Here's what happened: I'm currently reading (listening to the audiobook of) a French book in translation that a friend recommended, and I am super annoyed with the translator's repeat phrasing of "little young lady," particularly in dialogue.

It's really getting to me. I figured it was a translation of the French equivalent to Mädchen, or an alternative sarcastic or derogatory diminutive, like "missy" or "little lady" (via context clues in the book). So I looked up German to French and got mademoiselle (duh), and then reversed the search (cus you always reverse the search, especially when there's no verification) and... if I am not mistaken, Google Translate has equated the French Miss (n. title for a young lady or single woman) to the German to miss (v. to regret the absence of something).

Am I crazy? What is this? Who approved the constant phrasing of "little young lady" in an English translation of a French book?? Is there anyone still running Google translate? Is this book AI translated? I have so many questions.

Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.

LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.

Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.
