Yeah, I saw that, both in the scogan and scogean tag, with posts even including the character name tags. Like. Not cool, people. Way to make authors feel shitty who have been guarding the ship lighthouse for the last 20 years. Claiming in the most popular tags, there's only like 1 good fic among more than 1500? Wow, okay. So I was very happy to receive your ask. Let's counter that negativity with some awesome scogan reads!

Can't do any scogan rec list without including the leading authority on the subject. @scottxlogan is the author who pulled me into this ship years ago, not to mention they're a great friend, unbelievably talented writer and artist, and they deserve all the love. Damaged is surely one of their most ambitious projects and deserves every single view, kudos and review out there. Set in the DOFP finale verse that is no doubt the author's specialty, the story comes with an alluring, intricated plot that leaves you on the edge of your seat along with all the feels.

@strangenewwords is a fairly new and dearly beloved addition to our group at @scoganbingo events, but she's already made a huge impact with her delicious smut and angst stories that hit you right in the feels. Technically also brillant, the linked story is definitely one you don't want to get spoilered for beforehand because the ending will leave you in absolute awe and tears. The author doesn't shy away from including the darkest sides of Scott's past but handles every subject with the necessary care and respect, and as I said ... You don't want to miss out on all that delicious smut!

The Day Before the Soldiers Came by Cerylid

Cery is offering a much-needed fixit for the team dynamics between the X-Men and Logan before X2 with this story. It comes with a lot of humor but also far more feels than you expect. The texting is hilarious but it's the quiet tones that get to you.

Speaking of fix-its, since that negativity in the tags kinda got to me, too, I might just throw in one of my own works here too since I also got lots of Scogan stuff out there.

is basically my go-to X3 fix-it. You look for something to make that movie right, you got it all right there. Along with a bit of horror (we are talking about resurrection, after all) comes a dramatic rescue mission in a mental limbo, and you get an Avenger and Emma Frost guest-starring. There's a couple of follow up chapters that explore both scogan and Tony/Emma a bit further, and we even get a Laura version in old movieverse along the line, and of course all the nasty nasty smut you guys are here for.

It’s originally from C/C++ code. If you have a boolean variable that’s true or false and you put a ! in front of it, it just flips the value. If the variable is X and X is true, then !X is false. what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? I honestly just picked Kagome up after having played Inuyasha, Kikyou, and then Naraku as main muses...The RP group I was in in the ancient and not well-known any longer AOL chat rooms had everyone but a Kagome. So, I made the screen name Kagome ex Miko in 2002 (which I still have as an AOL email to this day) and my miko was born. and--she just stuck with me...and has stuck with me for over two decades to this day.

is there anything you don’t like to write? There are ship games I won't touch with a 30-foot pole, but if I speak truly--I can be up for just about anything, as long as it gets interesting.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? I love a good AU~Those are always fun! And you never know where it'll go or end up. Mostly though, as said, I'm good with just about anything.

how do you come up with headcanons?  Most of my headcanons come through the playing of my muse...Something happens during the game and BAM that's a new HC. Also, I tend to make headcanons that go against the grain of what the majority of the fandom takes as fanon. Like for instance-unlike common fanon, I HC that Kagome's dad was a jackass and left her Mama and her shortly before Souta was born. Also, I HC that Kagome is in fact NOT Kikyou's reincarnation.

do you write in silence or do you play music?  Depends, I multi-task while I write, so sometimes I write while something plays in the background, and sometimes I don't.

do you plan your replies or wing them? I don't plan my replies. The few times I've tried--I never wound up using them. So, winging all the way!

do you enjoy shipping?  I am not a ship whore with my Kags...lmao. Her and Inuyasha are like the only characters I have ever had that I cannot STAND shipping them with anyone else other than each other....and Kikyou. I will not lie. I can, will, and do ship them with Kikyou, too.

Hello! I'm Vincent (or any nickname of Vincent) I'm 22 years old and an avid horror fan with a main interest in Halloween , Scream, and Dead By Daylight. So this somehow ended up in the ichiruki tag despite the anti tag and I was going to ignore this but its one thing to not ship a couple and another to spread blatant misinformation or half truths. Whether it’s because you’re just regurgitating things you’ve heard/been told or you truly believe you are right I’m not sure but based on your reblogs, you are clearly someone who either ships ichihime or simply favours them and are repeating their favourite talking points. This is not an attack on you but rather a criticism of that fandom and their constant need to spread misinformation so I’m going to address each of your points that are partly incorrect or just completely incorrect.

I KNEW ichigo would end up with orihime, because kubo made it obvious.

Just wanted to point out that ichihime translators were NOTORIOUS for purposely mistranslating the manga to further their agenda .

with the actual translation being

R:そのままでいいのよ R: You’re fine just as you are right now. R: 。。。あんたも朽木も R: …You and Kuchiki R: 一護はまだ一人で立てないガキだから R: Ichigo is still a kid and can’t stand alone, so R: 今のあの子にはあんたも朽木も必要なの R: Right now, that child needs both you and Kuchiki. R: 妬いて何がカッコ悪いの R: What’s so bad about jealousy?

This is the most egregious but there are more that downplays ichiruki’s relationship. I’m not going to comment more because everyone has a different interpretation and honestly we can argue till we’re blue in the face and neither of us will change opinions. Moving on to the misinformation:

“The anime cut a lot of canon ichihime moments and included tons of filler ichiruki moments, so its no wonder why so many people believed at first ichiruki was a thing.”

I agree it did cut out canon ichihime moments but guess what it also cut significant ichiruki moments including when Ichigo activated his fullbring thinking of Rukia, significant amounts of scenes from memories in the rain, cut out part of farewell swords. These are just to name a few. I only included ones that I think are particularly meaningful to their relationship but there are other little interactions that were cut, particularly early on in the first arc including everyone at school thinking they were dating.  

Furthermore, Kubo has repeatedly talked about how he liked the ichiruki fillers the anime added. 

Even ep 342 which people like to call out for being almost completely ichiruki filler was one that Kubo praised.

Unlike the first two movies where he only designed the characters and Hell Verse where he actually demanded his name to be removed from the credit, Kubo was involved in Fade to Black from beginning to end.

There are more instances where Kubo praises the bleach musicals and the bleach live action, both of which are heavily ichiruki centric. In particular the live action has Renji saying Ichigo and rukia are “emotionally involved” and that he killed her boyfriend. Based on interviews we know that Kubo told the staff "don't change the characters' relationship". Director Sato Shinsuke confirmed that Kubo checked the script beforehand and approved it.

Finally when asked, Kubo did not see the anime pushing ichiruki. This entire narrative that the anime pushed ichiruki and that Kubo hated ichiruki fillers has no basis and digging even a little deeper completely rebukes them.

And to be fair to kubo, he made clear statements back then about ichigos and rukias relationship being pure platonic YEARS BEFORE the manga ended, but the shippers ignored that and played victim afterwards.

This is also untrue. The common translation of the fade to black interview where Kubo talks about their relationship is "More than friends, less than lovers" however this is in fact a watered down version of what he actually says. 

友情とも違うし、恋愛感情でもないんですよね?、2人の関係は

“To say it is friendship is wrong, but to say it’s romantic / dating relationship is also not quite right don’t you think? Regarding these two.” He then proceeds to say this about fade to black:

Question: What bits do you want everyone to focus on? Kubo: “The relationship between Ichigo and Rukia. Their change in their own feelings

 In another interview when asked

SJ: Do you have any plans to make Ichigo and Rukia a couple? Kubo: I'm not going to confirm nor deny that. [laughs]

These are both responses in interviews from back in 2008. Nowhere does Kubo say their relationship is pure platonic nor does he indicate that he will never write them in a romantic relationship. In fact he leaves it very much in the air and depending on who you talk to, it sounds like there is a very real potential that he was indeed going to go down that route. One of the key visuals in the guidebook of FtB has Ichigo calling out to Rukia, calling her his soulmate. I also can't find it anymore but I also remember him telling people to bring their partners to watch fade to black as well.

The best part was how not that long ago he completly destroyed an hardcore ichiruki shipper on social media who attacked him and insultet ichihime and kubo was just like: “you know what? FUCK YOU! From now on I will make even more ichihime content just to piss you off even more asshole!” 

I honestly don't know or remember who that person was, they could've been an ichiruki shipper, they could’ve been a general reader. You seem to forget that Orihime was a polarizing character among general readers as well and barely placed in the top 10 in character polls. Regardless he did not say anything like that what he said was 

“To Orihime fans and readers who nonchalantly enjoy BLEACH that unfortunately saw the abusive language when I retweeted it: I apologize. However, there is zero possibility that I'll change the way I draw to suit others, so please don't worry about it.” 

And he also told the anti’s that if they have the talent they should draw something themselves. And nowhere can I find him ever saying that he would draw more ichihime.  

He simply gives a fuck what people think and just does his thing no matter if people like it or not.

Pretty much the only accurate thing you’ve said. He’s always had a reputation of being a major troll but I wonder how he felt when his decision got Bleach categorized as a gag manga.

At the end of the day, he’ll do what he wants and the ending is the same but this collective amnesia and rewriting of bleach fandom history is absolutely ridiculous. 

Isn't all of the rabid BKDK shippers similar to that one pairing in Bleach where the loud shippers want one pairing and the Editors suggest that the Bleach's author should do it, but he explicitly stated that he wanted this pairing instead because its his story? At best, the official canon ship for Izuku would be Izuchaco or implied of it or no ships at all.

At least Hori agrees with us that the BKDK relationship is abusive and that the two would be treating each other as acquaintances who just happen to grow up together. And the thing is for that BKDK contest, he acknowledges the skills of the artists but the relationship is not romantic at all. So it's really just people being extremely obsessed with the idea that any and all relationships should be romantic instead of platonic. I wonder if he was expecting a badass action scenes between the two working together instead of causal romantic times?

Do you happen to have a citation for the contest so that we can point towards the fact that BKDK is just for fun, not canon?

I remember I saw horis reply somewhere on twitter between 2 or 3 years ago. But I dont have twitter, well X know, anymore. Honestly, I dont quite remember if it was a bkdk fanart contest or just an exhibition. And I think it was only japanese artists. But basically, while he praised all the fanarts and the talents of the artists, he made clear that the way bakugous and izukus relationship is portaied as in these fanworks is not what their relationship is really or ever was like. There were tons of romantic bkdk and fanart of them as children playing happily with each other. He basically confirmed as unbiased as possible that this kind of interpretation of their relationship is completly fanon. Maybe someone who reads this can give us a link though, I tried to find it with google, but google only showed me reddit and quora posts about "why bkdk is canon" and such stupid stuff. 🙄

And yes you are right, the bkdk shippers are VERY similar to the rapid ichiruki shippers back then. Mind you I WAS THERE when the shipping war between ichirukis and ichihimes was at its highest and believe me it was UGLY and for me who never shipped ichigo with either rukia or orihime it kinda destroyed the manga/anime for me back then and its one of the main reasons why I dont like shipping in generell anymore. But despite never shipping it myself I KNEW ichigo would end up with orihime, because kubo made it obvious. Hori on the other hand would never make this kind of bold statement, because he is aware of the backlash that would happen. I like hori and I can understand why he wouldnt want to upset people because he was attacked and got death threads in the past already from stupid shippers, but I have to say tite kubo is clearly the braver one of these two. He simply gives a fuck what people think and just does his thing no matter if people like it or not.

I haven't been actively tracking it. But I enjoy reading chronologically through ship tags (for which my friends call me a psychopath but i digress) and I've been going through Kirk/Spock lately and I have some interesting findings. Some are like in relation to tos vs. Aos though so this is a slight highjacking of the post for my own benefit

In general Kirk is definitely more often on the bottom but the amount of bottom Spock is much higher than most fandoms would have for their established top, at least the ones I've read fanfiction for. I'd say it's about 60/40 maybe slightly more Kirk than that. A lot of newer fics are tagged #can be read as aos or tos but are actually very obviously aos characterization so that can conflate bottom Spock in tos like around 5% I'd say

Kirk also rarely complies with modern bottom stereotypes. His character might not always be exactly canon but they don't tend to butcher him to comply with his relative position.

Switching is casually mentioned in fics fairly often but not always tagged if it doesn't happen in fic. Which is also kinda rare for fandom there's not usually a lot of verse characters

Quite often Spock's only a top due to pon far. Whether they would continue that dynamic outside that time isn't always clear which muddies the water as well. Tos Spock does tend to be more aggressive during pon far too so the treatment of bottom/top isn't quite the same as most fandoms. It's not usual to find clear headed bottom, overwhelmed/almost helpless top in fic so like even with their sexual positions I don't know that it was the height that was the factor I really think it's pon far that determined their most common positions.

But that brings us to aos observations which isn't relevant to the post but I gotta talk about it.

Aos Spock is way more often portrayed as the bottom. Like significantly more. Probably due to Kirk's aos personality I'm guessing???

Really interesting to compare as modern fandom shipping standards are applied and Spock tends to be cast as the shy bottom which is a... choice for his character.

A lot of fans who were fans early on in the movies existence also had no idea pon far was a thing but once the newer fans found out about it they tended to go a more submissive route with it.

I haven't gotten to a year where omegaverse is widespread in fandom yet so I have no idea how that might affect how the fandom treats the characters but from what I've heard some fans say it seems its popularity lead a number of people to treat pon far like a omega heat cycle. Which honestly in my opinion they're only vaguely similar in concept and not actually that alike when you actually dig into them. so it's going to be interesting to read newer fics and see how that effects newer tos fic too.

I appreciate that, as far as I can tell, K/S fic doesn't seem to have a fanon consensus on top vs bottom. Almost like--stay with me--those are preferences and not personality traits
