going to see the christmas lights with Adler?
Cool cool ✨ not gonna be the Christmas lights you probably imagine (found this: https://londonist.com/2016/01/electric-lighting) but here goes—
Irene adler / Irwin Adler
"Now I have seen everything!" Adler squeezes your shoulder but seems not to dare look away from the contraption. The gold in their wide eyes shines by the bright light. This artifical sun has the like of rainbow at its edges; all purple and pink and blues.
Yet you would rather look at them.
Your Irene/Irwin.
"Sherlock," they ask, leaning into your side, "Could we get one of these for the house?"
"Not easily."
"I could pocket it?"
"Not easily."
They bite their lower lip. "You're lucky, you know—that you're cute. It's why I let you get away with so much."
"Is that so?"
"It is." Their cheek/chin now rests on your shoulder ever so lightly. "Besides, I don't need a light like that. Do you know why?"
"... I feel like I can already guess what you're—"
"Because you light up my life!"
"I knew it."
"Good. That's the plan. Inform lover of wonderfulness at every turn, check." Their hand snake around your waist. "Can you guess the next part, cariño? No? It's easy."
Their voice breathes into your ear, and you hear their pleasure in their tone, "Next, I show you."
You feel a weight shift in your pocket and a quick pinch to your buttocks.
Their figure is already running from you, laughing as they go, your wallet in hand, "Don't be cross—I'll get you a candied apple, Sherlock!"
You are left to wonder two things. Why do you keep falling for that trick? And why did you fall for them so hard that you seem unable to pick yourself off the ground?
Life is a mystery.
And quite magical.
When you think about it.
With Adler by your side.

I saw that you and Doriana seem to be friends. So I was wondering if you could answer the ask that you’ve answered for both Vahnya and Bouncy? Who would be with you out of the Scandal and Sherlock casts?
Of course ❤️. I adore @doriana-gray-games and her characters (plus anything Sherlock Holmes… of course). Now I’m just imagining the Scandal cast as Sherlock… thank you for that imagery.
Christian: I think Watson would be an excellent choice for him. He adores people with that type of personality. Someone you know you can count on no matter what. He’d be the exact same thing to them. I just think that they would really mesh well together.
Alcina: Either Adler or H… as I think those types of personalities would mesh well with her. Adler because I could see them getting into all sorts of hijinks together. While with H… Alcina has the same level of elegance as they do, but she has a much softer approach to people that are deemed in a lower class than herself (I believe anyway). I think either of them would do Alcina well.
Stephen: Adler more than likely. I think the intrigue of them would definitely catch his attention. Stephen isn’t much of a flirt but he does get heart warmed when he thinks that someone is vying for his attention… if he ever actually notices. He’d be like a ray of sunshine with them.
Quinn: Watson. That type of loyalty and dependability is something that would draw them in instantly. It’s something that Quinn always looks to when getting into a relationship. Plus their softer nature would do well with Quinn’s icier persona. Now if Lestrade was in the picture? Definitely Lestrade. I think it’s self explanatory.

Bumble bee disease, reproduction shaped by flowering strip plants

Bumble bee disease, reproduction shaped by flowering strip plants
Tumblr media
Flowering strips — pollinator-friendly rows of plants that increase foraging habitat for bees — can help offset pollinator decline but may also bring risks of higher pathogen infection rates for pollinators foraging in those strips.
Researchers from North Carolina State University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst show that flowering strip plants generally benefitted bee colony reproduction by adding floral resources for common eastern bumble bees (Bombus impatiens). The results came with a tradeoff, however, as bumble bees exposed to certain plants showed higher rates of infection by a bee pathogen acquired on flowers — Crithidia bombi, which is associated with reduced bee-foraging abilities as well as mortality in food-compromised bees.
The study showed that certain “high-infection” plants doubled C. bombi infection intensity when compared with “low-infection” plant species. Bees feeding mostly on canola plants — a major bee foraging plant and important U.S. crop — showed infection levels between high- and low-infection plants.
Nonetheless, all bee colonies that foraged on flowering strips — both low-infection and high-infection types — showed increases in reproduction relative to bees that only had access to canola.
“We wanted to know the effects of flowering strip plant species on the health and reproduction of bumble bees,” said Rebecca E. Irwin, professor of applied ecology at NC State and a co-author of a paper describing the research, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “Flowering strips are becoming more common as people look for ways to mitigate pollinator declines.”
The researchers used information gleaned from a previous study to split flowering strips into low- and high-infection portions. Low-infection plants included sunflower and thyme, while high-infection plants included swamp milkweed and purple loosestrife.
advertisement
“In a prior study, we evaluated 15 plant species by putting the same amount of C. bombi on each, letting a bee forage, and then seeing whether and how bad of an infection it developed,” said Lynn S. Adler, professor of biology at UMass Amherst and the corresponding author of the paper. “We used that to designate plant species as ‘high/low infection’ for this study.”
Researchers placed bees in tents with the crop plants and either high-infection flowering strips, low-infection flowering strips or no flowering strips.
“The bees were all infected with the same amount of pathogen and then allowed to forage, so the plants could increase or decrease infection,” Adler said.
Adler said the flowering-strip tradeoff — more bee reproduction but higher pathogen infection rates — may be acceptable.
“It depends on how critical food versus the pathogen is for pollinators,” she said. “Crithidia is somewhat benign, but if these patterns hold for other pathogens like Nosema, a common honey bee disease, it may be more of a concern. Right now I would not recommend stopping our investment in flowering strips.”
The researchers hope to continue examining the effects of flowering strips on bee populations and health by including other bee species and pathogen types.
“I think we need a much more comprehensive program to evaluate how pollinator habitat characteristics affect pathogen spread to make informed choices,” Adler said. “In the meantime, providing flowering resources in pollinator habitat is still the best path forward.”

FAQ
Hi guys! This is just so that you don’t have to send in asks for everything when you want to know something about my blog!!
Do you take requests?
I do! My blurb requests are pretty much always open but my fic requests are open a lot less of the time, but the info for that will be in my bio :) also for requests I’ll only write them if they’re specific and not just like “Write some fluff please” because I have little imagination whoooo
Do you do tag lists?
The only tag lists I do are for individual series, I don’t do general ones for characters/actors as a whole and I also only accept tag requests in my inbox and if someone does not respond to loads of chapters of my fic then I will remove them bc upholding tag lists is hella hard work
What’s a tag list?
It’s a way of letting certain followers know that I’ve posted the next part of a series that I write
Whats your name/age/sexuality/pronouns/nationality?
I’m Courtney, I’m 17, I’m not straight and I’m still trying to work out what exactly I am, my pronouns are she/her and I am English!
Can I tag you in my writing?
Of course you can! Please, please tag me I love reading what you guys have written and I don’t read anywhere near enough as I used to
Why don’t you respond to work?
I do respond! However because this blog ( @writingfortoomanyfandoms ) is a side blog, I have to respond with my main ( @ijustreallylovezebras ) so that’s why that blog is constantly replying haha
Do you write smut?
I don’t! I’m sorry! If you request smut I will not write it, though if it’s embedded in part of a request then I will still do the request I will just not include smut :)
What does your tracked tag mean?
My tracked tag is usercourt and it basically means that whenever someone posts something under that tag I see it! I made it so that you can tag me in your work without tagging my blog directly bc I often don’t see it when that happens so by using a tracked tag I’m somewhat more likely to see your work (whether it be fics, art, playlists, moodboards or whatever) and that way I can reblog it onto my blog and try and get more recognition for your work if that makes sense! So please always feel free to tag your work with usercourt so that I can see it :)
