to grow here. And of course, you had your 17th birthday then too! Your party at the farm was stressful and less than eventful, but pretty ok. And at the end of October, you got what I am typing on now! A new Macbook, which was literally a dream come true thanks to your Nanna.
November was the month of tournaments! First, dodgeball, then ping pong. Ping Pong basically consumed your whole life in November, even though you knew nothing about the sport. But in November, you also got to go to Seaside with Core Council for the OASC Leadership Conference! It was really a blast and a great bonding experience that was well worth it. There was also your third blood drive in November, which went moderately okay.
And finally…, December. Now. You Christmas shopped your heart out and spent your paycheck on everyone else, but it was well worth it. As I am now writing this and reflecting on this year, I feel happy about it, really. This year kind of whizzed by, but what year doesn’t? You planned Winter Formal this month, finally got your school schedule together and dropped APUSH, laughed at Festivus and at Christmas Eve dinner with heidi, and enjoyed Christmas day with all three families (Dad, Mom, Wooley’s + etc.)
Overall this year, you enjoyed a ton of music, watched a lot of movies (50 shades II, Dunkirk, Get Out, Baby Driver, Guardians of the Galaxy I and II, American Assassin, Cars 3, The Disaster Artist, Ladybird), and read quite a few books (The Book Thief, I’ll Give You the Sun, Milk and Honey, The Sun and Her Flowers,The Girls). So here’s to another year, another illusion of starting over. Here’s to you, future me.
Love, past me of December 28th 2017

Tagged by @chocochipbiscuit to post my current WIPs. Thanks, Choco! (lol this is going to be self-indulgent and painful XD;) (As with Choco, I also have more bits and blobs and ideas than I know what to do with, but I’ll focus on the ones that have a remote chance of ever getting finished.) Active WIPS (I have at least opened the document in the past month and I honestly intend to finish them this year.) In order of recently modified: OP CM BB -- "One Piece, Cobymeppo, Beauty&Beast" I mean, it's kind of what it says on the tin: it's vaguely a Beauty and the Beast AU. (Factoid: this is at least the 3rd or 4th fanfic I've written based on friggin' B&B. It's my favorite fairytale and I'm weak.) Currently at 12.5k (when did that happen?!) out of, I dunno, 18k? I honestly never intended to write this. It just sort of happened-- and kept happening, which is the weird part. I'm liking it though. Factoid #2: there are a lot of dogs in this fic. JD LLW -- "Jak and Daxter, Love Like Winter" 100% inspired by the AFI song, I won't lie. I've been meaning to write this for at least 7 years. I have a lot of thoughts and headcanons about the Jak and Daxter series, and this incorporates my hardcore favorite: Daxter is a Precursor. It also uses a couple tropes I love: reincarnation cycles, and fated lovers. As with any song, I can't say what it's actually supposed to be about, but I always heard it as the story of, well, reincarnation and fated lovers. "I met my love before I was born", and then switching between he, she, and then back to he. The story became very vibrant in my head! And this format especially allows me the opportunity to explore Jak/Keira as well as Jak/Daxter, because while I'm not a huge fan of Jak/Keira, I don't like just ignoring canon if I can avoid it. Currently at 7k out of... maybe 20k? It was supposed to be a lot shorter, but I'm only on chapter 1 out of 3, so less than 15k is probably not happening. Factoid: I think a lot of people only know this series second-hand, so I feel the need to mention that Daxter does, in fact, have a human form. XD FO4NV -- "Fallout 4, Nick Valentine" A very creative document name! XD; The story will probably eventually be titled "Same Heart" unless I come up with something better. It's a Fallout4 AU(ish) centering around Nick having been recaptured by the Institute, getting a memory wipe, and then living there during the years when Shaun is being raised there. Eventually, he and kid-Shaun break out to explore the Commonwealth and try to find Shaun's parents. I swear it'll be a Nick/Nora story if I ever friggin' get to that part, but right now it's mostly a Nick&Shaun story. Currently at 30k out of, I dunno, 70k to 100k? It's on chapter 7 out of 17, I think. I have this one planned out pretty well chapter-by-chapter, so of all my fics it has the best chance of actually happening. (Aside from the length, which sort of counts against it. It was supposed to be shorter, but I apparently couldn't shut up.) I'm thinking about focusing on this one for my NaNoWriMo, since it has about 50k left to it. Factoid: I get more emotional about parental relationships than I do about romantic ones, despite the fact that I LOVE romance. Stories I write about parent-child relationships always end up being my favorite. BttF On Track -- "Back to the Future, On Track" The only one I've actually started posting. I feel bad because I meant to continue writing this through December and January, but I got lazy and distracted, so it didn't happen. The season is just about right to jump back into it though (Fall is a more BttF season for me), so I HOPE to finish it this year. Currently at 18k (holy shit, seriously?) out of probably 30k. Chapter 3 (out of 6 well-planned chapters) is aaalmost done, but I might have to go reread some of IrisBleuFics stuff to get back into the mood of it. (Or maybe Rae's or Edgebug's.) Factoid (actually a question) : does anyone else have seasonal fandoms? Inactive WIPs (there are lots of these, so I'll put them under a cut for you. Still, these are only the ones I’ve worked on in the past year. Again, from most- to least-recent.)
HP GOtG -- A silly Harry Potter/Guardians of the Galaxy fic I have like a page of. I was mentally explaining the concept of fanfic to someone and this... happened.
HPCM Ways to Live -- Another One Piece Cobymeppo fic, and AU (or UA) about if Luffy had never met Coby in ep.1 and skipped right over to kick Morgan's ass in Shells Town. tldr Coby and Helmeppo become pirates.
FFXV parents AU -- I was REALLY into this one for a while, got a couple thousand words and a good plot outline on it. It's Final Fantasy 15 AU (or, as usual, a UA) in which Noctis is only a baby when the empire attacks, and teenage Ignis and Gladio have to run away with him, and end up raising him on their own. I 100% intend to finish this one, but it's not top priority at the moment.
A modern prometheus -- A magical-world retelling of Frankenstein. Probably gay.
FO4 WFM-- "Fallout 4, Waiting for magic" On the day the bombs drop, Nora's husband is still at war, while she's several months pregnant and working on her legal cases from home. Her friend Nick Valentine has come to give her some documents and check on her when they're suddenly ushered into the vault and frozen. AKA the romantic adventures of Nick and a heavily pregnant Nora out in the Commonwealth. (Inspired by an Ace of Bass song)
Fo4 Sky-- "Fallout 4, Skyrim" Basically a riff off the previous story, but not the same at all, somehow. Set in Skyrim, Nora is essentially sleeping beauty. Wait. Snow white? Er, yeah. Magically frozen in a coffin, yeah.
MEA Avi -- "Mass Effect Andromeda, Avi: a sci-fi ghost story" REALLY thought I was gonna finish this one, but I got distracted from MEA altogether. The story of Avitus Rix and his SAM unit, which has begun to think it is the late Macen Barro, its previous owner/partner, and Avitus' longtime boyfriend. Still can't decide how sad I want it, but it'll be pretty gloomy even if I go with a happy ending.
DCo side story AU -- A modern mini-fic about my DamselCo characters going on a double date, except Addisson and Hunter are both late so it's just Ellery and Isabelle being kind of awkward.
FFXV Dear Fellow Traveler -- AU, Prompto was raised in Niflheim and meets Noctis and the others on their (very long, winding) trip to Noct's engagement. Promptis, no war.
FFXV mermaid AU -- More Promptis. Noctis fishes up mer-person Prompto. They have adventures. Ignis has to go looking for Noctis later and meets mer-person Gladio.
OW Sagittarius -- Eheh, posted the first chapter of this in January and then just gave up. XD;;;; I feel so bad. An Overwatch teenage McHanzo AU, where Jesse is a centaur sold into slavery to the yakuza. Trained by the Shimada clan, he falls in love with the heir, Hanzo, who then helps him escape. Many years later, they meet again in Overwatch. I have a GOOD plot outline for this, so I really have no excuse for not finishing it. It's on the to-do list after the first few.
FFXV Firstborn son -- Question: is a person still consider a trans-person if they're born female, but both raised as and identify as male (because patriarchal bullshit)? If so: trans-Noctis, Promptis fic.
FFXV Mirror Sword Shield -- Yet another FFXV AU, obviously inspired by that one Coldplay song that I love. Hundreds of years ago, Noctis defeated the darkness, but was sealed away inside the crystal, only to return when he needed to do it again. Prompto, Ignis, and Gladio have trained as his guardians all their lives, for the slim chance that he does return. (I really like this idea, but if I write this one, it'll only be after I finish the other FFXV fics.)
OW BB -- Guess what? Another "Beauty and the Beast" fic, Overwatch flavored. Except it's really more like, "the beast and also another beast". McHanzo, of course, featuring a snarky dragon spirit that constantly taunts Hanzo about his guilt.
BttF Ashes -- Hot damn I gotta write this fic some day. I have a GREAT plot outline for it, following a chiptune song called Ashes. I love it, it makes me cry. It's a Back to the Future AU, about Doc dying when his house burns down. Years later, ghost-Doc teams up with Marty to finish the time machine, and then (spoiler alert) Marty goes back in time and saves Doc, pulling his corporeal self into the future ala The Mediator and they live happily ever after the end. XD
PacRim Redefined -- Another one I feel bad about, because I have posted most of what I have written, but I don't know if I'll ever finish it. It's a far-future semi-AU about Newt and Hermann. TBH it's one of my favorite fics I've ever written, but I'm a loser and can never finish anything. Hopefully next year??? I've got much of a plot outline, so.
Bttf Dino prompt -- Braincoins prompted me last year to write a fic about Marty and a dinosaur, and I started to! But then I had no idea where I was going with it, so I stopped a few pages in. ^^; I'd like to figure out an ending to it that isn't both boring and bleak.
Bttf Solving for X -- A series of short AUs about if either Doc or Marty (or both) were women. I'd like to maybe work on this one again sometime.
HxH AU Laughter Lines -- A Hunter x Hunter fic that makes me cry when I think about it XDXDXD Based on the Bastille song of the same name, it's an AU in which Gon is like... a tree nymph. A little hard to explain, it's a sad little Killugon fic, and it should be pretty short, so I ought to just sit down and write it one day.
BttF Thirst for Romance -- I love this idea! Why haven't I written it?! In his 30's or 40's, Marty is a nurse at a convalescent home/ hospice, where he meets Doc, who loves to tell wild stories. He tells Marty stories about adventures that the two of them had in the 80's and with time travel. Everyone assumes Doc is just very creative and lonely, and they love his stories. He and Marty become close, and when Doc passes away, he leaves his meager possessions to Marty, including a mysterious set of keys which unlock his old garage, and a strange old car inside... (Really want to write this one eventually!) (Based on the song of the same name.)
BttF Hell Valley -- A sad AU, taking place in the Hell Valley timeline from movie 2. Marty has run away from his abusive step-dad and finds himself living in Doc's garage. They're just two broken people trying to get by. Marty wants Doc to run away with him, someplace far away, but Doc has a better idea, if he can get it to work. (Inspired by the song Fast Car, the sad-sounding Jonas Blue version. "You got a fast car. Is it fast enough so we could fly away?")
BttF SG fusion -- and last and possibly least, yet another BttF AU, but a fusion with Steins;Gate, because time travel is not complicated ENOUGH, I have to make it WORSE. In this story, Marty is raised in the dystopian future with the goal of going back to the past to kill Doc Brown before he can create time travel. I liked the idea a lot, but to be honest I think I even confused myself with it. I'd sort of like to keep writing it, but it'll take a lot more effort than I can foresee me wanting to put in any time soon. Tagging: (if I can remember which of my friends write) um... @braincoins, @nomadsky, and, uh... I know that more of you are writers, so just... take it and pretend I tagged you!
#elo talks#long post#elo fics#holy jeez this is long#I have a LOT of WIPs you guys#tag meme#lol I spent hours on this XDl

Tagged by @takran Rules: Tell me your favorite character from 10 fictional works (shows, movies, novels, etc.) and tag 10 people!
THESE ARE GONNA BE IN NO ORDER except for the first one because it's always a thing. Kek.
1. Liam Tsaavik (Sarah made him!) - Okay so why do I keep mentioning this random ass OC that belongs to my roommate? First off, I mean, he's really muscular and handsome so :x Anyway. His story involves a lot of change. Liam came from a family of 15 children, and growing when he left, sold himself to the army as was the norm on his planet, and loved killing people. He was a guy who was violent and quite frankly an asshole, and then he ended up as a wanted man, he fled to Pandora, and continued his rather immoral ways. When he heard about hunting a Siren he went for it just so he could fight one, and thought constantly about killing the shit out of one like he was hunting for a trophy. Then he saw Vira and his whole life changed at that exact moment. Sure, he was still an asshole, and actually still IS an asshole, but he ended up undergoing a shitload of character development. He had a teeny Siren with him to help him get past his life of being treated as property, and help him through his episodes of PTSD, and now he had a conscience. He changed, even though he retains his dark past and disfunctional moral compass. He even still feels better when someone orders him around. He's just such a broken man, but he's covered in little pieces of scotch tape his his Siren has put on him. He is fucking awesome. SO EVERYONE READ MY FUCKING WEBCOMIC
2. Weaver (Dota2) - Weaver is/was my main character when I played Dota. Weaver was also my first SUCCESSFUL hero, and I learned how to play her from a boyfriend at the time (now ex). Playing Weaver unlike anyone else made for some amazing memories, and I will always cherish that little bug. Not to mention her lore is awesome! She's one of the creatures that weaves the fabric of existence. She decided to make her own things, and so she got banished to another dimension. But she was cool with it, because now she gets to make whatever she fuckin wants!
3. Junkrat (Overwatch) - I love Junkrat's play style, I love his aesthetic, and I love that he's the token kooky crazy character, but DONE WELL. He's so fun to play and watch. I love my trash baby.
4. Lucas (Mother 2) - Okay. Lucas. Lucas could be the most tragic character ever. He was a twin, a very young one at that, who lost his entire family. SPOILER FOR MOTHER 3 He lost his mother first, who died to creatures that he knew to be family friends. Then his father entered a horrible depression and hell, even ended up in jail once. And then he learns that the enemy he's been fighting all this time was his long lost brother, who dies at his hands. Lucas. Is. Tragic. But throughout ALL of this, the little guy manages to stay strong and develop his PSI power. He's a selfless fucking HERO and he lead a team of misfits to saving the god damn world because it was simply the right thing to do. He suffered for EVERYONE and asked for nothing in return. Lucas is my fucking baby.
5. Razputin (Psychonauts) - Raz is adorable. He's a powerful psychic and wants nothing more than to be trained. He wants to work hard. He wants to help people. He's just a good fucking guy. He goes through all this trouble to save his friends, the world, and then we learn that he needs to save himself. Through being open and understanding of people with mental illness, he helps them recover by defeating their inner demons. He's altruistic. I love Raz.
6. Luke. Fucking. Skywalker. (Star Wars) - Luke starts out as a KID. Maybe not the youngest, but he still had action figures and dreams of being able to go to school with his friends and do something with himself. He doesn't want to be a water farmer. The poor boy loses his aunt and uncle, then he loses his first master, he loses his second master, he has to save Han, he has to save Leia, he has to fight his own father. I LOVE Luke. I always have. He's a beautiful character in a beautiful story about becoming a man, making friends, fighting for what's right, and helping others.
7. Link (Breath of the Wild) Like Luke, Raz, Lucas, pretty much everyone I love, I love Link for being the hero that gives up everything to save everyone else. I like that trope, I guess. I love that everything is shit and everyone treats him like shit at some point but he never quits. He's also fucking adorable when he shivers and he has an amazing body, soooo. (SIDON TOO OMFG)
8. Mae (Night in the Woods) - Mae is the representation of my generation. In a way. She had something that EVERYONE can relate to, whether it be not knowing what to say to a friend, or being awkward around people, or wanting to get into trouble, or in my case, mental illness and dissociation. Mae isn't a hero. Arguably, she isn't even a good person. But somehow, she manages to wake up every day and go to bed every night. And I find that inspirational, as someone who dreams about accidentally getting hit by a car and dying prematurely. I need characters like Mae.
9. Tony Stark/Iron Man (Marvel) - I love Tony because he's an asshole. He's a narcissistic fuckhead, he doesn't take things seriously very often, and he is just...such a bastard. I love him. He's also smart, talented, educated, whathaveyou, and he uses his abilites and his money for good. I love that he's so chaotic good. He has issues just like everyone else that humanize him, and he understands how difficult he can be sometimes. He's just a good dude and I love him.
10. Rocket Raccoon (Guardians of the Galaxy) - Similar reason to Tony! He's an asshole, who somehow manages to do the right thing. Plus he has a Groot. Who doesn't love Groot? He's uh...ahem. Kinda cute too. He's so teeny. But so badass!
also
Max (Mad Max: Fury Road) - Strong silent type. Hot as hell. Weird things happen to him, he just rolls with it. Does the right thing. I love him. Marry me. Plz.
Nala (The Lion King) - Nala is a badass. She is soooo fucking cool. Even as a cub she could fight better than Simba, and as an adult she kicks so much ass. She leaves her pride behind to find help, probably breaking her own heart in the process. And she just. She kicks the shit out of Simba. And she's his voice of reason when she's Queen. I just LOVE Nala.
Samurai Jack - I've been going through this series lately and I have to say, I love Jack. He is so selfless. He will stop everything he is doing to help someone out, just because they need it. He shares his food with the hungry. He takes off his clothes like, a LOT. He's good people.
Zuko and Uncle Iroh (Avatar: TLA) - I can't even fucking describe these two someone hold me
This list is getting too long.
Also the Walrider from Outlast, Jane Doe from The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Kappa from Sunshine, Frankenstein from Death Race 2000, Hermione from Harry Potter, Springtrip from FNAF, there's too fucking many someone stop me

The Belko Experiment: a movie review with spoilers
During the worst spring break in the history of spring breaks, I had one brief shining moment. That moment was the majesty of the Belko Experiment. This movie, written by the amazing James Gunn, had everything I wanted in a story: psychological wtf moments, gratuitous violence, really good looking hispanic women, and amazing character actors. A great part of this experience for me was being one of 3 people in the theater. The lack of body heat and people shouting on their cellphones was a great compliment to my Oreo’s Dippin Dots. As always...
This was a movie all about a random government company that relocated Americans to Bogota Colombia. I’m sure this happens, outsourcing is still a thing right? Anyway this company was kind of vague, it seemed like they could be any other office where any type of work can be happening. Vagueness = relate-ability. The caveat here is the fact that every employee has a GPS tracker implanted in them, the explanation seemed fair enough, there’s a lot of kidnapping in Colombia and the US values their people so the GPS trackers are set up to protect them. Then things get kind of wild, a deadly social experiment ensues where there was just 1 survivor. Also Adria Ajorna is super hot, she needs to be in more movies/tv/dreams of mine...Let’s break this down
POSITIVES:
James Gunn is one of my favorite writers in Hollywood right now. Dawn of the Dead, Slither, and my favorite Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy are just a few of my favorites. Belko was right in line with these as we had a great mix of humor and some good horror violence.
The cast was perfect. With no overwhelming stars of the movie, everyone just seemed to fit together. The biggest stars were either President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) from the vastly overrated Scandal, Jim Harper (John Gallagher JR) from the preachy hindsight Newsroom, or the ageless wonder who you probably remember as Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley) from scrubs. Seriously he looks like this now...
and he looked like this in Platoon 30 years ago...
We need to figure out his diet...
Anyway my favorite part of this movie was what made the first Saw so good. This movie made feel feel all kinds of empathetic realism. Throughout the movie I was questioning whether or not I would be able to go through with this experiment. Would I be able to kill my coworkers? Would I be okay with taking human lives? Where would I stand when my fight or flight instinct kicks in? I’d like to think my answer is an unequivocal yes, and I chuckle at the thought of my apathetic colleagues being put in this position, but the fact that a movie in which people are killing each other with basic office supplies (seriously I’ve been waiting to see someone use the blade from the guillotine like paper cutter as a weapon since I was in middle school) made me think this deeply and question myself days after watching it either says something about how well put together that movie was, or I’m a flawed individual for relating more to a movie like this than Sleepless in Seattle or The Breakfast Club...
Last I want to make a special shout out to Brent Sexton. The name doesn’t stick out, but he’s this guy....
And he’s a dick in almost everything he’s ever been in. Except for this show The Killing. The first two seasons of that show are absolutely perfect and inspire me to write. It’s dark, depressing, there’s so many twists, I cried at the finale. Literally all the feels possible from this show. Check it out on Netflix.
Negatives:
There are only two blatant negatives from this movie going experience. I loved this movie. I plan on owning this movie. The plot is great, the acting was great, the script was phenomenal...except for the last exchange between our protagonist and antagonist. I’m completely cool with the ending, but their verbal exchange was the equivalent of a playground “I know you are, but what am I?” and that just hurt my soul. Not enough to ruin a movie, but it could’ve been better.
The other screaming flaw that hurt my brain was the trailer to Fast and the Furious 8. The fact that there’s 8 of those movies is soul crushing. It makes me feel completely existential and question the meaning of life and doubt the existence of any kind and altruistic deity. Have our school systems failed this much where this is popular? Is our culture this flawed? Vin Diesel showed more emotion voicing over Groot than he does in these movies. They bring everyone back from the past films, but Eva Mendes? What is the thought process of Hollywood? A fucking submarine and a tank are racing through what may or may not be polar ice caps. That shit makes me root for global warming. Fuck those movies.
Overall:
This movie was a solid 8.5. It bums me out that this movie went so under-promoted and generally unseen. I would definitely see it again, and would recommend it strongly to anyone seeking a different, psychological thriller. Ghost in the Shell may be the next review, I’ve been really into robots and trippy time travel-ish stuff latley. Did I mention what a smoke-show Adria Ajorna is?

Avengers: Infinity War
Last night was the soft opening for the 11 years in the making MCU phase/season/arc/whatever finale that is Avengers: Endgame, but today Friday, April 26th is the official opening day. Yesterday I went to a friend’s place who has a big ‘ol 4K TV and I watched my first UHD in the form of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War (trailer) as a nice refresher going into one of the biggest cinematic releases ever this weekend. I am glad I did experience it again in 4K HD because there were so many little things I forgot and so much transpiring that it made the two and a half hour runtime breeze by before I knew it. Like with my entry on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 yesterday, I will probably tiptoe into light spoiler territory for Infinity War so reader beware! Unlike the previous Avengers film, Age of Ultron, Infinity War does not kick off with the Avengers on another routine mission kicking ass. It is a polar opposite where quintessential Marvel villain Thanos (Josh Brolin), yes that same Thanos who was teased in the post-credit scenes of the previous two Avengers films has finally arrived and lays immediate waste to Heimdall (Idris Elba), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). It is in this opening scene where it is established Thanos is after the six Infinity Stones that were seen scattered throughout previous MCU films to gain ultimate power and use it to instantly eliminate half the world’s population. The dark nature of the opening scene foreshadowed what would be the grimmest, darkest film yet in the entire MCU. While this is a more serious, high-stakes film, there is still a fair amount of witty exchanges and zingers throughout, especially once the Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) get in the mix.
Infinity War sees Thanos and his children travel to all reaches of the galaxy to acquire all six Infinity Stones. This leads to many awesome CG battles involving nearly the entire roster of the MCU sans a handful of characters who are explained why they are absent. This also leads to the fun dynamic of experiencing heroes from different films interact with each other for the first time and sometimes putting differences to the side to combat Thanos or at other times getting in a dispute of 1ups-manship in the case Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Thor. I will give props to the masterful MCU directors Joe & Anthony Russo for experimenting and segmenting off the traditional teams in order to see how new hero mash-ups play out on screen, and they nearly all gelled wonderfully together and resulted in a ton of awesome ‘What If’ scenarios coming to fruition on the big screen. A couple quick favorite team-up scenarios that stood out for me was early team-up scenes with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Hulk/Bruce Banner colliding with Thanos’s forces. Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), ‘teenage’ Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and Thor venture out in their unique arc in order to find the ultimate weapons to take on Thanos in what was an odd, but fun pairing to see unfold. When we get to the final act two huge battles play out simultaneously. A huge battle on the planet, Titan unfolds with Iron Man, Spider-Man, Nebula (Karen Gillan), Peter Quill, Drax (Dave Bautista) and Doctor Strange as they attempt to combine forces in one last gasp to takedown Thanos in one-against-all war that was one of the top highlights of the film.
While the battle on Titan is happening, almost every other MCU hero imaginable teams up in Wakanda to engage in a gigantic war with Thanos’s army. This was a CG delight to consume as almost every hero no matter how big of a lead or periphery they were in past films gets a chance to shine in what is easily the biggest confrontation of any MCU film. I thought it was awesome the Russos’ gave the women time to shine where Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) rally up against Proxima (Carrie Coon). This Wakanda War has a finale and payoff that will be one of the most memorable for not just comic book movies, but nearly all of cinema. Needless to say, JAW-DROPPING MOMENTS OF CONSEQUENCE occur from the fallout of the end of the Wakanda clash and it all builds up perfectly to get everyone primed and ready to see the follow-up to this in Avengers: Endgame. It would not be fair for me to go this whole time without one little quibble, and it is a feint one that I cannot fully get behind, but bears mentioning. This is a star-studded cast, and props for Marvel Studios for squeezing almost everyone in. Unfortunately, this expectedly has the side-effect of some standout stars getting short shrift so everyone can get a modicum of screen time. I was surprised Captain America (Chris Evans) came off as a bit player compared to others and ditto for at least several others. I still am stunned that Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson), who is a constant for many past MCU films, is only in one scene. For what it is worth it seems at least every person I felt who got slighted in screen time at least has a moment or two to have the spotlight on. It oddly reminded me of recent Wrestlemanias where WWE’s roster got to be so enormous the last couple installments went on to be nearly seven hours in order to cram almost the entire roster on the show in some way or another.
While I watched the 4K UHD at a friend’s, I made sure to pull my BluRay out of my backlog box to dive into the extra features. Coming right off GotG2, I love how Infinity War follows the same format for extra features with a making of special, gag reel, deleted scenes and a commentary track. The Marvel gag reels are always a riot, but this one clocks in short at only two minutes! The deleted scenes are worth checking out because it is the only place where Happy (Jon Favreau) makes an appearance and it is where Quill and Drax have a fun argument for control of music over Quill’s precious Zune player. There are four brief making-of specials that combine for just over a half hour. A couple of the specials that focus on the huge cast and another on Thanos feel more like extended trailers with brief interview snippets, but the back half dealing with both of the final act battles are worth checking out as the cast and crew have a lot to show in how they pieced together these huge battles on the big screen. Finally, the commentary with the Russo brothers and writers Christopher Markus and Stephan McFeely is a recommended commentary track worth your listen, or read which I will tip my hat to Marvel to for being one of the few companies out there to subtitle their commentary tracks! Commentary highlights are constant fascinating reactions to the unique hero pairings throughout, love for Brolin’s acting in his mammoth mo-cap setup, interesting insight on why the Russo’s were determined to make sure they got one specific hooded Infinity Stone protector back into the MCU and hearing all four react to the powerful scene between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Thanos. Other than the making-ofs being a little on the lacking side, this is another fine set of extra features from Marvel Studios.
I realize I am many weeks late to saying this, but I highly recommend giving Infinity War a viewing again before going into Avengers: Endgame. I absolutely loved this film from beginning to end, especially on this second viewing. With a year going by after seeing it in the theaters there was so much I forgot that transpired in these two and a half hours. I have not seen such a fast-paced film of at least this length since Inception. Somehow, I have managed to avoid all trailers for Endgame as I did not want a hint of what to expect out of it and I am insanely amped up to see this MCU event that has been building to this finale all the way back since 2008! If you do not have time to give Avengers: Infinity War a re-watch then I hope this entry has at least brought you back up to speed on the broad strokes of it going into Endgame. I cannot think of a better way to wrap this up by quoting what the man, Stan, would say: Excelsior! Top 5 favorite games
Alright so here is the second, part I’ve been spending a lot of time working on this whole thing so I hope you enjoy!
Number 5:The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap Developer and Release year: Nintendo, 2004 Japan, 2005 NA What it can be played on: GBA/ Wii U Virtual Console
So I’m not gonna pretend like 4 of my top 5 picks aren’t Zelda games, that being said the Minish Cap is a game I played more recently, around last year, and at first after beating it I sort of just put it in my top 20, I loved it yeah, but I never really thought about it until now that, even though it was short, every thing about this game was solid and fun to me, the shrinking mechanic was challenging but very well done aesthetically, and the story was good, with the relationship between Link and Zelda, them being childhood friends and Link doing whatever it takes to have his friend back, and the villain Vaati was interesting in his relationship with the Minish (The inhabitants of the tiny world) and his final boss fight being very difficult for me, and the story wraps up nicely as usual, all in all it was a Zelda experience that I truly loved, and my favorite 2D Zelda game.
Favorite part(s): Definitely the Aesthetic and design of the tiny world, and all the charm around the entire game
Number 4:Sonic Adventure 2 Developer and Release year: Sega, 2001 What it can be played on: Dreamcast/Gamecube/PC/PS3/XB360
There it is, probably the most controversial pick on this entire list, unless maybe the next one is too i dont know, but I am a Sonic fan, which is something sort of rare these days, unless you like Mania which is pretty awesome but I’m more of a 3D guy, but this game is my favorite Sonic game because, even though the story is confusing I love it, it was dark and i legitimately felt like Dr.Robotnik was actually a major threat. There are 3 types of gameplay, the Classic Sonic/Shadow, The treasure hunting, and the robot/mech levels that make up the game, the best is the Classic gameplay of Sonic and Shadow, that usually isn’t up for debate, the other modes are pretty fun, but I love the game for the Sonic/Shadow levels, and the game to me really picks up on the Space Colony Ark in the Final Act. The *spoilers ahead* part where Shadow (who I forgot to mention is one of my favorite characters and not because I’m an edgy frick) turns to Sonic’s side and fights the Biolizard to buy them time, Shadow’s character arc was amazing in this game, and the final boss was really fun too, not to mention the soundtrack i mean, it’s a sonic game of course there’s a good soundtrack.
Favorite part(s): Shadow the Hedgehog, his levels, character arc, and general mystery surrounding the black and red anti-hero was amazing to me.
Number 3:The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Developer and Release year: Nintendo, 2011 What it can be played on: Wii/Wii U virtual console
I have defended this game in so many tweets and irl debates it’s incredible, Skyward Sword released to a 10/10 from IGN (that doesn’t matter to me much but it is an accolade) a 93 Metacritic score, which I do care about since it is an overall score and even got some Game of the Year awards in a year where Skyrim, Portal 2, Minecraft, Mario Galaxy 2, and many more were up for contention, but that proves nothing I just wanted to prove that I have argued about it enough that I know what I’m talking about. The main problem everyone has with this game is the motion controls, they say they are not accurate or don’t work, which can sometimes be true but, Scott Falco (he makes the “”with a side of salt series which he has some very good opinions on) says it the best, he said that he didn’t like it sitting down just waggling the wii remote, you’ve gotta stand up and play, then you fell immersed like YOU are the one doing it and not the wii remote, that is what i agree with and stand by anyway. Now past those criticisms I don’t think there are many more, some people don’t like the story, but to me this game has the BEST story in maybe any game I’ve ever played, the Link and Zelda relationship is better than any other game in my opinion and only Breath of the Wild comes close to that relationship in my opinion, now, the rest of the story is intriguing too, the origin of the master sword (I’m not going to comment on Fi, some people got too annoyed with her to focus on her amazing character arc in my opinion) the existence of Skyloft and the very first Link, Zelda, and Ganon in the form of Demise, all of it was done well and was very interesting to me. I liked the gameplay too, I think the new sprinting and stamina system was revolutionary to the series and made movement a lot more improved from previous entries in the franchise. The final act with the boss battle with Ghirahim and eventually Demise were very cinematic and awesome, and with Zelda’s life on the line during the whole thing it made it just that much more intense.
Favorite part(s): THE STORY, I can not say enough how much I love the story but also I loved the boss battles, Demise,Ghirahim,The Ancient Automaton, and all of them were fun to me.
Number 2:The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Developer and Release year: Nintendo, 2017 What it can be played on: Switch/Wii U
This game is a new staple in the Zelda series, the highest selling of all time, a new open world, a Game of the Year winner in almost all the awards shows, and even still people love to pick on this game a little bit, with all the weapon-breaking criticisms, and I know that can get annoying, but it does add a new layer of difficulty to an already difficult game, anyway Breath of the Wild was first known as Zelda for the Wii U, and it was revealed with a trailer at E3 2014 and was slated for release in 2015, of course it got pushed back and with Nintendo now finished with the switch they announced Breath of the Wild as a launch title, March 3rd, 2017 will always be one of my favorite days of all time, as I got my switch and had the first mainline Zelda game release as a fan of the series, and I did NOT stop playing it that night until about 1 AM (thats a rookie number now i mean c’mon I tweeted at 3 AM last night then went ahead and watched a movie) which was super late for me at the time though and I went to bed ecstatic about the game, I had gotten to a part where the story was starting to go forward and I couldn’t wait to finish it, about 6 or 7 days later I did and BOI let me tell ya I loved every second of that week, the gameplay is smooth and fun with combat being re-invented and then the Guardians were really fun because up until the end i didnt know about the shield thing so I would just bash them with all the brute force i had, the final boss fight was incredible (thats a common theme with my favorite Zelda games) and the Dark Beast Ganon fight was really atmospheric and entertaining as well and the ending with the re-uniting of Link and Zelda was so well done and just makes for a perfect ending.
Favorite Part(s): I loved the massive open world and all the secrets and new enemies and shrines to discover, it just made my time playing the game very enjoyable! Plus everything else like the story and the combat.
Number 1:The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Developer and Release year: Nintendo 2002 JP/2003/ 2013 HD What it can be played on: Gamecube/Wii U
The Wind Waker. My unwavering favorite game for who knows how long now, the first Zelda game I ever finished and my introduction to great single player games as a whole really. The Wind Waker released in December in Japan and followed up the next year World Wide, the art style of the cell-shaded characters had never been seen before in a Zelda game and people were skeptical about whether or not it would go down well. Well it released and the people of December in Japan and of March World wide were very pleased with the game and loved it for its gameplay, story, vast ocean and many islands to explore with many hours of gameplay to be put in discovering everything the game had to offer, as for me i wouldnt get to play it for a while longer considering i was VERY young at the time of its release, so I would get to play it when it re-released for the Wii U in 2013, about ten years after the release of the original, I didnt get it though until Christmas of 2015 (or 2014 Im not honestly sure) but it wasnt even my gift, as I’ve said before it was my brother’s and i just watched him play it for a bit and tried it myself after being intrigued, and I dont know if I stopped very much over the course of the time I played it, I was challenged by the puzzles, and from the very opening at Outset Island I loved the art style and loved the characters in the story, with the new unique take on Zelda as Tetra, having Link sailing instead of walking, heck even having Hyrule not even the setting (for most of the game anyway) was new to the series and as my first 3D Zelda game I was captivated by all of it, everything about my favorite franchise now was fresh and new and thats something I’ll never get to experience again which is probably why I remember and still play the Wind Waker which such a fondness today, because of how new everything was to me and how much I enjoyed all of it, not to mention the final boss fight (here we go again) was and is still my favorite, with the world being submerged around you and you and Zelda enclosed with no way out other than through Ganondorf, the games story as always (I hate how repetitive I am) ended very well and to this day it remains one of my favorite stories ever told, and I don’t know if anything will be able to top this game just because of the time in my life in which I got to experience it and with how solid the game as a whole is.
Favorite Part(s): The Wide-open sea and the islands are all so cool and creative, plus the Final boss fight still stands as my favorite to this day.
Thanks a TON for reading through all of this, I had started work on it some time last year and got super busy doing other things during all this time but it really means a ton to me that people would actually care enough to read what I write, or even just skim it,
Thanks -Ben :)
