So pack dynamics when pups are added does change things a bit. Everyone in the pack sort of feels a responsibility to care for and protect the pups, regardless of if they're the parents or not. Obviously the parents of the pups feel the biggest responsibility, and they're going to be doing most of the nurturing, but other members of the pack do help as well. It's sort of a community effort, especially in large packs where there's likely to be many, many pups to look after.

Pups will recognize their parents by scent, and they know which members of the pack are their parents from very early on. The other members of the pack it's sort of like an aunt/uncle situation is the best way I could describe it. Like, pups know those aren't their parents but they're very trusting of the rest of their pack, and will go to them if the parents aren't available. It's been known, especially in really large packs, for omegas to co-parent. Most of the child care falls on omegas, as that's sort of their purpose in a pack traditionally, and if, say something happens to one omega, the other omegas will step in without question. It's also been known for omegas to adopt orphaned or abandoned pups without even a thought.

So, using your example, if Ghost and the reader had a pup together, then the pup would recognize Ghost and the reader as their parents. There would be no question there, but the others would also be involved in the pup's life and the pup would know to trust them and that they're safe people in times of stress or trouble or danger. The same would go if the reader had pups with any of the others as well.

Okay so not an ask more of a Headcanon based on observation and the character he is based on, but I see Honest Fellow as someone who would both idolize/emulate and resent the rich. By his design his clothes, while they pay homage to Honest John with the patchwork pantleg and the misding pinky tip on his one glove seem very well-kempt, on top of that his hat and cane are practically emaculate that cane alone couldn't have been cheap though I wouldn't put it passed the sly fox man to have either swindled someone out of it or stole it from them outright. Point is I'm getting wants to be a rich man but hates the rich people vibes.

All of that is set-up for my headcanon that if he ever had a S/O you can bet he would get them jewelry and expensive clothes. Basically just adorn them in finery he had acquired through whatever means (cough, likely stolen or purchased with dirty money, cough) and proudly have them stand by his side. The thought to use them as a pretty little lure to catch even bigger fish might cross his mind, but I doubt he'd ever use them like that. at what age did your character start using social media? Growing up, Cage wasn't super into social media. If anything, he got it to stay in touch with family and friends after high school when he hit the road.

did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? No. He doubts that his dad even checked his social media, unless one of his siblings ratted him out.

has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? Nope, thought never crossed his mind.

no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? He remembers MySpace, but he didn't really use it. He had an account and set it up and sometimes he'd check in, but... to use it? Not regularly, no.

who would be in their top eight today? Cordelia, Colton, Kellan, Elliot, Ashley, Lucie, Elise, Chase.

what social media platforms do they use today? Instagram and Facebook.

how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? Not a whole lot of time, he'll browse casually in the morning, during a lunch break, probably at night on and off.

is there one platform that they visit more than others? Instagram.

if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? It terrifies the hell out of him, but Colton has an Instagram and Facebook account. There are very strict rules, though -- Cage has to be able to follow him on all accounts, and he is allowed to ask him to look at his messages at any point in time to make sure that he isn't doing something he shouldn't be. (He's never had to.)

be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? No, he can barely keep up with the ones he has.

do they run any professional or business accounts? Technically. Creekside has an Instagram and Facebook page for business. Cage and one of his workers has access to it, so he helps run it when he remembers to.

He's left a lot of social media platforms, since normally he has FOMO and tries them and then remembers that he's not big on social media... and leaves. He did delete X recently, though, when he felt Elon tanked it.

have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? He wouldn't necessarily say that he has made long-lasting friendships, but he has sustained friendships through social media. He's still friends with guys that he worked with years and years ago, when he first started out in construction.

or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? This is primarily the reason why Cage doesn't get involved, he doesn't want there to be beef. He's argued with people about politics on Facebook, though.

have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? Not really, no.

who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? Willie Nelson.

would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? Somewhere in the middle. It's hard to deny that social media has done some really great things for the world, but he wonders if they would have found a way to do those things without it, too, and does miss when things were simpler.

United - BNHA Hogwarts AU (first fic I started posting on AO3...kinda surprised because I haven't touched this one in almost a year...I just really lost a lot of my motivation to work on anything related to HP, however loosely it may be...though I guess this might have the most simply because it's my oldest) The Ones You Lose are the Ones I See - BNHA au where Izuku has a quirk that allows him to see ghosts (again; surprised...I haven't had much time/energy/motivation to work on this one either) Lost - Haikyuu!! mer au; Shouyou gets lost from his pod and has to find his way back home. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I do! I love interacting with people who enjoyed my writing, and I like to discuss my ideas, so it's a win-win when I get a lovely comment and then get to discuss the fic in more depth with someone!

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmmm, probably Unforgiving Winter (as listed above). I think that's the one I've gotten the most comments about breaking people's hearts on. That being said, angst is subjective and I've got more than a few angsty fics (my friends know I was an edgelord child at heart even if I wasn't allowed to show it and I have only gotten worse with my angsty bullshit hahaha)

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Not 100% sure. Probably Three Orange Hearts (Haikyuu UshiHina Youtuber AU)? I think that was one of my happiest fics and it has a pretty fluffy and happy ending for me. But, to be honest maybe someone has a different opinion. I started writing more fluffy/happy fics because of @kimium. (she challenged me to do so and I love her for constantly helping me grow in my writing)

Do you get hate on fic? I wouldn't classify it as hate, but once in a while I will get a comment that is worded rudely or sounds like they're criticizing how I've written characters. Usually for those I either ask for clarification because I may have misread the tone or explain what thoughts go into why the character is acting that way. I mean, when it comes to critique on how I've written the characters...the bottom line is I write them the way that makes sense to me and makes me happy, so I always will say if someone doesn't like the way I've done it they can always write the idea their way and have fun with it. Most times this clears up any misunderstandings and I feel like it encourages communication and learning. I don't like to feel like I've lashed out at someone, it makes me feel bad.

Do you write smut? Yes :D and unless you're one of my trusted adult friends who ask me where it is, you will never find out where I post it. Mwaahahahahaha

Do you write crossovers? Yup! The Glorious Bar AU is a giant crossover of all the fandoms @kimium and I decide to mash together! And I am currently working on my first AO3 contribution to our Sort of Saw Franchise AU for Twisted Wonderland. I hope to post it soon! What's a wip you want to finish but probably won't? I hate to label anything as "never going to finish" because I honestly always have plans to finish a story. I don't know if I have the heart to say I probably won't finish one. I do have a lot that I have taken a long break from though.

What are your writing strengths? I've had people tell me they really love how I write characters in fics, and that they enjoy my worldbuilding in AUs; I like to think those are my strengths.

What are your writing weaknesses? Scenery and describing it. I almost always have to go back and tweak things a little to make sure I didn't forget to include enough of the setting; but I am getting better at it.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I would not feel confident enough to do most languages as full conversations (maybe a little German? though the Duolingo Owl probably feels otherwise based on how long it's been since my last lesson...) but I could probably manage a few phrases if a characters says something in another language in canon (like Rook Hunt).

First fandom you wrote for? Ever? Ever ever? I wrote a few chapters of a One Direction fanfic when I was 15 and it will never see the light of day again. I deleted it...lol. It wasn't posted on AO3, since I wasn't on the archive at that time.

Favourite fic you've written? I don't choose favourites among my children... (Right now it's A Different Kind of Magic; a multichapter Kalim/Idia fanfic set in an AU where Idia has to teach Kalim and Jamil to master their magic before it consumes them)

Marlon would honestly be a bit pissed about MC confessing before he did - which is pretty ironic considering that he probably wouldn't plan on confessing unless prompted. He would make a scene of accepting the MC's confession all while trying to cover up how flustered he actually is.

Isla would be thrilled if MC confessed to her. Despite the dozens of confessions she has gotten over the years, none had managed to make her feel the same warmth as this one. She would probably end up pulling MC into an warm embrace out of pure excitement.

Cyrus would be touched if he got a confession from MC. He probably wouldn’t have any huge reaction and would just give confirmation that he feels the same. Although, since MC was the one to confess, he would go out of his way to set up the first date.

Naomi would pass out - or at least she would feel like she might. Her face would heat up and she would stumble over her words as she tries to convey her own feelings. Give her 3-5 business days and her brain will start working again. Probably.

Kieran would only be able to stare at MC in shock. Similar to Naomi they would struggle to express their own feelings but it would be a much more internal struggle. Honestly, it would probably look like they have completely shut down. Give them some time to reboot.

Surprisingly absolutely nobody, Marlon is extremely petty. There are very few lengths Marlon wouldn’t go just to get back at someone.

Isla is also pretty petty, but in a more passive aggressive and subtle way. She’s the type that manages to be petty while also making it seem like you’re the asshole.

Cyrus isn’t really petty. If someone really pisses him off, he might pull a small prank or make a few snarky remarks but he mostly just tends to laugh things off.

Naomi also isn’t very petty. If she is upset with someone, she’ll probably just sulk and hide instead of trying to get back at them.

Kieran isn’t petty at all. They have better things to do with their time than waste time trying to get back at people.

You decided to text him since you were at home and bored and knew he was on lunch (your school had a day off while his didn't). Which is kinda bad considering all his friends the extras at his table started asking questions and teasing him.

"Oooo who is it?" Mina asked, already leaning over the table, trying to catch a glimpse at the contact.

Kaminari, of course, jokingly adds that it might be his secret lover. Relationships are the go-to for poking fun at your friends after all...

However, with the way their blond bestie retaliated, cursing just a little louder, cheeks dusted the faintest of pink, it leads the rest of the Baku-Squad to believe that Denki hit the nail on the head (for once).

So, of course, that breeds into even more teasing and pestering. At one point, while they all were hanging out in one of their rooms and the topic came up again, Bakugou spouted "you wouldn't even know them dumbass, they don't even go here!"

Yeah that didn't help in getting them off his back...

It gets to the point where, by the end of the day, the idiots have gotten on his nerves so much he finally admits who it was.

Which... didn't help in lowering the level of teasing he received either...

But! That doesn't mean they're all not shocked that Bakugou landed a s/o before them (Mina and Kaminari made sure he knew they were flabbergasted about it with their yelling).

Still, they're happy he found someone to love and be loved by. Now all they have to do it meet the lucky individual.

Relationship wise Bakugou is the kind of boyfriend to send quick texts reminding you to eat or stay hydrated when he's got a moment. He may also (if you're lucky) send good morning/night texts with his own personal touch. ('night dumbass, love you or whatever' something like that?? you all know what I mean)

Is reluctant to bring you to the dorms since he doesn't want the others to scare you or make you feel uncomfortable in anyway. He knows that some of them can be a handful at times (he knows all too well). Of course, if you even suspect that that's the issue and try to bring it up he'll vehemently deny it all (but after plenty of reassurance - that he says he doesn't need - he'll eventually cave and introduce you)

The whole class loves you btw. They see how their prickly classmate looks and acts around you.

Doesn't show it but is very conscious about his sweaty palms. You won't know about it (unless you can read him like a book) but Baku is keenly aware of how much sweat he's got on his hand and is focused part of his attention on it to make sure he doesn't accidently let off an explosion.

Unfortunately, since you go to another school you don't get to see him as often as you would if you went to UA. Dates are sort of far apart with how much he dedicates to training and schoolwork. But if you're in a relationship then you probably already knew and understand this.

If you posses a potential combat quirk dates can consist of you two sparring and giving pointers! If you don't then you can still help with training if you'd like (throwing objects at him for him to blow up, things like that).

Depending on your character Bakugou might not talk about what goes on at UA (the attacks that aren't reported on the news or ones you didn't hear of for example). He just doesn't want you to work yourself up with worry over him.

When in private Bakugou is definitely one to sling his arm over you while you cuddle up to his chest

Strikes me as the kind of guy that gives you cheek kisses. Like, nice but forceful cheek kisses, the kind that moves your head back a little just from how much force he puts into it.

Very perspective so he's very in-tune with how you may be feeling and does his best to make you feel better (it just may not seem like it at first)

You are getting worried over a lot of incorrect information. First, you are not married, you can file your own taxes and he can still claim you as dependent, but you will not be taxed at his rate. Second, you don't even have to file unless you make $12,500. Third, if you did have to file the 1099k is reported on a schedule c, not the other form you're looking at, that is for different 1099 forms. You need to calm down and get better information.

See that's the thing: I have no idea what is or isn't good information because this is 100% new to me (unemployed for the past 15 years and only earned W-2 income before that) and my attempts at looking it up for myself via the IRS are not working because they're not specific enough to answer my questions, only bring up more questions.

I do know that I can file separately and still be claimed as a dependent which would keep me in a lower tax bracket (presumably a don't touch my pennies tax bracket).

As far as I know I DO have to file because of the new tax reporting laws that go into effect for the 2022 tax period.

That's where the confusion is coming in. Last year's rules no longer apply and I've had different people come at me citing last year's rules.

Trying to look that up I get conflicting information, old info, or multiple sources that directly contradict each other. I'm finding like "If you work for someone else, didn't earn more than $12k-ish and get a W-2 you don't have to file but you might want to. Though you may have earned more than $400 and gotten a 1099." and that doesn't help, it just stops there.

A couple places I can find outdated info (like 2019) saying "You have to file if you earned $400 and got a 1099." with no information about whether or not you'll owe taxes on that, just that you must file.

Almost all of the "You don't have to file if you earned less than $12k" resources are talking about W-2 earnings, not 1099 earnings.

What I've been told directly by a tax person is that I do need to file because will be generated a 1099-K by eBay, and do need to fill out those itemization forms because they will drop my taxable income considerably, but won't owe income taxes because my gross individual income will be below $12k.

Which means I'd need to get the rest of this information ready because I'm at around $3k right now (well over the new $600 reporting threshold), looking to earn maybe another $2k through the rest of the year which wouldn't be enough to have to pay if I were getting a W-2 but I'm not getting a W-2, I'm getting a 1099-K.

AND all of that info is federal taxes only, not even starting on state taxes.

The literal most anxiety inducing thing for me is not knowing exactly and this is the kind of thing I don't want to assume I understand and be wrong.

It would help if the multiple sources I'm trying to draw good information from would all give the same answers.

The only person I haven't asked, yet, is a CPA and I can probably contact That Guy's CPA and get his input without too much hassle he's pretty chill.

The argument at the end, after Eddie says it wouldn't be a good idea for her to see Christopher bc she left them, she says she needed him, she needed a husband and a co-parent - and "I needed someone to have my back!"

To which EDDIE says, "I always had your back"

(Also side note, I do like that the show doesn't try to sugarcoat what Shannon did being messed up, and that Eddie's own actions weren't really the right thing either[thinking about his conversation with Buck where he says he got to pretend he left for a noble cause even tho he was running], and that it was just a sticky situation that neither of them were equipped to handle in any way, and snowballed. I do kind of wish we could've gotten post-divorce Shannon and Eddie and Christopher interactions, figuring out how they fit together, if at all, bc I like those intricate and messy situations but I could see how that might get too close to retreading old ground re: Michael and Athena's divorce. But I do hate how ive seen the fandom like. Seem to oversimplify things with Shannon sometimes? And make her the ultimate villain, and Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, Ever)

The decision to have Buck and Eddie's first bonding moment end with "You can have my back any day" and "or, y'know, you could have mine" only to then six episodes later find out that at least a contributing factor to Eddie's marriage dissolving was that he "didn't have her back" is like. Such a galaxy brain chaos move for them to take, honestly. Like?? They could've had the phrasing be literally anything in 2x07 but instead they had it directly echo Buck and Eddie in 2x01. What was the reason? Why did they do this?

As for the rest of your ask:

(gosh this got long and, uh, opinionated. It is Not Pretty below the cut)

One of the things I really liked about Eddie Begins is that we did get to see him at the beginning of his journey in being Chris's dad because it gives us an opportunity to appreciate how amazingly he's grown as a father. Like, he didn't start out as a perfect dad and he was definitely kind of lost in the woods at the beginning there when it came to the whole "how do I parent" thing. And before Eddie Begins, we'd only ever seen the end result of the growth he's gone through, where he really is a fantastic dad whose son is basically his entire reason for being. Before Eddie Begins, we get to hear him say things like "I left first" and "I've failed that kid more times than I can count but I love him enough to never stop trying" but we kinda have to take that on faith? Because we hadn't actually seen him be anything besides a good dad until we saw his Begins episode. (And even then in his begins it's like "area man in his early 20s unsure how to care for small child while also coping with PTSD and a toxic support system" which like. yeah. no shit. there's one hell of a learning curve there)

The thing about Eddie and Shannon as a couple and as parents that always gets to me is that they were so fucking young. We don't know exactly how old Eddie is in the show, but we can guesstimate pretty safely that he's around the same age as Ryan which would make him between 23 and 24 when Chris was born, and it seems reasonable to believe Shannon was around the same age. It's also a pretty common reading in the fandom -- although I'm not sure how much canon support there is for it because we really, really don't know anything about their relationship pre-Christopher unless I'm forgetting something -- that they got married because Shannon got pregnant and that was the Done Thing. And when you're 23-24, baby on the way, freshly married, that is just like. So much. It sure as hell ruined my parents' relationship when they did that exact thing, and then they disliked each other until they were 27 and then they got divorced, and no one was happier than me about it, I have to tell you.

Back to the show, I can only give you my impressions, obviously, but the impression I have always gotten from the whole "I left too" conversation and the context that goes into it and the different behaviours we see exhibited by the characters is that Eddie "left" first and it comes across to me that he was basically an early twenty-something kid running scared from the abstract concept of being a father in general, and then when he was forced home by an honourable discharge, and was confronted with the reality of Christopher, he managed to step the fuck up and become Christopher's dad. It's there in 2x02, right? "Oh, you've got a kid? I love kids!" "I love this one." Eddie doesn't strike me as a Swiss Army Knife all-purpose Dad(tm) the way Bobby is. Eddie is Christopher's dad. (and like, of course, he's obviously moved by kids when he's on a call, we've seen that enough times to know that if there's a child who can even glancingly remind him of Christopher, Eddie's sense of self-preservation goes out the window, and I love that about him as heart-stopping as it can be in practice)

Shannon, on the other hand, didn't run from the idea of being a mother -- at first. When she left, it wasn't from the abstract. She left Chris (and "gave up" on Eddie, thanks Helena). She was not running from a concept, she was running from a reality. I think Shannon is a fascinating character to include in a television show as a side character, because she really isn't a one note character. Like, she was unarguably a bad mother, and from what we saw, she was a questionable romantic partner to have (but as you said, anon, Eddie was also not 100% the best romantic partner when he was with Shannon either; their entire relationship so far as I can tell was built on sexual chemistry which, uh, super does not sustain a relationship), but she also seems to have been a devoted daughter? I mean, yeah, it's entirely possible that her mom being sick was a convenient excuse to bail -- and obviously she didn't come back after her mom died, and didn't, y'know, contact her son or husband in the interim, so yes, I can see that being a valid way to read the situation. I don't think she's the Ultimate Evil, because she strikes me as a very human character in all the ways that people are more often than not really fucking flawed.

But then we get back to the actual break-up scene. The first time I watched it (and second, and third; then the fourth time the person I was watching with was like "I mean, sure, but it could also be read in this light") her "I'm just learning how to be someone's mother" speech really bothered me? Partly because it was the abstraction of it, right? Eddie doesn't like kids, he likes Christopher, and Shannon sort of had the inverse journey there, I guess, where it went from she didn't know how to be Christopher's mother, to she didn't know how to be a mother. And that speech bothered me because it always sounded to me like she was bailing again. She begged Eddie to let her back into Christopher's life (guilt? I guess?) and like, straight up bribed him with sex which was sure a choice, and then decides -- for a second time -- that she's out. It sounded, to me, she was handing Eddie papers and maybe, in a few years, possibly, once she'd had "time" to "figure out how to be someone's mother" she would try again. Just like she had in the interim between leaving when Christopher was little and the time of season 2.

And like, that could totally be a misunderstanding of the scene and what she was saying. It's what I took away from it, but that could very well be influenced by the fact I was raised by divorced parents and my dad had custody and if you count up all the time I spent with either parent when I was a minor, I was predominantly raised by my father and have had an especially tempestuous relationship with my mother that is mostly (sometimes) repaired now that I'm in my late twenties and have not lived with her since I was sixteen.

Back to the show, and to your comment that the fandom tends to treat Shannon like the Ultimate Evil and act like Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, I mean. Yeah. Fandom as a rule tends to shirk nuance. We're all fools here on the internet sitting in our blue industrial waste container crying about a wee woo show. I personally believe a more nuanced take on that might be that Eddie has shown a great capacity to learn from his mistakes (sometimes to make fun, shiny, new ones, but for the most part, just like ends up doing better the next time) and Shannon did not show that capacity in the time we knew her.

I think, depending on what they did with it, there was potential for an interesting storyline if they'd played through the divorce. I don't think it would've been rehashing ground covered by Michael and Athena's divorce because I can't see Eddie and Shannon having reached a point of amicability and friendship. The only thing we know they had in common was Christopher, and frankly, when you boil it down, the ways they engaged with Christopher as a person were so disparate that -- to me -- it really didn't seem like they had Christopher in common when you get right down to it. But I wouldn't have wanted to see Christopher and Eddie dragged through an ugly divorce process. They deserve better than that.

There's also a conversation to be had about Shannon's blatant ableism towards her own son, but that is extremely not my lane since I am not disabled myself. But even from an outside perspective, basically their entire parking lot conversation in Haunted, uh, haunts me with it's repugnance and the fact that instead of calling her on any of it, Eddie "Chronically touch starved" Diaz's response was to kiss her? Gosh golly do I wish that was one of the mistakes he learned from properly instead of finding a new, shiny version.

ANYWAY this got long, tl;dr (although if you clicked on the read more, you probably read it) version is No, Shannon is not the Ultimate Evil, she's a shitty mom not a demon in a skin suit and a pretty yellow sundress; and No, Eddie is not a flawless human who's never done wrong in his life but holy fuck is he trying and he'd be the first person to tell you he's made mistakes (and often has been); and no, sorry, I don't want to see the divorce storyline play out because we probably would've had to see either Eddie Bashing, Shannon Redemption, or Shannon turning up again like a cardboard cut out of a cartoon villain the way Eva did and I want to be witness to exactly zero of those things.

Hisoka Morow: Play Date

People always complained about the cold in winter, but honestly summer heat was much worse.

The fan next to you was on full blast, oscillating back and forth in a trivial attempt to cool the room. Its efforts yielding in only the slightest bit of sweat coating your body. Preferable to sweating out buckets, but only just so.

You pretended not to notice someone enter the room, eyes focused on the computer in front of you. The only thing that was helping to distract you from the heavy heat of the day was the dozens of web pages you were digging through for information.

Passively, you wondered how non- hunters got by. The license was worth a literal thousand times its weight in gold for all of the easy information you could pull up, if not more. Granted you also had to know where to look, but that just took some old fashioned luck and patience.

Patience that was starting to run out as your brow furrowed in frustration. Your fingers came especially hard down on the keys as you altered your search terms and replied to a forum post that was hunter exclusive.

“If this fucking idiot asks me this question one more time I swear I’ll break his fingers,” you mumbled, computer keys crying loudly as you abused them. “I’ll tear them off and stuff them into his-”

Your rant was cut off as the feeling of wet fabric crashed down over your head and the view of the computer was completely cut off by darkness. Startled, you yowled. On instinct your hands left the keyboard to grip at what felt like a wet, cold towel.

With a little struggle to find the edge you managed to peak out of the towel to shoot a glare at a giggling Hisoka who stood to your side. His enjoyment at watching your annoyed scramble only served to make you even more frustrated and you gripped the towel around your head like a scarf, pouting silently.

“It seemed like you needed to cool down,” he said, emphasizing the word ‘cool’ as a hand raised dramatically to his cheek.

“Maybe I’ll rip your fingers off instead,” you muttered. No way would you admit it to him- seeing as he was laughing at you- but the towel did feel nice.

His citrine eyes opened and looked at you with pinpoint accuracy. “Are you threatening me?” he asked, the lit in his tone dark with danger but sweet with excitement at the same time.

“Maybe,” you mumbled before turning back to the computer screen. Even if you had responded as if you were prepared to get into a fight with Hisoka, you didn’t particularly actually want one. It was far too warm to be getting physical like that.

Now that your concentration was broken you didn’t even want to look at the computer anymore. The screen felt like it was from another world as you disassociated into it. Idly you slid the towel from your head to your face as blank eyes continued to take in the glowing rectangle. Though you weren’t actually reading the screen you continued to stare at it blankly while blotting your face with the cool towel. You traced it down your neck, enjoying the feeling of the cool water wiping away some of the heavy sweat. As you brought it to your chest, you sighed at the relief that slowly swept through your hot skin.

Something must have struck Hisoka, because suddenly he gripped your shoulder and twisted your chair to look at him. He was bent at the waist, eyes level with yours as he grinned like a cat with a mouse. A low chuckle came just before he asked, “Honey, do you love me?”

A second passed.

Maybe another one.

All at once you felt hot again and you tried to push the chair back away from him, scrambling to create distance from this abrupt and uncomfortable situation. But Hisoka’s hand on your chair was firm, his muscular arms wouldn't’ allow you to slide back even a millimeter. “What the hell?!” you asked at last, holding the towel to your chest with both hands like a shield.

Hisoka laughed. He was obviously amused at your reaction. “Have you never heard of that children’s game?”

You didn’t relax but you couldn’t help but to think, ‘Of course it is something like this.’

“No. What are you talking about?” you asked incredulously.

Hisoka stood straight again, releasing your chair to put a finger up matter-of-factually. “It’s a game in which one player asks the other ‘Honey do you love me?’ The person being asked must respond with ‘Honey, I love you but I just can’t smile.’ If the person being asked cannot do that without smiling, they win.”

How did he think of these things?

“So what happens if the responder can say it without smiling?”

His grin widened. He knew he had your attention. Mentally you scolded yourself, he already had one victory now. The success of your interest. “You can play a few ways. The questioner can ask one more time, making any contact they wish to get a result. Or the questioner loses that round, the game continues,  and now the responder becomes the questioner.”

It made sense. To some extent. “Wait… then how is the game won?”

“You win by getting the questioner to slip up and smile.”

A corner of your mouth turned down in a contemplative gesture. “Doesn’t seem like much of a win.”

Hisoka’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “We could sweeten the deal then.”

A second victory for Hisoka. You huffed. “I didn’t say I would play. I am trying to work, you know. So we can get paid?”

Long fingers brushed your words away. “I’m bored of that. I think you should take a break. Unless you’re just scared of what I’ll make the reward for when I win.”

This was such an obvious trap. But one glance back to the computer was enough to make your brain shut down again and you knew that no matter how much you wanted to make this job move forward, you needed to look away from it.

Fuck.

“Fine. But if I win you have to go out and get dinner.”

“That’s all?” he asked.

“And a back massage,” you tacked on quickly.

Hisoka chuckled and rounded on you, moving to your side then to your back. “I agree. If I win you’ll do what I ask for one hour with no complaints.”

Your breath stopped as the tips of his fingers caressed the sides of your face. The self-preservation part of your mind couldn’t help but to imagine Hisoka simply ripping your head off. He probably could with ease if you dropped your guard. But the touches were gentle, fingers caressing your cheeks sweetly as he looked down on you from behind.

“Okay,” you responded against your better judgement.

“Excellent,” he hissed, satisfied. “But smiling alone seems too dull. Let’s change up that rule a bit, hmm?”

“Hisoka, you can’t just change the rules,” you complained.

His fingers arched up and slid into your hair, palms squishing your cheeks as he rubbed his fingers in and out of your hair line. “Come on now, y/n. Let’s make it more difficult. How about if the responder laughs, smiles, or fails to respond completely they lose?”

The suggestions were ominous. What was he planning on doing to win? But you had to admit that it would also help your odds. “No actively restricting the other’s ability to speak. Like covering their mouths,” you added.

Almost sounding hurt, Hisoka promptly responded, “Of course not.”

“Fine. Let’s start.”

“But you already lost. You didn’t respond, remember?” Hisoka teased, using his hands in your hair to tilt your face backwards to see his impish grin.

“I didn’t know it was a game then! That does not count, Hisoka!”

He sighed, face falling to a more neutral look as he slid his hands out of your hair. “Very well then. But I’ll still start.”

You swallowed, lowering your head to watch Hisoka come around to your front. This time his method was to remain standing, placing a hand delicately under your chin to help tip your gaze up to him. “Honey,” he started, voice as sweet as it could be, “do you love me?”

When you had agreed you had no idea your heart would hammer at hearing the words come from him a second time. Even if you were expecting it, they were just something you never in a million years would have expected from the magician. But, with a clenched hand against your knee you responded with a straight face, “Honey, I love you but I just can’t smile.”

Somewhat surprisingly your lips did tingle with the desire to smile. Probably from the absurdity of the situation.

Hisoka laughed. “Very well then,” he said, retracting his hand as his face went completely neutral. His seriousness was more frightening than his usual twisted joy. “Your turn.”

The way he was looking at you was making you even more nervous than you already were beginning to be, now that you were in control. You hadn’t gotten this far in your planning, so you had to act on impulse.

Standing you took the still slightly damp towel into both hands, threw it around Hisoka’s shoulders, and pulled him down to you, tilting your head cutely to the side. “Honey, do you love me?”

If Hisoka was tempted to smile or laugh it was impossible to tell. Turning the game back on you he leaned in closer, lips hovering over your own. “Honey,” each movement of his lips caused them to brush your own, “I love you but I just can’t smile.”

Consciously you had to remember to breathe as Hisoka stood there, looking at your face with focused eyes. “O-okay,” you responded a bit shakily, releasing the towel to step back. “Your turn.”

“You’re already blushing and we just started,” Hisoka pointed out, the joy in his voice not reaching his lips. He was playing so seriously that even when he was no longer the responder he wouldn’t smile. And it was unnerving.

“Just go,” you urged, crossing your arms subconsciously over your stomach. The heat in your face didn’t go away as the next round started.

This time Hisoka walked towards you, causing you to back away from him due to the slightly dark aura you were getting tastes of as he closed the distance between you with each step. As you clumsily bumped into the wall Hisoka put an arm onto the wall next to your head and leaned in slowly with purpose. Your head swam as Hisoka swooped down on you. Before you knew it he had the top of your ear between his teeth. Each hot breath out made you squirm against the wall.

“Honey, do you love me?” he asked in a low whisper before kissing your neck.

You had to swallow, putting both hands on the wall to literally steady yourself. Eyes squeezed tight you took a deep breath as his teeth grazed your skin. “Honey, I love you but I just can’t smile!” The words came out in a rush and all at once. It was either that or not at all and you would have lost right then and there.

Against your neck, Hisoka hmmed in disappointment. He pulled his face back, but made no other move to free you from your position. You waited for a moment, thinking he would eventually, but instead he just raised an eyebrow. “Are you giving up?” he asked, looking a bit annoyed at the thought.“No,” you replied firmly, his mere suggesting you were doing such a thing giving you some strength back.

What would make Hisoka laugh in times like this? You were trying to figure it out, seeing your time was running out as Hisoka’s look grew more and more irritated.

Remembering the towel it gave you an idea. Hisoka liked to laugh at you when he forced you out of your serious character. And right now you were being as serious as ever, even as he had you pinned against a wall.

You licked your lips, took in a shaky breath and readied yourself.

“Honey,” you began, making your voice a bit higher and cuter as you looked up at him through your lashes. Just to add to the effect you slid your hands along his waist and shifted your hips forward enough to be teasing. “Do you love me?”

Whatever Hisoka had been expecting, this wasn’t it. Before he had responded quickly and easily, but this time he paused for just a moment first. The tiniest hint of a muscle in his face showed he had to fight to keep from smiling this time as he responded, "Honey, I love you but I just can't smile."

Damn. You thought you had him that time.

"My turn. I hope you're ready to lose," he said, the sense of a hidden smile lingered though it still didn't reach his face. That feeling was so strange it made you shake a little as Hisoka's hands both went to your face.

One brushed your hair away from your eyes as he tilted his head each direction, really looking at you. The action was so simple, but it felt so intimate as his eyes scanned your face from your chin up to your eyes.

You could feel your heart tighten in your chest as his thumb rubbed your cheek. You told yourself you were steeled for anything, but when Hisoka gently laid his lips on yours something inside of you shifted.

The kiss was soft, the kind of kiss two people shared after a really excellent first date. And as Hisoka pushed his chest to yours, pressing you into the wall with just enough force to crush in a pleasing way, he moved one hand into your hair behind your head. With your head cradled so sweetly you felt a bit lost in the sensation.

He kissed you again, lips moving against yours and inciting you to kiss him back. A warm feeling filled your body as it fell into the moment. Feeling nothing but Hisoka’s lips moving against and his body slightly crushing yours.

When he pulled away you stayed where you were, feeling all the lingering emotions and sensations for a moment longer before you opened your eyes.

His face was still incredibly close, but it didn't feel as intrusive as it had before.

"Honey, do you love me?" he muttered, rubbing the thumb over your cheek again.

"Y-Yeah," you mumbled, still caught up in all the sensations in your head.

Hisoka laughed. Soft, rolling, and sinister.

"You lose.”

So I just read the new mononokean chapter

And I've decided to be a crack head theorist so get ready for that.

I have 3 theories regarding Ashiya and his parentage.

The first theory is about Sakae becoming an employee of the mononokean. This isnt so much a theory as it is speculation. In the new chapter Sakae is shown as kind to yokai as he gave tougen words of encouragement to help her not disappear after the avalanche in this exchange:

Sakae: so you were that quiet voice

Tougen: ...

Sakae: dont disappear...

I personally believe he may have gotten Tougen not to disappear with a more positive use of influence but I dont know. So we can assume that this interaction happened after Sakae became an employee of the mononokean and met Aoi. Seeing as how Aoi had mourned Sakaes loss of course. Ashiya assumes this interaction was just Aoi pretending to be Sakae once again to which Abeno replys that if that were true Tougen wouldn't have mistake him for the person she met so long ago. This begs the question that Ashiya himself asks at the end of the chapter: how can the same person who killed yokai using influence also be someone who encourages them and helps them not disappear? So now I ask you, how can this be the same person who possesed Ashiya and used influence to kill yokai, and if memory serves me, saying this wasnt the first time hes done this, meaning it was not in fact a one off to protect his son. How can a human even posses another.... which brings me to my second theory:

Is Sakae really Ashiyas parent? I mean really? There have been theories in the past about Ashiyas father actually being Aoi, and I mean... despite all of the Sakae content... they still make alot of sense. Even Abeno had no clue why Aoi visited Ashiya in the form of Sakae. Why would Aoi do that? And was the kind person who helped Tougen really Sakae? Or was Ashiyas theory right? The only way that Ashiyas theory would be correct, is if what Abeno said correlates to it... if Ashiya was related to Aoi. Of course yokai cant use influence.... and I doubt Aoi would be the one possessing Ashiya or something of the sort.... or be approving of killing a yokai so quickly... in fact, if Sakae was "reformed" as an employee of the mononokean before death and Aoi is dead dead then... how would either of them actually possess Ashiya? Sure, after Manjiro we can assume that humans become yokai after death but.... I have another idea about Ashiyas possession.

My third theory being: Was Ashiya even actually possessed? This probably sounds dumb but I just thought his whole going bonkers and using influence thing.... doesnt seem odd for him. Ashiya is the sweetest human being alive of course but... he isnt normal by any standards. The 3 powers of the underworld acted a bit shocked and as if it was an even rarer than seeing yokai ability to be able to use influence. Adding onto that Abenos reaction to Ashiya using influence on Yahiko may not have been a big WHOA but Abeno isnt that type of guy. Abeno DID tell Ashiya he needed to take some time to clear his head and organize his thoughts before they could talk about it though so... that's pretty telling.

But lets look back at the times Ashiya has used influence.

The first time, though nobody realised at the time, was with the capybara who had thought Ashiya had stolen from him.

Yall have got to admit though yes Ashiya had good intentions.... he was about to rip this dude apart. Even after Abeno intervened, Ashiya was zoned out for a few seconds until he 'woke up' again and ran to the then bleeding, Fuzzy.

Another instance, with Yahiko:

Ashiya had become compleately mindless once again, and had almost killed Yahiko after being scared by him, had Abeno not interfered sooner. Yahiko had literally thought he was going to die, not to mention even Fuzzy was cowering in the corner. Then afterwards it took Ashiya a moment to realize what had happened. If it wasnt for the others in the room I doubt he would have ever really thought it to be anything more than an odd dream.

Looking at these two instances we can see when Ashiya uses influence, his eyes turn gold and he doesnt remember what happened properly as anything more than a dream unless prompted to think otherwise.

Let's move on to the instance of all instances: During the spiders and then Sakaes possession.

When it sees Ashiya not to be normal the spider yokai says "how can a normal human like you have golden eyes!?".

Ashiyas eyes are golden.

Ashiya is using influence dangerously.

Ashiya is using influence unconsciously.

Ashiya will later think it was a very odd dream.

How is this any different than what has happened with him before? The only difference is that afterwards Ashiya continues to get dreams of killing yokai using influence. Ashiya using influence in his sleep.

This being so worrisome that Abeno ends up staying the rest of the night with Ashiya. Though I might remind you, when Ashiya was being awakened by Abeno, this time when using influence Abenos hand went through Ashiyas arm. Ashiya couldn't touch Abeno. At first I was going to simply theorize that it was just Ashiya using influence himself on the spider without influence but this begs some more questions: Is Ashiya still possesed? If so, how long has he been possessed? Is it really Sakae possessing him? Are there remanants of Sakae left behind in Ashiya? And... how human in Ashiya really, seeing his differences in influence to Abeno?

Lastly-- this isn't a theory just me pointing something out-- I found it interesting all those chapters ago when Ashiya was able to hear Kinako when she was fading when nobody else could. Yahiko only heard Kinako after Ashiya pointed it out. Then Tougen mentions Sakae being able to hear her, much like Ashiya now and how this is a similarity among them.

I just think its interesting.

For such a loud person, Ashiya seems to be a surprisingly good listener.
