#it’s been forever

i’ve recently been made aware that some people start sneezing when it’s cold & i can’t get that thought out of my head so please enjoy this late night scenario i’ve been thinking about all day

girlfriends on a winter walk, maybe in the downtown of a city going shopping, & it’s snowing outside. one of them always sneezes when she’s cold, it’s a tell tale sign. her girlfriend always has a pack of tissues in her coat or purse for this reason. as they’re walking, the sneezy girlfriend starts sneezing, & at some point her girlfriend pulls them into a coffee shop despite them having eaten a bit early. when the sneezy girlfriend asks why, her girlfriend explains that she must be cold because she’s sneezing so much. they order warm drinks & go to a quiet area so the sneezy girlfriend can sneeze without worrying anyone or making others think she’s sick

when they get home sneezy girlfriend is ushered to the bedroom & convinced to change into sweats by her girlfriend. they crawl into bed & her girlfriend grabs the box of tissues she keeps on her nightstand so that sneezy girlfriend can sneeze all she needs & will be able to wipe & blow her nose

Hello! Long time no see. Thank you for all the tags in my absence. True blue adulthood has been kicking me in the proverbial balls. (Being overworked and underpaid and forced to engage in power struggles with other people’s children leaves very little time for creativity.) EDIT: okay I just got back from my second job and this one student made me laugh my ass off so I like kids again. Also, I forgot my headphones so I’m writing this to you from a very dismal bus ride since one of the only things keeping me sane is listening to the Anne of Green Gables audiobooks on my commutes. (You really gotta romanticize the mundane if you’re gonna survive in this world.)

And because of the Anne Shirley of it all, inspiration is striking every once in awhile. I’m writing, I suppose. Progress is incremental and I’m sorry there’s been such a lapse between IKABIKAM chapters. This one is very intense and I’m plagued by self-doubt and lack of motivation.

Allow me to indulge in a meaty WIPsday. I bring to you two excerpts relating to two songs that are heavily inspiring me for this chapter. One excerpt is Baz. One excerpt is Simon. But do not be fooled, the songs are for both of them at different times. The common theme? ANGER.

The road turns from asphalt to cobblestone as we pass definitively back in time. The moat. The ramparts. The inner gate. It doesn’t evade me that Snow avoids looking at one thing for too long.

Memories flood my vision, haunting the Great Lawn with dozens of mirages. I breathe them in—all the feelings, all the Sunday afternoons, all the petty fights and words I wish I’d never said. They pass by, but refuse to land in the past. Not while we’re still moving through it.

I stare at a portrait of a young Davy Cadwallader. Seventeen. Full of fire. No blood on his hands yet. The glossy picture frame glares my reflection back at me. My thin frown is shrouded in shadows of my father—a pair of sad, angry eyes split between us. I think about how punchable his face is and then how half of it’s my own.

It’s a marvel that Baz is the one with a permanently broken nose.

Villain hated losing.

Hated it.

But at least they know they tried everything… it’s just… even they couldn’t win this one.

“Stop fighting me, Villain.”

“Hhmmmgh,” the criminal retorted, face slammed into the asphalt.

It hurt; injury after injury layered their broken frame. God, it was terrible, but they knew it was only going to get worse. So much worse.

As chilled metal clamped around their bound wrists, anxiety got the best of them; chest rising and falling in short, choked pants.

This was never supposed to happen. Hero was supposed to be gone, long gone… why…?

“You know, I never thought it would be this easy,” Hero mused, huffing out a broken chuckle. They had been after Villain for years - and here they were, all it took was a short scuffle.

Only once Hero triple checked the cuffs did they tentatively reach a hand to their busted lip, fighting a wince. Villain got them good. They’d pay for it, the fucking—

A tremor ran through the body pinned beneath them. Oh… that was… new. Hero’s grimace widened into a wicked grin.

“Are you… shaking?”

Another uncontrollable shudder racked their small frame, and Villain forced their traitorous hands to curl into fists. Damnit, damnit, no.

“Look at you, Villain. You’re -ha! - you are shaking.”

Villain’s stomach flipped at the bite in Hero’s words. Though they knew it was pointless, Villain’s breath was turning jagged, on the edge of a breakdown.

This was never supposed to happen.

It was taking all of their willpower to maintain composure; to pretend like their signature, stoic persona wasn’t in shambles.

“Fuck you.” They snarled, voice sharp as a blade. But all Hero did was laugh, a gloating, vicious sound that sunk its claws into Villain’s frantically beating heart.

“Y’know, you should really watch that mouth of yours.” With unbridled hatred, Hero slammed Villain’s head against the ground, eliciting a soft, pained gasp.

“No one is coming to save you, darling… and I’m just getting started.”
