Getting disgustingly obsessed with the band Voice of Baceprot. Its an Indonesian trio from West Java. Their song School Revolution has been on my radar for a good bit, but only recently started getting to know the bands broader discography after bumping into more songs on a Taqwacore playlist (though i'd personally put them more on the punk influenced metal end of things than straight islamic punk). The work they have put out the last couple years absolutely deserves to be lauded.

Water Vessel, ca. 1580-1600 (made)
Probably Lahore, Mughal Empire
Brass, cast and engraved
Diameter: 15.4cm, Height: 12.3cm
Brass vessel of compressed spherical form with short neck and everted rim. Cast with engraved decoration, the hatched ground filled with the black decoration. Mughal empire, c. 1580-1600.
All the inscriptions on this vase, both on the outside and covering the interior surface, are in a bold, finely engraved naskhi script. The outside bears invocations to the 'Panj ahl-e beyt', or 'five Members of the House of Muhammad' and the inside has Koranic suras. The vessel seems originally to have had a spout. It is one of the earliest examples of metal wares so far known to have a form strongly characteristic of the Indian subcontinent but combined with purely Iranian decoration. It was bought for six guineas (£6. 6s. 6d) from F. Headen Cope, Esqre, Principal of C. J. College, Lahore, and placed in the Metal Room in the museum, 15th July, 1889. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project.
This water vessel was made within the Mughal empire, probably between about 1580 and 1600. All the inscriptions on the outer and inner surfaces are in a bold, finely engraved naskh. The outside bears invocations to the Panj Ahl-e Beyt, or 'Five Members of the House' of the Prophet Muhammad, and the inside Koranic verses. The decoration is based on Safavid designs of the period of Shah Tahmasp of Iran, but the form is characteristic of the Indian subcontinent. Collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum

12.18.2023 - the manitoba scroll wheel conjecture continues.
So. I'm with mom in Florida. Got here Saturday ( 12.16.2023 ) night. Had a little turbulence due to some bad weather as we neared Orlando. Nothing major. Got stuck at the runway for almost an hour because of delays though. But it's now Monday the 18th. Got up for fajr with mom and she went to work. She has a full shift today and tomorrow and then starts her Christmas vacation. So I'm just sitting in the apartment listening to music like "what the hell should I do?" That feeling. The antipsychotic feeling. As if I am being restrained from within my cells. That vegetative lack of motivation. I can think of things to do. But I don't have that capacity to turn the idea into an impulse and an action. There is little joy in the action. I don't want to do anything. I mean I WANT TO DO A LOT but.... So I thought. "Get up and go write" whatever comes out comes out. And so I'm listening to a remix of a Clams Casino song called "I'm God" ( arael. remix). It reminds me a lot of a period while I was still direct messaging Aubrey Plaza on instagram - before the great block update. What am I doing here? Like. What is the purpose of my existence? What am I supposed to be doing, if anything? I have some clues from the Quran. I'm not saying they are dissatisfying answers. It's just. Like aside from the 5 prayers today. What else should I do? Is keeping this blog i.e. writing this post part of my purpose? I'm going to make that cauliflower pizza for lunch. Is that it? The end of this post? What else do I want or have to write? Is the fact that I don't write nearly as often because of the antipsychotic numbness? I think so. You won. You people calmed me down. I have acknowledged defeat. There is something intrinsically wrong with me that needs correction. Ann Klein I await you. Fuck with my pills. Keep me locked away. Push it even farther than it has gone. It doesn't matter. I want to escape this. There is a prison in my cells. The end. Oh yea - the band Archspire is dope.

"Did you know that the art of stained glass originated in the Muslim world?
In the eighth century, skilled glassmakers in Egypt made a groundbreaking discovery—the technique of painting glass with metallic stain. This innovation led to the creation of transparent stains, colored with copper (producing red or brown) and silver (resulting in yellow), which became distinctive features of early Islamic glassware in Egypt and the Near East.
Fast forward to the 13th century, when decorators in the Syrian region achieved a significant milestone by applying enamels on glass on a large scale. Over the following two centuries, Syrian and Egyptian craftsmen crafted a diverse array of glass objects in various shapes and sizes, adorned with brilliant polychrome ornamentation. These items served practical purposes such as hanging lamps for illuminating mosque interiors, as well as functional vessels and other useful items, along with awe-inspiring display pieces.
In the later Middle Ages, European admiration for Islamic luxury glasses soared due to their exotic aesthetics and advanced technical craftsmanship. Some even believed these objects to be relics from the Holy Land. Fragments of Islamic glass, often adorned with gilding and enameling, have been discovered in archaeological excavations across Europe, while intact pieces grace cathedral treasuries. Notably, excavations have unveiled evidence of the exportation of Islamic glass vessels to China, highlighting the widespread influence and global trade connections of this innovative art form."
