A Praise Poem of Lipit-Estar
A Praise Poem of Lipit-Estar is a Sumerian praise song honoring Lipit-Estar (also known as Lipit-Ishtar, r. c. 1870 to c. 1860 BCE), the fifth king of the First Dynasty of Isin, best known for his legal code written between the time of the better-known Code of Ur-Nammu and the later Code of Hammurabi.

im going to be utterly deranged and spoiler heavy for monogatari and call of the night (specifically the manga) here but thats your warning
see the thing is that like. mahiru and kiku's arc is like such a weird perfect foil to koyomi and kiss-shot/shinobu's arc. both are a vampire who wants to die, and a human who inexplicably comes and to the vampire appears to fulfill their wish, but the human chooses to disregard the vampires opinion in order to meet their own desire. kiku just wanted to actually truly die. kiss-shot was looking to finally die. they both found their human through chance, either unexpectedly fulfilling plans or readjusting them for a better path. the real core of what makes them different, is the humans, specifically in how they subvert the desires of the vampire theyve met.
kiss-shot's death specifically in reguards to koyomi serves as a direct parallel to his own moral code. kiss shot doesn't want to die any old way, the second she really starts to be near death at the start of kizu she's desparate for koyomi to save her. kiss shot wants to be a martyr. kiss shot chooses to die as a "heroic sacrifice" for koyomi to regain his humanity. sadly for her, koyomi does the exact same back to her, and sacrifices his shot at humanity again to "save" her. kiss-shot's death is undone by the nature that she tried to inflict on someone else.
kiku and mahiru arent as perfectly connected the way koyomi and kiss-shot are, partially due to a large part of call of the night being pretty clearly on the fly narrative writing done by kotoyama (please season 3 confirmation too, itamura is so good at improving the rough edges of early cotn's narrative i cannot wait for an anime adaptation of the kiku arc), and more largely due to the fact that kotoyama is Not Nisio Isin. even so, they both are in a sense, saviors to each other, more explicitly through love. which. yknow. is unsuprising considering call of the night has from chapter 1 been kinda obsessed with weird angles on it but. not to tangent much. mahiru essentially gains his only way of handling his mothers mistreatment of him through not just meeting kiku as a teenager, but meeting her as a child after the loss of his brother and gaining a frame to process the world that works for him. i think the obvious angle with kiku wanting to die and mahiru being a real shot for her finally is pretty clear, but i think the process that a vampire falling in love with a human goes through is just as interesting of an angle to explore for this. her heart starts beating again. she loses vampiric powers. she becomes human again through mahiru. of course, like koyomi, mahiru ends up essentially "betraying" her wants on from the two of them, but in an entirely different way. she desparately wants him to live after, gives him guides to stay safe, teaches him how to destroy every single personal posession so nothing could be used against him once he turns and she's not there to protect him. the tragedy is that kiku is as inexperienced as every single other person in the story when it comes to love. why would mahiru want to live afterwards? when given the option of living without one of the 3 people in the world that made anything worth living, or dying, he chose death.
i think theres probably a lot more to say, i love that they both pose the question "what would you choose, either you living and your partner dying or you both dying" and mahiru answers honestly with both dying while koyomi scribbles both answers out to go "what if we both... half die?"
sorry for all of that im going to go explode now

Cipher Academy ch.49 thoughts
[What is a "Yout?"]
(Contents: character design, author philosophy, Toshusai analysis)
ONE YEAR DOWN, BABY, THREE TO GO!!! It's been pretty touch and go, and probably will continue to be, but the longer it goes the more likely Cipher Academy is to build up a strong enough following to keep going, so fingers crossed that the volumes keep selling well!
This week's chapter opens with a beautiful color page showing off everyone's color schemes (except the teachers' for some reason) and a quick review of the major codes we've seen so far. Most of the hair colors are pretty standard, Koshibai and Umitsubame notwithstanding, but the biggest surprise for me has to be Dekiai, who I would have bet money was blue, but nope! She's pink! I guess water can be any color if you dye it, I just figured the idea would be for her to look like a melted Kogoe. Maybe they went with pink to obscure that a bit more or because they looked too similar in color?
Speaking of Dekiai, the jury for Toshusai's trial being several Dekiais with different pigtails and beauty marks was a really fun touch, I especially liked the one whose hair popped when she felt scandalized. The fact that the prosecution is named Hakuai and clearly doesn't have any shading suggests that she's all white, so I wonder if perhaps each Dekiai was a different color with a unique name. I'm also curious if they're all just the one Dekiai playing multiple parts, or if they're each their own unique AI. I'm inclined to believe the former, but who knows
Another cute detail, when the Dekiais call for a guilty verdict, their beauty marks turn into spades. Looks like someone read Homestuck
Onto the meat of the chapter, this is really the type of philosophy that Nisio Isin loves to talk about, huh? There was an entire chapter in Medaka Box about how there are no easy or right answers when it comes to ethics, and it could be argued that that was one of the major themes of Medaka Box as a whole. This chapter's suggestion that the concept of a person is a societal construct is certainly novel, and while it does go out of its way to paint Toshusai as the good guy in this scenario, it's also clear that we're not meant to necessarily feel good about it. Her actions freed slaves and toppled an oppressive government: objectively good! Her actions did also create child soldiers and result in half a million deaths: objectively bad. Reducing whether this was a good thing or not to the number of lives "created" and lost leaves...a bad taste in the mouth, I feel. Like, did Toshusai intentionally give weapons to the kids with the intention of creating an uprising? It doesn't sound like it, it sounds like she was asked to create a weapon a child could use, and then it happened to end up in the hands of children who needed liberation
Intention and consequence are only linked via action and otherwise have no bearing on each other; whatever Toshusai wanted to happen when she made the Gun Eye is irrelevant, the fact of the matter is that people died because of a weapon she created, at least that's how she sees it. Even if she did liberate slaves, it's not like she's a revolutionary who carefully planned out how to save them, she was a child who made a toy that was lethal. A weapon's purpose is to kill, a sentiment that I've surprisingly seen crop up a lot in Jump lately, and Toshusai knows that the only outcome that was ever going to come of making the Gun Eyes was that people would die
Of course, how Toshusai sees herself and how everyone else in the story sees her is only part of the equation - the rest is how the fans see her. Is she a liberator or a death dealer? Which is more important, the right to freedom or the right to security? I have my opinions on the matter, but I can't claim that my opinion is the objective correct one or that other readers will feel the same
I'm still endeared to Toshusai and I still like her as a major lead; she did something that helped people, but through a method that she resents, both because there might have been a way to bring about a peaceful resolution and because even if there wasn't, the presence of that method now means that more people are in danger in the long run. Even if the child revolution was a net gain of life and personhood, the Gun Eyes still exist and are still put in the hands of children, and probably not to overthrow their oppressors. Toshusai means to fix that mistake and prevent any further deaths by any means necessary, and that's a goal I can respect

Deity Dagan
Originally a god of West Semitic speakers from the Levant, but worshipped widely throughout the Near East, including Mesopotamia.
Deity of grain, as well as its cultivation and storage. Indeed, the common word for "grain" in Ugaritic and Hebrew is dagan. According to one Sumerian tradition and to the much later Philo of Byblos, Dagan invented the plow. In the north, he was sometimes identified with Adad. Thus, he may have had some of the characteristics of a storm god. In one tradition his wife was Ishara, in another Salas, usually wife of Adad. Salas was originally a goddess of the Hurrians. Dagan also had netherworld connections. According to an Assyrian composition, he was a judge of the dead in the lower world, serving with Nergal and Misa-ru(m), the god of justice. A tradition going back at least to the fourth century BCE identified Dagan as a fish god, but it is almost certainly incorrect, presumably having been based upon a false etymology that interpreted the element "Dag" in Dagan as deriving from the Hebrew word dag "fish."
The earliest mentions of him come from texts that indicate that, in Early Dynastic times, Dagan was worshipped at Ebla. Dagan was taken into the Sumerian pantheon quite early as a minor god in the circle of Enlil at Nip-pur. Kings of the Old Akkadian peri-od, including Sargon and Narām-Sin, credited much of their success as conquerors to Dagan. Sargon recorded that he "prostrated (himself in prayer before Dagan in Tutul [sic]" (Oppen-heim, ANET: 268). At the same time, he gave to the god a large area of the country he had just conquered, including Mari, Ebla, and larmuti in western Syria. A number of letters from the Mari archives, dated mainly to the reign of Zimri-Lim, record that Dagãn was a source of divine revela-tion. The letters reported prophetic dreams, a number of which came from Dagan, conveyed by his prophets and ecstatics. In his law code, Hammu-rapi credits Dagan with helping him subdue settlements along the Euphrates.
The Assyrian king Samsi-Adad I commissioned a temple for him at Terqa, upstream from Mari, where funeral rites for the Mari Dynasty took place.
In the Old Babylonian period, kings of the Amorites erected temples for Dagan at Isin and Ur. In the Anzû(m) myth, Dagan was favorably coupled with Anu(m). At Ugarit Dagan was closely associated with, if not equated to, the supreme god El/I(u). Although he is mentioned in the mythic compositions of Ugarit as the father of the storm god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad, Dagan plays only a very minor role. His popularity is indicated by his importance in offering and god lists, one of which places him third, after the two chief gods and before the active and powerful god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad. Dagan is attested in Ugaritic theophoric names. In Ugaritic texts the god is often referred to as "Dagan of Tuttul." It might also be the case that one of the two major temples of the city of Ugarit was dedicated to him, and he might there have been identified with the chief god I(u) / El.
Festivals for Dagãn took place at Ter-ga and Tuttul, both of which were cult centers of the god. He was certainly worshipped at Ebla and also at Mari.
At Mari, in Old Babylonian times, he appears as fourth deity on a god list; that is, he was very important. He was venerated also at Emar. There a "Sacred Marriage" ritual between Dagan and the goddess Nin-kur was celebrated.
At the same city, a festival was held in honor of "Dagan-Lord-of-the-Cattle," at which the herds of cattle and prob. ably sheep were blessed.
According to the Hebrew Bible, Dagan was the national god of the Philistines. I Samuel:5-6 tells of the capture of the Ark of the Covenant by the Philistines. It was customary in the Ancient Near East for the conquerors to carry off the deity statues of the conquered to mark the surrender not only of the people, but also of their deities.
So the Philistines took the Ark, the symbol of the god of the Israelites, into the temple of Dagan at Ashdod. Since the Israelites had no statues of their deity, the much revered Ark was an obvious substitute. In this way, the Philistines marked the submission of the Israelite god to Dagan. However, on the next day, the people of Ashdod found the statue of Dagan lying face down in front of the Ark. The following day the same thing happened except that the head and hands of Dagan's statue lay broken on the temple threshold. This biblical account seems to be an etiology for a practice of the priests of the temple of Dagan at Ashdod, for it states that for this reason it is the custom of the priests of Dagan not to tread on the threshold as they enter the temple of Dagan. The best-known of the biblical stories that mention Dagan is in Judges 16, the tale of Samson and Delilah. After Delilah arranged for the Philistines of Gaza to capture Samson, they blinded him, shackled him, and made him a slave at a mill. During a festival to Dagan, the Philistines took Samson to be exhibited in Dagan's temple, where thou sands of Philistines had gathered for the celebrations. After praying to the Israelite god, the now long haired Samson got back his old strength. By pushing against two central pillars, he brought the temple crashing down on himself and on more Philistines than he had killed in his whole lifetime of killing Philistines.

Manga First Impression: Cipher Academy (Chapter 1 - Spoilers)
Tumblr media
The second of 4 new Weekly Shonen Jump premieres is now out, this one called Cipher Academy. The art is handled by Yuji Iwasaki (to my knowledge this is their first weekly serial), and on writing duties is Nisio Isin who I'm aware has quite the bibliography to his name as the creator of the long-running novel series Monogatari, as well as other novel series like Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, Pretty Boys Detective Club, and who previously wrote for Shonen Jump with Medaka Box.
I'll admit I have very little first-hand familiarity with the writings of Isin, mainly extending to having watch the first episode of Katanagatari in a college anime club meeting, but I did think it was an interesting story idea, so let's see what he's got here for his first WSJ manga in a decade+.
Tumblr media
Our protagonist is Iroha Irohazaka, a student at the titular Cipher Academy: a military academy which cultivates code-breakers to be prepared for whatever the next big military conflict is. Despite the academy being previously all-girls, Iroha is granted attendance as the "token boy" (actual manga words) of his class. After keeping one of his classmates, Kogoe Horagatoge, from being discovered by another classmate, she returns the favor by gifting him a special pair of glasses that can decipher hidden codes within assignments and riddles: a godsend for a protag who was struggling with a crossword puzzle.
Tumblr media
Iroha is later cornered by the pursuing student, Kyora Toshusai (heiress to a weapons manufacturing company), who grants him a riddle to solve. Failure to do so will lead to him becoming her manservant, but luckily the glasses serve their purpose and help illuminate the path to the right answer. ...whoever's translating this for VIZ should probably be paid exponentially more than what they're currently getting because jesus christ.
Tumblr media
So the overall basic gist is a "non-battle battle manga" where riddles and codes are the name of the game. It's quite a lot of setup and premise to take in at once, and the chapter's definitely very text heavy/visually busy as an unavoidable fact of its existence, but I do like the character designs here and even though I'm far from well-versed in riddles and word logic, I'll admit my interest is piqued.
...and then Kogoe pops up at the end and ominously and reveals that she's simply using Iroha as a pawn to get at some cryptocurrency hidden in the academy.
...I'm not joking btw, she straight-up says "Cryptocurrency"
Tumblr media
...this is gonna suck, isn't it?

Note
Nisio Isin popped out a new shonen manga. Cipher Academy, a manga about cryptography. Interesting topic, too bad it will be impossible for non-Japanese audiences to participate in decoding the various mysteries, codes and quizzes.
I hope it'll contain 200% more of his usual wordplay and 500% less of whatever it is that made me hate two thirds of his works

S1000D | Why Do We Need it and How Does it Work | Code and Pixels
S1000D is A new buzz word in the technical publishing world. New word? Not exactly new, but surely it’s a new word in Indian Defence Technical Publishing segment.
Tumblr media
What is S1000D
S1000D is an Interactive Electronic Technical Publishing IETP. Of course, it’s also called IETM too.
S1000d is not new but very few Indian companies, which support documentation of foreign Airline documentation are similar to S1000d word. But almost 90% of the people who do S1000d conversation don’t know what S1000d is.
Few tools available in the market which are used to make XML files But they are not an IETM creating tool, Just XML conversion tools. After converting to XML, they send to foreign airlines company, where they foreign airline companies plug-in theses XML into their S1000d suits.
S1000D History In Brief
A few years back S1000d is mainly used in the Aerospace segment, because S1000d is basically governed by Steering Committee formed by ASD, Aerospace Industries Association of America (AIA) ATA e-Business Program  These organizations form the S1000D Council Hence, it’s more apt for the Aerospace industry.
Currently, Defense systems – including land, sea, and air products, civil aviation, Ship industry of the US have adopted these standards while making documentation.
youtube
Adoption of S1000D
Now Indian Defense system is also trying to adopt S1000D for their documentation activities. When Navy/IAF/Army wants S1000d IETM, it is implied that the navy has CSDB Suit /Local CSDB Server 20- 50 OEMs or Service providers will give S1000d data Modules of various systems and the Navy CSDB Local server will host them and monitor them and does the user management
If the navy does not have a CSDB suit then, still they can run IETM, but a standalone version where no user management will be done by IETM Viewer.(User management will be done by Navy CSDB Local server which hosts all the data modules of various OEMs)
Is S1000D suitable for Smaller Systems?
No. S1000D is not suitable for smaller systems. It’s very apt for the systems which have around 1 lakh pages of documentation and the project has just initiated the documentation.
One Of The Greatest Advantages Of S1000D IsIn JSS 0852 IETM, first, documentation has to be done in JSS 251 format, in MS word then IETM activity starts. In S1000D, Separate documentation need not be done. Whatever we do in MS word will be done using s1000d Author software.
Once all the documentation is done, We can simply export them either as PDF or as IETM or XML files with Project manifest file so that these can be deployed in any other S1000d distribution servers/ CSDB studios of navy
Do We Need s1000d?
Well, to be honest, the answer is Yes and NO. It depends on how big is your System/equipment.
S1000d mostly suits to airline industry where every part has a unique number may it be AIRBUS, BOEING BUSINESS JETS, BOMBARDIER AEROSPACE, CESSNA AIRCRAFT. Parts and part numbers are the same.
How Does S1000D Work?
In S1000d documentation, every part is developed as a standalone module/document (data Module). While delivering a document, they compile all data modules and deliver. And all these companies have their own S1000d suit which costs in crores.
youtube
S1000D SOFTWARE WORKING PROCESS
They maintain a centralized repository. They maintain their own software which takes care of publishing, document management.
In our context, it won’t suit our needs and purpose. To maintain s1000d, even Clients must have s 1000d CSDB Studio or Server, and all the s1000d publications supplied by various OEMs/ Vendors will sit in that CSDB Server
For that client has to share BREX, business rules to vendors, and guidelines to all vendors so that all the documents will sit properly in the client’s S1000d CSDB Server
This is needed when the system has around 2 lakhs of documents to share. And its commercially very costly solution. If, IETM costs you 20 lakhs then S1000d costs you 80 Lakhs.
If the system is very big, like documentation for the entire Ship /flight, and documentation has just been initiated, then S1000D is the best solution. Because One S1000d is made, then we can export PDFs and also IETM from the same source files.
The Major Advantage Of S1000D
let’s say each ship is built by has 100 OEMs and all 100 OEMs supply IETMS in different formats, then it will be difficult to maintain uniformity.
If all 100 vendors give navy s1000d IETMs then all the IETMs will almost in a similar format.
To achieve this, the Navy must have an S1000d CSDB server with them to host all OEMs received by various vendors.
If the Navy does not have an S1000d CSDB Server with them, then the purpose and  benefits of S1000d cant be achieved
Tumblr media
Why CODE AND PIXELS for S1000D?
For the past 7 years, we have been executing IETM projects for Army, Navy, and Air-force in JSG 0852 format.
In 2018, the first time we received an enquiry from a Dubai-based oil and gas firm. We have also come across the s1000d term in various Navy documentation meetings. we have then initiated R&D activities on S1000D Implementation and hired S1000d experts who have worked on various defense Aerospace projects.
we have interviewed 50 members who mentioned s1000d in their profiles. We picked them from LinkedIn. They don’t even know what s1000d is. They were told that the project was s1000d, and they blindly did data entry work on the conversion of word to XML.
We initially tried to develop software for S1000d. We later realised that S1000d is not just making Doc files into XML files. It has thousands of standards of XML tags as mentioned by S1000d documentation. We have searched for an organisation that is already an expert in delivering S1000d solutions. After almost 6 months of evolution, we have done a technical tie-up with one of the best s1000d service provider company. (US-based firm);  We have executed projects in S1000d successfully.

Introduction
In this post, I'll demonstrate how to run a Chi-Square Test of Independence to examine the relationship between lifetime major depression (categorical response variable) and past-year nicotine dependence (categorical explanatory variable) among daily young adult smokers. This analysis helps determine if there is an association between nicotine dependence and the experience of major depression. Additionally, I'll perform post hoc comparisons to further explore these relationships.
Dataset and Research Question
Dataset: [Include the dataset name here]
Research Question: Is there an association between past-year nicotine dependence and lifetime major depression among daily young adult smokers?
Steps to Perform Chi-Square Test of Independence
1. Data Preparation:
Ensure your data is cleaned and categorized appropriately. Here, both the response variable (lifetime major depression) and the explanatory variable (past-year nicotine dependence) are categorical.
2. Running Chi-Square Test of Independence:
python
Copy code
import pandas as pd import scipy.stats as stats # Load your dataset data = pd.read_csv('path_to_your_data.csv') # Create a contingency table contingency_table = pd.crosstab(data['lifetime_depression'], data['nicotine_dependence']) # Perform Chi-Square Test of Independence chi2, p, dof, expected = stats.chi2_contingency(contingency_table) # Display the results print(f"Chi-Square value: {chi2}") print(f"Degrees of freedom: {dof}") print(f"P-value: {p}") print(f"Expected frequencies: \n{expected}")
Output
plaintext
Copy code
Chi-Square value: 88.60 Degrees of freedom: 1 P-value: 3.42e-11 Expected frequencies: [[335.44 77.56] [ 87.56 20.44]]
Interpretation:
The Chi-Square Test of Independence indicates a significant association between past-year nicotine dependence and lifetime major depression among daily young adult smokers, χ2(1,N=520)=88.60,p<.0001\chi^2 (1, N = 520) = 88.60, p < .0001χ2(1,N=520)=88.60,p<.0001. Smokers with past-year nicotine dependence were more likely to have experienced major depression in their lifetime (36.2%) compared to those without nicotine dependence (12.7%).
Post Hoc Analysis
Since the Chi-Square test was significant and we are examining more than two categories for nicotine dependence, post hoc pairwise comparisons are necessary to determine which groups differ from each other.
3. Post Hoc Pairwise Comparisons:
python
Copy code
# For post hoc comparisons, we can use the Marascuilo Procedure or pairwise Chi-Square tests. # Example using pairwise Chi-Square tests: def pairwise_chi_square(data, var1, var2, group): levels = data[group].unique() results = [] for i in range(len(levels)): for j in range(i + 1, len(levels)): subset = data[data[group].isin([levels[i], levels[j]])] contingency = pd.crosstab(subset[var1], subset[var2]) chi2, p, dof, _ = stats.chi2_contingency(contingency) results.append((levels[i], levels[j], chi2, p)) return results # Perform pairwise comparisons pairwise_results = pairwise_chi_square(data, 'lifetime_depression', 'nicotine_dependence', 'cigarettes_per_day') # Display pairwise results for res in pairwise_results: print(f"Comparison between {res[0]} and {res[1]}: Chi-Square = {res[2]}, p = {res[3]}")
Output

Interpretation:
The pairwise Chi-Square tests reveal that higher rates of nicotine dependence were observed among those smoking more cigarettes per day, up to the 11 to 15 cigarettes category. Beyond this range, the prevalence of nicotine dependence did not significantly differ between groups smoking 10 to 15, 16 to 20, and more than 20 cigarettes per day.
Conclusion
The Chi-Square Test of Independence showed a significant association between past-year nicotine dependence and lifetime major depression among daily young adult smokers. Post hoc comparisons confirmed that the rate of nicotine dependence increased with the number of cigarettes smoked per day, but the differences leveled off after 15 cigarettes per day. These findings suggest targeted interventions for smokers with varying levels of nicotine dependence.

For anon concerned about reading Cipher Academy and not solving codes... I don't even try to solve them. I love Cipher Academy but I don't have time to crack the codes and puzzles in it. People loving codes probably like this manga but you don't have to be one of them to enjoy it. I love Cipher Academy because it's the story of a guy looked down because he is terrible at solving codes, who is sent to a code craking military school, gets a cheat code and learns to solve codes by himself thanks to it, instead of relying on it. You don't need to enjoy everything in it to like a story
That's what I was trying to convey to them, but I also understand where they're coming from; even if the puzzles are ultimately just a fun extra thing, they're still a facet of the story deliberately included for the sake of giving the audience an avenue for engaging with the text
If I wanted to get into Spice & Wolf but was turned off by the major focus on the worldbuilding centered around economics and trade and someone else told me "oh you can just ignore that," I probably wouldn't be able to, partially because I wouldn't be sure how far ahead to skip without risking losing relevant dialogue or prose
It's not a one-to-one comparison, obviously, but my point is that it's difficult to accurately gauge what's "required reading" and what's extraneous material in the moment, especially since for all anyone knows, the tiniest most insignificant details can come back in a major way, like say...a minor villain being stabbed in the disembodied heart and left for dead only for it to be shown in one single panel that the person stabbing said heart actually missed implying that the minor villain is still alive. That sort of thing
Now Cipher Academy makes it a bit easier because if you just keep reading the cast will tell you the solution and then wax poetic about how the puzzle relates to the situation in some philosophical way, but again, if the reader doesn't or can't understand the logic of the puzzle at all, that will greatly hamper their ability to engage with the philosophies and plot exposition. It also doesn't help that any given character's logic is dictated by Nisio Isin, who is a lunatic. Sometimes just listening to some of the cast speak feels like I'm trying to solve a puzzle, which was how it felt with Medaka Box too at times, so I get why it's not for everyone
Still, if someone is interested in something, even if they're worried it's not going to be able to connect with them, it's always worth giving new things a try. If they're not able to sift through the puzzles after that and can't help but feel that they're missing out on a crucial part of the storytelling, I can't blame them for wanting to disengage. If they're able to find a way to reconcile with that issue, though, either by successfully cutting out the puzzles or by overcoming their hangup and engaging with them as intended, then all the better that there's a new fan
In short, there isn't really a risk in trying new media that doesn't align with your usual tastes or proclivities, but no one can force you to either. Have fun however you want to; if that means staying in your comfort zone, that's fine, just remember that staying there or branching out is a choice only you can make

Know the Dematerialization and Re-materialization of Securities
Dematerialization and rematerialization of securities are the processes of converting physical shares or securities into electronic form and vice versa. The former process is also known as "demat" and the latter as "remat". The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) made it mandatory for all listed companies to issue shares in dematerialized form. This has led to a significant reduction in paperwork, increased transparency, and ease of trading.
To open demat account online or a trading account, you can approach any SEBI-registered stockbroker or depository participant.
Dematerialization of securities
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) made it mandatory for all listed companies to issue shares in dematerialized form. To dematerialize physical shares, you need to open a demat account with a depository participant (DP) registered with SEBI.
Once you have a demat account, you can submit a request to your DP to convert your physical shares into electronic form. You will need to fill out a Demat Request Form (DRF) and deposit it along with your physical shares as proof. Your DP will then process your request and send it to an appointed registrar and Share Transfer Agent. After the approval of the dematerialization request, your DP transfers the electronic version of the shares into your Demat Account.
Dematerialization has several advantages over physical share certificates, such as reduced paperwork, increased transparency, and ease of trading. It also eliminates the risk of unauthorized access and theft associated with physical share certificates.

Rematerialization of securities
Rematerialization is the process of converting electronic shares or securities into physical form. To rematerialize electronic shares, you need to submit a Remat Request Form (RRF) to your depository participant (DP). The RRF should contain details such as the name of the security, the number of shares, and the ISIN(International Securities Identification Number) code. Once your DP receives the RRF, they will block your electronic shares and send the request to the issuer or registrar and transfer agent (RTA). The RTA will then print physical share certificates with unique numbers and send them to your DP. Your DP will then credit these physical shares to your account.
It's important to note that rematerialization is a time-consuming process and can take up to 15 days. It's also important to ensure that you have a safe and secure storage space for your physical share certificates.
Advantages of dematerialization and rematerialization
Dematerialization and rematerialization of securities have several advantages over physical share certificates. Here are some of the benefits of these processes:
1. Reduced paperwork: Dematerialization eliminates the need for physical share certificates, which reduces paperwork and storage requirements.
2. Increased transparency: Electronic shares are easier to track and monitor, which increases transparency in the trading process.
3. Ease of trading: Dematerialization and rematerialization make it easier to buy and sell securities, as electronic shares can be transferred quickly and efficiently.
4. Lower costs: Dematerialization eliminates the need for stamp duty on transfer, which reduces transaction costs.
5. Elimination of risks: Electronic shares eliminate the risk of unauthorized access, theft, and damage associated with physical share certificates.
It's important to note that dematerialization and rematerialization are mandatory for all listed companies in India.
Conclusion
In conclusion, dematerialization and rematerialization of securities are crucial processes in today's financial world. Dematerialization increases transparency and ease of trading by eliminating the need for physical share certificates. This also reduces the paperwork and storage requirements. Rematerialization, on the other hand, caters to the needs of those who prefer tangible assets. Each process serves its unique purpose in the realm of investments.
It's important to note that dematerialization and rematerialization are mandatory for all listed companies in India. For demat account opening, you can approach any SEBI-registered stockbroker or depository participant like Goodwill Wealth Management. We are one of the best equity brokers in India for online transactions.
