Kaishin Reveal and What It Means For You

Okay I need everyone to keep their shit together because I think this is being blown out of proportion. What follows is a quick rant about what the hell is going in the DCMK fandom and what is going on in fandom in general cause I don’t know why I’m seeing so many people lose their shit over something that was most likely going to happen followed by a quick lesson by a ‘fandom elder’ on how to ignore canon and make a ship your own. 

Spoilers ahead and whatnot. 

April 11th the DCMK 27 movie came out and information was revealed about how Kaito Kuroba and Shinichi Kudou are now cousins. Twitter lost its mind, Tumblr lost its mind, Discord servers are being created and now everyone is wondering what the hell should they do. 

I’m going to be honest, if you are a creator for KaiShin, please don’t delete your work. 

Either archive it or orphan it but please don’t delete it.

You put time and effort into this, into something you love, and just because the mangaka is so SO set in his ways of every single ship being friends to lovers does not mean you have to follow the same format. This doesn’t make you an incest shipper or whatever, it doesn’t make you a person who you don’t want to be, it’s just something that you had no idea of knowing was going to happen and I hope that you can look back at it fondly. 

Anyways, for those enjoying Kaishin on the sidelines all I’m going to say is Pick a Lane. 

Ignore Canon 

If you are an old time shipper then this may not be new for you. I mean Gosho literally had another ship that turned out to be cousins like at this point it’s ‘who is my cousin’ being played in the entire Detective Conan manga. You either already guessed it, are an active incest shipper (hi, hello, tis a me) or you are used to your favourites dying. This situation is no fucking different. 

Wolfwood is dead, in my head he is alive and well and treating his Plant husband right. 

Sora is missing, not in my head where he is kissing Roxas and Riku and Kairi and whoever else wants to get at the sunshine of the KH universe. 

Ben is dead, NOT IN MY REYLO FANFICTION. 

If you are a person who actively kept up with the manga or actively kept up with the show it is possible to ignore canon because they do not suddenly go super deep into being cousins and knowing about each other. They both don’t know if they are cousins or else the jig would be up immediately and the manga would be finished. You CAN ignore canon and if Kaishin is a ship that brings you joy and just serotonin production I implore you guys to choose this lane if you still want to enjoy Kaishin. 

It’s by far the healthiest option and teaches you how to curate your own fandom experience. 

Alternate Universes and You 

I was in the Hannibal fandom for a while and I clearly remember the ‘Hannibal is not a Cannibal’ tag on AO3. I thought it was hilarious but I would never dare to make fun of it because that is a prime example of CURATING YOUR FANDOM EXPERIENCE. 

Here are some examples on how you can start tagging:

Or just make a quick blurb of how you mean this drawing/fic to be perceived. Again, this is your experience and you get to make the space you want to make. It’s up to you to make/interact with the content that makes you most comfortable. Again, if you want to delve into AU’s then that is up to you and I think it’s a pretty good lane for those who just feel weird about the whole reveal. 

Stepping Away

Your moral values are your own, people, and I am in no position or even want to judge them. If you feel uncomfortable about this now, see your love for Kaishin diminishing because of the reveal or just don’t see yourself shipping Kaishin in the future then you are more than capable of measuring your response and stepping away from the ship entirely for your own health. 

Is it going to be sad? Yes, but they are fictional and I recommend having an idea of what you have in your life outside of fandom that makes you happy that you can focus on as you go through this. College, work, whatever hobbies you may have taken up–hell put all your eggs into another ship that you know also brings you joy! 

Do not let this dictate your day or your month or your year. This is just fandom, you don’t have to make a big statement unless asked about it, you do not have to justify your decision to anybody, curate.your.fandom.experience. 

I’m going to end this with a repeat of what I just said. 

This is all fictional. We are playing in a fictional sandbox where we can all make whatever we want in any capacity and as long as it is tagged correctly then nobody’s lines have to be crossed. If you just started enjoying Kaishin, find out how you still want to enjoy it or step away. If you have shipped Kaishin for a while, do the same fucking thing! The east side of the fandom is having a field day with the movie, why can’t the west have some fun too?! 

I’m going to ship Kaishin (however all my reblogs will be moved to my other blog for incest-y stuff and just other content people may not vibe with in general) and hell I might just join the Kaishin Big Bang for the hell of it because I have been shipping this ship since I was 15 years old and I’m about to be 30 so….I’m staying fucking seated cause you aren’t getting me out of this chair, Aoyama, you aren’t getting me to ship Aoko with anyone other an Akako so suck on that.

Switched: KID centric, FREAKING BODY SWAP, and so well written too, very fun read.

Guide you home: I love the Guide/Sentinel universe so much, this has romantic KaiAo, Heizuha, ShinRan, and lots of other platonic combinations, this is also a case fic and emotional.

Identity: One of my favourite scenarios, OCCHAN AND RAN BEING AWARE FROM THE BEGINNING, MY HEART-

Code Red: KOGOROU CENTRIC, let him shine!

The Cloning Secret: do you want to read something absolutely heart-wrenching, disturbing, yet absolutely brilliant? Go no further. We warned: this is a work in progress.

Misconceptions, Illusions, and Lies (and Other Forms of Fair Play): I absolutely adore this fic, the idea of Ran and KID working together, also bonus points for different POVs, also a work in progress.

Shenanigans in Beika: one of my ultimate favourite fic series, off all time, the interactions in this are just way too charming and precious and dear. Also a work in progress.

until the flowers bloom again: same author (yes, one of my favourite authors, sue me) as Shenanigans in Beika, involves the Detective Boys and ShinRan, and my heart just... gosh, this fic is so precious.

Hidden Epidemic: I love the first part the most, but this as a whole has a lot of headcanons incorporated into it that I love to bits. Lots of POV changes, and so many characters (Detective Boys, Heiji, Kazuha, KID, Ran and so on)

pet: super short, but also SUPER CUTE, absolutely in love with the idea of Ai having a cat. (one of my favourite authors for the fandom)

(the space between) where you smile and hide: one of the very few and precious Kazuha POV fics, especially her thinking about Shinichi. (also one of my favourite authors, and if you like one Hattori Heiji, I highly rec holly's other fics too)

Observations: my ultimate favourite fic involving Takagi Wataru, part of it is from his POV too, and it has so many great things about it. (VERMOUTH!!! Also Heiji and Satou working together! And most importantly: Takagi finally getting an answer to his Question.)

All Night Gang: I ADORE THIS FIC SO SO SO MUCH, THE FACT THAT KAZUHA AND RAN GET TO FINALLY KNOW. Also the adorable chatting in the first part. All the different POVs later on. And all the FEELINGS AND HEADCANONS AND THE THING THIS FIXES ABOUT CANON FOR ME. I'M so grateful for the existence of this fic.

Nothing To Lose: Detective Boys, PRECIOUS CHILDREN, they just miss their friend, this fic made me so emotional, dammit. SHINICHI YOU FCKIN IDIOT-

Family of the heart: God. This fic. THIS FIC. I LOVE PARENTAL MOURI KOGOROU WITH A PASSION.

never were and not anymore: this series? Damn. The shapeshifter concept in it is MARVELOUS AND MASTERFUL. The way it got merged into the universe, and how it changed events. Also THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS KILL ME in the best way.

Scion: I absolutely adore this author, and this is one of my ultimate favourite fics involving Shinichi and KID. The supernatural element is so exquisitely fitting into the universe, and how Shinichi's feelings are so complex, and the teamwork... just. Everything about this fic pulls at my heartstrings.

As for personal headcanons for Shinichi/Conan, here is a few:

Shinichi/Conan is neurodivergent as fck. I personally like to think he is on the autism spectrum, but I'm very flexible on the exact nature. One thing for sure: he is not neurotypical. At. All.

HE'S A CERTIFIED PENCIL BITER YOUR HONOUR!!! (IT'S NOT EVEN A HEADCANON AT THIS POINT- *GETS HIT*)

No one can tell me, No One, that after all these traumatic experiences this child doesn't experience panic attacks or PTSD.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE STOPPED PLAYING SOCCER, HE LOVES SOCCER!! (The kids are totally the reason he got more involved in soccer again, YOU HEAR ME-)

"Ummm... are you sure this is what Madame Kujou Sara told you to do..?" You looked at your lover quizzically, "Of course it is! It's a very effective training passed on by the Shuumatsuban itself" Heizou was quick to reply. "Would you really deny me your precious help, RobbiBabe..?" He used the nickname he invented just for you and gave you those puppy eyes you could never say no to.

"No, no..! It just sounds a little weird, that's all..." you were still perplexed, but you were too weak to Heizou's pleading eyes to say no to him. It was unfair how such a mischievous and cunning person could be so cute... He really had you wrapped around his pinky finger.

"Great! So, I'll explain you again what you gotta do." The detective started, every trace of sadness or plead gone from his face. "You have to pretend to be a criminal who has stolen something precious, and I'll try to get the location of the stolen goods out of you through an interrogation. This will help me to be quicker and more efficient when I'll actually interrogate someone!"

"Umm... fine, let me think about a place where I'd hide something..." you said while your brain gears were working to create a realistic scenario.

After a couple of minutes, you tell Heizou you're ready and give him permission to start this 'interrogation training'. He was taking this scenario very seriously, and it almost scared you how ominous he seemed when he looked at you as if you were a criminal, but after a while, you got more confident and even dared to give him sassy answers and witty remark. Even Heizou was somewhat impressed by how much you seemed to enjoy yourself.

However, you couldn't imagine what your lover was planning...

"Fine," he said at some point, "I guess I'll have to use drastic measures if you don't wanna talk to me. And I even asked nicely..." The look he gave you was threatening and almost disappointed, even if it was an act.

Before you knew it, a pair of mischievous hands were latched on your sides and squeezing firmly but softly. "Gh- aaaaeeeeehh..! W-what are you-" You started squirming in your seat, shivering when you heard a low chuckle coming from 'your interrogator'.

"I think you know what I'm doing, Robin..." The way the detective pronounced your full name made your eyes widen, "the Shuumatsuban is usually rougher when it comes to getting the truth out of someone... but torture is technically legal and I'm not part of the Shuumatsuban, so I gotta find an alternative way to make you talk. Tell me, criminal, are you ticklish?"

You tried your best, but you gave in way more easily than you wanted to admit to yourself. "Aaaahehehehehehe nohohoho!!!" You started squirming in your seat, but you did your best to remain still. "No? You aren't? Then this interrogation should be a piece of cake for you~" He said casually, as if his hands weren't slowly walking towards your most ticklish spot.

Your eyes widened in terror when you realized where they were going. "NO!!! Wahahahahait pleheheaha- NAHAHAHAHAT THEHEHERE NOHOHOHOOOO" You didn't even try to hold back your laughter when your feet were targeted mercilessly.

"IHIHIHI GIHIHIVEEE!!! IHIHI'LL TALK!!!" You pleaded, but you didn't expect your boyfriend to stop tickling you and start laughing boisterously. "Pfft- hahahahahaha I can't believe you really bought the interrogation training excuse!" He saw your perplexed face and explained better.

Isaac wasn’t used to celebrating his birthday. Everyone was too busy with Christmas. He couldn’t say that people didn’t remember it was his birthday. Some people did, but only on passing, as they usually had their own Christmas plans, and if they did something, it was always in the middle of their celebrations.

He sincerely wasn’t expecting this year to be any different, despite the big change there was in his life a few months ago.

It was still November and he was already worried, as he watched Reina and Arthur talking about plans for Christmas, as they hung decorations in the dining room, while he had gone down for a late breakfast. Everyone apparently working in other rooms.

Isaac wasn’t listening much to what they were saying, just a few words, enough to make out what this was about. Besides, they had a glint in their eyes, and talked excitedly but low, like two children planning a prank.

Of course they would make plans. They probably already had their own traditions from the years they’d been together. They would try to include him now, of course, but not go out of the way to change things just to accommodate him, right?

And he didn’t want them to have to, but a part of him hoped they did.

He understood a few reasons why people celebrated Christmas. He understood that the two of them had been together for years before him, and had a hard time building a tradition that pleased both, when they had very different ones individually.

Isaac also understood the need of the two of them having something that was especially theirs as a couple. Because, although they were three now, the two were still a couple. As were him and Reina and, as strange as it still felt, him and Arthur.

What would they have built if it had been the three of them from the beginning, instead of Arthur and Reina having a couple of years to build something on their own?

Would Arthur be feeling the same if it had been him and Reina instead?

Of course not! That was Arthur he was talking about. Arthur would have walked up to them and made a teasing remark before asking what they were planning.

Or Arthur would make a casual suggestion as his way of asking if you had plans.

He would probably have already guessed everything you might be planning, anyway, and would find a way to get himself involved.

Sometimes Isaac wished he could be that assertive. Right now, though, he didn’t even have an idea of what he wanted.

Why was he even thinking about it now! Christmas was still a month away and he didn’t even know what exactly they were planning.

Maybe they were making plans for Christmas Eve only. Or was he being too hopeful?

Isaac could feel himself heating up, he wasn’t sure if it was his anxiety or embarrassment at such needy thoughts. When had he turned so needy?

“Hey, Newt!” Arthur turned to him, and Isaac quickly looked away, now really embarrassed at being caught staring. “You’re so red. Not thinking of anything naughty, are you?”

“I’m not like you.” Isaac protested.

“Maybe not, but you were moaning so much this morning. I can’t help but hope you were dreaming of me.” Arthur reached out playing with a lock of his hair.

“I-I know nothing about that! But if I was dreaming of something I’m sure it was with Rei.”

“Told you!” Rei skipped over to them, sitting on Isaac’s other side.

“So, Isaac, do you have anything in mind for Christmas? We thought of surprising you, but we would rather we decide together.”

“You already have plans, don’t you? Things you used to do without me. I could just join you on that. I don’t have any particular Christmas traditions myself.”

“What about for your birthday?” Arthur asked. “Anything in particular you want?”

Isaac’s eyes widened as his heart sped up. Arthur and Reina laughed and he found himself blushing again.

“You were worried we would forget, right?” Reina leaned in to kiss his cheek.

“Who do you take us for, Newt? We would never forget our boyfriend’s birthday.”

“Well, we haven’t been together for that long and…”

“I think nearly ten months is quite long.”

“Besides, what time has to do with it? You’re not getting in the way of our plans, Isaac. We want to include you, in any way you find comfortable.”

“Of course we would like to share our plans with you, but that would be an exchange. We want you to have something to share with us too.”

“So, if there is anything you want for your birthday, don’t hesitate to tell us. Unless you want us to make that a surprise. Because I have a few ideas.”

“No!” Isaac had a very good idea what kind of things Arthur had in mind. “I’ll think of something.”

Arthur and Reina chuckled.

“That’s quite a shame, luv.” Arthur kissed his cheek. “If you change your mind, you know you just need to ask.”

“That’s not going to happen!” He protested, probably even redder than before. He couldn’t get used to Arthur saying these kinds of things so casually, somewhere anyone could walk in on them.

But as much as it was embarrassing, his lovers didn’t fail to make his heart race and his body warm up in ways he would never admit. Despite their teasing manner - especially Arthur's, - after all this time, even Isaac knew their interest in him - be it in his company, his opinion or in sharing things with him - was genuine.

Isaac wasn’t used to so much affection, but he couldn’t deny how he loved it and sometimes craved it to a shameful extent.

“Think about Christmas and your birthday, though, okay?” Reina hugged him. “We’re really looking forward to our first together.”

“Though, I still think we need…” But whatever Arthur thought, he was cut out by a powerful voice from the hallway.

“Aren’t you two done in there?! I hope you’re not playing around while everyone else is working.”

Isaac froze, looking at Arthur, who was so close they could have kissed if one of them made a wrong move. He wasn’t ready to everyone to know he and Arthur were together yet. Thankfully there were more voices in the hallways and Theo didn’t walk in.

“We’ll be done in a minute!” Reina shouted back.

“Well, get moving then, or we’ll leave the rest of the work for you.”

“Sorry Newt. Seems like our little rendezvous will have to wait.” Arthur stood up. “Or would you like to join us? It’s not our own private tryst but we would love your company.”

Arthur offered him a hand, but Isaac wasn’t sure if he wanted to join everyone.

“Or you can wait a little and help us decorate mine and Arthur’s rooms. But we won’t mind if you don’t want to.” Still, Reina also stood up and offered him a hand.

And Isaac took their hands, letting them pull him to his feet. It wouldn’t be so bad with his lovers. It never was.

“Fine. I’ll go. I would like to spend more time with you too.”

“Thank you, Newt. It will be more fun with you.”

Both of them leaned in and kissed his cheeks, while intertwining their fingers with his.

None of them made a move to leave, knowing they couldn’t walk out like that. Until Arthur finally let go, giving Isaac a peck on the lips and positioning himself on Reina’s other side.

Isaac looked forward for some time alone with the two. Maybe he wouldn’t mind some small decorations in his room. It didn’t matter what they would do for his birthday, as long as they did it together. But he would make sure their first celebration together would be worth remembering.

What’s your favourite AU that you’ve written?

My best AUs are for Philinda lol. My favourite is Committed to the Cause, a POTUS/USSS one with Coulson as the president and May as his head of security.

If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?

My ideal chapter length to write is 4–7k, which is also about my ideal chapter length to read. Maybe my reading ideal is on the shorter end, so more like 3–5k, but gfhjsgdhs that’s not too big a difference.

Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

There are a few that come to mind. The main ones are literally anything by @indilwenofmirkwood (but especially What Makes Her Tick, which can be read here on AO3 and here on FFN) and Kismet by @midnightlovestories (can be read here on AO3) for how they developed plot/romance, analysed my comfort character, and got some whumpy goodness snuck in there. The former is for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while the latter is for The Addams Family.

Feel for You by @parksanddownton603 (can be read here on AO3) made me fall in love with a specific tone of AU and gave me the motivation to try my hand at writing an AU like they did (also for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). On the flipside, Defensive Wounds by @rebecca-in-blue (can be read here on FFN) is an in-universe fic but I greatly admire the characterisation in it and would love to know and honour my blorbos as well as they do. It’s for NCIS.

Another one for the Addamses, Human by @unhappychildhavingfun (can be read here on AO3) packs the kind of emotional, meaningful punch that I want my writing to throw. Though I also aspire to churn out numerous one-shots that just put my guys in situations the way @suallenparker does (if I must name particulars, the ones that affect me the most in this way have been Bulletproof, Lifeline, Safe and Sound, Liar, Mayism, Second Chances, and Being Someone Else, all for Philinda hfjsgdhhd).

And can’t play dead by @widespindriftgaze (can be read here on AO3) is…simply some of the best creative writing I’ve ever read. I love how they dabble in various, sometimes small/short-lived fandoms; I long to do that.

What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!

I am currently working (well, focusing) on A Galling Yoke, my Sherlock Holmes x Reader exes-/friends-to-lovers casefic. (It was actually supposed to be enemies-to-lovers lolol.) I’m like a third or so into Part 12, and I’ve got like seventeen chapters planned total plus an epilogue. Exciting stuff!!

“It shall not happen!”

You straightened in your seat, shoulders tensing. Sherlock groaned and dragged a hand down his face.

“I meant not to be…domineering,” he said. “But […] am I not to assume that you came here…for a reason?”

He and you looked at each other for a long, open moment.

I grabbed that out of the middle of a conversation for Maximum Suspense. I cut out […] because what I have written there currently is a bit of a placeholder. There was another part I wanted to share because it’s got a long quote from Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton”, but I figured that excerpt was a tad too spoilery. I’m sure you guys will prefer this romantic tension anyway. ;P

I'll try my best to describe myself:

Ok so I am originally from South Africa but I moved overseas when I was 12, I have ADHD (possibly undiagnosed ASD and CPTSD as well) and I am a major, major theatre kid. I tend to be very energetic and have a very golden retriever like personality. I tend to be very touchy with the people I'm close with since physical touch is my love language as well as words of affirmation. I sometimes struggle with social cues and a lot of other things. I often find myself missing my old life in South Africa but at the same time feeling guilty for missing it because there are so many more oppurtunities for me in my new life and sometimes I feel like I am being ungrateful for said oppurtunites when I find myself missing my home country.

I am a huge animal lover and currently have two dogs and a leopard gecko, I am the oldest sister so I feel like I have to protect everything and everyone I love and sometimes don't leave room for me to look after and protect myself if that makes sense. I love Taylor Swift, Conan Gray and David Kushner as well as a lot of broadway and west end musicals, I am queer and I want to be study vetrinary technology.

I am mainly in the Hunger Games fandom at the moment as well.

You and Elliot broke up a few months ago after a long roller coaster of a relationship. By now you were starting to heal and while scrolling through old pictures you found yourself smiling instead of crying.

That was until tonight when you heard a knock on your front door, only to open it and see his brown eyes at the entrance.

“What are you doing here?” You asked, emotions rushing through you at the sight of him.

“I just wanna talk,” Elliot replied. You looked away from him. “Please?” He begged.

With a sigh you stepped aside, letting him inside your house. Telling your conscious that you were only doing this because it was pouring outside and cold.

“Please don’t ruin this for me,” you muttered.

“What?” He asked, glancing over at you as you closed the front door.

“Please don’t make this harder than it already is… i’m trying to get over this,” you said, staring at him. Elliot frowned.

“I miss you, Y/N,” Elliot said. “I miss us. I can’t live without you, I feel so empty.”

“It was for the best Elliot, you know that,” you said.

“It wasn’t for the best, stop saying that,” he said, slurring his words.

You squinted your eyes at him. “You’re drunk, aren’t you?” You asked. Elliot wiped his eyes, trying to hide the tears slipping out of them. “I just want to put you in the past, Elliot,” you sighed.

“Don’t you understand? I can’t put you in the past, I can’t move on from you, Y/N,” Elliot replied.

“We’ve retried like a million times now,” You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose. “It’s hard to find and end to something that you keep beginning over and over again, I promise that the ending always stays the same.”

“Y/N-“

“Elliot, there’s no good reason in make believing that we could ever exist again!” You yelled, glaring at him. “I can’t be your friend, can’t be your lover, can’t be the reason we hold back each other from falling in love with somebody other than me!”

“Please, just hear me out.”

“I’ve heard you out a thousand times over. I wish that you would stay in my memories,” you said. “…but while you’re here, i’ll let you stay long enough to grab your shoes and your jumper and that one good cologne that I bought for you while we were fighting that you’ve left in my room since our first breakup.”

Elliot looked down at his feet. “You really mean this? Do you really see no future between us at all?” Elliot asked.

Your lip quivered as tears welled in your eyes. “I wish I could say yes… but no, Elliot, I don’t. All you’ve done is traumatised me,” you said.

Elliot sighed, sadly. “I’ll grab my stuff then,” he said, reluctantly walking towards your room, leaving you alone in your kitchen as you burst into tears.

You had told each other that when you grew up, you would be together for the rest of your lives. You followed through on your commitment, but he didn't. Here you are, with all of your childhood memories flooding back, promising each other that you would love each other eternally forever. However, sometimes an eternity is only a minute. You were holding on to the promise you two had made when you were young.

Maybe that was the problem. When you were younger, all of your promises were broken. Is it because he forgot or because he couldn't maintain his word? I'd forgotten about all the stuff you two used to do when you were younger. He was your best friend, your love, and your home all at the same time. It hurt your heart to watch your best friend, lover, with someone else. Every time you look at him with someone else, all of your memories of you two come flooding back. All of the games you and Draco used to play, and the way you made each other happy when the other was sad. Wasn't it all for the love of it? As a symbol of your two, he even offered you a promise ring. But that was then, and now is now.

I respond because I appreciate when anyone takes the time to let me know their thoughts, so I like to take the time to let them know how much I appreciate that ❤️

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I don’t typically write angsty endings, my angsts have happy/hopeful endings! But I suppose my most solemn one might be Moment You Loved Her (back).

7. Do you write crossovers? I have an unpublished Naruto/JJK crossover as well as a Naruto/MCU crossover though I’m not sure they’ll ever see the light of day.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? I feel like this is a right of passage 🤣 I’ve been hit by g.o.d of course but I’ve also gotten harsh critics/hate on my first time travel fic A Shift in Space (now abandoned) as well as on Let The Truth Sting by a salty SS lover.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? I probably write too much smut xD Mostly het ships and F/M/M threesomes as well as the occasional M/M. As to what kind … well, all kinds. Established relationships, one night stands, friends with benefits, drunk sex, first time, cheating, trying for a baby etc etc.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Surprisingly, and unfortunately, yes. Rivals was reposted on Wattpad without permission.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yep! A few of my fics were translated to Russian and one was translated to Portuguese. A collaboration I did with @sayurinomoe for KS month 2017 was translated to Spanish.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Okay I absolutely LOVE when this happens in other fics. I was gonna recruit @sayurinomoe to help me do Italian dialogue in my Chef Kakashi one-shot. I will most definitely incorporate Spanish once I’m fluent enough. I’ve even thought about including Russian dialogue but I still need to figure out who to ask for help 🤣 // but anyway considering that English is not my first language, I am already technically doing that!

“Yahtzee!”

“Nooo! Wait! How! Gaah, next game!” you exclaimed from the leather seat opposite Arthur, sending him a death glare with crossed over arms.

“Not had enough yet, Luv? My, how you must enjoy defeat so,” the cocky words were spoken belonging to the British author who now wore a wide triumphant smile at yet another victory claimed.

Ooh, you wanted nothing more than to wipe that smug smirk right from his face; the only problem was Arthur Conan Doyle was a master at all games and puzzle alike— and you had absolutely no chance at winning. No matter the challenge, he would rise to the occasion and steal victory from right from beneath your nose— even if you were the goddess of luck herself, you doubted you would be able to secure victory.

“I’ll show you defeat,” you sneered, taking a sip of your whiskey mix and watching him set up the next board with hawk eyes. He must be cheating? Right? There was simply no other explanation as to how this man would be able to win at games he had never even heard of before, much less played.

Or perhaps he— “it is not luck. I assure you, my darling bird,” his blue eyes lifted to meet yours, cunning smile on his lips, cutting your thoughts short.

How did he do that? You glared at the man wearing a mix of shock and horror. Infuriating, you thought, especially when he all so amusingly seemed to chuckle at the expressions you made. “Would you believe me if I said it was magic,” he asked with enthusiasm, leaning forward with bright eyes.

Again he seemed to read your mind, answering your inner thoughts out loud. You narrowed your eyes at him apprehensively; you knew vampires existed, yes? But magic? There was no way. “Prove it,’ the words left your mouth as you found that despite the side-eye delt, you inched closer in curiosity.

“Abracadabra,” Arthur spoke the familiar words of an old friend and produced a small box from his sleeve.

“That’s not magic, you big ol cheat! That’s just a trick!” you huffed, rolling your eyes at him— but mostly at yourself for almost believing such a thing to be possible.

“Poppycock! It’s not just a trick! It’s magic! After all, how else would you explain the appearance of this magical box out of thin air,” he hummed, holding the dainty blue velvet box out towards you. With another roll of the eyes, you reached out to take the box from his hands.

“Most definitely not with science, that’s for sure,” you spoke with hints of sarcasm behind your teasing grin, fingers pulling at the ribbon atop the box. You carefully opened the lid, not entirely sure what to expect— after all, it would not be the first time you had opened a gift from the man only for it to be some or other good-natured jest.

You held the box away from you, opening it cautiously while closing one eye, the other eye barely peeking open to a squint to catch a glimpse of the box’s contents carefully.

You half expected a flurry of glitter to shoot out from the inside and puff straight into your face— you know, as a way to prove fairies existed or whatnot.

Arthur sat back in his chair with crossed legs and a fond smirk over his lips, “I do hope you like it Luv, the fairies worked awfully hard to construct it,” he quipped with a snort, only adding to your suspicion.

Finally, you opened the lid to reveal two pairs of dazzling red dice, shimmering gently, as the light from the fireplace reflected off the smooth crystal surface. You had to smile— of course, Arthur would cutely attribute the glitter within to the magical pixie dust of the fairies he loved so much.

“Now that I have passed on some of my wizard powers, highest roll starts,” he spoke, getting back into the game mode as he placed on his polka dot glasses while sending you a flirty wink.

He leaned forward, resting his chin on his folded hands, waiting for you to roll the dice; only instead of rolling your new set of crimson, you mimicked his movements. No way you were going to roll first, for all you knew, these dice might be just as cursed as the previous ones.

“After you,” you spoke, sliding your new dice towards the man.

His blue eyes met yours challengingly as he picked up the dice, giving them a gentle shake in a mock roll before placing them before you once more, “ladies first’ he winked with a smug smile.

Ah, if he thought you were going to back down from the mental challenge so soon, he was sorely mistaken. You fixed him with a determined glare of your own, “Age before beauty, I insist,” you said with a wicked smile, once more pushing the dice towards him.

He rose to the challenge, letting go of an amused snort, not making any effort to move, as blue eyes met yours with a lifted chin, “Beauty before the beast,” he spoke full of confidence. No matter the game, or challenge, Arthur never liked to be bested. Be it by his friends, family or lover, losing was not an option.

“Men before hens,” you spoke again smugly, crossing your arms, leaving the dice right where they were on his side of the table. “I could do this allllll night long, dearie, so you best hurry up and roll,” you added for good measure.

With a chuckle and shake of the head, Arthur relented, swiping the dice of the table and shaking them in his hands, “very well hen, since it’s your birthday, I suppose I shall back down just this once.��

He blew on the dice, a good luck ritual of sorts, before throwing them down on the table.

The game was now afoot!

You could tell by the glimmer in his eyes he was already planning, strategising, plotting, if you will. Was this his plan all along, to go first? You shook the thought from your head, focusing your attention on the snakes and ladders board. You needed to keep your wits about you if you wanted to win this game. 50% luck, 20% skill and 30% pure divine intervention— thus, you started to pray. The stakes were high, and the reward even higher.

“Twelve,” you practically squealed out in excitement at the outcome of the first roll, looks like the prayer worked, now to keep up the momentum. Taking a swig of your drink, it was finally your turn to roll the dice.

Somewhere between the smack talk and fun, you and Arthur had upped the stakes, adding a rule to include a shot taken for each snake you were to descend down. Needless to say, you had lost count of the number of shots that had passed your lips as you were very much past well-toasted at this point.

Dimming and brightening, you struggled to keep your eyes open, determined to finish—determined to win.

“Yes! Take that, Arty, down the snake you go! Ha! Drink up sunshine,” you chanted, filling Arthur’s glass to the rim with gin while getting up to do a little premature victory dance. However, your victory celebration seemed to end all too soon, with the next roll sending your straight down the very same snake.

”For Fudge sake!” you yelled, throwing yourself back into the chair— the image of yourself flipping the table in frustration playing in your mind’s eye— bringing a smile to your lips as you took another sip.

The night continued on.

It wasn’t before long Arthur was officially declared the winner— albeit he had to announce himself the winner as you were now ‘resting your eyes’ busy fighting yet another losing battle.

“Ah, I believe I win, now for my prize,” he sang out, downing the remnants of his glass and towering over your resting form.

“You ought to be more careful, Luv. What if I were to pounce on you, honestly, bird? What am I going to do with you.”

He crouched down, sitting on his heels as he slowly reached out to gently pull his fingers through your silken hair. Suddenly you shifted, falling forward—forehead landing on his shoulder, you murmured a little, snuggling closer to his warmth before breaths softly evened out once more. “You really are quite a troublesome drunk, aren’t you, dove, “he cooed, hand moving from your hair to tenderly stroke your cheek.

In one swift motion, Arthur picked you up, “upsy daisy, there we are, now off to bed with you, my darling.” You shifted again in his arms, nose nuzzling further into the cook of his neck. He smiled down at you, blue eyes filled with nothing but pure love and affection, before carrying you off to bed.

He gently laid you down, tucking you beneath the sheets before dropping one final adoring kiss on your forehead. “Happy birthday, my darling bird,” was all he spoke in a soft whisper before extinguishing the light and tucking you in his arms, drifting off into a blissful sleep of his own.
