5, 12, 22 and 30 for the asks!
Yayy thank you!! More asks from this (..◜ᴗ◝..)
5. A scene you enjoyed creating
If I could I would just say every single guriten sketch. But to play by the rules I did really love making this sketch:
Tumblr media
It was really enjoyable to draw some subtle yaoi but also the drawing grew on my over time and it's one of my personal favourites <3
12. A concept you'd like to develop next year
Uahg. The predictable creature that I am.. more guriten. I have a couple ideas for more comics. Both might take me awhile to get to, but without spoiling too much one would be sweet where I want to explore an idea that revolves around kisses, and the other would hurt a little more. Still sweet bits in between but I want to really dig into how Tenma and Grimmer's relationship might look if Grimmer made it out and how that might cause emotional tension (or comfort) from lingering trauma. I'm crossing my fingers I can properly make either of these a reality :' )
22. An Idea you had that didn't make the cut
Not fanart but I did want to make an illustration of a series of multiple Westers in a similar portraits/panels that repeated and went over the years he experienced up to the present. So basically something like.. a young 1st year uni wester, another where he's looking more experienced in school, then another where he's trying to keep himself together, post accident wester, recovery, then a couple for the present with the party. However it just wasn't feeling right when I was drawing it out so I shelved it. Maybe another idea will come along where I can properly articulate his timeline visually!
30. Advice to yourself (and maybe others) for the new year
Just make the thing!!! You may hate it, it might suck, but at least you gave it a go and you'll be more experienced for doing it! Self criticism can be beneficial when trying to improve but too much perfectionism will kill the joy in art making so learn to let things go and find things to be proud of!!! And also stop being embarrassed to draw things that make you happy or you enjoy lol.
(This is mostly just for myself, kinda writing advice to remind myself of things I've really been working on internalizing, but if anyone wants to take something from this pls do haha!)

Picturing myself [left] and The inspiration [right] consuming me in a good way, getting under my skin and leaving some kind of impact
Never posted this old self portrait, still feels pretty personal... but I like how it looks fresh even couple years later
The piece is about healing, letting yourself go and enjoying the very special things
Posting this on my insta I wrote:
"I hate this caption but this time the context is important. At some point we all experience our ups and downs and music was always something that really inspired me to live and create. Not just fanarts, but my personal ideas, because every melody has an artist behind it. Again this piece is more than a year old... I didn't know how to finish it. It's really hard to express how listening to some of my favorite songs becomes absolutely euphoric and i decided to picture the way it 'gets in your head'."

I will say though; I love the design for General Alex Miles from Federation Force. It perfectly blends the Federation Marine and Federation formal attire together perfectly;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given one is from Prime and the other from the mainline games, Miles’ outfit basically marries the two depictions of the Federation from either series together. The gold is such a nice touch too… I’d love to see fanart of Miles in a non-chibi art style, and as a full-body portrait too; I don’t think we ever see Miles in person, just from the chest up?
They’re an interesting character to me; Neither their gender or even species is clarified, but the latter might be human because of the name and build. Miles’ name reminds me of Adam Malkovich… Alex Miles… They’re the Federation Force’s CO, their own Adam, just as the pilots themselves are akin to Samus in terms of gameplay and being unique Federation assets. Miles notably wants the Metroid egg on Talvania, saying it could bring “good” to the galaxy… Big red flag of course.
But it IS worth noting that the primary objective of the mission is to destroy all Metroids on Talvania by activating the self-destruct; The egg is optional and secondary. And when the Metroids are released from containment after the Federation Force activated the self-destruct countdown, Miles tells them to forget about the Metroid egg and just focus on getting out of there; You have to go against their orders by retrieving the egg anyway, and risking yourself to do so.
So Miles is interesting to me in that they might actually be well-intentioned? Or at least care for their troops. Given their introduction in Federation Force, which sets up Sylux’s plans in Beyond, it makes you wonder if Miles will appear there too. Are they corrupt? Do they care, in a “The path to hell is paved with good intentions” sort of way?
Will we see them replace or work alongside Dane in Beyond? They’re a General, which means they command ground troops and infantry; Dane commands the fleet. I speculate the planet we see at the start of Beyond, as well as the rainforest, are both the same world; Probably Cylosis, possibly across different points in time. Which means we won’t see much of space nor the Federation fleet; Which makes Miles more suited as a CO for Samus here, since all Federation allies will be situated on the ground.
Then again, Miles is seen commanding a fleet during the Doomseye battle in Federation Force, so maybe the titles are being loosely used and the developers don’t care for real world accuracy when it comes to military ranking and hierarchy; Tbh I’ve normally never cared either and am only researching it for the sake of reconciling the different depictions and uniforms of the Federation, as well as considering how characters such as Dane, Adam, and Miles interact.
I remember seeing someone suggest that Alex Miles is Sylux; This is why they suggested getting the Metroid egg, and how they were able to sneak in, operate the tech, etc. But this makes you wonder, if they hate the Federation, why value the Force’s lives? Why help them defeat the Space Pirates in the Bermuda system? I guess it all boils down as to the exact nature of Sylux’s hatred for the Federation, if it’s because they’re corrupt but they sympathize with troops they know personally as good people.
Granted Sylux’s intro in Hunters might indicate otherwise, but there could also be other context to that scene, or they don’t know those troops and can’t take the time to evaluate them. As for attacking the Space Pirates, maybe Sylux is strategically maneuvering both factions into destroying one another; It would explain why they’ve never worked with the Space Pirates before and even competed against Weavel in the Alimbic Cluster; They hate the pirates too!
Miles is probably meant to be male and the developers just never considered the gender-ambiguity of the name Alex. But it’d be fun if Miles was a woman, maybe even an alien because Chairman Keaton has a name like that despite also looking like that. And we could meld this with Female Sylux speculation if they’re the same character after all. They’re both mysteriously masked too, though for Miles I imagine it’s because the developers thought a human face would look too silly in the Chibi art style, hence why everyone wears helmets, and Samus never takes hers off. I guess ‘Sylux’ and ‘Alex’ have similar second syllables…

Ciao Ash I’ve been following your work super closely for a few years and I now feel like I can ask you this, especially since you seem to be so kind with everyone and always explain yourself so well!
I work in illustration and I’ve been drawing for 10 years. For the kind of illustration I do, I rarely have to draw characters. I can draw people, in a very detailed manner too (portraits and studies and such) but when it comes to incorporating characters in my illustration style, I just can’t seem to get it right. Especially with characters who don’t exist so if I want to do fanart, I always have to do it in a way that is not very coherent to my illustration style. Which is unfortunate since I’m in a lot of fandoms and would really like to make fanart I like.
I rely on references a lot, so if I have to draw someone who exists in my style, I struggle and study and put a lot of work and time in but then I’m mostly able to. But characters from fiction? Absolutely not. I especially struggle with consistency: the character always looks different every time I draw them, no matter how many notes on their physiognomy I make…the fact that’s not a real person I can copy the features of on paper really hinders my practice. I also struggle with immediacy and synthesis: since they never look the same I always end up over - characterizing them and that is the opposite of how I illustrate.
How were you able to maintain such a consistent and stable look to these characters? Is there something I don’t know of or that I haven’t been doing and that I should? You really inspire me and I admire your work SO much! It’s remarkable how you built such a recognizable look.
Ti prego aiutami sto diventando pazzo in culo se non risolvo questa cosa voglio disegnare i miei blorbi !!!!
All the love,
Elio
Ciaooo aaa ty for the nice wordsss :’))
and ok i will try to answer as best as i can bc i’m not a professional in the slightest and also i basically have the diametrically opposite problem as you 😭 90% of my art is blorbo oriented i’m a blorbo artist first human being second. but it’s not like i have the charisma uniqueness nerve and talent to stray much from that.
ANYWAY that being said i’m sorry to give you the Very Hated answer of “u just gotta practice” but i think that’s true! i think drawing characters outside of studies (which are always nice and good etc) might not be something you’re used to, and u just need to stretch your drawing muscles a bit in that direction too!! style and consistency are something that develop organically, so i’m sure that if you keep trying you’ll look at your art one day and be like “oh shit this works!”
Usually when i draw characters i’ve never drawn before i make little studies/portraits to figure out how to draw them (evidence 1/2/3/4) which i think could be a pretty low stake way for you to practice? like maybe you can start off with one referenced portrait and then try to draw the same face from other angles but without looking at that reference and just try to figure out what are the important features that make that face recognizable? Expression sheets are another way u could do this, and then you’d have a nice self made reference board for next time.
or you could start smaller and draw different shapes of eyes/noses/mouths etc to get the hang of it, and once you’re satisfied start building your character with the features you’ve drawn
lastly i cannot stress this enough draw that blorbo NOW!! get fucking obsessed with that freak!!! let them fuel you with the brainrotting blazing passion of 28473 suns and you’ll manage to draw a hundred beautiful faces without even noticing
spero che tu riesca a cavar fuori qualcosa di utile da questo sfaso 😭 in ogni caso sono sicura che riuscirai a disegnare i tuoi blorbini devi solo smadonnare un po’ quando necessario e andare avanti 💕
grazie mille ancoraaaa mwah

less of an ask and more of a compliment i love the way your tags are organized…”decay as a commodity” “bodies shifting in narrow spaces” etc is it your own original work or quoting from a song/poem/or something?
helloo angel and welcomee to the show, its always such a joy when people appreciate my silly little tagging system. they're all just random sentences i thought up ages ago, , just to make sense of the mess in front of you etc y'know how it gets love. i couldn't really get behind tagging things as "art" "people, faces places things" etc. i needed to inject a bit of flavour to the whole thing (let this not be read as a subtle jab towards any new york based tumblrinas , we're above that c'mon now). i wouldn't say these little phrases are "personal" by any means but they have been motifs i wanted to actively explore in the art i make so no harm putting them up here i guess haha
for posterity's sake i thought i'd just copy an explanation of my tags from an old ask
decay as a commodity : okay so i envisioned this as a way to just summarize modern living? i think of a whole blueish neon color scheme with this one. my line of thinking was,, with the world slowly rotting away and living becoming so expensive and exhausting, whats the one commodity we all share? wouldn't it be decay? aren't we all slowly fading together etc etc. i use this for images with cooler muted tones and anything with a futuristic vibe,, along with some grimey, monochrome photography
the setting dawn: this is the polar opposite of decay, i think of it as "hope beyond hope" a la Prior Walter's line in Angels in America. i know "the setting sun " might sound more natural but i think of it as,, dawn , when the sun breaks through - in this short period the world starts to wake. qs the dawn sets the day kicks in, with all its routine misery. Dawn i think, is the only time the sun is kind to you, because its still hidden away at least slightly. But the day truly starts and itbeats down on you. And yet we continue to live, past the boredom and the pain, we live past hope, past the quiet comfort of dawn. I use this for pictures with earthy tones and things on the more uplifting side
bodies shifting in narrow spaces: this has some overlap with the decay tag, im not as organized as i need 2 be. i use this for figures & portraits ill want to draw or just really any photography i like that features a human presence. think of it as people so dependent on an outside gaze they constantly try to reinvent themselves, or just, everyday people, getting less and less time to live, having to work and forcing themselves into relationships with any real connection
original sin and other contingencies: im trying to fit this in for more risque photography and maybe things on the more gory side. how do i explain this.. okay so... when there's nothing left to do you'll always have sin to turn to just yo keep yourself occupied, along with other methods/contingencies u get the jist
linen that lingers: my fashion tag nothing more 2 it
the canvas as testimony: for art that is made for the gallery or art that is held in higher regard i guess, more high culture. it includes painting, sculptures, along with architecture,, but maybe i should make an architecture tag. i think of the things here as more personal efforts
motion on a still surface: for art that is energetic and really pops off the page. includes comics, manga, fanart, animation. stuff here may be more low culture but really its not. i just differentiate these art tags as ,,one is stuck to the canvas whatever that canvas may be, while the other leaps off the page
word on a wing let me soar: books, poetry, articles, journals , all words that i adore
a conversation with the self: i wanted this to be for things that are very personal to me but i just use my other tags
angels in descent: my little funny haha tag for yknow ,,, funny haha. yknow the "devil's rejects" the movie? like its a way of saying people so horrible no even the devil would take them. okay so i thought " god's rejects " but that's lame. so i landed on this, like idk...imagine angels falling from grace
arcade shuffle: for my little viddy games lol. sorry for being a #gamergirl but yes it happens sadly ,,moving on
jet jump jive: for songs
at the pictures: for movies,, like imagine im going "cant talk im at the pictures wheee ^_^"
there is such a great distance between now and later: to track my art and writing progress but i barely use it cause it barely draw or write these days i blame the wave of despair that washeth over me
proof of concept: photos i took but there's like almost nothing here
misc that are just funny 2 me like i do it 4 a little chuckle i deserve it:
screw it posting hole - for hole the band
bowies in spaaace - for bowie, after the flight of the concords song cmon its a little funny at least cmon now
twink speaks- for twin peaks lol

I am back after a break to ask for commissions again! I really could use the money while I am out of work. I've retooled the commission tiers and added a new one that'll hopefully work financially better, but if you still can't, please please PLEASE donate to my ko-fi.com/lspicerart because any little bit helps! New commission tiers are below. My commissions are SFW only. To secure a limited spot, you MUST pay the commission price first:
$50 tier: The fanart tier
I will draw fanart of your favorite character! Mostly chibis for this one, but if you want a full fanart piece or want multiple characters we can negotiate with the price for that!
$100: Cute animal tier
I will draw cute animals for you! These can be used for just about anything, especially as a gift to a friend! Any additional animal will be +$25
$150: The OC tier
You have an original character chibi or full body? I will draw them! I will also design an original character for you at this tier! You will receive a full character sheet. The only thing I ask is you give me credit for the design, but once I make that design, it is all yours!
$200-$300: Self portrait tier
You want a chibi self portrait or an icon to display online of yourself? This is the tier for you! I will create a portrait that matches your request and vision to bring out the best of you!
It would really help me if you commissioned or donated, so please do! And please share this post so that I can get folks who can commission me. Thank you!!

In response to the other anon asking if you guys look for our identities, frankly i couldnt care less if you know who i am, its fairly easy to figure out. i just like reasons to relate myself to Deer. I did a self portrait once as a deer mount pouring blood. it was quite...something. definitely got a lot of responses to that one.
as for art being subjective vs objective:
i can see where each of you in coming from in that sense. some things ARE blatantly what they are and it would be kind of wild to say otherwise. like who am i to tell Da Vinci that the Mona Lisa is actually an space cat alien, not a woman. but i do still think its possible to get multiple interpretations out of her.
i will also be the first to say im not a fan of the genre of what is technically in the art world called a "ready-made". basically like what you said, taking an object that already exists, fastening it to something, setting up lighting for it, etc. ya know, MINOR changes and calling it art. im not a big fan. its lazy and unoriginal in my blunt opinion. it doesnt create new ideas and thoughts in my brain unless i BS them. like if i see an apple on a pedestal, im taking it at face value, because its simply an apple on a pedestal. it being placed on something doesnt make it any less or more to me. its just an apple. and according to your definition, it would not be art since it does not cause or create new ideas or conversation to flow. it furthers nothing.
unfortunately, in the art community, its hard to have this debate because the widely used definition is the "everything is art" one and some people cannot take criticism to save their life. if you tell suzy sue that her michael jackson x barack obama fanart is not visually compelling and offer her advice, she might cancel you on twitter. we all need to stop being wusses and also stop being rude in the art world. its important to give your fellow artists helpful and meaningful critique and feedback without being harsh or condescending. and it is of equal importance to learn to accept that feedback and use it to better yourself as an artist.
i think another big thing for me and whether something is actually art is the design itself. does it have an interesting composition? does it use an impactful color scheme? does it have a focal point? etc, etc. if these points can be argued for a piece, im more willing to call it art.
realism is also a point of contention because some will ask "whats the point if it just looks like a photo?" the skill, the effort, the time. the unique touch of human hands that gives it a slight charm even in the most hyper realistic pieces. that is the point.
have another piece as a treat. a drawing i did from life for class last semester, its a plant. about as opposite as you can get from the other piece i shared:
https://imgur.com/a/hkcqYKK
-🦌
Light:
Ooh, that's interesting. Why the choice of deer, though, so specifically? Is it for some reason, or just an instinctive decision?
And I agree with your point on what you've referred to as "ready-made". I guess, for art to be meaningful, it has to mean something in the first place, and an apple sure as hell doesn't mean anything to people. Honestly, it seems like lazy artwork to me, even though I'm not an artist. But I'd like to ask you: what exactly would you define as 'ready-made'? Would that mean, then, that photographers' work are technically also 'ready-made', as all they're doing is taking picture of something preexisting and hence not creating, in that sense? What's the boundaries between something that's art, and something that's 'ready-made'? Is it something that you can define at all?
There's this branch of art called 'Dadaism', and there are some works inside that may be considered 'ready-made' in a way. For example, Marcel Duchamp's Fountain and Bicycle Wheel are famous examples of that art movement. And Dadaism was actually made up of artists who wanted to use this nonsensical, crazy form of art to express horror and disgust of the bloodshed that occurred during World War 1. It was commonly known as the 'anti-art' movement, and its main purpose was to create art that would confuse, shock or even aggravate the public.
This ties in to what you'll see Ryuzaki discuss below. Perhaps the occurrences of this 'ready-made' art isn't really the art itself, but it's the thoughts and emotions the artist wanted to express when making the art. And, if this 'ready-made' art exists because of a true effect the artist intended to create on the general public, then it's arguable that it could be considered as art, because isn't art used to express your feelings in the first place? Even though I still don't really consider 'ready-made' pieces as art...it's still interesting food for thought.
And your piece is wonderfully drawn. I love how you rendered the leaves; it looks really beautiful. Kind of reminds me of Chinese bamboo paintings...I'd love to see more of your work, if you'd like to share!
Lastly, thanks for your ask. I love having these kinds of discussions, even though I unfortunately took a long time to get back to you..
L:
wow.. the plant piece is beautiful.. all of the strokes come out so nicely and eloquent. it really makes me want to see this deer self portrait now. that sounds even more intriguing. no pressure though, of course. i just think it's a really fascinating idea.
and as much as i despise "ready-made" pieces too, i honestly have a slight respect for them. i would still consider them art, because i do think it evokes a conversation, but specifically the kind of conversation that makes you question it's existence, if that makes sense.
for example, that duct-taped banana i mentioned in the last ask, that's actually what made me question the whole idea of art in the first place. if something so insignificant can be considered so valuable to people, then who am i to tell them that it's not really art? maybe it is. or maybe the questioning of what it is was the whole point. maybe, the conversation it was actually sparking was more-so like.. a rebellion. a taunt. almost as if it were saying: "you want art? i'll give you art. and you'll be forced to take it." if i remember correctly, there was actually another artist who did that exact thing. his name was richard mutt and he submitted a urinal with a signature of his name as an art piece. it was stupid, and absurd, and that was the point. he submitted it to prove that if he signed his name on it and paid the application fee, the group he submitted it to would've accepted it no matter how thoughtless. he made an art piece that was meant to depict what stupid art looks like, and it worked. so as much as i despise the pieces, i do still think they're art, at least to an extent.
it's things that are made with the intent of gaining either popularity, money, or whatever else there is that i don't consider art. i'd go into more detail about it, but there's already a video out there that depicts it really well, so i'll just link it here. it's by cj the x and he's known for being very chaotic, so it might be a difficult to listen to at first, but i personally really like it. their points always wrap together really nicely as the video continues and the humor is my style, so i swear it's worth a watch, hah.
anyways. i'll stop myself there so i don't annoy you too much, but i do also agree with your points on the design, process, and overall thought that gets put into art pieces. i really like this discussion overall, actually. i apologize if i sounded rude at all, i have no intention to. i enjoy being able to converse about these topics, haha. so thank you for letting me, truly.

Self-portrait (is it hyphenated ?)
So this started out as an exercise where I was drawing what I felt I looked like and how I perceive myself and then I realized I was being way too harsh on myself because what I was actually drawing was my insecurities
I was seeing my insecurities physically manifested on a realistic drawing of myself and seeing them I realized I didn’t actually look like that and that I needed to be more honest with myself
And the more I corrected the image the more the drawing looked like my real self until the drawing looked more like me and in turn I started feeling better about myself because I realized I didn’t actually look the way I see myself in the mirror , I didn’t actually reflect the insecurities I was projecting onto my image and I was actually not being kind to myself.
But now seeing the drawing as he is now he looks exactly like me. (and yes I put a mask on him but there’s a version w/o it haha )
I just have to be more kind to myself and realize I’m not the insecurities I feel but I am the version of myself that deserves the kindness I give to others.
It was just so interesting and profound that I draw attractive characters and when it came time to drawing myself I was so harsh only to realize it still looked nothing like me and only how I felt I looked, all my “flaws” and then I started to love my image and started to put the happy eyes full of light and laughs and my hair which is longer darker and less fluffy , my skin which while has moles or different pigmented areas are ts as visible as I thought or my smile lines or “wrinkles” or my dark circles or hooded eyes , I’m not the version I saw myself as , I was actually closer to the “idealized” version of myself the ones I draw in my comics and Fanart.
I had to learn the hard way and maybe that’s a good thing but I learned that I am not my flaws and now I know that maybe everyone feels that to an extent and that maybe everyone should try it and see that they too are not their flaws or their insecurities.
Learning to be kinder to myself and learning to love my reflection have been hard but in doing this I think I gained a little more confidence and content ness with myself and I just wanted to share that in hopes someone else could maybe feel better about themselves. ✨🤍✨
Love yourself and be kind to you and your reflection. ✨🤍✨🪞✨🪞✨🪞✨🤍✨

games i played update for pretty much the entire week
i've got a bunch of screenshots piled up that i was too tired to post wen they were fresh
might not add a description to all
[major spoilers for chicory and minor spoilers for hollow knight and hades under cut]
(i reached photo limit so ill add reblogs this post for the rest)
(also ill have more minimal image descriptions than i would typically write them due to the sheer amount of pictures)
Ok ill start with chicory i suppose
.
.
But im not joking. if you think there's the slightest chance you'll play chicory or if you're already playing chicory and havent completed the main quest already, DO IT. Dont spoil the experience for yourself. I have screenshots from some boss battles and some other main quest stuff here. Please, for your own sake, dont continue if you plan on playing chicory.
.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Fuck I... ngl i really felt Chicory all throughout the game. the exorbitant expectations that shes putting herself to because of her master.. the astronomical amounts of self-doubt that came with it.. the massive impostor syndrome.. And now that i mentioned impostor syndrome i might aswell mention the amount of relatability i felt with the playable character (In my savefile she's named Cupcake). The enthusiasm that changes for self-doubt the moment responsibility shows up. The inner voices that keep telling her that she doesnt deserve the brush. that she got it by sheer luck. that she's a terrible artist and that everyone is just lying to her.. i felt all of that
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ These things actually.. well they got to me a lot more than i previously expected. especially the fanart one. i had completely forgotten that that was the first thing i drew there despite the fact that Clementine put it in our parent's house but.. i realyl did not expect that. It was so incredibly sweet
Tumblr media
^ I'm so happy for you, Thyme <22222
Tumblr media
^ there's a metaphor to be discussed there but im not up for that right now
Tumblr media
^ i love your enthusiasm dad (yes i did use the telephone cabin a couple of times. if you have anything against that im not gonna listen to your inflated "gamer" ego. let people have fun. for some of them that means using tips or playing with assist mode or god mode)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Fuck this hurt. this hurt oh my
Tumblr media
^ this is the drawing that i made to be the portrait in the wielder tower. my mistake with essentially everything i drew in this game was that i treated it as a normal drawing instead of pixel art)
Tumblr media
^ KITTIES (i still need to save like 5 more i think)
Tumblr media
^ this genuinely made me tear up a little
Tumblr media
^ and completion percent (i want to eventually fill in the entire map but for now im taking a break from chicory)
.
.
.
Okay onto Hollow Knight now
have in mind that those are screenshots taken in different days. several times i took screenshots in the inventory to show progress at the time
also have in mind that this was me getting all my progression back to and eventually further than the 102% that i had before i lost my saves
Tumblr media
^ Maybe Sly wasnt corrupted by the Radiance, but capitalism still mostly got him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ progress on january 7th
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ there i think i wanted to show that i managed to get here without wings (for those who dont know/remember, that means 2 or 3 enemy pogos)
Tumblr media
^ this is my favourite sofftware bug in the entire game (now that i think about it im not sure whether it's still in the game or patched and reintroduced by the QoL mod)
Tumblr media
^ ok it doesnt really matter but i love how broken cdash crystal generation is whenever youre not on a stable flat floor/wall
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ you fucking what you greedy bitch. also yeah i beat the shit out of her and then made her come with me to listen to Marissa

Yoosung/GN!Reader — Muse
AHHHH WHY ARE ALL THE FANDOMS I GET INTO DEAD OR DYING??? Anyway here’s some Yoosung fluff with an artist reader who made a work of art with him as the subject. Begins with headcanons, ends with a lil oneshot. Enjoy!!!
- Yoosung would absolutely go nuts if you were to paint or draw or even just sketch him! As soon as he saw the image you sent of it through the chat room he nearly let out a yelp of joy.
- He’s internally freaking out, he can’t figure out what to tell you that would perfectly encompass how he feels. Just anything he types he’ll have to backtrack because no, it’s not good enough!
- Because of how long he takes though, you might get worried that he didn’t like it and is trying to find a way to let you down easy. In regular Yoosung fashion, he would never just outright say he hated it.
- But after a while, he still can’t think of anything to say, so he sends a picture instead — in it, he’s smiling like a goof, eyes turned to crescents and partially filled with tears. He’s using a hand to hold half of his face in astonishment (and definitely not to cover at least some of the blush he’s sporting). As he’s said before, no one’s ever loved him romantically before, let alone decided to use their talents to create art with him as the subject.
- Along with the picture he sends a little message that reads “I...I’m speechless...! In a good way of course! It looks too good for me to say with words!”
- He feels super sad that he can’t see the painting in person yet and probably calls you about it, asking you to send him more pictures of it until he can get his hands on it.
- He’d just be so grateful and want you to know that, the sweet baby <3
- Count on him asking for a fanart of his favorite LOLOL characters or his avatar after he discovers the true extent to your talent. “Only if you want to of course!”
. . .
Grand doors swung open, giving way to the chilled air outside. The sun was lower in the sky than it had been when the party first began, now brushing against the trees that dotted the skyline. Soft, golden light shone in your face, leaving you to blink away the slight discomfort it caused and keep your gaze angled to the pavement. You almost couldn’t believe you had been there for so long, still filled with energy and partying with your previously strictly virtual friends as all the guests you had managed to rope in left one by one.
By now, there were only a few cars in the lot, all of them belonging to you and your fellow RFA members. You tugged a soft hand along with you as you made your way down the walkway of the party hall and to your car.
A soft chuckle caused you to look behind you, acknowledging the person you could officially call your boyfriend as he asked you, “(Name), where are we going? The other members will worry, y’know.”
“Aw, but you want your present, don’t you?” You responded, a smirk playing on your lips as you turned back around. You reached into your pocket and pulled out your car keys, clicking the button that made your lights blink and the passenger’s side door unlock.
“Present? You didn’t have to— oh! The portrait!” Though you couldn’t see him, you could practically hear the bright smile accompanying his words. You knew he wouldn’t forget. He had been asking when he could finally get his pretty hands on your artwork since you sent him a picture over chat. He didn’t include that part about his hands being pretty, but you thought it was necessary.
You popped open the car door, hiding the contents from his single-eyed gaze with your back. “Now, I made sure it didn’t get too roughed up on the drive here, hence the wrapping—“ a canvas wrapped in a sheet was presented to Yoosung. He brought his hands together in anticipation. “—plus this makes for a cool reveal, don’t you think?”
“Yes! I wanna see it!”
“Okay, okay! Ready?” You inquired teasingly, merely fingering the drapes covering the canvas and pulling it down agonizingly slow.
Yoosung pouted childishly and reached forward with too much speed for you to stop him, tearing the sheet from your work.
You stomped your foot jokingly. “You’re no fun, Yoo.” Your smile faded when he didn’t respond. “Yoosung?”
You inspected his expression for any sign of anger, despair, annoyance — really anything that would have pointed to him being unhappy with your work in any way. But what you were met with was more confusing than anything. His expression was quite unreadable, and with one eye being covered by ivory bandages it was even more difficult to get a read on what he was currently feeling.
But the eye that you could see was transfixed on your work. His mouth opened and closed, like he was trying to say something but couldn’t for an unknown reason. Perhaps it was the same reaction that he displayed over text when you showed him for the first time — just speechlessness. You hoped to the gods that was the case. You didn’t know what you would do if he suddenly hated it.
“Honey, what’s wrong?” The nickname seemed to snap him from his stupor. Up until now it had mainly been him that used nicknames like that.
“Oh! It’s nothing it’s...wow....I mean no one’s ever really done this for me before!” Yoosung reached out to brush his fingers against the canvas, feeling each individual stroke of your brush, each bump and dent in the paint in what you swore was disbelief.
“I’m sure Rika’s done something similar.” You shrugged.
The blonde college student smiled sadly. He nodded. “Rika has done a lot for me, that’s true. But this...it’s so you! It’s so unique in a way that can only be you and I don’t want you to ever think that isn’t good enough. Okay?” His expression had grown progressively more serious, more determined to convince you of the value of your efforts. You felt the slight burn of tears meeting your eyelids, pushing them back down with a couple of blinks.
“Okay...I won’t. I promise,” You assured. You looked down at your hands, remembering you still held the portrait. You thrusted it towards him. “Here, it’s yours anyway.”
“Wh...mine? (Name), you know I love it but I couldn’t...! You worked too hard on it for me to just take it!”
“Yoosung, don’t do that self deprecation thing, ‘kay? I made this for you. I worked hard on it because I wanted to give you something I’m proud of.” You paused, waiting for any sort of reaction. All you got was Yoosung’s hands drawing themselves closer to his chest, twitching with uncertainty. So, you pushed your bottom lip out and pouted with obvious exaggeration. “Please? If you don’t I’ll be sad...”
Your boyfriend rolled his eyes playfully, finally reaching out and wrapping his fingers around the canvas and lifting it out of your grasp. He smiled down at the image of himself. It looked just like him, but your unique style influenced the way you painted his features in the best possible way. He could tell exactly which photo you used as a reference. He was looking straight at the camera, or viewer in this case, with a side-eyed gaze. In the left corner was the bouquet of red roses he had bought specifically for that picture. Specifically to ask you to be his.
“Why are you so mesmerized?” You asked, chuckling at how Yoosung stared at the painting in awe. “You’ve seen it before.”
“Yeah but this is different! Seeing it in person is so much better!” He defended quickly.
“I got it, it’s okay, sweetheart.” You shut and locked your car door, arm finding its way around Yoosung’s back as your hand found purchase on his waist. You pressed a delicate kiss onto his temple. “I’m really glad you like it.”
“Of course I did! Oh! And I bet the other members will too! Can I show them?”
A laugh broke through your lips. “Obviously. But if any of them ask for a portrait too they have to pay me first.”
“Oooh so I get special privileges?”
“The boyfriend of the artist always gets special privileges. It helps that you’re too damn beautiful not to paint. You’re like my muse.”
You couldn’t believe you hadn’t got to see Yoosung flustered in person before now. And it was glorious, if you did say so yourself. The classic tinge of pink dusted his squeezable cheeks and ears and he let out a small whine of indignation.
“If you keep saying things like that I’ll combust from embarrassment!”
“Better make sure I say more things like that, then.”
Yoosung whacked you with the canvas.

Summary: You buy some art supplies for the Child to play and Din is worried about his precious ship getting scribbled all over.
a/n: based on this fanart that warmed my heart and it made me tear up. I’m so soft, very soft.
Warnings: very soft content, din takes his helmet off in this one but i guess foundlings and spouses are clear to see his face, right? mentions of sex
Word count: 2.3k

part ii || masterlist
redamancy (n); the act of loving one who loves you, a love returned in full
You know you shouldn’t. You know Din is gonna get pissed at you. You know it’s not a good idea. But, as you slip the credits to the seller on the counter, there’s a content smile on your face. Thinking about the green little bean’s face when he gets his present, you grab what you just bought and rush back to the ship quickly.
Din had gone on a supply run in one of the most beautiful planets you’ve ever seen. The Ulara planet, known by its stunning oceans, brings a lot of artists around this time of the cycle. Naturally, a lot of merchants sell art supplies at the markets and you just couldn’t resist. Your inner mother self spoke louder and before you could think twice, you were buying some art supplies for the Child.
You meet the Mandalorian on the way to the ship, the hoovering cradle just behind him. Almost smiling to yourself, you try to control your breathing as if you were a kid that did a bad thing, afraid of being caught in the act.
“What did you get?” He asks, tilting his helmet towards you.
Holding the bag close to your chest, afraid he’s going to take it, you shrug.
“Just some stuff,” you answer, nonchalantly.
You’re not sure if he’s going to approve your recent purchase, so you don’t tell him. Maybe he won’t, but who cares? Can’t you spoil your adoptive child by giving him some toys to play?
Din says nothing as he opens the hatch door, allowing the three of you to enter the Razor Crest. You wait for him to climb the ladder to the cockpit before hiding the supplies in the bunk. You don’t want to give the little one the present yet, you want to be sure you’re not needed in the cockpit before.
“Hey, little bean,” You call him by the sweet nickname you’d given to him as you pick him up, smiling. “Did you have a fun time with your dad today?”
He coos and smiles at you, trying his best to answer you. Letting out a chuckle, you climb the ladder and enters the cockpit as Din starts up the ship.
“Buckle up,” he says, softly. You almost roll your eyes as you sit on the copilot’s seat. All those years together and he still tells you to fasten your seatbelt before he takes off. Every time.
Placing the kid on the cradle on the other copilot’s seat you, you do buckle up, smiling softly. Memories of when he had committed the sin, when he had taken the asset back invade your mind as you watch him pilot the Razor Crest silently.
He was ready to take off then, you eagerly sat on the very same chair you are sitting now, your mind going crazy and your heart clenching at the thought of the kid being taken away. Ever since Din came back to the ship, mud covered, back in Arvala-7, you knew something was up. You knew he had imprinted on the kid somehow. And it took you a hot minute to accept his decision to go back for him.
“Wait for me here,” He had mumbled to you as he walked out of the Crest. You were confused at first, but it took a millisecond for the penny to drop.
“Din, maybe you should think about this better.” You had tried to reason, but he had made up his mind. He stopped his tracks and looked back at you; you knew he was giving one of his looks, even behind the helmet.
“Do you trust me?” He had asked in a soft voice.
You parted your lips with your tongue, sighing. “Yes, but your reputation–”
“I don’t give a damn about my reputation.” He interrupted you. “All I care about now is that child. I have to keep him safe, I don’t know–”
His voice cracked and your heart dropped. Reaching for his gloved hand, you took it and gave it a squeeze. Taking a deep breath, you had touched your forehead with his helmet and closed your eyes. You knew the consequences of that decision, yet you had nodded anyway, giving him your approval. Not that he needed it, but making sure you were okay with his decisions was always his things. Because it always involved you and him. Together, as it has always been.
When he had come back with the kid, that night, the sight of relief that escaped your lungs surprised you. Now, you’re glad he decided to adopt the Child, cause your days are brighter and happier. Not that you weren’t before with Din. Obviously, you lived a happy life with him before the little green bean entered your life, but it got even better when he did.
“Did you find the scarf you were looking for?” Din’s voice brings you back to the present, referring to the scarf you wanted to buy for yourself. You had completely forgotten about it as soon as you saw the merchants with the art supplies.
“No, I didn’t,” You reply, shaking your head.
“Maybe in the next planet.” You can see him shrug through the poor light of the chamber.
Watching him handle the control panel, pushing buttons and pulling handles that make the ship jump to hyperspace, makes you smile. However, you’re too excited to show the kid what you got him, so you quickly unbuckle yourself and take the little one into your arms.
“I’m going to feed him,” you say over your shoulders, already leaving the cockpit.
Back at the hull, you place him on the cot of the ship and smiles at him.
“I got you something,” You tell him smiling. “But you have to keep it a secret for now, okay?”
The Child coos and smiles at you as you walk back to the bunk and presses the button to open the hatch. Taking the cloth bag from it, you pour all the contents on the cot before him. You bought crayons, chalks, coloring pencils and even some finger paint, along with some sheets of paper.
“You can draw with these,” you explain to him in a soft voice. Taking a yellow crayon you draw a smiling sun, showing him how to do it. He watches you, intensely paying attention to the movements of your hands. “See?”
You hand him the crayon and he takes it, curiously studying the object in his tiny hand. Your heart warms at the sight of him trying to replicate your smiling sun on the paper. Smiling, you grab one of the pots of paint and show it to him.
“Maybe we can get to try these later,” You say, smiling.
“Try what?” Din’s voice makes you jump on the spot and turn around quickly to face him. He’s standing before you, leaning on the ladder with crossed arms. “What’s all this?”
Swallowing, you smile at him, shrugging one shoulder. “Art supplies?”
Din tilts his helmet and you hear him sigh. You smile at him, taking a step further to approach him.
“I just saw these and I immediately thought of him,” You tell him, trying to explain. He knows you can barely contain the happiness in your voice. “I had to buy it, but I used my own money, don’t worry–”
He interrupts you by calling your name.
“It’s okay,” he assured you, running his hands on your arms. “I just worry he’s gonna paint the whole ship with these.”
A laugh escaped your lips as you look back to the kid. He discovered the other colored crayons and it’s drawing a beautiful piece of art containing several scribbles in different colors. Your smiling sun is nowhere to be seen, now covered by the several colors.
“Maybe we need a little redecorating,” You say, looking back at Din.
“Your dad’s gonna kill me.” You laugh as you watch the scene.
A few days later after you bought the art supplies, you find the Child using the finger paints to decorate the inside walls on the ship. You left him for one second to go to the refresher.
Walking towards him, you sit on the floor beside him, and dip your finger on the green paint and draw on the sheet of paper in front of you.
“Look, it’s you.” You show him a badly drawn portrait of him and he just giggles. His tiny hand, wet with paint, reaches for you as you take him in your lap.
The Child points to a drawing he did on the wall and, as you follow his finger, your heart warms at the sight. Two human figures hold hands with a green, smaller figure. One of the human figures has a comically large drawn helmet on and you want to laugh, but you hold back. You gasp softly and look back at him, smiling from ear to ear.
“Is that us?!” You exclaim, and he shrieks laughs. “You’re such an artist! How much do you want for it?” You only get coos from him. “Deal, a can of bone broth it is.” You take his tiny hand and shake it, simulating a handshake.
Behind you, you hear a soft chuckle that makes you turn around and look at the man who, again, was watching you both silently. You frown, but smiles at him nodding towards the wall.
“Come look at what your son’s done,” You say, watching as Din makes his way to you. He kneels to the floor and looks over the drawing on the wall. “That’s us.”
He doesn’t move for a second and you start to wonder if he’s getting mad because of the paint on the wall. But he just nods and says, with a cracked voice,
“That’s sweet.”
Biting back a smile, your heart swells at the thought of him getting teared up over the small family portrait. The baby giggles at him and stretches his little arms towards his father, who takes him almost immediately. Din holds him close to his face.
“You’re quite the painter, aren’t you?” He says in a very, very soft voice that makes your heart skip a beat.
You and Din had talked about having kids in a moment of your relationship. Once. You both had come to the conclusion that bounty hunting was a dangerous job and that a child in the middle of it would just complicate things. So you pushed these plans for another future, if he, one day, decided to settle down in a nice planet, maybe you could have a kid or two. Now, with the little one, it’s hard, you have admit. But it’s good. It fulfils your heart.
You’re not gonna lie to yourself and pretend you don’t think about having your own children with him, after watching how he takes care of the Child. But you never voice these thoughts, afraid he would push them aside.
“Oh, Maker,” You mumble as the kid touches Din’s helmet, smearing it with paint. You take him from his dad and stand up. “I think it’s time for a clean up, don’t you?” The kid pouts and his ear flop down, indicating he doesn’t like the idea of going to bed yet. “Aw, don’t be sad, we can always continue painting tomorrow.”
Din watches you as you make your way to the refresher, still talking to the kid. He watches you as you bathe him, trying to cheer him up, telling stories and humming an ancient lullaby at him. He sighs, feeling his heart swelling on his chest. If he was lucky to have you before he found the kid, now he’s the luckiest Mandalorian in the Galaxy.
After you bathe the kid and tuck him in, watching as he falls asleep immediately, you go back to the refresher to take a shower yourself. Din cleans his helmet and leans on the doorframe, watching you as you leave the small shower cabin.
“Hi, handsome,” You say, as you dry your hair with a towel, smiling at his bare face. “Come here often?”
Din rolls his eyes and chuckles. You dry your body in front of him, nothing new. But the way he’s watching you makes you wonder.
“Everything okay?” You ask, wrapping yourself with the towel.
He hesitates before speaking.
“I know we had this conversation already,” He starts, slowly. “But… How you’d you feel about having another baby?”
You look into his eyes, searching for any hint of a joke in them. Your heart beats faster and you part your lips with your tongue, choosing your words carefully.
“Like, you and me?” Your voice is small, almost a whisper.
“Yes,” He answers, patiently.
“In the conventional way?”
Din smiles and lets out a laugh. “Yes, in the conventional way.”
Trying to hold back your excitement, you bite your lower lip hard, holding back a smile.
“Okay,” You try to play it cool, but he knows you. He knows you want to jump up and down around the ship, yell in excitement.
“Okay?” He asks, leaning forward to kiss you.
“Yeah,” You mumble into his mouth as you kiss him back, softly and slowly. He walks in the refresher, backing you up inside and closing the door behind him. It gets cramped pretty easily, but you don’t care. Your arms lace around his neck, making the towel fall on the floor and leaving you completely naked. Your body presses against his, the cold beskar of his armor sending goosebumps to your skin. “You wanna try it now?”
He chuckles, his hands resting on your sides. He pulls away and looks into your eyes.
“I love you,” He tells you softly.
“I love you too,” You whisper, your eyes tearing up.
As you kiss him again, you feel complete. You think you don’t deserve this man, you don’t deserve his protection and kindness. But every time, he proves you wrong.

Hi, I’m very sorry if this comes off as rude or demanding but I was wondering if maybe in the future you’d consider painting the Illyrians closer to the shades you color Lucien and Vassa. They’re all described to be the same shade, golden brown, but I’ve noticed in some of your art the Illyrians get colored lighter and sometimes leaning more towards racially ambiguous. Again, I’m sorry if this comes off rude at all but it seems like you’re a kind person and an artist who cares about accurate depictions of characters and this was just something I’ve taken note of.
Hi! this is not rude at all, this is going to be a long answer so brace yourself <3 , I'll try to break my explanations in a few parts: 1 - I'm a self taught artist that works in watercolors, when I use cheaper paper (and paints) it's hard for me with my actual skill level to get smooth darker tones without layers (I can't layer a lot with some papers and that's a stone in my shoe still), add to that that watercolors tend to dry lighter + my scanner tends to wash out the colors and that's why on some pieces the batboys and even Lucien are lighter skin tonned (and that's on my materials + my current skill level). As for 2 - I personally see the Batboys and the illyrians being latinos and really racially ambiguous, my main references for them are Maluma, Zayn and a younger Jason Momoa (I'm brazilian so this is my bqackground literally showing in my art), Lucien I see as a South Asian man and I try to reference a darker shade of their skin coloring. 3 - I'm totally up to drawing the BatBoys as other etnicities, when I'm doing personal work like most of the fanart I post I tend to depict my ~personal~ vision for them (the above references) and it's automatic drawing them as such, like I know how I'm supposed to draw and what colors to use do portrait my vision of them, when doing comissioned work all of that is put aside and I'll work exclusively with references given to me by the client. AAAAAND the last one I swear (this is the lawyer in me trying to organize my thoughts), Rhys is described being lighter, pale if I do recall this right in the first book, due to the lack of sun, and theeeen he tans (that's why me, being a latina, immediately thought on ooooh he's maybe got some latin roots), whilst Lucien and Vassa are described directly being golden colored (what made me picture him as always being darker than Rhys). You were not rude at all and I hope I explained this alright, have an amazing week <3

For any who have trouble reading my garbage handwriting:
1.) Give me an introduction of yourself! Hi. I’m Ren. I draw stuff poorly and make music sometimes.
2.) I see... Do you have an avatar of yourself? For the love all that is holy, PLEASE turn on your tank stance... I’m dying squirtle
3.) Just for fun, try drawing the same picture with your opposite hand! Noooooo
4.) And now, with your foot! The most accurate self-portrait I’ve ever made. Noooooooo...
5.) How nice! So you like to draw? What do you enjoy drawing most? Interesting character. Sometimes fanart. I also like drawing my friends’ characters. Hythlodaeus: Let’s draw Emet-Selch!
6.) Ooh... I see! What inspired you to draw first? Loneliness, probably. I didn’t have many friends and I had to barter away my toys to get most of the neighbourhood kids to play with me. But they didn’t want my pen and paper, so I used those myself.
7.) What do you have the most difficulties drawing? (Ex.: hands, humans, colouring...)? Colouring. By far, my biggest weakness.
8.) I drew the artbooks stacked on my desk.
11.) Any last comments you want to say before this meme ends? If you’ve ever found yourself wondering who the target demographic is for oatmeal raisin cookies, you’re looking at it.
Tagging: @nyyght and anyone else who wants to do this. I don’t really know a lot of people. Sorry.

hi hope ur well! i was j wondering what ur tags meant? 'decay as a commodity' and so on. they all sound very poetic
hello angel, this was sweet of you (ive actually been hoping sum1 would ask lol),, so here we goooo ( and im sorry if i sound overly eager ,, im also doing this for me im not insane dont worry really babe think nothing of it)
decay as a commodity : okay so i envisioned this as a way to just summarize modern living? i think of a whole blueish neon color scheme with this one. my line of thinking was,, with the world slowly rotting away and living becoming so expensive and exhausting, whats the one commodity we all share? wouldn't it be decay? aren't we all slowly fading together etc etc. i use this for images with cooler muted tones and anything with a futuristic vibe,, along with some grimey, monochrome photography
the setting dawn: this is the polar opposite of decay, i think of it as "hope beyond hope" a la Prior Walter's line in Angels in America. i know "the setting sun " might sound more natural but i think of it as,, dawn , when the sun breaks through - in this short period the world starts to wake. qs the dawn sets the day kicks in, with all its routine misery. Dawn i think, is the only time the sun is kind to you, because its still hidden away at least slightly. But the day truly starts and itbeats down on you. And yet we continue to live, past the boredom and the pain, we live past hope, past the quiet comfort of dawn. I use this for pictures with earthy tones and things on the more uplifting side
bodies shifting in narrow spaces: this has some overlap with the decay tag, im not as organized as i need 2 be. i use this for figures & portraits ill want to draw or just really any photography i like that features a human presence. think of it as people so dependent on an outside gaze they constantly try to reinvent themselves, or just, everyday people, getting less and less time to live, having to work and forcing themselves into relationships with any real connection
original sin and other contingencies: im trying to fit this in for more risque photography and maybe things on the more gory side. how do i explain this.. okay so... when there's nothing left to do you'll always have sin to turn to just yo keep yourself occupied, along with other methods/contingencies u get the jist
linen that lingers: my fashion tag nothing more 2 it
the canvas as testimony: for art that is made for the gallery or art that is held in higher regard i guess, more high culture. it includes painting, sculptures, along with architecture,, but maybe i should make an architecture tag. i think of the things here as more personal efforts
motion on a still surface: for art that is energetic and really pops off the page. includes comics, manga, fanart, animation. stuff here may be more low culture but really its not. i just differentiate these art tags as ,,one is stuck to the canvas whatever that canvas may be, while the other leaps off the page
word on a wing let me soar: books, poetry, articles, journals , all words that i adore
a conversation with the self: i wanted this to be for things that are very personal to me but i just use my other tags
angels in descent: my little funny haha tag for yknow ,,, funny haha. yknow the "devil's rejects" the movie? like its a way of saying people so horrible no even the devil would take them. okay so i thought " god's rejects " but that's lame. so i landed on this, like idk...imagine angels falling from grace
arcade shuffle: for my little viddy games lol. sorry for being a #gamergirl but yes it happens sadly ,,moving on
jet jump jive: for songs
at the pictures: for movies,, like imagine im going "cant talk im at the pictures wheee ^_^"
there is such a great distance between now and later: to track my art and writing progress but i barely use it cause it barely draw or write these days i blame the wave of despair that washeth over me
proof of concept: photos i took but there's like almost nothing here
misc that are just funny 2 me like i do it 4 a little chuckle i deserve it:
screw it posting hole - for hole the band
bowies in spaaace - for bowie, after the flight of the concords song cmon its a little funny at least cmon now
twink speaks- for twin peaks lol
and whewwww thats it,, sorry i got carried away im normal i swear but this was so much fun angel thank u 4 dropping by ,, nd ohh wait i have a new tag for asks yipee
