Going to a funeral today and just now realizing that somehow, despite me being goth, my child has nothing appropriate to wear to a funeral. Her wardrobe is entirely bright colors. The only dark things she has are Halloween themed, which will NOT be appropriate at this particular funeral.
#mine#parenting#i even dug into her 'next size up' clothes but the closest we've got is a semi-dark floral long sleeve shirt#and she doesn't have any skirts except for a rainbow tutu#it might be cool enough for her to wear that shirt with black pants today#otherwise it's gonna be a pink dress with a leia print on it

W I L L Y O U T A K E M Y C A S E ?
Jennifer Walters x Reader
Request: yesss
Summary: you and Jen finally get around to that coffee date and more :)
Warnings: Swearing; alcohol and cannabis consumption; criminally hot Jen
Word Count: 2
You had never been so nervous nor excited for a date.
But it was a date, right? What if she sabotaged your court case if it went badly? What if she was disappointed? What if you read her wrong and all she originally wanted was to talk about your case?
But she had blushed and she was no saboteur. She had already e-mailed you on the case and said all she needed to. No, it would be fine. It was with a secondhand kind of defiance you decided you needed to take on that same bold edge you automatically had with other women.
"Can I get you something to drink, young man?" an elderly waiter wheezed, looking thoroughly displeased when you politely told him you were still waiting for someone.
You thought about the Lin Kuei, in a reminiscent way that did bubble up to bother you at least once a day.
What might they think of you here, anxious over a woman they would probably no sooner consider kind than a threat to human society.
You were so lost in thought you didn't notice the door swing open to reveal Jennifer.
She smiled in your direction, presently realising that you didn't know she was there. She noted how you looked so cool and uninterested in everything around you. Something she hadn't seen in you at her office.
You finally glanced at her and immediately lit up with a grand smile.
"I'm glad to see you, Miss Walters."
She sat down happily, seeing again and in a stronger light today that wondrous body, that beautiful smile, those skilled fingers trilling on the surface of the table.
"It's nice to see you too, Mr (y/L/n)," she teased.
You took a moment to let your eyes wander across her attire; the similar white shirt and black pants as she had been wearing last, only with the top buttons undone in a sort of casual flexibility.
"So, am I right to assume the time had come to cover the usual?"
The elderly waiter scurried over immediately, purposefully ignoring the appearance of Jennifer, willing to bring you both your coffee and tea, no matter the skin colour.
"What did you have in mind?"
"Where are you from, Miss Walters?"
•••
"You did what? Oh, that's brutal," you laughed incredulously, Jennifer snickering at her childhood story.
"Well, David shouldn't have called me Susan. He knew I didn't like it, I swear. I had no choice but to unleash all the power of the chicken on him."
"Damn, I'm glad I'm not your cousin. Is this a bad time to tell you I'm afraid of millipedes? If I ever do something to hurt you, will you drop a bucket of them over my head?"
"Millipedes? What on earth's so scary about millipedes?" she laughed, and you decided them and there you were prepared to admit to a thousand fears to hear her laugh 1001 times.
"Well- I dunno, they kinda just crawl all over you, y'know? When I was little we had a basement and in the winter the whole floor was full of them and if you stood there long enough they'd start crawling up your legs." You shuddered. Another things the Lin Kuei would never understand.
"Okay, that does sound pretty uncomfortable," she conceded, a quick, involuntary glance at her watch when she saw the waiter glare at them.
Apparently, he wasn't used to loud customers spending more than two hours at his workplace without spending more than ten dollars.
"Looks like moustache is getting impatient, huh?" you whispered, winking at her before standing up and pressing a ten dollar bill into the man's palm coolly.
It seemed those two dollars and 30 cents extra were enough to buy you an extra warm goodbye, with many good tidings and an enthusiastic 'can't wait for your next visit'.
"You didn't have to pay, y'know," Jennifer said on the way out, the glass door falling into place with a clank behind you.
"That's fine. You can pay next time if you want." She couldn't help but smile at the implication of a next time.
"So... I'm heading to a house party with a friend soon, but if you want you can tag along?"
You didn't really expect her to accept. Your date had ended, she probably wanted to go home and recuperate, or head back to work, depending on how her hours worked...
You realised then how much you still wanted to talk to her about.
What you hadn't calculated into your estimation was that Jennifer, while possibly rather nervous or an over-thinker - was also a merciless extrovert.
"Yeah, sure, if you really don't mind?"
"Certainly not, love," you covered up quickly, and so you comfortable made your way to a rather different part of Los Angelos.
Your friend Wren lived in a rather rundown place in the north of L.A. Her apartment basically consisted of a kitchen, a dingy bathroom with a broken light and a poorly concealed bed.
You opened her door with you own set of keys, the first event of the evening Jennifer didn't comment on.
"Wren! You home?"
"Yeah, just putting on my make-up. Come on in," she shouted back from her giant bed.
"I brought a visitor." You glanced at the clock in the kitchen which read half past six.
"Really? You telling me you had human contact with someone apart from me?" Mockery ebbed into her tone with defiance.
"Jennifer. I told you, remember?"
The second event she didn't ask about.
"Oh... right. Wait a sec." There was some shuffling from behind the paper flip-wall and she popped out, one eye with eyeliner and mascara and one without. "Hi! It's nice to meet you."
"Uh- Nice to meet you, too." Some part of Jennifer had denied the female voice and somehow stuck to the assumption that your friend was a man.
Wren was very far from a man. She thrived on being feminine and her body had definitely graced her with a figure to support that sentiment.
You pulled her into a quick hug. Not the kind of quickness that derived from lack of comfort, but the kind which you only did out of habit because you saw each other every day, anyway.
She gulped. You wouldn't have asked her on a date if she had anything to worry about. You wouldn't have asked her if she wanted to come if you weren't interested after all.
Or would you? Did the date not go well? Were you just being polite?
"Zip this up for me, would you?" Wren asked, turning around from one skin-bearing side of her dress to another. Not much was left to imagination.
You zipped up the back of her black dress harshly, leaning over to whisper in her ear: "Cut it out. I don't need you making her jealous, the date went well."
She pulled away, offered Jennifer something to eat and while she walked to the fridge, her answer was breathed right back at you: "If you're not at home fucking, the date didn't go well enough."
You sighed. Wren generally focused on the physical part of relationships, and admittedly, usually you did, too. But this was a different situation.
Jennifer wasn't just hot - she was, no doubt about it - she was also kind and smart and open and...
Oh, no.
"So, Jen... I wasn't counting on you coming, but I have a dress here that you can wear."
"Oh. Wow, that's really nice of you," Jennifer answered kindly, ignoring the nickname.
"Here," Wren announced, pulling out one of the most revealing dresses You had ever seen in your life. Red with a slight shimmer, high cuts on the sides, deep v-neck, a diamond cut out above the abdomen, and on her it would be… well, her.
"You're fine to go in what you're wearing now, too," you said quickly, but again you had underestimated her confidence.
"No, that looks nice. Thanks again."
She took the dress under her arm with a wink and sauntered to the bed. Your eyes widened and you couldn't help but follow the swing of her hips.
"Okay, first of all, she's hot, like, truly sexy," Wren started, and I let my face fall to my palms. "Second; totally into you. She was glaring daggers at me before."
"Yes, thank you for that," you whispered sarcastically.
"You're welcome." A cunning smile, indeed.
What that dress on Jennifer did to you could not be described. The curve of her ass and bosom that you swore to yourself you only noticed in peripheral vision and the hugging fabric, slights rills for texture, her hair out and shining.
You looked away quickly as to not let your body betray you, and this was the third event Jennifer didn't question even though she wanted to.
•••
You were quick to realise that this was not Jennifer's scene and that she was subsequently doing an impressive job of blending in.
The night club hadn't been busy; it was only 7:30 when you arrived - far too early for the crowd, but you were going to meet some friends and had hoped to talk before two bodies couldn't help but press together in the open space.
It was eleven o'clock now - you had long given up on talking and had waded into the crowd to dance, or at least move somewhat to the beat.
And even though she was only moving to the beat, Jen looked incredible. She always did, but this was a little new.
She had transformed back to human form because she didn't want to be introduced or recognised as a hulk and she wanted to fit into the dress.
You couldn't believe how much you loved both of her forms. How could she always be so gorgeous?
"Hot in here, isn't it?" she asked, having managed to reach the other end of the open.
You opened your mouth once or twice before answering, still half embarrassed by your thoughts, then mumbled a 'yeah, I guess so'.
"Can we go outside for a moment?"
"Sure."
Once you were situated in the backyard of The Black Cat, you pulled out a cigarette, lighting it quickly, only now considering whether that might put her off.
Deeming it too late, you took another drag and held it between two fingers as you sat down. "What's up, love?"
"Something's off about you," she stated bluntly, and you accidentally took the smoke up your nose.
"Sorry?"
"Oh- Okay, that sounded wrong. What I mean is- Look, I have had more contact with the supernatural in the past year than ever before, so my believing has been tried and tested. You," she pointed her index finger in your vague direction as if she had to specify who she meant, "did not seem bothered by that scorching hot coffee until I asked you about it. You aren't hot in the club. You don't sweat. Your fingers were blue the other day at the office - I promise, it wasn't nearly that cold."
You gulped. It was a bad habit of yours - letting your fingers go cold when you were anxious to distract you. How could you make an excuse to explain this? Would she believe it? Could you make yourself tell her all that simply wasn't true?
Weren't you finally tired of hiding that part of you?
"Uh- Okay. You promise you won't freak out?" you asked unsurely, and she quickly nodded. "Well- Have you ever heard of Sub-Zero? That, um... That might or might not be me, depending on whether or not you're one of the people who think he's a vigilante."
You could clearly see the shock on her face and your heart sunk. No one knew that other than people involved and Wren. You hadn't trusted anyone else. You had only known this woman for two days. Why had you told her?
"I'm not. If there's one thing I've learned other than to expect everything... it's that you don't know anything if you don't have a motive."
She smiled. You beamed.
She leaned in slowly, closing her eyes, and you stomach did somersaults in the most childish way you might imagine.
Your lips met and it all fell into place. Literally and figuratively. You were born to kiss this woman. Born to put your hands on her waist and pull her into your lap while she ran her fingers through your hair. Born to think of what a beautiful mind she had while being overwhelmed by physical attraction.
You stayed like that for a while, then danced together, then went back to Wren's house in the early hours to help your friend throw up and finally parted with a goodnight kiss that lasted just six seconds too long.
She didn't question any more events that night.

Sorry if it's a bit rushed toward the end but I've already written the next part and I wanted to post it... will do so upon interaction ;) that's called marketing strategies btw

Valentine's Blessings
Chapter 1/5: The Crush
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex was a bit bummed. It was Valentine’s day tomorrow at his high school, and being a senior, it felt a bit weird that he was the only one who didn’t have a partner. It's not that he was going out of his way to get girls like other guys, but he still wanted someone to be with. The day always made him feel like he was super lonely. The ringing of the bell snapped him out of his thoughts.
“So class, remember to get your assignments in tonight. I know a lot of you might have plans for tomorrow and don’t think you wanna spend time still working on it” The teacher said.
He got up and started putting his stuff in his bag. It was his last class of the day and because today was Thursday, it meant he was taking the bus home.
“So Esther. Anybody interesting ask you to be their valentine?” A girl asked the person standing next to her.
“Ugh… Just the usual ones. None of them are the right one, you know?” Esther said.
Esther, one of the prettiest in school. She had the eye of every guy in school and that meant everyone of them would try to have a chance with her. Of course, Alex also had a crush on her though he never did take his chance. He would learn that every guy who would ask her out would get turned down, so he didn’t out of fear of the same thing happening to him.
“Well maybe that cuz those chumps are me. So what do you as baby, wanna be mine Valentime.” A deep masculine voice said.
“You mean Valentine, Walter?” the girl next to Esther said.
“That's what I said Menia.” He said.
“Marina.” She corrected.
“Yeah yeah. So what do you say Esther?”
“Once again, the answer is no Walter.” Esther said nonchalantly.
“Oh come on. What, am I not good enough for you?” He whined.
“Maybe because you have more muscles than brains.” Alex accidentally said out loud.
They all turned to face him. Well now he’s done it. Walter walked over to him. The big jock only towered 2 inches above him, but was much more built then him. Alex's shaggy black hair, red t-shirt with a black jacket, jean pants, and flat footed shoes, didn’t really help him stand out much. Whereas Walter’s smooth back blond hair, varsity jacket, football team jersey and pants, and nice looking shoes, made him look like the coolest person alive. Although most knew he was kinda dumb.
“What was that twerp?” Walter said aggressively.
“I’m mean… Didn’t your recent girlfriend break up with you cause you couldn’t remember anything about what she liked? And so did the 3 before that?” Alex said.
“So?”
“SO, maybe if you used your head instead of your muscles, you might keep a girl for more than 2 days.”
The girls giggled at that comment. Walter looked like he was in a stun lock.
“Y-yeah well… Y-You're just jealous that you don’t have these.” He flexed as he walked out the room, before running off sadly.
“Why could he not be a girl instead? He’d be a better bimbo than himbo.” Marina said.
“Yeah, and we all know how much you’d love that.” Esther said. She walked over to Alex.
“Hey thanks for that. Alex right?.” She asked.
He nodded. This was one of the few times he got her up close. Her dyed blue-cyan gradient hair went down to her shoulders. She was wearing a neon yellow shirt, with a white jacket over it. Her blue leggings and cyan shoes complemented her legs and he could help but notice how thick they were.
Why must my mind go there? He thought to himself.
“Umm Yeah. Sorry you have to deal with him, Esther.” He says.
“That’s alright. It was really nice of you to do that for me.” She asked
“Oh, don’t mention it. I just hate it whenever guys do that.” He said moving towards the door where they were. “I know right!? They think they’re super cool, but they come off really lame.” She laughed, “You know, given your build I’m surprised that they didn’t try to make you one of them.”
He seemed to shrink down at that comment.
“Oh no, I don’t really fit in with other guys. Never really have.” He said meekly.
“Oh sorry, I didn't mean anything by it.” She apologized.
“No, it's fine. Look, I gotta go catch my bus. See ya.” He said as he ran off.
Esther was left there a bit stunned.
“Esther! Did you see what I saw?” Marina asked, her eyes softly glowing with hints of pink and blue.
“Yeah, I did.” She replied with the same glow in her eyes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he got off the bus, and walked inside he noticed that his parents were still out town for work. He went to the kitchen, and put some pizza bites in the microwave. When they were done he took them up to his room. In his room, he sat on his bed and played a game, one of his favorite RPG’s. As he loaded up the game, his character spawned in.
He thought about his interaction with Esther. Why was he always awkward around her and other girls? While sure, he did seem to get along with girls then he did with most of the other guys, he still felt odd around them. He looked at his character, a cute tech girl he made in the game, and then around his room at all of his figures of anime girls. He flopped back onto his bed feeling bad for having the figures as felt was just being a weirdo.
I should get rid of those figures, they’re kind of weird to own. Tho they’re very cute, and I feel… Happy when looking at them? Ugh… What's wrong with me? He thought.
He didn’t know why he felt like this, but it happened almost everyday. He decided to head to bed early for the day. He hoped that maybe tomorrow, life would change. Little did she know, she would get her wish.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next
This story was requested by the lovely @mistresskabooms. I hope you enjoy this little set up, cuz it going to get a bit longer from here. And yes I know valentine's day was a while ago I still wanted to write something leave me alone.

And I get the one with the beam machine not into the head but they have a bean machine that goes into the arms and the mask is the early mask I think it's cool and you wear a black muscle shirt that's what they're called and a white undergarment and I can wear the muscle suit under that and it'll be the white and black just like the mask and I think it's a good idea or maybe even black sleeves I'm not sure what which would look better and then the pants are a question I'm thinking like a kind of a you didn't spandex pants with like a black shorts over them but you're not so long as the ones I get anyway the little gun belt maybe cool
Zues
I think it's a good idea it's a lot of clothes and you're going to be hot it has to be during the winter but you never make it and it'll probably spend a lot of time outside anyways and people want to know who you are it's a way to try and get them to do things but he'd be wearing a full mask he's going to try and figure out how to put it together the pants are easy the shorts are easy just black swim trunks and they saw him he says without the insides and it's really like one of his pajama bottoms that are black and he already has the shorter ones but he needs shorter ones than those and you can get them real cheap and also so it takes care of the pants and the shirts easy that's at Walmart and the undergarment has to be like probably a white or even black he says and then you won't see that it's a muscle shirt so it has to be like a white kind of a loose-fitting shirt but not too loose and he says he probably has they probably have those somewhere and it's like a pullover shirt and he can try and find those they might even be like a loose fitting nylon I like exercise wear I've seen stuff like that and then the mask you can buy and the gear you can make somehow with tubes and run a band around the arms and it looks really cool and you just spray the inside of the tubes green and it looks awesome I mean these things really really stand out and he would look pretty cool kind of built up a little and he said he'd wear his boots that takes care of that problem and he'd be harder than hell hotter than hell but I think it's a good idea cuz people won't know who he is and he'll go in there but you know he can't really get there
Hera
You see these ideas and think you're nuts but really everybody's watching you and your apartment and everything very closely today was a nightmare and the guy is going to jail and it's Trump he's still in the line being a little kid and he's messing himself up and he has no plan that makes sense and we're going to go after him and the car did get run off the road and he admitted it a long time ago and doesn't remember it but he's a moron
Michael too
And Tommy f is the one who did it and he was there and I know what he was doing
Trump
We're trying to threaten him and stuff and he's having to do things that are much worse than getting in trouble he keeps telling us don't do that I see this happening to you we're starting to get it
Dave
Probably not enough to stop and they're addicted and they're losing and they don't notice it yet they're going into the tunnels huge numbers of them the trumpsters are going to be cut in half by tomorrow morning and from the start of this 4 or 5 days ago and that's a lot and bja would have lost a quarter and they're going to lose their whole fleet it's starting to fire up again and they're going to head out to Hera and her area and they're going to try and everybody's right on them right now and they're not going to have a fleet left there's only two billion chips and all of them are heating up and they're going to go all those people are going to be dead it means a lot because the pseudo empire is going to have around 15 billion ships and the empire will have $35 billion ships it's ridiculous that's far too many and it's these people and it's their fault and they have to try and fix it by taking ground bases all over the place where they refuel and they have to try and take the lasers and all this other stuff and they're going after it hard but it's not really doing anything
Thor Freya
This is a terrific costume idea and I hope he goes through with it it's going to be a lot of fun we're going to try and make it so he can do it but he needs transportation and all those things he can afford and he can he can go weightlifting in the outfit and he can actually go weightlifting with the spandex on when he does legs and the shorts of course and everybody joked about that earlier that he was huge it might look really bad and there's some laughter even Billy Hicks his identity is still a secret. We actually see why and he said it and they heard it and said boy that makes sense. He said Brad is going to be a criminal internationally and wanted to do that couple other things we are working on a lot of things to help him out and we're getting them done and they're coming out shortly and please do it and she does as well and she says thank you and she does as well and he says it
Luana Ariana
And Hera and she says that vital and goddess wife and that's me and speaking we thank you for the idea no it's your idea so I guess we do thank you and we hear it and it's very simple code it is our son's code it just dawned on me that he's using it that he'll do this being character and it spawns a massive army of ours because people hear it about and they start the same stupid s*** everywhere. He says we need it now right now I'll start working on it
Vital and got his wife

Bad Timing I
A/N: This is you and your ex, (Detective) Harry, winding up in each other’s lives again after a traumatic event in your life. I’ve had this idea in my notes app for like a year, and I just decided to go for it this week! It’s a little all over the place as I set it up but I think the next part will go a lot better if you can stick with it (and I appreciate you if you can <3).
Warnings: Violence (guns), PTSD?
Part 1 / (.5) / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4
------------------------------------------
I had booked Thursday and Friday off in advance. I made sure my e-mails were forwarded, my clients were told I wouldn't be in, and any internal matters were allocated to my assistant. It was going to be a relaxing long weekend where I could have a homemade meal for once and watch Netflix all day. I was my branch’s youngest director and even though it was a fulfilling job, I hadn't had a day off since I got the position four months ago.
This was probably why, at 9am, I get a call from my assistant. One of our bigger clients was refusing to discuss his loan terms with anyone and wanted to speak to me directly.
"Tell him I'm not in Adam, you shouldn't even be calling me-I have the bloody day off."
"Yess but he said he's coming in at 10 and if you're not here he's switching banks for his personal and business accounts." Adam stuttered. “If you lose this client H-”
"Jesus," I look at my outfit and the time-I barely had any time to make it to the bank; it took me 40 minutes just to get to work. "I'll be there-distract him if I'm late. Oh! Ask about his daughter's new private school!"
I rush to my room and apply minimal makeup, pull back my y/h/c hair and throw on my black cigarette pants and a blazer. I'm halfway down the lift when I realise I was still in my t-shirt. "Shite," I mutter. I button the blazer and put my scarf around my neck so it's covered. That was decent enough for my day off.
I arrive breathless and sweaty 5 minutes early to the bank despite the cool weather. Might have seemed like a win if that wasn’t when everything went downhill. Just as I walk up to the side door, waving at Adam who was walking out to greet me, a crash from the entrance startles me.
"Hands up!” A loud voice booms from behind me. “Don't touch a fucking thing!" I turn, seeing Adam’s shocked expression, just in time to be shoved to the floor by four people dressed all in black, and wearing celebrity masks. In all my time working here, I’d never been part of a bank heist and some part of me is frozen, mind blank. I wasn’t even supposed to be here!
"I said to put your hands up!" The one with a Brad Pitt face points the gun around the room as people scramble for cover. I inch backwards to the counter as I watch them manhandle the customers and pull our bankers to the floor. I release a breath, trying to snap out of the shock I seemed to be in. The base of a column digs into my back and I focus on that to ground myself, scanning each robber, and where my employees were. Adam has his hands on his head, the closest one to me. I try to catch his eye to reassure him but he’s squeezing them tight. I didn’t blame him, Brad Pitt stands over him menacingly. I look to the customers, they weren’t trying to be smart--that was good. I’d watched enough TV to know that was never a smart move.
Just as I think that, from the corner of my eye, I catch Cole, one of our guards reach for his gun. A loud shot echoes through the small space and I swivel my head trying to see what's happened while making sure everyone was okay. The thief wearing a Kanye West mask, manning the front entrance of the bank, had shot Cole in the arm and he was bleeding all over the floor. My first instinct is to help him but I'm yanked back down before I make it a step.
"We’re not missing the next person who moves a muscle. I want you all to drop your phones in the middle! No. Fucking. Funny business." The thief who shot Cole points his gun to all of us and it takes all of me to not hyperventilate. I hear a few people crying but I don't dare look. Instead, I watch on as David Beckham drags Cole to the side and ties his hands behind him. I can see by the wincing that they didn’t care whether they twisted his arms too hard. This wasn’t a petty robbery, they were hardcore.
"Who has the passcode to the vault?" Brad Pitt asks as one of his friends goes around zip tying everybody's hands behind them. When nobody answers he shoves the gun in Adam’s face and I let out a sob. What did we do to deserve this?
"Me," I choke out. “Don’t hurt him, I have the passcode. I know it.”
"You?" The man asks. "You better not be lying bitch or you'll be joining your friend there."
I nod as he pulls me up by the arm and uses my scarf to tie my hands. I try to stay calm, the only way I could get through this before the police arrived was to keep my calm. Everything in me is screaming to do something--fight, scream, swear, cry, but I keep my mouth shut and follow Brad Pitt and the joker to the back. I'm led at gunpoint to the vault and they untie me so I can put in the code and my thumbprint. The one in a Joker mask presses her gun into my back and I know the least of my worries was a bruise but that was the only thing I could focus on.
She shoves me forward when I pause, hovering my finger over the finger pad, in the distance I hear sirens. Please let us all be okay, I pray.
"Don’t be a fucking hero, let’s go!" The female behind me yells in my ear and I rush to press my thumb.
As soon as I finish the procedure, I feel an explosion like fireworks against the side of my head and everything goes dark.
H POV:
I walked into the station around 10, just having come back from a nearby escalated domestic call. It wasn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever been involved in at 10am on a Thursday morning.
"Harry, there seems to be some sort of commotion near Holborn, the director wants you in his office." Serena, the receptionist tells me gravely. I don’t even consider the street, assuming it would be another criminal to go after. But when I go into the office, we get the rundown: there was a robbery happening at the HSBC. That’s when I understand the gravity of the situation.
"We’ve sent a few men right now, they seemed to be armed so proceed with caution." He warns. I had been on the force for over four years; I moved rank fast and knew how to handle myself so the warning was mostly for the junior constables. But my heart thuds violently in my chest when I think about the possibility...no. I had to focus. But I can’t help but try her cell on our way to the scene. When it continues to ring, my thoughts go to the worse place possible. I know I hadn’t spoken to her in nearly a year, like she wanted, but if anything happened to her, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.
When we arrive at the scene, the thieves are still inside. I make sure nobody makes any moves, following protocol, and trying to gauge the exact situation inside. But before I could give orders, a man holding up his zip-tied hands shuffles out of the building. I notice the terror on his face and the fact that he's not armed.
"Down!" I say. The restless energy building up inside of me makes every move feel frantic.
"They left out the back! They left!" The man's shaky voice reaches our ears. I gesture a few of the officers to head around back and radio in the update.
"Get his statement, be sensitive,” I snap at the closest officer before I take a few of my officers indoors. The scene inside only reminds me why I do what I do, there's glass on the floor, phones in a pile and bullets littering the floor. Everyone looks shocked, people are crying, and a man in the corner is bleeding profusely.I scan all their faces but I don’t see her. I pray that she might have taken the day off today or something, even though I knew she rarely every did. Where was she?
"Medical," I order. I face the crowd, "You're all alright, If everyone can slowly get up and follow Officer McGregor out, we'll see that your belongings are returned to you and collect statements later. You’re all alright now."
"Sir," a bloke off to the side steps forward from the group getting up. "Our manager was taken to the back...we're not sure how she is, she hasn't come out...”
I reassure the crowd she should be fine. I didn't want them to see me panic, not to mention if we had any casualty the press outside were going to bombard this crowd with insensitive questions and I really wanted to keep this on the low. I was considered young for a DCI and any screw up meant I took it twice as hard. And I didn’t know if I could behave normally if I didn’t find her in any way except breathing. I put on my brave face.
I get an officer to stand by and venture cautiously into the back, spotting an open vault. I hurry into the area when I spot her, laying motionless on the floor.
“Y/N,” I rush forward, skidding on my knees to check on her. “Pleasepleaseplease.” I put my fingers to her pulse and nearly shout in relief. She was alive! I send a thanks out into the universe, to whoever was watching over her. “Y/N! Y/N, can you hear me?”
Her eyes flutter under her lids. I turn her gently onto her back, she was wearing a Green Day t-shirt under a smart jacket and trousers--that was unlike her. She always dressed very smart. I gently remove her short strands off her face to reveal a nasty bruise on the side of her head. I try to stifle my heartbeat; it scared me seeing her like this. I’m about to call my officer but her long lashes flutter and suddenly she's looking at me, dazed.
"Y/N! Are you alright?" I inquire. She blinks, and then again, her eyebrows drawn together as she stares at me. I try again, “Y/N, answer me please! Are you alright?”
"I...do I...bloody look alright? Where did they go?" She snaps out of her daze and tries to sit up but her hand goes to her head which must be throbbing. I place a hand on her back so she doesn't fall back down.
"Oh thank god,” I sigh in relief, she could talk. She was alright. “Th-they’'ve managed to escape. We'll deal with that. You were knocked unconscious so we should get you checked-”
"Those bastards," she snarls. I bite back a chuckle as I help her up. She pushes me away as soon as she's on her feet. "I wasn't even supposed to bloody be here today you know that? It was my day off and....Jesus.” She clutches her forehead. “How's everyone else? Chris? Adam?"
"Everyone is fine, your guard’s being taken to hospital. Everyone else is untouched, we need to have you checked out though." I am mesmerized, as always, by her ability to talk about ten things at once.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“It’s my case, I guess,” I tell her, expecting the question. She scowls. “I’ll have to ask you some questions later, but Y/N we need to have your head checked.”
“I’m sure you’d like that,” she mumbles.
“You’re proving by the second that you’re quite alright but we’ve got to get you to a medic anyway,” I gesture forward so she can walk ahead of me. I didn’t want her falling or anything. The constable at the door watches her walk out and eyes me warily.
"She need her statement taken chief?"
"I'll take her down to the station myself--she's hurt." I dismiss the officer and follow Y/N out. I wanted to keep an eye on her right now. “Can I help you walk?”
“My legs are working fine,” she snarls whilst clutching her forehead.
Your POV:
I could not believe today's turn of events. I was supposed to have a relaxing day off but instead, I’m rushed to work so I could be held up by thieves, forced to help them rob my branch, only to be mildly concussed. And the person on the case is none other than my ex-husband Harry Styles.
The only thing going for me is that I don't cry easily (or i would be a sniffling mess right now). And Harry was the last person I wanted to cry in front of although he’s seen me at much worse. I push aside those memories, ignoring his lingering eyes and try to walk ahead of him.
I cover up my shaking hands by stuffing them under the blanket I'm wrapped in when Harry leads me to the ambulance. He stays to the side while the medic goes through a questionnaire and informs me on what I need to know about being mildly concussed. All I could think about is the feeling of a gun pressed to the small of back, the chill of it through fabric.
"Miss?" The medic asks.
"Sorry, I got it. Yes. Thank you."
"I asked how you got here?" The medic begins to look concerned. Shit. I did not want more attention.
"I...meant I got what you were saying. Sorry, I rode the tube in."
"Great. You can ride with me to the station," Harry says from the side. I avoid his gaze but I have to agree. There was no way I was taking the tube during a time like this. I had a concussion.
So I'm sat in the back whilst Harry drives with his partner. I catch Harry glancing in the rear-view more often than he should and when we make eye contact, he gives me a reassuring smile. But sitting in the back of the car, I feel like the metal tip of a gun still keeps my spine straight. My lungs feel like they're not expanding large enough for air and I clutch the seatbelt strapping me in. I try to name all the countries I could remember--a coping technique I’d used since I was a kid to try and distract myself.
"You alright miss?" The other officer sounds concerned.
"Yeah," I choke out. "Just a little stuffy back here."
"Oh ‘m sorry," Harry opens the back window and I greedily gulp the fresh air coming in. My panic subsides and I settle back into the seat.
*
"And that's all you remember?" Harry sits on the desk chair next to me even though his own seat remains empty behind the desk.
"Exactly as I've told you, like, 20 times Harry."
It was now two hours later; I'd sat waiting for an hour before receiving my phone only to find multiple calls from the bank’s higher-ups. After dealing with them, I had to wait another half hour before finally being interviewed. I proceeded to drink two cups of bad coffee while giving every detail of what I remember, their masks, and so on. Every time I said something that could help, Harry would backtrack and I would explain it three different ways. It was frustrating and the repetition kicked my anxiety up so that I was on the edge of a breakdown. I grip the arms of the chair and respond to Harry. "Listen, alright, why would I not be telling you the full story? Of course that's all I bloody remember! It's not like I had an out-of-body experience and I saw them leave through the back door.”
"I'm sorry Y/N, it's just routine." Harry keeps a straight face on. "We have a few suspicions we're trying to corroborate by interviewing everyone involved. I promise I’m just being thorough-"
"Yeah yeah alright, you sound like you're reading from a bloody manual," I pinch the bridge of my nose and sigh into the silence. When Harry doesn't say anything, I look up to see him watching me with an amused expression.
"What?" I ask, annoyed.
"It’s been a while...I forgot how charming you can be.”
“What can I say, you bring it out in me.”
"Very interesting outfit by the way," he takes my snark in stride, gesturing to my outfit with his pen instead. I cross my arms in front of me. He's still got the stupid expression on his face, it looks unchanged from the one he used to give me once upon a time. When he found something I did funny but in a loveable way; the feelings that surface are almost unbearable.
"Don’t judge my outfit, I had to rush to work for our client meet-oh shit." I pull out my phone and check my email but there's nothing from the client. Probably avoiding the shit show. I notice the time, with all the time I’d wasted today I may as well not have taken the day off at all.
"So you weren't meant to be at work today except for this client? Bad timing isn’t it." Harry reads to himself from his notes. I stare at him, wishing I could burn a hole into his skull to see if he really had a brain in there.
"I've told you this five times before, Harry. You're literally reading from your notes. If you're just going to ask the same questions over and over I’m sure you can find the answers in there and I can go home."
"Right but something doesn't add up, I just want to make sure I have all the details."
"Do I have to be here to watch you do your mental maths?" I wasn't very nice when anxiety and frustration became my base emotions. But Harry knew that.
He looks at me, eyebrows raised at my snark. "I'm sure that you want to get to the bottom of this just as much as I do-"
"But that's not my job," I remind him. "That's yours. I've done mine, and I'd really just like to go home." My voice cracks, and I feel a rush of embarrassment.
"How about I drop you off home? I can walk through the day with you once more during the drive?”
He looks at me expectantly, “I’d rather stab myself in the eye.”
"Best not to with the concussion,” Harry pushes my buttons, and I’m kind of surprised. The last time we saw each other he’d been accommodating to my anger but he was pushing back today. Like he used to when we were together when he riled me up simply because he found it amusing.
When I scowl though, he gets serious. “Y/N, just let me give you a ride home and we can talk more.”
I didn’t want to stand around arguing, I was tired, so I just agree. He smiles, his dimples making a pretty appearance. Damn him.
H POV:
I’m surprised she agrees to ride home with me. I knew Y/N had a stubborn streak and giving in to my offer was new. She’d made it clear last time we saw each other that she wanted nothing to do with me. I was also curious to know where she lived, I’d only been to her office once since we’d split. And that was usually to drop off papers.
She actually answers my questions on the drive, albeit they’re one word answers, but she gives me space to talk out some theories I had. But she also disagrees with most of them, pointing out their flaws. The comfortable back-and-forth between us is bittersweet. This was why we were married once upon a time. We worked well together; after all, we’d been friends for years before dating the other. It was the friendship I missed the most when I thought about us.
When we drive up to her address, it’s a townhome in a decent part of the city. Her promotion clearly had its perks.
I leap out of the car to open her door before she could but she beats me to it, scowling at me as she realises what I was trying to do.
“So you live here?” I try to ease into a conversation, get her to open up, ask her how she was doing. But she looks at me like I’d asked a stupid question, waving her keys.
“You’re kind of dense for a detective,” she says when I raise an eyebrow. “Don’t look so shocked.”
“Forget I asked,” getting personal was useless.
“Done.” She always manages to get the last word. She climbs her steps but I follow her up. She eyes me as she finds the correct one on her key ring. “What?”
“I just-have you got anyone living with you?”
“What’s that got to do with the case?” She asks, her defenses going up.
“You’re concussed, it’s best you have someone with you for the next 24 hours like the med-”
“I’ll be fine Harry,” her sharp edges soften but still, she only opens her door wide enough to step through. I can barely see anything behind her except for a hall.
“You shouldn’t be alone,” I try again.
“Nice of you to care,” the way she says it implies a deeper meaning, one that borders on a dangerous topic.
“I’m serious Y/N, this--a concussion’s no joke. And it was traumatic what you went through you really shouldn’t-”
“I’ve been on my own for a while now, I’ll be okay.” There she goes having the last word again. I raise my hands and back off.
“If you say so. I’ll...head back to the station but if you need anything, well, you know how to reach me.”
She nods, closing the door softly behind her. I sigh, it was a whirlwind last few hours but I was just grateful Y/N was going to be okay. I know she hated me, but I still cared about her. It was hard not to. We’d known each other for over a decade, and even though I hurt her in our past, and she might not agree with me, I cared. Caring about her didn’t have an on/off switch. I only wanted her to be okay. Maybe even happy.
Y POV:
I go through the motions for the rest of the afternoon, mostly I sit zoned out in front of the window while the morning plays like a loop in my head. Something about having your life hang in the balance of a stranger’s pointer finger made it feel so fragile. It unraveled me, and I can’t focus on anything. I just keep feeling the gun on my back, and smashing against the side of my head.
I keep my head iced, and avoid screens except to send out a couple emails and to call my sister after 8 voice messages that progresses from panic after hearing the news to annoyance as I don’t respond. When she finds out Harry’s on the case she swears.
“That bastard,” I can see her face in my mind, the one where she pursues her lips like mum used to. “You should report him, conflict of interest right? It’s traumatic enough what you’ve been through, you poor thing. I was just talking to Lewis and he said I should come down to stay with you this weekend-”
“That’s really alright,” I nip the idea in the bud. I loved my sister dearly but she was an overly anxious person and I don’t think that would be helpful for me right now. “It’s just a mild concussion, the medic said I should be cleared after 24 hours so it would only be a hassle for you to come down here.”
“Alright,” she says grudgingly. “But you say the word and I’m on the first train out. And I’ll give that ex of yours an earful if he’s anywhere near you again.”
I smile at my sister’s overprotective nature, “I appreciate the offer, but I think I can manage that fine on my own.”
“That you can,” she laughs.
But when I put down the phone, the silence creeps in again. And normally I loved the quiet but like a broken record player, the voices and sounds from this morning continue to play in a loop in the silence.
I give up after 7 and start preparing for bed. But a call interrupts my nightly routine.
“Y/N,” it’s Harry. “It’s me, Harry.”
“I do have call display,” I say dryly.
“Right, I...wasn’t expecting you to pick up.”
“Is this about the case?” I was hoping he was calling to say the bastards were caught.
“Oh...not exactly. I was wondering if you’ve fed yourself. I’m in your area for work, it’s my last call. I thought I could bring you some takeout or...?”
“I was about to get ready for bed.” I reply.
“Oh. That’s early? Have you had dinner?”
I think about the pathetic cheese toast I’d managed to make. My stomach growls thinking about food, I didn’t seem to have an appetite until he’s said something. “Fine, only if you’re in my area.”
Surely, not even 10 minutes go by and by doorbell rings. Harry stands outside with a takeout bag, his pressed shirt from this morning is more rumpled with a few buttons undone.
“I parked on the street--is that alright?”
“I guess? You’re just here to drop this off.” I shrug.
“Actually I uh, I thought I’d keep you some company.”
“I...” I don’t know if I should be offended. “I don’t need company. I only agreed to the takeout.”
“I’m part of the package,” he hides the bag behind him, a smug smile on his face. I roll my eyes, it was too late to do this with him.
So I leave the door open and head inside, tightening my robe around me. Harry was part of my past and having him here, in the place I’d built myself back again, feels wrong. This was where I’d shed the identity of being a divorcee before 30, and here he was. When I turn to see why he was so quiet, I find him scanning my gallery wall and smiling at the pictures.
“Hey, I’m on here,” he points to a small group picture.
“Don’t flatter yourself,” I walk back to him to get the food. “I just looked good there.”
It was a shot from my sister’s wedding, Harry and I with the newlyweds. It was taken a few weeks before we’d made us official actually--moving from friends to lovers was maybe one of the bigger mistake I’d made in life. Another was agreeing to marry him.
“I look pretty good too,” he leans in closer. I ignore him and take the cartons of Chinese out and grab cutlery. He joins me, I hand him a beer and take a sparkling water for myself. “How’ve you been feeling?”
“Okay,” I shrug. “Just sorting through it all. Trying to avoid screens, all that.”
“That’s good,” he steals a chicken from the container I’m dumping into my plate. I eye him but he just grins, chewed food between his cheeks. I let it slide. “So you’re not supposed to sleep with a concussion or something?”
I sigh, “That’s not true, I only have a mild concussion!”
“Well I’m not a bloody doctor!”
“Thank god for that.”
“You’ll never stop doing that will you?” He rubs his chopsticks together and attempts to eat with him. “Always so snarky.”
“I can’t help it,” I continue to watch him fail with his chopsticks and pick up a fork. “It sustains me.”
“You should try being nice for once.”
“Tried it once, didn’t work out well for me. So...here I am.”
I was being passive, I knew that. He knew that with the way he eyes me over his food. He keeps quiet though, knowing there was nothing he could say in this moment to make a difference. We eat in silence until he receives a call and he leaves to take it. I clean up so by the time he gets back I’ve just loaded the dishwasher.
“I know the sleep thing’s not true for you,” Harry says as he approaches. “But I think I should stay here overnight. Just to make sure you’re-”
“No,” I cross my arms. “There’s no reason for you to stay the night Harry. I don’t need you here.”
“It’s for your peace of mind-”
“It’s for your peace of mind Harry. And frankly, I don’t care about your peace of mind. I don’t want you sleeping over, I’m not comfortable with that.”
“Y/N, c’mon! It’s not a big deal. It’s not like we didn’t sleep in the same bed for years--I’ll be sleeping on the couch! You’re not in your best shape and it’s just for a night, it’ll be like I’m not even here.”
“Don’t you have a girlfriend or something to go home to?” I ask. He shifts his gaze and shakes his head.
“Nope, my bachelor pad just me. I’ll be out of your hair in the morning.”
I dry my hands and watch him, he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I knew him well enough to recognise the wide stance, shoulders back, and jut of his chin. He wasn’t backing down.
“I don’t want to hear you, Not even a peep. I’ll make up the couch but this is the one and only time you’re wearing me down, you’re lucky I’m not in the mood to argue-”
“Promise,” he holds his hand up to his chest, a grin on his face knowing he won.
I leave him with a comfortable setup and head up to my own room. There was a spare upstairs but I don’t think I could handle him sleeping next door to me. It was weird how in just one day I’d seen more of him than I had in the last couple years and now he was sleeping in my living room like we were okay. Not like he wasn’t the man who’d broken my trust, and my heart.
As I lay awake in bed, unable to sleep as the day replays in my head, another set of memories infiltrates my mind and keeps me from sleeping. The story of Harry and I, the naive beginning, eventful middle, and heartbreaking end. My mind repeats its history and I don’t fall asleep for hours. When sleep finally comes, my dreams are haunted by the same memories.

“You’re evil,” Jisung pouted, pulling down on his oversized shirt to cover his still semi-hard on as the two of you walked down the hall. You snickered, enjoying the way he walked almost painfully.
“Sorry,” you grinned. “But it was fun, wasn’t it?”
“For you!” he cried. He leaned closer to your ear and hissed quietly, “You’re not the one who has a boner!” You quickened your pace, turning your head to throw a wink and a kiss. Jisung grumbled, awkwardly waddling faster to catch up to you. “Minx. You evil she-devil of a minx!”
“Hey, is it my fault you get horny easily?”
“Yes! It’s you, for fucks sake! Have you seen yourself?” he huffed. “You’re on my mind 24/7, do you even know how much you affect me?”
Your heart raced. You rolled your eyes and laughed him off, hoping that he wouldn’t notice your flustered expression. Scoffing playfully, you said, “Now that sounds like a you problem, doesn’t it?”
“Y/n~! Stop!” he whined.
You briefly glanced at his reddened face and sighed. “Okay, okay. Fine. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you, promise.” You were about to enter the canteen until Jisung grabbed your wrist.
“I know how you can make it up,” he said with a somewhat timid look. He took a deep breath before stating more boldly. “Go on a date with me.”
Your eyes widened in shock. “Wh-what?”
“Let’s go on a date. After school. Tonight.” Jisung stared at you with a newfound determination meanwhile your face grew hotter and hotter by the second. You stared at his reddened face, contemplating, before sighing.
“What time?”
“Oh, what? Seriously?” he gaped. “Holy shit. YES!” He threw his fists up in the air, hollering. “Oh my God, fuck yeah!”
You couldn’t help but laugh as he rejoiced, despite the slight embarrassment you felt from the scene he was causing. Putting your hands on his shoulders, you camly shushed him with a smile. “Sorry, I was just—wow. I really landed a date with the hottest person I know,” he chuckled sheepishly as he rubbed the top of his fluffy blond hair.
You giggled, moving his hand away from his head to hold it instead. “Better show up all dolled up for me, pretty boy.”
“Pff, I always look good, Y/n. What’re you talking about?” Jisung smirked, obnoxiously holding his head up high. You rolled your eyes at his playful arrogance.
“Watch it. I can change my mind anytime.”
“I know you won’t.” He brought your entwined hands up to his lips to kiss your knuckles. The rate of your heart beat increased, body tingling in adoration. Jisung smiled, letting go of your hand. “Gotta go now, I need to work on some stuff with Chan and Changbin today, but I’ll see you later, yeah?”
“Yup, see you soon!” You waved goodbye as Jisung walked away. He was only 5 steps in when he turned around and started walking backwards to speak.
“Tonight’s gonna be a surprise! Just be ready by 6, okay?” he called out.
“Okay!” You watched his retreating figure until he was halfway out of the hall. You walked happily into the canteen, thinking about your date with Jisung.
‘5:56pm’
It’s been 5 minutes since you’ve been mindlessly brushing the ends of your hair. Placing the brush back down onto your coffee table, you stood up to check your outfit on the reflection of the blackened TV screen for the umteenth time, bending down to sweep off any dust from your flowy pants. Now, you weren’t typically the type to obsess over your appearance, but tonight is certainly an exception, right? Grabbing the lip balm in your bag, you slathered on a thin layer of the sweet scented stick, smacking your lips together with a ‘pop’, and placed back inside. A notification went off from your phone. Recognizing the unique ringtone immediately, you hastily bent down to grab it.
1 new message(s) from Hannie Bear 🍯🧸
Hannie Bear 🍯🧸: im outside!
Me: Coming out now!
You rushed to the front door, grabbing your keys and switching off the lights in the living room in the process. You double checked everything in your apartment one last time before leaving.
“Hey.”
You jolted in surprise seeing Jisung leaning on the wall right in front of your door. “What the fuck, Jisung, you scared me!”
“Sorry,” he laughed, standing up straight. “I saw Hyunjin earlier and told him about our date. He looked pretty excited.”
“Yeah?” you said as you turned around to lock your door. “Is that why you were standing in front of my door like a creep?”
You giggled at Jisung’s incredulous expression. “I wouldn’t say ‘like a creep’ but yeah, he’s the reason why I found your apartment.”
“Still sounds like a creeper thing to do,” you teased. “I never told you exactly where I lived, that’s lowkey freaky.”
“Oh, uh...Sorry?”
You walked up to him, smiling at his embarrassed face. “It's okay. You’re cute so I’ll allow it.” Grabbing his hand, you led him to the elevator. “Let’s go?”
Jisung instantly smiled, walking fast so he can be the one leading you instead. “Mhm!”
Instead of driving or taking a taxi, the two of you walked. Not that you mind, at least the night was cool enough for you to not sweat. “So? Where are you taking me first?”
“Hey, didn’t I tell you tonight is a surprise?” Jisung grinned. “No questions, no doubting. Just trust me tonight.”
“Well, for all I know, you might be a murderer luring me out for my last night.”
“Please. If I was a murderer, I would’ve killed Hyunjin and Felix for stealing my cheesecake earlier.”
You snorted. “Wait, you like cheesecake?”
“Yup! And chocolate cake! God, I love those.” He looked at you excitedly. “I think it was my mom who got me into cheesecake? She isn’t the type to like sweets that much but cheesecake is the only dessert she genuinely loves.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! I remember my brother and I used to go to the store a lot to buy it for her.”
“Cute,” you giggled. You walked a few more blocks before Jisung stopped you.
“Aaand...We’re here!” You looked past him to see a small Italian restaurant. The inside looked homey, not too extravagant, with only a handful of customers inside. It had a minimalistic vibe that you very much enjoyed.
You couldn't help but chuckle. “Cheesy” you joked. “Were you hoping we would ‘Lady and the Tramp’ this?”
“Oh my God,” he gasped exaggeratedly, “that would've been so cool! But no, I heard from Minho one time that you like pasta, so I did some research and found this comfy, and more importantly, affordable place!”
“Aww,” you cooed. “You did research for me?”
“Psh, of course I did! I wanted to impress you,” he said cockily. “So, are you?”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Oh yeah, very much impressed.” You reached over to pat his leather jacket. “Especially with this sexy jacket you’re wearing.” Jisung turned bashful, fumbling with the zipper on his sleeve.
“What? Too much?” he chuckled stiffly. “Changbin actually helped me, believe it or not. He told me you’d find me irresistible if I dressed up like this.”
You took a step back to admire his outfit. From his blond hair nicely styled, to the black ripped jeans he wore that showed off his slender legs, to the runstar hike Converse he wore often. Oh yeah, this man is hot shit, you thought, biting your lip. You looked back up to seeing him fidgeting with his black mock-turtleneck with a flushed face. You giggled, gingerly placing a warm hand on his face so he could face you. “You look good, Sung,” you smiled softly, as opposed to the not-so-innocent thoughts running through your mind. “Changbin’s right, by the way. You do look irresistible.”
You grabbed his hand and dragged him inside. “But to be honest, I find you irresistible no matter what,” you winked flirtatiously, causing him to blush even more and smile giddily. You walked inside the restaurant, instantly catching the faint scent of cinnamon. Ooh Sweet… You stood near the door, waiting for a host to seat you. After 3 minutes, someone finally came by.
“Hello! I apologize for the wait, we’re just slightly short staffed tonight.”
“Felix?” you and Jisung said. Felix’s eyes widened, just realizing it was you two.
“Y/n? Jisung?” he gasped. “Hey! I didn’t know you guys were going out already.”
“We’re, well. Not official yet,” you said. “We’re still in the ‘talking’ stage, right?”
Jisung nodded, humming in agreement. “But this is still a date though.”
“Lit,” Felix cheered, fistbumping Jisung. “I’ll show you to your table now.” Your host led the both of you to the corner of the restaurant. As you sat on the chair, Felix handed you some menus.
“So my bros, I’m Felix, everybody’s favorite little freckled Aussie, and I’ll be your server for tonight.” He bowed like he would during a curtain call of a play.
“Your theatre side is coming out, Felix. Is it intermission now?” Jisung joked. You snorted while Felix rolled his eyes.
“Just give me your drinks for tonight.”
Without looking from the menu, you answered, “Water.”
“Just get me any soda you have, man. Thanks!”
“Aight. I’ll be back in 2 minutes to get your orders.” Felix walked back to the host stand to seat another set of customers. You sat in silence, skimming through your options on the menu.
“Didn’t know Felix worked here,” Jisung announced.
You shrugged. “Me neither. I guess that’s why he’s been so busy.” Another wave of silence hit the both of you. You calmly looked at the food presented on the pamphlet. However, Jisung couldn’t take the quietness.
“Remember that photography assignment you’ve been working on?” he paused, waiting for your acknowledgment. You hummed, making eye contact with him. “How is it?”
You grunted, stretching your back. “Honestly. It’s a lot harder than I thought,” you sighed. “I’ve taken countless photos already but none of them seem to resonate within me. I feel so...”
“Trapped? Blocked?”
You stared at him, the mood now oddly serious. “Yeah...Nothing seems to feel right. It’s like I’m missing something.”
“Man, I feel you,” Jisung sighed. “Lately I’ve been feeling that too. You know how many songs I’ve trashed cause they didn’t sound the way I wanted it to?”
“The life of an artist, am I right?” you joked tiredly. He nodded, patting your hand empathetically. From the corner of your eyes, you could see Felix walking back to your table. “Oh shit, Felix is coming back. Hurry up and decide what to get!”
Pain. That was all the two of you could feel.
Your head was on the table, clutching your full stomach. You looked up to see Jisung blankly staring up at the ceiling. Is he still breathing?
All of a sudden, he looked down at you, a smile beginning to form from the corners of his mouth. “You too?”
You groaned, the pain in your stomach coming back. “Why did we order so much goddamn food?”
“Go big or go home,” he weakly cried out, raising his fists up. You laughed in amusement, regretting it immediately after when your stomach started to ache again.
“Holy crap, we’re gonna die in here.”
“‘Least we’re dying happy?”
“Is—shit...A-are guys okay?” Felix asked, worriedly. The sight of your empty eyes greatly concerned him.
“Just had too much food. We’re good,” Jisung answered, giving him a thumbs up.
“Barely,” you muttered as you slowly lifted your head up.
“I wanted to ask if you guys wanted dessert but nevermind…” he eyed you both. You and Jisung made eye contact together before looking back at your friend.
“What’s the special?” you both asked simultaneously.
“Nuh uh. I’m not about to be responsible for your deaths. Go home!”
You pouted. “Come on, Felix. Don’t you love us?”
“Yeah, bro! We can take it, let’s go!”
“If I go to jail for potential homicide, I swear to God,” he sighed. “Fine. The special for tonight is a chocolate cheesecake sprinkled with shreds of Belgian chocolate.”
Both your eyes lit up. You looked back at each other as if you were speaking telepathically. Chocolate cheesecake?
“I’ll get you both only one slice!” Felix scolded. “If you guys need to puke, the restroom is down the hall behind you to your left.” Your freckled friend walked away, into the kitchen, as he glanced back at your drained forms.
“Gosh, now we’re really gonna die in here,” you whispered.
Jisung snorted as he hung his head back over the chair, “At least I’m dying with you.” You stared at his limp figure for a while before feeling the urge to take a picture. Grabbing your bag from the chair, you dug for your phone, finding it, then pulled it out. You swiped to the camera screen and took some candid photos of Jisung. “Hey, hey! Do it again!”
You looked up to see him pouting. “I know I’m handsome but if you wanted to take some pictures, you gotta tell me!” he said, sitting up and fixing his hair. You rolled your eyes, scoffing in amusement.
“Fine. Smile!”
Jisung smiled, winking as he threw up a peace sign. You took two pictures before looking up. “Okay, do something else now.” Now he pointed his index finger and thumb out, placing it under his chin. He winked again, now smiling with his teeth. Then, switching to another pose; he puffed his cheeks, hands cupping his face with his lips pursed. “One more.”
He switched from a cute pose to morphing his face into an ugly one. You laughed, “Gross!” The two of you took a couple more fun pictures together.
“Wow, I’m so handsome. Look at that,” he said. You were about to reply when you saw Felix walking back up to your table.
“Okay, bad news guys. I for real didn’t plan this, but we ran out of dessert.”
“Aww, seriously?” Jisung pouted, looking up at Felix.
He hissed, rubbing Jisung’s back. “Yeah, sorry guys. I guess chocolate cheesecake is in high demand here.”
You watched Jisung frown deepen more, slightly feeling bad. “We can go out to buy some, if you want, Sung,” you offered, holding his hand. He turned his hand so that he was able to hold it properly.
Sighing, he said whilst chuckling to lighten up his mood, “Nah. This is probably a sign for us to stop eating.” He let go of your hand, much to your dismay, and faced Felix. “It’s alright, dude. Maybe next time!”
“I feel bad,” Felix muttered. “I’ll make it up to you guys next time, promise!”
“It’s okay, Lix, it’s not your fault,” you said. “We’ll just get the check now then.”
Felix reached into his apron. “Yeah, here it is,” he said, handing you the black bill holder before walking away. “Sorry, again!”
As You were reaching for your bag to grab your wallet, Jisung stopped you. “I’m paying,” he announced. You gave him a stank look before swatting his hand away.
“I can pay too, you know?”
He refuted. “No, I’m a gentleman. That means me paying for our meal is the gentlemanly thing to do.”
“Equal rights.”
“My treat.”
The both of you tightly gripped onto the bill, death staring at one another. Neither were going to back down anytime soon. You stared hard at his face as he did the same.
“Okay, fine. Let’s compromise. We split the bill. Deal?”
Jisung hummed in thought. He was about to disagree until you pitched in. “I’ll let you pay a little extra?”
“Deal.”
You placed your split payment inside the bill holder and handed it to Felix. “Thanks guys, come back again soon!”
“Later, dude!”
“Bye, Lix!”
You walked out the restaurant, the bell on the door ringing as you left. You were about to take the path to your house until Jisung stopped you. “Park,” he whispered. “Let’s go to the park.”
You blinked, slightly off guard. “Okay…”
The walk to the park wasn’t too far, literally right across from the restaurant. It was a peaceful night, the cool breeze brushed past your bodies as you walked. Silence filled the air between the both of you; nothing but the wind and the sound of dirt crunching under your shoes was heard. The mood was...romantic. There was no one but the two of you in the area.
Your bodies brushed past one another every once in a while—more specifically, your hands. You wanted to say something when Jisung beat you to it. He shyly slid his hand into yours, watching you from the corner of his eyes, and smiled when you entwined your fingers together.
“Tonight was fun,” you said softly. You leaned closer to his body to rest your head on his shoulder. Jisung tightened his grip on your hand.
“Me too,” he whispered. “I just wish I can spend more time with you.”
“You see me everyday though?”
“Yeah, but like, I mean just you and me, alone; no one else. I—” he inhaled sharply. “I’m greedy, aren’t I?”
You looked at him confused. “What do you mean?”
“I want to be with you all the fucking time, Y/n. It hurts when I’m without you. I feel alive when we’re together. It’s like, I feel like my world would stop if I don’t see you.” You were stunned. You could only listen quietly to his rant.
“God, I sound so possessive, that’s not what I was trying to aim for,” he panicked. “I don’t care if you’re with the guys, or anyone else, I know you're not the type to pull shit like that; I trust you. I just—fuck, why is this so hard?”
He stopped walking all of a sudden and pulled you away from the path, leading you 7 feet into the trees. In any normal circumstance, you would’ve been terrified. However, this was Jisung—and you knew it, somewhere deep down, that he would never do anything to hurt you. He let go of your hand and faced you. “Jisung?”
His heart pounded erratically, he didn’t know if he was on the verge of getting a heart attack. He felt overwhelmed. Having you standing right in front of him felt like a dream. He took a deep inhale in hopes of calming himself down. “I meant what I said this morning.”
“Wh-wha…?”
“You’re in my mind 24/7, Y/n. Everyday, I always think about you to the point I’m starting to think I’m going insane. Every text, every call, every time we talk, my heart feels like it might pop out. I can’t focus and I don’t know what to do about it!” He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “Every song I’ve written was about you. Every time I look at my phone, I feel so disappointed when I don’t see a text from you.”
Jisung steps closer to you, nearly pinning you to the tree behind you. “You’re my muse, Y/n. I-I don’t really know exactly what my heart wants but all I know is that, you’re the person I want to spend my entire life with. I think…” he paused to take another deep breath. You could feel your own heart stopping, blood rushing up to your face. “I love you, Y/n!” Jisung declared loudly.
You didn’t know if the loud sound of a heart thumping was yours or his. You were stunned, happy, and scared; millions of emotions were racing within you. Not finding the proper words for yourself, you grabbed his face and kissed him. Jisung whimpered in shock, not really expecting that reaction from you. However, he quickly pulled himself together and kissed you back, wrapping his arms around your waist. You stayed like that until the burning in your chest overpowered the burn of your hearts. You both gasped heavily, taking back in the air you lost.
“You know,” your warm breath tickled his lips. “I never did take it up for the boner I gave you this morning.”
Jisung blushed, remember the embarrassment from earlier. “Yes you did? Our date is—”
“Then this is your gift.” You slowly kneeled in front of him, caressing his thighs as you went down. Jisung watched in shock.
“I—whoa. H-Here? I-in public? Y/n, that’s—”
“Do you not want this?” you looked up, wanting his confirmation. Jisung’s breath hitched, he never would’ve thought he’d be able to see you like this just yet. He bit his lip and nodded. You smiled, kissing his hip, before undoing his pants. You slowly pulled his jeans and underwear down to his knees, his cock springing up and slapping his stomach. You found yourself drooling, finally seeing his cock in person.
Jisung groaned, the cool air hitting his dick. “Fuck…” You licked your lips then took him whole, catching him off guard. He moaned, his hand now gripping onto your hair. “Holy shit, Y/n!”
You bobbed your head, hollowing your cheeks, as you pumped whatever your mouth couldn’t take in. The man above you let out heavy breaths, trying his best not to moan so loud. That was, in fact, proven to be difficult for your mouth was just heavenly. He rested his forehead onto the tree, looking down at you. Regret filled Jisung’s chest, greeted with the erotic sight of your cheeks puffed out, his cock sliding in and out of your pretty mouth. He moaned loudly into his arm. You moved your other hand to fondle his balls, causing Jisung to buck his hip into your mouth.
“Fuck baby,” he moaned. “So good—ah! F-Feels so good, shit!” He threw his head back, covering his mouth to mask his noises. His ragged breathing sounded absolutely delicious. You took his dick halfway out of your mouth, stopping right as you felt only his tip. You sucked harshly on it, tongue swirling around it until you decided to play with his slit.
Jisung roughly pulled on your hair, moaning so loud that it almost echoed through the trees. “Y-y/n…” he whimpered. You looked up to see tears brimming his eyes. You giggled, laughing even more when the vibrations from your vocal cords hit him all in the right places.
“Feels good, baby boy?” you briefly asked, immediately going back to his cock after. He nodded, pushing his hips closer to your face, almost making you choke.
“Y-yes, m-mommy.” A wave of arousal hit your core. You could feel your juices seeping right through your panties. The nickname had you moaning, much to Jisung’s pleasure as well. “Fuck! Mommy, more!”
You continued sucking and playing with the slit on his head as you pumped his shaft with one hand and groped his ball with the other. The higher Jisung’s voice raised, you knew the closer he was.
“Close, baby boy?” you giggled. He nodded, hips no fucking into your hand.
“Yes! Oh my God, I’m so fucking close, mommy!” he stuttered. “Please! Let me cum in your mouth!”
“Such a good boy, of course I’ll let you.” You attached your mouth back into his dick, moving your head once again to bring him closer to his high.
“Holy—FUCK!” Jisung moaned, his hand back onto his mouth to control his voice. His body shook as he released his creamy essence into your mouth. Your tongue swiped across his cock to lap up the rest of his juices. His and your unstable breathing was the only thing that could be heard now. Out of courtesy, you tucked him in back into his pants and stood up.
“Wh-What about you?” he asked breathlessly. You shook your head as you patted his head.
“Nevermind about me. You’ve made me happy enough,” you grinned. “When you’re okay again, we can go back home.”
“So...Is this the part where I’m supposed to kill you?” Jisung laughed breathlessly.
The dim lights of the city were nowhere near as bright as your faces. The two of you walked, hand-in-hand, as slowly as you could, in hopes of the night never ending. But alas, the both of you had a morning class the next day. Jisung walked you all the way to your apartment door, telling you it was only for ‘safety measures’. What a liar.
“Text me when you get home, okay?” You said as you unlocked your front door. Jisung grinned, pecking the hand he held.
“Of course. I’ll see you tomorrow? Make sure you get a good night’s sleep.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you playfully rolled your eyes. Letting go of his hand, you finally opened your door and stepped inside.
“Hey, Y/n?”
You turned around to face him. “Yeah?”
Jisung stood there with a smile wider than before. “I love you.”
You giggled cutely. “Me too,” you said as you walked back to him to kiss his lips. “Goodnight, baby boy.”
“Goodnight...mommy.” He laughed.
You rolled your eyes, “Hurry and go home already!” He turned around and started walking to the elevator, calling out one final ‘I love you!’ before he walked inside. It was painfully obvious that he was trying to act cool for you, but the bounce in his walk made him look like he was skipping gleefully. You laughed, walking back inside your apartment.
Inside the elevator, Jisung pulled out his phone to text someone.
Me: hey, minho?
when i finally get married to y/n...
please be our best man! :D

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you," the guests at your annual birthday gala hummed in unison as your favourite chef brought over your cake. Courtesy of your boyfriend Maxwell, it was a three tier chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and your name delicately placed on top in intricately detailed fondant.
"Maxie," you whispered, tears pooling in your eyes. You placed your hand on your boyfriend's thigh, rubbing it under the table. "This is too much. You shouldn't have."
"Anything for you, my princess," he whispered, his warm breath fanning over the shell of your ear. Leaning in further, he pressed a kiss into your lobe, before giving it a small and teasing kitten lick. You grabbed his thigh even harder, your fingernails digging into his skin and giggled at your gesture. When he pulled away, he quirked an inquisitive eyebrow, as if to ask why are you giggling? He knew fine well. "Make a wish." he mumbled as he interlocked his fingers with yours.
There was no way you could possibly wish for anything. Dating Maxwell Lord meant that you could never want for nothing. He provided you with a beautiful home, lavish and luxurious clothes and jewellery, but most importantly he provided you with his love and warmth. You closed your eyes and wished that this happiness would last forever. There was no place you'd rather be, surrounded by your family and friends on your birthday— but most importantly, with Maxwell, the love of your life.
"You kept teasing me at the table." you muttered with a joking roll of your eyes. You and Maxwell were walking along the table filled with little bites to eat. Picking at the finger food, you both filled up your plates.
"Now sweetheart, you know that wasn't teasing," he chastised with a smirk. You nodded, knowing that he could do much worse. "Teasing could be you rubbing my thigh all night, huh? Did you think about that?"
As a matter of fact you had. Maxwell looked so handsome in his three piece tuxedo. The black pants and matching Armani jacket with the white button down suited him so well, but it didn't change the fact you desperately wanted to peel off that bow tie and have him gag you with it. You supposed it could wait until you got back to your hotel suite. You didn't answer, picking up a small item of food and shoving it into his mouth. He took it willingly, but stopped to wrap his lips around your finger, sucking teasingly.
"Maxie," you groaned wantonly. "People might see." He pulled off you with a pop.
"Let them watch." he shrugged casually before picking up another piece of food to go onto his plate.
Your birthday gala was a massive success, but you had no doubt it would be. Maxwell was always the best at hosting events. Your favourite part of the night was when he held you in your arms and you slow-danced to Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis, which was one of Max's all time favourites. You rested your head into your boyfriend's chest as his arms held your waist, swinging your hips in time with the music.
"You look absolutely stunning in that dress," Maxwell growled in your ear. You recognised that lilt in his voice immediately. Leaning back, you caught a glimpse of that primal look on his face, as well as a glint of lust in his already darkened eyes. "So glad to call you mine."
His hand maneuvered round to the curve of your ass and you felt your cheeks begin to heat up as you slowly looked around the ballroom, hoping nobody had noticed Maxwell's sudden onset affection. Thankfully, they hadn't. Other couples were too busy gazing into one another's eyes, or feasting upon the buffet on the other side of the room. In a crowded room, all Maxwell could focus on was you, his drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend.
"I love you." you confessed with a happy hum.
"I love you too darling."
The night was still young but it seemed most people had taken a break from dancing, filing back to their tables to chat some more. You were making your way around all the different tables, wanting to make sure to speak to everyone and thank them for coming and bringing gifts. You slid into an unoccupied seat at the Black Gold Cooperative table, a huge smile on your face as you began talking to your old colleagues, and Max's employees.
Max approached you, holding a tired Alistair in his arms. Alistair, his son, was hugging one of your balloons tight to his chest as he fell in and out of sleep. "I'm gonna take Alistair back to our hotel room, he's exhausted," Maxwell announced and you nodded in affirmation before gently pressing a kiss into Alistair's forehead. "I won't be long." he promised before walking away.
"Mr Lord is so sweet for doing all of this for you," Raquel, Maxwell's assistant gushed.
"You know you can call him Max when he's not here." you giggled and Raquel blushed.
"Well I remember when Mr Lor- I mean Max first met you. He changed almost instantaneously. Less miserable, more polite. We all think you made him into a better person." Raquel revealed.
"Really?" you questioned, your eyes going wide at her revelation. The rest of the table nodded their heads in unison, confirming your question.
When Maxwell returned, his bow tie was slightly wonky and his hair had fallen out of it's style. You tucked a loose strand back into place. "You okay?" you pouted, letting your fingers trace the buttons on his shirt. You pulled out a chair next to you so he could sit down at the table.
"Yeah, Alistair couldn't settle so I had to sing to him," he frowned. "You should've been there," he chastised you teasingly. "You're usually the one who sings him lullabies."
You giggled, resting your head on Maxwell's shoulder. "You're such a good daddy."
Daddy— it was the word that set a fire in Maxwell's stomach and you knew it. Everytime you said it, you said it deliberately. You said it to gain a reaction out of him. You felt his body stiffen up and you watched as his hand slowly glide over his crotch, covering his hardening cock. It was crazy how just one word spoken by you could get him going. The rest of the table cooed and awed in delight at how sweet you both were, but even Max knew that your intentions were far beyond sweet. He'd been teasing you all night at your own birthday party, but two can play at that game.
Maxwell stayed silent for the next few minutes as you laughed and joked with your friends, telling them about how brilliant your birthday had been. He fidgeted awkwardly, his dark eyes watching you intently as you took small sips of your champagne and fumbled with the gold rings adorning your fingers. You were truly the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He didn't know how he had gotten so lucky.
When you were deep enough into conversation with Raquel about the brand new 1984 Polaroid camera Maxwell had gotten you, he took his chance to slide his hand up the hem of your dress. He peeled back the thin glittering sheath and drew small circles into the inside of your thigh. His actions almost took your breath away but you kept your cool, acting unfazed, like it wasn't even bothering you.
It would be okay. His hand was under the table cloth and nobody could see anyway. If he just wanted to stroke the soft skin of your legs, that was fine too. As long as you acted normal, pretending like your boyfriend wasn't touching you in front of all these people. You were doing a good job of seeming unbothered, it actually irked Max. He was doing all of this to see your reaction. He maneuvered his large, ring clad hand to the apex of your thigh, rolling the pads of his middle finger and index finger along your slick wet folds. You were evil for not wearing panties tonight. He couldn't believe how soaked you already were from just the slightest of touches, but, to be fair, you two had been teasing each other all night. His finger inched up to your clit and he began to swirl it around in tight circles.
The gasp you let out was almost inhumane and you felt your cheeks heat up. Maxwell kept working at you, trying to hide the smirk that graced his lips.
"Are you okay?" Raquel asked inquisitively.
Before you could even reply, Maxwell slid one thick finger into your aching core, doubling down until you felt his knuckles against your skin. "Y-yes," you choked out, reaching for your glass of champagne. "Think I just need a drink."
Your boyfriend continued to pump his finger in and out of you whilst sitting at the same table as his own employees. You kept taking sips of your drink to try and hide the longing moans that escaped your lips as he stretched you out. You felt wonderful around him, and he couldn't help but slip a second finger in. You made a fist, bunching up the material of your dress in your hand. When you began to feel your walls flutter around him, you knew your orgasm was approaching and that you wouldn't be able to stay quiet for him. You grabbed his wrist and shot him a knowing look. Slowly, he removed his finger from your core and you groaned at the loss of his fullness.
"Want more?" he whispered into your ear. You nodded quickly and he took your hand, whisking you away from the table and into a dark corner.
You began to palm at him through his pants, already eagerly trying to tug off his tuxedo jacket and pull off his bow tie. "C-can we go to the hotel room?" you asked, giving him your best puppy dog eyes. You pushed your body against his as his hands stroked your bare arms, relishing the moment.
"Oh honey, but Alistair's up there sleeping," Max cooed, shaking his head. You furrowed your eyebrows together in disdain.
"Maxieee," you groaned, pressing your thighs together. "But I need you."
The three words made Maxwell's cock twitch. He needed you too. He could already feel his precum begin to leak out from the tip of his manhood, staining his underwear. He looked around the ballroom. Everyone was too busy dancing and talking to notice you and Max had even left the scene. "Do you think they can see us?" he asked quizzically, his voice low as he brought his hand to your breast. He began to massage it through the thin material of your dress, giving it the occasional squeeze.
You contemplated his words. You were under a canopy, in the shadows. They probably wouldn't be able to see you from where they were standing, but if anyone approached this area, you'd soon become visible. "Right now? No, I don't think so." you hummed, weighing the scenario out in your mind. Max nodded his head in agreement before bringing his hand to your face. Under the dim light, his fingers still shone with your arousal, from when he had fingered you under the table earlier.
He brought his index finger to your lips, tracing them gently before pushing it into your mouth. You whimpered, sucking on his finger (just like he'd done to you earlier), and lapping up all your juices. Your bodies were pressed together and you began to run your knee over his erection, earning a few strangled moans from Max. "Now now Maxie, what are we going to do about this?" you hummed around his finger before he eventually pulled it away from you.
He looked around the ballroom once more, astonished that it had been a few minutes and no one had yet to see you both. He placed his hands on your hips and pressed you against the wall, unzipping his pants and pulling them down to his knees, along with his black pair of boxers. Your eyes widened when you saw how hard he already was for you, how desperate his thick cock was for your pretty little cunt. You dropped your hands to the base of his manhood and gave it a small stroke.
"Ngh— no," Max shook his head as he choked out a groan. "Just need to be inside of you." he confessed.
He pulled up your dress so it was bunched around your waist and propped up one of your legs, wrapping it around him. He pressed the blunt head of his cock against your entrance and you gasped wantonly, spreading yourself as open as you could and running your fingers through his hair.
"People might see." you whispered, grinding your pussy along his cock in desperation. He kept nudging himself against you, teasing, as always.
"You're so fucking hot," Maxwell whispered, gently pushing himself into you. His hand snapped up to your mouth, trying to silence your moans of pleasure as his thickness stretched you open. "You're so tight for me, aren't you princess?"
You couldn't even reply, and instead just nodded as the lust clouded your every thought. He doubled back before pushing himself completely into you, enjoying the way felt around his manhood. He couldn't believe how lucky he was, having you all to himself, not having to share you with anyway. He couldn't believe was fucking you in front of hundreds of guests at your own birthday gala— and you were letting him. "You- fuck, you take me so well." he praised.
"Oh Max, I don't think I'm gonna last long." you admitted, digging your fingernails into his dress shirt as he increased his speed. He was hitting that sweet spot inside of you everytime.
"I'm gonna make you cum at your own birthday party," he announced with a low, gravely chuckle. "Gonna cum around daddy's cock, aren't you princess?"
"Mm, yes daddy. Please let me cum on your cock— ah!"
You bit down on his shoulder as his hips snapped into yours and you felt your climax undo, nothing but pure satisfaction washing over you. As Max felt you quiver around him, it spurred him over the edge and he spilt ropes of his seed inside of you, painting your pretty walls.
You stayed there for a few moments, against the wall, both heaving and panting, until Max's cock eventually softened and fell out of you. He sighed, carefully dropping you back to the ground and tucking himself back into his pants. You smoothed out his hair and he used his thumb to swipe away any of your smudged makeup.
"Happy birthday princess," he mumbled, pressing a sweet kiss into your lips. "Are you ready to go back to the party?"
You nodded happily, kissing him back. "I am. I love you so much."
Maxwell took your hand and held you close, the both of you heading back into the light and walking over to the dance floor. "I love you too." he revealed as he wrapped his hands around your waist and began to slow dance with you again.

Pet (Part Four)
Masterlist
Word count: 1936
11th august 2006 Volterra, Italy
“Stay still, Dolcezza.” Dora said while she used a brush to apply some eyeshadow. “Scusa, Dora.” I said while my hands gently caressed her thighs. Dora had wanted to do my make-up before I would go and see Marcus for the evening, and currently she was straddling my lap with nothing on but a very see-through night gown, easily distracting me, my hands lightly resting on her hips, not knowing where else to place them. “Dora?” the soft voice of Caius breaks the pleasant silence between Dora and I as she works her magic on my face. “In here, my love.” she said, her face lightening up at the sound of her mate's voice. I wanted to move my head to the side so I could greet Caius but Dora grabbed my chin in her slender fingers. “No, stay still.” “I am sorry, Mistress.” I said. “Careful now, or I will keep you here for the night and Marcus can actually try and pry you away from my grip.” she said, her voice ending in a gentle growl making me shiver in pleasure. Soon I felt strong arms wrap themselves around my waist and a chin resting carefully on my shoulder. “Buonasera amore mio, bambina. Has she behaved today, Dora?” Caius asked, his voice low and husk. Dora smirked softly and leant forward to gently peck her husband's lips. “Yes, she has been a good little principessa. So, she will be treated like one for now.” her lips moved to my forehead and pressing a gentle kiss to it, making me blush. “That is very good. I love it when you behave well and we can treat you, bambina.” Caius whispered in my ear before gently placing his lips against the side of my neck where Marcus’ bitemark resided. Overall, the Masters and Mistresses left their bitemarks on my neck and shoulders while the three elite guard members stuck to my wrists. But that didn’t mean they didn't occasionally bit over each other's bitemarks when their instincts took over for the most part, or just to annoy one of the others. A small smile played around my lips while Dora put the finishing touches on my face. She put the brush down and let her fingers gently move down my cheek. “Sei bellisima, Dolcezza.” she whispered. “Si lo è, amore mio.” Caius agreed as he moved his arms from me to stand behind his wife, taking in her artwork on my face. I blushed deeply. “Grazie, Master, Mistress.” I whispered while looking down at my hands. “It is only because I value my brother's happiness that I will let you go from our grasp tonight, bambina. Or else we would have kept you here and ravished you until the sun came up come morning.” Caius whispered as he gently made me look at him, the look of a predator in his eyes making me blush even further. I looked back down at my outfit which was a simple evening gown in a deep red colour, my shoulders completely bare and the skirt was just above my feet to make sure I didn't trip over it. It was one of Dora's many, many gowns. Dora sighed and slowly got off my lap and gently pulled me up by my arms, helping me stand steadily on the new, deep red heels that accompanied the gown beautifully. My hair was being held up by a single, large and heavy silver clasp that was decorated by very expensive looking gems. “Hmm,” Caius said as he approached me. His fingers lightly traced my collar and he spoke very fast to Dora in what I assumed was ancient Greek. Dora giggled and seemed to agree to what he was saying making Caius smirk. “Very well, bambina. Off you go.” Caius said after a few seconds more before taking a step back to stand next to his wife again, wrapping an arm around her waist. I gently bowed my head to them and slowly left their chambers, careful as to not trip over the heels nor my dress.
It took me about 10 minutes to leave Caius and Dora's chambers and enter Marcus’. I slowly made my way down the long hallway to the very last room opposite to the entrance door. My heels clicked loudly against the stone floor and my heart was beating in anticipation. Once I reached the door, I gently patted down any non-existing creases before gently knocking. The door was quickly opened by none other than Marcus. His appearance taking my breath away. He was wearing a full suit, apart from the jacket and the sleeves of his black dress shirt were rolled up. His dress shoes shimmered in the candlelight coming from his bedroom and his red tie was still neatly tied around his neck accompanied by his Volturi crest that all the kings and queens wore. It was made of pure gold, like the crest of the higher guard. The only difference was the stone at the bottom. Each King had their own colour diamond in them. And every diamond had their own meaning. Marcus had a blue diamond that stood for peace, truth, devotion and eternity. Peace and truth for his place as judge, jury and executioner. Between the three brothers he was the most peaceful and always sharing the truth, how painful it might be. Devotion and eternity were for his loyalty to his coven and their cause, keeping the vampire world safe with enough humans to sustain them for all eternity while they reign. Marcus smiled at me, his smile even reaching his usual sad eyes. “Cara mia! I was slowly getting worried that my brother and sister had claimed your attention for yet another evening.” he said as he held his hand out for me. I smiled and gently placed my warm hand into his cool one. “I am sorry for making you worry and wait, Master. That was not my intention.” I said while Marcus pulled me towards him and into his bedroom, closing the doors behind him. He gently nuzzled his face in my neck taking in my scent. “I forgive you, cara. Although, it is not your fault that we like to revel in your presence.” his lips gently pressed themselves against the bitemark he left the first time he had been buried deeply within me. The memory, I was sure of it, would forever remain with me and send shivers down my spine in delight. “To lose ourselves in your scent and your love.” his lips moved upwards to my ear while he spoke. “Even the slightest touch of your fingers can make any man or woman long for more, not to mention what those lips can do.” he finished before gently claiming my lips, as if to prove what he just told me. The touch of his lips against mine alone was enough to make me sigh in pleasure. It wasn't a kiss full of lust nor need. It was a simple kiss, one that made my head spin a bit and yet made me long for more. Marcus pulled away after a few seconds, resting his forehead against mine for a few seconds longer and finally pulled his face away from mine. “Well then. I have a few things I would like to see your improvements in.” he stated, his voice becoming very serious, yet a playful glint remained in his eyes. “First off I would like to talk about your dance lessons. I do hope Demetri, Felix and Heidi helped you out in that aspect while in the ballroom. And I mean dances such as the waltz or any other form of dance that would be appropriate in company. I am not talking about, according to what Aro told me, what you like to call the ‘Devil's Tango’.” A deep red blush spread over my cheeks as he mentions this and at the same time remembering all my dance lessons with the three higher guards. “I am well aware you have practised that specific dance with the three of them on multiple occasions. The broken mirrors and furniture are proof of that.” and if possible, an even deeper shade of red coloured my cheeks now at the memory. “But I want to see if you improved on your other dances as well. Did you practice?” he asked as he gently stroked my heated cheeks. “Yes Master.” I said, gently biting my lip and trying to calm my heart down. “Good.” he said before his grip on my loosened and he made his way to a large stereo in the corner of
the room. Soft music came through the speakers once he pressed certain buttons and in the blink of an eye his left arm had wrapped itself around my waist while his right hand held my left one in a very careful way. I bit my lip and placed my hand on his shoulder, trying to not get distracted by the hard body I felt as he pressed me close against him. His, nowadays, piercing red eyes bore into my green ones. “Let us see how much you improved, shall we?” he asked and before I could answer his question, had he started his dance, gently guiding me across the room gracefully. I tried to keep up but my human body could not be as graceful as his vampire body, yet he didn't seem to care as he floated in circles, me close to his body and his eyes never leaving mine. After a few minutes the song came to an end and Marcus let go of my hand only to place it behind my head as he dipped me down on the final tune. I was panting slightly from the exercise and the excitement of having this godlike creature float me around the room as in a dream. Marcus had a playful grin around his lips before he gently pecked my lips and pulling me upwards again, helping me to regain my balance. “You are getting much better, Cara. Well done.” he said while gently stroking my cheek. Finally, my breath had calmed down and a small yet very proud smile crept onto my face. “Thank you, Master.” “Now for the other lessons I have been teaching you.” his hand slowly travelled from my cheek upwards towards the back of my head. His fingers gently opened the silver clasp that held my hair together and removed it, letting my long, brown locks fall down in waves. “I want to test your restraint once more, Cara.” his face slowly moved forwards until it was deeply buried in my neck and hair while his hands made their way towards the laces of the corset body on my gown. “Tonight, I will not tie you up. Nor will I blindfold you.” he whispered while his fingers skilfully undid the knot that kept the laces together. “However, you are not allowed to touch.” another pull at the laces, loosening the corset. “And you must keep your eyes closed at all times. Unless I tell you otherwise.” he carefully pulled the body of my dress apart, completely loosening the dress from my body. “Show me what a good little pet you are, Cara mia.” he released the dress making it flow down to the ground, leaving me in nothing but my heels. Dora had insisted on me not wearing any undergarments. A bra wasn't needed thanks to the corset of the body part of the dress and according to her, panties where nothing but a nuisance anyway. “Yes Master.”

Your Call
Requested: 👍
Summary/Request: Can you write about Freddie and his girl being long distance and just the ups and downs of that I guess? If you could make it smutty that would be cool too 😍
Warning: soft/fluffy smut as requested, some angst obviously, some fluff
Author’s Note: Alright! I’ve pretty much locked myself in my room for the weekend because my mom has a conference and the weather is SHITTY so I can’t do stuff outside. So, that means we get to see how many of these requests I can get done. I’m not entirely sure if this is as angsty as you might have wanted, anon, because it doesn’t delve too deep into the “ups and downs” and it is pretty short but I still hope you enjoy it! Stay Golden, loves! <3

“I don’t want you to leave” you whined as Freddie packed his bag to go on a two week road trip
“I know babe,” he sighed, “but I’ll be back before you know it and we’ll talk every chance I get. Like we always do when I go out of town”
“I hate it”
“I hate it, too, love” he said before kissing your forehead and hugging you close. You pulled out a sweater from his bag before he could zip it up and kept it close to your chest, “(Y/N), come on,“ he laughed, “I have to go...”
“You don’t need this sweater” you tried to bargain, as if this sweater was the thing that was going to get him to stay
“You’re right,” he smirked, “I don’t” he made his way downstairs toward the door, throwing his bag by the door before grabbing a glass of water from the kitchen
“UGH!” you groaned as you clambered down the stairs
“Babe, elske,” he chuckled, “it’s only two weeks”
“BUT THAT’S FOREVER!” you groaned again, “what if I want you? What if I need you?”
“That’s what this is for” he smirked, circling behind you so you fell against his chest as he showed you a video on his phone. The room was soon filled with moaning and heavy breathing as you watched Freddie thrust into you on his small phone screen
“FREDDIE!” you shouted, pushing the phone away, “when did you record this? How did I not know you were recording this?”
“I’m very sneaky”
“I’m not sure I know how to feel about that” he kissed your temple and whispered in your ear
“This way we’ll have each other when we feel that need”
“You think of everything, don’t you?” you turned around, wrapping your arms around his neck and playing with his hair. He leaned in but didn’t connect his lips with yours, instead he sighed and his breath brushed across your skin, “what?” you asked
“I have to be on the plane in twenty minutes”
“Don’t go” you whined
“I have to...” you finally let him go but hated it the instant you closed the door. He made sure to send you had the video and you found yourself watching it on repeat for almost an hour
“We’re very good at this,” you giggled, tilting your head slightly, “he’s soooo good at that...” When you finally stopped watching the video, you were unnecessarily out of breath and you felt like your whole body was on fire but as the days drew on, you were starting to feel his absence.
“Hey,” your friend, Kaycee, called as she walked in through your front door, “where you at?”
“I’m in the kitchen!” you called back, turning around just as she walked into the room
“Have you seen this?” she cut right to the point, something she was known to do when there was something on her mind
“Hello to you to, Kaycee,” you laughed, “have I seen what?”
“When was the last time you talked to Freddie?” she asked and you furrowed your brow before sitting at the kitchen island
“Uhmm.. last night?” you replied, “yeah, last night before bed, why?”
“What time was that?”
“I don’t know.. it was before bed. What’s going on?”
“You haven’t talked to him today?” she continued
“KAYCEE!” you laughed
“THERE’S A PICTURE!” she yelled as if she was trying to rip off the band-aid
“Alright,” you said, “what’s the picture?”
“Freddie...” she started to explain but decided to just hand you her phone instead. The picture wasn’t much to look at, nothing scandalous, just Freddie in a rental car, outside of his hotel -- which was enough to confuse you on its own -- but when you examined it a little more, you noticed that it was fairly early in the morning and there was a girl getting into his car; a girl you didn’t recognize.
“What is this?” you scoffed uncomfortably
“No one knows who she is or, at least,” she added, “they haven’t been able to identify her because of her mask”
“Maybe it’s not what it looks like”
“Or maybe it’s exactly what it looks like...”
“Look, Kaycee, I trust Freddie, so whatever it going on here,” you replied, sliding her phone back to her, “doesn’t matter. It doesn’t mean anything...”
“If you say so” she said passively, as if she didn’t believe you and, honestly, it was hard not to think that something else was going on but you did trust Freddie. You just hoped that was enough.
xx
Freddie’s P.O.V
It had only been a couple days but you were already missing (Y/N) and the way she nibbled on your ear to wake you up in the morning or the way she moaned when you trailed your finger down her neck; you had watched that video so many times that you’d practically timed how long it would take you to get off just from hearing it.
“(Y/N)” you whispered into your phone on the plane so the guys wouldn’t hear you
“Freddie? Why are you whispering?” she grumbled on the other line
“What are you wearing?” you asked
“What?”
“I don’t think the video was enough. I’ve watched it too many times for it to really be effective at this point, so...” he added, “what are you wearing?”
“Who was that girl...?” she asked suddenly, taking you by surprise
“What girl?” you stopped whispering
“The girl outside the hotel. Getting into your car...”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about”
“The internet never sleeps, Fred”
“I seriously don’t know what you’re talking about”
“Someone saw you picking up a girl outside your hotel, in Edmonton, and they showed it to me,” she said angrily, “because of course they did”
“She’s on staff. Her car broke down but we were going to the same place so I offered to give her a ride” you defended
“That’s it?” she replied and you could tell she didn’t believe you
“Why would I hookup with some random girl outside of a hotel when I have you? Whose call I look forward to every night, whose face pops into my head all the time, whose breasts I want to message right now, whose lips I want to kiss every second, every minute of every day?” you rambled
“I hate this” she whined
“What?” you asked
“Being away from you,” she groaned, “you being away from me”
“I do, too, but it’s only one more week”
“It’s still more than a week”
“Only by a couple of days”
“Please, don’t pick up any more girls outside of your hotel, okay?” she pleaded and you assured her before hanging up. You sat back in your seat and sighed, imagining what she might be doing now that you’d woken her up, but hating that she was having all these thoughts rolling around her head that you couldn’t ease with a kiss or four.
xx
After you’d accused Freddie of cheating on you, the two of you spoke every second of his free time and every night until both of you fell asleep. You hated being apart, the long nights alone in the big, quiet house but you knew it was part of his life when you started dating him, so the lonely feeling was inevitable; still, every time it came around, you hated it more and more. He always managed to keep your mind at ease though, telling jokes or stories about the guys and making sure you knew how much he wanted you when he finally got home and you’d try your best to send him sexy voice notes or the occasional snap of you in his favourite t-shirt. The last few days felt like forever and you found yourself pacing between the upper and lower levels of the apartment, opening the door every once in a while when you thought you heard someone in the hallway
“Where are you, baby?” you mumbled to yourself. You cleaned, you organized, you poured yourself a glass of wine and he still wasn’t there; you huffed in frustration as your marched upstairs to put on some sexy lingerie for whenever he finally walked through that door.
“Elske?” he shouted as he came in
“Shit” you whispered to yourself, fumbling with the lace teddy that you had started to put on, “shit” you repeated, his footsteps moving through the apartment quickly
“(Y/N)?” he called again and you positioned yourself on the bed just in time
“Hi” you said when he opened the bedroom door
“There you are” he smiled, making his way toward you and peeling his jacket off on the way
“Here I am” you giggled, trying not to feel silly while trying to act sexy
“Hi baby” he repeated, circling the bed until he could climb on top of you
“I missed you” you whispered, gripping his sides to feel his body underneath his shirt
“I missed you, too” he smiled before pressing his lips to yours. Your hands moved gently to undo the buttons on his shirt without breaking the kiss, untucking the fabric from his pants before removing it from his body; caressing his skin with your fingertips as his body pressed closer to yours
“Freddie” you breathed when he kissed down your jawline and neck before his hands wrapped around your back to pull you up
“You look beautiful” he said seductively, a growl to his tone
“I wanted to wear something nice for when you got home”
“I’m glad you did,” he smirked, “but why don’t we take it off?” he stepped back off the bed and pulled you, by your legs, close to him and he gently pulled the teddy off you; removing his black dress pants when you were completely naked
“Should I just make sure I’m like this next time you come home?” you teased but he nodded in return, climbing over you once more, his already hardened cock pressing against your thigh as he leaned down to kiss you
“Yeah,” he smiled against your lips, “cut right to the chase” you giggled before he went back to kissing you. Your hands traced down his body before wrapping around his waist, pushing his hips into yours as he licked your nipple
“Fuck me, baby” you moaned into his shoulder and he smirked at you in response, licking his finger before moving his hand to your centre; rubbing your clit as he prepared to thrust into you. You moaned breathlessly, continuing to push him into you by the small of his back and arching your back to keep the space closed between you. Freddie pressed soft kisses to your neck to match his slow thrusts, moaning deeply as your hands moved across his body, stationing themselves on his sides.
“Fuuckk” he growled, hips stuttering as you pulled his hips even closer to yours; creating too much friction to bear.
xx
Freddie’s P.O.V
She moaned into your ear as she forced your hips to grind into hers. A moan you always missed when you were away.
“Freddie” she breathed, arching her back more than she already had, the crown of her head the only thing touching the mattress but still it wasn’t enough. You kissed her neck before whispering for her to turn around; she kissed your neck in return, groaning at your request, “fuck me” she pleaded.
“Turn around” you repeated lowly and she obliged. You pulled her hips to yours before pushing into her, eliciting a near breathless scream
“Shit” she said between laboured breaths and you pulled her up, holding her arms tightly by her side as your pace increased. The room fell silent for a second as she tried to contain her pleasure but, with one hard thrust, her scream filled the space in front of her. You let go of her arms so you could pull her face to yours, kissing her lips harshly as you breathed into her mouth, grabbing her breast with your free hand
“Fuck,” you moaned, “fuck, baby you feel so good”
“Fuck me, Freddie” she smirked back as your hand circled her throat, kissing her temple before letting her fall onto her hands; your hand slipping off her throat and moving to her hips. Your pace increased until the only sound in the room was skin slapping against skin and raspy moans
“Fuck” you panted
“Fu—” she started but the sound was cut off while you fucked her deeper. “I’m cumming, Freddie,” she finally cried out, pushing back into your hips, “fuck baby, make me cum”
“Cum for me, (Y/N)”
“Fuck” she moaned before dropping onto the mattress, letting her arms go limp. Once you reached your climax, you turned her over and kissed her lips, making your way down her body until reaching her core; every move you made against her clit made her legs shake, letting you know that she was on the verge of her orgasm. “Fuck, Freddie, mmm, fuck” she cursed as your tongue circled her clit and your finger curled inside her. Her thighs flexed and tightened around your head as she lifted her back to increase the friction, “oh god, oh god, oh fuck, oh shit, fuck, Freddie, baby right there” you continued your ministrations, her legs locking you in place until she found her release, laughing as she waited for you to lay beside her. “Hey,” she called when you walked away from her, “where are you going?”
“I’ll be right back” you laughed, grabbing a cloth from the bathroom and dampening it before you brought it back to her, wiping her clean before kissing up her body and dropping beside her. She exhaled deeply before turning her body to yours, “hey” you said
“Have I ever told you that you’re like really good at that?” she smirked
“Thanks” you teased and she gasped sarcastically
“Hey!” she giggled
“I’m not nearly as good as you though” you replied
“Thank you” she said proudly
“I missed this”
“I missed this, too”
“I missed you” she smiled as you kissed your forehead
“So don’t leave again” she teased
“Ahh but see,” you joked, “the sex is so much better when we’re apart first” she laughed in return before laying a gentle kiss to your lips
“I love you” she cooed
“I love you, too”
“I hate long distance. Please don’t leave again” she repeated
“It’s my job, I have to,” you sighed, tracing her skin with your fingers, “but we’ll be able to do this again”
“And better” she added before curling into your side and you wrapped a blanket around the two of you, falling asleep shortly after. You had to admit, sometimes you hated your job too, knowing that you had to leave her but coming back always made it worth it.

Hello! Could you do this one :
192 - You make me feel alive. For the first time ever, I feel like I can breathe.
Thanks ☺☺
192. You make me feel alive. For the first time ever, I feel like I can breathe.
“My, you’ve grown so tall and handsome, Katsuki! I can barely recognize you!”
Bakugou shrugs stiffly, hands deeply shoved in his pockets. “..Evenin’, Auntie.”
“Hurry, hurry!” Inko quickly beckons him inside the apartment, with frantic hand motions. “The cold air will get you sick the longer you stand out there.”
After a few tentative steps inside, and offering a mumbled pardon of intrusion, Bakugou makes a look around the small home.
God, everything looked eerily the damn same.
The miniature sofa, the kotatsu, the TV airing the local news, the rickety old dining table, in the same faded wood color just like before. The kitchen, probably looks the same, too.
Nothing new.
And, oddly enough, Bakugou was glad. Familiarity was very much needed, right now.
“Let me take your coat, dear.” Inko shushes quietly, right beside him. When Bakugou twists his head down, he looks to see her offering a soft smile.
Something in his chest clenches. “Nah, s’fine.” He coughs, struggling to meet her gaze. “..We’ll be leaving soon, anyway.”
“You know, that’s what you always told me, back when you two were kids.” Inko voices gently, “Waiting at the front door. Ready to head out, as soon as Izuku stepped out.”
“It warms my heart to see you two together.” She says, gazing at him, with that same comforting expression she used to give him long ago.
The inside of his palms are damp, sweating nervously. All he can offer is a quick nod of acknowledgment, without losing his cool in front of her.
Sure, they weren’t close before, but Inko only remembers him as that child. The one that was her son’s best friend. The one that knocked at her front door, jumping in his sneakers excitedly. The little boy who guided her son out of her home, and brought him back, safe and sound.
And, the same guy who was once the source of all of her beloved son’s distress, turmoil, and torment.
He hopes Midoriya has told her redeeming things about him, now that she knows that part. Because, there’s no way in hell he can sell himself any better.
A door to the right of the hallway opens in that instant.
With his back turned away from them, Midoriya steps out in an obnoxious All Might pajama set, barefooted.
He’s holding up two sweaters, dangling from each hand. “Mom!” He calls out towards the dining room, “Which one looks better? Yellow or red?”
“I can’t tell, Izuku.” Inko states easily, “Turn around.”
Doing a double take, Midoriya pivots in his stance, almost tripping over the long pants. “Oh, when did you get behind-?”
Midoriya’s face drops, before the shirts hit the floor.
Bakugou snorts, while Inko intently gazes at the fallen clothing. “I would think the burgundy one would look wonderful, sweetie.” She advises, regardless.
Quickly, Midoriya gathers and shoves his sweaters in his arms, and hurries back into his room, slamming the door shut. The click of a lock echoes, alongside a bunch of stressed, inaudible words.
“..You sure you don’t want me to take your coat?” Inko asks him. This time, there’s a knowing, small teasing expression on her face. “Izuku might take a while longer.”
Bakugou doesn’t wait for long, seated under the warming kotatsu. His drums his fingers on his thighs, here and there. And, the heat does get a little stuffy, while wearing black jeans and a turtleneck.
But, otherwise, it’s not intolerable. Inko had offered him plenty, during his wait; a hot mug of ginger and cinnamon tea, a small plate of cookie biscuits, and her silent, yet welcoming company. She even insisted on covering his shoulders with a large blanket, engulfing him completely.
“Anything for you.” Inko reassures him, despite having not voiced anything. “You have done so much to keep Izuku happy. It’s the least I can do.”
The overbearing politeness runs in the family, like a disease.
He feels he should thank her, or better yet, try to have a conversation with her. But, each time he builds up the internal guts to say something, the words get caught in his throat.
He wants to make sure he says the right thing to Midoriya’s mother. Unfortunately, he desperately wants her approval.
So, when Midoriya finally walks around the corner, in a nice pair of jeans and that same burgundy sweater from before, Bakugou’s relieved to say the least.
He feels saved.
“Now, the night is only getting colder, by the minute.” Inko hurriedly tells them, as the three of them walk to the front door, “This winter season has been terribly freezing! My heart can’t handle either of you catching the flu, let alone both of you! So, try to make it home not only safe, but healthy. Oh, and if you are unable to catch the last train, please let me know! I will gladly-”
“It’s okay.” Midoriya reassures her, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Mom. We’ll be okay.”
“I know, I know. Just please-”
“Call you when we’re on our way home.” Midoriya answers easily. “Yeah, I will.”
“..You promise?”
“I promise, Mom.”
They share a sweet, long embrace, which Bakugou can’t help, but look away.
Something about their close bond, and unashamed love for each other feels intrusive for him to be a part of.
Something that he doesn’t deserve to be a part of. At least, not yet.
Instead, he solely focuses on readjusting his winter coat over his shoulders.
On their languid walk towards the metro station, a few blocks away from the apartment complex, Midoriya slips his hand in his.
“You told me 20:00, Kacchan.” He whines, however.
Bakugou rolls his eyes. “It was.” He corrects in a huff, “Until you fucking said I could drop by an hour early.”
“Wha—? When did I say that?”
“During our damn lunch break, yesterday.” Bakugou incredulously stares at him. “The hell? You were the one who came up to me and literally said it yourself. How your conference for today with the academy got cancelled. ”
For a moment too long, Midoriya stays silent, visibly mulling over the words in his head. Each quiet second makes Bakugou more internally baffled, downright shocked.
If it weren’t for Midoriya’s warm hand loosely holding onto him, he’d crackle a couple explosions, in spite.
“Oh. I did.” Midoriya breathes out laughing, bringing his other hand to his face. “I completely forgot.”
“Shitty Deku.” Bakugou grunts. “Starting the night off wrong, already?”
“Hey! Don’t go making me feel bad, Kacchan!” With pleading eyes, Midoriya looks up at him. “I didn’t mean to forget. School’s been hectic recently, and you know that.”
Those huge, bright green eyes. His kryptonite.
Bakugou clicks his tongue. “..Whatever. S’not like the wait was awful.”
“Oh god, I hope my mom wasn’t too much with you.” Midoriya messes with Bakugou’s fingers in between his, tightening and letting go of them.
“Not at all.” Bakugou lies.
Smiling, Midoriya lets out a big sigh of relief. “Thank goodness. If you two didn’t get along tonight, I might have had an aneurysm.”
“If you had to choose—” Bakugou starts.
Midoriya narrows his eyes. “Stop it.”
Bakugou scoffs, slipping out an air of mirth into it. “Obviously your mom.”
“Obviously, it would be too hard of a decision to make.” Midoriya corrects. “Hopefully that time never, ever, ever comes.”
Despite trying not to smile, Bakugou feels the traces of a smirk on the corners of his lips. “If that day ever happens, always pick Auntie.” He states easily, “Her heartbreak would be so fucking intense. Put all natural disasters to damn shame.”
With a small, slipped out laugh, Midoriya bumps their shoulders together, softened by their winter coats. “You are weirdly making sense, Kacchan.”
“Of course I’m making fucking sense. She cries over the thought of someone taking you away. Villain, or not.”
“Every mother is like that!”
“Hell, I’m damn surprised Auntie didn’t flip her shit from seeing me.” Bakugou honestly confesses finally, more to himself than to Midoriya. “Dating her one and only son, and she didn’t even freak out about it.”
And, just like that, Bakugou knows something is wrong, from the moment Midoriya stays quiet.
They continue to walk, despite the sudden tense mood between them. But, that doesn’t mean Bakugou doesn’t want to demand Midoriya to speak up, the longer he keeps his mouth shut.
But also, he doesn’t want to ruin their night, and so, he waits begrudgingly.
Right as the two are on the outskirts of the metro tunnel, Midoriya twiddles Bakugou’s fingers nervously.
“..I haven’t told her about us yet,” He admits, face morphed in guilt. “But, I mean, she could very easily guess our intentions tonight. So, maybe— I don’t know —she might know.”
Bakugou hums, allowing himself a few seconds to process that. He then breathes a long air through his nose. “..I figured.” He simply says.
“It’s not like I want to hide us.” Midoriya voices aloud, furrowing his brows. “It’s just with graduation coming up, and the academy still looking for an agency to accept me as anything, and then my father suddenly wanting to come back into our lives, she’s just been a little stressed with everything going on, including myself. And, I don’t want to potentially ruin us and-”
With a tight grip, Bakugou halts them to a sudden stop.
When Midoriya worriedly gazes at him, he offers him back a nod. “Yeah, I get it.” Bakugou firmly states.
“Kacchan, I-”
“You’re fine. Don’t worry about it.”
And, he really means it.
While people bypass them, heading through the automatic doors of the metro station, they both remain standing, staring back at each other.
The first to break is Midoriya, releasing a big, tired sigh. “You’re right.” He frowns, looking away. “I’m totally ruining this date night. I’m sorry.”
Pulling his hand out of the hold, Bakugou instead brings his arms over Midoriya’s shoulders. He hugs them close. “No, you’re not.”
“I am.” Midoriya responds backs, muffled.
“We’ve been on more shit dates, Deku.” Bakugou tells him in his ear. “And, this ain’t one. It barely even began.”
“A whole year, and I—I haven’t even told her.” Midoriya shakingly admits. “I’m such a coward.”
Bakugou huffs. “You’re not. The talk ain’t easy. Hell, telling my hag and old man about us was like pulling teeth out of my damn mouth.”
“..At least you told them.”
“Listen, you went through a lot of shit, two years ago.” Bakugou reminds Midoriya, bluntly. “The running away. The dropping out. The undercover work. The public hate. Getting together after all fucking that, probably wasn’t even the best move.”
“I still remember it all.” Midoriya mumbles.
Bakugou tightens his hug. “And, since then, life’s been a total bitch to you. I fucking wish you didn’t get half the crap you have to deal with, because it runs you into a damn mess.”
“But, I—”
“So, just focus on the important shit, right now.” Bakugou breathes out, pressing his head against Midoriya’s. “Us? We can wait. No, I can wait. I’ll be right beside you, until then, and even after that.”
Lifting his arms up and around Bakugou’s back, Midoriya holds onto him, just as tight as him. “..You promise?”
Bakugou exhales a short sigh. “I promise, Izuku. We’ll be okay.”
Letting go, Midoriya gently pushes away from Bakugou’s grip, causing them to finally part, for who knows how long.
Before the secondhand embarrassment of people witnessing them sinks into his pride, Bakugou’s redirected to the watery eyes of Midoriya, as he quickly blinks them dry.
“God, when did you get so—?” Midoriya wildly moves his hands around, gesturing over at Bakugou.
On the other hand, Bakugou scrunches his nose. “The hell does that mean?”
“So supportive?” Immediately, Midoriya shakes his head. “No, you’ve been supportive, that’s not the right word. So kind? Uh, that doesn’t sound right..”
“You mean romantic.” Bakugou puts it bluntly.
A rush of red floods Midoriya’s face, matching his sweater and shoes. “Don’t say it so loud, Kacchan!”
“I wouldn’t have to, if you weren’t asking dumb ass questions!” Bakugou yells back, crossing his arms definitively. “We’re together, Deku! Of course I’m gonna tell you fucking sappy shit.”
“Shh! You are making us be a public scene!”
“Too late! We were a public scene the fucking moment we stopped in front of the damn metro like stupid lovers at the altar!”
It starts slow, with nothing, but Midoriya blinking up at him.
But then, a slipped sputter starts and a bubbling laughter erupts from Midoriya. He grabs onto Bakugou’s arm, helping him from not bending over in giggles.
“W-We really did!” Midoriya barely says, wheezing, “Lovers at an altar. A-And, you literally gave me vows!”
It takes Bakugou forcibly grabbing his idiotic, cackling boyfriend to finally move aside, and walk through the station’s entrance. He refuses to focus too much on the fire heating his face.
He’s never making outlandish, romantic gestures in public, ever again.
They missed their train, obvious from the lengthy moment they had outside. But, neither of them were upset about the ordeal. Instead, they gradly bought tickets for the next train to Tokyo, with only a thirty minute wait.
As Bakugou starts to shift comfortably in his bench seat, right beside him, Midoriya rests his head on top of his shoulder. “Thankfully, we still won’t miss the movie premiere.”
“Because your weird ass is making us leave hours before midnight.”
“For situations like these!”
Bakugou scoffs a short laugh. “I guess it’s reasonable.”
Grabbing his hand into a loose grip, Midoriya twiddles with Bakugou’s fingers once more. “Thank you. For tonight.” Midoriya whispers.
“You needed time to chill the fuck out. With the shit you’ve been facing, let tonight be the night you forget about it.” Bakugou grumbles, “Besides, I haven’t been able to steal you away, for my damn self.” He tacks on.
Midoriya smiles back at him, head comfortably slumped on his shoulder. “You make me feel alive, again. And, for the first time ever, since the start of this year,” He sighs, longingly up at Bakugou, “I feel like I can breathe.”
Bakugou brings him closer, chin tucked in his curls. “Good. I need you to breathe, at least once and a fucking while.”
Midoriya snorts. “Just at least once?”
“And, a fucking while.” Bakugou reiterates, “I’m not a monster.”
“No, you’re not.” Midoriya chuckles, bringing his legs over Bakugou’s lap. “You’re my monstrous boyfriend.”
“That’s fucking right.”
For a while, they stay just like that; close, intimate, and stuck together, without a care of the outside world. Maybe it’s from the intense conversation from earlier, but Bakugou doesn’t feel deterred to back away. Instead, he feels comfortable in holding Midoriya, and not letting go.
“You know,” Midoriya starts, “My mom wouldn’t freak out.”
Bakugou raises a brow. “..Hm?”
“About us. She wouldn’t freak or flip out like that.”
“C’mon, Deku.” Bakugou scoffs, shaking his head. “You don’t gotta lie to me, now.”
“I’m serious.” Midoriya reaffirms strongly, emphasizing his words with a tightened grasp around his hand. “She wouldn’t.”
“I’m not the type of guy you bring to your damn family. Seeing me as anyone’s partner is like fucking failing at life.”
Midoriya brings a tentative hand, cupping the side of Bakugou’s face. His fingertips are rough, yet linger there softly. “Just promise her you’ll make me happy and keep me safe.” Midoriya states easily, smiling brightly. “And, she’ll welcome you with open arms, all over again.”

As you can see, I’m ALREADY pepped for
✨Kauri with sick jake✨
So don’t worry about that
Honestly, this is for @eatyourdamnpears and everyone else encouraging my silly whims
CW: Description of migraine visual aura, migraine, sick whumpee, some consensual spice refs/flirting at the end
It starts as a dot in the center of his vision, a bit of gray he can’t quite see around. Jake frowns, closes one eye and then the other, but it’s there in both of them when he tries to look at the clock on the oven. He checks his text messages and there it is, little gray dot, making it... not impossible, but difficult to read the message.
“What are you doing?” Kauri asks the question from the doorway, standing with his shoulder leaning on the frame and his arms crossed in front of himself, wearing nothing but one of Jake’s shirts, hanging off his frame in a way that somehow makes him seem more graceful, not less.
“Go get pants on before Ant comes down and blacks out from blushing so hard,” Jake says, voice still upbeat, but... is the spot getting bigger?
He picks up his phone and types in ‘signs of seizure’ into Google.
Nope.
‘Sudden changes in vision.’
Oh, well, the potential answers to that one are definitely fucking terrifying.
How about... ‘gray dot in center of eye’.
“What the fuck is retinal detachment?” Jake mumbles, squinting. The dot is definitely getting bigger, and it’s in both eyes, not just one. So... not retinal detachment, unless his eyes both did it simultaneously, which seems impossible, but...
Google seems very convinced he might be dying. That is not comforting him at all as he tries to read around the spot.
“Jake?” Kauri pads across the kitchen tile on bare feet, and his hand presses cool to Jake’s bare back, long fingers against his spine. “What’s up?”
“I’m having a weird-... a thing in my eye... or my eyes?” Jake leans slightly back into Kauri’s touch. He hasn’t stopped being grateful for Kauri’s presence, and so deeply aware of it. It feels fragile, whatever is happening now, even though Kauri has always been made of steel underneath his insistence that he was nothing but tissue.
“What kind of weird thing?” Kauri moves around him, to lean his back against the counter next to the stove, head tilted to look up at Jake.
Jake looks down at him, tousled black curls and the way his face has changed with time, cheekbones and jawline more prominent, but his eyes have never been anything but the widest, brightest blue, and he can see Kauri through the arc that the gray dot is forming in his vision as it expands.
“I can’t-... I keep seeing gray,” He confesses, shaking his head - and he feels pressure there, a sense of something just... sitting behind his eyes, over his eyebrows. Like the weight of a small animal is there, and getting heavier. “Just, like, a dot, but it’s getting... bigger. And... like, breaking up?”
He tries to look at Kauri again, and the dot is a half-circle now. There’s a flash in the rounded curve of it, and then another. Then a third, but this one is colors, and there are small rainbows flashing lights along the arch as it grows.
“Am I-... is this a fucking seizure? Or a, a brain tumor? Or...”
Kauri, to Jake’s shock, laughs. “Oh! No, Jake. No, that sounds like - you said it’s getting bigger?” He reaches up, going up on his toes as Jake leans down, and presses his cool hand against the side of Jake’s face. “Is it, like, turning into a circle? Do you see lights?”
“Um... yeah. Yeah, like, like a fucking rainbow strobe light on the right side.” Jake closes his eyes, and the pressure is getting worse.
“Jake.” Kauri’s voice is soft. “You’ve got a migraine. Or you’re about to have one. When did you last sleep through the night? Or, like, at all?”
Jake snorts. “You’re one to talk.”
“Answer the question, you.” Kauri pokes him in the side, with gentle affection, and Jake wishes he could focus on his face around the widening, flashing arch at the right side of his vision. At least it’s sort of framing Kauri, now, and Jake wonders at Kauri just... here.
No backpack by the door next to his shoes, ready to run. The backpack is in Jake’s room, and it’s empty. Kauri’s fucking... pet Roomba Keira is in her place of honor in the living room by the Christmas tree. One of the new rescues is convinced they can fix her broken wheel even though it’s been actual years since Keira could roll around on her own.
For her part, Keira informed Kauri in that... unsettling metallic female voice that her visual sensors were enjoying the shifting colors of the Christmas lights and that she didn’t mind playing a sort of living Wikipedia for the rescues - all former Romantics - learning about a world they were forced to forget.
Keira reported to Jake that the most common question she received was some variation on how many pets run away, and how many go back?
The numbers are getting bigger - and the amount that end up back in WRU custody or with their former owners is going down. That alone drives Jake to keep working, harder than ever, to give as many as he can somewhere safe to land.
“I don’t know. Chris is here for Christmas break, we have new rescues, there’s-... just been a lot going on, and-” He sighs as Kauri’s hand moves up, thumb rubbing soft little circles just above his eyebrow, and the pressure building behind his eyes seems to lessen, just a little, at the touch.
“So the answer is that you’re stressed and not sleeping. So this is definitely a migraine. Is it still getting bigger?”
Jake opens his eyes and looks down at Kauri’s face, giving a slight smile. “Uh, yeah. It’s... almost all off to the right, now. You’re pretty with a rainbow around you.”
“Well I’m gay as hell, so I should hope I look good in rainbows,” Kauri says, smiling with his nose scrunched up the way he does when he’s not being self-conscious about it, and then he takes Jake by the hand, pulling him back across the kitchen. “Come on, you. Time to lay down.”
“Kaur, the rescues will wake up any second now-”
“Antoni can feed them as well as you can - way better, honestly. He can just reheat those little pocket things with the cheese in them.”
“... Hot Pockets? I don’t think-”
“No, the thingies. The, um. The pirouettes?”
“Piroshkis?”
“Sure, that sounds right, too.”
“Well, pirouette is a ballet term-”
“Jake. Not important. Let’s just be happy I remember anything at all. Come on.”
Jake doesn’t feel like he follows Kauri so much as, like always, Kauri is a planet on its own orbit that Jake is drawn to, has always been drawn to, long before he could have had a moment with him like this. “But Chris-”
“Chris is twenty-three years old,” Kauri points out. “More or less. He can take care of himself, and right now you need someone to take care of you. And trust me, I have a lot of experience with migraines - and so does he.”
The rainbow flashes are fading out, moving so far to the side of his vision that they are effectively gone, but the pressure is still building and Jake squints against the way the first hints of sunlight hurts, a little, to see coming through the windows. “You do?”
“Of course I do.” Kauri’s legs are pale where they show under the hem of the big shirt he wears, and Jake swallows against the way something in him stirs at the sight, but that bit of pain that had come with seeing the sun isn’t leaving. It’s getting worse. “When I stopped blacking out, I started getting headaches, migraines, lasted for days. Fucking hated it. I used to get them in training a lot, too.”
“You did?”
“Mmhmm.” Kauri pauses, briefly, at the top of the stairs. “When I relearned how to read, and when I looked at myself again, they came back. But I had to keep trying, anyway.” He glances over at Jake and gives him a slight smile. “All that time I spent trying to figure out what you were seeing when you looked at me. Migraines come with the territory.”
“Why don’t I know that you were getting headaches?”
“Because I didn’t tell you about them. We’re, um. We’re good at ignoring pain.” Kauri smiles, still, but there’s something a little more brittle in it now. “Chris got them, too, learning to read. And... probably before. But everything-... hurts so much, in training. You get used to doing everything with the pain instead of waiting until it’s over. You don’t have a choice. There we go, I’ve distracted you with a sob story long enough to get you back to your room.” Kauri helps Jake inside, closing the door, and Jake sighs in relief as the room is beautifully, perfectly dark.
“Our room,” He says, and his head is starting to really hurt, now. “I don’t have time to lie down, Kaur.”
“You sure as fuck do,” Kauri says cheerfully, getting him back to the bed, hands running over Jake’s shoulders, back, and sides as he lays down on his stomach, groaning. Kauri presses a little, here and there, gnawing on his lower lip. “You’ve got some serious fucking stress in your back, Jake.”
“When do I not?” Jake asks, muffled by shoving his face into a pillow.
“... good point. I’m going to get you something for your headache and tell Antoni he’s in charge today. You... don’t move. Or I’ll be very unhappy with you.” Kauri’s voice teases, effortlessly flirty, just a little with the graze of his fingertips before he pulls away.
He’s gone, for just a few minutes, and Jake’s headache seems to worsen by the second, moving from the first hints of pressure to a full-on pounding pain. He doesn’t dare pull his head up, afraid even the slightest sliver of light will be too much. His stomach twists and turns, too, and Jake’s glad he got up here before he ate anything.
That Kauri got him up here.
Kauri reappears with two pills, a glass of water, and a surprisingly bright smile on his face. “Well, I’ve embarrassed Antoni by stretching and forgetting I’m not wearing any pants, so... good thing I look good naked. Here, take this.”
Jake swallows down the pills and drinks the water until it’s gone, then hides his face back in the pillow. “What’re you gonna do?”
“Stay right here, dumbass,” Kauri says, softly, and he crawls up into the bed, lying down on his side next to Jake. Jake can feel the soft brush of his hair before he leans in and kisses Jake’s neck. “Stay right here with you. That’s my plan for the day.”
“I’m gonna be real boring,” Jake mumbles into the pillow.
Kauri’s voice is low, situated just above a whisper but below the threshold that would make Jake’s head pound any harder. “I spent years alone with a talking Roomba and some plants on a balcony. Boring doesn’t bother me. I’d rather sit in this bedroom in the dark with you being a big whiny baby than be anywhere else.”
“... ‘m not whiny.”
“He said, whinily,” Kauri teased, and snuggled up next to him. Somehow he’d taken his shirt off and Jake slid one arm over the warm skin of his back, pulling him close. “Hey now-”
“Isn’t sex a pain reliever?” Jake asks, eyes still closed, nuzzling into Kauri’s neck, the warm smell of his skin, with the faintest hint of Jake’s own cologne. Something about having known Kauri to never smell like the same cologne twice for so long, and to know now he only ever smelled like Jake...
“Not for migraines. Wait til your head feels better, dumbass.”
“Thought you liked my ass,” Jake murmurs, kissing just under Kauri’s ear, a spot he knows Kauri likes, a spot Kauri didn’t know he liked, because nobody ever bothered to explore Kauri the way he deserves. His hand slid down and between Kauri’s legs-
And then he winces and turns his head back to the pillow. “Ow. Okay, I can’t right now.”
“Told you so,” Kauri says, moving Jake’s hand back over his waist. “No sex until you feel better, Doctor Kauri’s orders.”
Jake pauses, and says softly, “I must be the only guy on earth who fucking loves hearing you say ‘no.’”
Kauri pauses, and then kisses Jake’s hair, the top of his head, and slides back into his embrace, the warmth that came with lying together under the blankets together.
“Yeah, maybe. But I like that you want to hear it.”
“Always. Whenever you need to say it. I love you, Kaur.”
Jake thinks he hears the faintest hint of hidden tears in Kauri’s voice when he answers, “Love you, too.”

Chapter 21 - The Halloween Fair
[ DS ]
On the afternoon of the Halloween fair, I take out the costume that Miss Hannigan picked out for me from the closet. Ever since I’ve got it, I’m beyond excited to wear it. It’s a black low-cut shirt, a white, checkered suit with a blazer that ties at the waist and a flaring skirt. As I put on the blonde wig and the black beret, I turn to the mirror channeling my best inner Faye Dunaway and say to myself in a breathy, southern lilt: “My, my, don’t you just look dandy, Miss Bonnie Parker!”
My friends have been roped into manning the booths of the fair and somehow, I’ve slipped under the town people’s radars, which leaves me able to roam around the fair, albeit alone. Since I’ve known most people in this town ever since I was little, I’m never actually alone at these happenings, people tend to just pull me into their conversation as I walk by. But as luck will have it, as I’m rounding one of the booths of the fair, I find myself face to face with the one person I had secretly hoped to see.
He’s wearing a brown tweed suit with a matching waistcoat and over the white collared shirt he’s tied an emerald green tie. Perched on his head is a white fedora. ‘Shit. He’s Clyde. What the fuck?’
We stop in our tracks and stare at each other for a moment, taking in our respective costumes. He’s the first one to regain his ability to speak.
“Hey Bonnie, the laws are outside, they’re blockin’ the driveway!” His Warren Beatty impression is perfect right down to the Texan drawl. ‘God help me…’
“Gosh, I hope you’ve parked the getaway car around the corner, Clyde!” I’m putting on my best Faye Dunaway impression again as I add a wink to my statement and just continue to walk past him. My heart thumping hard against my chest betrays my cool exterior, but that’s my secret and my secret alone.
----------
[ FM ]
When we finally get to the Halloween fair that Felix has roped me into, dressed up in a costume I didn’t even pick myself. We trail the grounds together and we’re drawn to the candy apple booth. Well actually, Felix draws us to this exact booth, the little sneak, but I can’t resist his pout and pleading eyes, so we end up getting an apple each. Munching away happily, his mouth full, he asks the question I’ve been too scared to ask myself: “Hey dad, do you think Miss Scully is here too with her friends?” I hope she is, if only to see what kind of costume she has picked out for herself, but I can’t tell Felix that. Instead, I just shrug and we continue our stroll across the town square.
When we round another booth, we both stop in our tracks as we see a blonde woman appear before us , dressed in a checkered suit and a beret on her head. ‘Bonnie. She’s the freakin’ Bonnie to your Clyde. Your sidekick. No, your partner in crime. The woman you love. In the movie of course. Insert awkward cough.’.
Felix is oblivious of course, he hasn’t seen the movies and I doubt he even knows what my costume is, let alone Miss Scully’s. I scrape together the last braincells that are left in my head and a stupid movie quote is the only thing I can think of at this moment.
“Hey Bonnie, the laws are outside, they’re blockin’ the driveway!” The retort she gives me combined with her wink render me speechless until she’s well past me and Felix, mingling with the small crowd that welcomes her into their midst just a few feet away from us.
Felix does the thing I wish I could bring myself to do, staring at her retreating form in wonder and he also speaks the words that have sprung to my own mind.
“Wow!”
----------
[ DS ]
Countless conversations later and a little tipsy on the delicious apple cider they always serve at the Halloween fair, I wander along the booths when I hear a voice I haven’t heard in over a year. And could’ve gone forever not hearing again. It’s my ex-whatever Steve, talking to one of his friends.
I’m hidden pretty well in the crowd of people due to my shortness but I can still catch flashes of their conversation. When I hear my name, I stop, straining my ears.
“Dana? Oh God, no. She’s not even close to being a serious contender for a relationship.” I wince at his statement as well as the tone of his voice. “She’s just always there, you know? Like a well trained Golden Retriever, I say the word and she comes running. Such an easy lay!” When they share a laugh I can feel the flush of shame and anger crawl up my neck.
The situation he describes is exactly what I’ve spent countless hours in therapy getting over. But what he says next really drives a stake through my heart. “It’s so pathetic, but if it’s what I have to do to get laid, whatever. She’s even dirtier in bed than any hot teacher fantasy you could ever imagine and what they say about good Catholic girls is very, very accurate, if you know what I mean!”
If he weren’t the demon I have to face every time I try to get over my past, I would’ve revealed myself and give his ass a good kicking for talking about me the way he has. But not knowing how I’ll react to being face-to-face with him, I stay hidden behind a group of mummies and zombies like a fucking coward.
I’m so furious with him and myself for not being able to stand up to him. Where the hell are my friends when I need them? I haven’t seen them all evening and I could really use their company to talk some sense into me. Since they’re nowhere to be found, I head towards the bar set up in the back and slide onto a stool, ordering a shot of Tequila. ‘Fuck it! That low-life is not even worth your time of day!’
On the surface, I’m so angry I want to set this whole damn place on fire, but deep down, the past hurt resurfaces to join the hurt from his words I just heard.
By the time I’ve downed my second shot, I’ve repeated the mantra that I’m a strong woman who’s better off without men in my head about a thousand times. I see someone slide onto the stool next to me out of the corner of my eye as I order another shot of Tequila to keep the two empty glasses in front of me company.
“A third shot of Tequila is just asking for trouble, if you ask me.” I turn my head slowly towards my bar-mate to tell him exactly where to shove his smart-ass remark when I’m faced with my supposed partner in crime, the charming one with the disarmingly innocent smile on his stupid face. I’m staring him down defiantly, my eyes never leaving his while the bartender places my glass in front of me and I grab it, downing it in a swift motion, daring him in my mind to say anything else. He doesn’t comment, good for him, and orders a shot for himself, just raising his glass silently and I clink it with my empty one – I’m tipsy, not insane, chasing one shot with another.
We’re staring straight ahead during our conversation, turning our glasses over and over between our fingers.
“Which guy seems to be the problem and how many rounds of ammo do I need to take him out?,” he asks after minutes of silence. I want to lean into him for just assuming that it’s a man that has me sitting here seething, but unfortunately, he’s right. This one time.
“How many rounds you got?” He scoffs at that.
“Plenty. And I know of exactly eleven ways to get rid of a body without raising suspicion.”
“And here I was thinking the FBI frowned upon their employees giving out top-level secrets on how to hide away evidence of a crime committed.”
“I’m not going to tell you, I wouldn’t want you to be held in contempt of Congress when questioned.”
“How do you know I wouldn’t rat you out when questioned by Congress?”
“Just a hunch… Talk to me, Red. What happened tonight?” He turns towards me and I can feel his gaze dancing over the skin of my face.
“You really want to know? Well, turns out the asshole of an ex of mine decided that today might be the perfect time to make an encore appearance in my life and reminded me again why I should’ve kicked him to the curb a long time ago instead of hoping I could change him.” Looking down at the bar, I trace my finger through the condensation drops, my anger slowly dissipating and my voice growing more and more quiet. “I heard him say some pretty awful things about me tonight.”
I relax into his hand when he places it comfortingly on my back, right between my shoulder blades, and huff out a sigh. “I’m sorry.,” is the only thing he says, but doesn’t add anything else, giving me the choice if I wanted to elaborate or not.
“What I witnessed today was the way he’s always been but I just couldn’t see through the masquerade of the sweet guy, he was so kind and said all the right things and he quite literally wooed the pants off me from the get-go.”
“Love bombing.” ‘Oh yeah, I forgot, you’re a profiler. You probably already got one worked out for me, trust-issues, anxious attachment style, possibly daddy issues, in short, a hot mess. Avoid at all costs.’
“Pretty much, yeah. And I was stupid enough to believe it.” I raise my hand to call over the bartender for another round.
“You’re not stupid. It’s hard to tell the difference between genuine interest and love bombing in the beginning.” ‘Yeah, no shit Sherlock. It’s exactly why I’m sitting here torn between wanting you to make a pass at me and being absolutely terrified that you actually will.’
“How about we pass on the shots and get some water instead before calling it a night?”
“I think that’s probably a good idea, Mr. Mulder!”
“You know, after tonight, what do you say we just drop the Mister?” I nods slowly, pursing my lips.
“So just Fox?” He makes a pained face.
“No, please don’t. Just Mulder is fine.”
“Mh-hm. I guess since we’re dropping the titles, that that makes me Scully? Little odd, but alright!”
We get the check and argue back and forth about who gets to pay, him putting an end to it with a firm “Will you give it a rest, you’ll get to pick up the next check!”.
In my attempt to slide off the barstool gracefully despite three tequila shots, my heel catches onto the rail at the bottom and I stumble over the stool, knocking it over in the process. I have only his quick reflexes to thank that I don’t follow suit, his arms catching me around my waist and pulling me upright again.
He has the audacity to laugh, the bastard, and I’m beyond mortified. “Easy there, partner! Do you need a ride home? Felix is at a pajama party at his friend Suzie’s house, so I’m free to be your pumpkin carriage for tonight.” ‘NO! Yes? No. Get your hands off me. Don’t let go just yet.’
I’m so confused at the tug of war in my fuzzy head but I hate getting a cab alone and I’m in heels on top of being tipsy, I don’t want to walk home alone at night.
As we walk out, his hand finds his way to the small of my back guiding me through the crowds while making sure I don’t stumble again.
On the drive to the beach house, I manage not to fall asleep despite how tired I feel, too afraid of snoring or, God forbid, drooling onto myself. His hands find my back again guiding me up the stairs to the front door and I turn to face him at the top, even more nervous.
“Thanks for the ride, Mulder. And for listening.”
“Anytime, Scully. Good night!”
When he leans in, I start to panic that this is it and I think it shows on my face, because he only kisses my cheek, just like I did after the birthday party before getting back in the car and heading home. I can’t decide if I’m relieved or disappointed.
I can’t ignore the flutter of excitement every time his hands land anywhere on my body but what I will absolutely deny, even to myself, is the way my heart constricts in my chest when he gazes at me that way and the sense of comfort that settles over me when we’re together.
Bodily reactions I can deal with, it’s when it comes to emotions is where it gets scary.
I just don’t think my heart can survive another Steve.

traitor. (sokka x f!reader) pt 13
part 1 | part 12 | part 14
A/N: Here’s a cute little part. Occurs in ‘the headband’ episode, but doesn’t encompass the whole episode, just the important parts :)
Y/N sat there in silence after Aang told her what he had learned in just one day at a Fire Nation school. What did that mean for her education of five years at one? She tugged one of their blankets around her shoulders because even next to the fire she was shivering. She felt like she had been punched hard in the stomach and all the wind was knocked out of her.
“I don’t know about this,” Aang whispered. “It feels wrong to steal someone else’s clothes.”
Katara and Y/N exchanged a look. “I call the silk robe!” Katara shouted as she jumped over the rocks they had hidden behind.
“But I guess if it’s for the good of humanity… I call the suit!” Aang followed her.
The rest of them joined and ran between the lines of clothes looking for anything that might fit. Y/N was reaching for a pair of pants when Katara stopped her. “Pick something else.”
“Why?”
“People are used to seeing you wear Fire Nation clothes. You’ll be more recognizable if you pick something you always wear.”
“Fine.” Y/N wrinkled her nose and pulled a deep red skirt from the clothesline.
“This too.” She whipped a shirt at Y/N’s face. When she caught a look at it she shook her head wildly. “No way!” Y/N worked to keep her voice low so the man they were stealing from couldn’t hear her. “It’ll be hard enough to fight in a skirt, Katara. I’m not wearing it.”
---
Y/N poked at the bare skin of her midriff. “I mean seriously, Katara. I have to shrug this shirt on like it’s a robe and it ties in the back. If a bad guy gets ahold of that I’ll be half-naked.”
Katara pulled her hair out of its braids and hair loopies and didn’t spare a glance at the other girl. “You complain almost as much as Sokka.”
Y/N huffed and crossed her arms. “I don’t.” She unwound the leather tie around her braid and let her hair hang loose down her back, tying a similar top knot to Katara’s. “Let’s just go find the others.”
“How do we look?” Katara asked the other three. Y/N gave a very unenthusiastic twirl. Y/N turned back to notice how Aang’s eyes widened and he blushed as he looked at Katara. Y/N raised an eyebrow and glanced at Katara’s face, who was looking back at Aang with soft eyes. What is going on here? Y/N hummed in thought.
“You look like a girl,” Sokka said as his eyes bounced from Y/N’s skirt to her face.
“Thank you for that astute observation. I am a girl,” Y/N replied drily.
Sokka was blushing furiously. “No, I mean–”
“Oh, Katara. Your necklace,” Aang interrupted.
Katara rubbed the carved bone. “I guess it’s pretty obviously from the Water Tribe.”
“Don’t worry,” she patted Katara’s shoulder. “We’ll get you something else in town so it doesn’t feel like you lost it.”
---
Y/N slid the new bracelet she had bought around her upper arm while she listened to Aang talk. All of them bought something to make their disguises more authentic, while also being able to feel more like themselves; a new Fire Nation necklace for Katara, a flame pin to hold together Sokka’s top knot, a headband for Toph and the bracelet to help hide the burn scar on Y/N’s bicep.
“I used to visit my friend Kuzon here a hundred years ago. Just follow my lead.” Aang confidently turned the corner of the building they were behind and winked at a guy on the street. “Greetings, my good hotman!”
Toph pulled on Y/N’s elbow. “Is this really how they talk in the Fire Nation?”
“Uhh.. you know, I didn’t go into the city much but I’m almost one hundred percent positive that no they don’t,” Y/N whispered.
“Spirits, do not stop him. This is hilarious,” Toph laughed as Aang tipped his head to another man walking by, calling him ‘hotman’.
“I wouldn’t dream of it. I wish you could see the looks people are giving him.”
The five of them stopped in front of a restaurant. “Oh, I didn’t know we were going to a meat place,” Aang said a little dejectedly
“Everyone here eats meat!” Sokka exclaimed. “Even the meat!” He pointed over to a cow-hippo who was eating meat off the ground. Y/N’s stomach turned at the sight. Maybe she didn’t want to eat meat today either.
---
Aang left, promising to meet them in the same spot outside after he found something vegetarian. Ten minutes had passed and there was still no sign of him. Katara was beginning to pace with worry.
“He could have gotten lost looking for something to eat, right?” She asked the rest of them.
“We could go look around for him?” Y/N offered. When she noticed the hint of fear in Katara’s eyes, she added, “Nothing happened to him of course. He probably just got lost! Or he’s looking at some shop. How about you and Toph stay here, wait for him to see if he comes back. Sokka and I can wander the town looking for him.”
“We can?” Sokka asked.
Y/N nudged his ribs.
“We can,” he confirmed. He popped the last bit of his elk-caribou kebab in his mouth and threw the stick away. “Aang will come back and we’ll feel silly for being worried about him.”
“I hope you’re right, Sokka.” Katara said.
---
“Ooh, let’s look in this shop,” Sokka marveled, pulling Y/N along with him. It was only a shop full of little trinkets and bags but everything Sokka saw excited him.
“What do you think of this bag?” Sokka tossed the strap over his shoulder and posed.
“You have an Earth Kingdom bag back at camp that looks the same,” she retorted.
Sokka rolled his eyes. “Yeah, but now that we’re here, I need a Fire Nation one.”
Y/N shrugged and Sokka took that as her statement on what she thought of the bag. He placed it back on the table and picked up a ceramic box. “What about this box?” he asked.
She took it from his outstretched hands and inspected it. It was a black box with a golden Fire Nation flame on top. “What are you going to put in the box?” she asked as she handed it back to him.
“I–um, cool rocks that I find?”
Y/N hummed, amused. “And what are you going to do with the box full of cool rocks?”
“Put it in my bag,” Sokka muttered. “Fine! I won’t get it!”
---
“You’re not very fun to shop with.” Sokka said when they left.
Y/N looked up at the sun to check the time. “We’re supposed to be looking for Aang, not shopping.”
Sokka waved his hands. “Aang is fine. He’s the Avatar, he can take care of himself.”
“I’m assuming by the way Katara reacted that he doesn’t necessarily go off by himself a lot.”
“Katara–” he paused to think of the right word, “–she mother-hens us.” He held up his hands defensively. “Not that I’m saying we don’t need it, because sometimes it’s nice, but she worries entirely too much.”
Y/N stopped a fruit stand and picked up a ripe peach. “I don’t know, it’s kind of nice.” She passed along a few coins to the merchant and handed a second one to Sokka.
“How is it nice?” Sokka asked, then bit into the flesh of the peach.
“I don’t know. The way I grew up there was never anyone worried about when I would come home, you know? I just came and went as I pleased and then when I moved to the palace it was the same way.”
“You lived at the palace?” Sokka blurted out.
“Huh? Oh, yeah,” Y/N watched as Sokka cut the pit of the peach out with a small knife and tossed it into the road. He nodded at her to continue. “I moved to the capital to go to school and about a year after, I moved into the palace.” She bit into the peach and wiped the juice off her chin with the back of her hand.
“Why though? Why not live with your parents?” He asked, his brows furrowed in confusion.
“Do you always ask this many questions?”
“I’m just trying to figure you out,” Sokka stuttered.
“Why?” Y/N giggled. She abruptly stopped when Sokka blushed and gave her a look she couldn’t decipher.
“I just want to,” he finally said. “We don’t know anything about you.”
“Well, if you must know–it’s embarrassing–but my parents encouraged it actually. They were ecstatic that I was able to get close to the Royal Family and even though we weren’t nobility they had this absurd fantasy that I could marry Zuko.” Y/N covered her face in humiliation.
Sokka shared a look of disgust. “Fire Prince Ponytail, huh?”
She smiled at the joke, but it faded quickly; the hurt of Zuko’s betrayal still heavy on her heart. “He wasn’t always like that.” Y/N ran quickly to his defense. “I knew him when he was still good.”
Sokka collapsed on the ground and leaned up against a wall. “So tell me about it.”
Y/N sat next to him and bumped his arm with her shoulder. “About what?”
“Your palace life, Princess.”
---
The sun was setting when her and Sokka headed back to the cave. The streets were lined with paper lanterns and Y/N could hear lively music being played somewhere. It was busier than it was during the heat of the day and Sokka and Y/N were frequently bumped into from all sides, right into one another. Finally, after losing him twice in the crowd she looped her arm through his. She felt him tense up under her touch, but immediately relaxed.
“Oh, hey, what’s that?” She pointed off in the distance to a wooden board that looked like it had pictures posted all over it. She weaved them around the crowd to stand in front of it. It was a bulletin board full of advertisements, lost items, found items, and wanted posters. Her eyes ran across the assortment of them–The Blue Spirit, an Admiral named Jeong-Jeong–until her eyes landed on one in particular.
“Yeah, they put these out when we first started traveling with Aang.” Sokka poked at a yellowing poster of Aang in his airbender clothes. “Luckily they won’t be hunting for him anymore.”
“Yeah. They aren’t hunting you,” Y/N pointed at the only poster that drew her attention. The one with a similar likeness to her face. “But I think they’re hunting me now.”
Sokka peered around them to see if anyone was watching and ripped the poster down and shoved it in his pocket. “We need to tell the others.”
They only stopped running when they reached the mouth of the cave, the sun low in the sky.
“Where were you two?!” Katara scolded. “We waited for you to come back but you never did!”
“We looked around for Aang but–” Sokka started. He unfolded the poster from his pocket.
“Well did you find him?” She asked.
Sokka and Y/N shared a look. “You mean you didn’t?” Y/N fretted.
“No and Toph and I came back here when we couldn’t find anyone–”
The four of them jumped a noise outside. Y/N reached back instinctively to grab the hilt of her sword just when Aang strode in with Momo perched on his shoulder. His clothes were muddy and there was dirt on his face like he’d been chased through the woods but he was smiling. “Hey guys!”
“Where have you been? We’ve been worried sick!” Katara raced to pull him into a hug.
Aang sheepishly pulled off his headband. “I got invited to play with some kids after school.”
Sokka’s eyebrows shot up into his hairline. “After what?!”
“I enrolled in a Fire Nation school and I’m going back tomorrow.”
“Enrolled in what?!” Y/N thought Sokka was going to pass out.
“Let’s just sit down and talk about it,” Y/N suggested.
“I’m learning about all the propaganda they teach–”
Behind her, Y/N knew that Sokka was still talking, still flailing his arms around but she couldn’t hear the words he was saying because–
“Propaganda?”
Everyone froze, unsure of what to do next. Y/N could hear Toph behind her by the fire. “Oh no.”
“Um–”
Y/N wasn’t sure what to think. “No, don't even think about not telling me! What do you mean they teach propaganda at Fire Nation schools?”
---
Y/N sat there in silence after Aang told her what he had learned in just one day at a Fire Nation school. What did that mean for her education of five years at one? She tugged one of their blankets around her shoulders because even next to the fire she was shivering. She felt like she had been punched hard in the stomach and all the wind was knocked out of her.
What did Sokka, Katara, Aang and Toph think of her as they realized that these were the things that she grew up learning? That she had foolishly believed that the Air Nomads–known pacifists–had created an army big enough to destroy the Fire Nation so they had to be taken out first. That the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes, after hearing of the destruction of all the Air Temples and supposedly the Avatar, had joined together and invaded the Fire Nation. That she had believed in and supported the idea that the Fire Nation was doing the right thing, that cleansing the world of troublemakers and creating obedience and peace in the villages was ‘the only way’.
In the back of her mind, Y/N was trying to reason with herself, You knew the whole time. That’s why you left, that’s why you're trying to do good with the Avatar; to right the wrongs of your Nation. But it didn’t matter. She’d believed long enough for it to be harmful.
“Not to take away from the frankly alarming things we just learned but–” Sokka handed Aang the poster. “–we also found this when Y/N and I were in town.”
“What is it?” Toph asked.
“It’s a wanted poster for Y/N,” Aang muttered.
Katara jumped up to join him in reading it. Y/N didn’t need to see it again. She’d memorized it the first time she laid eyes on it.
And suddenly, her day was ruined. She couldn’t remember the taste of the peach she had eaten that afternoon or the feeling of the sun on her face. She couldn’t remember what the music sounded like as her and Sokka wandered out of town or what it felt like to spill her life story to someone who wanted to listen.
“Maybe I should go,” Y/N said numbly.
“What?” Katara said looking up from the poster.
“I’m putting you all in danger by being around you. Without me you’d be free to roam without the fear of being caught in the back of your minds all the time. It would be better for all of you like that!” Y/N was starting to get mad. Why couldn’t they see it? Why couldn’t they understand that this is the best option for everyone? That she was trying to save them?
“Why would you say something like that? How is that better?” Toph argued.
“Because you don’t need me here anyways? How could you want me around after hearing what Aang learned at school. Mind you, up until ten minutes ago, I believed every one of those things to be true!” Y/N stood up and paced around the cave, no longer able to be sitting still. Their campfire threw wild shadows of her form on the walls.
Y/N was beginning to feel like her outburst was due to more than just learning about Fire Nation propaganda but she couldn’t stop her mouth from moving. She stopped in front of them all for a second. “Tell me exactly what purpose do I serve on this mission?”
She took their silence for an answer. “Exactly,” Y/N growled.
Sokka stood up with her. “Not everything needs an exact purpose! You just fit with us!”
“But I don’t!” Y/N shouted. Her eyes and nose were stinging with unshed tears. Y/N rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands to keep the tears at bay for just a second longer. “I need a reason. I need a purpose. I have to have one! I don’t know how to describe this feeling. I’m just... lost. And–and I don’t even know how to explain it to you. How do I try and explain that my life has no meaning when I have no one to serve? I sit here with you guys and I’m wondering how you even wanted me to come when there was no reason for me to be here? I can’t even be your Fire Nation guide because I’ve never even seen most of the cities and apparently, I don’t even know my own history!”
Y/N looked at Katara. She blinked and twin tears traced down her cheeks. “I told you. I’m weak. I care about someone who wants me dead so badly she made me a wanted person. And all I want is to make her better so I can go home and I just can’t get past it all.”
Y/N put her head in her hands and sobbed. She felt two arms wrap around her waist and a head lay on her shoulder. Two more arms wrapped around the both of them. And pretty soon all five of them stood huddled in the cave in a group hug.
Y/N sniffled. “Why are you all comforting me like you’re my friends?”
“You are our friend,” Katara murmured into Y/N’s shoulder. “Don’t you want to be friends with us?”
Y/N whimpered. “I really do. I guess I just needed to hear you say it.”
“If it makes you feel better. I have no problem bossing you around.” Toph’s voice was muffled from the pile they were in.
Y/N smiled through her tears. “Thanks, Toph.”
---
A/N: listen, I don’t care if I made you cry, because I cried while writing that scene more than once and that’s all that matters.

Part one Part two Part four Part five Part six Part seven Part eight Part nine Part ten (M) Part eleven Part twelve Part thirteen Part fourteen (M)
“We’re still on for tonight, right?” Jihyo’s head suddenly pops up over her computer screen, voice barely above a whisper as she sneaks a few looks around the office. The atmosphere is tenser than normal today, and it seems like your co-workers are almost afraid to breathe every time your boss storms through the open office.
You think you overheard someone talking about a few computers being hacked into from inside the company, but you’re not sure. Either way, you figure it’s a good idea to stay on the low and out of your boss' way as much as possible, unless you want to get chewed up and spit out for literally just existing.
You give Jihyo a thumbs up, eyes glued to your screen just in case someone is watching. The thought of having a girl’s night with Jihyo and Sana definitely brightens your mood enough to make it through until lunch. You already have a few movies picked out that you’ve been meaning to watch for ages, and you can’t wait to just relax and spend some time with your friend and her hybrid.
You and Jihyo both decide to eat lunch outside, braving the cold autumn winds to escape the stifling mood of the office. You find a little coffee shop that isn’t too far away, giving you decent time to eat and talk before you need to head back.
“So, how’s your little black menace doing?” Jihyo asks with a small laugh as she places a few pastries on her plate. You shrug, reacting out for a stuffed croissant. Your sore back definitely seems to point to your kitty warming up to you, considering you ended up sleeping on the couch all night with him curled up on top of your stomach. But then again, he scurried off underneath the couch with a low grumble as soon as you woke up, so you feel like it’s hard to say. You’ve never met a cat before that’s so hot and cold.
“I don’t know,” You admit, moving behind Jihyo in line to pay for your food.
“He seems to tolerate me one second and then hate me the next .. It’s hard to say,” You frown.
“Y/N ..” Jihyo pauses, her shoulders tensing before she continues, “Maybe you should consider giving him back to the shelter? Not to be mean, but you look horrible. You seem sadder than you were before you even got a cat, and news flash, you’re supposed to feel happier - not miserable,” Jihyo throws you a look over her shoulder as she moves to pay, concerned eyes briefly locking onto yours.
You feel the clump in your stomach grow, the anxious feeling you haven’t been able to shake off completely since you brought your cat home becoming bigger. Maybe you aren’t the right home for him. Maybe Jihyo is right ..
“I guess,” You mutter as Jihyo steps aside to let you pay. You can almost feel the soft fur against your fingers as you pick up your plate, uncertainty gnawing away at your thoughts as you both find a table to share.
“But I still need to try a little longer. I’m sure he’s had a rough time before he came to the shelter, stuff like that isn’t cured over night,” You reason, the tension in your body loosing up just a tad. You will take him back to the shelter if it doesn’t get better between you two, but you need to at least try first.
“A month then,” Jihyo proposes.
“If things haven’t improved between you in a month, then you take him back to the shelter. I hate seeing you so down,” She pouts, hand reaching out to squeeze yours before she starts eating her lunch.
You take a bite of your own pastry, mulling the idea over in your head as you eat. A month seems reasonable. It’ll give your cat time to settle down a little, and if he’s still so afraid that he hides from you after all those weeks, then it’s probably for the best to bring him back.
“Alright, deal. One month,” You give Jihyo a nod, your mind already racing to come up with plans of how to make your cat feel more at home.
.
Unsurprisingly, the rest of the workday is just as stiff as the first half.
“I never thought this day would end,” You groan as you and Jihyo step outside, your shoulders aching from how tense you’ve been all day.
“Tell me about it,” Jihyo huffs. Her face lights up as she spots the waiting car, probably eager to get inside and remove those god awful heels the company forces you to wear as part of your unofficial uniform.
“I’ll head off now. Text me what kind of snacks you want me to bring, okay?” Jihyo flashes you a bright smile and a wave before she’s off, climbing into the passenger seat of the car as fast as she can manage.
“I’ll be at your place at seven!” Jihyo yells out of the window as the car takes off, leaving you behind in whirlwind of dust and fallen leaves. You sigh as you turn, beginning your journey home. Your apartment is around a thirty-minute walk from work if you’re wearing good shoes, but with these heels it's probably closer to forty-five.
You would normally take the bus, but since you need to stop by a mart and get groceries, it’s honestly better to just sacrifice your feet and take a more direct route home. Thankfully the mart isn’t too busy when you get there, and you quickly find all the things you need for the dinner tonight, as well as some food to get you through the rest of the weekend.
You pause as you pass by the chicken section; hand reaching out for the chicken breasts your cat enjoyed so much before you even realize what you’re doing.
“He’ll probably be angry at me after tonight,” You reason, and food seems like the best bribery for a cat that doesn’t like to be pet.
Your arms are shaking by the time you’ve made it up the stairs to your apartment, shirt clinging uncomfortably to your back from the light sweat you’ve managed to work up.
You quickly unlock your door and step inside, bags falling to the ground with a heavy thump as you turn around. The first thing you see in the dark hallway is golden eyes staring straight at you, the black fur almost blending into the shadows. You let out a startled squeak, hand flying to your chest to calm your racing heart.
“I know I’m late kitty, I’m sorry,” You say after taking a deep breath, a small smile on your face as you try to convey just how bad you feel for delaying his dinner. You see him give a small flick of his tail, the only indicator that he’s actually listening to you as you reach down to bring your bags to the kitchen.
You don't hear him follow you, but you can feel those golden eyes tracking you as you move around the kitchen putting your groceries away. You throw a quick glance at the clock hanging over your stove as you shove the rest of the food inside the fridge.
“Shit!” You only have half an hour until your guests arrive, and you desperately need a quick shower before you do anything else. You rush towards your bathroom, just narrowly missing bumping into your cat that’s peaking at you around the corner. He hisses at the close proximity, and you let a string of sorry’s hang in the air behind you as you hurry inside, wrestling with the buttons on your shirt as you go.
You’re practically out of breath as you wrap a towel around your damp body, holding it in place as you scurry to your bedroom to find some clothes to wear. You don’t remember leaving your door open before you left for work, but you probably just didn’t close it properly. You pay it no mind as you quickly grab some fresh underwear and sweats from your closet, it’s not that big of a deal anyway.
You slip your underwear on under your towel, throwing the pants behind you on to the bed as your search for your favourite hoodie. You frown as you rummage through your clothes, hoodie nowhere in sight. You’re sure you washed it a few days ago, so it doesn’t make sense that it’s just gone. You huff, settling for throwing on a cosy sweater instead. Your hoodie search will have to be resumed later.
You can see a black ball of fur out of the corner of your eye as you tug on your pants, your cat having moved to scowl at you from the hallway, golden eyes narrowed as they watch you get dressed.
“I promise I’m making your food now kitty,” Your cat glares at you before he turns around and leaves, the motion a little weird and eerily inhuman. You could’ve sworn it almost rolled its eyes at you .. But you don’t have time to think about it, the encounter already being pushed into the back of your mind as you hurry to start making dinner.
You get the chicken ready first, setting some aside to cool as you add the rest to the dish you’re making. Jihyo sent you a recipe that apparently Sana loves, and since you figure you’ll probably be seeing a lot of each other from now on, you really want to make your friend’s hybrid like you.
“Kitty?” You call out as you place in the dish in the oven. You hear a soft disgruntled meow coming from the living room, and it’s not that hard to guess where he might be hiding. You only have a few minutes until your guests arrive, but it should be enough time for your cat to finish eating.
You bring the plate out into the living room, placing it down a little further away from the couch than you did last time. There’s a few seconds where nothing happens, the apartment quiet aside from the soft noise outside of your window.
You hear another annoyed meow before your cat emerges, and he practically gives you the cat equivalent of the stink eye as he crouches down to eat. He must’ve realized that you’re trying to coax him out from under the couch, and it seems like he isn’t too happy about it.
You busy yourself with straightening out the pillows on the couch as he eats, trying to make your small living room look a little less cramped and more put together.
“Kitty, you need to be on your best behaviour tonight,” You see a fluffy ear swivel your way as you speak.
“My friend Jihyo and her hybrid are coming over, so please don’t hiss at them, okay? Jihyo seems to dislike you enough already, and I’m sure she’ll force me to give you up if she thinks you’re dangerous,” You grimace as you fluff out the last pillow, missing how your cat’s head snaps up to look at you with wide eyes just as the door bell rings.
“Please behave kitty,” You murmur softly as you pick up the empty plate from the floor, your cat scurrying back under the couch as you drop the plate off in the kitchen. You really hope he won’t react too badly to Sana considering she’s a dog hybrid, but as long as she appears in her human form you’re sure your cat won’t mind it too much.
But of course you should’ve known that was too much to ask for.
As soon as you open the door, a fluffy white ball of fur flies through the opening, Jihyo stumbling in behind it. The little Pomeranian takes off down the hallway, feet clicking against the hardwood floor as she runs through your apartment.
“Sana!” Jihyo calls out, bags of snacks stuffed under her arms as she hurries in after her. You quickly lock the door and follow them, a bad feeling settling in your stomach as the apartment grows too quiet again. You freeze beside Jihyo as you reach the living room, eyes widening in horror as you see Sana and your cat growling at each other near the couch.
Your cat is seemingly furious, black fur standing on edge and teeth barred to mimic the look on Sana’s face. The low hiss rumbling in his chest seem to grow louder and louder, and you see Sana’s posture turning more and more rigid the longer they keep eye contact. They seem to be squaring up to fight, and you have absolutely no intention on letting that happen.
“Jihyo!” You hiss, elbowing her in the side. “Do something about Sana!”
“I don’t know what to do! She’s never been like this before!” She hisses back, not daring to tear her eyes away from the increasingly more agitated animals.
“I’ll grab her,” You say, the dog hybrid too busy growling to notice what you’re saying. Jihyo nods, a nervous expression on her face as you take a step closer. Sana doesn’t see you, but your cat does, and that brief second his eyes flicker to you seems to be enough of an opening for Sana to attack.
You lurch forward, barely managing to scoop Sana up before she has the chance to snap after your cat. You can tell your cat isn’t ready to give up the fight, its golden eyes narrowing in on you and the squirming dog in your arms.
“No kitty!” You give him a glare, but it’s like he isn’t seeing you at all, just the white fluff that seems to be threating his territory. You quickly pass Sana on to Jihyo; bags of snacks falling to the floor as she hurriedly brings her hybrid into your room to separate them. At the sound of the door clicking shut, your cat visibly relaxes, eyes finally seeing you instead of burning right through.
“Kitty,” You warn, voice stern and your hands on your hips as you stare down at him. Your cat holds your stare for a short while before it almost sounds like he huffs in annoyance. He ignores your attempt at a scolding, and instead chooses to lick his paw and clean his face while you watch in disbelief.
“Fine. Why am I even trying, you’re just a cat,” You tut. You feel a little silly, especially since you’re trying to scold an animal that doesn’t even understand what you’re saying.
“Y/N?” Jihyo’s voice calls out to you from behind the closed door. “Can we come out? Sana’s shifted.”
“Yeah, come on out,” As soon as the words leave your lips, the door flies open. You barely get a glimpse of Sana before she crashes into your arms, arms wound around your body so tightly it almost hurts to breathe.
“I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to be a bad dog,” Sana buries her face in your chest, tears staining your sweater as she trembles. Jihyo sends you a sad look over her shoulder, a little pout on her lips that seems to be begging you to forgive her. You manage to free your arms enough to wrap them around her, awkwardly patting her back as she cries.
“Shh, it’s okay. I’m not mad,” You say, but that only seems to make Sana cry harder.
“You’re so nice! And I’m such a bad dog, I’m so sorry!”
“Sana ..” Jihyo tries, but her voice only makes Sana cling harder to you.
“I just wanted to protect you! I smelled him inside and I didn’t want him to hurt you,” Sana pulls back enough to look up at you with her big glossy puppy eyes, fluffy ears glued down against her light hair.
“It’s okay, he’s just a kitty Sana, he won’t hurt me,” You smile, reaching up to pat her head affectionately.
“No! He’s not! He’s–” A loud hiss suddenly interrupts Sana, the sound scaring her enough to make her run back to Jihyo. She cowers behind her back, cheek pressed against Jihyo's shoulder as she refuses to look at your cat.
You’re about to scold him again for scaring her, but the words get caught in your throat as you feel something brush against your legs. You look down in shock to find your cat rubbing himself against your sweats, tail curling around your leg as he moves around.
“Uhm, does he normally do that?” Jihyo raises an eyebrow, the conversation you two had earlier in the day fresh in her mind.
“No?” You look at her with wide eyes as your cat raises its back, eyes blinking up at you. Does it want you to .. You slowly reach down with your hand, hesitating before your fingers can brush against the black fur.
Your cat doesn’t seem to mind your hand coming closer, but you still hold your breath as your fingers finally touches the silky fur, running a few fingers along his spine in a quick pat. Your cat freezes at the contact, body locking up underneath your fingertips as they run along his back.
“Sorry kitty,” You snatch your hand away, stepping back to give your cat some space. Sana is still hiding behind a dumbfound Jihyo, and you feel terrible that your evening started out in the way that it did.
“Let’s grab some dinner, it should be done by now! I made your favourite,” You smile kindly at Sana as her eyes hesitantly meet yours.
“Really?” You can see her tail wagging slowly back and forth, a small smile spreading across her lips at the thought of food.
“Yeah, let’s eat in the kitchen,” You laugh as Sana starts pushing Jihyo sideways in the direction of the kitchen, using her owner as a shield against your cat the whole way. Thankfully your cat stays in the living room during dinner, but you can see Sana’s apprehension returning the moment you suggest watching a movie. However as you walk into the living room, he’s nowhere to be found. You even sneak a quick peak under the couch, and there’s no kitty hiding there either.
You shrug, quickly getting the snacks the girls brought ready, and putting on the movie all of you decided you want to watch. You and Jihyo have taken over the small couch while Sana has curled up in the chair next to it.
“Sana?” You call out, “You know there’s room on the couch if you want to sit here?” You see her ears perk up, tail wagging as she looks at Jihyo for permission.
“Can I?” She asks, eyes bright at the thought of being allowed to snuggle up to the both of you.
You hear a dull thud from your bedroom, your cat quickly shimmying out between the crack in the door. So that’s where he was, you think.
He bolts over to the couch before Jihyo can even open her mouth, quickly jumping up into your lap and making himself at home. Your hands are frozen by your side, mouth hanging open in surprise as you watch him lie down and start kneading your shirt.
“Kitty?” You ask, but the only response you get is an ear twitching in your direction. You can tell that your cat’s eyes are trained on Sana, golden eyes barely blinking as his claws dig deeper into the fabric of your sweater. Maybe he understands a little more than you first thought.
“Kitty?” Jihyo snaps your attention to her, a questioning look on her face. “You haven’t named him yet?”
You shrug, lowering a hand to gently scratch across your cat’s head. This time he doesn’t freeze up, and your smile grows a little goofy as you feel him snuggle closer to your hand.
“No? I don’t know, none of the names I’ve thought of seems to fit him.”
“Well, it’s not like he’s gonna tell you himself,” Jihyo snorts, reaching out for the popcorn that’s placed on the table in front of you.
“I guess not,” You giggle, amused by how pliant your cat has gone in your hands. You’re practically supporting his head in your hand, and it’s obvious that he’s enjoying the petting by the low slightly broken attempts at purring your hear coming from his chest. But he’s still refusing to look away from Sana, eyes never closing fully despite how sleepy he seems.
“Yeah .. That would be weird,” Sana gives you both an uncomfortable chuckle, eyes flickering between your cat and the TV. You spend most of the movie mesmerized at the black fur beneath your fingertips, eyes hardly straying from the cat in your lap. He seems much nicer and softer like this, and you can hardly believe that it’s the same cat that attacked your arm just a week ago.
As the movie goes on, you often find yourself chiming in a beat too late when the two other laugh, earning you a few weird looks and eye rolls. But how can they fault you for not paying attention when you’ve got a lap full of a black fluffycuddly cat? It would be a crime to not pay attention to him.
The movie slowly comes to an end, the snacks on the table half eaten, and Sana’s ears drooping down sleepily. You’re about to suggest putting on another one, feeling a little bad that you basically ignored the whole movie aspect of a movienight, but Jihyo waves you off before you can even speak.
“We’ve all had a rough day, maybe it’s better to call it a night?” She reaches over to run her fingers through Sana’s hair, a tender smile on her lips that makes something ache inside your chest.
“Sure,” Come to think of it, you are pretty tired yourself. Work was stressful and almost having your kitty and Sana fight definitely didn’t lessen the tension you’ve been feeling in your body all day either. You gently ease your cat off your lap, but despite its sleepy protests it quickly settles down on the couch as it realizes that your guests are leaving.
“I had a nice evening despite .. the little hiccup at the beginning,” You smile, reaching up to ruffle Sana’s hair. A squeak of surprise leaves your lips as she suddenly scoops you up in another hug. She rubs her face against your neck as you pat her head, the dog hybrid really being too cute for her own good.
“Please be careful okay? You don’t know– I-I don’t trust him,” Sana shoots a glare in the direction of the living room, and your building amusement at her distain for your cat dies down as you see the seriousness in her eyes.
“Of course,” You give her hand a squeeze, the tone of her voice making something weird tug in your stomach.
“I’ll see you on Monday,” You give Jihyo a quick hug before you wave them off, a sigh leaving your lips as you lock the door behind you. Sana’s expression keeps floating around in your head, and you can’t seem to shake it no matter how hard you try.
You pause as you enter the living room, your cat blinking sleepily at you from the couch. You don’t really see how he can do anything bad aside from being moody and a little mean, but Sana does have actual animal genes and you don’t. You’re just not sure if hers are extra sceptical because she’s a dog and your cat is well, a cat.
“Night kitty,” You murmur as you turn off the lights, leaving the clean up for tomorrow. You hear a low hiss behind you just as you turn to close the door, a black paw scratching through the crack. Your cat has never shown any interest in your bedroom before, so you open the door, curious to see what he wants.
Your cat doesn’t even spare you a second glance as he prances inside, he just head directly for your bed and curls up in the middle of it. You roll your eyes at his shift in personality, quickly tugging off your clothes to find a shirt to sleep in.
You suddenly feel oddly exposed in your room, like someone’s gaze is watching you intently. A quick look back at the bed confirms that your cat is already asleep, eyes closed and tail tucked up over them, but you still tug on your shirt before you remove your bra, the weird notion not really going away.
You just chalk it up to Sana’s words making you a little paranoid, and you shake your head as you carefully slide into bed.
You end up practically curled around your cat, the position not very comfortable, but you’re unwilling to disturb him now that he's has finally fallen asleep. You guess all those memes about people letting their animals hog their beds had some truth to them after all.
It doesn’t take long for the exhaustion of the day to catch up with you, quickly pulling you under into a restful sleep.
There’s a wet sensation of something cold dragging against your skin, not really enough to wake you up, but it still drags you out of the dream you had. You feel it moving across your neck and collar bones, and your sleep-riddled brain barely makes the connection that it seems to be covering up the areas that Sana rubbed her face against earlier.
You huff, snuggling your face deeper into your pillow.
You’re pretty sure you fall back asleep, because the last thing you remember from your dream is a hot breath spilling against your ear, and a low gruff voice whispering Yoongi.

Here on AO3!
-
Tony is heading to the gym for Steve’s newly mandated team training time and yeah, he’s late, but he does have coffee. So at least he’s on brand.
It looks like everyone else has beat him here, which isn’t really surprising, and Tony tosses out a grin and wave in response to the unimpressed look Steve shoots him.
Then his eyes land on Bucky. Who is doing one armed pushups. Completely vertically, pointed toes up in the air and strands of hair falling loose around his face where it’s come loose from the hair tie. And he is in yoga pants.
They hug his calves, his ass, his thighs, tight black spandex with gray piping up sides and Tony is weak.
Forget team bonding, Tony needs to get out of here right now, before he makes a fool of himself. Except he spins too quickly, hot coffee sloshing over the rim of his mug and onto his fingers, and he’s so busy hissing over the sharp burst of pain that he walks straight into the door as it swings shut.
“Ack, fuck,” Tony gasps, more hot coffee splashing out across his hand, rubbing at his forehead and apparently he’s a little dizzy because he goes to take a step back and tilts to the side instead, bouncing off the wall.
He’s almost caught his balance, and then he trips over Sam’s stupid jump rope, and then his thighs hit the weight bench and he tumbles backwards over it, the last dregs of his coffee somehow ending up entirely on his chest.
“Damnit Wilson,” Tony grumbles, “I knew you were out to get me!”
There’s a soft chuckle from somewhere above him, and Tony pries his eyes open. He’s half expecting to see Sam, ready to defend himself and deny that he’s trying to kill Tony with workout equipment even though he very clearly is.
Instead it’s Bucky, leaning over him all shirtless and sweaty and concerned.
“You okay, doll?”
When Tony tries to speak all that comes out is a strangled gurgling sound, and Bucky’s concerned look gets deeper.
-
“Gross, they’re doing it again,” Sam complains, pausing mid situp to shoot a glare across the gym.
When Steve glances away from sparring with Natasha she takes the opportunity to pop him in the throat.
“This isn’t even funny anymore,” Natasha says while Steve coughs and hacks and gives her a dirty look.
“It stopped being funny weeks ago,” Rhodey says as he leans against the ropes of the boxing ring and shakes his head in disappointment.
“You’re just saying that because that’s when you were officially out of the betting pool,” Clint says with a snort.
“I really didn’t think it would take them this long,” he says with a morose sigh, “I’m ashamed.”
Steve makes a sound that might be agreement.
“New bet, how much worse can it possibly get?” Sam tries to joke, but he has a terrible feeling that it’s not a joke at all.
“I think we’re all the losers in that bet,” Natasha says as they all watch Bucky help a still clearly-swooning Tony out of the gym.
The poor pining morons don’t even notice they have an audience. Just like Bucky somehow doesn’t notice that Tony is literal putty in his hands, and Tony mysteriously doesn’t notice Bucky giving him the sappiest heart eyes ever.
It’s shameful, is what it is.
-
Tony lets Bucky drag him into the kitchen, sinks onto one of the stools when gently pushed in that direction, and he’s becoming uncomfortably aware that his shirt is still splattered with cooling coffee and probably clinging to his chest.
He should probably go change, and then maybe go hide out somewhere until he figures out how to deal with Bucky in yoga pants.
But before Tony can figure out how to convince his legs to actually move, Bucky is done digging around in the freezer and by his side again.
“Ow,” Tony says with an exaggerated wince as Bucky presses a bag of ice to the back of his head, and then nearly melts out of his seat when Bucky shushes him with a wide palm running down the back of his neck.
He’s not actually as rattled as Bucky seems to think he is, but Tony certainly isn’t going to correct him. It’s a much safer excuse than admitting his brain went to mush the second he saw Bucky’s thighs, all wrapped up and accentuated in tight black spandex, and it still hasn’t quite come back online.
From here, with Bucky standing beside him and gently holding his head still while Tony stares studiously at the floor, all Tony can see of Bucky is his foot. The tight black fabric ends just above the delicate bones of his ankle, his bare toes wiggling against the tile floor as he pulls the ice away and inspects Tony’s head.
Forget getting his brain working again, Tony is just trying to keep his stupid heart from crawling its way up his throat over ankles. Like some kind of repressed Puritan, Jesus.
Which means he can’t at all stop himself from nervously stuttering out “Those-those are uh, nice... you like yoga pants huh?”
There’s a vague sense of motion beside him, like Bucky is shrugging, as he says “They’re comfortable.”
“Uh huh, they-“ Tony starts to say, and then nearly swallows his tongue when Bucky steps around in front of him again.
His eyes automatically drag upwards, and it takes everything Tony has not to let himself linger, not to get caught staring at the frankly mouthwatering bulge of Bucky’s cock that his skin tight leggings are not doing a very good job of hiding.
He jerks his gaze up higher and it doesn’t help because oh god there’s Bucky’s chest, still bare and so close and by the time he finally manages to make himself look up at Bucky’s face he can’t breathe.
“They- uh, s-sure look it,” Tony stutters out, and furious blushing is totally a symptom of a concussion, right?!
Bucky’s smile stays warm and friendly, so he’s probably alright.
And all Bucky says is “You should try them! I can send you the site I got ‘em from, Nat recommended it to me.”
“Okay,” Tony squeaks and damnit he’s actually going to have to buy some yoga pants now. There’s no other way to play off his sudden fascination with them.
-
A week later, everyone has lost the bet.
They find the two morons asleep together on the couch, legs tangled and blankets wrapped around them both.
The entire team agrees it’s the most disgusting thing they’ve ever seen.
-
Steve is taking his frustrations out on a punching bag when Bucky suddenly ducks behind the bag, grabbing it and holding it still so he can hide behind it.
“What is this, why are you doing this?” Steve demands, rhythm thrown and half-debating just punching the bag anyways in the hopes that it’ll shake Bucky loose.
“Steve,” Bucky hisses, like he somehow hasn’t noticed that he already has Steve’s full attention, “Steve, I’ve made a terrible mistake.”
“What are you talking about?”
Bucky’s head pops out from around the punching bag, eyes fixed on something across the gym as he hisses “Tony bought yoga pants.”
Steve turns and sure enough, Tony and Natasha are standing near the sparring mats in matching black and gray patterned spandex.
“Does Nat get money every time she talks someone into buying those?” Steve has to wonder, because she has been relentlessly texting him the link too.
“Steve,” Bucky hisses again, “Steven. I can’t- how do I even- Steve-“
“What?!” Steve demands impatiently, because he really wants to go back to punching things, and not thinking about the awkward mating dance of his best friends.
“Look at his ass!”
Steve huffs and resists the urge to gag at the open reverence in Bucky’s tone. He does turn though, just in time to watch Tony bend over in a low stretch.
“Perfect little bubble, I just wanna bury my face in it and live there,” Bucky sighs.
“Huh,” Steve says, tilting his head a little to get a better view because damn, Bucky is not exactly wrong- “Ow!” He squawks when Bucky swings the punching bag into him, “you’re the one who told me to look!”
“Not like that!” Bucky snaps back. It looks like he’s considering hitting Steve with the punching bag again, and Steve holds up a single finger in warning.
“Do not,” he says sternly.
Bucky settles for just hugging the bag instead, gaze already drifting across the gym again. Steve has a terrible feeling he’s not going to get back to his workout.
“Please just ask him out,” Steve says plaintively, “pretend to act like a functional person.”
“How am I supposed to function when faced with The Most Amazing Ass Ever™️?!” Bucky demands, and then makes a weird whimpering sound as Tony no doubt does something. Like existing.
Steve refuses to look over, instead just sighing out “Get off my punching bag, you’re making this so weird.”
“I’m filin’ a complaint,” Bucky says, clearly not listening to him anymore and still staring with rapt attention at where Tony is apparently doing something fascinating. “These pants are supposed to be ‘super stretchy’ but they clearly did not count on boners cuz my dick is strangled.”
“Excuse me,” Steve says, already walking away, “I need to go vomit.”
Hell, next week he might skip mandatory team training.
-
Tony is laying on his stomach on the common room floor, propped up on his elbows as he pokes at his phone and kicks his feet lazily in the air.
He’s wearing bright red yoga pants today, and even Clint is not immune.
He catches himself after a couple seconds of staring at the swell and bounce of Tony’s ass, and gives himself a vigorous shake. That’s a good way to earn the Winter Soldier Death Glare.
Even if said Winter Soldier is too much of a disaster to actually do anything about his super obvious crush.
“So are yoga pants just the new thing?” Clint asks, climbing over the back of the couch and keeping his eyes safely on Tony’s face, because he does not want to be assassined to death today. “You’re just gonna wear them all the time?”
“They’re comfortable,” Tony says with an absent shrug, then grins up at Clint and wiggles his eyebrows as he adds “Plus, they make my ass look great.”
And Clint can’t exactly argue that, so instead he just flatly says “You’re going to give Barnes a heart attack.”
Tony looks confused for a split second, and then smiles widely.
“Because I pull them off so much better than he does?” he asks, striking a pose, and Clint seriously considers running away to join the circus. Again.
He’s not even sure if things will actually be better if they eventually get together at this point.
He should make that the new bet.
-
“I’m just saying,” Tony insists, and then raises his voice when Steve put his head down on the table and starts humming under his breath, “If I thought Bucky was actually interested, I would 100% be here for him. With open arms-“
“Well that’s actually kind of-“
“And open legs-“
“Tony-“
“And an open mouth,” Tony finishes, grinning and winking when Steve looks up at him with a glare.
“Tony, please, I don’t want to hear this,” Steve says, hands over his ears and he does actually look a little green.
“This is nothing,” Tony says with a scoff, giving Steve an unimpressed look, because he is weak. “You should hear the shit I say to Rhodey.”
“I would like to hear those things,” says a voice directly behind him.
Tony freezes, his entire body going cold, because he knows that low, warm, rumbling voice. He hears it in his dreams, and oh no oh no oh no, now Bucky knows.
So much for his plausible deniability.
His brain kind of goes staticy with panic for a second, and he’s only dimly aware of Steve rolling his eyes.
“Yeah my part in this conversation is done,” Steve says, and promptly bails.
When Tony’s brain finally reboots he finds that Bucky has taken Steve’s seat across the kitchen table.
Bucky is also just grinning at him, like he doesn’t find Tony’s borderline-obsessive crush at all creepy.
All Tony can think to say is “What.”
And then he realizes he doesn’t actually want an answer, doesn’t want to find out if Bucky is going to make fun of him, or if he thinks it’s all a joke. He can’t decide if that would actually be better or worse than being turned down gently, and he doesn’t intend to stay and find out.
“I’m just...” Tony sputters, face burning as he flails his way out of his chair, “Gonna- gonna go. Run away. Yep.”
“Wait,” Bucky says, eyes wide and halfway out of his own chair.
Tony freezes, because Bucky looks a lot like he feels. Thrown, surprised, confused and so hopeful that it’s terrifying.
“I-I’d like it if you stayed,” Bucky says slowly, then smiles crooked and nervous as he adds “Not that I don’t like watchin’ you walk away.”
It startles a laugh out of Tony, face flushing as he sinks back into his chair. “Okay,” he says, heart racing and smile almost painfully wide, “um, what?”
Bucky laughs, soft and low and warm, and finally finishes reaching across the table to take Tony’s hand in his own.
-
Clint wins the bet on how much worse their lives get once the love-struck morons start making out all over the place.

Big thank you to my beta reader/snippet looker-overer (?)/my biggest cheerleader @burnsoslow - always catching little details that my mind overlooks.
Warnings: Some swearing; hinting of 🍐 or 🍋?
Words: 2002
“Lady Ella. Might I have a word?”
Ella wasn’t sure about the protocol for inviting the King inside her bedroom … but this was his palace after all. She nodded and stepped back, allowing him to walk past her as she shut the door.
“Hello again, Your Majesty,” Ella put one foot behind the other in an attempt to curtsy when Constantine waved his hand in the air.
“There’s no need for that, dear,” he studied Ella for another moment before speaking again. “How are you feeling about Liam?”
“Your Majesty?” What the hell does that mean?
Constantine blew out a breath. “Are you here for wealth? Fame? A title? Why are you here? Liam needs stability above all right now, Ella. You … joining in the middle of the social season, having not been in Cordonia long and knowing nothing of our traditions … that concerns me. We have suitors that have prepared their entire lives to be queen. This could be potentially dangerous should our enemies see this as a weakness!”
Ella grit her teeth and clenched her jaw in an effort to hide her irritation. What the fuck? “Sir, if I may speak freely?”
He nodded and gestured for her to go ahead.
“Why are you trying to intimidate me?” She spat out.
The King was taken aback at her tone and could only blink as a response. He hadn’t expected this very small woman to behave this way. Ella continued speaking, not even waiting for him to respond. “I may not have prepared my whole life to be a queen of an entire country, but I’ve spent a majority of my adult life studying. Studying diplomacy, trade, investment … how to recognize when someone is going into cardiac arrest and bringing them back to life,” she said the last few words louder than the rest, unable to hide her aggravation. “I have no doubt that these other ladies studied hard to be queen. But did they study how to be a wife? How to console someone when they lost everything they own? How to be compassionate towards people of a lower stature? The people need a Queen that understands them. Liam needs someone that can be a queen AND a wife. I’ve embraced your country, as well as your traditions.”
Constantine gave her a questioning look.
“I know I have because instead of just being with the man I want to be with … I have to parade around with four other women trying to win him.” Ella’s eyes met his, not backing down from his stare.
He was momentarily speechless. No one had ever spoken to him that way, ever. Except maybe his wife, but he hardly paid attention to her and her ramblings anyway. This young woman was fiery, and he wasn’t sure if he liked that or not. “I am not here to intimidate you, Ella,” he finally said slowly. “We will see how the rest of the season goes. I want what’s best for my country, that’s all.”
“What’s best for your country is a successor that has it all. If he’s happy AND can run a country with someone that loves him, then I don’t see the problem … sir.” She had forgotten that she was speaking to the king. He could have her gone and back to California in a hot second if he wanted to.
Constantine carefully took in her words and nodded. “Alright, Ella. We’ll see what happens. You have a good night.” He turned and let himself out of the room.
Ella walked over, locked the door and pressed her back up against it. My mouth might get me in some serious trouble here. She finally went to get ready for bed, slipped into the comforter and fell into a deep sleep.
**
Soft, constant knocks on the door woke up Ella the next morning.
“I’m coming … sheesh,” she mumbled, stumbling out of bed and tripped over her comforter that her foot was caught in. “Oh shit!” She shrieked as she hit the ground and the knocking stopped for a second.
“Ella?”
“Um, yes! Just a second!” Real smooth. Ella picked herself up off the ground, threw the stupid comforter on the bed and rushed to the door to open it.
There stood Liam, leaning on the door frame wearing a white polo shirt that outlined his chest and arm muscles perfectly. She roamed her eyes down further to take in the navy blue slacks and brown loafers. Ohmigod. It’s entirely too early to look that good. She inadvertently sucked her bottom lip into her mouth.
Liam cleared his throat and tried to hide a smile when he noticed she was staring. “Good morning, Lady Ella. I wanted to stop by and see you before I headed in to meetings today. May I come in?”
Ella blinked and quickly nodded. She moved aside so he could walk in the door and she closed it behind him. “Good morning, Your Highness. I’m sorry if I-” She was interrupted by Liam’s mouth on hers. Ella strained on the tips of her toes to meet him so she could kiss him back with fervor. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she pushed her tongue into his mouth and he groaned in response.
He could hardly control himself. As soon as he saw her open the door wearing a tank top - she wasn’t wearing a bra, dear God - and the shortest Hello Kitty pajama shorts known to man, his cock jumped in his pants and his mouth watered. She looked like a goddess, with all her dark hair piled on top of her head, and her sleepy disposition; he was so tempted to just take her right then and there. It took all of the effort he could muster to pull away from those soft lips. “I’m sorry, I … really just came to say good morning,” he said in between breaths.
“Sure … you did,” Ella panted and laughed breathlessly.
“I’m not sure I’ll be able to see you much today,” he said sadly. “My father and I have meetings and things to take care of before we leave.” Liam gulped. “Remember, we have to be, somewhat secretive, just until the social season ends,” he gave her a guilty look. He still kept his arms around her, not wanting to let go just yet. “I’m so sorry about this.”
“It’s alright, I knew what all this entailed. And I know you have things to do today. I have some interview that Bertrand set up so … I’ll be doing that,” she smiled up at him.
“I … can text you though, right?” That sounded so pathetic.
Ella giggled. “You’re so cute. Of course you can.”
Their intimate moment was interrupted by loud knocks at the door. “Ellaaaaaaa! Wake up sleepy heeeeead!”
“That must be Maxwell,” Ella whispered and they laughed. Liam leaned down to kiss her one last time before releasing her.
The door flew open. “Good morning sunshine!” Maxwell bounced into the room and stopped short when he saw Liam. “Hey buddy!” He grinned wide at the both of them.
“Good morning Maxwell,” Liam chuckled. “I need to get going, I’ll see you two later.” He grabbed Ella’s hand and squeezed it before walking out into the hallway.
“He came to … visit you huuuuh?” Max wiggled his eyebrows at Ella and she blushed.
“He just came to say good morning, that’s all.”
“Mmmhmmm. Is that what you crazy kids call it these days?”
She rolled her eyes but ignored his question entirely. “Okay, so I’m assuming you’re here to take me to get breakfast?”
“You are correct! Breakfast, the boutique, and then I’m also supposed to prep you for the interview. Bertrand will be here later to prep you some more!”
“Alright, let me get dressed really quick.”
**
45 minutes later, Max and Ella were eating in the dining hall. “So, what are they going to be asking me anyway?”
Max bit off a piece of bacon. “There’s only one person coming from Trend, her name is Ana de Luca. She’s pretty cool actually, the royal family and the nobles trust her with their interviews. Sometimes she brings Donnie Brine with CBC, but I don’t think he’s coming. She will most likely ask you about where you came from, what you did there, how you met the prince, how you feel about the prince, what would set you apart from the other suitors … things like that.” He shoved another piece of bacon in his mouth and washed it down with some coffee.
“Did you guys want me to be truthful or do you have some script for me to follow?”
Maxwell shook his head. “No, no, no, there’s no script. I’m sure Bertrand will want you to say things about House Beaumont … but, just be yourself. They want to know about Ella! So tell them,” he smiled reassuringly at her and continued eating.
A few hours later, after spending an hour in the boutique with Maxwell throwing all kinds of dresses over the fitting room door, she finally found a dress she loved. A black chiffon midi length dress with purple flowers on the bottom, it had an A-line silhouette and short sleeves. It was elegant enough for a daytime interview with the press, and was also Maxwell and Bertrand approved.
Ella sat in her bedroom with Maxwell, listening to him chatter away next to her about his new awesome playlist that he made. She was feeling her stomach twist with nerves, her hands clasped in her lap and she could feel her palms getting sweaty. She heard footsteps come right outside her door and knew it was Bertrand. Ella took a big breath in and let it out slowly. “You ready, Ella?” Max took her hand and squeezed it. “You’re going to do great!”
They both stood and walked out into the hallway meeting Bertrand and a petite woman with blond hair. “Hello,” Ella smiled.
“Hello, Lady Ella I presume?”
“Yes, Ana, allow me to introduce Lady Ella of House Beaumont. Lady Ella, this is Ana de Luca from Trend Magazine.”
Ella and Ana shook hands. “It’s a pleasure, Lady Ella. We are all very curious to know more about you.”
“Wonderful to meet you, Ana. Where are we having this interview?”
“In one of the ballrooms, I’ve had the crew set up already. Follow me.”
The four headed towards one of the open ballrooms, smaller than the other one Ella had seen a week ago. As they rounded the corner, Ella spotted two women coming towards them. One with jet black hair and the other with flaming red hair. The woman with the dark hair just looked at Ella curiously, while the other woman gave her the death stare. As Ana, Bertrand and Maxwell walked into the ballroom, Ella looked back at both women. The redhead walked up to her and snickered. “Well, well, well, look what we have here.”
