Look. I know I am overthinking everything ever. I know. But there’s such a big fucking difference between howdys business and how it intertwines with his character and Eddie’s, because like LOOK BRO
The SMALL ASS TEXT THAT HAS EDDIES NAME???? COMPARED TO THE LARGE EMPHASIS THAT HOWDY HAS FOR HIS BUSINESS AND HIMSLEF???
Like Eddie’s name is so small and insignificant to the post office compared to howdys sign, like Eddie can barely find a place for himself and who he actually is outside of his function as a mailman- where as howdys name is the first thing for his sign! It’s huge! Like it’s a part of who he is, it’s a part of his love for jokes and laughter- compared to Eddie where it seems more of an all consuming way for him to lose himself in what he can function as, and not who he actually is. Which, ya know, kinda explains the whole breakdown before the party for home warming, because taking away his function leaves him with the little part of himself that he always seems too busy to express.
Chat this is devastating I need to be put down

Arcane Season 2 spoilers cuz I watched it last night and can’t get it out of my head:
1st off I’m not even gonna lie this is just about Loris BECAUSE IM SO UPSET!!!!! HE HAD POTENTIAL!! HE WAS HOT!! HE LOOKED LIKE VANDER!! HE SAID FUCK THE FACISM!! WHY DID THEY DO HIM LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought he was going to be brought back by Viktor at the last second but NO!!!! And he didn’t even get an interesting death or anything, just a cheap arrow to the neck. Like I get that all death from war is pointless but from a storytelling perspective it feels so unsatisfying. Like, he was mismanaged and made to seem like a side character with SOME importance, especially when he turned away from the facism+was hanging out with Vi. He should have given her a pep talk at some point but we barely got any lines out of him. I forgot what he sounded like for a longass time. And then he gets killed and his body dumped and it felt like we got invested in him for no reason. I really enjoyed season 2 but the pacing was so horrendous and things felt very clunky and unorganized :/
Anyway I enjoyed the lesbians and jayce going crazy and how his leg got fucked up and I enjoyed vander a lot too but 🥺🥺🥺 my WIFE

Before It All (Pt. 3)
Warnings: Obsessive Alastor
Part 1 + Part 2
---------------------------------
It really was you.
His nameless Doe.
You seemed tense, clearly uneasy by the static he emitted and his presence alone by the looks of your erect ears and puffed fur of your tail.
(How cute, you had your clothes altered for your tail. A shame he hadn’t noticed it back when he had summoned you).
Alastor was now used to fellow demons being unnerved and frightened in his presence and so they should be, but you – there was no reason for you to be so anxious in his company, though he supposed he could understand it somewhat.
The power dynamics were completely turned around.
You had no advantage over him, he wasn’t that weak human anymore.
But still, Alastor didn’t like the fact you were so wary of him, so he needed to lighten the mood, break the tense atmosphere, and there was no better way than reminding you of your encounter with him when he was the weaker one, when you had the power over him, was there?
“How I’ve missed your wonderful ears, my nameless Doe.”
Alastor always did find your ears fascinating.
He may have his own pair of deer ears now and they had their uses – his auditory senses were vastly superior when compared to his human self, so much so, it took a week or two for him to adjust to sensory overload. They also gave any would-be attackers a false sense of security, he was just a deer demon, so he had to be weak.
Ripping those sorts to shreds felt much more satisfying.
But his ears were so damn sensitive to touch that Alastor had no idea how you didn’t just melt into a trembling mess when you allowed him to stroke your ears all those years ago.
He needed to move on from these thoughts before–
You blinked at his odd greeting, your body relaxing slightly from its earlier tensed position that had been poised to flee at any given second.
You blinked again.
And then you let out a loud yelp of surprise, springing forward when you felt icy cold hands playfully tug on your ears from behind.
–before his shadow acted upon them.
You reeled around to see what had touched you, not expecting to see a grin right up in your face and you stumbled back a bit, happy enough that you didn’t embarrass yourself in front of the Radio Demon/Alastor by letting out some sort of pitiful sound like a scream or shriek.
“I do hope you can excuse my shadow’s behaviour. The poor thing can hardly contain itself, seeing it is a reflection of me.” Alastor gestured the shadow away, which it did after giving you a last glance before it vanished. “Well then, should we do now what we should have done twenty-four years ago?”
You’re unsure what he is talking about.
“Introductions, my nameless Doe! Unless you prefer that name over your real one.” Alastor bows in a flashy way. “Alastor Hartfelt! But you already knew that, correct?” He stood up straight and eyed you expectantly.
“It’s nothing special, it’s just Y/N.” You shrug before eyeing Alastor intently and you hope you don’t get killed or worse for your question. “You just seemed like a miserable boy brought up in a miserable situation, so I gave you a pass. I thought if I got rid of your main problem, maybe you could live the rest of your life normally. You didn’t even make it to forty. What happened?”
Alastor hummed. “It would turn out that my father was only a drop in the bucket. After that wretch was gone from our lives, my Mama instilled in me the importance and value of women. Women are not second-class citizens nor are they property, but this way of thinking was uncommon and misogyny was everywhere.”
You think you can guess where this is heading to…
“I killed men, men like my father. Men who see no problem in beating their wife. Degenerates that stalked the alleyways for their next rape victim. For over a decade, I was the ‘Bayou Butcher’. It’s only due to the incompetence of a hunter that I am here now.” The expression on his face was that of delight. “I have no remorse. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.”
Oh.
It’s… it’s not what you wanted for Alastor, but you remembered that sheer hatred in his eyes. Something that deeply rooted wasn’t so easily erased, even if the main cause was taken out of the situation.
Unfortunately, you were not wrong in guessing Alastor would eventually condemn himself to Hell.
Fortunately, you had held onto Hartfelt for the past twenty some years.
You do have another question, but you know better than to ask.
Some demons don't care, but some demons can get quite offended if asked about their appearance and why they ended up looking the way they do. It’s personal, tied to their sins in life and their manner of death.
Asking Alastor why he ended up as a deer demon, a prey-based demon, could get you killed or maybe worse.
“I was mistaken for a deer by an inept hunter who took a shot before bothering to confirm what he was shooting at.” Alastor answers easily and casually, as if reading your mind and knowing what you want to ask. “Do not be afraid to ask me anything, my lovely Doe. I assume you heard my message on one of my broadcasts, yes? I meant every word of what I said.”
Lovely Doe?
‘I told him my name…’ You decided it didn’t matter too much as it wasn’t demeaning or degrading. You’ve been called much, much worse and on a regular basis by Hartfelt, so hearing an affectionate(?) nickname was a bit of refreshing change–
Should you be thinking that way?
Your ears dropped.
“Listen, Alastor,” you noticed his eyes seemed to glow brighter from you simply saying his name, “I messed up that day. I… I shouldn’t have touched you, let alone hug you. There are countless reasons why most demons don’t have free access to the human world. Contact with demons tends to screw humans up. Even just one night with a Succubus or an Incubus can fuck up humans for months and they’re low-class demons.”
Alastor simply tilted his head.
“I’m mid-class and… and I should have known better.” You sighed. “I think I messed you up in some way by touching you and letting you touch me.”
You were taken back when Alastor started to laugh and your ears flattened completely, slightly bothered by his reaction to your words.
Did you say something amusing?
“Oh dear me, you have twisted it all around in your worrisome mind, haven’t you?” Alastor chuckled. “So you have yet to realize you saved me and my Mama from that piece of scum I had to call ‘father’? My life even? Had you not killed that man for me, I would have made a clumsy attempt to murder that man, whether I succeeded or not. Such a thing would have cost me my life much earlier. I would not have been able to pursue my career and take good care of my Mama until her final days.”
You flustered, not sure what to say back.
“I lived my life the way I wished to because you freed me from that man. I am here in Hell purely of my own actions, though perhaps a little earlier than expected. You are very much downplaying what you are to me and I cannot say I care much for it.” Alastor couldn’t help the loudening crackle of his static.
“...okay…”
“Pardon?” Alastor’s ears twitched at the mumble of your voice, though he heard you just fine. He wanted you to clarify what ‘okay’ meant and look him in the eyes as you did so. He wouldn’t trap you in a contract like the fools whose souls he owned, but with his guaranteed protection for nothing more than just staying at his side and within his sight, how could you refuse?
(Though, if you wanted to give him your soul, he certainly wouldn’t turn it down).
“Okay! Maybe I didn’t fuck you up! Maybe you were… a little ‘different’ from the start!” You weren’t sure how to say ‘psychopathic’ in a nice way. “I still felt guilty about it this entire time. I hoped differently, but I knew you would probably end up in Hell.” You admitted, huffing when Alastor let out another chuckle. “So I did something to try to make up for it in case I did mess with your mind somehow.”
“Hmm, and what is that, my lovely Doe?” Alastor’s smile seemed to widen and it may be hidden from view, his tail wagged in excitement. “You thought of me, even before I landed myself in Hell? I must say, I’m quite flattered!”
“I looked for him as soon as I got back from the human world and found him before he understood how… things worked around here.” You didn’t feel bad in the least. “So I tricked him into making a deal with me. Shelter, food, simple basics for his soul. He didn’t seem used to living on the streets, so he took it right away. He didn’t understand what it actually meant to give your soul away.”
“Well done! What a delightful little tidbit! I had no idea if you would be interested in the art of deal-making. I would be more than happy to guide you. Why, I already own a great number of souls myself.” Alastor’s smile turned a little more sinister and he felt his blood heat at the thought of watching you trick some desperate fool into giving you their soul.
He would slaughter an entire district just to see that.
“I’ve… never really thought about it? I just do what I can to get by. Prey and livestock-based demons don’t have it easy in Hell.” You were sought out for your meat after all. “Anyway, I thought I’d make it up to you by – well, that demon whose soul I own is your father’s.”
The static around Alastor went completely silent.
You swallowed thickly, suddenly nervous. “I, uh, I always intended on giving you ownership of his soul whenever you ended up here, if you ended up in Hell. You can do anything you want to him, I have no intention of interfering if you… wanted to broadcast his torment or something.”
Shit, why was Alastor staring at you like that?
Was it the wrong choice? Did he want nothing to do with his father?
“W-WAH!” It was the most pitiful fucking noise you could probably make, worse than that earlier yelp when Alastor seemed to melt into the floor through a void of shadows and then reappear right in your personal space before you comprehended what happened. That was not the reason you let out a damn bleat before you could help it, though.
Alastor was stroking your ears just as he had done twenty-four years prior.
“A gift from you is always welcome, but this – I never imagined one that would bring me such… joy. Truly, you were always meant for me, my lovely Doe.”
“S-so, I take it you want ownership of his soul?” You struggled to get the words out, feeling your vision blur for a moment. You let out a breath of relief when Alastor reluctantly released your ears, but he didn’t step away from your personal space.
“Yes. I’m more than willing to give you a soul – ten even, in return. Mama may disapprove of it, but I will pay back a thousandfold and more for what that man put her through. He will suffer the worst torture I can possibly think of.” To your amazement, Alastor’s pupils spun into a shape that resembled radio dials before returning to normal.
“It’s a gift. You don’t need to give me anything back in return.” You blinked in surprise when Alastor poked your cheek, pinching it playfully before tutting at you. “What was that?!”
“You have been here longer than me, but it seems I must teach you a few good lessons.” Alastor held out his hand invitingly. “Before this transaction, would you like a tour of my radio tower?”
You placed your hand in his. “You’re going to have to explain it like you would to a child how this radio stuff actually works. I can turn my radio on and change the station, that’s about it.”
Alastor felt that chill that followed him all his life leave him and his smile felt genuine for very few times that it was as he felt your hand wrap around his.
He may be dead and in Hell, but his (after)life was looking rather bright – he still could enjoy his passion for radio and he no longer had to hide his true sadistic nature and homicidal thoughts. Better yet, he could combine the two and broadcast tortured screams for denizens of Hell to hear!
He was powerful and feared, toppling Overlords to become himself in an extremely short period of time and he owned multiple souls to do his bidding whenever and whatever he wanted – and soon, he could add his miserable wretch of a father to his collection to torment all he likes.
Best of all, he finally found you, the demon who made this all possible for him and now that he had you in his grasp, there was no conceivable way he would ever let you elude him. He could certainly give you the illusion of freedom and space if that’s what you wanted.
He was charming, he knew that, it’s all he needed to win you over.
Perhaps it would take a little time and patience, but he would get what he wanted in the end like he always did.
His lovely Doe. His new wife.
It was a dream that Alastor was going to turn into his reality.
----------------------------------------------------------
I hope this ending was satisfying

Hello! I just read your lestat x reader fanfic and I’m completely in love with it! Can you maybe do a part 2 with them still being together in 2024?
Anything For You II | Lestat De Lioncourt x Reader
ෆ you are back home and can’t wait to spend time with the love of your life.
omggg i feel so fuzzy inside knowing others enjoy my writing 🩷😋 this is short, but i think it’s a cute ending.
“You can sit them down here, thank you, honey,” you told your chauffeur, handing him a hundred-dollar bill.
“Thank you, Miss”
“No, thank you,” you winked, watching as the handsome man left, driving off in the SUV.
Unlocking the door, you placed your baby, Lena, a purebred Italian greyhound on the floor. She immediately ran towards the sound of the music, wagging her tail in excitement. You thought back to how disgusted Lestat was at the idea of having an animal. He was adamant that if you got this dog you’d be on your own taking care of her. Within a week, you caught him teaching her tricks and feeding her treats. She was 4 and you were hoping to have her mate, in hopes of having grand puppies.
Sitting your luggage by the stairs, you looked around, shaking your head at the lack of renovation that was supposed to happen while you were away. He hadn’t even taken down the photos like you asked, instead he put them back up. Seeing your wedding photo crooked, you couldn’t help but laugh. Housework was never his forte. Staring at the photo, you traced over his face, nearly a century of love and you were still head over heels. You were surprised when he even brought up the subject.
“Marriage?” You closed the novel, sitting it in your lap.
“Do you not want to marry me?” He asked, playfully tilting his head.
“I didn’t think vampires were into nuptials, or you-
“What can I say? Seven years later and I am not against the idea of being bound to someone legally, I also have looked into it and there are many positive aspects-
“You’ve been looking into this?” You couldn’t help but smile, as he slowly came down to his knees in front of you.
“Yes”
“How badly do you want this,” you asked him, your hand going to caress his cheek.
“As much as my thirst for blood,” he continued, his eyes softened as they focused on you.
“Ask me,” you told him, feeling your eyes tingling, you knew tears were soon to fall.
Biting his lip, he stared at you for a second, before pulling the ring from his pocket. You gasped, covering your mouth, as the blood ran down your face.
“Ma chèrie, please grant me the greatest honor to not only be my companion, but my wife. I love you now and I’ll love you forever, will you…marry me?” He asked.
“Of course,” you nodded, holding your hand out, squealing as he slid the ring onto your finger. The ring was timeless, beautifully made, and could catch the attention of everyone in a room with how large and nicely cut the diamond was.
You ended up having a tiny wedding, in the backyard of your home. Just the two of you, a marriage officiant, and a photographer. Shortly after your vows were exchanged, as your photo was taken. The photographer had plenty of vulgar thoughts when it came to you in the form-fitting dress. Regardless, the two ended up being your meals, before a night of passionate intimacy.
Hearing the familiar serenade, you entered the living room. Immediately, you smiled, Lestat sat at the piano, looking at the sheet music, his iPad propped up in front of him, annotations on a digital copy of the music. Crossing your arms, you watched as he was about to continue with the keys, but lifted his hands.
“Who’s your honey?” He asked, making you playfully roll your eyes. No matter how many people were invited into your home, Lestat became jealous if you were too kind to another person for too long.
“Don’t start, you know who has my heart,” you told him, walking over. He immediately opened his arms for you to sit on his lap.
“I missed you, ma chèrie,” he told you, making you loudly coo.
“Awe, I missed you more, you should’ve come, Chicago was fun,” you told him, as he kissed your hand.
“I’d rather not,” he pouted like a child. He knew he’d end up wandering around alone, and while he had no problem doing so - the city held no interest to him. You were there for work, since the late 80s, you had been a real estate agent. At first a small hobby, you eventually expanded, leaving Louisiana for more land in different states. Over the years you made enough money to last for generations. After being home with him for Mardi Gras, enjoying the parades together, the people, and selling to a few tourists - you had been gone for nearly two months.
“You’re so cute,” you laughed, pecking his lips.
“Cute is more…adolescent,” he rolled his eyes, huffing as you stood up.
“Lena, come,” he turned around, as the dog jumped into his lap.
“Why didn’t you let the construction workers come to renovate?” You asked him, going to sit on the couch. He didn’t pay you much mind, more focused on rubbing the dog.
“They all use cheap material and will make it look all modern”
“This company is good, I swear, we need this, the walls are peeling, for god's sake,” you pointed out.
“It gives the house character,” he shrugged.
“Lestat,” you stared at him with a straight face, while he smirked.
“Why did you take down our wedding photo?” He raised an eyebrow.
“All of the pictures need to be taken down, and the coffins put away, for the renovation. I’d prefer to not have to wipe anyone’s memory because they’re wondering why there is a wedding photo of us in the 30s”
“It could simply be a black and white photo, you don’t look a day over 20, as ethereal as you’ve always been,” he complimented, his eyes quickly traveling from head to toe, enjoying your outfit. You always managed to keep up with time, blending in with society. You even learned how to use a smartphone and were sometimes active on social media. Lestat on the other hand, was stuck in his ways, still dressing as lively as he always did, in a nice suit.
In certain areas, he showed his age, not liking a lot of modern music, casual clothing, or how to use technology. All he had was his iPad, like a child, took it everywhere with him, only your contact saved inside. He still struggled to text or FaceTime you, but it was his go-to when the two of you were apart.
“So, how’s the music going?” You changed the subject.
“I will be going on tour soon,” he said, smiling as you clapped in excitement.
“I can’t wait, you’re going to be amazing,” you praised him.
Lestat had always been gifted when it came to music, regularly writing his music to play for you on evenings when you had nothing to do. It wasn’t until he made his first song, for you personally, that you pestered him about publishing it. Now over 50 years after that moment, he released a song, and while it was under his name, his face was completely anonymous. Although it wasn’t for the reason you’d think.
Your social media had been growing, as you publicized your company. Vampires immediately began to recognize you, questioning if you were trying to reveal to the world what you were. They spoke from all over day and night about harming you, when Lestat released the song, taking the attention off of you. They were too afraid of him to boldly do anything, and you being his companion, automatically were protected. You didn’t agree with his decision, but after weeks of dealing with his stubbornness, you accepted the choice he made.
No one knew the face behind the hypnotizing voice, and you were certain they would be falling to their knees as they saw his beautiful face.
“Are you nervous?” You asked as he kept a poker face.
“Of course,” he grinned playfully.
“You’re going to kill it, just hearing them all screaming your name, I can’t wait,” you told him, watching as he sat Lena down, standing to approach you.
“Will you…scream my name”
“Always,” you leaned back, crossing your legs as he moved next to you, his fingertips softly dragging down your leg.
“Then I won’t be nervous”
“There will be groupies…men and women,” you started.
“I won’t invite anyone into our bed you don’t want there,” he shook his head, as you moved to peck his lips.
“I know you will be a superstar, everything about you is remarkable, I love you”
“Anymore praise and I might get an airhead,” he laughed.
“I love you more,” he continued.
“And what about the others, I trust you can protect yourself perfectly, but what if they try to-
“None of them are bold enough to try and if they are then they are asking to see their final death. I won’t let anyone harm you, all because you wanted to share your beautiful pictures with the world,” he told you, wrapping his arm around you, pulling you close.
“Thank you, I couldn’t be more grateful for you as a companion and husband,” you nuzzled your face in his robe.
“Anything for you, ma chèrie”

Love In The Kennels
Eris Week - Day 2 - Childhood and Legacy
Summary - Loving her was the easiest thing Eris had ever done, and a surprise meeting with his "least favorite" Illyrians let's him relive that.
Warnings - Formal dog breeding terms and briefly touched mentions of it, sexual tension, Beron being creepy, Liz's headcanon that Autumn is mote feral, therefore females have heat cycles, childhood friends to lovers, mutual pinning, mentions of fxf smut, mentions of injuries, possibly missed errors
A/N - Happy Day two of @erisweekofficial! I've had his hidden in my docs since Eris week last year, but I was so nervous to post it dur to the formating. It seems that wasn't a huge issue. A heads up, this is very similar to my Tarquin x reader Runaway Love fic. There are italized moments that are flashbacks as Eris and Artemis tell the batboys their story. I also took some inspiration from my absolute favorite Eris fanfiction in how Eris and Artemis constantly say each other's names back and forth. It is almost 6k words, so maybe grab a snackie?
Ps - can you guess with children's princess movie I based their relationship off of?
🍂Eris Week Masterlist🍂Eris Masterlist🍂Master Masterlist🍂
Dividers by @tsunami-of-tears
Eris needed to get Rhysand and his hounds to leave his cabin, and quickly. The sun was starting to set, and Eris knew his wife would be returning home soon. He had come too far to risk her. He already had too much hiding in this cabin due to this surprise interrogation. She was not something he was willing to put at stake.
"The hour grows late, Rhysand," Eris paused as one of his hounds stood and began to pace at the door. "I believe we can discuss this at our next scheduled meeting."
Rhysand smirked in front of him, noting the way Eris passively stated he was not thrilled about their sudden appearance. "So eager to get rid of us, Eris? I thought you wanted our help."
The heir of Autumn scoffed slightly as he continued to watch his hounds growing anxious with the excitement of their mother coming home. "I do," he said calmly. "I just do not wish to discuss this topic at length again."
"The topic of how you left Mor for dead in the woods?" Eris found himself raising a brow at Azriel as he spoke. "I do not believe the shit you fed Nesta and I would like to hear it in person."
Eris rolled his eyes and froze as the first whine happened. Rhys turned to the 3 hounds Eris had brought into the cabin with him. All three of them wagged their tails, constantly readjusting their paws on the wooden floors and staring up at the door. "Are you expecting company, Eris?" Rhys watched as Eris's jaw tightened. Another whine came. It was followed by a sad huff as the male hound lay on the ground.
Eris moved to the cabin door, all three hounds perking up as he did so, "Do not jump. Am I understood?" The smoke hounds whined as he gave them his serious father-like face. "Go." He opened the door, and Azriel watched in silence as the three of them quickly took off into the clearing and waited at the center of it.
"I didn't leave Mor. I caught her in the middle of-" Eris paused thinking of how to word his story to the male who had chased after his ex fiancé for years. "I caught her in the throes of passion with one of my friends. When I asked Morrigan about it, she told me her preferences sexually leaned towards females. We made an agreement. She fucks someone to get out of the marriage, I fake outrage, she's free." Eris looked out into the clearing. The beer he had been nursing appeared in his hands as he waited and watched.
"We hadn't planned on what to do once Keir found out. We figured she'd be sent off to whoever she fucked and then be done with it. When she showed up with the letter nailed into her and beaten, I tried to get her to let me help. I offered to bring her here then get her to the Winter Court. I offered to help. She refused." Eris felt the shift in the clearing and saw his wife and mate off in the distance. 9 other hounds began to howl and whine appearing from out of nowhere before rushing her.
"What is happening out there?" Cassian moved the window by Eris. "Who is that?"
"My wife." Eris said plainly. "I left Mor after getting her to a place she knew you'd be able to find her, Azriel. I waited until you had her to leave. If you didn't come to get her, I was going to bring her here, to a safe cabin, until we could figure something out. Even if she hated me for it.”
Azriel and Rhys had also moved to the window in shock. The last part of Eris's story was buzzing in Azriel's ears as soon as his eyes landed on the figure of the female in the clearing. She was the one who had healed Cassian after he was gutted. The Autumn Court healer they couldn't find to thank. She was laughing as she was being chased around in her burgundy dress, dark hair flowing in the wind as she did. She was holding a bag up from the dogs as they jumped to try to grab it.
Eris sighed softly before moving to the door and reopening it. "No jumping! Let your mother come inside. Don't you all have rabbits to chase?" The hounds all slowly disburse as she patted their heads one by one. The three that had been in the house flanked her. Protecting her as she bounced up the steps to the cabin.
"Hello sugar," Eris said softly. "We have company." He watched her make a small face and laughed slightly before taking her hand.
"I'm mad at you," she said. She moved inside as he stood and processed the sentence. "High Lord. High Lord's friends." She greeted them softly before moving into the kitchen.
"Artemis?"
"Eris?'
Cassian chuckled slightly at the two of them as he watched Eris narrow his eyes at the female. "What exactly did I do to earn your anger?"
"Well, Husband," Rhys laughed this time at the sarcastic tone she was using. "Shall we start with the fact that you left me with your father all day, hmmmm?" She rose a brow at him and set her hand on the counter before also placing one on her hip.
"Or shall we start with the fact that I've been tugging this useless bond for HOURS begging you to come save me? And then I finally get to come home, after your father questioned me about everything under the Gods damned sun, by the way, and I find you drinking beer and having a grand old time."
Azriel covered laughter with a cough as he watched the Autumn female’s chestnut waves dance with every bob and move of her head. She clearly wasn't actually angry with Eris. Just very annoyed. He watched as she slammed down the bag she had been carrying.
"And to really top it off, husband."
"Please, do top it off, wife." Cassian threw his head back at Eris leaning in the doorway with a smirk. “You know I do adore you topping things.”
The female Artemis gave a serpent like smile before cocking her head, deep chocolate eyes playfully glaring at Eris, “When you do finally tug back, it's to ask me to break into your father's office-" She pauses motioning to the bag. "And copy all of THIS!"
Azriel's wings flared as she pulled out copies of the paperwork the Night Court had asked for. He walked to the table instantly, maintaining eye contact with the beautiful female in front of him. "The only reason you are alive right now, Eris-"
"Oh fuck, tell me why I'm alive, Artemis." Eris had grown slightly predatory as the Illyrians slowly realized the husband and wife were flirting with each other.
"The only reason I did not slit your throat when I walked through the door," she paused giggling slightly at Cassian's shocked face as Eris groaned and smiled, "is because that one," she pointed to Azriel, "is handsome and I do not wish for him to see that side of me. Plus your cock serves some purpose. Maybe.”
Cassian lost all composure then, a loud laugh seeming to shake the small cabin they were in as Eris's jaw fell, not realizing she would be so bold in front of the other males in the room. Artemis was rarely subtle though, her freckled face had subtitles. Something Eris had to remind her of frequently when she'd make looks of disgust openly.
"Artemis."
"Eris?"
"I love you." The laughter in the cabin stopped as Eris moved to his wife and kissed the top of her head. "And I'm sorry I wasn't there today."
She continued glaring at the papers in front of her, "You should have let one of them stab you. I might have had sympathy then."
"I could not allow that to happen, wife," Eris said into her hair, "We put knife play on the exclusive to us list.”
She smirked softly before turning to Cassian. "You healed nicely, general."
Cassian made a confused face as he tried to place how he knew her. "Have we met?"
"She's the healer who stitched you shut and spent herself magically so you'd heal as quickly as possible." Rhys said softly looking over the papers again. "Then she disappeared, never to be seen again."
"I didn't disappear. I went back to hiding. My oh so lovely high lord did not clear me to come. My arrogant husband refused to have a cold bed, though." Eris nodded from behind her, sipping his beer again. "He snuck me into you, though. Now I know why."
They watched as she turned and placed a hand on Eris's chest. "I am so proud of you, husband." Eris's smile dropped as she smirked ferally at him. "Who would have known you were capable of making friends?" Eris shut his eyes and bit his inner lip to stop the laughter threatening to spill out.
"Gods why did I marry you?" He looked up to the ceiling. "Wicked, cruel, ruthless little thing you are."
"You sir," she finished pulling out the copies of documents Eris hadn't asked her to steal but she had anyway and handed them to Azriel, "Are the one who forced me into a drunken bargain and then sabotaged my relationships to ensure I would have to marry you."
Cassian opened four more beers as the female poured herself wine. "Now this is a story I need to hear." He settled next to her after handing the beers to the other males. "What exactly happened, little fox? I want to know everything about you and our dear friend, Eris."
Eris growled as Cassian stared down at his wife. "Everything? It all started when Eris and I were like 8."
"I was 12. You were 8." Eris corrected. "We had gone to her family's home. They breed hounds and rumors lead us to believe they had smoke hounds. Beron had beat me for the first time and a puppy was his apology.”
"Artemis!" The young female faeling froze as her father yelled her name. "You need to go bathe, child. The high lord is coming with his son."
Artemis was sitting in the kennel with the new litter of smoke hounds her dog had just birthed almost a month ago. She was covered in dirt, and had fur all over her leggings and tunic she wore while cleaning and working with the hounds.
"Papa! Look at what Scout can do!" She allowed the largest of the male dog to sniff her hand before leaving the kennel and hiding the fabric she was holding in another hounds enclosure. She had dug it deep into the hay and dirt and scent of that hound.
Unknown to her, The High Lord and his son had appeared and were watching as her mother and father apologized profusely. "Scout!" She yelled from the hallway. "Find it!"
Beron watched in silence as a male puppy exited the kennel he was in, sniffing the ground the little female had run all over before locking in on a specific trail. His tail was straight up, shoulders, neck, and head low as he slowly made his way to the part of the run she was nowhere near. He sat and indicated that he had found what he was looking for by barking once as his tail began to wag swiftly.
"I believe we know which hound we want. Your daughter made that quite easy. Right, Eris?" The high lord looked down at his son to find he had locked eyes with the female near his age. Something the princeling wasn't used to.
"Papa?" The girl hid behind her father. "Can I go hide?" Artemis had never seen another child. Not in the seclusion of their farm on the outskirts.
The master of the kennel shut his eyes and whispered another apology. "Of course, baby. I'm sorry. She's not used to seeing anyone other than her mother and I. She's not normally out here when we handle sales. She's very shy."
'So she doesn't want to play?" Eris did the best he could to hide his sadness. He crossed his small arms and hands in front of him.
"I am not sure, my Prince." The older male kneeled down and pointed to the little shed near the kennels. "She probably ran in there. If you'd like to ask. The high lord and I have some paperwork to go over."
"So fucking Eris, comes into my playshed. Without knocking. And asks if I want to play with him. Guess how he responded when I said no?"
Eris smirked, "I commanded her to."
Azriel was invested in the story deeply. He sat and was leaning his head on one hand as Rhys and Eris also took a step and got comfortable. This was the exact information Azriel had actually wanted. Eris in his most intimate moments. The Eris only Cassian and Nesta had grown to know.
"Then she called me a bully. We played for hours. In the creek. In the kennels. In the flower beds. Your mother's food garden."
"Is that when you struck the bargain," Rhysand asked. “Children have been known to do that by accident.”
Eris shook his head. "We were closer to 50 when that happened. We became rivals after we met right away. I couldn't train the hounds the way she could."
"I couldn't use a bow the way he could"
"I had no healing magic the way she did."
"My fire Magic skills weren't coming in as quickly due to my half dawn court heritage."
"She had higher marks in school."
"He had more friends."
"Our birthdays were the same day."
"Our names both have origins with the Gods and we were teased for it."
"She's always been beautiful. I was an ugly brat."
"Accurate." Eris flipped her off and she blew him a kiss.
Rhys paused looking at the two of them. "So you two hated each other?"
She nodded while he shook his head. "I've loved her since we were children. I just wished she'd teach me the things she could do that I couldn't."
"I hated him," she said boldly, causing a rare laugh to come from the shadowsinger. "That was our childhood, though. A constant back and forth of competition."
Eris sighed softly, "And then I realized I wanted her when I had turned 54, and she was 50. We were at a stupid ball my father was throwing in her honor since our families became very close due to the hounds."
Artemis laughed as Eris twirled her again. Her dress swished behind her as he did so. Eris had not allowed another male besides his and her father near her all evening. He had told her it was because it was technically both of their birthdays and what kind of male would he be if he allowed another male the opportunity to dance with the most beautiful female in the room.
Their friendship, if one would or could call it that, had become tense as they approached adulthood. Their hormones from their teenage years had left them both burning for each other. Not that Artemis would ever admit that.
She curtsied as he bowed at the song's end, "Eris."
"Artemis." He immediately interrupted her in the same fashion he always did when she said his name.
"Can we get a drink, please?" Eris took in her flushed face, her labored breathing. He had her out here for almost two hours now without a rest break or beverage.
"Of course, my lady." He offered her his arm as they made their way to the wine table. "Have you had wine yet, or will this be your first time?"
"My first time. What do you suggest, my prince?" Eris handed her the Autumn court golden wine saved for celebrations and special occasions.
"Shall we?" He held his glass to hers.
"We shall." Eris and Artemis drank way too much that night. Giggling and joking with each other as their ambitions fell to none.
They stared off the balcony at the dark orchard in front of them, "Make me a deal, Artemis."
"Depends on what it is, Eris."
The heir smirked at the hiccup in her voice as she leaned into him. They were so far gone. Drunk on each other, happiness, and wine. "If I am not married by say….. 550, let's marry each other."
Artemis paused suddenly sober on his shoulder as they turned to face each other. "What do I get out of that?"
"Me?" The heir seemed offended as he stared at her. "A higher station? All the pretty dresses you could want?"
She scoffed lightly. "My family has the second highest station in this court. My father is your father's right hand. My brothers both have high positions in your armies and command their own legions." She turned back to the Forest. "What of love, Eris? What do you have to offer me there?"
The heir paused before moving to cage her body between him and the balcony. She felt so right in his arms. Like she was made for him. "I can promise you you'll never be alone. That you will feel safe and wanted every day. That you would be my equal in every way. We would make any decisions we needed to make together." He took a deep breath and started again.
"I can promise to warm you bed, magically sugar, every night so you are never cold. That you will be showered with gifts, compliments, and treats." She hummed at the mention of sweets, causing Eris to chuckle. "I promise to take you to every court. To always dance with you."
She whispered softly again. "But what of love, Eris?"
He leaned into her ear, knowing she would not remember the soft confession he was about to whisper to her. "I have loved you since we were children, Artemis. And I will love you long after this world takes its last breath."
She sealed the bargain by crashing her lips onto his. Their first kiss. It was sloppy. Messy. Tasted heavily of honeyed wine, but Eris was too happy to turn it away as matching leaves appeared on both of them.
"I had no clue what the fuck this was from. I was absolutely wasted," Artemis said as she held her left ring finger up. A small fall colored leaf graced the skin right above her wedding band and engagement ring. "He had to tell our families what happened the next morning."
"Father beat me for weeks after that." Eris shrugged as Azriel's jaw dropped. "Fuck him."
Cassian pulled her small hand closer to his face, "Your bargain tattoos look so life like?" Rhys undid the glamour he had on his own Autumn court bargain. An acorn stood out, clear as day, on the wrist joint.
"It's honestly become my favorite." The high lord admitted. "I have never had a seasonal court bargain. I find it unique that their's are symbols instead of runes spelling the conditions."
"I want one." Cassian said. "We'll think of something." He pointed to Eris, who laughed softly.
Azriel was the only one deeply confused as he listened to the love story between Eris and Artemis. One would almost describe his investment as childlike wonder as he flicked his eyes back and forth between the two of them. "So you were in love with her the whole time?" Eris nodded to the shadowsinger. "So why didn't you just marry her?"
"Because his engagement to Morrigan was a- interesting hangnail that left lingering tensions. Even after he told my parents what happened." Sadness was clear in her voice, “That whole thing was a shit show.”
"You contributed to that, my love."
The three illyrians snapped their heads back to the Autumn Court Female. Flush had spread across her chest and cheeks. "I didn't exactly know what she meant when she asked me if I wanted to try that, Eris. She offered a demonstration, I innocently said yes."
"This is true. You did say "penis" to me once before you learned bedroom talk." Cass covered his mouth as she sighed and stared at Eris.
"You're making it sound like we have tons of sex when that's never happened. I said it as a joke, not realizing the real joke was the use of the word "penis." She glared at Eris.
"You two haven't?"
"Nope," They said together.
"Contraceptives do not work on Autumn Court females. Our blood burns too hot. I won't risk it until his father kicks the bucket."
Azriel looked at her, "So you fucked Mor instead?"
"Um-" She began to blush again. "I let her do things after we had discussed how I had never done said things. Yes."
"And then I walked into her guest room thinking I was about to kill some male for touching her, and guess who's there instead with her head buried between my mate's thighs? Morrigan." Eris chugged his beer before grabbing another. "Guess who hasn't gotten to be between his mate's thighs? Eris."
"Cry me a river, Vanserra."
Eris responded by raising a single finger to his wife. Rhys interrupted their impending flirting, "So we know what happened with Morrigan? What led to this?" He motioned to their rings.
"I began to sabotage every relationship she had. Anytime I found out a male was trying to court her, I dueled them, threatened their station, their business, their lives. Or I'd just simply invite myself on her dates." Eris shrugged as he switched to the scotch he hid for special occasions. Everyone had moved to the living room, Eris holding Artemis tight by his side.
"I disappeared for a hundred years though to be transparent," she said softly. Eris hummed before kissing her head.
"You had a valid reason, sugar."
"Eris, please," Artemis was pleading with the male as she braided her long hair. "I really like him."
"He enjoys your company as well." Eris paused as he took in her cream dress and tall dark leather boots. "And by that, I mean your tits. It's all he would talk about at training today." She sighed softly. Eris moved to help her finish her braid.
The scent of toasted sugar and roses clung to her like a second skin now that she had gone through her first heat, and it slapped him in the face. He growled softly in her ear, and she whimpered back. Leaning her head over, she exposed her neck to Eris. "Sugar," he growled in warning.
Protecting her in the Forest House had been nearly impossible during her heats. His brothers and father had nearly slaughtered each other while he stood guard with her brothers.
The bond snapped when he took her in food the second day of that long week. She had been naked in a hot bath, whimpering softly as she desperately tried to ignore the pain growing between her legs and in her stomach. It was a curse only Autumn females experienced. It was a plague to ensure the population stayed high here.
That scent became a warning. He used to dread the first signs of it. Now, years later, it was one of Eris's favorite things. He'd drown in her scent if she'd just allow him to.
"You smell delicious, little bunny," he whispered into her ear. He watched with feral eyes as her breath hitched. "When is your next heat?" She whimpered as his large hands took her hips in them. Grabbing the skin there. Massaging softly.
"It's not supposed to be for another week," He hummed as his mouth grazed the shell of her dedicated pointed ear. He ignored her words, nipping softly at the pointed top. "Eris, please. I need to get ready."
"No, you don't," he paused. "You can stay here and read with me. We can head back to your family estate and check the new litter early. You do not have to go on this date with this unworthy male."
Eris paused as a knock came on her door and went to hide in her closet. He nodded for her to open the door once he warded his scent and sound from whomever was entering the room.
"Enter," she said softly as she began applying soft makeup. "Oh, High Lord, what a pleasant surprise."
Eris watched as his father studied Artemis. "Are you going somewhere, dear one?"
"One of the generals is taking me on a walk, my lord," she replied softly.
"You really must learn to aim higher, Lady Artemis. A general? You could be pursued by much higher ranks."
"I am sorry. I do not know what you mean?" Eris watched as his father walked slowly to his mate. He held back a growl as the hand that had beaten him countless times touched her delicate face.
"You can do much better, Artemis. Surely you know my bed is always open to you." He watched as Artemis looked at his father in shock. "You have come to realize why we keep you here during your heat cycles, haven't you, dear girl? It's in hopes of one of my sons, or I, will put a babe inside of you."
"You wish to make me your whore?" Artemis whispered softly.
"I wish to make you my son's wife, but if the idiot will not take you himself, so I see nothing wrong with another of us trying." Beron touched her neck and collarbone gently. "You smell like your heat is about to set in. Think about my offer, pretty girl."
"I never went on a date that night." Azriel was stiff across from her. His hand clutched. Artemis reached over and held his scarred hand in hers.
"She never went on a date ever again after that. She winnowed home without saying goodbye." Eris found his hand absentmindedly rubbing circles on his wife's back. "I hunted her down before we all ended up under the mountain. The bargain timing was coming to a close. I asked her to marry me in secret the night before we all fell into her trap."
"Artemis," she felt her skin erupt into goosebumps as a familiar voice rang through the smoke hound kennel. "Ah, there you are."
Eris watched as she stood slowly, a pup in her arms, "Eris."
You realize we are both unwed and our birthday is in 2 weeks. Correct?"
Artemis closed her eyes, "I can't go back there, Eris."
"So you'd rather we both die?"
"I've always been fine with you dying." Eris chuckled softly from the spot he stood at as she presented the pup she was holding to him. "This is Archie. She's proving to be a wonderful hunter."
Eris took the pup from her arms and held her. "She has a wonderful build," he examined her carefully. Checking her ears, teeth, eyes. "Who are her bitch and sire?"
Artemis motioned towards the kennel, "Rammie and Rainy." Eris nodded. "She comes from a long line of prize-winning hunters. We picked the two of them to go together after buying out the last other breeder. Less inbreeding among their stock now is making an interesting change."
"Congratulations on the success. We're getting married tonight in secret." Eris dropped the bomb casually on her as he continued to scratch the pup behind her ears. "This little beauty shall be my wedding present."
"You have got to be joking," Artemis said slowly. "No."
"Yes. I do not intend to die over a decision we foolishly made when we were drunk. Get ready and meet me in an hour, or I'll drag you there in your leggings and tunic."
"For all you know," she pointed to the hounds in the kennel, "They were a courting present from the kennelmaster of-."
Eris laughed lightly. "Not his style, princess. He would have just stolen you. Get ready. Now."
"So you two married in silence?" Azriel looked between them. "And you didn't even get to have a mating ceremony or honeymoon because of her. Did you go with him under the mountain?"
Artemis pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. "No," she said softly. "Eris kept me here. I-" She looked up and sighed softly. "The bond hadn't snapped for me. So, I spent 50 years trying to help maintain Autumn with the fewlordss that were left. I regret not going."
"I don't regret leaving you here," Eris ran a hand through her hair, pulling her back into his chest. "She would have killed you."
Rhys nodded slowly, "I wasn't the only one Amarantha played with," the high lord sighed. "If she would have known Eris had a wife, a mate nonetheless, she would have had Artemis pulled under the mountain and her womb ripped out in front of Eris."
Cassian felt sympathy set in for Eris. "So, when did the bond snap?"
The couple both smiled. "When he came home," her eyes were on him and him alone as he raised her hand, kissing it.
Artemis was cleaning kennels as she prepared for her newest litter. There wasn't much she could do as the Autumn thunderstorm raged on outside. She had hoped cleaning kennels would take her mind off her husband, but it hadn't.
She sighed softly at the amount of hounds she currently had. They had wonderful lives. They were enriched, allowed to roam, trained, well fed. It just broke her heart not to see a Vanserra or other noble laying claim to them, though. She had sent a few over the border to Spring once. Lucien had almost cried with joy as the three pups found him. She had sent them with his favorite Autumn treats and her love. Lucien sent her frequent updates on them until they passed.
Eris had approached her slowly, rain dripping down his face and hair as he froze at the sight of her. He wanted nothing more than to see his wife, his mate. She was deep in thought as she picked up blankets and put them in a basket to change them out.
"I know, baby," she leaned down and patted one of the hounds. "You're almost there. Let momma get you some new water and blankets.'"She moved to pick up the basket, looking down as she turned towards where Eris stood. He cleared his throat softly, wanting her attention but not wanting to startle her.
Artemis looked up instantly at the noise. They locked eyes the second she did. Tears began to fall down her cheeks as she stood in silence before dropping the basket.
She ran to him. Jumping in his arms and wrapping her legs around his waist. Their lips were on each other instantly. He kissed her deeply as the rain poured on them.
Her hands tangled in his hair. She knew she was crying. But she couldn't bring herself to care. She had missed him. Missed his laugh, his voice, his hands. And Gods, after 50 years apart, she knew. She knew without a shadow of doubt that she was truly, madly, and deeply in love with Eris.
"Eris," she whispered. She opened her eyes, looking into his again. Then she felt it. She felt her gravity shift. Her heartbeat quickened, then slowed. She felt a deep snap radiating through her, and a sob tore through her. "Mate."
Eris let out the soft sob he was holding back. "Mate. I love you."
"I love you," she repeated. He carried her like that into her parent's home where their families waited for them.
Eris had told his parents the second they arrived home in Autumn of the bond. He wanted to truly marry her in front of the whole court. Their fathers had agreed instantly. This benefitted Beron, and for her father, it put Eris one step closer to ending the tyranny.
Azriel truly looked like a child right now. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees as he rested his chin on his hands. "And now we're here?"
Eris nodded, "And now we're here." Cassian watched as Eris kissed Artemis's ring and softly whispered that he loved her.
Rhys was processing everything slowly. "But Nesta?" He finally said.
Artemis laughed lightly as Eris smirked, "If you're going to dangle a treat in my face, Rhysand, I'm going to try to take it. She would have had to settle for being my consort."
Artemis shrugged, "Or my wife. I technically only have a husband."
Cassian started laughing again. "Oh Mother, if you can survive Eris for almost 500 years, I cannot imagine you and Ness together."
"We got along fine when she sat with me while I healed you. We like the same books, wine, and both enjoy long baths."
Cassian looked at her. "You're the one she keeps asking about then." Artemis looked shocked at Cassian. "She doesn't have a lot of friends."
"Because she's blunt and abrasive? That's why I liked her." Artemis shrugged. "She would have fit in well here. Also-" She turned to Rhysand and smiled. "We're even."
The high lord nodded, "So you don't want me to bring you thousands of gifts?" Eris growled slightly looking at the High Lord.
"She receives PLENTY of gifts. Thank you."
"You could bring me Lucien," she whispered softly. "I miss him."
“Or kill my father,” Eris muttered silently. “Then she could have her baby.”
Artemis released a dreamy sigh, “A little baby to grow with all the love in the world. No Beron. No violence. A new beginning.”
Azriel held up the papers she brought. A silent confirmation that was what they were for. Eris only looked at her, continuing to drink his beer. She knew now. Knew the dangerous reason the 3 of them were here.
“So the legacy begins,” she turned to Eris. “You're ready for things to change?”
Eris only nodded, “I'm ready for change.”
“Then change we will make,” Artemis said as if he was the only being in the room. He was the only one that mattered to her now. She stared at him in pride for a moment before turning to the shadowsinger and pulling out one last paper she had hidden in the corseted bodice. “A map. Of the Forest House.”
The males all moved to the table as she unfolded it, and the discussion began, Artemis at Eris's side. Their future was the only thing on her mind. The new era that her mate would bring to Autumn.
It was time for the narrative to change.
And Artemis knew Eris was a world shaker.

Before that chaos you were told by Pierre that Lewis was moving to Ferrari in a year that he was told by Charles.
Which that should have been secret until announced by the teams but it's nice to know things... That was something interesting.
....
At Lewis apartment complex
*Puzzing *" Nico! Can you please open the door for me?!"
"Why? " Nico answered from the phone
"uhh I came to see you and the girls!" she made a face at that coming with a lie but not really a lie, she did missed Nico and the girls but she came here to confront Lewis about him leaving Mercedes for Ferrari
There was a moment of silence until his voice came again on the phone
"Sure" that was it the buzzing that opened the door came through and she pushed the door open and come up to his apartment, he was waiting for her to come up with his girls with him. The girls jumped to her, hugging her and welcoming her inside, taking off her shoes she came to Nico next and kisses his cheeks crossed and his wife hugging them for a bit and they started to talk about everything.
After a few hours she left and went to Lewis's apartment knocking loudly at the door. When the door opened and revealed Lewis standing there with gray sweatpants and sweater with his hair unbraided Roscoe at his feet wagging his tail seeing her after quite a bit of time he launched himself at her and she kneeled down petting him and scratching him on his back, under his head and belly making him lay down and smile getting his belly scratches.
" Lewis we have to talk" she finally spoke
" Well first of all, how did you get here?" he asked surprised
"Nico opened the door for me!" there was a pause " don't change the subject! Are you going to Ferrari in 2025?!" she exclaimed
" uh I can't tell you that... Sorry"
" Just tell me why?... Are you retiring? Oh no... Are you? You are returning after that aren't you? God!" she then started to tear up and rant about it the only thing he could do is make her stand up and walked her at the couch while she was having a mental breakdown.
Then there was lando leaked asking for nudes and honestly she learned that from TikTok, she was scrolling down on her for you page while getting her food a bit cooled down and a slideshow popped up about the situation and there was her appetite

“Are you done?” you ask. “Boot and I would like to turn around now.”
“We’re not calling them Boot and Tiny Tim.” You move your head to glance at Tim, and he takes the opportunity to lean closer. “Besides, as the father of your children, I have every right to stare at you.”
“I miss soldier.”
Tim’s smile falls as he rolls his eyes, moving away from you to pick up your other baby.
“Sorry, Tim,” you whisper.
“He’s coming back,” Tim grumbles. “I’m not going to be able to get a moment of peace with him as the godfather, am I?”
“Nope,” Angela says as she and Wesley walk into the room. “But, if you need a babysitter to escape from him, you know where to find me.”
“Right, because we don’t have our own kids to take care of,” Wesley adds, smiling at you.
“Knock, knock,” your favorite nurse and new friend calls. “You’ve got a couple of good-looking soldiers waiting down the hall. You want me to send them in or can I keep one for myself?”
You smile at her teasing before nodding. “They can come in. But I’m not sure they’re in your league.”
“Oh, hun, you flatter me. But your mom brain is already activated. Have you seen those gentlemen?”
“What is this?” Tim asks Angela.
“You’re jealous, Timothy,” she answers. “Soldier and all of his good-looking friends intimidate you, right?”
“No!”
“Good job, Tim,” Wesley interjects. “Very non-jealous answer.”
“How did I go from the one who teases my wife to the one being tortured by everyone in the room? Including my kids!” Tim exclaims.
“They like me more,” you say quietly, your attention back on the baby in your arms.
“That part I understand,” Tim replies. “It’s everything else.”
“Welcome to my world.”
“If you think this will make me stop, you’re wrong.”
Your shoulders fall as you sigh, wildly in love with Tim but still affected by every word and look he sends you.
“Hey, I brought you a surprise,” soldier says as he’s escorted to the room.
“I’m not playing another Disney song for you, I don’t think mama’s heart can take it,” your nurse says.
“No, this isn’t that good. Are you ready?”
You nod slowly, hoping that his surprise is good and not what he and Tim consider good surprises, which are usually more entertaining for them than you. When he drops an arm, you raise in the bed to look at him. A leash hits the floor, and Kojo runs into the room, sliding to a stop beside you. He tilts his snout and sniffs the baby in your arms before raising a paw.
You don’t have time to do anything before the nurse taps the foot of the bed. Kojo immediately hops up, lying beside your legs and pressing his nose to the blanket wrapped around Boot.
“Hey, buddy,” you greet, moving a hand to pat his head. “You’re such a good boy.”
You don’t see it, but Tim sends a grateful smile and nod to soldier, thanking him for thinking of Kojo and how much you love him. Kojo was by your side throughout your pregnancy, cuddling you, whining when you did too much, and keeping his head on your bump as it grew. Tim has never been so happy as when he sees Kojo in the bed with you and one of his sons.
“One more surprise?” soldier asks.
“Can I handle it?” you ask quietly.
“Who cares?” Angela asks happily. “Do it, soldier.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he replies playfully before stepping to the side.
You hear a few excited footsteps before another dog joins Kojo on the bed. Adorned in his military K-9 harness, soldier’s dog wags his tail as he sniffs your hand and Boot’s blanket. Boot coos, and across the room, Tiny Tim wiggles in Tim’s grasp.
“Is it too late to return them?” Tim asks as he walks to your side.
Soldier’s dog glances up quickly, alert at the sudden movement. When he sees Tim and another baby, he relaxes, wagging his tail as he stretches to nudge his nose against Tiny Tim’s side.
“Last one, I promise,” soldier says as he steps inside.
Two of his military friends you’ve come to know over the years follow him inside, smiling as they congratulate you on two beautiful boys. They set a gift bag on the table by your bed, and you thank them softly.
“May I?” soldier asks, reaching for Boot.
“Careful,” Tim warns.
“I know,” soldier answers, cradling Boot against his chest as he introduces him to his friends.
Soldier’s dog moves closer to you now that you’re not holding a baby, sniffing you all over as you laugh. He lays his head on your chest, grunting when anyone moves. Kojo follows him, laying his head on your stomach and rubbing his chin against your hospital gown.
“Well, Tim, it seems you really have been replaced,” Wesley jokes. “Another man holding your baby, two strong guys protecting your wife while she heals. What does she need you for?”
“To have the babies,” you say under your breath.
Tim smiles, close enough to hear you. “And to make you shy,” he adds.
You hum, and Angela laughs. She checks her phone when it chimes, showing Tim a message before they both look up at you.
“What?” you ask, tucking your head toward one shoulder at their undivided attention.
Kojo huffs as Tim sets Tiny Tim back in the crib. You smile, glad to know that Kojo already loves the twins.
“Everything going okay in here?” your nurse asks.
Your eyes are still on Tim and Angela, so you don’t answer. Angela nudges Tim, and he sighs, running a hand through his hair as he steps toward you. Soldier’s dog lowers his snout, prepared to defend you if necessary; he perks his ears, listening to your breathing change as you grow worried and shy.
“Tim,” you beg, “just tell me.”
“My extra time off got approved,” he answers.
You take a deep breath, and soldier’s dog stands to sniff your chest and throat, looking for any sign of injury or unknown threat.
“It’s okay,” soldier calls. “Lay down.”
“Why do you do this to me? After everything I’ve done to give you those perfect babies,” you murmur.
“Speaking of those perfect babies,” your nurse interjects. “You have been cleared to take them home.”
She walks closer to your bed, smiling at one of soldier’s friends. After she explains what you should do after you get home for yourself and your boys, you sigh.
“Have any tips for dealing with him?” you whisper, pointing to Tim as he talks to soldier.
“Don’t let him get away with so much,” she answers, as if it’s that easy.
“Yeah, she can’t do that,” Angela interjects. “She’s shy and he takes advantage of it. Considering the fact that they’re married and have babies, though, I’m not convinced she really minds.”
“Here is my number,” your nurse says, passing you a piece of paper. “I’d be happy to date one of those guys over there and keep your husband in line.”
“I knew I liked you,” Angela says.
“At least you two know how to be nice to me and the boys,” you whisper to the dogs beside you.
“She married Tim for Kojo,” Angela tells your nurse.
“Whoa,” Tim calls, turning toward you with both twins in his hold. “You’re still not funny.”
“She’s hysterical,” Wesley replies, smiling when Angela points to him.
“Soldier?” you ask. “Can I keep your dog?”
“No. But I’ll bring him by more often. Since he likes you more than me.”
“Welcome to my world,” Tim replies, looking into your eyes as he repeats your earlier sentiment.
“It’s discharge time, Mr. Bradford,” your nurse interrupts, winking at you. “Sorry, folks, but that means unless you’re mom or dad, it’s time to go.”
Kojo whines when soldier clips his leash on, refusing to leave your side. Tim takes the leash, calling Kojo. He stands slowly, keeping his head down as he obeys as slowly and sadly as possible.
“We’ll be home soon, Kojo. You can choose some new nicknames, bud,” Tim tells him.
“I’ll drop him by your place and make sure everything’s set up for you,” soldier offers.
“And we filled up your pantry and fridge this morning,” Wesley adds as he steers Angela toward the door. “Congratulations again.”
Once the room is empty except for your husband and babies, you lean against the pillow behind you.
“Am I going to have to carry you out, too?” Tim asks, running his fingers over your collarbone and up your neck.
“Would you?”
Tim smiles, leaning closer to you. “You know I will, gorgeous.”

*SUFFERING*
(Odysseus and his crew are out of the underworld, and are now on water again)
???: Yoohoo!
Odysseus: Wha-?
Penelope?: My daring adorable smoking cute husband! I miss youuuu!
Odysseus: ...
Odysseus: My loving glorious wife! Oh I miss you too!
Penelope?: You know I can't stand not seeing you for a while! Come into the water! And give me your loving kisses!
Odysseus: I would my love! But alas, I am scared of getting in the water to see your precious face..
Eurylochus, whispering to the other crew members: I don't know what's weirder, he's flirting with a siren or the fact this is too strange to look at..
Penelope?: But baaabe! I'll make sure your safe! Me and our beautiful daughter are waiting for you!
Odysseus: I would precious, but I'd be trying to float the entire time, I feel much safer up here!
Penelope?: Pleeeeease? :)
Odysseus: ....How can I not resit that charm? But, could you answer something for me?
Penelope?: Yes!
Odysseus: Alright. Imagine that I'm on the run from the terrifying god Poseidon, and he traps us with waves and storms to make sure we don't get home..
Penelope?: Oh thats horrible! :(
Odysseus: Oh it is! But answer me this, which way can I go to get home?
Penelope?: That's simple! Just go through the lair of scylla! He'd never go there...
Odysseus: ....LAIR of scylla?
Penelope?: Mhm!
Odysseus: It has a cost though...
Penelope?: You did ask, so here's your answer! Now come in the water and play with me! <33
Odysseus: *insert hair flick* Aww, but you do know I'm too shy about getting in the water. Why don't you come up here instead and we'll jump at the same time so I feel safe!
Eurylochus silently: LET THIS BE OVER PLEASEEEE-
Penelope?: You can do it dear! I'll catch you when you get down here! It'll be quick as possible!
Odysseus: ..fine, but only this once! *he slowly goes over to-*
*DIFFERENT BEAST*
(HITS THE SIREN IN THE FUCKIN CHEST)
Siren: OW, WHAT THE HELL?!
Odysseus: Nice try, but you're not fooling me that easily. One, I'm not scared of the water. Two, I don't even have a daughter!
Siren: ...crap.
Odysseus: We also kidnap your friends too.
Siren: HUH?!
Odysseus: We also filled our ears with beeswax so your kept being my squinting my eyes! Now I know how to get home thanks to you!
The crew: WHOOOOOHOOO!
Siren: Wait! Just- just please spare us, and won't do anything bad ever again!
Odysseus: You're just gonna go after more sailors if I do. We're cutting off your tails and letting you all drown!
Sirens: NOOOOOO!
*SCYLLA*
Odysseus: Alright guys, we get through this lair nice and carefully, then we will finally get home..
Eurylochus: ...FUCK IT. CAPTAIN, I CANT HOLD THIS IN ANYMORE BUT I WAS THE ONE WHO OPENED THE WINDBAG WHILE YOU WERE ASLEEP!
Odysseus: *Insert slow turning around* YOU DID FUCKING WHAT?!
Eurylochus: I'm sorry, it was all fast and all of a sudden! Forgive me please!
Odysseus: ...................go and light up six torches.
Eurylochus: Uh, alright..
*Eurylochus lights up six torches and hands them to six of the crew*
Eurylochus: ....wait, I see something in the distance. It's coming toward us..
Scylla : HELLO. >:)
Odysseus: Oh shit- EVERYONE ROW FOR YOUR LIVES!
Scylla: ITS FUCKING DINNER TIME!
*scylla's other heads start going after six of the crew, eating their bodies as blood escape from their mouths. After the gore and horror, the crew make it out of the lair, Odysseus is looking up, not turning around*
*MUTINY*
Eurylochus: Okay, what the fuck was that?! You just used our six friends to be killed? We passed through the cyclops, and gods because you had a plan in mind!
Odysseus: ....
Eurylochus: And what did we do when we saw that monster? We fucking ran! Do you miss your wife that bad?! Are you crazy or what?! .......SPEAK!
Odysseus: I CAN'T AND I WONT.
Eurylochus: *silent is upon him*
Eurylochus: Very well..
*He pulls out his sword, odysseus from this also takes out his*
Odysseus: Don't you know what you're doing right now? You'd do it to y'know!
Eurylochus: Absolutely, and you have betrayed us all, so PAY THE PRICE!
*the two fight like it was a star wars saberfight for a few minutes. Eurylochus gets pushed to the ground as Odysseus has him down*
Odysseus: If I'm paying the price, then you're going down FIRST-!
Perimedes: *Stabs Odysseus in the stomach a bit* NO.
Odysseus: ACK....WHY'D YOU DO THAT?
Perimedes: Im sorry, but you're out of time Captain, we won't take this suffering no more.
Crew: Fuck you captain!
*Before odysseus could speak, Eurylochus has knocks him out*

Eurylochus: Uh, yeah I am going to! We're never gonna make it home y'know!
Odysseus: You don't know that's true, besides it's the sun god's cows! Who knows what would happen!
Eurylochus: .....I cant suffer like this anymore ody, after all I am just a man.
Odysseus: EURYLOCHUS WAIT-!
Eurylochus: *Stabs the cattle in the throat*
*thunder can be heard as the clouds get darker*
Odysseus: YOU SCREWED US ALL IDIOT!
Eurylochus: ....captain?
Odysseus: *unties himself* EVERYONE GET BACK ON THE SHIP, GET AN OAR AND ROW AS FAST AS YOU CAN! NOW! BEFORE WE'RE DOOMED!
*All the crew get onto the ship and grab and oar, they row faster, and faster...until they saw thunder appear in front of them*
Odysseus: Crap....
*THUNDER BRINGER*
Zeus: *He appears from the thunder, he takes a step forward*
Zeus: Wellll odysseus, it seems that your crew has become total dumbasses! So I'm giving you a small deal.
Odysseus: ...a-and what's that?
Zeus: You get to choose who gets to die from the thundering bringer of death! Your crew, or just you. That's all you have..
Odysseus: But...I don't want to..
Zeus: Choose..

Odysseus: ....penelope?
Penelope...: Please come home...ditch your crew and come to your loving family..
*"Penelope" kisses odysseus on the forehead as she fades away. Odysseus turns to Eurylochus*
Eurylochus: Ody...?
Odysseus: I gotta see her Eury..
Eurylochus: But we'll die from this!

AUGUST 12, THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
“i can’t even…” mikasa sputtered, running a shaky hand through the sable—and once perfectly coiffed—hair atop her head. “i can’t believe you, eren.” she let the sleek mop of her fur coat droop down her arms, seemingly indifferent as to whether or not it landed on the nearby coat rack. as he watched it collide with the tile floor of their foyer, eren recalled the eight thousand dollar price with a scoff.
“save it, mika.” eren huffed, trying to drown out the sounds of her heels clicking against the floor as she tailed him into the living room.
“oh, trust me, i have. i saved it on the bus. i saved it on the plane. i even saved it on the ride home when it was just the two of us.”
“i meant save it for someone who wants to hear it, ‘cause i sure as hell don’t, mikasa.” he blew the words out as an exasperated sigh.
mikasa barked, the tone of her voice akin to a creaky window. “i’m gonna speak now, and you will hear every word!”
eren could tell just by the way the words scratched against her throat that she was about to lay it on thick. and mikasa had a very poor habit of not knowing when to fucking stop. if he wanted to listen to someone berate him for every mistake he’d ever made, he’d pick up the phone and call his father.
“honestly, eren, do you even want this election?”
“of course i do. do you not see how hard i’ve been working?”
“oh, is that what that was? were you working hard at that primary, because all you managed to do was piss me off.”
“don’t start with me right now. i’m not in the damn mood for this.”
“and you think i am? you think i’m in the mood to be having this conversation?” mikasa laughed, but it felt more like a sarcastically delighted scoff. her eyes went glossy with something familiarly maniacal, and eren could more than tell what she was getting ready to do. arranging a beautiful artillery of words at the tip of her tongue for the sole purpose of destroying him in that very moment. “i mean, do you not realize how lucky you are? you’re smart, you’re rich, you’re handsome, you come from one of the most powerful families in the country. you could have the office right now if you wanted. but you don’t want it.
“i had dreams, y’know. i could’ve been a partner at my firm, but i gave it up. and for what? so you could screw around behind that podium?” mikasa kicked out of her shoes before hooking the heels under her fingers.
eren released the bridge of his nose from the pressing grip of his fingers. “i’ll be at the guest house tonight.”
mikasa only sighed. they seldom got in fights that led to them sleeping separately, but in those rare instances, it was the best (and sometimes the only) option. “right. well, get some rest. we’re meeting with levi tomorrow.”
he took a chance glance into his wife’s eyes—an oasis of grey, brimming with thoughts and emotions of which she had barred his access. save for the frustration evident on all the other parts of her face.
it was so eerily similar to that of his mother. he could count on both hands the number of times she blinked that same world-weary gaze in his father’s direction. how long had she been sleeping in the guest bedroom before she’d considered a divorce?
“yeah. you too.”
14 MAY, SIX MONTHS AFTER THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
“don’t even try to deny it.” mikasa said. a sick, wifely part of her burned with satisfaction at the sight of your infuriatingly beautiful face—cracked into a myriad of distressing pieces, like a plate she’d just struck with a hammer. “and before you ask, no. i don’t have proof.” if she were being a hundred percent honest with herself, it hadn’t even crossed her mind to gather any proof. what had her marriage done to her? she was a lawyer, and top of her class, godamnit! if eren’s classless affair reduced her to a point of throwing around baseless accusations, then she was just as bad as him. which meant that she needn’t waste any more time on this than absolutely necessary. “but i don’t need any, either. i mean, look at you two.”
you scoffed, seeming to forget that your glass was empty and being met with a jarring (and actually rather rude) slurping noise. thankfully, the waiter was there to swipe the glass from your hand before any more damage to her ears could be done. although, mikasa was almost sick with pleasure as she watched your futile attempt at trying not to crumble. “look at—look at what, exactly?”
“i don’t know what it was, but part of me could just tell he wanted you. maybe it was me being his wife and such, but i just knew. that first night i introduced you two, he had this—this hard-on in his eyes whenever he looked at you.” she thought back to that very night. where you’d seemingly been oblivious to her husband ogling you like you were a piece of meat. “but i could deal with that. i could screw him a little more often. we were supposed to be trying anyway. but then,” at the mention of them trying, mikasa caught you shifting uncomfortably in your seat, and thought to herself, good. she hoped your mind would run itself wild imagining all the trying they did.
“but then?”
mikasa had to brace herself. because eren could be as horny for as many twenty year olds as he wanted. he could have as many stupid, meaningless affairs as he wanted. him being unhappy in their marriage, she could handle that. her husband being careless enough to risk his presidency over some college freshman, she could handle that. none of it would’ve been worse than what he actually did. “i think he actually started to like you.”
AUGUST 12, THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
you put your house phone out of its ringing misery with a clipped, “hello,” for you had barely graced past your front door and kicked off your heels when it began it’s treacherous trill.
“bad time?” the voice on the other end answered, a voice you immediately (and with some chagrin) recognized to be governor eren jaeger. it’s smooth and relaxed, like he’s just ran a glass of whiskey down his throat. your drunken timbre feels clumsy in comparison.
“oh.” you realize aloud, situating yourself at the foot of your bed. “hi, mr. governor.”
“unh-unh. what did i tell you?”
almost giddily, you plunged your head backwards into your plush, messy comforter, your house phone still clutched in your fingers. “eren.” a low hum rumbled through the receiver, as palpable as though your ear was pressed against his chest. this was an unbelievably bad time for you. your body was still mangled with remnants of fun. you were drunk, sprinkled in party glitter, and you had sporadically made out with jean kirschtein, so you were a little horny too.
“that’s better.” this was so incredibly bad for you. eren was so incredibly bad for you. he was even more enticing over the phone, if not more so. you were so stupid, and you were so screwed if you stayed on the phone with him any longer.
but, really, you couldn’t help yourself. “well, eren, how’d you get my number?”
“uh, mikasa, actually. she wrote it in my planner.”
“that sounds like her. are you forgetful like that?” in the background, you heard the almost hypnotizing sounds of ice clink-ing against a glass. somehow, you just knew it was scotch he was drinking, and you couldn’t fight the various mental images that came with that knowing.
eren only chuckled, and you could practically feel the scotch roll down his throat. “oh, she doesn’t do it for me. it’s in case her planner gets caught in a fire or something.”
at that, a clumsy laugh punched from your throat. “can’t tell if you’re funny or if i’m just drunk.”
“which do you think it is?” your dress suddenly began to feel like a thousand pounds of hot fur on your body rather than the skimpy piece of sequins that it was. eren did that to you. and when you left an ecstatic giggle in the form of your answer, he only further egged you on in your flustered state. “what, you think i’m funny? c’mon tell me.”
if he were in front of you at that moment, you would’ve slipped from your dress without a second’s hesitation. how crazy would it be for you to take your dress off while you were on the phone with him? it’s not like he’d see it or anything. but you so desperately wanted him to, and the fact that he wouldn’t made you so fucking crazy. “i think that you’re lots of things, eren.”
“mhm, like what?”
“can’t say. i’m too drunk.” you let your eyes press shut for a bit, trying almost futilely to think of anything that didn’t involve flashing the governor of california. “and, hey, why’d you call me, anyway? not that i mind or anything, but don’t you have, like, an election to win?”
eren breathed a sigh—docile, yet so strangely and dangerously persuasive. “yeah, but…talking to you is a lot more fun.”
“noooo, come on. tell me the real reason.”
“that is the real reason. i swear on it. we actually were supposed to call you at some point and congratulate you on the premiere. just figured i should get around to it now.”
“do you call all your famous actress friends at—” you cut your eyes over to the alarm clock on your bedside table. “—almost one in the morning? i mean, you’re lucky i was coming home from a party, and not dead asleep or something.”
“party, huh?”
“yeah.” you actually couldn’t help the way your thighs pressed together. “still got my dress on and everything.”
“really?” the muffled sound of him shuffling in his seat made you pinch your lip between your teeth.
you giggled, a reaction you’d probably have to start getting used to for as long as you were around him. “yeah.”
“bet you look real pretty.” he thinks i’m pretty. you could’ve moaned at the thought.
suddenly, your voice was a higher, breathier octave. like you were whispering the words in his ears. “are you thinking about what i look like in my dress?”
“why wouldn’t i be?”
you wanted to take it further. you wanted to ask him what he was wearing. you wanted to ask him if you were making him hard, although a part of you knew you were. you wanted to slide your fingers under your panties and let him hear just how bad he was for you.
just as desire began to pool in your belly, so did a sharp pang of guilt. married man, married man, married man. but he had thrown a few compliments your way and you managed to forget all about that.
“eren,” how wrong would it be for you to slide your dress up your legs until it bunched at your waist? “you know we...” if you slipped the straps off your shoulders and let the rest fall from there, what then? “we c—”
“i know, i know.” he cooed, and his voice crawled out of the receiver and laced you with something. you needed him to whisper those words over your ears, or between your lips, or against whatever body part of yours he’d just finished kissing. you needed it so bad you could’ve cried. “i’m sorry.”
you sat upright, feeling immediately more sober than you had all night. “don’t be.”
“let me. let me be sorry, because i am.” the way he spoke to you was so toothachingly sweet, you think you would walk yourself off a cliff if he was talking you through it. “‘m sorry.”
your eyes close, and you were not sure if they were fluttering shut from tiredness or pressing closed from angst. the only thing you were sure of was that this conversation couldn’t possibly continue any longer. “it’s alright. i think i should be getting to bed anyway. i don’t usually stay up this late talking to future presidents.”
eren chuckled. “maybe you should do it more often.”
“maybe i should.”
AUGUST 12, THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
“what the fuck,” was how you answered the phone the following morning. you had fallen asleep with it still tucked against your ear and clutched between your fingers, so you’d felt its ringing in all of its chirruping treachery.
“bad time again?” eren responded, his voice tiptoeing over a laugh.
“extremely.” you sat up in bed and took a chance glance at your bedside clock. the only person who could get a pre-eleven o’clock answer from you on one of your off days was hange. and even they knew that the resulting response was usually so grouchy that they’d be better off not bothering. so it all but bewildered you as to why you’d even let eren stay on the phone long enough to come to this realization. “it’s barely ten.”
“so i gather you’re not a morning person?” eren seemed to be the exact opposite. his voice was as brilliantly ecstatic at ten in the morning as yours would normally be after a shot of tequila. it made you want to swing your curtains open and stand tall in the sun, even with the headache spearing through your skull.
despite the small onslaught of revelations, you answered, “if it wasn’t obvious enough.”
“sooo, i’m assuming this is a really bad time to invite you to dinner with mikasa and i.”
“dinner?”
you’re only briefly surprised at his audacity to ask you to dinner with his wife after the night you two had. but then again, you doubt he would’ve even called you if she hadn’t planted your number in his planner. the realization was an emotional whiplash that wasn’t helped by your hungover state.
“uh, yeah. i meant to ask last night, but i guess i didn’t really get around to it.”
i wonder why, you’d wanted to say, but suppressed the urge with a cough. “oh, well, i—”
“and don’t feel pressured to say yes. i know my wife can be a force.”
his wife. the woman who probably awoke him this morning with a smattering of kisses. the woman who felt his arms wrap around her in the comfort of their bed not two minutes after he’d gotten off the phone with you. the same woman whose eyes were filled with nothing but guilt-inducing kindness when she invited you over for golf that night.
the answer should be a flat no. sorry, eren. i don’t think i can do dinner with you and your wife. partly because i’m very obviously and very, very inappropriately sexually attracted to you. and partly because i think i’m a little jealous of your wife. i haven’t quite unpacked that part yet, but i’m sure here—on the phone with you—is probably the worst place to do it. yeah, uh, bye. so, when you fix your stupid lips to say, “eren, the last thing you could ever do is pressure me. of course i’ll go.” you can only assume it’s for those same reasons.

neytiri and i used to spend our days swinging through the forest like kids, racing through the trees.
“i bet i can find our lunch before you can.” i teased as i jumped on a branch. she lands on another above me and teased me.
“sure,” she answered sarcastically. “i have the bigger bow.” she chuckled.
“and i have the better aim.” i said with a hand on my hip.
“aw, is that what your mother told you?” she laughed. she swings into another branch before i can respond.
we kept going until we heard something yelling.
“what kind of animal screams like that?” i asked her as we landed on the forest floor.
she shrugged. “let’s go find out.”
“fine.. but if we die, it’s your fault.” i muttered to her as i walked past. she stared as i climbed up the tree.
she followed behind and we climbed high enough to see the floor.
when jake, who i didn’t know was jake at the time, came into view, i was scared and excited at the same time.
last time i saw a dreamwalker was when dr. grace was teaching me english when i was just a girl. and we hadn’t seen one since neytiri’s sister was killed.
i signaled for neytiri to come over. i jumped on a higher branch while she lay low, hiding behind leaves.
i kept watching him, a man. a man in clothes and holding a gun. a weapon that scared me more than the man himself.
watching him move, talk to himself, was entertaining. he wobbled around like an infant. i smiled and looked down to see neytiri’s reaction.
but she was fearful of the man. and cautious.
she began to sit up and pulled her bow and arrow ready to shoot.
“neytiri.” i muttered as quietly as i could. she looks up as i shook my head and mouthed “don’t.”
neytiri still had her arrow up and ready to shoot.
she glanced back down at the human and stared at his movements. i watched her curiously.
she was intrigued by him. in a way that made me uncomfortable
she sighed in reluctance and put her weapon away. she climbed up to where i was hidden.
“let my mother know there’s a human among us. i need to see what he is doing here.” she said in a hushed tone as she stood in front of me.
“okay.. what about you? will you be okay?” i asked.
she sighed and cupped my face with both of her hands.
“you always worry about me. i’ll be okay.” she smiled.
“i’m sorry, weren’t you the one who tripped over her own tail on the way here?” i whispered.
“i… ugh, you're wasting time. just go home and tell my mother.” she whispered quickly.
i chuckled softly and let her kiss me. her kisses always made me feel safe.
neytiri was always protective of me. one of her qualities i always appreciated.
she was also brave and loving and so intelligent. she learned english faster than i did and was able to learn more about the sky people.
i couldn’t stay focused. but she’d always be there to help me. well, until she wasn’t.
i replayed the moment she laid eyes on him. i must have missed something. she must have fallen in love with him the moment he appeared in the forest.
their love has always been a mystery to me. i let it go as long as i’ve been gone.
and when she came back, it felt like i was transported to the moment i found out she cheated.
i wondered and pondered about neytiri while cooking with my wife. i shouldn’t be this obsessed with her but i am.
ugh, i blame her.
i started to think about my day instead when ao’nung came home and told me he got into a fight.
with neytiri’s sons no less.
he told me ao’nung and his friends have been picking on her son and daughter. since she married a human, two of her kids ended up having four fingers.
and that led to ao’nung getting into a fight with neteyam and lo’ak.
he said they started it as lo’ak punched him, but i know ao’nung better than that. lo’ak didn’t start the fight by hitting him.
ao’nung started it when he decided to be a bully.
other than that, everything was.. manageable. ronal was here telling me about her training with neytiri and how they both hated every second of it.
“i expected her to be stubborn.” i chuckled as i stirred a pot over a fire in the middle of our home.
“i’m surprised she didn’t give up sooner. she waited until the ilu got tired of her falling off.” ronal chuckled as she chopped up fruits.
she puts them into a bowl and picks up a couple pieces.
“do you know how hard it is to fire out an ilu?” she laughed, putting a piece in my hand.
“leave it up to her to find a way.” i snickered.
she laughed beside me when tsireya and tonowari came in.
“hi, mama.” tsireya smiled.
“hi, my little flower. how was the day for you both? you’ve been gone since morning.” i said to her.
i stood up to look for bowls for us.
“it was nice. i spent time with my friends in the jungle. we must have lost track of time because we didn’t realize it was already eclipse.” she smiled as she sat down next to ronal.
“that’s okay. as long as your safe, i’m glad you had fun.” i chuckled.
“i heard something about a fight between ao’nung and lo’ak. what happened?” she asked.
“oh..” i chuckled.
“your brother was picking on the sully children. and earned a punch to the face.” ronal told her.
“ugh, i can’t believe him. he’s been messing with them since they got here.” she grumbled.
“your brother could learn from your kindness.” tonowari muttered.
i smiled and turned back, handing out bowls to everyone.
“or could learn how to fight.” i muttered back.
tonowari and ronal both glared at me as tsireya giggled.
“i’m sorry, but if he’s going to say stupid things all the time, he will need to know how to defend himself.” i said.
they glance at each other before rolling their eyes.
we ate together, not worrying much about where ao’nung was. once he was finished sulking, he’d come back home.
but when the night turned darker, and more na’vi started turning in, i started to grow concerned.
“maybe we should look for him.” tonowari whispered.
“he’s been out this late before. i’m sure he’s on his way back now.” i told him. he took another look outside, pulling the tarp aside.
he then pulled it aside completely when someone approached our home.
“jake sully.” my back was facing the entrance and my heart froze when i heard wari say that name.
i was able to avoid him these past weeks and he hadn’t come to our doorstep at all.
i glanced back and saw him and neytiri standing there. the moonlight poured into our hut as she stared inside.
i stood up and helped ronal up too before we walked over, reluctantly.
“my kids’ been missing all day. ao’nung said he took him to some place called three brothers rock.“ he said.
“oh no… he’s not safe there.” i said softly.
“what?” jake muttered.
“it’s home to akula. dangerous predators.” tonowari said warningly.
neytiri sighed in fear. “don’t worry. we will help you look for your son.” he said to her.
jake spared one more glance before tonowari walked between us to find his spear.
ronal and i went to do the same as jake and neytiri left.
soon, the entire village was searching the reefs for lo’ak. jake and neytiri were on their ikran and circling the island.
i and a couple other villagers were spread out looking for the boy.
“lo’ak?..” i called out.
my ilu began squealing nervously and thrashing. she was suddenly so nervous and started splashing the water.
“no, no, it’s okay.. relax..” i whispered to her. she wasn’t calming down.
something dimmed the light on the ocean floor. something enormous that also caused my ilu to swim away from it.
it’s a tulkun. it’s fin looked familiar though. i’ve seen them before i just couldn’t remember when. it dived into the water and swam away, causing heavy ripples before i could identify it.
suddenly, lo’ak appeared in the water. he looked like i had caught him doing something he shouldn’t be doing.
“mom?” he asked.
“what? no! no, i’m not your mother. it’s y/n.” i said nervously.
“are you okay? your parents are worried.” i held my hand out to him and helped him climb up to sit on the ilu.
“oh.. yeah, i’m okay. i got lost.” he said.
“okay.” i nodded.
we swam back to the village and i started to calling out for people to let them know lo’ak was safe.
we reached the edge of the pathways and i helped him step up.
“thank you.” he muttered.
“you’re welcome. stay safe, lo’ak.” his gaze fell behind me and he began glaring.
i looked and saw ao’nung with his black eye and pouting lip. he looked down as he stood beside his father.
jake stepped off the saddle of his skimwing, out of the water, and stopped his son before he could go over to ao’nung.
if he was my son, i would have let lo’ak at him.
jake looked at his arms and his back, searching his body for any injuries.
neytiri yelled out for her son and ran down to see him for herself.
she made sure he wasn’t hurt before hissing. “i pray for the strength that i will not pluck the eyeballs out of my youngest son.”
she swipes at his face, to which lo’ak just rolls his eyes like this happened every week.
“no, this isn’t lo’ak’s fault. ao’nung told him to go to three brothers rock. he knows better than to go there.” tonowari grabbed his son by the nape and made him kneel.
“the blame is his.” he said.
i looked to lo’ak and his parents. “thank you, tonowari, but-“
“no, it wasn’t ao’nung’s fault.” lo’ak spoke.
i grew confused.
“it was my idea. he tried to talk me out of it.” he continued.
i tilted my head slightly. i couldn’t understand why he was lying. but then i looked up to jake and neytiri, who were glaring daggers at his head.
that poor boy. i can feel the pressure from here.
“let’s go.” jake takes his son by the nap and walks away, neytiri following behind.
she slowed down as she was about to walk past me.
“thank you for helping him.” she said softly.
“it was nothing.” i shrugged. she nodded and walked away when ronal came up behind me and started glaring.
“you’re being friendly.” she muttered.
i sighed out and turned to face her. “ronal. please. be jealous tomorrow. i’m tired.”
she rolled her eyes but held my hand regardless as we walked back home together.
everyone was shaken up after lo’ak went missing for a whole day. parents were talking, saying the forest children were bad influences on their own children.
as i fell asleep, i reminded myself of the day everything went south.
the night jake became part of the clan, we celebrated. danced, drank, laughed, and had fun.
i wasn’t enjoying myself though. i noticed for the months that jake has been here that neytiri’s been paying much more attention to him than me.
especially tonight. trying to get him to dance and such.
but she’s been spending every single day with him under the excuse that she’s simply training him.
the day when he picked his ikran, she was touching his chest. for a reason i can’t understand.
what does ikran training have to do with touching his chest like that? and then she left to fly with him and i didn’t see her for the rest of the day.
and when i asked about what they did, she yelled at me.
“i don’t need to report to you! let me breathe!” she also slapped my hand off of her shoulder when i tried to be calm.
she tried to apologize that night, but i couldn’t get over how she slapped me like that.
i still had my doubts. maybe she was being friendly. maybe the problem was me and not with jake.
i disproved it all when i woke up and she wasn’t beside me like she was when she fell asleep.
i went to look for her but everyone was gathered at the trunk of hometree. everyone was confused. i tried to look for mo’at to ask her what was happening.
when i asked around me, no one could give me a straight answer. and up front were men and women ready to fight, holding their bows up in the air.
i finally reached the center of the circle everyone has formed.
i walked up behind mo’at and eytukan. tsu’tey was talking to them angrily. something about jake, i couldn’t understand, he was just rambling.
as if we spoke him into existence, him and neytiri walked into hometree. and holding hands.
jake called for tsu’tey, telling him not to do this. i wasn’t sure what “this” was.
i still had no idea what happened to get everyone so angry.
the next thing i know, tsu’tey pushed jake to the ground.
“tsu’tey! stop!” neytiri screamed at him, pushing him back. i watched in shock.
as he huffed resisting neytiri’s pushes, he asked him.
“you mated with this woman?”
and with that, it was like time stopped.
neytiri’s mouth was agape and she pushed tsu’tey back, this time he actually stepped away.
she looked at me as mo’at questioned if it were true or not. i kept glancing between her and jake.
“we..” she sighed out. “we are mated before eywa.”
“it is done.” even then she couldn’t look me in the eye when she actually needed to.
i could feel everyone’s stares on me.
i stomped toward the woman i thought loved me as much as i loved her and grabbed her wrist, dragging her away from everyone.
“y/n stop! listen for a moment.” she argued.
“all this time, you’ve been going behind my back. i knew you were in love with him. but i denied it so many times..”
“y/n, let me explain.”
“no! neytiri, listen to me. this entire time i have listened to your dumb excuses.” i yelled out.
she glared at me like i did something wrong.
“you are the worst woman in this entire planet. just last night, you told me you loved me. that nothing is between you and jake-“
“i know,-“
“and then I found out you.. you mated with him! the fucking human, you cannot be serious! right now, i believe i am crazy because what the fuck.” i screamed and screamed at the top of my lungs.
“what the fuck! neytiri!”
“you’re not crazy! y/n, i never meant for this to happen. i’m sorry. please.” she cried. “he isn’t as bad as you believe..”
“you’re incredible. his kind has done nothing but bring pain and suffering and you want me to believe he isn’t as bad as i think just because you slept together?” i reminded her.
she flinched at my yells.
“they killed sylwanin. they killed my father, they are destroying our home right now. you’re leaving me, and your home, and tsu’tey.. for him?” i asked her.
“i know how it sounds! i know what they did! but i didn’t want tsu’tey and i never wanted to be tsahik! the only thing i was ever sure about was you. until..” she cried.
“i was wrong.. i was wrong and i’m so sorry. i didn’t want it to happen like this..”
we paused. my chest was rising up and down. slowly now that i caught my breath.
“he will only hurt you.” i said, my voice raspy from the screams.
“he will only ever be a burden to you. you’ll never be able to forget who he is. what he is. what his kind has done to us.” i told her.
she glared at me, tears streaming down her face.
neither of us said a thing as we stared at each other painfully.
“you’ll always be reminded of me when you can’t escape his past.”
i heard footsteps behind me.
“y/n… y/n, it’s all my fault. i’m sorry.” his stupid voice rang.
“i’m sorry, but we have to go-“ he rambled but right as he appeared behind me, i struck him in the face, knocking him down.
“fuck you, jake!”
“stop! y/n!” she pulled my shoulder back and dropped to her knees to see how he was.
right then i knew who she really loved. it was me for a while. but it stopped, probably before she even met him.
it was worse because i thought jake and i were friends. i didn’t like him at first, no one did. but neytiri told me to give him a chance.
now i know why she said that.
that was the last time i saw neytiri. i didn’t hear about the war until years later when i joined the metkayina clan.
i lost any anger i felt for jake when i found out he was the new toruk makto. i decided i shouldn’t be angry at him because he fell in love with her. my love.
my problem wasnt even with neytiri for loving him.
but she still lied to me and manipulated me and mated with jake while we were still together.
i realize now i’ve been keeping anger for her ever since i left. i think her returning is a sign from eywa that i need to forgive her.
no, it definitely is.
