God speaks directly to #Israel in Isaiah's contemporary context, however in the fuller context of #scripture both can be appropriated to the church and those who have put their #faith in #jesuschrist (And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. - #Galatians 3:29). -The #Lord #Yahweh - The God whom Israel knows, for no other reason except God has made Himself known to His people, He has revealed Himself to His Creation; Jesus, God incarnate, is the fullest expression of God revealed directly to mankind -He who created you oh #Jacob - alludes to creation, but also to Jacob as the chosen #seed of Isaac. Jacob, who though younger than his twin Esau, was given Isaac's blessing (some say by precarious means, but God had prophesied this to Rebekah, Gen. 25:24) -He who formed you oh Israel - alludes to Creation because all people are made in the image of God; but to Jacob whom God renamed Israel (Gen 32:37) who fathered the 12 tribes and became God's chosen people (Exod 19:6, Deut 6:7-8, appropriated to the #church in 1 Peter 2:5,9) -I have redeemed you- Israel from Egypt, the world from the bondage of sin; only Judaism and Christianity have a God who redeems! Amen?!?! Clothing, aesthetics, praying a certain number of times a day, in a certain direction and posture--all human works trying desperately to redeem oneself when Christ has done it all for us! -I have called you by name - God knows each of His people. He has a relationship with His people, with His Creation. Whether Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, the nation of Israel, the church, Zacchaeus (#Jesus never met Z and called him by name out of the tree!!), you, me, God knows those who are His, Jesus knows those who are His and NO ONE can snatch them from his nail-pierced hands.
