Do it for them - Co-captain reader x Curly
Previous - Part 9 - Next
You banged on the door of the room where that man was locked up, waking him up abruptly.
"Let's talk"
Jimmy: "I thought visiting hours were over."
He complained, turning around to turn his back to the door.
"Don't try to be funny with me, Jimmy. What the hell did we do to deserve so much hate from you?"
Jimmy: "Don't play innocent, you know very well what you did!"
"Honestly, I have no idea! That's why I'm asking you!"
Jimmy: "Of course, because I was always the shadow of your dear husband. You never turned to look at me again after you got with him, you never smiled at me like you did with him, you didn't even speak to me. It was as if I were invisible to you!"
"Oh, of course I was looking at you!"
Jimmy: "Then why didn't you ever tell me anything?!"
He shouted that, getting up from his bed to head towards the glass that separated them, watching your face to see you when you replied.
"BECAUSE I'VE ALWAYS HATED YOU!"
You screamed with all your lungs, to the point of making your throat hurt.
"You always brought trouble to Curly! He was always so naive, a sucker for approval, of being the good guy in the story, of not letting anyone down! That's why he never abandoned you! I knew better that's why i stopped talking with you! Because you were and are a piece of shit!"
Jimmy: "Oh, but you talk as if I were the only fucked up one in the story."
"Yes! I admit it! I was also a mess when I met Curly, but I did something, I was able to see beyond that mess I was, he showed me that I could improve, he gave me opportunities that I knew how to take advantage of and become a better person! In someone who could make his mother proud instead of making her cry because she didn't know if he was coming home or not!"
There was a silence when you finished saying that, until you saw him smirk, that reaction you didn't like at all.
Jimmy: "You're right, Curly loves to please, you should know that very well."
"Ugh, for the love of God, I don't know why I try to reason with you, it's impossible."
Jimmy: "But you were the only one who refused to give in to make me happy."
You opened your eyes wide upon hearing that, turning again to the man who still wore that smug smile.
Jimmy: "Just as beautiful and messed up as I am, I thought you would understand me, but then you became a good girl, yet I still hoped you would look at me..."
"Shut up-"
Jimmy: "Oh, and the damn way Curly talked about you, how incredible you are, so kind, hardworking, so beautiful."
"I tell you to shut up-"
Jimmy: "Those lovely moles in the center of your chest that look like a constellation"
"He wouldn't talk about those things with you!"
Jimmy: "I saw it myself"
You felt like you were going to puke at that moment, you didn't want to believe that he had really done something like that to you while you were unconscious, you didn't want your suspicions to be confirmed, you refused to believe it.
"Liar. Anya wouldn't leave me alone, she would lock the nursery door-"
Jimmy: "Yes, yes, she did that, it was a pain in the ass. Every night when she went to sleep, she locked the nursery with that code that only Curly and she knew... But that place wasn't closed while someone was inside."
"She wouldn't let you get close to me!"
Jimmy: "They were so sweet, Anya staying by your side saying she had to make sure all your signs were okay, and when she left, she would ask Swansea if he could keep an eye on you. But he was so depressed that he didn't dare to stay with you for long, so... I took his place to make sure you were okay."
"In front of Curly..."
You murmured at having to imagine the scene your husband had to witness without being able to do anything about it other than watch.
Jimmy: "That was the funniest thing"
You hugged tightly, feeling a horrible tingling all over your body, as if you were dirty.
Jimmy: "Swansea had no idea about anything, Anya didn't want to talk about it with anyone else. Thanks to her silence, I was able to finally look at that body that you always hide from me, thanks to Swansea's stupidity and feeling sad for his little captain, feeling all guilty and shit."
Swansea: "What did he just say..."
You turned to see Swansea at the end of the hallway, carrying Jimmy's rations, holding an axe firmly in the other hand; he had managed to hear everything.
"Swansea-"
Swansea: "Open the door, captain"
"Listen - it's not worth it, do you have any idea what they'll do to you if they find out you hurt someone from the crew? Please, I don't want them to lock you up."
You said immediately, positioning yourself in front of him, trying to get him to see you, but his eyes were glued to the door where he could see Jimmy's face.
Swansea: "How are they going to know? Let's say it was an accident. Open the door!"
You wanted to keep reasoning with him, but you couldn't deny that you also wished he would face consequences for his actions.
You took the axe from his hands, making him look at you annoyed.
"I won't take the risk of you killing him."
Those were your last words before opening the door, Swansea didn't take much more than a few seconds to fully open the door, step inside, and throw himself at Jimmy.
You could hear the sound of the blows, the insults, and the screams.
You stood at the door wide open, axe in hand, watching as the blood spread across the floor with each blow Swansea dealt.
You watched Jimmy and tilted your head, waiting for him to defend himself.
You wouldn't hesitate to cut off his hands if he touched Swansea.

Ellie being the bully of reader but secretly being like very obssesed and possessive over them. Maybe even in a secret casual relationship but being rlly jealous.
I've decided I will make this into a series, so please enjoy!
"shup up Ellie"
Warnings; transgender!ellie, semi enemies to lovers, Ellie plays rugby and so do you, weed usage, Ellie is a jerk lol, pure angst and fluff.
fynn = brother
Ellie fucking Williams, your brothers best friend- she was probably one of the biggest bullies towards you, even after you graduated high school, she would constantly throw slurs at you or make you feel bad about what you were doing. It never mattered what it was, you could just be making food and Ellie would comment on how you're making the food wrong even if you were doing it right.
"Fynn! Come have a look at this fucking idiot" she called your very stoned brother over who laughed at you after you spilt chocolate powder all over yourself. "Ellie it's not funny"
"It's fucking hilarious dude" Fynn says trying to calm his breathing as he laughs even harder, "funniest shit ever, anyways me and Ellie are going to go play video games, don't interrupt us" you scoff, before moving to grab a cloth to wipe up the floor, looking up from the floor you see Ellie still staring at you.
"Bro what do you want?" you ask her and she shakes her head "you look pathetic by the way, you're clumsy as fuck and you need to stop spilling everything" you wanted to cry, Ellie always bullied you, even if she took it too far she never apologized to you. "okay" you say with a tired tone, so done with her shit.
It was 9pm and your parents weren't home yet, but at least you finished baking your brownies! You sigh before grabbing a few and putting them onto a plate, making your way upstairs quietly and knocking on your brothers door softly to see if he's still awake after almost hot boxing the entire house.
Ellie opens the door and a massive amount of smoke blows into your face, you cough and start moving your hands to get rid of the smoke "bro what do you want?" Ellie says with a frown.
"I just wanted to see if you wanted some brownies I made, nothing personal" you hand her the brownies and she looks at you, maybe the only time you've seen her genuinely thankful for something you gave her.
"thanks bro" she mutters under her breath and you give her a subtle 'you're welcome' before shutting your brothers door and making your way to your room...
You sit cross legged on your bed and open your mac book to finally get some school projects done, before you know it three hours had passed and there's a knock at your door.
"come in?" your voice low, but sweet. it was so intoxicating. it was Ellie, you have a confused look on your face- her eyes red and looks like she had been crying but it was just the weed
"it was uhh." she itches her ear, "it was good, thanks" you study her face, and she's being genuine "if you want more go for it" you sigh, closing your laptop.
"you coming to the game on sunday?" she mutters out, "ellie if you're here to bully me or whatever just don't bother with it, I'm done with your shit"
"i'm trying to be fucking friendly for once" she spits out and it gives you a slight shock "right" you nod, she rolls her eyes and slams your door pretty loudly, making you flinch.
You ended up going to the game on Sunday, which fucking sucked- you and Ellie were on the same team during rugby and your team lost by almost 30 points and you didn't know what to do...
You were sitting in the locket room with Ellie, fiddling with your bracelet begging Ellie won't try to talk to you.
"you did good out there" she mumbles to you "huh?"
"I'm saying you did good, we probably would've had it if Bredon didn't fucking injure his foot half way through the match" you giggle and agree.
"Nice bracelet by the way, where'd you get it?" Ellie moves her attention from your wrist to your eyes, you hum and decide if you should tell her or not "my grandma gifted it to me before she passed away"
"Oh- I didn't know I'm sorry for your lost" she says in a sympathetic tone, to say the very least you were confused about why she was acting nice to you... It was slightly overwhelming, you decide the tension is too think and you can't handle it anymore, you say bye before grabbing your gear and going out the locker room.
"Hey hun, that was amazing!" your mom hugs you tightly, you roll your eyes knowing she was only trying to be nice even though you lost, by A LOT.
Ellie was going insane, she felt crazy for the awkward interaction with you "really Ellie?! Fucking 'nice bracelet'" she groans, pulling out her phone and sitting on her bed defeated- she knew what she was doing was wrong but she couldn't help it, she was obsessed and it was unhealthy, even she knew it.
She unlocks her phone before typing in your name on Instagram and following you, she sighs and flops down onto her bed.
Before she knows it, you accept her request and text her.
She shoots up and looks down at her phone to see your notification that says 'hey, did u mean to follow me?' she groans loudly, feeling awkward and didn't know what to say to you.
Hey yeah I did mean to..
Oh k
I don't wanna seem weird rn but what you doing over the weekend?
nm, y u askin?
Wanna come over to mine?
els if this is a game, just don't
Her heart thumped at you calling her els, she hearts the message and replies back fast.
Its not, I'm being genuine
Come over at 7pm tmmr?

How DELTATRAVELER is the funniest UT fangame by complete accident.
Over the course of the past year, I've talked a ton about various UT/DR fan-projects and my thoughts regarding them and their writing. One fan-work I have talked extensively about on various forums and threads being DELTATRAVELLER. For a while, I didn't know exactly how to feel about this game. It felt like an enigma to me.
The game was enjoyable to play, it was entertaining to read. Yet I could never get myself invested in anything regarding the game's narrative or characters. It was as if the game was unintentionally written to obliterate (pun entirely intended) any and all chances for narrative investment in its story and characters. What the game did have over me was that it had me in histersics for the majority of its runtime. Yet, paradoxically, none of the jokes written to be funny landed for me. For a while I didn't fully know why and how it made me feel about the game as a whole. How can you say you enjoyed something a lot whilst also laughing at it and acknowledging that under any other circumstance, it wouldn't be something that you'd consider to be good?
Spoiler alert: I found that answer, which I will now be explaining to YOU in weirdly esoteric detail !!!
But before we start, let's start of with the basic premise of DELTATRAVELER for those not in the know.
What is a "DELTATRAVELER"
DELTATRAVELER is a UT/DR fangame about Kris, Susie and Noelle being isekai'd from a Post-Chapter 2 DELTARUNE into the worlds of various different video games and UNDERTALE on a quest to find a way home. The game was inspired and made off the back of "GOD FUCKING damnit KRIS where the FUCK are we!?" which was a very popular meme at the time of DELTARUNE: Chapter 2's release.
Like DELTARUNE, the game is divided and released in chapters (dubbed 'sections' by the devs). Each chapter is set in a different world and has the Shit Squad (The objectively best name for the heroes) explore, fight and eventually find that world's "grey door" which serves as the end goal for the chapter as that will take the Shit Squad to the next world after the boss of the chapter is complete. In total the game is slated to have eight total chapters with what they are based on being revealed in advanced:
Chapter 1: UNDERTALE
Chapter 2: Earthbound
Chapter 3: GG!UNDERFELL
Chapter 4: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Chapter 5: TS!UNDERSWAP
Chapter 6: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Chapter 7: Toontown Online
Chapter 8: The Dark (the game's finale)
Currently as of this post, DELTATRAVELER is still a work in progress with Chapter 3 being released back in December. As a result all discussion of the game of the game will be on Chapters 1-3 as those are what's out right now.
I think I should preface this post with me saying, I don't think DELTATRAVELER is a bad game, quite the opposite, actually! I enjoyed my time with it.
Mechanically, the gameplay is really well done, the physics feel very on point to UT/DR, which is surprisingly rare for a lot of UT fan-games. It felt like I was playing UT/DR and was rewarded for the skills I had gained from the collective hundreds of hours I have played these games.
Visually, I think it looks very solid and charming. Seeing various locales and characters from other games being translated into UT/DR's iconic, sometimes janky artstyle is always cool to see and it will be very interesting to see how games like A Link to the Past are adapted in future chapters.
Musically, I think the game is fine. The original songs in the OST doesn't have anything I'd point to as "bangers" but also doesn't have anything I thought was particularly hard to listen to (With the outlier maybe being Eye for an Eye. The obligatory Megalo for the Sans fight in the GG!UNDERFELL chapter. But even then, I wouldn't even call the song "bad". I just don't like it too much and that's fine! just how music taste works.)
But to get to the main point. The most intreasting thing about DELTATRAVELER to me, is the way the game is written which has proven to be quite the controversial topic within the broader fandom which is what I'll try to give an in-depth and nuanced disection of but to put a long story short, I don't think this game is written well. Most of the core issues I have with DELTATRAVELER's writing can be attributed to a single, fundamental flaw. That being how the game handles it's "tone"
Explaining Tone
In writing, Tone is a very multi-factor concept, working as the bedrock for a given work. To put it simply and cleanly, tone is basically "the vibes" of a given thing. Tone can come in a lot of different flavours. Whether that be the tone of a given scene, the work itself or even the tone of an entire series. Tone is important as keeping tone consistent with itself is one of the major factors in narrative investment. It essentially tells the audience what they can and can't expect from a work of fiction.
Let's use this as an example:
You're watching a movie, in the movie there's a scene involving the protagonist having an anvil inexplicably dropped on their head by the antagonist.
If this movie was a comedy for children and family, the tone of this scene would ensure that this be as funny a punchline as possible or the set up for a funny punchline. This expectation built by the previous events of the story shields the narrative and characters from anything that might be too ill-fitting for the "comedy for child and family tone" it's trying to go for. At most the protagonist could be expected to suffer from a Loney Toons-like knockout rather than ending in a hospital bed with a shattered skull. Or, at worst, splattered and crushed across the pavement in an intensely gruesome fashion. If that happened, it wouldn't pass the story's "vibe check" which can cause something that I'll be calling "Tonal Whiplash"
If you want an example of "Tonal Whiplash" and the effects it can have on the audience, look no further than Shadow the Hedgehog
This game, to be frank. Is fucking hilarious and this is in part due to the mere concept of the game about Shadow using a gun breaking the tone set series-wide by other Sonic games and media in the past. (Expect Sonic Adventure 2, that has similar issues to a lesser extent)
It takes a series about stopping egg-themed villain from ruling the world to trying to assassinate the president and watching as a innocent girl gets shot in the back by what is basically, the USA military. And it all tries to do this in the Sonic series' iconic, albeit rather corny writing while also intened to appeal to older kids and be "cool". It leaves the game being kinda a clusterfuck even beyond just its tone issue, in a very funny way.
Now, this isn't to say that breaking tone is necessarily a bad thing all the time. Sometimes it's intentional, a way to make a moment hit harder, surprise the audience or all of the above. However, breaking tone is a narrative risk and if it fails you risk hurting the narrative investment your audience has within your work and to top it off once tone has been broken, it can't really be put back together with a story. You'll basically be shifting the tone of the story from that point on.
An easy example of this tonal shift is UT itself with it's Geno Route.
How UNDERTALE handles it's tone
UT's tone is one that acknowledges its nature as a video game with the usage of diegetic game mechanics like SAVING and the battle system.
This has many unique effects, for example means things like death as a concept is something that is treated rather lightly within the game's tone, the game even joking about it on the occasion. It's rather pointless treating death as anything other than a slight inconvenience to the human when you directly acknowledge that they can undo it by simply not wanting to die.
This treatment of death intentionally clashes with how it's treated when you kill monsters in a Geno Route. Papyrus is a shining example of this. Being something of an emotional obstacle for the player. Designed to make the player feel shit. Basically UT's writing is effectively, unapologetically trying to guilt trip you as another test of your determination to see this run to its completion.
The emotional weight of this scene is less carried by the idea of death and more so the fact that you hurt one of your favourite characters and won't see him anymore for the remainder of the run. It's more character focused, if you've already begun to withdraw your narrative investment and attachment to the characters or if you simply just don't give a fuck, it's not gonna make you feel anything. It'd just be another monster to slay, another number to increase.
Now you might find yourself wondering. How can UT be funny and sad without it leading to side effects normally seen by "tonal whiplash"? UT is funny, sure. There's a lot of jokes, each joke told in UT is a joke told by either a character or the world. Each joke means something beyond it being a funny line. But UT can also be heartfelt, like the walk up to Asgore. It all further fleshes these characters out making them feel more deep and layered, it treats it's world and characters not as jokes to be laughed at but as people, people who can be funny, people that can be sad and down even if you and the game both know that deep down, they aren't real. Just bundles of pixels and dialogue for your entertainment which is what makes Geno's clash work.
Your attachment to the characters and world. It's sudden, yes. But that's why it hits. NPCs vanish and their absence is felt, the once lively music replaced with a slowed drone. It all feels empty. It's dark, all because you have killed the things that gave this game its "light". UT's tone is something that . The tone of Pasifist runs reinforce and bring greater impact to Geno runs and that's why it feels less like tonal whiplash to the audience.
Now, let's get to DELTATRAVELER. If we want to establish how DELTATRAVELER establishes a tone for itself what best than analysis the beginning?
How DELTATRAVELER handles it's tone
After an amusing title screen and a quick file selection, we open with Kris and Susie on a bed of flowers, the first room of UT. After a brief moment of the two getting their bearings, they stand up and Susie turns to Kris before saying "God Damnit Kris! Where the hell are we?!!" fit with a silly pose and sound effect. A reference to the meme that inspired the game's creation.
The next scene is in the very next room and it's encounter with Flowey. Here he attempts the same speech he said in UT before Susie cuts him off, gets him to spill the beans that he was actually after Kris' SOUL before getting into a battle. Where they make a joke about DR battles being different from UT battles before Susie bashes her HUD into Kris' creating a unique one that DELTATRAVELER uses before blasting Flowey away with Rude Buster.
Off the cuff, DELTATRAVELER isn't really being serious. So far it's spent the first couple of scenes essentially making jokes around the characters, world and basic premise of the game and the game will continue to do this with inclusion such as Ralsei smoking a blunt, referencing a meme of the same name and Noelle making expressions referencing both a popular SpongeBob and MegaMind memes. On its own, this isn't really a bad thing, sure I may personally find it very unfunny but the game starting off with various memes isn't even a negative in principle, it just indicates that it doesn't want the audience to take it too seriously, which if that was the intention, would be fine. The issue DELTATRAVELER has with it's writing is that it unfortunately does want me to take it seriously.
The game makes an attempt to emulate UT's writing style, attempts to have serious moments sprinkled amongst jokes. However, unlike UT, DELTATRAVELER's brand of humour is basically solely self aware memes. Oftentimes, made at the expense of its own characters and world, leaving the moments where the game actually wants to be taken serious to fall flat.
Things like Kris' nightmare during Chapter 3, where they wonder why they are cursed with our control before lamenting about how much they want to rip their SOUL out and destroy it. Before crying out that they "Don't want to die alone." Doesn't have the impact the game wants it to have, because prior to that point, the game had basically already told the audience not to take the game too seriously, thus hurting any narrative and emotional investment the player could form with this interpretation of Kris as a character leading up to that point.
The same can be said with DELTATRAVELER's Geno Route equivalent, dubbed by the devs as The Obliteration Route watching the game in one route go from, "Ralsei Dobbie! No Bitches? Vine boom!" to beating and slaughtering a beloved protagonist and watching the kid bleed out on the ground as the other fights for revenge whilst a cover of (fucking) MEGALOVANIA starts playing in another takes what should be a very climactic and emotional moment and turns it into the single funniest boss fight I have played.
And that isn't counting the various other characterization issues present throughout the route as a whole. Characters like Noelle and Susie have no real reason to help Kris with the run once they notice them seemingly going around looking for people to slaughter. DELTATRAVELER especially when the game then goes out of its way to show the player that both party members have the digetic ability to reject the player's control, to the point where they can refuse to enter battles with Kris entirely.
But they don't, they'll even attack Ness and Paula under a certain percentage of health even after Susie tells explicitly Kris to not kill them. It leads to the game putting the blame on Kris and then The Player for a situation Susie and Noelle also have established agency over. Susie can help and kill a ton of monsters yet still be pissed at Kris for what is, under the game's internal logic, still a choice she chose to follow. The game tries to remedy this via Chapter 3's talk with the trio and it's better, sure. But it still leaves the writing in this strange place of hypocrisy with the characterization to me.
One scene that sticks out to me as particularly odd being after a secret Gaster lore dump cutscene on an Aborted Obliteration run has Noelle say:
"Kris..."
"If you were serious about not having control."
"You would've done it."
Directly implying that she thought Kris should've jumped off the cliff... which is just a strange inclusion, I feel is... Done more so to enlist a reaction in the player rather than creating important moments that respects the world and established characterization.
On the topic of weird characterization, let's talk Sans...
In the GG!UNDERFELL chapter, the main antagonists are Papyrus and Sans. Papyrus, is written, pretty recognisably from his Canon Counterpart. Sans however? Is a mess and a wonderful mess, at that. They take this very edgy, unhinged approach to his character, making him into an insane killer type of character similar to AUs like Dusttale. Throughout the chapter, he tries his damnest to kill Kris and take their SOUL, talking vaugely about a gurdge that doesn't ever get elaborated on. This approach creates a dynamic between Sans and Papyrus, where Sans is basically on Papyrus' metaphorically leash. Reaching a breaking point where he kicks Papyrus off a cliff, rushes at Kris like a feral dog before being being thrown off the bridge, leading to his battle.
His battle... oh my god his battle! It was easily the best part of the game, to the point it had to have its dialogue rewritten, the reason for this being honestly something I cannot begin to accurately describe to you while also doing the scene justice. So here's a clip from Andrew Cunningham's playthrough.
This isn't even the ironic either, this was just how Sans was written. The tone takes itself very seriously, this creates this type of divide where the game has already conditioned you not take it seriously, while trying to take itself completely seriously. It's peak tonal whiplash and it makes the scene, and the fight as a whole, unintentional hilarious.
Final Thoughts
The weirdest part? I don't even care. I've spent the better half of this essay arguing the flaws in DELTATRAVELER's writing, and while I do think they are all valid positions to have, for me? I don't really care about it that much, it's these issues that make me like the game. It's really funny in a very earnest, albeit unintentional way and at the end of the day. It's entertaining to read and there is value there. It's why I am not big on the rewrite of GG!Fell Sans. His issues come from fundemental aspect of his character that couldn't be changed with a simple rewrite, nor should it have it been expected to, as a result however, it doesn't really fix his character for me, it just takes a big part of what I enjoyed from him away. It's sort of a shining example on how when creating, you do not have a choice on how other people see your work. Some jokes you might tell might land and be funny, but also to some, may be brutally annoying and that's just the beauty of the beast. There's always room to analyse, to see if what the creator wanted to convey reads back to the audience. But even if there is critical flaws with the writing, enjoyment of that writing isn't inheritantly attached to author intentions or even the quality of the content, it's a feeling, a subjective one at that. It's why I could say I don't like Sonic the Hedgehog and Kingdom Hearts for being too corny and cheesey but to others, that's exactly what they love about it, and there's a lot of value in that.
There isn't a correct way to have an opinion, a right way to like or dislike something. You like things for the reasons you like them, you dislike you dislike them and that's fine.
However, I do want to take the time in this post to address pretty plevalent fandom issue perpetuated by the wider.
In the past, the UT/DR community was, to be frank rather toxic and elitist, it still is, depending on where you look. Overtime though, there's been a shift, whether be because those types of people moved on to other things or simply grew out of that behaviour, it doesn't matter why just that it has happened. There's a lot more positivity in this community and that is great to see. All healthy communities need such things. However, I do believe that as a result of this, the fandom now is suffering from a "rubber band mentality" where we've pulled too far in the opposite direction, leading to what feels like ironically "toxic positivity".
A lot of people feel very passionate about these fan-projects and that should be celebrated. However a trend I've seen in this fandom, one which has had a net negative effect on this community, is how we as a community react to people voicing opinions/ making jokes or just talking negatively about these beloved works.
You see it a lot with works like UNDERTALE: Yellow, DELTATRAVELER, Inverted Fate, all of the big fandom projects. Everytime a critique or just a joke about a fan-work gets more than like 10K Views on social media, the entire fandom begins to fold into basically damage control, regressing into "can we just not be so negative about the super popular fandom work loved by thousands?" People that voice their opinions on these work, especially negative opinions, get dogpiled, mocked and dismissed because according to them they "don't understand the writing", "hate fan works" or are just being "bitter about works made with passion and love and should simply shouldn't engage", even when said people once taking the time to actually hear them out, provide criticism that's honestly pretty valid.
I'd understand if people were directly going after devs, commenting under their tweets, invading their own communities just to mock and be the answer to a question nobody answered. That is wrong and should be called out. Voicing how funny or even terrible you think certain scenes are on your public social media? Ultimately, that's harmless in the grander scheme of things and I feel like fans and creators should be mindful of how they react to things because at the end of the day. People are allowed to voice their opinions, they are also allowed to make jokes and laugh at the writing, they are allowed to do all of that. People want to treat fan works like works of art and I am right there with them, but if you want to do that, you have to actually start treating them like art and accept it's a completely subjective thing. People will have different thoughts about them and that's okay! The moment you start policing what thoughts should and shouldn't be expressed is when any meaningful discussion dies. This whole mentality that since it took hard work and dedication to make a fan project should be celebrated to the highest order and treated as an object of reverence, absolved from all criticism is a harmful mentality to fall into. A thing can both require hard work and dedication and also be criticised and joked about by people. These two can co-exist. One doesn't somehow counteract and invalidate the other.
For some, analysing and critiquing media is a fun thing to do! It helps you get a better understand of the medium you're analysing, what works and what doesn't. It's legitimately fun to have discussions about. Being negative about works, even if they are works of passion aren't the end of the world, especially when they are just posts made by people just minding their own business. Jokes? Shitposts? They should all be allowed, because that's also how some people enjoy works of fiction. And if you don't want to see it? Valid but there are countless methods available to ensure that that don't involve creating a "good vibes only" type of fandom environment that everyone is forced to adhere to. That helps nobody and only breeds division within this community, I think.

Dating Hanaoka Fujio
This is purely self-indulgent because finals are stressing me out and I needed something fluffy to keep me from taking a nap on the highway
Bf!Fujio who is the golden retriever in the relationship.
Bf!Fujio who doesn't care much about his studies but knows that you do so he offers to keep you company while you study (he's probably distracting you though low key).
Bf!Fujio who notices final exams are absolutely killing you so he takes it upon himself to force you to take breaks, otherwise, you sit in front of your work and forget you're a human who needs water, food, and sleep.
Bf!Fujio who is almost never late because leaves his meetings a few minutes early (if they aren't super important) to come and see you.
"Oi! Fujio! Where are you going?! We're not done yet!" (Probably Yasushi) "Sorry! I have to leave early to be on time to pick up ___ from school and take them home!" All of his friends: 👁️👄👁️ Fujio: *proceeds to pedal his bike so fast he almost smacks into your school's gate but at least he's there and ready to take you home*
Bf!Fujio who thinks of you when he doesn't have a fight to worry about
Bf!Fujio who never shuts up about you + playfully annoyed bestie Tsukasa who knows everything about you because Fujio never shuts up about you but at least his best friend is happy
Bf!Fujio who tells you all about Oya's factions, dynamics, and fights even if you don't quite understand.
Bf!Fujio who tells you about his negative feelings. Example: when he doesn't feel good enough to be Oya's leader, when he's sad remembering his grandpa and Grandma Sada, etc. (This boy deserves all the love in the world make sure he knows that)
Bf!Fujio who hugs you a little longer and a little tighter on the days he isn't feeling all that well
Bf!Fujio who thinks it is the funniest thing to kiss you, catching you off guard, and then running away leaving you confused.
bf!Fujio who loves how you also bond with his friends and help them when you can
Bf!Fujio who gives you a heart attack when he shows up at your doorstep late at night all bruised and needs his injuries tended to before he goes home so he doesn't also give his mom a heart attack.
Bonus points if you're a SWORD leader's younger sibling with that last point. Like imagine being Cobra's younger sibling who is dating Fujio but the kicker is that Cobra doesn't actually know you're dating because you tell him you go to Oya to see your friends, not your boyfriend and his friends who are now your friends.
Fujio shows up late at night after a fight needing his injuries bandaged, and you guys whisper as he tells you what happened and how he won. You guys are whispering thinking that if you're quiet no one will wake up, but you don't realize your older brothers actually went out for a late-night drive because none of them were able to sleep. So as you guys are like giggling and whispering, Cobra, Yamato, and Noberu walk in through the front door and you all just freeze and stare at each other because none of you know what to say. And of course, Fujio being Fujio will probably get excited and ask Cobra if he wants to be friends.
You: shit... how do I explain to my brothers why they just walked in through the door and there is a boy here uninvited? How do I explain that I'm actually dating this boy and I've been lying about why I go hang out at Oya all the time?! Cobra: Eye twitching. Why is there a boy in the house with my younger sibling? Who is this boy? Why is he busted? ___ you have a lot of explaining to do or I'm grounding your ass. Yamato: Ready to follow Cobra whatever he does because you aren't just Cobra's younger sibling you are THEIR younger sibling. If Cobra decides to ground you? Yamato is going to agree and give reasons why you should be grounded even longer. If Cobra lunges at the boy who's sitting in front of you? Shit so is Yamato because who is this bruised up kid giggling with his younger sibling at midnight? Noberu: The only sensible one who will listen to your explanation before taking any action. Will probably have to hold back the other two from attacking your boyfriend or rush their asses to the emergency room because they both fainted after finding out this kid sitting in the kitchen with you is your boyfriend. Fujio: "OH! HELLO! My name's Hanaoka Fujio, I'm ___'s boyfriend. They talk about you all the time and Murayama talked about you all the time too. I think you're so cool! Do you want to be friends?!" Cue Cobra fainting because wdym his younger sibling has a boyfriend?! AREN'T YOU LIKE 3 YEARS OLD?!
Probably gonna expand on boyfriend Fujio and Boyfriend Fujio + Cobra's younger sibling reader when I'm not drowning in final assignments.

Out of curiosity, why do you dislike Midnight Mass? It's really like hear your opinions.
it's just so fucking BORING!! the concept is interesting i do find the concept interesting (vampire priest who believes his vampirism is a gift from god) but somehow it was done in the least interesting way possible. sometimes there's like a minute where i thought "holy shit is it finally gonna get better" and then i watched the next episode and it continued to be exactly the same.
all the characters are basically exactly the same. i know it's by monologue flanagan but can they at least monologue in DIFFERENT ways??? dear god. he edited it himself and you can REALLY tell. the fucking ten minute scene that's just "what do you think happens after we die? vcnvncmrnwbvnjef vdmnnc cmnennwneetnewnnwbefnbrtnbemrbermnbmrbtrtbwnrebeb" is crazy who thought that was a good idea. god every character was so forgettable i think i remember like 4 names. genuinely i see people talking about a character and i have to look them up and i STILL don't remember them. don't get me started on the fucking therapy speak. also riley flynn is the most boring protagonist i've ever seen i can't think of a single personality trait he has. i can barely think of ANY personality traits ANY characters have.
i know we shit on his adaptations a lot (as we should) and at the very fucking least he didn't ruin another excellent work of horror with midnight mass but he is NOT a good writer with his own stuff either!! it's so BLAND. even when it's not boring it's bland and uninteresting. i know i'm biased i know i watch extreme horror to find artistic value in underlooked pieces of media so i'm used to "that freak shit" but he did nothing!!! he did nothing with his vampire priest! he was literally irrelevant by the end because he gave that antagonist role to some other character and he was never really the protagonist either. he was just there for a really dumb late-game romance plot/plot twist.
it's such an unbearable show and the ending isn't even good!!! its tone is so fucking weird like everyone dies and yet there's still a weirdly hopeful tone to it. i feel like that's a moment to REALLY lean into the tragedy. it doesn't have a happy ending but it also doesn't let you feel sad enough for it to be truly tragic.
also there's like three different types of vampire in the show and it makes NO sense why they're so different from each other. i'm not asking for extensive lore i'm just asking for consistency.
it's like 8 hours long and i know i've probably spent way more than that complaining about this fucking show but still a waste of my time. it just sucks so much. it could have been an okay movie but as a whole show it's so dragged out and doesn't DO anything with those eight hours. i don't mind a slow burn i really don't but a) the build up has to be worth something and b) it has to have something really really good at the end of the build up.
honestly it looks SO good in gifs and screenshots and fanart that it makes me wish the show was better because you could have a much better experience just looking at those and imagining a good show than actually watching it.
on the plus side if you DO watch the actual show riley's death scene is the funniest shit in the whole thing.
#asks#anti mike flanagan#i don't know if you've seen it actually but thank you for the ask i enjoyed ranting#that ten minute scene haunts me. it was so awful

you're a wannabe artist and domestic terrorist. do you ever meaningfully advance your goals in any fashion or do you just like to think about what it would be like if you did them? you impotently post about wanting to commit terrorism, and yet never do it. you're a thin veil of a person. youre a bad perfomance. you narrativise everything you do it's so transparent and embarrassing! lack of self awareness is the pinnacle of cringe. i can't believe I ever liked your blog.
This is...literally the most ridiculously parasocial ask I've ever gotten (which I'm sure you know is really saying smth, I don't know why I attract these type of followers but it is what it is). I am actually deeply fascinated by your perception of me & the fact that I'm apparently on your mind enough for you to feel betrayed & offended by me like this?? Wild. But anyways I'm just gonna respond earnestly bc I'm working a double rn, no one is in the center so I'm bored as shit but just know that this is the funniest thing I've ever received & I laughed for like 5 minutes before starting to type anything.
So like...first of all idk why this needs to be said but I am not in fact seriously aspiring to a life of terrorism-are you saying that bc I post about wanting to kill rapists but am not actually out there killing them?? You wouldn't know if I was bc I'm not an idiot who posts about committing felonies, secondly I'm a grown adult with a job & responsibilities to my family so I can't exactly go & throw my life away to become a vigilante for a few weeks then spend forever in jail.
As for the artist part, I mean...I write literally every day (& I talk about my various ongoing projects on here sometimes so idk how you missed that, real parasocials would know, sad!) so yeah I'm advancing in that respect lol. When I talk about my chronic procrastination it's usually me ignoring my novel for my screenplay ( which is much less likely to turn into anything by virtue of needing a producer investing hundreds of thousands of dollars rather than the option of just self publishing an e-book). I have a novel, two screenplays, & an album of songs that I'm almost done with, plus a ton of ideas for future projects I want to work on. If anything my problem is flittering between too many projects at once, if I could stick to one I'd have completed it by now lol.
Also if there's one thing I have in abundance it's self awareness! I'm literally the most self aware person on earth why do you think I refer to my dreams as delusional...it's bc I know being a famous writer/director is a crazy aspiration to have for a working class nobody with no money or connections. Why do you think I'm working as a crisis counselor & pursuing a career in the mental health field in the mean time? Backup plan!

Hamster nonnie on the computer get ready. This is a big heavy so buckle up... plz :b
Or I'm soaking your socks in pickle juice, your favorite fucking socks at that >:b.
Touching on a topic I've mentioned in the past; about how The girls are lucky the manager is the way she is.
People who have been on the team with the manager years before, make it a point to tell the freshman to "Be grateful that she's as understanding and empathetic as she is, don't take it for granted." I see the manger as someone who was doing summer training before she officially became the manger, and had some situations to deal with then and very quickly showed that she may be remorseful, but she will not put up with your shit.
I've talked about how the manager want's to be petty soooo fucking bad when the girls hurt her, or piss her off, or whatever; but she can't. She understands. Going back to the manager being an academic weapon I heavily suspect that due to the broken family she came from, she's taken Psychology classes to try and understand why. How does the brain work, why did her dad leave, why is her mom barely present.
She wanted answers so she threw herself into Psychology thinking that that was going to give her what she wanted, but quickly she realized the harsh reality of the actions of the people around her. It wasn't some chemical deficiency, It wasn't an Illness, people just sometimes are like that. This realization really took a tole on her, I feel like us as people have that realizations sometimes that people are just bad people regardless of what mentality they have. There was no excuse.
During this time she also got familiar with co existence within cause and effect:
Yes she is resilient, and she needs a break.
Yes she was sure, and things change.
Yes she forgives that person, and that does not mean acsess.
Yes others have it worse, and your pain is still valid.
Yes she gave it her all, and she needs to back up.
Yes her parent's did all they could, and their choices wounded her.
Yes she can understand the situation, your frustration, your emotions, and that does not mean that it was right to take it out on her.
And I feel like that ^ always sends the girls and even Geno into a loop. Of how understanding she it whilst also standing 10 toes down on that boundary that just because she understands, does not mean it was okay. Being stern yet caring, putting up a border for space because she needs it, but it's soft enough to touch when she's needed.
When any of the girls know they fucked up, while they may be hesitant, and sensing the aura the manger is giving them. They still feel comfortable stepping up and apologizing when they feel ready. She's build this empire of warmth and nurturing covered with fences full of thorns as a reminder of acceptance but stinging realizations.
There's that comfort but also that professional boarder that she also puts up, not to caring and kind to make it seems as though what happened was okay & they're back on good terms, but not cold and stoic enough to make it seem as through they've revived someone who is just their manager and a void of who used to be their friend.
-🐹(sorry not sorry for the angst nehhehhehhehheh)
oh my hod, you’ve done it again nonnie 😮💨😮💨 this is ABSOLUTE GOLD!!!!
she’s such a psych girly i’m so glad we agree on this because yes!!! she’s such a healthy communicator too bc she knows that if you keep it all in, it’ll blow up in your face HOWEVER she never pushes them to open up until they want to, cause she also knows that isn’t good either
I ALSO LOVE WE CAN GALK AB RHE FUNNIEST SHIT ONE SECOND AND THEN NOW WE’RE PSYCHO-ANALYZING HER ITS SO FUNNY😭😭😭😭😭😭
this entire ask is just chefs kiss 💋

who are some of your favorite fanfic authors?
oh god this is such a hard question bc I'm really bad at keeping track of fics I like. I really should use the bookmarks function, but I do not <3
of the fic writers I can actually remember, I've got a couple from various fandoms I've been in the past few years! for hlvrai, it's absolutely @localdisasterisk. their narrative voice is so distinct and yet matches each character they write so perfectly, and I adore their dialogue. Scorched Grounds is to this day one of the funniest fics I've ever read. even if you know nothing about hlvrai, you should read this fic because it is hysterical. also risk has done the impossible, which is to incorporate ocs into fanfiction in a way that not only makes me care about them, but also makes me cry about them. what the fuck.
in the mp100 fandom, @scribefindegil definitely takes the cake. I'm realizing this is revealing what I really look for in a good fanfiction, but just like what I said for risk, scribe's narrative voice is fantastic and matches the pov characters spectacularly well. also scribe's handle on the themes™ and tone and tension?? chef's kiss. The Brassica Heresy is a masterpiece of vegetable based horror, but I'm especially partial to In Case Of Emergency because I love the ensemble cast and I really like the non-espers having to solve a psychic problem
also I haven't been able to keep up with most of the fics bc they've been coming out at a dizzying rate, but @thatneoncrisis deserves a shoutout for doing truly insane shit in the locked tomb fandom. no one is doing it like quinn. it's amazing. go read We Have Always Lived in the Apartment, it is truly something special
#asks#anonymous#this is just an excuse to brag about my talented friends <3#there are people who write good and fun fanfiction#and then there are people who are on another fucking level as writers#and these three are absolutely on another level#y'all are amazing#i haven't gotten deep enough into mdzs fanfiction yet to say I have a favorite writer#though el_em_en_oh_pee might be a current favorite bc i'm eagerly gobbling up their trans fics#but I really haven't read enough to say i have a favorite yet#but yeah. go check these authors and fics out!#i realized while writing these descriptions that I think my favorite thing a writer can do#is have a distinct narrative voice that matches the characters + tone + source material#if you've got a good narrative voice i am THERE

Hi! I'm Naeme from AO3, and I finally got the courage to use the ask thingie cause I had some questions. The thing is tho, I braved tumblr and managed to get to the end of the HTRYDS page(?) so some of the stuff I'm wondering might be totally outdated and the questions might be obsolete. Oh well, I'll ask anyway.
For of all tho, I have to have ask: What have you done to me? I am not kidding for the last two weeks I've just been rereading this AU and thinking about it. This is exactly how I felt after finding and reading your AU this winter. Gosh, I get so intense when I reeeeally like something. I reread your entire fics, proceeded to go play Genshin Impact to move on, then I started talking to my sister about your fic because I needed to FANGIRL and when I was done I was so excited THAT I STOP PLAYING MY GAME AND WENT TO REREAD EVERYTHING AGAIN. My sister thought it was the funniest shit ever, she said I gaslight myself into rereading your fic. What have you done to me. Or maybe I'm the problem. I've been rereading everything but this time with Fairy Tail music because your fic it just that good.
I want you to know, that this is all your fault for creating something so magical. Also I've been rewatching some Fairy Tail episodes because of you and half the time all I can think about is ''Gosh I wish this was HTRYDS''.
ANWAY. As mentioned, I've read your tumblr posts and responses from a while ago and I got some questions. You might not have answers anymore, maybe you moved on or changed your mind and it's all good. I don't really post, but I do write a lot, so I know how it can be.
I saw a post that was about your vague idea of the arcs for this fic and their order, I know it might have changed, you were clear that it was open to a lot of changes, but I had questions about that arc that you called ''Teambuilding Exercises''. I feel like you talked about it somewhere but I couldn't remember what was said. I'm just so curious about this one because for a while now I have been wondering if the dragon slayers were going to join teams. Because it seems like you made Erza, Jellal, Gray and Lucy a team, which confirms what I thought that the Tower Trio (for lack of better name, sorry babies) never became an official team, but it also seems that Natsu just isn't going to join. (which is interesting. I do find his relationship with Gray interesting in HTRYDS, especially when it seemed that Gray genuinely wanted to go with Natsu to Galuna Island in Demon Tale (you broke my heart there, it was great (AND WTF I JUST REALIZED THAT DEMON TALE IS KIND OF THE OPPOSITE OF FAIRY TAIL WHAT--))
Anyway, QUESTIONS!!! First of all, what is implied with ''Team''. Is it Team, or is it Teams. Is the Team the whole of Fairy Tail? In that case it would be the entire guild working together to become closer. If it's Teams, the known teams right now are Laxus', Levy's and maaaaaybe Erza/Jellal/Gray/Lucy? But I feel like the arcs have to be about one of the dragon slayers (we're here for them after all), so is it Laxus? Or will Gajeel join Levy's team? Or Natsu Erza's? Somehow those last two ideas don't feel likely. Sooo, is it that the dragon slayers will make their own team? Or multiple teams? Like the oldest together and youngest together? I feel like Acno won't join a team unless you decide to put the whole fam in one team.
I AM curious as to if the dragon slayers will join any team or make one, even if it's unrelated to that arc.
Maybe that arc has nothing to do with the teams of Fairy Tail and it's a metaphor for something I don't know yet. Or another type of team entirely.
I've also been wondering whether or not there would be a time skip at the end of the Tenrou Island arc, but I'm pretty sure the only way I'll know that is if I read it. So it will wait.
You know what, somehow, it feels like if you answer any of my questions it might just be too spoilery. In that case, just take all those questions I have about HTRYDS as me being very passionate about everything.
Huh. This is really just me loosing my mind over the teams, isn't it? I guess it's because I'm currently in the middle of rereading Demon Tale, I always start wondering during that read. (also love Lucy with Jellal in there, they are so precious in their together. Geek best friends. And then Levy join in on the fun too!)
Gosh I'm a rambling machine. I guess that's why it's hard to comment for me sometimes, especially of the bigger works like you HTRYDS, because I want to honor all the hours and the thoughts that you put into such a big project and it feels like a little comment wouldn't be able to do that. I truly genuinely feel blessed that you decided to take this endeavor and even tho you might feel like doing something else, it's fine because you still gave us such amazing stories to enjoy with this AU.
So again, thank you so much for this AU. Papalogia and his little dragons will now live in my mind forever, I just know it. <3
Hello! Now you can receive your gold star sticker for trying new things lol. And to be fair, nobody *really* knows how to navigate tumblr, we all just (bad pun incoming) tumble our way through. I try to tag all my stuff well enough but my page could probably use some better navigational tags. Oh well. We all persist XD
Anyway whoops. I am honored to be the source of brainrot but as always it's unintentional XD. As much as I would like to take credit for the neat trick, because I need to use that on myself sometimes lmao.
Haha I'm not *too* indecisive so most of my rambling about plot stuff is still up to date. The "Teambuilding Exercises" arc is still very much on my timeline (and still unnamed, rip) and I am still very much hyped for it. I just mentioned it in an ask a few days ago, which is probably what you're thinking of. Funnily enough though, none of the "teams" in that arc will be actual teams. It is 100% me coming up with a funny reason to make new people bond, and then those bonding experiences turn into accidentally Very Personal adventures.
It's funny, I have realized that I sort of made the dragon slayers the floaters of Fairy Tail. Laxus is the only one on a team (Thunderstorm) and that isn't going to change. They kind of act like a "team" in themselves, except not in a concrete way, just the sibling way, and there are groups they frequent, like Gajeel tagging along with Shadow Gear a lot. And, I mean, technically "Team Erza" (as much as I call them that) aren't an official team aside from Mira joking to put them down as one, they just also do things together. I like to play fast and loose with group dynamics and give them the freedom to mix it up sometimes. So, like, there are the official teams recognized outside of the guild as A Thing, and then the people who often squad up. And then me sometimes finding excuses for somewhat unique squads, like me throwing Natsu, Mira, and Happy together in Demon Tales.
Which. I am so stoked you noticed the naming thing XD. I very much did that on purpose lol. (I jokingly refer to their squad name as Demon Tail in my notes.) It's also a fun double entendre, because in addition to being a play off of the guild and a focus on our lovely demon members, the whole arc is also about tales that come from demons. It's Galuna's quest and their past and present and the myth about Apophis and about the Timeless Valley, and with also that fun emphasis that stories does not equal history, but they are adjacent to each other. (I actually agonize over titles too much sometimes I can be very annoying about it, thank you for giving me this opportunity.)
Thank you for rambling! I always enjoy hearing it, and sometimes getting the chance to do it back. Also it makes me happy to know people are in the same brainrot pit I carved for myself and live in. It means a lot <3
#htryds ask#idk if I answered everything but I did read it all definitely#I mean a few things hedge into spoilers that I don't think you actually want to know lol#I completely understand questions as a form of ramble#i do that all the time#honestly I am hyped for tenrou and the random teams arc#they will probably kick my ass in terms of planning but I will persist#god it's gonna take me so long to write this series but I promise I want to#yes I get distracted but that's part of the writer charm (struggle)

laws of attraction episode 5 thoughts. I LOVE seeing tinn being horny on main man it's just excellent. grandma galaxia best character of all time, literally she's so funny I cannot get enough of her. maya SLAYED that pink dress like I had to pause a moment to fucking breathe SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL... the fact that all 3 of them just Know some gay shit is going on between tinn and charn when they haven't even Really done anything yet is so funny.
also obsessed with the concept of charn is a fucking menace even when he's asleep and it is physically impossible to sleep on the same bed as him. funniest iteration of the only one bed trope I've seen so far absolutely amazing 10/10
the really harsh difference between the scene where tinn says he doesn't want people to remember tonkhao just as she was murdered, and the fact that yeah but they still have to solve the murder. Idk that hit me really hard for some reason
tinn talking about tonkhao ;-; I could cry for ever man she liked dogs more than cats and she liked the color blue :((((

So I saw the Spy Family movie.....
And because I love Spy Family, I decided this was a good chance to try a 4D experience.
It did not work out for me.
For the first forty-five minutes or so, I was convinced that it was the 4D experience detracting from the movie.....but as I grew more used to the sensory overload, I started to realize it was not just the 4D but the movie itself.
So to spare my SO and other friends from being inundated with walls of texts analyzing this movie, I've brought my thoughts to Tumblr where I will slice open this movie and extract its shit (SPOILER) just like the villains keep threatening to do to Anya.
This is very much a spoiler post. My only spoiler-free thought is that if you are more in it for the animation, it's worth checking out. If you are more compelled by story and relationships, then spare yourself. If you saw it and liked it, I'm happy for you and this is not me trying to change your mind.
For me, this movie was a crime of Writing That Does Not Understand The Source Material.
Let's go small, and build up to the bigger crimes of this movie, shall we?
Who am I kidding, it's because one of the strangest, yet funniest, parts of this movie is the first thing I want to talk about. But before I get there, I want to acknowledge that the writers of this film were visibly operating under certain constraints.
Part 1: We've Gotta Get the Whole Cast In
I have no idea whether this was a constraint imposed by the studio or one of the film-specific producers or what, but clearly someone somewhere wanted a movie which had a role for every single semi-regular character on this show.
So many of the problems with the plot of this movie can be traced back to the need to incorporate every single element of the extended cast, and only one of those cast members is allowed to be used as a joke (which is, of course, Franky).
I say "of course" because I think that narratively, Franky's involvement is the easiest to undermine as a joke.
But in fact I do feel that the reason Franky ended up being used for a throwaway joke highlights the problem with this movie, which is that it does not understand the characters.
Because the thing is, I had thought earlier in the movie that Anya was behaving in a way that she usually is only inclined to in the presence of Franky.
The story tries to give Anya this mini-subplot where she thinks that her parents are about to break up and matchmakes them. The story understands that this would display a better understanding of romance than Anya usually does, and so employs a flashback with Becky as well as Anya's comical mispronunciations to highlight that she doesn't really understand what she's dealing with or her matchmaking solution. But the thing is, Anya's matchmaking is usually done with Franky in tow. Anya coming up with a stereotypical matchmaking scheme on her own is...a little odd.
Of course, this also highlights how much shit this movie is just recycling from the show without understanding its context. But we will get there.
Part 2: Oops, Anya Ate the McGuffin
Listen, as a concept, this is hilarious. It was literally stored in food—and in a particular food that would be poisonous to Bond, such that in the scene where Anya accidentally eats it, I was desperately worried that Bond would eat it.
So uh...yeah. That's the plot. Anya ate the McGuffin on the way to the vacation to facilitate her learning to make a traditional sweet that will help her get a Stella....(which is a very convoluted plot even excluding the knowledge that a lot of us will go into the movie with that she will not get the Stella, since the movie will have to maintain status quo)...and the bad guys target her and wanna cut her open.
The most bizarre part of this was probably the whole Anya Needs To Shit sequence. This movie kind of had an inconsistency problem with imagined sequences, where some of them were drawn in that childish style to indicate that they were definitely imagined scenarios versus the ones that were illustrated exactly as the rest of the film which creates some troubling implications I'll get into in Part 6, but the Anya Needs To Shit sequence was both bizarre and glorious.
The animators were clearly having the time of their lives. Did it feel like someone trying desperately to find some content to fill airtime? Yes. But given the runtime and the very scattered nature of the story, I will definitely defend the existence of the Poop God sequence. It doesn't need to be there, but by being there, it gives this movie personality and character that it would be lacking otherwise. The rest of the movie is this paint-by-numbers hodgepodge of bits of the show and genre tropes (from shonen as well as family comedies) that, despite the feel-good moments at the end. Without this sequence, the movie would have no personality whatsoever.
So, on that front, it's great.
But at the same time, there is so much weirdness around this. For instance, it is used as a message to children viewers, "never take other people's stuff" without also addressing the issue, "you should brush your teeth."
Because sure, Anya went into that suitcase out of greed. But part of the motivating factor was Bond's foresight about the contents of the suitcase containing a treasure. The narrative pays this a lot of focus and paints the moral for children, "Don't touch other people's stuff". And yet after all that focus on Anya shitting out the microchip, it's stuck to her tooth and comes out with a sneeze???? And nobody even comments that Anya should have maybe brushed her teeth before now?
Please. Own your bizarreness. Let Anya shit out the microchip.
Part 3: Weren't We Supposed to Be Keeping a Low Profile?
Now, it's not unexpected that these movies recycle canon material and reuse highlights in different contexts.
But this movie seemed to forget that a core tenet of the Forger family is that they all want to keep a low profile.
And yet we get Loid openly challenging a military officer who wants Anya's cake, Yor kicking Loid out of a ferris wheel near the top and then, though the movie does not show us specifically, implying that she jumped out after him.....
Add to this the weird subplot that there's another more suitable person to take on Operation Stryx. It's like everybody has forgotten that the highest priority is not appearing suspicious.
Part 4: The 4D Experience
So, 4D probably just isn't for me. That's fine. It happens.
The flashing was particularly unpleasant, and I had to close my eyes during some of the gunfire scenes in the climax because all the flashing lights in the theater were just blinding.
Early in the movie, the weirdest parts were the way the chairs would vibrate in response to characters' reactions. It took me a while to get used to.
Even after I was mostly used to it, though, it was intensely weird to feel the center of the chair pulse rhythmically in time to Tobari's pulsing heart eyes. It made that scene feel way more horny.
I never got used to the little air darts they deliver to your ankles, which always felt like maybe the person behind me was throwing popcorn at me under the seat (even though these seats are too sturdy for such a thing).
I'd seen the warning that you get water sprayed at you, so that in and of itself did not shock me too much..though it did bother me that the first water puff I noticed came during the Poop God scene, which felt very gross. Subsequent water scenes just felt odd in that the characters are getting drenched while I was getting this light spray of water that reminded me of the Poop God.
-50/10 for me, even though honestly I was kinda there for the chairs shifting and tilting through the air battle scenes.
Part 5: So Loid Took a Bunch of Stupid Pills...
Wow, Loid sure forgot his priorities for a movie, didn't he? Haha...ha...
The thing is, I do feel like they were aware that the premise looked weird priority-wise for Loid and were doing their best to write in a reason why he would make the choices he makes.
So now not only is this about the chance for Anya to win a Stella through a pastry competition, it's also about getting to maintain his position in Operation Stryx, with the threat of someone else taking over the mission.
Except....none of this makes sense.
Even if they put another spy in position, why take out the Forgers?
And given that Operation Stryx remains the highest priority, Loid's priorities are deeply off throughout this movie, which act as if his time spent with his family are less important.
This is a point that canon is very good at balancing. Loid enjoys his time with his family, but he rarely simply allows himself to enjoy it, because it is just a mission.
The Loid of this movie seems to be one who is trying to balance family and work, which...may make sense for a version of Loid down the line who knows he values his family for real and views them as something real, but he is not there in canon yet. This creates a head-scratching storyline where Loid keeps abandoning missions for other missions with little to no understanding of the human emotions of the people he is dealing with.
Part 6: ...But That's Not The Worst Part
This movie wants to treat the Forger family as a dysfunctional family that does not communicate, more than a group of people with disparate goals who are pretending to be a family and in the process becoming an actual family. For the most part, this is a subtle distinction. But there are key moments when it is not.
What this movie did to Anya's abandonment issues is really what got to me, enraged me, and cemented it for me as a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Movie.
Canon takes a very delicate approach to Loid and Anya's relationship. Loid is using Anya, but Anya knows this because of her telepathy, and has fun being part of his spy work. Yor knows none of this, and when Loid pushes Anya too hard, helps remind him that she is just a child with human needs above all.
The movie contained a scene where Loid is trying to impress upon Anya the importance that she do a certain thing to get a Stella. Now, Anya understands Operation Stryx and knows how important it is. She knows her role in the operation and in the family, and is always trying her best. But in this scene, Anya expresses that she isn't sure she can do what Loid is asking. Loid, in response, thinks about how this will mean the end of the operation and thereby the end of the family—which spurs Anya into action.
This is the dynamic:
LOID: You need to do this thing.
ANYA: I don't think I can...and I don't want to.
LOID: [unconscously] Oh well, I guess that means the end of our family then.
ANYA: WAIT, please, I'll do it, I promise! I'll be good!
The implication is toxic and horrific, and goes somewhere that canon never has. In canon, Anya's knowledge of the mission balances the pressure Loid places on her, and Loid himself is more inclined to acknowledge the amount of effort Anya puts into things and make alternate plans that take her actual abilities into account, and that is what turns into increased motivation for Anya. This, unlike canon, is just emotional blackmail.
To make matters worse, the art almost seemed to be treating Anya's insecurities about her family as founded in reality, by not changing the art style on one single imagined sequence, and that sequence being the one where Anya decides to sneak out to buy the non-alcoholic cherry liqueur. (Which, isn't that just cherry syrup??? But never mind.)
There's this underlying feeling that the writers of the movie did not understand the role canon Loid serves as emotional anchor to Anya, nor that it is Loid and Yor's ongoing compassion, validation and support that are turning them into a family. The Loid of this movie felt incredibly cold and unfeeling toward Anya for most of the run of this movie in a way that canon Loid never does.
While he had some heartwarming moments toward the end, they did not make it up for me. If anything, they felt duplicitous to me, because they did nothing to address the underlying problems with Loid's attitude toward Anya for the rest of the film.
Frankly, I could even take issue with how Loid treated Yor, because he seemed to be trying to romance her organically in this film? Even though in canon, he only does so at this stage as a calculated plan, and generally they are business partners in their marriage.
The entire family dynamic was just a little bit off in a way that felt like fanfic written by a person imposing their own worldviews onto canon. Which, nothing wrong with that, except that this is an official movie, and I spent a few thousand yen to see it, to my regret.
Part 7: But Was There Anything I Did Like?
It wasn't like this movie has nothing to recommend it. As I've mentioned, the Anya Needs to Shit sequence feels like some animators and the voice actor of the Poop God were having the time of their life and I dig that despite the bizarreness.
Yor also deserves a shout-out. She really shone in this movie, not just because of her show-stealing action sequence with the machine gun cyborg and her clever-as-fuck strategy to blow him up with lipstick. Throughout this movie, Yor's desire to be a part of Loid's and Anya's lives was front and center.
I'm not a fan of the whole Yor thinks Loid is cheating subplot where it felt less in keeping with her usual MO of not understanding the "normal" social nuances and more like the writers fed her stupid pills because Loid was about to overdose, probably. But it was resolved fairly quickly and easily, and at the end of the day, that was not the focus of Yor's storyline in the movie. (And probably was shoehorned into the story to create a reason to include Yor's coworkers in the movie.)
Anya is adorable, as usual, but where usually Spy Family lets Anya be the one surreptitiously finding a way to save her family, in this movie, she was the liability and the damsel. I'm not opposed to such a scenario in general. I do feel that in canon Anya has too much on her shoulders, and even if her parents don't realize the degree of it, I'd love a storyline where Anya gets to be the one saved.
This was not that, but Anya does get to be protected, and even if I have a lot of issues with the details of how it was done, I figure this deserves a shout out.
Concluding Thoughts
If I liked this movie a little more, I would say I ought to see it one more time before refining my thoughts.
I still love Spy Family, enough so that even after seeing this abysmal movie, I am happy about the free stickers I got with my ticket, and opted for the Spy Family themed theater membership card.
But oh boy, this movie rubbed me so very much the wrong way that I have no wish to subject myself to it again.
Also, this isn't important, but was the ending implying that the south of Ostania has an ocean? Given how much canon parallels Ostania and Westalia to East and West Germany, I found this bizarre and it made me feel that the writers of the movie have very little understanding of the source material (well, more than I already did, since that is at the end of the movie, at which point there was already no salvaging my take).
Basically...this movie was Not It.
Don't spend money on it unless it's for the art.

rewatched the Ashildr/Me episodes recently and wowie. never have i wanted to give a character testosterone more. there are several moments where she's just like "man if I was a guy people would respect me more and i could protect people. Too bad I have to be a girl tho" like. hello. girl we gotta get you on space hrt immediately
ashildr literally in those episodes going :/ i've done everything that's possible for me to do so i'm bored now. HAVE YOU TRIED HRT YET. actually, you know what. funniest possible answer? she did. and then she did again. and then she did again. Me ftmtftmtftmtftmtf for funsies off-screen. he has done everything actually.
anyway. this is why i continue to believe that cis (and hetero) normativity only damage storytelling!!!! Me as a character is Not someone who actually gives a shit about societal rules in that way, so why would she be following them except to conform to the writer's bias that she just. couldn't be trans! but the thing is that it makes more sense for them to be! if not literally trans, then to have played all the options out! at least to go around crossdressing as a man for a long while, that's really not that out of the question even historically!

Gooodmorrrning
I have been shit at updating due to my hellstorm of past few days. HOWEVER.
I am awake literally three hours before I'm supposed to be so we may get some early morning updates because I can't fall asleep and work actually just ruined my sleep schedule so I need to cope by writing fanfic LMAO
guys its 537 pm I forgot to update this morning but Im on chapter three of SOMETHING
also Im still awake
Like I actually wanna sleep rn so I can keep writing and I cant fall asleep like what do I do???? LMFAO
8:34pm: Hi guys good fucking morning I fell asleep for like 2 hours and then spent the last one being a menace and learning Rush E (I don't know how to play the piano)
My iPad is charging so I can post my genesis square SO I CAN POST GENESIS TN
BC I NEED TO GET BACK INTO THE GENESIS GROOVE BC THERES SO MUCH GROUND TO COVER.
Um. A Girl and Her Dog is at 5.6k. I've decided it's gonna be short. Probably like eight chapters. And I'm going to quote the following text I just sent regarding it, because I genuinely think it might be the funniest thing I've said regarding any of my fics.
'LIKE rn I think I’m settled on kicking out horror comedy and it just being like some morbidly cute fluff adjacent thing that starts with cannibalism' which was immediately followed up by, 'And why am I wrong for that????'
Just know I'm laughing really hard because who the fuck do I think I am??? But yeah I may or may wind up banging out that entire fic tonight bc of how short it's gonna be so uhhhhh. If I can lock in (I'm struggling) updates on that tonight?
Then, I truly don't know. I think I have settled on my ten fics. Contributions have been considered. There's a google doc.
I might fuck around and work on Princess of Fire bc I gen want to start really working on that. That and Resurrection are the only behemoths I don't have anything for yet and I need to get on those.
WHO KNOWS THOUGH. WE'LL FIND OUT!!!!
(8:51) I am currently going through the trials and tribulations of writing 1k worth of someone STARING AT SOMEONE.
Let's see if I can do this successfully.
(3:27am) I somehow lost several hours but I updated Genesis so it's fine. LMAOOO. A Girl is at 6.8k. 10k more to go???? Ish?????? I think I may got it. idk dudes. Kinda wanna read something bc a new chapter is up & I am going feral over it🫶🏻
but also I know that's gonna turn into me reading like six things and getting nothing done LMFAOOO
(5:19) I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE TIME KEEPS GOING LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON????????
I'm at 8.6 though. I keep just like??? Walking away?????? From my screen???? I'm literally not even doing anything I'm just existing. And am now just remembering I forgot to post Desolation.
Whoops. Looks like I'm doing that????
It's 7am. And I posted Desolation. And The End. And then realized people actually have subs on for me and I am definitely spamming the shit out of people. IF YOU APPLY TO THIS STATEMENT, MY SINCEREST APOLOGIES LMFAOOO I FORGOT THAT WAS A THING.
I am going back to A Girl and pretending that I can concentrate.

17) What advice would you give yourself of the past in regards to writing, planning, running the blog, etc?
18) Who is your favourite member to write for and why?
I wanna cry… I've been waiting for someone to ask me a bunch of shit like these tbh HAHAHA OKAY:
What’s the funniest comment someone has left on a fic of yours?
➺ oh man, there’s so many! I can’t seem to recall one that stood out the most BUT readers who comment their fave part always get me because sometimes it’s not even a part I would think someone would get affected by haha! 😆
What music do you listen to when you write?
➺ I definitely like listening to instrumental music specifically asian lo-fi hip hop playlists OR Lana Del Rey’s West Coast but instrumental on repeat mainly because I can never focus on writing when the song has lyrics ✨
What time of day do you prefer to write?
➺ I try either afternoon or after dinner before I sleep! Usually times when I find myself alone and unbothered.
What is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
➺ Ooh interesting… I think it was during my Kinktober 2023, I had intended a stripper!au for a member but whenever I would try to think of a basic idea for it, nothing came out so I ultimately scrapped it
What’s the dumbest thing you’ve written?
➺ It was one of my asks for Sunwoo, wherein he times on his phone how fast he can make his girl c*m HAHAHA I looked at it a week or two ago and I just went “…what?” HAHAH 🤣
Have you ever made yourself cry writing a fic?
➺ Sad yes, but cry? not yet! haha mostly me trying to create dialogue in my head and the moment I feel the angsty coming in I just know it’s good (to me at least)
What’s one trope you wouldn’t write, except for money?
➺ not even for money but I can never get behind writing idol!au’s (which is ironic) because I guess it seems too personal to write? vs a made up au and all lol
Do you drink anything when you write? Coffee, tea, alcohol, etc?
➺ coffee when it’s an afternoon writing session OR alcohol when I really need to zone in on writing at night!
What is the fic you’re most proud of?
➺ Hate is a Strong Word series, because it was one of the first that I've done and especially for part 1, the scene wherein they were in the closet, that was in my mind for ages, the one scene that started the story, I saw it come to life through words and I was incredibly proud of myself for that!
➺ Other honorable mentions would probs be my camboy!Haknyeon fic, Screw It In Tight, Forget About It, Not Part of the Mission, generally most of my sangyeon fics bcos I’m biased, and of course my very first fic Dirty Little Secret hehe
What is your fave fic from another writer?
➺ I will die on a hill for Get F*cked by kyufiber, I can't stress that enough and was probably one of the fics that made me start liking hyunjae too
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been inspired by?
➺ Hmm, I can’t say I’ve ever been inspired by something weird! I usually get inspired through sharing ideas / scenario’s with friends, music, or anything nsfw that might pop up on my twitter!
What’s one genre you’ve never written that you’d like to try?
➺ Definitely Royal / Historical AU’s! Setting the tone, the scenery, the research for proper timeline accuracy, I would like to go through that process someday!
What is the WIP that you are most excited about?
➺ I’ve had this idea / outline of a summer series I've been wanting to push out since last year (involving 5 members 👀), it’s nowhere near a WIP but it’s one thing I’m super excited to write about when I get the chance!
➺ but if it was a strict WIP, most like the WIP I’ve got for Jacob coming soon!
Do you have any words/phrases you use habitually?
➺ It’s always gonna be those transition phrases like “as soon as” “instead” and etc that I'm guilty of using akjsdnkajsnd 😭
What grammar mistakes do you always make?
➺ run on sentences…..
Is there a comment of feedback that stands out to you amongst the rest? One that you think of often, remember the clearest, etc.
➺ If we’re talking about one comment, there was one that I still remember the most mainly because the feedback was negative and it didnt make sense to me because I literally wrote a warning on the fic and the person did not see that and proceeded to make the comment when the premise of the story is meant to have a dark tone… 😪 (and I guess I wasnt really in a mood that day so maybe it stuck too because it kinda ticked me off lol)
What advice would you give yourself of the past in regards to writing, planning, running the blog, etc?
➺ Just keep doing outlines, don’t focus on perfecting it. Don’t get too caught up with word count too!
Who is your favourite member to write for and why?
➺ Y’know what? Changmin! At first I just wrote for him normally but when I look back at all the fics I've written so far, his always are the ones I had the most fun writing and in my opinion are some of my personal best!
Thank you so much for sending these in! Seriously I've always wanted to answer questions like these and when I saw this ask I couldn't wait to sit down and write out my answers as soon as I got home! hehe 🤭
