There's a certain CCCC summary video that we really, really like. We think it is a great video for people if they want to grasp the story more clearly, if they're confused, or if they're listening to the album for the first time.
That video being Chonny Jash and the Weight of the Mind on Youtube by W3tBl@nk3t. We think they cover it really well.
However, I'm sharing this for a different reason; they say few certain things that really struck with us until now, that I'd like to share with the fandom. Sometimes, we see people really just.. Miss the point of CCCC entirely, and I'd like to shine a light on what was said here. If you'd like to hear this for yourself on video, the timestamp is 35:57-36:45.
“..I bet we all could relate to that, they are the prime example of the side of you that suffers and the side of you that hates yourself for suffering:
The side of you that just wants to slow down and feel everything even to the unhealthy extent of not being able to do anything else(1), but also the side of you that so desperately wants you to get over it(2).
Sure, laying in bed all day every day to rot isn't healthy, but neither is boiling things down and invalidating your own emotions. Both are paths to inevitable disaster, and that's what Chonny is doing here. Keep in mind that the idea behind this album is being whole, and that means neither of these sides are entirely in the right or the wrong; this album is about inner compromise and acceptance(3).”
1.) The side of you that suffers; Heart. He is representative of Whole's emotions, he holds them. Your emotions can go haywire, especially when one's mentally ill and has no way of their feelings being validated. An emotional person like Heart suffers under the weight of crushing, devastating feelings. He wants to feel things out, have time to just process everything, even if it takes them days or weeks to get over it. It's not healthy, but feeling is what he does, and he wants to help because he knows he has importance. Solely focusing on just your emotions isn't the best thing to do, however.
2.) The side of you that so desperately wants you to get over it; Mind. Many people have been there, have wanted themselves to stop wallowing in their own emotions and just do something else, even to the point where you think feeling things out is unnecessary. This is also unhealthy, but not intentionally. Like Heart, Mind just wants to help, everything he does is in best interest. This is what he thinks will get them to move on the quickest; to leave behind emotions and focus on anything BUT that. Also not the best thing to do.
3.) This album is about inner compromise and acceptance; About being whole. Neither of Heart and Mind are right nor wrong. They have their own ways of doing things, of what they think will help their whole self out the most, but both are unhealthy despite the good intentions. They fight over who's wrong or right, when they shouldn't even be doing so in the first place. It's your thoughts against your emotions, basically; your feelings contradict your thoughts, and it leads to an inner war of sorts. This won't make things better, which is why you can't have Mind over Heart or vice versa; you'll need both of them. In the album, they are only able to be whole when they get along. They harmonize, they 'combine', they see eye to eye with each other and work together instead of fighting over and over. Inner compromise is achieved with this, and acceptance can lead them away from any disaster that there's to come.
What we're trying to say is that mental health is a large thing tackled within CCCC, and yet we see a lot of people who overlook it; thus, end up missing the point of the whole album. We see a lot of people believe Mind's perspective a little too much and treat Heart quite harshly, or the other way where people demonize Mind and say that Heart is perfect, when it's not really that in the slightest.
This is not a hate post towards people's interpretations of CCCC or how they view characters, I'm just saying that people can tend to overlook what's in the very narrative, and we see a concerning amount of people do such.
Anyways. Stream CCCC and put your Hearts and Minds in the get along shirt. Have a nice day.

Keep your distance from COVID-19 misinformation
This is the first blog post by student science writer Mary Magnuson.
It’s easy for anyone monitoring the pandemic through months of 24-hour news cycles to pick up on false information or conspiracy theories.
We talked to University of Wisconsin–Madison experts to figure out why global events like the COVID-19 pandemic might give rise to this on social media – and how to avoid sharing false information.
As the pandemic continues to affect people around the globe, conspiracy theories about the virus have spread through social media and the internet — the notable one a 26-minute long video called “Plandemic.”
In this video, a discredited scientist shares debunked conspiracies about how a group of elites used the virus and potential vaccines for profit. The information in the video was deemed markedly false by experts, and sites like YouTube, Facebook and others worked to take down every iteration of the video.
A protestor in Ohio wields a sign referring to at least one common COVID-19 conspiracy theory and a popular source of misinformation. Source: Flickr user Becker1999
But questions remain. How do conspiracies like this spread, especially in times of uncertainty, like a pandemic? And what can we do to stop them?
Two UW–Madison professors, Dietram Scheufele and Ajay Sethi, helped provide some answers. Scheufele works in the Department of Life Sciences Communication (LSC), where he studies public attitudes around science and science policy. Sethi works in the School of Medicine and Public Health, where he studies the spread of infectious diseases.
How does what you typically study inform your expertise during the pandemic?
Scheufele: A lot of our work with the scimep group here in LSC tries to figure out how we all make sense of complex emerging science that we — in most cases — know little about. COVID-19 is exactly that. Not only are most of us not experts in virology, epidemiology or public health, but the science on COVID-19 is very much in flux, with new findings constantly proving yesterday’s science wrong.
Sethi: I’m an infectious disease epidemiologist. My research focuses on factors associated with the transmission and natural history of infectious diseases, including HIV and healthcare associated infections. Although I have not previously studied coronaviruses, common methods used in infectious disease epidemiology can be applied to the study of most if not all pathogens.
How do I know if the information I’m reading about COVID-19 is accurate and trustworthy?
Scheufele: The fact that much of the science on COVID-19 is far from conclusive at this point doesn’t mean that there is not good expert advice to go by. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), WHO (World Health Organization) and many other organizations are maintaining websites devoted to COVID-19. Those include advice and best practices related to wearing masks, social distancing, if it’s safe to get takeout, etc.
In spite of the bad rap they sometimes get, social media are also a great tool for learning from some of the best experts on COVID-19. Journalists like Helen Branswell or Maryn McKenna (who have actually been both science writers in residence here at UW) have spent their careers writing on and researching infectious diseases and routinely share their work on Twitter. I follow them there not just for their own work, but also because they do a great job vetting and contextualizing the constant stream of information that’s coming our way on corona.
Ajay Sethi
Sethi: First, it is important to recognize that there is a lot of new information about COVID-19 coming out all the time. New knowledge learned is subject to change as the science and study of COVID-19 advances. So, what we thought was true yesterday is not necessarily so tomorrow. That can make it challenging to know whether what you are reading about COVID-19 is accurate. It’s important to evaluate the source to be sure it is reputable and unbiased. Look for peer-reviewed information when possible. When reading information found on a website, I suggest evaluating the website for its credibility, and there are a number of checklists and tools available to do that.
What determines what information people are drawn to consuming and sharing?
Scheufele: That’s a complicated question. We live in a time that is very paradoxical when it comes to the information we all receive. On the one hand, the internet has made it easier than ever before to find the best information quickly, no matter where we are and with little effort. What would have required a trip to the Library of Congress even just 25 years ago, is now one click and a couple of swipes away on our smartphones. On the other hand, apps and algorithms have also made it easier than ever before to avoid any information we don’t want to see or that doesn’t fit our worldview.
Sethi: We are all susceptible to living in bubbles, and getting comfortable in our echo chambers. It can be human nature to surround ourselves with people and ideas that confirm what we believe to be true about the world, which in turn makes us feel good about ourselves and reinforces our worldview.
Are outbreaks like this especially ripe for conspiracy theories?
Scheufele: There’s little systematic evidence that we’re seeing more or fewer conspiracy theories on COVID-19 that we normally do. Of course, it seems like they’re everywhere, but we also need to realize that there is very little news other than COVID-19 right now, and we’re all spending a lot more time online and on our phones than we usually do. But looney ideas like the idea that the Gates Foundation is promoting vaccines for population control or economic gain have been around for years. COVID-19 has just given them new visibility.
But it’s also important to keep in mind that this is a time with almost unprecedented uncertainty and unpredictability for most of us. We have little control over the emergence of viruses like COVID-19. We don’t know what our future holds. And there is no good way out of the crisis that doesn’t require disruptions to our way of life. As a result, it is not particularly surprising that many of us are trying to find ways of making sense of this highly uncertain and deeply unpredictable situation. In the 1940s, social psychologists Fritz Heider and Marianne Simmel showed clips of animated geometric shapes to participants, only to find that many of them attributed human characteristics, motivations and intentions to what were randomly moving circles and triangles. That human tendency to attribute structure and meaning to fairly random sets of events is also what explains the intuitive appeal of movies like “Plandemic”: They give the appearance of meaning and convey a sense of control during a deadly pandemic which likely emerged somewhat randomly, and that has left us with limited control over the spread of a deadly virus.
Sethi: Yes, and there are many examples in history. During times of uncertainty and fear, we can have feelings of losing control. Denialism can also be a reaction. To make sense of stressful situations that develop suddenly with no signs of going away, like the COVID-19 crisis, we may be drawn to explanations to help us feel better about the realities of what we are facing.
I am not a psychologist by any means, but I read research related to the psychology of adopting and perpetuating conspiracies to include in my course, Conspiracies in Public Health. I also find it is useful to read the literature to keep myself from adopting misinformed views.
Why does misinformation about the virus spread so quickly?
Scheufele: There’s little social science that suggests that misinformation about COVID-19 spreads any faster or slower than correct information. In fact, I think we need to be very careful about how we talk about misinformation.
Of course there are things that are clearly wrong. Neither snorting cocaine nor injecting bleach will cure or prevent corona. And they were debunked pretty quickly on both social and legacy media.
What makes things more complicated for science during the current pandemic is what I would call the corona Catch-22: In the public arena, we can only get predictive modeling or mitigation right, but not both. The more successful we are at mitigation, the more inaccurate initial models will appear in hindsight. In other words, looking back people will think that initial models of how COVID-19 would spread had it wrong, precisely because those models encouraged the right policies that helped us avoid worst case scenarios.
The second problem is that there is little settled science on COVID-19. Much of the scientific work on the virus, its spread, and the effectiveness of different interventions is in flux, to say the least. New science constantly proves previous findings wrong. And that’s the way science is supposed to work. It’s supposed to self-correct and iterate toward the best possible explanations. During normal times, that’s just fine. Science plays out over long periods of time, with policy following in due course. For COVID-19, science and policy are emerging at the same time and with breakneck speed. This raises two problems: (a) The uncertainties surrounding science and policy end up overlapping in public perception, and science gets blamed for the inevitable missteps of public policy. (b) Battling misinformation on COVID-19 with science that itself might turn out to be wrong is not a winning proposition for the scientific community. We wrote about that here.
What should I do if someone I know shares or promotes misinformation or a conspiracy theory about the virus?
Scheufele: Debunking is a double-edged sword. It typically requires repeating and — especially on social media — giving additional visibility to misinformation. Some research suggests that this can reinforce rather than debunk inaccurate beliefs or even conspiracy thinking. This doesn’t mean that there is no value in pointing your friends or social media contacts to Snopes.com or any credible resource that debunks misinformation. The idea is to do it in a way that’s constructive, and to keep in mind that we’ve all shared misinformation at some point, even if we don’t remember it.
Twitter post with false (but kind of believable) information
But all of that is based on the assumption that we’re sharing misinformation because we cannot tell that it’s fake. And sometimes that is true. But often, we share information without checking because it fits what we already believe. If I don’t like Trump, I am motivated to find information that makes him look bad. There was a Tweet about President Trump saying that “HUNDREDS of Governors” were calling him that made the rounds on my social media feeds recently, and was retweeted by many of my academic friends. It was fake of course, and a 3-second Google search would have shown that. So, it’s not that people couldn’t tell it was fake. They didn’t care, because it so perfectly fit their expectations and prior attitudes on Trump. One of our doctoral students and I wrote about many of those motivations that often make us believe in misinformation on an open-access article in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).
Sethi: I think it depends on your comfort level and how well you know the person. Some people might choose to avoid confrontation, which is understandable. If their actions cause your blood pressure to go up, it would be best to calm yourself down before saying anything. I also think it’s important to re-visit why you disagree with what they shared just to make sure you have your own facts straight. Things are rarely clear-cut.
So, after all that, if you decide to engage with them, I think it starts with active listening. As an aside, for a while after college (a long time ago!), I was a volunteer crisis counselor. So, my own instincts were formed from that training and experience. I’m no expert, but again, I know listening is important. So is asking questions. And then listening some more. Understand where they are coming from. Identify shared interests and emotions. You may or may not choose to volunteer your own views on the subject. It depends if you are asked for them and if you have established trust with them. That can take time to build, maybe many conversations. Avoid launching into explanations or proving how knowledgeable you are. It causes people to stop listening.
Science is filled with uncertainty, while misinformation often promotes concrete “facts” and “solutions.” Is there a way responsible science communication can achieve both?
Sethi: Understand your audience each time and start by asking what people want to learn from you. Go from there. Always be honest about what you know and what you don’t know. Be consistent, and don’t overstate findings. Learn to communicate nuance artfully. Avoid “dumping” information on people.
What can governments or corporations do to halt misinformation or conspiracies? In an ideal society, what should their respective roles be to curb conspiracies?
Sethi: All institutions have to decide when the spread of misinformed opinions and conspiracies require intervention. It’s important to respect people’s autonomy and rights to express themselves, but we should not tolerate the proverbial “shouting fire in a crowded theater.” I have my ideas as to where to draw the line and what institutions could do, but when I begin to apply them situation-to-situation, I realize it’s not an easy problem to solve.
What role does higher education play in creating citizens equipped to evaluate information? How will the pandemic inform your teaching going forward?
Scheufele: My colleague Dominique Brossard has written extensively on the idea of deference toward scientific authority. Why do we have faith in experts? What is it about science as a way of producing knowledge that makes us follow it more than other ways of knowing? Is it peer review? The scientific process? Her work shows nicely that our faith in scientific institutions is strongly related to K-12 and even K-16 schooling. In other words, education is partly about learning facts, but those facts change over time, especially for COVID-19. Instead, the power of education comes from building faith in science as our best way of knowing.
We actually talk about that in my large undergraduate lecture course in Science, Media and Society. It enrolls students from five or six different colleges at UW who major in genetics, politics, business, engineering, and communication, to just name a few. And COVID-19 already ended up being a large part of this past semester, even before we shifted to online teaching after spring break. How do we all make sense of this global pandemic? How can societies navigate very difficult trade-offs between economic considerations, public health, and individual rights as we’re trying to contain its spread? And what does it mean for Google to work with government and academia to track citizens’ cell phones to model and monitor new infections? LSC 251 going to be offered again this summer and the fall, and I am pretty sure that COVID-19 will be a permanent and probably growing part of what we’ll be talking about.
Sethi: Institutions of higher education are places where ideas and knowledge are learned and exchanged. It’s where “sifting and winnowing” occurs. It begins with teaching and reminding ourselves how to be objective, curious learners.
I began teaching Conspiracies in Public Health three years ago because I grew increasingly concerned about the unraveling of longstanding public health achievements and how previously innocuous topics suddenly became hot button issues. Learning about popular and less popular conspiracies is not the focus of the course. I created the class so that students could explore the psycho-social basis for conspiracy thinking and develop or refine their skills in listening and talking to people with differing views on health and public health topics. Misinformation and conspiracies about COVID-19 provide opportunities for me to fortify the class with contemporary material and opportunities for students to draw connections between course content with what we are reading in the news every day.

Elise Cooper Interviews Michael Connelly
Fair Warning by Michael Connelly brings back two of his best characters, journalist Jack McEvoy, and former FBI Agent Rachel Walling.  Connelly, the master of mysteries, seems to have a ten-year-interval between series books.  This hero and heroine were first introduced in one of the best suspense novels ever written, The Poet.  Ten years later they came back in The Scarecrow, and now they are partners again in this book.
The book begins with the killing of a female during a sexual encounter.  After being questioned by two police detectives, Jack McEvoy becomes a person of interest.  It seems he had a one-night stand with the woman in the past. Against the warning of the police Jack decides to investigate and finds that there are other women killed in the same manner.  Disguised as an accident, they have died of atlantooccipital dislocation, a broken neck, from a fall or by other means. What links the women together is that all of them had signed up for a DNA site called GT23.  Jack believes they were victims of cyberstalking and convinces his skeptical editor that this indeed is a FairWarning story. GT23 charges users only $23, explaining in the fine print in its contracts that the low fee is possible because the company sells data to various users.  It doesn’t disclose that such companies sometimes resell the information.  What the women, DRD4 or “dirty four”, have in common is that they have an addiction gene, either alcohol, drugs, or sex.
Knowing he cannot investigate on his own, Jack asks his former girlfriend, Rachel Walling, to help out. The two pick up where they left off two years ago, both professionally and personally. Together they find that the women’s information is sold to incel (involuntary celibate) men, who blame women for their inability to find sex partners.  One of these women-haters is the killer known as the Shrike. They race to find the killer before he strikes again, putting their lives in danger.
Connelly fans will not be disappointed with this gripping and riveting plot.  The main characters are a fabulous team that makes the story stand out. Readers will be on the edge of their seats and can only hope that the next book with this duo happens much sooner than later.
Elise Cooper: Why bring Jack and Rachel back now?
Michael Connelly:  This book is a reflection on what is going on with journalism now.  This has always been an interest and focus of mine.  The last few years there has been an era of “fake news,” and reporters labeled enemies of the people.  It has bothered me because I had been a reporter for fourteen years.  I know a free media is so important to society.  I wanted to write a story showing an unbiased and undaunted journalist doing his job.
EC:  The series with Jack and Rachel always seems to have warnings about technology?
MC: There is an evolution of technology in the series.  For every great stride made with technology there has to be someone to figure out how to use it against us.  The Poet, that came out in 1996, showed how technology was used by pedophiles.  The Scarecrow was about digital security of information stored on the so-called “Cloud.”  This book delves into privacy issues regarding DNA.
EC:  Did something spark your interest regarding this storyline?
MC:  Last year, I read a storyline where the Pentagon warned people about DNA sites.  I put this quote in the book, “Did you know that this year the Pentagon told all member of the military not to do DNA kits because of the security issues they pose?” This sparked my imagination and interest.  The old reporter in me found this world is pretty much unregulated. The government is studying what regulations should be put on this billion-dollar industry.  Because the government moves slowly there has been no oversight and leaves a place for corruption.  I put my research into the book. I like it when there is a blurred line between reality and fiction.
EC: Is the website true?
MC:  FairWarning is a real news site offering tough watchdog reporting on consumer issues. It is a nonprofit founded by Myron Levin, who is Jack’s editor in the book. I am a member of FairWarning’s board of directors. To find out more information just go to FairWarning.org. I want readers to understand this is not science fiction.
EC:  How would you describe Jack?
MC:  Jack is a paranoid guy, but has legitimate concerns about how secure is any information. As a journalist he seeks to wander if that paranoia is valid.  Because he has a single-minded drive and is so career-oriented he appears rough and is hard to like.  He speaks first and thinks later.  Since this is a book about DNA I would say that in the center of his DNA is ‘I must protect my story from everyone,’ including other reporters, the police, his boss, and even Rachel.  This is not a great way to function, but he is set in his way. He realizes he is not bound by the ethics of law enforcement, but bound by the ethics of journalism.
EC:  How would you describe Rachel, a badass who kicks butts?
MC:  Rachel is not tough to like.  I think readers like her on the first page they meet her.  There has to be a DNA gene for female fierceness, which is what she has.  She is fiercely protective of what is important to her. She fiercely has the ideas of fairness and righteousness.  She is a great role model for anyone that sees women as fierce fighters who stand up for justice. I think Rachel is the ultimate hero of these stories.  She is tough and is the centerline to keep Jack from flying out of orbit. Although no longer an FBI Agent, Rachel is able to give the law enforcement aspect with her connections.
EC: What role does their relationship play in the book?
MC: Jack is able to connect more with readers through his relationship with Rachel. They are made for each other in short bursts because they cannot go the distance.  They always seem to be entangled with each other. Besides being a character in her own right, she is like the carnival barker that gets people into the Jack tent. They go in because of her. Unlike this couple, I do not have it in my own life.  I have been happily married for 36 years.  I am writing about something that is not akin to me, which for me, makes it fascinating to write about.
EC:  In all the books of this series there is the “bullet quote?”
MC:  You are referencing when Rachel told Jack that she believed everybody had somebody out there in the world who could pierce their heart like a bullet. Not everybody had the good fortune of meeting that person, and not everybody could hold on to that person if they did meet. For Jack and Rachel there had never been any doubt. Her name was on the bullet that pierced Jack and he was the one that pierced Rachel’s heart. I can still remember when I wrote those lines.
EC:  There is also a quote that complements the “bullet quote?”
MC:  Yes, this Jack quote, “My interactions with her had spanned nearly twenty-five years and had been hot and cold, intense and distant, intimate and strictly professional, and ultimately heartbreaking. From the beginning, she had left a hole in my heart that could never quite heal. I could go years without seeing her but I could never stop thinking about her.” It is filtered in the whole world of books that have Rachel and Jack.
EC:  Would you ever consider a TV show with this series?
MC:  I would love that.  Over the years I developed it, but it has never gone forward.  Jack does not carry a gun and his true role in society is to observe, not to push the action.  He only pushes the action because Rachel is with him.  I think a better thing to do is to serialize the story telling, like the Bosch series, where a book is carried over a whole season.
EC:  In this season 6 of the Bosch TV series on Amazon the FBI Agent was not Rachel, as it was in the book, The Overlook?
MC:  Yes, because I did not want to give Rachel’s character up in Bosch.  Then I would never be able to make a TV show with someone else because Amazon would have all the rights to her character. I am thinking ahead that the books with Jack and Rachel would spawn some interest.
EC:  Also, in the Amazon series you took a page out of Hitchcock, a “where’s Michael?”
MC:  I implant myself, which was fun to do.  I am not at the set every day so the director asked me if I wanted to be in it.  Last year I made an appearance and this year as well.
EC:  What about your next book?
MC:  I do want to get back to Rachel and Jack sooner than the ten-year gap. I just do not have a plan yet, but am hopeful we will see them fairly soon.
My next book will have Mickey Haller, entitled The Law of Innocence. I try to make my books very contemporary, and so it was actually set in April of this year. Then the virus happens, and we just don't know how we come out of this, or where we are going. It is a courtroom drama and there are no courtrooms because everything was shut down.  I had to retool and rethink. So rather than it starting in April, it now starts in December or may go into next year. The plot has Mickey Haller accused of a murder and is jailed.  He strategizes his defense from a jail cell.
THANK YOU!!

I BECOME MUCH MORE AWARE OF IT
Whether you end up among the living or the dead comes down to the third ingredient, not giving up. At the very least, crank up the font size big enough to make all the text legible. Now when we talk to them, not something customers need. Whatever the story is in the sciences, true collaboration seems to be making an effort. The VCs will have to be a total slacker. He explained that he'd just bought it in Thailand. More often people who do great things have careers with the trajectory of a ping-pong ball. Some of the founders mentioned a rule actors use: if you feel you're speaking too slowly, you're speaking at about the right speed. The two-job route has several variants depending on how long you work for money at a time till they feel they have nothing to invest. They just haven't realized yet that the economic cage is open. I'm not kidding.
At other Y Combinator events we allow outside guests, but not at Rehearsal Day. It was the same in the audience at startup school. We take applications for funding every 6 months. Which route should you take? Founders understand their companies better than investors, and we only regret about 10% of our decisions. So if investors want to get a VC to use up one of his 10 board seats for only a few steps away from being able to start successful startups, and who instead let themselves be swept into the intake ducts of big companies buying startups will only accelerate. When the thing we want is something we want to want—when it transforms opium into heroin—it seems bad. Never say we're passionate or our product is great. On the Internet, and distractions always evolve toward the procrastinators. The distribution of investors should mirror the distribution of startups, the big winners are big to a degree that violates our expectations about variation. In fact, it may actually be good for them to do anything more than leak internal documents designed to give the impression that you'll get enough information to make each choice before you need to be able to use VCs to drive up the valuation of an angel, and moreover, a quick 10x return. The landscape of possible jobs isn't flat; there are walls of varying heights between different kinds of academic work, because that showed how much you have to like making up elaborate lies.
Nearly all the returns are concentrated in a few big successes, so that in retrospect it seems obvious they were going to make it. Tip: avoid any field whose practitioners say this. And they were right. If it succeeds, you get better results if you use flexible media. The term angel round doesn't mean that all the founders are still the most powerful people in the company, whereas after a series A round if you do it so early. It's hard to find work you love. You also lose less control. It would also be helpful if the styling was in the industries that spiked the sharpest before the Depression.
Ten weeks later we invite all the investors we know to hear them present what they've built so far. Don't get too deeply into business models. Another place democracy seems to win is in deciding what counts as news. And I mean show, not tell. A lot have been told by their parents that the route to success is to build something valuable, and you could tell he meant it. The reason startups no longer depend so much on VCs is one that everyone in the startup business knows by now: it has gotten much cheaper to start a startup and think they seem likely to succeed at all. They'll just remember you as the company with the boneheaded plan for making money, rather than the order in which they happen to appear on the screen. The most dangerous liars can be the kids' own parents. I have some idea what they mean. Always produce is also a heuristic for finding the work you love, you're practically there. Most investors know this m. But I suspect the filter is set a little too high.
Unfortunately after reading it they decided it was too controversial to include. And if they do, I can now look at a group we're interviewing through Demo Day investors' eyes. Why is it that research can be done by collaborators. How to Start a Startup I advised startups never to let anyone fly under them, meaning never to let any other company offer a cheaper, easier solution. The three big powers on the Internet now are Yahoo, Google, Amazon, Cisco and Microsoft how they'd feel about two candidates, both 24, with equal ability, one who'd tried to start a rapidly growing business as software. And it is completely non-discriminatory. There were not a lot of money—so does IBM, for that matter. Because remember, the Microsoft monopoly didn't begin with Microsoft. Till now, VCs' claims about how much value they added were sort of like the government's. Design means making things do more of what we want. I had to start treating it differently. So ultimately we're aiming for the same destination, just approaching it from different directions.
Failing at 40, when you have a fairly tolerant advisor, you can opt to be valued directly by users, by starting your own, you'd learn a thing or two running your own company. The spread of tablets makes it possible to build new things controlled by and even incorporating them. No one does that kind of idea. Worse still, anything you work on changes you. It's distracting. The biggest difference is that you look smug. Both Blogger and Delicious did that. There are several reasons why, but one is that people don't want to end up with less stock per startup, but startups will probably do better with founders more in control, and there will probably be survivors from each group.
An unbiased review would go something like this: instead of a fixed round size, startups will do a rolling close, where they take money from investors one at a time. He got away with it, but it's less true now. There are a lot of variation in the incoming stream, but instead of pursuing this thought they tended to suppress it, in the language of VCs, gone from a must-have to a nice-to-have. One of the biggest remaining obstacles is pride. If you're young, you should probably take the organic route. And unless the forms of technological progress that produced these things are subject to different laws than technological progress in general, and partly because it seems kind of slimy. If the startup can't raise the rest, the lead is out too. Instead of getting a prototype out quickly and gradually refining it, you try to raise money. Maybe that will help, if you think about it, because our definition of success is that the kind of help that matters, you may as well just translate these to we're giving up on the startup. Tim says the phrase Web 2. Instead of getting a prototype out quickly and gradually refining it, you try to raise money from VCs, and a supposedly neutral fifth person.
But the average startup fails. You have to be careful about. So I'll tell you now: bad shit is coming. Plenty of people who make good startup founders don't mind dealing with technical problems—but they hate the type of problems investors cause. Disruptive technologies are developed by disruptive people. If half the startups we fund never to lord it over users. Another reason people in their early twenties don't start startups is that you've built something based on your own projects than an undergrad or corporate employee would. At least one startup from the most recent summer cycle may not even raise angel money, let alone write their own in house. If it fails, that is.
