hey is it just me or does SRK turn every speech he gives in a film into either 1. a love confession, 2. a motivational message or 3. the most devastating/terrifying news you've ever heard come out of his mouth at any given time
#film: billu#billu#billu barber#srk#shah rukh khan#local gay watches Bollywood.txt#disclaimer: whether he's hot af during said speeches varies based on the situation#on the one hand sometimes it's two of these at once with him being a pathetic little man and us saying nothing#or it's him being a despicable little man and putting our loins in danger but on the other#i just got through with the school speech/house conversation in Billu#and while i am known for taking my little bisexual hands and painting everything with the Gay ™#i sat there and thought 'sir this sounds like you're crying about your best friend in childhood who you may or may not have had a crush on'#sure afaik both he and Irrfan were playing married characters in this but#calling a man 'your support/your companion/blessing from your God' (generally paraphrasing here) and then telling him he could have#asked for your address when you eventually meet up again like a lover pining is very much Not Straight imo#how could i forget him getting to the part where he says he went back to look for him and found out he wasn't there#bby boy you broke down and went through every stage of grief#while you stood in front of a crowd and told them that you just wanted to hear his voice one more time#are you sure you didn't kiss him at least once in your childhood and he never said anything and you never said anything#and if you didn't kiss him are you sure you didn't sit there during that trip to Mumbai and wish you had#are we certain about that#look my brain has been chemically altered since KHNH i look at this man and try and figure out if there is any hint of bisexuality in him#in any of the other roles that he plays#even if there is not i will create it if the need arises#excuse me while i mourn over this being the only film that i know of with these two working together before Irrfan passed#it hurts and it's wrong and i needed them in more things *sobs*

According to my letterboxd, I have seen exactly 600 films. And in my two decades of existence, I forayed into the world of Vishal Bhardwaj only 2 weeks ago. Within those two weeks I watched Muqbool and Haider. While Maqbool is a masterclass in performance, by literally every single character, Haider is storytelling at its finest.
The mehnat poured into this adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet is so palpable to the viewer. Performances are always top notch in a Vishal Bhardwaj film, of course, if it's a Vishal Bhardwaj film, nothing short of top notch would suffice. The grip this 2 hours 30 minutes saga had on me. When there is absolutely no confusion on part of the maker as to what they're after, that belief and clarity permeates through the screen, drawing you in.
A story so potent, backed with the utmost conviction of all the actors and the brilliance of Bharadwaj saab is bound to leave its taste in your mouth for days afterwards. Also, the reason this adaption is so flawless क्योंकि विशाल जी नें कहानी की नब्ज़ को इतनी बखूबी पकङ कर परखा है, समझा है, that there was so confusion in how it would fit the Indian context.
In conclusion, nothing can beat Irrfan sir's cameo as Roohdaar.

Reviewing films: "The Lunchbox" (2013) dir. Ritesh Batra
Letterboxd: @librafang. 4.5/5 ✩
A Bollywood film rid of any crazy nationalism, blatant sexism, romanticisation of any form of abuse against women, and entirely constructed with long takes of Irrfan Khan's genius charm and Nimrat Kaur's perfectly depicted melancholy. I was encapsulated within the film's narrative as soon as the first establishing scenes played out, a warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling present for a world I've never been to, but I've shared enough similarities...
The use of editing in the film to portray just how alike Ila and Saajan are is meticulous, but it's not alikeness within their two personas, it's alikeness within the places they are in their life and exactly what they're looking for. This is the first romance film I have seen where the main characters are completely different and distinctive within their ideas and upbringings, within what they have experienced in their lives, and yet they are in the same place at the same time. The way the friendship between Saajan and Shaikh grows on you and on characters themselves within the film, it was the perfect side dynamic to pair with Ila and Saajan. The romantic notion surrounding the idea of taking the wrong train that ends up taking you to the right station is a sentiment I have always held yet never had the courage to put into words. This film has left me with so much to say and yet, no desire to say it because it's like an unspoken agreement... Only I and the film know exactly how we feel.
What stops this film from getting 5/5 is the ending... A genius part from Batra, but not enough for me. To build up an entire film full of intricate editing, perfect use of sound, playing on the entire construction of hope and new beginnings, and then to completely end it on a note full of uncertainty and void of confirmation? Brilliant, but cruel in so many ways.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007, Wes Anderson)
26/02/2024
The Darjeeling Limited is a 2007 film directed by Wes Anderson, written by Anderson himself together with Roman Coppola and actor Jason Schwartzman.
The film, preceded by the short film Hotel Chevalier, with which it was distributed, was presented in competition at the 64th Venice International Film Festival. The film is a comedy with dramatic overtones, set in India mainly in the Rajasthan region, starring the three Whitman brothers, Francis (Owen Wilson), Peter (Adrien Brody) and Jack (Jason Schwartzman).
Many scenes in the film - including the Himalayan ones - were not shot in Darjeeling area. The filming locations are practically all located in the state of Rajasthan, in the towns of Jodhpur and Udaipur.
On the other hand, there is a tourist train, the "Toy Train", which passes through Darjeeling, administered by the Darjeeling Himalayan company.
There are four characters in the film who only appear in cameos: Bill Murray, Irrfan Khan, Natalie Portman and Camilla Rutherford. In the cameo in which Bill Murray appears, he is seen chasing the train, which is leaving without being able to reach him, like the brothers do. A mystery is linked to his character: is he the ghost of the deceased father of the three or is it someone else?
Towards the end of the film there is a cameo in which Natalie Portman appears for about 8 seconds, while the camera moves from one carriage of the train to another. She finds herself in a yellow room identical to the one in the Hotel Chevalier from the prequel.
