Some Larissa Weems x Reader. Just a series of little things that I think about for Larissa. Most are just little things, not big enough for stories.

As a little girl, she always said she wanted to be a doctor. This changed quickly when she began at Nevermore and began taking outcast centered classes. That's when she knew she wanted to teach those subjects.

She has always had a desire to be a leader. It was her mentor at Nevermore who pushed her to get her principals license and apply for the position of headmistress when it opened up.

The scar above her lip is from her first year teaching. She was taking a student to the lycanthropy cages and they turned before she got them inside.

She had a critical mother and father. This led her to be hyper independent and over critical of herself. She attributes most of her success in life to this, but she is aware of how negatively it impacts herself.

She struggles to open up emotionally with most people.

She loves to go out with the other teaching staff for a drink or two at the end of the week.

Most of her life revolves around work, so most of her relationships are acquaintanceships or distant friendships.

While she spends a lot of time working, most of it is her going above and beyond. She plans and works more than she needs to in the first place.

She doesn't find herself unattractive, but she certainly doesn't think she is as attractive as you might tell her she is.

She sometimes snores but she will vehemently deny that she does

She takes forever to get ready in the morning, but she doesn't see it as a burden. She loves every second of it.

She wouldn't notice if someone had a crush on her, nor would she recognize most types of flirting. Typically, she just sees people as being friendly.

She gets flustered easily when you first start dating.

She tries not to tell people about her abilities. She worries people won't trust her or will ask her to shapeshift if they find out.

While she does have many bitter emotions towards Morticia, she misses her quite often. They were a wonderful duo that complimented each other well.

Larissa is not a fan of PDA, but won't hesitate to tell people you are both together. She loves to talk about you as she is very proud to be with you.

She loves TEA (sometimes coffee), but simply getting her to drink water is a challenge. Often she will say, "There is water in my tea/coffee. I don't need to drink water."

Because you are with her, you both attend many official dinners or conferences together. Due to this, you have developed a bit of a secret language with one another. Certain looks, glances, or pinches on the arm are different methods of silent communication.

She is a wonderful person, but she does enjoy people watching and occasionally poking fun at others. Her snide comments are only for you to hear though.

She understands technology to a certain extent. Loves games like Candy Crush or Solitaire, but will sit and listen to you explain social media to her. She refuses to download the apps no matter how many times you ask.

She is a frequent patron of the arts. Loves having art around her home, enjoys theater, and never is without a new novel in her purse.

She loves ABBA, Madonna, and Fleetwood Mac. Her favorite ABBA album is Voulez-Vouz

She has a tradition to watch every mamma mia movie at least once a year. Regardless if you like it, you will have to watch it with her. There will be singing along, the occasional quoting of the movie, but never interruptions that involve criticism of this 'timeless masterpiece' - Larissa's words

What are you thoughts on fanfiction vs real literature?

My dear Anon, you are going to make me yap for forever with this question. I find that such an interesting question as someone who is both an English major and a fanfiction writer.

What is literature?

Literature is often defined as “written works”, often with the addition of “especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit” or something to that effect, though the keyword here is “considered”. The idea that there is ‘good’ literature and ‘bad’ literature is utter bullshit.

We are force-fed the idea that there is such a thing from we start in the school system, and it is true that some old hat somewhere has decided that Shakespeare is the epitome of what is considered ‘good literature’ (I love Shakespeare by the way, but this is just a classic example).

It’s the same with any kind of art:

If I draw a stick figure and go hand it in to a museum, they might be like “what the fuck?”. However, maybe more people look at my stick figure. Maybe they have deemed that I am actually pretty good at drawing stick figures, and that it seems like I’ve had some kind of intent behind them. They might decide that my stick figure is actually a great metaphor for whatever current world problem there is, or that it resonates with them in some way. Boom. It’s modern art. It’s ‘good’ art because a lot of people have pointed at it and said “oh that’s awesome. I like it and I get it”.

A lot of people have pointed at Shakespeare’s works and said “I like that. He seems good at that. That’s the best”.  So, we can conclude that what is considered ‘good’ literature has more to do with the reader-response than it actually does with the writer. That’s not to say that’s the writer is not important though, because the skill of the writer obviously plays a role as well.

Humans are social animals above all, so we are also easily influenced by what others deem good and bad. You personally might have read a lot of literature that your former teachers have said was the greatest pieces of literature of our time, and personally thought that it was a bit shit. Though you might still bring up the author’s name if someone asked you to name some of the greatest authors of all time.

What is fanfiction?

There’s a couple of different definitions:

“stories written about TV, film, or book characters by their fans” (Cambridge Dictionary)

or even simpler:

“a story written by a fan” (Merriam-Webster)

Some also claim that it has to be published by an amateur author, or that it has to be published on the internet, but we’ll keep it simple here and just use the two definitions above.

So many people have pointed at fanfiction and went “lol cringe” so it is considered ‘bad’ literature. If it is even considered literature at all. Though we know they are written works, so they are, by definition, ‘literature’.

It is quite unfair to think this way about fanfiction. YA and children’s lit has gotten the same treatment in the past, and it’s only pretty recently that academics have started treating those with the respect and regard they deserve.

YA and children’s literature are obviously written for a particular audience: young adults and children. For that reason, it means that they can’t have the same timeless and universal messages as those classics that your old English teacher loved to harp on about (which is complete BS) and for that reason they are seen as unimportant and uninteresting.

Let’s be honest here as well: when a lot of people think about the concept of fanfiction, they think about media such as Twilight, Harry Potter, One Direction, and so on. What do these have in common? They are usually targeted towards a younger audience, and it is the same weird discrimination against YA and children’s lit that causes the hate for fanfiction, I am completely sure of it.

However, we know that fanfiction does not have to be based on YA or children’s lit. There’s a whole variety of adult media that has fanfiction too. Though there still is that weird narrowminded idea of what it actually is, because we have all heard about the ‘My Immortal’ Harry Potter fic and the ones where all the One Direction boys have one big sexy orgy with each other (or whatever, I was never a Directioner).

Literally all the art ever made has been based off something else. We make what we consume. Ever read or seen media that is heavily influenced by the Bible? Fanfiction. It’s media that uses the same characters and plots from another popular work. Even Shakespeare yoinked most of his stories from ones that already existed. Even the classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was taken from a story called ‘The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet’ by Arthur Brooke. Our boy barely even bothered to change their names. That’s Fanfiction™ babey.

“But, but, but, those stories were real stories. They weren’t just smut.” Come here, my fictive question-asker. Take my hand and listen: the presence of sexual themes and smut should not make you devalue any piece of media, you weird little puritan.

If that was the case, is Shakespeare’s works of less value because the guy loved his dirty jokes? Is Bram Stoker’s Dracula then shit? Because my god…any piece of vampire and werewolf media, is inherently horny as fuck. That stuff was the AO3 smut tag for Victorian housewives. Lots of classics are horny as hell, we just sort of ignore it because “oh well, they’re classics”.

In conclusion of this long-ass rant

Fanfiction is real literature in my opinion. It gets discredited because it is often written for a very specific audience, just like some other unfortunate genres, and it really isn’t fair. It also gets discredited because most people have a very narrow idea of what it actually is.

I’ll even go as far and to say that fanfiction in some ways is a more beautiful concept than what is widely considered as “real literature”. Fanfiction is often not written for a monetary gain. It is not made to be publishable. There are probably thousands of beautiful, genre-breaking, amazing books that will never see the light of day because some publishers have looked at it and thought “this won’t sell”.  

That’s not the case with fanfiction. It’s a genre that is written because people really felt like they wanted to share something, and I honestly think that is an incredibly beautiful concept in this hopeless world where literally everything is about money. I'm losing more brain cells trying to comprehend this fucking shit than I ever will from lead. People like these are personally responsible for half of Earth's extinctions. Hey um I know there's a large chance that you most likely won't see this, but I just have to say this. When you had first spoken up about leaving the fandom I was confused as to why because I didn't really realize how dry it was becoming. I just wanna say how utterly correct you were. It has declined even moreee since your leave (not saying you caused it or anything). I sometimes find myself comparing the notes/reblogs from Tom!peter fanfics to the tasm!peter ones and the difference is astounding ( it has me wondering if anyone even knows that Tom!peter exists). It's really sad, the fandom honestly can't be revived, like where is everyone??? I have so many questions about the decline of content in the fandom ( I know the interactions from the readers played a huge part, but I also feel like there may have been other factor that lead to this.) Did everyone in the fandom just grow up or something?? Anyways, I miss you lots and hope you are doing well and your new fandoms are treating you right.

wow this was a doozy to read but in a good way 😭 the delusional main character side of me wants to think my absence had an impact of any kind lmaooo but to be honest, the fandom was already in really bad shape.

lack of reader interaction personally wasn’t that big of a factor for me, i was incredibly lucky and am still grateful for the consistent feedback and love y’all gave me and i still sometimes look through reblogs on my fave fics for writing inspo :”) it meant so much to me and i look back with so much fondness on all the fun times we had with more interactive series, especially break my heart.

not to sound like i’m giving a ted talk, but what drove me away more than anything was the toxicity of the fandom. granted all fandoms have a certain level of it, but this one was really, truly bad in 2021-2022. there’s only so much consistent harassment and suicide bait a girl can overlook while still feeling welcome and excited abt this space 😭 when i look back at that stuff now i’m honestly shocked so many people stayed as long as we did.

rabid shipping culture aside, i personally feel like the mcu spiderman franchise took a big hit in no way home that drove a lot of ppl away. obviously they couldn’t keep going forever with a 30 year old guy playing a 19 year old, but their creative decisions in nwh are questionable at best to me. the end of mcu peter’s story was so final and abrupt that, combined with how flip-floppy the writers were abt a follow-up trilogy with new characters and a time jump, didn’t leave much room for fanfic to carry on. they quite literally erased mcu peter as a character and individual from the mcu itself lmao it would be pretty hard for people to write copious fanfics about a guy who has no one bc no one knows who he is and his family is dead as hell.

that being said, i really am sorry you feel like it’s difficult to enjoy and share your passion in this space. that feeling sucks and i hope that, if you write fanfic, the lack of engagement and content doesn’t stop you from being creative and sharing what you wanna share. trends and fandoms come and go in waves, you never know when a piece of media or an actor has a revival in the general public. i don’t know what roles tom has going on but if you feel inspired to engage in them when the time comes, i’m sure there will be ppl there to interact. you’re never too ‘grown up’ to enjoy fandom, especially not one as iconic and timeless as spider-man in all variations. if there’s a character, there’s ppl out there creating art for them.

If you are already familiar with my blog, you know I get 2000's nostalgia at the slightest provocation. It's the first thing in the title, dammit! But if you thought my nostalgia was intense regardless of the piece of media I'm (re)consuming at the time, I want to tell you that Luigi's Mansion is the peak of it.

Not only do I find the game almost exactly as amusing and fun as it was back then, the extreme satisfaction of completing it, together with the memories of the happiest years of my life flowing back into my brain, make it impossible for me to not cry while playing/remembering the game and said moments of my childhood. Hell, not even Guitar Hero III, the game responsible for my career and æsthetic choices has achieved this feat and it was very close.

Now that I think of it, this post is kinda pointless in reality. I guess I just needed to regulate the intense amount of feelings I was having by writing about it, but what I do know is that the pureness of Luigi crying of relief over having his brother Mario back and the overwhelming joy of the moment will be carved into my brain forever.

I'd love to know if anybody else has memories as sublime as the ones I have of their times playing this timeless classic 🖤

When we are born, there are things that humanity had either never seen or that had happened so long ago that we don’t remember. That’s why each new generation often thinks that the wisdom of the generations before is old-fashioned.

For instance, when I was born, television had only been invented a few years earlier. When my father, uncle, and aunt were born, automobiles were just a few decades old. When their grandparents were slaves, we all know how the way of their world was. Now, today, my children and grandchildren laugh when it takes forever for me to use technology they cut their teeth on. Freedom at Risk

Well everyone, it looks like I'm going to be closing up my discussions with you all for a little bit. I got a call from a police officer about allegations against me that have me concerned. I've already called my lawyer but before I go down to the police in settling this matter I wanted to leave you all with one final post. I'm releasing a doctrine and set of instructions for the public before this all happens. This doctrine or manifesto will contain my perspective exactly to everyone. There will be no violence, only the release of a consciousness bomb, one of my final lessons I wanted to teach everyone before I have to deal with this. What is the legal Western version of a Manifesto against what one may see as the ultimate evil? Was an example I wish to leave with everyone for the time being. It certainly cant be seen something in the Islamic or Middle Eastern sense, it can't be something based from a foreign ideology like nazis if you have no association with Germany; this can only go so far as your personal beliefs. Instead I offer the public an arguement or idea on how to declare legal manifestos and calls to action for Western Society. Who is this for? All identities, all groups, all races, all genders, all religions, who fight against what they see as power against human rights and rights tradtionally found in Canada and the United States of America. My fight was and always is one against a power that wants to enslave or potentially destroy all races, genders, religions, and groups deemed undesirable. This is why I always chose to carry out what I do, only for the sake of LOVE! CUTE! NICE! in the spirit of the entire human race. If I or my faction cannot establish a better humanity or human race who can practice LOVE! CUTE! NICE! for humanity and civilization, we try again later while allowing others to take up the mantle in this fight for the human species when we're not around. We and I only represent a desire in the will of human beings to become better people. This is how you always know we're timeless, and only the spirit of humanity in the consciousness of its development. Always remember we fight forever, this never ends. I will always be here. A Glimpse into My Life

Where do I even begin?

Well, let's start with the fundamentals.

I go by Arrie, or Ri for short. However, within the tight-knit circle of my family and closest friends, I answer to CC, a tender nickname derived from Clementine. When my parents and friends shower me with affection, I become their Darling, an ode to the timeless tune, "Oh My Darling Clementine."

"Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling, Clementine… You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine…"

Yes, I acknowledge it's a melancholic song. But indeed, I was CC throughout my childhood. It wasn't until I embarked on my college journey that people began to call me Arrie or Ri.

During my college years, I delved into Humanities, majoring in English language and literature with a focus on education. This choice was mainly driven by the scholarship opportunities available at the time. Given the chance, I would have explored history, psychology, or European languages.

Additionally, I had the privilege of participating in the Academic Exchange Program in South Korea.

Upon returning to my home country, I swiftly secured a position as a history teacher just one week after graduation. After over a year in that role, I transitioned to a Korean academy. Subsequently, I embarked on a completely different path as a guest relations officer in a theme park. My dedication and hard work paid off, leading me to eventually head the department. Seeking further professional growth, I transitioned to government service.

Simultaneously, I pursued a master's degree in Development Communication at the country's national university. However, midway through the program, I made a pivotal decision to switch to an MPA program, specializing in Regulatory Management Systems. This transition was driven by the unique opportunity to be part of the inaugural batch of the program, along with a scholarship offer that carried no service obligations. I also received admission to a paralegal program, but I had to decline due to the sheer workload on my plate.

Transitioning from the corporate world to government service, I essentially started from scratch. My responsibilities included crafting speeches, press releases, statements, and presentations, as well as managing media interactions. Essentially, I served as the voice and representative of the agency head. I was occasionally entrusted with the task of crafting materials for prominent figures such as the President, Vice President, Senators, and other high-ranking officials. It was a role that demanded an immense amount of work and came with substantial pressure, leaving me with minimal time for a social life.

After several years, I made a bold decision – I resigned.

Today, I find myself unemployed, and this temporary period of joblessness has allowed me to simply be me – Arrie.

I am Ri, the individual who derives joy from dunking her bread into a glass of orange juice.

I am Ri, an honorary expert in all things K-pop and K-drama.

I am Ri, the avid viewer of "Bridgerton" and "Emily in Paris."

I am Ri, the connoisseur of holiday films and the collector of handcrafted notebooks.

I am Ri, with a budding fascination for tea leaves.

I am Ri, who prefers raw veggies over cooked ones.

I am Ri, lactose intolerant yet enamored with milk.

I am Ri, unimpressed by the taste of matcha and particular about hotdogs and corned beef brands.

I am Ri, unfazed by wearing the same outfit repeatedly.

I am Ri, the owner of a modest collection of bags and shoes, only replacing them when they're worn out or demanded by a special occasion.

And the list goes on…

In essence, I am the real Ri, stripped of accolades and the weight of people's expectations.

The Origin Of Hokuto No Pen! (hi!)

It's honestly surreal to me that I'm going to be turning 27 on January 4th, 2023. My life has gone through so many changes. My father recently passed away on Christmas, and the 15th anniversary of when I started to become serious about being an animator was only some days ago.

I have been watching animation since I was a child, the first being Disney's Pinocchio. While I was mesmerized by the lifelike qualities of the characters and the way they moved, I'll admit I was sort of impervious to the storytelling of most western animation and some anime here and there. Part of it, was that Pinocchio is literally the greatest animated film in the world, and finding anything that wasn't downhill from there was hard. The animation is flawless, the gags timeless, and the characters incredibly appealing. However I was starting to get sick of these animated western movies that all had the same premises (I'll go into this in a later post. Look for Talking Animals, Talking Objects, and Superheroes.)

I certainly went through a manga and Pokemon phase like many children at that age, where I was genuinely interested in the idea of making a comic in the style and format of a manga, but most of my ideas then were sort of childish and cringeworthy like most elementary and middle schoolers. I loved playing Gameboy games, and valued my prized collection of Pokemon. I have so many fond memories of taking my Gameboy to summer camp to play Pokemon Leaf Green, and trading with my friends. I was certainly making art at the time, but was more focused on having fun and had no clear goals. After all, I was still a kid.

I clearly remember a big change culturally in 2006 when the English dub of Naruto premiered on Toonami for the first time. It was like a genuine break I saw from the same themes and characters I was seeing in western animation. I was just in shock that there was this cool TV show where there were these dudes flying around fighting in mid-air, with all these powers, tremendous worldbuilding, and of course loud grunge music that blasted every time it aired on TV.

At that point I had come to a very strong conclusion that I wanted to be a manga artist. So I spent most of my free time writing stories, but not in the way most other people were doing in. I would write the stories in a very simulated fashion, much like a director does takes of a stage play. I would treat it like I was a kid playing house, and I played the roles of all the characters, would voice them out, and truly test the characters I was writing to see how they could grow and become more interesting. Little did I know there was a film out there that would absoulutly blow my mind and make me drop being a manga artist all together in favor of making animation.

It was when I was 12 years old in December of 2008, I remember being invited to a friend's birthday party, where we watched two films: Hideyuki Kurata's original video animation, Read or Die, and Steamboy.

We watched maybe the first part of Steamboy before we got distracted by cake, but it was Read or Die that literally changed the course of my life forever. For the first time, I saw an animated story that moved me like nothing else had in my life, and created a burning fire in my heart that since has literally never left me.

To me, Hideyuki Kurata was a master at animated storytelling, and he made you feel like your were watching magic you could not explain. Not that it couldn't be broken down or explained, but you were so entertained you couldn't be bothered. It seemed like this man could make a story out of anything, and do so flawlessly. In a moment of being exposed to him, I realized that if I wanted to I could create media that had that kind of impact on myself. I wanted more than anything to do what he was doing.

In the following years, I became obsessed with Read Or Die and the media surrounding it, and began to research Hideyuki and his artistic process, which were like a guiding light to me in tough times.

It was around that time that I had started writing a multimedia project called Inspector Obvious. I kept writing scripts, rewriting, and figure drawing and creating art every single day. I would be submitting my portfolio to animation colleges in hopes that I could learn how to become a better animator. I worked hard in art classes, but was extremely bored and wanted more stimulation and more knowledge about animating from real animators.

I studied Japanese and even visited Japan in high school to the greatest of culture shock, and took my after school art classes as seriously as I could for an average high schooler.

Later in life, after various personal struggles I will refer to in another blogpost with content warnings, I finally worked up the courage to apply for an animation school despite the challenges I faced, and was accepted into Don Bluth University in 2020. I studied under Don Bluth for an entire year over zoom, along with a small class of wonder artists and animators at various skill levels. Don, despite being incredibly old, showed full mental sharpness and attention to each and everyone of us. For the first time, I got real advice about what I was doing wrong, and learned how to think like an animator, more so than I ever thought before.

Studying with Don Bluth changed my life. Since 2021 when I graduated from the program I have been working on my demo reel, and my Inspector Obvious multimedia project which I hope to share with the world someday.

This blog is a culmination of my adventures, and my specific knowledge I have gathered from various old animators overtime, and my nerdy rants about anime or whatever else I think people should know. I feel like I worked really hard to gain this knowledge, and want to share it with everyone.

I also taught myself how to cel paint, and will be discussing my methodology in detail on here.

My Dear Blogamily and once again apologies for another long hiatus between posts but as social media is the immediate and consistent medium that has us all in touch we are constantly connected! HAPPY NEW YEAR to us all! Here is to wishes for good health, joy, love, success, kindness, empathy, success and all other good things for us all forever touch wood:)!

Here is our annual HNY photo...same location as the last several years and same resistance from all to stand and pose even when promised it will only be a few seconds haaha! The teller of time is our kids’ heights. Zen taller than me Kai getting there. There are 3 dogs in this picture but one seems to be hidden in there somewhere haaha!

As always I am bursting with so much to share and a desire to hear back from all of you too, but alas, rushing between things and as happens in posts after a while, not sure where to start, so suffice to say I really will write more regularly and in fact as I am trying to write a new show / book / film, not sure what it will be, there will be lots more writing on here henceforth.

Last year saw a return to normalcy for us all after the 21ish months of covid lockdowns and more. Needless to say it had been a very strange time yet as an eternal optimist I did look for the silver linings and we all got through but being back to real normal things is and was fab! Prayers for those who went through very touch time and tragedy.

School for our kids, real, physical school topped the back to life list. Then gradually letting go of masking when safe to do so. The long awaited amazing family trips and holidays. Travel. Me back acting in a big film, The Archies. My standard joke that goes with that revelation - ‘I am not Betty, I am not Veronica, I am the Mother!’ Haahha, took me a while to accept playing the role of Archie’s Mum in the film, but they are young stylish cool Mums and a film directed by fab Zoya Akhtar with the super cast and crew it has, was an immediate yes for me, when I got picked post auditioning. Will reveal more about it nearer release but yes, good to be back on the big screen and I hope you all like my work and it is all a success touch wood:)!

Now onto creating new work. Have a few things up my sleeve and hoping to make them happen successfully touch wood:).

@roopaksaluja and #BANGBANG continue to work hard and as they do more in the production and content creation space with long form global content potential blockbusters in development I hope they succeed too touch wood:).

Football has become an even bigger part of our lives. It helped us loads in lockdown being a release and surprisingly exciting regular source of joy and fitness as our family played lots. Kai plays football for BARCA Elite now and Zen and him for school and us managing to go to Qatar for a #WorldCup match reiterates the joy sport and football brings to us all. 

#YogaWithTara that I began at the start of lockdown and unexpectedly continued bi weekly for over 2 yrs and in fact still do at least once a week helped keep me going too and is and was a super way to stay in touch with my communities. #SaturdayNoonLiveWithTara too.

Again, as this began as a HNY wish, I hadn’t  intended to ramble, but clearly I have, so will zip it now, but will say au revoire with a bit of exciting news that only just came to me... thank you for recs on bowie and VU!! i'm far from an expert on them lmao so i'll listen to these albums! i've only listened to earlier bowie albums from the man who sold the world to diamond dogs i think. life on mars must be one of my faves, i remember having it on repeat for WEEKS last year lmao. i dreamed of getting hunky dory on vinyl but couldn't find it in my local record stores :( the same with many other bowie, UV and lou albums too, no idea why they're such rare animals here. a ziggy copy i have must be one of the best sounding records in my whole collection tho! do you collect physical media?

i love velvet goldmine too!! i love todd haynes' style and it really does kinda feel like an ao3 fanfic lmao. this kind of biopics must be my favorite, when they're unauthorized or loosely based on actual stories. do you have any favorite music biopics?

my favorite artists are the beatles and john lennon! and as for the third one ehh.. even though it's not classic rock i'll say lana del rey, ever since her new single came out i've been listening to it obsessively

i see you love beatles too, so i'm just gonna say my favorite albums by them are the white album and magical mystery tour! as for john, my absolute fav of his is walls & bridges, but i guess imagine would be a good place to start as it's his dreamiest and maybe... softest? while still showing some of his edgier sides of the early 70s. plastic ono band is close to my favs after W&B but it definitely can feel too unsettling, not without lighter parts though. his part of double fantasy is full of highlights too (i like yoko's songs too though!) ugh sorry i could talk about john for hours really lmao

and as for lana- since we're into classic rock i think ultraviolence is right up that alley. it sounds so timeless it could well fit into the 70s. my other favs of hers are honeymoon and blue banisters!

i wish i watched more music documentaries and concerts but it's often too hard bc i know i'll never get to experience it live 😭 i've seen the beatles' shea concert tho and it was good! do you have favorite live shows and docs?

I also try to learn German too cause like I have been obsessed with so many German artists for so long, the obvious one is Nico 😂 and also I love Kraftwerk and Rammstein, but my knowledge in German is limited to the random odd of the language

I’m also a big fan of Bowie early work too, just not so much on his folkish day lol. Still, The man who sold the world gotta be one of the my most fav albums of all time. Hunky is amazing too! Life On Mars is literally one of the song that hooked me on to David. I’m not sure if you knew this but the song Queen Bitch from this album is literally David trying to do a VU-style songwriting. So basically the narrator of that song supposed to be Lou or smth lol So yeah another weird Bowie-Lou Reed fanfic vibe 😂

About Vinyl, all of my fav artists’ records are hard to find here too, except for Bowie lol he is everywhere for some reason so prob a good thing. But no one in Thailand seems to know Velvet Underground or Lou hahaha.

I don’t own much records cause they are tbh quite expensive for me. But I have Diamond Dogs, VU’s debut album, and Lou’s Coney Island Baby on vinyl. All of them are the best things ever! But I do collect a lot of CDs

I truly not very big on biopic but Nowhere Boys is very amazing in my opinion. I love that films very much. I see that you are a big Beatles fans, what do you think about the film? I’m not sure about the accuracy but I think it’s beautiful how they depict Lennon-McCartney friendship.

I haven’t listened to all of the White Albums and Magic Mysteries but so far I love George’s guitar style in the White Album so much that it’s prob gonna be my new favorite Beatles album. Personally, Let It Be is my favorite album by them but I haven’t watch the Get Back doc yet so I might need to do that!

For live concert, I think I watched a bit too much Bowie’s live tbh. But I just cannot resist cause his stage crafts are just one of the best and his shows are my comfort place. I think Ziggy’s live and Diamond’s Dog’s live (you can see those in Cracked Actors’s doc) are probably his best. My fav act is the one he did Hamlet with Cracked Actors. But the one that comfort me the most is the Glass Spider tour live tbh. It’s a pretty meh album overall but the live show are so great and late 80s Bowie is like a father figure to me so I come back to that all the time

Not sure if you’ve watched Hayes’ Velvet Underground documentary yet but it’s very good! It could be focus too much on the early years of the band at time and doesn’t go beyond the post-John era so much but still there are a lot of direct history to learn from the doc as it has John and Moe, as well as, everyone who involved with the band and New York avant-garde scene of the 60s. Still, I personally think it doesn’t talk enough about Sterling Morrison and completely dismiss Doug Yule which is a bit sad. But I understand where Hayes is coming from tho, having John as the strongest present of the band as the leading narrative lol. Also the film is a bit pro-John Cale cause well… Lou is dead 😐 so that is a head-up

Some amazing Spirk fanfic to bless your dash because I’m falling in love with this shit all over again (this is like the 10th time this has happened lol):

Entering Orbit:  Jim escapes to Iowa to avoid the media frenzy following the Narada incident, but a late-night miscommunication results in Spock turning up on his front porch; rated m; 30,957 words

Papers in the Roadside:  Non-Starfleet AU. Jim owns a small bar in Chicago, keeps on picking up strays and taking care of everyone no matter how hard it makes his own life. Spock is a journalist writing feature articles for the Chicago Tribune; he depicts the world with uncanny skill, but hides more than one personal drama and is possibly under surveillance from the Vulcan royal family. They meet by accident just before their lives start to spin out of control; rated e; 49,637 words

Take Refuge in What You Know:  AU - Kirk has moved into a apartment/house and wants to get to know his neighbors. He meets his neighbor Spock, a loner who suffers from extreme agoraphobia. Kirk thinks he's beautiful enigma; rated e; 120,334 words

Listen, this is not only my favorite Star Trek fic of all time, it’s also one of my favorite fanfics in general. It’s right up there with Text Talk and The Shoebox Project from the HP fandom, which if you’ve read, you know are incredible and frankly life-changing. And this fanfic changed my life. The description the author gives doesn’t do the beauty of this fic justice. I suffer from agoraphobia and Spock’s depiction as an agoraphobic man was probably the most well-researched, sympathetic, empathetic, caring, realistic portrayal of what it’s like to be agoraphobic that I’ve ever witnessed in fiction. It made me cry like a child because I had never felt so seen and understood. This writer is incredible, and this fic is incredible. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s an AU, which I’m usually pretty wary about, but it barely even feels like an AU. It just feels like Jim and Spock. The author’s understanding of both of their characters’ is perfect, like just a spot-on portrayal of who they are. This fic genuinely helped me accept who I am and helped me understand that I am capable of & deserving of love. If you don’t read any other Star Trek fics (and you def should read more Star Trek fics because they’re amazing), then let this one be the one you read. I dare you not to read it three times in a row like I did.

Observations:  First Officer Spock comments on life aboard the Enterprise and his service under Captain James T. Kirk; rated m; 500,000+ words.

So the author of this fic actually did a thing where they made this fic into two books (similar to what The Shoebox Project authors did many years ago in the HP fandom). They don’t get any money from people buying the books; the cost is just to go towards producing the books. This fic is the equivalent of two LARGE novels. We’re talking 600 pages & up. It’s a huge fic. Now, that being said, I read it in one day. ONE DAY. It’s that good. This is another one of my all-time favorite fics, though not quite as dear to my heart as the one I listed above. It’s focused on AOS, and tbh, I forget that what happens in this book isn’t actually canon. Like it’s so well-told, it just feels like it’s now part of the timeless story of Kirk & Spock. The “professional” Star Trek writers would never be brave enough to do what this author does with Kirk and Spock, though. This fic will make you angry, will make you laugh, will make you cry. It has such a good grasp on every single character. It also shows the love between the crew of the Enterprise, which is always a treat, and it’s beautifully done in this fic. It has a sorta-enemies-to-lovers arc between Spirk and an enemies-to-close-friends arc between Spock and McCoy that is beautifully done and fleshed out. This fic is definitely a journey to go through, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s extremely slow burn, and you will want to slap both Kirk and Spock (and McCoy) upside the head at certain points lol. 

Of Coffee Beans and Green Tea Leaves:  The progression of a relationship, through Coffee Beans and Green Tea Leaves. Basically, it’s an AU where Kirk works at a coffee shop to pay his way through school, and Spock visits often. rated t; 16,429 words

Love, love, love, this fic. It’s cute, it’s in character. They have kind of a rocky start together, so it’s got a little bit of that Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy i-hated-you-but-now-i-love-you-marry-me vibes to it. I’m a sucker for that, if you haven’t figured that out by now lol. It’s really good, and a really enjoyable read. And it’s not too long, if you’re in the mood for something on the shorter end of things.

 Please Don’t Touch the Vulcans:  The "yes" is out of Jim's mouth before he can think about it. Jim is chipper about having time off for the holidays. He asks everyone if they want to spend time together but sadly, everyone ditches Jim over the holidays because they have plans. McCoy visits his daughter, Nyota visits her family, and everyone splits. Not knowing Spock has feelings for him, Jim doesn't even bother asking if he wants to spend time together figuring he has something to do. Something cute, romantic with the boys spending time with one another and confessions; rated m; 17,690 words

Super cute and has lots of Sarek, which idk about y’all, but I’m always a fan of. Sarek and Jim kind of get to know each other a bit, and it’s cute. Sarek knows about they’re in love before Spock & Kirk know lol. If I remember correctly, there’s also some appearances from everyone’s favorite: Old!Spock! You also get a little bit of jealous and protective Young!Spock. So you’re in for a real treat with this one. 

The Ren shat’var Trilogy:  A split-second decision changes Jim's life forever, as he enters into a bond with Spock in the face of certain torture. Enemies to the Federation emerge from unlikely places, and the command team must contend with unexpected threats, as well as challenges within their own intense relationship. In this three-part series, the Enterprise races across the galaxy to confront the unknown, and Jim and Spock discover the true significance of their unprecedented connection; rated e; 184,411 words

Textual Attraction:  Valentine’s Day does not bring up pleasant memories for Cadet Kirk. But the serendipitous switch-up of his cell phone with a particular Vulcan professor’s will make his day far more interesting –and romantic. Perhaps some new memories can be made! 15,900 words

SO GOOD. Just SO good

Spaceman:  Academy AU. Five times Spock realizes he's attracted to a barista at the academy spaceport, and one time he decides to do something about it. rated t; 3728 words

Short, sweet, funny. You’ll love it.

Subtext: Texting your Vulcan first officer in the middle of the night is never a good idea. Especially when you have an obsessive crush on said Vulcan.The holidays are approaching and Jim is left entirely Spockless aboard the Enterprise when his First takes shore leave on New Vulcan. After some midnight pining, Jim sends a text he instantly regrets. That is, until Spock responds and willingly continues their textual communications to an inevitable conclusion; rated t; 13,032 words

Cute, sweet, funny. It’s a texting fic. I think you’ve probably figured out I love those. This one makes me laugh so fucking hard. Like actually laugh-out-loud-omg-did-i-just-snort kind of funny. Spock is great in this one

All Spock Wants For Christmas:  While Jim is away on a delegation mission, he panics about what to give Spock for Christmas. With help from Bones and Uhura, and in between some spam texting with Spock, Jim realizes he already has the perfect gift. And all it needs is wrapping paper and a bow; rated t; 11,966 words

And here we have another cute, sweet, funny texting fic. Sue me lol

The Morning After:  Jim convinces Spock to take shore leave with him on Risa, hoping the time together will help re-solidify their bond of friendship after some recent tension. Meanwhile, Spock convinces himself he's on Risa for one reason and one reason only, to prevent his wayward captain from getting into trouble. After a passionately illogical night of Romulan Ale and chocolate infused liquor, everything changes when Jim wakes with something other than a hangover filling his head. Something he's sure neither he nor Spock can handle. Because if Jim knows anything for sure, it's that his messed up thoughts belong nowhere near Spock's clean, ordered mind; rated m; 50,381 words

HAHA. This fic fucking cracks me up. You’ve got drunk boys pining over each other & not realizing it. You’ve got accidental marriage. You’ve got bed sharing. It’s great, it’s cute, it’s funny. 

Take This Sinking Boat (And Point It Home):  In which Spock pines, Jim isn’t stupid (except he kind of is), and Christopher Pike has had enough of this bullshit; 6698 words

Pike is great in this one, and it’s super, super funny.

Extracurricular Activities:   Spock returns to the Academy from a tour of duty to find an intriguing cadet captures his attention; rated e; 15,433 words

Veritas: Basically, Kirk and Spock are on trial because the Federation thinks they are emotionally compromised by each other, which is putting the lives of their crew in danger. They have to convince a court they’re not actually in love with each other. They think the claims are bullshit. They think it will be easy to prove that they aren’t in love or emotionally compromised, damn it. It isn’t; rated m; 186,80 words

This one is so, so good. A real gem off of Fanfic.net. I remember it was actually one of the first Spirk fanfics I ever read, and it blew me away. The progression of their relationship is really well-done and interesting. It has star-crossed lovers vibes and has some really emotionally intense moments in it, especially for Spock. 

A Habitual Affection:  Living in 1930s New York with the Vulcan you're secretly in love with is no simple thing. But Jim never liked anything simple. And then, the big snowstorm hit...; rated t; 7998 words

A beautiful TOS fic about one of the gayest episodes of Star Trek. Love this one. 

Atlas:  Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning; rated t; 135,529 words

A beaut. Really great characterization, and the progression of Jim and Spock’s relationship is really well-done.
