like, she’s canonically not that much shorter than Dimistrescu is. She’s enormous, she’s thick, she’s curvy. She’s too wide to fit through a door! She’s a massive super soldier, designed for power and smashing in a va-voom package! so how come people never fixated on her like that?

sure, you might SAY that it was SU’s art style, as opposed to the more realistic designs but... have you SEEN the art styles people like to use around here? Or in any big name series that isn’t live action? The realism of the series is not a concern.

Like, JAsper was REAL popular as a sexygirl icon for a while, for precisely the same reasons I pointed out that Rose ought to have been; she’s big. but Jasper was controversial, for reasons I’ll get into in a bit.

So I think the actual reason, besides the age-old point that people respond differently to characters, comes down to a few details:

1. There is a certain charisma and purity towards villains who are bad and own it, the ones likely to have a card signifying how super evil they are; they laugh and sing songs about how super evil they are. they don’t pretend to be sympathetic, they don’t try to win the audience over with a sad backstory, they’re just unapologetically Bad. and this kind of attitude is a common in the tumblr icon! They’re not without nuance (Sans is an essay all on his own, and Junkrat is what he is because he grew up in an irradiated wasteland and had to be sharp and ruthless to survive), but they’re uncomplicated and fun in their simplicity.

Rose is anything but simple. She’s massively controversial, and that tends to push people off.

2. Rose Quartz, character wise, is not in the best position for this sort of thing. She started out as a distant figure that everyone loved, but no one said much about; we knew NOTHING about her personally. we knew that she fought for Earth, that she loved Greg and Pearl. we knew things she did, things she cared about,  but we didn’t actually know about her personality. Now, if she HAD been, with her goofy and melancholy persona with an edge of perpetual regret mixed with love for the world, she might have been. but again, she was a deeply complicated character, and layered characterization can be difficult to really get into for the sort of things that draw the tumblr sexyman vibe.

Jasper, as implied earlier, works on the same principle. Is she sexy to a bunch of people? Yeah. but while she WAS hugely popular for a while, there were still too many controversial elements for her to pick up in the same way. Universe Challenge Day 10: Pentaversary

Dear Pentagon,

I probably should have made a graphic or something but instead I'm doing a sappy letter a day late. Most of my followers kind of know my pentagon story but if I ever meet you guys (again) I want you to know how much you've made an impact on my life. I first found out about PTG because of 365 So Fresh. Everyone was saying the MV was "so controversial". 365 So Fresh was amazing and I found out about Hui and Edawn whom I fell in love with instantly. When I googled Triple H (which as you can imagine is weird for a WWE fan like myself) I found that Hui and Dawnie were part of PTG. Not long after I found Shine and I can't remember how exactly but I think it might have been randomly recommended in YouTube. When I watched it I thought the song was absolutely amazing and it instantly became one of my fave songs. I was watching it over and over and showing my friends, and just screaming my head off because I loved it so much. 2018 was the year I got to go to my first KCON in New York and you guys were preforming there. That year had one of the best line ups but I swear at least once or twice an hour they were playing Shine, which made me happy. The people I went with weren't the greatest but hearing Shine all the time made me have fun. I even went to a dance workshop to try and learn the chorus dance. Then the concert came and I had never been so excited to hear a song be played live so much in my life. It was the first song you guys did and I have so many videos of me screaming while singing. After KCON I spent the next few days learning who everyone was, watching Pentagon Maker, and binge watching all of the MV's. I quickly grew to love all ten of you so much and you guys were becoming one of my fave groups quickly.

I didn't get to enjoy tentagon that much though as that August after, Edawn was kicked out. Edawn was my bias and I loved him a lot. Like so so so much (I still do btw). He was always so weird and screechy but also was affectionate and cute towards the other members. Everyone compared him to GD but I felt like Dawnie was just...Dawnie. He wasn't anyone else but himself. And hes great at what he does, be it rapping, producing, or dancing. I remember when the rumors were floating around, I just had hope that nothing would go wrong. When it was finalized and I found out that Dawnie had been kicked out I cried. I remember the day exactly. I had to get up early for a dentist appointment. My friend had sent me the article on Facebook and the tears were instant. I cried for so long and my entire heart hurt. I even called my mom to tell her how upset I was and though she didn't understand completely, she knows how important kpop is to me so she tried to comfort me as best as she could. Tentagon will always remind me of the happy times I had at KCON, about the new friends I made on Tumblr, and about helping me reignite my passion for writing and improving myself.

Thumbs up was a hard comeback for me. I didn't like anything about it at all; the styling, the theme, Paul jack, nothing. Though I'm still proud of you guys for barreling through such difficult times to put out a comeback it just made me sad. I know Dawnie wanted you guys to continue being successful but it hurt to see tentagon disbanded (but not forgotten). I always thought about Dawnie and Hui because they were so close. I would always picture Hui crying over Dawnie having to leave, move out, and maybe feeling guilty because I'm certain he knew they were dating. But Hui is a great friend and I know that he's happy for them and Dawnie is happy for all his brothers as well.

It used to hurt hearing 'Tentastic' but now it's a sweet reminder that tentagon will be forever.

Fast forward a bit and you guys announced your first world tour! I knew instantly that I wanted to go and see you perform again! I got VIP and hi touch because I couldn't live without seeing you guys up close (ok, Im being dramatic but you get the picture). I was so excited that I literally almost threw up 4 times. I didn't even know that you could throw up from excitement. I also got my very first lightstick. I don't normally like lightsticks but I felt like I definitely needed a pentagon one. The concert was so amazing and I cried so many times; seeing yuto smile, dying because the havana performance was so sexy, uptown funk being so fun, shinwon and hui's English getting better, Yeo one waving at me, and of course seeing my bias Hognseok being perfectly beautiful. It was easily in one of my top 5 favorite concerts. I was nervous to do hi touch, especially because it went by so fast. I will forever remember looking at Kino and telling him how beautiful he was (is). And him telling me thank you was like...I don't know. I fangirled a lot ok? Lol. And hongseoks smile was....😭😭😭

After that I think I finally admitted that PTG is my ult group. Through everything that we've gone through as universes and you guys as a group, we've come out stronger than ever.

I love yuto for how shy you are but so very affectionate around your brothers and how you tried very hard to be an idol so far from home. (And also that voice♥️)

hm well skam nl is my favorite and their social media game is trash LMAOOO so generally No but i do feel like remakes who DO have such a good presence kind of elevate the show and i think it’s pretty heartwarmin to see some remakes go sm farther than skam with social media and puttin out educational and IN CHARA resources like skames does this so well and i feel like in that way, the team is really really spreadin skam’s spirit via these resources (like joana’s billion bpd awareness ig accounts and lucas rubio’s yt channel)

IJXDWQOIJJ yes .... remakes-wise, people hate skam nl s2’s last half but i enjoyed it for the most part ... i think the pacing was off for the last ep but personally, clip 50 made up for it and is p god tier imo ..... and also don’t think the first half of ep10 is enough to discredit the entire season bc i rlly loved seeing liv’s pov and have sm fave moments from the season 

but skam wise, omg might get a lil controversial w this one IM SORRY !!! im bein honest and its Just my opinion ok 

personally s2 got me more invested than s1 and i don’t think its a super bad season like i didnt really say many problems wrong with it until i got on tumblr wiejioqjoiqjq i was sort of interested in the questions that the noora/william dynamic brought up which is, as expressed in william’s war speech to noora, that nothing is ever black/white which i feel was a huge message and feeds into the ‘you never know what ppl are going through’ theme of the season ... like i like the idea of someone like noora, who can have a black/white mentality (as seen in the first clip of s2 when she tells vilde that they can’t have the tannin company as their sponsor bc they objectify women or smth but misses the context and what it could mean for the bus monetarily bc shes caught up in bein ‘woke’) having to break out of that and see more than one side ... and i think remakes like skam austin expanded on this idea well like when zoya was like ‘must be so nice being right all the time’ which i Do feel like is an important for youth to know today .... bc i think its so easy to get caught up in the idea of being so objectively right and morally superior that people lose sight of the more nuanced characteristics to life ... (omg long ramble BUT)

also LMAOOOOO this one might be more controversial as it pertains to bench scene s4 ok oops again doNT GOTTA AGREE !! ........ but i feel like the scene had a lot of good intentions ... i was def kind of cringing a bit tho bc i understand the subject’s sensitivity and how these topics are hard to talk about but i genuinely feel like they both made Some points and should listen to each other .... like as Hard and as maybe ‘unwoke’ it is to admit, unfortunately you sort of do have to answer the tough questions bc that way we learn from each other .... and i perfectly understand why some ppl wouldn’t want to do this and i certainly am tired abt havin to answer shit abt my sexuality or stupid male questions abt women but if u dont answer them, people do go lookin for answers still and the internet is such a shitty place that its pretty easy (esp with youtube’s algorithm) to lead you to ignorant ppl and perhaps radicalization .... questions help us to better understand our community and sometimes they can have good intentions too but we have to ask and answer them or else people will make up answers (which ive literally seen and its honestly worse to see fake as shit and UNINFORMED answers bc ppl did not want to ask you or ppl of ur identity, esp when they’re already startin from a place of hate .... but i rather have ppl ask me patronizing questions than have them spread false info bc that can do much more harm in the long run) however i DO think that isak should also consider sana’s side and i sort of wish we saw him conceding more bc they both have smth to learn from one another, like sana shouldn’t just be learnin from isak, isak needs to learn from sana too

omg honestly too much to write here tbh ..... but if it says anythin im (very slowly) in the works of a three part skam essay about basically how skam teaches us to be better humans and how to better treat the people we care about diowjqioj essentially the three biggest themes of the show: you never know what someone is going through so always be kind, always communicate with your friends, and no person is ever alone and i feel like these are definitely rlly good messages to live by (also livet er nå BITCH !!!)

im currently deciding what to sing for that audition (considering ruby by woozi, but if anything, it's someone you loved). it is, in fact, really sad that by the time i first got into kpop, idols at my current age would be at their first years of training, but nowadays they're already debuting. there's so much about it, but i don't have the energy to discuss :)

feel like im just rambling, but?? im in a moment of my life where i don't have much say in what happens it's so annoying? like, the choices im making usually end up bad, and i know this is part of life and maturing, but... it's just so frustrating.

im currently being pushed to go to a military college (idk how it seems to you or how it is where you live, but here these colleges are really controversial. i was reading their rules and i cannot have piercings? and i just got my ear piercings like 5 months ago. im pretty sure i can't take them off yet, but i'll prob be forced to 😔)

and what you said about age is so true. i do have (fortunately) options of where and what to work with if my main plains don't work, but it is so uuugh that we feel useless when we're actually so young. again, where i live is super common for young adults to stay in their parent's house till they're like 25, or even older, so im luckier in that aspect, but it does feel odd (i get judged by some of my family members for living with my mom and grandma, even if they want me to stay with them? like?)

it's even more frustrating that, because of my age, if my plans of working with music don't go well this year, i'll most prob have to change ways and forget it. it's really painful to see that you won't be able to do what you love the most, it just strikes deep and hard (i've been breathing music for my whole life, but odds are just against me).

Just to connect to what you said, I might mention vaguely some things that have been happening to me: in my country you choose your career path (high school) when you're still in middle school, at the lovely age of 12/13, when you don't even know a thing about life at all. And back then I blindly chose to focus my studies on Sciences, even though I've always been way better at languages and music. I obviously am suffering the consequences now, as I'm in my 3rd year of uni (which is also technically my last year but because of reasons I'm not graduating soon so lol) AND IT HIT ME— way too many similar messages were surrounding me more than usual recently, and, with a heavy heart, I decided to face myself for once and actually listen to what I wanted to do. The conclusion (still working on it rn) is that I'm dropping out in order to start a completely new path in September. Was I actually forced to choose Sciences in uni too? No, but I admit back then I felt quite pressured by the idea of changing fields so quickly and by the idea of being judged by others. Will I be surrounded by students that are a couple of years younger than me? Yes. Will many of my peers graduate while I'm barely on my first year? Also yes. But who cares? I will be doing something I'm good at, something I'm genuinely interested in, and something that will bring joy TO ME.

I know really well society and overall others' thoughts affect us in such a confusing way, but sweetheart, if music is what you're meant to be doing, keep working towards this goal. Don't toss it aside, keep the passion and interest alive and even if it might not be your main field now, who knows what the future reserves for us? You might get noticed by other companies, maybe not in the kpop industry but still in the music one! Keep going sweetie, I'm always cheering for you!!! I know it can be disappointing, frustrating and all (been there many many times) but don't give up as you might be even ONE step away from your goal!

THE ALBUM YES. so ive been looking forward to it for literally months, this is actually my first skz album release as a stay (since the last on was 9 months ago) i was sitting there hitting refresh on my spotify the second 6pm kst came around. (speaking of which, how did you do the release? i couldnt decide whether to watch or listen first but i ended up on listening cos there would be more material) okay: so cheese was super cool, very skz ya know? tho i almost wish theyd made domino the title track, tho obv it was a more experimental track and would have been a bit controversial (much like whistle for bp) i looooved domino and thunderous was absolutely impeccable. all the songs were amazing but standouts were- secrets, secrets which lowkey made me tear up idk why, red lights which almost killed me (it did not have to go that hard, but it did) and OT8 WOLFGANG omgggg i wasnt sure if hyunjin was going to be included in it but i was hoping and, ya know people had said hed be in there, but the further i got in, the less i was sure and then BAM hyunjin started what had been jisung's part and i just sat there grinning for about 5 minutes. surfin was absolutely adorable and gone away almost made me cry AGAIN. star lost was so touching, almost a nod to hyunjins little star? silent cry was relatable beyond anything. SSICK was funny? for some reason I was laughing while it was playing, idk the combination of added cheering and minhos aggressiveness and the totall seriousness they sung it. but i rlly enjoyed it. sorry i love you showcased their vocals like nothing else. the view is THE BOP of 2021, absolutely going to be stuck in my head for the next decade, that hook is genius. what did you think?

oh yeah, abt quarantine having an effect. my friend and i talked about this earlier actually. i didn't realize the world was moving so fast until the pandemic happened. being in quarantine gave me time to think and i got to know myself more. it's just the sole good thing i got out of the isolation lmao. and abt my strict parents, ironically i got to go out today so i got to hang out with a few of my bestfriends. i had fun but my legs are a bit sore from walking. but they're a different set of friends. i'll get to hang out with the others when my getaway driver comes home in december.
