This may sound odd but I started queer shipping as almost a reaction or rebellion against shitty straight romances in media. I hated how if there was a guy and a girl on screen together they would always end up together at the end for absolutely no reason. Like, why is there this half-assed romance plot shoehorned into the end of this action movie? It was like it was impossible for them to be friends, their relationship had to be romantic. Oh no, they smiled at each other, time for them to get married and kiss! Let's suffer through this god awful, awkward as hell, sex scene because two members of the opposite sex shared a meal. Guess what, friends can eat food too. I'm tired of shitty romances ruining a great friendship. I was even forced to watch awful rom-coms that had zero chemistry and zero likeability for years and I am so done with this shit.

So anyways, since we live in a world where gay people exist and I'm queer, I decided to apply that hetero logic to characters of the same gender. I felt like, if we can't have a guy and a girl who get along just be friends then we don't get two girls or two guys being friends. I'm just applying what I had been taught for years and consistently shoved down my throat more broadly.

Despite enjoying romance, I still love to see good depictions of friendship in media between all genders and would love to see more. I think we don't see enough deep platonic relationships that feel real, believe, and grounded. Like relationships that are strictly platonic and feel very platonic. For me, devotion and/or spending time doing a group activity isn't enough to make an interesting platonic relationship. I want to see examples of friends having inside jokes, knowing and understanding each other's quirks, I want them to have gone through tough times together and supported each other throughout. I want to see and feel the characters platonic chemistry. Clance & Max as well as Jo & Greta from A League Of Their Own are some standout examples. There are also a lot of platonic relationships dynamics that feel boring and overplayed. Or the individual relationships get drowned out in a group dynamic and just kind of fade away in the background.

For me a lot of shipping is about spite and not necessarily romance. I still enjoy it and have fun but I don't only want that. I do still want to see platonic relationships that feel 100% platonic. If there are romances that have a lot of romantic chemistry, then I want platonic relationships to also have platonic chemistry.

“yeah? you sure you want to?” rafe was fine with you trailing behind him the entire party like a lost puppy, and you were most comfortable doing so, but now you kind of wanted to branch off and actually explore the party. there were some groups of girls chatting that you thought looked nice. maybe you could lounge around the pool. you weren’t thing biggest fan of parties and when rafe told you he was hosting one, you pushed down the weariness creeping in and told him you were excited about it.

rafe saw through it of course. so he tugged you around while chatting with guests and fixing himself a drink.

“i.. i can go and talk to those girls over there” you weren’t sure if rafe still wanted to pull you around no matter if you really liked it.

rafe glanced at the girls you were referring to down below the balcony you two were standing on, then back down at you. those aren’t the type you would talk to. rafe knew you were making an excuse to walk away. rafe sucked his teeth, tilting his head. “i don’t think you would like those girls. i think you like it more being with me”

you gaped at him with wide eyes, not excepting him to shut your idea down. “oh. i do.”

rafe smiled, leaning down to place a peck on your hairline.

“country club!” you both turned to see barry walking up, hand outstretched to dap up rafe. rafe returned the bro hug and barry turned to you, ruffling a hand through your hair. “wassup little rafe” you scrunched up your face in a faux pout. “hi barry.”

rafe fixed the mess for you, smirking at your reaction. he squished your cheeks to fix your pout, poking out his own bottom lip. “aw, barry messed up your hair?” you nodded, a little smile forming at his cooing.

“let me go talk to him, that wasn’t cool, huh?”

“mm mm” you shook your head definitively. rate let you go, turning to talk to barry about other matters, not really about your hair. he knew you weren’t actually upset, you and barry already having that poking-fun dynamic. you knew that was just rafe saying he was going to talk with barry about things you didn’t have to hear.

you went to sit on the sofa, observing the commotion below. twiddling your fingers, you thought this was a perfect time to go wander. maybe not with those girls who now looked to be whispering and pointing around at other girls, giggling at their looks. icky. you turned your gaze over to the entrance that led back into the house from the balcony.

the noise was starting to get a little overwhelming. the more so quiet inside seemed tempting. and temped you were, getting up and walking inside, the boys unaware of your fleeting presence. the music got quieter the further you walked into the house. that’s better. there was no one else here, everyone crowded outside.

you walked to rafe’s room, looking around. maybe you could tidy up a little for him? you picked up little scattered items, putting them back in their places. you headed over to his closet, browsing through his shirts. replacing what you currently had on with one of them, you sighed in content. even better. you felt good enough that you gave the party a try. anything rafe was happy about, you were over the moon for. and the same went for him. but settling down in his bed now looked appealing.

you spent a few minutes mindlessly entertaining yourself with fiddling with rafe’s duvet and pillows. so soft. the sudden sound of thumping through the house grabbed your attention. maybe someone was looking for the bathroom. you shrugged, having closed the bedroom door when you came in, assuming they wouldn’t wander in.

but when the door burst open, you startled, letting out a little squeak, but turning to see rafe standing at the threshold.

“oh. hi rafe” you gave him a little wave.

his gaze skimmed the room, then trailed over you, noticing the shirt you were in and that you were safe and sound in his room. he let out the breath he was holding, moving from the door over to you. you swung your legs over the side of the bed, kicking your feet a little, giddy to see rafe again. rafe came to kneel between your legs, grasping your waist. “hi, baby. why didn’t you let me know you were coming in here?”

you stopped your swinging feet. “oh um.. you were talking with barry.. i wanted to give you guys a little space.”

rafe licked his lips, letting out a little sigh. he hands rubbed up and down your sides. “i didn’t like not knowing where you were.. i’m not upset” he quickly grabbed the sides of your head at the sight of your forming pout. “just let me know next time, kid, i don’t wanna have to worry.”

who knows rafe thought. he had hoped you didn’t wander off to talk to those girls he told you not to, not sure if you somehow managed to hurt yourself from bumping into sharp corners throughout the house.

you shook your head in a nod, “’m sorry rafe. it was just quiet in here..” you voice trailed off, becoming softer.

“you want it quiet? i’ll shut this down and kick everyone out.”

“no! you’re having fun, go back” you slightly pushed at his chest, not budging him. this is what you didn’t want. your desire to trail off to affect rafe having a good time.

“just say the words.. i don’t really like these people anyway. i like you more” rafe poked your tummy with his finger, causing you to have a fit of giggles.

“no, ’m okay. go, go” you returned a peck to his hairline from the one he gave you earlier.

Every time someone gets angry that neurodivergent people headcanon Tommy as autistic (you don't want to know what people called me on twt for making autistic Tommy posts ...), they bring out all the stereotypical aspects of autism which Tommy apparently doesn't show in their opinion and say: "he's just rude / an asshole". That's so ironic. Because that's the thing: Autism is a spectrum and just because you experience some aspects of one part of this broad spectrum doesn't mean that YOU get to say what autism has to look like for every other autistic person. YOU don't define autism for me. A lot of people say Eddie is autistic. I don't see it. But I would never start to judge people who headcanon him as autistic. For me, personally, Tommy has more autistic traits I relate to. Because do you know who was also called "rude"? Me. I was also called "indifferent", "selfish", "egocentric", "weird", etc. because of my autistic traits. And come on. No one, really no one, has ever tried to excuse Tommy's past behaviour by headcanoning him as autistic. We just relate to some aspects of his personality. And we are allowed to do so. Neurodivergent people should never judge or shame fellow neurodivergent people for relating to a fictional character or headcanoning them as autistic. What harm does it do? (That's right. None. All of this is just part of your stupid ship war.) Autism is a spectrum. If you know an autistic person, you know ONE autistic person. So if they relate to someone you don't, there's going to be a reason for that ... Be mindful and manage to see past your hatred for the fictional character. These are some traits that can be part of the autism spectrum which I experience and recognise in Tommy: - fidgeting and stimming (Tommy fidgets a lot. Like. It just. Shifts all of the dynamics and especially Bruce's character, but it still is so wonderfully cohesive!

Let's start with Damian.

Bruce is in his mid-twenties, going strong and building a rapport as Gotham's protector when, one day, Talia al Ghul rings on his doorbell with a tiny 7/8 yrs old shadow. It's their son she says. His heir and apprentice, the shadow, Damian, says.

Damian is well trained, as stubborn as his parents and determined to follow his father's footsteps, so Batman gains a Sidekick. A sneaky little thing that seems as much as a mythical creature as its mentor.

After some time, a new kid falls into Batman's path. Duke is bright and righteous, and if Batman didn't decide to train him, he would lead his tiny gang of determined children right into the thick of it without being able to make it through. So Batman trains him, even though Duke returns to his home at the end of the day.

There comes a time when Damian is restless. He wants to train with different masters, go on missions with his team, and make sure that one day he is worthy of being Batman's successor. So he leaves the cave and Batman without a sidekick.

That is until Bruce stumbles over a tiny stalker with absent Parents, who knows their identities. Tim is quick to learn and just as sneaky as Damian and while Damian is proud of his ability to match batman in a fight, he hates that this new kid seems to match Batman's abilities as a detective, even surpass them. Until Tim Drake, Heir to Drake Industries, gets an assassin send after him, and kills him in a frantic fight for survival. He crossed a line. The line. So Bruce sends him home.

Then the Joker decides that this little detective is just so fun, not as stuck up as old Batsy and wouldn't he like to be Jokers sidekick instead? No? What a shame. Especially as his parents just so happened to be in. A bit of a pickle. You see it was easy to kidnap them on their way back from the airport and are you sure you don't want to join the Joker? A well, have FUN at your little family reunion then.

Tim dies laughing against his will.

A few months later, Batman gets hit by a brick in the back while punching a purse snatcher black and blue. Steph is angry. Angry that her father rots in jail. That she wasn't fast enough to safe her mother. That Batman almost killed a guy who was just trying to survive. Angry that Batman is dishonoring Tim in such a way. Her friend would hate to see what his mentor - dad. Almost- became, so she decides that she will make sure Batman stays in line.

She is at his side for almost 4 months, bothering him with a sharp tongue and burning criticism, keeping him upright and most important, himself. Then Batman finds out she's pregnant. He benches her. Of course. She hates it. She hates that she can't argue against it. That it makes sense. That she can't help people anymore and be in the thick of it. Can't keep her Baby and her role as a protector of Gotham. Her family is understanding. They all know the itching under your skin. The burning need to go out at night. So they try to help her. Alfred is the one to suggest turning her focus to the Wayne side of their life's. To use her knowledge of the streets and poor parts of Gotham to help the money flow to where it's needed. She grumbles. But takes the opportunity.

Jason's story stays almost the same. What else is there to do than be a ballsy little kid in the face of Batman. Than to bare his teeth in the face of danger. He's only supposed to stay at the manor for a few days. Until the system could find a better, long term place for him. In the matter of hours Steph and Jason become inseparable. He looks at her like she hung the stars and she regales him with greatly exaggerated stories of her time as Batman's sidekick. They all know that Jason isn't going anywhere after that and Batman needed a new sidekick anyways. (Jason takes his, from Steph appointed, "Batman Wrangler" Job *very* seriously)

Several years later, there's a new player on the field. Cold calculated and able to stay three steps ahead of Batman. The Joker dies. The head is mailed to Wayne Enterprise. A gift, the card says, from Drake Industries. A promise, a threat, for flourishing business relationships. The Joker is dead. And Tim Drake has returned. (Deep deep down in the shadows of Gotham a court of Owls welcomes their newest member. They're like spun sugar, wrapped around his finger)

Darkseid happens. There's a letter addressed to Damian Wayne. A letter telling him that Bruce isn't dead. There's only one person who could have the resources to prove that claim. Prove that the research and theories are indeed fact. So Damian faces his heritage.

When he returns from the League, it's with Bruce Wayne and a shadow. A tiny girl named Cassandra. It takes some time for him to notice, but he wasn't raised by the Bat himself to be unaware of his surroundings. So Damian helps. He sees himself in Cass, a warped and distorted "what could have been". If he wasn't the heir to both the Demon and the Bat. If his parents were just a bit more cruel.

After everything it all ends how it originally began. A visit to the circus. A daring show of skills. A snapped line. And an orphan. Dick Grayson joins the Batfamily, the Waynes last. Hurt, angry and demanding revenge for his family. They all know what it feels like. They all know how to deal with a tiny child with big emotions. He stays. He is loved. And with some time he's no longer angry. You can't be angry when you're an uncle afterall.

Think about it. We know very little about him, next to nothing really (which would give the fanfiction writer a lot of creative freedom). But the few key elements we DO know about him? They would make this transmigration match KRS a lot better than Robbit.

First of all, Robbit gets married within the 2 years since Cale transmigrates. While it's possible he only met his fiancee/wife AFTER the transmigration event happened, it would be better if KRS had no potential romantic partner to worry about. I mean, imagine if your boyfriend's/fiancee's soul suddenly got swapped and it looked like he suddenly stopped loving you. That would suck for that poor woman.

Secondly, if we take into account that Alberu is 23 at the start of the story, and he is the oldest of the three brothers... and also Zed did not have his other kids before Alberu's mom died... That means there is NO WAY that the 3rd Prince is anything older than 18. He's definitely a teenager, regarless if Robbit is one or not. In other words, with a younger body as a start, KRS would have to worry a lot less about "character development" for his new "prince" personna to fit his own interests.

Furthermore! In canon, it was often said that the 3rd Prince was the son of the queen and Zed's "favored son". That makes it for a LOT of interesting dynamics, especially with how KRS would use this position to his advantage - to flip the whole thing around, that is! Just imagine him playing the "nice kid prince" to his "allies" with a sweet smile (one of the allied families includes the STANS by the way, even more potential for drama!), who are all greedy aristocrats supporting a literal TEENAGE BRAT against his brilliant oldest brother of an heir - likely to become their own pupper ruler later on - while KRS inwardly plots to smack them all in the back and make them Alberu's subordinates.... without them having a clue how that happened in the aftermath. So much fun political drama just waiting to be explored!

Not to mention the bond between the brothers! Robbit as well! The age gap between 3rd Prince and Alberu would also make for a quite interesting dynamic too. I mean, there is no way Alberu actually knew his spoiled youngest brother all that well. He stayed away from him as far as possible, I'm sure. So with 3rd Prince!KRS suddenly barging into his life proclaiming that he would make him the king because he wants to be a slacker?? Alberu's befuddlement would be utterly hilarious. Much funnier than if it was Robbit, I think. I don't think Robbit was ever considered that much of a rival to Alberu in comparison to the 3rd Prince.

All of those things make the 3rd Prince a MUCH better person to have KRS transmigrate as. That's what I think, at least. What about you?

Think about all the drama we can get from him trying to get on Alberu's good side! Think about how he will get involved with the Hunter plot much sooner due to being closer to King Zed!

Think about if he get transmigrated into [Robbit Crossman]’s much sooner, hence actually manages to form a good relationship with [Alberu Crossman] from the start! Think about him having [Choi Han] who is physically older than him follow him around like a lost puppy! Think about him raising the [Black Dragon] from the start! Think about him interacting with a younger [Cale Henituse]!

early to bed and early to rise. usually starts winding down around 8pm and is asleep by 9. he'll wake up between the hours of 6 and 7, and is unfortunately that roommate that will start his day loudly— blending smoothies, putting away dishes, singing to himself as he roams the house

appreciates and tries to keep a tidy home, but can easily let his clutter stack. it's a neat and relatively organized type of clutter, mind you, but it piles up— books will gather on tables, mail will be neatly stacked but not gone through. recyclables like empty peanut butter jars and food cans will sit by the sink before they're tossed because he's going to properly rinse them out first, just not right now. tomorrow is better for him

he fronts all of the rent, but will have jimmy at least pitch in for utilities and take care of things like lawn care and snow removal. he really doesn't mind, he was paying the same amount before he moved in anyway, and it's nice having someone else around. makes the place feel a bit less lonely, and he likes being able to keep an eye on jimmy. just in case

night owl. usually heads to bed between the hours of 3 and 5am, and will wake up around noon, granted curly doesn't wake him up first. curly will always have a pot of coffee waiting for him when he finally does get out of bed, which he'll finish in the span of 30 minutes and still feel tired. rinses his dishes afterwards but doesn't wash them, figures curly will eventually get around to it

makes himself scarce, often holing up in his bedroom and only really leaving to go to the bathroom. what little belongings he has are in there, so its the only place in the house that really feels like his own. he doesn't own any furniture or decor, that's all curly's, but he does have a PS2 that the other convinced him to keep in the living room, so he'll sometimes hang out in there. he knows it makes curly happy to see him out of his room, at least

admittedly likes the structure living with curly adds to his life. couchsurfed between multiple trap houses throughout the years with no real schedule or routine. knowing he doesn't have to keep his head on a swivel or worry about how he's going to get his next meal takes a load off his shoulders that he didn't realize he was carrying

legoshi in a throuple

even though i highly doubt legoshi is the type of guy to share his significant other, especially with his jealous streak, it’s fun to think about your dynamics in these throuples. 

legoshi + louis 

— out of all the couples here save the last one, this is the most likely pairing to work out. legoshi and louis are quite alike in fundamental ways, and legoshi has the patience to deal with louis' mood swings. louis on the other hand encourages legoshi to let his inner beast out at times.

— the one qualm to this pairing is that both men are incredibly stubborn. legoshi is more likely to cave and adjust his behavior, while louis struggles to not let his perfectionist tendencies and need for control push away those he cares for.

— you definitely are the odd one out since louis and legoshi have history. they also have a terrible habit of trying to keep you safe and away from their business, whilst also being incredibly uncommunicative about their motives.

— legoshi does not even want to share you. he doesn't trust riz at all. doesn't want you near him. 

— the aftermath of tem’s death has left a bad taste in his mouth regarding him. and part of him is genuinely confused as to why?? you like riz?? unfortunately he turns that confusion inwards and starts to doubt why you even like him. is he just a placeholder? is it because riz is stronger, better, more in tune with his nature? self-doubt festers in this pairing.

— in a soulmate au where your soulmate is born with the same tattoo as you, legoshi is less than pleased to see that riz has the other half to his tattoo, the half that completes the picture and mirrors the one on your forearm. if he could, he would rip the damn bear’s arm off. 

— rating: 1/10

legoshi + bill

— the thing is, legoshi can’t trust bill. he knows bill likes to indulge in herbivore blood.

— but unlike riz, legoshi finds bill unlikable for a total other reason—he’s a total fuckboy. legoshi is a romantic, and the way bill has casual dalliances with other animals doesn't make any sense to him.

— bill will do things like come onto you aggressively, grope you and slap your ass in public, and it makes legoshi seethe. 

— the only way this coupling would work is if you were really into bill. legoshi will try his best to be civil (bill won’t--he loves to stir the pot), but he does prefer having separate dates. he also tries his best to erase the feline stench of him on you when possible. 

— rating: 4/10

legoshi + jack

— another great couple. jack and legoshi have natural rapport as childhood friends and fellow canines. unlike the other throuples here, where legoshi and the reader are most likely gonna have to get together first, you’re either with jack first and legoshi does a poor job of hiding his gigantic crush, or jack encourages legoshi that both of them should pursue you. 

— jack is an affable guy. whenever legoshi’s moody, he manages to pull him out of it. his positively is absolutely infectious. 

— the healthiest couple out of all of these. jack is a great grounding presence. the only thing is, legoshi once again starts comparing himself to jack and wondering if you like him better, especially if you two have more history.

also, that’s not an insult to right brained/artistic ppl, I’m one of them (if you couldn’t tell lol)! i’ve been perceived as dumb(er than others) because I’m so driven by creativity, english and the arts (NOT scientific or mathematical at all). It's only once someone gets to know me better, that they learn how intelligent I am. right brain thinkers are more likely to be dismissed or overlooked, imo!

someone like luigi may not have been too surrounded by many right brain thinkers let alone dated them, and he would be so curious about what goes on in your mind.

obviously, you do develop a relationship and the dynamic would be adorable. you balance each other out! there may be some minor situations and misunderstandings where his strict, logical, rational self isn’t sure where you’re coming from; but he always listens to you explain your POV, and does come around to understand it. he’s very open minded, esp when it comes to you!

he loves your brain. i mean, he’s so fascinated by it. you find art, beauty, creativity and meaning in things that he could’ve never perceived in such a way. both of your brains work in different ways that are both so important.

whether you come to him about a situation all pouty, or do the opposite, acting stubborn and silent about it until he picks up on your mood shift, coming over to help you.. he’ll have a solution. he’d drop anything to brainstorm a way to help you solve your problems. for luigi, because of his logical problem solving, the solution is usually simple for him to come up with. but then you’re standing there with stars in your eyes like ‘wow luigi😍❤️ i would’ve never come up with that🤩 thank you so much😩’ and he’s just there, giddy, bc you make him feel so smart and useful. he’s so happy when he can help you in any way.

there will probably be a lot of funny moments trying to make decisions together. you might want to decide based on gut feeling, or your emotions, but he’ll be so analytical; thinking of every detail. for example, buying furniture together. you might be like “omg! this couch is such a cute colour, matches the vibe of our apartment and it feels so soft!” and luigi would be like “uhm… yeah! cute! but… (pulls out tape measure) it isn’t the correct dimensions, the fabric isn’t stain resistant, the cushion covers aren’t removable, and it isn’t well reviewed online….😅🥸”

if he’s not with you, he’ll take photos of things he sees while out-and-about, maybe exploring, and send them to you. or!!! when he comes home, he’ll be all excited to show you stuff he took pictures of, wondering what your perspective on it would be, how you would interpret it. he’ll go through the pictures with you and just listen to you gush over something artsy or interpretive, like if he saw graffiti he thought you’d find cool, a quote from a book or painting at a museum. idk!

if he goes book shopping for his own yk NON fiction books, he’ll always come back with a book or two for you. he’ll get home, probably make some sort of joke like “i just chose the book that had the most colourful cover”, when in reality he spent time at the bookstore looking through the books, reading so many back covers to choose one that he knows you’ll genuinely enjoy. or, he’ll just buy a book he remembers you mentioning you wanted in passing. even if he wouldn’t enjoy reading it, he enjoys knowing it brings you joy. and if you talk to him about a book you’re reading/read, he’ll listen as if it’s his favourite genre.

me personally, idk if it’s the eldest daughter in me, but i LOVE being taken care of + i think he’d enjoy feeling helpful. like if i was drawing on an app on my ipad and it crashed or something, i’d go running to him for help.. with anything technology related (even if i had an idea of how i could fix it myself) like heyyy my lil compsci problem solver.. help pls😇

overall, i think this dynamic is so sweet as long as you can both embrace each others differences and find that harmony. he would add more structure to your life while appreciating your perspective, and you’d add more spontaneity, empathy & creativity to his!

also idk if i touched enough on this, but this dynamic is literally a humanitarian power couple. like fighting for what’s right, with his brain and your heart!! best of both worlds for a well rounded perspective!! mwhahaha

2024: Year in Review

Thanks for the tag @calaisreno! Your review got me thinking a lot about my writing this year.

As my kids are getting older, I am having trouble finding free time for myself. Because of that, 2024 had much less writing than years prior. Reading fic too, for that matter, but I hope to start getting through my massive MFL list soon!

In total, I posted just over 41,000 words over 3 stories. But, the time limitations also forced me to write things differently and take on new challenges. When May came along, I was itching to write something, so decided to try to base a story around short bits built around @calaisreno's May prompts. It definitely scratched the itch and I managed to post something every day! The resulting story was Open Your Eyes (T, Words = 17,073 over 31 chapters). Although the story could absolutely use a good edit, I think it hangs together pretty well given how it was written. I absolutely loved writing Rosie in this one, although I admit my fave chapters are the Mycroft POVs.

I participated in FTH 2024 knowing that it would help "force" me to write. And, luckily, my top bidder (72reasons) gave me a prompt that forced me out of my comfort zone again. For the first time ever, I posted an alternative first meeting, although I didn't quite manage to take it entirely out of canon. That story is Meet Ugly (T, Words = 9,766 over 5 chapters) and I had a lot of fun writing it. I am most pleased by comments that people find parts funny, because I admit I worked at that!

And then it was back to my bread and butter for my second FTH fic. To be honest, the timing was perfect. After writing a couple of stories that deviated from my usual style, I was pretty eager to write a more traditional case fic. But, I knew time wasn't on my side and forced myself to try to keep the fic shorter than usual. My goal was 10k and it ended up at 14,522, which isn't so far off ;). That fic is The Red-Headed League (T, 5 chapters), my update on the ACD story. I tried to think of an alternative update to the title, but couldn't think of anything that had the same "feel". I really appreciate all the love this one is getting. I like it, but the shorter length did create some challenges. I like the case part and I like the Rosie/Fam b-plot, but I don't think they are well integrated as in my other case fics (ie., I don't think it would be that difficult to pull them apart into two stories). I think part of what makes ACD short stories so great is how much plot (and relationship dynamics) is in so few words. But, I suppose ACD never worried about getting our protagonists together and that is a 100% requirement for my stories!

I am not sure what I'll tackle next. I have a few partly finished AUs, but I seem to have trouble bringing those to fruition (the amount of research needed seems insurmountable at times). Who knows though!

This ended up being pretty long, especially considering I started this post by saying I didn't have much time to write ... my gratitude to anyone whose made it to the end 💖💖💖💖💖!

2024: Year in Review

This year I posted 14 stories, fewer than any other year, but my word count still hovers around 300k, as it has for several years.

This was my first year writing for Fandom Trumps Hate. My story, written for the very generous and lovely @LHRinchelsea, was The Disappointed Optimist's Guide to Sharing a Flat with a Madman. It was so rewarding to participate that I plan to offer a story again this year.

My favorite story I've written this year is Déjà Vu, a closing chapter for the Off Axis series. I may write more for that series, but this one is a story that brought a lot of closure for our heroes and their friends.

My second favorite: This is Family, a fill-in story for The Final Problem (S4Ep3). I combined this into a series with People We Love, an aftermath story I wrote in 2023. "Solving" The Final Problem was a very satisfying endeavour.

I had great fun writing my first Harry-centric story in October, When Harry Met Mary.

I'm closing the year with a parallel story for When We Were Young. My Heart at Your Door will finish posting in January 2025.

This was my second year doing the May Prompts event. In 2023 there were only a few of us, but this past year, it took off in a big way. I think I was tagging over 30 people with the daily prompt! As always, it was a lot of fun. This year we had a number of people writing daily limericks, an activity that has continued for the rest of 2024, and I hope will still be going strong in 2025. Thank you @Friday411 for inspiring that!

My number one project for 2025 is The Secret of Agra, a fic that I've been writing since 2020. I've called it a White Whale, but it might be more of a Frankenstein. 😆 It is finally coming together, though, and I hope to post in 2025.

I don't have any other specific writing goals for 2025. I have quite a happy writing groove, and many WIP that I hope to complete.

I wanna draw something with all the younger characters of overwatch, like, Illari, Juno, D.va, Hazard, Brigitte, Venture, Junkrat and Lucio, bc I think they all would have fun dynamics, Venture, D.va and Junkrat would be the autistic kids talking bout their hiperfixations (Juno is trying to participate in the conversation but gets awkward really quickly so she just ends up sitting there in silence with ROADHOG who is also there in mute bc he goes wherever his boyfriend goes and everyone there accepted him as a extension of Junkrat) Brigitte, Illari and Hazard would be the ones having like- a more "level-headed" conversations (Until they all get stoned and both of them start trauma dumping on poor Brigitte and saying stupid shit) and Lucio is chatting with everyone, going back and forth between them, putting on his playlist and making sure everyone is having a good time bc he's chill like that.

But I'm too lazy, so I'll just throw this headcanons here and if someone wanna share more fun headcanons I'm all ears (Might even draw it if I like it)

Let me start by saying that I adore your meta. It's some of the most thorough, well-reasoned hp analysis I've come across & you have a talent for tenderly mining and polishing canon connections I've never considered. You've put into words so many of my feelings about drarry, hinny, and the characters as a whole -- why I love them, why I struggle with them, and why they still compel me after all these years. I'm slowly chipping away at your blog and won't stop until I get to page 1 I've found myself very taken with the Slytherins lately--especially characters like Millicent and Daphne, who are either offhand names or caricatures, as well as some of the older Slytherins we see mentioned, who seem to stay largely out of the war (or at least aren't important enough to it for a mention). There are a lot of widely accepted fanon personalities/interpersonal dynamics for the Slytherins, and they're always fun to delve into. But I often find myself struggling to separate canon from fanon. Do you have any thoughts on what we can extrapolate about the Slytherins in canon (apart from "mean, ugly, & stupid/vapid" as jkr describes nearly every Slytherin but Draco)? And if not, do you have any blogs/posts to recommend on the topic?

Wow. What can I even say. I've been staring at this ask since I received it feeling so warmed by your words. Thank you very much for such high compliments. It always thrills me to hear that people get some enjoyment/mental stimulation out of this blog and that my little ramblings are of interest to others.

To some extent, since the other Slytherins aren't that well developed (due to the fact that Harry was too busy constantly staring at Draco to notice anything about them - I mean he literally doesn't even know Theodore Nott's NAME till he sees him spending more time with Draco) there's a lot of room for people to come up with their own interpretations of their personalities.

That said, there is some info in canon we can go off of. For example, we see Pansy hanging out with Draco a lot more than Millicent or Daphne. We also know that none of their parents were Death Eaters. And given that Millicent and Daphne seem to stay away from Draco more later, maybe their families aren't quite as into the whole blood purist stuff as Pansy and her family are. Especially Daphne does not seem to really participate in any of the bullying we see a lot of the Slytherins take part in.

Personally, I always headcannoned that Daphne never liked Draco very much and that while she did hold some anti-muggle and anti-muggleborn biases (similar to those held by most of the wizarding world), her attitudes were more on the level of those held by Fudge or Crouch and she never actually went in for any of the extremist blood purist beliefs or supported the Death Eaters or even had attitudes as extreme as Walburga Black (who thought the Death Eaters mostly had the right idea even if they went about it the wrong way). I also think she didn't much like the pettier behaviors Draco engaged in - the boasting, the bullying, the mockery, not to mention the weird Potter obsession - (or that the people Draco hung out with engaged in). I think she probably found him stuck up and arrogant and vaguely unsavory and tended to avoid him, even if she wasn't as horrified or enraged by him using slurs like Mudblood as someone like Ron or Harry would be.

I like the idea that after the war she and her sister changed their minds about their beliefs about muggles and muggleborns - even if they were never quite as extreme to begin with as those held by some. I headcanon that they two of them were both back at Hogwarts during Draco's 8th year - and that they actually ended up striking up a friendship - once the realized that he'd changed. After all, they were housemates for years. Plus they ran in similar social circles. And they all changed their minds, so that's a common bond. Daphne tells Draco point blank that she always thought he was a stuck up twat and Draco agrees that he was, which breaks the ice.

As for Pansy, I actually think she was more of a hanger on than a true friend. I thinks he and Draco drifted apart in 7th year. I don't especially like characterizations that whitewash the bad things she did - either the bullying or the bigotry or the "rying to hand harry in to Voldemort thing - or that turn her into some ooc mary sue girlboss with no personality other than being a genius who is great at everything and also getting to be mean with no consequences because she's so cool so no one cares I guess. That's not to say I don't enjoy fics with Draco/Pansy friendship if it's done right. But yeah, based on actual canon I see her moving on to the next person once Draco's fortunes were shown to have irrevocably fallen by book 7. Plus it's arguable that she always expected to marry Draco since he was the best match (thru book 6 anyway) but that she always secretly harbored feelings for Blaise. And after the war she got to act on that. After all, in the train scene in book 6 she seems awfully interested in what girls Blaise likes.

For Millicent we have even less. We know she was a bully. I don't like seeing that ignored or seeing her girlbossified. I do like the idea of her going thru her own little redemption arc and trying to make something of herself. I also imagine that she and Draco kind of drifted apart though. I think she ever became a completely nice person, but I like the idea of her apologizing to Hermione and them ending up at the Ministry together and kind of tolerating each other - just one of the many instances of strange, uncomfortable relationships that pop up in the post-war wizarding society as it tries to put itself together.

As for Crabbe & Goyle, I really hate how often fandom seems to forget or gloss over the fact that both of them were actively participating in torturing other students and seemingly very into it. I think the way Draco treated them - as henchmen/servants - always grated on them but they accepted it due to the relative statuses of their families. When the power dynamic between them shifts though, starting book 6 but really post book 6, they seem to revel in Draco's degradation and fall from grace (and we even see hints of that earlier, like them laughing when Draco gets beaten up by Harry in book 5 and not intervening). I find that super fascinating, and I think they are darker, more twisted characters than people tend to give them credit for. Given all this, I don't see Draco and Goyle staying friends post war and I never get why Goyle having been an enthusiastic participant in the Death Eaters' crimes (in a way that Draco never was) so often gets forgotten. Usually post war he gets reduced to a simple minded sad boi who Draco needs to look after. And I'm just like ??? Where?? Especially given that the alternative provides so much more interesting story fodder.

However you met one of them; Moribble’s magic seminars, an audience with the Wizard, or just Moribble happening upon you (because the wonderful wizard of oz seldom leaves his palace) whether unintentionally or not, you’d definitely grab their attention. Of course, it’d start very small. If you attended Shiz, Moribble would just constantly seek you out.

“You have great magical potential,” or so she says. Things like her hand lingering to long on your back or waist, finding any excuse to hold your hand, her gaze remaining on you a little too long. All traits of a attentive teacher, surely?

When she gets you an audience with the wizard, things would go from there. You might be scared, intimidated, or even excited. She insists on going on the train with you, although she’s not a fan of mingling with the public. When you meet the wizard, it again, starts very normal. He’s very charming and flirtatious, holding your hand and calling you pet-names. If you were sufficiently charmed by this, they’d get you to stay in the palace for awhile.

“If you loved the Emerald City, your gonna love it here.” And, perhaps he’s right.

The more you stay with them, the more you observe their dynamic. Before they talk to someone, they whisper to each-other a little, perhaps rehearsing what to say. You notice everytime the wizard does/says something he glances at Moribble. The way he holds her hand, occasionally.

Moribble, being graceful, serious, and reserved, would be more relaxed about it. She doesn’t seem like an extremely affectionate person, so she would settle with little kisses on the cheek and hands on your waist, back, etc. She likes to hold hands, she doesn’t mine that. When she’s excited, she might reach for your hand or briefly wrap her arms around you. She likes giving positive affirmations, and definitely into praise and encouragement.

Oscar is more affable and charismatic, and a lot more touchy. Holding your waist, hand, wrapping his arm around your shoulder.. really, he can’t keep his hands to himself. If you like it, he’ll touch you all the time. He’d get a little jealous if you spent too much time with Moribble, because he might feel neglected. He would feel slightly intimidated if you were actually magical, especially if you knew he was not magical himself. Now, instead of one powerful person he has to listen too, theres another. Just like he gifts Moribble jewelry, he would gift you things, too, whatever you wanted.

I think the confession would be.. well, as self assured as Oscar seems, I think he is a little afraid of being rejected. Moribble, on the contrary, knows theres just no way you’ll deny her. I don’t think they would explicitly state they wanna share you.. but it’s obvious. There’s strong undercurrents of desire whenever Oscar touches you, or when Moribble looks at you. To actually confess, they might praise you to start, say how amazing and wonderful you are. They’d sneak in some touching, of course, a hand around your waist or holding your hand. The first kiss(es) would be fun, I imagine. Moribble would kiss you first, very lightly, and then the wizard would kiss you.

Since they stay in completely separate places, you can probably alternate between who you stay with. If you stay at the royal palace of Oz, Moribble would visit more often, especially when the Shiz semester ends. If you stay with Moribble at Shiz, you two would travel to the Emerald City to visit the Wizard. Sometimes he might visit you two at Shiz, but not often, because I think he’s nervous outside of his palace and the Emerald City.
