“What if I brought it for you?” You quip back. 

“I think we were imagining a type of fun that didn’t involve alcohol.” You give him a smile at his words, brows furrowing for a second before brushing off his words. He probably just means they intend to stay sober tonight. You’ve had plenty of nights that were fun that didn’t involve alcohol, so that’s all he meant by his words! Shrugging, you put the wine in the fridge instead of cracking it open, taking his advice to save the drink for another day. 

Dinner is amazing. Chan made it with Felix’s observation, as according to Chan the other shouldn’t be allowed in the kitchen ever again. You laugh as he dives into several stories of baking incidents gone wrong, including a time that Felix and Seungmin ended up burning everything they made. You defend your friend, telling Chan that Felix ‘does make killer brownies,’ which the other can’t argue with. It’s decided that Felix should do most of his cooking alone, as anytime he cooks with anybody else it ends up in a minor disaster. Felix looks thoroughly flushed and embarrassed by the end of your conversation so the two of you relent on your teasing. 

You decide on a movie. It’s not even really that entertaining and you’re barely paying attention if you’re being honest. It’s some movie you’d seen a hundred times before. Winona's birthday is August 2, which makes her a Leo.

She sings 1st soprano and has the highest range of any of my characters.

She redyes her bangs nearly every month, often to fit with an occasion or emotion she is experiencing.

Winona has diagnosed ADHD.

Her favorite animal is a firefly!

Winona's arc mainly centers around learning to focus on oneself rather than emotionally investing completely in others. Out of all the characters, Winona has a pretty easy go of it, haha. The others have a bit more angst in comparison.

Next is my Derek MC, Luella! Again, her story is more internal, but does have some outward elements too.

Here's some basic (and fun) facts!

Luella is Italian and German.

Her full name is Luella Bo Faraway.

Luella's favorite possession is a string bracelet that Derek wove for her while he was at a sport's summer camp one year.

She has diagnosed anxiety, as well as dyslexia.

She is extremely flexible and did gymnastics for her entire childhood/adolescence.

Luella sings alto.

Out of all my MCs, Luella is the best at drawing and has a creative eye.

Her birthday is March 18, making her a Pisces.

Luella gets all her facial piercings done over the course of time between Step 3 and 4, except for her nose ring, which she already has in Step 3.

Luella's legal guardian and parental figure is her elder sister, who was 20 years old whenever she was 13. Luella's story heavily revolves around survivor's guilt and self-worth.

Wooo, next one is the one and only Baxter MC, Vérène! She is by far one of the most angsty of the MCs. Baxter is in part responsible for that, but there is also some family stuff involved.

Vérène is from Nice, France and moved to Sunset Bird when she was 11 (which means she was not present for Step 1).

She is fluent in both French and English and will use either depending on appropriateness and setting.

Vérène's full name is Vérène Dominique Alcott.

This isn't necessarily a character thing, but Vérène was the absolute hardest MC for me to decide a final design for.

Vérène bakes as a hobby, and likes to chat with Xavier about it.

She was born on February 10th, making her an Aquarius.

Vérène grows up with an old cat, then as adult rescues kittens when he passes away.

Her favorite flower is a sunflower.

She is a mezzo-soprano.

She lives with only her mother for a majority of her life following a gnarly divorce. Vérène's story has mostly themes of overcoming old emotions, as well as abandonment issues. Forgiveness (or lack thereof) is also very prevalent in her lore.

So! That's it for my OL:BA MCs. Let's move onto the two OL:NF MCs!

Let's start with Mina! As I've mentioned in other posts, Mina is Vérène's cousin. My other OL:NF MC, Maël, is her twin brother. Her love interest is Qiu. Like their cousin, Mina and Maël moved from Nice, France when they were 10.

Mina is French on her mom's side, but Swedish on the side of her donor's.

Mina is not fluent in English during Step 1, but that didn't impede her at all -- she learns a majority of her English from other kids (and one of them even teaches her some Japanese).

She learns the piano and plays it in her free time.

One of Mina's number-one passions is ice skating, and she often uses it as escapism.

Her birthday is June 23, making her a Cancer.

She has always loved mysterious and detective shows.

Her full name is Mina Octavia Linwood.

Mina is hyperopic, meaning she struggles to see things that are close to her eyes (hence her glasses).

Mina loves antique/old things and collects trinkets of that nature.

Most of her story is about self-confidence and self-denial, as well as discovering oneself. Qiu may have something to do with that, hehe.

Last but certainly not least of the MCs, we have Maël! I'll spare you most of his background context because he comes from the same place as Mina, haha. His love interest is Tamarack!

Similar to his sister, he's also not fluent in English during Step 1 -- but he's much shier about it. Mina basically becomes his shield.

He knows French and English, but also ASL.

He was born on June 23, making him a cancer (hmmm, sounds familiar LOL).

Maël plays baseball during Step 2, and during that time he builds up a lot of his confidence and social status.

Similar to Qiu, Maël is lactose intolerant!

Maël grows up to be a teacher due to Mrs. Murray's influence.

He has ADHD that goes undiagnosed until Step 3.

Maël babysits for his neighbors during Step 2 (he is known to be very good with kids).

He could be very good in school if he applied himself more, but he doesn't like school environment and how homework functions, so his grades suffer.

Maël's story deals with things like comparison to others and healing harmful complexes.

This is like... the only art of Maël that I have... featuring Tammy!

Phew! Okay. Finally, I'll quickly go over side characters that exist at the time of posting this.

I would like to stress that just because they're referred to as 'side characters', that doesn't mean I like them less than any other characters. A lot of them still have intricate lore and lives and I love them dearly -- they're just referred to like that because, through the lens of the game, that's what they are.

The entire Linwood family is technically side characters. Sonia, Jude, Beau, Raoul, and Quincy are all cousins to Mina, Maël, and Vérène. Sonia and Jude have already been written in (especially in Mina's story, and the other three probably will too, once I'm done designing them). Sonia's boyfriend Dante might also get a cameo here and there.

Otherwise, you have my OCs that are friends with the MCs.

All of my OL:BA MCs (Winona, Vérène, and Luella) are all within the same group, which consists of them and the canon characters. They don't really have any important friends beyond the ones provided in OLBA (and eachother).

BUT Mina and Maël are different. Mina's close friend group consists of Tamarack, my characters Rex, Diana, Sonia, Maxine, and my friend's OC Yuki.

Maël's close friend group is Qiu, Renee, and my characters Florian, Phoenix, and Róisín.

These characters will likely get posts of their own, and it's possible that more side characters will be developed as time goes on. Okay... I think that's all, LOL.

I. Disinterest 

First of all, who asked for this? To me the appeal of F1 is how exclusive and confined it is. There are only 10 teams and 20 drivers you have to learn about which makes it very easy to become super invested. If you want to step outside that, you can learn more about the lower formulas or past seasons(there’s many of them!!!!) So why would I, someone extremely invested in the people and narrative already taking place, even remotely care about some made up drivers? Especially since they’re not JUST made up drivers, they’re made up drivers in the background of REAL drivers. I am highly invested in the results of current F1, so why would I want to watch a movie where those results and drivers are in the background. I’d rather just watch DTS, which is a crazy statement within itself.

I’ve actually thought a lot about how one could mesh real and fake within a sport like F1. Cause I daydream about my OCs in F1 haha, but then start thinking too hard about the logistics of it all. I came to the conclusion that putting fake F1 drivers into the real story is just not a great idea. Because you’re disrupting the actual results and inserting yourself into them, and also as I said, putting real life people in the background out of self interest. It just complicates things so much to add outside elements to such an insulated sport. If this movie had made up a completely fake grid, I’d honestly be all for it and probably would be pretty interested. Like, wow, give me a whole franchise of this!!! Give me a movie about every fake team!!! Get me invested!! But at the end of the day, I’m always going to care about the real life drivers more

In other racing movies, that are biopics, there is a focus of maybe one or two drivers. And those other drivers that were in the grid at the same time become background characters. BUT it’s in service of a real life story with real life people many may already be emotionally invested in. They’re not just turning the rest of the drivers into background characters in order to prop up their own fake F1 drivers, but rather just putting the focus on a story that deserves to be told. There’s so many stories that deserve to be told in F1, literal decades of stories. Why are they putting so much money and effort in service of a story that no one knows or cares about. 

Also I can already tell this movie is gonna be like…60% action, 40% plot. Again, if I wanted any of those things, I’d watch actual F1. It feels like a male power fantasy for men who wish they could try driving F1 cars.

II. Invasive 

I really dislike how involved it is with F1. You know, F1, something that is people’s legitimate job? It’s already a very flashy sport with so much publicity around it, why do you have to unnecessarily  add to that? Their cars being on the actual grid, the fake drivers being in the media pen. I just find the whole idea of them inserting themselves into modern F1 to be so weird. 

All those clips of Brad Pitt alongside the actual drivers genuinely make my skin crawl, it’s soooooooo fucking weird. Like that one clip of him standing alongside them for the anthem. Imagine you work your whole life and put so much blood, sweat, and tears into getting into F1, and then this rich asshole is allowed to roleplay next to you. There’s already enough pressure with the netflix cameras around all the time. And now they’re forced to be in a movie as well. Maybe I’m self centered but I’d be so annoyed if they were making a film about my sport and then I find out I’m only there to be a background character in a story about made up drivers. It just makes me cringe so much to imagine him pretending to be an F1 driver next to the actual drivers, like is that not embarrassing???

The social medias….very strange. Like the stuff with them using Paul Aron as their rookie. Even if they did get his permission, which I’m still not sure about, it’s so weird to me. Like oh the main characters are made up but you’re still willing to use other drivers in the pursuit of your own story. I’m sorry but is that not weird to anyone else???? I dislike how much this movie blurs the line between fiction and reality, involving real life drivers whenever it’s convenient. Looking at their socmed makes me cringe so much. I’m sure a bunch of self insert writers or novel writers would do the same but they’d get bullied. Yet a bunch of grown ass men are allowed to literally roleplay on twt/insta and it’s suddenly fine and normal? Lmao their most recent post is the FP1 results from Hungary. Is it not so fucking weird for them to make up placements, and thus just ignore the actual drivers who got those positions? Imagine you’re Lando and you got P6 and you go on instagram and suddenly discover that you did not in fact get P6, but rather Sonny Hayes did! Wow that 60 yr old sure is a good driver. 

And let us not forget to mention them making memorial posts for Senna and Jules Bianchi. That actually made me feel sickened, especially the Jules one. Imagine using a real life tragedy for publicity on your roleplay twitter. Is that fucking creepy???? Like why of all things would you choose THAT to play along with. They’re a made up team that is in no way associated with either drivers, so why are they talking about them? What is the point. 

Okay but that clip of Fernando staring at Brad Pitt, I’m fucking dying. I wish he could give his actual thoughts on it. Like what is it like to see a guy older than you, pretending to be an F1 driver, while you are there, doing your actual job. I like to think he had a dementia moment and was like, “hey wait when did that guy join the grid? I thought I was the oldest!?”

III. Dramatising

There already is a pretty big issue in this community where the drivers are treated like characters, and not real people. There’s so many people out there who just watch DTS and treat F1 like a soap opera. People who only know about F1 in the context of made up drama, and now there's gonna be a movie about made up drama. This movie further blurs the lines between fiction and reality. Again, they’re literally turning the F1 drivers into background characters of a movie. Like, wow you’re not real people anymore, your lives exist in the back of this story now. Imagine how confusing this would be as a new fan.

I know they’re all a bunch of rich privileged guys but, at the end of the day, this is still their job, not just fodder for drama. I want the sanctity of F1 to be respected okay. It's such a cool sport to me and I love all the real stuff about it, and I don't like the way media treats it and changes it.

IV. Old Man Self Insert

I basically covered this in my other categories but I just want to complain more. I really really despise that this movie just feels like some old guy really wanted to drive F1 cars and had to come up with a reason to justify it. I feel like someone who is a serious F1 fan would want to honor the actual history and context  of the sport more, y’know? Not just make a blatant self insert film, inserting himself in the literal daily life of the actual drivers. It annoys me bcs this is a sport where people start getting called old when they hit 30, not that I agree with that but I’m just saying, it’s a very ageist sport where youth seems to be valued over most other things. My resident GOAT old man, who is 18 years younger than Pitt, constantly has people saying how he should retire to give younger drivers more of a chance. So why the hell in a sport with this environment are we getting a movie about a 60 YEAR OLD driver. It’s just so clearly a self motivated passion project, and Domenicalli and others want to milk F1 for all the money it's worth. Okay so a made up team is allowed to be 11th and yet you keep shunning actual teams that could join and bring in more publicity/money? Okay, okay…

V. Misc

I’m ngl it feels like a made up team would have an easier job getting into F1 if they really wanted to, because of the publicity. And yet Andretti cannot. Imagine a docu film about a brand new team joining F1 for the first time ever and the trials and tribulations it takes to be a new team in such a historical, bloodthirsty sport. But nah let’s put all that money and effort into a make believe story. 

But yeah they’re not really doing anything inventive anyways. Wow an old man driver who they’re probably gonna pretend is not completely age inaccurate for this sport. And the supposed dynamic of it. Isn’t it supposed to be Brad Pitt’s chara coming back to mentor a rookie prodigy?? When are teammate relationships ever that nice?????? The only similar relationship I can think of is Seb and Micheal but they were on diff teams, and RBR was a lot better than Merc atp. I feel like the only time you see mentor-like relationships is either when the two are on diff teams, the car is an absolute backmarker, or the mentor absolutely outclasses the rookie. 

The fucking “who cares about safety” line, who authorized that????? Thinking about how I almost got ripped to shreds on here for talking about how refueling was interesting, and yet a blockbuster is allowed to disregard safety??? And weren’t they saying in that trailer that they have to make the car for battle? Is their strat being terrorists??

VI. Javier Bardem

GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH WHY DOES ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTORS HAVE TO BE IN THIS SHIT FUCKING MOVIE GOD DAMN YOU JAVIER YOU MOTHERFUCKER!!! 

It is very painful to me that he’s gonna be in this movie, and that his doppelganger who you may know as Fernando Alonso will also guest star. Like I don’t want to give this film money nor do I want to watch it. But the fact that there’s the possibility of seeing Fernando Alonso beloved on the big screen…it’s so tempting.

It’s just irritating cause his chara in the trailer DOES seem like smth I’d actually be interested in. Like I think he’s gonna be a dubious team owner or TP and man….that’s so perfect. But not in the context of the full movie lmao. So who will be the brave soul and make the Javier Bardem and Fernando Alonso cut for me? Maybe I will ask my brother to write down the timestamps for me. 

I digress. There’s probably some things I forgot to complain about but this is what I came up with <3 I hate you Brad Pitt and I hate you Domenicalli and I hate you MBS, etc etc. Lmao you know what this feels like? When you're in a fandom for a fandom for a franchise like the MCU or SW, and nrw shows/movies come out and you feel like they're bastardizing the whole franchise. This is what this movie is to me.

Anon I'm sorry for the delay in replying, I was thinking it through!! But it's nice to have something positive to talk about haha.

The loves of my life tbh. I really really like jily even though I think my snapeishness means I'm not as involved in mainstream jily fandom. I mean enemies to lovers always has its appeal and to me james and lily are a realistic, imperfect- but all the more compelling for it- appealing dynamic.

Obviously we don't get to see a lot of their actual relationship in canon, but I think that's why it's so fun to fill in the blanks. Personally I think it's pretty normal that they were drawn to each other and ended up in a relationship from what we know- they're both pretty big personalities, intelligent and charming and brave, they have similar goals and beliefs about the world, there was attraction early on (obviously in james's case, more or less confirmed by jkr in lily's- and b4 anyone starts in on lily for being attracted to him that's not something one can control, and she probs wasn't aware anyway).

Lily basically hated his guts, with good reason, so to go from that to dating there had to be a pretty big shift in both james and in their relationship (and likely lily too, or that's my belief). Honestly what I think is that in their final years at Hogwarts, the encroaching war brought on this new seriousness, and as lines were more clearly drawn in the sand it became obvious that lily and the marauders were on the same side of it. Things like sports, popularity, rivalries cease to matter in the face of a life-or-death conflict, you're forced to grow up and deal with it, and while for Severus this brought out the worst in him, for James it brought out the best.

People talk about James changing but I think a post SWM-lily was also changing. She set a very clear boundary with Sev and I think that was an important character development moment for her. Again, the war was on the horizon, their priorities were becoming clear, and I see Lily as becoming more sure of herself and her beliefs, less tolerant of bullshit from those around her. James was becoming more circumspect, more open-minded, more responsible, so when lily and the marauders were thrown together in natural alliance the two of them were just at a point where they were compatible.

I don't think their relationship was perfect and idyllic and all that, that would be less interesting anyway. It was probably hard sometimes. One thing I love when fics explore is the class differences between James and Lily; not only is he pureblood while she's muggleborn, but he comes from wealth where she comes from a humble little working-class family in the mids. There was probably a lot of stuff James didn't understand about her life; I feel like he probably tried his best anyway. Lily probably felt intimidated or defensive about her own background at times.

I don't doubt that they argued; in fact they got off on it probably enjoyed arguing with each other, given their personalities. Both of them were intelligent, opinionated, had an arguing kink, fiery people. Like I don't think it was this exaggerated screaming match sort of thing but I'm sure they loved a healthy spirited debate which maybe got a little out of hand sometimes.

I have touched on this previously but I see James as deep down pretty insecure (who isnt in this world apart from sirius black) and I think initially he was probably pretty insecure about Lily too. I do see him regretting his previous behaviour and thinking he isn't good enough for her and that he's incredibly lucky to be with her. which is true and he should suffer. but I have an upcoming scene (lily's first time at the potters') where james is like "i feel like i'm not good enough for you" and lily's like "shut up i'm the one who's not good enough for you" and they're like "great. i guess we're not good enough for each other. sorted i guess." My point being James actively tried to be a better man, Lily saw that and admired it. because she's good and wonderful like that.

Idk I guess I see it kind of as a realistic, flawed, but ultimately loving relationship. I'm sure there was a lot of stuff they had to work on over the few years they got :( but I'm also sure they had a lot of fun together because to me they just seem really compatible in so many ways as humans.

My belief is that they got married quickly because of the war (I also believe this about frank and alice, even though i see them as older) but it's likely they would have ended up married anyway, or at least in a long term, healthy, happy relationship.

Also the pottermore entry about Vernon and Petunia is my absolute fave for many reasons (love the vertunia of it all ofc) but also the little snippet about jily is golden. The double date between vertunia and jily is perhaps one of my favourite scenes I've ever written haha it's just such a good moment, basically the only canon info we do get about while they were dating.

So, I don't really make posts about life here very often anymore, but I've got one that I am really excited about.

I've got a girlfriend now. We met on Tinder, really hit it off, went on a date, had a really great night, and we had a really lengthy, involved conversation covering expectations and the like, then decided to make it a thing on 2 November. Made it FB official the next day.

They also use they/them pronouns, but like the term girlfriend. They're a fan of hockey, so they might be what finally leads to me paying attention to the sport, haha.

I'm pretty damn excited.

Rambling about headcanons for the Movers' & Nina's parents!

Rich -

Rich's dad is a coach, so no doubt that's how Rich got involved in sports. From the dad episode, we see that his dad is a decisive person, making plans and strategising, so that likely contributed alot to Rich's leadership skills. I also think he is kind but quite strict, so as a kid Rich was taught to train a lot (for sports especially) and maybe sometimes push/challenge himself (in a healthy way at least).

Rich's mom we know of she likes sailboats, and from her picture, I get the vibe of a someone who is refined (?) or maybe an arts connoisseur. I think is where Rich got his more creative and artistic side. He follows his mom in how she likes taking care of her appearance, and her charismatic personality.

Scott -

Both of Scott's parents are creative people, with his mom I headcanon to be a writer or poet (because her love of poetry) and his dad.. idk if he is a puppeteer or puppetmaker but he seems like a gentleman that enjoys going to theatre performances or something (he does have kind of like opera binoculars). I think they are very gentle parents with Scott, and his mom especially dotes on him (?) with how she'd hold his hand when he is scared and all that. They are kind of protective parents, so they were very relieved when Scott made very good friends and is able to live well without them.

Smitty -

Smitty's dad is like an adventurer or explorer (?) of some sort idk, could be some sort of zoologist. Very obvious where Smitty's love and knowledge for nature and the outdoors comes from.

I know less of Smitty's mom other than she loves to cook, so I headcanon that she is a volunteer for animal shelter or nature conservation things like that, so Smitty is used to handling with animals. His mom is also a great cook, and he learned to bake fairly well from her. And I guess his cowboy side (?) comes from his mom rather than his dad, so idk if they've in the countryside ?

Dave -

It seems like being an inventor is a family thing, with Dave's dad being a professor and his uncle being an inventor too. With that I wonder if Dave felt some sort of pressure in being one. As in, he is in the line of great inventors and he feels the need to achieve that level of greatness (?) as well. I don't think his family pressures him, but it's more to Dave himself wanting to meet that expectation that he sees in others, since he was pretty gifted/smart kid growing up.

Dave's mom likes gardening, and maybe I could headcanon her to be a gardener florist or something, but she feels like a homemaker to me ? idk lol, I think she likes knitting and crafting, and is active in joining communities for that sort of hobby. Idk when Dave got his hat but I just like to think that his mom got it for him. How and where? idk maybe from a magical shop at a magical place like 123 Cherry Tree Lane lol. Also I think Dave's witty (?) or snarkiness (?) comes from his mom haha.

Nina -

At the moment, I headcanon her mom to be Hawaiian and her dad to be Boreovian (Knit Knots's brother, maybe younger). It might change once I figure out about it later tho. Her mom is fun-loving and her dad was kind of a boring person like knit knots but with curiousity for excitement (?), and had then become a more fun person especially after meeting Nina's mom. Her dad and Knit Knots are close and keep in touch, and Nina is close to her uncle because of that. I also think her dad still has an appreciation for boring stuff.

For her mom, a lot of things I think would be covered in the mom episode and episodes about Hawaii. Like, her mom likes yoyos, fluffy things, and just in general a cute-loving person. Nina takes a lot from her mom with her cheery and friendly personality, and she follows her dad in being prepared (?) way ahead.

Line cook Joel origin story drabble

Here’s what I think line cook Joel’s origin story is, some info about him and Sarah, his general personality and interests, relationship history etc that might explain what he’s like in my series Belong to me

This is my most self indulgent series and Joel iteration, be warned lmao

Warnings: SPOILERS for ch 1-3, mentions of child abandonment

Word count: 1.2k

Joel is 40 in this AU, and I feel like it takes place in 2005ish, which doesn’t really come through in the chapters but it’s how I see the whole situation in my head.

Joel had Sarah at 24, with a sort of low commitment on and off girlfriend at the time who was somewhere in the 22-24 range. I’m not sure why she decided to go through with the pregnancy (pressure from her parents, maybe?) but she did, and Joel figured he would be involved as a typical baby daddy, having the kid live with their mom and seeing them as often as possible. However, her mom likely decided she was gonna put Sarah up for adoption, which was obviously an immediate fuck no from Joel, who basically swooped in and got custody of her. The mom moved to another city, and I don’t think Sarah or Joel ever heard from her again. 

Out of all my fics, this is the one in which Sarah’s mom has been involved the least. In my other tales (Joel is always a dad in my works haha), her mom usually is mentioned to have been involved for 1-5 years, but in this one she was not involved at all, and I think Joel’s sole responsibility for her from such a young age has made their bond very strong. I definitely see them being best friends and having a very good line of communication. 

He worked in construction for many years until his early 30s (hence why he still has a truck instead of a regular car), then when he’d gotten to a pretty high level with cooking at home, Sarah pushed him to apply for a cooking job. He was tired of the long hours working in construction and thought it would be a nice change to have some free time. He’s pretty grumpy at work because he prefers working individually and doesn’t care to get involved in anyone’s disputes in a high pressure environment like that, doesn’t like to excessively share about his life etc. He’s very observant and definitely cares about the people around him, but he likes being left alone to do his work efficiently so he doesn't have to get stressed or fall behind.

Speaking of work; Jermaine, who they stole cigs from and is also a cook at the restaurant, is one of his closest friends, and they like to hang out from time to time. If Sarah is out doing things on the weekend or at a sleepover, I can see Joel and Jermaine playing GTA San Andreas and eating at his house, maybe he also plays on his basketball team. Jermaine is like 37 or something and more outgoing than Joel. He's definitely around if Sarah needs something and Joel isn't available, sort of like an uncle next to Tommy. His relationship to Tommy is fine, though he says in an upcoming chapter that he's "done enough for that jackass" in what is, presumably, a loving way but probably has some truth behind it.

This whole basketball thing is very funny to me for some reason, but here’s the story: 

Joel played basketball in middle and high school (purely because he ended up being 6’6” and his parents put him in sports very quickly), and continued to play on different teams in his 20s/30s at a competitive level. At this point, I see him playing on a long term recreational team and DON’T @ me if this sounds insane, cause I know very little about basketball, but I think he’s a power forward on his team. 

If he wants Sarah to do him a favor, he definitely tells her that he “passed up an opportunity to play in the NBA to raise her instead” which is a massive lie. He has dragged Sarah along to many basketball games throughout the years, and she gets kinda bored but knows it means a lot to him that she’s there. She prefers watching pro/college basketball with him, though, and they do that often. 

Other than that, in his free time, he works out at the gym pretty often, and for two reasons. One is to be a better player, the second is that he wants to give Sarah some space and not have her feel like he’s breathing down her neck all the time. So he gives her the house to herself for a few hours to decompress after being around people at school all day, while he goes to work out, then he comes home and makes her dinner. 

Entertainment wise, I see him liking a lot of 90s hip hop (Radio Los Santos anyone?) and he definitely is a Sopranos enjoyer. He probably does a really shitty Tony impression.

At work, he wears black pants, black t-shirts, and black high top converse shoes. At home I see him wearing a pretty typical combo of jeans, basketball shorts (obvi haha), sweatpants, t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, hoodies etc. This is likely my only non-flannel shirt wearing Joel. He of course wears a jersey and shorts while playing ball. 

As I mentioned, he doesn’t talk much about his life at work but he sometimes talks about Sarah, I think. They went on vacation together to Jamaica or something once and, when he came back, the waitress was like oooh, you’re so tan, look at you, and he was kinda flattered by her being touchy so he showed her vacation photos on his phone hahahaha

I obviously have to address his relationship to the waitress girly, so here:

As mentioned in ch 1, he has a very long term “crush” on her that started when she began working at the restaurant. I think they started talking more when she jokingly asked him to make her dinner cause she forgot to eat and then he actually did it, and she kept “forgetting” to eat so he kept cooking for her, and then she started bugging him on his breaks and he secretly liked it so then he started waiting for her to come out and keep him company. Also I say “crush” cause he’s obviously in love with her but hasn’t wanted to admit it to himself or anyone else haha, and she’s the same way back - which is why the narration is the way it is, with her actions showing her feelings but her not really conceptualizing them for herself, if that makes sense  

I think he said yes to her request to get her pregnant because, deep down, he does have a desire to have more kids, to be in a long term relationship etc. And sure, it’s a very unconventional way of going about it, but there’s obviously something in him that knows that he and this girl have a real chance at a relationship, so that confidence made him go okay, fuck it, let’s just do this completely out of order haha 

Prior to this, though, dating wise, I think he was in some relationships here and there, had some hookups but none of them really lasted all too long. Some of that might’ve been because he had full custody of Sarah and was never really by himself, he worked a lot, and always put Sarah first. Essentially he would need someone to fit into that puzzle, he wasn’t gonna try to make someone fit, they had to know and understand his situation and want to be a part of it.

How do you view new fans? i've never been more connected to f1 than i have over the past 5 years because of shows like dts, which was only created and remained in production because of the new fans. it's also meant more women are discovering it and we all know that when the ladies get involved it can only get better!

If you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why? aston martin so i can gut that place from the inside out. dark green is my colour and i would look so hot destroying the stroll family… then i could see myself having a love-child with fernando while we conquer the world. what a dream!

Are your friends and family into F1 as well? i'm lucky to have friends who love it but i really do enjoy watching the races with you guys when it's in a reasonable timezone for me. it's fun watching everyones reactions in real time.

Hmmm... I'm naturally good with money, is that a talent? 😂 my aunt always says "you have both Dutch and Chinese blood. You were destined to be good with money!" Name's Sam. I'm 21 and in my Junior year here. Moved from Music City, Tennessee a few years back. Nashville in case you’re wondering. If it wasn't for my aunt I never would have heard of WMU. I'm into movies, shows, music, games, comics, dogs, sports... Basically anything that involves any sort of storytelling. My comfort movie is Star Wars: New Hope and comfort movies are anything 90s McConaughey. I listen to ALL types of music but got a big ol' soft spot for classic rock. Country, too. My folks used to play Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn for me whenever I got fussy as a baby.

My major's in Game Programming, which I never, ever thought I'd do. Numbers are like oil and water. It doesn’t mix. But coding's pretty cool! With help from the tutor lab, which I highly encourage you use, I get to help create badass games! Minor is Strength and Conditioning. Fitness is important to me. Health and fitness to be exact. A good chunk of the time you’ll either find me sweating in the gym, playing ball, tossing a frisbee around, or running around campus. Since I got such a love for movies I took on the Cinema History and Theory course because come on. Movies! I get to talk about them for an hour? What's not to love?!

Oh, and if football's your jam you gotta hit the stadium and root for me and the rest of the Titan team and Cheerios! It's chilly now but you'll warm up quick once the game gets going!

Omg not the baby trapping in romance books 😭, I haven't touched a romance book in a long time and I don't particularly enjoy those books (it feels like maybe it was part of a dark romance one) but I can totally understand the feeling 😂, sometimes I see or hear things that are fucked up and that I would hate in a physical book BUT IN A FIC, YOU'LL HAVE ME THINKING OF EUNSEOK TRYING TO TRAP READER FOR HOURS LATER.

Not long ago I was watching a movie about cartels/narcos and it made me think of Eunseok working for a dangerous group and visiting reader every now and then to check on her in her little town in which they have a big control. Reader at first doesn't want to be involved with him but after seeing the benefits of being with him she can't just leave him. It's like, you know it is wrong to be with someone like him, but he pampers you so much and is so soft with you when you're alone that you can't do much more than accept him, and the sex is nasty and rough at first but then it becomes so tender 😭🩷 (not me romanticizing any scenario 💀), wtv the point is I imagined reader thinking how to make him quit and getting pregnant on purpose just so he would take her with him and run away 🤧😂 (so yeah, I really think I'm the worst because I have to always put sometimes romantic even in these thoughts 👹)

Oooh this is a good question! TYSM for asking! So, first, I don't think I'll include any of this in the stories (we'll see!) bc the reader is a civilian, which means that most of their school/personal life won't involve any known characters. I always get nervous adding OCs to these stories because most people are reading for the batboys obvs. Even if y/n is interested in someone who is a vigilante/villain and she doesn't know it, Bruce and the rest of the fam are on top of keeping them out of her lives. However! I do have some ideas about what her life looks like outside of the bat fam under the cut!

School Y/n, even though she's adopted, is still considered Bruce's daughter. She's the richest girl in Gotham, even among the kids at the academy. She's popular by nature and often gets a lot of invites to parties and events. She doesn't usually accept those invites because a lot of these events are unsupervised, and she's afraid of scandal. Y/n gets good grades. Whether or not she's a total academic superstar/genius is up to you, but she's an A-/B+ student at least. She's not out fighting crime so Bruce is really strict about her doing her homework and having things completed. Dick was a C student when he was in school, Jason and Tim are dropouts, and Damian doesn't do any homework. Even though they're all smart, you can't always pass by acing your tests. Especially if you're absent for some of those, too. Bruce is on her back about going to college and stuff, since he's grooming her to be in charge of the family's image if that makes sense? He just needs one kid to be normal and show up to things tbh She's for sure got extracurriculars. Not being a superhero means she has a lot of free time! The specifics are up to you! -if she's academically inclined, she's probably in debate or robotics -if she's socially inclined, she'll be in student government or prom court -if neither of those are appealing, she could do some volunteering, although you will pretty much always have to run it by Bruce and he'd make Damian go with you. Damian is a good guy but he is pretty abrasive and a little socially inept. He'll end up making some people uncomfortable in the process which is kind of antithetical to the gesture haha Relationships Y/n has had one or two relationships, but they were undoubtably somewhat juvenile. Going to diners/getting ice cream/walks in the park/carnival dates. They wouldn't have spent much time alone in private. I think Y/n has fooled around with these partners but not often/ has not had penetrative sex until Silas. She has a lot of anxiety over being a young woman in this setting, and has probably witnessed a lot of her more notable female classmates being shamed for sexual promiscuity in gossip rags or like online. I feel like y/n probably saw a few of those creepy 'countdown to her 18th birthday' things for herself when she was 14/15 and ever since then has been hyper aware that whoever she ends up dating/having sex with could have some incentive to publicize it. Which is socially fine if you're a dude, but can be damning for a young woman. This is why she decides to lose her virginity to Silas before the story starts. He's another wealthy kid from her school but moved there from another city two years ago. He rejects his family's wealth and thinks it makes him deep, which is why he genuinely didn't know who reader was when they met.

He doesn't care about money or popularity because he already technically has both, and up until your party you'd had no reason to believe that he'd tell anyone. Thanks for letting me info dump about my silly little series!

That friend or acquaintance of Elliot leaking information on social media about what's going on with y/n seems sus af. Lando seems vary, too. I'm curious if there's an explanation to this and whether Elliot will talk to her about it.

Then of course... her conversation with Elliot. Like what was even going on with them? 😅 Don't get me wrong, I still don't like the guy for various reasons, and it's a little weird how he's digging up all that stuff about her on the internet and now also by listening to f1 podcasts, using it in their convos, when she hasn't even told him herself. And the way he brought up the RB results and talking about Max obviously knowing nothing about f1, probs wasn't the best way to show some interest. But wow did she go off!!

The funny thing about it is that her first immediate answer sounds rather sweet with the 'arww' and the cute emoji and all of a sudden - bam! Writing a whole essay on how he should not talk about people she cares about. I'm sure he didn't even understand what it was he said that made her flip. 😅

I love how she's texting Max after that, blowing Elliot off and not even further explaining herself. 🤣

I think those multiple 'no's and the yes to a call is pretty spot on for Max after the day that he's had!

Look, people get a bit messy when there’s “fame” involved. Clout is a drug lol. Tbf as cute as it is that Lando is protective, I think he’s probably fallen prey to that. They will definitely need to talk about it though, because Y/N and definitely Max keep a small circle and wouldn’t want things leaking like that. Provided Elliot survives the weekend without getting blocked lol.

Tbf to Elliot it wasn’t a podcast, it was sports radio on his way home and he just paid attention to the f1 bit which he normally doesn’t. But yeah, he for sure has a bunch of information on her that she didn’t give him, some he searched for some he didn’t, and all of it is playing on his mind.

She was definitely mad from the start and lulling him into a false sense of security. I think she was giving him a second to see where he would go with it and then she was like nah can’t hold it in how dare he. Because what he said was so out of pocket. But then, it’s also typical of guys to do that - they think trashing something is how they sound informed. He stepped on a landmine though lol. Honestly if a man came at my best friend, who they’d never even met, and with the most ignorant and irrelevant opinion…I’d have picked up his call to give him an earful.
