Finding out that S/O was previously suicidal
Tumblr media
[ SCENARIO ] [ Shouko, Ishida ]
[ A silent voice / Koe no Katachi ]
Tumblr media
I had read something like this in the past and I absolutely loved it!! This kind of things had helped me a lot in the past so i really hope i'm able to help someone else with this!
Tumblr media
Shouko Nishimiya
Even for being in a relationship with Shouko she normally doesn't pry for personal details about you, she won't force you to talk about things you don't want to talk about or things about your past, she prefers that if you to tell her something personal is because you feel comfortable enough to do so (and she does the same), she may just be a little pushy when it comes to problems that are bothering you in the present but aside from that she doesn't insist much
Shouko suffer from a really bad self-steem, blaming herself from a lot of things due her condition, and she had wanted to die for a long time (probably all her life), however she slowly wins more things that make things worthy to stay and continue trying, one of those things is you
Shouko may probably tell you about how she have those suicidal thoughts (or even if she doesn't have it anymore) at some point, it probably take her a while since she probably fears your reaction (not that she doesn't trust you, she just doesn't want to bother you or you to be worried over her), but it would take her even more time if she already had her suicidal attempt since in that moment she had caused even more troubles
If you open up before her it would be easier for her to tell you. When you open up to her about it she will be pretty nervous by seeing you so serious or even nervous, while you start telling her about it she will probably get the idea of what you are meaning if you don't say it directly but at the same time she doesn't want to assume
When you tell her she is between not being sure of what to tell you and wanting for you to feel free to tell her all you need and vent, she will try to comfort you by saying that she understand you and is more probably that in that moment is when she open up too (if she already told you about it she will just remind you of that). Even if you don't feel bad or insecure about it she still wants to reasure you that is okay, she understand and that you aren't alone
Shouko is really happy to have you in her life, you had become so special for her that she is even grateful to have you in her life and that is something that she repeat to herself constantly because it makes her happy, and now, because she knows that once in the past you wished to be dead she tells you from time to time how happy she is that you are still here and that she is grateful to have you in her life (even when saying it out loud make her really flustered)
Tumblr media
Shoya Ishida
It will take a while to get into a relationship with Ishida because he doesn't know much what he is supoused to do or say, but it isn't imposible. When it finally happens that you two start dating Ishida is really curious about you, he wants to know more and more about you sincerely (even before start dating) but he doesn't know if it is right for him to ask or if he is being rude by asking, so he tries to either don't even ask or do it indirectly
From his part, Ishida had been suffering from suicidal ideation for a long time and he was about to do it if it wasn't because he get the opportunity to try and make it up for his past mistakes, he knows really well what is like wanting or even thinking that it would be better if you die. Although is more probably that he won't talk about it once you two are together, even since you were friends he tried his best to be a good friend even when he didn't know what that was supoused to mean
If he ever tells you about it is because you two are having a heart to heart talk and it just slips his lips while telling you about his past, otherwise is more probably that he won't tell you about it (or at least not first)
In the case that you are the first one saying it, either because you want to say him directly or because you feel comfortable enough to tell him, Ishida will be completely shocked by it, it never crossed his mind that you will ever wish death, he was a terrible person in the past and he thought that he deserved to die, but you? In his eyes you are nothing but an amazing person and he doesn't see why, he may say it without thinking much on it but will apologize
Ishida wants to know more about it, if you let him of course, he wants to know from where it came this feeling and is more likely that he will share his own feelings about it and admit that he wanted to be dead once too
He may not tell you right away in that moment, or just say it like a simple comment, but later while thinking on it Ishida will relice how important you are to him and how greatful he is to have you in his life (even if sometimes he feels like he doesn't deserve you), so he plans to express it to you the next time he had the opportunity, even thanking you for not giving up in life because that way you two were able to meet, probably end up being a flustered mess but he really wanted to let you to know

a silent voice (2016)
Tumblr media
The beauty of A Silent Voice has to be it's characters. Every single character had flaws and dimension, and it shows through the smallest of details. Everyone feels real and human, and that's what makes this movie spectacular. What really brought me to this conclusion was the scene at the bridge where Ishida is consumed with guilt from his past and he picks off everyone from the group by targeting exactly what will make them hurt. One by one, you are introduced to their ugly sides. Even the characters you barely met show so much depth, and it makes the scene so impactful because you realize how observant Ishida is.
I feel like in most media, bullying is pretty black and white. Usually, we don't see the kind of complexity that the film brings. Usually, the bullying seems to magically stop as soon as the main character puts their foot down, or retaliates in some way. And sure, sometimes we do explore the bullies and their home lives, and realize that they may struggle with issues too. Hurt people hurt people and whatnot.
Tumblr media
A Silent Voice takes everything a step further. We are shown past the ending, where the bully - SINGULAR - seems to get what he deserves. He's outed and punished. But wait, there's like the rest of the movie left? That's when I was hooked. We see that Ishida was not the only one that should have been blamed. While Nishimiya was getting harassed, it was the people that watched and said nothing that were just as culpable. Heck, even the teacher was just as bad, and only spoke up when Ishida presented himself as a scapegoat. The real conclusion is that bullying is a failure of everyone around the victim. A collective failure of the community was allowing Nishimiya to tolerate abuse after abuse.
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed the visual of how Ishida views people, with X's over their faces. His point of view where he avoids people's eyes and tends to look off to the side was unsettling, because you realize this is how he lives, cutting everyone off in order to stew in the guilt he's been feeling for all these years. He lives denying himself any self respect or acceptance, and prefers to blame himself for what happened in the past. Nishimiya already forgave him in the beginning, but it was time for Ishida to forgive himself; a powerful message in this anime. It was only when he could forgive himself that the X's of those around him fell, which I think is really beautiful. Self acceptance didn't come externally, but internally.
There is so much more to this movie, but overall it is so fantastic with it's character work and stunning animation.

A Silent Voice its an anime movie based on a manga of the same name that, while many might look it like a romance movie, its mostly about redemption, overcoming trauma and social anxiety, facing and living with your past, and the true meaning of friendship.
I was impressed with how they handled the trauma and agnst parts to the point that they are relatable and make the characters feel human and realistic especially from the trauma victim's point, like how Shoya looked at everyone with an X on their faces. And i found the sign language interesting, even if its the japanese sign language.
The hardest parts for me to watch were the bullying scenes, who am i kidding no one likes to see a child go through that, even in movies. And some kids can be that cruel in real life too, and i know because i have an aunt and uncle who were teachers and were relieved when they retired since let me tell you their students were the hardest to handle, one even stabed my aunt in the hand with a pencil.
And it also bothers me that the teacher didnt even did something to stop the bullying almost as if he didnt notice or wasnt part of his job, it even reminded me of the middle school teacher of Izuku Midoriya from MHA, only that there it was a bit worse.
The thing that hooked me in my mind the most was the friendship part of the film. Especially the former friendship between Shoya Ishida, Kazuki Shimada, and Keisuke Hirose. These three were the balanced trio: the Daredevil, The Carefree guy, and the Comic Relief. And were the main bullies of Shoko Nishimiya. But then things took a twist when Shoko's bullying was brought up by the teacher and the people who Ishida thought of as his best friends put the blame on him in order to save themselves from punishment due to apathy, cowardice and fear, and acted as if they were never his friends to the point that they even bullied him and turned him into a complete outcast and loner, with Kazuki being his main bully, in fact he makes the most appearances than Hirose. This character hooked me the most, who knew a star student and carefree guy could turn out to be so cold, cruel and blind to his faults, like in his mind he didnt do anything wrong. Talk about trials and bad situations showing someone's true colors. From my pov, the bullying he and Hirose put Ishida through was even worse than the one Shoko went through. And even in Middle School he still made his life difficult by telling everyone of his bullying and left him with absolutely no friends at all, making him drown even more in his trauma, loneliness, and guilt over his past actions and their consequences.
It also made him wonder what friendship even was because he didnt know what that was anymore after he lost all hope of reconnecting with his old friends. He explained that he only understood them because they always did what he thought they would and wanted them to do, but after that and his changed thoughts and feelings he doenst even understand them anymore, especially after learning from Naoka that they rescued him from the river but only because it was the right thing to do rather than wanting to make up with him, especially because they didnt seem to change after that and even told Naoka to not tell Ishida and mind her own business.
Naoka is what many would say "the love rival" in this film due to her one sided love for Ishida and jealousy towards Shoko and seeing her as a threat to her feelings for him, even putting the blame of what happened to him on her and that if she had never rattled them out or even went to their school Ishida wouldnt have gone through that hell and lost his friends. They called it one sided because of her feelings towards him but without considering his feelings and choices and doing stuff more out of her own benefit and self guilt for what she did in Elementary school. Especially her desire for things to being back to what they were before, mostly Ishida's old friendships due to her (failed) attempts to try to make them meet up and reconciliate.
Honestly i admire her hope for those three making amends, but just like Ishida learned to face and be at peace with his past, she needs to learn and accept that things will never be like they were before and that some relationships cant easily or never be mended by "locking two people in a room". She cant rush or force those three to be friends again by setting encounters between them, this is a step they need to take on their own choice and will, and if they are even willing to make amends and are willing to change or not, just like she "forced" herself to change and made a peace truce with Shoko. And also follow the "advice" Shimada gave her to "mind her own business" because in a way their issues and broken relationship aren't something she should meddle with even if she only wants help, and he told her the same when he told her to keep quiet about them saving Ishida from the river so neither she got her (false) hopes too high or Ishida getting the wrong idea. Some people and things just never change.
While the films ends in the Cultural Festival and doesnt include the film arc, the manga shows what happened after that and ends in chapter 62 at the time for the Coming of Age Ceremony which its like a school reunion convention, and ends just as Ishida and Nishimiya open the door to their elementary school reunion ready to face their painful past , which may includ etheir old classmates and possibly teachers, together as equals. We dont know how that might had turned out, fans can only imagine what could had happened, the most probable, if the classmates had matured or moved on/ forgotten the past or not, that everyone could have stared at them for a moment in a bit of shock before minding their own business with their friends and family and maybe get a few stares or whispers or just being ignored. We dont know if he encountered or interacted with Kazuki( if he managed to come from studying in France and Ishida even asked for his email t see if he would come so he could talk to him) or Hirose, whom we saw a glimpse of him entering the room with his wife and child and whom we dont know much about due to his few appearances in the story (honestly i think he has more chances of having matured and changed than Kazuki and who knows if the river accident did affected him somehow) or if they are even worthy of his forgiveness, but even if he manages to confront, talk, and make peace with them or not its ok, because he gained even much more true friends than the ones he lost and wont have to worry of confronting his past and the challenges ahead by himself and living a lonely life ever again. And after a long timw since elementary school, he finally found peace, happiness, and love.

A Silent Voice
Tumblr media
A Silent Voice has been on my “To Be Watched” list for a while now, so I’m glad I was able to watch this movie. With that being said, the emotional trauma in this movie is truly disheartening. The movie centers around two characters, Shouko Nishimiya & Shoya Ishida, who go through tumultuous situations starting in their adolescent years of elementary school. Shouko is a victim of bullying due to others making fun of her for being deaf and having a notebook to communicate with those who are hearing. Shoya was one of the bullies that terrorized Shouko as well about her being deaf, until he was forced to admit he was a bully in front of the classroom. Thus, the tables turned and he was being bullied by his so-called “friends”, which ultimately leads to Shoya isolating himself from others as he continues into high school. These examples really play into the portrayal of discrimination and isolation because we see how unfairly Shouko is treated when the other children make snide remarks and rude gestures towards her. Even though Shouko tries so hard to make friends, the children always find some kind of way to dismiss themselves or take advantage of her to do spiteful things like taking her hearing aids. Shouko is a victim of isolation due to the discriminatory actions done to her that ultimately lead to her transferring schools. With Shoya, after he’s ratted out for being Shouka’s bully and admits to the teacher about other contributors, he is also bullied. As a result, we see Shoya’s mental health decline as he tried to commit suicide and he has no friends. Something I found interesting about Shoya, though, is that after his bullies sabotaged any social life he wanted to have, Shoya became so used to the isolation that he literally blocks people’s faces with X’s since he’s not used to others' company and eye contact unless he grows closer to them. For instance, with Naoka at first she didn’t have an X over her face, but after she showed her true colors (which were still ugly and bitter), Shoya put an X over her face. As the movie goes on, we see more painful thoughts and feelings come to the light like jealousy, self-doubt, guilt, and anguish. With these revelations though, especially between Shoya and Shouka, there is a new desire to appreciate life and live. A Silent Voice has a beautiful art style that beautifully showcases the darkness about life while showing the “light at the end of the tunnel” aspect of continuing to live.

Blog Post — A Silent Voice
A Silent Voice is an anime that tells a touching story about abuse, forgiveness, and finding peace within yourself. Directed by Naoko Yamada and produced by Kyoto Animation, the film follows Shoya Ishida, a boy who bullies a mute girl named Shoko Nishimiya when they are in elementary school. Years later, Shoya tries to make amends for his past.
Bullying is a serious problem in Japan, known as "ijime," and can have a profound effect on both victims and bullies. A quiet tone of voice shows how bullying can leave deep scars, as seen with Shoya, who feels guilty and isolated because of his past actions. This is not unique to Japan; Bullying happens everywhere, making the film’s message global. The film also highlights the challenges people with disabilities like Shoko have and the importance of empathy and inclusion.
Watching A Silent Voice made me reflect on my life. The way Shoya struggles with social anxiety and guilt reminded me of times when I felt isolated or regretted my actions. The film’s use of visual metaphors, such as the use of X in people’s faces, perfectly captures Shoya’s sense of disconnectedness. It made me realize the importance of apologizing and trying to make things right, even when it’s hard.
The themes in A Silent Voice are related to broader concepts of abuse and mental illness. The film’s focus on social exclusion and the journey towards healing can be related to the study of how depression affects personal growth. In addition, the emphasis on verbal and nonverbal communication highlights the importance of understanding and empathy in overcoming social barriers.
Silent Voices is a powerful film about important issues like bullying, redemption, and social anxiety. His story makes sense not only for Japan but for the rest of the world. By following the characters’ journeys, the film encourages viewers to reflect on their actions and strive for a more compassionate and inclusive society.

How do Shouko Nishimiya, Satou Matsuzaka, Naoko Kirino, Shoya Ishida, Yuzuru react to S/O kissing them on the forehead?
S/O kissing them in the forehead
Tumblr media
[ HEADCANONS ] [ Shouko, Ishida, Yuzuru, Satou, Naoko ]
[ A silent voice ] [ Happy Sugar Life ] [ Pumpkin Night ]
Tumblr media
I've always thought that forehead kisses are so sweet, I love them a lot ❤️
chu 😙💕
Tumblr media
Shouko Nishimiya
Shoujo is so used to be treaten really bad for everyone aside from his sister and grandmother that it would take her a while to get used to the affection you treat her with
Besides she is pretty shy so it would have to be little by little, as much as she loves the affection you treat her with it makes her flustered and overwhelmed
And she isn't going to ask for it, Shouko is too shy to do it and sometimes she can't help but feel like a burden, so she will either just don't do anything or shyly do small things, such as stepping close to you so your hands/arms rub against each other or gently hold onto you from your clothes
Also, she prefers slowly and gentle gestures, since is completely opposite at how harsh she had been treated and it makes her feel safe and loved
Kisses are complety a new thing for her, although is probably that her grandmother had kissed her on the forehead or cheek is all, and thinking on kissing you is almost imposible for her shyness
The moment you give her a kiss on the forehead she is shocked and just stare at you while an inmense blush start to grow in her face, she gets so nervous and unable to look at you directly after a moment, she tries to say something but she doesn't even can form a sentence, at the end she just cover her face and get close to you, like asking for you to hide her from the rest of the world
If you do it to comfort her her reaction won't be too different, but in this case she will start to cry a little
Tumblr media
Shoya Ishida
Ishida isn't used to kindness outside of his family and for a long time he thought that he didn't deserve it either for what he had done in the past to Nishimiya
When he start a relationship with you you he is overwhelmed by the happiness but at the same time with anxiety too, he is so nervous to do something that will upset you that he can't bring himself to be affectionate, and every time you do get affectionate he gets really shy and flustered
With some time he start to get used to it but still have to be a slowly process because he is easy to get anxious and doubt himself, going for a while with just small touches like holding hands to reach to hugs and maybe cuddles
He is already really shy so when it come to get more intimate, even just a little makes his so nervous so to even think on kissing you without becoming a flustered mess will take a long time, so a small and gentle kiss in his forehead is a good start, and even so when you do it he gets really shocked
If you do it out of the blue while you two were hanging out he will get super nervous and even start stuttering, looking at everything like searching an excuse while blushing like crazy, but if you do it when the atmosphere is calmer, like you two were relaxing or even you were comforting him for something he will stare at you for a moment before lean on you and snuggle, he isn't too brave to kiss you right now but he really liked the kiss
Tumblr media
Yuzuru Nishimiya
Yuzuru isn't exactly shy but she isn't the affectionate type either, she isn't so used to the physical affection so she just shows her love in other ways
However if you are affectionate she wont mind it too much, it would take her some time to get used to and to reciprocate but she will (but it bother her a little if you are too clingy or invasive with her)
She isn't really into pda and she prefers to cuddle you when you two are alone, still she won't get shy with small gestures, but she gets flustered and will try to take revenge by teasing you and try to make you the flustered one (or either try to just brush it off and continue with whatever she was doing)
Kisses are a whole different thing, is more intimate and direct so it would take her a while to accept them (not until she feels totally comfortable), even more to give them, kisses actually make her shy even the ones on the cheek
Forehead kisses is a rather sweet and inocent gesture and she will be super confused the first time you do it before getting really flustered, and depending on when you do it she will either just look away flustered if you do it while cuddling or while comforting her, or call you out for treating her like a child (since forehead kisses are common to give them to children) if you do it out of the blue while hanging out
Maybe soft and gentle gestures aren't his favorites, prefering them mainly when she seeks for comfort, but she will end up liking forehead kisses a lot (but she will never say it out loud
Tumblr media
Satou Matsuzaka
Satou is always open with the love she holds for her partner, she isn't shy at all and she always wants to be by your side
Also, Satou always melt in any kind of affection you give her, no matter if is an small kiss or a cuddle sesion, don't even if you just express your love for her with words is always special for her and hold it close to her heart
Although, kisses are more special for her, a kiss is an expression more direct but more sweet and pure too,she loves kisses and she always give it to you with a lot of love
Any time you give her a kiss she melt and just bask on the sweet feeling, it doesn't matter if it was a kiss on the lips or not
The first time you give her a forehead kiss she was surprised, no one really has done that to her before, she stares at you for a moment before getting all flustered and she totally loves it (and may even get emotional for how sweet and cute you are)
Any time you do it she gets blushy, she loves any kind of kiss you give her, and most of the time she respond with a kiss too or with a big and thighly hug
If you do it as a way to comfort her it totally works every single time, if you do it as just a cute expression of love she will get so overwhelmed by the love that she will hold onto you and won't let you go for a long time
Tumblr media
Naoko Kirino
Naoko isn't shy at all, she had never been afraid to be herself even when the world seem to be against her, and that goes for you too since she never had problems to show the love she holds for you (but always in her own way)
Although, she isn't going to force you to do something that will make you uncomfortable, so if you prefer to go slowly she slow down for you, but that doesn't stop her from stealing some hugs or kisses from you from time to time
She loves all the affection you give to her, it doesn't matter if is an small gesture or one more big it always make her feel so excited and fuzzy inside, it gives her a bust of energy and most of the time she ends up getting pretty clingy after
She likes kisses and have no problem with give them, but it isn't like is nothing for her becouse it actually means a lot, for her a kiss is a big expression of love, specially on the lips (and she prefers those)
A forehead kiss is a rather inocent gesture, so in the moment you give it to her she gets quiet and take a moment to proces what you did, she is taking time to appreciate the cute gesture and the excitement slowly grows on her
She will get really excited by it as always, but since this is pretty cute and inocent she will be teasing you about it for a while, and she will return the gesture too (after the teasing), in the case you had did it to comfort her it totally works but she doesn't get excited, instead she gets emotional and will cuddle you for a while unable to stop smiling

Little Things #10: A Silent Voice
I heard that the anime movie A Silent Voice is a sad story and that I should prepare some tissues in advance. I did not cry (almost), but I was definitely not prepared. At first, I thought the movie would be the typical movie plot where a child fights against their bullies. It was completely the opposite, the bullied child, Shoko Nishimiya, instead tries to understand her bullies and attempts to befriend them, despite her disability (hard of hearing) placing limitations on her. Personally, I would never wish to befriend my bullies but nonetheless talk to them at all. When I watched Shoko take all the blame for the misfortunes in other bullies' lives I became so angry because why should she feel bad for their mistakes? They got themselves into this mess in the first place and they deserved what was coming for them. I am not nearly as forgiving as her, and I was overall shocked by how something as simple as her persistence in reconciliation with her old classmates, was satisfied and managed to find peace and healing even in her personal traumas. I know that her trauma chains her down and restrains her ability to rise above her self-doubt, but I am proud that she was able to overcome her self-inflected punishments and move on.
On the other hand, I hate how the movie made me sympathize with one of the main bullies, Shoya Ishida. Why does he get a redemption arc? Why does he begin to feel genuine remorse for his actions in the past and try to reconcile with Shoko? Why can't he just be a normal bully... As he matured he became more soft-spoken and simply lived to survive and make up for his past mistakes. Due to this and being outed by his peers from the past for being the "only" bully to Shoko, he reflected a model of what people who are in the same shoes as him could experience in extreme periods of regret. He voluntarily withdrew himself from his peers in high school since he felt that he didn't deserve happiness or friends after what he had done and realized through reflection that his middle school friend group are trash people. What got me though was at the end of the movie when Shoya started to face his trauma of being ostracized and targeted and realized that he had his own self-worth. The X's on the background characters' faces in the scene had fallen and then their voices were again restored. I found that really touching and tugged some heartstrings.
