made the mistake of briefly considering reed/hestio, and then thinking about how hestio might react to learning that the mass murderer in front of him was once his extremely kind and upright friend who always gave too much of himself to others. i got socked in the gut by the throwback to my own grief when discovering that reed=tesilid.

like. what and how much has he gone through that he has thrown away the morals and self-sacrifice he internalised so much. what do you mean he killed his younger self in the most cruel and painful way he could think of. what do you mean that even he himself was not kind to himself. that, even after a hundred lifetimes, he still hasn't learned the slightest shred of self-love and is acting only in self-preservation. what do you mean that he has been running on fumes and desperation for several lifetimes? he probably hasn't had the time to even grieve and cry for himself. has there been anyone who could even do so for him? what do you mean he's tried every means possible to save the world, and then just himself, and then had no choice but to try to kill himself, but even that didn't work so now he's forced to try to kill everyone else too. what do you mean that this isn't just an issue of mental health and of convincing him that life is worth living? there is genuinely no conceivable path forward for him. maybe the world should just burn or something idk.

its coming alright. Looking at probably ten thousand words of weird in-universe (but not in-universe if you follow) eva taxonomy because... I dunno, I like taxonomy?

To be serious for a moment, that's what this is. I know there's been a lot of writing about why nerds like taxonomy - that to name is to control, to exercise authority, to assert a claim to status or flatten a world into easily knowable and divisible categories etc - but fundamentally, I just like naming things and pretending to be a taxonomist. It's pattern recognition and wordplay paired together into a sort of byzantine protocol of play that takes something extremely serious and asserts a claim to take the tools and language of that thing and use them for frivolities.

It's also not wrong that to name is to hold power, but this I think is actually a fundamentally human thing. Humans name things - we have segments of our brains dedicated to doing so and to remembering our internal taxonomy as how we see the world. We look at the world and assemble these patterns and give them names that, in turn, give us joy to think about if we let them. There's an organizing logos in the human brain and, dare I say it, soul that enjoys this. So... Why not just... do it?

In that sense, I want my taxonomies to be the opposite of gatekeeping. I don't want people to look at how I've decided that Sachiel is L. monohastatus and go 'okay, I guess dddrd knows best'. I want them to laugh and then go 'yeah but why isn't energy projection more important than adamiformism?' and have fun drafting some elaborate reply in High Academic Camp or in some spectacular Borgesian mode or even from a Japanese perspective of toku show monsters. Like the bread tag folks - there's something kind of beautiful about that whole thing, where some proper geeks are having a kind of fun that speaks deeply to them because it scratches that internal taxonomizing itch and lets them play and its all because they saw a piece of plastic with a shape.

I don't know that much of the writing on Nerds and Taxonomy has looked at it from this angle - but then, so much nerd taxonomy isn't about play, but about those urges to name as control and derive The One Right Position. But maybe it should return to being about play instead, like speculative biology is - like giving the animals in my garden silly taxa because it makes me laugh to assign the niche taxa of 'dingus reptilius friendus' to the blue tongue lizard that keeps eating my mandarins. If human nature sees the world and starts sorting into categories, I wanna have fun with it. the world's hard enough without abandoning the inner monkey brain that likes sorting things.

For me it was a nezha edit (it was a leak at the time, but obviously I didn't know it) and I loved its design so much that I decided to see lmk, previously I knew that the series existed since I really like everything that has to do with Sun Wukong (and the journey to the west and Nezha too of course)

my love of lmk was a slow burn that then sparked into an inferno

it began while i was watching OSP’s jttw summarized videos and listening to their podcast and there were some people asking Red if she watches the show (she hadn’t and prob still has not because her reason was by simply not watching it, she wouldn’t accidentally have their style influence her own. also ensuring that her summarized videos stayed original)

then i noticed some fanart of lmk on instagram (idk how that happened tbh maybe the algorithm took my interest in fanrtists of animated movies and shows to equal “hey you might like this too!”) but since i had no clue what lmk really was and was more loyal to jttw itself, i ignored it (tho one of the fanartists drew really good kung fu panda fanart so i saw lmk for about a month or too before i deleted my instagram)

and then i saw a lot of lmk in the comments of OSP’s video about the Six Eared Macaque chapter but ignored it still

and then tumblr polls happened

many polls were made. many ship dynamic polls were made

there was also the character of all time poll, of which i was a Sun Wukong activist and found some lmk fans who reblogged my propaganda thread

(during this time— April— I discovered Epic: the musical)

i found lmk once more in the sun/moon ship poll. it was merthur vs shadowpeach and i stayed true to my ship, Merthur, but i noticed one of my (then) mutual-in laws was very passionate about shadowpeach and i grew curious

i searched it up (beginning of May), somehow found a playlist with seasons 1-3 two days after i began my search, watched all of it in a day (it should be noted that i had been recovering from finals) and found myself hooked

I also felt cheated out of the shadowpeach ship because, through the eyes of my (then) mutual-in law, the ship seemed to be popular on tumblr. then all the shit i see on YouTube is spicynoodles and people arguing in the comments that shadowpeach are brothers

i found out very quickly that the show did scratch a special itch in my brain (it almost didn’t if i’m being honest. i was almost put off by MK and Mei’s personalities at first but figured i would wait if our since AHiB is only the show’s pilot) and now i wanted more

i went onto twitter bc i struggled to find fanart on tumblr

i realized there was a 4th season already out (also weird discord drama???? idk i only was there for the art) AND some nice metas to dip my toes in

i leave twitter and go to yt to find the 4th season (and also bc there was a whole thing on twt about new accounts getting called out for being “pro-shippers” so i decided to tap out) and then found out about Monkey King 2009 (which i watched to stave off the desire of s4 but this backfired bc i got obsessed with that one too and only 12 episodes are subtitled for it— edit: NOT ANYMORE!!!!)

AND THEN I FIND SEASON 4

i watch it all and realize i have to wait for the s4 special, but i am more prepared for it (and now i feel more comfortable interacting with lmk tumblr) which leads to me making my own metas (this was spurred by my desire for more swk metas)

and thus i found and curated my lmk fandom experience on tumblr and satiated my brain with metas and fics and art until s4 special and then rinse and repeat until s5 :D

Which English dub voice actors do you prefer for Cloud, Sephiroth and Zack?

I like Cody Christian as Cloud. It's just the right mix of quiet yet firm. Considerably softer than Steve Burtons voice for him, which has a gravelly? sound to it, but I still really like his voice, too. Sounds like how Cloud would sound if he were older than early to mid-20s. Another small quirk i like about Steves voice for Cloud is how sometimes it sounds like hes taking awkward little milisecond pauses to read the script and then continue talking. I think it's endearing to Cloud's already slightly awkward character.

But I will say, every day I die a little remembering that they didn't give Cloud a slight country accent. save me country boy Cloud, save me

Onto Zack, I prefer Rick Gomez for him.

I forgot the name of Zacks current VA, but the pitch of his voice is too high for my liking. Rick Gomez sounds more natural to me. And that little bit of edge to it makes me happy. Like, his voice sounds like the kind of voice you'd hear a bully character have even though he's an absolute sweetheart, and I like that. If I had to choose, I'd have Zacks current VA as his voice when he's a teenager, but then bring in Rick to voice him as an adult.

And as for Sephiroth, I am so critically obsessed with George Newberns voice for him. It's actual peak. It's the deepest and roughest Sephiroth voice and the slight slip ups of George's Arkansas accent coming through on occassion, making Sephiroth say "pruh-vyde" instead of "provide", scratches this nasty little itch in my feral monkey brain. So dominating, too, like damn.

The amount of money I would pay him to make Sephiroth say something absolutely unhinged shall not be disclosed.

Both Cloud and Sephiroth I like elements from both they old and new voice actor. So I can't really say which I prefer over the other - I'm happy with either of them.

Zack on the other hand I have a strong preference for his old voice actor. I completely agree that his new one just sounds too young. Maybe as his voice actor for Crisis Core (before the time-skip) but in the main game it just doesn't work for him at all. I often wouldn't recognise that it was Zack talking because I so didn't connect the voice with him.

In fact, I am actually losing my sanity, tweaking, glitching into the floors and the walls like a rabid, broken, and disconnected character of a video game you find off of a random deep end website.

My current mood is deranged simpery hours where I spasm and run around my bedroom like a deranged insane monkey. The way you write scratches such an itch in my brain, I am absolutely mesmerized at the way you piece your words together into something of poetry, the way the scenes smoothly fade into one another, and the way you characterize Aventurine and Reader's dynamic is chefs kiss

I love how within Voracity's tales, you are able to convey that reader is someone who is actually dangerous, they can and will if they have to and I have so much respect for that. And the way you can infer that the Reader is such a well-written multi faceted character by simply reading a singular post that involves them even without the context has me in a literal chokehold

Perhaps it's just my preference and enjoyment in reading stories where the reader is rather dominant and/or powerful but your way of expression through the medium of text is something I find so absolutely beautiful that I can't help but admire and gush over it

On another note: Don't forget to take care of yourself. I'll be looking forward to any content you decide to create 🫶
