how do you avoid getting caught even though you have a BMI of 14?
so many factors um i havent like gotten caught exactly but my parents are really suspicious and have threatened me w like hospitalization and shit so i dont think you can hide such a low bmi for a long time but you can still delay people finding out ykwim
almond parents didnt gaf
i have almond parents asfff like my dads always working out and talking ab how nasty processed food is while my moms like always body checking and limiting her sugar so when i started losing weight at my sw (132) they were chill which is why at first i didnt really worry ab hiding my ed to them it just seemed like i was dieting
hiding how i looked
eventually i had to hide it more bcs i was more underweight so i wore baggy clothes and tried to keep people from touching me as much as possible bcs of how like boney i was and shit i also try not to bodycheck around them bcs i subconsciously wrap my hand around my arm and stuff dont do that if its smth you do a lot
hiding how much i ate
if theres people you have to eat around (like family) try to only eat when theyre around i use anytime my parents arent around as like an excuse to fast which means i dont eat when im home alone and i rarely eat at school uh i also keep ziploc bags in my room so if dinners too high cal or if im fasting and cant eat then i take it to my room and put it in a ziploc bag until i can throw it away lowk sometimes i feel bad ab wasting food so i pack it as lunch and give it to like friends at school instead and if you wanna do that then keep tupperware in your room not ziploc bags ykwim also if i had to eat in front of them like at dinner or smth then i keep napkins in my lap or ziplocs in my pocket and put the food in there when people arent paying attention
hiding how much i weighed
my parents eventually found out ab my wl and started weighing me and i would hide my weight by wearing heavy sweaters and layers of clothes also drink tonsss of water and stuff your pockets w heavy things like a phone or coins anything like that id do all of these and it added like 10lbs to my actual weight

132?
"Steve?" Tony croaked, and then, louder, more distressed, "Steve?!"
Steve fought the urge to hold him tighter. His hands were numb, and the numbness was starting to spread up his arms, too cold even for gooseflesh to rise along his skin. He couldn't risk hurting Tony when he was already injured. "Tony."
"Where are we? What happened? Why are--it's so cold," Tony asked in a rush. He squirmed in Steve's hold. "Did we... did we have a mission?"
"I thought I lost you," Steve whispered into the back of his neck. "I still might. We're snowed into a cave. I didn't get a chance to send an emergency signal."
"Oh," Tony murmured, squirming slowing to a stop.
"That missile hit you, and you fell like a stone. I thought you'd died. But I was already so cold that I couldn't tell when I finally got to the armor. I'm so glad you're awake."
"...So..." Tony began slowly. "You didn't even know if you were holding a corpse?"
Steve flinched, burying his face in Tony's back with a shuddering sigh. No. He didn't. The snow was already coming down heavily, visibility was down, he'd lost feeling in his hands trying to tear the icing armor off of Tony, and he'd worried that the warmth of Tony's body against his numb fingers had been because he was so cold. Tony had gotten colder. He'd thought maybe he hadn't had a heart beat left to heat him, even as he'd hoped it was just a normal reaction to the cold.
He would have held Tony until he was torn from his hands, though. Maybe even longer, if he still had strength.
"Okay," Tony said, voice soothing, when Steve couldn't bring himself to answer verbally. "Okay. I still have my watch gauntlet. I can send a beacon that way. We're gonna be okay, Steve." He shifted in Steve's arms. "Is this--is this your top? Did you put it on me to keep me warm? Steve. You'll freeze."
"I survived it once before," Steve answered mulishly, but only realized just how terrible it sounded when Tony couldn't help an overwhelmed sob in response. The knowledge that Steve would strip off a desperately needed layer to put on someone he thought was dead, just in case, and end up freezing to death himself... it was probably shocking. Heartbreaking, maybe, if he allowed himself to think about it too much.
He didn't tell Tony that he would do it again in a heartbeat. That seemed like too much when he was cold and injured.

Part VI: The 1702 Summer Set(N⁰ 1379) :
Tradition required the bedchamber decor to be changed twice a year, alternating between a winter set and a summer one. Although set 1881 is not explicitly referred to as the winter set in the Garde-Meuble until 1740 [125], André Félibien informs us that the practice of using red velvet for winter in the King’s bedchamber predated 1701 [126]. If set 1881 was already used for winter by 1701, then which set was used as a summer replacement in 1702? The answer can be found in the 1708 inventory [127], where a set of silver-background brocade is listed under number 1379. Set 1379 was initially delivered in May 1689 as an augmentation of set 867, delivered nine years earlier for the bath apartments [128].
6.1 The Tapestry Itself
Described in 1680 as alternating narrow pieces of two different brocades—one “silver background with figures of a shepherd and shepherdess” and the other “gold and silver with rinceau, outlined at the edge with ponceau” [129]—the 1689 Garde-Meuble entry, while consistent in describing the shepherd silver brocade, specifies that the other had a green background but omits the rinceau ornaments. The most complete description appears in the 1708 inventory: “Rich furniture of two brocades, one with silver background with figures of shepherd and shepherdess in gold and silver, and the other with green background chiseled with gold and with flowers of silver and gold” [130].
The 1689 delivery was intended to fill an alcove with eight pieces of silver shepherd brocade and seven pieces of the green brocade [131]; this layout remained the same in the 1701 bedchamber [132].
6.2 The Bed
The main element of set 1379 was its state bed, impressive in its dimensions. Its components were as follows:
No Headboard: None of the descriptions indicate the presence of a headboard.
The Headcloth: Described in 1689 as being like the curtains, “of ponceau brocade” [133]. As seen in Part 6.1, no ponceau brocade is mentioned in the set; instead, the color ponceau only appears as a border for the green-background brocade. This discrepancy is later clarified in 1708 when the curtains and headcloth are accurately described as “green background brocade with flowers of gold and silver outlined at the edge with ponceau” [134].
The Valences: Unlike previous descriptions, a more precise one does not come from the 1708 inventory, where they are mentioned along with the cantonières, bonne grace, and bases as simply being of “shepherd brocade” [135], but from the May 1689 Garde-Meuble entry, which states: “Three outer valences, with additional buttonholes, shells, tassels, and other embroidery taken from the campane left from the frieze of the tapestry; four inner valences. The seven valences [three outer + four inner] are entirely of the shepherd brocade, garnished at the bottom by large campane embroidery and at the top and sides by smaller campanes, with ponceau gros de tours lining” [136].
The Curtains: The fabric for the curtains matched the set: some were of shepherd brocade, while others were of the green brocade. The 1689 description specifies that the two bonne graces, two cantonières, and three bases were of the shepherd brocade, while the four outer-layer curtains were of the “ponceau brocade” [137]. As with the headcloth, the term "ponceau brocade" actually refers to the “green background brocade with flowers of gold and silver outlined at the edge with ponceau,” as inferred from the 1708 inventory [138].
The Quilt: Described in both 1689 and 1708 as being of “ponceau brocade” [139], the same caution regarding interpretation should be applied as above.
The Case Curtain: Made of 24 pieces of green taffeta sewn together, with large and medium gold and silver fringes at the bottom and sides [140].
The Columns: The two front columns were covered in sheaths: one in a brocade featuring Solomonic columns embroidered in gold and silver on a crimson satin background, and the other in a brocade with silver stripes and satin stripes adorned with gold and silver floral embroidery [141].
The Vases/Finials: Four in total (one at each corner), filled with feathers. No further information about the materials used is provided.
6.3 The Armchairs and Stools
The original 1680 description briefly mentions the presence of two armchairs [142].
In 1689, the armchairs and stools received new frames, which were “gilded and silver-plated.” The 12 stools from 1680 were replaced with eight folding stools at that time [143].
The armchairs were entirely covered with shepherd brocade on the backrest, seat, and armrests, with silver and gold braid and campane ornaments. The folding stools, on the other hand, had cushions made from a square of shepherd brocade surrounded by “ponceau brocade.” This term appears in both the 1689 Garde-Meuble entry [144] and the 1708 inventory [145]. We learn from the 1689 entry that there was not enough campane to decorate all eight folding stools; there was barely enough for six, and the remaining two had to rely on gold fringes instead [146]. This issue seems never to have been addressed, as the 1708 description notes this disparity as well [147].
These stools and armchairs were later encountered long after being removed from the bedchamber and returned to the Garde-Meuble, specifically in the 1775 general inventory of the Garde-Meuble, where they appear under number 106 among the brocade furnishings [148]. In this final description, we learn that, just as in 1708, the disparity in campane ornaments remained unaddressed and that the “ponceau brocade” mentioned in the 1689 and 1708 descriptions surrounding the shepherd brocade was, as expected, actually “of chiseled green background brocade, with silver and gold flowers” [149].
An additional armchair belonging to set 1870 is also listed in the 1708 inventory.
6.4 The Fire Screen
The fire screen was a new addition for the 1701 central bedchamber, as it was not part of the original delivery of set 1379 from May 1689. The 1708 inventory offers a lengthy description worth quoting in full:
“Fire screen with slide [écran à coulisse], covered on each side with a square of silver background brocade with vine, from which a grape hangs, with a shepherdess at the center enclosed by strips of green background brocade chiseled with gold, with gold and silver floral ornaments outlined at the edge with ponceau, garnished by a thin gold braid hiding the seam, with sculpted and gilded wood” [150].
6.6 The Table and Tablecloth
In 1689, at the initial delivery of the set, there were three different carpets (tapis), one of which was referred to as a table carpet (tapis de table) [151]. Although no table was provided with the initial delivery, the 1708 inventory mentions a fir wood table [152] with no inventory number listed directly after two of the aforementioned rugs, indicating that these other rugs were also likely table rugs, as was the first.
The first proper tablecloth was “made of the two brocades, garnished with fringes and gold and silver braids, lined with green taffeta” [153].
The second rug was made of green leather, with green taffeta lining and gold fringes.
The third rug, made of green taffeta with gold and silver fringes, is referred to in 1708 as the slipcover for the first.
6.7 The Portieres
The description of the four portieres is consistent between the 1689 Garde-Meuble entry and the 1708 description, comprising a total of five pieces of brocade sewn together: three of shepherd brocade and two of the green brocade, with campane ornaments at the bottom of two and fringes for the other two.

[126] “The King’s bed is covered in red velvet in winter,” can be read in Félibien des Avaux, Description sommaire de Versailles ancienne et nouvelle, 1703 edition, p. 60. Despite the date of the edition, the rooms are described in their pre-1701 layout.

Excerpt from this story from Mother Jones:
Oil and chemical companies who created a high-profile alliance to end plastic pollution have produced 1,000 times more new plastic in five years than the waste they diverted from the environment, according to new data obtained by Greenpeace.
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) was set up in 2019 by a group of companies which include ExxonMobil, Dow, Shell, TotalEnergies, and ChevronPhillips, some of the world’s biggest producers of plastic. They promised to divert 15 million metric tons of plastic waste from the environment in five years to the end of 2023, by improving collection and recycling, and creating a circular economy.
Documents from a PR company that were obtained by Greenpeace’s Unearthed team and shared with the Guardian, suggest a key aim of the AEPW was to “change the conversation” away from “simplistic bans of plastic” that were being proposed in 2019 amid an outcry over the scale of plastic pollution leaching into rivers and harming public health.

Early last year the alliance target of clearing 15 million metric tons of waste plastic was quietly scrapped as “just too ambitious”.
The new analysis by energy consultants Wood Mackenzie looked at the plastics output of the five alliance companies; chemical company Dow, which holds the AEPW’s chairmanship; the oil companies ExxonMobil, Shell, and TotalEnergies; and ChevronPhillips, a joint venture of the US oil giants Chevron and Phillips 66.
The data reveals the five companies alone produced 132 million metric tons of two types of plastic, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), in five years—more than 1,000 times the weight of the waste plastic the alliance has removed from the environment in the same period. The waste plastic was diverted mostly by mechanical or chemical recycling, the use of landfill, or waste to fuel, AEPW documents state.
The amount of plastic produced is likely to be an underestimate as it only covers two of the most widely used polymers: polyethylene, which is used for plastic bottles and bags; and polypropylene, used for food packaging. It does not include other major plastics such as polystyrene.
The new data was revealed as delegates prepared to meet in Busan, South Korea, to hammer out the world’s first treaty to cut plastic pollution. The treaty has a mandate to agree on a legally binding global agreement to tackle plastic pollution across the entire plastics life cycle.
But the talks, which have been subject to heavy lobbying by the alliance and fossil fuel companies, are on a knife-edge in a row over whether caps to global plastic production will be included in the final treaty.
Will McCallum, a co-executive director at Greenpeace UK, said the revelations had stripped off the thin layer of greenwash hiding the growing mountain of plastic waste oil companies were producing.
“The recycling schemes they’re promoting can barely make a dent in all the plastic these companies are pumping out,” he said. “They’re letting the running tap flood the house while trying to scoop up the water with a teaspoon. The only solution is to cut the amount of plastic produced in the first place.”

One month apart, first trimester, 12:12,San Diego CA.
They were getting bigger.
It’s obvious when she turns her body and when she looks at her reflection, she was getting more…oval. Oval? Would that be the right shape? She gives herself another look, running her hands through her hair before she turns her body partially around, smiling at how the dress looked on her body.
Marcus is a magic man, he’s the Wizard of Oz of fashion because this is just so beautiful. This dress is crafted from an almost ethereal, lightweight fabric that gracefully drapes and flows with every movement. It is a seamless blend of enchantment and comfort, which is exactly what she adores.
The dress has an off-the-shoulder neckline that delicately frames her collarbones and shoulders and the bodice is designed to offer gentle support to the growing belly, and that she was pretty sure was somehow added before he handed the dress over to her.
Again, wizard of OZ.
The flowing skirt starts from just below the bust, allowing ample room for the baby bump. It cascades down in layers of soft, translucent lilac colored fabric, creating a mesmerizing and dreamy effect as it catches the light . The length of the skirt is more of a tea-length which is really comfortable, and it’s not too tight.
And it had a stretchy, adjustable waistline, “God,I love Marcus so much.” she says, still admiring herself in the mirror and cupping the bottom of her rounded stomach with both hands, “I look like those…renaissance paintings. Oh it’s so lovely!” she stops looking to herself when her phone pings with the alarm. She quickly grabs it to check the time, “Oh boy. Time to go,Nikki.” her daughter was peacefully sitting on the bed, surrounded by her toys and only looking up when her mother refers to her.
“Aa?”
“Yes, we need to go to auntie Evelyn’s party!” she coos, picking her up, “Auntie Shells is picking us up-even though I could easily drive us there she just doesn’t want me to get hurt.” she doesn’t sound that happy but she does shake her head while slapping on a smile, “Anyway, let’s go. You look so cute!”
It was just a miniature version of her dress only it had princess sleeves that made Nicole look like a little pixie. The flower headband fell a bit forward so Beatrice quickly adjusted it backwards so it wouldn’t land on Nicole’s eyes but honestly her daughter was too busy playing with the flower appliques on her mother’s bust, “I know right? It’s pretty!”
“Peety!”
“Yes! Pretty!” she grins, kissing her cheek and grabbing both the gift and her bag before walking out of the bedroom. The dogs all looked up when they heard her footsteps, with Jolene standing up at the bottom of the stairs, “Jojo.” she begins, “I’m going to be out of the house for a few hours, I’ll probably bring something for you guys too- I know there’s going to be some doggy friendly treats for you.” Eleanor whines from the corner and Beatrice lowers her brows, “I know,I know, but Evelyn said some of her relatives will bring their dogs over and they can be…hard to befriend, if that wasn’t the case you’d all come with us too!”
“Baaaabes!”
“Oh God.”
“Babes!” followed by a series of honking, “Come out here!Come on!” more honking.
“I swear to God.” she whispers to herself, bringing Nicole up to her chest, “One of these days she’s going to get arrested while here- bye guys. Say bye,Nikki.” Nicole already knew how to wave, so she did just that as they walked to the front door, saying ‘bye bye!’ to the dogs until they were no longer in her view.
Shells was leaning against the front of her Buick with her arms crossed. She was wearing a dress, but it was green, tight at the waist with a halter top bust, “Ohhh!” she smiles as Beatrice locks the front door, “You two look adorable!’
Beatrice returns the smile, approaching Shells once everything is locked tight. She adjusts Nicole in her arms, making sure her daughter is comfortable and secure. "Thank you, Shells! And you look stunning as always," Beatrice says, genuinely admiring her friend's outfit.
Shells uncrosses her arms and opens them for a hug. Beatrice leans in, careful not to squish Nicole between them, and they embrace for a moment. "Are you ready for the party?" Shells asks, pulling away from the hug but keeping her hands on Beatrice's shoulders.
"Absolutely! I can't wait to celebrate with Evelyn and everyone," Beatrice replies with enthusiasm. "Is she excited?”
Shells gives her a half shrug, “She’s kinda annoyed she had to change the date because of the people. But you know, she’s managing how she can,I don’t think she murdered anyone with her eyes yet.”
“It’s still early.”
Shells nods while laughing, opening the back door for Beatrice, “Go on ahead.” she says while gesturing towards Nicole’s seat in there. Beatrice wastes no time in latching Nicole comfortably tight, then stretching her arms above her head once she’s back to her standing position, ‘Oh my God, now I can see it?”
Beatrice blinks, holding both hands on top of her head before turning her eyes to Shells, “Hm?”
“The twins!” she points to her friend’s stomach, “Look at that! Now it’s obvious they are there, god damn,Bea, they’ll be so big once they pop out.”
Beatrice follows Shells' gesture and looks down at her own rounded belly, laughing softly. She gently places a hand on her stomach, feeling the weight and presence of her unborn twins.
"You're right, Shells. They are getting bigger," Beatrice says, her voice filled with awe and wonder. "I can't believe how much they've grown. It's both exciting and a little overwhelming."
Shells leans against the car, a soft smile playing on her lips. "I mean, are they kicking yet?"
“Not yet, but they will soon.”
“Just wait until Rooster sees you like that. He’ll freak out.” she says much to her friend’s confusion, “Girl,we are going to take some pictures! You look too pretty to not share with others!”
Beatrice blushes at the compliment and rolled her eyes, but she is very happy. "Thank you, Shells. Your support means the world to me."
“That’s why I’m here, babes. Now, get in the car or else Evelyn will have a freakout. She needs our support more than you know.”
“Both of her parents are there?”
“Just her mom, her father will be there later…cause work.” Shells mutters,”And her mother is hounding her a lot, sooo…”
Beatrice nods understandingly, realizing the importance of their presence at the party for Evelyn. She takes a deep breath, gathering her composure, and climbs into the car. Once seated, she fastens her seatbelt and adjusts herself to find a comfortable position, mindful of her growing belly “Ow.”
Shells snaps her head in Beatrice’s direction so fast she was sure something cracked, “What? What happened? Is Rooster going to kill me?”
Beatrice didn’t look amused, “No,” she sighs, “Just pinched the side of my leg with the seatbelt. Nothing to worry.”
“Ah, well, alright.” Shells starts the car and begins driving towards Evelyn's parents house. When asked the reason for doing that there and not at her penthouse the answer was ‘I am already doing more than enough, plus my parents have a huge backyard and I don’t trust my uncle Tom when he’s drunk.’. Beatrice steals a glance at Nicole, who is quietly observing the passing scenery through the window, seemingly lost in her own little world, babbling quietly.
Sometimes she could hear certain words, like ‘okay’ and ‘hello!’ coming out of her daughter’s mouth and it was so adorable. Better than music if she was honest.
She leans back in her seat, feeling the gentle sway of the car as it moves through the streets. They are getting to a residential area - after Shells stops and checks her gps at least twice- and they see it.
It’s an impressive house that looks like it was built in the 1980s. It was situated on a spacious lot, where they see a well-manicured front yard and a charming entryway adorned with mature trees and colorful landscaping. The exterior of the house showcases the distinct characteristics of the 1980s design, featuring a combination of stucco and brick siding, along with large windows that allow plenty of natural light to filter through.
And there were a lot of cars.
And Evelyn, right by the door.
She widens her eyes then relaxes, looking back over her shoulder then at the car as it rolls into a park, “Took you guys long enough,” she murmurs, stepping back when Beatrice opens the door. The two share a look before hugging, Evelyn squeezes her friend a little bit and Beatrice feels how tense she was.
“You okay?”
“I am now.” she replies quietly, ‘Jake’s family just got here.” she looks back to the front door, letting go of Bea so she could pick Nicole up and Shells was up to her friend instead, hugging Evelyn just as tightly.
“So,” Shells smiles once she leans back, “What are we expecting?”
“My family being a nightmare.” Evelyn says softly, “They are behaving, which is good but…no promises. My aunts and cousins might hound you,Bea,” the brunette looks up in surprise once Nicole is in her arms, “Since, well,” she waves her hand from Nicole to the growing bump, with a grimace, “Y’know?”
“Oh.” Bea laughs nervously, bouncing Nikki in her arms, “It’s okay, it’ll be fine.I can handle it. They can’t be worse than some of my relatives.”
Evelyn, while clearly not comforted by that sentence, just gave her a little smile, turning on her heel to go back inside, “Come on in.”
Upon entering, they step into a grand foyer with soaring ceilings, showcasing a dramatic staircase that adds a touch of elegance to the space. Both women stare, wide eyed and slack jawed at the view. The layout of the house is spacious, with multiple levels that offer versatility and room for various activities, including a pool table in the corner of one of the rooms.
The living room is adorned with large windows, allowing for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while the adjacent dining area provides an inviting space for formal meals or casual get-togethers. And that’s where most of the gifts were, and there were a lot of gifts. So many that neither of the girls knew how to place their own bags there, “Here.” Evelyn just pushed a large amount to the side of the table - and they didn’t fall! - “Sorry about that, there was a lot of stuff and…well, some of the gifts ended up inside.”
Some??
Evelyn, noticing their shocked stare, just sighed, “Not my fault,my parents just told everyone to…uh, go crazy.”
Beatrice and Shells exchange amused glances, with the brunette especially understanding the chaotic nature of family gatherings and the tendency for gift-giving to go overboard. They follow Evelyn into the kitchen, carefully maneuvering more gifts before reaching the backyard where everyone was.
Beatrice can't help but admire the decorations and attention to detail once they get outside, Nicole even reaching out to tug some of the ribbons that hang low enough for her little hand to grab. The area is tastefully adorned with festive colors and elegant centerpieces, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. From the corner they could see Evelyn’s mother talking to people
"I must say, Evelyn, your parents really went all out for this party," Beatrice comments, a hint of awe in her voice.
Evelyn chuckles, almost confusedly. "You have no idea.” she exhales “They love hosting and showing off their home. I tried to rein them in, but they insisted on going big."
“They do?”
“I know,Shells.” Evelyn replies, sounding so tired, “I can’t believe it either since they are both…so…social.” and her eyebrow flicks with annoyance, “Anyway, let me introduce you guys to everyone.”

One month apart, first trimester,21:12, unspecified location.
‘Is that your third or second?”
Rooster looks up from his files to see Hangman at the door, holding his own cup of coffee. Rooster flicks his eyes to his mug, checking the contents before pursing his lips, “Fourth, actually.”
“Ah,well, I was close, wasn’t I?” the blonde pilot looks back, where Coyote’s form is approaching, “You called us?”
“I did.” Rooster groans, rubbing his eyes, “Sit down.” and his arms went up to his head, one hand holding his wrist and his vision turned to the several maps and notes he made during the past…three hours, “Dude,my back.” he begins, “It’s like, tiny little mice are stabbing every nerve I have with tiny swords.”
Coyote makes a face, ‘Weird sentence, but okay.”Hangman and Coyote exchange amused glances before taking a seat across from Rooster. Hangman leans back in his chair, sipping his coffee, while Coyote leans forward, resting his elbows on the table.
"Well, Rooster, you look like you've been deep in thought," Coyote says, eyeing the maps and notes scattered all over. "What's on your mind?"
Rooster sighs, massaging his temples. "Well, remember how we thought we knew what we were expecting? When we figured out the old factory was being used as a stronghold?"
Hangman nods, his expression serious. "Yeah, I remember. What about it?"
Rooster taps a specific area on one of the maps. "Intelligence reports suggest that the enemy has significantly reinforced their defenses in that area. They've brought in heavy artillery and increased their troop presence. It's going to be a lot tougher than we initially anticipated."
Coyote's brow furrows as he studies the map. "Damn, that complicates things. We can't afford any surprises when we fly in."
"Exactly," Rooster replies, his tone filled with frustration. "And I don’t plan on losing anyone on this mission so, we need to come up with a solid plan to neutralize their defenses.." he mumbles, “You two are going to join me at the first surveillance round, we can’t get too close, they have heavy shit waiting for the first bird they see…and we are going to bring some of the recruits.”
Hangman makes a face then takes a thoughtful sip of his coffee before speaking up. "If it smells like shit it probably is, what exactly can we expect? Since what we knew went down the drain?"
Rooster leans back in his chair, a weary expression on his face and one of his hands against his mouth . "Well, based on the latest intel, we can expect fortified barricades, manned checkpoints, and increased patrols around the perimeter.” and he pulls every single file that contains such information “ The enemy has brought in additional firepower, including anti-aircraft weapons and armored vehicles. They're taking this shit seriously."
Coyote interjects, after a minimal amount of silence. "So, they're ready for us. It's not going to be a walk in the park, huh?"
Rooster nods grimly. "Never is. We need to be cautious and precise in our approach. Our primary objective is to gather as much information as possible without alerting them to our presence. So I suggest we divide our teams already. That way, we can cover more ground and gather information from multiple vantage points. It'll also make it harder for the enemy to detect us."
Hangman nods in agreement. "Good idea. We'll assign specific sectors to each team and maintain constant communication. We need to be aware of any changes in enemy movements or reinforcements." he purses his lips, “Which means more training.”
“Yep.”
“No wonder they said we’d be here for six months.” Coyote murmurs, leaning into his chair, “That is…intense.”
“Yeah.” Rooster laughs breathily, shaking his head and rubbing his eyelids, inhaling against his palms, “But that was it for right now, next week we’ll…have a lot to do.”
Hangman glances at his watch and raises an eyebrow. "Next week? You mean we're not going in immediately?"
Rooster lets out a tired sigh, of course he’d say that. "No, we need some time to analyze the new information, and fine-tune our plan. We can't rush into this blindly. It's better to be prepared than to walk into a trap." he groans, “Not to mention the kids need to be aware of this now.”
Coyote leans forward, his curiosity piqued, ignoring Hangman’s sour expression. "So what's the plan? How are we going to gather information without alerting the enemy?"
Rooster leans forward, hovering his hand above the papers, his eyes scanning the maps once again. "We'll have four teams. I want you two to lead one team to conduct aerial reconnaissance. We'll gather as much visual intel as possible, identifying enemy positions, defenses, and any potential weak points." he begins, “We can’t get too close, so it’ll be hard but we can do it.”
Hangman nods, his expression determined. "Understood. I'll coordinate with the kids pilots and make sure we have everything."
“Bob will help you too.”
“Bob?”
Rooster then turns his attention to the map, ignoring Hangman’s displeased shout. "And then I go in.” Silence takes over, both men look at him in surprise and he raises his brow, “I’m not going to stay here, twiddling my thumbs while you go all out. Mav will handle everything while I’m gone.” he inhales shakily, the claw of fear squeezing his stomach, “Once we get everything, once we are aware of it…I’ll go in and we’ll lead the aerial assault.”
Hangman and Coyote exchange glances, their surprise evident. Hangman is the first to respond, but his words break the obvious nervous atmosphere. "Of course you will, why am I surprised."
Rooster looks up from the map, flicking his brow with nothing but amusement shining in his eyes. "You can stay here instead, you know, staring at the snow. If that’s what you want.” Hangman rolled his eyes, throwing his hands up in defense before looking away, “I’ll meet with the others in a few, then we’ll debrief to the new recruits and separate the teams. You guys know they’ll be the new co-pilots,right?”
“Sure,” Coyote nods, “We’re playing babysitter.”
“They aren’t that bad.” Rooster chuckles as he organizes everything on the table, “They have talent, they are just…you know, like Hangman.” his friend snaps his gaze at him, “You know, annoying.”
“Hey.”
“And stubborn.” Coyote adds.
“Hey!”
“And don’t forget: full of himself.”
“Hey!I’m right here!”
Rooster, while nervous by the sudden change of events, just laughs. He’s at least glad they could share some humor in such somber circumstances…and he couldn’t help but get nervous. He led missions before, he sure did, but this one felt different because the unknowns were past the common ground.
He didn’t like to be in the dark. He didn’t like to not know what was going on…but he had to make sure everyone got back home intact…him included. He inhales shakily one last time, “Dismissed.” he mutters, “...thanks guys.” the break of professionalism wasn’t necessary but in his opinion was needed.
Sure,he was leading the mission, but they were his friends. He needed that familiarity. “Ah,Hangman,” the blonde pilot stops and stares back at him, “You should check your phone.”
“My phone-” his blue eyes widened, “Oh my God. Oh my God.” and he runs off, leaving Rooster and Coyote staring at his retreating back, the taller officer just chuckles from his desk, walking around it to turn off the lights and close the door behind him.
Beatrice talked to him about the party, it was still going back in California since it was early so Rooster could just imagine what else was planned for that day…and she looked beautiful. She always does…fuck he missed them so much, he just wanted this mission to go right.
He needed this to go right.
No mistakes.
No doubts.

♛ → THE STORMLANDS NEW VALYRIA presents ULISES LAZARUS TARTH, the RULING LORD OF TARTH (SAPPHIRE ISLE). when the dragons danced in the sky they thought the BLACKS would still fly, but in the blink of an eye, they would all die. the THIRTY year old MALE who was INQUISITIVE & PRACTICAL before they saw the first of the flames, is now INSENSITIVE & IMPULSIVE after seeing the last. he’s often associated with the sapphire blue of a united family, an intense mind carried away by his latest interest, and harsh sunburns forever marked across his body. ( Enzo Vogrincic )
GENERAL INFORMATION
NAME: Ulises Lazarus Tarth AGE: Thirty (Born December 9th, 114 AC) STATUS: Ruling Lord OCCUPATION: Ruling Lord of Tarth, the Sapphire Isle MARITAL STATUS: Unmarried CHARACTER ALIGNMENT: Pending MBTI: ISTP (introversion, sensing, thinking, perception) RELIGION: Faith of the Seven
RECENT HOUSE HISTORY:
The ruling lord of Tarth at the time of the Great Council of Harrenhal supported Princess Rhaenys’ claim over anyone else’s.
House Tarth has declared Myr an enemy following a Myrish invasion of the Sapphire Isle in 92 AC. The attack lasted nearly 2 months. Ultimately, House Tarth managed to push them out and executed the leader of the attack and his close followers, making an example of them by displaying their headless corpses, hands tied together holding their own decapitated heads (this sort of display has become a sort of modus operandi for House Tarth when dealing with enemies).
Bryndenmere Tarth, Ulises' late father, was a staunch supporter of the Blacks during the Dance of the Dragons.
House Tarth is on particular good terms with Houses Velaryon and Bean due to past alliances against the Archon of Tyrosh and the Sealord of Braavos back in 133 AC.
BIOGRAPHY:
Ulises Lazarus Tarth was the firstborn son of Lord Bryndenmere and his wife, Lady Catalina, who had delivered a daughter a few years prior. Due to the complicated nature of Ulises’ birth, it was thought his mother would die on the childbed, but fortunately, she recuperated in time and went on to give her husband 5 more children until her passing in 125 AC due to a rare fever.
Ulises was born a healthy boy, but the castle Maester worried, perhaps more prone to superstition than fact, predicting there would always be hardship in the boy’s life that he would barely overcome each time, an only at a great cost. His prediction came because of unusual astronomy signs and the chaotic weather at the time of his birth: an eclipse met with a storm that was carried by the eastern winds and seas.
He grew up a clever and curious boy, paying attention to his classes, training with the sword and shorter blades, and developing a mind that ran a mile a minute with the wish to know more. He didn't wish to learn just for knowledge’s sake, but to test that knowledge and put it to the test in practical ways. This trait of his ended up saving his life later on.
In 132 AC during the Battle of the Gullet, Ulises sailed alongside the Velaryon fleet. In the chaos of the battle, Lord Bryndenmere Tarth perished and Ulises nearly drowned, ending up drifting on the shipwrecked pieces of wood for 39 days. He survived by filtering salt out of ocean water through a method learned from the Maester at home, using sunlight and cloth layers of his shirt. He managed to feed himself on the occasional fish he could catch with a makeshift tool he built with what he had at hand.
Ulises was declared dead and his younger brother succeeded their late father as the new Ruling Lord of Tarth in this time. Ulises managed to return home when a trading ship that had departed from Andalos saw him floating in the middle of the ocean. Upon his return, the title his younger brother had just received was stripped from him and Ulises was named the rightful ruling lord.
He has never talked much to his siblings about what he went through during his time lost at sea, but they all claim Ulises returned a changed man in some way. A man who is more stern, more decisive, perhaps even more cruel and insensitive.
Ulises supported Lord Pearse Caron in his attempt at a revolution when the realm of the Stormlands was annexed to the Crownlands during Queen Daenerys’ rule. Ultimately his support in this was withdrawn when it became clear that Caron was walking into his death.
At present, Ulises is in no way glad that the realm he grew up in is ruled by a Green Targaryen, but out of a protective nature for his family, he’s playing his part and keeping a somewhat low profile. He needs to preserve House Tarth, and fully understand what this kingdom is going to shape up to be before he acts in a manner that may sink his house. Tarths descend from kings, after all, so it’s only right to wait and find the right way in which his family can have a steady and worthy position in this new realm.
CONNECTIONS:
Close allies: House Estermont, House Velaryon, House Dondarrion, House Wylde and House Bean.
Friends: Morgan Wylde, Mariela Egen née Donniger, Daeron Dondarrion, Lucerys Estermont and Nadia Estermont.

So there's this cool AU called @invertedfate by @megaderping, it's honestly amazing and you should check it out if you haven't already.
Apologies, as the grabbed individuals might be a bit blurred. Unfortunately I misclicked and merged an all black layer down onto the layer they were on, obscuring them, by the time I noticed it was so late I crashed the app hitting undo too rapidly, eventually I was able to screenshot the correct image from a playback of my work but it was lower quality.
Anyway, without further ado, here's Flowey enjoying his victory.
The most recent update was outstanding and now I've finally got this drawn I plan to rewatch it since my reference screenshots just don't do it justice.

This whole season the Devil's been adorable but him having a tap dance with Chalice and just having fun with it and then Henchman applauding.
And just in general Henchman's enthusiasm for everything Devil does for fun is just so sweet.
We all need a Henchman.
(Why is the single most relateable character in any work of fiction The Devil?)

Greetings everyone! It's Let Papyrus Say Fuck day once again, let us celebrate!
And of course, since it's also Pride month, we can count on Papyrus to support LGBTQ+ folks.
Papyrus is a cool dude and you can be too, if we get the shirt un-discontinued. See @insanelyadd's post for how.

So there's this cool AU called @shifter-au about Papyrus being a shapeshifter that feeds on love and is trying to keep his identity a secret (Flowey knows though).
I had this idea floating around my head for a while and I was gonna pitch it to @leshyleaf before remembering I can actually draw it myself now.
Go check out Leshy's art, they have this sweet cartoony style that looks great in their comic.

May 6, 2024. Venice
Up before 5am to finish packing and get up on deck to watch the sun rise as we motored through the main channel into Venice. A very moving experience!!
While large cruise ships need to dock outside the city, ships of our size can come into the lagoon area (Canale Della Guidecca). Amazing way to see Venice for the first time, all the side channel and right past St Marks Square. There were many people on deck, and it was a reverent mood with no one speaking. We watched until we arrived at our port, then headed to breakfast. Rather than a small pilot boat, we seemed to be tethered to a large tug boat that guided us until we were docked.
We disembarked about 8:30am, so had some time to watch the luggage be unloaded and relax in the lounge for the last time (until next May!).
Our last excursion was “Venice Orientation and Lagoon Tour,” with transportation to the airport. We’re booked at the Marriott Courtyard near the airport with a flight home tomorrow. We reclaimed our luggage briefly, then put it on a cart (hopefully we’ll see it again after the tour!).
Our guide’s name was Antonella (Ella).
She told us that Venice is made up of 132 islands, linked by 189 bridges and 150 canals, most not very deep. Many churches - each island has at least one. Many were erected after the plague - nothing like a pandemic to bring people to religion!
Venice was started as a trading hub, but now tourism is the biggest industry.
It was more difficult to see the city from our tour boat, so we’re extra glad we got up early to see it from the ship! We were sitting below water level so our eyes were about water level, and it was amazing to see all the boat traffic in the lagoon - big boats, little boats, boats that were hauling work gear and supplies (that would be hauled by trucks on land), garbage boats, police boats, even an ambulance boat! The water was choppy from all the traffic. Made me wonder how many boating accidents they have?!
We made two stops on this excursion, the first was Murano Island, known of course for its gorgeous Murano glass! We were guided in to a studio to watch three guys, and master and two helpers. They were adding colored layers to a globe that was about 18” in diameter. We’d seen glass blowing before, but this was master crafting! Most shocking was the apparent lack of concert about safety, no gloves or goggles, one guy wearing crocs, a guy using his tshirt hem to clear the table of glass shards, smoking, etc!
After that, we were invited upstairs to see the work of many master artists. I wanted several pieces, but settled for a few small pieces at a shop over the canal.
Our second stop was Burano Island, known for its lace production. Jeff and I skipped the demonstration on that and found a cafe for a sandwich and gelato, perfectly placed to watch taxi boats, tour boats and hotel shuttle boats drop off their passengers! Burano was historically a fishing island, and Ella reported the fishermen would drink too much and then not be able to find their way home, so the houses are painted bright vibrant colors. With the gardens and bright houses, it’s a gorgeous little island.
Back on board our boat, I struggled with staying awake, but it’s wasn’t comfortable enough for napping either! We dropped most of our gang at the Hilton (cruise package hotel) and then I was glad to get back to the port. The remaining six of us claimed our suitcases (sigh of relief), and a van took us to the Marriott Courtyard near the Airport, and then dropped the others at the airport for afternoon flights.
We organized our bags for flying tomorrow, relaxed and are about to head out for food. Looking for some good pasta and wine tonight!
What an amazing trip this has been. Fantastic weather, gorgeous scenery, history, culture and food! We feel so lucky and blessed to have had an incredible adventure like this!

Movies I watched this Week #132 (Year 3/Week 28):
Another serendipitous discovery, The blue sky maiden by Japanese New Wave director Yasuzo Masumura. He is considered by some to be "the most important filmmaker in the history of postwar Japanese cinema", still I never heard of him before.
Yuko Ono, a lovely country girl, travels to Tokyo to find her mother, and is being reminded to always look for 'the bright blue sky’ above. An utterly modern and unorthodox adventure story, full of impromptu and unusual touches. An underrated gem. I am going to start exploring some of his 58 feature films! Recommended!
(Photo Above).
🍿
2 Iranian classics:
🍿 A moment of innocence, my first by celebrated director Mohsen Makhmalbaf. A textually complicated semi-autobiographical reenactment of an incident from his own life. As a teenager, he had stabbed a policeman at a protest rally and for that he was jailed for 5 years. Fragmented, multi-layered and enigmatic meta-film about making the movie he wanted to make. The trailer.
🍿 “Today I learned” about 'Persian Sylvia Plath', the influential and controversial poet Forugh Farrokhzad. She was a modernist feminist and iconoclast who broke barriers of sex and society and who died in 1967 at the age of 32.
She only directed one short film, The house is black, and in 1963 it paved the wave for the "Iranian New Wave". It's a harrowing, relentless documentary shot at the real-life Bababaghi leper colony, and it combines 'Ugliness' and 'Suffering' with 'Gratitude', like no other film I've ever seen. (Alain Resnais's Night and fog' notwithstanding). Powerful and very disturbing, you'll be better off for seeing it. 10/10.
During the 12 days of shooting, she became attached to a boy from the colony, and later adopted him.
A Paris Review exploration of Forough Farrokhzad.
🍿
La Collectionneuse, my 9th beautiful film by Éric Rohmer, the 3rd of his 'Six moral tales'.
On the one hand, there's the sensuous, lazy vacation at a rented summer villa near St Tropez, generously shot by Néstor Almendros in his first feature - there's nothing better on film than that. On the other hand, there are the two young, 'Hip' males who just can't get over an even younger free-spirit girl who hangs around the house, and who sleeps around without paying attention to what they, or anybody else, think. So they ruminate and philosophize and moralize and try to rationalize their piggish sexism and lust for her. They derogatorily nickname her 'The Collector' (of man) - What an outrage! 7/10.
🍿
2 by independent director Andrew Bujalski:
🍿 Computer Chess took me by complete surprise: It started as a grainy 1980 documentary about The American Computer Chess Convention, where two dozen nerdy enthusiasts gather to pit their programs against other computer chess programs and human players in a tournament for a grand prize of $7500. But something did not add up. There were odd moments and quirky idiosyncrasies creeping up. Cats meowing in the corridors, a human potential meet-up next door, middle age swingers... Only halfway though it dawned on me: This is not a found-footage documentary! It's an innovative weirdness, the best "Mumblecore" exercise I ever saw. The eccentric mannerism of the geeky dweebs and awkward geniuses was pitch-perfect. 8/10.
🍿 Support the Girls belongs to Regina Hall, who plays a general manager of a local Hooters-style restaurant bar. It's a realistic story of real people, low-income, hard-working, no special talents, with no glitz or special hooks. It was one of Obama's favorite movies of 2018.
🍿
'Computer Chess' overlaps with Mike Judge's hilarious HBO show Silicon Valley. Watching the first season again with zero lossless compression and still with a Weissman Score or 5.2. Pitch-perfect 6 morsels of 29 incredible minutes each. 9/10.
🍿
Adam's Rib, (Only my second by George Cukor, after 'Gaslight') and one of the 9 movies that fascinating barefoot superstar Katharine Hepburn made with her real-life lover Spencer Tracy. A sweet tale about a married couple, who are both lawyers, and have to face each other in court. Hepburn was one of the most independent celebrities of the old Hollywood, and here she plays the same fully actualized feminist: She drives their car, they cook together (she does the roast, he tosses the salad), and he cries when she rejects him. She also wins the 'Battle of the sexes'. Hurray! 8/10.
🍿
The wave is an interesting German thriller that was based on Ron Jones' social movement 'The Third 'Wave'. Like the 1967 California school experiment, a German high-school teacher must teach his bored class about 'Autocracy' (even though he's an anarchist). He decides to demonstrate to the students how easy it is to be manipulated when you belong to a group. Indeed in the course of only one week, he's able to transform his unruly, individualistic and rebellious pupils into a conformist fascist group that will go to any length to protect their newly-found 'community'. Prescient and though-provoking.
🍿
First watch: Kind Hearts and Coronets, the transgressive black comedy about a cynical serial killer who is getting away with his crime. All of his 8 victims were played by Alec Guinness.
🍿
3 re-watches, 2 with Robert De Nero:
🍿 "... Got a smoke?... " John Carpenter’s exhilarating breakthrough low-low budget B-movie Assault on Precinct 13, made on a shoestring. A riff on Rio Bravo and the ultimate urban western.
Were there any other and/or better Directors-Composers (Chaplin probably, but not Clint Eastwood) than Carpenter? The menacing synthesizer score he wrote was the most distinct feature of this banger. And the deserted locations of Watts, California looked exactly the same three decades later in godforsaken shitholes like Colton and San Bernardino. 8/10.
🍿 “Now back to Gene Krupa’s syncopated style shortly…”
Taxi Driver, one of the greatest movies ever made, a seductive manifesto of 'God’s lonely man'. The very best movie of the week, again.
Bernard Herrmann's masterful last film score (completed hours before his death) prompted me 5 years ago to compose a thread on Metafilter about the best movie scores. It included such evergreens as Chinatown soundtrack, Miles Davis for Louis Malle's 1958 Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, Morricone's Cinema Paradiso, Trent Reznor for The Social Network, Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Hans Zimmer's You're so cool from True Romance, and so many others.
🍿 There are only 3 Tarantino movies I care for, 'True Romance' (his best IMO), 'Pulp Fiction' (A masterpiece!) and Jackie Brown. A terrific attraction-romance between two adult leads, and with De Nero cast against type as a clumsy, inarticulate loser. Like he resurrected Travolta's career with 'Pulp Fiction', here he gave both Pam Grier and Robert Forster a second Hollywood chance. Also 'Uncle Jack' from Breaking Bad'. 8/10.
It's only surprising he didn't give writer Elmore Leonard a cameo in it.
🍿
The Town, another South Boston gangster thriller (A-la 'The Departed' and 'Eddie Coyle', and 'Mystic River' and so many others) about a bank robber who falls in love with a bank teller after taking her hostage during a daring robbery. It's predictable, and you know exactly how it will end, just not sure about the twists along the way. But it's done nearly as well as Michael Mann's 'Heat', and Rebecca Hall is lovely in her role. 8/10.

2 musical shorts:
🍿 A short YouTube gem, Bach Adagio BWV 974, maybe Russian, about a garbageman who find a discarded piano. Unexplainable. 10/10.
🍿 Takrai (Repetition) is a mesmerizing experimental short about geometrical patterns of Islamic, Ottoman, Greek, and Byzantine architecture. It was made by Syrian-German filmmaker Waref Abu-Quba
🍿
“You can’t wake up if you don’t fall asleep…”
Asteroid city, the latest Wes Anderson world-building show-piece. Artistic, theatrical, quirky and super-stylized, it reminds me a bit of Roy Andersson's artificial universe (and in this particular movie, it's even closer to Tim Burton's 'Mars attacks'), but without the aching heart behind it. There were a few moments of genuine visual emotions (the green space ship with its long 'Salad Fingers' alien, the sudden Howdly-Dee happy dance, the prancing roadrunner over the end credits). 7/10.
🍿
"No story, and no plot!"
The Bell Boy, my first (?) by and with man-child Jerry Lewis. A series of unfunny gags, pointless pratfalls and him mugging to the camera. Absolutely not like Monsieur Hulot, or Chaplin's 'Tramp', even though it aspired to replicate them. 1/10.
🍿
2 by Australian Robert Luketic:
🍿 Titsiana Booberini was a quirky Australian short (12 min.) about a check-out supermarket girl who has a little mustache. It's kind of a comedy with some musical numbers thrown in. I didn't get it, but apparently its international success gave its director the opportunity to direct his first feature:
🍿 Legally blond, an empowering feminist chick flick, similar to 'Clueless', about a seemingly ditzy teen, who's hiding her smarts behind a pretty 'dumb blond' facade. Reese Witherspoon was great in it. 3/10.

A 2,200-year-old Silver Coin Hoard Found at Desert Cave in Israel
Hidden under a swatch of purple, coins found in a Dead Sea cave weren’t from the Bar Kochba period but from Hasmonean era centuries earlier.
Roughly 2,200 years ago, somebody hid a wooden box with 15 silver coins in a cave in the Judaea Desert. The box would lie moldering in the crack into which it had been shoved until earlier this year, when it was found by archaeologists with the Israel Antiquities Authority carrying out surveys.
The find was made in Muraba’at Cave, now part of the Nahal Darga Nature Reserve by the Dead Sea (some call it the Wadi Darageh). The cave had famously sheltered Jews fleeing the Romans at the end of the ill-fated Bar Kochba revolt that began in 132 C.E. But these newly unearthed coins are the first solid evidence of people using the cave to hide centuries earlier, at the end of the Hasmonean period, the Israel Antiquities Authority says.
This season’s excavations in the cave, in the framework of the Judean Desert Excavation and Survey Project, began last March. The cave is a big one, about 100 meters (nearly 330 feet) deep, and archaeology is a painstaking profession, so the team “had been digging for almost two months when we found the treasure in May,” says the IAA’s Eitan Klein.
The excavation process involves gingerly and meticulously removing layers while keeping a sharp eye out for finds, he explains – and one can’t think of the cave like a room, with smooth walls and corners. It’s a convoluted, craggy, jagged place and at some point, excavating a previously unexplored spot, as they removed dirt from a crack – there it was, he says.
A moment of purple
The container was made of wood turned on a lathe, and though rare – if only because most wooden boxes from that period would long have returned to dust – such items aren’t unknown, Klein says. “A box like this was found in Ein Gedi, for instance, but it wasn’t as beautifully finished. Here and there, they do show up. But because they’re organic, only ones left in the deserts have survived.”
Okay. Having extracted the ancient box from the dirt filling the crack, the archaeologists prised off its lid – and were greeted by the sight of more dirt, with some small pebbles. So far, not the stuff of thrillers.
But below the dirt was a piece of woolen cloth dyed purple. Was it – could it have been – dyed with the royal purple, the precious dye extracted from the shell of the unfortunate Murex snail? Samples of textiles dyed with real purple, which is associated with the 1 percenters of biblical times, have been found in Timna (the ancient copper mine in the Negev anecdotally associated with King Solomon), from a thousand years before this box entered the world.
However, it cannot be said that this textile in the lathe-carved wooden container was that same precious royal purple because it remains to be analyzed, Klein says.
Anyway, below it, nestled lovingly in a clump of sheep’s wool, were the 15 coins. Before analysis, the coins had to be cleaned: they corrode after 2,200 years in a box, Klein notes. The coins were analyzed by Klein together with numismatist Gabriela Bijovsky.
As said, Muraba’at was known to have sheltered Jews fleeing from the Romans when the Bar Kochba revolt failed in 136 C.E. But once the coins were restored to their shiny original condition, the team was in for a shock. “Often, ancient coins bear inscriptions and symbols that help date them,” Klein says. These did – and, lo, they predated Bar Kochba by centuries.
All were silver tetradrachma minted by Ptolemy VI, king of Egypt. Three had been manufactured in 176-175 B.C.E., and the latest one was dated to 171-170 B.C.E., which is associated with the onset of the Maccabean Revolt following anti-Jewish decrees issued by the Seleucid emperor Antiochus IV Epiphanes.
Egypt had ruled Judea for a time many centuries earlier, but certainly not when these coins were minted. When Ptolemy VI reigned over Egypt, the Seleucid kingdom, including Judea, was under the scepter of his uncle Antiochus IV Epiphanes (aka “the Wicked”).
The name “Shalmai” in Aramaic script was found secondarily incised on one of the coins, the IAA says.
And thus, we have actual evidence of rebels fleeing to the Negev as the struggle between the Hellenistic regime and the Hasmoneans wound down. No evidence of that whatsoever has been found until now, Klein spells out, so the discovery was quite the surprise. “I was sure they’d be Bar Kochba coins,” he says.
Apropos, the contents of the box may seem bewildering: precious silver coins wrapped in wool, covered by purple textile no less, then dirt. Klein is not bewildered. For one thing, all that padding – which is what it boils down to – would protect the coins. Chiefly, though, Klein surmises that the owner was in flight and didn’t want his stash to rattle in the box.
That theory would also fit with the manner in which the treasure was hidden, and we can even speculate as to the fate of its owner – because they were still there after 2,200 years.
“It says in the Book of Maccabees that Jews fled to the desert, and now we have proven it true,” says Klein. “This is an absolutely unique find.”
Maybe that is why the coins were still there, found with other stuff from times of yore – including fragments of rope and textiles, other coins that may be from the Bar Kochba period and even tiny fragments of scrolls, Klein reveals.
When the dig of the cave resumes later this month, they hope to find even more. However, it will be hard to beat some of the other artifacts found during the surveys in the desert. These include a large basket gorgeously weaved over 10,000 years ago, which, like the wooden box, survived thanks to having been abandoned in one of the drier places on Earth.

She always wondered how exactly that amount of snow just plowed down in a matter of seconds, because as soon as they put the car in the garage and walked inside it happened, and she couldn’t see anything when she looked out the window.
For someone who had only seen snow very few times, Beatrice never stopped being amazed by this weather. How could she loathe and love it at the same time? The San Diego native in her begged for the sun, the beach, the smell of the ocean and the minimal layering of clothes when leaving the house…but the other part, maybe the part that only showed up because of Rooster, just loved seeing that amount of snow piling up.
Was she still cold? Yes.
Was she still having issues about the amount of layers needed to just get out of the house? Yes.
But she could handle it, her body still had issues getting used to the cold but it was much better than last time. “Hey,” she turns her body when she hears his deep voice calling, a folded towel on his hands, “How are your knees?”
“Huh?” she completely forgot she kneeled on the snow back at the cemetery. But now that she remembered, a jolt of discomfort darted from her knees up to her spine, making her wince, “OH um…hurting a little.” she mutters, looking down at her pants and the wet spots that got smaller because of the heat inside the cabin, “What’s that?”
“A warm towel.” he smiles, “You can lie down on the couch, take your pants off and I can put this on you.”
Beatrice stared at him for a few seconds, then narrowed her eyes, “Wouldn’t a blanket help too?”
Rooster pursed his lips, holding the towel tighter in his hands, “Sure,” he begins, “But that’s not going ot heat up that specific spot only.” and his eyes drop down the length of her body, smirking at her when she just blushed hard and gave him an amused eye roll, laughing at him and nodding. “You can stay on the couch.”
“Not on the bed?”
“Nah, here is fine.”
She narrowed her eyes even more, but hooked her thumbs on the elastic of her pants, gently tugging it down once she’s away from the window - even if no one could see them from the outside, it was still…strange to do that in front of a glass. “What are you planning?”
“I just want you to be warm.”
“On the couch.”
“Yeah.” and he ended with that, smirking even more at her and following the sway of her hips with his eyes, “It’s going to be alright.”
“Mhm.” Beatrice didn’t believe him, but that couch was really nice and maybe it’d be better than going all the way to the second floor and the master bedroom. She does sit on the couch with only her underwear on, watching as he gently drapes the warm towel over her knees. She winces a bit, the sudden thermal shock making her tendons clench with discomfort, “Ow.”
“Everything okay?’
“Hurts a bit.” and then he pulls the blanket, out of nowhere, and puts it over her as well, slipping his hands on both sides of her, tucking the thick fabric around her body as if she was a burrito herself, “...oh.” he arches his brow at her, “Oh I thought…” he kisses her forehead as she snuggles onto the blanket.
“Thought what?”
“Something…that you’d do…when it involves me and I’m only using underwear.”
He laughs, throwing his head back before kissing her nose, pressing their tips together and grinning at her red face, “Later.” he coos, “I want to warm you up first,I can draw a bath for you too.”
“You don’t have to,I can take a shower later.”
“Hm…you sure?” she nods while bringing the blanket to her jawline, burying herself into the soft couch. Rooster smiles, plopping down next to her on the opposite end of the couch - Beatrice wastes no time in putting her feet on top of his lap, swooping the end of the blanket to trap it under her legs. Rooster just grins, placing his hand on top of her calf bone to rub it soothingly through the thick covers.
Beatrice, face partially hidden by the blanket, just blinked at him, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” he says softly, ‘...I’m…glad we went there.” he begins, still rubbing her calf, “I thought I’d be so nervous but…well,I was, but it was easier to handle, you know?”
“I’m glad to hear that,Roos.”
“Yeah.” he inhales shakily, dropping his head to the back of the couch, eyes following the lines of the cabin’s ceiling, “Nikki is asleep, just a little cabbage all wrapped up in the crib…and the dogs are enjoying how warm that place is too…and Jojo is on your bed.”
“Ahh, so that’s why you wanted to stay down here.”
“She looks so cute,I’d hate to wake her up.” he says softly, “Let her have a little fun, that bed is amazing.” he grins, sighing again, “I also wanted to talk to you…you know, just the two of us.”
“Just talk?”
“I mean…for now.”
They shared a laugh, the crackling of the fire only making the comfort of their surroundings wrap them into another warm invisible blanket making them scoot even closer to each other with his touch on her leg climbing up to her thigh but never moving further from there. Beatrice had to admit she was happy to see him…calm and relaxed and…just at peace. He looked at peace, coming here - to Virginia - and seeing his parents’ graves meant a lot to him.
And now that he had Nikki, undoubtedly he’d make it a habit, any time he could. “...you look better.” she whispered, “From early morning, you know? You look relaxed and…just happy…you look fulfilled.”
Rooster chuckles softly, then inhales, “...I have you to thank.” he smiles, “I don’t know if you know that, but your support has helped me a lot, baby.”
“I try my best.”
“I know.” he smiles at her, rubbing her thigh, “And I appreciate it so much, gorgeous. You know how much I do. You are just…an angel. You truly are…and I-” he leans down to kiss her forehead, then the bridge of her nose, “Love you for it.”
Beatrice’s cheeks were still red when he pulled back and her giggling was only muffled by her hands when she covered her face, “I’m all red!” she squeaks, blushing even harder - he could see it on the parts of her face where her hands couldn’t cover. Bradley just grins more, falling back against the couch and keeping his hand on her leg for a while.
What a day it was, and it was still morning.
He wondered what other things they could do this week before the New Years, in fact he knew there were things they could do, he promised he’d take her to a few of his favorite places…maybe his old high school? Is that place still up? It was already old back when he got in, maybe they destroyed it to create something new in place…either way, he could look it up.
Of course that with the snow they didn’t have much to do, it was obvious, but he could figure something out. Beatrice would like anything, as much as she hated the cold they could manage something. “...baby.” he calls and she looks back at him with a little smile, “Oh,I thought you were asleep.”
“Not yet. What’s up?”
“I was just thinking what we could do when, well,” he gestures to the window and the snow falling outside, “This stops. Before the New Year,I mean.”
Beatrice blinks, “Well,I mean, skating is out of the list.” she drops her eyes to her stomach, “For obvious reasons.”
Bradley smiles at her stomach, then lowers himself just enough so his ear rests on it, Bea parts her legs so he’s more comfortable in there. Her hands came up to touch his hair, gently brushing through the sandy brown strands as he remains there, just trying to listen something…there was nothing that he could hear yet, but it was more than welcome to see him being so loving.
“Anything?”
He narrows his eyes, then purses his lips, ‘No, nothing, but maybe I heard a hi on the lower left.” Beatrice laughs again, still combing his hair as he sighs, keeping his cheek on her stomach, “Are you okay, though? No nausea?’
“Nothing yet.” she says, which was true, she feared the trip was going to make her feel sick but it didn’t. She just felt jet lagged, nothing more thankfully, “Nor cravings, I’m okay. I feared I’d get sick too but, I’m glad I didn’t.”
“I know, gorgeous.” he smiles, kissing her stomach, “But you will tell me if you do,right?’
“Yeah, of course.”
“Good.” he smiles, leaning up to kiss her lips sweetly, once, twice, three times, and then keeping his forehead against hers, “You are so pretty, ain’tcha?” and that accent made her melt immediately. Bradley’s accent rarely came out but she adored whenever it did. It was so charming, like those…old movies where the cowboy fell in love with the fancy lady, the ones her father loved to watch.
“Roos.”
“Prettiest girl ever.” he smirks, “I might take you out on a date, what do you think?”
“A date?”
“Yep…as in I’ll prepare us dinner and we’ll enjoy it with the dogs and Nikki.”
Beatrice chuckles softly, touching his cheek with her smaller hand, “I’d never say no to a date with you.” she whispers breathily, feeling like this was just their very first date again. Almost four years together and they were still…like they were. She used to think those things never worked in real life, in fact she just assumed Hollywood created this fake idea of love…and then she met Rooster who could literally be the personification of romance in a very handsome, sexy body.
“Never?”
“Never. You are too romantic for me to say no…plus, I love you.”
His own cheeks flushed just the tiniest bit, his tongue wetting his lips before he kisses her again, “Love you too.” he pushes himself to his feet however, then points at her once he reaches the threshold “I’m gonna set something up for us for lunch, anything in mind?”
“Hmmm, no. Surprise me.”
“That I can do.”
Once he’s out of her view, Beatrice snuggles deeper into the couch and the pillows as she gets comfortable. Her hand only leaves the confines of the blanket to check her phone and see if she got any messages. Of course their friends and family weren’t going to annoy them there, but Beatrice knew they’d message them in some way, shape or form.
And she was right because she got a message from Evelyn, who didn’t want to bother the two at all but she let Beatrice know they were going to find the baby’s gender this week. She also said that Jake’s mom really wanted to know so there was no point in stalling, “...wow she’s three months along already?” she questions herself, then looks down at her own stomach, counting the time on her fingers with her brows going up, “I think this is the highest number of Military babies in less than a year.”
“What?”
“Oh,um,nothing! Just talking to Ev! She’s going to check the baby’s gender this week!”
“Really?”
“Yeah!” she pauses, dropping the phone to her lap, “Do you…want to know the twins’ gender, just like we did Nicole’s?”
Her husband takes a while to reply and instead of shouting he appears on the hallway with his long sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a bowl nestled on the crook of his left arm. He purses his lips, then shrugs, “I don’t know…do you want to?”
“I mean…if you do?”
“...gorgeous,we’ll stay at this for hours.” he laughs, “I mean,I don’t care? We’ll just…raise them the same regardless of what they are,so, of course there’s the need to check on their health…we don’t have to worry about that.”
“I guess so.” she frowns a bit, interlacing her fingers on top of her stomach, her feet moving lazily under the covers, “Do you have any…thoughts? Of what we’ll see?”
“Babies.”
“Rooster.”
“I mean,If I’m honest,” he laughs, holding up a hand, “I’m gonna wait until the bets start, you do know the guys love trying to figure out our life.” he pauses, looking to the side, “Even before we even got together too.”
Beatrice smiles a little bit wider, her cheeks red as she moves her feet under the blanket back and forth, “You wanna wait then?”
“If that’s okay with you, I mean,we still have to tell people and since we want the pregnancy to go smoothly, I don’t see why not.”
She sighs with a little grin, closing her eyes and setting her head on the pillow, “You are right, I don’t really wanna worry about that right now, but I was just thinking…I mean, that means that Ev is three months along.” she begins, “And that she’ll know soon so the baby will be born in…um…maybe June?”
“I think so? It’d make sense with all things considered.”
“And the twins, if everything goes well, will be born in…” she mutters the numbers under her breath, “April or may?” she blinks, “i need to check and be sure so we can set the new nursery too- oh my god we are going to need a new nursery Roos.”
Bradley’s smirk only widens, “I mean, yeah.”
“Hrrmm!”
“Baby, please, it’s okay…now,” he disappears on the corner of the threshold, throwing her a final wink, “I’m gonna finish our lunch, okay? Call if you need me.”
“Okay…” she smiles weakly, the realization that they are having twins getting stronger every day…not that the ultrasound wasn’t enough but…she was just having these moments of ‘is this really real?’ ever since they found out.
She also needed to contact the clinic about her birth control shots and figure out why it just…didn’t work this last time. After all it worked before, why not now?
…or maybe she should take a little nap while Rooster was busy cooking. She could do that.
She was starting to give herself a headache.

AI Doesn't Understand Scale
One of my favorite ways to mess around with text-generating AI is to see what it does with new games that didn't exist on the internet back when its training data was collected.
OpenAI's GPT-3 models were trained with data that cut off in late 2019 which means that they're unaware of certain major world events, as well as of the latest internet memes.
Recently someone posted this hilarious bit of startup advice that had people posting terrible advice of their own:
I guessed that even if a neural net like GPT-3 can't possibly have seen this meme before, it would still be capable of giving terrible startup advice. So, I entered the entire above sequence of brilliant entrepreneurial moves as prompt text, preceded by the word [tomatoes] in brackets to help indicate this was supposed to be a short thing about tomatoes. Then I wrote "[" and let it write a short thing about something else.
DaVinci
Unsurprisingly, the largest GPT-3 variant was the best at catching on to the format. It made the leap that you could amplify eggs in a similar way. And you end up making $1 million on each egg!
[eggs] Same as the tomatoes. Eggs sell for $1 each. He uses 39 chickens to make a dozen eggs in 9 minutes. One hen can lay 355 eggs in 355 days. That’s 11.844 muffins a day. 9:11AM go to the best grocery store in town and buy ALL THE CHICKENS. Keep your receipt. 9:19AM - you take $9.8MM and buy back all your chickens. 9:30AM bring the chickens home. 9:39AM - sell the chickens back to the store for $9.8MM Speculation in eggs prices rises dramatically. If you buy all the eggs, you can sell them back and make $1MM on each egg.
Object permanence is not a strength of DaVinci's - keeping track of the status of physical objects isn't really in its job description. Its world is text.
[wigs] You don't understand scale. Buy one $50 wig. Use it for 6 months until it breaks. Throw it away. Buy another $50 wig. Use it for another 6 months until it breaks. Throw it away. Repeat until you have 182 wigs. Sell them for $50 each.
GPT-3 DaVinci does at least realize that you should end with profitable things happening.
[hammer & nails] You don’t understand scale. Use $100 to buy a hammer. Use the hammer to build with 4 nails. Burn the nail building for warmth. Repeat indefinitely.[chocolate milk] 1 cow gives 160 glasses of chocolate milk per day. A single glass sell for 10k. Lots of profit.[fork] You don’t understand scale. Buy 3 forks. Solve any problem that takes less than 3 forks.
Ada
I also turned to the smallest GPT-3 variant, Ada. It caught onto the format only partially. It got that it was supposed to be about tomatoes. And possibly about money?
[tomatoes] Use $1 to buy 1.5MM tomatoes.[Tomatoes] Do you intend to build a city? ?" Build $500,000 lots and then sell $1,000,000 lots. You want a house outfitted with 50 toilets, 50 outdoor shower systems along with 132 rooms.[tomatoes] They are botanical machines. Of all the tomato varieties, they only grow once! Traversing is their way of existence. They do this every day. They can do "rainbow fruit trees", making "green smoke and crumble flower."
Had I not stopped the generation process, I'm not sure how long Ada would have continued this next one. When people talk about researchers shutting down their AIs because of an unwanted outcome, this is often the kind of thing they mean.
[tomatoes] You don't understand that it's basically the same thing as a bowl of cereal. Potatoes in a can. Pour the potatoes into 35 quart jugs and fill jugs to the brim. Whisk soapmaker. In little tub layers stout ash alum pot paper. Divide into four equal parts of qt and rl into segments measuring 3.2 cm by 0.8 cm. Wash wire wool in 80-95% dewashed water and rinse under tepid water. Prepare three inches of hot coals, gently heat in center of stove 4 inches deep. Roll up soap in crinkly napkins two times to fit into form according to volume-diameter. To remove bubble wrap insert aprons. Heat a small hole as necessary per each pot. Dip each slip to the brush onto each pot, then collect the whole wrap under the string from the soap's top to bottom. Crackfish, partially hulled and cut to about 3 cm across, on an upright flake computer of sufficient volume. Measure and cut parts of soap into even thickness, add by 1 cm to diameter of each bowl. Take soap left out to apartments with sheets and wrap it up in a towel. Fill Sanitary Pail with clay pot suders, layers clay that been finished of three times, each surface 3 cm thick, to the top of the pails. Split soap in half 3 cm ¼ x 0.7 cm just below bottom of tub. Fill bathtub lengthways and level with edge. Lay soap at 4 cups depth, with top down. In the dryer attach film and cling wrap, then lay sheet-hooks 1.6 cm apart on the film. Place plastic apple cores on top of film. Lay film and cardboard pails on top of each other. Cap and secure, then dry for 7-10 days.
If you don't do the entire list, are you really cut out to be an entrepreneur?
I also decided to see what the two midsized GPT-3 models did with this startup advice. Become an AI Weirdness supporter to read the results as bonus material! Or become a free subscriber to get new AI Weirdness posts in your inbox.
