Idk but I think the plot of the 1975 The Return of the Pink Panther wherein about half the plot is based on a brilliant, gorgeous, and wealthy woman masterfully stealing an incredibly precious diamond solely so she can frame her husband, who retired from his life of crime as the infamous “Phantom” years ago; which she does because her husband is incredibly bored with being retired but won’t come out of it because he’s stubborn so by pulling off a crime “only he” could do he has to (read: gets to) go off and figure out who actually stole it, which he does, after she leads him on an entertaining and incredibly dangerous trail around Europe, which he will glide through with spy movie levels of super cool/really smart/ theatrical moves, all in a series of impeccably tailored suits, which will end up with him letting himself into her gorgeous swanky hotel room in the Swiss Alps where their genuine adoration and love for each other is palpable and enough to leave you desperately yearning for what they have is all very, very Gelato coded.

lmao boy did that post about dead-end writing ideas escape containment. the people offering storycraft advice on it are sweet. i've been at it a while, i know how to unstick myself from writer's block, but knowledge shared is never wasted. maybe they'll get someone else out of a rut.

anyway, a parisian thief caper is just an adventure story about thieves set in paris. you know, the pink panther, arsène lupin, to catch a thief, ocean's eleven. most of those don't specifically take place in france, but you get the idea. like spy thrillers, it's an easy genre to get swept up in the ~*atmosphere*~, and then you remember, "oh, right. i actually have to write a plot that makes sense."
