We got to see very, very little interaction between DK and Luigi in the movie, but I like how, from the little they showed, DK was immediately way nicer to Luigi than he was to Mario lol

To be fair, all he knew about Mario when he first met him was that it was his royal duty to kick his ass.

So their initial introduction was pretty antagonistic by design.

Meanwhile, all he knows about Luigi for most of the movie is that he's in trouble. He has no real reason to dislike him, and I imagine that Luigi and Cranky Kong being partners in their near-death experience only endeared him to DK.

Also, Mario and DK share certain personality traits that make them more likely to clash: impulsive, stubborn, actively trying to prove themselves, etc.

But Luigi doesn't roll that way. He's a reluctant underdog, and DK can respect that.
