Sometimes (most times) I honestly cry because this horse makes me so happy. The love I feel for this horse is so pure and vast it kind of even scares me. There’s nobody who challenges me in the way he does, nobody makes me laugh the same, cry the same, hurt the same, love the same and absolutely nothing makes me more grateful to be alive. I am humbled every day by simply being allowed to be in his presence.

One thing I wonder about a lot is when did we go from being lucky to be connected to these animals, to what I see a lot now – them apparently being “lucky” because we own them? The horse must behave exactly the way we want them to, can’t have their own opinion and must always obey the human without questions.

Let me be clear about this one thing: Your horse did not choose you. You chose your horse. You chose to lead a life where you live with, take care of and ride horses. So why the fuck is it the horses’ responsibility to make you happy and pleased? Why is it not your responsibility to make them happy and pleased? And when did it become fucking criminal to ask these questions? I personally don’t really care that people look at me funny when I talk about my horse and how grateful I am to simply breathe the same air as him. I don’t really care that people think I’m weird. Because every time I see my horse I remember what it’s all about. Every time I ride I still get butterflies (after almost nine years with the same being). Every time we go for a walk I laugh. And at least once a week I bawl my eyes out in wonder of how I ever got so lucky. To find someone who awakens my soul, at the age of 13 – and to still be with him. What a fucking privilege it is to experience this weird thing called life, by his side.
