Not gonna lie, still upset they left Eddie. They used more energy stopping Richie than it would have taken to bring Eddie.

"Oh but he's dead."

So, now he's stuck in the once place he didn't want to be, forever.

It sucks.

"It's based off a book. They can't just change it"

The whole scene is changed. In some ways, they made it more poetic. In the book, everyone but Eddie is caught in the dead lights, not just Richie. Eddie doesn't stab IT he sprays IT in the mouth with his aspirator (inhaler), so IT crushes and bites his arm, severing it. So, there is no gut stab, just no more arm for Eddie. Different kind of bleeding out.

I guess they wanted it to be an unfixable injury, like they thought the Losers could've found a way to stop the bleeding, but it would be really hard to stop the bleed after someone's impaled.

So, like divergence from the book isn't an awful thing. Kinda glad they did for a bunch of stuff, like that one chapter... glad that was gone. I just think it would've been easier to take Eddie's body out of that place than to force out a fighting Richie, give him a better resting place than down there.

say what you will about IT (1990) as an adaptation but i think the creative choice of changing the narrative so that eddie kaspbrak could come out as a virgin, share (unprompted) that it’s because the only people he loves enough to fuck are the members of his 80% male childhood friend group, and then immediately kick the bucket is actually the greatest thing ever. Amazing. no notes. genius work.
