What's your opinion on the Sonic Prime Eggmans? /gen
Do I get to talk about regular Eggman too? At first I thought this was asking about him and I really wanna gush about him again but now I realize you probably mean the council more lol
I really loved the Prime version of regular Eggman! It was literally only five minutes worth but a very beautiful five minutes at that. Deem Bristow and Mike Pollock play huge parts of why I love Eggman and find him so entertaining so I didn't know how I was gonna feel about the change but Brian Drummond doesn't do a bad job, he could easily become my next favorite voice after them if he worked on it a little more.
I enjoyed how simplistically enjoyable Eggman was. Funny and silly and getting up to evil to find and steal the paradox prism and use it in his schemes. His ambition and motivation to take over the world there strong as ever and talking about wanting a world that's more him in neon was cute, I like and am fascinated by bright colors and pretty lights and want everything to be about you too Ivo dhfisbgjsbgkdh
I love the classic bickering and scolding Orbot and Cubot. I love how he tricked Sonic and went the route of taunting him then targeting his best friend Tails to piss him off enough to bait and make him snap for his plan to work, being a real bastard and calling him "stupid as Tails is ugly" lol. I loved how happy he was for it to work and how he laughed maniacally and looked like such an adorable evil bastard doing it!
Everything I love about Eggman was intact there and I was looking forward to seeing more. I expected it was gonna have the vibe of my favorite parts of X as that's what that five minutes felt like and that's exactly what I've been wanting for years, for modern Eggman to come back in a show and be just like that. I really miss Prime Egg and I wish he would come back but they threw him out in the first ep :(
He was so beautiful and charming and entertaining 🥰
I miss hiiim but I'm gonna bet that he won't return in any form beyond the prismatic titan until the very end of the show or something
As for the Chaos Council, I unfortunately have much less to say as I'm personally not a fan of them. The concept certainly had the potential but the execution is lacking. They just don't have a lot going for them, they're kind of just generic character archetypes such as Baby, Teenager, Hipster, Old Man, Not Eggman, etc. They don't have regular Eggman's personality and charm and are just like strangers in his skin.
I really wish I could like them more but both their designs and personalities don't grab me. For that I only watched the first eight episodes and never watched the second batch besides the prismatic titan Eggman parts. I'd at least have been happier if they had kept regular Eggman with them, as depicted in the concept art as he was going to be a part of the council but they decided to rid of him completely.
The most cool and interesting part of Prime to me outside of regular Eggman to me is New Yoke City. I always love seeing a world taken over by Eggman and I'm a huge sucker for the dark controlled industrialized polluted dystopian hellscape where there's propaganda everywhere on the walls, orders and rules constantly being enforced through the robot patrol saying stuff like and over PAs blasting through speakers
It's an "Eggman" ruled and controlled place, a dark shitty oppressive place and people are just mindless zombies and slaves to the harsh system because they feel hopeless to break out with no freedom, controlled, restricted, and watched. The way it's spelled New YOKE city so it sounds like "yolk" like egg but is potentially a reference to a "yoke", a type of leash to control cattle, fits how they're oppressed and controlled was right up my alley.
Seeing the real Eggman in a place like that leading the Chaos Council would've been so cool. Then it could've looked like the concept as the version that I liked a lot more than the look of the final for all the regular Eggman designed inspired assets, it even has the beautiful neon and cool lights like he wants! And I just love how much it looks like Eggmanland hehe. I really wish they'd tapped into that potential.

Just thought I'd quickly pop in to give some brief opinions about the Sonic movie, since I was fortunate enough to see it yesterday (with a full audience at that). This is by no means all that I have to say on it, but there's no harm sharing a few early thoughts for now. Some slight spoilers ahead, of course.
In short, I really enjoyed it! Even more than I thought I would, and I was already pretty pumped to see it come the last few weeks. :D
- Ben Schwartz officially has my favourite vocal portrayal of Sonic, as I feel he combines the best aspects of Jason Griffith and Roger Craig Smith's portrayals. As for Sonic himself, in a departure from how I usually feel about the character overall, I thought the titular hedgehog was actually really endearing, and not at all annoying. I also found it intriguing how they played around with Sonic's speed in unconventional yet logical ways, like how he performs basic tasks like reading in a matter of seconds, or talking to and playing games with himself.
- Jim Carrey was of course brilliant as Robotnik. He was hilarious and menacing in equal measures (and interestingly enough, both sides seemed to come together a lot of the time), he was treated as a credible threat despite his comedic quirks, and even putting Carrey's appropriate trademark hamminess aside, he truly does get Eggman's character beyond the face value aspects. His voice also seemed to be channeling a bit of Mike Pollock come his full “transformation” at the end.
- I actually quite liked Tom Wachowski, mainly because it feels like they actually tried making him a full character rather than use him as a blank slate for Sonic to compensate for as per the norm in most “fictional character in the real world” movies of this type. And although he's certainly important, Sonic is still very clearly the main character, so that helps too. He's definitely no Chris Thorndyke, and if he ends up reappearing in a sequel (which seems likely since Sonic's still on Earth and is now living with him), I'd honestly be fine with that.
- I thought the humor was pretty good for the most part, and there were a surprising number of lines that I was not expecting. A certain line by Robotnik in his very first scene in particular caught me off guard, not helped by the shit-eating grin on Carrey's face as he said it. XD There were one or two jokes at most that were a bit on the questionable side (anyone who has seen the movie can probably guess what I'm referring to), but luckily they don't last for long. And hey, if a couple of weak jokes is the most I can really criticise (compared to, say, character assassination), then I'd say it speaks well for the overall film.
- It might just be a coincidence, but I like how they alluded to Eggman's unexpected strength in the games by having Robotnik handle himself well in a fist fight. The jump cut to the burly guy at the western bar getting thrown out of the window by the doctor was awesome and got a chuckle out of me.
- I knew he was coming due to the leaks, but it still made me smile when Tails popped up at the end. And he looks great. :D I find it curious though that Tails acts like he knows Sonic, yet it seems that Sonic doesn't know Tails, given all that talk about being lonely and Tom being his first real friend and whatnot... Maybe their friendship will be brought to life in a sequel...?
- The credits sequence was just perfect, and the Special Stage references made me grin like an idiot. And I know some people will gripe about it not being a typical Crush 40 rock song, but I think Speed Me Up is pretty catchy, and still fitting for Sonic's character despite not being high-octane.
- Longclaw saying goodbye to Sonic gave me more feels than anything in the Zombot arc of IDW, which is hilarious given she was killed off immediately after she was introduced. I was actually kind of sad to see her leave the movie so soon, since she seemed like a nice character. At least we got a cameo from the echidnas in the process, and if the echidnas are around, we should probably expect a certain red one in particular to appear in the future...
- Am I looking into it too much, or is Robotnik's robotic walk in the Mushroom Planet meant to resemble the walking animation of the Death Egg Robot? Possibly foreshadowing that robot by any chance, or at least a similarly humanoid mech...?
- Am I also overthinking it when I ask if Sonic repeatedly hitting Robotnik's craft in the final battle is meant to be a reference to the classic routine of hitting him 8 times in the 2D games?
- Either way, regardless of which ones are intentional or not, it was really fun seeking out the impressive amount of Easter Eggs. Funnily enough, the Badnik label in Robotnik's truck got the biggest reaction out of me. :P I'm sure there's dozens more that I missed, but that'll be part of the joy of rewatching it, right?
- If a sequel does indeed manifest, I'm 90% sure that Metal Sonic will be involved. And depending on how they portray him (taking how Sonic and Robotnik have been portrayed into account), I honestly think he'll have the potential to be Metal's best portrayal since the OVA. But we'll see what happens.
So much on my mind, lol. I'll have more to say later on to be sure, but you get my drift for now. REALLY enjoyed the movie, definitely recommend it, and it's cathartic as hell to see Sonic get his due respect from audiences and reviewers... Although it's equally amusing to see certain groups try to cancel this movie for daring to give a shit about its intended audience, as well as the critics and Doug Walker non-fans who are still bitter that they didn't get the “glorious trainwreck” they were hoping for.
Bring on Sonic the Hedgehog 2: This Time It's Metal.

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG: VIDEO GAME BASED MOVIE IS FORMULAIC BUT OFFERS PLENTY OF FAST-PACED FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AS WELL AS LONGTIME FANS!
By Nico Beland
Movie Review: *** out of 4
The world’s fastest hedgehog hits the big screen in Sonic the Hedgehog
PARAMOUNT PICTURES AND SEGA
The blue blur (or Blue Devil as the movie calls him) makes his big screen debut in Sonic the Hedgehog, based on the beloved Sega video game franchise of the same name. Believe it or not out of all the video game franchises, my favorite is and always will be Sonic the Hedgehog and have been a proud supporter of the hedgehog since childhood.
Granted, it wasn’t until after Sega became a third-party developer for consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo when I became a fan of the blue hedgehog, but ever since I got my hands on the Nintendo GameCube port of Sonic Adventure 2 as a kid, my Sonic fandom was pretty much instant. I’ve played many of the video games both old and new, watched all the cartoons, read the comic books published by Archie Comics at the time, and I owned several action figures, plushies, and other Sonic merchandise throughout my childhood…in fact I still have most of those even to this day.
I’ve been clamoring for a Sonic the Hedgehog theatrical movie for years despite video game film adaptations usually being critical and/or box-office poison. But given the popularity of Sonic especially during the 90s when he was rivaling Nintendo’s Mario franchise who already had a theatrical film released in 1993, I’d assume one would have been made back then or at the very least in the early-late 2000s when Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Sonic Heroes as well as the hit Saturday morning anime series, Sonic X were released, I was so eager for a Sonic movie that a couple of friends and I got together and made movies of our own when we were kids (They sucked BTW!).
After years of waiting and Sonic making a few big screen appearances prior in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph movies and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, the beloved hedgehog finally gets a movie of his own which leads us to today. The film is directed by newcomer Jeff Fowler in his directorial debut, produced by Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise, XXX, 21/22 Jump Street), and executive produced by Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) and is a live-action/animated hybrid (Yep, just like Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs), which had me very worried when it was announced back in 2014 and was even more worried and disgusted when the first trailer came out last year which had an absolutely atrocious design for Sonic, fortunately they fixed it.
So, how does Sonic’s first movie hold up? Honestly, while I can’t call it the Sonic movie I wanted as a child, I had a fun time with it. It isn’t a perfect representation of its source material and the plot is pretty generic, but the charm of the film’s leads, humor, and subtle references to the games that inspired it are enough for me to overlook that flaw.
The film follows Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz-Parks and Recreation, The Other Guys, The Walk), blue anthropomorphic talking hedgehog from another dimension with extraordinary speed who travels to Earth to escape from those who want to capture him and harness his power. However, when he accidentally causes a power outage while hiding out in the town of Green Hills (Get it?), Sonic is targeted by the government and the tyrannical mad scientist, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey-Ace Ventura 1 and 2, The Mask, The Truman Show) who plots to use Sonic’s power for world domination.
This forces Sonic to team up with Green Hills sheriff, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden-X-Men franchise, Enchanted, Westworld) who agrees to help Sonic on his adventure to find his missing bag of magical rings that have the power to get him home. Of course, while getting into all sorts of trouble along the way. The film also stars Tika Sumpter (Ride Along 1 and 2, Get On Up, Southside with You) as Tom’s wife Maddie, Adam Pally (Happy Endings, The Mindy Project, Iron Man 3) as Wade Whipple, and Neal McDonough (Star Trek: First Contact, Band of Brothers, Justified) as Major Bennington.
Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog probably isn’t the movie longtime fans wanted, but it still manages to be an entertaining and fun adaptation in its own right. It’s easily one of the best films based on a video game alongside Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and The Angry Birds Movie 2 and shows that we’ve come a long way since the dark days of Uwe Boll’s directing career.
As mentioned before, the plot is nothing special and rehashed from other kids’ movies however what sets this apart from things like The Smurfs or Masters of the Universe is that Sonic and Tom do have a strong chemistry together. It’s amusing to see them interact with each other on their road trip, cracking jokes, getting into trouble, and over the course of the film they learn more about one another thus making you care more for them over ANY Smurf or Chipmunk.
While there are a few jokes that don’t quite stick the landing, the humor for the most part not only made me laugh but there were moments in this movie where I laughed hard. Whether the film was poking fun at the entire Sonicfranchise, a particular running sequence that’s obviously a reference to the Quicksilver scenes from the X-Men movies, or Sonic breaking the fourth wall similar to Deadpool, I was laughing while also admiring how clever some of these jokes are, and let’s not forget Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, but we’ll get to him momentarily.
The redesigned Sonic is a lot better than what we could have gotten, he doesn’t have those ugly small eyes, questionable muscular arms and legs, or the terrifying human teeth anymore. Now, his appearance is more faithful to the source material recreating the hedgehog’s cartoony nature but is different enough to stand out from the rest of the character’s previous designs and be its own unique creation, this is a really good design for Sonic and had the filmmakers went with their original version, this movie would have crashed and burned even harder than Sonic ’06.
Besides Sonic being more appealing to look at now, he’s also just as entertaining to listen to, Ben Schwartz while he’s far from being a replacement for Roger Craig Smith, Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith, or even Jaleel White, does a solid job providing Sonic’s voice and captures the cocky, arrogant, but good-natured attitude Sonic is known for having. He actually almost sounds like Ryan Drummond’s Sonic voice without sounding like a cheap impersonation. Moving on to Sonic’s new friend that doesn’t have two tails, James Marsden as Tom, his performance is decent even though he doesn’t quite make as big an impression as Ben Schwartz’ Sonic and especially Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. With that said, he gets some funny lines once in a while and as mentioned before has good chemistry with Sonic, so yeah, believe it or not James Marsden was partnered up with another CG animated character and this time came out with his dignity unlike his performance in Hop.
Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik owns every scene that he’s in, he’s no Mike Pollock and is a radically different Robotnik than from the games, but Carrey’s energetic and wildly animated personality shines through and gives a million percent whenever the crazy evil genius is on-screen. He’s certainly a lot better than Dennis Hopper as Koopa from the Super Mario Bros. movie.
Hopefully, this movie will be a hit during its theatrical run because I’d love to see a sequel especially if it introduced other Sonic characters like Tails, Knuckles, or even Shadow. Don’t make this like the recent Power Rangers movie, I need my big screen version of those characters!
Whether a fan, newcomer, or just looking for something fun to take the kids to, Sonic the Hedgehog should make everyone happy. It’s not perfect but it has enough action, wit, and charm to make it worth checking out. You’ll be “Up, Over, and Gone” before you know it.

LAKE TAHOE: Digital Drama Awareness Week - What Is Digital Drama/Cyberbullying?
Digital awareness week in connection with The South Lake Tahoe Police Department The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) is focusing on youth cyberbullying this week during 'Digital Drama Awareness Week' 12th-16th April 2021. Soroptimists of Tahoe Sierra and South Tahoe Now teamed up with South Tahoe Middle School and SLTPD Campus Resource Officer Jason Nixon to hold a poster contest for students with the goal of highlighting Digital Drama among students and others their age. Each day this week one of those posters will be highlighted with the winning posters announced at the end of the month. The Soroptimists are awarding the winning poster creator $50, second place $25 and third prize $5 and SLTPD is giving the 4th place a $5 gift card. WHAT IS DIGITAL DRAMA / CBYBERBULLYING? Digital drama is a new age phrase that refers to forms of abuse and violence among teens in the technology world. The National Crime Prevention Council's definition of cyber-bulling is 'when the internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass the other person.' Cyber Drama also involves pornography, child trafficking, communication with other people the youth have never met. The effects of cyberbullying can b devastating for everyone involved. Cyberbullying statistics have shown that modern technology with its ability to increase our connectivity can also be the perfect platform for bullying. The more students who use social media the more Digital Drama has become an issue. As online bullying grows, so do statistics of teen suicide and self-harm, with the past four years seeing teen suicide among those aged 15-19 increase by 32%. A goal this awareness week is to inform students of what they can do if they are involved in a cyberbullying situation. They can learn of ways of how to stop cyberbullying by exploring the roles people play and how individual actions - both negative and positive - can impact their friends and broader communities. Kids are encouraged to take the active role of upstander and build positive, supportive online communities. Cyber bullying is hate speech, its harassment, its drama. Online aggressions has consequences for everyone, because bullies feel more confident when they can hide behind a keyboard, a child mind doesn't always look at the consequences since everything one says online can be traced back to them, and if someone hurts themselves as a result of what the bully says or does, the bully can be held responsible. STATS About 20% of students aged 12-18 experienced bullying across America 64% of bullying is not reported 500,000 yearly suicide attempts by youth 5,300 youth suicides each year, the second leading cause of young deaths Bullying affects all youth, including those who are bullied, those who bully others, and those who witness bullying, the effects of the bullying may well continue into adulthood. There is not a single profile of a young person involved in bullying. Youth who bully can be either well connected socially or marginalized, and may be bullied by others as well, similarly, those who are bullied sometimes bully others, according to stopbullying.gov. Before the internet, bullies and the victim knew each other 'in person' instead of potential far-reaching cyber world. Among students ages 12-18 who reported being bullied at school during the school year, 15 persons were bullied online or by text, and an estimated 14.9% of high school students were electronically bullied in the 12 months prior to the National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice. On 11th March, 2021, Pollock Pines teen Delilah Rae Cannon, aged 12, died after taking a fatal dose of prescription antipsychotic medicine that was not hers while visiting her mother in Southern California. Her father Mike has brought her death by suicide and what lead her to do it to the public eye so other families will not have to also bury their child under the same circumstances. He said Delilah first went to school in Placerville where she was bullied, so the family moved to Pollock Pines and she changed schools but the cyber bullying continued. She then switched to Pleasant Valley middle school and changed her phone number and other contact information since the bullying continued yet again. Mike and Delilah did suffer from mental illness and was not happy with her appearance, cutting and colouring her hair often, she sought acceptance online but instead was ridiculed and made fun of, according to Mike Cannon. 'Police doesn't monitor specific social media platforms, we just try to get the world out what to do and how to act responsibility on social media,' said Officer Nixon. Nixon said a lot of his time, and the time of the school administrators, is spent on bullying situations. 'Many kids who have been bullied rise above it,' said Nixon: 'I want to reach those affected by believing what the bullies say.' This story will continue Tuesday with a look into what Digital Drama and Cyberbullying can do. This weeks schedule (Follow on the SLTPD Facebook page): 12th April 2021: What is digital drama / cyber bullying? - Consequences for suspects and victims of cyberbullying, will touch on the recent teen suicide in Pollock Pines 13th April 2021: For victims of #DigitalDrama - Steps to take if you're a victim (block people, delete accounts etc, who you can talk to, worry about your friends and not your followers. 14th April 2021: For suspects: Examples of things you're doing that you may bot think are bullying. How teasing people about food/weight/eating habits can lead to eating disorders. Making fun of clothing (underprivileged kids, never know what's going on at home). Screenshots can be doctored and shared. Never send anything you wouldn't want your parents to see. 15th April 2021: For parents: Ways to monitor your kids social media activity. Have scheduled family time to hear out your kids, even if they're talking about things you don't like or are hard to hear. Open communication with kids. Secret texting apps to look for. Link to studies for how screen-time can affect young minds. 16th April 2021: Child Porn / Sexting: Child trafficking including South Carolina kidnapping done via social media. 17th April 2021: Resources: Recap of the week - share all of the resources on keeping kids safe. Scaring Sons Into Suicide – Polecat Cast 115
Mattress Girl returns! Urban Dictionary! Wonder Woman! All this and more on this week’s Polecat Cast!
Show Notes:
Urban Warfare By Mike J.
Founded in 1999, the website Urban Dictionary has served as little more than a fun way to waste. The site allows users to add and define words or phrases, some of which more contemporary dictionaries wouldn’t dare touch. Other users then vote up or vote down these newly defined words with the highest voted ones winning the honor of being displayed more prominently than it’s rivals. Since it’s launch Urban Dictionary has become a good source for picking up cutting edge internet slang. At one point, IBM decided to upload the entire Urban Dictionary to their supercomputer Watson, but after the machine began swearing incessantly, the new lexicon was promptly removed. The Urban Dictionary has also become an unlikely battleground of sorts recently in the battle for men’s right’s. Several of the more controversial definitions such as misogynist, rape, feminism, and MRA have received popular definitions that many feminists do not approve of. It seems that not being content with ruining the Oxford English Dictionary, feminists have now set their sights on doing the same to the Urban Dictionary. But where it was much easier to make the Oxford English Dictionary kowtow with pressure from feminist in academia, the fight against Urban Dictionary won’t be that easily won.

Rape Victims Shouldn’t Like to Relive Their Rapes By Max Derrat
More famously known as Mattress Girl, Sulkowicz is back in the news, topping her past maniacal exploits. Originally, Sulkowicz proclaimed she was raped to her University, and when they decided that the evidence was against her (not that there was a lack of evidence, but that the available evidence was AGAINST HER) she proceeded to carry around a mattress for her senior year as a form of art and a form of protest. Then she did a video re-enactment of her rape online, titled Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol (French for “this is not a rape).
Now, she’s doing BDSM as performance art. At the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Project Space, she presented a piece called “The Ship is Sinking”. She describes her piece in her own words: “[I chose] to have a white man tie me up while wearing a business suit with a Whitney necktie, while I wear a Whitney ISP thong bikini.” “We’re acting out this sadistic-masochistic relationship between the institution with all of its financial power, and this program that wants to be political but can be really because it’s being tied up by this institution.”
As her performance started, the aforementioned white man, named Master Avery (who happened to be a professional dominatrix), started to insult Sulkowicz by saying things like, “Your boobs are too small”, and “You can’t even stand up straight.” He tied knots around several parts of her body for 45 minutes until she was completely tied up to a large wooden beam. Using a pulley system attached to the ceiling, she was lifted from the ground, purposefully trying to resemble the woman often seen at the front of a ship.
Then Master Avery started hitting her with a belt. Avery at one point asked if anybody wanted to participate, and one man from the audience volunteered. He proceeded to slap her across the face.
In respect to the purpose of her performance art, Sulkowicz said the following: “Historically, performance art has been a very important medium for women of color and queer people. There’s an accessibility to it, it’s the only art form that doesn’t cost money. Then there’s also that women, people of color, queer people, we live embodied history.” “My body already carries material in it just because of the way I look, it’s embedded in my skin. White men have the privilege of entire institutions built for their paintings… these paintings are very often abstract. You have people like Pollock splattering a bunch of shit and then saying it’s art. It doesn’t say anything political and in fact, that actual political statement it does say is: ‘I’m a white man and I can do whatever the fuck I want and make a ton of money off of it.”

ENOUGH With This Wonder Woman Bullshit By Max Derrat
You know that really innocuous, unimportant women-only Wonder Woman screening thing? People are apparently still talking about it for some reason, and it’s mostly because people are making so much out of it, on both sides.
One of the people fanning the flames of this intense reaction is Heat Street writer Stephen Miller. He bought a ticket to this “women-only” screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, New York, and posted a picture of his receipt on Twitter. He expressed a desire to not cause a scene, and replied the following to anybody expressing anger at his choice: “I’ll be enjoying the film with the ticket I purchased.” He also pointed out that kicking him out specifically on the grounds of sex or gender identity would be illegal. It doesn’t seem like Miller is doing this to make any positive statement. After all, in his Twitter feed, he constantly refers to the Wonder Woman movie as the “Chris Pine superhero movie.” To conclude, one Twitter user named @Bro_Pair wrote the following in response to this: “Some men lay down their lives battling white supremacists on the streets. Others demand admittance to the women-only Wonder Woman screening.” This is clearly in reference to last Friday’s Portland murders. The Daily Mail classified the murderer in this case as a self-avowed Nazi supporter, when minimal research concludes that any supposed ties to Nazi’s were disproven as false flags by the murderer to discredit Trump voters. Anybody else tired of this yet? Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4549842/Man-provokes-fury-ticket-women-WW-screening.html
Anti-Stealthing Law is Anti-Men By Mike J.
On May 16th, California assembly women Christina Garcia introduced a new rape law that would seek to punish the ill-defined and nearly unprovable act of “stealthing”. Stealthing, for those not in the know, is the act of intentionally removing or tampering with a condom during sexual intercourse. Stealthing, Christina Garcia argues, is just another form of rape. The problem with adding such a clearly flawed and biased addendum to the currently existing rape laws would be many. It would be very hard if not impossible to prove such a case as condoms can break due to improper usage or age. It creates the possibility for false allegations against men by women who have become pregnant by accident. It also says nothing on the topic of women who would tamper with contraceptives to become pregnant, despite a male sexual partners wishes. Assembly women Garcia is no stranger to pushing these ill-conceived amendments to current rape laws. In August of last year she helped pass an amendment that would make any form of an alleged non-consensual act be defined as rape. Sadly, this new law, like those before it, seems likely to pass given Governor Jerry Brown history with approving every new rape law amendment put through by congress.

Scaring Sons Into Suicide By L Kemlo
An Illinois family is claiming a school discipline meeting scared their son into suicide. Corey Walgren, 16, jumped to his death in January, less than three hours after meeting with school officials and police at Naperville North High School.
The meeting was about an alleged cellphone recording of a consensual sexual encounter with a female classmate. Corey had no criminal history and had never been in serious trouble at school. Corey’s parents claim the school officials questioned him about “child pornography” and threatened to have him registered as a sex offender. According to the Chicago Tribune, Corey’s mother thinks the school wanted to scare him straight, “instead, they scared him to death.”
According to the Tribune it does not appear any pornographic images were found on the teen’s phone, but it did contain a file with audio of the sexual encounter. Apparently, the female classmate in the recording alleged that he may have played it for his friends. Records of the meeting show police did not intend to pursue charges, but wanted to handle the matter in a way that ensured Corey understood the seriousness of his actions and how it affected his classmate, who was described as “mortified” in the police report.
After the meeting, the school had contacted his mother but Corey left school grounds and walked to a nearby parking garage, where he jumped to his death. His parents plan to sue the school district and the police department.

Halloween is the rarest of rare times when the villains get to run rampant with their merrymaking. Of course for some of them, being a villain is just their job when the audience is present. Take it from Bad Guys Anonymous from Wreck-it Ralph and its sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet. As the films are primarily set within Litwak’s Arcade, this allows for Disney to experiment with all sorts of villains and enemies from video games past and present, with Bad-Anon being the defining example in the film. Of course, there are a few viewers who don’t know who most of these are, or haven’t played a game yet; without further ado, I will give the run-down as to who’s who in Bad-Anon, starting with the generic ones. In this case, 1011001, Shinobi, Cycloptopus, and Sorceress. All three of them represent various enemies and bosses found in various arcade games, with Shinobi being representative of ninja enemies, 1011001 representing robotic enemies, Sorceress representing witches and succubi (including playable ones), and Cycloptopus representing stock fantasy monsters like the Beholder from Dungeons and Dragons.
Saitine (pronounced “Sah-teen”)
Saitine, in comparison to the four previous members, may represent the idea of Satan appearing in older video games, but a more definitive answer to what game he is from is Bally Midway’s 1982 shoot ’em up Satan’s Hollow. Gameplay is similar to Galaga and Space Invaders, both by Namco, but themed instead to a demonic hoard with Satan appearing as a “boss” character.
Dr. Wily
I know what you’re thinking, “But Wily wasn’t in the film!” Actually, he was going to be in the film, but was cut for unknown reasons and replaced by Shinobi. Wily originally debuted in the first Mega Man game on 12/17/1987 and appeared in almost every game following. Throughout the Mega Man series, Wily uses an army of Robot Masters (special term for boss characters) to aid in his bid for world domination, with Mega Man, a former robotic lab assistant to Wily’s old partner Dr. Light, being the main threat to his operations. At an unknown point in time in the series’ future, Wily creats a super robot named Zero to act as his ace-in-the-hole, carrying a deadly computer virus that would infect other artificial lifeforms. He passed away sometime at an unknown point in time later, but his influence could still be felt by this new virus called “the Maverick Virus,” continuing onwards through the Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, and Mega Man ZX series.
Bowser
Who were you expecting, the tooth-fairy?
Arguably one of the most iconic villains in gaming, Bowser debuted on Friday September 13th, 1985 in the original Super Mario Bros. as the main antagonist. In most of his appearances throughout the Mario franchise, Bowser’s main goal is to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, primarily by kidnapping its ruler, Princess Peach, doing battle with both Mario and Luigi. Various spinoffs have seen Bowser act as either an NPC or a playable character, with the RPG titles having Bowser mainly as a boss character but with at least four having him as one of the playable characters (Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario and Luigi 3, Super Paper Mario). Rather recently, Bowser has become part of an internet meme called “Bowsette” based on the recent announcement of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Switch and the release of the Super Mario Odyssey artbook. Nintendo gave specific input on how Bowser should hold and drink his coffee in the scene, which Disney followed to a T.
Zangief
Truth be told, Zangief isn’t a villain persay, but Phil Johnston, one of the writers for the film, added him as a bad guy because of how much trouble he had going up against him in Street Fighter II’s heyday in the early 1990’s. Zangief debuted in Street Fighter II in 1991 as one of eight playable characters, hailing from the USSR (later changed to Russia in rereleases) and fighting using his skills as a professional wrestler. In his native Russia, he is a national hero both in the game and in real life where he is adored by Russian gamers, especially since he is good friends with former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, with Gorbachev still appearing in later games as a cameo of sorts. Interestingly enough, various adaptations, other than the comics by UDON, portray Zangief as a bad guy, referencing the fact that the Soviets were seen as the bad guys during the Cold War when the game was released. Normally, Zangief is voiced by Anthony Landor, the voice of Golbez from Final Fantasy IV, but in the film he is voiced by the director, Rich Moore.
Dr. Eggman
Formerly known as “Dr. Ivo Robotnik,” Eggman first appeared in the original Sonic the Hedgehog game on 6/23/1991 on the Sega Genesis, appearing in all but two games in the series. His main goal is to conquer the world and rule it as part of the Eggman Empire, using an army of robots called “Badniks” to aid in his conquest. Eggman also has had the most varied ammount of designs in the media as seen in the games prior to 1998 (recently resurfacing in both 2011’s Sonic Generations and 2017’s Sonic Mania), British literature (such as Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic) and the cartoon Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (which used to air on Toon Disney), the now cancelled Archie comic (which was shared with the 1993 animated series on ABC and 1999’s Sonic Underground), games released after 1998 as seen above in art for the anime Sonic X, and the recent Sonic Boom series on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Eggman was one of the few villains to be voiced in test scenes for the film, provided by Jim Cummings, who voiced the versions seen in the ABC cartoon and the pilot episode of AoStH. The current voice as of 2003, Mike Pollock, was unaware of the recording sessions for the film.
M. Bison
Delicious
Not to be confused with his underlings Balrog and Vega, Bison is the main antagonist in the Street Fighter franchise, debuting as the final opponent in Street Fighter II. Nearly every event that unfolds in the series is because of his bid for world domination through his terrorist organization Shadowlaw. Bison wields a special form of power called “Psycho Power” which is powered by his chi and pure evil. As for why pure evil, he ripped out the good half of his soul for more Psycho Power! Bison is responsible for the deaths of Dorai (father of Chun-Li), Charlie Nash (best friend of Guile), a village of gypsies from Genoa (leading to the birth of his good counterpart, Rose), and Arojo Hawk (father of Thunder Hawk), as well as the creation of the Doll Project which involves the kidnapping of nearly a dozen young women from around the globe, brainwashing them, and renaming them with various foreign spellings of the 12 months (Enero, Février, März, Aprile, Satsuki, Juni, Juli, Santamu, Xiayu, Jiayu, Noembelu, Decapre), as well as the creation of a few backup bodies, who ultimately broke away from his influence (Cammy White, Seth, Abel, Ed). By the time Story Mode takes place in Street Fighter V, his body is starting to decay rapidly from his overuse of the Psycho Power, and is eventually destoryed once and for all by series protagonist Ryu. Unlike Zangief, Bison is voiced by his usual actor, Gerald C. Rivers, providing his sole line of “You’re not going Turbo, are you?” This one line is a clever bit of foreshadowing as to King Candy’s true identity as well as a reference to Super Street Fighter II Turbo, where he is killed by the game’s secret boss Akuma.
Clyde
The main organizer of Bad-Anon, Clyde is one of the four ghosts that debuted in Pac-Man in 1980, alongside Inky, Pinky, and Blinky. In Bally Midway’s sequel Ms. Pac-Man, he was replaced by Sue, before Capcom made both the Ms. and Sue (now colored purple) canon in Pac-Land, one of the very first side-scrolling video games. Clyde is shown as the leader of the four ghosts in various media, including Hanna-Barbera’s animated series where he was voiced by Neil Ross. In the Pac-Man World games, he and Blinky accidentally switched names, making him the red ghost and Blinky into the orange ghost. In the film he is voiced by Phil Johnston.
Neff
This is taking the “Be careful who you call ugly in highschool” meme to the next level. Neff (otherwise known as Majin in Japan) is the main anatagonist of Sega’s Altered Beast, a sidescrolling beat ’em up released in 1988 before being ported to the Genesis in 1989 as a launch title. His main goal is to take over Olympus, by holding Athena for ransom towards Zeus, turning her into a dove in cutscenes. Zeus brings a centurion back to life to rescue his daughter from this evil warlock from the infernal city of Dis, fighting his way through five to eight stages (depending on the version) and encountering a copy of Neff in a different form, after a brief threat towards the centurion with a voice-sampled line of “Welcome to your doom!”. In Wreck-it Ralph, Neff appears as a large purple rhino, which is how he is fought as the final boss in the game, after he has taken enough damage. The overall design of Neff’s rhino form resembles that of the rhino from Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ football game (by football, I mean what the US and Canada refer to as soccer.)
Kano
Although renamed as “Cyborg” in the film, Kano hails from the Mortal Kombat series, a fighting game that is popular in the West and well-known for its over-the-top violence, motion-captured graphics, and finishing moves known as “Fatalities”. While I myself have not played any MK game, I do know that what Kano does to the zombie next to him is his most well-known Fatality, “Heart Rip”, where he pulls a Mola Ram on his opponent by tearing out their still-beating heart before crushing it. In the games, Kano is primilarily voiced by Michael McConnohie, but in Wreck-it Ralph he is voiced by writer Brian Kessinger.
Cyril
Zombie bad guy!
Unlike how Kano was toned down from MK to film in a subtle way, Disney went all out on toning down Cyril (or Zombie as he is known in the film) from Sega’s lightgun game House of the Dead. The series plays almost similar to a B-rated horror movie, with antagonists themed after the Major Arcana tarot card set. Cyril appears as the first of many zombie enemies in the series.
To wrap things up, I think the most fitting way is to recite the Bad-Anon creed
“I’m bad, and that’s good. I will never be good, and that’s not bad. There’s no one I’d rather be than me.”
Bad Guys Anonymous Halloween is the rarest of rare times when the villains get to run rampant with their merrymaking.
