Since this user's posts seem to have been deleted in previous opportunities I copy-paste their words here because they express exactly what I feel about this game. Dragon Age has died, unfortunately.
I'm a big time Dragon Age lover and have enjoyed every game in the series. Personally, I think Inquisition is the best in the series. And I was excited for Veilguard right up until I actually began playing it. Now, I want to clear things up at the start as to what I look for and believe makes a good Dragon Age game. To start, I DON'T CARE ABOUT COMBAT. I. Do. Not. Care.
You can make it Origins tactical. DA2 fast tactical. DAI hybrid. God of War action, I don't care. Dragon Age has always had combat that was...fine. A nice distraction and breakup in between the bits I actually care about: narrative ROLEPLAYING, story, characters, and exploration. I don't give a crap how great the combat is if the narrative roleplaying and writing are poor, I'm not playing BioWare titles for amazing gameplay. I am here for the story, the characters, and the roleplaying. Truth is, for a time I considered DATV's combat to be the best in the series.
And this is why I feel the game is a terrible Dragon Age, because it lacks or fails to respect those elements concerned with narrative roleplaying, story, characters, and exploration. Now, in many reviews and online videos you'll hear some reference often to the drop in writing quality. And a lot of time people will incorrectly say that the writing with the characters is to "modern" or "Marvel quippy" or not "dark" enough. I think these people are wrong, they recognize there is a drop in writing quality from previous games but aren't able to articulate why that is.
Dragon Age has never adopted any sort of faux medieval speech and vocabulary (though we'll get into this more later). This is a series that used "epic fail" as a thing someone uttered in the very first game. It's always had anachronistic dialogue and banter. So why is it such a drop then? Why is it considered poor? Simple. This is a game that does not believe in the world it has setup for over a decade. It does not believe in or engage properly with its own world and lore. I mean, look no further than the title "The Veilguard" a phrase that is never uttered by anyone in our group, and further proof it was a last minute marketing change. Compare to Inquisition where the title is apparent from the start in the game and has actual meaning.
You see, characters in DATV do not feel or react to events the way they should based on the lore. Why is no one constantly asking what the hell the Inquisitor is doing? The Inquisitor is kind of a BIG DEAL when it comes to Solas and Elven Gods, my Inquisitor drank from the WELL OF SORROWS! So why are we sitting around thinking at the start, "hmm lemme think who I can contact who might know more." The Herald of Andraste! They know more Rook, the guy that is technically your boss. The Inquisitor! Who else have you been working for this entire time? Who do you think told Varric to recruit you?!
But even removing the Inquisitor, the Elven Gods being real and also near synonymous with the old Tevinter Gods is kind of a BIG DEAL. It was only a theory fans crafted long ago that slowly revealed itself to be true. And it completely upends known religious dogma on all sides. Yet, why aren't people we meet going through a massive existential crisis? For instance, the Veil Jumpers we initially meet were presumably told off-screen about Fen'Harel, and are seemingly cool with this massive knowledge alone. But then we talk about those two other Gods being released and they're like, "well, shit those two aren't good." As if they have any clue if the fables about those Gods are real when we previously just upended everything they thought about the Dreadwolf! Why are you acting like this is another Tuesday?! Your entire religion is wrong. In that same conversation, Strife notes "Solas might be a bastard, but compared to the Evunaris? Let's just say they weren't know for being kind rulers."
My brother in Anduril, what are you talking about! Elven religion teaches that Elgar'nan was so beloved by the Earth that it "the land brought forth great birds and beasts of sky and forest, and all manner of wonderful green things." And that he fought the jealous Sun that tried to burn the land and all beasts away. Custom says that he and Mythal, "created the world as we know it" after defeating the Sun. He is literally described as one of the "good" Gods. WHY ARE YOU ASSUMING HE IS EVIL! It's like finding out Satan is real, but not as evil as have come to believe and then being told Jesus Christ is back and a devout Christian going, "well shit, that can't be good." WHAT?!
The same goes for Andraste and the Chant of Light, it took me 30 hours of playing before ONE character mentioned Andraste and the implications with the Chant and it was never brought up again. Our entire party is seemingly made up of unphased atheists. Now compare to something like Inquisition which explored this aspect HARD and was amazing for it. You'd get into great debates with religious figures and party members about the implications of Corypheus actually being a Tevinter Magister of old. And you'd talk about what it means towards the religious dogma preached and how much is true. And these intense political and religious discussions are present in every previous game, and not confined to a single conversation with one party member where it is seemingly resolved.
These conversations do not happen in DATV because there is no depth to the writing or engagement with the world. The Elven Gods are evil and need to be stopped. That's it. We don't need to think about the implications this has on Dalish customs and religion. Fuck it, all the Dalish are going to still wear their Vallaslin slave brand tattoos. Let's forget about Trespasser implying Solas was removing them from followers coming to join him. Let's even forget they were likely all told at this point that they are slave brands, nope still going to wear them yet speak blasphemy with every sentence against our Gods. No one cares about Andraste or The Maker or the Chant. Big deal if these Elven Gods contradict the overwhelming majority religion in Thedas. Not a single party member has religious or cultural objections to killing the Elven Gods; not a problem. Not one single elf wants to join Solas in tearing down The Veil and getting immortality again?
Again, let's forget about Trespasser setting up Solas gathering MANY Elven followers from Dalish clans who would be super inclined to join him after experiencing CENTURIES of discrimination and slavery by humans. The better question is what Elves wouldn't join Solas at the start? And what Elves wouldn't look at the other two Gods and go, "meh, maybe we should give them a try. They can't be worse than humans, right?" In DA2 you had elves joining The Qun to escape the discrimination of humans, but not ONE ELF wants to join Solas or Elgar'nan? Those Ancient Elves in the Temple of Mythal? I guess they all died, right?
This extends to EVERY single element of Dragon Age that previously had depth to it, it now has been completely removed. Those murdering Antivan Crows? Oh, they're just good Italian Mob Family that protect their city. Tevinter? Yes, it has poor people, but we're trying to do better. Oh, slavery? No, no we don't show that here. The Qun? The what now? No, they are all Antaam now, and so that means they are all generic evil warlords. No, they don't even attempt to follow their own hardcore view of The Qun like when Templars split from the Chantry, they're just warlords now that like plunder. Dwarves and their rigid Caste society? We don't do that here. Elves and racism across Thedas? Elves used to experience racism? News to me, what's a Shemlen? Never heard of that term, we like all humans. Pirates? That is insensitive, we are Lords of Fortune and we are sure to return any cultural artifacts found to their rightful owners; it belongs in a museum after all. The fucking Fade and spirits? Wait, you mean its different than generic fantasy spirit world? I'm sorry, that's too complicated here.
This either intentional disregard of the lore or plain ignorance also extends to environmental design. The asset reuse from Inquisition is particularly hilarious and must speak to the developers not having time after the switch from MP. Why are the same statues found in Val Royeaux in DAI also in Tevinter and Antiva? Why are those stupid Fen'Harel Wolf statues EVERYWHERE? Even in the catacombs of other Elven Gods! There are no statues of Elgar'nan or Ghilan'nain. Nothing for June or Anduril. Dirthamen. Falon'Din. Nothing. No, the only Gods that seem to get statues are coincidentally the ones who already had assets created for DAI or past titles that could be reused. Hmmm.
This continues into character designs too, why do the Veiljumpers and Shadow Dragons all dress richly? They are supposed to be poor as fuck. There's a codex entry about Veiljumpers finding a lost cache of old ancient elven armor and weapons and so boom they all get to dress like High Elven Lords and not the dirty, poor, wandering Dalish clans they are supposed to come from. Why do this? There isn't even an attempt to explaining why the Shadow Dragons, an organization supposed to be secretive, has branded clothing in bright rich colors and fabrics for all members. Naturally, it must be incredibly difficult for Tevinter authorities to not identify them.
This lack of depth and verisimilitude, naturally, affects all the characters. Because in this game you cannot roleplay and you cannot ask questions. In Dragon Age Inquisition, once you started the game, you could immediately interrogate Varric about what happened to every DA2 character despite the Inquisitor never meeting them, you know because it respects its players. You could speak to shop keepers, blacksmiths, your horse master. You could interrogate every single person to learn more about them and the world. The same goes for your player character in DA2 and Origins. You show in Denermin and find yourself knee deep in a quest to help Wade the Blacksmith craft the perfect armor. Here you can't actually speak to a single shopkeeper to ask questions and get some lore bits. You can't ask party members questions about their background, religious beliefs, upbringing, their factions, etc. You can't ask any returning characters any questions either about what they've been doing. Enter a brand new area? Great, you're not asking anyone questions about this never before seen place.
How does a lost Dwarven thaig survive every single blight? How are their immortal lichs in Neverra? How long has that been a thing? Why haven't they told anyone about the Elven gods or any other knowledge they've accumulated in an immortal lifespan? If immortality is so "easy" why can't Solas just do that to restore the Elves? Why are the Venatori, Tevinter Supremacists, following Elven Gods? Wouldn't that be a major identity crisis? Why would Antaam, who still preach the Qun, follow an Elven God that speaks blasphemy with ever breadth? Sshhhh, no questions. You get what is directly told to you and that's it, no follow-up questions.
Party members do not conflict with each other or interrogate each other's beliefs which is why their banter feels inconsequential and meaningless. Lucanis is a assassin, he kills people for money. The same organization that marked Zevran for death for failing a contract. The same one that took him as a kid and trained him to murder, often brutally, for coin. And yet no one really seems to care. He's just a nice Italian assassin from a nice assassin organization. Who cares. Let's instead talk about cooking, at length. Harding, a devout follower of Andraste, has no qualms with Elven Gods wreaking havoc on known religion. We get one conversation you can tell her to believe what she wants, and that's the end of that debate. Bellara also gets about two whole conversations about the conflict concerning her Gods wreaking havoc, both easily resolved. We don't need to think about any larger implications or doubt her loyalty when the Elven pantheon are seeking to restore her people that have been discriminated against since forever. Emmerich, a necromancer of Neverra, apparently has no religious belief. A codex entry even states that those of the Mourn Watch don't know where the soul goes after death. They don't like to think about it. Buddy, Mortalitasi belief is literally that our souls return to the Void alongside The Maker, but to keep balance a exchange must be wrought with The Fade to allow a spirit to house the now empty vessel. How do you not know the religion and customs of your own faction and land? This man has a whole quest line about funerary rights, yet not ONCE mentions religion and what he believes happens after death?! Sshhhh, no questions. No thinking.
Hey, remember The Fade? Remember how mages go to dream there every night. Remember how The Black City is always visible there? No? Well, we don't either. You won't see The Black City in The Fade. You might see it in The Crossroads in a closed off section, even though it is NOT The Fade. Oh, we're going to have you physically enter The Fade in multiple quest lines and no one will think it's a big deal. No, you still can't see The Black City. Now, The Fade is reduced to nothing more than your generic fantasy spirit world. It has none of the previous rules and lore that bound it before. Demons can bind to non-mages and we won't attempt to explain it. Solas fucks with The Veil and not a single mage notices a change in their dreams when they sleep at night. No biggie.
Lastly, let's return at last to the actual minutiae of writing. I stated at the start the writing isn't bad because of Marvel quippiness, which the series has always had. I was partly lying. Yes, the series has always had anachronistic dialogue. It has had meme language in its own previous titles. But, it was just that, a small joke here and there. For the most part the series actually tried to use it's own sort of "older" speech patterns. I think a perfect example has to do with Taash, she eventually finds her own identity and declares she is proudly "non-binary." Literally stating, "so, I'm non-binary." I have no issue with this sort of inclusivity in Dragon Age, it's what the series is known for. Yet, why does that sound wrong? Simple, it's far too anachronistic. It doesn't belong in Dragon Age. In Inquisition, Dorian let's us know he's gay. But he doesn't say, "I'm gay!" or "I'm a homosexual" those terms would not exist in his world. Instead he says, "I prefer the company of men."
And it's these little subtle changes in writing that makes it feel all the more different. We went from "I once ventured in to The Fade to serve the Old Gods of Tevinter in person. I found there only chaos and corruption. Dead whispers. Now I shall return under no name but my own, to champion withered Tevinter and correct this blighted world gone wrong. Pray that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of the Gods. And it was empty."
To: "Well, shit. That can't be good."
So, what do we have when all is said and done? Well, we have a decent generic fantasy action game. An intentional attempt by the developers to remove every edge from the world of Dragon Age in place of a very simple, easy to understand world with not much depth beyond what you see. You don't need to think, just play and have fun. This is beyond turning a MP game into a SP game, which so blatantly obvious in this game. DA2 was developed in 16 months, but is carried strong by its writing. You see, nothing prevented them from just acknowledging their own world they created. It costs very little to write around what already exists. Even if you can't make no assets or redesign the world. Writing is cheap and having characters voice these elements is not as costly as a redesign. No, they chose to remove the edge in every element because this was design intentionally for the masses with easy to understand world and zero depth.
But I wanted to play Dragon Age. I wanted to get into intense religious debates with party members as known lore is completely upended. I wanted to debate Elvish clans deciding to join Solas or the other Gods due to their treatment by human society. I wanted to debate the ethics of necromancy with the Mortalitasi of Neverra's Crypts. I wanted to engage in intense debating with Solas on the ethics of his goal. I wanted to see Tevinter react to a real push for anti-slavery and actually see the slavery in the slave capital of the world. I wanted to butt heads with the Antivan Crows and call them out for the murderers they are. I wanted to see the Black Divine and debate the Chant of Light with them. I wanted to speak to the Archon of Tevinter and see how he felt about the Venatori's past efforts in Inquisition. Hey, what happened to Meredith Reborn in Kirkwall and her idol and Red Templar worshipers? Forget about it.
We got none of this. I got a game that is pretty much disrespectful of its own world. I waited 10 years for this? Why even bother if this is the result? They may as well have just killed every previous character we ever knew, including Solas, offscreen and started anew with this game. Because as a Dragon Age game and sequel, it's terrible and no returning character is how they should be.
And when we get to the ending, that's pretty much what they did. Everything you did in all the past games? Well, that was pointless. Everyone is probably dead. King Alistair. Gaspard. Celene. King Bhelen. The Arl of Redcliffe. The Divine. The Circle of Magi. The Templars. The Seekers. Everything, everyone, and every organization that existed in the South is likely dead and destroyed. And now Dragon Age can become what they wanted, a generic fantasy IP.
But I just wanted to play Dragon Age.
#dragon age#dragon age critical#dragon age spoilers#I finished this game... and now just mourn the end of a fantasy world that was so much and now is nothing

Corinne Busche, John Epler, Matt Rhodes and Community Manager Katey were the devs that were there.
----
Katey: Hello!
John: Hello.
Katey: Beautiful, your mic sounds beautiful. How's everybody doing?
John: Excellent. I, just as a headsup, I have some folks doing some service, in the next room so, if I, if you hear background noise, that's what that is.
Katey: No worries at all. Well I hope that everybody who's been waiting in here is really excited, because I'm super excited. I'm Katey. I'm the Community Manager. If you don't already know, you can usually see my name at the top of this Discord server. But I'm joined here with some awesome guests that I'll let introduce themselves. Let's start with Corinne.
Corinne: Can you hear me okay?
John: Yep.
Katey: Yep, we can hear you beautifully.
Corinne: Great, perfect. I'm Corinne Busche, Game Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
John: Awesome. I'm John Epler, Creative Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Corinne: John!
John: Hello.
Katey: And then we've also got Matt Rhodes, who may be struggling to find the unmute button which is at the bottom left.
Corinne: Our, our resident artist-poet, Matt Rhodes.
Katey: I could unmute him, actually, I don't know if I can unmute him, but if he needs help, he can message me on the side.
John: The joys of being a giant nerd is I spend a lot of time on Discord anyway, so.
Corinne: Well there you go, right?
Katey: Fair enough. Alright, well, we have a ton of questions to answer. We probably won't be able to get to all of them today. You all have sent in so many really really great answers, sorry, questions for us to answer. And if we don't get to them today, we're hoping to be able to do things like this in the future. So without further ado, I'll get started. First question's a bit of a soft ball, I feel. If you could belong to any of the main factions shown in the game, which would you choose?
Corinne: I mean, listen Katey, you say softball, but like, this is hard! Iâm gonna cheat, and Iâm gonna give you two. So for fashion, the Antivan Crows, all day long. Their threads, youâre gonna love it. For vibes, though, like the ones that capture my vibe, Mourn Watch. Gimme those necromancers.
John: Those are good answers. I have, I have one for fashion, and also for, just general faction Iâd like to be a part of. Veil Jumpers. Who doesnât like a nice walk in the forest, yâknow? Even if that forest is filled with horrifying monsters and terrifying anomalies, but yeah.
Katey: I love that. I know that Matt has a few technical issues â oh, heâs unmuted. There we go. Or maybe not. Thatâs okay, I think we can move on.
John: The Fade has taken Matt.
Corinne: Thatâs right, thatâs right.
Katey: Yes. One quick thing, if you check your settings, the cog-wheel in the bottom left, make sure that your voice, like, your audio is all good. If youâre still hearing the music, feel free to maybe, force-quit Discord and rejoin by just joining the stage directly. And mute the music before you come in. Okay. I can move on to the next question for now. Iâve seen, so this question was from Acra. Iâve seen a lot of talk about only having two companions in your party instead of three for this game. What is the reasoning behind this and will we still get the same companion conversations and banter as seen in the previous Dragon Age games?
Corinne: Ooh, this is such a good question. Thankyou, whoever submitted this one. Yeah, Iâll guess Iâll start and then Iâll turn it over to John Epler. So, first of all, as you saw in the gameplay reveal, this is a much more intimate experience. Weâve pulled the camera in. For those that arenât aware, the reason why is we want you to feel like you actually are in this world, right? Like, youâre walking these city streets of Minrathous, youâre looking up, seeing the buildings all around you, youâre a part of this place. So itâs much more intimate, and we believe as the narrative unfolds this creates a lot more immersion. Now, how that relates to companions is in doing this, we went back and forth on it a lot, but we actually found, with this perspective, having two companions, really allows them more visibility and presence. Weâve talked about the incredible depth and focus weâve put on fleshing out these companions, theyâre very fully-realized. So here, you really get to see them more clearly, you get to see them shine. When you see Lace Harding jump into the air and unleash a volley of arrows, you can only really get that because of that more intimate view. So I love the spotlight thatâs been put on them. But, I think, in addition to the banter, one of the things that people are wondering about is, okay, but what about gameplay? So again, this has come about from our testing, working with the internal team, also our lovely Council of players. We just found that when youâre playing in the combat system, when youâre planning your strategies, two really felt like the right number to manage. So keep in mind, Rook has a lot of different types of actions, Abilities, individual attacks that are more fully fleshed-out than ever before. Timing and positioning matter a lot. So this really felt like the right balance to have. The number of inputs and actions weâre asking you as a player to take, including directing your companions, is higher than ever before. And I will also say, I engage with the companions, like I actively control what theyâre doing more than I ever have before in any of the other three games. But John, Iâll toss it over to you for the banter. Thatâs kind of like the, we got a two-for-one there.
John: Yeah, yeah.
Corinne: I think thatâs a, a great question.
John: So - itâs a great question, yeah. I mean honestly, I donât think you could actually stop the writers from writing banter. I will say for myself, itâs, itâs one of the more light but fun things to do. You get to write little stories, little arcs between different characters. And I mean, The Veilguard is no different. Banter is still absolutely core part of it. You know, weâve got global banter, you know, the general stuff that you get in all spaces, as well as mission-specific stuff. But, yeah, itâs definitely still a big thing. I think itâs, if anything itâs the most weâve, weâve ever done for pairings of companions. Beyond that weâve also made sure, and I mean Iâve been on Dragon Age for a while, and I know thereâs been issues, you know, things like, okay, well I donât wanna miss this banter. So weâve even added stuff like some interruptible and resumable banter as well, just to make sure that, because again, itâs a core part of the experience. Everyone loves hearing these companions talk to each other, everyone loves hearing these little stories and relationships develop over the course of the game and, as mentioned before, companions are the heart of this experience and banter is a big part of that, so, you still have it, itâs, if anything, like I said, you could not stop the writers from doing it even if we tried, so.
Corinne: Thatâs right, thatâs right. Well, John, you know, listening to you speak, one thing that comes to mind, maybe people are wondering, with two companions in the field do I get less interaction between, that, like do I get to see my companions interacting in a broader group more often.
John: Oh -
Corinne: And, the way youâll gather them around the kitchen table, thereâs just so many of those moments where theyâre all interacting with each other.
John: Well, I think â
Corinne: Those are some of my favorite parts.
John: Yeah, and I think, yeah, and actually thatâs a, a good call, because I think the other side of it is, weâre not talking too much about your home or anything, but, we also want to make sure that they feel like they have a relationships and a life outside of just, the times you take a certain pair of companions out on the field. So we made sure that, they have those interactions there as well.
Katey: Love that. Letâs see. Um, Matt, are we, are we all set, are we good? Yes? No? Okay. I can continue and we can come back to some of your questions. Alright. So that, I loved the answers to those. How customizable is the backstory of Rook? Will we get to determine their past in the Character Creator? And that was asked by Briar.
John: Yeah, so. Absolutely. So, one of, each, Rook has six different backgrounds that you can choose from. Each of them is tied to one of the major factions in The Veilguard and each one sets out who Rook was before they recruited, were recruited by Varric, and. Well that sets out the broad events. As you go through the game, as youâre gonna have conversations, either with members of your faction, other characters, you can define, not just what those events were, but what they meant to you, what was your motivation, what was the kind of person you are as you build up Rook, because again, we wanna make sure that roleplaying is at the heart of this experience. And taking Rook, giving them, again, giving them background to ground them in the world but then letting you decide what that means and what that says about you is also a big part of it, so. And again, there are six different factions in this game, two which, anyone whoâs played Dragon Age for a while will remember. Youâve got the Grey Wardens. Youâve got the Antivan Crows. We also have, in addition to that, we have four new ones, because weâre in northern Thedas. We have the Veil Jumpers. We have the Mourn Watch. We have the Shadow Dragons, and we have the Lords of Fortune, so. Again, a lot of different options, a lot of different background, and a lot of opportunities to really define what your, who your Rook was, and who they are now, so.
Katey: Amazing. Will crafting return? If yes, has it been improved over the system in Inquisition? Asked by Some Dude.
Matt: Testing.
Katey: Oh hey Matt!
Corinne: âSome Dudeâ, is that, Iâm gonna assume âSome Dudeâ is a username. Great question.
Katey: Yes.
Corinne: Welcome Matt, the lovely Matt Rhodes.
Matt: Testing, testing.
Corinne: Welcome, welcome, hello. Alright, so, will crafting return? You can absolutely improve and customize your gear, yes, that is a big part of RPG progression, so yes you can improve and customize it. I will say, though, itâs different this time around, and it does get into spoiler territory, so I, Iâm gonna be a little bit cagey about it, but there might be a mysterious entity that assists you with that thatâll be an important part of the narrative.
Katey: So mysterious.
Corinne: Oooh!
Katey: Matt, Iâm gonna actually go back to our first question so that you can answer, so everyone knows.
Matt: Thank you.
Katey: What faction, what faction you would choose if you could choose one for yourself?
Matt: Absolutely, oh, for me itâs definitely the Lords of Fortune. Iâve had a chance to try out a bunch of them, but I think Iâve finally settled on them. And itâs largely just because pirate-barbarian is just such a great combination of elements, so. Treasure-hunting plus beaches and palm trees and all that stuff, itâs a, itâs a really good mix, so thatâs kinda my default.
Katey: I think Iâm with you there, for sure. How about this one - this one was definitely asked probably amongst the most in Discord. Axolotl asks, can we kiss or romance Manfred the skeleton?
Matt: Uh, I, I would say, not that skeleton, but weâre not saying no skeletons.
Katey: I love that answer.
Corinne: This is my favorite answer so far.
Katey: Alright, so Iâm gonna get back on track here. Alright. What, what were some of the development considerations that you had to take into account to ensure that this new game flows and functions with prior games, and Dragon Age Keep, if Keep is being utilized?
Corinne: Ooh, thatâs a good one too. So, first of all, I would, I would point everyone to, we did an interview with IGN that goes into some of the details there, so, like, if you want a deeper dive on it, check out that article. But just to summarize, we have taken a different approach on how you import your decisions this time around. Itâs now actually been fully-integrated into the Character Creator, and kinda serves a dual purpose, to be honest. I, I playfully, itâs not called this in-game, but I playfully think of it as âLast Time On Dragon Ageâ.
Katey: I love that.
Corinne: Right? Now, when I talk about its dual purpose, itâs been ten years since the last Dragon Age game released, so it serves as a refresher on critical events as well as allowing you to re-make those decisions that are critical to you. The thing I love about it is, itâs very highly visual, it uses the familiar tarot card aesthetic, so itâs actually really visual and playful experience as you go through it. It is very much important to us that itâs built into the client, though. You can play this game entirely offline. No connection. You donât have to link to your EA accounts, like thatâs been a really big request. So, the refresher plus make those decisions in-client, I think weâre all pretty happy about that. I donât wanna spoil anything by revealing what decisions you can import, like, look, yâall donât want the spoilers, but I will say, itâs been a really interesting creative intersection for us, because on the one hand, this is a whole new adventure. Youâre in northern Thedas, these locations that youâve literally never been to before. So that affects some of what will matter and what weâre not using this time around, as far as decisions. But obviously thereâs some very, very clear connections to existing characters. Itâs no secret that the Inquisitor, our dear Inky, is gonna show up, so, thatâs, thatâs a factor.
Katey: Peachy asks, will this next game be an open-world game, or is it just contained to Tevinter?
John: Yeah, thatâs a great question. So, you are in northern Thedas, but the game only begins in Minrathous, it doesnât stay there. Iâm, I think one of the most exciting things for me, honestly, and again, to Corinneâs earlier point about spoilers, I donât wanna get into too much spoiler detail, but getting to go to, and work with the art team, work with the narrative, work with the design team to build out these locations that weâve talked about. Places that characters have referred to as where theyâve come from, places that characters, obviously, in previous games, have hailed from, has been absolutely exciting. So, itâs, you do start in Tevinter, you do start in Minrathous, but again, thatâs not the entire game by any stretch. So yeah.
Corinne: Yeah, and the first half of it is, is it an open-world game? Weâve gone back to what we believe delivers the best, most curated â
John: Mhm.
Corinne: - intense narratives. So, this is a hand-crafted experience, itâs mission-based. Now, these locations can open up. You can go back, solve mysteries, do some really great side-content. Not fetch-quests, not grind-quests, some really great side content.
John: Mhm.
Corinne: But, I wanna be clear. Itâs, itâs a really curated, hand-crafted experience.
John: And just to, just to bounce off of that very quickly. The most important thing for us, to what Corinne was saying about hand-crafted, obviously weâve talked about how, you know, narrative, story, characters, are the most, are critical to us, and this has allowed us to build these experiences in a way that emphasize that, extremely long, while still, again, tying into the story threads and the story beats, so.
Katey: Awesome. TastefulToxel wants to know - will the companions have unique specializations like Dragon Age II, or will it be the same ones we will have access to as the player in like DA: Origins, or Inquisition?
Corinne: Oh, cool. Hey TastefulToxel. Yeah, so, cool question. I think the best way for me to describe this is that, yes, our companions will have Abilities that are truly unique to them. But also, the companions do fall into the archetypes of mage, rogue, and warrior. Like, for instance, you might be surprised to hear, because she has a bow, but Bellara is, in fact, a mage, and I, I love that. So, some of the Abilities, the bulk of the Abilities of the companions are based on their own unique personality. Like, Neve is the only mage that is an Ice Mage, so you get distinct Abilities for her. But, because sheâs a mage, she does have access to Abilities that all the mages share, like Time Slow. So we really like the balance there. Itâs like a good mix of representing their archetype, their class, and also their distinct specialization or personality, whatever you wanna call it.
John: Yeah, actually, I would actually say the word âpersonalityâ is a really great one because thatâs, again, each of these characters exists, each of these characters have a history, have a story of how they became who they were, and part of that was finding that intersection between narrative and gameplay, and making sure that, again, we, we serve the needs of gameplay but also allow these characters to breathe and exist as their own people, not just in conversation, but out of conversations, as well.
Corinne: I would also say as part of that core mage kit, healing spells are there, so any of your mages, you wanna make âem a healer, do that.
Katey: Lunasoul Darkmoon asks, will The Veilguard have tactical combat still?
Corinne: Ooh, such a good one, such a good one. Okay. Yes! Combat gets quite tactical, like, obviously this is an evolution of the combat system, and I talked about immersion, wanting you, to put you in the world, like youâre actually living and existing in it, but it is very tactical. And, I will say, we have a robust difficulty system. The tactics are increasingly important the higher difficulty level you go. So like, look, if youâre showing up for a highly tactical experience, I would crank that difficulty level in particular. But I wanna make clear, Iâm, super, I wanna make sure Iâm super clear in my answer. You saw the gameplay reveal. Our pause-time tactical mode is not overhead. It stays close to Rook. It does allow you to cycle between targets, both in and out of combat, thereâs a reason for that. As the game progresses, and you didnât see this in that opening hour of the game, but itâll display strategic information on the enemies, so like, what are their vulnerabilities, what are their elemental weaknesses, their enhancements, what are they resistant to? So your type of Abilities, learning into elemental gameplay, matters a lot. Iâd also say, this is a long answer, itâs such a good question â tactical decision-making also takes the form, I would say this is front and center, of coordinating your Ability usage between Rook and your companions to create synergies, or really devastating â we call them â detonation combos. So, let me give you a couple of examples, because it can be a little hard to visualize, so hopefully this helps. So one of the tactics that I personally enjoy in my own builds, I just recently played as a Veil Ranger, I love it, itâs one of my favorites. If Iâm fighting Fade-touched enemies in Arlathan, I like to use Bellaraâs Galvanized Tear to pull enemies together, itâs like a gravity well. You then Slow Time with Neve and, Slow Time affects the world around you, but it does not affect you, so you clump them up, you Slow Time, and then with Rook, I come in and do, like a devastating AOE or damage over time spell or Ability, and itâs even better if itâs a lightning-based Ability, because the Fade-touched in Arlathan are vulnerable to that. So thereâs so many layers of coordination and strategy and tactics. Now we did talk about the devastating, like, detonation combos, honestly, thatâs probably one of my favorite features, because thatâs when youâre really leaning into explicit teamwork between your companions and Rook, or, the companions together. So when I, when I build out my team and Iâm going into a mission, I try to ensure that I have at least a couple of possible synergies, detonation combo synergies within my team. Might be between Harding and Neve, or it might be between Neve and me, or it might be both. So here, I would go into battle, Iâd pause time, open the Ability Wheel, get information on the enemy, and the Wheel will actually tell me that there is a synergy combo, you might have seen a screenshot that says âcombo available. It will remind you of those synergies between companions. You can queue both of those Abilities up at the same time, go, close out of the pause-time menu, theyâll both execute, both Abilities will happen, then the detonation AOE happens, applies debuffs to all the enemies in a radius of it, itâs so satisfying, itâs so satisfying, I canât wait for yâall to see it. But the interesting thing is that too is a tactical choice. Iâm choosing to use my companions to do that, and that means, in that moment, Iâm not using them to heal me, or to give me that defense bonus, or to knock an enemy off a ledge, so itâs about the opportunity cost. I, I could spend the rest of the session talking about this, I, apologies for being long-winded, but this is just one of my favorite parts of, of the game.
Katey: That was a great answer. Can you choose Rookâs pronouns? If yes, being, is being non-binary an option? And also, how detailed is Character Creation?
Corinne: Hell yeah you can select your pronouns! Absolutely. You can actually select both your pronouns and your gender, because those are related concepts, but theyâre not actually the exact same thing, so. Itâs really cool. Yeah, you can be non-binary. We have they/them, she/her, he/him. Yes, emphatic yes. How detailed is the Character Creator? Oh my goodness, yâall. Like. Very! I donât wanna give away too much just yet, but itâs very, very deep. It has been revealed, itâs out there in a couple of articles, about the focus on hair, the focus on skin-tones that are done respectfully, full-body customization, hell yeah, we love to see it. But weâre, weâre gonna, weâre gonna come back, weâre gonna show you a lot more on Character Creator, but we wanna make sure we have the time and space to, to do that.
Katey: Will there be a Photo Mode in-game?
Corinne: So that is something weâre actively looking into. We know thereâs a tonne of interest, so stay tuned on that one. But we are very much looking into it.
Matt: I can add to that, is a feature that is, that, we like, we like the idea of, and, and, itâs not just player-facing but internally, itâs a really helpful thing for us as weâre, as weâre building things out to have that so itâs, itâs, weâll let ya know.
Corinne: Yes, yeah, absolutely. We, we are as geeked on that possibility as you all are.
Katey: A lot of people were asking about Abilities. This one is from Clemmy. Abilities, I donât think I saw this answered yet, but are we going to be limited in how many Abilities we can pick from the Wheel?
Corinne: Ah! Yes, yes, yes. So, Ability Wheel does have a capacity. You have to choose which three Abilities you wanna bring for Rook, which three for one of your companions, and which three for another companion. And what I, what I like about this is there is, kind of, an emergent gameplay depending on who you and your companions are coming into the mission with. Now the reason for that is, it actually creates really interesting balance of strategizing, having to do that strategy about your kit, your combat kit, before the mission. And then the tactical decisions once youâre in the field in combat, deciding what to do. But, I do wanna clear one thing up, because, while there are three Ability slots for Rook, thereâs so much more than that. Other actions that you can perform directly from the Wheel include, youâll have an Ultimate Ability, associated with your class or your specialization, so thereâs variance there. Thereâs a type of items that youâll get that function like Abilities, theyâre typically like buffs and enhancements in form of Runes. So youâll control that for Rook and/or the team from the Wheel. You may have also seen that you can direct which targets your companions will focus on, but what you might not know is that a lot of the companion gear really synergizes with that directing your companions. When you issue those commands, that too will proc based on the gear they have equipped. Really interesting and strategic effects. They can be more Ability-like, more, like, procced effects, thereâs just so much from the Wheel, that once you get in and see everything working together, becomes more and more apparent.
Katey: We have another question from TastefulToxel which is, will Fireball and Cone of Cold be back as skills, or as spells in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
Corinne: Ohh, I love, all these combat questions, really good. So Fireball and Cone of Cold arenât specifically back, however, their successors are. Frost Nova and Meteor. So these serve the exact same combat role and function as those other Abilities. I would also say, it gives âem quite the glow-up, so. Meteor in particular, like, so satisfying nuking a group of darkspawn with a well-placed Meteor, itâs really wonderful.
Katey: What accessibility features are available? I would love to know if thereâs an arachnophobia mode. Will there be mod support?
Corinne: Oh my goodness, arachnophobia. I am wicked afraid of spiders too, my partner always laughs at me. Iâm just terrified of them. That said, thatâs one weâre going to save for a little bit closer to launch before weâll go into full details about accessibility features. But I do wanna assure you, weâve spent a lot of time thinking about this topic so you can play the game in a way that really works for you. Iâm, Iâm excited to share that with you when the time is right.
Katey: So this one is from a username named Cookie. How long is the time-skip from Inquisition to The Veilguard? I know weâll probably get more info on this, but Iâm so curious.
John: Yeah, so, anyone whoâs paid attention to Dragon Age, and I can say as somebody whoâs been on Dragon Age since Origins, timelines are always a little iffy. They change, and they morph over development as we see how long events taking. But, for The Veilguard, we were actually pretty consistent from the start. Itâs been about ten years since the events of Trespasser. As you may or may not have noticed, Varricâs become a little bit of a silver fox. I know, Iâve heard, seen, Iâve seen a lot of comments on that on social media, but, yeah, ten years. Solasâ ritual is taken time to set up and youâre kinda coming in at the end of that hunt, so.
Katey: Siddy is asking the hardest-hitting question which is, is Solas still bald?
Matt: Yeah. I mean, if youâve watched the gameplay thing, we can all confirm, yes, Solas is still bald, Solas is still Solas. Weâve, weâve, I really, I really like how Solas has turned out this time around. I will say, hereâs a comment on this specific question thatâs gonna sound like a non-sequitur, but, once you get a chance to play it a little bit more, maybe youâll see it. In Thedas, ancient elves, they go bald when theyâre like millennia old, so. Solas wasnât always bald. So if you were to end up, end up seeing what Solas looked like in the past, things might be a little different. Youâll have â
John: - Now, now that said, Iâm sure some of you are wondering what happened to Solasâ wig from Tevinter Nights. Iâm sure he still has it somewhere, so.
Katey: Heâs just taking care of it elsewhere.
John: Heâs just taking care, itâs, itâs his most important possession.
Corinne: The Pride there, huh?
Katey: I have another one for Matt. This is, will we be able to, will we be able to change companionsâ appearances and outfits, or are they fixed, similar to Dragon Age II?
Matt: Yeah we, Dragon Age II was, we loved how the followers turned out in that but it was, it was sad given, given our constraints that we had to keep them with just one, one basic outfit. So we really tried to make some space for them this time around. So theyâre, they still have, kindâve iconic color palettes and things like that, but they do have a wider range of appearances that you can, that you can find for them. Some, some are just cool, but then there are some that are tied directly to their, to their narrative and just kinda whatâs happening in their life.
Katey: Another one for ya, which is, will we be seeing or visiting Kal-Sharok? Itâs, and, Tyrant says that theyâve been obsessed with it forever.
Matt: Yeah, me too. I, I will say, whatâs, whatâs been really cool, so in previous games, weâve kindâve alluded to this before. It was a lot of fun to hint at the locations that were off the map, the mysterious places that you werenât gonna go, you werenât going. And so you could just bring in some props or some characters, a piece of art, things like that, and you know, even Tevinter was only vaguely hinted at and then we would just add drips and bits and pieces, so that stuff was really fun. In The Veilguard, weâre actually getting to visit, most, like a whole lot of those locations that had only been hinted at for real, so you actually do run around Tevinter and a bunch of the other locations that weâve revealed. But this also means, like, weâre not completely filling out the map, and so that there are actually new things that we can start hinting at, that we can start drip-feeding, and so, itâs, itâs kindâve fun. Iâd say, yeah, for what we can show of Kal-Sharok, and, and other locations, itâs just, thereâs, thereâs more to do.
Katey: Awesome. MrFightmonster118 asks, will the dialogue wheel slash options be similar to Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda in the sense that itâs more tone-based?
John: Yeah, so, we have a number of different types of wheels in our game. All the dialogue wheels are based off the same principle. Anyone whoâs played a Dragon Age game remembers what they look like. In Dragon Age: The Veilguard we have tone wheels which are, you know, again, roleplaying your character, picking consistent tone. We also have emotion wheels where you can pick specific emotional reactions. And choice wheels which are, I donât have a strong emotional or tone tie here but I do want to make a choice based on what I do. Investigates obviously return as well, but. We do want players to understand as much as possible what it is theyâre going to be picking, and understand, and again, choice and consequence is fun, we wanna make sure the choice is clear, even if, again, one of the best parts about consequence is making sure thatâs not entirely clear, so.
Katey: How extensive are Rookâs decision trees for dialogue going to be with the companions and also with NPCs throughout the game?
John: Huge. I mean, again, itâs a Dragon Age game, we wanna make sure you have choices, we wanna make sure you can choose both your roleplaying but also choose outcomes of conversations, choose how events unfold, so, I mean, again, itâs a Dragon Age game, we wanna make sure that we also react to decisions youâve made, so. For example, you may be talking to a follower who is an elf, and if you yourself are an elf, obviously youâre gonna have a different perspective on events than someone whoâs not an elf. Sometimes that means different conversation options, sometimes thatâs going to mean entirely deep dialogue trees, as well as based off decisions youâve made throughout the game so, again, making sure that the game feels like itâs noticing what youâre doing is a huge part of how weâve written out the dialogue wheel, or dialogue trees, in this game.
Corinne: Blueberry has a question for Corinne. It was mentioned that there will be, that we will be able to romance who we like. Does that mean that all companions are romanceable by all player characters regardless of race or gender, as it has been in the past?
Corinne: Yeah, yeah. So, we have talked about this in some of the interviews, Iâve seen a few articles about it, so Iâd recommend everyone check out those articles. But let me just give you a quick overview. Each of the seven companions have full romance arcs and they are romanceable by all genders, absolutely. But something thatâs really important to, to us on the team, so I wanna make sure that we clarify and just double-down on, that doesnât mean playersexual. And if anyoneâs unaware of what we mean by that, it doesnât mean that they can form or twist their identities to who you the player are, like they, they wonât suddenly have a preference for men or women based on what youâre playing, right? Instead, they have their own fully fleshed-out identities, they are true and authentic to that. So in this game, they are all pansexual, with their own histories of romance. Sometimes youâll hear about preferences, or things of that nature. And what I really love is, if you donât pursue a romance with them, theyâll actually build their own romances with each other. So, in one of the interviews I talked about Lace Harding and Taash getting together. I give that example because honestly, itâs one of my favorites. Iâm gonna put a question back to the community, though. Iâve heard weâre going with âLaashâ for that ship-name? You tell me, like, what is that ship-name?
Katey: That one just rolls off the tongue, I feel like that works. This next question is from FallenArtesia. What are the markings on the faces of the elven Warden and Veil hopper?
Matt: So thereâs a, quite a few, probably, I think, easily more than weâve done before, tattoos from various, various cultures. Weâre bringing the vallaslin back, of course. But thereâs, yeah, ton of different options, especially when weâre, again, going into all these new regions. Each, each area has its own kindâve visual language for that. But yeah, we are bringing the vallaslin back and then a couple of the characters have them, but weâve kindâve customized them a little bit, theyâre a bit more specific to their personality.
Katey: And this is a question for all of you. What are you, what are you as a developer most proud of about the game, and what are you most excited for players to experience when itâs out?
John: Ooh, thatâs a good question.
Corinne: Isnât it?
John: Corinne, you wanna go first?
Corinne: Yeah, sure. Gosh. So I suspect for most of us, myself included, it is really gonna be the depth and authenticity of the companions, journeying along with them on their arcs, learning about their hardships, what they care about, being by their side, that, that authenticity is just so good. They all feel like my dear friends. But, I have to say, the closest runner-up for me, has to be the Character Creator, has to be. That Character Creator, the makeup options, the range of sliders. Iâm a qunari fan, so even just the, the way you customize the horns and combine that with the really great-looking hair. Character Creator has to be my, my, like very close runner up.
Matt: Oh yeah. For me, I would say, as far as, what, what I can say Iâm most proud of on this one, the, I can speak for the art team. We worked incredibly hard to make the story more visible than ever. Games are a visual medium, but, you know, itâs, sometimes itâs easier to do things in text format or written in a Codex somewhere or alluded to off-screen. But we really leaned in to trying to make sure that every design, prop, character, environment, the VFX weâre choosing, everything, all, all these choices, were putting the story on-screen so that you can really see it unfold. And I think, having worked on all of the Dragon Age games, I would say Veilguard represents one of the best attempts at that weâve made yet.
John: Iâm gonna cheat, because Iâm going last and I get to do that when I go last, and kinda combine both Corinneâs and Mattâs answer. Honestly, the companions are, for me, the absolute highlight of, just, being able to work across all the disciplines, building characters who look and sound and behave in very specific and characterful ways. These are the deepest companion arcs weâve ever done. Not just on Dragon Age, but at BioWare in general. Each, each companion has their own story arc, you can go through decisions you can make, they really do take center-stage, and I think, as you play through with them you see the care and love that the team has put into each and every one. I mean thereâs, thereâs moments in each arc that make you cry, make you angry, make you excited and, and the way that they integrate into the story as a whole is just, for me, something thatâs been really fun. Finding ways to bring these characters together, finding ways to make this, this narrative, this story of, you know, you need to put together a team and stop the end of the world, itâs just been absolutely exciting and thrilling. And again, you see the teamâs love in every single piece of it. As for what Iâm most excited? For me, Iâve been, I mean Dragon Age has been part of my career, part of my life for literally the last decade and a half. Iâve worked on it since Origins and thereâs something about The Veilguard that feels like a amazing mix of, novelty but also familiarity. Itâs like coming home in a way that I think is going to be very exciting for people who are existing Dragon Age players, but thereâs also so much here thatâs just new and exciting for people, new players and old players alike. And going to parts of the word, seeing things weâve never seen before, and just getting to take this amazing world, this amazing series and expand on it and build on it in ways that have just been, honestly, an absolute thrill, the best part of my career. And Iâve been in games for seventeen years now, this has been the absolute highlight for me, so. Thatâs what Iâm excited about.
Corinne: John, that was, that was such a good answer, and I just, I just wanna âyes, and -â that. It, I so completely agree with you. Thereâve been times in the companion arcs where even, knowing exactly whatâs going to happen, we work on the game, with some of these decisions, I, Iâve had to set down the controller, let out a heavy sigh and go âoh my god, what am I gonna do here?â Yeah, the depth of them is wonderful. And, I do wanna say, I, Iâd be, I wanna put this out there, when we talked about as a developer, what are we most proud of, can we just give a big shout-out to the dev team? I am so proud of them. This team has poured their heart and soul into this.
John: Absolutely.
Corinne: Anyone from BioWare whoâs listening in, thank you so much, yâall are just the best.
John: Hear, hear.
Katey: I absolutely love that. I knew that question was going to have some of my best, some of my favorite answers, and it delivered, so thank you three. This oneâs a fun one. Why does Varric have dark hair now? I feel like John mentioned this a little bit earlier, but.
John: Just for [inaudible].
Matt: Heâs been, heâs been adventuring for a while now. His hair is, is more gray, but heâs been in very dark scenes so far, so. Weâll see him in some more contexts.
Katey: In this question, we actually took from Tumblr, because there were a few really good ones in our ask box. Will the Inquisitor be appearing in the flesh, or are we just choosing their major Dragon Age: Inquisition decisions?
Corinne: Alright! Yeah, yes! They will. The Inky does appear. We know how attached yâall are to the Inquisitor, Iâve seen the love for your OC. Yes, the Inquisitor shows up. Now, we, weâd already confirmed that in a few places, so, let me just say, you can also customize them, includes some of our new customization options, yeah, theyâre gonna show up and theyâre gonna be your Inquisitor.
John: And I think, I think beyond that, I mean, the story of Solas and the story of the Inquisitor, obviously are tied, theyâre tied together as much as any story, so. It would have been strange for us not to bring them in for this one. They have, theyâre gonna be a part of the story, so.
Katey: Will there be any planned DLC? Just curious, as I always love the DLCs. Oh, and transmog armor. This one came from Lavell.
Corinne: Oh, heck yeah, good question. So, right now, our focus is entirely on the quality of the game. Like, itâs so important at this stage for us to be all-in, all attention on, just, finishing this game and delivering on the quality, the promise of it. So honestly, like, thatâs all I can really say about it. Weâre 100% focused on this being the most complete game we can make it. I will say, kindâve related to that though, and I just wanna underscore this, I wanna emphasize it. Thereâs not gonna be any microtransactions, thereâs not gonna be any battle passes, you donât have to connect online, our focus is making this the most complete singleplayer game we possibly can. Now, this was kindâve a two-for question, I love when we do that. Will there be transmog? Hell yeah. Iâm the kindâve player that, that believes fashion is the real end-game. Yeah, thereâs a transmog system, absolutely, itâs sick.
Katey: And then this next question is from Scott. I was asking if any of the characters will be explicitly asexual, or on the ace spectrum?
Corinne: So good. Such a good question. So, look, Iâm just, Iâm gonna be really forthcoming with yâall and a little bit vulnerable here. Iâm ace, Iâm a gray-ace, I donât mind sharing that, Iâm kindâve public with it. I will say though, that none of our companions this time around are explicitly ace. When we look at the characters, their motivations, who they are, we always assess, like is, is this the right time? This time it wasnât. But what I will say for everyone on the ace spectrum out there, I would love to represent an ace relationship sometime in the future when it feels like the most authentic fit for a companion, when we can do it best. Oh, and I do see some questions, you know, some questions, what do we mean by ace? Asexuality. We often refer to it as the ace spectrum.
Katey: Can mage Rook do blood magic? Will blood magic be a skill tree separate from regular magic?
Corinne: Okay. Um, this gets a little spoilery, so let me just say, Rook has some pretty good reasons to avoid blood magic. Rook is not gonna want to be interested in that. But I will say, the mage skill tree is packed with all kinds of spells, traits and perks to give you a ton of flexibility in your magic. Gonna go off-script just a little bit, because â
John: Oh no.
Corinne: Iâve seen, like, can you tell us about the specializations for mage? Iâm not gonna tell you the deets, but there is a necromancer one, there is an elemental one, and there is one thatâs actually more of like a combat mage, itâs my favorite.
Katey: Can we name the griffon? We also have a griffon emoji now in this Discord server.
John: Excellent. So, someone on your, in your party, again, spoilers, may have already named the griffon, but, donât worry, Assan is a very good boy, so.
Corinne: All these griffon emojis are, yâall are killing me.
Katey: Yeah, I love that, griffons in the chat. Let's see. Will we have a camp/home/headquarters that weâll be able to customize?
Matt: Well this time around, in Inquisition you had Skyhold. In this case you have a headquarters called the Lighthouse. More to be seen on that. But, itâs, it, narratively it, it serves kindâve a different purpose but also the same purpose. As far as customization goes, there are elements of it that change over time, and some things that you can adjust. I, I donât know how much weâre really going into that at the moment.
Katey: This one is â
Matt: But yeah, I would say, itâs like, thereâs some, it, one thing I like about it is it definitely does start to feel very much like a home over time.
Katey: Sorry for almost cutting you off there Matt. We have another very hard-hitting question, if I'm, if I do say so myself.
John: I love this one.
Katey: We need to - Same. We need to know, does pasta and noodles exist in Thedas? Thank you.
Matt: Well, and Iâll take it as a chance just to geek out about worldbuilding, because, again, weâre, The Veilguard for us is a really kinda dream opportunity to go to places that weâve only ever heard reference to, or weâve seen hints at. And so, in going through the worldbuilding process and trying to, trying to build these places out, not just as neat things from the IP but also as, you know, if youâve, if you've read about this stuff, if youâve been following along, youâve got your own version of it in your head. Youâve imagined what it might be like, youâre, and probably hoping for something spectacular. And our brains are always far better at creating this stuff than any game developer, any artist, or anyone can really do justice to, so you really have to swing for the fences to make something very satisfying and exciting. You know, is, that can be everything as big as architecture and landscape and biomes and ecosystems, but it does get into things like art and culture, costume design, and also food, and this time around we did, you know, that was one of the many things that we, that we did, looking to, just to try to catch the character and the feel of a place to make it feel believable and lived in, so. Thatâs my really long answer for, yeah, Iâm sure, I've, at least one place does have pasta.
Katey: I loved that. This next question is from Spectre Karro. Are we getting a mabari?
John: Ooh, thatâs a good question. I will say, youâre spending most of the game in the north of Thedas. Mabari are not nearly as big of a thing up there, so. In this particular instance, no, you will not get a mabari, sadly.
Katey: Honestly, I shouldâve pulled this one up to where we answered the first question about the griffon, but, can we pet the griffon?
Matt: You, Iâm really sorry to have to be the one to tell you â nah, Iâm kidding, yes you can. But itâs not even just petting the griffon. Iâve, this isnât a spoiler, I think you can actually, Iâve actually hugged the griffon, so, that feels like, even there, a step up. Yeah.
John: Thereâs lots of opportunities to interact with the griffon.
Corinne: Can we see, can we see Assan in chat if we wanna see him in the Lighthouse hanging out?
Katey: Assan in chat everybody.
Corinne: Assan in chat, alright!
Katey: I love it.
Corinne: Okay, yâall this was so important to the team too. Like, this is the teamâs like, just such huge support for this feature, so props to them.
Katey: This one is from Coriander. Will we get to see any of the Character Creator before the game releases?
Corinne: Yes, yes you will. Weâve got a, youâve probably seen, weâre laying out a roadmap for, you know, what weâre gonna show and when weâre gonna talk about, so, yes you will see it as we get a little bit closer to launch.
Katey: And then weâve got this question which is, will we be able to play as a qunari, dwarf, elf, or human?
Corinne: Hell yeah, hell yeah you will. All four, and all four have that full-body customization. I already talked a little bit about, I mean listen, Iâve always loved the qunari. I will say in Dragon Age: Inquisition it was hard to get a good-looking qunari hairstyle, so yes you can play as them, you can customize them, the horn options are rad, the hair options are rad. And also, I guess related to this, your lineage gives you a lot of really unique dialogue options, so thatâs a really lovely aspect of choosing your lineage as well.
John: Yeah, I would, so to actually just to bounce off that, to an earlier question about backgrounds, each lineage, there, depending on the lineage you choose and the background you choose there are some specifics call-outs to, for example, if itâs the Mourn Watch, the Mourn Watch being a faction from Nevarra of mages, you play as a dwarf, obviously your experience in that faction is going to be different than, say, a human or an elf, so. There are also specific call-outs tailored to those combinations and, with again, giving, the intention of giving each lineage their own little flavor as to how they're, they fit into that faction as a whole.
Katey: Okay, John, Iâve got a question from someone named Joe for you. Where is Barkspawn and is he okay?
John: Thatâs a Great question. Barkspawn is safely gnawing on a bone next to a fireplace somewhere in Ferelden, donât worry, heâs fine. You may question, ask yourself, but John, itâs been so long, in which I say, mabari live exactly as long as they need to.
Corinne: Getting into the deep-cut questions now.
John: Deep-cut questions, yeah.
Katey: Yeah. We are really speedinâ through these. Letâs see. Will Rook have a set of default name?
John: Yeah so, Rookâs last name is defined based on their faction, again, we wanted to tie that into your backstory, but also, thereâs a, thatâs a name generator that can give you a selection of first names. Obviously if you want to make your own first name, thatâs definitely something we support as well. If youâre somebody who maybe has a little bit more difficulty coming up with a name, so for example you name every single character âBobâ because thatâs the only name you can think of, we also give that opportunity for that generation, so.
Katey: I definitely always have trouble coming up with what I wanna name my characters, so thatâs great. This next question is, when will the voice acting cast be announced?
John: So, we worked with a lot of very talented actors on this one. I am super excited to talk about the voice acting cast. Weâll be talking a bit more over the summer, weâre not quite ready to announce names yet.
Katey: And I think we have a similar answer to this next question, which was, will there be a Collectorâs Edition? When can I pre-order?
John: Yeah, same answer, we have, weâll talk more about the different editions of the game soon.
Katey: Are there any special musical guests writing the sound-track? Will tavern songs return.
Corinne: Oh my goodness, yeah. There are tavern songs. And huge credit to the audio team and performance teams because theyâre pretty great. Thereâs one in a little tavern in Minrathous called The Swan, and the song you hear there might just, it might be, itâs up there, it might just be my favorite of the tavern songs.
Katey: Letâs see, are there any â ope, I have just asked that one. What are the required PC specs?
John: Much like the other two, we will have more information on required PC specs soon.
Katey: Saph from the Discord server noticed that two, Dragon Age IIâs main theme from the soundtrack brought back much of the iconic thematic material of Originsâ main theme, but I heard less of it in Inquisitionâs. Can we expect The Veilguardâs main theme to recall more or less of that original thematic material than Inquisition?
John: So weâre not, weâre not quite ready to talk about music yet in specifics, but in broad strokes I can say the process for us is always the same. Working with the composer, working, figuring out themes, figuring out what kinds of elements we want to keep, tying specific elements to, maybe specific characters. Itâs a really in-depth process and a really collaborative process. We have some fantastic audio people on our team that have done an amazing work, amazing job, working with composers, and, with the team as a whole to make sure that, again, we said earlier about cohesiveness. Making sure that the music feels like a cohesive part of the experience.
Katey: And this one, I see is also for John, but I think anyone can answer this. When writing the overall story of this game, what themes did you want to have as the prominent focus?
John: I mean again, itâs interesting, so itâs interesting, because when we were writing these games, and this has been true on every Dragon Age Iâve been part of, what you start with and where you end up arenât always necessarily the same. Sometimes you start writing out a theme, you realize actually itâs more interesting if we attack from this angle, or maybe if we twist it a little bit. I will say for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, from the beginning one of the biggest themes has been regret. How regretâs shaped peoplesâ lives, how people deal with their regrets, how people maybe move past their regrets and, each of the characters, you know, the stories as a whole, have elements of this tied throughout. We really wanted to have that thematic, that cohesiveness to the gameâs story and the gameâs writing so.
Katey: And I know that, you know, weâve, we've kindâve already answered this a few times, but can we play as dwarves and does the world react to your race and backstory? Probably be good to just directly answer that one.
John: Yes you can play as a dwarf. Yes the world does react to your race and backstory. And, again, youâll have unique dialogues or unique conversation options based on that, on that backstory and as well as that race.
Corinne: Iâll give you a little nugget here, because I saw it scrolling through real quickly. Do you have beards, like. So when I think about can I play as dwarves I think about, do we have glorious fantastic beards? Hell yeah, we do.
John: Yeah, I can say, as somebody who plays a lot of games with character creator, the beards on, I donât know what magic the character art team did for the beards, but they feel like a beard should feel like, itâs great. They look awesome.
Corinne: Just saw somebody say âitâs beard timeâ, I love it. Itâs beard time!
Katey: Will our heroes and companions leave us if we go against their wishes?
Corinne: Oh my good â do yâall just love pain? Do you want us to make you cry? If you go against their wishes, if you make decisions they donât like, I will tell you, you can piss them off, you can, they might not agree with you and they, they will take some time away. That said, this is the biggest threat to Thedas weâve ever seen, so theyâre, they are always gonna be willing to show up to defend Thedas but, yeah, you can piss them off and theyâll leave for a minute. As it relates to them showing up to defend Thedas, well yeah, they will, unlessâŚ
John: No spoilers Corinne!
Corinne: Aughhh, Iâll leave it there, Iâll leave it there.
John: No spoilers.
Corinne: Okay, alright, alright. But they want it!
John: Yep.
Matt: Donât try to stop me, Smee!
Katey: This oneâs a fun one about some inspirations for the game. Dracanmo would like to know if any songs, books, movies or anything have had inspired any of the writing for the characters?
John: I mean, honestly, the thing about art is, art is always a synthesis of your own experiences both in the real world but also the art you consume, the art you pay attention to. I donât think that any characters have what I would describe as, this character was a direct reference or direct inspiration but, I mean, yeah, theyâre all inspired by the things that we do, the things, both, again, in the real world, and also in the media we consume. And youâre gonna see elements of characters that, yeah, the things that weâve enjoyed, the things thatâve shaped us, show up in these characters. I think, for me, itâs, it comes down to, and I, I, writing is a deeply, can be a deeply personal experience, so even if you donât intend for it to be the case, things, parts of you are going to show up in your character, I think thatâs true for all the characters in The Veilguard. And, you know, sometimes itâs, exploring, exploring the, yâknow, things that, about yourself that you may like or may not like, and itâs also about exploring things about characters that you like or donât like, so. Thatâs kinda my long-winded way of saying yes, itâs impossible to not have that happen when youâre creating art. But I wouldnât say that thereâs one where you can say, oh this is this character, this is this character.
Katey: What was the thinking process behind making Harding a companion this time around? Was she always going to be one or did it evolve into one because she was such a lovable character?
John: Ohh, yeah. So Harding, I mean. When we released Inquisition, it was impossible not to see the love that people had for our murderous girl next door dwarf. Sheâs always been a fan favorite obviously, but I think beyond that, itâs something that there, that Hardingâs writer wanted to explore. There was more of a story to tell there, more perspective, and beyond that, Harding obviously has a strong connection to Solas, and to the, to Varric, and to the events of the past ten years, so. I wouldnât say itâs always been, but Iâd say Hardingâs probably one of the first ones we settled on as like, yes, this is a character we want and the writer had a story that they wanted to tell with her, so, it just made sense.
Matt: You know, I think actually, to piggyback on that, thatâs something I hadnât really even thought about that much, but, and itâs not a huge part of her character, but, she tends to be one of the people that have the most insight into he was.
John: Yeah, thatâs exactly it, thatâs exactly, and yeah, thatâs a great way of looking at it too. It also provides you with a little bit of that, that perspective. For players whoâve been around, you know, who played with previous Dragon Age games, but also for new ones, who was Solas? What kind of character was, was he?
Matt: Yeah.
John: Yeah, itâs a great, itâs a great, using characters to provide windows onto the world is honestly one of my favorite things.
Matt: And, and when I say was, I just mean, in Inquisition.
John: Yes, thatâs, thatâs exactly it, yes. Thank you for correcting that.
Matt: Yeah.
Katey: And what approach are you taking to quest and world design in The Veilguard?
John: I think for us it just comes down to relevance and narrative heft. We want to make sure that each quest provides either a perspective on the world or perspective on the characters, or feels immediately and obviously relevant to what youâre, what youâre doing here. Youâre here to save the world and, again, at the end of the day, one of the things that we heard, we heard loud and clear, was some feedback about how relevant, or in this, in our case, not relevant, previous quests have felt, so for Veilguard, we really wanted to make sure that these quests felt like something that you, somebody faced with the end of the world would believe was necessary and important. So, again, thereâs quests of all sorts and sizes, but all of them share that same feeling of, this is the kind of thing that The Veilguard would do. This is the kindâve thing that my hero would do, especially faced with the end of the world.
Corinne: Yeah, thatâs, thatâs really good John. Thatâs so right. I would just, again, double-down on how hand-crafted all the quests are, and whether, whether youâre doing, like, the main story, or youâre journeying with your companions, or youâre out exploring and you encounter a mystery. Everythingâs handcrafted, intentional. We spent a lot of time listening to what yâall said, and of course everyone has slightly different tastes, but, you know, youâre not gonna be gathering shards in the Hinterlands. Everything is built with intention, and, you know, a dev there lovingly handcrafting the experience.
Katey: Are there any locations in the game that can only be accessed by making specific story choices?
John: So I donât wanna get too much into spoilers here because this does start getting into spoiler detail, but I will say that locations can fundamentally change based on decisions you make. Some of the parts of the world that you go to, you can have, the decision, the choices you make have an impact on how these spaces exist and develop, so, yeah, and again, donât wanna too many into, into story spoilers, but, your decisions do impact how the world shows up.
Katey: And will we be able to control our companions in combat through tactical mode, or if the PC, or player character, gets KOâd, like in previous games?
Corinne: Right, so. If Rook gets KOâd, your player character gets knocked out, this time around it is time to re-load your save, or better yet, the companions have really interesting progression, you can spec them out to be able to revive you, but thatâs, thatâs if youâve invested in their own progression and what they can do. And that said, I, I mentioned this earlier but I, I personally spend more time in the nature of this combat system when everything comes together, interacting and directing the companions than I have in any of the other games, so, like, like that, that interactivity between them, once you play it youâll see how, just engaged the team is.
Katey: A user named Itâs Sarah said, my real most important Dragon Age question is, will Solas still occasionally or dramatically speak in iambic pentameter?
John: You know, I was, I actually spent a little bit of time trying to figure out if I wanted to answer this question in iambic pentameter and then I very quickly gave up. Massive kudos to Patrick who, who always writes Solas so well. Again, Solas is a returning character, itâs the same Solas you know and love, or hate, depending on who you are. Same writer, so, I think, this has been, the answer is, well of, yeah, itâs Solas.
Katey: Will our decision of who in particular was left behind in the Fade be important?
John: So, while that decision does not show up, that â sorry, let me, restart. Not for The Veilguard. That decision doesnât show up here. Now, that said, that doesnât mean thatâs thatâs not a decision that will ever be important in the future, so. Again, not for this one, though.
Matt: Iâm glad to hear you say that, John, because one of my favorite stories was Bob getting stuck in the web in reboot and it just feels like -
John: Thatâs a, thatâs a deep cut!
Corinne: Very, thatâs a deep cut.
John: Holy smokes.
Corinne: My goodness.
John: The sound of my childhood.
Katey: Will we have mounts again? If so, any hints to what types weâll have?
Matt: So no, no, mounts, excuse me. Mounts were, they were, they addressed a need in Inquisition that we donât have in Veilguard, and youâll see why, when you get to play.
Katey: LightningStar asks, how is the side quest design? Will they be mostly story-based, or will there be a lot of radiant quests or resources or Power, like in Inquisition?
John: We talked about it a little bit earlier, but, no, they are all hand-crafted and story-focused. Again, narrative, the companions, not just the companions but the characters in the world as a whole are so much at the core of The Veilguard that, anything other than hand-crafted quests just felt like it would be a disservice to the game we were building.
Corinne: Yeah. And maybe, we can clarify as well, because, like Power was such a divisive mechanic in Inquisition. Thereâs no mechanic like that that blocks your progression until you fill a bar, right, like thatâs just not a thing in this. You have the autonomy to engage in these, these quests as you like. Thereâs no, like, y'know, grind-out gates before you can progress.
John: Thatâs right, yeah. Again, we wanna make sure that, again, that doing this content feels as natural and part of the logical flow of the story as possible.
Katey: So, it looks like we only have time for three more questions, so Iâm going to get through those. With this next one, is from someone named Jason. Will there be a similar system to the War Table missions?
Corinne: Ooh, interesting. So, we havenât talked much about the playerâs base, the Lighthouse. And weâre gonna save that for a beat, but what I will say is that the Lighthouse, your headquarters so to speak, it has its own unique purposes and functions this time. So thatâs an area that weâll, weâll leave for you when we talk more about the Lighthouse, and then when you have a chance to hop in, youâll be able to see what those unique purposes and functions are.
Katey: If there is dual-wield for warriors, will it rely on dexterity or strength?
Corinne: Ah, okay, yeah, yeah. So we did wanna bring dual-wielding back. It is part of the rogue kit this time. So warriors are really focused on mighty two-handed weapons, canât wait til you see, when you swing and connect with those weapons, thereâs, thereâs a real heft to it. And then of course sword and shield, so. Weâre leaving the dual-wielding to the rogues, but you, you can see just, the amount of hits you can get in in rapid succession dual-wielding as a rogue is really satisfying.
Katey: And the last question that weâre able to get to today, is, what have been some of the challenges and advantages of working on a single, on a single game for so many years? How did you sustain the work in yourselves and the process?
John: That is a fantastic question. I will say for myself, Iâve often joked, and I donât know how much of a joke it actually is, that when this game is out and I suddenly donât have to keep all these pieces of game and lore and story and everything straight in my head, Iâm suddenly gonna be able to speak Latin or something because thereâs gonna be a ton of brainpower freed up. But for me itâs just, you know, it's, the thing that keeps me sustained is just knowing the game that weâre building is the right one. Knowing that the beats are coming together, and knowing just how much people care about this franchise, care about these games, and how excited people are going to be when they get to see the fantastic work that the team has, has been doing. And that really is, I can say, Iâve been on this project since the start, and even today, I see things on a daily basis, Iâm like holy â smokes, sorry, I almost swore, I canât believe what the team is doing, I canât believe the, how good this looks, I canât believe. Because itâs a huge game. Thereâs pieces that I, I donât see every piece of the game every day so, I get pleasantly surprised on a daily basis and that, I will say, you know, confession, sometimes if Iâm having a particularly long day, Iâll spend about an hour late at night just watching cutscenes coming in, watching the work coming together and just, sitting back and being like, holy smokes, I cannot wait for someone who hasnât seen this every day for so long as I have to experience this and just be blown away by the work, so.
Corinne: It's, itâs been very real, hasnât it? And, and I will just say, speaking on behalf of the dev team, everyoneâs working so hard, theyâre putting so much passion, so much of themselves into it. Like this is a franchise they truly love, and seeing your support, cheering us on, itâs just meant a lot to them, so, let me just say thank you to all of you.
Katey: And I wanna say thank you to you three for taking the time to do this. I know that it matters a lot to the community to be able to, you know, get some time with you guys and, you know, make sure that some of their dying questions are, are answered, so thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to do this. For anyone whoâs still listening I promise that Iâm that Iâm working on a way for these questions to be immortalized somewhere. Stay tuned for that so that you donât have to worry about this, just, you know, disappearing into the ether. So, stay tuned, thank you all for your time. Anything else we wanna say before we jump off?
Matt: Thanks everyone.
John: Thank you. Yeah, Iâm super excited to show more of this and, yeah, this is gonna be, hopefully this is the first of many of these opportunities to talk to you all directly. Again, itâs been a while, and getting to talk about this game has been absolutely exciting. I know for myself, as well for the rest of the team, so thank you all.
Corinne: Just thank you, itâs, the Dragon Age community, how much it means to you, how much it means to us, itâs just wonderful to see you all so invested and excited to come here and talk to us. Thank you again, truly.
Katey: We'll hopefully do something like this again soon. Okay, cool, have a great day everybody! Talk soon!
John: Bye yâall!
Matt: Bye.

i come barring a request for a poly!maraudersđŤĄđ
idk you ever do this with ur cat but when mine meows at me i respond back and pretend weâre having a full conversation, and now imagine reader this with her cat and sheâs roommates with lily so sheâs used to but then the boys see theyâre all thrown off and slightly worried.
now i bid you good day my lady đŤĄ
I've had this blurb like half finished for a while, but since we were all talking about our fur babies today, I thought it'd be perfect to finish and post! thanks for this cute request - hope it's what you were looking for
poly!marauders x fem!reader who talks to her cat
Remus felt sort of bad for Lily at the way the boys all deflated when it had been her who opened the door to your shared flat instead of you. Thankfully, the red-head just laughed and invited them all in.
âSorry to disappoint boys.â She jested as they all made themselves at home on your couch.
âOh, weâre always happy to see you, Lily.â James said at the same time as Sirius grumbled âyou should beâ, earning him a pinch in the ribs by Remus.
âHey!â Lily called down the hall. âThe boys are here!â
Remus winced at a painful sounding thump and a muffled. âOkay thanks! Iâm almost ready!â
The boys were very excited, if Jamesâ knee bouncing and Siriusâ impish smirk wasnât obvious enough. Lily had been gushing about how sweet her new roommate was and how she thought youâd get along really well with the group of friends, and sheâd been right. You came to two pub nights and the boys were hooked; constantly asking Lily for updates and if youâd be at the next one.
Lily had grown so tired of playing messenger that she asked you if she could give them your phone number, to which you had agreed.
The four of you had been in a group chat for nearly a month and a half before they felt brave enough to ask you out on an official date.
âWhere are you guys going tonight?â Lily asked as she sat in an armchair in the living area where the boys were waiting.
âWeâre going to the pub on 42nd.â James answered readily.Â
âThe one with the board games and vintage video games?â Lily clarified.Â
âYup. That way thereâs something for us to do if conversation lulls, and something for James to do with his hands.â Sirius explained teasingly, causing James to blush and lean into his side as if he were trying to hide inside of Siriusâ smaller frame.
âDonât tease the lad.â Lily admonished playfully. âHeâs already likely nervous enough. I donât think you lot have to worry about tonight though; conversation never lulls with her around.â
Remus tilted his head in bemusement at Lilyâs comment but never got to ask for clarification before he heard some muttering.
âWould you stop that?â He could hear you mutter quietly; barely any ire detected in your tone.
âPlease donât do this, Iâm already late.â You begged before a big crash took place. âFor fuckâs sa- why.âÂ
âYouâre not allowed to get ready with me anymore.â You declared to your bedroom. Remus shared a look with Sirius and James before turning towards Lily who only shook her head and brought her finger to her lips.Â
âDonât look at me like that!â You carried on. âIf you want to be here to see me off, you need to behave yourself.â
It was quiet for a few moments. âNo, knocking over my jewelry stand is not behaving.â
They listened to you shuffling around before you let out a big sigh. âI love you too, but you are stressing me out. Do you want to watch shows with Lily tonight while Iâm gone? Hm? Letâs go ask.â
Finally, you exited your room and made your way down the hall, entering the living area before pausing to take in the fact that the four occupants of your flat were all staring at you with varying levels of bemusement and amusement.Â
And trotting happily behind you was a small cat seemingly none the wiser to the fact that it just made its mistress look like a fool in front of her dates.
You chuckled awkwardly. âHow much did you hear?â
Lily snorted and pat her legs as an invitation for your feline friend, who happily agreed, hopping and curling up on the red-headâs lap.Â
âEnough to know that knocking over your jewelry stand is not behaving.â Sirius teased salaciously.Â
You groaned and moved to cover your face with your hands, but James was having none of that and quickly made for you.
âDonât hide that beautiful face from us; itâd be a shame if the only one who got to appreciate your date night look was your cat.â He commented as he gently pulled your hands away from your face.
You still looked awfully embarrassed but acquiesced. âA bad cat, at that.â You spat to the ball of fur currently sitting with your roommate without any real malice.Â
âOi!â Lily defended quickly, brushing broad strokes over the cat like the villain from Austin Powers. âDonât speak ill of Princess Bernadette the Third.â
âPrincess Bernadette?â Sirius asked bewilderedly at the same time as James murmured âthe Third?â
âBirdie, Lily. My catâs name is Birdie.â You corrected, not at all amused.Â
Lily raised her nose in the air. âWhen we stay home to watch Bridgerton without you lot, sheâs Princess Bernadette the Third. Now off with you, we have Ballâs to attend, and you have gentlemen to court.âÂ
Remus watched with a loving smile as you flushed furiously at that, laughing when it only deepened as Sirius suddenly stood and made his way for you, bowing with a flourish and pressing a kiss to your knuckles. âShall we, mâlady?â
You gave him an eye roll but Remus could tell it was mostly for show as you bore a sickeningly sweet smile and accepted Jamesâ elbow as you made your way to the door.
âHave fun you guys!â Lily called towards the door as Remus bent down to scritch Birdie on the chin.
âYou too, Princess Bernadette, Princess Lillith.â He offered with his most posh accent and a quick bow before joining his two boyfriends and their date at the door.

vlog day || matt sturniolo
matt x fem!reader
summary: you said yes to being in the vlog while spending time with ur best friends and your boyfriend.
warnings: none
word count: 1,1k
a/n: have a good day ily
âAre you filming already?â I asked sitting at the table and putting stuff in my purse.
I was cleaning it because I couldnât find my favorite lipstick anywhere.
âYes, you said itâs okay if we film the vlog with you right?â Nick asked me and I nodded.
âYes, yes look guys!â I looked at the camera and brought a gift bag closer to me.
âSo I said few days back that I wasnât feeling that good lately like you know mentally because I had a lot of work and stress. I came in here this morning and this was on the table with my name on itâ I showed the bag.
âLook what Chris and Nick got meâ I laughed showing the camera the coffee cup with triplets photos on it.
âWe know you love coffee so⌠you know you can look every morning at people who brings you joy in your lifeâ Nick laughed behind the camera.
âYes and you know whatâs the funniest part? They only put one photo of Mattâ I said and stood up when I saw Chris coming up with the new Dr Pepper.
âItâs finally here people letâs try itâ he said.
âHe is constantly talking about it letâs just get over itâ I whispered to the camera.
âI found your lipstick honey⌠oh your filming already?â Matt came from his room.
âAww Matt youâre not beating lover boy allegations ever againâ Chris laughed at him but Matt only rolled his eyes and gave me the lipstick.
âThank you Mattâ I smiled and wanted to peck his lips but I didnât.
I didnât want to push that I was already in the vlog. But I was exited and I said yes because us four actually didnât spent time together for a long time now. So I was excited for some fun with my boyfriend and his brothers.
âLadies firstâŚ.âChris gave me the can.
âOkay because if I die itâs on youâŚâ I say and I took a sip.
It wasnât bad but also it wasnât my favorite.
âMeh⌠itâs okay but I think you and Nick will like itâ I gave it back to Chris.
He made his brothers try and they had a talk about it while I went to put my converse on.
When we got into the car I sat in the back with Nick so Chris could be in front of the camera.
âSo we donât know where weâre going yetâ Chris said to the camera and we all looked at it surprised itâs on.
âWhat? I thought we can decide on cameraâŚâ he said.
âLetâs go to Melrose I want Happy Iceâ Nick said and I clapped my hands.
âYes! Happy Ice and pizza Iâm inâ I said and buckled my sit belt.
We were driving with Chris talking all the time and Matt crying about every dog we pass.
âWhen you explain something is impossible to know what youâre talking about⌠itâs like I spy game with 5 years oldâ I told Chris.
âWell I wanted to edge onâŚâHe started.
âOh you want us to edge you a little? OkayâŚâMatt said and I gasped.
âMatthewâŚ.âI hit his arm playfully.
âDonât even start y/nâ he said and looked at me in the mirror and I winked at him.
âAnyways⌠how much longer? I need to peepeeâ I said looking at maps.
âOh my god youâre worst than Chris sometimes babeâ Matt said.
I looked at him and laughed.
âWhat?â I asked.
âGuys.. thatâs what y/n always does. 20 minutes before we left she said she needs to pee but instead going to the bathroom she did like 100 other things and she forgot to go and its like that every time we go outâ Matt said.
âWoow sir what is this? Telling each other icks or what?â Nick asked looking at us.
âI would say about her hair in the bathroom everywhereâ Matt added.
âFair enough⌠I would say about your hair in the sink after you shave and we would be evenâ I laughed.
âAnd I would say your underwear under my couch when you guys forget you donât live aloneâ Nick said and I covered my mouth with my hand.
âShut up it was onceâ I said.
âNah like three timesâ Chris said and I covered my whole face with my hands.
âWe not putting this in the video and stop making her uncomfortableâ Matt laughed.
âWe were uncomfortable!â Nick yelled.
âOkay done with my sex life letâs talk about the weather or about how ugly is this persons outfitâ I said when we stopped on red.
âOmg but look they are so cute having photo shoot togetherâ Nick said and I smiled.
âAwww look how heâs holding her stuff for herâ I said.
When we got to the pizza place I ordered for us and looked at the boys filming in the corner.
âMatt please donât do that it actually sends shivers down my spine âI told him looking at him opening the water bottle with his teeth.
âHere I need to go to the bathroomâ I gave him order numer and went into the toilet.
We ate in the car talking shit about people and than we got to the happy ice and I was holding the camera.
âGuys if he wonât take cherry for me Iâm going to break up with him. I told him he needs to guess what I wantâ I whispered to the camera.
âHere I bought cherry flavored for you?â He came up to me with the desert and I smiled.
âAh still need that anniversary gift thenâ I said to the camera when Matt took it from me and looked at me confused but I only smiled at him.
We walked around while we ate and then we came back to the car. While we were driving I saw a very handsome guy and me an Nick made a funny face in the same time looking after him.
âThis guy was so hot!!â Nick yelled and I gave him high 5.
â I knew youâre going to say that!â Chris said.
ây/n Iâm not talking to you anymoreâ Matt said and I made a sad face.
âYou love me Matty he was like 4 you are a 10â I said and he smiled.
âSo technically you think Iâm a 10?â Chris asked.
âWell yes but then you open your mouthâ I said and everyone laughed.
When we came home I took my shoes off and sat down on the couch when boys finished up the video.
âOkay weâre done⌠that was fun thanks for coming with us and filmingâ nick said and he sat down next to me.
âI had fun too! I hope everyone is not going to kill me for being in the videoâ I said.
âTheyâre going to love youâ he said and I smiled.
âMovie night?â Matt asked from the kitchen.
âMovie night!â I said happily.
He smiled and me and I hugged a pillow close to me. I was so relaxed after spending day with them. Nick was right. They were my favorite humans in the whole world.

Do you like Kakashi's dogs? Let's talk about why there are eight of them.
another example of naruto's â¨cultural codeâ¨
contents | the eight dog warriors chronicles ¡ legacy ¡ eight confucian virtues. also look at the cuties love them sm
Naruto Vol. 10 CH 90
[ one dog is wonderful, I'm saying as the owner of a sweet little york terrier. two dogs are good, they won't be bored together. three dogs? yeah, cool! how are you going to walk them though? four? yes... look, maybe we have to draw the line h- wha- EIGHT? Excuse Me!? ]
surely, it's worth starting with the fact that eight is a lucky number in Japanese culture â everybody watched Hachi. of course, this is not the only cultural detail where the eight is mentioned. I want to pay special attention to a thing that I didn't know about until I googled it, and this is clearly what Kishimoto was doing homage to with Kakashi's eight ninken.
The Eight Dog Warriors Chronicles
Better known as NansĹ Satomi Hakkenden. and it's not just some kind of book, it's a novel, consisting of 106 booklets written by Kyokutei Bakin in XIX century. Hakkenden is considered the largest novel in the history of Japanese Literature. this is one of the main representatives of the gesaku genre, which includes works of a frivolous, joking, silly nature. further I will emphasize a few more times how damn popular this work is and how often it is reflected in culture.
here are some illustrations for these books
now let's talk about the plot. It's weird, but it's weird at samurai-dogs-story level so stay here.
In brief, the story tells about the commander Satomi Yoshizane, whose native lands were attacked by the army of a man, whose forces surpassed those of Satomi, and the samurai in despair swore to a dog named Yatsufusa that the dog would get his beloved daughter Fuse as a wife if he chewed that man's throat. surprisingly, the dog not only understood the owner, but also fulfilled his wish! after that the commander refused to keep the promise. however, Fuse, true to her word of honor, went with Yatsufusa to the mountains and became his wife. upon learning that his daughter was pregnant, Satomi, in a rage, sent a samurai to kill Yatsufusa and bring Fuse home. she stood up for the dog anyways and died with him. at that moment, eight pearls with hieroglyphs that denoted the foundations of Confucian virtue burst out of her womb. (...cheers for mythology, I guess)
Soon, eight dog warriors who were Fuse's spiritual children were born in different parts of Awa province. after going through hardships, they got together and became vassals of the Satomi clan, then won the battle, and soon reached peace.
some more illustrations made by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. from left to right: Inukawa SĹsuke (the dog warrior), Inumura Daikaku (the dog warrior), Princess Fuse (their mother).
the novel mainly tells about each individual warrior dog and his shenanigans in a funny adventurous way. huge fame has led to excerpts from Hakkenden being staged at the Kabuki Theater and mentioned in the anime and manga, such as Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, as it turned out, Naruto and so on. there's also a lot of films and video games.
The eight virtues
these are loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, love, honesty, justice, harmony, and peace.
they relate more to Chinese culture, but basically Hakkenden was inspired by it too. since I did not read the whole novel, I would still like to mention at least the values on which it is based, and which were embedded in the symbolism of this story. It's quite interesting to apply this to Kakashi's dogs. gives them more weight and depth.
It is also interesting to note that the reason why Fuse gave birth to dogs was also that her father was cursed earlier in the story in a way that his descendants would become depraved like dogs. in Japanese culture, dogs embody the duality of character: the same mentioned filth and depravity, and devotion and bravery. so as samurai. but this is a different conversation, more related to Kakashi and his dog poetry.
Did you get here? Here's an additional discovery for youâ¨
Pakkun's name (ăăăŻăł) is derived from the Japanese onomatopoeia âpakupakuâ (ăăŻăăŻ) which reflects the sound of munching.
Kakashi, that's very sweet of you.
thank you for reading this to the end âĄ

First Crush - 9
Although it fills you with anxiety, Bucky has asked you to trust him and that's what you are going to do. You and Bucky had a longer conversation that night after Abby went to sleep. He said he wouldn't take unnecessary risks on missions. You had to trust him on what's deemed as "necessary".
You both want to see where this relationship takes you. He doesn't want things to end even though you were ready to call it quits to save yourself & Abby from future heartbreak. Have you asked yourself why couldn't you have been attracted to someone in Accounting? Yes. A nice stable accountant who drove a reliable Toyota Camry. Nope, you had to fall for the Ex Hydra Assassin, turned Avenger. He's the one your daughter wanted too.
He is very thoughtful and sweet when it came to you and Abby. It would have been easier for him too, to finds someone else. He could have let you go & found someone who liked this Avenger lifestyle. Someone easier to date, who didn't have a kid.
Bucky is stretching out in the chair across from you after lunch. "There's this thing at the Compound next weekend. Stark's throwing a...party for the Agents & their families. You know, because our work doesn't affect only us, but the families as well. Its like a 'thank-you'." He gives you a smirk, because this fits in with the situation you both are going through. "There's going to be food, entertainment, rides & games for the kids. Then fireworks at night. I wondered if you and Abby want to come. I have a residence there, too. You both can pack an overnight bag and spend the night so we don't have to make the trek back into the city."
"Oh, wow! That's out in Westchester, right?"
Sitting forward & leaning against your desk, "I can pick you & Abby up in the morning and we can drive out together. I picked up a car seat, so Abby will be safe & sound."
Surprised, "you got a car seat?"
"Yea, when we went to the park I couldn't take you guys home because there was no car seat for Abby."
"Bucky. That is so sweet. You didn't need to do that."
"Of course I did. How else can I take my girls out?" He gives you a sweet smile and you're reminded that this is why you want to work things out with this man. He's so considerate & he's trying. He's making an effort to make this relationship work.
"I think Abby will lose her mind. We'd love to go."
"Great, its settled then." He walks around the desk and drops a kiss on your lips. "I haven't forgotten about our date either."
You smile, "You've been recuperating."
"I'm fine to go out. You let me know when you can get a babysitter, and I'm set."
"Ok. I feel so bad. I can't tell Abby we're going out because I KNOW she'll ask to come, too." You grimace, "And I don't want to share you," reaching to hold his hand. "I'm a mean Mama."
"It doesn't make you mean. We get this date & we're taking her to Westchester the following weekend."
"I'm not used to dating life with a child. You're the first person I've dated."
He smiles, "We'll stumble through this together." Giving you another quick kiss, "I've got to head out, I got a meeting. I'll talk to you later." You nod & watch him leave.
******
You were able to work it out with your neighbor to have her pick Abby up from daycare & keep Abby at her apartment so you can get ready for your date with Bucky. He wanted to do dinner and dancing. That sounds like such an old-timey date. The Flatiron Room between 5th & Madison Ave, plays 40's music, so Bucky made reservations. It was so much fun. You spend the entire night dancing. He's a great dancer. It felt like you were in one of those old Hollywood movies with Gene Kelly. You were so happy you were prepared for this date.
You made a 40's playlist and had little dance parties with Abby at home. You watched YouTube videos to learn 1940s dances. You wanted to surprise Bucky. You and Abby did a lot of improvising. Abby especially enjoyed a good twirl whenever possible.
"No Mama, like dis." She twists & turns her little hips to make her dress swirl out. "No. No." She frowns at you. "You do it wrong." She stops her dancing to grab your hips. "You needs to shake it."
"Excuse you! I am shaking it."
Rolling her eyes, "No, you needs more, Mama. More. Lookit, like dis." Again, she twist & turns her little hips.
"I'm doing exactly that."
She has the audacity to laugh, "No. No you not."
You do some exaggerated twist & turns & Abby starts clapping, "You dids it! You dids it!" She joins you in dancing again. "Good works, Mama!" You start laughing and collapse on the floor, out of breath. This kid! She stops to fall on top of you & cuddles. "You dids do good, Mama. I's proud of you," giving you a loud kiss on your cheek.
You recognize that she's mimicking the phases you tell her when she accomplishes things. Your sweet girl. Turning off the music, "Thank you, Baby. It's your bathtime. Go pick out your PJs and you can have 2 stories tonight."
"Ok, I pick out 3."
"I said 2."
Again with her cackling laugh, "I thought I heard yous say 3," as she runs down the hallway.

More Hearts Than Mine-Their Families Find out They are Moving in Together
~More Hearts Than Mine by Ingrid Andress~
Author's Note: N/A Summary: Luke and Y/N move in together Warnings: Swearing, Implied Smut Word Count: 2,078 Luke Hughes x fm!reader
Luke knocked on Jackâs door, waiting for him to be granted entrance. A dramatic groan left Jackâs lips, allowing Luke to walk inside the bedroom. âSo,â Luke started unsure of how to fully say what he wanted to say.
Living with his brother has been amazing, except heâs practically lived with Y/N the entire time heâs been in Jersey. He thought that now it would be time to make things official. He was added to the lease and they were planning on starting the move later this week. He has yet to tell anyone in his family about the whole idea.Â
He wants to avoid talking to Quinn about it since heâs so dramatically focused on the whole itâs your rookie year donât get distracted, a girlfriend right now probably isnât the best idea. So telling Quinn that he was planning on living with said girlfriend, would probably cause him to implode.Â
Jack, on the other hand, adores Y/N. He loved the idea of living with his brother but he also loves the idea of his little brother being happy.Â
âSo spit it out,â he muttered, lifting his gaze from his computer.
âUhm, Iâm moving in with Y/N this Friday,â he said, waiting for his brotherâs reaction.
âThatâs great, I mean you practically live there anyway,â he mumbled, shutting his computer screen. Jackâs eyes widened, âDid you tell Mom and Dad? Quinn?â he questioned. Luke shook his head. âGood luck with that,â he mumbled before opening up his laptop.
Luke stared towards Jack expectedly, waiting for him to say something about his objections. It never came. âWhoâs going to be easier to tell?â
âDefinitely Mom and Dad, they adore Y/N,â he explained. Luke nodded nervously. âYou could also wait to tell Quinn until after the season is done. You know how he gets,â Jack said, meeting Lukeâs gaze. Luke nodded as he pressed his lips together.
Luke sighed as he left Jackâs room and walked towards his room, the room that was now returning to a guest bedroom. He flopped down onto his bed as he pulled open his laptop. He began to FaceTime his Mom, hoping his Dad would be there too. Not wanting to have this conversation more than once.
It wasnât really a conversation. It was more him letting them know what the plan was. It only rang twice before his mom answered. His dad was sitting beside her with a wide smile. âHey honey,â his mom said as she answered the video call.Â
âHey guys, I wanted to tell you guys something,â he said nervously rubbing his hands together. Their faces both fell as his dadâs eyes widened.
âY/Nâs not pregnant is she?â his dad questioned. Ellenâs eyes widened as her mouth fell open.Â
Luke shook his head dramatically, âWhat? No! No! Dad, Iâm not stupid,â Luke said, letting out a breath he didnât realize he was holding. Both of his parents let out a sigh of relief. âI am moving in with Y/N though,â he said biting his bottom lip nervously.Â
They nodded slowly, âSo itâs been decided then?â his mom questioned. Luke nodded. âAre you sure, Lukey? I mean you guys are fighting for a playoff spot. Itâs your rookie year, itâs a lot to handle right now,â she expressed.
Luke nodded, prepared to hear those words from Quinn, not from his mom. But in hindsight, he shouldâve expected it. He looked towards the ceiling as he clenched his jaw.Â
âI mean, I practically live there anyway,â he began pouting his lip, âI mean, the only time Iâm back at Jackâs is when we have to travel for games. Iâm never there, Iâd rather have all of my stuff at Y/Nâs since Iâm always there,â he explained.
âSon, it may seem like it wonât be different but it will. Once all of your stuff is there, itâll be different,â
âGood!â Luke expressed, a smile forming to his lips, âSheâs-â he paused as he shook his head, âSheâs the one, Dad, whatâs the harm in starting the forever process now?â he asked. Ellen tilted her head back as she began to tear up.Â
Jim nodded as he smiled slightly, âAlright, I canât wait to see what you guys do with her apartment,â he said. Luke nodded his head as fought the smile on his lips.
âDonât tell Quinn anything yet, heâs just going to get pissed,â he asked and they nodded. They spoke for a few minutes longer before he hung up.Â
~~~
She sat on her bed, staring at her computer screen. She needed to tell her parents, she needed to tell them that in less than forty-eight hours her boyfriend would be moving in. Her dad may explode at the idea and she was terrified. Luke had texted her that he told his family and they approved. She quickly pressed the FaceTime button and waited for her mom to answer the phone.Â
She messed with the end of her t-shirt as she waited for them to answer. After a handful of rings, her mom answered. Her dad was sitting beside her. âHey sweet pea!â she answered excitedly. Y/N smiled nervously as he stared towards her parents through the video screen. âOh whatâs wrong?â her mother asked, her face falling instantly.
âYouâre not pregnant are you?â her dad questioned. Her mouth fell open as she shook her head dramatically.
âAre you crazy!?â she asked as she took in a sharp breath. âYou really think I would tell you that over FaceTime? Iâm barely twenty!â she let out. They nodded, sighing.Â
âWhatâs going on sweetheart?â her mom pressed.
Y/N took in a deep breath as she smiled softly, âI asked Luke to move in,â she muttered. Her momâs eyes lit up with so much joy but her dad remained stoic as he furrowed his eyebrows harshly. âHeâs moving in Friday,â she mumbled.Â
âOh wonderful, honey! Thatâs so exciting!â her mother expressed, her dad remained silent. Her mother nudged him slightly, practically begging him to say something. Instead he stood up and walked away from the couch, out of the view of the camera.Â
Her motherâs face fell as she stared towards her husband walking away. Y/Nâs eyes began to tear up as she watched him walk away. She clenched her fists and unclenched them as she looked towards her mom through the camera.Â
âSweetie, its just a lot for him,â she paused as she saw him take a glass and began to pour himself some whiskey.Â
âNo,â her dad let out grumply, âItâs too soon,â he continued, swallowing the whole glass in one swig.Â
âHoney, theyâve been together almost a year, thatâs a long-â
âWe didnât move in together until after we got married,â he said, pouring more into the glass.
Y/N fought the tears filling her eyes, hearing her fatherâs harsh tone. âAnd how many years ago was that? Your daughter is in love, she wants to take the next step. Stop being an ass and be happy for her,â her mother defended.Â
âSheâs my little girl!â he shouted back. Her mother tilted her head back.Â
âI thought you liked Luke,â Y/N mumbled, her voice cracking. Her mother tilted her head to the side, raising her eyebrows towards her husband. Y/N could hear her father take a sharp breath.Â
âI like the kid, Y/N, I donât think you too should be living together. Itâs too soon,â her dad said one final time before he stomped out of the kitchen and living area.Â
Y/N sniffled as she wiped a tear that fell on her cheek. Her mother looked back towards her, frowning slightly. âWhat do I do?â Y/N asked, a sob climbing her throat.Â
âYou-â her mother paused, smiling kindly, âYou two should move in together. Live in bliss, Iâll work on getting your father up to speed.â Y/N nodded as she met her motherâs gaze through the computer screen. âItâll be alright, my dear, I love you. Iâm going to go talk to him,â she winked towards her.
The doorbell rang throughout her apartment before it was being pushed open, âThatâs Luke, I gotta go,â she mumbled before ending the call with her mom. She shut her laptop as she stood up from the bed.
She pushed open the bedroom door to see Luke walking down the hall. He had a smile on his lips, it quickly faltered into a frown as he saw her teary expression. âHey, hey, hey, whatâs wrong?â he asked as he quickened his pace. He engulfed her in a hug. Running his hands up and down her back as she cried into his chest.Â
âMy dad freaked out about us living together,â she muttered into his chest. He clenched his as he shut his eyes.Â
âOh baby, Iâm so sorry,â he mumbled as he rocked her side to side slowly. She shook her head as she lifted her head from his chest. She met his gaze.
âDonât be, weâre going to do it,â she said, a sad smile forming on her lips. âI donât need his approval,â she mumbled. Luke tilted his head to the side before he brushed a piece of hair away from her face.Â
âYes, yes you do. My love, I know how much your dadâs opinion matters to you,â he let out as he scanned her features. She clenched her jaw, âIf heâs not ready-â
âIâm ready, Iâm ready for this,â she delicately hit her hands against his chest. âHeâll come around, I need this to happen. I need to wake up to you every morning. I need to know that this is for real. I canât know that until we live together,â she expressed. He nodded as he pulled her towards him again, hugging her tightly.Â
âOkay, my love. Weâll do it,â he muttered, pressing his lips to the top of her head. She hummed against his chest. âWanna hear something funny?â he asked, wanting to lighten the mood. She hummed again, âMy dad asked if you were pregnant,â he said. She pulled away, her mouth agaped, his eyes widened teasingly.Â
âMy dad asked the same thing!â she said. His mouth fell open.Â
âNo way,â he said while laughing.
~Friday~
Jack dropped the last box into the living room and let out a heavy sigh. He stared towards the pair, a soft smile on his lips. âIâve got two rules for you Lukey,â Jack muttered.
âHere we go,â Luke let out rolling his eyes as he pulled Y/N to his side.Â
âRule number one, never be late to anything. Iâm not your ride anymore so you better show up on time and donât make yourself look bad. Rule number two, donât have unprotected sex; Iâm not ready to be an uncle to my younger brother,â he said, a dry chuckle leaving his throat.
Luke nodded as he pressed his lips together fighting the smirk toying to his lips, âAlright, are you done?â Luke asked as he swallowed hard. Jack nodded as he rested his hands onto his hips. âOkay,â he said while nodding slowly.
âOh,â Jack mumbled as he looked behind him before he met Lukeâs gaze again, âYou want me to leave?â he asked. Luke nodded encouragingly, âYou donât want me to help you unpack or you know decorate a little bit. I mean your first apartment where you are actually paying for things, Iâm just checking to see if you-â
âJack!â Luke said while he tightened his grip around Y/Nâs waist. Jack chuckled as he nodded.Â
âFine,â he dragged out as he took a step backwards, âYou better be at Morning skate on time, big game tomorrow,â he mumbled as he quickly walked out of the apartment.Â
Soon, Luke and Y/N we're alone in their apartment. An apartment they share, just them. It was bliss and it was everything they had wanted. Sure, it was her apartment but now it was theirs. âSo what do you want to do first?â she asked, staring towards the collection of boxes scattering their living room.
She met his gaze, his eyebrows were raised as he was fighting off a smirk on his lips. âOh,â she let out while smirking. âOkay,â she muttered as they leaned towards one another kissing each other with so much intensity. She jumped into his arms as he took a hold of her thighs, guiding her backwards towards their bedroom.
TIDAL WAVE â LUKE HUGHES
luke hughes x fem! reader
summary: in which Markâs girlfriend and his best friend have a secret.
warnings: cheating, toxic/unwanted relationship(?), asshole-ish Mark at one point, NSFW!!, fingering, oral (f receiving), p in v (unprotected), choking/breath play, dirty talk, dom!Luke, please let me know if i missed any
notes: takes place at umich. this is less of a pure smut and more of an actual fic that just has smut. inspired by Tidal Wave by Chase Atlantic. (6.6k words)
i never meant for this to happen.
i didnât go into this wanting to break Markâs heart.
i was always the one who got cheated on.
i was never the cheater.
but then Luke happened.
he brought out a side of me that i never even thought i had.
Mark pushed us together, really. Luke needed a tutor, and Mark knew i had the highest grade in that class. he practically begged me to tutor his friend; make sure he kept his grade up high enough to continue playing hockey.
so, i said i would help.
Luke and i started meeting up during our free time. we would do our homework together, and i would talk him through the lesson and make sure he understood it all.
we started off with meetings at the library. then we switched to meeting at a diner; where we quickly learned that the new setting did not help in our studies. rather distracting us instead, which lead to less time being spent on homework, and more time spent getting to know each other.
through our diner meetings is where we learned that we had a lot in common. both being the youngest of three siblings, both loving movies and the same music, we became best friends. we lost our filters around each other, our conversations ranging anywhere from hockey to what we liked in bed.
maybe thatâs where i shouldâve stopped. i shouldâve drawn the line when we got so close that we started talking about our nightly activities. me complaining about Mark being too gentle and never seemingly wanting to hook up, and him discussing the girls that he hooked up with at parties, confiding in me that most of them ended up asking him about his brothers after the act.
our meeting location eventually changed again, first to the dining room table at sophomore house, typically backgrounded with Mackie and Dylan playing video games. and finally, to his bedroom, where we had no interruptions. no loud friends playing games, no hustle and bustle of waitresses, no distracting noises from others in a library. it was just us and our textbooks.
but then December seventh happened. Mackie and Dylan had left for their afternoon classes, Mark and Ethan out at theirs, and Luke and i were left with the house to ourselves.
we started out good. we sat on his bed, textbooks and laptops in front of us. then we got off topic.
one second we were discussing the homework, and the next, i was telling him about how i faked an orgasm the night before and i was still frustrated.
i didnât expect for him to offer to help me. or for him to kiss me. and i certainly didnât expect to kiss him back, or for it to lead to what it did.
but it happened, and now iâm too deep in. my heart is split between my boyfriend and his best friend.
we kept up our charade the next semester. claiming we were studying together for our current shared class, because we were great at helping each other. but as soon as the house was empty, every wednesday without fail, we found ourselves tangled in his sheets.
we were good at keeping our activities on the down low, for the most part. the guys had noticed that he quit sleeping around, and Luke was partially honest; telling them that he had a regular thing with a girl he really liked, but he was cautious to never drop my name.
i was caught at a crossroads. break up with Mark, my boyfriend of over a year? or put a stop to my activities with Luke, the only guy whoâs ever been able to satisfy my desires?
**
âbabe, you okay?â iâm struck out of my thoughts, by my boyfriend, his hand coming down on my knee, not exactly rough, but certainly not gentle in his inebriated state.
âhmm?â i hum, turning my head to look at him beside me on the couch. âyeah, iâm fine.â
another Wolverines win meant i was stuck at another team party. top hits blast from the speakers around us, red solo cups in nearly everyoneâs hand as they grind against each other.
the sophomore guys are crowded around the couch, playing a round of truth or dare, and iâm nestled up beside Mark, silently observing.
âokay.â Mark brushes off my out-of-character behavior, tuning back into the game.
âHughesy, truth or dare?â Ethan smirks and Luke rolls his eyes, a crooked smile plastered across his lips.
âtruth.â the guys âbooâ him, but he lets their disappointment run off his back. âiâm not doing an Eddy dare.â
âfine.â Ethan groans, stopping for a moment to think before his face lights up, and i know heâs about to ask something he desperately wants the answer to. âwhoâs the mystery girl thatâs put an end to your fuckboy ways, Hughesy?â
my body stiffens as Lukeâs smile drops, his gaze flickering towards me so fast that no one else wouldâve caught it.
ânice try.â he laughs the question off, sticking his middle finger up at his teammate. âiâm not telling you.â
âcâmon bro!â Dylan eggs on, nudging his friends knee.
âwe just wanna makes sure sheâs good enough for you!â Mark chimes in from his spot next to me, drawing Lukeâs attention towards us. he looks straight into my eyes before he faces my boyfriend.
âtrust me, youâd think sheâs plenty good enough.â he tells him, a smirk drawn on his face. at his next words, i bite my lip so hard, i think i may draw blood. âyouâd really like her.â
the guys howl, clapping their teammate on the back as he turns bashful under my gaze. his head drops down, a blush coating his cheeks before he stands up, a sound of disapproval falling over the group.
âiâm just going to get another drink.â he laughs, shaking his head. âanyone need anything?â
a chorus of ânoâs and âiâm goodâs come from the guys, and Luke looks at me.
âyou need anything, y/n?â i grow small under his stare, shy and meek.
âyeah, i need a refill.â i shake my empty cup and rise to my feet. âbut i can get it.â
i turn back to inform Mark that iâll be right back, but heâs paying no attention to me. already wrapped up in a conversation with Mackie about some video game.
i heave out a sigh, slightly embarrassed, and face forward once more, only to find Luke still waiting for me with pity filled eyes.
we walk together to the empty kitchen, everyone spread out around the rest of the house, only wandering in here to grab another beer and leave.
âyouâre playing a dangerous game, Luke.â i speak up as i pour a concoction of sprite and pink whitney into my cup. âhe could catch on.â
he shakes his head, chuckling. âtheyâre too drunk to catch on.â
âregardless,â i sigh, looking over at him as he pours another jack and coke, my hip leaning against the counter. âwe have rules for a reason, Luke. you canât do what you did in there. looking at me before you answer. those vague hints to Mark. itâs like youâre asking for us to get caught.â
âi say fuck the rules.â shrugging, he turns to face me. âlet âem find out.â
âLu-â
âyou deserve better, y/n.â he cuts me off, and i squeeze my eyes shut at his words. âi mean, he isnât even paying any attention to you. he rarely ever does.â
âstop-â but he doesnât.
âyou deserve someone who pays attention to you. you deserve someone who knows you. inside and out.â i huff out a chuckle at his innuendo, but tears sting my eyes, threatening to spill over.
âi canât, Luke. i justâ i canât.â i sniffle. blinking back the tears. âyou donât understand. our parents set us up, they think weâre good for each other. and if i break up with himâ if i break up with him, my parents will blame me for ruining their friendship with his parents.â
âis their dream of having their children date and marry so that your families can be intertwined, really more important than your happiness?â
Lukeâs hand lays upon mine on the counter. âbecause iâm sure itâs not. iâm sure theyâd understand that you guys just werenât meant for each other.â
i shake my head, adamant about my answer.
âno, i donât think they would.â i huff. âour moms have practically planned our wedding from the moment Mark and i were born. you shouldâve seen their reaction when we said weâd give a relationship a try. they basically straight out told us that we couldnât just try, we had to last, because if we donât, then we fucked up their friendship.â
Luke opens his mouth again to speak, but heâs cut off by Ethan stepping into the kitchen. i pull my hand back from the counter as if someone lit it on fire, stepping back from Luke as though to not seem suspicious.
âhey, y/n, you may wanna go in there. Mark is drunk, and you know what that means.â Ethan grimaces and i nod.
heâs hitting on other girls.
i thank him for telling me as i set my cup down, walking out of the kitchen and sparing a glance back at Luke, who watches me leave.
âcâmon, Marky.â i plaster on a fake smile that doesnât quite reach my eyes as i find my boyfriend. heâs locked in a conversation with a blonde that iâve seen in one of my classes, pulling out all his best tricks in order to try and charm her. âletâs go up to your room.â
âno thanks, mini. iâm good.â my entire demeanor deflates as i watch him brush me off, but somehow the nickname usage slightly makes up for it.
âMark, youâre drunk and youâre hitting on other girls, letâs go.â i try and speak with confidence, but my voice fails me; wavering on my last words. the blonde girl cringes, walking away when she realizes that heâs spoken for.
âmini, youâre killing my game.â he groans, finally turning to look at me.
âiâm your girlfriend, the only game youâre supposed to have is with me.â i sigh. âletâs go. you need to sleep off the alcohol.â
he whines, giving in and taking my hand, allowing me to lead him up the stairs and away from the bustling party.
i hate having to intervene when this happens, because i know iâm no better than he is. except iâm actually sleeping with someone else, heâs just trying to.
but our friends would be too suspicious if i didnât stop him.
âi wish we had just stayed best friends.â he grumbles, not for the first time since we started dating. âdating you is one of the biggest mistakes iâve made. we were so much better as friends.â
tears spring to my eyes, and unlike ten minutes ago, i let these ones fall.
heâs been doing the same thingâ and saying the same wordsâ since a mere month into our relationship, and i desperately wish i could disagree with him.
âtrust me, the sentiment is shared.â i whisper to myself as we reach his room.
i push his door open, ushering him inside and watching as he lays down in the bed and lets out a yawn. i follow in behind him, shutting the door before i help him out of his clothes and into pajamas.
laying in the bed, he curls up against me, his head on my stomach as my hand rakes through his hair; lulling him to sleep.
why do things have to be so complicated?
**
i donât see Luke again until wednesday. each time iâm at the house, heâs nowhere to be found. either in his room, or out with one of the guys.
in all honesty, i wasnât even sure if we were still on for our âstudy sessionâ today. but i showed up anyway, loaded down with my backpack and a ton of stress from my morning classes.
âhey, y/n.â Mackie opens the front door, letting me walk in past him. âLukeâs in his room.â
i nod, eyeing him as he walks over and drops down on the couch beside Ethan, resuming their video game.
âdonât you guys have class?â i question, inching my way towards the stairs.
Ethan shakes his head, his eyes never leaving the tv screen. âcanceled. professor is sick.â
i nod, bidding them a âsee you laterâ as i make my way up the stairs to Lukeâs room.
his door is shut, but i donât bother knocking, instead barging in as i have many times before. Luke is standing in front of his closet, a towel wrapped around his waist and his wet curls dripping water down his back. he spins around at the sound of his door opening and shutting, but relaxes once he realizes itâs just me.
i scan his body, my gaze lingering on his abs before i halt altogether at his exposed v-line from the low-hanging towel. my bottom lip catches between my teeth and it takes me a second to remember what oxygen is and why i need it.
snapping out of my sexually charged trance when i see his abs flex from his laughter, my eyes snap back up to his face, where a smirk rests.
âwould you like me to take the towel off or do you just wanna keep undressing me with your eyes?â he teases, ultimately choosing to forgo a shirt and just grab a pair of sweatpants from one of his drawers.
âwhy didnât you tell me Mackie and Ethan are staying home?â i hiss. âi wouldnâtâve come!â
i rid myself of my backpack, dropping it on his bed as he puts the sweatpants on, hanging up his towel on his closet doorknob.
âprecisely.â he winks. âyou wouldnât have come.â
retrieving my textbook and laptop from my bag, i roll my eyes at his double entendre and take a seat criss-cross on the floor at the foot of his bed. he follows suit with his own laptop.
âiâm serious, Luke. i wouldâve just went back to my dorm. i donât actually have any homework until next week and i didnât plan on doing any today.â i pout, glancing over at him as he takes his seat beside me, so close that my knee brushes against his thigh. ânow i have to.â
âi mean, you donât have to.â he shrugs, his arm snaking around my waist. he uses it to pull me towards him, maneuvering my body so iâm straddling him. âbeen thinking about you all week, baby.â
âyeah?â
my cheeks flush as he nods, his eyes dark with lust as he leans forward to kiss me. his lips are soft against mine, tasting of toothpaste, which blends perfectly with my peppermint chapstick.
he grabs a handful of my ass, taking advantage of my resulting gasp in order to slip his tongue past my lips.
his fingers play with the hem of my tank top, pulling away to pull the shirt over my head, leaving my chest bare. he slides me off of him, my legs now across his lap, my butt pressed against the side of his thigh.
he dips down to attach his lips to mine again and one of his hands grips my hip, pulling me closer so that my breasts press against his shirtless chest, his other hand sliding up to cup the back of my neck. while both of mine are tangled in his wet hair, slightly tugging at the curls at the nape of his neck.
his lips abandon mine in favor of leaving open mouthed kisses down my jawline, smirking against my skin at the sound of my quiet moans.
âLuke, you gotta stop.â i can barely get the words out, both from the pleasure that wracks my body as his tongue swirls my pulse point, and from the lack of desire to stop.
âhmm why?â he mumbles against my skin, not easing in his attack against my neck, but careful not to leave any marks.
âbecause the boys are right downstairs.â i remind him. âand no matter how much weâll want to, we canât go any further because your bed creaks and theyâll hear it.â
he pulls back to look me in the eyes, his hand sliding around so that it now provides a gentle stable grip on my throat. he uses that touch to slowly lower my body down, simultaneously removing his legs from beneath mine and hovering above me, holding himself up with the hand not currently wrapped around my throat.
âwe donât have to use the bed, baby.â his tone is low and dripping with sex, making me clench my thighs together at the sound.
i suck in a deep gasp as my bare skin touches the cold hardwood floor, my back arching and my chest pressing against his arm, which he uses to push my body down until i lay flat. i can feel my panties dampen at the lust that darkens his eyes when he feels me breathe in against his grip.
he lowers himself down above me, his body pressing grazing lightly between my now spread legs, as his lips attach to my breast, leaving wet kisses at the top of it. his hand slides down from my throat to let him thumb circle my other nipple, and i have to bite down on my lip in order to keep quiet.
âLuke.â i whisper out a moan, and he chuckles against my breast. his tongue kitten licks my nipple before his lips close around it, sucking gently and letting his teeth scrape incredibly lightly against it.
my hips buck up against him, finding friction against his abs, but he pulls away. he sits back on his knees, his fingers coming down to play with the waist band of my skirt, looking down at me in search of my approval. at my nod, his fingers sink into the fabric, pulling both the skirt and my underwear down my legs.
he flings the fabric to the side, neither of us paying attention to where they end up; too wrapped up in each other.
his gaze sinks downward to my glistening cunt, biting his lip as he drags his middle and ring fingers through the wetness. my body twitches as he brushes over my clit, already swollen with arousal. one side of his lips curls upwards into a smirk.
âlook at you. such a good girl for me.â i nod my head at his words, attempting to grind down harder onto his fingertips, that have halted on my clit, providing just enough pressure for me to feel it. âso wet already.â
i whimper quietly and Luke fakes a pout, mocking my sound.
âyou want me, darling?â he pushes down just a little harder on my clit and i sigh, my legs falling open a little more.
âyes.â i whisper. âyes, please, Luke, ple-.â
my words die off as he slips one finger inside of me, pumping it in and out slowly, and crooking it up to hit my g-spot.
my mouth forms an âoâ, my eyes rolling back before fluttering shut. his other hand snakes up to provide weight upon my throat, applying just enough pressure to make it a little harder for me to breathe, but not impossible.
i seal my lips, placing a hand over my mouth to keep myself from crying out as he adds a second finger. as he pumps his fingers, he presses the heel of his palm against my clit, and the dual stimulation in addition to the choking has my face going red; my head dizzying.
Lukeâs grip leaves my neck, allowing me to breathe a bit easier, and i open my eyes to see him hovering above me. his gaze flickers down to the hand that covers my mouth and i move it, his head dipping to press his lips against mine.
his hand thatâs between my legs never eases up, only speeding its pace as he adds a third finger, and i can feel my release edging closer and closer as i begin to grind myself down onto his fingers.
my cries are muffled by his lips, swallowed by him while his tongue pushes against mine. he pulls back, his eyes scanning my face.
âthatâs it, darling.â he coos, his nose nudging against mine, my hips still moving against his fingers. âride my fingers.â
the chuckle he lets out, as i continue to obey his words, is dark. he slides down my body, lowering himself fully now to be laying on his stomach on the floor; his face so close that i can feel his hot breath on my cunt.
his fingers persist in their mission to get me off as he begins flicking his tongue against my clit, and iâm barely able to cover my mouth before i let out a high pitched moan. his lips enclose around the bundle of nerves, sucking and flicking, but never ceasing the motions of his fingers inside of me.
my legs snap shut as my orgasm quickly approaches, but he just uses his free hand to pry them open; hooking his arm under my thigh and holding it open so he can continue his assault between my legs.
âopen up, darlinâ.â he mutters against me, and the vibrations send me.
my breath catches in my throat, my eyes rolling back, and my toes scrunching as i come around his fingers, my hand dropping down to tangle in his curls, holding him in place as i ride out my orgasm.
my back arches as he sticks his tongue out, letting me grind against it, while his fingers still pump in and out of me, crooking up in a âcome hereâ motion.
i stop moving as i come down from my high, my body falling limp as i pant to catch my breath. Luke sits up, looking into my eyes as he sucks his fingers clean of my cum, humming at the taste.
âyou taste so good.â he tells me. leaning over to kiss me, his tongue licks against mine, spreading the taste. âi donât wanna share you anymore, baby.â
my eyes fall closed at his confession, finding it unfair of him to say when iâm still reeling from my climax.
âLuke,â i sigh, but he kisses me again, cutting me off and refusing to let me deny him of his request.
âhe might kick my ass when he finds out, but iâll take that beating.â he mumbles against my lips. âjust let me take care of you. let me love you the way you deserve.â
his words are enticing, and in my fuzzy mind, unable to think clearly, they make sense.
âokay.â my response makes him smile and he eagerly presses a kiss against my lips.
âyeah?â he begins peppering kisses down my throat. âyou gonna breakup with him?â
another kiss.
âlet me take you out on a date?â
he sucks gently at a spot behind my ear.
âlet me love you outside of these four walls?â
i nod, my head tipping back to allow him better access.
âgood girl.â he whispers in my ear, his breath against it making me shiver.
his lips find mine again, his body hovering over mine, and i let my hands explore, dragging down over his abs until they reach his sweatpants. i rub his erection through the gray fabric, making him thrust into my hand.
âdonât start something youâre not ready to finish yet, darling.â he mutters, his voice strained from holding back.
âwho said iâm not ready?â i ask him, voice sultry as i peer up with innocent eyes. âiâve had a few minutes to recover.â
his head drops into my neck, groaning lowly as my hand strokes him through his sweatpants.
âyou want me to fuck you?â he asks, biting gently at my shoulder. âwant me to bury this cock so deep in your pussy?â
âyes.â i gasp, my heart racing and my core throbbing at the thought. âwant you to fuck me so good.â
âokay, darling.â he nods in permission and i pull his sweatpants down, letting his erection spring free. he moves away to take them off completely, and i clench around nothing at the sight of him.
he lowers himself between my thighs, gripping the base of his cock and rubbing it over my clit twice before h lines himself up with my entrance. my hips involuntarily jerk, resulting in his tip pushing in, and he takes that sign to finally bury himself inside of me.
he pushes in painfully slow, hissing at the feeling of my walls encompassing him.
âyouâre so tight.â he speaks through a clenched jaw, watching my face scrunch in pleasure as he pushes in, stretching me out inch by inch until his full length is inside of me. âyou feel like heaven.â
he doesnât move, letting me adjust to size, kissing me as he does so, but it doesnât take more than a moment before iâm speaking against his lips.
âplease, move.â
at my request, his hips pull back before snapping back in. my hands fly to his back, my nails digging in as he thrusts in and out of me. i cry out against his shoulder, his face dropped down in my neck, and i pray to whatever higher being, that the boys are still downstairs with their video game blasting; drowning out the noise of skin slapping and our sounds of pleasure.
âfaster, Luke.â i whine, pressing a kiss to his neck.
he speeds up his strokes, and i choke out a moan at the same time that he grunts, pulling out all the way and then snapping his hips to harshly thrust in.
my nails scratch down his back, surely leaving marks, and he moans quietly at the feeling, pulling his head out of the crook of my neck in order to look at my face. iâm certain that i look like a mess; my face red, my jaw dropped open, and my hair spread across the floor behind me, but i canât find it in myself to care.
âyouâre beautiful.â he mutters, dipping down to kiss me. i bite at his bottom lip, resulting in a loud groan entering my mouth from his.
Luke pulls away, sitting up and gripping my hips as he begins to pound into me. my hips chase his, and one of his hands leaves my body. grabbing a stray pillow from the end of his bed, he lifts my hips, settling the pillow underneath me before lowering me back down on top of it.
the new angle has my eyes squeezing shut, my hands rising to clutch at my breasts in attempt to ground myself from the immense pleasure. i can feel his tip hitting against my g-spot, making me legs begin to shake.
my walls clench around him and i can feel his hips stutter, his thrusts getting sloppier as he chases his high, and in attempt to help me reach my second orgasm, his hand comes down to gently push against my lower stomach.
tears build in my eyes and i stare up at him, finding satisfaction in watching him concentrate. his abs flex as he slightly hovers back over me, just enough so that he can reach my neck, and his hand wraps around it. my heart leaps in my chest in response to the pressure that he applies, cutting off my airflow for a moment before easing up just enough that i can breathe if i really need to.
i can myself getting lightheaded, a result of the stimulation and the lack of oxygen, and his grip slackens, allowing me to gasp in a breath or two before he repeats the process.
my legs shake, my back arching and my pussy clenching around him as i finally reach my peak, coming on his cock. it only takes a few more sloppy thrusts before Luke is freezing, hips stuttering.
âfuck, iâm gonna come.â he moans quietly, and i buck my hips up to fuck onto him, silently letting him know its okay while iâm still catching my breath.
the movement of my hips spurs on his orgasm, his head dropping back as he comes inside of me.
he falls forward, his body collapsing on top of mine. we stay like that for a few moments, catching our breath, before he slips out of me, causing a whine to escape my lips as he rolls onto the floor next to me.
my head lolls to the side, staring at him as he sucks in deep breaths, and in the post-sex haze, i canât help but grin at the thought of he and i on a real date. my mind wanders, fantasizing about him picking me up from my dorm, flowers in hand, and taking me out to dinner or a movie.
but it all comes crashing down when i register the severity of what weâve just done.
we had sex, with other people here. people who know my boyfriend. people who granted, may not be the most observant, but iâm sure would still recognize the sound of sex if they heard it.
âshit!â i curse, sitting up and scanning the room for my clothes.
âhey, whatâ what are you doing?â Luke asks from his spot on the floor, leaning back on his hands, watching as i pull my clothes back on.
âwell, first i have to pee.â i start, glancing over at him. âand then, i need to peek downstairs and make sure dumb and dumber didnât hear anything.â
he opens his mouth to speak but i cut him off. âgod, that was so stupid. we couldâve gotten caught.â
his face deflates, his lips downturning in a frown as he nods.
âright.â he grits out, and i stop in my movements, tank top and underwear on, but skirt still in my grasp.
âhey.â i coo, walking over and dropping down his lap, setting my skirt beside us in favor of cupping his face. âit was just risky of us to do, is all. i donât regret it, and i donât regret you.â
he peers at me from behind his lashes, his eyes fluttering closed as i press sweet kisses to his cheeks before locking my lips with his.
âokay.â he nods in understanding.
âyouâre the best thing to ever happen to me, Lukey. i donât want you to think that i regret anything.â i give him another peck. âi justâ i donât want this getting back to Mark.â
another nod, but then the corners of his lips curl up in a small smile.
âat least not until you break up with him.â
shit. i did say i would do that, didnât i?
âLukeâŚâ i trail off and his smile drops.
âyouâre not gonna do it, are you?â he asks sadly. âit was just an empty, heat of the moment promise.â
âno.â i shake my head, my hands running through the back of his curls. âiâm gonna do it.â
iâm firm in my answer, having had enough of not having him in my arms, publicly.
âi just donât know how.â i confess. âiâve never broken up with someone, iâve always been the one being broken up with. and i have to figure out how to do it without him getting pissed at me, so we can stay friends and hopefully we can break the news to our parents together.â
âyou can do it.â Luke encourages, straining his neck to kiss my forehead. âyou and your big, smart brain will figure out a way.â
a giggle escapes past my parted lips, and i rise from his lap, finally stepping into my skirt.
âiâll be right back.â i whisper and he sends me a thumbs up as he pulls his sweatpants back on.
slipping out of the bedroom, i go straight across the hall to the bathroom, doing my business and making sure i donât look like i just got railed, before i finally tiptoe halfway down the stairs. i peer over the banister, finding Mackie and Ethan still wrapped up in their video game, seemingly oblivious to the actions that happened right above their heads.
thank god.
**
itâs not until sunday that iâm able to get Mark alone at the diner, having needed thursday to think of how to break the news, and friday and saturday being game days, in which Mark is incredibly meticulous about his schedule.
iâm sat in a booth, nursing an orange juice as i wait for my boyfriend to arrive, my head perking up every time the entrance bell rings.
finally, in he walks, a beanie on his head and his university of michigan letterman jacket resting upon his shoulders, slipping his phone in his pocket. he smiles when he sees me, stalking over and dropping into the seat across from me.
âhey, mini.â he grins, leaning over the table to press a kiss to my cheek.
âhi, Marky.â my voice is weak, but i do my best to mask it with a smile.
âwhatâs wrong?â my brows furrow at his words.
âwhat? what do you mean?â i question, and his eyes flicker down to my cup.
âyouâre drinking orange juice,â he laughs, taking the cup from my grasp to take a sip. âyou only drink orange juice when youâre sad.â
he knows me too well.
âMark-â before i can get into my speech of how this relationship isnât working for either of us and that we should go back to being just friends, my phone buzzes with a reminder notification and i sigh. âsorry, one sec.â
digging through my tote bag, i pull out my birth control, popping a pill out of the sleeve and swallowing it, washing it down with my juice.
âwhy do you even take that anyway?â Mark scrunches his nose, and iâm sure i look like a deer in headlights when his eyes meet mine. âwe barely even hook up, and i wear protection when we do.â
âbirth control has more uses than just⌠controlling birth.â i remind him. âit helps regulate my periods and ease my cramps and-â
âmakes sure Luke doesnât get you pregnant?â his words are like a slap to the face, shocking me, regardless of the soft tone that he says them in.
âwhat?â i gape, my eyes wide and my lips parted âi-â
iâm rendered speechless. unsure of what to say. i refuse to deny the claim, because itâs true, and iâm sick of lying. but also not wanting to confirm, in fear of upsetting him.
âitâs alright, mini.â he shrugs. âi found out last month. came home to grab a textbook for my next class and heard you guys going at it.
âi was a bit shocked, but i understood.â
i open my mouth, ready to speak, but he cuts me off.
âheâs good for you. i can see that you guys really like each other, and i canât blame you. i was a pretty shitty boyfriend, wasnât i? but, i was an even shittier best friend. iâm the one who convinced you to give us a try. and then, only a month later, when i realized how much better we were before dating, instead of just breaking up with you and facing the consequences, i dragged it out for over a year.
âi kept you in a loveless relationship, just because i was scared of what our parents would say.â he scoffs, shaking his head.
my hand slides over on the table to grasp his. âMark.â
âbut, if you wanna be with Luke, iâm okay with that. i shouldâve just ended this when i knew that we werenât right for each other like that.â
my gentle touch turns sour as i smack his hand lightly, finally getting him to shut up.
âMark, would you stop?â i sigh. âgod, you have me feeling guiltier than i already felt. which is valid, i was a shitty girlfriend too.
âi couldâve broken up with you too. i guess we were both too afraid to hear the âyou fucked upâ speech from our parents. but instead of just taking the loss, i cheated. and nothing can excuse that. no matter how much you and i knew that we werenât right for each other, i still slept with Luke while we were together, and iâm so sorry for that, Mark. and i would understand if you were pissed at me and you never wanted to see me again. but i really hope that maybe you can forgive me, and we can just go back to being friends, because iâve really missed my best friend.â
salty tears coat my cheeks as i sniffle, looking into Markâs red rimmed and slightly puffy eyes from his own tears.
âiâd really like that.â he nods, giving me a soft smile. âand we can tell our parents together. maybe if we tell them that the break up wasnât messy and weâre still best friends, it wonât be as bad.â
âoh thank god! i really hope so, because i donât want us to be on the receiving end of our parents wrath forever.â i respond, making him chuckle. âso⌠is this like a mutual break up orâŚ?â
âoh no- i dumped you. i definitely dumped you.â he jokes and i abrupt with laughter, a snort leaving my lips which causes him to laugh as well.
*
Mark and i walk back to sophomore house together, his arm draped over my shoulder and tears in our eyes from laughing at our own jokes. and for the first time in a year, i feel immense happiness in his presence.
Mark opens the door when we arrive, allowing me to step through and shed my jacket as he follows behind me, doing the same before his arm wraps back over my shoulder. we turn to find at least half the hockey team piled around the living room, a hockey game playing on the tv and snacks scattered all over the coffee table.
most of them only glance up at our arrival, waving or muttering a âheyâ, before their sights set back on the screen, but Lukeâs gaze settles on us, his eyes unmoving. i can see his face drop at the sight of Markâs touch on me, and i glance up at Mark to see him already looking down at me with a smile. he nods, giving me his approval, and thatâs all it takes.
i shed his arm off of me, stalking over to Luke and standing in front of his spot on the couch. he watches me with wary eyes, his expression stony, until i crawl onto him, my legs on either side of his lap. my hands cup the back of his neck, using my grip to pull his face up to mine.
âwhat the fuck are you doing?â he whispers, but i ignore him, lowering my lips to his.
his hands squeeze at my hips, his lips moving against mine, and i can hear the other boys in the room whispering a chorus of âwhat the fuckâs and âoh my godâs and even Rutgers âyo, what the hell did i missâ, but i tune them out.
pulling back, a smile paints across Lukeâs lips, his gaze flickering to Mark, who i turn back and see grinning at us.
âi take it it went well?â Luke asks me, his nose nudging against mine as i turn back to face him.
âit went great.â i tell him. âhe wasnât mad. in fact, we facetimed our parents and told them together. they were pretty mad, but generally understanding when we told them that weâre still best friends.â
Lukeâs arms wrap around my waist, pulling me closer to him in excitement.
âhey.â Mark calls out, gaining Luke and iâs attention once more. âtreat her good.â
i roll my eyes at his warning, but Luke just grins.
âiâll give her the world.â
You slept like a lovesick log after your long drive back to the hotel from the cemetery. Exhausted from throwing up in the shrubs, you curled up in bed and watched the video you took for your son or daughter. You had recorded yourself reading both headstones and having a little conversation with your in-laws about the baby. It was just meant to be something you and Bradley could watch one day with the nugget, but it brought a smile to your face.Â
You were decidedly no longer smiling when you woke up on Wednesday and had to race to the toilet. "Why is this happening again?" you asked the bath mat as you curled up in a ball. You had another, longer presentation to give. You had admirals to chat with. You had a whole lot to get done today. You didn't have time for this right now.
Even brushing your teeth was a chore. Changing into your uniform was an issue. At least your pants felt a little looser today. You honestly could not keep up with the way your body was bloated half the time and normal the rest of the time.Â
You realized your makeup was pretty much the only thing holding your life together at the moment as you swiped on some mascara. Then there was a knock at your door, and it felt like you were doing the same thing all over again today, because essentially you were. You and Cat had to struggle with the bin of equipment. You had to fight to stay awake in the rental car. The nausea was turning your life into a game of sheer determination to keep the bagel that you ate from coming back up.Â
"Are you okay?" Cat asked you a few minutes before the presentation was about to start.Â
"Of course," you told her in what you hoped was a reassuring tone. "Why wouldn't I be?" You shrugged and smiled serenely at her.Â
"Because you're sweating bullets. And you've been pacing around the hallway."
You cleared your throat and insisted, "It's just really hot in here."
"It's not," she replied. "Please. I'm begging you. Just keep it together for another ninety minutes, okay? After that, you can do anything you want. Hell, I'll do anything you want me to do. But we need to get through this presentation."Â
Her voice sounded panicked, and now you were looking around the hallway for a garbage can. But it was too late. The two of you were being called into the presentation room. Commander Patterson and Admiral Klein were sitting in the front row smiling at you. Shit, more admirals were here today. Oh fuck, all of these people wanted to hear your extended presentaion. A bead of sweat rolled down the back of your neck, past your shoulder blades and along your spine. You wanted Bradley. You wanted Bradley to hold you and let you throw up everywhere and tell you that you were still pretty and that he loved you even if you cried on the toilet and ate crackers while you lay on the floor.Â
Tears burned your eyes, and Cat looked like she was going to scream. Pull it together. Ignore the sensation. Clip the microphone onto your shirt. Start talking.Â
"Good afternoon. Lieutenant Coleman and I are back to expound upon our research presentation from Monday which covered communications engineering at Top Gun. You can find a copy of our slides in the information packet in front of you. Please hold your questions until we pause for a break. Let's get started."
--------------------------
Bradley really wasn't doing well without you at home. He was barely eating anything besides cereal and sandwiches, and he was going to bed hungry at night. The only fun he'd been having was slowly filling up that pink and blue notebook with his musings for the little nugget.
He was having a hard time sleeping, and he didn't like how quiet the house was. Even Tramp kept looking for you, occasionally running to the front door and whimpering. "We'll see her on Friday," he told the dog as he had potato chips and coffee for breakfast on Wednesday morning. "Two more days of this bullshit."Â
When he got home from work on Tuesday, he broke down in tears as he looked at the photos you sent him from the cemetery. You even took a video where you were talking to him and the nugget and his parents. He still couldn't believe you took the time to drive there and make it so special for him. After he finished crying, he made his way back up to the attic where he took the half wall down to the studs. Then he realized that he really needed to call some contractors before you came home and saw the mess he made.Â
While he drove to work in the red Bronco, he left messages, hoping to get some estimates in the next week or so. One thing that he'd been slowly coming to terms with was the fact that you didn't need him to take care of you by paying for everything. Both of your incomes were going toward the mortgage payments and all the necessities. You'd both been saving money for the future, and he figured the future had arrived since there was a baby on the way.Â
When he parked in the garage on base, he noticed he had some new texts from you.
Baby Girl Bradshaw: I miss you. I'm struggling today. I think the nugget hates me. I'll call you later after my presentation and all of this other shit is over.Â
He wanted to text you back, but he didn't want to be a distraction, so he tucked his phone into his pocket and ran his fingers through his hair. He had been reading every pregnancy article online that he could find, but none of the tricks he saw were helping you with the nausea. You were probably just going to have to wait it out. He would be ready to rub your shoulders and put a cool washcloth on the back of your neck when you got home.
Bradley walked the long way around to the classrooms since he was early and didn't need to stop in the locker room to change. When he passed the stairwell that would have taken him up to your office and the engineering labs, he swore he heard Bob's voice. He paused, and he definitely heard Bob's laugh. When the door to the stairs opened, he heard Bob say, "We can always find out later tonight if you want to invite me to your room again." And then there was a very familiar, feminine laugh before Bob appeared ten feet ahead of him.
He stared at Bob, and Bob stared back as the door closed, leaving the two of them alone. Bradley thought back to the way Bob and Maria were looking a little cozy at brunch last Sunday. This was interesting.
"Hey, Bob," Bradley said with a grin. "How are you enjoying your new apartment with Maria?"
His cheeks immediately flushed pink, and Bradley bit his lip to keep quiet as Bob started stuttering. Frankly, he was proud of his friend for sounding so much more self assured a few seconds ago when he was tucked inside the stairwell with Maria. "I-I d-don't know... are y-you... I d-din't think that..."
Bradley let him flounder through a few more partial sentences before he said, "If you're hooking up with Maria Wilson, then good for you, man. Well done."
Bob cleared his throat, adjusted his glasses and ran his hand along the back of his neck. "Thanks," he muttered as he stared at the floor.Â
"You want me to keep this information to myself?"
Bob's blue eyes went wide as they met Bradley's. "Please." He swallowed hard. "I don't think she wants anyone else to know." His voice was just a whisper as he said, "I'm sure she'd be embarrassed if people found out."
Then he turned and left Bradley standing there alone. He'd been in that position before with you. Before you made things official. And he had been miserable. "Poor Bob," he muttered as he followed him at a distance. The best case scenario would be if Maria confided in you when you got back from Annapolis. Bradley would have to be cool about you going to brunch on Sunday even though he already wanted you and the baby all to himself again all weekend.
-----------------------
You made it. Somehow you got through the full hour and a half. You nailed your parts, and so did Cat. You and she answered questions for at least an additional thirty minutes, and now she was packing up the equipment while you sent a quick text to Bickel.Â
"Your research is very compelling, Lieutenant Commander."
You looked up into the eyes of Commander Patterson, and he smiled warmly at you. Unfortunately, the only thing you could really think about was the way you'd been picturing Bradley's cock the last time you talked to him. At the moment, you were so fucking horny, you felt like rubbing yourself against the wall and crying until you got some relief.
"Thank you, sir," you managed to say while you tried to focus on his face and his words. "It has really become a passion project, trying to keep actual aviators in the air versus the drone agenda. Real people making real decisions based on their surroundings and the immediate threats they are facing will always win out against a laboratory manufactured software protocol."
"I couldn't agree more." He took a step closer and said, "And the way you presented your findings made it so clear that you're eager for others to understand how important that is as well."
"Absolutely," you told him with a smile of your own. "And the funding for communications research is so important."Â
You were probably going to have to go to the cocktail hour tonight just to get your face out there since you skipped the previous one to drive to Virginia. But you were almost instantly saved from having to do that as Commander Patterson said, "I'm planning on having dinner this evening with a few of the admirals if you'd like to join us. Cocktail attire. Overpriced steaks. You know, the usual."Â
His slight eye roll had you laughing and agreeing immediately. That sounded a lot better than trying to ditch champagne flutes all night. You'd still be able to chat with some superiors, and right now, you were actually hungry. "That sounds great. I'll see if Lieutenant Coleman can join as well."
With that, his smile wavered a bit, but he told you the name of the restaurant, and you promised to be there at seven o'clock. Cat had all the equipment packed up, and she was ready for you to help her carry the bin. "Hey, you want to come eat an overpriced steak later? With Commander Patterson and some others?" you asked as you tried your best to lift with your legs.
"Why didn't you tell me before? I already agreed to some stupid happy hour with a handful of admirals, but I love overpriced food when you don't have to pay for it."
You laughed and said, "That's probably better. We can divide and conquer this way. Bickel will like that."
As the two of you hoisted the bin into the rental car, Cat smiled and said, "You know what else he'll like? The fact that we nailed the presentation again today. I'm sorry I doubted you."
"Don't do it again," you told her with a smirk. Of course then you promptly started falling asleep while she drove back to the hotel, and when you got to your room, you passed out in bed until it was time to get ready for dinner.Â
It was only three o'clock for Bradley, and even though you wanted to call him, you decided to wait a little longer. You inhaled a pack of peanut butter crackers while your stomach growled loudly. "What is with you today?" you asked the baby. "You're finally hungry? Or are you going to make me barf again?" You got a loud rumble in response. "I know you like Daddy better, and we'll be home in two days. Relax."
As you redid your makeup, you started thinking about Bradley. And then you thought about how delicious he smelled right after he finished a workout. And then you thought about how nice and big his cock is. And then you thought about all the sounds he makes and the way me moans your name when his cock is inside you.
"Oh hell," you whined, pressing your thighs together. You needed to get some relief with your toys until you could get back home, but you didn't have time for that right now. The combination of being so hungry and so horny was almost too much to handle, and you ended up calling Bradley on the short drive to the restaurant. It was barely four there, so you were surprised when he answered.Â
"Hey, Sweetheart."
Two words. He said two fucking words, and you were moaning and having a hard time focusing to drive. "Roo. Oh my god."
"What's wrong?" he snapped immediately. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," you gasped, parking the car and squeezing the steering wheel. "I'm just so horny. And Commander Patterson asked me out to dinner, and I seriously need to get fucked, Bradley. Like you have no idea how bad it is right now."
You could hear him mutter something, and then you thought you heard Jake's voice before Bradley quietly said, "Baby Girl, I'll fuck the absolute shit out of you all weekend. In fact, I can't wait to do that. I'll take care of everything you need."
"Daddy," you moaned, realizing you should have masturbated instead of taking that nap.
"But please tell me who the fuck Commander Patterson is. All I know is that you said he's that guy who asked if Top Gun aviation is the right fit for you?" Another moan escaped your lips as you thought about being a tight fit for your husband. "Yeah, you sound wrecked, Sweetheart," he crooned in that raspy voice. "I don't think you should go to dinner with some guy I don't know. I don't care what his rank is.
You sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "It's not just with him. Some admirals are coming too. I need to meet the admirals, Bradley. And I'm already at the restaurant." When you looked further up the block, you saw Patterson heading inside.
Bradley made a frustrated sound. "Text me when you can? And call me when you're leaving later?"
"I will," you promised as your stomach growled. You were so excited that the nugget seemed to want to eat this steak, you almost hung up before you said, "I love you."
You straightened out your black cocktail dress as you practically ran down the sidewalk in your high heels which you rarely ever wore except in your bedroom with your husband. The delicious smells from the restaurant were wafting out onto the sidewalk, and you were going to cry if there wasn't some bread or something already waiting on the table.Â
"There you are, Lieutenant Commander."Â
Patterson was waiting inside the entryway where at least the sound of the air conditioner blasting and the conversation around you was blocking out your growling stomach. He was smiling as his hand found the small of your back. "Our table is ready. We can go right there."Â
When he applied some pressure with his hand, you lurched forward. Perhaps he was just trying to help you navigate through the crowd, but he could keep his hands to himself. He must have known you were married. You decided to make a show of pointing out some hideous artwork with your left hand, practically shoving your rings in his face. "That's a lovely painting, Commander," you told him, but he just smiled and nodded at you before pulling out a chair at a table set for four.
"Please, call me Derek," he told you as he sank down into the seat across from you, and then he started using your first name without permission. The one blessing was the fact that there was an enormous basket of bread sitting right in the middle of the table along with a variety of spreads and dips.Â
You moaned softly and had to bite your lip as you reached for a soft looking roll and the chive butter. Derek was staring at you with parted lips and wide pupils. Had he never seen a woman eat before? Had you ever been this hungry before? You licked your lips as you spread some of the butter onto the roll, and then you took a bite and moaned again.Â
Holy. Fucking. Shit.Â
After weeks of feeling miserable, you finally knew you could stomach this meal right now. You were still so turned on, and yet your exhaustion was bone deep at this point, but the bread was like a lifeline to normalcy, and you were grabbing onto it.Â
Derek cleared his throat as he watched you take those first few sumptuous bites. "I've got to know," he said smoothly, "exactly what would lure you back to Annapolis for good?"
You popped the rest of the roll between your lips and chewed it up before you said, "Nothing."
"There would have to be something. Better research facilities? Your own lab? Both of your degrees and your work are so impressive, you must know there would be endless possibilities for you here."
You were shocked. Running your own lab was your dream. The idea of being in charge of a research team made your skin prickle with desire. You hoped that could be a possibility someday, but you weren't even thirty-five yet. You figured maybe ten years from now when Bickel was getting ready to retire, you'd be able to take his place.Â
"My own lab?"
Derek smiled, all white teeth and handsome expression, and then the waitress arrived. You wanted to jump out of your seat and hug her when she asked if you'd like to order any appetizers.
"Do you know when the others will be here?" you asked Derek. "Should we wait to order?"
He shook his head vaguely. "They'll be late. We can order. Get whatever you want."
You almost laughed giddily as you ordered three appetizers and then a steak dinner complete with garlic mashed potatoes and two vegetables. "We can share the appetizers," you said when he looked at you in surprise, even though you didn't want to. You placed your hand on your belly, trying to subtly thank the baby for cooperating right now.Â
When the waitress finished taking his order and then departed, you asked, "Which admirals are joining us?"
"Hmm? Oh... uh, Rivera and Silverman."
You were not familiar with either of them which made you panic slightly. You should have done more research on who was attending each of the lectures. Why hadn't you done that? Oh, right... because you were too busy throwing up. The bread basket called to you, and before you knew it, you'd eaten more than half while Derek droned on about how amazing you'd be running your own lab. He didn't even know you, which made this more annoying than anything else, but your stomach was holding up spectacularly, so you could overlook it. You could have kissed the waitress when she came back with the appetizers.
"So, do you live alone?" he asked as you dipped two mozzarella sticks into some marinara sauce. You paused before shoving them into your mouth so you could chuckle.Â
"No. I live with my husband and our dog." Then the fried cheese hit your tongue, and it was like you were living in a world of color after weeks in black and white. Your stomach gurgled pleasantly, finally accepting food once again. Tears of joy stung at your eyes as you took a forkful of crispy brussels sprouts and a potato skin.
Derek laughed and asked how old you were, but your mouth was full, so he said, "Let's just say, my career in Annapolis outlived my bad marriage. And that's been the case for many, many officers."
You swallowed the potato like it was a lead weight. That had definitely been the case for Cat, unfortunately. And you'd heard a lot of stories, sure, especially when you were at the Naval Academy. And perhaps that was part of the reason you fought against the mere idea of being with Bradley at first. One officer in a relationship with a civilian was bad enough, but two officers trying to make it happen together usually spelled disaster.
But you felt stronger with Bradley. The two of you worked hard to get through your struggles and end up in a better place. You and he were going to be parents, for fuck's sake.Â
"Just sharing my two cents with you," Derek added, still smiling. "You're young, and you haven't lived it yet, but I can tell you that you'll go farther here than in San Diego. Especially if you're already open to the idea of having more."
You wanted to check the time on your phone; you must have been sitting here for over half an hour by now. The other two chairs were still empty. Derek was starting to get under your skin.Â
"I'm open to the idea of pursuing my career at Top Gun along with my husband."
"He's an officer as well?" Derek asked with a laugh. "I'm sure he's having a great week back in San Diego without you."
You felt heat flame up your neck and into your cheeks as your steak dinners arrived. "Yes, he's an officer. He's a Top Gun aviator."
"He deploys?" Derek asked in disbelief before laughing harder. "You should make the move back to the east coast now, before he ruins your life. If he hasn't already."
He had gone from complimenting you to trying to humiliate you in a matter of minutes. You'd been blinded by the glorious meal, but the truth hit you square in the chest. As he picked up his fork and steak knife, you asked, "Why did you lie to me about two admirals coming? Do Rivera and Silverman even exist?"
Somehow his smile was still persistent as he said, "Sure, they exist. They went to the cocktail reception on base." You watched the knife sink into his steak as he added, "You're gorgeous. I wanted to get you alone. Let you know how much better things could be. Offer to set you up for a one-on-one meeting with Admiral Jennings tomorrow if you come home with me tonight. It's on the table if you want it."
In one quick movement, you snatched his plate away from him with the fork still stuck in the steak. "Okay, well fuck you, Derek," you snarled, standing up and waving for the waitress. "You're disgusting and delusional if you thought I would even consider going home with you."
"Can I get you anything?" the waitress asked cautiously, and you realized you were causing a bit of a scene now in the crowded restaurant.Â
"Yes. I need boxes. Like a whole bunch of takeout boxes," you told her. "I'm taking all of this food with me."
"Right," the waitress replied, her gaze drifting to Derek who looked very unamused.Â
"I'm taking his meal, too," you snapped. "Hurry up with the boxes."
She scurried away as you piled all of the food onto one plate and said, "You're so fucking stupid, Derek. I already have Admiral Jennings' phone number. I met her last year. I told her to her face that I'm staying in San Diego."
"Well then you're making a bad choice," he told you.
Then the waitress set down some takeout containers while you practically tossed the empty plate back at Derek. You scraped as much of the food into the first box as would fit before moving to the second one. "He's paying for dinner," you told the waitress. "And I'm taking one fork and one steak knife with me. He'll pay for those as well." You shoved the rest of the bread into the last box and then stacked them all up before meeting Derek's eyes. "You just ruined the first meal I've been able to stomach in weeks, asshole. And my husband is a nice man. Very sweet. Treats people with respect. But if he were here right now, you'd have a bloody face and some broken ribs."Â
You picked up the boxes, grabbed the utensils, and made your way toward the exit. You went straight for your rental car and climbed inside before cranking the engine. Then you took a massive bite of garlic mashed potatoes before cutting off a piece of Derek's steak while you called your husband.Â
-------------------------
Bradley was working out in the garage when your ringtone cut across the playlist you made for him. He practically dropped his barbell to the cement floor to get his phone from where it was sitting on the tool chest. "Sweetheart. I wasn't expecting to hear from you quite yet. Didn't we just get off the phone?" he asked with a smile as he ran his forearm along his sweaty face. "Not that I mind one bit." He was about to ask if you were done with dinner, but then he realized that you were crying. The sweat on his skin turned ice cold as he quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
"Roo," you wailed, and he started looking around the garage as if there was something out here that would help both of you calm down. "He ruined my fucking dinner!" you sobbed.
"What are you talking about?" he asked as he paced the length of the garage, running his fingers through his damp hair. "Who ruined it?"
"Commander Patterson."
Bradley honestly could not fathom how that guy had ruined your dinner. All he knew was that you told him you were horny as hell when you got to the restaurant, and that he didn't trust guys he didn't know around you. Most men were disgusting, and you were lovely and also pregnant with his child.
"Can you explain what happened so I can understand?" he asked as calmly as he could.
"Yeah," you sniffed, and he heard a car engine start up in the background. "The nugget and I were both really enjoying the food. Like really enjoying it, Bradley. You know how I've been, and this was delectable and exactly what we both wanted. Like it was so good, if you'd been there with me looking super sexy, I would have probably had an orgasm in the middle of the damn restaurant."
Bradley swallowed hard as he stood in the garage, wondering where the hell this was going. "I understand. You haven't been able to eat much, so that must have felt amazing. Now can you tell me what's wrong?"
"He ruined it!" you replied loudly. "He lied to me! There were no admirals planning on joining us. He tricked me into meeting him there, and then he gave me fake compliments and accolades about my work. He told me that I could get ahead with a career in Annapolis if I slept with him, all because he wanted to fuck me!"
Bradley almost dropped his phone. "Did he touch you?" he growled, switching to speaker phone as he rushed through the backyard toward the house and looked for flights to Maryland at the same time. "Did he fucking touch you?!"
"No!" you practically shrieked. "No, he didn't touch me! You think I'd let him get anywhere near me after he ruined my dinner?"
"Where are you now?" he demanded. "And what's this Commander fucking Patterson's first name?"Â
Bradley was seeing red as he walked inside and slammed the sliding glass door behind him, and Tramp ran whimpering into the spare room. The earliest he could get out of San Diego on an eastbound flight was a red eye that left at 9:30, and that was nearly four hours from now.
"I'm not telling you his name," you said softly with a little sniff at the end. "I'm afraid you'll strangle him."
Frankly, if Bradley got his hands on the asshole, he'd probably wish all he got was strangled to death. "Where are you now?" he asked again, trying to keep his voice calmer.
"In my rental car."
"Alone?
"Yes!"
"Good," he replied as he clenched and unclenched his fist and headed for the shower. "Go back to your hotel room, and text me the address. I'll stay on the phone with you until you get there, and then I'll be out on a red eye that lands in Annapolis at 5:55 tomorrow morning local time. And then you'll tell me his first name, and I'll beat the shit out of him for ruining your dinner and acting like my wife is his for the taking."
"Bradley," you said firmly. "I do not need you to come out here. I already feel better now that I told you about it."
"Well, I sure as fucking hell don't," he grunted, peeling off his sweaty clothes in the bathroom. "Does he know which hotel you're staying at? And where the hell is Cat?"
You groaned and said, "No, he doesn't know. And Cat went to the actual cocktail reception with the actual admirals. I seriously hate Commander Patterson. But I did steal his dinner, so that's making me feel a little bit better."
His thumb was hovering over his phone screen, ready to purchase a seat on this flight. "Wait, you stole his dinner?"
"Yes. I took it. When I tell you the food was that good, Bradley, I am not joking. I housed most of the appetizers and the bread basket, and then I took his plate before he even got a bite of his porterhouse. I dumped all of the food into takeout boxes, took some silverware, told the waitress he'd pay for everything, and then I left."
Bradley burst into laughter in spite of himself. He could actually picture it so clearly. The haughty expression on your face. Your biting wit once you figured out what was going on. The way you must have looked dumping the steaks into the containers. "You're a damn force to be reckoned with, Baby Girl. Are you driving back to the hotel with all the food?"
"Yeah. I mean I did eat a few bites when I first got back in the car, because the baby was demanding it, but I'm absolutely going to eat the rest in my room. Fuck that guy. He doesn't even deserve his overpriced steak. It's mine now."
Bradley cradled his forehead in his hand and laughed. "Do you really not need me to come out there?"
He heard you take a deep breath before you said, "I miss you a lot, but I really do not need you to come out, okay? The nugget and I are fine now, ruined dinner aside."
"Alright," he murmured. "If you change your mind, you have two hours to let me know, and I'll be knocking on your door by 7 in the morning."
You moaned and whispered, "God, that does sound good. I'm back at the hotel. Heading up to my room now. Any chance you feel like having phone sex before I eat my two steaks and roughly four pounds of potatoes?"
"Fuck," he grunted, his cock already getting hard as he looked down at himself. "Yeah. A hundred percent. Let me just get in the shower here."
"Okay, Daddy," you muttered, and Bradley was practically tripping over himself as he started up the spray of water. Once you were safely inside your room, you told him, "I'm ready when you are."
-------------------------
You got off twice to your vibrator and your husband's sexy voice. It was so easy to imagine him in the shower with the sound of the water in the background. You could picture the steam snaking around his body while he held his thick cock in his hand. You could practically taste his skin and smell the body wash he was definitely using as lube.Â
"That's my sweet girl," he crooned as you started to peak for the second time. "When I get you home on Friday, my mouth is going to be all over that pussy. I miss you so much. I want my wife and my baby with me."
"Bradley," you whined, legs bent and shaking as you got closer. "I need you to fuck me. I'm so goddamn horny for you!"
He grunted right into the phone and said, "Keep it up, and I'll break your new car at the airport, too."
And then you came. Hard. Your chest was sweaty. Your back was arching off the bed. The vibrator rolled out of your grasp, and you stroked yourself with your fingers and whispered his name over and over.Â
"I'm about to come," Bradley moaned. And you could hear the exact second he was probably making a white mess all over the tile wall. You imagined it on your belly instead.Â
You just wanted to go home, and when your back finally settled against the bedding you said, "I need you to promise to fuck me at least twenty times between Friday night and Monday morning."
"Make it thirty, Sweetheart," he crooned as he panted. "At least. I fucking need it, too."
You turned your head to the side where a photo of him was still pulled up on your phone. "Sounds perfect. Don't forget, I'm having dinner with my mom and dad tomorrow, so please FaceTime when you're walking out of work if you can."
"For the love of all things holy, please don't talk about your parents when I'm still holding my cock."
You giggled, and then he laughed. "I won't do it again," you promised as you sat up in bed, eyeing the takeout containers on the desk. "I love you, Roo. I'm going to eat Derek Patteron's steak, take a shower, and then pass out."
"I love you too, Baby Girl. Can you put your phone down by your belly?"
"Mmhmm," you hummed, pressing your lips together to keep from squealing at how sweet this man was.
"And I love you, too, my little nugget. Be nice to Mommy."
---------------------------
BG is all over the place... Roo probably has whiplash. Derek should be punished for ruining that meal for her and the baby. Just a few chapters left, and we'll have another series for them in the books! Thanks for reading! Thanks @mak-32 and @beyondthesefourwalls
Why Chloe Deserved A Miraculous
Its a thought that's been stewing in my head and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was true. Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
From a Doylist Perspective.
When there is conversations of if Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous is always presented from a Watsonian perspective. For those who don't know, Watsonian means the perspective of someone inside the story. A character. Doylist is the perspective of those in the real world. The author and audience.
The problem I see from fandom discourse is how often people don't actually consider the tools in a story. Often they take a Watsonian perspective, talk about what is right and sensible and should be how things work if this was a real situation. But the thing about stories is they have messages. They have tools and metaphors and themes to help display these messages. Sure, shows are about entertainment, but a story always has some kind of point. It may not be a moral lesson, it may not be some grand philosophy, but any story worth telling says SOMETHING. It takes a stance. The Fast and the Furious is all about doing cool stunts with cars, but it also has a message of doing things for family because if you just want to see cool car stunts, just go watch cool car stunts, but no, people want at least a little humanity in the car stunts, so there is a message of family. Sharing is caring, do your best, the heat death of the universe comes for us all, the messages can be vast, but there's some point of emotional reality to invest us in this specific media.
If we talk about Chloe and the Miraculous from a Watsonian perspective, no, she is not entitled to a Miraculous. No one is entitled to an object of power. Not even Marinette nor Adrien are entitled to their Miraculous.
But superpowers aren't real. Superpowers have always been a tool to emphasize a point. The stories of superman only focused on his powers are boring, but when you tell stories of how he tries to fit into a world that is not made for him, stories of how much he loves this world despite how easy it could be to be cruel, it gets interesting. The reason superhero comics started is there was a want to show that there can be incredibly powerful people who choose to be good. To choose to make the world a better place.
Superpowers made just to be cool and show off are boring. There is only so much you can watch a fight with a cool power before it gets dull and repetitive. But you relate the powers, the struggles of using the powers, to the person wielding them, the story has a lot more staying power. The powers say something about the person, and is part of their development.
And honestly, Miraculous is a good case for why this is important.
Because good god, most of the superhero team is boring.
And I don't just mean because they're good people, so there's no spice, though that's also true, but because the powers aren't really used to emphasize anything about the character. Max has portals. Why? His mom wants to be an astronaut, but we never really hear about Max wanting to travel. Doorman is a better example of a portal hero because he loves going to other places and learning about them.
Now portals are good for a tactician....except Max is never the tactician despite the fact we know he's brilliant and is good at video games. He just does as he's told by Ladybug for where he should put his portals. Its so close, but its not utilized.
And that is the case for most of the superheroes. Like the bones are there, but nothing is properly utilized. Sabrina is definitely a dog, good at getting things, and is in fact well practiced in recognizing what things may or may not be important. But we've never actually gotten to focus on her BEING a superhero, she only had a small cameo with the power, basically. Same with Ivan, really. They're pretty perfect for their powers and it suits their personalities, but none of it is EXPLORED. And that's the case with most of the heroes.
Juleka and Rose were pretty good at using the Miraculous to develop more of someone's character and emphasize a strength about another in turn. These are good hero episodes because we learned more about them and their journey.
Kagami's first episode with the dragon showed off more of her, such as she could be reckless, which is new information, but we learn a lot about her without it, and nothing new beyond that.
Luka could have actually been incredibly good because the snake both emphasizes a big part of him, and something he needs to work on. Luka is someone who steps back and watches. He observes. However, he has a problem where he often is too willing to step back. But with the snake needs someone who can observe AND act. So its a Miraculous that uses an important part of his personality, but could have also helped him grow.
And the rest are just...nothing.
There is a little for Nino and Alya. Nino is definitely more bold about defending his friends than he was at first, and Alya learns to be better about secrets, but these are the primary secondary heroes. We should have seen a ton of impact and development due to them having the Miraculous.
Here is the stance Miraculous should be taking in their story.
The desperation of those trapped and the power of being given good options.
Most of the Akumas are people who are trapped. They feel powerless. They are desperate to escape their problem and feel like they have no proper recourse with things are they are. How accurate this is varies, but this is how they feel in the moment, and that is what Gabriel preys on. These people agree to the deal because they don't feel like they will be helped any other way.
Ladybug and Chat Noir are meant to bring hope to those who felt hopeless and chose a terrible way to try and escape. They are support. They are a hand people desperately need.
So by that same token, the Miraculous should be a good way for people who feel trapped to be given an option, OR give those people the ability to extend their own hands to help others.
While it doesn't have to every time, it should often be the case those who are given a Miraculous; A, dealing with a huge problem and the Miraculous helps them solve that problem, regardless to the Akuma being related. Like if Juleka was working on trying to speak up even if the Akuma wasn't her parents and the Tiger still helped her do that. B, they are related to the Akuma and why they feel trapped, so they are working through their own issues with the important person. Like Rose when Juleka felt guilty. Or C, the person wants to find a way to help in general and kind of go how it went with Nino becoming Carapace. Where they were trying to be that hand a person needed, and earn the Miraculous, and that helps them on their journey to provide more support and help.
But its often it is someone they know, but them being the hero doesn't REALLY matter. Penalteam, the people were just there, these specific people didn't matter. Why did Zoe need to be Vesperia? Anyone could have taunted Chloe and she got turned into a banana real fast, her being the Bee didn't really bring a lot, to the bee, to her, or even to Chloe, and then she proceeded to just not bring much as the Bee, to the story, or herself.
Now part of this problem is that Marinette is not allowed to not learn a lesson, and has to be the one to save the day. These heroes do have skills. They have things they could be good at. But often....the plan is just what Marinette says. These heroes are not allowed to have agency.
They can't make decisions on their own.
Often times, they're just bodies being told to do the power without the ability to make the decision how and when. Sometimes they let the heroes do things and make decisions, but nine times out of ten, its Marinette who says who does what and when and her mental health is degrading because of it.
The Akumas are stories that always at least tell us something about the person because we see what problems hit them hard. There is something to learn, a bit of conflict to develop from.
The Miraculous should be following that trend, but in a positive way, but...doesn't.
All that being said.
Chloe was entitled to the Miraculous.
Because here is the stance Miraculous takes.
Someone is trapped in a situation and chooses to lash out violently and while that violence can not be permitted to continue, the heroes offer their support so the victim can feel like they have another option.
This is the story of Miraculous crystalized. People who feel alone and helpless are easily convinced to hurt others until someone is willing to help them despite this harm.
Chloe is the story of Miraculous.
Akumas are a metaphor.
And Chloe is the reality.
A child who is alone. Who feels trapped in her situation. Who doesn't know what else to do. So she does the only thing she knows how. She lashes out. She hurts people. She keeps them distant because then it doesn't hurt as much when they leave, or when they treat her like dirt.
Chloe is an Akuma personified, but her problems are brief moments. They're not a bad day that someone took advantage of. They are ever present and continuous and more over, reinforced to continue.
Chloe knows being a brat gets her what she wants from her father and was never taught to not be like that. Because he didn't discipline her, because her mother acted like that, because all adults around her was staff. Making demands is what she was TAUGHT and learned, through observation and guidance.
A behavior she continued to do with kids, and she found out teachers responded to the same threats and was never properly stopped. Other kids, reasonably, didn't want to deal with her, or submitted to her like Sabrina.
Chloe was not never taught how to be good. She was, in fact, very much taught to NOT be good. Her parents both set a terrible example. Her father is a corrupt politician. He may spoil her, but he we know he bribes and blackmails people, plus, you know, abandoned his daughter and technically kidnapped Zoe. This is not a paragon of a man. Then there was her mother. But she had a choice, listen to the man who had to weasel and cheat and play back handed games to get what he wanted, or the woman who got anything and everything she wanted...of course she would try to be the woman who seemed to get everything her way.
Because if her mother got everything she wanted, if Chloe was like her, maybe she could get everything SHE wanted.
Except it wasn't working.
But Chloe wasn't taught it was because she was cruel. She just started to believe she wasn't GOOD ENOUGH.
Maybe if she was as great as her mother, it would work.
By the time she would be old enough to recognize that wasn't how the world worked...well, by then, most of her peers hated her.
And here is something I think goes under the radar about Zoe.
Zoe knows how to act like Chloe. Audrey didn't blink at it. Zoe defaulted to the same behavior as Chloe. Zoe said she put on an act and she was tired of it.
Zoe WAS CHLOE.
And we know what happened with Zoe. Zoe stopped acting like Chloe. And then she got bullied. People were mean and cruel and put cockroaches in her locker and she only had one friend.
I'm sure that's why Zoe moved to Paris. Zoe went to her mom because she wanted a clean slate. She wanted the bullying to stop.
Even then, she struggled to stop. She defaulted to her habit, and we see that she CONTINUED the act around the hotel for some weeks after, because it was a hard habit to break.
But then...
Zoe got support. A hand was held out to her. Marinette gave her a chance, and so did everyone else, and Zoe took it because she wanted to be herself and she wanted to stop being cruel. Of course she's nice. She was given the space to be so.
Chloe is never given that support.
Chloe doesn't know how to be kind. She doesn't know how to be nice.
But the greatest tragedy is Chloe does know how to be GOOD.
Out of all the heroes, besides Chat, to a lesser degree Alya, and Alix and Luka by nature of their Miraculous, Chloe shows the most agency as a superhero. All the other heroes have their hands held by Ladybug. She tells them what to do, to an overly specific degree, and they are just bodies to use a tool. Chloe? Chloe acts on her own. To good and bad effect. Discounting the whole Queen Wasp break down, just when Chloe is actually acting as a superhero, she doesn't wait for Ladybug to tell her everything all the time. She calls out to her father, which was a mistake, but then there is every other time she's Queen Bee...
And she's fantastic at it.
Miraculer, she almost had Mayura's Miraculous.
Star Train, she gets people away from the Akuma.
In Bakerix, she's the last the to leave the train car.
In Ladybug, she's defending Sabrina.
In Style Queen, played Style Queen in an effort to find a way to save Adrien.
In Heroes Day, she is a great teammate. Keep in mind, everyone on the team knows who Chloe is. Ladybug was desperate and doesn't fully trust Chloe as a general rule. Rena Rouge and Carapace definitely don't trust her at all. Chat Noir is the only one who believes in Chloe as a person.
And yet, throughout the entire fight, Chloe is keeping up and picking up the slack with everyone else. She fights, she keeps civilians from being hurt, her synergy is on fire despite the lack of trust. When Rena Rouge and Carapace go down, she is quick to try and protect them and even after two EXTREMELY dangerous Akuma show up by way of her parents, who are both gunning for her real hard, she holds her own for a while and even then, she had to be mind controlled to stop and to feel negative emotions. It took FOUR AKUMAS gunning for her specifically to corrupt her, akums who are made to mess her up mentally to boot. When they confront Gabriel at the end, she prepares venom without being asked, to have a back up for taking him down. She makes decisions and when she was trusted to act as a hero, they are largely good ones.
And she never once complained about the mental hardship of what she went through. Because that's the thing, all her times as Queen Bee are super intense. They are her loved ones she's fighting, they are incredibly powerful Akumas. She fought a frickin' army.
And everyone...
Just insults her.
She risked her life for people and no one cared.
She fought her family and no one cared.
Chloe doesn't know how to be nice. Nor kind. But she was so good. And while the next day, people appreciated her, it was only a day.
And the tragedy is Chloe didn't immediately go back to being a bully. After Despair Bear, Chloe's bullying habits took an extreme nose dive. We only see her being unreasonably cruel a few times. After Maledikator, the only time is when she bullies Aurore and when she teamed up with Marinette, but also Marinette was with her and they were both doing it for fear of losing Adrien reasons. Not reasonable, but also not just to be cruel and honestly, her plan was fairly benign. She wanted Kagami to leave, not even humiliate her. And even Aurore is because Chloe was reaching the point she did in Miraculer where she was doubting Ladybug's trust in her and as she is want to do, she lashed out.
Most of the time when we see Chloe, what we see is her bragging about being Queen Bee. Which, sure, isn't a great thing...
But better a braggart than a bully. And when things go wrong, she tries to use her status to help reassure and guide people, which is actually a pretty good idea. Akumas are attracted to negative emotions. If she can reassure them, then less likely of them getting akumatized. It may be bragging, but it could help.
Chloe may not have been picture perfect nice, but we literally have an entire classroom full of perfectly nice people. She may not be humble, but bragging is not a damnable offense. But Chloe was legitimately trying to be a better person. She put herself in between others and danger. She had faith and belief that there were solutions. Even without the Miraculous, she tried to help people.
She may have wanted appreciate and gratitude for it, but what's even sadder is she didn't require it.
Chloe believed in Ladybug for a long time. She believed Ladybug would trust her again. She believed she could be given a Miraculous again, and all on her own, ALL ON HER OWN, she was trying to be a better person.
Its actually amazing how good Chloe was being despite the fact no one was helping her.
Because that is the thing.
Zoe got support and help.
Chloe didn't.
Every. Single. Time. Chloe tried to do something different, something not cruel, she is rejected. She tries to join the art club and she's mocked out of it. She tries to be class representative, a job no one else wanted for years, and she loses it as soon as someone did challenge her. She auditions, legitimately, for a music video, with eight years of practice, and she loses it because she isn't nice enough.
She stops bullying, tries to be a reassuring presence, and she is treated with suspicion and derision.
And still.
And STILL.
That isn't what breaks her.
What breaks her is the realization the only time where her efforts were appreciated was taken away. And even then, she holds onto the pieces. Holds onto hope that maybe she would be given a new chance.
Her parents are in danger. The reason she was given she couldn't be a hero is because she and her loved ones would be in danger.
Except her loved ones were in danger.
She was in danger.
Not having a Miraculous didn't change anything. It didn't keep them safe, it didn't keep her safe.
And its only then, after months of no one believing in her for more than two days, of no one holding out their hand, helping her, supporting her, believing her, with the one person she thought DID believe in her proved that she didn't believe in her, and couldn't even give her the safety that not having a Miraculous was supposed to bring.
For months, Chloe only thought Ladybug believed she could be good.
Adrien wanted her to be less cruel, but Chloe knew her being good wasn't necessary for him.
Nor was it for Sabrina.
But Ladybug?
Ladybug needed her to be good to believe in her, and she thought Ladybug did.
Chloe was able to largely bite back her desires to lash out at people based purely on the fact one person, ONE SINGULAR PERSON, needed her to be good, and believed in her ability to be so. It got her derision. It got her suspicion. It got people comparing her to villains. It got her dismissal. But she still tried. She still believed.
A person who didn't really believe in Chloe very much.
And there is also the Watsonian argument that Marinette doesn't owe it to Chloe to help her improve AND THIS IS INCREDIBLY VALID and honestly, in a perfect world, it would be great if it was Adrien who helped Chloe improve.
Or you know, Zoe. Someone who has a clean slate with Chloe and understands where she's coming from and could help her.
But no, this is the Marinette Has To Solve Everything Show.
So from a Doylist view, it IS Marinette who has to help Chloe, but also the Watsonian problem could be helped if it was CLEARLY ESTABLISHED that Marinette knows she doesn't HAVE to help Chloe, and people aren't pressuring her to do so (coughBustiercough) because that is a bad message...
But Marinette can CHOOSE to help her and make that clear.
Because Marinette has seen a lot of Chloe and could understand that she really does just need a little more help. That Chloe needed just a bit more support and help. And, you know, didn't actively encourage Chloe to please her abuser.
But we're going from the Doylist view and we can solve the Marinette being the one to help Chloe problem by not having it be Marinette, but LADYBUG.
And this?
This is why I say Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
Because Chloe is the reality of the stance of the show, and so helping her problem with the metaphors would go a long way.
You see, Chloe doesn't know Ladybug is Marinette. And Marinette knows being Ladybug means being the bigger person. Ladybug believes in people. Ladybug helps everyone she can. Its not about the victim helping their bully, its the superhero choosing to help someone who NEEDS HELP.
Chloe is stuck in her situation. Her mother will always be emotionally abusive. Her father will always be an enabler. She can try to change, but no one will BELIEVE in her change. She will be derided and mocked and treated poorly because no one is willing to give her the chance to grow, and they certainly won't help.
Frankly, its a miracle that Chloe's Akumas are so merciful.
Because Banana Queen is the most destructive of Chloe's Akuma forms. Most of Chloe's Akuma forms don't care about HURTING people. They care about WINNING. She either wants to win or for people to just listen to her.
But give Chloe the Bee Miraculous, and suddenly things change.
Chloe feels like she has OPTIONS as Queen Bee. She doesn't feel she has to meet her mother's expectations as much if she's Queen Bee. She has people who trust and depend on her. At least right after she saves people, she gets a little praise, a little belief.
And people may say being a hero for glory and attention is a bad thing, but the thing is, Chloe's need for glory and attention is about being ACKNOWLEDGED. As feeling like people value and care about her. This is a BASIC HUMAN NEED and she doesn't know another way to get it. Its not like she's demanding physical things for her heroics.
She just wants to be appreciated.
By giving Chloe a Miraculous, she is given the tools to try and be good. She is given an escape from her situation. She is given SUPPORT in her efforts because the other heroes have to support her.
And over time...
That trust will grow.
Because what Chloe doesn't know, all her classmates are the other heroes.
And suddenly, all her classmates will see her as a different person. They will see what she's like when the chips are down. How much effort she's willing to put in. How seriously she takes the job.
Is she still a braggart? Sure. Is she still rude as hell? Absolutely.
But she will risk it all to help people, without asking for anything in return except a little faith.
Chloe is entitled to a Miraculous.
Because her story without a Miraculous is a story of a little girl who no one wanted to help, who were unwilling to offer her help because she lashed out while trying to survive a situation she couldn't escape, and because it wasn't super charged by a terrorist, she was deemed unworthy of it and instead deserving of isolation and constant emotional abuse.
But with a Miraculous?
Chloe is a girl who, when given a little faith, a little trust, a little help, returned it tenfold. Who puts her all in trying to be the best hero she could be. Is she imperfect? Sure. But she's giving it her all. (And frankly, she's spicy and it makes for entertaining character dynamics. You can have a character be a jerk and good, tsunderes are popular for a reason.) And as she gets more trust, as she gets more help, as she is offered that hand of help over and over again, she would continue to improve.
And as she's given power, she uses that same faith to figure out how to offer her hand to others. To help them. To spare them the same pain she suffered.
Because that is what given to the Akuma victims. They are given a little help, and a little power to break free of their magically abusive mindsets.
To have someone go from the continuing the cycle of abuse to someone who would save other people from that?
That is a real superhero story.
Chloe is undeserving from a Watsonian perspective.
But she's so very deserving from a Doylist perspective.
Jealousy is the Best Form of Punishment - Yunho + San
"Darling, you know how when weâre hanging around the guys and I, softly place my hand around your neck? Have you ever noticed that San canât stop staring at you when we do this?â
â˘pairing: dom!yunho x sub!fem!reader + sub!san
â˘word count: 1.5 k
â˘tags: mdni, suggestive, choking kink out the wazoo (f receiving), San's a little horn-ball, Yunho is a jealous boyfriend, praise kink, slight degradation, sex implied but not written out, lots of eye contact, voyeurism
Summary: Yunho teases reader by slightly choking them while hanging around the members, San can't control his eyes and Yunho notices, causing him to drag the both of you into his room and teaching him and you a lesson.
A/N: Inspired by this post I saw from my dear friend @shinestarhwaa (ily pookie!) Please be sure to drop a like, reblog if you enjoyed it, and comment your favorite part! Happy reading!
âââ シ ・ďžâ: .â˝ . :âďž. シ ・ďžâ: .â˝ . :âďž. シ ・ďžâ: .â˝ . :âďž. シ ・ďžâ: .â˝ . :ââââ
It started out as an innocent joke. Yunho would gently place his hand on your neck when around the members and occasionally give it a slight squeeze. Nothing too harsh, just a firm grip to cause you to get dizzy for a few seconds. Since he has naturally big hands, his fingers would reach perfectly around the sides, applying pressure to your sweet spots. Yunho knew you were into choking, and damn was he good at it. San was not oblivious to these minor gestures. He saw how flushed your cheeks would get every time his hand came near your neck, and that look of bliss on your face when he applied the slightest pressure to your neck. Although you were happily taken by Yunho and had been for a long time, San couldnât help the thoughts he had about you since you first started hanging around the members more often. He thought you were very attractive, and the looks on your face when Yunho would jokingly choke you definitely did not help his situation. On the flip side, Yunho saw Sanâs reactions every time he did that to you. The way his eyes fleeted back and forth between his hand wrapped around your neck and watching the expression on your face morph, softly biting the inside of his lip and his eyes darkening. Yunho is most definitely the jealous type, so he would lightly choke you every chance he could get to show San that you belonged to him and no one else.
â
Yunho got home one day and found San sitting on the couch, playing his video games. He was going to confront San peacefully about his observations.
âSan, can I talk to you for a second?â Yunho said in a monotone voice with no expression on his face.
âSure hyung! Iâll be there in a sec.â San replied as he was finishing up the round he was playing. Yunho nodded softly and walked into his bedroom. When Yunho walked in, he saw you sitting on his bed, playing on your phone. You looked up at him with a big smile. Sitting your phone on the bed, you got up and wrapped your arms around his waist to hug him.
âHey handsome! What are you doing back so early?â Yunho placed his finger over your lips to silence you with a soft âshhâ coming out of his mouth. Your eyebrows contorted, and you looked up at him, confused.
âBaby, Iâm about to do something and I need you to not get mad or upset about it. Okay?â
Confused as hell by what he could be doing, you softly nodded your head, still with a confused expression on your face, trusting Yunho that you would be in good hands (haha). Not too long after your brief conversation, San walks in.
âEverything alright hyun-?â San stops his sentence when he sees you in the room, as well as Yunho. âY-Y/N! I didnât know you were here!â Sanâs expression becomes nervous as he looks at Yunho. His throat becomes dry, and he swallows his spit to try and alleviate it. Fumbling with his hands, San finally opens his mouth again. âW-what did you need me for Yun-?â
âSit down.â Yunho barks at San and tilts his head toward the chair in his room. San nods a few times before making his way over to the chair, his eyes not leaving you or Yunho. You turn to Yunho and notice the slight angry expression on his face. Your heart sinks down into your stomach at the cold expression heâs giving.
"Yunho, whatâs going on?"
âQuiet Y/N.â Yunho pauses for just a moment, glaring at San one more time before turning to you, placing his hands on your hips, and turning you to face him. âSan thinks itâs all fine and dandy to stare at something that isnât his.â Your eyes go between staring at his right eye and his left eye. Yunhoâs eyes darkening as you keep staring at each other. âDarling, you know how when weâre hanging around the guys and I, softly place my hand around your neck?â Yunhoâs movements follow his words, acting out his speech. Your heart rate increases slightly as Yunhoâs hand gets closer to your neck. You dare not break eye contact with Yunho right now. âGiving you the gentlest of squeezes, right on your sweet spots? Causing you to see a hint of stars?â
Yunhoâs eyes glance over at San, and he can see the younger member struggling to keep himself together. Harshly biting his lip, his legs crossed to hide the slight erection forming in his pants, gripping the arms of the chair so hard that his knuckles are white. Yunho smirks and directs his attention back to you. Your cheeks are perfectly flushed and eyes droopy just the slightest bit.
âI asked you a question. Itâs nice to respond, you know?â Yunho grips your neck a little tighter, causing your mouth to drop open and let out the softest whimper.
âY-Yes Yunho! I-Iâm sorry! I know what you mean."
âGood girl~. Have you ever noticed that San canât stop staring at you when we do this?â
Completely forgetting that San was also in the room with you guys, you softly turn your head as much as Yunhoâs hand would let you and see San struggling to stay still. His foot is now bouncing up and down, legs still crossed, but one of his hands has left the arm of the chair and is now placed in his lap, right where his crotch would be. Fidgeting like a nervous dog.
âPrincess! Stop ignoring my questions!â Yunhoâs booming voice echoed in your ears, causing you to turn back to him quickly.
âS-sorry! Y-Yes I have noticed!â Yunho inches closer to your face, leaning in toward your ear.
âHow does that make you feel~?" You had to think for a moment because in all honesty, it made you feel good, but how could you tell Yunho that? You were beyond thrilled when he started to show more risque public displays of affection around the members. You wanted to know what they really thought of you. How many of them secretly liked you or what they would do to you behind closed doors when Yunho wasnât there to claim you for himself?
âM-makes me feel good sir!â You closed your eyes in fear of what his reaction would be to your honesty.
âGood huh?â He paused for a few seconds to let your answer sink in. âDidnât think my girlfriend was such an attention-seeking whore."
The grip around your neck tightens and your arms wrap around and come up Yunhoâs back and grip onto the shirt heâs wearing. You tilt your head back and let out a choked moan. The sensation of him squeezing your airways shut was so intoxicating and you genuinely could never get enough of it. The thought of Yunho being in control of your breathing drove you insane. His grip around your neck loosens, and you take a deep breath. Eyes opening up to see Yunho smirking menacingly at you. You donât break eye contact for a few seconds until Yunho looks back over at San and sees what a mess heâs becoming. Yunho chuckles softly and turns your head for you to look at him.
âWhat a mess heâs becoming, and itâs all because of you. Isnât that so special~?â You canât help but notice San is now rutting his hips into his hand, trying to provide some stimulation in his situation. His lip appears red and swollen because of how hard heâs been biting it this whole time. His face is lightly covered in sweat and heâs breathing heavily.
âFuckâŚd-donât look at me like that Y/N, p-please.â He mutters out, his eyes focused on you staring at him in his desperate state. His eye twitches, and he pants out as he continues to push his hips into his hand.
âS-San.â You calling out his name caused him to whimper softly and lean forward a bit to try to get closer to what he was seeing in front of him. Seeing him act like this sent a wave of heat down to your core. You never knew he was this down bad for you.
âHe so desperately wants to cum. Do you think we should let him?â
âW-We?â You stutter out, surprised that Yunho is giving you an option. Looking back at San, you can see him nodding his head profusely and whispering âpleaseâ a thousand times. âYes Yunho.â You say while staring at San, and you watch as his eyes light up and he quickly unzips his pants and whips his dick out. Before you could look any harder at Sanâs cock, Yunho pushes you down on the bed and sits his weight on top of you. His hair falls gently over his face, and his expression gets darker.
âHe can deal with himself over there, but now I have to deal with you for acting like a whore all the fucking time.â He growls through gritted teeth as he unzips his and your pants, pulls yours down along with your underwear, and does the same for him. Pinning your hands above your head and holding them together with one of his massive hands. You knew you were in for a night of trouble.
Conversations with a younger colleague about I/P conflict
In my department there is a grad student who is friendly with myself and a few others of the openly nerdy ecologists. We actively talk about anime, video games, TTRPGs, etc... We've also all collaborated on research together because we generally study the same thing, and being a grad student we are also letting them helm their own research to carve their own path. The research topic that links all of us is decomposition ecology.
Meaning, we study death, how it effects the environment, and all the things having to do with it. Often we have our own terms that we define and use, but we also work within the framework of various medical and legal definitions nationally and internationally. Recently this student has been talking to me about the I/P conflict because it has dominated their social media feed. Like many young adults, this is their first I/P conflict and their first exposure to anything regarding that region. As such, they have come to me to talk about things knowing that I am Jewish. Not out of maliciousness, but because I am the only person they talk to that has any sort of connection to it. Over these past months they have repeated the "genocide/Holocaust" rhetoric that we have seen Western Activists use to make the conflict the Worst Thing Ever. Our conversation went as follows: GS: I can't believe they're committing a Holocaust on them after what they went through. Me: How is it a Holocaust? GS: They're committing a genocide against the Palestinians. Me: They're not doing either one, but let's touch upon the first thing you said. How? GS: They're killing them in large numbers! Me: Oh...oh...that's not what made the Holocaust the Holocaust, you know that right? It was years of systematic dehumanization that culminated in what we know. There were death camps, torture, experimentation, and so much more than simple "killing in large numbers". GS: Damn public school education... Me: You didn't really go over it too much did you? GS: WWII was, like, a week I want to say. Me: *sigh* yeah, not surprised at all. GS: Okay, so a genocide then? Me: GS, what do we study? GS: Decomp Me: and that involves? GS: Death Me: One avenue of which is mass casualty events which a number of our friends have published on. GS: Yeah! I read those papers, they were really good. Me: They were, but do you remember conversations we had about them and what differentiates mass casualty events from one another? GS: Cause? Me: And...? GS: Shit. Intent. Me: Exactly. Has their been an official stated intent to commit any genocide? I mean, you've got the bigots in the government like Ben Givir and the shit they say, I'll give you that. But has the official stance been genocidal? GS: No. I don't think so. Me: What has it been? GS: To get the hostages back and get rid of Hamas. Me: Uh huh, and what has been Hamas's stated intent? GS: To kill Zionists. Me: And before 2017 when they changed the wording in their charter? GS: ah fuck...it's Jews isn't it? Me: Ding ding ding. GS: So that's why no one in the group has said it's a genocide... Me: Correct. Humanitarian crisis brought about by war? Yes. Mass casualty event? Certainly. But genocide? Well, there's a reason no one in our circle has endorsed the term. And remember, we're considered experts on death. GS: I got puppeted didn't I? Me: Yep. GS: Shit. The only reason this went so well is due to our friendship and mentor/mentee dynamic. They already trust me to not lead them astray, be informed, and address the holes in their knowledge. Hell, they help me be a better scientist as well with how they bring in new and novel techniques that I didn't know. But they're still getting a lot of their info from TikTok and IG, and they've talked about a lot of BS from those two particular apps these past few years. This is just the latest (they had a TikTok induced anti-GMO trend for a while, it was bad).
#jumblr#misinformation#I/P misinformation#Correct terminology#Death experts#Seriously - we have a precise definition for genocide and this ain't it
the ninja with ninja!reader who has spatiokinesis
pairings: main 6 x reader (separate, ninjago)
warnings: violence, cussing
authors note: spatiokinesis is the power to manipulate space and everything in it, i think itâs so cool because thereâs not really a space ninja, i feel like a ninja with spatiokinesis would have a purple gi but doesnât nelson have that? not sure if i described this stuff right because i got a lot of information, some opposing each other so sorry about that. also, i did a oneshot + hcs for this preference! send requests, i love doing them :3
COLE BROOKSTONE
you and cole are resting in the living room of the monastery, playing video games together on the couch. a blanket is draped on your laps as your knees touch, controllers in your hands. the both of you are talking, subjects switching from the video game itself to missions.
the conversations subject switches, as you finish the game and put your controllers down, cole looks in your direction and smiles, âhey, iâm glad weâre together right now. we havenât been able to hang out, like, at all for the past few months. iâve really missed youâŚâ
you smile back at him, a vulnerable moment between you two. you wrap your arms around his shoulders, placing your head near his neck. he wraps his arms around your waist, the two of you stay like that for a couple minutes, murmuring soft whispers to each other.
the moment is interrupted when the door is opened, a voice you recognize as master wu greets, âcole, y/n.â you lift your head, unwrapping your arms from cole as he does the same, the two of you look at each other then to master wu. the rest of the ninja walk in, sitting on the couches and chattering amongst each other.
the bearded man walks in your direction, standing in between two couches, all of your attention on him. he speaks, âtwo of you have to go on a mission, a mission to make allies with two kingdoms. one on earth⌠and one on a different planet.â he pauses, âand it will be cole and y/n. the rest of you are excused.â
the ninja gasp, immediately erupting with words of disbelief and arguing with him. they soon walk out one by one as master wu ushers them out. you and cole look at each other, smiling, you whisper to him, âweâll have more time together then, yeah? could be fun, i know all about space!â master wu coughs, your attention on him again. he says, âthe two of you are going, space and earth go hand in hand. you complete each other, and iâm sure youâve noticed that long ago.â he pauses, smiling, âyou will leave in two days. i will tell you more tomorrow, get some sleep, you two.â
he walks out of the room as you thank him, you exclaim, âoh my gosh! weâll have so much time together, iâm so excited!â he replies, âi bet itâll be so fun, ooh! and since weâre gonna be in kingdoms, weâll probably get good food and,â his mouth opens, his eyes glistening with anticipation, âreally comfortable beds!â
you gasp, âyouâre right! and weâll get to go to a planet! iâve been to a few planets, but never one that had a kingdom!â he replies, âwait, wait, wait. which planets have you been to? are they cool?â hours pass by as the conversation goes on and on, eventually falling asleep in each others arms.
the two of you are literally so perfect together, earth and space complete one another, as do you and cole
both of you make an effort to learn about the others powers and even have to go on missions, just the two of you, because your powers compliment each others so well
probably randomly calls you a cringe but cute nickname related to space because he loves to see you flustered then roll your eyes
you have something between you two that is seemingly unexplainable by everyone around you, you and cole see each other as equals and love each other
all the ninja believe youâre soulmates, you fulfill each other in ways the team canât possibly comprehend but see how much the earth canât live without space, literally and figuratively
occasionally, heâll ask you to create a portal so the two of you can see the earth although youâre on it
he just thinks itâs beautiful and because itâs surrounded by space, itâs even better, believing there is nothing more appealing than that view while being in your presence
JAY WALKER
you and the ninja are in a warehouse, each of you watching above from the top of the large shelves. you and jay kneel down next to each other and looking amongst each other. you then hear clanging in front of you, a large door, sparks coming from the sides, grabbing your attention.
the door falls down, you see the mechanic and his henchmen standing in place. he smirks, âweâre in, boys!â they look around, not yet walking in, he continues, âlook at all this old junkâŚâ he turns to the man in a hoodie and mask next to him, grabbing his hood and saying, âjust because itâs old doesnât make it junk, just forgotten.â the mechanic drops the man, pointing in front of him, commanding, âfind the motherboard!â
the henchmen, dressed in various outfits rush to look through all the junk. the mechanic walks through the warehouse, looking around in case he spots anything interesting. he sees a box, one filled with all kinds of circuit boards. he stops in his tracks, pointing at it, âthere! the top shelf!â
one of the men grab a latter, placing it on a shelf so he can climb up. he grabs the box, accidentally dropping it, yelping, and falling into another box filled with styrofoam. the mechanic scolds him, âcareful with those!â and grabs the manâs clothing, pulling him out of the box, causing the man to fall to the ground.
the mechanic examines at the circuit boards, looking out for a black and red one. âwhat are we looking for, boss?â one of the henchmen asks, approaching the mechanic. he replies, âthis is it! a needle in a haystack⌠a very, very valuable needle.â he says, the henchmen surrounding him and looking at the board.
you pat nya on the shoulder, nodding as a gesture to show herself to the mechanic and her henchmen. she then nods, looking to the other ninja as they nod too, lloyd gives jay the signal to turn on the lights. he zaps the light switch, turning it on and causing the group below to look around, covering their eyes.
you stand up, the rest of the ninja doing the same as you all look down on the group. nya announces, âsorry to crash the party, boys!â you all jump down, the blue ninja next to you jokes, âguess our invitations got lost in the mail, huh?â first looking at the mechanic then to you. the skin around his eyes crinkle, you guess he is smiling.
you smile back, he begins to grab out his sword when lloyd objects, âno weapons, guys! these are just low level thugs.â you put your arm in front of jay, he puts his arm back to his side and gives up trying to take his weapon out. âmy fists are my weapons!â cole says, punching the air.
zane looks at the other ninja, arguing, âi would not classify the mechanic as âlow level.â he is suspected in thirty-six unsolved criminal cases.â he gestures to the man, uncertainty visible just through his upper half of his face.
âthirty-seven.â the mechanic corrects, he takes out a machine. an arm mechanism jumps out at the nindroid, forcing a yelp out of him and pushing him into a pile of junk. jay looks back, then to the mechanic, moving into a fighting stance, âyouâre not getting away that easy!â
a surge of confidence runs through the mechanic, he smirks, âwhoâs trying to get away? there are more of us than you!â he gestures around him, holding his arms out and looking around. they are huddled in a group, almost as if they are trying to escape.
the leader scowls, nodding to come back to him. the men look nervous, eyes glancing at each other as they walk back to the mechanic, taking their weapons out. as two stand next to him, he says, âand weâre not afraid to use our weapons!â he uses a machine, flames come out of it as he aims it at lloyd, you chuckle, he fails to hurt the green ninja every time.
jay looks around, another box of circuit boards catches his eyes, he picks up three blue ones, grunting, âi have no problem using these!â he throws them at the group, âtake that, obsolete file formats!â you giggle, your attention is on the mechanic once the motherboard falls out of his hands.
it falls onto the ground, kai runs to catch it, falling onto the ground as well. three men gang up on him, jumping onto him so he canât get up. they grab his arm as he accidentally throws it to another man, who looks clueless as he doesnât know what to do. he smiles, lloyd drops one of the men and throws him to the ground, chasing after the motherboard.
you roll your eyes at kaiâs mistake, you look around to see jay getting targeted by another henchman. as they punch and kick each other, you open up a portal to space behind the man, âdonât fall in, jay!â a look of fear is on the henchmanâs and jayâs face. he quickly snaps out of the surprised state of mind, using his lightning and zapping the man into the portal. it begins to get smaller and smaller as you close it.
the blue ninja looks amazed, âwhere did you learn to do that? thatâs so cool!â he exclaims. you shrug, smiling as youâre focused on his compliment. âcouldnât have done it without you, honey!â you wink, he giggles, âoh, i love you so muchââ nya begins to tease the two of you, âmind helping, lovebirds?â
you and jay look to each other smiling before running after a couple men and fighting them.
jay loves figuring out how things work, being interested in technology and all that stuff
so itâs no surprise heâs at least a tad bit interested in space, itâs more how rocket ships work and how theyâre made though
he gets all excited when asking if youâve been to specific planets or have seen asteroids, comets, black holes, etc
âyeah, seeing two black holes collide wasnât as scary as i thought itâd beââ
âwhat!? are you serious, thatâs so cool! was it loud or silent, because i donât understand?!â
he can go on and on just ranting about space as you will listen although you know more than he does
takes you to museums where thereâs spacecraft, so technology, then thereâs information about planets and assets in space, both of you enjoy it very much
makes jokes about space in hopes of you laughing at them, saying âitâs so quiet here⌠iâm just trying to fill the spaceâ while you guys are literally in space
KAI SMITH
you are at the library in the monastery of airjitzu, sitting and meditating on a mat you placed on a ground, different colored books stacked up around you. eyes closed, your legs crossed as your palms lay on your knees, your breathing is even and calm.
your mind is focused on how you can make up a plan to defeat krux and acronix, you were told youâre the most important ninja at the time because youâre the elemental master of space, meanwhile the twins are the masters of time.
time and space cannot exist without one another, they are linked as one, a single continuum. one of your ancestors had accidentally opened a wormhole, one people could travel through and survive in to time travel. the twins didnât have all the time blades yet, so they had threatened your father to open a portal into space into a wormhole, which he had given into.
they have been changing the past, therefore affecting the future, and you are instructed to close the wormhole so they canât travel. as they battle the elemental masters, they donât have the forward blade but having the others.
you open your eyes at the sound of a door opening, frustrated at not being able to focus on opening a portal to space. you had never understood how you can survive without a suit, while other humans canât. your throat tightens up, your eyes sting as kai walks in your direction, âhey, babe, you doing okay?â
he kneels down to your height as you are still sitting down, moving books out of the way so he can sit next to you. you hesitate, âiâm okay, i canât focus that well⌠i need to close that wormhole, even if they succeed in fighting the elemental masters somehow, they donât have the forward blade, so they canât come back. but i canât go back in time to destroy the blades, that would change everythingâŚâ
as you rant, your boyfriend begins to feel bad for you, you are clearly stressed but you are the only one who has the ability to deal with the twins. he stays quiet, you silence yourself for a few minutes, focused as your eyes are closed. you hold your hand out, a large, purple orb forming into a black portal, white spots as stars. a large, blue hole is within the portal, shining bright in your eyes, a wormhole, you think.
you look at kai before looking at the portal, he nods and smiles, âiâll see you in a few minutes. be careful, please.â you nod, smiling at him and placing your hands on his shoulders, leaning to give him a kiss on the cheek. you look at him one last time before walking into the portal, it closes behind you.
you are enveloped by darkness, yet looking around and seeing small bright lights and circles that represent planets. as the large, blue hole is in front of you, you focus, purple lights coming out from both of your hands, brightness overcoming the wormhole. as noises overwhelm you, you open your eyes to see no wormhole left.
you turn around, observing your surroundings to see the wormhole is completely gone, you hope krux and acronix canât come back. easily opening a portal back to the library of the monastery of airjitzu, seeing kai waiting for you, standing and pacing.
you use your powers to give you a boost, moving you closer to the portal as you lift your leg up to step onto the floor. you walk in, the portal closing behind you. kai runs to you, âoh, thank god, y/n! are you okay? did you close it?â
you nod, his hands on your shoulders, âiâm okay, i closed the wormhole but⌠i donât know if it did anything.â
he responds, a small smirk on his face, âweâll have to see then, wonât we?â
kai never understands a single word you say about space but listens anyway
sometimes youâll tell him about supernovas or asteroids or anything else in space, he gets all confused and makes you repeat it
âyâknow⌠i was close to the sun once, not enough to burn but enough to be super hot, and fuck, was it loud! shit almost burst my eardrums, was even worse since i was getting warmer by the secondâŚâ
âhuh?â
heâll make references to space when youâre talking about something, it lets you know heâs paid attention to your conversations
always talking about how heâs as hot as the sun, itâs such a basic thing he says but you laugh and roll your eyes each time, telling him itâs not the hottest thing that exists
probably got sucked into space once when you opened a portal in a fight, he couldnât make any noise so you had to grab his hand within a few seconds and pull him back to you
after that, he brags to others that heâs been to space even though he was scared shitless when he was pulled into space on accident
teases you and calls you silly nicknames related to space
âthey kinda look like a tardigay or whatever itâs calledâŚâ
âtardigrade⌠wait, kai, thatâs so rude!!â
LLOYD GARMADON
your boyfriend, lloyd, trains arin and sora in the center of the monastery. he has been telling you about his nightmares, heâs been losing sleep more and has wanted to be in the same room with you almost all the time. you know you canât do much to help him, but you decide to make him a little gift to hopefully cheer him up.
as you sit down at your desk in your room, you look at the framed photos, one with you and all the ninja making silly faces at the dinner table. the other is a photo of you and lloyd making shocked expressions in front of statues, designed to look like the two of you. you smile at the thought, remembering how excited you and the ninja were to see statues of yourselves.
you hear grunting and complaints from outside, causing you to become concerned. you stand up from your chair, walking to the door and leaning on it, watching lloyd correct sora and arin with their posture.
the former imperian pants, âwhy canât we train on days when itâs colder? itâs like, scorching out here!â looking at arin, as he seems out of breath but standing up straight. lloyd places his hand on his hip, slightly annoyed, âiâm training you so you can become the best. canât do that if youâre inconsistent with it.â
she rolls her eyes, complying, âfine.â and hops on one of the wooden pillars, jumping from each one to the next. arin looks at lloyd, gaining a nod as a gesture to follow after sora. as you watch, you remember how dreadful it was to train in thick clothes in hot weather.
you begin to feel bad for the kids, you walk outside your room to the kitchen, not being noticed as lloyd and the two kids are focused on their training. as you slide open the door to the kitchen, you walk in, opening the wooden cabinets and grabbing three large glasses. you then fill them up one by one with water from the sink.
once you are done, you walk back to the center of the monastery, waiting for the two kids to be done with the training course. lloydâs back is to you, he sits on a mat as a table is in front of him, a small cup and a teapot on it.
you walk next to lloyd, standing next to him and bending down to hold a glass of water out to him. his attention is pulled away from arin and sora, he looks up at you and smiles. he gently grabs the glass from your hands, âthanks, honey. whereâve you been? i feel like i havenât seen you in forever.â he places his hand on your back, drinking the glass of water you gave him.
âoh! iâve been in my room for a while, i slept in really late, didnât sleep that well last night. these are for the kids.â you say, gesturing to the glasses of water. the blonde smiles, placing his water down on the table in front of him and offering, âhere, iâll take those.â you smile as he takes them from your hands, your fingers brushing against each other.
you hear a thump, you and lloydâs attention turn to the kids in front of you. arinâs bright orange hoodie is on the ground, heâs laying on his stomach as his arms are splayed out. sora stands near him, a disappointed look on her face as her arms are crossed.
lloyd has a worried look on his face, âarin, buddy, you okay? y/n got you two waterââ the boys head quickly turns back, placing his hands on the ground and standing up, running to the table as sora follows after him.
he grabs one of the glasses that looks more filled, lloydâs glass is separated from the two others. arin gulps down the water in the glass, sora grabs hers, âfinally, some water! i was so thirsty!â she drinks it quickly, wiping her mouth after she is done. they both place their cups on the table.
lloyd crosses his arms, a disapproving expression on his face, frowning at the two. arin and sora glance at each other, wondering why lloyd seems upset, their attention switches to the blonde. he crosses his arms and asks, âwhat do you say?â gesturing to you.
âthank you!â they both exclaim, eliciting a smile from you. arin looks at you for a second, a grin spreading across his face, the corners of his lips turn upwards, âyouâre the space ninja!â you nod at him. sora looks at you and lloyd, noticing how his hand is on your back and how the space between the two of you is small.
she turns to the black haired boy next to him, whispering in his ear, âare they together? theyâre super close and lloydâs hand is on her backâŚâ lloydâs eyebrow goes up, he asks, suspicious, âhey, what are you two talking about?â
arin answers sora, not bothering to whisper, âuhâŚ. i donât know!â lloyd takes his hand off your back, placing his hands on his hips, a stern look on his face, âdonât know what?â
you place your hand on his forearm, softly saying, âiâll be back in probably an hour, âkay, handsome?â his face relaxes into a lovesick grin, placing his hand on yours as you squeeze it and walk towards your room.
you chuckle as you hear mumbling and âooohâs from the center of the monastery. you walk into your room, sitting on the chair meant for your desk and opening a portal to space. itâs dark in the portal, you focus, holding your hands out and forming a sphere out of dark matter. it forms into a small asteroid, probably about the diameter of the size of your hand, the tip of your middle finger to the bottom of the palm of your hand.
you use your powers to bring the small asteroid out of the portal, gently placing it on a stand on a silver sphere holder on your desk. you close the portal, taking clay out of the silver bag on your desk, coloring dye next to it. you form the body of a boy, adding spiked blonde hair to his scalp. you then add a small amount of green dye to some clay, making a shirt and wide leg pants for the boy, wrapping it around his legs, torso and arms.
taking a small amount of clay from the bag, about the size of the tip of your pinkie, you add a drop of red dye into it, mixing it and getting your hands red in the process. you form a bow tie, putting it on the boys green shirt, you then wrap another part of the red clay around his waist as a belt.
grabbing the black dye, you put a miniature amount into some clay, rounding two sections of it and forming it into eyes. you make three other sections, adding small buttons onto the boys shirt. you add a large amount of orange to a part of clay, making lines of it and connecting them to make a chair.
with the rest of the orange clay, you create shoes for the boy, sharp tips and small heels. it doesnât look as appealing as you wished, you didnât have brown dye so you decided to stick with orange. as you stick the shoes onto the boy, you place him on the asteroid. the chair is behind him, yet he is not sitting on it.
you create flowers with green, yellow and red clay, placing them in a group on the asteroid. taking some of the leftover red and green clay, you make a rose. you didnât have something to cover it with, so you placed it on the asteroid and left it on there. with some orange clay, you make a stand after turning it into lines, connecting them. you round another part of it, forming it into a pan. you place the stand on an elevated part of the asteroid, placing the pan on the stand.
making roots out of dark orange clay, you place some onto the asteroid, scattering them. you stare at your creation, looking to your right and realizing that an hour has passed since youâve seen lloyd. you snap back into reality, hearing words of advice from a familiar voice, he talks to his students.
you then hear, âalright, you two. once youâre done with the course, iâll start making dinner.â arin and sora exclaim, cheering as you hear stomps and noises of jumping from pillar to pillar and ducking from moving targets. once you hear only speaking and steps moving to the kitchen, you assume sora and arin are gone.
you walk out, picking up the asteroid with your magic and heading to lloydâs direction. the sky is dark, stars and lamps being the only sources of light. the blonde turns to you as he hears your footsteps, smiling at the sight of you.
he walks towards you, once you are in less than arms length apart, he looks at the asteroid and gasps, âis that the little prince?â thereâs a smile on his face as he observes every part of it, you nod, âthe little prince reminds me of you, ill make a little rake later so he can get rid of the baobabs.â he smiles at the little detail, you continue, âitâs for you.â
his mouth slightly widens, his expression softens as he looks at you with love, âyou know i love that book, right?â he takes in more details about your creation, continuing, âwe can put it on my desk in my room, but then i have to make dinner for sora and arin.â
the two of you walk to his room as you compliment, âthose two are different, arenât they? real talented, i donât train them but i can hear them saying words, doubting themselves. they are capable of a lot more than they give themselves credit for.â you slide open the door to his room, asking, âhere?â as you place it on his desk, he agrees.
after placing it on his desk, you continue to talk about the progress of the kids as you walk to the kitchen. arin and sora are at the dinner table, talking amongst one another. when you pass by, you and lloydâs shoulders continuously bump against each other, talking as you take ingredients out of the fridge and pantry.
the two kids quiet down to listen in, hearing you and their mentor giggling and making jokes. the two of you call each other sweet names, complimenting each other. arin and sora look into the kitchen, seeing lloydâs back and his blonde hair as he comes up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and kissing your cheek.
sora smirks, looking at arin as his jaw looks like itâs about to drop to the ground. she chuckles, âtold you.â
you and lloyd sometimes arenât necessarily considered elements, as civilians would describe his power as âgreenâ and yours as âspaceâ but the other ninja have water, ice, fire, earth and lightning
so the two of you are kind of thought of as different, a bit separated from the ninja
he loves hearing you talk about space because you know all about it, heâs a total nerd and loves to add facts to yours
as there isnât much to read about lloydâs powers, he instead reads books and documentaries about space then brings it up in a conversation, or he asks you questions
âhey y/n, is space actually silent? iâve heard a lot of information about it, but a lot of it opposes another thing⌠soâŚ?â
âoh, yeah, itâs silent! thereâs no molecules or atoms or any of that to carry a sound wave, so thereâs no sound. thereâs no air.â
if the two of you are separated because of a mission or one of you got captured, if lloyd can see space or the stars, heâll just stare up at it for hours
it calms him down because he knows youâll always be there in some figurative way, to him, you are space and everything in it
NYA SMITH
you scroll through tiktok, seeing a video of a couple writing their initials on a lock and placing it on a fence of some sort. you smile, it reminds you of nya. you send it to her, she replies, âTHATS SO CUTEEE!! i have two locks come to my room ill show youâ
closing out of the tiktok app, you press a button on the side of your phone to turn it off, sitting up from your bed and standing up. you slide open the door, sliding it closed after walking out. you walk to your right, your bedroom being right next to nyaâs.
slowly sliding open the door, you hear a recognizable voice, ây/n? is that you? if so, come in! i have a sharpie we can write our initials with!â at the words of her welcoming you in, you fully slide open the door. she sits on the blue covers of her bed, a dark blue pattern near the feet of the bed.
a sharpie and two gold locks are in her hands, she smiles and looks up at you, gesturing for you to sit next to her. you sit down next to her, asking, âwhere would we put them after weâve written our initials?â
she thinks for a moment, staring off at one of her weapons as she decides, âit wouldnât be the healthiest to put it straight into the ocean, so maybe on a fence, like how it was shown in the video! then we can put the other one somewhere else too, where are you thinking for the other one?â
you think, sheâs putting her lock near the ocean, which connects with her powers. you state, âi could connect it to the flag on the moon? i donât know, thatâs all i can think ofâŚâ you shrug.
âyay! itâs gonna be so cute, here, i already wrote my initials on two of them, write yours on too!â she exclaims, handing the sharpie and two locks to you. you grab the items from her, taking the cap off of the sharpie and writing your initial next to âN + â on both locks.
you ask, âshould i put the lock on the flag on the moon now?â she nods, answering your question, âyeah! i can watch, iâve always wanted to see the moon up close!â she chuckles. you warn her, âokay, but when i open the portal, do not get sucked in, just donât fall in, itâs real dangerous!â
she nods, walking to the other side of the bed as you look back at her before looking in front of you. you use your powers, creating a portal to space, which happens to be right in front of the moon. you hop in, your powers assisting you, pushing you towards the moon. as you land, you walk around to find the flag of ninjago pushed into the surface.
as the lock is already unlocked, you give it a good look one more time before hooking it around the pole of the flag, pushing part of the metal into the lock itself. you smile, hopping and giving yourself a boost with your powers, the portal is still open. you travel to the portal, your girlfriend watching you intently.
you place your hands on the flooring of nyaâs room, using leverage to push yourself up, stepping on the floor and walking in. you close the portal behind yourself, the black haired girl in front of you giggles, âthat was so cool! now i can say iâve seen the moon!â
you smile at her, walking over to her side of the bed and leaning into her, gently grabbing her hand and placing a soft kiss on her cheek. she smiles, âitâs getting late, hon. we should go to bed, itâs really lateâŚâ
looking to the clock on her desk, itâs past one in the morning. your eyes widen, you begin to yawn. both of you are already in your pajamas, so nya pulls the covers down, laying down in bed. she leaves some space for you, smiling.
you walk over to the entrance of her room, turning the lights off. you walk back to her, feeling around the bed as she pats the space next to her. you sit on the bed, laying down as you pull the blankets back onto your chest, turning on your side to face nya. you place an arm over her waist, she places a hand on your back.
âgoodnight y/nâŚâ she mumbles, slowly falling into a deep sleep. you are too tired to respond, mumbling no specific words.
both of you are so connected to your powers, she can take the form of the ocean as you can take the form of space itself or anything in it
as i said in a previous post, she loves going on dates with you where you dip your feet into the ocean while eating little snacks, whispering softly to each other as you look out for shooting stars
researches about topics youâve previously talked about, wanting to have more advanced and detailed conversations about space with you
âhey, you know that star you were talking about a few days ago? i heard it was 20,000 to 25,000 kelvin⌠but what is kelvin anyway?â
âoh, itâs a measurement of temperature⌠itâs the same thing as celsius though, i donât know why they had to make another name for it!â
gives you little gifts related to space because it reminds her of you, also keeps some in her bedroom in case youâre away for whatever reasons
you have a necklace with a bottle of water from the ocean in it, she has a necklace with a bottle of moon dust in it, gifted by each other
ZANE JULIEN
as you and zane stand in the middle of the monastery, you converse, deciding how you will train with one another. you ask, âz, how are we gonna train?â he smiles at the nickname, thinking for a few moments. âit would be most efficient to wear our gi and armor, but we havenât have trained with no rules. lately, it has only been fist to fist fighting. using our powers would be a helpful way to train for today.â
you nod, agreeing, âthat makes sense.â both of you back up from each other, a good amount of space between you two. you stare at zane, waiting for him to say when to fight, he stares back. you then hear a voice from behind you, one you can register as kai, âif you guys are training, you should just goââ at the word, you and zane leap to each other.
the nindroid attempts to blast you with ice, failing as you dodge it. you hold up your hand, a circular, purple hue appears, which you can only guess is dark matter. you aim at zane, blasting it at him. he yelps, only dodging it by less than an inch.
frustrated by your failure, you scowl, opening a portal to space as your boyfriend uses his ice powers to make a flooring under you. you slide as he blasts you with ice, it hits your stomach, making you hunch over in pain. as it pushes you farther, you use your powers to bring a very small asteroid from the portal, smaller than zane himself yet as tall as half of his body. closing the portal, you use your powers to push it towards him.
his eyes widen using his ice powers to freeze it, making a pole to connect the asteroid and the ground, it freezes in midair. he doesnât move, you rush towards him and exclaim, âoh gosh, iâm sorry, zane! i didnât think about how that could really hurt you, are you okay?â
he stares at the asteroid, impressed, âthat was⌠astonishing. when did you realize you could bring matter and energy from space into fights?â taking his attention off of the ice covered asteroid as it slowly melts to look at you. you reply, âoh, iâm not sure, actually. i just once opened a portal to space after studying how to, then at first, i made a star small somehow. like, really small, maybe a bit bigger than my fist, then i sort of threw it at a training dummy, not with my bare hands, but with magic, you know!â you got nervous and began to rant.
âhave you ever thrown someone into the portal? have you gone into space yourself?â he asks, tilting his head as he is highly interested to know about your journeys and experiences. you immediately nod, âyes to both of your questions! iâve thrown people into space portals, some people have tripped into them.. but i sort of make sure theyâre safe-ish before they go in! so a few minutes later, i can bring them back! itâs cool, they get all scared and stuff and most of the time donât bother me again. and iâve gone into space a lot, probably around once a week or so, iâve explored planets, many of them! i can survive without a suit, too. it might be in my genes or something⌠i donât know, itâs a bit weird⌠but i enjoy it!â
he nods, taking in all the information as he wants to know more, âi am guessing you are able to use more than asteroids, stars and dark matter in fights. is that correct? have you used other⌠assets from space besides those three?â
you beam, excited to talk about your speciality, both of you have forgotten about your training as you continue to talk about space, âi accidentally got an enemy too close to a supernova, and those are really hot so⌠it didnât end up well for them. ooh! and about dark matter, thatâs the thing i almost hit you with, i didnât quite understand what it could do. so i hit a group of enemies with it, they kinda became like pancakes⌠its like they melted, flipped onto the ground. but its not supposed to be hot, its cold for some reason. thatâs just what iâve learned, and that its supposed to be invisible! but mine is purple for some reason, so maybe its something else?â
he thinks for a moment, only coming up with one logical explanation to your question, âall of us have colors that go with our powers, wind is the only one that makes sense to not have a color. purple and black are commonly associated with space, and cole is already associated with earth, black is his color. i suppose that is why your powers are purple. if i am wrong, i do not know what the reason for the color of your powers is.
you nod, the conversation continues as you and zane ask questions, the other attempting to answer each time. most of it is related to space, changing to the nindroid powers every couple minutes.
whenever you start talking about space, he comes up with more questions because he genuinely wants to know more about space and he loves hearing you talk
also learns more about space during his spare time so you can have detailed conversations
searches everywhere in his database to see all the asteroids or comets that might pass by ninjago one day, in hopes that the two of you can see it together someday
knows as much as you do about space besides the things that havenât been confirmed by scientists, instead confirmed by you because youâve seen a lot
âaccording to my database, a comet will pass by on the fifth. would you like to go to a secluded area with me so we could see it together?â
âoh my gosh, i heard about that too! we should go, i heard multiple of them will pass by!â
tells you a few more facts that you donât know about space, sometimes going on long rants but it becomes interactive over time
(+some general)
MASTERLIST
Doesnât crush often but when he does, he crushes hard
Hot take- we would not choose a study date as a first date
^ I see him as the kinda guy who dates with a long term goal in mind and would want to get to know someone well off the bat
^ Bro is not messing around- he would want a first date where the two of you talk a lot and he can get to know you before committing
^I think his ideal first date would be a movie then a cafe/restaurant. Movie first so thereâs a couple hours to ease the awkward first date tension and then coffee/food to talk about the movie and eventually branch the conversation out
He sends those cryptic texts like âbe alertâŚâ when there was mugging in town or something
Tags you in every post he sees. Youâll wake up and check social media to thirty messages in your inbox and theyâre all from Kyle
The kinda guy to be like âDid you look at the post I sent you about the guy at the bus stop?â
Got his account banned on Twitter and went absolutely ballistic while you tried to calm him down
Runs Hay Day like itâs the navy
Definitely the type to be hooked on his phone until it dies and then complain that youâre on yours âBro, letâs just talk about the political and economic state of the world right nowâŚâ
This might be another hot take but I donât think he would want a childish partner, he want to be your boyfriend not your dad
^Having to zip up your coat, tie your shoelaces, or cut your food- I donât think he would mind doing it a couple times but repeating offences would irritate him
Not big on pet names
^ I think he would be one to call you âbroâ âmanâ and âdudeâ a lot just out of habit but would probably just call you an abbreviation of your name if anything
^ perhaps babe on very rare occasion
HATES PDA
^ I fear I may have many hot takes in this post
^He would be pretty touchy in private but in public? Hell no
^ talks shit about couples who canât keep their hands off each other in public and absentmindedly wrinkles his nose in disgust
^ the only PDA he would accept is hand holding or a quick hug
Calls and FaceTimes you out of the blue but will immediately hang up if youâre busy or with other people and call back later
He is either the most sound sleeper ever or he wakes up at the drop a pin- either way, he always ends up slinging his lanky arms around you
Heâs weirdly good with hair and would have no problem braiding yours or styling it
Super supportive aspiration wise
^ sports games? Heâs the loudest in the crowd. Theatre? Heâs on the edge of his seat watching. Art? Heâs looking at your creations like theyâre in a museum.
If you have bad habits (smoking, drinking, etc.) he would try to ease you out of them but if that fails it would definitely cause conflict in the relationship
Has his moments where he snaps at you
Fights wouldnât be often but they would be big
He would enjoy playful banter and someone who challenges him to improve
I think he would enjoy a lot of the lower beats of the relationship like staying in to watch movies, cooking together, walking and talking, silently enjoying each others company, etc.
He posts Instagram carrousels and every single one has a picture of you in it
Doesnât even entertain people who try to flirt with him âNo, thanks.â âIâm dating someone.â âIâm good.â
Shows you Reddit posts and complains about how obviously fake they are
Gets irritated by bad acting in movies âHe called her Courtney Dove, fucking idiot.â âWhy does she chew like that?â âHer accent sounds fake.â
Has a secret TikTok account and doesnât know that you watch his videos on a fake account
He is well aware of rage bait but it still makes him mad because so many people fall for it so heâll end up commenting anyways
Easily jealous
^ if he sees you talking to another guy he doesnât trust heâll insert himself into the conversation and pretend he knows whatâs going on
Checks up on you a lot
^ He just has to know that you're okay, he has to be sure that you're safe and that if something were to happen, you would call him without thinking twice.
He wants to communicate but heâs lowkey really bad at it and canât get in an argument with you without yelling
I imagine him as a runner
^ heâll probably run to your house at ungodly hours, drink some water, give you a kiss, and keep running
^also lovvvves to show you his stats
Heâs really good at cooking and always takes control when you two are cooking/baking together
Didnât want to dress up on Halloween but you ultimately coerced him into doing a corny couples costume
Has a longer skincare routine than you do
Heâs one of those guys to pretend to hate the reality shows and soap operas that you watch- heâll peak from his phone, then stand from behind the couch and then heâs fully invested in the plot
CHAPTER FOUR WAS SO GOOD UGHH literally the only fanfic I have ever loved so much and wait for updates like this. Am so excited for the next one!!!
On the topic of finally opening requests, I was wondering if I could ask for head-canons of what a relationship with Seishiro and a female reader would be like. If we want to be specific, maybe related to the fanfic? Like, how you would imagine their relationship would have been like back when they were still in high school, young and with Nagiâs past soccer career and all. Donât feel pressured to write this, and good luck with everything!đ˝đ˝
ââ DATING NAGI!
Synopsis: Headcanons about having Seishiro Nagi as your boyfriend.
Event Masterlist
Pairing: Nagi x Reader
Word Count: 0.9k
Content Warnings: none really, just generally fluffy and silly
A/N: AHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH ANON i hope you like where i go w the story in the future!! and hehe now that weâre in the past arc of peregrine you will actually get to see all of the nitty gritty details of their relationship in the fic itself so i wonât spoil it 𤍠but i love nagi ofc so iâve added some general headcanons on what i think he would be like as a bf
Additional: part of my 500 follower event! see the event description and rules to make a request of your own.
no matter how the two of you get together, reo is somehow involved LMAOAOAO like bro is ALWAYS at the scene of the crime in some way shape or form just because i donât think nagi would really pick up on the fact that he has a crush on you without outside intervention
it would also definitely be a jump scare when he confesses!! you would have zero idea itâs coming because he literally hasnât changed how he acts towards you whatsoever
canonically he doesnât really interact with a lot of people or have a lot of friends and heâs not aggressive with romance so i just donât think heâd really know what the appropriate method of telling someone you like them is
would probably say some shit like âreo says i have a crush on youâ and would be so nonchalant about it meanwhile youâre like â???â because you did not even realize he knew your name and also why is reo being brought up
i honestly think he would not be a bad boyfriend. yes he is lazy and unmotivated but he does what he needs to do and if something is important to him he generally puts in effort for it
thatâs another reason why it would take him foreverrr to ask you out â he would have to like you enough that he realizes he does in fact want to have a relationship with you even if it is a hassle
he doesnât have social media though so donât expect there to be an official announcement that you guys are together or anything like that HAHA
he would probably forget to tell anyone that the two of you are dating and itâs not because heâs ashamed of you or is trying to hide you or anything he literally just does not care what other people think and would prefer not to talk them if possible so it never comes up
youâll show up to an event with him and everyoneâs like âomg nagi who is thisâ and heâs like âthis is my girlfriendâ and someone (probably otoya tbh) is like âsince when have you had a girlfriendâ and heâs like âitâs been two years đâ
i think he would be fire at insulting people just because of how many video games he playsâŚthat man has seen some of the worst sides of humanity
the world is lucky heâs a pacifist and avoids conflict because he has some vile stuff stored away (i will never be over him asking barou if he practiced kneeling because heâs about to make him his servant)
this particular quality makes him the BEST person to talk shit with
heâs not a gossipy boyfriend in the sense that he doesnât have anything juicy of his own to contribute to the conversation but iâm pretty sure he mentioned he watches dramas at one point so you know heâs locked tf in if you need to complain abt someone
he will sit there and be so invested in the teaâŚdef would not give any useful advice but he will make fun of anyone bothering you so you still end up feeling better
i donât think he would get jealous honestly
the thought of you cheating on him doesnât cross his mind at all because why would he date someone he didnât trust fully???
i would say he expects the same from you because he would but at the same time he voluntarily talks to one (1) other person besides you and thatâs reo so the opportunity for you to be jealous just wouldnât even crop up
definitely super clingy and cuddly
loves being babied too
according to epnagi he has this whole automatic system in his apartment to clean and do laundry and i think heâd be fine if you appropriate that so no more cleaning!! but you will have to cook because that man literally only eats fruit jellies
genuinely how is he so built and not dying of malnutrition SKJFDSHKJ
he probably is terrible at coming up with date ideas so itâs up to you to plan things
again itâs not malicious i think for him just spending time with you is his ideal date!! like he doesnât see the point in getting dressed up and going somewhere fancy when you could just eat at home and be comfortable together
but if itâs an important day or you tell him that you want him to suggest something for once, he WILL go all out (which means calling reo for advice and doing what he tells him to)
overall communication is key with him. heâs not particularly sensitive or in tune with other peopleâs emotions so being passive aggressive or expecting him to read your mind will honestly just end up making your mood worse because he will not pick up on the fact that something is wrong
but if you tell him what you want him to change he will happily do it!! he just needs to be told very clearly if youâre upset or need him to do something different
honestly it would be very refreshing. there are zero games with nagi and he doesnât really try to hide anything â what you see is what you get 100% of the time
overall 10/10 would date idc haters dni heâs a sweetheart and heâs doing his best
