When penelope was sassily like oh I'll marry you if you make a living bed out of this tree right here! Cue penelope stumbling over odysseus very very carefully digging up the tree "because how else is he going to get it to itacha we can't have a wedding bed out in the open in sparta duh"

2. Penelope, knowing that Helen's suitors would soon be arriving to take over her home for a while. Snuck out and went on her own wacky shenanigan filled journey where she scoped out all the major players. Odysseus caught her spying in an olive tree. One thing I find funny/interesting is that Odysseus constantly refers to himself as "Telemachus' loving father" (or at least some variant of that depending on the translation) during the Iliad, which is something only he is shown to do compared to his fellow Achaeans. (Maybe the others would have done this themselves but since most of the other kings/commanders either didn't have kids yet or they had more than one child so they just didn't want to show favoritism, as Odysseus only has one.)

I think we all can agree that it's just him being his weird self and loving his baby boy so much. He doesn't even know if he made it past infancy but he knows he's proud of Telemachus and that he loves him.

In the ODYSSEY, however, he never refers to himself as that. It's always "Son of Laertes". I don't think he stops because he's "not proud of his son anymore." I think it's because he's no longer among friends/fellow kings. He's now dealing with monsters and immortals.

I love this quirk he has as it's so endearing but I'm also SO thankful that he didn't tell Polyphemus about Telemachus. I know it probably doesn't mean much as he still is saying who he is but in a way he's protecting his son from possible enemies.

I guess it means Odysseus doesn't mind if Laertes has to deal with a cyclops but whatever

there’s a question to be asked i think about to what extent “getting out” can be conflated with “being saved” in this show, and what freedom actually means to any of these characters.

like you can argue that shiv saved ken by voting against him on gojo, but what if your intent behind saving someone is to inflict a worse punishment than if you’d just left them trapped? can a child weaned on poison survive on milk, or are you just sentencing them to a death by inches, starved of the only thing they know? and if you save someone specifically because you know that being saved is the worst thing that can happen to them, is that kindness or cruelty? at what point does a good thing become a malicious act?

and you can say that roman is finally free, but what exactly is he free from? the company? his father? does unlocking a cage mean saving a dog, or are you allowing him out on the street knowing there’s a kill shelter nearby? if the driving anxiety behind roman is that he’s an idiot and a failure—that he’ll never amount to anything, and trying will only lead to pain—and he’s finally cut loose once all of those anxieties have crystallized into cold hard fact in his mind, what has he actually escaped from? if the cage is in your mind, is it even possible for somebody else to unlock it?

the fundamental truth of a tragedy is that even being saved can be a death sentence, if the characters are incapable of escaping the thing doing them the most harm (themselves and their childhoods)

#'what about shiv' if i think about shiv i'm going to kill myself. she needs her own post. there's too much there to get into.#anyways seeing a tremendous amount of At Least Roman Is Free <3 tags that have me going. right. for sure. free from what?#because it's certainly not the intense amount of self disgust that has driven him in circles this entire time.#i fear he may feel the weight of alienation on his soul for the rest of his life. and he won't even try to alleviate it anymore.#and ALSO the idea that shiv went out of her way to save kendall as an act of like. altruism. like it was a sacrifice on her part #which i feel is a very toothless perspective on shiv and the psychological torment that's been weighing on her essentially since birth #like her choice in regards to gojo is one of the meatiest most harrowing bits of character work i've ever seen #and while of course there was love inside that action (because nothing these characters do is entirely divorced from love)#i don't think it was necessarily a kind or forgiving or sacrificial love #like this was an intense vitriolic snapping from a dog that has been kicked by her dad all her life.#and who absolutely refuses to accept that from her brother (because that would mean acknowledging that kendall takes the mantle of Dad-#and that she's subservient to him. which is the one thing she absolutely will never do #because it's a level of degradation that's finally a step too far)#anyways. um. insane season that i still can't look at directly or i'll perish on the spot.#succession

Tumblr spamming billford and billfiddlesford has singlehandedly gotten me to finally watch Gravity Falls and I can't even be mad lol

#this show is actually so good so far!! I just barely passed the middle of season 1 but I'm having way more fun than I'd expected #I'm watching it with friends too and we've got the whole spectrum (not the autistic one) - one of us has already seen the whole show #one of us has watched it out of order #I've only seen plot points and vague spoilers online while the last of us knows NOTHING about gravity falls minus memes #Ford popped up in an episode recently and we had me and the first friend jumping out of our seats and the last being so confused LOL #I can't watch it all the time cause my friends are busy tho 😔#they're actually doing homework and being responsible??? 🤨 (cringe moment /j)#but I have to bully them every once in a while to watch it since I wanna know what makes this show's plot hook so many folks #(billford fanfics are so fun to read in the meantime when I barely know any plot context btw xD)#but yeah that's what I've been doing recently lol #this show's constantly got me dangling on the edge of a hyperfixation and I love it still #gravity falls #fenn rambles

idk if it's because my mum worked in a tv magazine or what but all the media wars and backstabbing and stuff happening behind the cameras is so so interesting to me

#just saw what happened yesterday in la revuelta ojalá se muera el enano pelirrojo #so for non-spaniards here's a crash course on the situation (i could do a post about media groups in spain cause it's a lot)#there's this one late night show that's been on air for about 15 years called el hormiguero #it started fine (i used to watch it with my family when it started)#but soon there were some issues that people were seeing #especially concerning the presenter (who's also the head ofthe show) pablo motos #and his attitude with female guests he'd interview #basically being very weird and gross around them #apart from that in the last year he started to get very political in the show #he invited right and far right leaders while refusing to do so with the left wing #started making monologues at the beginning of each show critizising stuff the left had done or said #and finally included a debate segment in the show in which he invited liked-minded people to discuss politics #this has directly affected his audience. my dad is a fan of el hormoguero and i've seen him turn more right wing every year #so. last summer RTVE (national broadcast company) announced they were gonna do a late night show presented by david broncano #it's hard to describe everything here but basically broncano already had a late show called la resistencia in a streaming platform #it has always been very popular with young people and it is quite left wing #the new program made by RTVE was called la revuelta. it is exactly the same as la resistencia #before it started airing people were sceptic that broncano would be able to defeat motos' hegemony #BUT. ever since it started aiting in september it has consistently been getting more audience than el hormiguero #who would've known people were tired of the redhead bastard #anyways. apart from this. different celebrities on ppdcasts have been saying that in order to promote their product they are forced to go #to el hormiguero even of they didn't want to #there's also rumours of pablo motos blackmailing people (mostly comedians) who make fun of him #and now to what happened last night. i don't watch tv so i just saw it on twitter #broncano opened the show saying that they were sorty but they had no guest tonight #they had this one person but 30 minutes before shooting the people from el hormiguero had called him #he was originally going to go both to la revuelta and el hormiguero #but the guys from el hormiguero called him to tell him that if he went to la revuelta he couldn't go to el hormiguero #el hormiguero is bigger than la revuelta so. he had to cancel #broncano went on to say this had happened before and that's why he was talking about it

Birthday card that I drew for someone. .. kittys...#3. 2023's annual haul of tiny white pumpkins.. i get at least one white pumpkin every year around fall when they have pumpkins in stores #because I just love the color and texture ... bright white and smooth and cold and round.. kind of like a volleyball or something #4. A brief adventure into watching big brother (only earlier seasons of course as I hate all reality shows post like 2013 or something when #they became overly focused on social media and overproduced memeable phrases more.. like even though ALL reality shows have always #been extremely fake and annoying and mindless it's like..... newer stuff seems A Different Kind Of Fake or something) since whenever #I'm sick sometimes I find weird mindless things like that to watch (that one time I had bronchitis I watched all of Flavor of Love in my #half awake illness stupor and now everytime I heat up canned minestrone soup (mostly all I ate that week) I think of flavor flav since #thats just a weird brain connection I have now lol) ANYWAY.. I was sick and watched like 2 seasons of this and then thought it was too #uninteresting and obnoxious to continue (more like 1 and a half since I skipped the rest of one once only boring people were left) BUT this #one guy had a very mischevious looking face and he also said a few things (like the above captioned speech) that sounded like dialogue #some fantasy character would say.. so I took a screencap of him and edited him into a mischevious wizard i guess.?? idk I was sick lol #~your little friend has a poisoned tongue~ is just a very unexpectedly serious sounding wording for some random normal #frat dude looking guy to say while casually chatting on a reality tv show in like 2008 or whenever that was filmed lol #5. FLUFFY CLOVERS!! I'd never seen them be furry and soft before?? inchresting..#6. Noodle sitting in bed with the cat figurines looming above him... the council of kittys...#7. McDonald's full breakfast platter + asparagus + strawberries & cream (also of course this is old and I am now boycotting mcdonalds etc)#i try to group the images somewhat consistently like.. winter stuff with winter stuff or summer stuff with summer stuff #but I have so many random pictrues floating around on my computer that I never post that sometimes some are not organized or just #thrown into a set because there's nowhere else for them.
