Jaune: Uh you feeling okay? I mean I'm always been young. And how do you know my name?

Ruby: Jaune stop kidding around! What happened to me after I drunk the tea? Are we still in the ever after? And where is that fu***** Cat!?

Jaune: W-wait a moment. Tea? Ever after? And what Cat are we talking about?

The only thing I can answer is that we're in Beacon and I actually just enroll here so I can't tell you about this place. I'm sorry.

Ruby: You just enroll here... But that's impossible. Beacon is gone...

No way... T-this is impossible. Where - I mean, when are we?

Jaune: Okay... I think you might hit your head a little too hard after that explosion. Don't worry I will help you find the academy infirmary. Oh I know you already know my name but let me introduce myself anyway. My name is Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls of the tongue....

Ruby: Ladies loves it...

Jaune: Uh... Have we met somewhere before?

Ruby: .... No. I'm sorry but I think I really did hurt my head so bad. I'm Ruby by the way. (*grabs Jaune's hand*)

Jaune: (*pulls Ruby up*) Then we better find the infirmary. To have you checked.

Ruby: Oh no, please there's no need. As you can see I'm completely fine now. I'm just a bit dazed after the dust explosion... Me being a dumb "Crater Face" and all. 😋

Jaune: You shouldn't called yourself "Crater Face." That would have been if I called myself "Vomit Boy" because I pu... Oh! You were at the Bullhead when I puked all over the ship! I'm so sorry for puking next to you.

Ruby: Oh you don't have to apologize. Motion sickness after all is a lot more common than we realize. 😊

Jaune: I know right! I can't believe there's no motion sickness pill inside the Bullhead. That's just asking for trouble if you ask me. I'm surprised that there isn't more people puking on the ship.

Ruby: (He's such a dork😏) Jaune this might seem to come out of nowhere, but do you want to be my friend? 🥺

Jaune: Sure after all stranger are friend you haven't met yet. That's what my mom said anyway.

Ruby: (I knew he would say that. Oh Jaune why did I never have the courage to pursue you back during the Academy.😞) Thank you (*hugs Jaune*) 🥰

Jaune: Oh. Usually I don't mind when a cute girl is hugging me. But isn't it all too fast?

Ruby: (He called me cute!!! I knew it, I knew he likes me! 😫) Didn't you said that stranger are just friend you haven't met? And Jaune you can pat my head if you want. 😘

Jaune: I guess I did say that...

Ruby: Eh, he, he. I'm never letting you go Jaune... (Never...)

Jaune: Oh stop kidding around Ruby. We have to find the rest of students.

Ruby: No need. I know where they are. How about we take our time before we meet the rest of them? There's some place I want to take you to.

Jaune: Uh okay, I mean you seems to know more about this place than me so lead on Ruby.

Ruby: (Yes! I'm finally going to go on a date with Jaune. Don't worry Jaune I will make sure things are right this time. I will make sure you never have to lose anyone ever again. I'll save Pyrrha, Penny and everyone. Maybe I start by killing Cinder first... He, he, he. Oh I can't wait to see the look on that bitch's face as I behead her. Oh and maybe I'll help with Jaune's training too. That way he can be the hero he always wanted and I don't have to be alone. Oh the possibility are endless. 😈)

You woke up to find Vash gone.

"He left?", you asked, still half asleep.

It didn't bother you much, knowing he was the type to leave without saying goodbye. Especially with Nai still looking for him.

I get why but its kinda rude. You think as you start packing up.

The suns were barely starting to rise when you started walking again, wanting to give Kevin a little more time to rest before having to carry you again.

At some point you saw a car pass by.

Is that the reporters? You squint at the car with something hooked up behind it. If I catch up to it I'll be able to tell what episode I'm in.

Hours passed and the suns were high in the sky.

Now riding on the Tomas, you were looking at the map and holding the reigns.

"So if I remember, the moons..", you mumble, looking back and forth between the map and the sky. "Shit."

You were lost.

"Mother fucking-!", you scream in your throat and tighten the hold on the reigns, wanting to throw something. "Great."

Then there's a sound of a car coming from the right.

"Hm?", you look over and see the car stop just a little ways away.

A small group of guys come out of the vehicle, running towards you but staying just a few feet away and point their guns at you.

"Give us everything you got!", one says, you're guessing the 'leader' of this small group.

Are they for real?

"I'm not going to ask again!", the guy says and racks the big gun.

It takes you a while but then you grin like a crazy person.

I finally get to release some pent up anger.

Getting off of Kevin, you walk forward and pull out the weapon you had custom made. The red scythe shines in the sunlight as you unfold the weapon by swinging it open.

"What'll it be boys? I can be your doctor or your torturer."

"Do you know who we are!? We're part of the Bad Lads gang!", one of the ones in the back of the group says.

All you do is let out a creepy laugh.

"Hehe~"

Vash looked out at the sand dunes before him.

He had left the angelic looking person in hopes that they wouldn't get tangled up in his terrible luck and have a safe rest of the journey.

I hope they're doing ok. He thought and looked to the sky.

There was a few vulture bugs flying around.

Before he could try to swat some away from pecking him, he heard footsteps in the sand and voices.

"Ok, so I know he's The Humanoid Typhoon but is he like..a real guy?", a feminine voice asks.

A sigh comes from the other person.

"How have you made it this far?", the voice of an older man.

As the two keep talking the blonde stays still and waits for them to take notice of him hanging upside down.

"Dead ahead.", the older man says, being the one to take notice of the hanged man in red.

"Looks like the work of the Bad Lads gang.", the man continues. "Yeesh, they did a real number on that poor slob."

When one of them walks up, the vulture bugs fly off of him and go onto the piece of metal to rest on instead.

Vash decides to have a bit of fun.

Moving his prosthetic arm, he does a peace sign before letting it drop down, surprising the person. They reach over and hold his hand, the movement making it detach from him.

"Need a hand?", he asks.

"AAAH!", the woman screams out in surprise and tosses the metal arm before running back to their companion.

The vulture bugs fly off and the blonde begins laughing like a mad man as he slowly turns to face the two strangers.

"What a creep.", the small woman in white says.

"You got that right.", the man in the brown suit jacket says and starts walking away. "Let's go."

"DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING FRIENDS!", Vash says in a panic, having been hung up for hours.

"We can't just leave him here.", the little lady says and goes to untie him.

"Appreciated.", Vash says in relief and lets the woman turn him as needed to get the ropes off.

You made it to Jeneora Rock.

After beating the shit out of the group of men, you asked for directions and they were smart enough to listen. Leaving them in a slightly bloody pile on the sand.

Before leaving Lowland, you had taken time to practice shooting and using the scythe. Also having learned how to fight when a few drunks didn't leave you alone or tried to touch you without your concent.

I didn't kill them but I made sure that they regretted it. You smirk and take a sip from your cup of water. I should write to Dr. Thomas.

You were in the "diner", more like a saloon, taking a much needed break from walking around and restocking some needed items.

Kevin was resting at a nearby Tomas stable.

I wonder when the first episode is gonna start. You think as you're going to drink from the cup again.

There's a sound of someone entering but you ignore it, taking a gulp of water.

"Yep! I knew we'd find her here."

And then you hear a familiar voice.

"Pffft-!", you have a spit take and quickly wipe your mouth before looking over at the three characters that just entered.

"Vash! You're here!", the brown haired woman named Rosa says and makes her way over to the man in red.

"Working on baby two Rosa?", the humanoid typhoon asks.

You stare in shock.

I'M IN FUCKING EPISODE ONE!?

And now I rest. At least until I have the energy to write more.

Virtual Reality weapon: The Phantom Ruby

The Phantom Ruby is one of the coolest gizmos in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. This post aims to analyze the properties and history it has demonstrated throughout the series.

Powers

The Phantom Ruby is a mysterious object that first came into Sonic’s world after a sudden dimensional breach in the atmosphere, bringing down with it the entirety of Angel Island and sparking interest from several parties. From the get go, this artifact already demonstrated an unprecedented amount of power the likes of which even Eggman sought to replicate (to varying success).

As Tails explains in Sonic Forces, the Phantom Ruby is able to feed false information to the brain and trap its victims in extremely lifelike illusions that can draw from their own thoughts and imagination. This includes Phantom Copies, which can look and act like pre-existing individuals, albeit without "souls."

Perhaps its most interesting property, however, is its ability to react to the sense of being and will of others. Paralleling the Chaos Emeralds' “power enriched by the heart,” it can be said that the Phantom Ruby possesses "power enriched by the mind." This is perhaps better demonstrated in Sonic Mania, where the Hard Boiled Heavies suffer radical changes to their appearance and mannerisms based on the minds of the animals powering them as a result of exposure to the Phantom Ruby.

This trait of the ruby is explored to its extreme in Sonic Channel's Otherworldly Comedy, where Dr. Eggman engulfs the planet in various illusions that reflect the people's own impression of themselves, erasing their memories and having them live out alternate lives and scenarios until then only possible in their dreams. This is done by utilizing a weapon still charged with the aftermath of the Phantom Ruby’s energy. The doctor also uses a modified leftover prototype to power himself up to a form akin to Super Sonic, being able to manifest alternate worlds in a whim and create Phantom Copies of creatures as powerful as Perfect Chaos, seemingly having no limitations in regards to energy consumption like Infinite did, although it's unclear to what extent this prototype was modified.

History

The Phantom Ruby's first chronological appearance, Sonic Mania, has Tails convince Sonic to go and check the unique energy signature detected in Angel Island that caused it to fall to the ocean. Dr. Eggman, who detected that very same signal, has also deployed his elite Eggrobo squad to retrieve its source. The Hard Boiled Heavies, granted new powers and greater freedom of thought by the Phantom Ruby, attempt to escape with it, and thus begins the adventure to prevent the gemstone from falling in the wrong hands.

After Sonic and friends, who are in possession of the seven Chaos Emeralds, wreck Eggman and his Phantom Egg, a mech designed to make use of the Phantom Ruby's energy, the group is taken to what appears to be a dimensional void created by the ruby. There, Super Sonic gets caught in the middle of the conflict between Eggman, riding his Klepto Mobile, and the Phantom King, who at this point has long since betrayed his maker, both fighting to get ahold of the gemstone. In the end, Sonic leaves victorious, being teleported to the future alongside the Phantom Ruby.

In the aftermath of this battle, the Phantom Ruby winds up in front of one of Eggman's facilities. The doctor begins to study it closely, learning how to make use of its abilities after his base is attacked by the Jackal Squad. He performs his first real test on Angel Island, creating copies of Pachacamac's village and Chaos, god of destruction. Seeing it in action, Robotnik deems the jewel even more powerful than the Master Emerald itself.

Beholding the Phantom Ruby's incredible power, Eggman aims to replicate it. In this pursuit, he manufactures various faulty prototypes in Mystic Jungle until he can finally perfect it, gifting the final product to the new leader of his army, Infinite.

Eventually, six months after taking over the world, Eggman orders Infinite to dispose of those prototypes, seeing as he had no need for such liabilities. The jackal does a poor job, however, leaving a few unattended. One in particular, the one he dropped while fighting Silver in Mystic Jungle, is discovered by the Avatar, whose heroism would prove enough to activate it.

At the climax of the Eggman War, Infinite uses his Phantom Ruby's power to summon an illusionary sun above the battlefield, aiming to wipe out all of the resistance. The Avatar manages to dissipate it, however, losing his own prototype in the process. Weakened from spending much of his energy to create that sun, Infinite tries to take on Sonic who, aided by the Avatar, beats the mercenary one final time. This causes him to lose control of his powers and be pulled into the Eggman Empire Fortress' decoy reactor, ultimately being consumed by the original Phantom Ruby.

After Infinite's defeat, Eggman reveals he has incorporated the Phantom Ruby into his new Death Egg Robot, claiming to have surpassed Infinite as the ultimate form. Just as the Phantom Egg before it, however, this mech is destroyed by Sonic, his classic self and the Avatar, ending the war and sending both the Phantom Ruby and Classic Sonic back to the past.

Classic Sonic, returning from the future after aiding the Resistance in winning the war, is still chasing after the Phantom Ruby. The gemstone falls into the hands of Heavy Magician, who uses it to reassemble her fellow Hard Boiled Heavies. Thus, Sonic is forced to go on his earlier adventure again, though this time accompanied by Mighty and Ray as well.

As Eggman's plan once again fails, he is sucked into a Phantom Ruby portal, presumably finding himself stuck in Egg Reverie Zone. This is the original Phantom Ruby's last appearance, leaving its fate ambiguous.

Meanwhile, back in the future, the modern Dr. Eggman has yet to give up on his Phantom Ruby exploits. Seeing as how he still had a weapon charged with Phantom Ruby energy, the doctor decides to put it to good use and begins another world conquering plot. By covering the entire planet with the Phantom Ruby's energy, he used what Tails calls "cognitive frictional energy" to generate extreme amounts of energy from the discrepancy between the world's original reality and the new reality overwriting it. By absorbing this resulting energy, Eggman created his ultimate weapon, the Egg Field, a mech capable of reshaping the world around it to erase all of his past failures.

Sonic manages to destroy the weapon by turning into Super Sonic, forcing Eggman to transform into "Super Eggman" by making use of his modified Phantom Ruby prototype. The doctor attempts to persuade Sonic by arguing that these fake scenarios cause harm to no one, but the hedgehog refutes this by saying that the thoughts of Earth's denizens should not be forced out of their minds, and to do that would be to inflict suffering upon the planet. Eggman also attempts to create a fake world tailored to Sonic's every whim, but he manages to see past it and defeat Robotnik, allowing things to return to normal, even if slowly due to how massive the scale of the illusions were.

Eggman, beneath the wreckage of Eggmanland, contemplates fixing his modified Phantom Ruby prototype and using it once more, but Infinite, who was briefly able to leave the Phantom Ruby during the whole event, snatches it from his hand. Initially seeking revenge, he instead accepts his fate as his body disappears once more, dropping the prototype into the lava.

"9:12 AM, ¡descubrimos a un sospechoso y comenzamos la investigación!" 

Station Square lucía apacible en este día soleado, aparentemente tranquila.

Cream the Rabbit, una joven conejita vestida con un adorable traje de detective, y su amigo Chao, Cheese, estaban decididos a seguir al sospechoso de unos misteriosos secuestros de chao que había alterado la paz de la ciudad. Cream, quien había aprendido mucho en su trabajo de tiempo parcial en la agencia de detectives, se esforzaba en su papel de detective para proteger la paz de la ciudad.

El sospechoso llevaba por nombre "Big the Boss". Era un gran felino de aspecto elegante, con un abrigo lujoso y un sombrero a juego, que ocultaba sus ojos inquietantes detrás de unas gafas de sol.

Los habitantes de la ciudad pronto comenzaron a llamarlo "Don Mafias" debido a su apariencia típica de ese mundo, y comenzaron a difundir todo tipo de rumores sobre él.

Además, la escasa información proporcionada por testigos sobre el secuestrador, un "hombre grande de pocas palabras pero con gran fuerza", coincidía con la descripción de Big the Boss. Por lo tanto, Cream comenzó a investigarlo como sospechoso del caso.

En la entrada principal del banco, “Don Mafias" emergió majestuosamente desde un coche negro de lujo.

Cream, que lo había estado persiguiendo desde el cielo aleteando sus largas orejas, y aterrizó suavemente en una rama de un árbol junto al banco. Desde las sombras, lo observó mientras era recibido por los empleados del banco y entraba con gran determinación.

Mientras caminaba, Big sacó algo y se lo entregó a uno de los empleados del banco, quien inclinó repetidamente la cabeza antes de dirigirse hacia el interior, una señal claramente sospechosa. En ese momento, Cream vio qué era ese "algo"... Una foto de un chao.

"...¡Una foto de un chao secuestrado!"

Unos minutos después, Don Mafias volvió a aparecer frente al banco, con dos grandes maletines de metal repletos de dinero en ambas manos.

"...¿Un rescate?"

Despidiéndose con respetuosas reverencias de los empleados del banco que lo observaban, Big se retiró en su coche. Parecía que incluso el banco no podía resistirse a Don Mafias ¿eh?. El rescate había caído en manos del villano.

"La próxima vez, será el momento decisivo para arrestarlo".

Cream agitó sus orejas una vez más y aumentó la velocidad para seguir al coche.

"11:05 AM, ¿¡Un vendedor de armas en un estanque de pesca!?"

El estanque de pesca estaba tranquilo y escasamente poblado... Don Mafias, vestido con un traje inapropiado para la ocasión, estaba solo en la orilla, sosteniendo una caña de pescar. ¿Estaba esperando a alguien? Miraba ocasionalmente la maleta que había dejado a su lado, pero no se movía ni un centímetro.

"Cheese, creo que es hora..."

Mientras Cream, que había estado observando desde afuera, llama de vuelta a Cheese, quien había sido enviado en una misión de reconocimiento. En ese preciso momento…

¡Boom!

Un estallido repentino. Cream se agachó en un ataque de pánico. Al girarse, se dio cuenta de que Big había entregado una de las maletas de aluminio a un hombre que había aparecido de repente y, a cambio, recibió otra maleta negra. Ambos abrieron sus maletas y verificaron su contenido.

"¡Chao!"

En ese momento, Cheese regresó a toda velocidad. Con el rostro pálido, hizo gestos hacia Cream como un pistolero, tratando de transmitirle lo que había visto.

"¡U-Una pistola!"

Cream escucha la conversación de los dos hombres con oídos temblorosos.

"¿Una buena pieza, verdad? Si las utiliza, todo será historia.”

Don Mafias asintió con satisfacción ante las palabras del hombre mientras señalaba la maleta negra. En plena luz del día, había adquirido armas utilizando el rescate del secuestro. Big the Boss era, sin lugar a dudas, un Señor de la Mafia.

Aunque Cream estaba profundamente asustada, no podía permitirse quedarse atrás. Pensando en la seguridad de los chao y los demás secuestrados, declaró con determinación:

"No, ¡no tengo miedo! ¡Definitivamente lo atraparemos"

Cream y Cheese se levantaron decididos y reanudaron su seguimiento con una nueva determinación.

"17:15h, Mercado Negro."

Don Mafias se deslizó por un estrecho callejón junto al casino en el barrio de entretenimiento de Station Square. Acompañado de su secuaz, una rana, y sosteniendo maletines con dinero y pistolas en ambas manos, avanzaba con determinación.

El dinero es el rescate por los chao secuestrados.

¿Las pistolas son para intimidar a Chao durante el secuestro?

A pesar de sus aterradores pensamientos, Cream logró seguir a Don Mafias y finalmente se detuvo frente a una pequeña y sombría tienda de aspecto sucio. Detrás del mostrador, había un chao sospechoso con el rostro oculto por gafas de sol y una mascarilla.

El Mercado Negro... no había mejor manera de describirlo. Era un lugar oscuro y sospechoso. Cuando Don Mafias colocó los maletines en el mostrador en silencio, el dueño de la tienda y Big the Boss sonrieron maliciosamente.

"Bienvenido, señor... Esto es lo que tenemos hoy."

Murmuró el dueño de la tienda mientras sacaba un huevo de chao dorado y resplandeciente... ¡Big  extendió su mano hacia él con una sonrisa aún más maliciosa!

El dinero y las pistolas... Don Mafias había contratado a profesionales en este Mercado Negro para llevar a cabo los secuestros. Él mismo no se ensuciaba las manos; en su lugar, manipulaba el crimen con dinero y armas. Este era sin duda el trabajo de Don Mafias. Cream no pudo contenerse más.

"¡Alto ahí! ¡Queda arrestado por flagrante delito de crimen organizado!"

Las palabras de Cream sorprendieron a los dos.

"¿Cómo dices? Si esto es solo..."

Cream contuvo al dueño de la tienda que intentó tomar los maletines y envió a Cheese hacia ellos.

"¡Tenemos pruebas!... ¡Cheese!"

"¡Chao, Chao!"

"Las pistolas que iban a usarse para los crímenes... espera, ¿eso es...?"

Dentro de la maleta abierta, en lugar de pistolas, encontraron un artículo común en las fiestas: petardos. El secuaz de Big, la rana, hizo estallar uno de ellos con un "¡Bang!" y el ambiente se llenó de silencio.

"Somos solo un kindergarten, señorita... siempre lo hemos sido..."

"P-Pero... ¡El rescate, y los huevos Chao peligro...! Don Mafias..."

El dueño de la tienda y Don Mafias se miraron y, después de unos segundos de silencio, estallaron en carcajadas y decidieron contarle todo a Cream.

Resulta que estaban en la entrada trasera del kindergarten de los Chao. Big era un magnate empresarial que, en secreto, donaba al kindergarten y ocasionalmente se ofrecía como voluntario para llevar a los Chao perdidos a un kindergarten apropiado.

Él no necesitaba nada a cambio, solo quería ver fotos de los chao felices. La gente de la ciudad lo apreciaba por ello y le entregaba varias donaciones para la fiesta de Halloween, que era por lo que estaba allí hoy.

"Entonces, ¿todo esto fue un error...?"

Cream soltó un suspiro de alivio y al mismo tiempo, su vergüenza por la confusión la hizo cubrirse la cabeza con la mano. Big le dio tal cantidad de dulces que no podía sostener en sus manos y luego acarició la cabeza de Cream con sus cálidas manos.

"Conejita, gracias por preocuparte por los chao."

"Sr. Big, ha resultado ser un “Don Mafias” bueno, ¿verdad?"

“Siento haber juzgado por las apariencias", se disculpó Cream, y luego una feliz risa llenó el callejón. Pero, ¡al siguiente instante!

De las sombras del edificio, dos puñetazos con cohetes y cables se extendieron y agarraron la maleta de aluminio que Big sostenía. Era la maleta importante que contenía los huevos de Chao.

"¡Wow, qué estás haciendo!"

Desde la oscuridad distante, alguien con un poder aterrador intentaba arrebatar los huevos. Era un robot gigantesco. Big luchó desesperadamente para resistir.

"¿Podría ser... ese es el secuestrador de chao?"

El secuestrador no era Big, pero los secuestros sí habían ocurrido. Y ahora, el verdadero culpable había aparecido... ¡aquí mismo!

"¡E-es muy fuerte!"

El robot aumentó la fuerza para arrebatar la maleta a Big, pero Big tiró de los cables del robot con determinación. Y entonces...

"¡Ahí viene!"

Big tiró con todas sus fuerzas, haciendo que el robot volara en el aire haciendo un arco. Con aún más fuerza, Big lo atrajo de nuevo hacia él, y el robot se estrelló contra el suelo con fuerza.

¡Boom!

El robot, grande y con una cabeza parecida a un cubo de basura, sufrió graves daños y quedó boca abajo. Aunque tenía una armadura robusta, la tapa de la cabeza se abrió durante el impacto, revelando componentes electrónicos.

¡No había mejor momento que este para dar el golpe final!

"¡Ahora, Cheese!"

"¡Chao!"

Siguiendo la señal de Cream, Cheese se lanzó con un ataque Chao directo al punto vulnerable del robot.

¡Crash! ¡Bzzzt...!

El robot chisporroteó y se detuvo, con chispas eléctricas surgiendo. En ese momento, Cream voló por el aire y enrolló los cables extendidos alrededor del robot para inmovilizarlo.

"Eres un robot malo que secuestra Chao. Quedas arrestado en flagrante delito de crimen organizado."

Finalmente, la detective Cream y Cheese habían capturado al verdadero culpable del secuestro de los Chao.

Después de eso...

Siguiendo las huellas del robot, encontraron a muchos chao en un almacén en las afueras de la ciudad, y todos fueron rescatados sanos y salvos. Todos los Chao que habían sido capturados eran inusuales. ¿Por qué habían hecho esto? Esa era una cuestión para la policía.

Pero lo que más interesaba a Cream era el Don Mafias. Ella se había encariñado con su trabajo por los Chao y comenzó a ayudar ocasionalmente al "buen Don" en sus esfuerzos.

"Parece que el Don Mafias ahora tiene nuevos miembros."

No pasó mucho tiempo cuando en Station Square, comenzaron a circular nuevos rumores sobre esta colaboración.

Al día siguiente, a las 10:35 AM, en Mystic Ruins…

"...Hay que ver, las habilidades para pescar de Big son una locura ¡Vaya manera de pescar un robot de esa manera! Cream sigue siendo tan diligente como siempre, ¡los pequeños detectives lo hicieron bien!"

Estaban en lo alto de una colina cerca de la estación de Mystic Ruins, donde se encontraba el taller de Tails. 

Viendo a Big y los demás entrar al Jardín Chao que podía ver desde dónde estaban para, Sonic dijo esto con una expresión alegre.

"Ese robot fue el que secuestró a Amy en el pasado, ZERO. Parece que no ha cambiado en absoluto."

Sonic continuó con una risita. Justo en ese momento, la puerta del taller se abrió de repente y Tails salió corriendo.

“¡Ya lo tengo, Sonic! ¡Ya lo entiendo!”

Lo que Tails anunció mientras investigaba en su taller resultó ser sorprendente.

"Descubrimos que la causa de esta anomalía era el Rubí Fantasma, así que me centré en investigar esa energía..."

Utilizando satélites de observación desde el espacio, he descubierto que este planeta estaba completamente cubierto por una fina membrana de luz hecha de la energía del Rubí Fantasma. El problema estaba ocurriendo solamente en este planeta.

Eggman utilizó el poder del Rubí Fantasma, que solo se puede usar una vez, para distorsionar la percepción de la realidad en esta realidad virtual de este planeta donde Sonic y los demás viven.

"Entonces, Eggman... ¡Distorsionó la percepción de este planeta y causó esta anomalía global!”

Una brisa inquietante pasó por Sonic y Tails en el taller de Tails, que se había convertido en una panadería en apariencia, a pesar de que los efectos del incidente en esa área eran relativamente leves.

Sonic miró con una expresión que parecía que se cuestionaba por el significado de todo esto, por lo que Tails continuó… 

"Si engañas al propio planeta, todos nosotros, que nacimos en su superficie, también seremos afectados... a nivel mundial. Eggman utilizó el Rubí Fantasma de la forma más eficiente posible. Es sorprendente..."

Sonic silbó con asombro, y Tails suspiró con admiración.

“Entonces, ¿todas estas anomalías en todas partes es el resultado de una manifestación de la propia percepción del planeta? ¡Hasta los guionistas están sorprendidos!"

"No, Sonic..."

Tails continuó explicando.

"Al final, Eggman no pudo controlar completamente el engaño a todo el planeta. Como resultado, la cortina de luz funcionó como una antena que recopila los ‘pensamientos’ de todos, y retroalimenta al planeta con ellas, lo que resultó en las anomalías reflejadas en diferentes lugares."

Y esta vez, en lugar de una hipótesis, es una conclusión basada en la observación cuidadosa de la energía de múltiples Rubís Fantasma que se extienden desde el velo de luz y llegan a la superficie terrestre, según explicó Tails.

"... Hmm, entonces, esta situación también es en parte algo que creamos nosotros. Es interesante, pero es un poco preocupante esto de que mis propias impresiones salgan a la luz sin aviso."

Tails respondió con una sonrisilla irónica mientras sujetaba el dobladillo de su falda.

"Pero..."

A pesar de comprender la situación, todavía tenía preguntas.

"Aún así, ¿qué gana Eggman con todo esto? Podría haber conquistado el mundo aprovechando este caos... ¿Cuál es su objetivo?"

Sonic, que estaba confundido por todo lo que habían descubierto, permaneció en silencio por un momento...

Pero después de unos segundos, fue Tails quien habló con una sonrisa brillante.

"Aún no lo sabemos, pero... de todos modos, si podemos destruir el dispositivo que mantiene esta cortina de luz, ¡entonces el planeta debería despertar! Ya he rastreado su ubicación según el flujo de energía. Así que, Sonic..."

Sonic recuperó su entusiasmo al instante de escuchar la propuesta de Tails y continuó.

"¡OK, suena bien! Primero, vayamos allí y solucionemos este caos. ¡Cuento contigo para la guía, Tails!"

"¡Sí! ¡Yo me encargo!"

Sonic sonrió expresando su confianza en Tails, quien respondió tímidamente con otra sonrisa.

Los dos se dirigieron hacia el corazón del problema, listos para enfrentar lo que les esperaba.

Rating FL's part 3

Shuri

12/10: I just started reading A step mothers marchen (and it's probably gonna take a while to finish it since Bato doesn't have a full English translation) but from the few chapters I read I agreed with fans of the book that Shuri is without a doubt one of the best FL's. There's actual development between her and the step-children and she succeeds at being relatable without making her too overpowered.

Athanasia

7/10: Okay while I don't really care too much about WMMAP, I still think that for one of the first most popular otome isekais Athy was a pretty good protagonist and most of my complaints about her are mostly just ant hills. I don't have much to say on Athy other then she's a good start for OI protagonists but could be a little better.

Aisha

9/10: Is she generic? Yes, does that make her a bad protagonist? No. I don't understand what people mean when they say Marianne overshadows her unless they're talking about the fandom specifically because as someone who also really loves Marianne, she barely shows up on screen so to say that she overshadows Aisha just because Aisha is a typical sweet saintess heroine is stupid. Sometimes ITLA can be a little on the nose with how nice she is but I still find Aisha pretty well made.

Sienna

9/10: Okay I officially love manhwa where the maid is the protagonist instead of a noblewoman and as short as the manhwa she's from is, I still think she's a sweetheart. My only complaint is that the story keeps randomly inserting sad backstory memories so you feel bad for her, like one minute she'll be doing something ordinary and then next she's basically just like "This reminds me of when my step-mom hit me with jumper cables after I spilled one drop of tea." And then it goes back to the present within one panel.

Hae Soo

6.5/10: I'm sorry but people meat ride her WAY too much. She's not a terrible FL but there is so much better and she's really not all that because you can kinda tell by the way that she's the only female character thats likable and with that bodytype that she's just a self insert character.

Ruby

8/10: For once we have a piece that actually looks into the typical white lotuses point of view, Like Helena except way darker when it comes to backstories. I like that Ruby is shown to be more emotional cause I never liked how a lot of manhwa imply that emotions=crybaby FL, it all depends on how it's handled and I think thr author was very respectful when it came to her abuse and ED. However like Sienna there are times when the author is trying too hard and ends up forgetting certain parts of Ruby's trauma. For example they mentioned early in the chapters that Ruby's beloved older sister had died but it's barely mentioned in the future on how it affected her, so it ends up feeling like it was just a way to feel bad for her even more.

Aria

6/10: so on one hand I'm really glad that Aria is actually evil instead of the comic just saying " Oh no! She's not evil! She's too nice for that" because if villainess is gonna be in the title then she should keep some of her villainous traits, but I really don't know if I should see her as super smart if all her enemies are too stupid to combat her, it makes Aria look really stupid when she got killed in the first timeline if they're so bad at crimes.

Eris

10/10, Love my girl Eris! Kill the villainess was great for a lot of things, a knight for the ML instead of the prince, the ogfl not being a white lotus out to ruin Eris's life, and morally corrupt villains that felt like obstacles, but what they did the best was the FL because Eris actually retains her goal on going back to her world instead of shrugging it off and going to sleep because you know most people would be freaking out if they woke up as a historical woman in a time period where women had no rights and it was easy to die after getting sick once.

Roxana

9.5/10: She's overrated but that doesn't make a character bad by default. When I finally read Roxana after seeing the hype I could understand why they loved Roxana so much. Now as much as I don't like evil protagonists who don't suffer consequences, the story makes up for it by being self aware that the Agriche family are a bunch of lunatics with the exception of Roxanas mom and her late brother. Being chaotic is simply part of the plot so I don't think it's fair for me to fault it. That being said as much as I loved her I do think that her takeover during the end chapters shouldn't have been done and done so easily and quickly.

Verta

7/10: similar to Roxana, Depths of malice is self aware that Verta is a terrible person even though she has a tragic backstory, it's only an explanation for why she's like this not an excuse. If you know me, you know I love the white lotus women so seeing one as a protagonist was something extraordinary since I thought everyone but me and a select few hated two faced women. She only really earns a 7 because as good as she is, there are better ones.

Near Uniquely RWBY - Main Characters

I was chatting with my sibling the other day and we were joking about the fact in 90% of the media I consume I generally don't like the main characters.

Not in the sense I necessarily hate them, but I generally don't find them to be the most interesting, engaging or enjoyable person on screen or page. Instead I tend to gravitate towards secondary or minor characters and even minor antagonists before any of the big names.

Some of this is rooted in my often rooting for what tends to feel more like a real underdog or characters that feel like they got dealt a bad hand by the author unfairly. But its also that in a lot of media the main characters tend to immediately, slowly or quickly go into personality lockdown.

Becoming less a personality and more the embodiment of expected tropes and themes, or they lose their unique edge or circumstances because the plot demands one benefits or personality changes be heaped on them to keep the tone and story going.

Some examples of this would include say:

Ichigo from Bleach, with him and his supporting cast being very unique and super interesting during the initial arc. But as Soul Society came in, he became a much more standard Shounen determinator a the expense of his personality and his supporting casts were largely watered down & left behind.

Or how in Naruto or Dragon Ball the whole underdog/hard worker aspect of the characters felt undercut by legacy power ups and an endless wellspring of natural talent, alien biology, ETC.

I know these are just two examples, but they cover the general gist of what I mean.

So, what makes RWBY different?

Well, off the cuff, is simply that the four main characters are women.

I've often felt simply putting anyone other than a cis-het guy into the main character slot of say, a battle Shounen, or Isekai stands a good chance of making it more interesting by default. Even if the author does nothing with it the audience reaction would be different because the MC would be an exception to the norms.

In that vein, while one can call RWBY some sort of Shounen or adventure fantasy or magical girl show the main four are unique in how they manifest on screen at the very start. From how they participate in action, to how said action is structured and framed and the kind of adventures and topics they tackle.

But being unique alone is not enough, that would simply make it more interesting than the bog standard but what elevates RWBY is the execution and exploration of such elements and its characters.

Going into every aspect would be difficult, but in light of what I said above would be how each of the main four are initially presented as familiar archetypes, only to subvert or deconstruct them.

Ruby is a peppy goth who just wants to be normal but has inborn powers from her mysteriously vanished mother and serves as a beacon of optimism to others.

Except Ruby's version of normal still involved fighting death monsters with a sniper rifle scythe and she is actually one of the more ruthless characters. Her peppy persona obscures that she can have a pretty vicious temper when pushed and has displayed strong bloodknight tendencies.

Her unrelenting optimism and desire to fix the world is a complex mix of true beliefs, coping mechanism for trauma and her grappling with positions forced on her against her will. Her inborn power is potentially useful but also not that much of a game breaker outside specific contexts & said power sure as hell didn't save her mom.

Weiss Schnee is the Tsundere heiress of a powerful family, with a haughty attitude that hides her loneliness.

Except the "Tsundere" is more of a defense mechanism born of coming from an abusive home where every member of her family manifested a different trauma response. Freeze (Mother), flight (Sister), Fight (Weiss) Fawn (Brother).

Despite her upbringing & some projected trauma, she's far from ignorant as to the worst excesses of her nation early on, and her journey was more about overcoming the impacts her abuser had on her and finding a family in her team that let her be safe enough to let down her walls. Also despite being "The ice queen" she's actually one of the characters least inclined towards more ruthless actions and is extremely empathic.

Blake Belladonna is a mysterious and silent rougish woman, something of a shrinking violet even, but she carries with her a wounded heart thanks to her old flame, the edgy Adam Taurus.

Or more accurately, Blake is the daughter of activists and politicians who represent the worlds main discriminated against minority. She spent her youth on the road as a protestor and where even her father could be nearly killed by a lynch mob. She was targeted & groomed by a man who claimed to want to fight the same injustice she did but who was only interested in using the movement to grow his own power.

Her initial aloof-ness was a trauma response to having spent years under his thumb and overcoming him and the idea she had to 'save' him was one of the main corner stone so her character. Also, despite the "Revolutionary fighter" backstory she like Weiss is much less inclined towards ruthlessness than her team in large part because her past experience with it.

Yang Xiao Long, introduced as the fun loving big sister of Ruby & boisterous bruiser of the team who loves to party & flirt.

Except no, Yang was parentified as a child and forced to raise her own sister as their family unit fell apart. Her "Party girl" persona was outright framed as judging a book by its cover in her own trailer and something she put on or took off as she needed.

She became disabled over the course of the series run as well as entered a Sapphic romance with her partner Blake. Unlike the stereotype of characters with her design, Yang is actually an excellent student, fighter and engineer/mechanic. Plus much like her sister she tends to be of the more ruthless and pragmatic persuasion despite being from the "Normal" background.

Character Conclusion

So, all the characters break out of their initial archetypes, which already makes them more interesting. What's more, these sorts of characters just being oput together and made the main characters rather than circling a dude is in of itself unique.

But there are other aspects of the writing which endear me to how it handles the main characters and what keeps them interesting.

Anger & Violence

See, while in various media women do express anger at times it is still often far less so than men. What's more, often women's anger tends to be presented in... Less flattering lights.

With the anger obscuring fragility while in a man it conveys strength. Or implying a sort of hysteria rather than an appropriate or controlled response. Or worst of all being demonized in general unless its rooted in or coming from traditionally feminine places.

The same tends to be true when it comes to violence with a lot of media either trying to find some way to make women in battle less... Brutal than their male counterparts. (More more like fanservice) Along with rarely letting women fight men, unless they are a special exception to the norm.

RWBY does not do this.

The main characters, hell, all the women in the series express a multitude of different forms of anger and violence. They battle men, they battle each other, they battle monsters all with no distinction nor fanservice shot in sight.

What's more though is that said anger and violence are not presented as, for lack of better words, wrong. The writers don't draw overt attention to this fact, they don't hang a big sign up saying "Girls can fight & shout too" or the like.

They just present these women with a range of emotions, motives and actions that are treated according to what fits the theme of the show rather than hewing closer to gendered lines.

This isn't to say anger & violence are lionized, but more that the experience and usage of them is not demonized or undermined because of the characters gender.

I suppose what I am saying is that CRWBY by and large lack double standards when it comes to exploring these things that I see so often in other media. The women in the main cast, among the villains, both sides respective allies and beyond can be flawed, or angry or do both good and terrible things.

But the writers are always treating everyone's pain as equally valid regardless of gender or situation. Which means that the situations that cause anger exist within a tone of respect that forms the depiction and framing of anger itself.

Which is just something I really enjoy.

I am getting kind of annoyed both at takes I see at rwde as well as anon who spammed my posts few weeks ago. Basically, they argue that on top of being awful character, Jaune also completely ruins his literary allusion, Joan of Arc.

Of course, you are free to like or dislike Jaune, however, when people claim they hate Jaune because he is a coward, I get really confused. Jaune is not a coward, he is pretty brave, to the point of it being kind of flaw since he has low regard for his own safety. If he was a coward, he wouldn't have went with Ruby, Nora and Ren to Haven, he wouldn't have challenged Cinder to the fight, he wouldn't have tried to infiltrate Salem's base to save Oscar, etc. They are pretty on the nose with it in Volume 8 when Ren states Jaune feels no fear.

However, meat of my gripes is with people not understanding Joan of Arc and how to translate her character to the story.

No, Jaune not being giga chad isekai self insert protagonist level of strong is not an issue or insult to his primary literary allusion, it's the opposite. I don't know do people get their Joan of Arc knowledge from Fate Grand Order, but Joan herself wasn't skilled fighter. She was never properly trained and never directly fought someone. In pretty much every major battle she fought she was wounded or knocked out (hit by an arrow at Orleans, knocked out by a rock at Jargeau, hit by an arrow at Paris, knocked off from her horse at Compiegne). In fact her knowledge of sword fighting was so lacking she accidentally broke her treasured sword when she struck a prostitute with its side. There is no good reason for Jaune to be some kind of prodigy when he is based on a character that never properly fought anyone.

No, Jaune relying on his team to solve problems doesn't make him pussy and isn't unlike Joan. Once again, Joan of Arc wasn't front line fighter, she was moral support to the army. Her greatest triumph, siege of Orleans, was just her directing armies where to go whenever she got a vision. And Jaune's Semblance makes sense for someone based on Joan of Arc. It is essentially morale boost Semblance considering boosting an Aura buffs both your health, defense and offensive abilities. It matches what Joan did for her comrades. Jaune relying on his team to accomplish things is not a bug, it's a feature.

No, Jaune failing doesn't make him an insult to Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc herself wasn't perfect and suffered handful of failures herself. After her victory at Orleans, she won at Jargeau, but then lost the siege at Paris. After that she was stalemated in Perrinet Gressart campaign, won a battle at Lagny and was then captured at Compiegne. After failed siege of Paris, and especially after stalemate against Perrinet Gressart, Court started doubting her abilities. It is simply different order of wins and losses with Joan peaking in her first battle while Jaune was completely useless during the Fall of Beacon but has upward trajectory after that.

Jaune's Joan of Arc is the one without any special abilities but with the same aspirations. He wants to be the hero and save the world, but he wasn't blessed with divine power that gives him unnatural charisma and allows him to see future events. People's gripes and suggestions how to "fix him" usually boil down to turning Jaune into generic power fantasy protagonist. Which is not only boring and misses the point of the character, it also misses the point of Joan of Arc. If Jaune was some kind of prodigy kicking ass since Volume 1, he wouldn't have been Joan, he would have been Roland, Arthur, Lancelot or whatever famous legendary knight you can find.
