#QutabMinar is a soaring, 73 m-high #tower of victory, built in 1193 by #Qutab-ud-din-Aibak immediately after the defeat of #Delhi’s last #Hindu #kingdom. The tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony and tapers from a 15 m diameter at the base to just 2.5 m at the top. The first three storeys are made of red #sandstone; the fourth and fifth storeys are of #marble and sandstone. At the foot of the tower is the #Quwwat-ul-Islam #Mosque, the #firstmosque to be built in #India. An inscription over its eastern gate provocatively informs that it was built with material obtained from demolishing ’27 #Hindutemples’. A 7 m-high #ironpillar stands in the courtyard of the #mosque. The iron pillar of Delhi is a structure 23 feet 8 inches high with 16 inches diameter that was constructed by a "King Chandra", probably Chandragupta II, and now stands in the Qutb complex at Mehrauli in Delhi, India.

 It is famous for the rust-resistant composition of the metals used in its construction. 

This pillar, built in the 4th century, features Sanskrit inscription in Brahmi script that states it was created in honor of the Hindu god Vishnu. The seven meter tall Iron Pillar, a victory pillar, predates the Qutub Minar. What is interesting is the non-corrosive property of the pillar that has withstood the vagaries of the Delhi weather over such a long time.
