frieren is terrible at expressing her feelings, so she learns "useless" spells as an ode to the ppl she cares about because magic is what she does best!

It’s less noticeable in the anime, but Frieren learning how to make grapes sour (ep2) when sour grapes are Eisen’s favorite (ep3 flashback) is one of my favorite details that made me tear up reading the manga.

It’s not a whole arc like her learning spells to know Himmel better. But it touched me equally… she is growing so much…. Even at the start.
