I think the boys would definitely be a lot more flirtatious to fem!MC!!! (I just wanna call her FeMC so I could say… fem… with a c at the end LOL). This is an all boys school, what do you expect?!

Riddle would definitely blush when you are around, but not too heavily! Sure he finds you attractive but it won’t stop him from fulfilling his duties as a dorm leader! He can’t help himself when he gets flustered talking to you since the only woman he grew up around was his strict mother. Since you’re different compared to her, he can’t tell but feel warmth from you which he wants to keep in his heart.

Ace and Deuce would make jokes at each other’s expense, both of them sorta going neck and neck trying to compete for your attention! They know you guys are just friends… unless..? 😳 Ace would make the snarky remarks while Deuce would threaten to beat Ace up.

Trey would act the same towards you, knowing he has to be a respectful upperclassman! You ALMOST can’t tell he sets aside the cupcake with more fruits or decoration on it for you at the Unbirthday party. Trey would give his signature smirk and wink as he sets it down in front of you.

Cater would take you on shopping sprees and outings to have so many photo opportunities with NRC’s only female student! Girls would flood his comments asking if you were his girlfriend, but he never answered. He secretly hopes you like him back so you could do cute couple things together like match outfits!

Savannaclaw

Leona would still call you herbivore and treat you the same as always. Still as lazy as before. However he can’t help but show off when he plays Magift and you happen to be watching. He lowkey stares at your features and shape of your body when you’re not looking 👀

Ruggie would also mostly act the same towards you, but he would bump into you on purpose so he can have an excuse to touch or smell you! His body tingles when he can smell your scent on the blazer he accidentally knocked into you with! Still treats you the same as ever though!

Jack would be gentler towards you, he knows how rough and big his body is, he doesn’t want to accidentally hurt you! His personality is still the same, don’t think he’ll treat you any differently because you’re a girl!

Azul would try to make shady deals with you to offer you protection against students who may be too forward with you since you’re a girl. In exchange? For you to work at the lounge! and spend time with him. He secretly likes you but would never tell you to uphold his reputation and he is also afraid of rejection ;w; Azul would also not mind seeing you wearing the lounge uniform, fufufu…

Jade would would act more like a butler type! You also find him nearby sometimes, feeling his striking gaze looking at you. He’s always there when someone is trying to confess to you and you look uncomfortable. “Oya oya, do you need some help, miss?” His voice teasingly echoes through the halls, scaring off the guy who was trying to hit on you. Jade would stretch out his hand and escort you to wherever you needed to go.

Honestly? Unless you had a super “girly” appearance, Floyd wouldn’t have noticed until he gave you a hug to squeeze you, noticing your body was different… more squishy... and your bone structure is different. Shrimpy is so squeezable!!! Huh? He has to be wary of your chest? He’ll just lift you up by your tummy! You being a girl doesn’t stop the hug train!

Scarabia

Kalim wouldn’t treat you any differently! He would still definitely invite you over as often as possible, not realizing his sweetness may come off as flirtatious! Might develop a small crush on you :) imagines all the pretty outfits he could buy you from his homeland

Jamil would at first be wary of you but once he realizes you aren’t a threat to Kalim or the school, he stops doubting you. Definitely isn’t the type to judge you differently based on your gender!

Pomefiore

Vil would smirk and think he finally has someone else to practice makeup on! He definitely uses you as a model to show off his products, whether it be makeup, skincare, clothing, etc!

Rook would be… protective. He likes you because you’re different, and he would subtly follow and stake you out to see what things you’re doing differently at NRC as a girl. Rook offers silent protection against those he sees as a threat to you before you can even notice.

Epel would definitely try to prove his manliness in front of you if Vil isn’t in the vicinity! Going out of his way to carry heavy items, be tough, etc. If YOU tell him he’s manly, it’s certainly gotta mean something right?!

Ignihyde

Idia thinks it’s like some sort of anime trope, you’re the female protagonist and it’s like a reverse harem because the whole school is full of boys! Cough cough breaking the fourth wall here! He would probably be more… nervous around you, not like he would ever get close anyways, but still! The idea of the only girl at school actually being friends with you and maybe becoming more makes his heart beat faster.

Ortho would not. Perceive you any differently LOL. He’d be intrigued would say like “A girl? Cool! The body analyses I’ve done from everyone around you reads their body temperatures higher and their hearts are all beating faste- MMPH!” He would be silenced by ADeuce…

Malleus…. Once he knows how you don’t fear him and how you like him even without knowing who he is. All he can think of is how beautiful you would be as his queen. Who can blame him? Lilia would use his experience in his vast years of dating to his advantage, knowing what ways to talk to a woman best. He swears he is only flirting with you for fun! The way your cheeks puff up in embarrassment is just too cute to resist! He certainly doesn’t mind a gender neutral MC, but Lilia can appreciate the beauty in every gender and he certainly appreciates your beauty!

Silver said 😪😴 . You notice Silver has more of a knightly approach to you, offering to protect you when you need it. He understands how a situation between one girl and hundreds of male students could provide a sense of fear, so Silver would always be there to protect you if you need!

Sebek would blush when you’re around, but he thinks you’re trying to use feminine charm and wiles to seduce the young master, even though all you did was make a yawn noise, flip your hair, or put on a bit of makeup! You have to explain to him that you aren’t doing anything to try to seduce anybody. You just wanted to go to school. He is doubtful but finally agrees. Maybe he was becoming victim to your charm instead?

Avdol is such a kind and understanding soul but still never afraid to voice his opinion in an earnest manner. He’ll appreciate that sentiment in his partners too, open to many ideas and understanding others’ way of thinking.

He does enjoy someone who’s a bit rowdy or playful to help bring out that side in him. Being silly together and just overall heightening the playful atmosphere really puts him at ease.

That’s the exact reason he secretly loves a little bit of chaos around him. Avdol himself is calm and determined but drama and unexpected events always seem to follow him. Don’t worry though, he loves being able to stride in and show off his abilities he’s so proud of!  

Be sure to work on your debate skills though, the man is a whole library of knowledge and if you end up in a discussion he needs you to be able to offer your substantiated opinion. If you talk him into a corner, be sure to soften the blow to his ego with lots of hugs and kisses afterwards 😌

Style-wise the man doesn’t have strong preferences. Earthy tones and a natural flare complement his own style very well though, so he loves a bit of a scholarly look as well. Let this man spoil you for the love of all that is good!!!

He has SO much love to give and he will shower you by the bucketload so you better enjoy his antics! He thrives off of complementing you, albeit with the cheesiest lines, anything to see your cheeks flush. Also expect lots of cute gifts!!

If you’re a bit clumsy, get embarrassed easily and are a bit shy... Polnareff will never let you go, he’s so smitten by the way you stand behind him so often while meeting new people as he chatters away. He’ll pull out his best charming jokes to get you to laugh and when he sees how cute you are trying to hide your smile he’ll come smother you with kisses.

Loves it when you go along with his jokes and impulsive nature but prefers it if you’re a bit more responsible, the man struggles with self control so needs some guidance and someone to hold up the stop signs.

He will also look up to a more dominant person just as much, wanting to make sure he does everything to be on his best behaviour to please you. But he never looses that cheeky side and loves getting reprimanded for it. (not just in the bedroom, daily life as well) So make sure to keep that leash tight ;D!

Boss him around a little too much and he’ll pick you up just to smirk at you until you shut up. Eye-rolls are the dead give away that you like him and he’ll gladly accept them along with the annoyed sighs.

If you reside on the other side of the spectrum- playful and offering a childlike wonder too, he’ll take it all the way. Everyday is a silly playdate, joking around, showing off, any way to impress you and pull you along into the fun.

He LOVES vintage clothes, the fifties are his favourite era style wise and adores it when you dress the part. I haven't written much about what I've been up to lately, so here's some word salad updates~ 🥗

NijiGaku Anime

So I started watching the new LL. I hadn't been keeping up with SIFAS' story, but I did read some of it when it first came out. I gotta say, I'm really enjoying all of the changes they decided to make for the anime version of the story, to both the characters and story. It's starting to feel like something coherent. The story in the game was ok, but the main thing that interested me was the interactions with Muse and Aqours, overshadowing the actual "plot" and even Nijigasaki themselves. But the anime really made me interested and excited about the story and characters again. I would be a little annoyed about the personality and dynamic changes, but honestly, I'm used to it by now. LL always ends up doing this sort of thing, and the personalities only seem to become solidified after the anime airs.

A little disappointed in Kasumi's change in some vague ways I don't really feel like describing, but honestly it balances out because Ayumu is fantastic now (previously one of my least cared for of the group.) Yu's personality is surprisingly super gay fun and I'm really excited for her and Ayumu's dynamic in particular. They're so cute. Seriously feel like I'm gonna ship them hard.

I also really like Rina's initial personality in this. Not only is she bad at expressing emotions through her face, but she also seems bad at expressing them through words too. I feel like this is gonna be much more interesting than her already being cutesy and genki like in the promo stuff and SIFAS.

When Karin was first shown, I had mixed feelings. At first I was like oh god I'm gay and she's beautiful. But the whole sexuality flaunting thing kind of put me off for several reasons I don't really wanna get into explaining. I really didn't know how to feel. I started liking her a little more during SIFAS, when she competed against Muse in DDR and lost... started feeling like I was getting a glimpse of her real personality without the whole sexy idol persona. Although not much has happened in the anime with her yet, she's giving me Nozomi vibes and I love it. I actually think if I had gone into this without previous knowledge of the characters, I'd be betting she'd become my fave for sure.

My list has gone from Kasumi > Rina > Kanata / Emma > Karin > Ai > Setsuna > Ayumu > Shizuku to Yuu > Ayumu > Kasumi / Karin > Rina > Kanata / Emma > Ai > Setsuna > Shizuku

Still biased a bit towards characters that have shown up more in the first two eps, so it'll undoubtedly change. But It's really interesting how much the characters I already felt I had good placements for changed so much.

Edit for episode 3, because I didn't post this fast enough. Student council speedrun was fantastic. Yu continues to be incredibly gay. I wonder how this episode will affect the ships people will gravitate towards. LL has always been a fairly monoship fandom, heavily gravitating towards specific pairs. Of course that's largely the fault of canon itself, often pushing and developing single ships. Well, I suppose we saw a big change with Aqours, though, especially with season two. But even then, the ships tended to stay at least between girls of the same year (aside from my rarepair, shout-out to YohaRiko.) Now, I wonder. From the very beginning, before Yu even had a name, it felt like they were really pushing the shippy stuff @ the viewer. I wonder if that’s still gonna be the angle. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. I really want to see more YuAyu rather than YuSetsu, but I can't really be mad at more gay content unless they try to make it a DEEP story and then fail to resolve it but haha they'd NEVER do that, I'm sure!!

As for the others... I'm guessing they're gonna push RinAi, KarinEmma, YuuKasu, and maybe YuuShizu? My original guesses were that AiKarin would be a thing, evoking NozoEli v3. But I guess that'd be too predictable a third time. KarinEmma sounds like it could be cute and sweet, RinAi feels like it has adorable potential, and YuKasu vs. YuAyu sounds like it could have some good comedic rival-y potential, given they don't make Kasumi super serious about it and make it really angsty. Not that a cute idol show would ever do such a thing haha!!!!!

Higurashi Gou

Also started Higurashi. I doubt many people know this, but I used to be a major Higurashi fan before I got into Touhou. It was my main "fandom" I guess, even though there wasn't really that much of a fandom to interact with comparatively. Anyway, despite that, I didn't think I'd get into this remake super hard... but I'm really loving it so far. The art style is really pretty and eye candy, and it turns out it's a direct continuation of the story rather than a remake. Very excited to see where it's going, and also to see a lot of my baby Rena again.

An interesting difference to me as I'm rewatching are my feelings for Keiichi. While I don't hate him, over the years I've really grown tired of the generic male leads (especially in harem anime) like him. Of course, he's definitely not AS generic as they come, or maybe perhaps that's just my bias from when I used to really like him. The me back then found him unique enough to stand beside the girls. Nowadays, I definitely can't say the same. At least he doesn't grate on my nerves as much as most other harem anime protags do, however. I feel like despite lacking the quirks that make the girls so likeable and unique, he still has something going for him... perhaps the fact he's framed as inherently different from everyone else, because he comes from the city, and the way he acts a bit more realistically to the scary things that are happening. Although those things are obviously explained away later, at least for now I still accept him for what he is, old bias or not.

Genshin Impact

Been playing Genshin Impact religiously and loved every second of it. Though I've caught up with the main story content, so sadly it's slowed down. I'd never heard of this game before it came out, so I was absolutely wowed that such a game was f2p. I've heard a lot of people criticizing it because they added gacha in at the last minute, and I definitely understand being annoyed through the pov of someone who was anticipating it. But part of me is still really thankful that the game is free at all. I suppose that full but paid 60 dollar game would still be a better experience, but because of my non-existent budget situation, I may not have ended up playing it at all.

Aside from the arguably shitty monetization practices, however, the game is fantastic. It really is as similar to BoTW as people have mentioned, and I really appreciate that. BoTW, from a gameplay standpoint, is absolutely my favorite game. It's exactly what I want from any given game. So I really appreciated this. The story and characters of Genshin are also really interesting. I really like Qiqi, Venti, Fischl, and Xingqiu, among others. I spent a while rerolling for Qiqi or Venti 5*s, and eventually got an account with Qiqi. Venti on the other hand I've been trying to roll for but sadly haven't gotten. I have 1 roll left before the banner ends, so hopefully.. My friends whaled him for me. I swear I tried to stop them! I owe them my soul...

HoloLive, Pikamee & Vtubing

I briefly started getting into HoloLive a little while ago. After the Aloe stuff, I started worrying a bit about how the company handles these situations as well as the girls' freedoms and how much of their donation money they actually get.. (I made a post about it a while back.) After a while my worries died down a bit, but then came back full force with the Coco and Haachama situation. After that and one too many uncomfortable sexual jokes, I decided to just distance myself from HL. It's a shame, because I really enjoyed their personalities, but it was making me feel uncomfortable more often than not.

I told myself it’s fine, I’ve got Pikamee if I ever feel like watching vtubers again. And then like a week later... Well, it’s not really something I wanna talk about here, but she made some posts on twitter that made me too uncomfortable to continue watching her either.

On a much lighter note... A friend of mine showed us how to use prprlive and facerig to use the Touhou CB Live2D models, and Asa and I played around with Mokou, Kaguya, and Lyrica’s. It was quite fun, and I do look forward to using the Kaguya one for private streams on one of my servers. I’ve actually always wanted to try out vtubing stuff myself, but not really publicly. Of course, the costs for getting a model drawn and made specifically for me are too much for something I’m not really committing to, so this is perfect. I’m excited~

Touhou Cannonball & Kagura Thoughts

It’s been a long time since I talked about Touhou CB on my blog, and I’m pretty sure I left things on a pretty bad note. Mainly dissatisfied with Mokou’s portrayal for pretty shallow reasons on my part, despite they game having just started and having a lot of room to grow. And grow it did. While I quit pretty early in because of that, Asa decided to take over my account. She realized that it was pretty easy to upgrade any given character you had to a 5* without having to rely much on the gacha. She ended up playing a lot with the goal of upgrading everyone we had. I came back to it around July and actually had a lot of fun with it. The cast had gotten much bigger and we really enjoyed playing on multiplayer. It wasn't the best game ever from a gameplay standpoint, but it definitely had it's charm. The announcement of its death, although unsurprising, came at the worst time. Asa and I actually cried a little when we saw the announcement, ngl. The game had such good, wholesome, Touhouy vibes to it. Nonetheless, we made the most out of the last month or so after the announcement. We played a LOT of multiplayer and had a lot of really cute and good interactions with other players. Near the end, we realized that Lyrica was the only character from the normal banner we were missing, so we grinded like crazy (mostly Asa) to try to get her... we ended up getting a number of 5*s but none Lyrica... she eluded us to the very end. It was quite sad, but how hard we worked for it still felt satisfying somehow. We were able to max out our multiplayer level and complete a ton of goals we wouldn’t have otherwise.

So after this bittersweet experience with Touhou gacha, and all the scummy things I've been hearing about Lost Word, I've been thinking like... I'm done with Touhou gacha, at least for now. Don't wanna hear anything else about it for a good while. And then the 25th anniversary hits and they announce Kagura. Ugh. Please, give me a break. Needless to say, I'm gonna have to give it a try. Touhou is my life, I love rhythm games, I love Touhou music, and I love character collecting games. And I've been waiting for something to replace SIF gameplay in my heart for a long time. I'd banked my hopes on SIFAS but it's really barely a rhythm game so.... at least now that I've gone through CB's death and seen how cruddy LW is, I'll have lower standards and not get my hopes up too high.

oooooh yes!!!!!!! you came to just the place! im just gonna list some of my faves, hang on cause this is gonna be a LONG one (im not sure what your cutoff for Old is so i just went with 1960)

silent:

wings: really well done visually, also features the first gay kiss in history (ofc the context is different, but it’s there!)

nosferatu: the legendary spongebob character’s origin story! the music is wonderful in this, it’s very Artsy, just one of the greatest horror movies ever (it’s a bit slow at times but most silent films are)

the cabinet of dr caligari: REALLY cool from an art perspective, the sets are incredible, i love german expressionism, another great one for when you’re in the mood to get Spooky

steamboat bill, jr: buster keaton is a legend for a reason, this is my personal favorite of his. theres also something very unique and charming about silent film slapstick that i just adore, and this is a wonderful showcase of it!

the gold rush: basically the same reasoning as above, but with charlie chaplin. also this movie has a lot of genuine emotion you dont often get from silent comedies!

sunrise: a song of two humans: a must-see for silent films, it has super intriguing visual effects that really give a dreamlike quality to it, as well as great acting for the limited medium

show people: a really sweet classic romance that also gives you a nice (if not totally accurate) taste of The Movie Biz @ the time

metropolis: one of the first sci fi movies ever. visually STUNNING like nothing ive ever seen, also a bit of a workers of the world unite moment

noir/drama/general Serious Stuff: 

the big sleep: SEXY! the plot is hard to follow but it’s worth it for the characters and also just all i can say is. hot - it’s about a murder or two!

the maltese falcon: actually makes sense and like. Says Stuff abt humanity. gripping plot and nuanced characters -about a bird statue and the knights templar also human nature but also who could forget a murder or two!

sunset boulevard: absolutely enthralling characters, script, plot, performances, all of it! - it’s about a murder!

rebel without a cause: HUGE gay subtext with this one, one of the original Teen Movies

kiss me deadly: interesting!!!!! i was intrigued from start to finish w this one and you probably will be too

strangers on a train: one o those Psychological Thrillers, interesting n well acted - it’s about The Concept of Murder

north by northwest: super fast paced spy action movie that also #makes you think

murder, my sweet: another classic phillip marlowe story with that fast talkin detective dialogue i love so much - it’s about a murder! (my sweet)

double indemnity: the height of Cynicism in noir, not even any detectives in this just bad deeds and Tension -it’s about a murder or two!

key largo: just a hotel full of intriguing characters all At Odds with each other and the concept of heroism

random harvest: kinda cheesy amnesia plot but comes across well with good acting and dialogue

the lady vanishes: about a lady. who vanishes. funny at times and has that Classic hitchcock tension before he really landed on his final style

casablanca: “here’s lookin at you kid” “i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship” just. one of the most iconic movies of the whole Classic Era and for good reason!

to have and have not: basically casablanca BUT consider this- i love Them (them being humphrey bogart and lauren bacall)

comedy/romance/general Light Stuff:

the thin man series: one of my absolute all time favorites! it’s just a story about two rich people who only love each other and alcohol getting dragged into solving various mysteries. my favorite thing about this is how much you can tell they love each other, like they’ve been married for years and just banter back and forth in a way founded on mutual respect n adoration which is So refreshing to see in classic movies!

it happened one night: i ADORE this movie! it’s a classic road trip comedy with a ton of bizarre side characters and hijinks, and also basically Invented the rom com genre. they’re also genuinely in love in a very cute way! it’s just sweet and fun and one of my fav movies of all time

arsenic and old lace: a dark comedy about old lady serial killers, brothers who think theyre theodore roosevelt and frankenstein (respectively), and Love. it’s super bizarre but a real joy to watch!

it’s a wonderful life: makes me sob every single time and leaves ya with that fuzzy warm feeling inside (recommended for christmas/winter viewing)

duck soup: i mean it’s the most iconic marx brothers movie, what more can i say!

bringing up baby: just a real wacky romp where it’s the lady and the tiger, with a whole lot of silly comedy

my man godfrey: makes fun of rich people n has a big loud ensemble cast (also romance)

the shop around the corner: they fall in love through letters but hate each other in real life! :0! bonus points for jimmy stewart’s voice

abbott and costello meet frankenstein: the title says it all. completely joyfully stupid movies like these are a big reason why i love old movies!

roman holiday: audrey hepburn’s debut movie. really sweet, has an ending that makes me cry

death takes a holiday: super interesting experimental concept not seen often in this era - Death literally takes a holiday and has to deal w life n love n all that

sabrina: a very nice and well acted little romance/cinderalla story w sprinkle of comedy

the philadelphia story: another Classique rom com with a love triangle n some nice fast-paced witty dialogue

musicals:

singin in the rain: one of the first classic movies i ever remember loving. every second of it is just. ah chef kiss

guys and dolls: very fun!!! just emblematic of good ol showtunesy musicals as a whole 

top hat: fred astaire and ginger rogers!! need i say more?

on the town: really fun music n choreography, generally engaging to watch

cabin in the sky: an all black cast with a ton of great songs n talent! 

the great ziegfeld: a really lovely period piece about 20s live shows with stunning costumes/choreography

gentlemen prefer blondes: it’s classic baby!

meet me in st louis: very sweet very fun lots to love

an american in paris: kinda ran out of juice near the end here and realized Musicals is the Same. anyways watch it gene kelly is charming and can click his heels together 

horror/sci fi

dracula: sexy. iconic. what more do you need

frankenstein: really has a Heart unlike a lot of these, also Iconic

bride of frankenstein: made me cry! see above but like, More

just realized im listing all the universal monster movies, so just, watch Any of those for a good and cheesy classic horror time

the day the earth stood still: a real cold war era movie about aliens and morality

plan 9 from outer space: a HILARIOUS so-bad-it’s-good old sci fi movie, highly recommend 

them!: giant radiation ants babey! really good effects for the time n well done suspense

honorable mention: this is past the cut off date but watch santa claus conquers the martians oh my gosh it’s the epitome of old b list sci fi and it never fails to send me n pals into a regular Laugh Riot

He doesn’t celebrate birthdays, but you could say on Saint Nataniel’s day. Which is often celebrated in June or August, but he’s actually crash landed on Earth during winter

Either Gemini or Aquarius. Gemini: Communication, Indecision, Inquisitive, Intelligent, Changeable. A jack of all trades, but a master of very few of them. Hence, able to generate surface communication about virtually any subject. Quick intelligence, good at multi-tasking. Requires stimulation, variety and enjoys fast-paced situations. That ain’t it buddy. I know who I am and I know what I said and actually that’s exactly what I meant. I didn’t correct it because I was too busy laughing at someone calling me racist against my own race and showing all my friends 😂😂😂 Didn’t think it’d be taken that seriously.

I know you’re done hearing and whatever I say will be seen as a twist but I’ll let you in a on a bit of deep lore, because it’s good to know.

It happens to every Kpop group alright. For a long time now, the concept of Asian beauty can often mean imitation of certain natural Western features: the nose surgery to make the bridge higher, the double eye lid/larger eyes, circle lenses to get rid of brown eyes, even dyed hair (but everyone dyes their hair so you can say that’s a stretch). And I won’t say it really bothers me because while I choose not to do it, if plastic surgery makes you feel more confident and beautiful, by all means do it. What I do sometimes pity is that I think there needs to be more appreciation for the “slanted” monolid eyes that can look so charming, and the cute button noses and so on. But I find that Kpop stylists tend to prefer styles that make all their artists as subtly “Western” as possible. Of course it’s still a look, most of the time its just a certain style of makeup and they are celebrities and it’s their job to try out different things but I just happen to prefer the more natural look, and I hope that they would too. There shouldn’t be so much damn pressure to look not like yourself, even though I know Asian cultures regard the surface level beauty to a high high extent.

I think I can say pretty objectively it happens to many groups. If you need a solid example, watch live SNSD videos in Genie/Gee era and compare them to The Boys era (when they were trying to go for the “global” appeal).

Which is why, I often make remarks like “black hair is so much better them” and such. I know some people will misunderstand, and I can’t bring myself to really get too frazzled by it, because I know what my opinions are backed up by, and honestly, perhaps it’s just a wish for us all to stop being too shallow and learn to appreciate everything on the surface regardless of what it is.

And yes, perhaps there’s a reason I can say all this because I’m Asian myself, so I’ve seen all this unravel in people close to me who aren’t even celebrities. That comment wasn’t even original, as I remember seeing it in a YT comment for a kpop idol group 5 years back, albeitedly when most fans were still mostly Asian still. There are some things that usually Asians would be more prone to notice in these idols, having heard a lot it growing up like “god i wish you had double eyelids!” or “i wish i had a higher nose bridge”…etc etc. I know you intended to be hurtful calling it a fetish or whatever, but as you can see it’s really not that lol. Even if I were subconsciously attracted to solely Asian people (which I’m not, but could happen…I guess), that could easily be explained by psychology, which dictates that we are more attracted to people who tend to look more like us. Still don’t believe me? Go ask some of your own Asian friends if you have them.

tl;dr i’m not just some random chick spewing shallow things on the internet. and i know people know that, and know not to judge off a single comment i made. perhaps i was wrong to say it because i forgot that not everyone grew up in some strict Asian culture or would understand BUT that doesn’t mean you should go off and make assumptions either. im not exactly for being politically correct, and im sure if someone wanted to tear my words apart they could probably 😅. even if this response gets twisted or whatever, it doesnt matter to me because at the end of the day, i know who I am.

i recommend you take all this powerful energy for justice you have off the internet and do something useful irl with it ^^ join a anti bullying organization, a club, a rally, a debate team..etc. this is the wrong place, cause as you can see i personally really dont bring any true harm to the world…for the most part. in the off chance that you still really truly care that much: DM me. I can try and ease your consciousness lol.

I really dig how Bandai’s Super Mini-Pla line is coming out with affordable, fully-functioned versions of more and more classic Sentai Mecha (as well as others, hey Voltron and Gridman!). Case in point: I really never thought I’d get a good toy of the regular robot from my long-standing fave Choujin Sentai Jetman, but here I am now, having assembled Jet Icarus in sweet tiny plastic-model form. Barely took me an afternoon, and it was definitely worth it.

The individual jets of the Jetmans aren’t exactly the most thrilling designs on their own. Sentai was just moving away from boxy vehicles bashing together at this point (with Zyuranger’s mecha a year later really revolutionizing things), so what you get is five chunky planes doing their best to look distinctive and evocative of their namesake birds. Jet Hawk being the center Red of the bunch is the most individualistic, but also kind of the most unintentionally hilarious? Like it has to form the center torso of the robot, so it’s curiously cuboid in a very noticeable way, even as you assemble and fiddle with it and realize how much moving bits it has going on to facilitate all that. Honestly, putting it together and seeing how it works makes me appreciate it more in spite of its, shall we say, charming proportions.

Conversely, Jet Swan and Jet ‘Condol’ make for probably the most coherent jets, and they’re barely distinct as a result. The design of Jet Icarus as a whole is really committed to a homogenized combined robot form, and that means these bits forming the legs get to be as similar as possible. It’s actually nice assembling them, once again, to really become aware of the bits they have that do differentiate them, like the wing shapes and accompanying decals, and how Jet Swan tries to work in more whites and pinks while the Condor just commits to the overall black scheme with some red accents.

And then there’s the arms, Jet Owl and Jet Swallow (go ahead and laugh). These are definitely the most clearly-compromised, being as they are Just Arms with wing-packs stapled on. Jet Owl in particular with its underslung surfboard and adorable bug-eyes at least rocks its particular flavor of goofy. Meanwhile, I may be biased since Ako is my favorite Birdman ranger by a country mile, but I think Jet Swallow works pretty well for what it is, mounting that sleek shield-to-be set of moving wing-blades on top and wearing that swish blue color scheme and narrowed eyes like a boss.

As is often the case with these types of Sentai bots, there’s an intermediary big-combined-vehicle thing mode for these, and it’s actually really cool. I’ve always loved how impressively-solid the Jet Harken looks, bits and corners folding out to streamline the thing into a singular wedge shape. It’d make for an impressive combined display on its own if you had a flight stand for it. Anyway, the transformation and combination to this or the proper Jet Icarus mode can be surprisingly involved. Well, the legs and chest anyway, the arms just kinda pop on. There is some slight partsforming here, having to swap some panels on the feet and attach the fists, but it’s surprisingly unobtrusive given what I’ve seen other Mini-Pla get up to.

And the combined Jet Icarus is pretty impressive in this format. I’ve always dug the heck out of what an unabashedly basic design this thing goes for, you can practically *see* the cardboard boxes they built the suit out of. It’s honestly more impressive that they figured out a working transformation to this simply-shaped mecha from the variously-angular jets, and the model kit shows how it works quite nicely. This is also where the details of the Super Mini-Pla get to shine, with the pre-painted gold chest bits and head details adding that extra touch of quality you would want with being the only working toy of this thing available in the past twenty years. He’s super-posable too, with fairly complex hip jointing and Gundam-skirt-style armor to accommodate it, elbows and knees with tons of range, even some pretty broad ankle posability. It’s pulled off via some pseudo-sliders that I’m not crazy about, it kinda feels like you’re about the disassemble the feet if you pull them out too far. But my misgivings aside, they do work just fine. It’s also got an absolute buttload of weapons. I think I naturally favor the ol’ sword and shield, but if you want you can kit the robot out with any combination of the absurd amount of pointy things it includes, particularly the friggin’ giant morning star.

Even apart from the association with one of my favorite toku series ever, this is just a cool little set of model kits that combine into one bigger, cooler model. Like a lot of the Super Mini-Pla sets, it properly captures the old-school appeal of a design like this, while updating its functionality to the standards we would want. It’s a fun build, with a fun toy resulting once you’re done. I’m real glad I picked it up, and that I didn’t wait too long to put it together. *looks forlornly at lingering unbuilt model kits*

QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?

I'd have to say the first real heart-to-heart that Hyde had with Lucy.

I have to admit that Lucy is one of the characters I proudest of. I worked very hard on her to not only make her progressive, but also deep. I wanted to give her a reason for being as she is.

for me, my favorite scene is probably the one where jekyll is in the mirror having given hyde full control and resigning himself to be gone forever. and then hyde comes back and tells him nah dude well work this out. i really just loved the subtle build-up looks where hyde is looking at things like the letter jekyll was leaving and such. it was also very touching and really showed hyde's heart through all the huffing and puffing

I felt is was high time the world got a version of Hyde who was good and still "Hyde" enough. In every adaptation I've seen, Hyde is always bad. And the very concept Robert Louis Stevenson had on good and evil was deep at the time, but now, we know that it's not true. What I did was bold and maybe "wrong" to some people, but it's the truth.

I like how both Doc and Hyde have a plausible and sensible mix of good and bad personal qualities. Their interplay is more akin to 'The Odd Couple" than the usual metaphors of id vs superego or drug addiction that I see in other adaptations of the story.

Ha! Well, I like to think that by troll standards, Hyde doe faced.

I did that purpose too. If we did what was expected and made Jekyll completely submit to Hyde, that would be expected and dull.

No offence to webcomic writers who take that route.

Which could be considered good and evil, respectively, in a Victorian mind? Maybe? Not really my period of history, so I don't feel comfortable being definite.

Jekyll and Hyde had a lot of complex themes when it came to duality don't forget such as having dark secrets one would be very ashamed of for the Victorian age especially.

like there are mean people who do terrible things, but it's never framed as a funny thing or as just something that happens in life that we can't change

Fave bit of what I've read was probably at the ball, when we get the extra whammy of who Emma was with. I hadn't expected that. Then when Jekyll is trying to shrug it off, Emily interjects, that was awesome. I really like Emily.

Emily is the kick in the pants that Jekyll needs sometimes. I also like Lucy for similar reasons, actually (standing up for herself, whereas with Emily it's for her uncle).

i appreciated that emily didnt forgive jekyll for the tennis thing and for not standing up for her. cause that was a point where i was glad she was gonna stop being an enabler of jekyll's flaws in a more slap in the face wake up call kind of way

QUESTION 2. Two major themes of the comic are what it means to be a better person in the face of personal flaws and how one might learn to be better. Insofar, what has been your favorite moment of growth for any of the characters showcased in the comic? What about this moment struck you as particularly strong? In the larger picture, do you think Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde really will continue to help each other to grow? Further, in what ways do you think the two characters can grow further as people? Alternatively, might the two reach a limit where they are no longer able to help each other in this manner? What flaws might both still continue to deal with long term? Overall, how do you think these changes will affect how both characters deal with life, and what can we personally learn from it as readers?

It's kind of interesting, because Hyde never even had a memory before the transformation. So in some sense, he's a blank slate, and thus everything is growth.

In the beginning, Hyde was doing it for himself, but he inadvertantly helped people. Some part of him must have liked that, because now he does it to help and fight against the system.

Okay, so obviously each of our protagonists has a massive, salient character flaw that comes out fairly early on. Jeckyl is too afraid of confrontation, and would rather get shafted than make a scene. Meanwhile Hyde, as @mathtans noted, is very self-centered--in rather a childish way, which makes sense in the context that Mat noted.

Each is well-placed to advise the other and point out that he's being a tool and why.

And -- very importantly -- they can't ignore each other

While each man is far from perfect, we're already seeing them improve in the face of the other's prodding, and finding themselves happier for it

yeah seeing jekyll just being like nope was a really satisfying in that moment. like seeing your little boy suddenly grow up.

It's a lot of things and it's complex which will be explained more and more as the story goes on.

my favorite moment of growth is actually when hyde apologizes to lucy. because apologies are legit one of the hardest things to do i think for ppl. because thats a lot of stabbing for the personal ego, and the more prideful, the harder it is. so heres hyde, probably one of the most prideful ppl in the comic, admitting that he said some messed up shit and screwed up. that was a beautiful moment cause taking that many stabs to his ego was a showcase of how far hed come that hed go through such a grand gesture and damage his pride.

Hyde also really has no filter when he's talking, while Jekyll has like, massive overthinking of everything before he speaks. It's a live-in-the-moment attitude versus thinking about the future. So if there is a "limit" where they can't help each other, I imagine Jekyll would see it coming.

i agree w @RebelVampire about that scene, it shows that even if hyde is an opposite to jekyll personality wise, he isn't morally opposite and can be a good person who admits mistakes

Speaking of opposites, here's a fun thing I realized. Jekyll loses his job, and his girl, and we feel badly for him. That thug guy Tom ALSO loses his "job" and his "girl" (if shaking down stores can be a job), but because he's on the wrong side of the law (and a jerk), we don't feel badly for him.

Well, neither of their flaws are really things that need to be completely removed. They just need to be moderated. Hyde needs to learn a bit of impulse control, and Jeckyl needs to learn to loosen up a bit.

But neither of their attitudes towards life are bad per se, so long as they're not taken to extremes... as they have been doing

yeah im really interested to see if jekyll's biggest challenge in growing is moderation. cause i didnt entirely disagree with him in certain contexts. like at the party, i was kind of on his side that sometimes just letting things go is better and that theres a time and place for certain...coversations as it were.

I'm amazed Lucy doesn't carry a knife or something. Most prostitutes in cities carry something for self-defense (if they're smart), and the habit would likely carry over into working at a bar. Plus Victorian ladies' clothes are REALLY good for concealing weapons. You have to see it to believe it

There's a reason she has scars. Like Lucy said, her getting slapped wasn't the worst assault a man had ever done on her. She is brave and tough, but she's not super strong. Lots of men can overpower her and have, but she's not prostitute. She's a waitress, but she is poor so that still makes her an easy target.

Again, to be clear, I don't think anyone should root for Tom. Just, he had similar stuff happen and approached things in a way that neither Jekyll nor Hyde would. (Very wrongly.)

lucy would also need an exit strategy if she used the knife on tom. she would probably have to run away and lay low, which could be more dangerous than staying with him.

Also, her hair isn't right. One of the more dominant traits of African heritage is the way hair behaves--very bristly and stand-outy (I don't know the right word). To get it to flow like Lucy's does, one needs a good deal of product every morning. Or so a friend told me once.

QUESTION 3. In the current story, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have become aware of a mysterious alchemist causing trouble. Who exactly is this mysterious alchemist? Why is this alchemist helping Governor Carew? Exactly what do you think this project is that the board of governors is looking to fund by using the alchemist’s talents? Do you think Mr. Hyde’s previous actions will put the board on extra alert for their investigations? How might this affect Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll’s success in stopping Carew’s villainy, if so? Alternatively, how might the various things the alchemist is able to do (like create gold) change the characters’ views on how the world works? All in all, how do you feel this arc of cases will wind up be solved (or go unsolved)?

I do know that one of the standard "tests" of somebody's background back in the bad old days was to look at their hair, precisely because this trait is so dominant.

Well, creating gold is always a bad idea when the economy is based on gold. Every mage's guild I've ever seen in any universe has a big fat rule against it

In Lucy's case, it's her skin, eyes and lips. Plus, her body type as she got older. Don't forget, coloured people go far beyond the hair and skin.

But back to the subject, it was explicitly stated that making your own gold is 100% illegal.

So they have to be either utterly stupid or they don't care about devaluing the currency. Not something for men of means (and thus knowledge of at least some finance and economics) to take lightly

Given that we're talking chemistry, though, the other classic thing that comes up aside from gold is some sort of immortality potion. I don't recall any hints to that effect, though.

i imagine the alchemist is helping governor carew because he's deeply involved w the plan somehow. it'd be weird if he were just a hired alchemist, because, what're they gonna pay him in? gold?? couldn't he just make the gold himself

Perhaps the deal is that they'll put him beyond the law

So he can actually get away with it

No point to crime if you can't enjoy the result

i kind of think the previous arc has made it more difficult though. cause if i was on the board, i would def be on high alert. all it takes is one guy saying "hey i saw hyde snooping around stopping our gold operation"

Everything probably points back to Carew. That guy is shady as anything. (Incidentally, good job emphasizing his character with that statue debacle near the start. Not a nice man.)

I don't think we've seen any bent cops to this point, which means that the Governors either need enough evidence to fool honest cops (not so easy to fake), or to keep mum

To explain, alchemy has some spirituality and magical properties behind it. Basically, it was the stepping stone to chemistry. People discovered that magic did have a science behind it and upon further research, people discovered that magic had a direct link to nature.

With that, human beings who have no magic invented a way to "use magic" without having any themselves. Alchemy. They would use ways of manipulating nature in supernatural ways and through that, they discovered how to make chemicals and made other marvels through science.

It's also why he's compassionate. He was lucky because his parents were very wealthy so their money protected them. Plus, he passes off as a human mostly, but his eyes, teeth and height give him away.

Well, it's for MK to say for sure, but one of the definitions of separate species is the inability to interbreed. There are exceptions, but that's the general rule. It would be interesting to see Hyde and Lucy have little ones, though. In due course.

Here's how it works. It's generally a taboo socially, but if you're very rich, you can get away with a lot. You just won't be respected for it.

Given the growing relationship between Mr. Hyde and Lucy, will Mr. Hyde be compelled to tell her at some point? What about Dr. Jekyll with his niece and nephew? Do you think the two’s shared arrangement with the body will work long term, or will they at some point need to make alterations to their living situation? In the end, doing this was his undoing.

Sure he didn't have Jekyll's money to do stuff, but it didn't make being a skunk ok especially because Jekyll really did see him as a friend and would have hlped him.

Current favorites

So, nobody asked for this... I just think it’s kind of fun to stop and think sometimes about what my favorites are. This list is for primarily anime/cartoons and similar media. After the title, I list if there are pairings or not - to be clear, that’s not based on if people ship anyone in the series. It’s just based on the story itself and if it has pairings directly included in the main storyline.

In the gifs below, I tried to highlight funny/cute parts + badass parts of each.

Favorites:

NO PARTICULAR ORDER (except One Piece which is rightfully at #1)

One Piece *on this one, I do prefer the manga to the anime. Also, couldn’t decide on a gif so I did a few ohoho that’s what you get for my fav! :D No pairings - sort of a background m/f love interest, sort of. But also there are basically a bunch of trans and gay characters in the background. As for reason: I mean. It’s One Piece. I fucking adore One Piece. But for the 5 people in the world who haven’t heard of it, or maybe skipped over every time I mentioned it - one reason I love it so much is it’s super great storytelling. It’s SO good at bringing plots together even across literal years and decades. Also, the characters are really good, and it spans the emotions really well - from humorous, to sad; from super dark and fucked up, to light and dorky. I love range like that, and I love complicated plots, and I love interesting characters that actually have development over time. Therefore, One Piece is A+ #1 fave.

Avatar: The Last Airbender M/F love interest. I was soooooooo late to the party on this one, but I LOVE IT SO MUCH JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! It’s incredible! Aang is one of my favorite MC’s, period, across all genres and media. You never get to see characters like him... and rarely have I seen anyone since. He’s a wonderful combination of pure cinnamon roll sweetheart and someone who is totally willing to stand up for his morality and his beliefs when needed. I love his monk aesthetic, I love that he values all life, I love how strong he is not only in his powers but also in his heart and soul. I just. UGH. I LOVE HIMMMM T___T (Also the other characters are great too! Don’t get me wrong. That absolutely adds to how great ATLA is. It’s funny and endearing, sad and interesting. But if I had to choose one thing that makes me love ATLA so fucking deeply, it’s 100% my boy Aang)

Noragami M/F love interest. Noragami is SOOO GOOODDDDD UGGGGGHHH. Again, like most of the things I love, it has a really wonderful range. It’s very sad in places, heartbreaking even, and in other places it’s so unexpectedly funny. It volleys so effortlessly between those and more emotions that it gets me right in the feels. The anime is absolutely beautiful - very well animated - and the manga is drawn very well. Yato is a favorite of mine in general in anime/manga characters. He tries so hard, and sucks so much so often XD But he doesn’t let him ever stop it. I am currently stopping myself from starting the series all over again just because it’s ridiculous to do that. If you think this is just another anime/manga, give it a chance first. You might love it like I do.

Beyond the Boundary / Kyokai no Kanata M/F love interest. GODDAMN THIS FUCKING SERIES IS SO GOOD ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?? This is a funny one, because legit the reason I watched it was I saw someone on my tumblr feed post some pretty animated gif and I was like, what’s that? Looked up the name. Didn’t look AT ALL what it was about, just popped it on when a friend was over. We both got so obsessed we watched the whole thing in one sitting. Later, we tried showing the first eps to mutual friends - and THEY got so obsessed that we watched the entire thing in one sitting again. It is absolutely not your typical anime where one character has special powers in high school. It’s just. jfc. I can’t really explain it without going into spoilers or details, but this fucking show gives me SUCH GODDAMN FEELS. I loved it so much I immediately bought the entire series the second we finished it. Also, the animation is absolutely beautiful. But it isn’t just that - it’s also the story, and the characters, and the fact that for once in life, an anime I watched bothered to make a m/f love interest that I actually believe in and 100% ship and root for, and that gets me so emotionally invested that I can’t stop watching. It’s a really great series. Try watching the first episode or two, just to see if you get into it. If you do, you will not be disappointed by the rest.

Honorable mentions:

Natsume Yuujinchou / Natsume’s Book of Friends No pairings. So, I love Natsume. This is one that I almost didn’t add just because it’s been so long since I watched it, but because I love Natsume so much I wanted to make sure it stayed on the list. Natsume is such a sweet and sad character, and the stories that are told are so bittersweet. I love this series which manages to be, at once, gentle, heartbreaking, and uplifting. Haikyuu!! No pairings. To be fair, it’s been so long since I watched this that I almost forgot to add it. But I loved the fuck out of this before so it probably will go right back onto the main list when the anime comes back, or when I finally read the manga. I’m still only as far as the anime.... -_-

Bungou Stray Dogs No pairings. So, this was one where I was recommended it and I went into it not sure what to think. But I ended up loving it SO MUCH that I couldn’t stop watching! I obsessively watched the whole thing as fast as I could, and then later went on to buy some things connected to it. It’s a great series. Great characters. I thought the animation was really nice. I got the manga too, but it’s throwing me off how one MC’s speech patterns are like a 180 difference between anime and manga so I’m slower to read the manga. I still really recommend though!

Adventure Time No pairings / M/F love interest. I super didn’t get into Adventure Time the first 2-3 times I tried, but the fourth was the charm. I LOVE Finn omg. It has great characters, fun stories, is both dark and humorous, and just generally I heart it.

One Punch Man No pairings. It’s just so frickin funny XD I absolutely love the MC, but all the characters are pretty great. I appreciate the satire. I read the manga more than watch the anime on this.

Aoharu x Machinegun M/F love interest. This one is more iffy. I like the manga a lot. I liked the anime. I’m a bit undecided on if it should be on the list or not, but since I thought of it, I’m adding it.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood M/F love interest. Another one I almost forgot to add to the list because it’s such a given and I haven’t watched it in literal years. But this series is super good, and although I liked the first FMA anime when it came out because it was fun to watch, there’s no question FMA: Brotherhood is by far the better anime. The animation (especially of the fight scenes) is just so *___* and the story itself is one that I feel will continue to age well. I haven’t reread/rewatched in years and years, but I continue to remember loving it. It’s just... such a good story for things that are massively fucked up, but also super cool.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? & re:Zero

M/F love interest, more or less. For both of these - my friend and I almost didn’t watch them because we thought they would be too full of tropes. They’re very different stories, but they’re both really good. Both of them impressed us. The story of re:Zero is really great, and the characters in Dungeon are great. I recommend them both. Especially if you wouldn’t have otherwise given them a chance. Seriously, dungeon especially surprised me.. I really thought it would be kind of gross because of the title, but that turned out to be an unfounded bias on my part.

I don’t really write very sad stuff often, but I’ve been on an Aaron Tveit kick so hard this week and this is one of my faves from him and it’s sad so I was like yes. I definitely recommend y’all give all his stuff a listen tho. Anyway, here’s a sad Dad Tony story.

He was Superboy. Ever since he was brought into your life, that’s what he was. The hero boy, with so much heart. The boy was like a prince to your father, and you, you were just not there. You were the Invisible Girl if there ever was one. He was as solid steel, and you were like the air, there but not important enough to even think about it.

Peter Parker was perfect. He was all that you weren’t. Something Tony Stark appreciated. He finally had someone under his wing. He finally had a kid that could keep up with him, that was ready for whatever he threw at him. Peter was everything Tony’s child should be. Smart, and charming; and someone good enough to keep the Stark legacy going.

You packed a bag countless times, and every time you put everything back. There was no way you could actually leave. You had nowhere you could go that he wouldn’t find you. That you could get away with going without some bodyguard having to follow you or a trail being left behind. You wished you had powers, ones that could take you away from here. So you could just disappear, it could be like you were never there in the first place. It wasn’t like he knew you were there anyway, but there was no clean get away. No way to fly from this place. You were a caged bird that couldn’t be seen.

Confrontations with your father were worse than him ignoring you.

You had asked F.R.I.D.A.Y. to add the art expo you were headlining into his schedule. You didn’t expect him to show, you tried to not be disappointed when he didn’t.

You went back home that night with only two leftover paintings. It was a good night in your book.

Well it was until you got home. The second the elevator doors opened you were surprised by the music and the team being well into a party. You tried to just move along and go to your room, normally it wasn’t a problem, but was like Peter had a way to make your father remember your existence.

“Hey, Y/N,” Peter called happily, sending a wave your way.

This earned you the attention of the other team members, who also greeted you, as well as your dad’s.

You were content to continue on your way after politely saying hello to the group.

Tony however, decided against that. He headed towards you, causing you to stop. “Where were you?” He asked, his tone low enough for the other’s to not be able to catch the slight annoyance in his voice. “I told you tonight was Peter’s birthday party.”

For a second you remembered F.R.I.D.A.Y. informing you about it, but you hadn’t thought much into it since you were so busy preparing for the expo. You tried to ignore the familiar sting inside as you frowned at him. “Okay,” You responded, turning away from him. You weren’t going to do this here and now. If he wanted to talk about you not being here for Peter’s party, he could talk to you not in front of everyone else. Because you weren’t sure you’d be able to refrain from a fight.

Tony followed as you stormed off down the hall.

You weren’t even to your room yet and he was calling for you to stop. You turned on your heels. “What?” You asked. “Don’t you have more important things to be doing? Like being at your son’s party?”

Tony’s frown deepened at you. “I asked you where you were tonight.”

You glared at him. “I’d ask you the same thing but I already got my answer.”

“Excuse me?” He asked, not believing the attitude you were giving him.

You shook your head at him, dropped your paintings at his feet and continued to your door. “Glad your /son’s/ birthday was more important than the expo I’ve been working on for the past four Goddamn years of college, /dad/.”

Tony kept after you, after casting a glance down at the paintings at his feet. “Maybe had you told me about it,” he snapped.

You had just gotten your door open, but you weren’t fast enough to escape him. You didn’t turn to look at him. You knew you would lose all control if you looked at him. You let out a bitter laugh. “I did, then I made F.R.I.D.A.Y. put it in your calendar, which means when you were planning Peter’s party, you ignored it. It’s fine, I knew you wouldn’t be there, but don’t you dare come at me like I had to be here, when you /didn’t even/ tell me it was a thing. I get it dad, he’s the one you want. He might as well be your son, it’s not like your actual child means anything to you.”

Tony’s eyes went wide. He couldn’t believe what you were saying to him.

He was so stunned he couldn’t stop you from entering your room. He stared at your door, trying to process what you told him.

He finally stepped to your door, not trying to open it, he spoke through. “How could you think that’s true?” he asked. “You mean everything to me, Y/N. You’re my pride and joy. I love you.”

You stood with your back to the door. Tears streamed down your face. The pain he caused you was unbearable. You shook your head before reopening the door, the look on your face was filled with such disgust, Tony couldn’t understand how you were giving him this look. “You don’t love me. I’m a fucking standard score bracket, so long as Superboy does better than me in everything, he’s the one that’s your fucking pride and joy. He’s your perfect plan, I was the accident you got stuck with.”

The look on your father’s face held nothing but unfamiliarity. He always thought he knew you, but in this moment, you weren’t that happy little girl he knew before anymore.

You knew the realization was finally settling in him. “If you actually thought of me as a daughter you’d treat me like one. You’d stop pretending. I’m not what you want me to be, and Peter is, and instead of accepting that you shoved me aside for something better. Well I can’t be the Invisible Girl anymore. I suggest you figure out what you want before I fade away for good.”

You shut the door in his face and locked it. You slid down the door with a sob.

Tony wasn’t sure how long he was stuck there, but he jumped when Peter was suddenly speaking.

“Everything okay, Mr. Stark?” He asked, he was almost to him, holding the painting’s you’d left on the floor.

Tony looked at him, the cause of most of your pain, it was then he really realized exactly what you were talking about. Seeing Peter made him realize what standards he held Peter in. Seeing the paintings in Peter’s hands made him realize what standards he held you to. He was sick to him stomach.

“These are amazing,” Peter said, looking at the paintings.

Tony couldn’t remember the last time he saw any of your art. In fact he had the passing thought that the few pieces of work you had put up places in the tower were no longer there. He looked at the works Peter was holding up.

The first was a 36x48 sized painting of the view out of the back of their house in California, well what used to be. It was beautiful, the soft oranges and reds of the sky and the blue water made him wish to be back in that place. They were such simpler times before any of this.

The second was much smaller, a 16x20 canvas. He knew that as well. You had taken it from a picture. It was of the two of you. Tony was holding you against his shoulder in his arms, one hand on your butt and the other on your back. Most of his face was in your small shoulder. It was such a peaceful sight. He’d been dancing with you and you’d fallen asleep in his arms.

“Mr. Stark?” Peter started, pulling him from his thoughts. He was frowning at him. He couldn’t lie, he’d heard your conversation. He was going to check on the two of you, but he couldn’t help but hear all of it, even being a good distance back.

“Yeah?” He asked, quietly.

“I think it’d be best to let her cool down for a bit…,” He suggested.

Tony gave a curt nod.

Peter gave his shoulder a pat as he walked past him. He didn’t follow him though. He took a few steps further down the hall, before taking a deep breath and knocking on your door.

You jumped slightly at the knock, of course you didn’t answer though. You were done speaking to him, he had nothing he could say to make things better.

“Y/N,” Peter said, quietly. He waited for you to answer but you didn’t. He heard you sniffle and he sighed. “I-I know your against the door, can you please let me in?”

“Go away,” You told him.

“I thought you might want your paintings,” He said, hoping that would get you.

You knew he wasn’t going to go away, so you got up and opened the door. You took them from him and it took everything in you to not snap them in half. Instead you threw them to the floor. You went to close the door on him, but of course he stopped you.

“Please,” Peter said, offering the best comforting look he could.

You rolled your eyes and walked away from the door.

He followed you in.

“What?” You asked, trying to urge him to the point so you could just be alone again. You made yourself busy, throwing some of your paints into their correct bins by your desk.

Peter sighed. He settled on getting right to what he wanted to say, knowing you would just get more upset if he beat around the bush. “Okay, first I’m sorry for kind of eavesdropping. Second, I’m sorry that he can’t just accept who you are. I can’t talk for him, so I’m not going to try to get you to forgive him. It was really shitty of him to do this tonight, and to treat you the way he does all the time. I’m sorry I’m the one that stole your place. I didn’t mean to, I’d give him back in a heartbeat if it meant he’d stop doing this to you. I see the looks on your face, I-I’m sorry I never said anything before now, but you don’t deserve to feel this way. You’re so amazing and-and your art is so good, I wish he could see it like I do. Had I known you had an event tonight I would have gone, instead of this party.”

You finally looked at him, surprised he said all that he had. But you settled on that he just had to be the hero. “Like you actually care about any of this. You’re my problem Peter, if-if you just never came into our lives, at least I’d still be his kid, a big disappointment, but at least it’d be me. Instead he gets everything he wanted and what? I get cast aside? And you think you can just say sorry and that makes this all okay?”

“N-No!” Peter tried to reason. “I-I just…,” He sighed. “I think you’re wonderful and that your dad can’t see it and I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you, okay? That’s my point. Maybe on the science end I’m what your dad needed, just someone he could talk to, but I can be that for you too. I’ve wanted to be friends with you since we met but there’s just never been a good time for me to say that. But I am now, and I want you to talk to me about this. You deserve to have someone listen to you, especially when you feel like no one can see you. I can always see you, Y/N, you’re the one that always stands out to me.”

You couldn’t believe what he was saying. It hurt so much. Here the person you’d be so jealous of for the past few years of your lives was offering to help you. “Why would you want that?”

“Because I like you,” Peter told you. “Please, we don’t have to talk right now or anything, but just promise if you need someone to just make you feel like you’re listened to and that you’re not invisible, you’ll talk to me.”

You weren’t sure why he was doing this, or what made you decide to agree, but you were thinking it might have to do with the emotions his eyes held. You could feel that he wanted to help, and he seemed ready to do anything, and somehow he knew what you needed.

Over time, things managed to get better. Once you were able to talk things in your mind through with someone else, you could gradually figure things out with your dad. It wasn’t easy, and he was so unbelievably sorry.

You might still not be everything your father wished you could be, but you were no longer the Invisible Girl, all thanks to Superboy.

(Whoops, I think I just ended up using this as an excuse to go all rambly, sorry,,,)

The ending of Volleyball. The beautiful sky, the serene calm atmosphere, the quiet talk about realizations, the soft smile Steven gives them, the hand holding, the subtle head-lean from Volley, the piano in the bg, the message and emotions in it all, I was just so taken away the first time I watched it. Made me nearly cry just from how sweet it all was. A lovely episode.

I really loved seeing Rainbow babysitting Onion. Both are such fun characters. Onion's a bit unnerving sometimes, yes, but he's also really funny and likeable, and I always found the relationship he has with Steven kinda sweet, tho maybe that's just the aunt in me talking... But yea, the fact that Onion hasn't aged a bit both intimidates, but mostly entertains me, and he's consistently been great in my book!

Also, the humor overall was great. Not different from main SU, but I feel like it had a certain season 1 charm that the later seasons were often lacking in, so that was great to see ^^

Also, to get general things out the way, I loved how often/consistently Steven was drawn with stress lines under his eyes this season? It's a very minor thing, but I appreciate it - to sort of show that, even tho he sometimes may appear happy or fine, he's still tired and struggling, and that's okay. How, overall, Steven was just allowed to show his exhaustion and frustration more. Felt freeing in a way.

Snow day was such a wholesome episode. A bit of angst, highlights of character development, and a lot of fun and fluff - a very adorable and neat package, was my fave ep before the second half aired :>

I also adore Bismuth Casual! They all just be vibing, well, besides Steeb, but he eventually vibes, too, and I just love seeing our main 4 interacting with humans, all in different ways that speak so well to where they are in life rn. This a great one for me lads! (I particularly enjoy the detail of how none of the humans look weirded out by their antics. SU has always been consistent with this, but ig I just realised how truly prevalent it is in the show while I was watching this ep, so that's my association with it now, and I just really appreciate it due to the accepting parralels it draws towards neurodivergent peeps)

"I'd rather be me (with you)" was amazing. And not because it has such a sweet n pretty vibe (tho that, too), I just mostly adore the way it so subtly showcases Steven's mental state - very in love, but so utterly insecure, hiding that fact behind smiles and sweet gestures and promises. I find it troubling that people hear this song and want to sing it to their loves cause of the sad implications, but it truly is a brilliant song and I just find it very neat <3

The entirety of Growing Pains, hands down. It truly tackled the matter in such a good and careful way, I really appreciate it,, (A part of me kind of wishes Priyanka would have just gone off and told Steven's fam everything and they all could have talked it out, but I know that's not really as good story material and I wouldn't wanna miss a lot of the moments later on)

Mr. Universe!!! Such a neat and, honestly, kind of very... nostalgic ep?? I dunno how to describe it, but I guess just seeing an entirely Greg and Steven ep brought something out of me. It's such an interesting study on the both of them, and their relationship is just very comforting, and tho I know this was anything but by the end, I think. Seeing these struggles, these mistakes, just makes their relationship feel more real? So I really loved it, and am thankful it happened,,

The White Diamond scene. That scene... gosh, I think it might be one of fave scenes overall, it just presents so many layers and ways to interpret it and, as, addmittedly, a sucker for angst, and also great voice acting, and trippy visuals and metaphors, it's just- wonderful.

And, oh, if we're leaning into heavy territory now, I kind of... appreciate the almost. Suicidal ideation vibe we got more of from Steven in SUF,,? The "why are you still here", the Stevonnie thing, the on-the-ledge visual, plus the self-harm bits... Like, that might sound horrible, but as someone who had gone through stuff... idk. It just feels sort of validating. It breaks my heart, but it's also validating, and... idk, I just appreciate it, and how it wasn't really in your face about it, but still... there.

Also, the scene where Steven sees himself in the TV in Everything's Fine.... goodness. The voice acting from Zach was incredible. The shaking in his voice, the panicked breaths... the visuals, too, him drawing his eyelids down to look at the diamonds, and also, especially the way he says "I'm Steven Universe...!", drawing parralels to the first episode, where he used to sound so confident, but now, he's... I don't even know how to describe the way he says it, but. It's wistful? It's fake? It's unnerving? It's just. Masterful, I adore the work Zach has done for SUF so much.

Also, just the entirety of the monologue at the end of that ep, too. God, I swear it sometimes just, pops into my head, word for word, with Zach's memorable and brilliant acting and all, and breaks my heart all out of nowhere again. Pulling off a character just standing in the middle of a room, just talking about their emotions, to a bunch of people, I feel like that takes talent, and boy did that scene have a lot of it. Not just the acting, but the wording, the very specific expressions, the closeups to the characters, the eerie music behind it all, it's an amazing scene that hits me hard every time and I feel like i'll never be able to erase it from my mind.

The ending of I am my Monster... I've already rambled about it, so I won't spend much words on that here, but... Seeing Steven just break down and sob, his family by his side, the bright sky all around him, so vulnerable and open, and yet so relieved,,? It's just... perfect. It's such a solemn and hopeful and sad and happy scene all at once, and I wouldn't change a thing about it (besides adding Centi :">)

And finally, The Future. I know some people find it anticlimactic, but I truly really loved it. I loved all the little things it showcased, the subtle ways Steven is recovering, how the characters have changed, how they've stayed the same, setting a vague frame of reference for the future but also leaving it very open-ended, the gifts Steven had given everyone that also felt like Steven and the crew giving us, the viewers, goodbyes and thanks, and it's just.... such a small and nice and adorable episode to end on. A really lovely one. I really adored it <3 (Also, I can't not mention the little cries Steven makes when the gems aren't noticing his efforts, my heart hurts but it's also so adorable and I just... love him a lot,,,)

anime review: boku no hero academia

not gunna lie.. i shit talked the Hell out of my hero. like sooo much shit. i claimed it wasn’t worth the hype that it was lame, bad plot, etc. all b4 actually watching it like a dumbass. oh , how Wrong i was. my hero for anyone new or old to anime is well known and is very big especially for the incredible character design. my hero gets alot of hype and i do thinks its for a reason. shonen anime is probably the most popular and is where the most popular  franchises are born aka naruto, one piece, and dbz. and my hero is at the front running for being this generations leader in shonen. although this is not an anime that i cant find faults in , i can find quite a few but this is one of my favorite animes and is definitely worth the watch, now lets get into it.

this shonen like many is about the underdog who can! when 80% of the population has some sort of super human ability known as a quirk izuku midoriya is in minority 20% of people in superhuman society that do not have a quirk. and with the birth of the superhuman powers came the rise of a new profession, heroism. in which people with quirks get licenses to use them to save people. it’s sorta like how kids now wanna be youtubers well thats what being a hero is in this anime. of course midoriya wants to be a hero just like his idol All Might the #1 hero and pillar of peace.

in order to do that he must get into the top hero school in Japan, U.A Academy. with an acceptance rate of less then 2% (or 0.2% i genuinely cannot remember lol) . midoriya is the classic meek bullied kid being pushed around by childhood friends kaksuki bakugou who is loud, angry, and LOUD, and also wants to be a hero. his quirk is explosions that he creates from his palms with his nitroglycerin like sweat.

one day midoriya gets to meet his idol and the series kicks off. midoriyas journey in getting into U.A, viallian attacks, sports festivals., interships, training camps and more!

now midoriya as a main character grew on me. truth me told the first 5 episodes of my hero are Painful to get through, they made me cringe and midoriya cries about 5 times in one 20 minute episode which is exhausting. personally my favorite type of shonen anime protagonist are himbos , aka dumb sunshines. midoriya is not this he’s actually incrediblely smart but he’s so meek it’s annoying and for a while I thought he was the worst choice for protagonist especially with how amazing the side characters are, but he grows on you and it makes sense why he is the way he is and his character development is good. he grows much more confident and sure of himself. he has that naruto talk-no-jutsu vibe about him lol. but overall he’s good, not my favorite character by anymeans in fact i doubt he’d be in my top 5 in this series.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART ABOUT MY HERO; SIDE CHARACTERS (now i am only a mortal so i will only be talking about characters that stand out and add something to the show aka invisible girl is not mentioned neither is tail boy)

bakugou!!!! listen, he is a piece of work. and honestly it took me till season 2 to actually like and enjoy his character. he’s defently different from the normal angry anime boy because he has Zero reason to be angry which sorta adds to the comedy of the show. hes weathly, has two good parents, hes liked and popular despite being somewhat nasty, and he has a cool ass quirk along with being a prodigy at basically everything. his inferiority complex is what he battles the entire show I do feel like his character development was a little too slow, they could moved it along a little bit and not held onto how angry he was for absolutely no reason but again it kind of adds to the charm his character. his design is so beautiful the blonde hair the red eyes he’s great and hes my second fave character. his anger is toward mostly midoriya toward most people hes just loud but he really has a problem with midoriya. a problem he lowkey made up in his head but overall bakugou is a strong character and a different type of hero, he’s the opposite of all might in everyway.

TODOROKI!!!!!! if you dont know who todoroki is and you somewhat watch anime or see anime content on your social media, you are lying. his character design is super well known and is honestly beautiful he’s literally breath taking. speaking of character design let’s leave the Zuko versus Todoroki discord somewhere else I just don’t care let’s leave it alone they both have scars and daddy issues big whoop! they would literally be bffs move on. now that thats out of the way, todoroki is phenomenal, he’s the more silent type but not tsundere at all. we dont see alot of him in season 1 but mainly in season 2, he’s the son of the #2 hero endeavor who despite being a hero is human garbage! his quirk is half cold half hot. essentially he has two quirks one creating ice from the right side of his body and create flames from his left (the coolest and most versatile quirk in the series) his hatred towards his father makes him unwilling to use his fire side. but he gets over it! todoroki i feel definitely got snubbed , i feel like the dimmed him down because of how easily he could overshadow midoriya and honestly my hero could have easily been about todoroki and his journey discovering what kind of hero he wants to be thats how good he is. I cried 4 times during his battle with midoriya. i love todoroki and he is my fave character of the series.

Kirishima!!!!!! his quirk his hardening, he makes his whole body rock hard. i adore kirishima hes is so wonderful as a side character. we really see him shine in s4 during his work study and i love that especially since he was often pushed to the side. he’s also the first person bakugou acknowledes as an equal and friend. his backstory and motivation is really touching and his character design is so fun !! i love sharp teeth boi’s!!!!! and also i dont know they made him so obsessed with being chivalrous and manly but not a misogynist that is like so hard to do and they did it so well. and the fact that his motivation to keep going is a woman and someone who he respects was also so cool. also his hero custome is so cool. he said full chest out !!

mineta, now this is a character that literally everyone hates and granted he’s not my favorite character not even close but I don’t think he’s that bad. He’s the classic pervert classic girl obsessed character. His quirk is literally detaching sticky balls from his head he’s gross but I don’t mind him like all he does is talk like they have an anime character is a straight up harass women which he does sometimes but I don’t know I just don’t get why hes so hated when there are tons of similar character types like him that are worse that don’t get that much hate like I’m not defending him he’s gross but it’s not terrible and he provides comedic relief which is not always funny but it’s there

kaminari! cute shock boy! hes a more digestible and attractive version of mineta, slightly girl crazy but hes fun! hes also friends with bakugou and his quirk electricity but if he over uses it he gives himself brain damage and turns dumb. again hes more often then not pushed aside but hes funny and his personality is awesome and bright.

Iida, someone im kinda lukewarm about? he’s definitely a major side character and gets his own huge moments and out of all the side characters gets alot of screen time. his quirk is engine legs that make him super fast. hes a stick up his ass class rep but he’s nice and way more likeable after the first few episodes

ochaco.....um. shes ok ig, her quirk is making these float. has a crush on midoriya which is fine even though she looks his she could be his cousin dndjd. idk i dont love her type of preppy i wanna be like my crush character type, hinata does it better. but shes ok again lukewarm about her, i definitely like some of the other female characters better but shes not awful. again most shonen animes use female characters as prop to further the male protagonist character along. idk i jus dont like her personality.

froppy!!!! tsu!!! i adore you ! would d word for you!!! i love her so much shes such a cool character and she doesn’t fit into a box in terms of character type. her quirk is frog meaning she can do everything a frog can do. she’s so level headed and smart and witty she really adds something everytime she comes on. she’s just so chill i really appreciate that.

jiro!!! wonderfully talented queen! her quirk is earphone jack! shes just so again chilled and laid back but also super smart and perceptive. sorta tomboyish which is really cool 2 see a different look for a female character.

yayorozu!!!!! my favorite female characters of the show. her quirk is creation, she makes anything she wants as long as she knows the structure. its dope af. shes so smart and responsible and has an awesome sense of self improvement. i do believe in eating the rich but i still love her. shes a natural leader which i love to see and i think she should have been class rep but as always, men have to be in postions of power ...

tetsutetsu!!!!! the only person in class b with rights. hes kind of like kirishimas counter part, he also has a hardening quirk which makes his body into steele. hes jus so Funny and loud and i wish he was in class 1 a he’d be so good. he brings alot of energy and his fight with kirishima was so fun to watch.

miro, again. someone i shit talked b4 seeing what they were about. i honestly thought miro was going to have some evil agenda against my midoriya but he didn’t he was so good so bright his quirk is so cool it’s permeation meaning he can like walk through walls and stuff he’s so cool!!

tamaki!!!!!!!!! I ADORE HIM! SO MUCH!! hes so shy and insecure but wtf so badass with an amazing quirk called manifest meaning he can manifest on his body the different types of food he eats like he eats octopus he gets tentacle arms which means he basically has like an unlimited number of quirks??!! so dope and his character design is so sexy hes my bf

shinso, now his design is very good he reminds me alot of aizawa, and his quirk is insane and i dont know how people like invisible girl, tail guy, fucking mineta got into the hero course but someone like shinso with a brainwashing quirk didn’t, all someone has to do is answer his question and their under his control, literally so useful. he’s a really hyped up character which I find interesting because in the anime manga people don’t come for me he isn’t really showcased which is really annoying because he’s cool and I get what the hype is about but I just wish we saw more of him I think there is in the actual manga but in the anime he makes like two appearances??

AIZAWA!!! hes so ,, hot, idc him a bun forget it.. im .. his quirk... SO DOPE I MEAN TO BE ABLE TO ERASE SOMEONE QUIRK,,? dope af, his tsundere with more dere then anything hes so sweet and genuinely loves his class So Much, they are his babies. his character is super genuine and its so fun to see him and someone like all might working along side eachother just because they are such different people. aizawa is definitely my third favorite character

all might!!! the big man himself! honestly all might is what superman wishes he was, he is just so Nice and caring and just wants to help people thats all he wants to do, hes the only person deemed worthy by stain. he plays such a huge role in the series in a way a mentor/idol really never has 4 me. i love his other version as well its so well designed to be such a contrast to his muscle form.

stain, the best villain on the show, most complex and truly thought provoking and just all in all they did such a good job with his character design and his motives the stain arc was my favorite in terms of villains because my hero really kind of lacks in villians and sure the league does get better but stain has the most like convincing argument and morals like the concept that he wants to purge the fake heroes of the society away is just fascinating because society in the series so overpopulated with heros and just ugh such a good villain and his quirk,, crazy being to paralyze people by tasting their blood wild

dabi!!! aka todorokis brother (thats not a spoiler jus a fan theory that i wholeheartedly believe) his quirk is  cremation which he basically has such hot fire that it jus turns everything to ash. aka his character design being him with burns, his body most likely can’t fully handle his quirk. hes so hot ugh literally come on emo boy! but really hes a cool villain and works for the League. I wish we saw more of him which I know in season 4 like toward the end he makes a pretty big appearance but after training camp we don’t see him as much as I wish we did and he’s super famous hyped up character again because his design is so dope. he’d be a good anti hero.

shigaraki!!! he’s actually my fourth favorite character.... you guys ever have that one character that one think most likely thinks is hot, but you do. YES HES CRUSTY BUT STILL SEXY GAMER. if i could just give him a skincare routine...His character is one that got probably the most development I mean we see this bratty childish kind of loser in season one in in season for a re-really see a masterminded plan from him and something truly thought out because I feel like a lot of his plans aren’t thought through and this is one of the first ones that I see truly come to fruition the way he wanted to. I really appreciate that from a villain who can grow because he wasn’t a very convincing villian and he had no motivation to do what he was doing and just seem like a dumb kid but like now after watching him grow he’s really coming into his own and for season five I want to see him continue that growth he’s having.

OK IM SO SORRY THE SIDE CHARACTERS TOOK 80 YEARS THERE ARE SO MANY

now onto my critiques these are MY opinions which literally don’t matter the author/artist is incredible and knows what they’re doing and they don’t have to cater to what I want at all this is just how I thought while watching the anime.

I feel like midoriya is a character that can’t really shine on his. I feel like side characters need to be pushed down and snubbed for him to look cool. and  in general I just feel like because of the personality that he has as a main character he kind of struggles to shine unless they dim the light of the other characters because especially in season four midoriya is just constantly pushed and pushed as this end all be all if feels which OK he’s the main character but like was it realistic for some of the things that happen in season four to happen I don’t wanna spoil but if you watched it you know like who defeated who and so on.  at least to me sometimes it’s really obvious that they’re pushing for you to have that midoriya is so cool reaction which just seems forced.

I mention this in some of the side character villains but my hero really doesn’t have like super compelling villains with proper reasoning to what they’re doing or maybe we just haven’t seen that yet in the anime but for me the only good villain the whole series was stain. sure the league of villains gets better but they’re seen as a joke for most of the series at least to me like I didn’t really take them seriously just them minus all for one. I feel like they have these major villains but only see them once especially with all for one we saw him once and then if you watch the my hero movie he’s like there for 2.2 seconds as a major plot point but him physically as a villain but I see him once in action and even so I still think stain is a better villain and notice how I’m not mentioning overhaul in this conversation. there was just something beyond villainious about overhaul especially the child abuse. and again he’s someone who was spoiler alert defeated and in one shot kind of way it only took half the season and if you compare him and his organization to the league their miles ahead of the  League so why did they get defeated first it just kind of didn’t make sense to me.

I was sort of annoyed when the big three got introduced for my side character analysis I praised two out of the three of them and I love the third member she is incredible and a bad ass I just couldn’t write any more about side characters or else this will never end but did we need the introduction of more students when there are so many in class 1a themselves that just don’t get the light of day especially in season four with Todoroki and Bakugou being absent for most of it.

endeavor doesn’t deserve redemption arc that’s what they’re setting up for now i don’t want it he’s gross he’s a domestic abuser he’s a child beater he’s a child neglecter. he’s gross and I don’t understand how this hasn’t been exposed to the public about how the number one hero beat his wife and kids how we just not know that.

I mentioned this with bakugous character review but I feel like his development was just so agonizingly slow for no reason because it wasn’t this deep-rooted issue it was something he misinterpreted and created this fake narrative in his head about midoriya. and even after they have that big fight and acknowledge each other I feel like there’s still something missing which bothers me because there is no reason one it should’ve taken four seasons when Todoroki‘s deep-rooted issues were solved in a couple episodes basically.

 I feel like the series attempted to add romance and then gave up which I think was a smart move just because at the moment there isn’t really a place for it and this is coming from someone who adores romance in anime and I thrive off it but in my hero specifically especially the way they were going to do it with Ocacho was just not it and I really hope they don’t reduce her character even more to just pining over the male protagonist because I’ll be sad because even though I’m not crazy for her I still think she’s a solid character who I don’t want to become just a propeller for character development for the sake of the male protagonist.

things i love!!

the animation is beautiful, it’s so unique and different and just feels really fresh. you can clearly see the movements and can we talk about how well they draw hands? got tier anime hands.

the fighting was the Best ive ever seen in terms of timing, most shonen animes can drag on battles for many many episodes especially dbz, it honestly feels tiring and i love the my hero has the Perfect length to i get all the action and never feel bored or over it. I also enjoy that the anime wasn’t super fillery, and when there was it wasn’t that noticeable that it wasn’t canon.

how everyone is friends really makes me happy especially to see midoriya be so loved and respected by his peers, and everyone views him as an inspiration. to know he was bullied and hated by his class in middle school to in high school having everyone love him enough to make him class rep at first. which I am so glad he stepped down from because it was lowkey cringe that he won djdj.

how rivalry is done is nice because its not a huge major thing, sure everyone is competitive but its friendly and motivating. its not cutthroat.

the dub is really good, ik people shit on dub which is fair. but sometimes the dub hits and there are moments when you wanna watch anime but you have stuff to do so you can’t solely focus on the screen. personally i don’t know why but i had a hard time getting into my hero with sub and had to watch it dub. but if you do like dubbed anime then the my hero dub is solid im sure certain things are said cooler in the sub than dub (aka hqs “dont let me down fellas alright?” jdjdxjxj) but it is a funimation dub which are almost always decent.

the structure of society and the information we get told about heros and the job are soo well done. I feel like I really understand the setting which in fanatasy animes can be somewhat difficult, and everything makes sense and is really normal. they do such a good job making being a hero a normal thing, especially since heroism especially in the western comics is viewed as this big deal that not everyone can do while in my hero its the opposite. i love that.

midoriyas not give up attitude is really endearing, sure most shonen protagonist have this but especially with midoriya being the Biggest underdog to the point where he ruins his body over and over again and still keeps moving. a moments i genuinely loved midoriyas character and fell for him completely was during training camp, when he fight smuscular and still keeps moving despite being Ruined. it’s my favorite right after stains.

i love seeing them train! ik the actual villains are exciting but things like training camp and the creating special moves moment were my favorite.

i love my hero, it’s quickly made its way to my favorite animes of all time, the characters, plot, and motivations are so good. it’s an anime that makes me feel like I can do anything i set my mind to. I enjoy the fact that it’s an anime that like I feel like there can be a discussion and not one over about whether it’s good or bad because it’s definitely good but more in how things are done the reason things were done how things could’ve been done differently there’s a lot to talk about and I feel like this is a very unique thing because I think with a lot of anime everything is so set in stone and if things were done a different way and it wouldn’t work with my hero there are so many ways things would go which I love. and I also love that there are things that I don’t like about it or that I’m not crazy about and for some reason that makes me like it even more because I feel like again back to the discussion point there’s so much to talk about especially on like Reddit where you can see what other people think and if you’re wrong if you’re right it doesn’t really matter because I think today this is just anime! give it a watch if you are curious you wont regret it!

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Albania to Eurovision with ethno beats

Sorry to be late to start all this, but you know, Albanians love doing their show around the Christmas period - whether before or after. xD So after this show, I was rather engulfed in Christmas and stuff, packing the gifs for every family member, putting them under the tree and waking up to see their (belated) reactions to their own gifts. Oh, and a festive dinner on the Eve. (And now it's been less than 1 and a half months since the end of this!)

But enough about that, you guys are here for my honest review, right?

Right.

I, for one, am a true fan of the ridiculous runtime of Festivali i Këngës në Radiotelevizion Shqiptar (and how the full lenght title is pronounced with the broadcaster’s name included every other single time), and that's because it allows me to discuss every single detail that I see, that goes wrong, that's just plain hilarious, and printscreen those said things. Among all these weird sights that can be seen during the interval acts and advertisements there's at least one instance of somebody in the show being such a "mood". Just like the broadcaster's current higher up for all things Eurovision at home (i.e.: commentator, spokesperson and occasional conversator), Andri Xhahu:

“mmhmm sure, keep on telling how much you love all the acts while I pretend I care, but in fact I’d rather just go home and eat something real quick”

Trust me, everyone in this show is a master of not giving a single damn. Artists, backings, instrumentalists, interval acts even maybe? All kinds of people in Albania are just mediocred out by things happening in FiK, thus nothing is remotely surprising!

Well, except for the results this year. Sure, everyone had their little outrage on social media the very time it was revealed that the international public’s darling Mirud did not impress the FiK jurors enough to qualify, but others were simply rejoicing that at least another big fave qualified - and to the fans’ dy shokë, a favourite won once again! And this one is an artsy, mid-tempo call to all of the abroad Albanians to “return to the land”, provided by the one and only, Jonida Maliqi.

And so you thought a big FiK favourite wouldn’t manage to win 2 years in a row... let alone reach Eurovision. It was nearly a given FiK juries could rather have had their traditional FiK-ness when picking the winner and that it would have become Lidia Lufi or even one of those old people, one of them being THE CONDUCTOR OF THE WHOLE SHOW (and if he was not qualifying, he’d probably have been ultra upset and leave his position from FiK’s orchestra that he has now observed every year since idk), so it’s refreshing to see Albania take on some new winds - last year with Eugent Bushpepa, this year with Jonida. Not that she was a big favourite of mine though, but you know, “Mall” was so incredibly difficult to top standart-wise that I actually didn’t really mind letting go of the songs by Dilan Reka, Klinti Çollaku and Alar Band (and 3 more nonqualifiers) emotionally. I mean, with the competition this incredibly improving in competence and easy good winners, it was a given that none of these would have even come close to reach a stellar placing in the final leaderboard of FiK. And yes, I consider my taste incredibly out of fashion with what everyone wants. Thank you for noticing.

When I first heard this, I didn’t really have a great impression on this track - the 1st verse/chorus and the 2nd verse/chorus have an extreeeeemely long gap between each other, which bothered me. Shouldn’t the song have some short enough gateway to pass the point across easier? The second thing is that it’s a little too slow. Not long after she won I became acquainted with the song’s Nightcore versions (yep! 2 of them exist apparently), and going back to he studio version of this, the slowness of it put me off. But on later listens I managed to appreciate its better qualities - the song is intense, tackles a decent topic (which will probably be underlooked if the staging does not account for it clearly enough - looking at you France 2018), the folksy interlude is too precious to be gotten rid off for the upcoming revamp (I just think it needed to be placed elsewhere... until I realized it is in an alright position songwise), the backing vocals at the last few seconds add some charm to the song, and at least there are some vocalisations! Juries obviously love it when an act tests their high vocal abilities, and often great notes don’t go too unnoticed by them. Remember why was Eugent’s performance so loved by the juries - if he haven’t done THAT, nothing would have given him a final ticket in the first place.

So that means that the first time viewers at home have a hefty fine chance to also not get what’s happening, right? Unless the music gets drastically devamped (like in 2016) and the performance is too heavy to connect with this song, it is probably going to do alright. The 2nd night performances this FiK were all devoted to the idea of preparing the acts for Eurovision in an unavoidable case of one of them winning. And Jonida’s performance uses rather cartoonish (but decent cartoonish) city-at-night shots in the background (with street lamps, traffic lights, maybe a bridge and the rest) and several random dancers too, which you can see for yourselves below:

(I’d like to inform her though that constantly interchanging street motives on the background aren’t a very good addition - Latvia 2009 went with all-round street and city signs and that didn’t work, and the 2009 stage was HUGE! Also maybe the dress is a little too extravagant for the topic of the song but that’s a nitpick. Sorry about it)

And even though it’s just 1 song (and the reason the top 1s keep poping up right after FiK is over - a common practice even among very small Eurovision fan Youtube channels) (edit: now we have 4 songs at the point of me finishing this but still), I do believe that already writing it off is harsh. Obviously the Albanian revamp curse is going to take place, but sometimes it comes to a complete advantage if the artist knows what he or she is doing and how to turn everything to their strenght rather than weakness. Eugent just happened to do more impressive vocal heights than Lindita. And Eugent didn’t even need to wear something too extra unlike Lindita, which for some reason was having to deal with a bridal attire..? not a really suitable wear for a song about world problems, yanno what I mean?? So it’s for the better if Jonida’s team doesn’t have to harm the song all too much, choose a connecting staging, do something piercing about it, don’t make Jonida look like a clown on stage, and generally don’t let her come across as too weird and cold-hearted. She should be seen pouring her heart out and let the world know that she’s talking to the Albanians (and hopefully even Kosovars) ‘round the world - to all the Ritas, to all the Duas, to all the Bebes.

Approval factor: I didn’t say I hate it so I approve it wholeheartedly! Yes I like.

Follow-up factor: in my sole opinion I would still find “Mall” way better but this current entry is good enough also, so it’s obviously a fair enough follow-up after the previous and the rest past entries for Albania.

Qualification factor: somewhere in the middle of things right now, if only Jonida’s capable of making everythhing against her work in her favour and shock the naysayers like Eugent did post-revamp that looked like it killed his chances

So did we have Fest 57 through and it always delivered a fiesta of too many ads and too many intervals. Like you could have sworn that this show should have ended 5 years earlier than initially planned. Yet you wake up and find it still going, but more in the post-show form, with the jury still continuing to blabber about what exactly do they like in a contestant’s song for some reason. And then, when you least expect anything to happen - they mention “lista finale”! Ahh what a miracle.

Anyway, in this segment I’m here to highlight some special things that have happened:

• The puppetmaster from Night 2. No one knew what was that for, no one knew why was it needed, no one knew if it was even a little bit funny. But this Francesca Michielin’s auntie delivered a bunch of stuffed ‘humans’ to show around in front of the camera and stage something out of them. And the world was s h o o k

• Sound problems. One contestants had quiet mics at the beginning of the song (and this is FiK, which means that the poor acts WILL get a definite repeat of their entry, even if they had said their word against it. Sorry Miss Põldvere...), and another act got away with the entirety of it being completely not tuned in correctly soundwise, thus sounding completely all reverb-y and at one point even the mic feed for the backings was louder than the vocals of the artist. Hilariously enough, the both reprised acts won an award!

• Speaking of which, everyone thought that the first award of the night was actually the winner announcement. Even me. Oh how much we were falsely alarmed on this particular thing... xD

• Obviously the results. I honestly don’t think that Mirud’s nonqualification is such a mystery, despite the fact that as of lately the FiK juries are down for uplifting the audience faves. But I saw something that could have turned his song into something unbearably weak and nondescript, despite his pain and heart streamed out in bold colors through the song, considering this is the country that revamps their entries a lot. It could have been, and I’m dreading to say this but I am gonna say it anyway, a meaningless R’n’B ballad trying to show something, but projecting it too weakly. Of course I liked it, but I wouldn’t have pointed at it saying; “that right there, it’s definitely a contender”. But I definitely felt sorry for him and his song. Look what I messaged him:

• Dilan Reka’s quality stepdown. Look, I didn’t even listen to “Mos harro” as of yet, but I can definitely feel that “Karma” is some sort of a sub-par standart entry everyone gave hard time for because it wasn’t as likeable as “Mos harro”, which could have been the beginner of the good Albanian streak I suppose had it won the NF over Lindita? Or at least that’s what the fans think. Anyways, I liked “Karma” and I don’t ever want to stop defending its fun factor. The only thing not worth defending in this is Dilan’s styling:

No but WHO TOLD HIM YELLOW SUNGLASSES AND THIS SUIT WERE A GOOD IDEA???? leave.

• The girl who sang "Hallelujah" during a results break (there were several of these, can you believe that?). That was presumably Ana Kondra (you know, the one that advised to not touch her tree two years back? In JESC?) presumably singing in a personally warped take on English language, if not the actual English.

• Somewhere in the world there was hype-a-comin’ for these two: the cheap beats queen Soni Malaj and the retro hipster queen Orgesa Zaimi. While I can’t say I disliked their songs legit, it beats me as to what is attracting people to support the latter a lot, considering Orgesa submitted a bit of a huge stepdown from the cheerful “Ngrije zërin“. She at least retained her hipster attire though, even if without those French sunglasses. Oh and as for Soni, I gotta commend the Eurofan audience for still giving in some cheap Balkan pop trash! Though for country like Albania, it was never gonna win anyways. And I wasn’t hyped either. Seriously, who thought that adding some extra confused guys spout “bum bum bum” at the beginning was remotely GOOD??

Think I noted all momentswise. May I add that I’m glad to hear Jonida was allowed to sing in Albanian by RTSH (who apparently DECIDE what kind of language is more fitting for their own entry once it’s decided it’s ready for Eurovision???? I feel you, Elhaida’s composer from FiK 2014, if I had to face these rules, I’d have quit too)? It definitely takes this song up for advantage, and who cares if no one can understand it - we still have had an Albanian song about personal matters qualify, plus it was performed live on such an unfortunate occasion back at home so the power had to be extremely maxed out for that to work, and it did.

And one last thing: I did only watch the final of this, and the first time I heard this performed live, I was lowkey convinced this would indeed win because the orchestra made it sound like a stereotypical FiK winner - dramatic female ballad/midtempo/whatever having this dramatic power in chorus with all of the instruments blown right onto it. Not even the rest of the top 3 and other ballads this year were this much instrumentally packed. So there goes.

One of my faves was actually to start Chapter 3, when we looked at the "villains" and the main guy was talking about how he didn't want them dead, more turned to his side. I liked the humanizing aspect of the antagonists.

As far as comedy goes, I liked the brief scene where Adelaide "winked"... maybe... because she could have been blinking and her hair was in the way.

Though I also liked the "cold feet" bit where Nefayn was laughing and Nassar didn't know. In particular it was sort of called back later when he was thrilled that she liked his jokes.

QUESTION 2. Unfortunately for Nefayn, she is cursed twice over both in body and magic. Who do you think cursed her with the first seal and for what reason? Could the culprit be Ezo considering she and Pella seemed to know Nefayn? Why was said culprit pursuing her? In other words, what are their long-term goals in using her? How powerful do you think Nefayn was before the first seal came to be? Now that Nefayn is sealed twice over to be all but human, how will this affect her helpfulness in a battle? Do you believe that Nefayn will be able to undo the seals eventually and return herself to her original form and power? If so, how might this affect her growing relationship with Adelaide?

im torn on the culprit issue. on the one hand ezo seems likely cause from her characterization that seems like something shed do. but on the other hand their army is kind of near the end of their campaign since pike's reach is the last one standing and they dont want to murder hobo them. so idk why theyd need nefayn. i kind of like to think theres something bigger gonna show up and pella and adelaide are gonna join forces to defeat it. and that whatever the it is is what's after nefayn. but that could be wishful thinking cause i always cheer for antagonist protagonist team ups when both are basically good dudes with different goals

Yeah, I don't know that it's Ezo. There was also that scene where Nefayn said she thought the big Pike's room seemed familiar, so I feel like she was a citizen of the place somehow.

A teamup would be pretty cool between the two groups. Maybe the West has been getting more organized than they realize, there was some mention of the latest attack being more of a ruse.

Part of me actually ships Ezo and Nefayn, in that sort of 'mortal enemies become friends' kind of deal. So I guess Adelaide ends up with the General's second in command? This was probably heresy to propose.

Here's a possibly related question, who keeps sending the evil things to attack Adelaide? Which makes her sleep with a sword? I don't think it's the general, he seems honourable enough to keep his distance after losing, at least for a while. Maybe it's the same person who did the thing to Nefayn.

QUESTION 3. Magic seems to be at the center of several other mysteries that are presented in the comic. What is Pike’s Reach’s past with magic regarding the mention of a catastrophe involving it? Is Pella onto something about everyone being Adelaide’s age? What might this have to do with the previous lord of Pike’s Reach and Adelaide becoming its lord? How might any of this relate to the fact that Nefayn appears to recall being at Pike’s Reach for a brief moment? There is also the issue of Pella’s missing uncle. What do you think happened to his uncle? How might Pella’s uncle be related to past or present events that occurred in Pike’s Reach? Lastly, will Pella ever discover the truth about his uncle?(edited)

idk. hard to say without an exact timeline. also without exact knowledge of their system of governance. like for example, education could just be an at home by parents thing. so no actual public institution for it. but i also dont know the cut off date. and maybe no all the old ppl are dead. more its just heavily skewed to one age group

Do you believe Pella is genuine about his desire to unite the east to make the country a better place? Why do you think Pike’s Reach is so ardent about not uniting with the rest of the eastern lands? As time drags on, do you think Pella will give into his advisors and stop going so soft on Pike’s Reach? Will Ezo being injured drive them to it potentially? Alternatively, do you think Pike’s Reach and the Eastern hordes might join forces and put their differences aside for some reason? All in all, who do you think will emerge victorious?

Ezo's injury could do that (escalate things), since Pella seems to have that thing for her. Honestly, I don't quite see why he's so keen on the uniting to this extent... is it all ego? I mean, why not just be glad you've got 95% of the continent?

It might be interesting if they join forces though.

i do think ezo's injury is gonna make pella made. at least enough to challenge adelaide to another duel. but then he might also be mad at ezo and be like wtf ezo we were retreating

but all in all i think pella is genuine and really does want to make the country a better place.

i actually dont know why pike's reach wouldnt want to unite with them to be honest. XD cause trade would be a nightmare at this point cause youd always have to try to skirt and sneak through the eastern horde lands. if the eastern hordes go to war with someone, land troops would be moved through pike's reach anyway. and to me it just seems pike's reach is more holding out for pride

but i guess tbf we dont know much about pella's country. maybe they eat babies and pike's reach has a strict no baby eating policy

That's a fair point. Maybe there's something to the whole magic catastrophe, like they used to be a united continent and it went badly for them.
