for months now i have had this little story idea bouncing around in my head for an AU of Jetpack Joyride where Barry is stuck inside a big expermental time loop conducted by Legitimate Research to create an army of randomly selected time-travelling soldiers. the idea is very much still rough and i dunno if and when i'll develop it into a bigger thing, but it's a pretty cool idea and it's a twist on the JJ game that i've never really seen much exploration on.

basically, it focuses on Barry, who is the sort of Patient Zero of an experimental concentrated time-fuckery technology LR is working on. every single day, at exactly the same time, Barry goes out to work his salesman job, discovers the jetpack, breaks into the laboratory, takes it for a joyride, eventually gets hit by an obstacle and dies. the next day, Barry goes out to work his salesman job, discovers the jetpack, breaks into the lab, takes it for a joyride and dies. and he does the same exact thing the next day, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day... he's pretty much stuck in a loop of the exact same events happening repeatedly every single day, and he has absolutely no idea about it. that is, until there's a glitch in the system, and Barry progressively becomes a lot more suspicious and paranoid about the situation he's in. the rest of this post is gonna be REALLY spoilery (like i literally just explain big important chunks of the story for several paragraphs) if i ever make this into a full-fledged fanfic, so i'm gonna put it under a keep reading thingy. also it is... quite long and convoluted lol.

as the story goes on, it focuses more on the mental degredation of Barry as he starts uncovering all these weird clues, slowly trying to piece together what's going on and driving himself insane, because every time a reset occurs, his memory of the previous loop ever happening is completely wiped and everything he did that day goes all the way back to square one. since the malfunctioning of LR's technology though, Barry has been getting little nuggets of deja vu and half-remembered fragments of dying before a reset. this eventually becomes him repeating things to himself, little phrases and codes over and over and over in hopes that it will persist into the next reset. this eventually becomes symbols stuck up on the walls of his room and then progresses to entire rituals to help him remember and little behaviourisms like tics and stims to let him know he's in another loop. he becomes more and more panicked and unsettled, paranoid that someone - or something - is watching him closely. additionally, he keeps having disturbing dreams in the early hours of the morning before he gets up to go to work, ones that are symbolic and prophetic, as if they're trying to warn him about something. i've had concepts of him waking up on top of a pile of millions of mangled carcasses that all look exactly like Barry, and having on them them forcefully grab onto his leg and pull him down with the rest of them. it's kinda like the nightmare Woody has in Toy Story 2, but like, dead guys everywhere, lol.

the backstory of this whole thing is kinda insane. basically, Legitimate Research is a sketchy government funded facility that's doing secret time experiments to create the strongest beings for a purpose that's somewhat similar to Brains' Zomb Bomb plan from AOZ (i haven't fully decided yet). Barry is someone who has been randomly selected for their newest version of the concentrated time loop experiment, where patients will be put under looping tests to extract data about their strength, agility and performance and decide what they need to supplement them with in order to create the perfect soldier.

Barry was 22 years old when he was selected. he was actually a relatively normal local Fish N' Chips vendor living in New South Wales, but one day, when he recieved an exciting letter in the mail about a new ambitious job opportunity, he completely disappeared without a trace and seemed to have been entirely erased from the minds of everyone he had ever known. Barry had actually been kidnapped and ensnared into a mind-experiments facility of the laboratory, where they proceeded to wipe his mind, proof of his existence and his entire personhood up to this point, and replaced all of it with fake memories to fill in the gaps. he was then placed in stasis and to be injected with high doses of strength drugs as they crafted a new life for him behind the scenes. a new house, in a new state, all with new stories and memorabilia meant to be lived out by new person. now, he was Barry Steakfries in Queensland, a rough-around-the-edges guy with a passion for action movies and destruction. he was a revel with a thirst for chaos and freedom, but he just didn't have the means to achieve it yet. it was all according to plan.

a big part of the story i want to tell that involves him is that at some point, Barry tries to break free from the time loop by doing something different. this takes a lot of pre-planning, memory rituals and repeating details to himself, but after he wakes up from a reset and gets out of bed, he hesitates, choosing to go to a different place to sell his gramophones that day. he deliberately tries his best to avoid Legitimate Research's headquarters as much as he can, and while he doesn't completely remember why he's doing it, he has a deep gut feeling that he should stay away from them at all costs. so he does. and at first, it goes well. the day is different, his choices seem to actually matter and for once, the feeling of deja vu isn't tearing him apart... until a crazy freak accident happens that forces Barry to die and reset the time loop again, wiping away everything he had done that day. Legitimate Research is now forcefully trying to stop him from knowing what the hell is going on by forcing him to die with each now discovery he makes, and Barry has to figure out more and more creative solutions to averting their surveillance and trying to get the hell out of the loop.

Craig will also be involved with the story too!! i'm not exactly sure what exactly the events leading up to Barry discovering and meeting him would be, but it'd be kinda halfway-late-ish into the story where Barry manages to cut off LR's surveillance of him, breaks into the laboratory and searches through its archives for anything relating to time. during this raid, he accidentally discovers the true Patient Zero to this time experiment: a broken, decrepit shell of a man who has been hooked up to a set of wires and locked away deep into the laboratory, never meant to be discovered by anyone, only known simply as #000 'Craig'. Craig was the very first human they used to run an early prototype of these experiments, but through malfunctions in the threads of LR's technology, he ended up knowing too much and tried to break free from his time loop, which resulted in him being dragged out of reality and becoming completely detached from his own time, stopping his aging process completely and practically allowing him to exist forever and persistently through every reset unaffected. LR relocated him and considered him a catastrophic failure, locking him away in a cell deep in the bowels of the laboratory before destroying and erasing every archive of him ever having existed in any point in time. and now, the same thing is about to happen to Barry if he doesn't figure out a way to stop what's happening quickly. Barry, outisde of LR, is the only one who is aware of Craig's existence in this timeline. Barry makes a vow to make sure that he will never ever forget Craig, no matter what happens to him, no matter how many times his timeline gets reset, because he is the only other person on the whole world who truly understands what he's going through.

at the very end of the story, when Barry finally escapes the time loop and is about to enter into a new reality where none of this ever happened, he reaches out a hand to Craig and offers he come with him to live. Craig, however, rejects the offer, sadly confessing to Barry that because of his disconect from the threads of time progression itself, Craig must stay behind and be erased along with everything inside this one and let Barry live his life. Barry protests, insisting that his life wouldn't be complete without him and that they've already gone through so much together, but Craig assures him that this is the best for the both of them, and that Barry must leave him soon before the window to escape closes. Barry gives Craig once last goodbye, holding him close and basking in his presence for the final time. he closes his eyes, presses his head against Craig's and whispers "I promise I'll never forget you." before he slowly lets him go, not breaking their locked gaze on each other for even a second as he steps into the portal and ventures into an entirely new reality, never to return.

i want there to be an epilogue part where Barry starts his new life and goes looking for a place to stay, and he comes across the place where LR used to be, which is instead occupied with a big square fence plot and a sign that says "UNDER CONSTRUCTION: NEW RESTAURANT TO BE BUILT". Barry stares at it for a moment and reflects on everything that has happened. all the hellish experiments that were once held inside this very plot of land, all the trauma he went through to get to this point, Craig's sacrifice, everything has lead up to him standing here, in the right place, at the right time, to finally live the life he should've had to begin with. eventually, he turns away, continuing to walk down the street. he should go check that place out sometime.

Oh gosh I’m so sorry anon, life’s been so chaotic that I completely forgot about your ask! But I am here now to help :)

I will say off the bat that I’m v much a trial and error kinda gal/look things up on YouTube lmao so I’m self taught in pretty much everything I know with photoshop (aside from a few helpful tips while at uni) so I’ll try and list some things that I find quick and easy to use when editing:

Templates in general tend to come pretty organised with layers names etc so it’s easier to navigate, but I also always recommend NAMING YOUR LAYERS!!! It saves SO much time and even grouping them into relevant sections (groups) can really help navigate the layers panel (especially when you get to 200+ layers like me lmao)

I always edit the resolution of my documents when creating them to be at least 100px (pixels) because then the final design is higher quality! That being said; that’ll depend on your computers RAM capacity and how much of it is used by photoshop - my desktop has A LOT of RAM cus it was custom built, but laptops etc have a lot less (otherwise it’ll make the app glitch and crash essentially)

I use the magic wand tool religiously lmao - it may not be the most perfect outline but if I’m gonna edit the image more afterwards, just getting the background out the way first helps a lot! (Using the layer effect drop down will also give you options of ‘multiply’, ‘screen’ and ‘overlay’ plus a bunch more to add effects to your layers, but a quick way of removing a white bg from a layer is to use ‘screen’ and it’ll auto remove it! Careful tho cus sometimes it removes TOO MUCH of the image aha)

If that tool doesn’t work for you then the ‘colour select’ option in one of the drop downs will do the same thing but will select every bit of colour on the document that you select - ie if you click on the white background, it’ll also pick up every other bit of white on the document so keep that in mind (I apologise that I’m not more specific, I’m writing this on my phone and haven’t got photoshop open)

For text layers, I ALWAYS turn off the ‘hyphenate’ tick box in the text box settings! Hyphenate is more for professional documentation/printed work, so for template edits and personal use I always turn it off cus it makes it look weird imo (the text box settings will open up on the right when you click on your text, so just scroll down a little until you get to the paragraph settings and there’ll be a little ‘…’ to show more options and it’ll be in there!)

CLIPPING MASKS ARE A LIFE SAVER!! On your layers panel, if you have a shape drawn out (ie a square for example) and you add an image/colour layer/literally any kind of layer on top and move the mouse to the line between the 2 layers and click ALT, it’ll add the clipping mask so the layer on top is only visible within the shape underneath! Works for filter layers as well as images in general etc PLUS they stack!

For templates specifically it’s a lot of fiddling until things sit nicely with one another for me, but one thing I use often is PSD filter packs that you can download! Lots are on tumblr and deviantart etc but you should always credit who you use, unless you make them yourself! They help tie a design together so all the colours match!

I also like using the ‘blending mode’ options on the layers panel. So when you right click a layer - it’ll give you the ‘blending mode’ option at the top and that allows you to add shadows/gradients/texture and a bunch of other stuff to that specific layer!! Including ‘stroke’ outlines around the edge of your layer!

I ALWAYS save my PSD files separate to the final product in case I wanna edit them, and I will export any final designs as an image!! For highest quality in your exports use PNGs!! JPEGs reduce the quality SO much so always go with PNGs but if you don’t want a transparent background, make sure you untick ‘transparent’ in the export window!

There’s plenty more tools to use on photoshop, but I recommend just creating a blank document, adding a bit of text and an image and just playing around with it!! You’ll discover so many new ways of doing things and ways that suit you!

HOW TO FORMAT YOUR REPLY ON MOBILE

As we all know, this hellsite doesn't support the html formatting on new post editor mobile regardless of our mobile browser, meaning that we can't either get our replies to keep an aesthetic or even trim our replies like those who uses their desktop for such... until now.

On March 17th, @rpclefairy blessed us with her amazing tutorial on how to trim blogs on mobile which is truly amazing and helpful. But, there was one problem. The trimming method in that tutorial isn't the same as xkit since it doesn't save your partner's reply formatting and such. With that in mind I, as a main mobile RPer, did some research on the matter and found out an easy method to save you some time!

This blog will be separated in three topics: small preparation, basic formatting and complex formatting (with icons!) and it's an easy to medium difficulty tutorial, depending on your needs.

Small preparation

We don't get to spend every day of our lives in the same computer since things gets to happen and we have to drive away from it. With that in mind, there's a small list of things you should have in your phone:

Notepad with all the spacing and cute emojis for your aesthetic

A trustworthy website for your custom font

A few icons of your preference exported to your gallery or make your own small set of icons via your mobile!

This step is optional, but if you have a set of post headers, you can always save the 'Answered' banner and a divider, if you have one!

Keep in mind that if you pick to make a small set of icons on your phone, it doesn't have to be that complex like the ones you did on your computer! But you can use this neat trick to keep the aesthetic!

Basic formatting

With everything ready, first you need to pick your partner's reply to do the trick; but it will get difficult based on your partner's style of formatting. For this tutorial, I'll be using my own rp blog since I have a diversity of mutuals.

If their formatting doesn't go further than the one used in rich text editor and they doesn't have any icons (also if your writing style matches theirs), then this'll be the easiest way to do!

Using your main browser or tumblr app, open your partner's reply, copy their reply (I suggest using your browser to copy their reply if it's more than one paragraph of length), add your own and save as draft.

Following clefairy's tutorial you will open Puffin browser (links in her tutorial as well for both android and iOS), open your partner's reply, tap lightly on the blog to remove the previous reblogs and save as draft. It'll look like this:

If there's a weird spacing in the bottom like mine, you can fix it now as well as the double blockquote glitch but I suggest you wait to fix this little issue in your normal browser.

Going back to your main browser, you can now open your drafted reply to see if everything seems alright and fix a thing here and there! If there's a top reblog, just remove it again.

Complex formatting

Now, let's say you are the type of roleplayer that always uses icons and colored text and your partner's reply has spacing and colored text. Following what I said above, you can also add your icon in your body reply that it'll automatically convert itself in a link, so there's no worry about that!

In your browser, you'll open your partner's reply before you trim it away and copy everything from the reply, then trim it. Now, open byluna's color text generator and paste your text. But be aware that it won't work correctly unless you select the third paste option with a W on it. Activating desktop mode is not necessary.

After you format everything in your partner's reply (you can also do the same on yours) there's a container below the text box with the html coding. Click Copy to Clipboard and paste everything in your drafted post and boom, you're set!

Now, let's say that both you and your partner (or only them) uses icons/dividers together with formatted text. There's two ways to do that, but both get in the same result.

After drafting their reply, if your phone supports opening an app on divided screen, you can use both your browser and Puffin at the same time. It's the same as using your computer or two monitors, let's say. This is how it looks on my phone:

Opening byluna's text generator in your main browser (or on Puffin), you can do the same trick of copying your partner's reply and paste it after opening a blockquote, but do not copy the icon too or it'll be contained and glitch your code! Instead, open your partner's icon in a separated tab and copy the link (do the same with yours), hit the little image button and paste the image url.

If your phone cannot divide like mine or you have no clue how to do so, it's not that complicated to do but it takes a little bit longer.

Before drafting your partners reply, save their icons/borders to your gallery and add them to your reply body. You can add your own as well with your reply if you wish. I suggest doing it twice for the sake of trimming only the one you are going to post afterwards.

After you trim one of the posts, go back to your main browser and copy the image link presented in the code of your draft.

Open your text generator and add your image via image url (shown below)

Format everything as you please and you're done!

You spent your entire free period up on that roof, hoping by some miracle that you weren’t crazy, that the group of second-year students that had seemingly vanished before your eyes were in fact pranking you, and upon seeing that you weren’t amused, would get tired of hiding and pop out, finishing the surprise. No such luck, however, and so you left, the second-period bell forcing your hand. Spending the first period of your day - a bit of free time meant for studying, finishing homework, or otherwise enriching yourself educationally - up on the roof and unaccounted for by any teachers was a bit risky already, and you were a decent enough student. There was no way you could just sit there all day, skipping the rest of your classes. Sighing, you resolved to just give up the hunt for your destined main character and by extension the group of potential new friends.

Often after school, you headed to the library, which stayed open along with a select few other areas of Shujin for student use after the last bell rang. Today, however, you felt drawn back to that place, back to that rooftop where you’d seen Akira, Ryuji, and Ann disappear hours earlier. It just wasn’t sitting right with you; you felt a stirring in your soul, like a tiny voice in your head, a shimmering blue butterfly in your stomach. Lucky for you, the rooftop was also open, though you’d never really spent time there. Certain students, including another third-year you admired raised plants up there where the sun could reach them, while others simply came up there for the view or the breeze, some private space to study.

Today, the breeze was indeed blowing, and you sat there writing as it whistled past your ears, polishing up some plot points, scrawling down ideas for your protagonist straight from the imagination, since it seemed you wouldn’t be finding any real-life inspiration anytime soon. It was frustrating, writer’s block, and for the past month or so, it’s all you could do to write a single paragraph. You always found yourself lost in the pages of the novels you loved, and you could identify great writing, appreciate the artistry of another writer, but it was sometimes so hard to put your own thoughts down on the pages of your journal. Why was it so hard? You knew what real romance was. You knew which themes and cliches were overdone and unrealistic. You had a mature and healthy outlook on real relationships and could pick apart the stereotypical female protagonist who was strong and independent until she met the man who would break down her walls or the toxic bad boy who women loved on paper but would cry their eyes out over in real life. You’d read thousands of books and fan-fiction, listened to hundreds of audiobooks, watched tons of romance movies, so why, lately, was it not clicking?! Where was the disconnect between having thoughts and transcribing said thoughts down into your very own masterpiece? Fantasy came so easily to you, sci-fi, non-fiction essays for class, mysteries, research papers, but romance, the genre you loved the most, seemed to purposely elude you.

You were shaken out of your frazzled state when something caught your attention out of the corner of your eye. Shaking your head a bit to try and focus your vision, you looked over your shoulder to see that the black spot on the fringe of your blind spot was in fact actually there. You rubbed your eyes just to be sure, but there it was, a wavering black inky spot hovering in the air. Another appeared, then another, now red in color. You were beginning to feel insane for the second time that day, but rather safe than sorry, you quickly stood, shoving your work and pencils into your bag and shuffling away from the blobs, which were now oscillating and dancing around each other, phasing in and out of existence like a fisheye lens. This was a bit too freaky for your liking, and you were beginning to feel a frightening chill up your spine. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up, and you elected to put some kind of barrier of safety between yourself and the floating bubbles. Like any rational person, your mind was screaming “unknown situation: possible threat: run!” but again, that little butterfly in the pit of your guts was saying there was something worth staying for. So, running to the door to the roof, you swung it open, a ringing in your ear starting to buzz and chime. You closed it frantically, pressing your nose up against the small glass windows that allowed a limited view of the roof. A small gasp escaped your lips, and you instinctively grabbed onto your bag a bit tighter.

The red and black splotches began to dissipate and fade like some kind of glitch in reality, and three figures appeared like mist, like ghosts before beginning to solidify and slowly become tangible silhouettes. Then, as if some kind of magic ritual was coming to a close, the figures poofed into existence, and your brain processed the scene before you.

“Holy shit…” you whispered. There, clear as day were Sakamoto, Takamaki, and the new kid. They were just standing adjusting their clothes, stretching their arms and legs, situating their personal items. It was just then that you saw a little furry head poke up out of Akira’s school bag. Your harsh, analytical gaze softened a bit upon seeing the small black cat that appeared. Had he been carrying that cat around all day? Surely not, right? How would he keep it quiet and still? “What the…?” The inquisitive glare returned to your features when they began… speaking to the cat. It wasn’t the cute baby talk people often use with their pets, either. It was a full-on, serious conversation, and the cat was meowing back, clearly, in response to their statements.

It was a bit muffled by the thick door, but you could make out bits and pieces.

 Metaverse? Palace. Shadows... treasure? Kamoshida? Great, that asshole, but what could he have to do with this? What even was this? 

You were questioning everything you knew. You were wondering if the juice you had this morning at breakfast was spiked. There was no winning in this scenario, either you were crazy, or these kids were. You looked downward, contemplating your navel as your mind tried to make sense of the events of today. You glanced up again, trying to eavesdrop a little better, get some more detail. You took a step closer, trying to will the sound of their voices through the door to be just a little louder, just a little clearer, when Sakamoto suddenly pivoted, stretching and cracking his spine with a sigh.

“Gah!”  You shouted out. His eyes met yours through the window and widened like a kid caught in the cookie jar. You jumped with a start, taking a cautionary step back and nearly tumbling down the stairs. It was a miracle you caught yourself in time, but your little outburst had definitely caught the attention of the group. Your cover was thoroughly blown. “Oh, no…” You cursed under your breath, spotting both Ann and Akira’s eyes on you now as well.

“Shit! Do you think they saw?” Ryuji’s hands flew to his hair, mussing and working out his frustrations on the dyed strands while simultaneously, Akira was already in motion, rushing toward the door to apprehend the unwelcome listener.

Your heartbeat sped up, and like a gazelle spotted by a lion, a fire was lit under you and you began to sprint, clumsily fumbling down the stairwell and onto the flat platform where the stairs rotated 90 degrees and continued downward. Inhaling sharply, your foot, nervous and supporting jelly-like legs, missed the final step. Your belongings, along with your body, spilled across the square, flat platform, and the door behind you slammed open.

“Hey!” Akira’s yell echoed through the stairwell, and your thoughts bounced off the walls just like his voice. Scrambling, you scooped only the essentials into your hands: your journal, the phone of course, a few homework binders, ditching the easily replaceable items like chewing gum and pencils. Taking to one scraped-up knee and ready to bolt, you felt a hand close upon your bicep and clamp down firmly. “Hey, hey… slow down.” Akira again, now gentler with his tone, spun you around to face him. You stood clutching your things to your chest like a life preserver. “I’m not gonna like… kill you or anything.” A breathy chuckle, and now he was on the platform next to you, scanning you up and down for injuries with his hands in his pockets. “So, uh… so don’t kill yourself by fallin’ down these stairs, huh?” He played off the tense feeling in the air with humor, but the sheer proximity of him, standing there in front of you mere inches away in the cramped space, it was like you could hear your blood pounding in your ears.

What was he thinking right now? Did he think you were some weirdo stalker? I mean, you’d just met him this morning and now you were watching him through a small window like a creep after school… after following him there. Wait, that wasn’t important right now! Was he going to kill you? He didn’t seem like the type of guy to do that, but then again, he didn’t seem like the type to phase in and out of existence either… neither did Ryuji and Ann… what were people with powers like that capable of?

Right now, you were just going to mind your business, and play it safe. It wasn’t worth getting mixed up with people who warp through a “metaverse” and talk to animals just for some good writing material, not if it turned out to be dangerous.

“Well…” you hesitated, “it’s none of my business, what I just saw, and I won’t tell anyone.” You breathed a little easier, tried to regain your composure, to not look too weak.

“So they did see! Awww, shit!” Ryuji’s head popped through the door, interrupting the uncomfortable conversation, and the hot air of the enclosed space was cut through by a gust of wind from the now open rooftop door.

“Now, just hold on, Ryuji,” Akira held out one hand to placate his rather temperamental friend.

“No, no really it’s fine that you talk to your… cat and just… vanish... and I’m sure it’s all fine and multiverse-y and…”

“Metaverse.” Akira corrected you with a small smile, bending down to pick up the rest of your scattered objects.

“Dude!” Ryuji ran a hand down his face in defeat.

“They saw us, no point in being tight-lipped,” he stood, handing them to you.

“Metaverse… right,” you took them, watching every move he made carefully. “Sorry, I’m… a bit more... eloquent in my writing,” you moved to the side, ready to sneak past and descend the rest of the stairs. Anything to get on with your day and escape this unbelievable situation. Akira shuffled, mirroring you and completely blocking the stairwell. There was something clever about him, something sharp and charismatic. He knew exactly what he was doing, what he wanted to achieve, and he knew how to calmly and smoothly execute his plans, unlike Sakamoto, who was far less… organized.

“Writing…?” He was keeping you locked into this conversation, as gently and amiably as he could, and you were not leaving until he was sure he could trust your word.

“Uh… yeah, that’s why I was up…” your eyes met his, quickly recoiling and looking toward the floor again, “...up on the roof. I was just looking for a quiet place to write.”

“What, uh, what kind of stuff do you write?” Ann had now joined Ryuji at the top of the stairs, leaving you feeling completely caged in. Ann threw Akira - who seemed like the leader of the small band of misfits - a desperate glance, a sort of look that seemed to ask: “Where are you going with this? Are we screwed?”

“It’s… it’s kind of private. It’s just… romance stuff. I don’t know, I do all kinds of different stuff, whatever I’m in the mood for.” Akira nodded, more to his friends than you, something you had a feeling you weren’t supposed to pick up on. He stuck his hand out flat, gesturing toward the rooftop behind you. You took the hint, heading a bit anxiously back up the stairs, Ryuji and Ann making way for you.

“You any good?” Akira followed behind you, and now on the rooftop once again, the cool air felt freeing, less constricting, though his question felt a bit insulting, a bit nosey.

“I don’t know… I’ve been told I am…” The three friends took a seat in areas that seemed very familiar to them, like they’d been up here warping in and out of this realm many times before. Now settled into place, Ann spoke up, obviously as apprehensive as you were:

“Well do you… do you think…?” Her high-pitched voice seemed to be hesitant, not yet confident in her next words, not sure if they were all on the same page.

“Yeah, my thoughts exactly,” Akira smirked as if the three had one mind. He turned to you, trying to make eye contact that you vehemently avoided. “How would you feel about helping us out?”

I’m a little shit when it comes to replies, seriously I am. Sometimes I can spew out reply after reply within minutes of each other, and sometimes I will go days without a single one. It’s called life. Sometimes I’m not feeling good, or my mood is too sour. Maybe I’m struggling to come up with a reply I find suitable and really want to take my time and make sure it’s right. I do not mind having multiple threads with the same mun. Whether that be your muses RP’s with several of mine, several of mine RP with multiple of yours or even if you have more than one blog but want to RP with me on each one. I’m down for that.

I’m a huge lover of shipping. Seriously I am. Ship with me you cowards! But, there does have to be some chemistry between the muses, I have to be able to see that they can go down that path together. If I ship something, that doesn’t mean you have to and if you ship something doesn’t mean I will either. Don’t force anything on me but do tell me if you ship our muses. I probably do too. Plus, there isn’t just romantic ships! Platonic, familial, frienemies, all that good stuff. I love all of that and so much more!

I can do pre-established relationships (not romantically at all though (usually)) but we as muns have to discuss it first to see if the muses can even be on such terms with one another.

I am open to pretty much every kind of plot you can think of. Seriously, I am! So don’t be afraid to approach me on that either if you want a specific genre.

Let your muse, be your muse. Don’t change them simply to suit the RP. If your muse is a jerk but you feel sorry for mine because they are sweet, don’t make them nicer so that you don’t feel guilty. If your muse is flirty, but mine isn’t having it, oh well. That’s how they are and my muse is more than capable of handling themselves.

I do not care if you take forever on your reply, I really don’t. As I already said, I’m bad with that myself. So don’t stress it, take your time!

You are NOT just a number in my follower count, I promise you that. So, if we’re mutuals, even if it takes me forever, eventually I will reach out to you. Most likely with a meme. However, I will say this much, I generally give a limit of three asks to start an interaction. This means I the first two icebreaker memes I send in that aren’t answered will be given the benefit of the doubt by thinking maybe you didn’t get them or the ask didn’t work or maybe the muse wasn’t good. Each one I send will likely contain a different muse and scenario to give you options. But after three asks are sent to try and break the ice between us and none are answered, I will assume you don’t have an interest in rping with me and will soft block because I don’t see a point in us being mutuals if you’re not interested in rping.

There will be times when I drop threads, there will be times that I don’t answer an ask you sent in, and times that I’m really not good at talking to others ooc. This is nothing against you. Generally, I really only don’t answer asks that just won’t work with anyone (rarely, is what I am saying). If I do these, we can always start a new thread, you can always send another ask which I will be more than likely to answer and if I don’t respond via chat or discord, just give me some time. I am multiship (for the most part because some muses are selective few ship, it says it in their information if they are) but certain muses have their main verse and then they also have their canon verse which is not the same. If for any reason, you wish to be involved in their canon verse, it would have to be thoroughly discussed between us and then I’d have to discuss it with another mun who is involved with the canon verse muses.

I have a very broad range of muses from the most innocent and sweets ones to the worst of the worst. They also range from completely normal humans to vampires, lycanthropes and much much more. But having muses like this means there will likely be a lot of triggering content. I will try to tag it but if I’m being honest, I suck at it.

Will contain NSFW content as well (though certain parts of that NSFW I’m very picky about). Smut is something that will likely take place on here eventually, though not very often. I just generally prefer to do morning afters and all that good stuff.

I do crack/shit post, I do a have quite a bit of ooc posts, I do dash commentary at times too.

If you send your male muse at me, it will likely be responded with by a female muse. This is NOT for shipping purposes. This is because I’ve had a bad experience before where even though my muse was a heterosexual male and the one he was threading with was considered bisexual, they began to try and force a ship between them. Not only was the muse itself being extremely pushy but the mun was as well ooc. This also doesn’t mean that I won’t do it at all, if I know the mun isn’t like that or something along those lines then I will be okay with actually doing it.

You can bet your ass I play favorites. This means that there are certain threads I’m likely to respond to first, there are certain asks I will do quicker than others. Usually, this is because me and the other mun have that solid connection ooc and that the muses just really go well together. But don’t let that discourage you, please. That doesn’t mean I won’t rp with you, that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore you and that certainly doesn’t mean that with time you can’t become one as well.

I use icons, but that doesn’t mean that you have to. Yes, I also edit my text but that doesn’t mean you have to either in order to rp with me.

My biggest peeve is not cutting your posts. I really hate having to scroll so much just to get past one post. If you don’t cut your posts, I won’t follow or if I already do then I will unfollow once it becomes an issue.

When I unfollow, I do it through soft block because, as I’ve said, you are not just a number in my follower count and I think it’s only fair. So, if I unfollow you and didn’t use this method, that means I personally didn’t unfollow you. It must have been a glitch on tumblr or something and you’re welcome to say something to me.

I generally rp at any length but the longer the reply is the longer it takes for me to do it so I usually try to keep it at 2-3 paragraphs.

I do currently have 39 muses and more are going to come. That’s just how I am. The world in which my muses are in has a lot of possibilities and connections that I like to explore and develop more and as I do, muses come out and sometimes it will be just one and others it can be multiple. Really depends but if you don’t like blogs with too many muses that I wouldn’t follow me.

This... post-formatting tools update. Call me Bicchus; I have gripes.

Okay, I don't like this new "Keep Reading" thing, and here's why:

Once I activate the new squiggly line that replaced those good old meatballs, I have to whack-a-mole the below-the-cut bit to get my cursor back.

AND fsr sometimes I can't paste things now. But Ctrl+P is a staple of my post-writing diet! I've had to start new paragraphs/sections to do my pasting, then go back to the text above to cut end parts of the text to paste it behind my new-section paste, and then hope Backspace or Delete will help me park that new paragraph up against the previous paragraph. If this doesn't make sense to you, we're on the same page.

AND sometimes the text-formatting thing doesn't show up.

AND my cursor keeps disappearing when I go back in already-typed text to edit it.

AND the formatting tools seem to be glued together with glitch sauce. It's hard to undo things. I am nothing without my friend Ctrl+Z.

AND it's hard to select & type over things: the new text will sometimes appear IN the selected bit instead of replacing it.

AND clicking on a piece of smalltext, the selection will be highlighted in grey, but uselessly and ...kind of annoyingly. Maybe if the grey were lighter it wouldn't be as annoying.

AND it's hard to properly select text at all when you reach the right side of your post. It's a barrier? I'd never make light of anyone's fears, irrational or not, but since we're talking about something that's coded, this irrational fear of imagined barriers could probably be fixed without years of therapy. How I Run My Blog

Speed: hm. i tend to be moderately slow. i try to knock out a reply within a day, but my energy tends to be low due to irl stuff, and i’m on at fairly bizarre hours. 

Replies: tend to end up with a couple of paragraphs...even if i don’t intend to =w=; i don’t go for much fancy formatting (though i’ll do a tiny bit to match) or particularly complex wording/descriptors -- it doesn’t feel fitting for frisk, and they’re the active one most of the time. i do try to describe what they’re physically doing too, b/c they’re not always talky enough for others to react to.

Starters: i toss calls out once in a while, but i prefer things built from ask meme stuff or a touch of ooc plotting tbh.

Inbox: fairly empty so far, but hey, i’ve only had these kids around for like, 2 weeks, and haven’t been super active for either. anyone can jump in whenever they like!

Selectivity: kinda picky. i like to know the fandom/have a clear ‘about’ to look at, and if the number of completely ooc posts (as in completely unrelated to the character) is high i tend to not follow. absolutely also is if they’re any kind of misgendered frisk/chara--or even someone who interacts with misgendered frisks/charas often--i stay about 5000 miles away. nope. it’s v insulting how ppl try to insist using s/he pronouns for ‘em isn’t transphobic. buddy. pal. amigo. it is.

Wishlist: them being able to use their code-altering/absurd max stats in a FIGHT; interacting with other undertale characters who either left their game or suspect their world is a game/something similar; them becoming friends with someone w/ a terrible game and destroying it to keep said friend ‘safe’; the kiddos hideously fucking up getting into a game and glitching everything out; the kiddos glitching themselves out.

Maybe someone will help to make Tumblr work the way it’s supposed to work.

I have absolutely no indication that anyone other than a few terror cells can see what I write here on Tumblr.

Here are some of the oddities that I am encountering:

The screen below shows the way Tumblr should look when I access Tumblr.

That is how Tumblr used to appear, it no longer appears like that, with those controls on top, instead, what happens, is that screen below shows up for about a split second, I was able to very quickly take a screenshot before it vanished a few moments ago (and there is someone preventing the letter M from working as I type right now, I can see that the letter M being suppressed is done manually, someone is there, live, watching what I write, and manually doing something that shuts off the letter M on my keyboard. if I am persistent, I can eventually use the letter M, however it is very taxing to have to compete with someone live to use my keyboard to report terrorism).

So that screen below is the way Tumblr is supposed to look when I access, that screen lasts only a split second before the screen changes to the one shown below that one:

What I do to see what is happening, is I type “tumblr.com” into the Firefox URL address bar, that is when the screen above shows up for a split second. Then, automatically, this screen below shows up. I don’t like the way it says “now, where were we?”, that is like I am interrupting someone, is bullshit, does not belong there.

So, that is one thing that makes me believe there is some kind of mask, or other thing that is covering up my account from view, clearly no one can see what I am writing other than terror operatives of Centurylink ISP, and others such as Google Inc, and the Tumblr website administrators. The asshole who lives accross the street was able to print out some select paragraphs from my account, but no one is paying any attention to the terrorism, the mass murders, the take over of USA, the torturing of captive people at the house next to mine, and worse, all of which I explain in detail over the past six years or so, for the purpose of getting some assistance to come help stop all of that.

no help ever comes.

no one ever sends me any mail here, no one asks any questions about what I am reporting or why I report it, the reports are being suppressed, but select people are able to cherry pick parts that suit the terror army, and use that against me.

This is example of a different thing that has been going on for about a month or two:

I get email from Tumblr like the one below. It says someone is following my account here.

So, I click the link in the email, and there is nothing there, a variety of different pages show up to say “There is nothing here” as that one below shows. That below is the result of clicking on the email link to see who is said to be following,

There has been about six or eight of those over the past two months or so, email from Tumblr that says someone is following, but the link leads to a dead end.

The accounts said to be following all have something in common, the way the names are long and juvenile like the one shown below.

This is where the link of news of a new follower takes me, then that changes to a artful background, then that changes to another page that offers me to search Tumblr for other interesting things.

no one can see what I am writing.

The letter M is hijacked live by some asshole who’s job is to watch my online activity 24/7, and to cause problems, make it difficult, time consuming, and to encourage that I will forget what I wanted to write about while trying to navigate past all of the glitches the asshole throws at me as I try to get help.

Strange thing happened last night:

The local railroad train that uses the tracks on Russell Road nearby came through the neighborhood at about 12:30 am as per usual. What was unusual about that is the train was accompanied by a terror airforce small fixed wing airplane. Small airplanes almost never do flyovers at that hour, there are very few local airplanes that fly after dark at all, and to hear one at past midnight as the train was going by is super unusual.

Thirty minutes later, both of my legs began to itch like crazy, the desire to scratch at my wounds was overwhelming, and the Honeywell Thermostat was turning the heater on and off more than it should have been doing. (like I have said before, the Honeywell Thermostat is fitted with secret, un-advertised remote control features, please study this account to learn why and how the remote operation of a thermostat is part of the mass murder terrorism.

Is there someone who can make the Tumblr visible so I can get some help?

The people who run Tumblr have already made it clear that they are not going to contact US national security personnel or US Military on my behalf to ask them to study this account, so, Tumblr is not going to make the website work correctly, it is in the best interest of Tumblr to bury this account, delete it, make it invisible, so it seems is apparent, either Tumblr is a part of the advance of the terrorism and global mass murders, or, they are naive, and do not see the ultimate goals of the terror bastards who are taking over the world by virtue of killing and replacing the global populations.

notable conditions today is my left eye is very blurry. That has been a complaint I have had for about the time that I have been poisoned with the leg rash, however the vision always clears up by late afternoon. Today, it’s late afternoon, and the blurry vision is not cleared up. I suspect that airplane last night in league with the Russell Road train, released a cocktail mixture of gasses, ones that made severe itching symptoms, and result in blurry vision. It may also be notable that the dreams I had last night and early this morning were more vivid than I can recall of my dreams lately. Very vivid, long, detailed, and story-like dreams last night.

Also: When I experience computer glitches such as those mentioned above about the letter M, the way Tumblr is not working the way it supposed to, and other problems, I notice that the pop-up window presented by Sony Vaiocare Software that came with my computer shows up first at the bottom right of my computer screen, it comes out of the application tray there, one that says: “Make Recovery Media ...”

That, and the Firefox popup window that comes out of the top right of the screen sometimes repeatedly shows up, that one says: “Download the new version of Firefox”, what is annoying about the Firefox pop-up window that advises I should get the new Firefox, is that when I do download the latest version of Firefox, sometimes just to stop the stupid pop-up window from happening so often, even then, within about 24 hours, Firefox always makes yet another new, latest version, and the fucking pop-up windows continue to show up despite having downloaded to the newest version.

That, and the norton Symantec product is not a internet security product at all, that thing only keeps the computer in a state of usefulness such the other terror cells have access into my computer, and if you are using and paying for the Symantec norton security software, then your computer is subject to the same kinds of manipulation as mine is, fitted with an array of open door access to those who do internet spy work, and manipulations of all kinds. I already know that my computer is showing to US national security personnel that I am viewing, downloading, uploading, creating, child pornography done by the terrabyte load. That is being done, made to appear as if it’s my computer on my internet connection, when the reality is that the Juseph Myers computers, phone and internet lines and wireless connections are the ones who are really doing the child pornography just two houses down the street from where I live, at 560 Jackpine Drive, and those people at the Myers terror cell are indeed some of the most frightening people on earth, they do some of the most cruel terror torturing ever done anywhere, and they are two doors away, getting away with making not just pornography of children, but they kidnap the children, and force the children to have sex with donkeys and horses ... the movies they have been making are not just child porn, they are snuff movies of kidnapped children because the farm animals kill the children as a result of making the porn movies.

The whole of Josephine County is aware of it, all of the imposter police know what has been going on there ... since 1998 I have known of this and tried to get some help when they bring the kidnapped children to the shed in the backyard at the Myers terror cell. I could see that from my dining room window for many years.

The US national security sees some kind of digital magic that makes it appear as if it’s my computer that is doing the uploads of the movies, when I am the person who has been trying to stop it since before the entire state of Oregon was hijacked, when there still were US citizens alive in the state twenty years ago and more.

Symantec norton products are part of the digital magic that is leading the US national security people astray, and it’s the Josephine county courts that are sending them to the wrong places when they seek the search warrants. The judge sends them into traps at the wrong place.

That, and the Centurylink phone lines do not go to the addresses they are mapped to go at Centurylink HQ. They have it worked out such that internet traffic on Jackpine, shows that the traffic is happening on Seclusion Loop Ave off of Lower River Road, about fifteen miles from here, and it’s all done intentionally by Centurlylink ISP, which is just a specialized extension of the Canadian/SAG terror army.

What’s more, is that complicated system of “Spaghetti Phone Lines” works so good for advancing terror, they use it as a model, where other cities duplicate what Centurylink built, a system of phone terminal access boxes where the wires inside of the boxes are attached to the wrong terminals on purpose. Entire neighborhoods of internet service are routed ten miles away or more, from where the Centurlylink map says they are attached to.

With addition of a old style PBX switchboard installed at key locations, the model system becomes dynamic, and can change on a moments notice, from one address to another, on the fly, as national security persons are watching the internet traffic. Then, with use of a Stingray Surveillance Unit, that PBX switchboard can change the land line internet traffic into digital cellular phone traffic, then to VOIP traffic, and then back to land line traffic, completely lost to anyone trying to trace the origin of the traffic.

I have explained the complete system many times on this account, it’s extremely complicated to explain, and includes use of phone lines that are said to be dormant at residences that are not occupied. First thing, the story is old. The boat stuck in the canal happened more than 12 years ago, it’s part of the Twitter Time Warp terror towards global domination.

Beyond that are reasons why the old story is presented again as current news.

I’ve looked at the story a number of times, I could go on and on and on about small details made by both Verified Accounts and non-verified accounts that have participated in the bullshit story.

One thing that anyone could glean, is that the story has a sexual underlying theme, you can do your own decode work on that, and don’t leave the music industry promotional emailer communications out of your decode work, otherwise you will miss out on the Emily Wolfe music video ... eventually that happy trail leads to a YouTube video said to have been a performance at SWSX ... I doubt that the title about SWSX being the venue is true, what is important is the background components in the SWSX Emily Wolfe performance, especially the existence of an organ in the background, one that is not used in the song.

... and on, and on, and on, and on...

no one cares about the terrorism, so, no one is going to be concerned about how or where the communication to advance it comes from, or by whom.

What I will point out is something that might draw interest in the terrorism:

That big ass boat is said to be 400 meters in length, and that translates to almost 1,320 feet, nearly a quarter mile long ... add a diving board plank on the bow, and it’s a quarter of a mile long.

Partially because the interface was more efficient, but I think a lot of it was also psychological: What do we associate more with writing than pens? Just using it, even for ordinary articles, seemed to put me in creative mode.

Yes, holding a pen for several hours on end takes some getting used to. Your hand might be sore for the first few days. And you’ll want to practice tucking it into your thumb crease while you type to make the switch between navigating and writing faster. But once you’re fluid with it, it’s more efficient, ergonomic, and fun than a mouse. It’s very satisfying to scroll by hovering and flicking your pen, highlight text the way you would in a book, physically drag paragraphs down the page to reorder them, and cut and paste with one tap of a button.

If you’re an artist as well, it also helps you keep in practice holding and making fine movements with a tablet pen even when you’re not drawing.

I don’t have the Pen & Touch anymore; I gave it to a friend whose tablet was stolen. But I currently have a new Intuos Small, so in this article, I’ll unbox it and recreate my old setup.

In the interest of monetary honesty, this one was given to me by a manager a year ago and has been sitting in the closet neglected since then, so using one I got for free is less daunting than the idea of buying one for the purpose. But this model, a Small, retails for $95, half the price of a Medium, so if you’re interested in trying a tablet, it’s not a huge investment for both a mouse alternative and a capable drawing tool. Figuring out what size tablet you need can be tough, but the small is perfect for this purpose. It’s the size of a mouse pad but more precise than a mouse, so you have more room to move in the same area. Even with a dual-1080p-monitor setup like mine, it feels fine.

Anyway, inside the box are the tablet, the pen, a Micro USB cord, and a very thin manual.* Don’t worry, you won’t need it until you change the nib: Once you install the universal driver from our website, It’s plug-and-play, and automatically detects whatever Wacom tablet you use.

Note

If you look up any guide to setting up a tablet for drawing, they’ll tell you to put it in front of your keyboard so it’s also directly in front of the monitor, not to the side like a mouse pad. But for writing, feel free to do the opposite.

Setting preferences

I’ll walk you through the configuration process as if you’ve never used a tablet before, because maybe some people reading this won’t have. If you’re experienced with them, some of this will seem redundantly basic. But some of the other tips and shortcuts, you might not know as well. So bear with me.

Once you’ve installed the driver, open Wacom Tablet Properties. For anyone who hasn’t used it, there’s a lot more than meets the eye here.

When you install it, it automatically creates profiles for your installed image editing programs — or the big ones, at least — and everything else is covered under All Other. Any programs you add will copy this profile by default, so let’s punch in some foundational settings, starting with Mapping:

We’ll leave it on Pen Mode despite using it as a mouse. You want to get used to mentally mapping your tablet to the elements on your screen, and Pen Mode is far more precise anyway. Not to mention you’ll never lose your cursor again.

If you’re using one monitor, turn on Force Proportions to match your tablet’s aspect ratio to your screen’s. You’ll need this for drawing, anyway. If you’re using two monitors, leave it off or it’ll reduce your tablet’s active area to a tiny sliver. You’ll need it for one type of program, but we’ll get to that later.

Set the lower button to middle-click instead of its default scroll. When it’s on scroll mode, you have to drag the pen across the tablet to scroll up and down. If you set it to middle-click, you can simply click once and navigate by hovering. Middle click also lets you quickly open and close Chrome tabs, and everything else clicking the scroll wheel does in other programs.

Writing program settings

Now, Tablet: For this step, we’ll be adding a writing program and a browser. Clicking the + brings up a list of a list of all the programs you currently have open, so you can create a separate mapping profile and shortcuts for each one.

I do my fiction writing in Scrivener and my article writing in a Google Docs desktop app, with different settings for each, but for simplicity’s sake, I’ll demonstrate with MS Word.

Those four buttons, FYI, are called ExpressKeys, and any number of program or navigation functions can be assigned to them. For writing, we’ll do keyboard shortcuts. For the top left one, go to Keyboard > Keystroke, and in the popup window, hit Ctrl-X in the top field and name it Cut in the bottom one.

Keep adding basic shortcuts until you have this, or whatever alternative suits you:

Note that one key’s still on default: Since cut, copy, and paste cover my basic editing needs, I’m left with a free space. I’ll use it to create a shortcut menu for my common formatting functions. So, let’s pop over to On-Screen Controls.

As you’ll see, this lets you create infinite toolbars. They’re program-independent, so you can create one general “writing” one to use the same shortcuts across different programs.

There are two types of menu: Grids and Radials, and grids come in horizontal, vertical, or square. I’ll make a new single-column vertical grid for all my common shortcuts in order of use — Ctrl-I, Ctrl-E, Ctrl-K, Ctrl-B — and creatively call it “Writing.”

And I’ll assign it to the final ExpressKey. Menus normally disappear after you select an option, but you can use the pin icon to make it a permanent toolbar. From now on, I’ll stick mine to the margin of whatever I’m working on.

Important

If you’re using Windows 10, uncheck “Use Windows Ink” in the Mapping panel for all your writing programs, or else you’ll get that infuriating Handwriting popup every time you place your cursor.

If that still doesn’t work, you can turn the box alone off through Windows by searching for “Pen & Windows Ink” settings in the taskbar, and changing this one from “When the keyboard isn’t attached” to “Only in tablet mode.”

Browser settings

We’re going to do one thing different here. There’s one capability that’s still missing: zoom. The normal Intuos doesn’t have any equivalent to a mouse’s scroll wheel. Some other Wacom products have a touch ring that can be programmed to serve that function — The Intuos Pro, Cintiq 13HD, ExpressKey remote, and various older models — but not this one.

But don’t worry, the Intuos has a workaround. An inelegant one, I’ll admit, but it’s better than switching back to the mouse every time you need a closer look at something.

Besides image editing programs, Chrome is probably where I need to zoom in the most for things like Google Maps. Since I don’t often cut when browsing the web, and I can just use Ctrl-X when I do, I’ll set the first key to Navigation > Pan/Zoom.

While the button is held down, hovering the pen will scroll, and dragging it up or down on the tablet will zoom. You could simplify things and just program this function to the lower pen button, but then you’d lose middle click functionality for things like opening browser links in a new tab. It’s a good idea for any program where middle click doesn’t do anything, though.

Also important

You’ll need to turn off Windows Ink for Chrome and any other Google apps, too. It causes a pen tracking glitch. Same with Discord, for some reason. In fact, you really only need to leave it on for Photoshop.

Image editing settings

Of course, I’ll still use the Cintiq for any serious work, but for simple cropping and color correction, it’s sometimes more convenient to just bang it out on the flat tablet. Any artists present will already know to do this, but for Photoshop and any other drawing or image editing programs, set the active area to one monitor and turn on Force Proportions.

If you’re using two monitors, don’t worry, all you have to do is click your Windows taskbar to navigate back to the non-photoshop monitor.

Services & Saving

If you’re on Windows, occasionally your computer will fail to detect your tablet, in which case you’ll have to reset the Wacom driver through the Services window. This is something everyone should know how to do. Every problem I’ve ever had with a Wacom device has been fixable this

You can also use the stop and start icons at the top of the window. You can pin services to your taskbar once it’s open, too.

But once in a blue moon — every few months, perhaps — this might wipe your preferences. So once you’ve set them, make sure to save them through the Backup Settings panel in Wacom Desktop Center. You can either save them as a .pref file to your hard drive, or upload them to the free Wacom Cloud, then restore them with the very next button.

Impressions of the

Intuos

Zoom hitch aside, this is an even better mouse replacement than the 2013 Pen & Touch was. The P&T had a smooth plastic surface that constantly reminded you that you were using a computer peripheral. The current gens have a rubbery textured surface that genuinely make it feel like you’re somehow using a ballpoint on a notebook to control your computer. And the pen helps with that too: It’s lighter and thinner than either the P&T or the Cintiq, just 5½ inches long by 1/3 inch thick, smaller than a Bic.

But my favorite feature is the Bluetooth. Once the tablet’s charged via cable, you can connect it wirelessly and regain the use of your USB port. I didn’t see the point of this before I tried it — who uses a tablet further than a cord’s distance from the screen? — but now that I have, I never want to go back. It allows a lot more freedom of movement: I can slide it across the desk from one monitor to the other if I want to switch to another project on a different screen, without messing with the cable, or when I need the mouse for a game, I can simply turn the tablet off and set it aside. And once we can do these things again, it’ll be easy to slip into a backpack to use outside at a coffee shop, bookstore, or while traveling. It can be charged with any Micro-USB cable, so if you run it off Bluetooth, you can use a wall charger. It takes a few hours from empty to full, but it has a battery life of fifteen, meaning it’s good for two workdays or one brutal one.

Finally, in an interesting last-minute twist, I was surprised to find it compatible with the Cintiq — I could even draw into Clip Studio Paint with both at once — meaning I won’t need to switch them out. I don’t think an overabundance of Wacom tablets is a problem the average reader is likely to run into, but for example, if you ever find yourself graduating from a flat tablet to a drawing monitor, but aren’t quite ready to sell your old one, you can repurpose it as a mouse.

As for me, I’m going back to dailying the Intuos for my writing.

Week 1

Okay, well here I am. Cursor blinking. About to do the thing, and scared I’ll do the other thing that I usually do. The first thing is write a blog entry, and the second thing is abandon the effort, select all, delete, and close the window. Trying to keep the pressure off by typing what’s in my brain as it arrives. 

Google Chrome doesn’t recognize the word “I’ll” in the above paragraph and has inserted a little red squiggle beneath it to indicate it is misspelled. Fuck you, Google Chrome. You are stupid. Although, perhaps the erroneous editor is the Tumblr platform rather than Chrome. One moment. 

I tested it in both Facebook and Gmail and it does not appear to have offended the Chrome overlords. Nor did Tumblr find it unacceptable when I enclosed it in quotation marks. Perhaps it is simply a glitch in the beta version of 2021, which was only released in my area eleven hours and forty-eight minutes ago.

Englishmen of the 19th and 20th centuries often referred to their journals or notebooks as “diaries.” Not in the “Dear Diary” sense, in which the notebook becomes anthropomorphized as a confidant. But “diary” as in the regular, daily record of events. The diary might read, “Snow. Received a letter from Amy. Aunt Eleanor came to lunch; told us of an illness among her grandsons.” That counted as a diary entry though it lacks any personal insight or private details. This is not to say that inner thoughts and analyses were not spilled onto pages; I’ve read journals from some of the “great thinkers” and they are fascinating. But keeping a journal or diary, at its core, is simply recording details of the day.

Several times in that last paragraph I wanted to do the Other Thing That I Usually Do. Ooh, this isn’t making much sense. Do I have the facts right? Will this be understood? God I don’t want to be seen as stupid! Delete! Delete! But I finished it, so okay, let’s keep going.

Even in private journals I usually feel the urge to explain all the background and context of a situation, even though I am the only one who will read it and I already know all the background! I get so overwhelmed trying to bring the notebook page “up to speed” that I have lost my energy and desire to keep writing by the time I actually get to my feelings about the issue at hand. I’ve made some efforts over the last year to begin journal entries in media res. I’ll keep trying. 

My goal is to write an entry on this blog once a week this year. Doesn’t have to be profound, doesn’t have to tell a story, doesn’t have to be shared, doesn’t have to be read by anyone at all. I just want the consistency of effort, the intentional setting down of thoughts into words, phrases, and paragraphs.
