not to be all “old man yells at cloud” but why is the internet suddenly allergic to simple tutorials? why is everything an 11 minute long video where the person talks for unrelated nonsense for the first 3 minutes? why is every written tutorial inundated with ads and other useless info you have to scroll through in order to get to what you need? what happened to a quick step by step guide with maybe a few pictures for reference?

i think that while micro labels can seem useful and affirming ultimately they're isolating and kind of an obstacle to your understanding of self. that's because you can never find a word specific enough. there will never be a label or two labels or even ten, twenty of them to perfectly capture and describe all of your thoughts, feelings, experiences, preferences, needs, interests, identities, etc. because you learn more and more about yourself every day and then you change and your wants and needs change with you. having to hop between labels, fearing that you don't 'fit' into a label anymore (both in your own and others eyes), worrying how soon your current label will wear out, questioning if you'll ever fully fit a single one. all that causes a lot of uncertainty and anxiety which could be avoided by just picking a more general thing and molding it according to what it means to YOU. because words will always mean different things to different people, you will never be understood immediately and maybe never completely by anyone but yourself and that's fine
#another thing is that micro labels often feel like they fracture the community unnecessarily#idk how many times i've seen fighting over hyperspecific ace labels and what they mean and if people described in them even belong#and honestly i think this discourse wouldn't be so vile and neverending if people accepted the idea of falling under general umbrella#and accepted that you can't describe complicated weird and wonderful act of human existence with a couple of words#you don't need to explain yourself to anyone#i know in our present pronouns/sexuality/gender in bio carrd era it feels like you have to but you really don't#people aren't entitled to a short summary of your inner world and you can't speed run connection#also feel the need to say: i have nothing against people who use micro labels#if you feel like your micro label describes you perfectly? i'm really glad and happy for you#i'm just expressing my own thoughts and feelings that come from personal experience with exploring these things#at some point i started doubting if i could call myself a lesbian#i thought oh i'm not exactly what a lot of people generally think of when they hear that word#oh they'll misunderstand and i'm not being my 'true self' i'll find a word that fits me exactly if i just keep looking#and then i found out being aroace is a thing and boy did that add a lot of anxiety and confusion to the pot#i didn't feel like i fit in with both communities wasn't lesbian enough wasn't aroace enough#but at some point i just got tired of trying to justify myself to others and to myself#identities aren't houses you live in they're more like seas or rivers flowing into one another#and spaces where they intersect are vague and hard to define and they shift and change and this metaphor is getting away from me#basically#words are complicated#but they're the only direct way we humans can communicate#it is what it is#so make art#a lot of it#oh also unrelated but if you ever tell older queer folks that they're using wrong words to describe themselves i am going to jump you

For my fellow MADDers (or anyone, really), how do you picture your daydreams? This has always interested me, like that question of whether or not someone has an internal narrative (I do not).

I'm usually a combo of A and C in my maladaptive spaces and B in regular dreams. I write from a combination of all three.

Say: what do you think about the theory of Quern Marika being the true mastermind behind the Night of the Black Knives?
Not a fan of the idea that Marika was involved in the Night of the Black Knives, and I especially don’t like the idea that Marika was the true mastermind. I think it’s just factually untrue and a misunderstanding of the purpose behind the NotBK.
Without a doubt, Ranni is the one who planned the NotBK, because the purpose of the plot was specifically so Ranni could shed her empyrean flesh and be free from the Two Fingers’ influence. The entire plot revolves around the ritual sacrifices of Ranni and Godwyn: using the knives imbued with destined death, the mirrored cursemarks were carved into each of their backs in a coordinated manner, so that Godwyn would die in soul alone and Ranni would die in body alone. This ritual is explicitly to Ranni’s benefit and to the Golden Order’s detriment. Ranni being free of her empyrean flesh means that she is now capable of moving ahead with her plans to replace the Golden Order with her Age of the Stars. Why would Marika go out of her way to enable someone else’s agenda? What does she gain from Godwyn’s and the other demigods’ deaths? It doesn’t make sense for Marika to go to all this trouble on Ranni’s behalf, while simultaneously hurting her own dynasty, when the only thing in it for her (as far as we know) is the vague idea of “getting back at the Greater Will.” Furthermore, I doubt if Marika approached Ranni with a scheme, Ranni would even entertain the idea. Ranni has every reason to hate and distrust Marika, given Marika’s fraught history with the Carian royals— why should she ever trust Marika’s plans, when Marika has been the #1 cause of her family’s misery?
On the other hand, I think the idea that Marika was simply involved in the NotBK is more plausible, but still unlikely. Again, I find it hard to conceive of a scenario where Ranni would willingly approach Marika to ask for her help. But it’s definitely possible that there have been interactions and intrigue between Ranni and Marika that we just aren’t aware of, and would provide a compelling reason for Ranni to reach out to her.

I've been contemplating the last few days doing a complete overhaul of my muse, but ultimately have decided against it for a multitude of reasons -- and one of them is this headcanon.
My Elwin is an incredibly flawed man. He makes mistakes. In fact, he fucks up -- a lot. He fucks up as a father, and as a husband, and as a ruler. He even fucks up as a friend.
I know the game itself has this weird tendency to sort of almost paint him as this altruistic paragon of virtue by the way that the people of Rosaria talk about him, but not only is their opinion of him understandably biased, it's also not something I see as being the case at all, even canonically.
The approach I always try to take with my muse is that he tries to be these things. He tries to be selfless; he will give everything for his people. He will do anything for his people. He will sacrifice anything for his people, including the safety and immediate well-being of his own ill child; he sacrifices his relationships with his family, especially his sons, and he sets himself on fire again and again for the good of his people.
But this is not selflessness, in my opinion. This is selfishness while trying to be selfless. These sacrifices that he chooses to make for the good of his people do not just impact him, they negatively impact other people like his family as well. They don't just mean that he's giving up the bond he could have with his children, they also mean that he's robbing his boys of their father. It's things like that, if that makes sense?
He chooses to, overall, disregard the fact that he and Anabella do not agree on so many significant matters, and that the High Houses are very much against him and his agenda. He chooses to stand against them and push onward, because he believes it is right, and he believes it is just, and that it is for the greater good of everyone, including his family. But what he doesn't take into account is the fact that these choices, these decisions do not just impact him, again; they impact everyone around him as well, everyone that is close to him, including his own family.
He convinces himself that the choices he makes, the sacrifices he makes, the awful things he does, the blood that he spills -- all of these things are what needs to be done for the sake of his people. And this is not true. This is just a way for him to assuage some of the guilt he feels for making decisions that he doesn't want to make, yet goes ahead and does anyway, because in his eyes it's what's best for his people.
My favorite example of this is the situation with the Northern Territories, and his choice to bring Jill to Rosaria.
It's always, always what he believes is best for his people. Key word there is "believes". Just because you believe something is justified or "right" does not mean that it is justified or "right"; it doesn't work that way, nor do good intentions automatically mean that the outcome will be good or positive. You can have all of the best intentions in the world, but in the face of cause and effect and of consequences to one's actions, intentions mean absolutely nothing.
I could go on and on about my thoughts and views of this man, and how I strive to portray him, and the complexities of what he chooses to do and how he thinks, and how they translate into and impact his family and his people, but I'll sum it all up with this:
He's human. He is flawed. He is imperfect on all levels. He does good things, he does bad things. He can be kindhearted and compassionate and gentle and happy, and he can be ruthless and cruel and angry and emotional. He can be loving and devoted, and he can be narrow-minded and selfish. He's more than just this positive force of good and benevolence -- he is human, and he is messy and complex, and contradictory, and he is morally grey.
