(pls don't attack me for this 😭😭)

THE PERCY JACKSON SERIES WAS A PISS POOR ADAPTATION!!!

I would like to start by saying absolutely no hate on the actors!! They were perfect for their roles <3

I'm not just gonna be complaining the whole time, there were some things I did like and I do mention them as well.

1) the pacing was all off. I get that they only had 8 episodes to cram all that info and action into, but it really was WAYY too fast paced. The fight scenes didn't feel like fight scenes coz they were over in seconds, and just a lot of the info you're supposed to find out gradually or just know from context clues is outright said instead of shown and spaced out.

Also, just some of the dialogue was really cluncky and weird/unnecessary and made it very awkward to watch at times.

And then the only two long fight scenes dragged on and ended in ways that just completely disregarded a major character moment. Which leads me to no. 2

2) The arch scene. I actually really liked how they changed it to a shrine of Athena's in the show, it really showed how much Annabeth trusted her mother, and when Echidna was able to pass through anyway, the betrayal was a nice touch which really showed how much trouble they were really in.

HOWEVER!!! What I DIDN'T like, was that last fight scene with Echidna and the Chimera, which actually really upsets me coz it was our first decently lengthed fight scene. I didn't mind the fight overall, but the ending was a cop-out.

The scene in the book where he jumps out of the arch is supposed to show how much trust/faith he has in the gods and his father. He trusts that Poseidon will catch him. And yes, ik, Uncle Rick "thought it was closer" and didn't realise the river didn't go directly under the arch, but surely the fact that it wasn't closer holds that much more weight if he had jumped?

3) They completely butchered Grover, Annabeth, Sally and Gabe's characters.

Grover is supposed to be this scared but BRAVE and LOYAL satyr who loves nature and whose entire purpose is to PROTECT young demigods and find Pan (the god of the wild).

Instead, we get this guy who rats out his friend for doing something he didn't even do, AGREES WITH ARES about fucking WAR of all things (I get it was a ploy to get information but I'm still not really vibing coz it was just so out of character), and WAITS OUTSIDE till the fight is finished before running in and asking if it was over yet. And if all that wasn't bad enough, they've turned him into the exposition guy. Uncle Rick, does show don't tell mean nothing to you?? He deserved a lot better than what he got.

Annabeth in the books had so much depth and character dimension; she wanted to break free from her stereotypes (dumb blonde, girls can't fight/are weak etc); she had a lot of faith in the gods (especially her mother - I'm really glad this was shown in the show); she wanted a way to prove herself to the gods.

Instead her character is moulded down into a singular trait. 'Mean'. I personally think it's a step up from her movie counterpart's singular trait of 'girl', but they could also just do her one better and give her an actually fully fleshed out personality.

I understand that, due to her appearance, they obviously can't do the whole dumb blonde thing (which I really don't mind), but they could throw in some struggles about her race and the 'girls are weak' thing too. Obviously they'd have to be careful to handle it respectfully but it's definitely doable. Like, there are so many thing they can do with her character and all they did was make her mean.

I would have liked it to have been more obvious that she wanted to prove herself to the gods, because it's such a big reason why she chose to be part of the quest. Like, the bathroom scene should've made it more obvious that she was scoping him out to see if he was the leader of the quest she was prophesied to be in, instead of that stupid janky line about capture the flag.

I did, however, like that they got rid of her little crush on Luke, because the fandom ruined their sibling relationship because of that. (I can already see the arguments THATS gonna bring up lol). I interpreted her little crush on Luke as something similar to like when you'd have a teacher crush on primary school. A silly little crush because "they're pretty and were nice to me" kinda vibes. A platonic crush if you will ?

ANYWAYS, I'm glad they fixed that up, but I really would've liked to see her and Luke act more like siblings before he left. Like, half the confusion the first time round was coz we didn't get any proper sibling moments before (or after really) Percy came to the conclusion that Annabeth liked Luke. It just would've been a nice touch.

I also really didn't like the fight with Luke at the end (they changed WAYYYY too much) but the thing I dislike the most was that Annabeth was there. She wasn't supposed to be there. Half her struggle through the rest of the books was that she couldn't come to terms with the fact that Luke was on the Titan's side, and tried to hurt/kill them multiple times when they got in his way. It's supposed to be a slow process for her, but having her there would (realistically) speed up that process, and undermine her feelings and struggles from the books.

On another note, I didn't like how they dealt with Cerberus. It felt so unfeeling, when it was supposed to be a more emotional interaction. Annabeth loves dogs, and that was supposed to be one of the moments you learn more about her. It was supposed to be sad when they parted, but instead it was more of a "that thing is going to kill us, we need to get the fuck outta here" kind of situation.

One last thing for Annabeth coz this is getting long. The Fields of Asphodel scene was rubbish. If there had to be one of them stuck there, it should've been Grover. I truly believe he'd have the most regrets out of the three (eg. Thalia dying under his care, losing the teleportation pearl, trusting Luke, regret for ratting Percy out perhaps? Etc). But realistically they all would've planned roots. They each have regrets weighing them down. Anyways, I just thought it was stupid

Gabe is meant to be the absolute worst. He's meant to be an abusive asshole who couldn't give two shits about Sally and Percy. He's meant to be demanding and messy.

Instead we get this somewhat likeable guy whose worst crime is sitting in his chair for hours at a time. We're supposed to hate this guy, so why am I finding him kinda funny? Like yes, he's still kind of a dick, but he's not so irredeemable as he once was, and this version of him DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be turned into a statue 😭😭

Like, miss ma'am, just divorce him, move out, turning him into a statue was so unnecessary in the show 😭😭

And I hate to say it, but the movies actually got him right.

And that leads me into Sally's character. In the books she's this brilliant woman with a heart of gold who loves her son more than anything. She married an abuser to protect her son from worse things, so he could grow up with a relatively normal childhood without fear of being hunted by monsters 24/7.

She's supposed to be a bit timid, a bit scared of Gabe because HES AN ABUSER. Sally isn't supposed to have her girlbossness yet! She hasn't gotten to the point where she can leave him (both because she's staying to protect Percy, and also because after being with someone like that for a prolonged period of time, it starts to get to you)

Side note - she's also not supposed to keep contact with Poseidon?? It kinda defeats the purpose of keeping Percy underwraps?? (I'm talking about that one flashback in the diner, it doesn't really make sense)

ANYWAYS!! Instead of some quality character development/growth, we get a character who unrealistically doesn't need it coz she isn't really a victim in the first place. They took away part of her character by taking away her trauma. The way that Sally and Gabe are portrayed really takes away from Sally, and the point that her character is at in the show doesn't make sense to her situation in the show's current timeline.

Also, the way Sally treats Percy in some of the flashbacks is fucking disgusting. THAT is NOT my Sally Jackson. My mother is emotionally/vocally abusive and neglectful, and that is exactly how she treats my neurodivergent younger brother. Maybe I'm projecting or looking into it too much, but seeing that in the show from one of my favourite characters in the books was so jarring, I almost started crying.

Because Sally is supposed to be the best mum, everyone loves her coz she's such a wonderful human being, and that's how she's been treating her son. It just makes me second guess how bad my own mum really is. Obviously everyone has their flaws, but getting angry and yelling at a child because he's scared/upset/doesn't want to do something has never been one of hers.

Alrighty, I'm gonna stop yabbering on coz I feel like this is WAYY too long, but I have a lotta thoughts and feelings about this coz PJO is my comfort fandom lol.

Unpopular opinion, Dottore is absolutely touch-starved and loves cuddles. After a long day of torture testing in the lab, he just wants to lay down with his darling. Probably also got his lover a pet, just to make sure she gets attached to it and use it as blackmail.

Ajaw and Kinich's darling are great friends.Ajaw likes his darling because she does anything in her power to annoy Kinich after well, being abducted. The difference however is that when his lover does it, it feels more personal. Ajaw and Kinich's darling often times advise each other on how to be the biggest pests alive.

1. Identifying BSD characters as Queer, is not problematic. STOP being so Heteronormative. Gay characters are not gonna kill you.

2. Skk/SSKK/Fyolai/other popular ships, exist because people like it. If you don't ship them, don't engage with their content. Not all shippers act crazy and toxic. Stop blaming everything on shippers.

3. Atsushi/Kyouka is problematic, stop justifying it with "only 4 year age gap". Kyouka is a CHILD, ship her with Kenji if you want. Atsushi, like a normal 18 year old would never look at a highschool freshman and date her. Even if they date in the future, he knew her when she was younger and they had a sibling like dynamic. Lucy is a way better love interest to Atsushi (Don't know if this is an unpopular opinion tho, but I saw some people justifying it 😐😐😐)

5. Mori is a way worse person than Dazai ever was.

19. Q and Elise are both underused characters and could become a great dynamic

20. Ango deserves more love, the amount of pressure and stress he deals with is INSANE

21. It's OKAY if everyone joins the fandom for Dazai or skk (I did at first too!!)

22. Higuchi is annoying as hell. I do not get her hype, I like her but not as much as most people (just personal opinion, do not flame me 😭)

23. Everyone in The Guild is forgettable or boring (except Fitzgerald, Poe and Lucy. I like Louisa, but I forget her all the time)

24. Hetero ships are just not that great/interesting in BSD to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ (except maybe AtsuLucy or rare pairs) and female characters are not best utilised, I wish they play more major roles (can't wait for Agatha to arrive!!)

25. Some fan theories/arts get the story better than "canon" stuff at times. Fanon is NOT always the worst (sometimes enjoyable when the canon gets too dark or sad)

26. Toxic ships are okay in fiction as long as they are legal. Humans like toxic things, we consume it like junk food 💅🏻

yall were my intro to hp meta and have led me to believe that your takes are heretical but ive been reading around and it seems like your takes are not really unpopular?? 😭

Then things have really changed out there.

My better guess is a reminder that the HP fandom is very very very factionalized. You have your different camps (and even camps within camps) that have very strong opinions about certain things. Usually, what happens is my metas will line up with one of the things for one camp... but none of the other things.

For example, the Snape crowd loves that I denote the Marauders were bullies, great stuff, they're not so hot on that I think Snape was... flawed and the fact that I don't think Lily Evans is Satan Incarnate or "I like her because I think she's a horrid person and should be hit by a train" is even less hot.

The strong criticism of Harry is something I have seen very very very few people into.

But there are also metas that, depending on the faction you're in, probably would gain a lot of traction (I am far from the first to discuss "manipulative Dumbledore", will not be the last, and half the fandom agrees with me on that one. It's not a spicy take).

The "heresy" bit is also that a lot of the stuff I talk about is things I just haven't seen elsewhere (maybe they are and I just haven't looked deep enough, but to my knowledge isn't common). This is stuff like "did Tom really murder the Riddles?" never seen it questioned, much less "did Tom really murder Hezpibah Smith?". It's just taken as a given by pretty much everything I've ever seen.

Even the whole "Voldemort was a nihilist attempt to destroy society" is something I really hadn't seen before I jotted it down (could be someone said it, dunno, but definitely not pervasive as far as I could tell).

So, that's where the 'heresy' bit comes in.

That said, frequent comment @therealvinelle and I will get is "I love your Twilight meta, agree with every word you say, I think your HP meta is DEAD WRONG" (which is totally fair, that's what the blog's about and it's not made for anyone to agree with, just to answer questions people ask). And when I get hate mail, which to be fair is not that common of an occurrence and really once in a blue moon, while I do on occasion get it for the twilight stuff, most of the time it's for the HP stuff.

Don't worry anon, I got you covered! Let's break this chapter for three parts - one for story and for one for both H-scenes. There are a lot of things to look forward to~

Warning: HEAVY SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT. In fact, I'll try to shorten the whole thing and focus on plot-relevant facts, so for those who want to go through chapter 5 on their own, come back when you're done! (Or just skip to h-scene, they are marked.)

Ch5 - STORY

First, I would like to warn that my opinion about it may be unpopular. As someone who hadn't paid much attention to Hades before, I fell in love with it after this episode. I adore ch5. A lot of people hate these boys to the core for what they did, and I understand and respect their opinion, but I'm with Hades here. I would love to analyze their behavior in more detail, but we don't have time for that today.

Summarizing this chapter is going to be hard because a lot of things happened. Let's go!

We take Grandpa's advice to heart and finally stand up to Levi. He's surprised, but he doesn't try to kill us again (for now). We witness him hanging one of his subjects, who dared to ask about an accident from 311 years ago.

Fun fact. Devils must have much stronger spines. Do you know how people used to die by hanging? The first methods involved cutting off oxygen, but later they involved into breaking the cervical spine and this was considered a standard hanging execution. Leviathan must be gentle (how bad it sounds in this context), he could kill instantly with a loop like that.

Back to the point. We find out that we also have a noose around our neck, and Leviathan makes use of it. We're hanging, but we finally begin to meet Leviathan's nobles one by one.

Glasyal plots (and ends up hanging for it), Foras argues with him, along the way we learn that Leviathan needs us in his plan, and, you know, maybe killing us isn't the smartest thing he can do. Only Barbatos realizes that maybe it's a good idea to stop hanging us like wet laundry. He's the only one so openly nice to us.

Remember that.

Another fun fact, our MC is of medium height (~160 cm I guess). Leviathan is 187cm, Foras should be similar. I only noticed this because I myself am 180 cm so they are not so strappingly tall for me.

Foras wants to take us away from Levi and explain everything calmly, but the king does not agree. We learn that the guys know where the seed from the Tree of Knowledge is. We're supposed to go with them, and we have about a 50/50 chance of survival. Also, we have the opportunity to see a very rare phenomenon, a joking Leviathan.

Colossally shortening the rest, the cavalry arrives! You didn't have to. I haven't had time to fuck them yet.

And this cavalry is very much at odds with the nobles of Hades. Most of the time is them arguing. Fortunately, they didn't kill each other…

...because Barbie decided to kill us.

Barbatos is poisoning us to force Bimet and Valefor to join the plan. While we are unconscious, we have flashes of Leviathan's past, which is too sad to analyze considering that we are about to jump to hot scenes now. Besides, most of us already know what this is about. Experience it for yourself. Really. We also learn that not only angels experimented on children, and a little about Mammon's childhood.

In the end, we learn that in Ch6 we must visit the abandoned laboratory in Tartaros, where the seed from the tree of knowledge should be, because as Solomon's descendants, we may be the only ones who will not be killed by it.

Ch5 - VALEFOR H-SCENE

TIME FOR DESSERT!

Bimet is the first to realize that we lack devil energy. He wants to take care of it, but Valefor brushes him off, sends him to scout, and overall Bimet is our wingman, what a bro lol

Since we are away from Satan and Gehenna, we cannot summon Minhyeok's room. MC thinks she's outgrown it anyway. So we can count on the next scenes to be more and more creative.

It all starts with us telling Valefor that he reminds us of Mammon. And what a beast it brings out of him.

...aaand then, someone wants to interrupt. Bimet informs us about this and goes to chase them out. Valefor stands with us at the door to see if anyone else is coming. Yes. Naked. With us. In us.

Fortunately, no one catches us and after the entire session we fall asleep in our knight's arms.

Ch5 - LEVIATHAN H-SCENE

The conversation that follows gives us some light on his approach to sex and to relationships in general. Which is… sad. It fits him perfectly, but it's sad. And I would also like to analyze this someday, this character is beautiful and how he's written is even more beautiful, especially from writer's point of view. He does not want the admiration of his people or the hatred of angels. The only thing he can believe and consider to be sincere is that someone's dislike. This is something that might actually turn him on.

At first he rules, he asks questions and he hangs us. And he does everything he can to piss us off. He hands us a whip and lowers us down.

Just disliking him isn't enough, and he works diligently to make us hate him. He insults Minhyeok, us, wishes us dead, and the more he sees our anger, the more he gets excited and talks more. He knows that we are connected to Satan and we will know how to release our anger. On him.

He finally got what he wanted. We straddle him and, with the help of Satan's strength, begin to strangle him. Neither you nor he are gentle.

other than that uhh. not really a hot take but i’m a little bit put off by a lot of the mainstream cycling community’s attitudes towards diversity in cycling? after bini spoke about his experience being a rider from eritrea and the lack of representation that exists for african riders in the tour this year, there was uh. some weird dialogue and a really strange amount of defensive pushback that i noticed in some online communities (stuff like “the peloton is already diverse” “making a big deal over nothing”, standard accusations of special snowflake behavior etc etc). i absolutely understand that the vast majority of infrastructure for cycling as a professional sport exists and has developed within europe and that automatically makes it so difficult to expand on a similar level to other continents, not to mention all the moving pieces that concern how a country’s development, economic status, and culture influences what sports thrive in those regions, but i’d truly love to see the sport grow!! i just hate how bringing up stuff like this makes you have to walk on eggshells so no one feels like they’re being accused of racism— that’s really not the point man 😭😭 having to coddle people before even bringing up the possibility of inaccessibility and discrimination in the industry is just really frustrating. also it’s such a multifaceted conversation that is rooted much deeper than just the professional level— we need to be addressing inequality and introducing diversity in youth spaces and that requires a culture shift on many many different levels + better examining all the socioeconomic factors impacting sports pipelines etc etc

"everyone is doping" and "nobody is doing anything that bad" are both bad black and white statements and don't take into account any amount of nuance of the real world!! Actually, imo most riders may be doping - or at least, interpreting the WADA / UCI rules in a way that is favorable to them but they are absolutely NOT doing to similar levels. And they have vastly different levels of responsibility to the current doping levels of the peloton. I think we're currently in a very bad phase of the sport doping wise - like not inventing anything crazy here you just have to look at the speed averages and the climb records and legit any interview of older guys about to retire or just retired talking about it and insinuating HEAVILY about it. It's been absolutely stupid since 2020 and every year since then it got dumber and there's obviously an arms race going on between jumbo and uae.

And this IS pushing everyone else to dope to keep up. Also I will not even bother arguing about whether your pogis and jonis are doping or not because pogi has the most thermonuclear staff of the sport like it's the evil avengers around him (just look up Matxin and Gianetti's previous achievements in the sport e.g. saunier duval if you're bored one day. you will find awesome things.) and jonas isn't beating him clean. God bless <3 Anyways my point is that some team management / riders are responsible for making it worse in the first place + coincidentally they're the ones with the endless fundings to put into R&D - because in the end testing will always be behind whatever new enhancements they manage to find.

Then there's the side of. Is it really doping? Is it medical malpractice? Is it actually dangerous? Like if they're just abusing the effects of some loophole in medication and......... Well I'm sorry. This argument drives me crazy. As if misusing medication hasn't always been a gigantic public health issue everywhere around the globe?? Take the tramadol ban for example. A thing various riders still active in the peloton were caught for so you Know it was widespread. It wasn't even banned because it enhanced performance but because it's an addictive medication that has side effects on your concentration and it was believed it was one of the main causes for dangerous unexplained crashes during races 😭 it's also like "Uhhhh yeah but increasing EPO with altitude camps isn't banned but blood transfusions Are??" well yeah maybe one of those is more of a health risk than the other. Ever thought about that. A substance being banned or not actually doesn't say much about about the health issues it could cause, and since we're currently smashing some of the most insane records of cycling (RIIS HAUTACAM YOU'RE NEXT!!) you can bet that some of the things they're taking are more dangerous than let's say. ketones. and even the carbon monoxide huffing room drama is probably only scratching the surface.

I guess my main point with this is that for me, doping, fundamentally, is a health issue and not a performance issue. But the performance is a clear reflection of the levels of doping that are currently happening behind the scenes. So I have a hard time putting on the same level a guy who will dope to keep up with the increasing speed and level of races, and a guy / team who is responsible for that increase in the first place. And they also obviously don't have the same team management / budget to be able to put together the same Medicalization Programme. I don't think this is an issue you should just wave around with a "oh they're all doing it" or "i'm sure they aren't doing anything that bad" when it's just wishful thinking. There could and there probably will be consequences, physical and mental wise - and that's just scratching the surface, let's not even talk about how this will incite people to try to dope younger and younger. ^_^

lol anyways lets stop here. i dont think it's much of a hot take for people who have followed the sport for a relatively long time but. yeah.
