What type of music do SATRN make? Like if you could give like examples (songs or bands that are similar) that would be really cool and awesome
Hii!!! I'll link this post here, where i recieved the first part of this question! As for specific hmm.....
Artist wise, I think they try out anything from stuff like L7 to AJJ.
Specific songs i can see them performing list
-Pretend That We're Dead- L7
-Its Catching Up- Nomeansno
-Bad Bad Things- AJJ -this one Nao would sing in for sure
-They'd try something like Date Rape by Sublime or The Distance by Cake at least a couple times
-The Lovecats- The Cure
-Jesus Of Suburbia- Green Day
All honesty, they're albums and performances would depend on the energy and health of the group when they perform. Their stuff wouldnt be too yelly (like, say, shitlist by L7), Sou prefers to sing a bit more softly than that. I think Nao is going to be backup vocals for the group when they need it. I find that even with real bands, categorizing them into a genre is super hard almost all of he time, so with a band that i made its even harder. These guys just play whats fun, I dont think I wanna restrict them from doing that with a genre.

Do you ever think about how slept on the Wild West rangers are? Like that whole thing is so batshit crazy and hardly anyone ever mentions it. It’s one of the only times we really get to see how capable Kim is as a ranger and a leader! She leads a team of capable but normal citizens and they don’t die! You’re my go to person for this sort of thing and I’ve thought of this for years but haven’t been able to come up with a explanation so I am gonna ask you! why did the WR have the added cowboy accessories IN universe explanation. Can you think of one??
WILD WEST RANGERS?
i think WWR gets kind of written off as typical MMPR cheese due to how goofy it is (the silly fake accents, the infamous “too much pink energy is dangerous” line, the cowboy outfits) so people miss the genuinely interesting character bits and implications it delivers (which, imo, can be said for a lot of MMPR in general). Kim gets knocked back in time and after a brief period of unsettlement (which is entirely justified and realistic), adapts to the situation and makes her own ranger team, saving not just the world, but the entire TIMELINE. “blah blah Jen is so cool because she’s a pink who led her team across time” KIM DID IT FIRST, SHE IS THE BLUEPRINT (plus the character development shown when she relates to the ancestors being unsure of whether they could be rangers.......it’s genuinely a v good character piece for her! not to mention AJJ v obviously playing up how she likes to see Tommy in cowboy gear. horny on main rights. good for her)
as for why they look different.......mmm. alternate forms of powers are obv very common now, particularly in the comics, and we only rarely get an explanation for them (outside of obvious ones like fusion powers (Drakkon) and the split powers (the sentries/green MMPRs/All-New MMPRs). Ranger Slayer is probably the most obvious example, but the 1969 MMPRs also had subtle differences in how they look compared to the present-day MMPRs.
so going along with that, my guess would be the difference comes from the morphers - that the way they're built influences and changes the form the coins create. so the modern MMPRs look different than the 1969 MMPRs because Alpha and Zordon worked with and perfected the morphers over the years. so the same thing could apply to the WWRs - that's just the level of development the morphers were at in 1880. as for why that level of development would lead to cowboy forms specifically........Alpha just keeps up with the trends of the day. it’s already canon that he uses the Viewing Globe as his personal TV whenever he’s bored
#kim: if i was stuck in an unknown environment and had to lead a team i've only known for five minutes i would simply not lead them#to their deaths. rip to the 1969 rangers but i'm different#transmission#anonymous

1, 4, 29 for the ask meme!
first off, sorry this took me so long oh my god!!! i REALLY love answerjng these questions but im also often too tired to do so, so that's why they take a while to be answered. second off FUCK this is long im so sorry holy Shit, bc of that im putting it under a read more!
1: If someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to? don't need to read anything honestly because i hardly read. maybe read a vintage dinosaur book? like, from the 60's or 70's during the dinosaur renaissance. they may not longer be accurate, but all illustrations and descriptions of them are made with a certain sense of awe and wonder that ive yet to see recreated in the modern day. i feel like it'd help you understand why i find them so amazing and beautiful and etc
idk what you'd have to watch?? uhhh,, i honestly need to think about this for a while because i have a lot of favorite movies id reccomend yall watch but my memory is SHIT so i can't think of them right now....BUT god i love horror movies so there's at least some kind of answer? i get bored really easily and i love getting scared cause it makes me feel Something
LISTEN.....hmmm..... just listen to the music id listen to, i guess? but specifically AJJ, especially their later stuff like christmas island, back in the jazz coffin and the bible 2. those things really give me a kind of melancholy that few pieces of music have given me and i fucking Love the kind of like...slower, calmer (compared to their past albums like the knifeman and people who eat people) but still incredibly powerful music with emphasis on like piano and....idk the name of instruments well but i think it's cello that im thinking about, but i really like those aspects Especially...deathlessness, american garbage, angel of death and dead best friend are all good examples these i think. christmas island and the bible 2 mean so much to me and i used to listen to them a LOT when a bitch was really going through it™
4: do you like your name? is there a other name you think would fit better? i don't like my irl name lol, it also means purity which i find ironic as hell. i like lazu and i really identify with it, though as of recent ive felt it's kinda.... childish...i did make it up when i was really young, thinking of a username for wolfhome so i guess that's why? cause i did make it when i was immature. some friends of mine have called me john as a result of an inside joke and im honestly!! becoming really attached to it so i think i could go by that name too!
29: three songs you connect with right now family snapshot by peter gabriel, mother of violence Also by peter gabriel, and mother stands for comfort by kate bush!

what’s up bestie. music asks. answer em. 5, 6, 14, 22, & 29 <3
hi bestie!! sorry for answering this so late my fucking internet went out RIGHT when i was abt to post it 😭
5. name an album you feel is perfect
tbh i dont usually sit down and listen to a full album all at once except for a few times so i dont usually immediately notice any faults but out of the ones ive listened to i cant really find any issues in Kimya Dawson’s “Remember That I Love You” or AJJ’s “Knifeman” and hmm Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains’s side of “Love Songs for the Apocalypse” (ik ik i’m cheating by listing more than one album shhh)
6. from the album you feel is perfect, what three songs would you choose to eliminate if you absolutely had to?
From Remember That I Love You: “France”, “I Miss You”, and “12/26” purely bc i’ve only listened to them like. once. i dont remember anything about them 😔
EDIT 4/1/2023 FUCK PAST ME FRANCE GOES SO FUCKING HARD. SHEER WONDER BABY
From Knifeman: oh god this is hard but “Back Pack”, “Fucc the Devil”, and uhhh “If You Have Love in Your Heart” for the same reasons as above… i simply don’t listen to them as often as other songs on the album 😔 nothing wrong with them i just like other songs more
From Love Songs for the Apocalypse: genuinely i can’t pick i actually like all these songs equally sob (not counting mantit’s side of the album here cos i haven’t listened to it) maybe “Election Song”? since i don’t generally go back to it as much as other songs on the album
14. is there any band/musician who you really strongly dislike? if so, why?
Oh god so many, mostly cos theyre overplayed
ed sheeran bc my mom likes his songs so i get to hear “Shape of You” every car ride ever :( i listen anyway cos it makes her happy but it’s so so painful. idk anything about him as a person but his music gives off very annoying vibes i simply do not care for him
taylor swift for obvious reasons but also because i used to pretend to like her in grade school so my friend would like me (her music wasn’t necessarily terrible i just didnt care LMAO) but now i hate her bc she’s annoying and it’s so so enraging hearing people be like “omg she’s so gay!!” ohhh my god shut up she is the straightest women alive on this earth…
girl in red mostly cos ppl hyped up her music so much but when i actually listened to it, it was really disappointing… go girl give us nothing
(^also the annoying terminally online “do u listen to girl in red = are you a lesbian” simply bc as a lesbian i simply think she’s kinda lame)
more i can’t think of rn i think cos i’m not currently in the hater mindset but also cos for the longest time i never really paid much attention to the musicians behind the music (with some exceptions i still dont know most of the names of the members of my favorite bands lmao)
22. name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
tbh most of the older vocaloid songs :( they remind me of being a child on the internet (the good parts not weird parts which i thankfully mostly avoided) specific examples include “World is Mine” by Supercell, “Electric Angel” by YasuoP, and “Tokyo Teddy Bear” by Neru <—the big one that got me into vocaloid!!
as for specific memories… hmm… i never really related songs to my personal life cos i’d be too busy imagining Epic Warrior Cats/Vocaloid AMVs (childhood thru present day) but ig the closest would be “Becky” by Be Your Own Pet cos it reminds me of my ex friend who i hate and how i stopped talking to her 😁 best decision of my life for real
29. is there any song that you mostly like, but there’s one specific part of it that you don’t like as much? if so, what is it?
can’t think of any rn! but i’ll probably think of smth later and add it here

This is um really random but I saw ur fanmixes and they're really neat?? I was wondering if you had any tips for making a mix for a character bc I want to try and get into doing that sort of thing? Sorry this is really out of left field ^^;;
NO THATS OKAY I LOVE TALKING ABOUT MIXES AND YOU HAVE ACTIVATED MY 100% SPECIAL INTEREST MODE i really love mixes in any case and i have a lot of thoughts
here’s a rundown of a few things i think are important in a mix, and i’ll explain them all below the cut because this is bound to get pretty long:
a theme/genre: it can be any kind of theme you like (ie a pairing, particular aspect/trait of the character, something abstract like corrosion, a particular music genre), but it helps in finding tracks that go together and having good flow to the mix
transition/flow: this is one of the most important things i think! don’t just toss a few tracks together, they need to transition well from one to the next. going from katy perry to ajj doesn’t usually work well, even if both songs work well for the character.
storytelling/track order: related to the transition of tracks, they also need to make sense structurally. say, you have a song about their childhood and one about their love life, it doesnt make much sense to go from their love life to their childhood, so put them in appropriate order.
so to actually start making a mix, i’d say to find a theme or genre first, to work with. that sounds kind of hard, but what works for me is to just collect a bunch of tracks i associate with that character in a youtube playlist, and then see which tracks are strong, if there’s any that work particularly well together, and then just copy those to your draft playlist and find more tracks to build around it.
an example: i know [over 80 tracks i associate with the phantom], but realistically not all those are gonna work together. for [the actual phantom mix] i made, i decided to build around “neil cicierega - wnrdwll”, and specifically searched for [other mashups and other upbeat but distorted sounding tracks] to create the theme of, well, screen burn.
other examples: [my souta mix is based around musicals], which ended up working surprisingly well, and [my manosuke/souta mix is based around dadrock], because, you know, daddy issues, just like me
then there’s the transition and flow! once you’ve got a good feel for what you want, you’re going to have to find songs that actually go well together. that doesn’t just mean in terms of genre, it also means that you make sure you don’t have one really loud song next to a quiet one, (unless you’re doing that intentionally). basically, listen to your songs and decide by ear if it is or isn’t jarring to hear them in that order.
an example: in my phantom mix, [the tracks] go from slow and relatively coherent to faster and more incoherent - and then after raocow’s cat planet (which is 90% “catplanetcatplanetcatplanet”), it goes straight into an ajj song about murder, which is a jarring transition but done for effect.
other examples: i do something similar in [my manosuke mix], from the upbeat “the dear hunter - go get your gun” to “if not now then when - toast” which is in whispers for effect. in [my very first mix], and my souta musical mix, i’ve also included tracks without text specifically for the transitions between songs and making the whole thing a bit less overwhelming/a lot on an end.
EDIT: for this point, also consider looking up covers, mashups, [specific genre] remixes, or even nightcores if you’ve got the right song but bad flow!
my last point, is storytelling! this is a lot more up to personal preference, since you’re the one who knows what you’re seeing in those tracks and what story you’re telling, so i can’t give you a lot of tips on how to do it, but mostly just to keep it in mind. my favorite kinds of mixes are mixes that are an experience from start to finish, with lyrics in one song paralleling those in another, and a good intro and outro, rather than just a few character relatable tracks tossed together!
an example: [the tracks] [in my manosuke mix] start off with songs about childhood/fathers (how much do you love me/father/the hell of it) and then go into narcissism/obsession/a desire to be useful (oh no!/gallery piece/i’ve seen all good people), then murder (go get your gun/toast), confrontation with edgeworth (knight jumps queen), aftermath of his actions and relationship with souta (be nice to me/everyone else is an asshole/knight moves/the hands that thieve) and finally, death (the hands that thieve/best friend). in summary, that’s basically manosuke’s entire story, told in chronological order! and it wouldn’t work very well in any other order.
as for the parallels, the manosuke mix has multiple songs about chess that glue the whole thing together (ive seen all good people/knight jumps queen/knight moves), and the lyrics in “how much do you love me” parallel those in “knight moves” (”how much do you love me/how much do you care” / “do you love any/do you love none”). i do that in the souta mix too with both the original and an instrumental cover of gee officer krupke, and i basically made [a whole (two) mixes structured on parallels and shitty moon jokes] before.
some extra additional tips:
when picking tracks with important lyrics, consider lyric videos/captions/tracks with clear vocals. if the lyrics mean a lot but no one can make them out, that’s not very useful!EDIT: on the topic of accessibility, i personally like using well-known songs, because most people will know the lyrics even without captioning. i know it’s not for everyone, but don’t immediately write off a song just because it’s well-known or like... [a meme]
think about the length of your mix: a really long mix is hard to listen to in one sitting and focus on, but a short one is a short experience
i usually use youtube for my mixes, since 8tracks stopped service outside of north america, but i hear good things about playmoss as alternative
and, well…
it’s probably pretty obvious at this point, but keep in mind i tend to overthink mixes a little to the point of pseudo-science, and you don’t actually need to take all my advice to make a good mix! these are just some things i do, and maybe a few places to start out in, but ultimately the most important thing is of course that you feel good about your mix and like your selection, so that should be your goal above all else!! as long as you enjoy listening to it, it’s a good and successful mix. (if you don’t like listening to it, just keep editing until you do)
good luck with your endeavors, and i hope you have fun making a mix!!!! ty for asking!!! n__n)/
