this is interesting because like yes. marc got the massive brunt of homophobic comments directed his way in the wake of sepang because he was younger and twinkier at the time and he was the one painted as both instigator and villian in many ways (esp in italy). but. it’s not like vale didn’t also get a lot of that same flavor of nasty pointed at him when he was younger for being somewhat androgynous and wearing his little earring and dying his hair and carting his boybestfriend uccio around with him everywhere. prejudice ironically does not discriminate. frankly there’s more value uccio gay rumors floating around from the late 2000s then marc throwing ass at the gay club ones from 2015. not that this is a motorcycle racers facing veiled homophobia competition lmao.

but i also think they are both people who fundamentally don’t feel a lot of shame for being their weird little gay selves. vale never stopped wearing the earring or hanging with uccio, and marc is still doing homosexual pole dances to the public on national television basically biweekly at this point… they are people pleasers yes, but they also have a lot of integrity of self. they enjoy being liked, but on their own terms… and i also really truly do think it’s a LOT easier for them because they have a buddy in all this. someone to divert the tension… someone who ALSO has the insane goat credentials and can essentially silence any “can they perform on track” questions… so ultimately i think it’s another factor in the rosquez PR team up that dominates the fic where they’re being aggressively charming at the world writ large here��� AND dorna would have incentive to help so i think it’s a lot of silly ass pr vids on the motogp instagram and stuff. rosquez plays the newlywed game and is alarmingly competitive about it. marc is trying to cheat. etc.

I feel like Orlox is quite underappreciated. If you count the shit he went though the first season alone, him killing Richters mother doesn't really make him that much of a villian. He probably is going to get enough beat downs from Erzabeth that he is going to be redeemed 10 times over, considering how she treats him as a pet and probably will do it again and again. I like anything that has to do with snakes, and considering that he literally turns into snake looking quetzalcoatl is even better. I just hope he won't loose another lover. There is already enough stress on the poor man. Protect him~

PROTECT HIM!!! Also you're so right, I don't even see him as much of a villain? He became an antihero for me, I'm such an apologist for him I'm not that mad about him killing Richter's mom lmao. I think their interactions and possibly having to work together more in the future is going to be super interesting.

The fact that Erzebet and Drolta had the absolute GALL to look at an Aztec/Mexica vampire who lived through the genocide and colonization of his people by the spanish, and try and sell them on their plan by telling him that he'd be their "guide to conquering the americas" and "we'll make a new world". LIKE?? It's almost funny the disconnect they have, and and how Olrox just lets them talk and assume what they want about him.

Olrox has more reason to kill Erzebet then anyone else in the series. It speaks so much to his character that he had so much cool control over his emotions with her and Drolta. That the most emotional we see him act is when Mizrak is threatened.

He's seen the spanish kill millions of his people. He lost his true love to a vampire hunter. You can tell that staying cool and analytical is a skill he's developed to survive. Waiting, observing, staying safe in the shadows. But then Mizrak shows up, reminds him of his lost love, and Olrox can't relive losing him again.

I absolutely adore characters (especially villainous or morally grey ones) whose greatest weakness/soft spot is love. I also love how he parallel's Dracula from the original show that way, and really like how we start off thinking he's going to be the Big Bad of the series, but he ends up being so sympathetic and having his goals align with our heroes.

I'm so scared of Erzebet knowing now that Olrox betrayed her to save Mizrak. If that happens and he gets put in danger I'm gonna go insane. MIZRAK YOU BETTER SAVE HIM BACK!!

I think it would be super cathartic and fun if either:

Olrox actually is a God. He ends up actually being Quetzalcoatl like how Erzebet becomes Sekmet. He's carrying a lost religion of a people who were murdered and colonized around with him always, when so few are around to remember him. And it can explain some of his interest in Mizrak and his faith, and some of his insider knowledge and lines about God and demons.

He keeps his cool and bides his time, working from the shadows, but when the heroes need him most he kills Erzebet. I want to see him get vengence on her for everything she represents and get to be really spooky about it.

Honestly wherever the writers go with him, there's so many good options it feels hard to go wrong. He's set up so well. I really want to know more about how he was turned. Also about his Mohican lover and how Richter's mom ended up killing him.

Another reason for lack of Nancy merch (probably not) is she dared to be a complex character that made it hard to market. But also in s2 and s3 she was bit shafted sadly in general of the marketing of the show so the team didn’t really pursue much merch eventhough s3 hospital scene is in the top5 iconic sequences they pulled off which funko can still capitalize in people will buy Nancy and Jonathan funkos its proven. S4 was back to form for Nancy as a lead character in the ensemble again and the actual reviews kinda backed her up too. Another cynical reason could be is she interacted with the fan favorite characters all season giving her more exposure in general probably.

What are your thoughts on Criston Cole?

Hmmm this is complicated, like how I feel about almost every character in f&b/hotd lmao.

I will say I don’t have super strong feelings about book criston. He personally didn’t stand out to me when I read f&b, but could be bc I watched the show before i read the book. I felt pretty apathetic about almost every book character compared to their show counterparts. The whole Rhaenyra/Daemon/criston storyline did make me uncomfortable while reading the book (mushroom we hate you).

As for show criston, I think the changes they made have him suffer and soar as a character - sort of in the same way Alicent does. Making him dornish full stop instead just from the dornish marshes. Giving him dialogue that expresses his status compared to the people he literally has to protect with his life. All good especially since this is a story about a bunch of privileged (mostly white) people fighting over who gets to oppress everyone else.

That being said, when you make these changes, then prop Rhaenyra up in the way the show narrative tries to, you essentially paint him as a villian (though i think he has every right not to fuck with Rhaenyra). Having a lowborn man of color who denied wanting to be a white princess’ boy toy be painted as the “evil” ex is.. a choice. I think criston as a character is subjected to a lot of hate in the way male characters on the show are not. And as a black woman who has been in her fair share of fandoms, it is hard not to get racist vibes from some of the criticism.

it parallels how people treat Alicent. the vitriolic nature in which Alicent (and in this case criston) gets criticized compared to their counterparts makes me side eye a lot of folks. The criston incel remarks are so weird to me bc 1. Words mean things lol. Criston would be the guy actual incels hate. Extremely good looking, very good at the most ‘masculine’ hobby you can have in that time (being a warrior), and criston himself made illusions to having a romantic life pre joining the kingsguard. Him disliking Rhaenyra doesn’t make him incel, it makes him someone who got jilted

I get why people are nervous about where they will take the relationship between Alicent and criston. I get why people think he would switch on a dime from having her on this untouchable pedestal to being mean to her. But imo I don’t see Alicent crossing the line (and proceeding to double down on it) the way nyra did 🤷🏽‍♀️. I hope the writers keep their relationship as is. And I hope we get more king maker criston in s2 bc we barely saw that in s1

i'm so sorry. im procrastinating so hard and i just latched onto this.

ok so i think the mission is going to be to save marina. she's either been brainwashed or unleashed something (probably coral or black ink-- more on that later) and got seperated from eight and pearl. eight and pearl are probably going to be the ones to save her (with maybe an appearance by marie cause of that one screenshot with maybe her leg). they're probably going to have to stop a ancient creature (dinosaur?) as the final boss.

so as far as marina being semi absent (def not completely cause i doubt nintendo is that stupid) is because when you pause the trailer at the right time, there is a colorful shot where marina is looking out to the distance surprised. the first thing to notice here is that the picture is like, full of color, something you don't see in many other trailer shots, which shows that she's not in the same place as eight (or the possible new agent) is. also, she's surprised. i think this is either hinting at a possible brainwashing (it would be expected with the amount of times its happened, but likely enough) or she did an oopsie and unleashed the final boss. i think it's more likely she accidently unlocked something because as i mentioned with what the boss will probably be, it seems ancient. something ancient probably isn't going to brainwash her because the two times we've seen brainwashing in this series are with technology. something that may be before splatoon modern era tech likely wouldn't brainwash her. or, nintendo could break these ideas and just go with it, because they can do what they want. just a thought about why they probably wouldn't. finally, as far as the marina picture, there's a weird kind of... barcode? watermark? thing on the bottom. it's kind of glitchy and distorted, which makes me think it's going to be a brainwashing thing, but also it makes sense for her unleashing something.

as for pearl being the mentor character in the story, the picture of her has the perspective of looking up. and, no offence to pearl, but for her to be literally looking down on someone, they probably have to be laying down. i'm assuming this person is eight because the background looks exactly like the place that the trailer mainly shows. marie might be another mentor character because of the one shot with her leg in the elevator, but still, i think pearl will be the main one.

and as far as the villian, i think it'll be some kind of ancient/dino/coral villian. as far as the coral goes, it's pretty obvious if you've seen any theory videos on this trailer-- the entire place has a bleached coral vibe. the trees in the square look like dead coral, there's a brain (representing brain coral), and the entire place is bleached white. as far as the ancient part, my friend actually found this. if you go frame by frame on youtube (pressing the < or > keys on a computer; i didn't know this before he told me lmao) you can see a skeleton/bone creature. and we were looking for matches, and we found one!! literally, a wiki page!! for a creature (probably, i'm not an expert) alive when dinosaurs were!! so either it is a dinosaur, or has the themes and ancientness of one. because this was a more aquatic animal, it fits with the splatoon themes. also, this creature had a very evil vibe (if you've played fire emblem 3h, think sylvain's crest spear (cant remember the name rn) cause that was the first thought i had when i saw this thing). and, because it seemed so ancient (and has a literal glowing red eye where there should be a socket-- no totk trailer vibes here lmao) i think it's not something that was created by anyone or just another villian like mr grizz-- but something marina unlocks.

okey. so I've had the idea for an oc (and also an entire world) bouncing around my skull for literally YEARS at this point and I got sad that I hadn't done much so!

I've decided to call the story 'Scarred Hands and Battered Hearts' because I think it sounds cool idk (also so I had something to tag it as) I don't really know WHAT I want to do with it yet because as much as I'd love to make it a webcomic or animate bits or do anything, I also know myself and my lack of motivation :'')

anyways I just really like the tagging system here even though I don't really know how to use it effectively for much but I want to use it to be able to ramble about things (like my ocs or aus) and still have it all in one place

This is kind of an overview of the main character and names and stuff. The basic premise is superhero/supervillain world except the biggest baddest villian is actually a depressed teenager

Also a note: the only reason I even have a deadbane for him is because I started this idea before I picked a new name but after I realized what flavor of transgender I was, and it was really important to me to have a very trans character that doesn't have a new name yet. I don't think I'll ever "reveal" his deadbane or anything because. gross and also transphobia. But I wanted something to flesh out his character and be consistent

I started figuring out a timeline and this is it rn

two notes for this:

1. When I say "see" atoms I imagine it to be similar to when you can see dust in the light. It's something you can definitely see if you look for it, but it's also easily enough to look past

2. "Bird guy" is also "SUPERHERO" I just haven't the faintest idea what I want his name to be yet. He'd be the #1 hero but also just like. A middle-aged guy who genuinely wants the best for people (and struggles with the inevitable corruption with heros)

My og plan for wren's design was to have him in a plage doctor's mask and thus he is bird aligned and the hero will have to fight his instincts (expecially after seeing how young Wren is)

Eventually I realized I don't fucking know how to draw a plauge doctor's mask (and I still don't) so now he has goggles and a gas mask (both if which I love drawing)

I still want to have the hero compare Wren to a baby bird at some point but I'm not sure how

Side note but Bird hero man is gay!! He's gonna be uselessly pining after a different guy and Wren is going to be a little shit and try to set them up (post bonding arc and while complaining about now understanding romance (he's aroace))

i love how complex you’ve made these characters. despite how chaotic the situations are, the characters feel realistic and relatable through their flaws if that makes sense. like nobody is completely right or wrong, they’re all just trying to get through their own shit in their own ways of coping lol.

that’s probs why i love sending these asks so much tbh. since the characters are so multifaceted, it’s always exciting to hear your thoughts about certain things they’ve said/done. it’s clear you put a lot of care and thought into each character and their dynamics with each other. imo that’s a big part of what makes it such a compelling series.

Oh...then I guess I went too harsh on Cdpr. Also I can read eng without problems, is just writing in it is a bit hard. Now I can at least put some (just some) fate in them.

But that still doesn't disprove my point with the whole 'The oppressed minority's are just as bad as their oppressors' thing. Because they did said: 'We were trying to make everything grey' and that's the problem. This is why I don't think they were trying to show how the military propaganda can affect traumatized soldiers, or how the children of fascist's can be subjected to hateful believes. If you take the oppressors's side, you (Geralt) are not trying to change their hateful believes, there's not even an opinion to do it. The game is trying very hard to justify their actions/motivation. Their whole narrative is 'the dude who does racist things is not racist, he has reasons' and not 'the dude who does racist things is not racist and he can furthermore realize how wrong he is'. Roche and Ves are not affected by propaganda because there is no propaganda. The Scoia'tael are terrorists, they actually do terrible things, and they do pose a threat to Roche and Ves's country. I guess saying there's no propaganda at all is a stretch, but the point still stands. What Roche accuses the Scoia'tael of doing - is true and you can see it for yourself. That's why I cited the example with the elves previously.

You can make an argument that in tw1 there was some sort off metaphorical narrative and how through religion you can propagate hateful believes. And Siegfried is the example. You do actually change his mind and go against fascists. But I don't think that's the case in the second game. Could be wrong ofc.

Maybe I'm taking it at face value lmao but that's how it looks like, to me at least. And I'm not trying to argue with you btw! Just clarifying what I failed to explain. But thank you for this discussion, it was very insightful for me! Now I can at least shit less on Cdpr. Ah I see what you're saying about the 'greyness' that CDPR relies so heavily on. The devs go on and on about how no choice is simple and such, but a lot of the time - and especially in the case of TW2 and their Scoia'tael, this just means an overuse of the "Well-Intentioned Extremist" trope (which I'm so tired of):

A villain who has an overall goal which the heroes can appreciate in principle, but whose methods of pursuing said goal (such as mass murder) are problematic; despite any sympathy they may have with their cause, the heroes have no choice but to stop them. (TV tropes)

Perhaps unrelated, but I feel like there are huge parallels to be drawn with the flat writing in Disney's Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

[The villians] have valid goals— they want a world without borders in which newly-declared refugees can easily find homes, / But following [their leaders] bombing of innocent people / [they] appear to be beyond redemption despite [their] initial good intentions. (Source)

Making a group of oppressed people guilty of horrific crimes related to their search for freedom makes violent retaliation against them much more viable in the world of the story, but it's still bad writing, and it's a loophole that will always favor the comfort of the most privileged viewers.

So yes, within the game, the Blue Stripes are fighting terrorists when they face the scoia'tael. But - !!! I think this is only really true if you take Roche's path.

On Roche's path, the Scoia'tael fade to the background by the second half of the game, their (Iorveth's) long-term motivations/internal operations are never truly uncovered, and Roche's role in non-human oppression is not interrogated, not questioned in the way it should be.

However, Iorveth's path does break this down, albeit briefly if you want to get specific about Roche. Once you commit to Iorveth's path, the game takes on a far more sympathetic lens to the Scoia'tael, and when the 'free pontar' project is juxtaposed to the Blue Stripes 'beat nonhumans into submission' operations, things start to feel a lot...idk?? Less Grey? Black and white? I'm thinking of this conversation in particular:

Iorveth (to Geralt on the topic of the Blue Stripes) : These units recruit only those who have nothing left to lose. They're persuaded it's all for a greater good and are spoon-fed dreams of revenge for the death of their loved ones. (Youtube link, jump to 6:08)

Iorveth says outright that the Blue Stripes are violent maniacs committing war crimes based on lies told to them by kings (aka propaganda, but I've overused that word). You have to be pretty deep into his path to get here, it's an optional line, and there's no way of telling if Geralt really agrees with this, but I'm holding onto it because it's evidence that at least one writer was reading Roche the way I do.

So yeah, I agree with you that CDPR was pushing, or at least making a lot of room for a grey or even positive take on the Blue Stripes (which I find reductive even as a concept), but the 'blind tool of the state' narrative that I like to go with is still in there somewhere - but my god do you have to squint.

I also enjoy how you gave Alex some sort of humanity, since he was such a morally gray villian in MH. Him warning Tim, (but of course Tim isn't gonna listen) and then him knowing Jessica wasn't ready, voicing his concern, showing that he really does care. He's worried, and seems to be more upset at Brian for letting Jessica do that – giving her the idea to dress up and then ultimately dying on her first mission. I wonder if he felt guilty for not fighting her and Brian on it more, since he was quick to try and make Tim not go to Jay's when Tim discovered that Jay is Skully.

Don't get me started on how you portray Brian. I absolutely love how you made his character so silly, but also so serious all in one. It's hard to do, and you did that perfectly with Brian in QB. Him knowing he can't stop Jessica, so easily giving in and having some sort of hope that she could help, giving her the disguise, and leading her to her demise. He had to have known she wasn't ready, just like Alex had told him, but he wanted to have hope. I'm wondering if it's because he also wants Tim safe? They were best friends (and I am... a Brim shipper.. so excuse me for this speculation but I love them!) Same with what i said with Alex, I wonder if Brian feels guilty for guiding Jessica to her death.

And then Jay. While I'm so angry at him right now, how you've written him feels so genuinely manic. How he still acts like Jay, you didn't take his character away, but you've expanded on the issues he already had and made them so much worse. You didn't exactly add anything extremely new to him – not talking about the scars um! Those are new alright! – but the way you expanded on his already present issues is so genuinely intriguing to me because that is so hard to do. You've built is character insanely well, how he seems to love Tim but he has something he "has" to do – or he thinks he has to do. I actually have no idea how you're redeeming this man btw because WDYM WHAT HES DOING IS WORSE THAN WHAT ALEX DID....

Tim. God Tim. You have actually written him so insanely well. As above you've written everyone really well! But the way you portray him after everything – accurately portraying the trauma he would have gotten from MH. The love he still has for Jay, the immediate comfort Tim finds with Jay because it's familiar. The fact that Tim is so easily manipulated by Jay. Tim having such a naive trust in Jay because Jay was all he had for so long during MH and he loves him. And that is SO HEART BREAKING because obviously, Jay either feels the same way, or he just knows and used it against Tim – though, I'd like to assume he feels the same way.

Jessica.. I love how protective you wrote her, how she was quick to realize something is wrong with Jay. How she knows they've gone into something they definitely cannot handle. How she knows Tim is going to throw away the life he's built for himself. And how she decides she has to find proof that Jay is Skully, because she doesn't want Tim to be manipulated by him. Which ultimately led to her demise. Her determination and care let her to her demise, and that hurts more than her dying in general. The fact she died trying to protect, trying to help, trying to make sure Tim stays free from whatever is happening.

All in all, you write emotions so well. It all feels so real, which really puts MH to justice since MH also felt SO real in emotions. Also, the way you draw it all is so so good. The way you can portray the emotions in the comic is insane, because it's hard to do. You have inspired me so much ngl I really wanna make art for this 😭

wow so this proves that phillip/belos is still a fucking child that grew old but didn't grow up LMAO

i say that jokingly but in all seriousness, everything his inner self did felt like a child's game specifically - a child playing at being a witch-hunter. his sword is wooden like his mask and feels incredibly toy-like, the way he ran and laughed and gathered up seemingly useless knickknacks to create the spell circle to catch the cursed version of himself in the mindscape felt like a game. it tells us that this belief in witchcraft being evil and something to destroy was a core part of his upbringing/childhood, and is very deep-rooted in his sense of self. the only difference is that now, instead of play-fighting and pretending to burn witches at the stake, his actions are actually having harmful consequences

luz calling phillip/belos evil prompts the response "well, can't reason with crazy", which is almost exactly what i expected him to say - an immediate dismissal on the grounds of "that doesn't align with my core beliefs, and therefore cannot be assimilated into my worldview, and therefore deems you Wrong and not worth listening to"

to question or change his core belief of "all witches are evil" would literally uproot his entire internal system of opinions and beliefs about his reality, and cause a fuckton of internal stress. much like hunter's view of his world got uprooted by the whole, uh. clone news this episode.

it hurts to go through it, so no wonder Hunter kept trying to excuse the things he was seeing in the mindscape, and no wonder Belos is still following the same biases he was taught as a child. doing such a deep dive into your perspective of the world and yourself is actually like, kind of a hard thing to do for villians/people who don't like to be wrong, and i don't think the show is going to fulfill the route of attempting to changing his mind
