Gonna talk about my Tav, Birdie! (Tried giving shorter answers for fear of talking too much)

do they have any special hobbies or skills?

She's a bard, so obviously music, but I think she also writes quite a bit. It's canon that we journal about our adventure, but I think Birdie does it because she enjoys it. She doodles and writes music and lyrics and poems and silly things people have said around her.

do they have any unique scars, marks, or tattoos?

She has a scar on her nose from a childhood injury where she dove into the ocean too close to the shore and banged her face against a rock. Not fun! But funny! She also has scales on her legs. She's part siren so she can breathe underwater with them and likes to stay close to water whenever she can.

what's their fighting style? do they stick to the back and wait for a strategic opening, or charge in guns blazing?

Birdie's kind of a wildcard: She'll do whatever's needed. She's a great swordfighter, so she'll often do hand to hand combat alongside Astarion while Shadowheart and Gale take care of distance fighters with magic. She loves spell casting as well which can be close or at a distance. I'd say usually she's a "dive in head first" kind of fighter :)

what does their tent look like? what do they keep inside it?

I think she's got a blue canvas tent and lots of trinkets. She hasn't really left the Water Queen's House or Baldur's Gate, so Act 1 is a huge shock for her. She likes collecting things that remind her of home like pearls and shells, but she's also a huge reader and likes to trade books with everyone in camp. She does her best to keep things organized, but she keeps getting more and more stuff and her tent is mostly just organized piles of random stuff at this point. Her favorite things are things that have been gifted to her by companions. Karlach's given her a teddybear, Gale gave her a book of poetry that he already had a copy of and thought she'd love, Shadowheart has given her strings of beads for her hair, and Astarion has given her one of his goblets. It's not particularly fancy and Birdie got it pretty soon into their adventure when they shared a glass of wine for the first time, but she's kept it this whole time. SHE LOVES THESE PEOPLE (and so do I)!!!!

Screw it, I’m gonna say it: I actually think the Lilo & Stitch remake is WORSE than the Snow White remake!

On a surface level, I should be more angry at the latter, considering it’s a bastardization of the film that went on to be the very foundation of Walt Disney Animation Studios (and the Walt Disney Company as a whole). But the former makes me angry on a much deeper, and more personal level.

I was only 10 when I saw the original Lilo & Stitch in theaters, and up until Elsa came along, Lilo was the only “autistic coded” Disney character that truly made me feel seen. Sure, there’ve been other autistic coded Disney characters before her (Ariel, Belle, Quasimodo, Hercules, Tarzan, Milo Thatch), but Lilo was the one I felt was the closest to being realistically autistic: creepy girl with weird hobbies struggles to make friends with other people her age, tends to lash out when someone insults her or misunderstands her, and is generally seen as this social outcast.

Heck, every other main character in Lilo & Stitch is pretty much a social outcast too:

Jumba is an “evil genius”, who the Galactic Council sees as nothing more than a pompous idiot.

Pleakley’s a scrawny nerd who’s completely enamored with Earth’s culture and history (in his own distorted, alien kind of way), and is unapologetically gender non-conforming.

Stitch is a genetically engineered “experiment” who was designed for destruction.

Then there’s Nani, who may not be as much of an “outcast” as the others, but she’s still a young woman living in poverty with her recently orphaned little sister and struggling to find a job in a nation that’s frequently populated by colonizers and tourists. Plus, she’s basically the only other human (besides David) who sees Lilo as a person, and not just a little terror.

Once I’ve read all the leaked spoilers for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, I wasn’t just angry, I was FURIOUS! Practically everything about the original movie that I just described here is either completely absent or significantly dumbed down in the remake! It’s like they tore out everything that made Lilo & Stitch a neurodivergent masterpiece, and made it for the Neurotypical Gaze!

Anyway, I’m done ranting about this piece of shit remake, and I hope it flops harder than that dumb Mufasa movie.

following his release spencer reid would struggle to return to normalcy for some time after his whole life was turned upside down for months but the pockets of peace he creates with you he finds are essential to his well being.

your spencer reid wakes up early on the rare saturday mornings he has off making sure you’re still sleeping and sneaks off to the kitchen to make breakfast that will soon wake you up in a few hours with the wafting smell of waffles and coffee. he dons a ‘kiss the chef’ apron you ironically got for him that he unironically treasures deeply as he finishes plating the spread on the tray and bringing it back to the room.

maybe on saturday mornings you always go to the farmers market and you always buy a fresh bouquet of flowers because having them on sunday makes for a good omen for the coming week. and even on the saturdays spencer reid can’t be there you send pictures of the bouquet you picked out that day and it makes his heart so so happy. his favorite thing is when he tells you the significance of different flowers and they show up in the bunch the week after. if one day you don’t go to the farmers market or there just isn’t a bouquet in the house that day spencer reid absolutely cannot have that and so he goes out on his own curating the perfect bouquet of flowers because he’ll be damned if you don’t have your flowers!

i think he would also encourage you to ramble as much as he does because he loves hearing you talk, even if he knows nothing about it or it doesn’t make sense. like for someone who loves info dumping and telling people cool facts, spencer reid is much quieter around you because hearing you talk especially about things you love is so so special to him. he would trade his voice like ariel in the little mermaid if it meant he could hear you talk on and on about anything and everything for the rest of his life.

and like, because this is spencer reid there will be a time that something happens to you because of what he does (alexa play peace), kinda similar to matt and kristy when she’s held hostage at her work or derek and savannah when she gets shot. hotch has to physically keep him away from the scene because he’d be so close to losing it and risking everything by going solo but who can blame him when you, the other half of him that the prophecies say you’d spend your whole lives searching for but he was fortunate and grateful enough to find you so soon, could get hurt. he would harbor the same guilt hotch feels dating anyone after haley because after maeve spencer reid refuses to let anything take you away from him, but here he is putting you in a situation he caused because an unsub he put away has a grievance to settle.

and eventually you’re safe and back in the apartment with spencer reid and he’s just. in crisis mode. because he genuinely is not sure if he can handle something like that happening to you again. but he’s not even sure how to prevent that from ever happening. and he’s so proud of you for how brave you’re trying to be but it’s breaking his heart entirely to watch you do that for him, and he’s so sure he does not deserve your grace at all. so it’s not even a hard decision when he decides to increase his university teaching hours and step away from the bau just to be with you more.

because now you and spencer reid have more time to make flower bouquets at the farmers market every week. he’s bucket listed every museum up and down the eastern coast and fully intends on finishing it before the year ends. he carries a little trial size vial of your perfume in his satchel whenever he misses you a little too much, even when you’re just in the other room. spencer reid wants nothing more than to live a simple life with you, and after the world has dealt him too many bad cards, he’s more than grateful to get to hold these little moments of you close to mend his bruised heart.

#22: At the very bottom of the list is Sumin Jeong from Marry my husband

Now, like almost everyone else on this list, Sumin is kept a level that is below the FL Jiwon so she can never best the hero. However unlike the others here, Sumin has not once been shown to be anything other than a dumb and evil bimbo who talks like elmo even before Jiwon regressed, her reasons for wanting everything Jiwon has make no sense and she has no flavor to her, no backstory that makes sense, no real charm since it's lost as soon as possible, all she has going for her is a distinct design.

#21: Charlotte-the villainess maker

Honestly, Charlotte is about as forgettable as the comic she's from. She doesn't do much, just basic bland white lotus tropes over and over. She is portrayed as a sweet heart but she's secretly a jealous vindictive mean girl, she loses everything to the FL because she's too basic for the not-like-other-girls readers, nothing really revolutionary about her, but this could be chalked up to the story shes from canonically being an abysmal mess written by the FL when she was 14, Sorry Charlotte.

#20: Iris Van Conrad-Today the villainess has fun again.

A step up from Sumin when it comes to backstories, still not the greatest but it makes a little more sense. She's more passive aggressive since her actual plots are destoryed in nanoseconds by the plot, she gets dunked on so much I wonder if she's supposed to the Villainess or a discount Meg Griffin. Considering the fact to that Reilynn is pedo coded, Iris is less of the two evils.

#19: Aisha Selir-divorcing my tyrant husband.

Shes okay, But like Charlotte, Aisha isn't very noteworthy, as usual, any attempts she makes to best or outsmart Robelia are met with utter failure, she could be something really great if she were just allowed to make a mark on the plot. Like actually have Alexandros take responsibility instead of blaming her for her existence. Her design before the art shift was pretty enough and I'm pretty sure she's being possessed by a vindictive soul so that might explain why Aisha suddenly became a villain when she's described as being dainty, sweet, and a general damsel and saintess in the story within DMTH.

18: Fonta Magnus:the tyrants only perfumer

Fonta is the type of antagonist that would be adored as a isekaied protagonist. She doesn't really do much though since she gets defeated over and over with the same plan of copying Ariels ideas (how original, no pun intended) I like her though just because her design reminds me of cartoon goth girls, specially Gwen from total drama island.

#17: Benela Verdi- the princesses jewels

I don't care if she seduced Ariannas father or killed her brother, Arianna was out there acting like she wouldn't do the same just to get with a sexy man. Benela may suffer from the same problems every other villainess does but if ranked them based on that then almost all of them would be on the bottom. This image of her drinking her stress away is accurate to how I felt reading this one.

#16: Claudine von Brandt-Cry or better yet beg

I absolutely adore Claudine and she's not really a villain but unfortunately the narrative says she's a so she'll have to count. It's why she's this low since she's just a woman who gets in the way of the main ship

As you can probably guess, her only crimes are being condescending to Layla and valuing superficial values such as wealth and status, crimes that somehow make her worse than Matthias in the narratives eyes. Justice for my girl Claudine ✊️

now we are moving up to the middle tier

#15: Diana-for my derelict favorite

This girl has more protagonist material then Hestia ever will. Sorry but Hestias entire thing is just being a rich girlboss, simping for Cael and damning any woman who broke his heart including Diana, who is the saintess that opposes murder, Wow! Who would have guessed that the saintess woman wouldn't endorse literal murder! Could she have communicated better? Yes, was she always in the right? Hell no. But she's got more character in her pinky toe then everyone else in their entire bodies to I salute to her.

#14: Irene/Aileen Hascator- I didn't mean to seduce the male lead

I have a weird relationship with her. One minute I'm impressed because she actually does manipulation pretty well at first with making the lives of those who won't swear loyalty her unbearable in very smart ways, she'll buy all her friends expensive dresses so she can stand out in a simpler one, she'll defend the black sheep and make her into her friend to keep up her sweetheart facade, unfortunately it's all so she can get with a boy where she goes nuts on anyone who gets near him.

#13: Freya van Furiana- how to get my husband on my side

I really loved this manhwa, almost all of the characters are complex and 3 dimensional with a great commentary on abuse, ED, and family dynamics, with that said I was a little disappointed seeing Freya as another basic white lotus who only wants Izek for herself, it won't take much even a little more character traits would help because Freya isn't just some random girl who became the ogfl, she was the childhood friend of Izek and Ellen, so we should've gotten to see a little more too her then what we got

#12: Mielle Roscente- the villainess turns the hourglass.

Beautiful design, basic but rather solid goals, a charming personality, Mielle has all of that in the bag. She secretly wants Aria and her mother out of her life since they aren't of noble blood (before the terrible Arias a noble plot twist) and she's really entertaining. However I'll never understand how she managed to destroy Aria in the first timeline if she's such an idiot now. The first timeline also takes the blame off of Arias shitty actions with "Mielle tricked her into being evil!" It ruins the charm since Aria, as a villainess should be allowed to suffer the consequences while not wanting to quit.. since you know, she's not meant to be a good person.

#11: Isabella de Mare-sister I am the queen in this life

NOT YOU!

THIS is the Isabella I'm talking about

Absolute genius, she knows that Ceasre is a bastard and not just in the literal sense, she doesn't even love him and just wants that sweet sweet power and wealth. Fooled Ariande for years that she was on her side and as a bonus she can easily say she wanted revenge for Alfonso to the public if they ever found out she was behind it all. But the best part about first timeline Isabella is her villain monolog that women mean nothing to men, putting your life in their hands is a fatal mistake and if you want to make it to the top, you gotta crush the opponents. But alas we never see this version of Isabella after Ariande goes back in time

Higher tier now, the best of the best who managed to make it this far

#10: Rhyse/Lise Sinclair- not your typical reincarnation story

Yeah shes technically being controlled by the author or hell maybe she is the author I have yet to finish this one but for once we get a comic that doesn't immediately pit two women against eachother and actually gives a solid reason for her to be at odds with Edith. When something doesn't go her way, Rhyse doesn't throw a fit and turn on the water works no no no. She stands there, awkwardly, almost like the real Rhyse is wondering why she feels so jealous and angry with Edith for stealing the spotlight. She's incredibly ominous too when that purple mist surrounds her to force the other characters back into place. All while she's making friends with Edith in a possibly geninue friendship.

#9: Isis Frederick- the villainess reverses the hourglass

I'm pretty sure most of us can agree she's the real villain of TVRTHG since she basically started and encouraged the whole operation to begin with from afar, the puppeteer if you will. Killer design, a great fear factor and an evil sister done better. Wish she had more time to shine.

#8: Diane Poitier- I abdicate my title as empress

What already sets her apart from other evil concubines is that she was there before Adelaide so her reasons for being upset that another woman is showing up to marry the Emperor is reasonable, obviously her actions aren't but I still felt bad for her since no one in that palace gave a damn about her, Diane got ruthlessly belittled and ignored for not being useful to their liking or simply being too desperate and when Adelaide tries to not make an enemy out of her, Diane is looking for anyone to direct her anger on but the redemption arc as short as it is, makes up for it.

#7: Leila- villains are destined to die

My favorite ogfl turned villain. Leila is pure evil no questions asked. She steals the body of Yvonne which played a part in taking the latters reputation to a degree in the fandom and starts brainwashing everyone around her. That's what makes her so terrifying, one minute you could be at your highest and you feel like you rule the world, and next minute it all comes crashing down when the face of your long lost sibling arrives with fake tears in her eyes, ready to destroy everything you hold dear.

#6: Soleia Elard- seducing the villains father

I can't believe I'm saying this but a classic black magic witch is a unique villain in the manhwa world. During her introduction she's already causing mayhem by trying to kill Yerenica with black magic, and at first you'd think she's another "I want my hubbies affection!" Chick but no, she just wants to marry Erudian to have his child and use said child to avenge her family and destroy everything, characters are all frightened by her because she actually gets shit done instead of failing every minute of the day, and even after all that, she's allowed the privilege of life by getting a redemption arc.

#5: Cosette Weinberg- I was the real one.

She deserved so much better!! 😭 Cosette, my baby, you were set up to be such an amazing villain with high intelligence and well thought out plans, why did they have to give you the good old plot induced lobotomy! Girly wasn't just smart but there were actually times I could get behind Cosette. When Keira gave a maid 100 lashes after she insulted and wished death on Keira, it was Cosette who took advantage of an actual truth with only a little bit of exaggeration, they were both evil but only one of them was rightfully called out for it. Honestly just read the novel, the manhwa did it dirty.

#4: Marianne Edenverre- into the light again.

Nah someone get this baby to a church and give her the aggressive baptism 10 times over, I'll always be wondering how the hell did that 10 year old get her hands on a demon in the first place, the fact that the family never found her hiding behind a door or closet staring into their soul like a paralysis demon is surprising cause I imagine she would do that and be like "it's just me sillies, I would never mean to scare you 😛" she's a well written villainess who I wish would have a little bit more screentime but her powers and what she can do honestly confuses me (like that whole body-swap thing)

Final 3 everybody, you ready for this?

#🥉: the 3rd place medal goes to Dodolea Castor from My in laws are obsessed with me

Another real villainess, putting everyone off guard with her initial gacha life brat persona only to be hit in the face with disturbing levels of cruelty that can only match a psychopath, she looks straight out of an uncanny mr incredible meme with that light skin stare shes got. Straight up laughs at Therdeos trauma while being well aware that she tried to SA him and how it affected the poor guy and later proceeds to attempt to kill and later kidnaps his wife. There's no remorse, no regrets, just the souls of innocents behind those huge eyes.

#🥈 : the second place medal goes to Verta Alberhart from depths of malice.

She isn't even the antagonist, no that's the protagonist! And honestly, the only white lotus in the main lead spot I've ever read so far. And while she has a messed up backstory that explains why she's so bitter, she still full on embraces it. Vertas way of being granted a second chance isn't even because of some goddess or divine power, she just snatches the body of a suicidal noblewoman and wreaks havoc on all of the disgusting noblemen in her path. She cries on the court trial of her fiances murder while secretly laughing knowing she set the whole thing up and slowly ruins the life of anyone who fucked around and found out.

At long last, we reached #🏅, and the crown goes to none other than...

Rashta Ishka from the remarried empress!

Hear me out now, this isn't just me being biased. Rashta earns first place because even though she is rendered an idiot who's only use is being worse so everyone else can look good, she still managed to do something unfathomable. She earned the respect of a fandom that initially hated her with all the fiber of their being and now she has a growing fanbase of real people, not fictional characters, actual fans. People are literally turning on one of the most popular manhwas that started it all for its treatment of Rashta (because who would guess that people are uncomfortable with the fact that a former slave is the ultimate evil and not the guy who tortures people just for shit talking the FL) and even though there is still a big part of the fandom who despises her, she still lives in everyone's head rent free. The trashta meme is more well known than Navier as a character and her character arc will always be superior and far more interesting than everything else in the story, after all remarried empress did start to decline after her death.

Jesus christ this took so long, I had to do so much rereading and fact checking but it was worth it.

After waiting in the long line to get into the club, you’re finally granted access. The bouncer has to make sure there aren’t too many people per fire department codes, but you’re glad you’re even in at all. You bought yourself a new shirt that you’d never wear otherwise, and you really want to show it off. It’s a small sequin shirt that is covered with fake diamonds and shiny jewels, and it only covers your breasts like Ariel’s shell bra. The back has a few clear straps to make it look backless that clasp in the front. The only thing holding this shirt together is the small rusted clasp in the front.

You bought it at a thrift store that was part of a costume, so the clasp has definitely seen better days. Your only goal is to go home with someone since it’s been a while since you’ve felt the warmth of another body against yours.

“Okay, let me get us some drinks!” you yell over the music.

You push through the sea of bodies to the bar counter where you put in your drink requests. On the other side of the bar, by where the pool tables are, is Spencer, Derek, Matt, and Luke. Derek had a hard enough time trying to get Spencer out of the house, but he’s glad he’s here. He doesn’t get to hang out with his friends a lot since getting out of prison. He wanted to shut himself away from everyone, so being around people is good for him.

“Thanks for coming out, man,” Derek says and sips his beer.

“What choice did I have? You practically dragged me out by my hair.”

“Soak up the solitude, my friend, because in three weeks, you’re not gonna know peace,” Derek laughs.

Derek and Savannah broke up because her job took her halfway across the country, and Derek’s entire life is in Virginia. He loves being with the BAU and didn’t want to leave it. It wasn’t an easy decision to break up, but it was easier knowing that they were drifting apart. She was always at work and doing stuff for her coworkers like events raised by the hospital.

So, to prevent wallowing in self-pity and heartbreak, Derek asked Spencer to move in with him. Rent is climbing up a very steep hole and soon, being an FBI agent won’t be enough to cover rent. Luke and Matt start telling a story about when they went to talk to a victim’s family, but Spencer zones out of the conversation. He’s heard it once and that’s all he needs to remember every detail.

He looks around the bar at the different groups, just people-watching when he notices something shiny on the dancefloor. The sea of people part so he has an unobstructed view of you in that shiny sequin top. You’re dancing with your friends without a care in the world of who is watching. Spencer’s lips part slightly as he takes in every detail of your face and body.

He’s only dreamed of finding someone as beautiful as you. In prison, he’d create a woman in his head just to get him through the night, but none of that compares to you. Hair that flips as you dance, long legs leading out of a very short skirt, sparkly skin thanks to body glitter, and pouty red lips that he’d really like to kiss.

He looks at his friends but they aren’t paying any attention to you. They’re too engrossed in their stories to notice the beauty on the dancefloor. He looks back but frowns when he doesn’t see you. Your friends have dragged you from your spot on the dancefloor back to the table.

“We think we found someone for you,” Beatrice giggles.

“Oh, no, should I be worried?”

“No, no, he’s cute. I am seventy percent sure that he’s single.”

“Seventy? I don’t like those odds.”

“Well, I saw him with a woman earlier but she left and I haven’t seen her since. He doesn't have a ring on.”

“Hmm, why don’t we try looking for someone else I know who for sure is single. In the meantime, let’s go dance!”

You drag Bea and Aurora to the dancefloor, drinks forgotten. You’ll just get new ones when you want something else. The music flows through your body as you sway your hips to the beat, allowing your problems to slide off you. Your body twists too far to the right, and you feel the pop rather than hear it. You gasp and put a hand to the front of your shirt because the clasp had broken. If you remove your hand, your breasts will pop free.

“Shit! My shirt just broke!” you yell over the music. “I have to go home. I don’t have anything else to wear!”

“Here, take my shirt.”

Based on the starstruck looks on your friends��� faces, you know whoever is behind you is stupid handsome. You turn and are taken aback by how hot this man is. Curly brown hair, honey-brown eyes, a lean body, and super tall. Taller than any of your ex-boyfriends.

“Were you watching me?”

The stranger chuckles. “No, I was passing by when I heard you. Here, take my shirt.”

“No, I can’t.”

The words die on your tongue when he starts to unbutton the front of it. He’s wearing a black undershirt, and you find yourself disappointed you won’t be able to see what he’s hiding under those clothes.

“It’s okay, I have an undershirt on.”

He slides off his shirt and wraps it around your shoulders. Using his body like a shield, he blocks you from unwanted gazes and your friends keep eyes off you from behind. With one hand holding your shirt together, you awkwardly put the stranger’s shirt on. Once both arms are through, he starts to button it up so that you can keep a hand on your sequin top.

The shirt is bigger than you, so it hangs loosely, but it smells too good for a shirt. People nudge Spencer as they dance, causing him to inch closer to you. The act of him buttoning up your shirt is weirdly intimate, and you’re sure your friends have shit-eating grins on their faces.

“Let me buy you a drink,” you offer.

“You don’t have to.”

“I insist or else I’ll lose sleep over it.” Spencer doesn’t respond but lets you drag him to the bar counter. Luckily, a couple had just gotten up so you two take those seats before someone else does. “I’m Y/N.”

“Spencer,” he smiles.

“Thanks for offering your shirt to me. I would have to have gone home to change. You’re my hero.”

“I don’t know about that,” he blushes. “I’m just glad you’re able to stay.”

“Why is that?”

“I don’t know. Maybe because I wouldn’t have met you and I wouldn’t be talking to you now.”

“Lucky you, then,” you grin.

“As weird as it may sound, I’ll have red wine. I’m gonna run to the bathroom real fast so you can just order for us.”

“Sure,” you nod. Spencer gets up and turns away, but you stop him. “Spencer? It’s not weird at all.”

As soon as Spencer leaves, you put in an order for two glasses of red wine. Five minutes turn to ten that turn to twenty. This man isn’t coming back. Maybe you read the situation wrong. Maybe he was only trying to be nice and made an excuse to get away the first chance you got. You slap some bills onto the counter before leaving to find your friends.

“Where’s McHottie?” Bea grins.

“Flaked on me. I think I scared him. We should just go.”

“What a bitch,” Aurora slurs.

“I’m calling an Uber now,” you say and pull out your phone.

As soon as Spencer got done using the bathroom, he hurried back to the bar counter. The line was extra long because some guy was fucking in the stall. A worker had to barge in and throw him out before he was able to use the restroom. He would have left to tell you but the line was getting longer and he really needed to go.

However, when he sees the empty bar counter, he frowns. The glasses of wine are still on the counter with a crisp twenty, and Spencer can’t help but chuckle. He knew you were too good to be true. Maybe you were creeped out by him when he offered you his shirt and was relieved when he had to go to the bathroom. He shakes his head and heads back to his friends.

“Where have you been?” Matt asks.

“Where’s your shirt?” Derek asks.

“Trash. I spilled something on it,” Spencer lies.

While you’re beautiful, you might just be a conniving little thief, so he tries his best to get you out of his head. After all, he’s moving in with his best friend. The day comes sooner than Spencer realizes. Luckily, Emily had given him and Derek the week off to get the new house ready. Derek wanted out of the house he and Savannah shared, so they needed new everything.

In the weeks that followed the club night, you had a hard time getting Spencer out of your head. It’s like even though he was a flake, he was a gorgeous one. You’re lounging on your bed scrolling through social media when you get a call from your brother.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Hey, are you busy right now?”

“Maybe. Depends on how much you wanna beg me to help you,” you grin.

“You’re evil. Look, the guys that were supposed to help me move bailed. Can you come help for a couple of hours?” You stay silent as you think. “I’ll give you money for Starbucks.”

“I’m on my way.”

He laughs and hangs up before you can change your mind. You search your closet for something clean to wear. Laundry day is tomorrow, and you weren't planning on going anywhere today. The only thing that’s remotely clean is the shirt Spencer let you wear. As soon as you got home that night, you took it off and it’s been on the floor ever since.

With a shrug, you put that on and head out. Your brother lives fifteen minutes from you, but you make it in ten minutes due to traffic being light. The moving van is posted outside his new house with two cars--your brother’s and his new roommate’s.

“Knock knock. It’s me,” you call out when you walk in.

“In here!” You walk into the kitchen to see your brother, Derek, next to his roommate who has his back to you. Wait… Wait a damn minute… “Y/N! Meet my roommate, Spencer.”

Spencer turns, confirming your suspicions. It’s Spencer from the bar. Wait, he’s your brother’s roommate? You don’t know much about his coworkers since you tend to lead very separate lives. He gets the bad guys while you’re a publishing editor. Spencer knows Derek has sisters, but he hasn’t met all of them. Derek often talks about you by name, but he never thought that the girl from the club would be her.

“It’s nice to meet you,” you say the first thing that comes to mind.

Spencer nods as if he’s thinking. “Okay. Nice to meet you, too.”

“Okay, I’m going to get more boxes. I’ll give the tour when we’re done.”

“Okay,” you smile. As soon as Derek is gone, you glare at Spencer. He looks just as good as he did in the club, if not better. It pisses you off. “So…”

“Are we not going to talk about it?”

“Talk about what?”

“About how you ditched me.”

“You bailed on me!” you gasp.

“I did no such thing. I went to the bathroom like I said I was going to. The line was long because some guy was having sex in the stalls and locked the bathroom. I would have stepped out of line to tell you this but I really had to pee. When I came back, you and your friends were gone.”

“What?” Embarrassment heats your cheeks. God, how can you be so stupid? “Oh, I thought you… Okay. I thought you ditched me and I got pissed.”

“Sorry I gave you that impression.” Spencer looks down and finally notices the shirt you’re wearing. “You’re wearing my shirt.”

You look down and chuckle nervously. “Look at that. I am.” You look back into his eyes. “Do you want it back? I can give it back.”

Your eyes are wide and innocent, and Spencer has a hard time resisting going over to you and ripping it off you.

“Keep it,” he says after a moment. “It looks better on you, anyway.”

Spencer pushes away from the kitchen counter and walks toward you. You back up for every step he takes toward you until your legs hit the couch.

“We can’t do this,” you mumble.

“Why not?”

“Look, my brother and I have a rule where I don’t date his friends and he doesn’t date mine. We can’t do this.”

Spencer leans down and grips the back of the couch so you’re trapped.

“We can’t or we shouldn’t?” he whispers.

“We shouldn’t.”

“Okay.” He backs up a few feet. “I wanted to give you a goodnight kiss that night. I’m kind of pissed I didn’t get to.”

“Oh, okay.”

“What if I gave it to you now?” You snap your gaze to him. “One kiss and then we can pretend like that night never happened.”

You don’t have to say anything. He can see the desire in your eyes. He stalks back over to you, grabs your jaw, and kisses you. You sit on the back of the couch and wrap your legs around his waist, falling deeper into the kiss.

“Oh, come on,” Derek groans.

You and Spencer jump away from each other and see Derek standing by the front door with a box in hand.

“Sorry, Derek,” you mutter.

“No, wait a second,” Spencer jumps in. “Just because you think this is going to blow up in our faces doesn’t mean it will.” He looks at Derek. “I’m not sorry, Morgan. I’m not going to stop wanting to kiss her.”

Derek shakes his head and sets the box down. “You know what? You’re both adults. I just don’t need to see your naked ass walking through here. I’m getting more boxes. It’d be nice if you two helped.”

The second Derek is out of view, you pull Spencer back in for another kiss with the promise of something delicious later on.

Plus, there’s a big theme of rebelliousness in The Little Mermaid, which applies to Rafayel’s myth in the way he gives up his homeland for MC. The oceans, the mermaids, the artsy undertones - very Rafayel coded.

Prince Phillip - Sleeping Beauty

A man of few words, but a man very much in love. “Once Upon a Dream”? Yeah, Xavier coded for sure. The secret princess hidden away in a garden? Yup. Prince Phillip is just very regal, and I can see Xavier being the same way. He just has this very calming, serene vibe to him that I see in Xavier. Plus, the willingness to dive head first into danger to protect his princess.

Okay, this is loose but hear me out. Disney didn’t originally create Anastasia, but they own the rights to it now, so I’m saying this is valid. Go with it. Dimitri is somewhat of a criminal, digging around in the shadows of Saint Petersburg. The banter, the sarcasm, the slow building and silent tension - definitely Sylus. Their sweet moments are everything. The boat scene with Anastasia’s nightmare? The first time he sees her in her dress for the opera? I feel like that has Sylus written all over it.

Flynn Rider - Tangled

“They just can’t get my nose right!” Some shit Caleb would say. The personalities are just very similar. There’s a slight underlying protectiveness in Flynn, too - mentioning taking Rapunzel back to the tower several times before they make it to the kingdom. The lantern scene? Jesus christ, the yearning is so Caleb coded. Then fighting off the guards, aggressively questioning the twins as to Rapunzel’s whereabouts, sacrificing himself to save her? Caleb.

if every character that has a unique characterization in their thought process, or fictional perspective, MUST BE “autistic” or “neurodivergent-coded,” that character is no longer relatable to people who don’t self-diagnose, or identify with, or are not diagnosed with, autism or anything on the neurodivergent spectrum.

I mean honestly I see you guys out here telling me that Mulan is neurodivergent, that ROZ from the Wild Robot is neurodivergent and gee, so is Brightbill, that Hiccup is neurodivergent and Ariel is autistic.

The whole point of characters, especially main characters, especially main characters in children’s media, is to be believable and relatable, on some level. If they’re all ‘special brain-different,’ they’re only relatable to people who accept that label or are given that diagnosis.

AND. It does a huge disservice to the storytelling techniques.

A story is supposed to get under the mental guard of a person. You’re supposed to take your hands off the “thought” wheel and your feet off the “emotion” pedals, and let the story drive your brain and heart to a new place. Or an old place you haven’t been in a while, or were forgetting.

One of the best ways to do that is to create a character that, on the surface, seems special and unrelatable. Like a girl living in the Imperial Dynasty of China, or a literal non-human robot. You can’t, on the surface, relate to them as easily, so you naturally start to think, “what would it be like to be seeing the world through these new eyes?” And then you’ve given up the wheel and pedals of your mind to the movie. You find yourself relating to concepts like motherhood and protectiveness, which the robot character is experiencing, but you’re looking at those concepts through new eyes.

That is why the character is a robot. Not so that she can be an allegory for your “special-undefined-perspective-on-life which is sometimes called neurodivergence.” She’s not a robot for that reason. She’s a robot because a robot character flips the “what would it be like to learn everything over again?” switch in your brain, and then the story can show you it’s focus, (like motherhood and kindness in The Wild Robot) after the switch is flipped.

and it’s flipped for everybody, (“neurodivergent” and “neurotypical”) not just people who identify as the vague term “neurodivergent,” or have been diagnosed as autistic. Stop fitting everything into vague-enough-to-be-claimed, but named-enough-to-be-a-special-identity boxes. You’re ruining the universal, unifying value of it all.

The Ballad of Miles Peter Kane

I’m writing this because 80% of the speculation in the AM/TLSP/MK fandom is about Alex – ‘he shags groupies, he’s gay, he’s bi, he’s autistic, he’s an arrogant bastard’....the list is endless. Because he is our master of deception and subterfuge, he opens himself up to speculation.

But on the surface Miles is so different. Happy, smiley, seemingly open Miles, sharing his home and his dog and his family on social media. Chatting away in interviews like a little bird. People think he has it together.

But dig a little deeper and read between the lines, and I get a completely different picture of Miles from the Rascal of 2008 to our One Man Band of 2024.

I have been watching some early interviews with Miles recently and he shoehorns the topic of women and girls into them far more often than Alex ever has. A simple question about if he likes meat is met with a ‘not in a gay way’. At a time when Alex was being photographed looking like Alexa’s little brother or Arielle’s hot gay pal, Miles was being ‘papped’ with his tongue down the throat of the latest hot model or Page Three Girl. There was a sexy girl in every video. And before you say it, yes there were in AM’s videos, but find me one where Alex interacts with them. There was also Miles’ relationship with Suki Waterhouse which I find hard to believe wasn’t real, unless he is far better than Alex at faking a relationship.

Controversial as this may be, but in my opinion, early videos of baby Al flirting openly with Andy, and pressing himself up against Miles, and a bit later on, even AM Alex flirting with that hunky male interviewer, does not point to someone battling too much with their inner homophobia. I think Alex – as ever – has two personalities. The Alex known to the inner circle is out and has been for many years. But Mr Schwartz - the public facing Alex, struggles with his sexuality and the effect it will have on his career and that of his three ‘brothers’.

But read between the lines of their lyrics from the AM/Don’t Forget Who You Are era. AM is filled with longing, of someone who doesn’t know where they stand with this secret - keeping lover who treats them differently at night than during the day. DFWYA is still full of ‘she’ and ‘her’ songs, although ironically the lyrics to Out of Control are so Milex coded it’s funny. I will always maintain Give Up is about Alex (I think ‘stand so tall’ is a figure of speech rather than literally lol) lyrics like ‘you’re pretty good looking but I’m looking for a way out’ and ‘stop tainting my soul’ scream Alex. Don’t forget both albums will have been written around the same time, so I am guessing that they were going through the conflict of Miles not knowing what to do, and him somehow blaming Alex for his confusion, but at the same time unable to keep away from him.

So we reach 2015 and the recording of EYCTE. Something happens. Once on stage and once in an interview, Alex talks about them falling in love whist recording the album. Traditionalists will choose to think he means with their ‘girlfriends’ at the time, but once on tour it is obvious there has been a change in the dynamics. Alex is coquettish and sexy, but his stage personas have all been a variation on this since Humbug, but Miles is different. Miles can’t keep his hands off Alex, Miles follows Alex around the stage like a lovesick puppy. In interviews gone are the playful lusty looks of TAOTU era, instead Miles gazes at Alex like he’s the most beautiful and wondrous thing he’s ever seen.

I think Miles had finally seen the light and realised he was in love with his best mate/casual fuck buddy. He could no longer go on treating Alex like some dirty little secret, and he could no longer deny his sexuality.

What happened afterwards? Who knows, I guess they’re the only ones who know the full truth. But they both came out of EYCTE depressed (the two interviews recently posted on here show this), but Miles admitted to having a mental breakdown, and all I can do is speculate why I think this happened. Imagine being a young man fighting inner demons about your sexuality, you finally realise you’re in love with your best friend and promises are made (see Someone to Rely On and Wrong Side of Life) and he leaves you to go off to France to record an album and keep up his ‘relationship’ with his girlfriend. You have laid yourself on the line and taken a huge step for him and he's gone.

In Alex’s defence, he probably had years of Miles letting him down and also the responsibility of AM etc, but this isn’t about Alex.

But time is a great healer and I think Miles came out of the whole period a different person. By Change the Show, we lose the ‘she’ pronouns (just one ‘girl’, and Suzie and Caroline) and sexy girls in videos. Gone are the models and page three girls. There is a brief ‘romance’ with Nadya Duke, but that is it.

So we come to One Man Band. Apart from one ridiculous tongue in cheek podcast with his friend James Buckley, where he goes on about women (incidentally just before the Ireland gigs with AM), Miles has changed. In early interviews, his childhood heroes are Lennon and Oasis…no mention of Baggio. With One Man Band we suddenly get Baggio and in interviews he talks of how eight year old Miles thought Baggio and the Italian football team were sexy. Old Miles would have followed that up with something like ‘the sort of sexy that pulled birds’, but there was nothing like that, instead he was admitting that part of his sexual awakening was admiring Italian men.

The video for The Wonder had a sexy woman, his friend Didem, but somehow the dynamic felt different, the general vibe was more two mates mucking about.

His stage persona is more ‘fruity’, he is using ‘she’ pronouns but to address himself, and whilst he isn’t ‘out’ - he may never come out publicly, it is entirely his choice - there is definitely a change in Miles, he seems more settled and happy in his own skin. He said he had therapy during the bad period and hopefully that helped. Interestingly he has posted songs about difficult relationships with fathers, and without casting aspersions on Miles’ dad, I wonder if part of his earlier issues were about him trying to please him. Liverpool has quite a macho culture – especially 20-30 years ago. Let’s not forget Miles liked and commented on that beautiful poem about men who know they are gay even when they are children. Maybe it resonated….

Miles story is a fascinating one, a look at a young man fighting his inner demons to get to a point where he knows his true self. I always think Troubled Son is the counter to Body Paint. But Troubled Son is about Miles coming to terms with who he is and accepting his own faults, Body Paint is Alex keeping on his costume, which he doesn’t look like taking off any time soon. Hopefully private Alex is as happy as Miles, and it’s just that public face that looks as though their world is ending.
