"You're not thinking fourth dimensionally."
Excuse you, I’ve been doing nothing but thinking of the fourth dimension as a Byler. 🤨
I can’t stop thinking about how a wheel represented time freezing around Will. Likely representing a Wheeler.

Most annoying NMJ or JC take is when someone that dislikes them is like "oh you're a fan of him? *scoff* Well obviously you've only seen cql, where he was super watered down. In the novel he's a dislikable asshole and that's the objectively superior canon I'm working from instead of your woobified fanfic." Meanwhile your main canon is novel canon and you genuinely find novel Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue complex sympathetic characters.

Huh, I just noticed something. The majority it seems, at least according to the characters mentioned in the notes and tags of that post, to be headcanoned to be trans (the gender they are in canon) are characters who are guys in canon being headcanoned as transmasc. And now come think of it, I dont remember the last time I saw a character that isn't a guy in canon be headcanoned as a trans guy. Meanwhile trans fem headcanons are a lot of the time appled to characters who are guys in canon (not always! Trans Noelle Holiday comes to mind), so that's a thought. Not sure what it means or if my observations are even correct, but it's something.
i think you made a good observation, it's just a matter of what angle you approach it with: characters with contested trans headcanons (male AND female) tend to be men in the source material because statistically those are the characters that get the most fandom attention

playing disco elyisum for like the 4th time while my partner (who hadn't played it at all) watched was such a fun experience. Going "oooooo whats this? o_o" towards the sunken motor carriage, intriguing my partner to only emotionally wreck him. brilliant. getting him hyped on the little moments like fuck the world n piss faggot. getting him super intrigued in dolores dei n jean vic. and kim of course. and the world building in general!! the pale and politics!! so fun even though he was just watching! in the end he was the one urging me to rest before confronting the deserter, only to be confronted w dora. and then im the one being begged by him not to pick the options like [kiss her] while controlling harry? god . its something else . highly recommend

i think my biggest gripe with the comparison between zuko and john smith and zutara as a whole to pocahontas is that john smith was an active colonizer. he was a grown man who chose and was proud of what he was doing. he didnt even believe the act of colonization was wrong. yes, he tried to end the violence in the movie, but he still lived with the belief that his people deserved to and were entitled to co exist on that land with the indigenous people.
zuko was an active participant in dismantling a hundred years of colonialism and colonization and genuinely wanted to fix the problems that his ancestors had left for him. it wasn’t easy and he wasn’t a perfect leader, but he was genuinely trying to make decisions that would be for the better of all the people, not just himself or his people. where john smith thought that indigenous ppl needed the white people’s help to become “more civilized” because he viewed them as inferior, zuko sought to give those that the fire nation had hurt their autonomy back.
that’s not to say that it isn’t a valid reason to dislike zutara, and if the idea makes you uncomfortable that’s fine and i respect it. i realize that the ship doesn’t appeal to everyone and that’s okay, but i just hate the comparisons because john smith was genuinely just an awful person who never should’ve been glorified in a disney movie.

eiffel's problem is that he sees every injustice as an interpersonal issue. he doesn't understand how his flippancy or apparent leniency towards hilbert might look to hera; in his mind, it doesn't contradict his support for her. to eiffel, it seems obvious - he is also one of hilbert's victims, hera is his friend, of course he's completely on her side - but he fails to fully grasp how the stakes are different for her.
ep 19: "you need to stop treating this like a joke, officer eiffel." / "hey, i'm the person for whom the joke tolls." / "i get you're scared he put something inside you. but i hope you haven't forgotten emergency code alpha victor. he put that in me." and ep 51: "they're just jokes! they don't really mean anything." / "see, eiffel, you get to have that. they can be 'just jokes' for you because you're... well, you. but we don't get that."
the issue in shut up and listen is eiffel's repeated, if unintentional, microaggressions, but it's also his general use of dark humor as a coping mechanism - jokes he feels justified in making because of how the subjects of those jokes have impacted him. eiffel sincerely believes in treating people equally, but his idea of 'equal treatment' can be idealistic and naive. he has an awareness of interpersonal harm, but he's lived most of his life without ever being confronted with the reality of structural harm - being pre-judged and othered and having his life devalued on the basis of outside categorization.
but the thing about that is that it has happened to him, too. eiffel is an addict, and a convict, and marked as from a lower socioeconomic class than minkowski or lovelace, and those things are the reasons goddard futuristics was able to buy him as prison labor and - without his consent - consider him expendable for medical experimentation. none of that is a coincidence, but he doesn't see the systems at work, only his own actions and regrets. which he then equivocates to the worst actions of people who don't share his sense of morality or guilt.
eiffel's ability to recognize and bring out the humanity in the people around him is one of his best qualities, but... on the basis of his identity, he's been able to live a life where he conceptualizes himself as the default person, and that's been reinforced by the pop culture he loves so much. that's a massive blind spot. he assumes everyone navigates the world in a similar way, and so, on some level, he sees everyone around him as an extension of or a reflection of himself. if evil is always personal, then it can always be reasoned with.

I forgot his name was Liam. He was mad at me before. But now he is nice to me. He's helping me host my show. Kind of like my co-host or some thing. Yeah.

My madoka magica hot take is I like sayaka/kyoko as a ship more than madoka/homura
#madoka magica#both ships are very very good and make me feral but god kyoko/sayaka really caters to me#i am biased cuz sayaka is my favorite character lol and i just want good things for her#but i mean we get them as enemies fighting to the death obsessively like sayaka gets so focused on proving herself to kyoko she cant think#of anything else and she wastes her energy fighting her instead of witches and just the foil like#both used their wish to grant something for someone else and kyoko lost everything as a result and decided that nothing good will ever come#of helping others so she should only look after number one and of course shed think that cuz shes all she has left#meanwhile sayaka refuses to take care of herself because she never wants others to suffer so she only exists for others#and both of them change their perspectives in pursuit of each other theyre literally red and blue#and i love seeing the development of their relationship and kyokos feelings i love her offering to kill ryosuke for sayaka#and how terrified she is in that moment when she sees sayakas lifeless body separated from the soul gem#or how she shares her story and remembers why she started fighting because of sayaka and fucking#THE WAY SHE ACTS SELFLESSLY AND STUPIDLY OPTIMISTIC TO SAVE SAYAKA FROM HER WITCH FOR#THE WAY SHE SACRIFICES HERSELF TO CONNECT WITH HER THE LOVE SONG#THEM HOLDING HANDS WHILE SAYAKA CRIES AND KYOKO IS THERE FOR HER AND THEY UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER SO WELL#god fucking dammit these fucking gay people are ruining my sleep#yeah idk if its obvious but i have a specific type when it comes to ships i love when characters beat each other up and are the center of#each others motivations and go through the horrors together and come out the other side and love each other deeply#love each others flaws and theres understanding and tenderness#i haaaave to draw them but i also have to draw a lot of blorbos rn alkksk

since i’m basically on the topic of witteclaw characterization i REAAAALLLY wish the fandom would portray caleb as less of a “quirky good boy goofball” and more of a “jaded pilgrim who only let his walls down after meeting someone (evelyn) who he feels safe with.”
like the characterization is fine and i can’t blame anyone for it but it would just be. waaay more interesting if caleb was more cold and distant outwardly, ESPECIALLY to evelyn. like if we EVER get a spinoff wittebros i hope it’s completely from evelyn’s perspective so we can see him to be MEAN i want him to be ALOOF and OFF PUTTING.

Is there any feeling of betrayal Seventeen has towards his twin for where their respective lives have ended up and how distant their relationship is now? Did he once assume they were more alike, more similarly "damaged", than they've ended up being? I feel like there might be a part of him that wonders why she was able to adjust to a conventional, mundane life and he wasn't.
It's...a little complicated.
On one hand, it's not like he wants Eighteen to have a bad life. They might not be close, and they might not have ever really seen eye to eye in terms of their respective temperaments, but the fact remains that, given their wildly isolating and traumatic shared history, there are things about each other that they both just get, in ways that no one else ever wholly will or can. The kinship between them isn't defined by blood alone. That's what he thinks, anyhow.
On the other hand though, there is absolutely a weird, bitter little kneejerk impulse in him that sometimes does the spiritual equivalent of looking Eighteen's new, cushy, domestic life up and down and going, 'so…did this happen because you organically fell in love and decided that starting a family was what you wanted to do? Or did you just shrug and passively let 'wife' and 'mommy' become your new thing because that gave you a sense of meaning faster and easier than being alone and having to decide proactively who and what you wanted to be would have?'
It's not fair of him to feel or think those things just because she's gone and done something with herself that he wouldn't have expected before and that he still doesn't quite understand. He knows it's not fair of him. While he doesn't resent her for wanting to find satisfaction, he does feel some kind of way over the fact that (from his perspective) she essentially just pruned him from her life as soon as something easier came along. She was never exactly the emotionally demonstrative sort in the first place -- (and, in fairness, neither was he) -- so, perhaps more than betrayed exactly, what he really feels is an occasional, tangled, amorphous little squeeze of 'I don't know what I expected', ‘cool, glad I know exactly where I stand; thanks for that’, 'I didn't even do anything to you', and ‘must be nice being a cute girl that can always rely on someone else wanting to take care of you and treat you like you're valuable, huh?'
Mostly though, he just kind of tucks that feeling, whatever word(s) one might use for it, into a box in the back of his mental closet and doesn't waste his time thinking about it too much. It just is what it is, and at this point it's not really his business anyway.

If the mali-algeria fallout continues (esp if Mali recognizes Morocco's position on SADR like Moroccan media is rumoring) then that should be pretty demonstrative that the Malian junta isn't just a baseless controlled Russian puppet state

irrationally it cracks me up that we're given two snape's flashback chapters and in both we see how perfect Sirius and James fit (from the first conversation!), how taken they are with each other. It probably drove Snape mad even more, not only they hated him and made his life worse, they were so obnoxiously, undeniably happy together.
sksks you know that feeling of being SO filled w rage when people u hate are successful? (*coughs* me & remrem *coughs*) i feel like that’s snape wrt j&s all the time lol. it’s pretty canon that he’s a bitter, petty individual and i can’t see it being any better in his youth so imagining him around these two sappy fuckers, when his own love life is going to shit,,,,
he’s just frothing at the mouth and clenching fists and screaming crying throwing up all the time

Something ive been thinking about recently re: music is like. I've been realizing how damaging some of the lyrics and mentality to them are. Especially for bring me the horizon actually. Ive been listening to them a bunch for a long time, but recently with the new songs even though they slap ive been noticing a lot of recurring bad feelings
I know it can be really cathartic to people to listen to music like that (I've personally coped very much with avalanche for example) and im the first one that listens to dayseeker which is certified agony music but something about it has actually started to ring alarm sounds in my brain, especially with all the latest bmth releases.
Im not smart enough to word this in a nuanced way but there is a line between the artist coping with their art form, people relating to the struggles, and then being trapped by the belief of "if i can relate to this then surely it must be true"
Though i think I might be becoming wary because a lot of what im hearing in the songs coincides with toxic mentalities of people ive dealt with before (ie. Agony induced 'its all my fault, everyone leaves, idk what's wrong with me' type stuff. Theyre common depression feelings but also have been used as weapons to keep themselves in the depression cycle. There's a more nuanced conversation to have about that that im not including here so take it as a general oversimplification). Very easy to relate to if you are in a depression cycle but very damaging if you sink too much into thinking like that, because it can actually perpetuate your bad feelings ad nauseum
