I’ve missed having some “life” in my little apartment (aside from obvious horse noises coming from my direct NEIGHbours), and I’ve had an aquarium set up and running with just some plants since November.

The water values are ideal now, so I went and bought a few Tetra fish! They’ll be accompanied by a male Betta at some point, and I need to find some shrimp to do clean up.

But! These guys are a start and I’m excited to have them 🐟 😊

It is spring in Iceland and the perfect time to go for a horse ride to enjoy the beautiful Icelandic landscape. We recently went to visit our friends and project partner from @islenskihesturinn - The Icelandic Horse, and joined them on their amazing Volcanic Landscape tour. The company is owned and run by Begga Rist and her husband Sveinn Atli, and all their tours begin with a visit to "Begga's Riding School". This gives both experienced and inexperienced riders alike a great understanding of what it means to ride the horses of Iceland and how to get the most out of the trip. And importantly, it enables almost everyone to experience the amazing tölt. They place large emphasis on quality, sustainability and equality - both for horses and people. As a result, the staff has a driving passion for horses as well as the Icelandic nature, an all the guides operating the tours are educated guides. During our Volcanic Landscape tour, we were amazed by riding through the beautiful geothermal landscape - but the highlight of the tour was experiencing Begga's passion for the Icelandic Horse and how this positively influenced the entire group. #Horsesoficeland (at Reykjavík, Iceland)

Things this weekend:

• staying in a lodge of sorts with only 3 people I know and 5 others who I don’t know very well: a bit stressful

• going out with horse onto the Veluwe; she’s gonna respond very well I’m sure but still...it’s a bit of a Thing. 

• that said: going out with other horses too - how will they do? If they run, will Lily run with them or go ‘nah bruh I got ya’

These things are only slightly stressful and they’re things I can actually easily handle but the ONE thing I’m super fucking stressed out about is driving there.

From total trepidation to surrendering myself to the liquid life power of 🐴 - I’ve decided horses must be a part of my life from now on! From them, I’ve learned that it’s so important to community your energy and capacity. And when you do, it’s a magical interspecies interaction that becomes a lesson for how to move through life with all human beings, and most importantly, yourself. . @icelandichorsepower @islenskihesturinn here it is!! It’s a bridle from Karlslund! I did detach the noseband from the bridle itself because it got too close to Frelsi’s eyes for my taste. But it’s perfffff now 😍

Frelsi’s new bridle arrived yesterday!! So today I quickly popped on a bit and after my morning ride with Mysla, I tried it on her. First time for her to wear a bridle and a bit so I’m really proud! She was pretty nonplussed about it, but she was very confused about why eating hay was suddenly so much more difficult haha. So quickly off again, lots of treats en freedom to eat all the hay she wanted

Sometimes I write feature length articles for an Icelandic horse magazine published by the United States Icelandic Horse Congress. Earlier this year I wrote a really cool piece on alternative hoofcare that included case studies and great scientific data. In the forthcoming issue, I’ll have a big article on Gait separation training that brings in learning theory, clicker training, biomechanics and classical dressage. I have a couple of other cool pieces planned for later in the year as well. If you’d like to read these articles and support the USIHC, all you have to do is become a USIHC member.
